Google Plans to Expand Its Campus Which Might Become Unsafe

"Google is expanding its campus in the san francisco bay. Area the companies. Planning to build offices as well as housing and greenspace near the shoreline which is at risk from rising sea levels. And that's raising the question of whether building there should happen at all. Npr's lauren summer has the story as a city planner in silicon valley. Michelle king. here's all about one of the biggest headaches in the bay area housing. Oh my goodness housing. Here is extremely expensive. Sunnyvale has very high cost of living in may the median. Home price in sunnyvale. Where king works was one point. Eight million so the city is looking at a different kind of housing higher density. That's walkable transit and greenspace. It would go into a part of town called moffett park right now. It's just offices lots of low rise buildings with wide parking lots one of the most sustainable things you can do is put people where they work and put people where transit is so. This is a huge opportunity. This isn't just sunnyvale vision. It shared by one of the largest landowners. Moffett park google over the last five years. The company has quietly bought more than seventy properties. Here worth almost three billion dollars. Jeff holtzman is google's director of real estate development for sunnyvale. We're incorporating sustainability into everything we do in our developments and we're doing it to support our employees but also the community and hopefully the environment. Sunnyvale is in the process of rezoning the land to allow google to build new offices and housing and just to know. Google is one of npr's financial supporters. And there's one more detail the city is looking at. This land is on the shore of san francisco bay which puts it right in the path of sea level rise sea level rises already happened. I we've seen about a foot over the last hundred years. Christina hill as a professor of environmental planning at uc berkeley. We're standing on the edge of the bay where a high tide is coming in. Hill says sea level rise will make these tides even higher by as much as seven feet by twenty one hundred. But that's not the only problem there's also seawater in the soil under our feet the groundwater and as the c rises that to- of saltwater under the soil is gonna rise also

"Welcomed around the house guys lack so you this last week. We're on jeff devlin's stonehouse revival show. How cool is that. He asked us back on board to do research for yet another youthful beautiful historic home This one is centered in langhorne. Pennsylvania is through the underground railroad dates back to about eighteen ten. We love the story especially because of the women that we found in the research. Just picking up the family with horrible tragedies and you know just surviving so the original Land where the house is situated. Today was part of a five hundred. Eighty four acre tract. That was deeded. From william penn as all of the land in pennsylvania was once william. Penn's he was a londoner who was given the state of pennsylvania before it was the state of pennsylvania was just land at the time From king charles and he started to sell off a parcels of acreage to people that he wanted to make sure you know. He was bringing his people over usually quaker sympathetic. To kind of william. Penn's background so the quaker faith came over from england so the original tracks. Five hundred eighty four acres in bucks county which was wilderness at the time and then it got parceled out from the original owner down through family Through the mail side of the family until the owner of the property that actually built the house was the richardson family. They built the house in about eighteen ten And we were able to really track the family stories from the very beginning of five hundred. Eighty four acre parcel down to the families that lived in the house themselves. and way through really their geology. We went through all of the census records. Swear it's cool when you pull a census record you're able to go back and see the names of the people that lived in the house. How old they were their occupation the value of the property. So it's really interesting to take a look back in time just to see what the family make up was

"Creed kind of like the Green Berets and have their own pretty sure we were challenged by a Green Beret to develop our own Creed and we did it and it's it's a really cool thing every Monday morning after our meeting we just talked about this is what what we are and this is what we're about and it helps transfer culture to the new people who come in that, you know, we're we're known because we lead by example, you know, we adapt and overcome and all those kind of fun things and that's that's pretty cool because it's like you can just point at the wall and go well for championships off. We're probably not wrong. Yeah national championships, right? That's right. It's almost like you've got the Vince Lombardi crib behind what you're talking about. But we have banners hanging in the foyer said I kid you not a home, you know how they hang banners and Coliseum. Yeah. We did this. We did this real nice Fair appreciation lunch for him and I didn't tell any of them what I was doing and I had these banjo Rolled up in the rafters. And so at the end of the celebration was over we were all upfront getting our pictures made and I grabbed the mic and I said in two thousand and three landscape you thought Ole Miss one national award and the guy went over there any ripped. He'll pull the cord in the banner drops down like a you know, 2003 National Championship how to do it again a 2009 Newsweek name's Ole Miss most beautiful campus in the nation and another a pulls down the next one. And so now we got these four banners hanging out there and it's like yeah baby person a ride. Yeah. Yeah. That's yeah, that's that's all part of the college scene to yeah. Yeah, so like winning a game. Yeah, you know, that's those guys are so passionate about sports. They all are in the SEC southeastern conference is just a porch a sports driven culture. So we I leverage that I use that as much as I can whatever image Takes to get people to love what they do. This is funny a guy was working for me and he says Jeff I hate putting out pine needles around the plants pine needles is our mulch here kind of like wood chips or Cypress to pick up, right? Yeah. That's true. Yeah, and he goes, I hate it and we put out a lot of it. I mean we put out lots of and he goes but I do it I do it because it helps our head football coach recruit the next Dexter McCluster in the next Eli Manning in the decks. That's awesome. But you know, he was connecting with the fact that that's fine needles helps the football team. That's true true. Yeah because we get our coaches to come we get our coaches to come to our meetings on Monday and and just sort of brag on the guys. We want them to we want them to feel that long in that importance and lift up their job. So that's a lot of fun. So your website is Jeff McManus speaking. Com. Yeah now you speak for not just in the Landscaping wage. So you're all over the place. I know you give us some more examples of the folks that you've you've spoke for. Well, I've I've spoken to a few in the green industry. I've gone to Caterpillar Chick-fil-A Chick-fil-A. That's good. Yeah workers or they I mean they yeah, they need a lot of help or no..

"All the time on a weekly basis and what. I tell everybody who I give this advice. I tell them you won't do it because they don't and the reality is that it's really really simple and it does work. Give a story of when I was at Google for five years. When you're at Google you get hit up by everybody and I got hit by so many people on a daily basis weekly basis yearly basis in one day this guy. He took the time to say. Hey Jeff I came across his cool article what do you think and I said. I'm not even reading that article. How can I help you? Because earth person that's reached out to me and offered something instead of asking for something of maintenance years. Google only one person ever did that. And that is crazy Man I'm a Mama. Make sure my google alerts is looking great. Soccer does have a plethora of articles ready to go. Love it for sure. This might be a little bit of a departure but would you say linked him premium is worth at especially for. Maybe someone who's just been laid off and it's just like aggressively surges. A personal question. Joe Joe who? I am not doing that. Because that raises flags automatically to Your Plane. At least for me. Looking a your. I haven't really done much Lincoln in such a long time that I don't even know if there's a huge difference between premium inches regular I always think any investment you can make is a smart investment in you. Can I mean it depends on how aggressive you WANNA go? I mean you can even get linked in recruiter light which is like a hundred and twenty dollars a month. You can get building tools. There's a tool that anybody can use an MFA. Throw this one out. There is a tool called contact out and contact out has thirty days free and in those thirty days free. It's awesome you. It's a basically a plug in anybody's profile to on linked in you just click and you'll get about a sixty to seventy percent hit rate on their email address and it's again it's thirty days for free and there's a bunch of those services that give you free trials but to anybody who's looking at their career. I mean if you WANNA make a small investment in Langton I say do at that. Investment will pay off tenfold. Especially if you can't reach somebody like their a third connection and you wanna send him an email. Yeah absolutely. It's work. Yeah I mean I see Wade. So how much does it cost to go premium on a Lincoln? I duNNo. Gioja what is it? Maybe it's like fifty bucks a month or something. I think it depends a year rate. Jeff there's like hierarchies I think a little googling right now but it's not like any more expensive than like going out one night and the month twenty. That's basically.

"Hey Jeff I'm Oh how you doing. Oh man this is crazy. The last time I was at a party I think might be your Hanukkah party. I don't think we're doing parties anymore. Jeff I think that's kind of the end of that. This is our party I open a catering business so it's like that doesn't even exist anymore. Neither does the stand up comedy business too. If you're two for two we're GONNA come back but you know he's not going to come. Back is a close up magician there. What do you envision over what he? What do you envision is a standup show Come back how how's IT GONNA look Well as we all experiences. We're starting out is you know. Audience is small so I don't ever want to go back to that. I'd rather stay home and either find something else to do or or be broke and perform for like social distance audiences. I thought wouldn't it be silly? I thought you were saying you. Didn't you'd rather stay home and be broke than ever perform to audiences less than the thousands of people you currently perform for. No WELL WE PERFORM FOR NOBODY. So if you tell me all right you can perform every night for forty people sitting ten feet apart. I'm like all right. I'd rather just call your podcast and stay home and do other write a movie. I was thinking. Jeff here's my idea for a live show or the first one out. There's a drive in movie theater about forty five minutes away from La we do. We do a big do a big show. Everybody comes in their car and instead of hearing laughter. They just honk their horns. Are you love that that I would do that anything? Once I've been on the back of trucks performing desserts in war zones like I'll perform on zoom outperform. I don't give a shit. Have you done zoom so yet? I've just a zoom like showed up at friend's parties so I like it because I could scout everybody out without them knowing it. That's nice as a roaster. That's really good. You get the kind of sniff out everybody's weaknesses for a extended period of time and then attack. When I've got them all revved up in my chamber I can say all right mute me unleash the roast master. Jeff Mute this mother. Jeff you've been doing these instant INSTA- roasts and you made fun of Cova patient who is on a ventilator right. He told me he said he said brand. Just make me laugh please. I don't know if it's I mean it was. I saw Jeff. It was beautiful. It was hilarious. It was touching. It's it was exactly what you do. Which is like sweetness through through roasting. But I was also concerned with making a person with an upper respiratory. Pneumonia situation laugh too. That's a good idea. Well you're right. Because he died did he know he's it was actually a nice connection. Because I asked the fans like and I put it on instagram. Like looking for the guy because these people come up on my instant roast randomly so he was a one in a million or one thousand chance of and then he's sitting there in a New York hospital on a respirator waiting for help and you arrived. Yeah then I arrived to To try to give them some levity but also like you have fans like salivating. Waiting for a roast. So I can't even remember what I said but I think it had something to do with. How ugly he was. I'm sure the mask didn't help at all but I kind of no not at all. I've got a better at a rough time with the Kobe. And using the hospital for a while. And now he says he's doing better and he actually watched the INSTA- roast with the nurses he said and they really last a lot so I felt good myself. That's really sweet. I'm Kinda depressed. Jeff thought that like you would have like a really positive attitude towards comedy and you would say it'll back in like fuck it it's over. I just enrolled an online law school. I'm divorce attorney now if anybody any listeners. If they would've put an end to their endless honeymooners. Siham meal some legal the way things are going Jeff. We might be calling you for some of that advice as well. Not just as a podcast. Got The torch the torch master general coming in the legal brief master general. Wait so jeff your quarantining alone. Now I'm here with my girlfriend and two dogs. Yeah you found a German shepherd on the street in Hawthorne what's founder and we. We almost got a German shepherd. We tried to buy German shepherd from a weird Russian woman that promised us they would attack anybody that looked at funny but then in the end. We've got a little scared. Yeah no we. We traced her whole thing and she was a movie dog she was she was. She tortured a terrorist and zero dark thirty now. She's retired really your dog has an MD PhD. She's just a you know we actually thought she was really old and lamps and she's blind but but As we kind of take take her in our house in our hearts. I feel like she's getting younger. She's getting stronger and her name is Rona Corona. So that's very sweet here in inviting this love and tear life this new responsibility so she was so gross That we had the the the groomer came in charged US double. She had like flies and our regular dog. Luna was so mad at us for bringing this homeless crack whore into her ballots. Are you noticing any of the Telltale German shepherd signs like like ultimate loyalty and suspicion of strangers. She Barks Jeers. Oh that's an even more traditional terms. Well you're that might not work out really well. Yeah but I I. I've I've seen her. She hasn't had she hasn't been like we you know. I'll put it this way. My girlfriend has a Dutch shepherd right. Who's eight years old? Who's in really good shape? And she's a greatest song ever and But my girlfriend's a vegetarian so she's never had stocks. Never had Toshi met me so now she thinks I invented this. I mean you you're a do so that's close enough isn't it? You introduce Pastrami and I have gone back to the same Deli for the Pastrami Sandwich. Unit is to five times. I love that good and you know what it's made life better. We really never had Pastrami met Jeff. Yes he was at Largo and he had the sandwich and I couldn't stop eating and he told me it was from green bats and it was Pastrami and I've gone back many times over the years for it wasn't this year. No is a couple of years ago anyway. The point is all right. Well Jeff Destroying Bobby. Yeah now you know what to have in bed on. Mother's Day I was just GonNa want to keep your fucking Pastrami away from my wife. Dude I destroy me Well Jeff. Thank you for letting. Us call you and reach into your quarantine We love you. We miss you and we thought maybe you could help us. We do advice calls and people call in. They've got issues and we try to help solve them and you can also roast them if you want. Well that might have to happen. Because I can't really say that I'm GonNa be a relationship expert. So neither are we could get if they can get through me. Maybe you can help. Give them some some hell. Let's do it we're going to. We're going to how Dana in Austin you're going to hear a second of Silence Jeff and then we will be connected. Jeff Still Connected Olen Dana. Can you hear us? I can hear you pretty well. Okay far away but I got it. We'll we'll try to get closer. What's happening so my issue is that I met this man named Charlie on a niche fetish website about a year ago The men on this site are willing to spend money to establish relationship or friendship with the women on the site They sometimes by content like photos or videos or send us money via email or other payment ass bias stuff off our wishlist Charlie specifically stated that he was looking for a real relationship and not something transactional so I made him think. I was interested in him when I really only wanted his money And now almost a year later. I am actually interested in him and I don't know how to move forward with something real after my initial deception. Okay I have some questions. What's what's the niece. I have some questions and you have weekends. 'cause I'm I'm looking for a assistant for my Production Company Jeff. You don't even know what the niches yet. I don't feel comfortable answering that because it's such a specific thing that I feel go without like our communities really small man we can we guess towards it or like how Nisha Nisha like white panties and he liked has a flashlight and looks up your panties. "And i feel like we live in of were were heading towards a classic kind of this tokia and they're gonna know things about you are this is where we we've discussed as many times it oh i argued that you can't control knowledge you can't control be gathering of information which after control the use of it and so it does it become a legal to do a psychiatric analysis of us on this show will the charron's for doing that for years yes so it's tough russ dr bomb has certified as long light god she claimed she has not certified me his me noted that a though she loves you it's me it's all about me and then a little bit ahead jeff i and i i just i buy shoes either i mean of course is solution to it it's not by these devices in his two may maybe mussa more with a snow internet but i just very i feel i were we there's even sin and obvious solution he reset rules about how we can use this and gutters offsite you use the days after a doctor mom says it's not illegal just unethical that's right a an an an and it'll ethics use of data lamy ethics have gone out the window that's why this this growing group of a moral hackers see what's what's with it turns out the only thing that's really prevented people from being completely militias to one another is society and norms and they're we've raised a generation i think of people who don't have anything to hold the back any more now you'll solve their they they're suffer from extreme ano me and misogyny they don't feel like a part of society and the whole generation no baranov's goes within it yes so lille i recommend highly highly row time for the subtleties gore full detailed this week i i wrote a piece won't wall was gone on media manipulation.
