"Jeff Wagner. A lot of interesting feedback on the Medicare, the dental benefits and then, like people talking about the different plans, Medicare advantage in the supplements and basic Medicare and all people have a discussion about that Some time. I have some Very strong feelings about that whole area. But again, there's there's pluses and minuses. If you decide that, you know you want to go with a Medicare advantage plan. There are pluses. And then there are some minuses and You know that the Medicare supplements there are pluses and minuses. And then, of course, if you go the supplement route you can buy standalone dental insurance and visit Envision insurance And a lot of this is just based on your individual comfort levels and candidly, your wherewithal. No question about that, and How? How many options that you want to have all right over the weekend. Yet as ER passed away at the age of 91, Ed Asner. Big, big time political activists and big time lefty. But let's let's put that aside because I thought it has her with with such a good actor that candidly I was able to kind of separate his political activism and say, Okay, well, you know, Yeah, I don't agree with a lot of things these out there touting, but you know what he's still He was great on the Mary Tyler Moore show as Lou Grant. That's probably That is probably was his role of a lifetime. You know, Mary Tyler Moore came to fame in the sixties, She played the Laura Petrie Dick van takes away from the Dick Van Dyke Show. That show ended when Dick Van Dyke decided he wanted to move on. And then in the early 19 seventies, Mary Tyler Moore got her own show you maybe you remember it from when it was on. If not, you've probably seen it in reruns. And it was this amazing ensemble was set in the newsroom in Minneapolis and Mary Richards played a Uh, she actually played a divorce say they didn't talk about that very often. But that was that was kind of groundbreaking back at the time, and you know, And it was a comedy that featured like her personal life and also her workplace, and it was set in the TV studio and Ed Asner played her boss, Lou Grant, and he went on one anime or maybe one more than one M E. As a result of that. But he was part of this wonderful, wonderful ensemble clay cast and undoubtedly, I think created certainly an iconic television character. I wanted to have a little bit of fun on a Monday afternoon, especially in recognition of Ed Asner is passing it has now actually the Lou grant characters so he played Lou Grant in in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, the comedy series, You know, in one all sorts of awards for that, and then after that show went off the air. They brought it back a couple years later again on CBS, and this time he played the and the same character, Lou Grant. But it was it was set in a It was set in a in a newsroom. I believe it was in Los Angeles or something, but they had him, You know, same character moved on. And, you know, he was like the editor of a newspaper and stuff and it was It was not a comedy. I mean, I think there were a couple elements Maybe. But it was, basically it was It was a drama. And it was about you know, um How you You know how how you run a big city newsroom and stuff, and it found an audience and ran for four or five years. But that character that Lou Grant character was one of the iconic things that's out there. Okay, our number 85561616 20 that is the accident, mortgage talk and text. Line. In wake Light of the passing of Ed Asner, who played Luke Grant. I thought we'd have some little little bit of fun on Monday afternoon. Take a walk down Memory lane. I want you to think about classic television shows. But more importantly, I want you to think about classic characters on On television shows. You can make an argument that if you were talking about like the top five or one of the top 10 classic, iconic characters on TV Lou Grant would be one of those is portrayed by Ed Asner, one of the ones that comes to mind to me. Maybe at the top of my list is done. Nazis portrayal of Barney, not Barney Fight for five years on the Andy Griffith Show, an iconic character, some character that that lives on despite the fact that the show has been off the air for 40 50 years. Our number. 85561616 20. That's the accident, mortgage talk and text line iconic TV characters who is the first one that comes to mind after we think about Barney Fife and we think about Lou Grant 85561616 20 C and I'm just always amazed that the ability of these characters to kind of Touch, touch our lives touch nerves, So the fact is that we remember them decades after they stopped performing iconic TV characters 85561616 20 we discuss in a minute or Jeff Wagner right after.

You've got your hotel reservations. You got all the arrangements made. You're going to Nassau and okay, first of all the flights delayed because of mechanical problems, so that's beyond everybody's control. Then you get on the plane. You've got 30 punk high school kids who are refusing to wear their masks, creating a disturbance and ultimately that the flight has to get canceled. And the response of American Airlines is we're going to send you all about on the next day I to me, you say to those 30 punk kids. Look, there are consequences for your behavior, and one of those consequences is You ain't flying an American airlines to Nassau. Go explain to Mom and Dad. "Back to Jeff Wagner on WTMJ AG. Mm hmm. Yes, Mike was saying this is the third day in a row that you had freeway closures because of law enforcement investigations will continue to keep you updated during the course of the afternoon. There's not saying in the business world when you look at the stock market goes bulls make money bears make money. Pigs get slaughtered. What it means is if you're smart. In a bull market where prices are going up. You can make money in a bear market. When prices are going down. You can still make money. But if you get piggish, you end up getting slaughtered. There's another example of this. Remember during the pandemic where you had people that ran out and created this this artificial shortage of toilet paper by rushing out and buying, like three years worth of toilet paper and creating these these, um, again creating these these problems. There were shortages, but not because people needed toilet paper But because somebody would come in by a three year supply. Well, alright. The the supply chain caught up with that. Those people who bought three years worth of toilet paper there, there now sitting with 2.5 years still in their basement, and I guess it's not going to go bad, but they invested all this money when they didn't need to do it. One of the things that's been happening in the building field has been lumber. Um, the prices and we we've talked about this before. As part of the housing crisis. One of the things is the cost of new construction for houses have gone up through the roof in part Because the cost of lumber has been so high to give you an idea in early May, Um the price per 1000 board feet for lumber was over 1700 bucks. For June futures. This is just came out. Um, that price is now down to $996. It's declined. 42% futures have declined 14 of the past 15 days. So what's happened is yet all these people that that decided to hoard lumber and buy options to buy lumber and they paid, you know top dollar. And here we are less than 60 days later, and things are going back to normal. It just I think underscores what we frequently see when people decide to get greedy and people move in. And they say, Okay, we're going to take advantage of these shortages or whatever you want to buy all this stuff up. Well, okay, A small number of people might make money because they figure out when to buy and when to sell, But for a lot of people, you just get stuck with a lot of boards, and those boards aren't worth what you paid for them. Go figure When we come back. We're going to find out what John McClure has on his mind for Wisconsin's afternoon news. Please stick around. This is the year Bucks fans. Can you feel it's in the bank? Get out the brooms sweep the area in the bucks are on the hunt for an NBA title. Rook powers up, it is gone. Brooklyn.

Does CBS have a responsibility to set a progressive tone with Super Bowl 55 coverage?
"So the game is going to be on CBS and, of course, will be the coverage of the game. They'll be all the pre games, etcetera, right? There's a piece in an opinion piece in USA Today that caught my attention. It's by Jared Bell is one of the columnist headline says CBS has a responsibility. Who set a progressive tone with its Super Bowl 55 coverage, and it goes on to first of all Rip Fox last year for They're Super Bowl coverage. Where apparently they Colin capper, he says, Well, Colin Kaepernick's name was never even mentioned. You know, even though it was his former team that played so the columnist is saying it was just terrible. They didn't even mention Colin Kaepernick, and they didn't talk about the various social justice movements that had had Royal The NFL last year. And so the columnist goes on to say, Look, this is this year, you need to have a more progressive tone. Um, the game's context includes the presence of four black coordinators. That would be offensive or defensive more than ever in a Super Bowl against the backdrop of the NFL, Sorry track record for heart hiring minorities, his head coaches and it says, Okay, what we should do is we should emphasize this. You know what we should be doing is we should be talking about again. The Colin Kaepernick issue we should be talking about how this Super Bowl is being conducted. Against the backdrop of the pandemic. And of course, she had all the social justice issues and things like this. This is CBS his opportunity to strike a progressive Tone and to use the Super Bowl and all the people that are going to be watching this, maybe people that otherwise wouldn't watch a football game. This is our chance for CBS is chance to again use this progressive tone to talk about it, perhaps influence issues of the day.

A Look at What’s in the Stimulus Package Trump Signed
"In Congress, the debate over how much and win a new covert 19 stimulus package could come too. Fruition is happening on the floor of the Senate. Everybody's in a bad position, and we're also in a moment we're about to overcome this virus vaccine out there, so this is the time we have to do this. No President Trump repeatedly asked for $2000 direct payment checks. So how much would that end up? It would cost roughly 464 billion, which is nearly half of the entire cove in 19 relief bill this, according to an estimate by the Joint Committee on Taxation Currently, the $600 checks cost about 160 billion in the cove in 19 Relief bill. "Some reason, you thought that it was going to get a little safer to travel. The mean streets of Milwaukee, the city off or even the county? Not so much. So, I mean the big story over the weekend before last was Former county executive Chris Abeley, driving essentially at the corner of shore would insure would at the corner of capital in Oakland, getting pulled over and carjacked at gunpoint. Asses. Far as I know, the people who did that are still at large of the good thing is that Chris Abeley was not hurt The bad thing. The funny thing is that the carjackers didn't know how to drive his high end BMW so they weren't able to get away with it. But this shows it is dangerous everywhere. We are on pace to set a record for homicides in both the city of Milwaukee and in Milwaukee County.

"Jeff Wagner on WTMJ at so very glad to have you with us okay there's no question that what's going on over the course of the last month month and a half it's had a devastating impact on the economy you have people who have been S. take pay cuts you had people who have been laid off you have been to have people who have been furloughed and you have businesses that have closed in one of the big questions is are some of these business is going to re open again and that's that's one of the reasons why I think there's a lot of us who we want to see it happen just like yesterday you have to do it safely but I I think that you can can do that that's one of the the pushes meanwhile you've got the real world impact on people which is that they suddenly lose their job and I understand people say well folks should have everybody should have you know enough money in the bank to to last them you know six months or whatever and that's all well and good and some people do but for other people they they live paycheck to paycheck and suddenly losing your job that has a huge impact and then not knowing if you're going to have a job to come back to that that makes it even more of an impact so one of the things that that we did as part of the government is part of the cures act is they said look we we want to provide help to people who have been unemployed suddenly and we want to help them out beyond just the state unemployment comp now the way it works in this is that is it of course the players pay into the unemployment compensation fund and then what happens is when people lose their jobs as long as it's not because of their fault they can apply for unemployment compensation and they can get a percentage of what it was that they make right but one of the things you never want to do is you never want to encourage people to be financially incentivized to to not work so that's why unemployment compensation it's like a safety net but it's not designed to fully replace the amount of money that that people get because you don't you never never what you never wanted to be in a situation where somebody says well what why should I be working when I can make as much or almost as much money but seeing on unemployment Cup that's that happened to an extent ten twelve years ago when we were in the Great Recession and if you'll recall we have lots of lots of people who lost their jobs in in we were trying to figure out their workshops to replace it you know there was this employer just weren't hiring and all that type of stuff so the government kept either through the federal government or the state government is very from state to state extending and extending unemployment comp and what happened is there were eight percentage of people and you know you can argue about whether was a ten percent or twenty percent or forty percent or whatever there were a percentage of people who made the calculation that said you know I can go to work and I can make six hundred and twenty dollars at work but by working five days a week and I'm gonna be taxed on that war I can stay at home and I could make four hundred and twenty dollars and the the the calculation at least some people made was Hey I'm not getting as much money but I'd still I'd rather kind of stay home and not at work then go to work and not make that much more money and so what happened is that you found you found this pretty much across the country was for those that group of people folks who wanted to linger it wasn't until the unemployment cop ran out that then suddenly people ended up going back to work well we don't have that situation but we have something even more interesting that's developed let me share with you a piece that is in today's Wall Street journal the opinion section here here's what the headline says our restaurants can't reopen until August when I saw the headline I thought okay is this somebody is going to be complaining about the government rules that did okay the government's making close to August but then when I started to read it it was different employees this is what it says refused to return to work as long as they're getting an extra six hundred dollars a week but what this letter is talking about is that as part of the cares program people still get their regular unemployment compensation through the state on top of that everybody who is unemployed gets an extra six hundred dollars a week from the federal government all right here's the letter Portland Oregon the.

on Sunday but but I didn't remote fashion sitting in my den with live streaming of our services through the archdiocese it would see a kind of an interesting experience not one that you hope to be able to help cope after repeat but still it was it was something we had a really interesting weekend because even in the sphere of social distancing it was important to us to at least go in and do some play Easter bunny into some delivery said Saturday afternoon we've put together various Easter baskets for a number of the people that are close to us in our life we spent several hours driving around town dropping them off not going into people's houses not interacting with too many folks other than here talking to people from six or ten feet away but dropped off a lot of things and it it didn't replace getting together as we normally would over this weekend but it was a pretty good alternative and it just kind of been inspired us all to want to want to get through this define the light at the end of the tunnel so that we can all be a get back together with the sense of normalcy not let let me give you what I perceive at least to be some positive news here and and I understand it's it's it's tough to find silver linings and he's very very dark clouds and I understand that there's all this political tension when you open up the state when do not open up the state at what point do we kick things in the the numbers right now and maybe it's because some of the apocalyptic models that we rolled out a couple weeks ago were inaccurate maybe it's because social distancing is working and people are taking this seriously I don't know about you but the last time was a grocery store I swear I I I'd say six to seven out of ten people were were wearing masks everybody's been keeping their distance I think people are taking this seriously and at least to me it appears to be working now right now in Wisconsin the most recent numbers I have three thousand three hundred and ninety five diagnosed cases out of of Corbett nineteen look round up thirty four hundred now to put in perspective we are in a population of five point eight million so statistically that that's a real small number two point zero zero zero five percent does it minimize it but it just says that it least in Wisconsin what we've been doing and I don't know if it's again it's because we don't have people who we're we're not crammed into mass transportation we don't have that that huge number of people the population density that you do in a place like New York for example but but so far these numbers have not been increasing again with this dramatic rate that we we were afraid of me keep in mind you know that your initial projections were what we might be looking at two twenty two thousand cases of Corbett nineteen bye bye last Wednesday that is not happening in addition the other thing that we're starting to see is that the the number of cases or are leveling out and again I'm not minimizing this but I want to give you for some people who might think there's there's no hope at all of this is just going to be going on and on for months or years I mean here's the deal on Sunday in Milwaukee county and Milwaukee county has been the the one area of the state that's been hit the hardest thirty four hundred cases of of corona virus and of that seventeen hundred and forty six in Milwaukee county more than half the reported cases of coded nineteen come from Milwaukee county for for whatever reason but on Sunday the county reported twenty new cases and at least according to the information I have available the number of new cases reported Sunday and Monday those were the small list increases since March twenty second smallest increases since March twenty second now it could be a statistical anomaly it could be a political I I don't know and I understand that we're converting you know our merchants he field hospitals at state fair park in and and that's all well and good that that's fine because you want to be prepared but at this point in time if you look at the numbers what you're seeing is that stuff is starting to it least level out in the short term can you wanna you wanna play out you don't want to put too much stock in the fact that she we we had a good good day where there wasn't a a massive increase we had two good days where there wasn't a massive increase in Dane county my understanding is the whole weekend they only had one new case of coronavirus report right okay I don't know if that's part of a trend have we flatten the curve his social distancing work if added justification for continuing no continued keeping social distancing we're we're gonna discuss all backed it later on the program but it but I bring this up simply to say that what we have been doing appears to be working and and maybe if this continues to be the trend over the course of the next week or so maybe that informs the decisions and maybe we can start getting back to our lot getting back to our lives sooner rather than later so that that's the numbers a hundred and forty four deaths attributed to cove it nineteen and again the majority of those deaths in in Milwaukee county of although you do have deaths in not in the numbers that you had a walkie county but you have all across the state it's not it's not to say that there's a light at the end of the tunnel necessarily it does say though at least short term couple positive trends all right also today four o'clock they will start announcing election results now keep in mind the election was held last Tuesday federal court order has prohibited the clerks from starting to release numbers that ends at four o'clock today so presumably by later on this evening we will have an idea as to who won the state Supreme Court race and will also have an idea as to for example with Tom Barrett reelected who's the new Milwaukee county executive what about the school referendums all those things what are the elections that we really want to watch well first of all it is the statewide race for the Supreme Court seat I I'd have people been asking for the last three or four days what do you think is going to happen in my interest and I I don't know my sense is it's going to be a close election I understand that there's all sorts of people who are are looking at you know absentee ballot totals and trying to you know draw conclusions about what that means but without knowing the total turn out in different parts of the state you you really you're kind of flying blind so I can't tell you with any confidence whether I I think the challenger Jill Karofsky who is the liberal candidate you know wins or whether justice Dan Kelly the conservative candidate whether he's reelected I I I can't tell you hi I just I don't think if anybody tries to make predictions they are just guessing I think one of the things it'll be interesting to see he is hell will control by did did as well to keep in mind I understand it Bernie Sanders is dropped out so Joe Biden is going to be the democratic nominee for president but as we've been talking about repeatedly it's it's very very difficult for me to see Donald Trump getting reelected and unless he's able to Kerry Wisconsin and one of the things is going to be interesting to me is to see helping to turn out was there for Joe Biden I understand this was an election like no other but it will be interesting to kind of measure how much intensity of support is therefore bide and then try to draw some conclusions perhaps as to what that means you know moving forward in addition we're going to be looking at voter turnout and a and again I'm I'm listening to all this talk is going on hearing people throw around terms like voter suppression and all that sort of stuff it will be interesting to see when all is said and done when we count all the absentee ballots that were submitted and believe me I understand there were a couple problems with talk about that a little bit later in the show as well but when we count all the ballots and we try to compare this selection two other similar elections going to be interesting to me to see what was voter turnout really and was this an example where you have lots of people who really were denied the ability to vote or is this going to turn out to be an election where whether they did it by early voting in person or by mail voting absentee or showing up in casting votes in person you know what exactly was the turnout and how does that compare to previous elections we should know that by tomorrow as well so all those numbers start becoming public at four o'clock right let's take a quick break when we come back well there's all this conversation about whether or not president trump is ready to dump Anthony Fauci we will discuss in just a moment this is Jeff Wagner.

"Back to Jeff Wagner on WTMJ he sent out a tweet you can follow me if you're quicker six twenty and the phrase which you have got the pool boy that story you've got to be kidding me the president sure makes it tough to support him sometimes it really does present expected to commute the crooked governor from Illinois saying some people think this is unfair cool outside of the governor asset of local events outside of his wife and outside of the guys immediate family I don't think anybody thinks this was unfair all right just aggravating especially when you decide to monkey in the criminal justice process on behalf of some of your buddies it's just it it's just it is aggravating in the extreme when anybody doesn't it such as trump I mean I still remember on the way out of office Clinton decided to help pardon this fugitive financier who donated a whose wife could donate a whole bunch of money to his campaigns just absolutely outrageous all right let's get started we have talked on multiple occasions about this effort to try to change the time the taverns have to close during the Democratic National Convention right now all state law says that bars across the state have to close it two in the morning on weeknights and then Friday Saturday savvy study they can close at two thirty why does the state regulate this in the first place if Germantown wants to allow all the bars in the Germantown village of Germantown to stay open all night shouldn't they have the right to do that and my answer would be yes our number eight five five six one six one six twenty that second mortgage talking text line why is the state telling a local community but you have to close the bars at two o'clock in the morning or two thirty of course this comes up in the context of legislation which came through the assembly yesterday came to assembly committees can be voted on next week which for the ten days I think surrounding the Democratic National Convention would allow municipalities to keep bars open until four o'clock in the morning right right right he was bottled up because the tavern league wanted to attach riders to this anti that legislation into legislation which would allow people to serve liquor in wedding Barnes without getting liquor licenses that that was separated out so now it's going through is an independent bill I assume it's going to pass the assembly and Senate I assume the governor was side but I want to talk about this larger point which is moving forward if a local community to sites that you know what we want to allow but we will allow bars stay open twenty four hours no I'm not arguing that that's not that that is necessarily the the best strategy but for example if the city of Milwaukee decides we want to be Las Vegas of the east and we want to create a a bar zone you know down around the convention center in the hotels or wherever and and we want allow the bars stay open all night in this this area why shouldn't Milwaukee be allowed to do that why should the powers that be in Madison say no no no he have to close the bars it too and again I I'm not arguing necessarily that it's a good idea to leave bars open all night but if it up if in okay Wisconsin Dells for example decides he during the summer you know we we want to allow hotel bars for example to stay open all night why shouldn't they have the right to do that eight five five six one six one six twenty that is the accurate mortgage talk and tax line I would argue they should local communities I think should have the right to decide bar closing times and maybe maybe they want to close the bars earlier maybe they should say you know what we we don't like this idea that they can stay open to two o'clock maybe he should say we want to make sure they close it at twelve shouldn't local communities have the right to decide when bars open and when bars close my answer would be yes eight five five six one six one six twenty second mortgage talking text line grew is lining up the calls if you're on the line please hold on me shouldn't Milwaukee be able to cite shouldn't whitefish bay be able to the site shouldn't Germantown be able to decide should in the city of Waukesha be able to decide I think the answer is yes what do you think we discuss in just a moment stick around Jeff.

"Jeff Wagner eight five five six one six one six one is that the accurate mortgage pocket and fax line right where do we go from here there's a lot of Democrats who kissed who want to move on they they recognize that they've done as much political damage to president trump is they think they they can and now it's time to move on and focus on different issues there's all others who say no that this this this is not we cannot accept this verdict we need to continue the investigations the American people can't get enough of this really right let's start with terreno con walk here your first hello how we doing yet I'm well thank you and yourself I'm doing okay okay what do you think I think I heard you mention that the Japanese attack like do a jeopardy which is jeopardy it only applies in a criminal proceeding so it doesn't apply here right and they could they could start the same impeachment proceeding again tomorrow and they'd be about what that'll be brought up at jeopardy was attached and political thing one thing in my opinion attempted extortion is impeachable and that's what prompted okay would you say tempted extortion are you are you talking about something different then they already tried him for well I mean they didn't put extortion into the articles right but that's what it was attempted extortion of the of the president of Ukraine okay so would you like to see them then go back in and try to impeach him again under a different theory I know it's a waste of time because the Republican senators a couch from you was the only one had any any courage to listen to the evidence that they weren't going to to listen because they're afraid of Donald Trump well I guess we're currently here's my thinking is Terry regardless of whether you think that Donald Trump got away with something or whether you think that this was just a witch hunt or whether you're somewhere in between the one thing that I think you and I both agree on is that continuing to go down this route on this issue especially given the fact that you have a an election it's coming up in what ten months nine months or something I I think would be a waste of time and a waste of spirit I think the people in this country have made up their mind on this and and maybe you know you you think he's guilty of extortion and maybe they proceeded on the wrong theory or or whatever I just I don't think the American people have the stomach for continuing this sort of investigation the Democrats took their shop they they they went after him they try to impeach him they failed and candidly you know on this issue the Ukraine phone call etcetera I don't care what John Bolton has to say at this point time it to the extent that it's not going to change the dynamic and the idea that okay we're going to go back to the house and we're now going to spend more time trying to pursue this even further man it talks about making my head explode and and look I I don't know right now president trump is is on a high that's just the reality his daily tracking polls are higher than they have ever been I think a lot of people are looking at what happened with the Democrats especially in Iowa you see campaigns and and arguably maybe a process of selecting a presidential candidate the right now is in disarray that could all change in a couple weeks but but the idea that we're now going to go back and continue tilting at this particular window I I Windell I think that's where you really do you know get a backlash because I think it's gonna be a lot of people that said it okay enough is enough let's move on and let's focus on first of all can we get anything accomplished in the next nine months and then who's the next president going to be is it going to be Donald Trump for four more years or is it going to be someone else let's talk to Ted Ted you're on WTMJ Chris disagree with you mark yeah I know you will I know those who think like you would like to have a smoke on but as a recovering lawyer at you and all that this was not a legitimate the proceeding because they block the weight that you you know you're gonna spend it otherwise because your Republican but you know that that they needed to bring those witnesses then and everybody wants to hear what they have to say and those who are not with the president don't think we should move on because you know the way he is not a stable genius always on the kind of poke a stick at him because of the reaction to get let's play this out south plate will play this out with me all right so you call you call John Bolton John Bolton comes in and he testified okay will look let's just work with bold Nobleton he testifies like his his the manuscript in his book supposedly said okay the trump was within the room or whatever right then do you want to restart the impeachment proceedings I don't know but I know they should have done it right this time because you can't legitimately that you know you like the claims to quit it he was acquitted because there was matching nations that that made it feel legitimate proceeding play this out with me and then what is the operative question is do I understand you're you're bitter that he he got acquitted I get it do you want to see you do what do you want to see them start the impeachment process all over again because that's the only in the near stop get possibly at some time although I know the strategy and the White House was let's kill at this time and then we'll we'll do just like you're going in our scan will be Hey why call back this will you go back to it because it wasn't done right well it was blocked by the White House well I think the what was it I mean it look it wasn't blocked by the White House Mike Mike my goodness everything is out there the the reality was Donald Trump was never going to be removed from office that that was the politics of it I happen to think that it wasn't an impeachable offense and I I'm I'm comfortable with that I do I think that was a comfortable phone call tonight I think they did everything perfectly of course not but but I guess what's interesting to me is from a political standpoint does this country want to say okay let's spend the next four months and let's go back and let's re litigate what we've just spent the last four or five months doing let's bring back the same witnesses and then let's add a couple more and then we'll we're going to have our different theories and then we're gonna go back I mean really is that where we want to spend our time over the next several months my point is people have already decided you know what they think about the the president and I think it's very clear that okay John Bolton can can come come in and testify that's that's not going to change anybody's opinion that's not going to get to sixty seven votes in the Senate to remove him from office especially as we get closer and closer to the election and if you want to talk about alienating whoever is in the middle meet you in my opinion at least I know the Democrats don't listen to me for campaign advice you go down this route say okay here's what we're going to do we're going to go back and we're going to bring in this guy in this guy and this guy that might be red meat to the hard core base who are angry and bitter or whatever word you would use over the fact that Donald Trump wasn't removed from office but I don't think it's going to appeal to mainstream follow folks who said okay we've had this thing play out for the last few months we are they're happy with the outcome or were not happy with the outcome but now let's focus on the important stuff which is you know what else can we do to make this country better over the course of the next several months and then who's going to be the next leader this is Jeff white board white here right after this attorney Tom Nichols finding an honest skilled lawyer to help guide you business interests is important it's especially important when.

"Jeff Wagner on WTMJ so very glad to have you with us okay sixty three million dollars or thereabouts is gonna be dumped into I just on television spending alone not even talking about radio and other social media sort of stuff all the candidates do it because they think that that's the way that they are going to get votes and you're going to see that play out like I say over the course of the next ten months or so around here you are undoubtedly just going to be inundated because every time you turn on the TV over the next few months there's going to be an ad for some Democrat candidate leading up to the primary in April and then after that I it tell you since Wisconsin is a battleground state you're going to be seeing a ton of political ads on the Republican side on the Democrat side it's some it's going to get I think probably to a point in this happens every contested election where it's almost tough for regular advertisers to get space because the political candidates are are grabbing it all up so the fundamental question is does it work does it make any difference and in my argument has been Candace have to do it but I think for the vast majority of candidates I don't think it sways opinion I mean let's take the presidential election may I think the truth of the matter is people are go kia I I can't imagine if you are a Donald Trump supporter I can't imagine that you're going to see an ad run by Bernie Sanders for example and all of a sudden you say hello I'm seeing the light hi I'm I'm feeling the burn I've watched this advertisement and now I'm going to go switch and I'm going to vote for Bernie over Donald Trump I don't see it happening similarly if you are a Bernie Sanders supporter you're part of that Bernie Sanders revolution you see it even if it's the best produce trump bad the world are you going to watch that are you going to say well Gee now I want to go out I I've I've seen the light I'm going to vote for president trump you know I think by and large the these ads don't move the needle especially in a race where the candidates are very very well known no maybe if it's a situation where you have an unknown who's running against a hunting company or something like that you got to run some of these ads to at least get you some name recognition start that AT breakthroughs of people at least become aware of who you are but once you're talking about a high profile of race like the president it's hard for me to see how this changes does that mean you don't run ads no it doesn't mean you don't run ads because here's the real value of my my of the ads the ads in many cases they're not done for the undecideds what they're really done is for the base of support I mean if you are a Bernie Sanders supporter and you know you're listening to the radio or you're watching TV and you don't see anything from your candidate and all you see is attack ads from the other side or whatever you're going where you get you start to get depressed you get angry where's my guy why isn't he why is he responding that does the fact he's not responding mean they think the election's over when you run ads I think they're directed as much towards the base as anyone else because you know you you get fired up Hey I'm a supporter of the present high I mean I yeah there there's the trump bad yeah they're responding they're fighting fire with fire they're not taking this lying down when the other side's running all these different campaigns political advertising a lot of times I don't believe it's necessarily designed to move undecideds especially in races where the lines are drawn as clearly as this what they're trying to do is motivate their supporters motivate their base show that there's a campaign show the campaign has a polls and encourage people to get out and vote so if you say all they're they're not going to change opinions yeah they might not change opinions but the ads aren't necessarily intended to do that they're intended to get you even more firmly entrenched and if you're a truck driver Bernie guy on Elizabeth ward Geyer Joe Biden guy or whatever get you to go out and vote for them it's twelve "Say we do painting you do life Jeff Wagner on WTMJ we are back interesting political story there's a state senators name is Dave Hanson's a Democrat out of Green Bay Inc and he's been there for a long time he's announced that he's seventy two years old he's announced that he he's retiring is not running for reelection which what's this seat very much in play it it's a it's a seat that probably is a Republican leaning seat I would say but Dave Hanson is we've been there for a long time he's getting a royal and he's you know he's been reelected he's a known commodity now that is an open seat I think it's it's probably a toss up or maybe it's a likely leans Republican seat in this district so interestingly enough Democrats scrambling to see who they're going to come up with and so apparently one of the guys that's moving forward is Jonathan Hansen who as it turns out is the nephew of David Hanson so you know you have one of these the legacy things that that's going on the guys alderman from alderman from the pier and he's the father decided that he wants to follow in his uncle's footsteps which is all well and good but I I do always think back to some of the issues member we had these concerns when there was a discussion about whether or not Scott Walker's children one of his kids Matt was gonna run for for Congress and there was all this hand wringing in there was all this concern about all my gosh is this going to be is this this legacy you know we we have multiple generations of of politicians you know trying to run and then the same argument was out there when mark Newman son I believe that was mad as well he was thinking about running for Congress and ultimately decided not to you heard all this the whole we think this is bad for you know that the kids of the existing politicians to run well okay if that's the case is there going to be out rage when Dave Hanson's nephew decides to run war has decided to run we'll see it's twelve thirty let's go to the WTMJ breaking news center here is Melissa mark thank you Jeff some supporters of president trump lined up downtown starting last night to make sure they would have a spot inside the UW Milwaukee Panthers arena that's where he's hosting a rally tonight the president making his first twenty twenty appearance in the state he's also counter programming the box game which starts at seven o'clock tonight also downtown at Pfizer form and the accredit presidential hopefuls debate that is in neighboring Iowa tonight I keep it to WTMJ for updates from downtown starting at three o'clock this afternoon on Wisconsin's afternoon news and meanwhile the house is expected to vote tomorrow to send the articles of impeachment against president trump to the Senate speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi met privately today at the capital with her democratic caucus to discuss the time table airline says it's taking the Boeing seven thirty seven Max out of its schedule for two more months until early June and that means American it will cancel nearly twenty thousand flights in its first five plus months of.

"To Jeff Wagner on WGN J. I also think the president is hitting the right tone in moving forward now keep in mind these missile attacks last week came after a lengthy period of provocation it's not like this comes out of the clear blue you had not only like terrorists planning you had not only terrorist attacks but you had things like the Iranian directed attempt to take over the US embassy in a rock you've had the tankers that were seized in the straits of formosa I mean this is been going on and going on and and going on and at some point in time I think the U. S. has every right to say enough is enough and you are a rogue nation and we're not going to continue to allow you to escalate your provocation without having some sort of response to that and so now you get a lot of saber rattling with this coming out of Iraq but here's the bottom line or a rock knows that it doesn't want to I mean a Ron knows that it doesn't want to get into a shooting war with the United States that that's that's something that you cannot win and I'm not arguing for boots on the ground this is early in a in a run I think you know you don't you don't get involved in that situation but here's the bottom line if a Ron wood to start to launch no state sponsored attacks on US interests were on Tel Aviv or something like that white I think they need to understand that by ratcheting this up there are consequences and I'm one of these guys who just cringe is a lot of times when the president sends out his tweets I think that the trump presidency would be different if it weren't for a lot of these tweets but any here here's the tweet that came out yesterday or release morning a Ron has been nothing but a problem for many years let this serve as a warning that for Ron strikes any Americans or American assets we have targeted fifty two Iranian sites representing the fifty two American hostages taken by around in many many years ago that would be the late seventies at some very hot summer very high level and important to Iran and the Iranian culture and those targets in a run itself will be hit very fast and very hard the U. S. A. he wants no more threats and I think that that's a reasonable position to take this a look okay this this is it if you decide that you want to escalate this conflict if you decide that you want to launch attacks on U. "Welcome back to Jeff Wagner on WTMJ all right there's a story came out of kids is that a police officer had gone into a McDonalds and they had scrawled the something nasty on this police officers come well the cages McDonald's owner is saying that's not true the video proves it this coming out of junction city Kansas McDonald's they're receiving national attention after a hearing to police officer said he received coffee with foul language written on it the owner says they have video showing that it wasn't their employee according to the news station in junction city they got this message from the owner hate my McDonald's have the utmost respect for all members of law enforcement in the military and we were troubled by the accusation we thoroughly reviewed our security video from every angle which clearly shows the words were not written by one of our employees we look forward to working with a chief for today is he continues his investigation I don't date wouldn't it doesn't make sense for a police officer do this himself unless he has a beef with somebody no no pun intended I was somebody at McDonald's but I don't know the police chief then went to Facebook when he found out he said the U. S. veteran that continues to serve deserves much more than this we deal with enough frustration in our daily in our daily duties every day we have something like this to start off your work day while you're driving to the place we're going to serve its citizens is just very frustrating so the police were at McDonald's all weekend looking ex security tape they couldn't find any evidence on Sunday the owner and told them they found new video that proved it wasn't their employees they told the the chief that they bring on the Kip clipped rather but to them to cancel because the roads were very smelly of the police chief just wants answers it so why because the stories the stories gain traction they get out of hand and it just it makes things seem more overblown than they really are other people who have problems with the police yeah are they are they really working in customer service where they're going to risk their job to rate disparaging message on a Cup of coffee I know some people are that dumb they probably would but I don't yeah I don't know I I'm surprised at McDonald's has that much video surveillance that they could see from every angle they could follow a Cup of coffee from the pot to the person who's working there handing it over to a customer and see that nobody nobody could write anything and it was you know it was the usual disparaging police comment so I don't know so the but you know it's a you know the problem is it's the news it's of it's the media that spreads the stories we pick them up but we just need everybody needs content we need to fill things so they all met looks good we're gonna boycott McDonald's now because they wrote something got a police officer's couple well maybe they didn't but then what would you do with it see that's a no no it did Thursday got a quite a fall guy somewhere somebody and you know a minimum wage McDonald's employee is pretty easy fall guy unfortunately out that's the way that's the way things look on the other side of the news we are going to recap the Packers victory rule second seed in the NFC you know that first round by you know that but maybe there's things that Doug Russell knows that you don't know he will share those with us on the other side of the news but right now we have to go to the W. T. M. J. breaking news center because the love the most Barclays bank thank you thank you Brian nice to see you again Milwaukee Brockhouse is holding a fundraiser tonight for a bartender recently killed in hit run nearly fifty bartenders will donate their time from five o'clock tonight to midnight in a fund raiser for Jamie Hansen proceeds will be used for funeral expenses the thirty six year old was killed on Christmas Eve while walking her dogs in Bayview police say a speeding vehicle drove up on the sidewalk hitting Hanson enter pads the vehicle involved has been located but anyone with any information about the driver should contact the police department Wisconsin election officials are expected to consider what to do about more than two hundred thousand voters said that a judge has ruled should be purged from voter rolls in a key swing state that Wisconsin elections commission meets today on that federal criminal charges have been filed against a man with the RTC invaded a rabbi's home instead of five people during a Hanukkah celebration leaving one person critically injured graft in Thomas expected to appear in federal court in White Plains to face five counts of obstructing the free exercise exercise of religious beliefs by attempting to kill with a danger this weapon and causing injury time now for a WTMJ Drake associates market update the Dow is down today one hundred fifteen points to twenty.

"Call here's WTMJ is Jeff Wagner four one four seven nine nine one six twenty Jeff the text to me they are essentially the same as legal immigrants I will talk about the dreamers seven eight hundred thousand people in regards the contributions to the U. S. and self sufficiency to deport them from the only homeland they have known seems like a losing proposition again I I understand the legal issue that the legal issue is the present Congress would not in act this is a law president Obama did this is an executive order and some people don't think you have the authority to do it but that aside if Obama created this program is an executive order shouldn't trump have the right to rescind the executive order and and commit candidly I find that to be a pretty compelling legal argument but that's that's the legal argument that's not saying you know what what should we do with seven or eight hundred thousand people who came into this country as young people brought in by their parents illegally but they they were money were young people and they've gone through high school they are now living here they're not creating problems are these the people that we want to spend time deporting Vincent on the northwest side visit your first hello good afternoon yeah hi first of all if if the Supreme Court not doctor down or or or the says that the president has the right to do that the fact is we're not going to we are going to deport that many people it's just not gonna happen well you wouldn't think we would support that many of those type of people I know that you know me I if I were prioritizing I got to tell you that the people that have registered under this circumstance they would they would be the last number of people that I would want to deport that there's got to be a lot more people are in this country illegally that are creating problems than the dreamers they are reporting part of this economy the fact is that doctors lawyers police officers the fact is that that the fact is we had better is it exactly that would be basically automatically a look that is illegal the fact is you have them document the fact these individual documents prepared taxes it is and that sort and now you're going to put this to you got basically put people there allow them to say where they're going to go underground that's exactly what's going to happen and use it and it and the fact that this country is not in the mood to sit around and go up to the fact is the gang of eight plan I think this is the path is as far as immigration the concert helping government about what they did when they did this but the fact is we hear I think it should stand there because we do it in a class the class if they go out at the that do that yeah I can I can and and that's the and that's that the policy of this and get I I appreciate that the legal argument putting on my you know recovering lawyer hat I I understand the argument the argument is president Obama didn't have the authority to do this after Congress said no you shouldn't be able to do this by executive order I am sympathetic to that I I I am and it also seems to me that if you created by executive order you should go get rid of it by executive order but that's not to say whether the policy is good or bad Jeff I agree with you prioritize resources by removing the criminal elements then focus on obtaining legal citizenship the right way Jeff I would let them stay another text also with the caveat that they can demonstrate that they also have health insurance but the same time I would also putting a stop to let them attend public school get drivers licenses set for now keep in mind most of these people registers the dreamers they're they're out of there they're out of school I mean this is there they they've been here for a period of time they're out of school they're serving in a productive capacity and again I also appreciate the fact that you know we we don't want this to look like a amnesty I mean kill president trump from what I understand was was ready to just sign off on this and then a number of advisers said well okay you have to understand this is going to alienate your base people going to consider this to be amnesty and and so they he decided to go the other way I I just I I appreciate we have a problem with the border we have a problem with illegal immigration the the seven hundred thousand people though aren't the ones that I am particularly concerned with four one four seven nine nine one six twenty that's accurate mortgage talk and text line Jeff so to me they are simply the same as legal immigrants in regards to the contributions to the U. S. and self sufficiency to deport them from the only homeland they have known seems to me like a losing proposition I guess I would say that as well take off the recovering lawyer had tried to put on a good public policy hat and and you get a different result a like I say who knows with the supreme court's going to do this this might be a victory for the trump administration saying a legally you can do it but even if that's the case I hope somebody reconsiders whether this is where we want to spend our resources to say and.

"Jeff Wagner on WGN okay four one four seven nine nine one six twenty here is the story and and again this is one that makes my head explode I want this sure I want to share it with the thirteen flags the thirteen stars I wanna Betsy Ross sure to find one that Betsy Ross flag and I want one of these shirts as well alright here's the deal Chris Pratt who's you know that the Marvel movie actor probably best known for his roles in court in a galaxy in the Avengers okay the other day he's out in public with his wife he's wearing a tee shirt okay the tee shirt is it represents the they they call it the Gadsden flag this is the flag that has the the American flag and then it's got the quill rattle snake in front of it with the text don't tread on me you have perhaps seen it this this month this flag this is the iconic again the call of the gags than flags Gadsden flag it was created by American general Christopher Gadsden in seventeen seventy five during the revolutionary war it was meant to symbolize liberty and freedom now you might have seen in recent years because yeah this was a flag that the tea party when the tea party was big a number of years ago that that that was used by the U. S. men's soccer team has used this image the Gadsden flag for for it's kind of again logo a number of bands Metallica has used this as well okay now what is happened over the last couple years is that a hand full of like white supremacist group we're we're talking about the people sitting in their basement and you know the mom's basement in their underwear have also you know kind of sort of tried to appropriate this flag but it really hasn't taken off you know it hasn't taken off in any way shape or form any big level sunny hell Pratt is out he is wearing the shirt and the internet goes nuts Yahoo writes this big story about how here's Christopher Pratt and he's wearing this shirt that is linked to white supremacists and of course it generates all this again angst on the internet how terrible this could possibly be how could this guy be doing it it is he really a white supremacist all right our number four one four seven nine nine one six twenty that is the accurate mortgage talking text line we only have a couple minutes I don't know about you but I am sick to death of the politically correct and the perpetually offended looking for something that they can play the race card or the white supremacist cars were the hater card on this again this is a flag design which goes back to the seventeen seventies all right it is commonly used it has a simple you'll don't tread on me no it it says I we want to stand up for freedom now look maybe there's somebody in the dark corner of some internet somewhere you know uses this is their crazy simple all right that doesn't mean that because you have a handful of people they can coop that and I guess I wanna say shame on Yahoo for and they're the ones that ran this story for blowing this into a story and creating a controversy where none of this exists four one four seven nine nine one six twenty that second mortgage talking text line of course this comes on the heels of Colin Kaepernick telling Nate he well I don't think we should have the Betsy Ross flag designed on shoes because some people might find it offensive well okay at what point in time do we stand up and say look when it comes to these different historical flag designs right people have a right to express themselves without being fearful of being labeled as white supremacists or racists are haters four one four seven nine nine one six twenty Jeff and fox point Jeff your first hello Hey Jeff this takes me out for two reasons one is that Chris Pratt there's a lot of community service of like children's hospitals yeah he definitely does not deserve this and then to I'm sick of the flag being associated with racism and false ways and my aunt gave me a plague you know I was a little kid I still have this I mean them that my family to racist now did you give your flag like this like the don't tread on me flag or some different we all it was different but I mean the idea of the American flag because it's happening in other ways like anything it's this is right it is this whole idea that be call I mean mean that the headline stories the outfit becomes a lightning rod on social media well okay that's because again you have the perpetually offended in the politically correct that are out there obsessing about this tip type of stuff Gee what can we be offended about today and here you have a guy like Chris Pratt who is a really like you said Jeff he's a really really good guy good guy does lots and lots of volunteer work and you know what he's proud to be an American right so this is the statement he makes so for everybody who participated in tea party activities you know over the years okay you'll now if you've got one of these shirts that again have an historical significance there are some of these kooks out there that have decided that well your racist then you have to be a hater at some point in time we need to just kind of push this back and say look this real racism in this world but when you have people that again use this as their default position they're not helping if you can want to see some of the controversy follow me on Twitter it's at Jeff Waker six twenty back with more just a moment don't go anywhere John Wagner.
