"Today on as plus podcast is part of our as gone by series is former as right hander. Bobby Witt, bobby. You were with the team in. Will you? Over in the CANSECO TRADE IS? Is that right? Was it that long ago that you do? came over the ace. Yeah it's been awhile in one thousand nine. Hundred, myself, Ruben, Sierra and Jeff Russell for for. For the one and only Jose can say wow that I. mean just being a part of that trade alone must've been kind of crazy because it was so high profile at the time. It was. Really Nice about it to be honest with you. Susan's if we were in last place in Texas and You know within a matter of. Minutes, we went from last place to first place, so it was a good situation. for all three of us because I think first time. All three of us had an opportunity to be in the postseason. Yeah Yeah and then you actually your. You had a very nice two seasons with the as and I think people will remember I know you won fourteen games one year, and you also nearly had a perfect game. I mean you did have a perfect game for those of us that that recall there was just one bunt single, and it was a terrible call at First Base I. Think Gary Cedar Stern. What would you remember about that day? that was Kinda in which you just said it was. That was a nutshell basically. I mean there was one hit Greg Gag me think he tried to push push bonding. Thing was the sixth inning. and. I was one of those games we hit. Pitches talked about being zone locked in. However, you want to explain it, but. That was one of those days from the time I left the bullpen I felt like it was going to be a really good day and. David. Cone was going on the other side, so you knew going into that pitching against him. You know he's going to be one of those games where you got to really keep the team at bay and Scott was catching and we just gotTA. Going early. Well, do you recall arguing pretty strenuously over the? Yeah. I got to the point where. I was telling him how I felt. told him that he missed the call. you know and he disagreed I think, and then he said give back on the mound. And I you know he was saying you know, and then I think the home plan on fire came out to You know to make sure everything was trying to get back in some fashion, the order and then get back on the mound and I I basically said to myself. You're not gonNA get another hit the rest of the game just to show him and everybody else if he was wrong. Oh my Gosh the fact that it happened in the sixth inning kind of change the dynamic because you know, everybody always remembers the Gallaraga perfect game that was ruined by the you know bad. Call play essentially but because it was the sixth inning. I think this one's maybe goes a little under the radar, but it the same exact thing really. Yes I mean it was. It wasn't like it was the eighth you know. Top the ace talking to the ninth, and they were just trying to get hit to raise it, but I mean he was still trying to close game time. If I recall any was trying to create you know obviously distract me. You know. Maybe try to get some base going when you get into that situation and going into the sixth. I haven't been in the stretch yet so sometimes that can be a little bit of a hindrance where you haven't been thrown out of the stretching out, you're in it, and so I just use the you know what I feel was in this call motivations for me to continue to pitch well. Yeah I. Think I think people should kinda remember that one a little bit more and I do think may because it was the sixth people just kind of. Forgot about it a little bit, but it's exactly the same to in my mind as the as the Galleria one you you really, you got ripped off, bobby, there's snow. There's no doubt about it was magnificent performance. We all know it was twenty seven up twenty seven down, so. So. Tell us what you're doing these days. You're a player agent I am lucky enough to run into every now and then at the winter meetings and a very good one. This is a strange time I'm assuming for agents in all sports but baseball in particular, because there's so much uncertainty about the season where it's going what What are you doing right now? Especially with baseball going on? Well. Yeah. I've been doing representation. For the last nineteen years with a company called Octagon and You know right now. We're almost insane situations. The players were gathered except for not. Directly in the meetings I mean we're gathering information on the Players Association, trying to find out which you know, which direction's thing is headed. For me I, do have some experience in this. As an ex player, I went through three workshop just to lockouts and a strike, so I think I've been able to talk to a of the players that the you know when when going into this, there was a lot of owning and You know as far as where it's at right now. you know these things. These things are very difficult to navigate through especially, if this is even more difficult, due to the fact of the cove nineteen. Do you have that into the mix of with trying to get back and playing? Man With. What's going on right now? I saw the proposals yesterday and It's difficult times because. No matter what in the? View of the Public you know the they look at the Asja athlete is you know obviously making a lot of money. In going up, the airing is little bit agree, but I think when you look at it and understand the whole dynamics as far as what ownership has been able to the last few years as far as. The Revenue Stream that they've continually had an arrow pointing north. you know now it's time you know they want to. Have the players help them out situation where it's, it's difficult. It really is you know and and you know it's always especially when it gets out into the public becomes pretty nasty. I mean I think there's a lot of confusion. Because initially the initial agreement When there was the the stoppage I happened was that there would be prorated salaries if if and when this season started again. And now it sort of changed to yeah, let's just do a fifty fifty split which I think getting a rug pulled out from underneath them as probably pretty tough from a player's standpoint and from an agent standpoint. Is that kind of the case? No doubt, the first thing that you know was was discussed. Was the fact that you know if there's only going to be to gains eighty one games yet? You're going to get appropriate peace in. It's going to be half. Half Sally which is understanding, but then now your expectations of that, and then all of a sudden WANNA. You cut it a little bit more so again. It makes it very difficult for the players to accept that You know it's something that. I know that I think that they're talking about that today and you know it's GonNa be. It's GonNa. Take some time to get this thing on, yeah! How do you feel in general about getting baseball started again and you know taking the proper precautions. Do you feel like it can be done safely? Maybe if there are no fans in the stands and at Cetera. I think so I guess we do I live in. Texas.

"Up beside Christmas Eve when you're five years old and you can't wait to get up and and get down there and and open up the presence from Santa Claus everything like that? You can't wait to the next day. Santa who you saw. We had Hannukah. I've heard about this guy. But what does he do? Clause big old jolly Christmas. Break Your House every night. Leaves Give Summit Alderwood Mall Ones. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Cal Friendly Guy. Always at the ball. Yeah Yeah you you walk into the Kingdom and and it's just the place is just going crazy. You know that Randy Johnson is GonNa Pitch you. You know that you're going to win. It was amazing because right before that Adam you know we're down in Texas with two games left in the regular season. I was nineteen ninety-five now. That was a strike shortened year. We start the season until April. Twenty six I believe because the guys finally came back with you which is spring training said. Open eight early April. We opened up April twenty six. So now it's at the end of the we just need to win one more game down in Texas and ended up. Losing Mickey Tettleton had a great game for the Rangers. Then we got fly all the way back home. But we're excited. They knew that they're gonNA win. Randy Johnson it was going to be denied and sure enough. He pitched that great game against the Mark Langston. But you walk into the Kingdom and even with nobody there you start to feel the little hairs on the back of your neck. You know. Get excited And you know Lou. Pinella is your manager. There's no ways GonNa let this one slip away. He's fired up. You know more than anybody and then van start to come in. And Dave and I Kevin Kremlin. Were in ready for the ball game and we know you know the weight. The impact What this game is going to be for main for the franchise because we were fighting for our lives stay in Seattle. People don't know that it was on the ballot to the you know the mariners. They were trying to get money for new stadium. Right there was. There is a vote on September. The seventeenth of that year. We're playing the Texas Rangers. And that was the night where Doug Stranger you know. It was a refused to lose. Everybody was a hero. Everybody was started different night. It's Homerun off Jeff Russell. But it was the vote that night for the one tenth of one percent sales tax to build a new ballpark. Well vote was coming in. It was real favorable than at the end of the ball. Game was still looking good but then votes came in. I think from eastern Washington at absentee votes came in and we ended up losing by thousand votes but my glory the governor of the State of Washington at the time said we. We can't let this club go so he put together legislature. You know a car. Rental sales tax it would together the restaurant and bar sales tax and the lottery and with those three entities at a we were able to fund enough money to go ahead and build a new ballpark it. We got SAFECO field which is now t mobile part right but if it wasn't for those three entities we want to have enough money because Slate Gordon who is the attorney? General of the United States Senator At the time and then he say baseball more the one occasion. He told me long after the vote he said it was a blessing in disguise that fail because had that one tenth of one percent sales tax passed in September nineteen ninety-five it wouldn't have generated enough money but the other three things did eventually to mobile park the best. Bomar in baseball. But anyway back to your question down David I sit down and Kevin and we know the weight and the significance of this ball game and you know Randy Johnson going to be Randy Johnson and it was just so that screaming from the get go right. I mean I mean I had to push my earphones and like this dolt so I could hear it was so loud in the kingdom. They refused lose all year. Long if you recall we were thirteen games out of first place on August the first with two and a half months ago with two months to go you once and and we had to make up a thirteen game difference and that was the third largest comeback in the history of Baseball California. Angels kept losing. We'd get well game. Yeah that's what people don't truly understand. Is that not only? Do we have to go on a run? The Tina was red hot. All Year had to miraculously drop which happens in baseball. Which is why the sport is is so incredible because the ups and downs of it and the getting hot at the right time mattering but for them to drop and US and guys like Vince. Coleman hitting Grand Slams. I mean it was it was. It was captivating I felt like I was at the right age. I was in seventh grade ninety five which is like prime time to be a basis senior in high school. I know it was crazy that you got the job but it was my my friends. I we used to take the bus down from. Lake Spark Albertson's all the way myself. Adam Frans Christiaan Jonathan Stevens all the way down to the Kingdom we would buy at Albertson's I a construction paper a big piece of cardboard or construction paper and write signs because our goal. Every time we went to a game was to get on diamond vision and got on. I'd say about eighty percent of the time Rob Ducey when we had rob Ducey. He came up with it so we signed this getting do see with it and this little. I mean second inning camera guy just boom. These kids got nothing going on. So let's make their week and but the the energy was so bonkers and obviously you guys Fed off that was it. Could you tell in spring training? You know we got to have a cool spring training experience to Suns Games and you were so cool again getting those tickets and my dad and then somebody's and spring training to me. Seems like a time where you can really get a sense of where the ball club is at but I also am curious. Is it so early though that you can't really gauge or predict people love sports to be like? Who's going to win the world series this year? It's it's it's nobody knows right but when you're at spring training what is the overall vibe is just all fun. Yeah well at the at the spring training of that particular year. Yeah like I said we had to wait and wait and wait and wait. And then the guy's game back you know the guys were really. They put out at the end of ninety four. The strike hit August the twelfth. The guys were playing really well. It went on the road and were winning ball games. They had the best player in the game of baseball and Ken Griffey Junior. They had a heck of a lineup. They had solid pitching so At Spring Training that year we finally get joined underway. And you're you're never really sure what type of club you're going to. Have you know you got the talent is there? But the key factors. Can you stay healthy through the spring? Can you stay held the season? We didn't junior got hurt but everybody picked up the slack. But I'll never forget the atom Dave Niehaus did a pregame show interviews. We do every day spring training during the regular season with loop Allah and he asks Lou Pinella lose the best team of American League West and said the Texas Rangers so anyway Kevin and had to edit that out. He took that out of the interview. Little come on. Nobody heard that Louis supposed to say we are but I love Lou Pinella. I love him. He's unbelievable he will to win. He taught us how to win. And he was a major force and and putting that team together and showing us how you know how to win ballgames because you know it was. American league rookie of the year went to the Yankees was a very good player with the New York. Yankees play under Billy Barton. Who played under Casey stangl? So yet that hard nosed edge and everything just wanted to win so You know you really don't know at Spring Training. A lot of things have to go right In Junior went down and may twenty six after slamming into the wall and right-center field kingdom chasing down a fly ball by Kevin Best Baltimore which is our heart song because Matt we knew he was hurt and he was gone for three months. He broke his wrist. Rest could've played in his wrist with seven screws. Keep it in. Did you know he was. He was badly hurt when he hit the wall right when he hit the wall. No when it came off the field yes because you know just the look in his eye. He was looking up like he knew he was really hurt. And if you look at that video you know. He hits the wall with both hands and his left hand does in between the padding padding and bright behind that it's just hard wall though his hand hit that hard walter the that concrete exactly in his hand proper that broke the wrist remember. Daves go Dave Juniors hurt like you said and the way he said it when he was holding his wrist it was like no you never think about junior was just a larger than life player and seemed like not even real. I know from a fan perspective. You know what's crazy to me is looking back. I got thank heavens. I grew up in Seattle during that time. It's how people feel about watching Michael Jordan. You know have friends in Chicago from Chicago. That are like dude. I went to games and look. They were super popular. So it's tougher to get a ticket to a bulls game and they were good but even in the early days. You knew what you were watching and for as a kid to even have that wherewithal to be like. I know that this is special that I get to come down here a school night and watch. This and every game was exciting. Because you didn't know even if it was a catch or even to see him just chase down twenty.

"And then similarly expects him expects him to be successful. I heard who was it. Yesterday that Kelly Breen. Kelly. Breen mentioned constitution. Yeah. No. He's definitely had some steam behind him at the yearling sales and has a lot of the right people talking about them and see what he does now. But there's definitely some nice ones by him in here as well. Yeah. There's a constitution. I really like on data to I'm hoping Kelly's not on the horse because I might make a bitter too. So that's not the only lakes. Well, talk about talk about your your group and how you're doing. It's Franklin have equine got about seven and training right now, we've got to New York lead your mighty and then for Jason Barclay. We're gonna get him some more hopefully at the two year old sales. We buy at auction claimed kind of do everything just hopefully starting to build it up a little bit have some success. So how can people find more formation Franklin at av equine dot com? There you got. All right. Snappy snappy, silk think. A picture actually put it up. You talk about the the right people being on horses. And I it's one of the things that over the years originally with regular conversations with with plenty Cain oak for and as I was kind of learning where money gravitated, and when you particularly on the yearly market and then most recently with this wing to your Ling pin hook market that came out of nowhere that that was just like, oh, why didn't somebody think of this before? We would if Lenny and I would kind of go through and and note who was buying these first crop types. And when you know when people you respect the, and and people that, you know, have got a track record when they're buying those wheelings, and those yearlings that's a major endorsement, and you don't have to be some confirmation expert. You know, if you're if you're just emerging and waiting into this marketplace, you can follow the leaders and get a feel for for where things are headed. And who probably has a better than average chance of being successful. Definitely. I remember at Saratoga the New York bred sale. I was looking at some competitive edge is in every time. I went to look at one Mike Ryan was already looking. I can't afford. It must be interesting. And you could you could go you could go to the to the Barnes shadow. Basically, just being I'm sure I'm sure there's plenty of people that do that. Now, you definitely could learn a lot by this being even just being here and seeing what's going on. If you paying close enough attention. I feel like you pick up a lot without even realizing it just to walk through the backstretch. And if you happen to be looking at a horse, and you see who else is calling the horse out. You know, you're you're probably looking at something pretty good. One of the things that I just addict otaly because camera was with us yesterday. And. The situation, of course in California. Feels like there were more than more than usual war, California, horsemen, we're we're visiting at took the opportunity to slip over here. You know, Phil D'amoto Peter Miller, we saw Peter Jon Sadler holiday, or for course, and et cetera. So I think I think baby there's a couple of extra heads that. Are that are, you know, look at it at horses that that could drive the top sellers every year, more and more people show up to this L. Even though you're saying, APRIL's, kind of become the bigger thing. Now, it's you don't see many people sit this one out though, either everybody's going to be here and the right horses are going to go to the right home for the right money. I don't think you're gonna catch too many bargains with everybody in town. Here we keep we keep hearing. And it's now become protracted the this middle market concerns. And at what point because everybody, you know, every every quote, whether it's Browning or whether it's Jeff Russell or or Tom Vittore and. And any the sales people. They they keep saying..

Put that on a ten by ten concrete slab twenty five thirty five hundred psi pressure washer and squeegee this product on it makes the whole broken slab. Look like a brand new slap. I use the older product certainly wasn't a bad product. And it was pretty easy to use. I mean, it opened up the pores of the concrete a little bit. We get that it powder. You gotta mix it, right? And just it's I always felt like it was kind of like put driveway sealer on like an asphalt driveway sealer others concrete killer, right, right? And one of the great things about this. New formulation. Also is the workability is much better it flows onto the slab much easier coats.

Snow all of a sudden backslide potty training because you know, they're like what is this under my feet, right? They're not used to it. So that's the same with puppies that get used to the snow. And then when spring comes back they gotta get used to that feeling of grass under their feet. Yeah. Different textures. Prepare for setbacks when the snow comes back again, right? It's going to be like, oh, no. Out more often, okay in the muppet Christmas, Carol, which is most awesome movie. Well, not gonna get it. Can't it wasn't a month. Human the human. All the answer is okay. This is a part that I never would have thought this guy would have played any. Did it? Perfect Michael Caine? Okay. Michael caine? He played the Scrooge as an awesome ITO. Let's say, hey, we got open line six five one six four one one old seven one who's up? Okay. We have lend on she wanted to follow up with an Email. She sent you go, right? Hi, Linda, how're you doing? I am I better. But thank you. Okay. What you on speaker phone does that disrupt you guys at all was always where there's no radio of us in the back. Radio. Okay. What's up? All right. Katie. I wrote you I think it was this past week or last week about a rescue dogs that is two years old from Oklahoma. It is about a fifty pound looks like a shepherd and. Friendly love kids and love people. And okay, I. On an impulse because I had just locked my dog which would Iraq rescue. Jeff Russell in any way. Then. Right after my dog died, my significant this is I'm not looking for a psychology. I just need help with my dog. So I got this dog because I bought my significant other. Dead. And it was a horrible thing. 'cause it was three days later memorial weekend autumn. So I I in my house without a dog, and is horrible. So okay. So what's going on? Now. So I got this Harley his name was Iraq. And he and the reason I'm asking you because I know I would never write you because I just experienced the same thing that just happened in may with somebody else on Thursday. So I would never write you and my dog is the coolest wonderful dog. And I it runs. I mean, I take it to the park. I walk it. Okay. But what is the problem? Okay. So what's the problem worry when I'm walking him? He can come out of a collar. He can he broke the chain today about gays, which he broke the chain. And he runs and he won't comeback. Okay. He will not come back not board. Okay. Now. How does he get along with other people help stop to stop to stop? Okay. Now. How how does he like other people and other dogs? Okay. I don't know if I can see on the nets the other thing if you need to tell me because he loves okay, good. So fall, okay. Right foil. No dopey going down that road for peace as okay, you got a great dog sounds great personnel. Stop stop. Listen. Listen to stop to stop. Listen. Listen. Listen, you bet. Okay. So it sounds like you have a great dog. He loves other people. He loves other dogs just like that. Okay. Now, what you just need is you just need to get yourself organized and the dog organized, we just need to get the rain training collar and all be right with the world as so the thing is is that where what area you live in wanna personal trainer would hold on. Okay. Stop. Okay. So now what area? Do you live in? I live. Live in crystal crystal. That's okay. I know. But anyway, so the thing is is that because I'd be willing to do a private lesson with you for half price. Right. I don't even I don't want that. I just want to get. My Christmas present to you. I do one for half price. But anyway, so. What would you need to do is yet? We gotta sit down calendar at home because if I can guarantee you that in about ten minutes, you'll have a dog that is walking nicely on a leash. Okay. And. Does do that I've trained him to heal and walk really good? But if he gets lose, okay? But then, but then what that's what we need to work are, then we'll we're we're working on the com-. Do you use any kind of color hues any kind of training, Colorado? No, okay. You don't know. Exactly. What what what are you walking in buckle collar harness harness? Okay. Now. That's the thing is that he can get out of that. So we've got gotta get out of debt as easy as the little skinny collar. Because there are what's called, no slip, collars. And so then what it does is that from the greyhounds where the, you know, the greyhound gets Lucy that you can't get them back and say can't slip, and this guy's a magician that guy, but you know. Okay. But yeah. So that's like I say, so if you want to hang on we got to run to break. I'll explain it over the radio how to get your dog to better com. Okay. So I'll try to explain it. And then if you feel like you need help that we can try to get together. But we got to go to break. Okay. So you okay now, and I'll help you over the radio so weird. Okay. So hold on. And we'll discuss after the break. Okay. The don't hang up. We're gonna come back. Okay. According to legend. Okay. What according to legend. "I mean, he played with the reds for four seasons. Wayne, crunchy passed away yesterday at the age of sixty four in pittsfield, Illinois, a wing cringe was a first round pick of the Orioles in nineteen seventy six third baseman. Made his debut with the Orioles and seventy nine he was going to be the next Brooks Robinson. We're going to be by Eighty-one. They had sent him down to the minors. They call up some guy named Cal Ripken. Not sure whatever happened to him. But Wayne Krinsky was traded to the reds for Paul Moscow pitcher, speaking of obscure reds and Wayne played for the reds in eighty two eighty three eighty four eighty five it finished his career with the Expos in eighty six career for the reds hit hit here. He hit two eighty three for the reds in three hundred and thirty two games. He's a Miami. Hurricane hall of Famer at one point he held the Miami hurricane baseball program record for career hits at two hundred and four he may still know if he still has that or not. He was a manager of the Evansville otters in the frontier league the league with the Florence freedom. Here is my wing crunchy story. In nineteen eighty-five. The reds traded for buddy bell. Wayne, cringe. Shuki was the red starting third baseman that year in the reds, July July eighteenth? I do believe traded for buddy bell came over to from the Texas Rangers four zero who did they send Bodine Jeff Russell and something else may I I'm confusing drafts or traits. But they they got buddy bell here and buddy great defensive third baseman, Texas ranger Cleveland Indian multiple time all star. They inserted him in the starting lineup. And buddy struggled as read in his first season. In fact, for the rest of two thousand fifteen he hit two nineteen. Wayne crane shaky was having a career with the reds at the time of the trade. He was hitting three oh five with an on base approaching four hundred. Now, we never had much pop in his bat for third baseman. But that was his career to that point. And the reds took him off the starting gig and handed the buddy bell and buddy in the first month. He would have been lucky to hit two hundred in the first month. And I remember I remember calling Trumpy on sports talk and going round and round with him in the gist of it was this like Trump. All right, Mr. chompy. How can I was that young? But I said how can you take a guy who had a career year at third base? Take him out of the lineup for buddy bell and buddies been here a month, and he's not even hitting his wait. What are we doing here? Trump and Trump probably dropped one of those lines. Oh, you've never played the game, obviously. And we went round and round and round and round. And his argument was probably he's a veteran. He's a gold glove. Got pop in his bat. He's gonna come around in. My argument was well, that's all. Well, it good. Why isn't he hit it right now? And what do you see to create cheeky and everybody else on that team that he was having a career year? And now he's on the bench, and at that point Trumpy hung up the phone. I take that back. He slammed down the phone and went to the next call. One of I dunno nine ten eleven times in my life as a as a kid or young adult that he hung up on me calling sportstalk. But yes, that that is how I remember Wayne crane Jiechi he was replaced by buddy bell. And I was not happy about it. Go back to the phones. See here is Steve on seven hundred wwl w hi, Steve. Good. A couple of things for you about the only base follow up five trade. It was the red cent Wayne Walker and a player to be named later to the Rangers for buddy bell. And then to be named later. Jeff. That's.
