"There, but nothing too dramatic and just, you know, a rainy night, But maybe a little more. I think what caught me off guard If anything was, we were expecting this to be more of a rain event in town, and the impacts of anything seemed to be a little more wind related, like the power outages and so forth. What I know you were also keeping track of rainfall totals through the morning. Anything of significance there to share. I mean, I feel like a lot of your guests earlier in the hour kind of mentioned this, But there have been, you know, quite a few inches of rain in the Galveston area and the southeast parts of Harris County. Houston got around three inches of rain and you'll probably see a lot of puddles and you know, water pool throughout the day, but, um, it doesn't seem like it. Been ash severe as you know what the post has seen. All right news 87. Sarah will Ernst thank you very much appreciate the time. Thanks And we're back again with meteorologist Jeff Lindner from the Harris County Flood Control District, Jeff the ground is pretty saturated. Are there any concerns that even lighter showers not just the next few hours, but in the coming days could could lead to problems. Not really. You know if if you're if you're looking at the ground, you know, we can even get heavier rain during an afternoon thunderstorm here sometimes a terrorist county and we tend to be fine and so You know, the good news is is the center is going to move on off to the east. Eventually, the rains that focused east of that over and towards southwest Louisiana and so that puts us on what we call the dry side of the storm, and we get the dryer coming in from the North and West. And so we're not really looking at chances for rain going forward, and even if we did, we'd be able to handle it here. That's Jeff Lindner, meteorologist with Harris County Flood Control District Just before you go any lessons you want to take away from this particular storm. You know, I think one of the biggest lessons here is is a reminder of how unpredictable sometimes storms could be. And even even with the technology we have and the advancements we wait with forecasting and how good some of the forecasts have been recently. This was one of those storms. That definitely had a lot of forecasting headaches from the start, and we're seeing that kind of bear out now and the impacts and the reaction of what we expected a flood events, But we got kind of a wind event. Um, And so I think that's a lesson to take away. Um And I kind of touching that beginning of making sure you're frequently checking for updates because things can change. They change the light yesterday during the day.

"In my 10 years at the time. I only lived here for a few years that we were told this is going to be a big one. This is going to be a big one, and it wasn't And then finally, Hurricane Harvey happened. And when Harvey happened, a lot of people thought, uh, don't worry. This won't be a big one. And then it was computer models have been so you go ahead. Yeah, Actually, it's funny that you mentioned that because I remember I did. I've grown up in Houston all my life. I was in college during Hurricane Ike. But I was here for Travel to storm Alison. I mean, I think I was like Six or seven and remember, But yet as Harvey was coming down, I was sitting there thinking, my I'm sure it'll be fine. They're just overhyping it or something like that. Um, it You know, we like to make fun of the weather people. I mean, that's just sort of the classic joke, you know, making fun of meteorologist. There's a science there, however, um, I think the really good ones will also tell you Well, yeah, there's a science but Sometimes it's a little bit of an art form. That's why I like the the guys over at space City weather because they'll tell you, you know it's all about probability to them where it's like. Look, it's probably nothing but you know, it could be something. It's not definitively one way or the other. And I think that's how good science and good good meteorology is done. Cherry notices a guy that does this for a living right? On the local TV news stations. It's always a beautiful woman in a tight fitting dress standing in front of the green screen, telling you about the weather until the day comes, when suddenly a real storm heads and that's when they pull this guy out. You've never seen him before, and he's a bit overweight, and he's bald. In short, maybe he doesn't look like he's had Botox. And this guy, and then suddenly, this guy is giving you the real weather report. And every time that happens, Matt, I always think where is this guy been for the last year when they brought out the pretty lady in the skirt to tell us the weather. Uh, some of those pretty ladies. The skirts might get romantically because some of them are our meteorologist. But yeah, I during Harvey, I think, um What's his name? Jeff? Uh, Hang now. Now I'm blanking on his name anyways, Harris County's um, meteorologist he was given the report Jeff Lindner. Yeah. Jeff Linder? Yeah. Uh, yeah. You know, they got him. "Matters dot org or call us at 713440 88 70. First, though, let's talk about the weather. Aside from the occasional shower. It was a beautiful weekend across most of greater Houston, a respite from a long stretch of overcast skies, dumping quite a bit of rain These last two weeks, the end result has been pretty saturated ground and the Barker Reservoir has been a little high in recent days. Fortunately, there are now only slight chances of rain this week. It could have played out differently. Of course, if we got a lot more rain this week, we will have had the formula in place for at least the potential of some of the usual flooded streets. Except not everyone in Houston knows what the usual are, and we thought. During this welcome break in an otherwise rainy stretch. This might be as good a time as any to talk about them. Jeff Lindner is a meteorologist with the Harris County Flood Control District. Matt Lanza is the managing editor at Space City Weather. Jeff Matt. Good morning. Good morning. Morning, Jeff, Let me start with you. I gather we did not see the sort of wet weather we could have had seen this weekend. Nevertheless, there's been reason to note higher levels of water in the Barker Reservoir. How has that water been flowing the last few days. Yeah, We're very fortunate that the reservoirs did not receive significant amount of rain just like we could have seen And good news is this morning that it looks like quotes, addicts and Barker or at peak at the moment, the pools anyways. And those levels should be starting to fall over the next couple days as releases continue down Buffalo by you so right now the core of engineered, releasing about 2200 cubic feet per second from the reservoirs. And yet they have to keep it below about 3000. So they don't produce impacts on buffalo by you So as long as we get a little bit of dry weather this week, we'll have improving conditions on those reservoirs. And the good news is unlike last week, when we were thinking we might have some impact on the roadways. We no longer expect impacts on Highway six Eldridge or West River Parkway. Well, you just jumped ahead to kind of my next question, Which is that those are highway six. Eldridge Westheimer parkways. Those are spots that do have a tendency to flood even just a little When there's enough rain and the reservoir pool rises. This is because they're built through the reservoir, right? Yeah, that's exactly right. All three of those roadways go through the reservoir land along with Parker Side first and clay road and addicts. And the good news is we're at elevations were about a foot below elevations on both reservoirs, which would begin to impact those birth way. So that's good news again. We don't expect impact on that in addicts and it, Parker, we do have some park lands out there. Those are underwater and closed at the moment again, but those are built in the reservoir, and they do flood some time to time. Jeff are there other streets in and around the Houston area that are traditional streets to watch out for high water.

Six eldridge westheimer parkway's those are spots. That do have a tendency to flood even just a little when there's enough rain. In the reservoir pool rises this is because they're built through the reservoir right. Yeah that's exactly right. All three of those berkeley's go through the land along with Falker ciphers and clay road and addicts and The good news is elevations about a flip below elevations on both reading fours which would Tact breath so that's good news again. We don't expect impacts on that In addicts ended parker. Would you have park lands out there. those are underwater enclosed at the moment Again but those are built in the reservoir and they do come from time to time jeff. Are there other streets in and around the houston area that are traditional streets to watch out for high water during any sudden downpours. Oh absolutely you know you look at the feeder roads especially at forty five our prepa golfing tidwell Portions of i ten east I really honestly just any street in our area. We start getting rainfall rates of two or three or four dollars an hour the speech you're actually billed as part of the drainage system. And so they're meant have flood when we get these really heavy rains to hold that water temporarily until the underground systems and catch up and bring that water to the creek value. And so it's always a good idea to remember this time of year we get. These heavy rains never driving to that high water and and generally speaking. If you just wait you know. Twenty thirty forty minutes. That water is going to go down pretty quickly and you can go about what you do. The other thing is if you typically have a route that has you know funding tendencies and gets high water heavy rain. We're having these episodes ahead of planet different route because there's potentially going to be that high water and You know as we always say never even to that turn around. Don't drown matt landa. We had an interesting stretch. These last couple of weeks of a lot of rain. And i heard chatter from some houstonians about how it seemed like the whole month of may was one green storm but in fact it was not anything record setting rain right. Yeah i i think the month of may ended up in somewhere near the top ten of whether or on record You know it was certainly a wet laws. And i've been telling people it's not unheard of by. It's not necessarily common either to have Month like the obey hitter legit and have been You know we we definitely got a lot more ringing what we would typically yet But you know certainly for producing nothing. Unprecedented by any means and i think all things considered we kind of walkout necessarily because you know if there were some flooding here there but You know better than probably could have Given all the rain that we had in the circumstances heading into the weekend. You and eric burger space city whether you were noting that it was a tricky forecast to grab hold of. What about the next several days. Become less streaky. Yeah i can still become a little bit easier. Once you get these upper level system out of their fixer. You know what was okay modeling here. We have to suffer store and get gradually work. Its way out but We're gonna see some continued impact into this week with You know that combination of seabreeze daily thunderstorms but that has seems. It started seeing last thursday and friday. The bomblet started dry out this weekend. Out today If you look at the seven day forecast from the national weather service the to the city of us zero You go north excuses. There will still be some storms especially today with like going into this afternoon. And they run into those if you're traveling But for the next several days Not so much to speak of it. It doesn't look like there's a ton of risks either way But because all these things can always change but right now.
