"And by tyrants, they mean duly elected representatives from another part of America for Fox sake, like tyrants. These assholes, if you want to do something about tyrants, get a rowboat and go fix Boko Haram or the Saudi royal family or go stand in the current gathering of the Communist Party where Xi Jinping is guaranteeing himself another cycle against their own constitution. The people's constitution or whatever the fuck they call it. And making himself relatively permanent. I like that this is starting to trend now. I couldn't but Karen Rogers now. He's the new government. I love that. Really what? Two. Sit two. Let me see your manager. However, the manager? Yeah. I got to ask you about this one. This was the best, enough you heard about this. North Dakota lawmaker forced to miss anti vaccine rally. After catching COVID-19. He was not the code of lawmaker of a rally to oppose COVID-19 vaccine mandates is infected with the coronavirus and won't attend the event Republican Jeff. Republican representative Jeff hobson posted on Facebook Sunday that he was quarantining and each day is getting better. The lawyer make a lawmaker lawmakers that he's taking the deworming drug Ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment and has not checked into a hospital. You can't write this shit out. Cheers. You just can't. Well, I can. I'm a genius. I can write anything. I just wouldn't. There will be two on the nose. It's not that I couldn't think this up, but I would think it up and go another one of these stories. Another anti vaxxer dipshit who gets it and then it has to stay away from everybody because he realizes while it's taking hold of his immune system and his lungs and his blood that this might not be good. And by the way, again, a good portion of this isn't about whether you end up in the hospital with lung problems and on a ventilator and die. There are all sorts of ancillary affects of getting the wild type or the delta virus, especially without any vaccination protection without the antibodies because it affects your brain. It affects you, you know, they've got gray matter shrinkage and all these long haul issues and shit like that. You want to roll the dice on that shit. It's just bizarre. And again, how do these people believe that this was a bioweapon created in the Wuhan lab and yet not want to protect themselves and their fellow Americans against a bioweapon? You know what I mean? Well, you don't think about it out. It's like, if you were bitten by a poisonous snake, you were bitten by a rattlesnake. Wouldn't you immediately want the anecdote? Yeah. Yes. I'm sorry, the anecdote. Right. I mean, so these idiots if they were bitten by a freaking poisonous steak, wouldn't they immediately walk the antidote, but you don't want the end of them for COVID. And also they have to believe that it was a Chinese snake sent by the Chinese government to kill them, and yet it's not real. And other people who worry about being bitten by it are overreacting and are trying to destroy America and are helping the very people that sent the poisonous snake. Like it's the stupidest. The pretzel logic that is involved in their rejection of the vaccine and stuff is freaking embarrassing. And right now, like Gavin Newsom has taken family time off as governor for like 11 days or something. And because he had just gotten his.

"The Lawrenceburg exit. I'm Lance McAllister, Alex Franco, the other side of the glass answering your calls. Join us at 5137491 7800 the big £1 700 on a TNT. We've got a couple of different things. Reds brewing. Jeff Hobson joined us in the first hour to talk a little Bengals around 6 35. That podcast is up and available through the I Heart radio app. I've got a question to pose at 8062. Tonight about a major decision the Reds made Based on you. To this point it has been received in the form of a grand slam of an approval rating. We'll get into that coming up after the eight o'clock hour news question before the news, would I rather play the Dodgers are Giants in the one game wild card. And then get the other in the next round. Uh, giants or Dodgers Right now, it would be the Dodgers, and if the Reds hold on to the second wild card spot, they would play one game. Win or go home in Los Angeles and then winner of that, then, if they win, they would get Right now. The Giants question was which one would I rather have first? Uh, I'm going to say this going. It's going. It's going to sound like I'm sliding the Giants. I'd rather have the Giants first. I think the reds have, and I know everybody and said, Well, what about Buster Posey? I know I was 2000 and 12. Matt Latos isn't here. Um to me, the Giants see more. Beatable in one game that the Dodgers semen I mean, the Dodgers are a beast. I know the Giants lead the division, The Dodgers are outscoring their opponents by over 200 runs this year. And it's either Walker. It's either Max Sugars or Walker Buehler. If it's the Giants, it's probably most likely. Kevin Gausman the one time read, Um the Giants currently lead the division by 2.5. No disrespect, But if you gave me a choice Assuming the Reds hold on to the second wildcards, but I would take one game against the Giants and take my chances. If I had a choice, and I don't have a choice. I have every line open except one talking reds at 5137491 7800 the big one and pounds 780 T. I wrote about this today on the blog. And have kind of updated it from what I said about him three weeks ago because he keeps doing impressive things. I think we've I think we lose sight of the fact. Vladimir Gutierrez is 25 years old and is a rookie. And how many teams in baseball Have a rookie leading off in a rookie at times batting cleanup. India and Stevenson and are getting quality starts out of a rookie pitcher like Vladimir Guerrero, and what the ridge or Gutierrez and what the Reds are getting right now. He certainly doesn't pitch like a rookie. He doesn't look like a rookie on the mound. This is a guy who entered this season. Having not pitched last year. He entered this season on a suspension. For a P D violation. The last We saw Vladimir Gutierrez before this season. Was it triple A in 2019? You know what his earned run average was 604 in 27 starts for the Triple A Louisville bats. And what has he done here? He has made 16 starts. His record is nine and four. His earned run averages. 3 68, the Reds have won 10 of his 16 starts. I said there's a couple of weeks ago and I'll say it again. What if he had struggled? What if he was not up to the task of taking the ball for 16 starts? Anybody feel comfortable that anybody else they would have plugged in? The Reds would have won 10 of his 16 starts Be it Santy on, or Jeff Hoffman or somebody else at Triple A They've won 10 of his 16 starts. What if what if. Instead, the Reds had gotten 16? What if they've gone? Uh six and 10 in the starts with somebody else or four and 12 with somebody else. Where would this team B? And he was dealing again yesterday, seven innings, three hits, one run eight strikeouts in his last six starts, his earned run averages. What 86 It's not just six starts in those last six starts, he's gone at least six innings. It has given up two runs or fewer. Did I mention he's a rookie? Who didn't pitch last year. And then in the middle of all of this Is doing this. He's had six starts this year, where he gave up one run. He's had six more starts this year, where he's given up two runs. Are you kidding me? And of those 16 3 have been poor. That's it. He got beat up by the Padres twice. He got beat up by the Mets. In the other 13 starts his earned run averages. 2 37. The rookie. Pitching in a playoff chase. Now. If you look a little bit deeper, His numbers indicate he's been a little bit lucky. His earned run average should be a little bit higher. Based on always peripherals. You would also be fair and saying, I'm a little bit worried about the workload. He's thrown 110 innings this year. 93 of the major 17 at Louisville, 110. He didn't pitch last year. Now he threw or no, he didn't pitch like he was at Pascoe. Pretty sure he's at Prescott was. I think it was a press go for at least part of it. But 100 and 10 innings is a sizable jump from 2019 when he last pitched in games, So there is a fair question. You know how many innings does that arm having him this year? I just know this He has turned in a hell of a rookie season to this point. And I'll say this one more time because I think it's the this is context and perspective on just how far this team has come. They have 69 wins. That's more than they won over four consecutive seasons. 2015 16 17 18. And there's still 36 games to go. Back to the phones. Trenton is the stop. Hey, John. Welcome to sports talk. What's going on, man. You tell me what's on your mind. Well, you know. You got moose. And you got Flores? Yeah, I think Suarez. I think we just need to put a garden gnome on second base and then everybody's good because he can He knocks every run in that's on the path. But if there's nobody on the basis peak, it's nothing. That's why he's got what he got. 65 57 R B. I. And.

"That means there's going to be there's two spots. They're behind the big four spots. And you know he's got You know, he's got affordable competition there with with Mike Thomas and Stanley Morton, who are too pretty sauce. Special teamers. Mike knows that the scheme real well, Stanley is a very good special teams player. You know, I think this like a lot of the spots. You know, we're talking about talking 345 spots. I think it comes down to, uh, Sunday to see what happens. But Irwin is a real interesting game. It's just a tough that's just tough. A tough quarter crack, but maybe he'll play so well on You know Sunday? Maybe they say, Well, we've got to keep setting machines if he plays so well, so you know, we'll see what happens. I remember back in 2010 when said of him and you know, nobody thought parent was gonna make the team and he rushed for 90. He rushed for 96 yards, and he became a special team staple on two division winners and Hi playoff teams. So, uh, always always that pre season finale is always fun. He is Jeff Hobson read all about it. Bengals dot com. Always good catching up, and I hope we can do it again soon. Answer your the best. Thanks very much. 33 Jerez for Travis Shaw. There you go. "He's going to be happy today because Travis Shaw hit a dramatic Walk off Grand Slam and the Red Sox win big win for them today. Let's welcome in from Bengals dot com. Jeff Hobson, How are you? Thank you very much to mention that Lance. I was going to mention any good to see in Ohio Guy. What's the what they needed. Yeah, they need something. They need something. Believe me. It's been a rough three weeks. Yes, It certainly has. All right, Let's get into the Bengals. Let me start with, I guess the day that was for Jamaar Chase, because as as much hand wringing as there was it sounds like today's performance may have caused some to walk in off the ledge, Jeff Yeah, I think it's you know, pre season. There's nothing to set the alarms off like preseason when it doesn't mean anything, but made a nice catch today working against Trae Waynes. Here's the guy, you know. He comes in. He asked Troy Walters, receivers coach after the game Friday night. Can I come in and work on Saturday? The off day? So they spent that, uh, Troy was banging tennis balls off the wall. Uh, and about 405 100 balls off the wall. And, you know, just getting his focus back watching. They've been watching game tapes of what he was doing at l s u So you know Taylor, Tyler Boyd and Tee. Higgins talked to the media today and they've all gone through this. Troy Walters as we serious coach was with the Peyton Manning Colts. Remembers dropping three punts in the game and didn't didn't get cut went on caught 55 balls with, uh, for Manning in the six touchdowns, So I think everybody goes to is it goes through it. Lance, even if you're the fifth pick in the draft. Jeff the Let me flip the script over to defense and that Joseph assigned News is not official. Nothing confirmed by the organization. It looks like the initial reports are are not good. If he is the missing significant amount of time. What does that mean for this team coming off the edges? Well, it puts. It puts a lot of stress on, uh, the rookie camp sample and the starters. Uh, um You know, trade Henderson and Sam Harvard have been really good camp samples been really good. He's been at camp samples, man as advertised, been able to go up and down. Aligned and then that tackle But when you got a depth problem, Khalid Kareem has done their fifth round around an old game from last year, has looked good in camp before he went down on his shoulder. He's back. If he's back up and going, that's a good sign. Because I think clean to get more lot of good snaps, uh, in the rotation, and I obviously they're looking for 1/4 end no expenses in here, but Tell you where. The interesting thing with three preseason games they They've got two weeks to put the roster together, which is, you know, in the past, it's been 9 10 days. It's been kind of done on the fly. You get more time here. And you know there's going to be a lot of moving packs, I think in the bottom of the Boston there's no question depending on what the prognosis is with was is with those signs like you said. It's not good. And I'm bangle set some time. There, too, were try and get something, And, you know, particularly if cream is back and ready to go. Um, you know, I think I think we'll be okay there. I'll tell you, Hubbard, Hubbard and Henderson Have been really good. Henderson is on the edges. He's been as advertised. He's been really good against the run. Jeff A lot has been said and written a lot of Callum entries on this defensive in camp. You just mentioned some of the names. What else or who else stands out to you so far on this defense? You can't help but not notice number 22, who's a the corner they picked up from Dallas. I mean, he's been great, but so of all the other sort the trade. Wayne does not counted in this class because he Came into free agency last year, missed the entire year with an injury. He's been really good. I mean, uh, T hate has made a great catch on him today, and Wayne's was blanket on him. When Chase made that catch Wayne's was blanking on these corners have been All over the receiver. That's that's been a significant difference from years past. And, uh you know, I think the linebackers have quietly been been very good. You don't notice the linebackers in a camp with I mean, you know in seven on seven when you get the corners covering and and one on ones when you get the big linemen working, but the linebackers have been You know, they've been very confident When they've been in the games. There. They really get a They really had to speed it up. They had to get younger there. They had to get fast. So far they have been The The offensive line, of course, is on the mind of everybody. They they kind of juggled the guards to this point. Do you see this so line beginning to settle, solidify as we get closer to the opener. I think we'll know. You know, we'll know on Sunday what Frank Paul has in mind. I think he's already kind of Zach Taylor trying to hit it hinted at it, and it sounds like the veterans. You know the veterans to a fellow in Spain. Uh, played well the other night. It looks like this sounds like you know to me. I would think whoever can I try to get Zack on this and he wasn't He didn't really want to tip his hand because they are looking at the tape and everything, but, uh, My sense is whatever line they put out their Sunday against stopping the one that put out there in the opening. Uh, at least I think they'll be the plan, but they would obviously have two weeks ago. Change that, But I mean, I think that they liked A young guards and, you know, I know people are upset that some of them are starting, but I think they like how physical they are, how they how they fit them all but Has to play in the league. It has to play in the north, and I think you know if it takes it takes a couple weeks. It takes a couple of games for them to get the light up. They're fine with that, but I think they feel like and Dante Smith and Jackson Time and they've got two young guy and Michael Jordan make it they'd get some young guys who are physically able to do that, Mr Vision. Do you? Here's a question. You probably haven't been as lightly do you think we'll see Joe Burrow on Sunday? Yeah, I, um Joe Barlow is a very persuasive God. Um, you know if he probably the the day he's done playing quarterback here 20 years from now, it's probably a house seat form somewhere in Ohio. Uh, This guy is very persuasive, so he wants to play my money is he'll play? Um, I I just don't know how long I would say. Get here. Quick on Sunday. Don't linger. The consistency stand for that first series, but I I chose a pretty persuasive guy, so he wants to play. Maybe you will 11 more question and everybody knows the top of the Bengals depth chart. Let me drop down a little bit, because it's the name that keeps popping up, And I wonder how you view him fitting into the equation if he does Trenton Irwin Yeah. I mean, a damn horse guy, then abandoned a great podcast with Clinton, Ireland, and he seems to be making a real run. I mean, um, uh, you know, I think in my mind, they're going to keep six receivers..

"Your input and contributions to the show. We have some 70. Well, let me confirm here where it's some 72,000 or so on Twitter. We'd love to have you at Lance McAllister, the Twitter feed presented by Barley corns, three locations in northern Kentucky. Great not to be out of the patio to enjoy a cold one, and maybe some Doc style wings from our friends at Berlin corns. You can follow and contribute during the show outside the shore. Just follow along with what's coming up on the show. Like in about 10 Minutes, we'll talk with Jeff Hobson of Bengals dot com. This Cincinnati Reds just completed a 20 game stretch 20 games in 20 days. No days off. They started that stretch without Nick Castano's They ended that stretch without Jesse Winker. They completed that run. With the record of 13. And seven They set one up. The second wild card. 36 games to go and always like I like to when I can't offer context and perspective to give you a frame of reference to what we're talking about. And the Reds have 69 wins with 36 to go. 69 57. You remember the pain and misery at times of the rebuild? It was long. And it was slow. And it was difficult. Two. Was difficult to follow. Night in and night out. Some of the pictures that were being run out. Some of the everyday eight in the lineup. It was incredibly difficult to see a big picture. When you were stuck in the moment of the the muck and mire of a rebuild. In 2015. The Reds won 64 games. In 2016. They won 68 games. In 2017. 1 68 games. In 2018. They won 67 games. We are sitting here on August 23rd. And the Reds have 1 69 games. With 36 remaining. On August the third 23rd the Reds are sitting here with more wins than they had in the entire 2015 16 17. And 18 seasons. How much fun is this? I was reading a piece over the weekend Bleacher report and the it was their August edition of a word to describe your major league team right now, and they had, you know for the Yankees reinvigorated because the Yankees are now back in the race. It looks like they were left for dead. The Tampa Bay Rays. The word to describe was unconventional, because the Rays do things that a lot of teams never even thought about doing or trying. The White Sox cruising because they're running away with their division. I saw the A's described as unheralded because the A's are like Who's that? How are they doing? Who are some of those guys of the New York Mets? The were disappointing. In the N l. Centrally head for the Brewers destined For the Cardinals they had lurking. That's a good word. The Cardinals are lurking. You think they're gone? And then you kind of look around like they're still here. Pirates abysmal cubs, their word choice for the Cubs was reset. The word choice for the Reds was Precarious. And bleacher report wrote. The Reds lead the National League and ranked third in the majors in O. P. S. And the starting pitching has also been rock solid. If they had an even halfway decent bullpen, they'd be a serious threat for an October run, Late inning leads are precarious, to say the least with this Reds team. Um, I would have a different word. We've used to describe this team a lot. Resilient. They've been fun, and they've been frustrating on on each side each end of the spectrum, But this team has been resilient. They have stare down adversity. I went back and looked at it this morning. They lost and this is hard to comprehend. Now as hot as he's been They played without Joey Votto for 28 games. What? Not a week. Not two weeks. They play without Joey Votto for 28 games. Yes, He was not on his terror at the time. I get that, but you know what the record was. 14 and 14. They survived. They found a way they were resilient last year, starting first baseman Who the hell is going to play first? Now he's out how long then they lost. Nick Castano's I'll Never forget the night he takes the pitch off the hand on, think it don't It's broken, he's done. They were without Nick Castellanos for 17 games again, Not a couple of days, not a week, 17 days. I didn't count the time he was on the rise. We didn't play in the one game he pinch hit. I kind of from the time he got to hurt to the time we return was 17 kids. You know what the record was without him Without Nick, cause the Ottos 19 8. You know, winning record, They managed to not just hang around and survive. They found a way to have a winning record without Nick Castano's right now there without Jesse Winker. Jesse Winker is going to get MVP votes. They've been without him for seven games. They're probably going to be without him for I don't know. 14 more. 21 more. I have no idea. I just know in the first seven without Jesse Winker. They're five and two. Think of that for a second. Lesser teams would have folded up the tents and said we're out of here. 14 and 14 without motto for 28 19 8 without Castano's for 17, 5 and two without Winker for the first seven of this running, Let's not We don't have time to get into all the pitching injuries or moose or others. It goes back to the resiliency of this baseball team in the ability for guys to pick up the slack, and it's what I love about this team. Night tonight. When I do my my notes my sheet. I write things down. I highlight of my circle. I put an asterisk underlying things. You know, I've said this before, but it is so true about this team, and it's more so about this team than any rates team I can remember in a long time, the number of different contributors to this team the number of different guys who have a moment. Or moments it might be in at bat. It might be a catch. It might be one at bat. It might be one catch. It might be a game. It might be a week long run. It might be a two week run. But think of the number of guys who have stepped up and done something to help This team show Go isn't hitting makes the running, sliding all out. Catch Over the weekend. Tyler Nay Quinn. Tyler is going to a large extent We're going to talk about him towards the back end of the hour With my my second chances. My brand center second chances. Tyler, adequate to a large extent, is a great symbol of.

"Yeah exactly like defense. Title depth was terrible last year. It was frankly unfair for some these linebackers just learning the ropes. Having to you know be diffuse of old gap is supposed to be when the guys in front of them are getting bulldozed off line. It was just a recipe for disaster. And hopefully there's more stability there with reader staying healthy Jobe mike daniels. Patrolling three technique. If a bunch of bodies there tau sheldon Snappy has to stay behind him. You'll yeah so. I guess really it comes down to i guess. Five or six total players at when the final fifty-three comes out like it for a team. That isn't going to play three linebackers on the field very much outside the two games against the ravens win. That's really their base defense. It's hard to see them keeping six. And also it's hard to see a six linebacker out of this group kind of being worth spot compared to maybe like nine through tenth offense lineman a tenth or eleventh events attack a six or seven wide receiver You know county jones. Joe botchy darius hodge guys would gladly fill out the practice squad. And you be confident confident with that. But i think after bailey in evans. Two guys for special teams. It's hard to see them kind of keeping a six this group i agree with you. The only thing is how who. Who's darrin simmons gonna pound the table for for his for his units right. I mean we talked last week when we were talking about tight ends in. What can moss do potentially on special teams. Can he do some of the things. That's ethan carter brought. We talked about. What will we will talk about the wide receiver group in you. Know how does that back. End work out especially with punt return kick return all that kind of stuff still up for discussion so this is one of those position groups as well. That how hard is darren. Simmons gonna pound the table for a guy like jordan evans. Jordan's is one of the few. Marvin lewis holdovers on this team. And they specifically resigned him. They brought him back And i thought for sure that you know free agent jordan evans. I thought he's marvin lewis guy he'd be gone and i think that not only they wanted a little bit of experience in this group but i think just my own theory on it is i think during simmons's entrust that guy on some special teams work so I think like you said. Based on their limited usage of this position group it would be hard to justify six guy but again. What is darren simmons want and i think he's got a lot of poll in that in that Coaching staff there in terms of rostro. Construction jeff hobson road on bengals dot com. Recently the jordan evans has the most games played as a bengal on this entire defense. Now with sixty which kinda mind boggling a little bit but yeah that's that's simmons's guy like he's lost clinton Federal him in twenty nineteen. He lost Season carter this past free agency. Evans is probably going to be new. Captain on special teams. Who the most experienced with those units and when he's on the field he made some plays last year so perfect guy to have. Is your third fourth linebacker. Special teams ace and marcus bailey. I think like he was definitely talented enough to be drafted somewhere in the first three or four rounds draft ago but it was injuries that shot him all the way down to the seventh but several picks they sometimes do things in bengals uniforms. I think like drain pride. We haven't really talked about him that much. Like he's kind of on the hot seat a little bit entering year three has established himself has a decent starter yet. Like bailing davis. Either they're going to be hungry for his job. And i think bailey's you know physical makeup and his experience as drew linebacker. I think gives him a decent chance to really do something. If pratt starts to slip. Couldn't agree with you. More on that. I like i said i think it's a big year for germain practice. Show some growth here. But i think if we were to make a prediction as we sit here now based on the names here I think we've got wilson pratt evans. Gather bailey ihnen. What you've got maybe badchi as as the guy that that could come in sneak onto the roster remember. The team brought in austin colegio last year in the end they had so much linebacker bodies slash talent that they shipped him in needed. Some defensive line help because of the gino atkins stuff so They got christian. Covington out of that deal so You know. I don't know if there's kind of a similar situation there and or if they maybe that's their quote unquote veteran addition as weird may seem to the group instead of josh binds. But i i would assume he would be the guy who would be kind of on that bubble right. Yeah and again they can. They can keep on the practice squad if he cleared waivers. I know that the eagles were trying to get him back. Or maybe the same thing. I don't know there. There is still interest out there if he where to hit the waiver wire again but also you saw von bill rolls not going to change that much as long the box and i think again the biggest bit the big emphasis this year was to have actual depth at both defensive and offensive line and when they construct this fifty three man roster. It's hard to see them. Go less than nine in each group. And when you have that damning bodies those those physician groups you have to go somewhere and i think if they go. Light anywhere on this roster. It's probably linebacker. I agree i agree. Well anything else for this position preview before we bounce on add here that you wanna touch on john no bad numbers on this group you know like the the new rule for linebackers for any difference player going the single digits. I'm not sure if anyone outside of maybe davis gave could rock single digit. I know he was like twenty four in college. I wanna say at app looking wilson. A strong fifty five remain pratt. Fifty seven Davis gave her fifty nine marks. Bailey's fifty one some strong solid numbers for linebackers. They're old school. Linebacker jersey numbers right there for sure..

"Up with more names as we get. Not more names for the ring of honor More on our orange ribbon panel got to include Ken Brew. Former voice of the franchise, who has certainly covered the team for decades during the break also came up with Dennis Jansen DJ has to be on the list. So our panel is at this moment. They don't know about this. We'll let him know Jeff Hobson. Chick Ludwig stud, Dan Horde. John Popovich. Mike Brown. Segue, George Vogel and Dennis Jansen and just added Ken Brew as well. So there you go. That's that's a heck of a panel. Now we're talking By the way, I thought about this on the way in to ask on the air. Um, yesterday during my journey, by the way, three hours and two minutes to get here only an hour and 15 to get home last night. And my drive was only about 30 minutes, right on time, But today coming in, But as I was stuck in the three hour in two minute nightmare drive in yesterday, I thought of something My mom used to always say, because it was snowing so hard. My mom used to say it is snowing to beat the band. Austin. Have you ever heard the term? It's snowing to beat the band. I think I have. Well, she said that all the time and I don't know what that means. I was looking up idioms today online. See, I do a lot of research for the show. And it any, um, is AH, Group of words used as a common expression whose Meaning is not deduce herbal from that of the literal words, um, bite the bullet. No. You can bite the bullet. Or you could bite off more than you could chew. Or, you know, don't judge a book by its cover. Don't count your chickens before they hatch Don't get caught between a rock and a hard place. Uh uh. You get it, but my mom would always say it. I called. Hey, what you doing? It is snowing to beat the band. And I don't know if I understand it meant to. It's snowing that hard, But what did that have to do with beating the band? Because the snow isn't making noise. The band would be making noise. The snow's not making noise, so I never understood that. And if anybody is, I figure if anybody would know this audience would know what the idiom it is snowing to beat. The band means I would love to know. Because I pondered that driving home last night, and I smiled thinking of my mom saying that isn owing to me too, because I would have told her what? I talked to her. I've been able to talk to her yesterday and she said, Oh whoa! How's it going? I said Mom, it is snowing to beat the band. This snow's not racing the band. The Snow is not making noise that would exceed the noise of the band. I don't get the whole idiom on D yet. I know it exists. I just don't know what it means. Let's go to the phones. You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. And then you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make a drink. If if you're feeling under the weather than you're you're not fit as a fiddle. So like I can give you all of them. I just don't know what snowing to beat the bay and ultimately ultimately needs let's go to the phone and said, You know who will know? I bet I bet By the time I hit a break, I bet my guy Steven Sharp will have tweeted me with a definition of what snowing to beat. The band means I also think we should add Bengal Jim to our panel, Austin recommended Bengal Jim, I think we're gonna have to consider Bangle gym in our panel. I think that would Yeah. Yeah, I think that is they must add to the panel. How about Let's go here and Mike, who's your initial four for the Bangles? Ring of Honor? Hey, how you doing? It's Listen. I'm gonna give you a couple coaches because not enough. Not enough is given for that right? Because I personally have. We talked about this many times I was at the Freezer bowl game. And in my opinion, what force Greg did to tell those guys to kick show up on the field with the gasoline instead of shirts leaves the games was one before it ever could be kicked off his. I remember watching the The Chargers. They were looking across the field going. These guys, you're absolutely out of their ever loving mind. And how are we going to do this? Right? So number one, Forrest Gregg. Uh, to me should be under consideration. Because without that, I don't think they would have gone to the Super Bowl. Necessarily. All right. They beat up pretty good San Diego team. Yes. And who else? Who are your did you give me for or not? Did I lose him? I think I lost him. He was Oh, he was giving me coaches think was gonna get me. Well, you don't like clearly if your inaugural o'clock class was four coaches, you could go Forrest Gregg. Paul Brown, Sam wife, and you could go David Shula. Good of phones. Western Hills, Greg, Welcome to sports talk. Lamplight on. Okay, Give me give me your four. Please. Uh, the same top three that you have all the, um Yeah. Then the day see fourth one Who's that? Fourth one. Bob Johnson. Bob Johnson? Yes. All right. He's he's gained some support here. He's got a strong case, and I'm jotting them down. Here You are on the record. Thank you for calling. I think I lost him. I got a couple of bad cells. Let's do this. How about dogs? Dante? Hello, Dante. Laughter. I got two guys got stored under a little bit, but I'm still getting my hands. I got my fourth one yourself. Believe it up to you. Oh, me. Oh, that's a good one. But I believe you. I'll always like to death. All right Number one. Gotta be Paul Brown, the man who brought full fog interesting. Man, old sparkling rabbit pitch Bob Johnson, Likely who Why would have been arguably the Bangles First Hall of Famer that he played a forcing another read. All right. My last one. There is no voices of Bangles fail, Sam. Oh, hey. Hey, I hadn't considered that angle. I forgo Phil. Sit down because the red of the Ravens have won wade Hoyt. Yeah. Marty Brennaman. So I say Wait. How about the biggest first, huh? All those years. The first voice of the Big hospital said All right, I'm putting him on the list. I have registered to vote. Dante, You're a good man. Thanks for calling. Thank you. All right. Have a great night. You know, you know who has not received a vote at this point. Is Sean Brewer, the chain smoking tight end He did not get a vote. Sean Brewer was drafted. What 95 96 never forget the scouting report that that that that guy, you know, pat strength and power and pass skated but also a chain smoker. Did Sean Brewer ever catch? Hold on it. He ever have a catch? For the But did he ever have an NFL catch in his car? I don't think he even made the team. Did he make that He was a 2001? No, hey, played for a number of years. I played for the Bengals. 12 2003. I don't remember if he had a catch or not honestly. Although if you Google him here you go. Headline. Remember Bangles chain smoking tight end Sean Brewer. He's 43 years old. Now, let's see. Did he have a catch for the Bengals? He did. He did not have a catch for the Bangles. Very good. All right, Let's do this. Come back. I've got in on this date, and they will grab some more calls and round out our initial vote and see who are four R and then I can't wait to compare when the Bengals reveal that's actually gonna happen. "But delete. I didn't mean to do that. Either way it has led to discussions about Wait a minute. The Bengals were gonna introduce new uniforms soon. Are they going to go ahead? Hey, You know, the Bangles Saturday night were very vocal in tweeting at the NFL, Like kind of appalled You left 10 Riley out of your remembrance of players, legends that we lost over the past year. Are the Bangles really ready? And at the moment where they're going to pull the trigger on a ring of honor? And perhaps from a timing standpoint, timing is everything. This would be the 40th anniversary of their first Super Bowl appearance in 1981. So I thought for tonight. I'll play along. Let's assume a ring of honor is coming. I have two questions for you. You ready? One. Which for individuals make up the inaugural class. Why four? Well, that's my number. And I'm leading this discussion. So for the only reason I say for is two on each side of the stadium one on each side of the If you're looking, you're standing at midfield. You look one way you see one off to the left one off to the right. You turn around you look one up to the left one up to the right total of four in the inaugural class. So one which for individuals? Would make up the inaugural class of the Bengals Hall of Fame and to Who should decide Who those individuals are. So let's get to work on that. That'll be part of our discussion Early. I was kicking this around with Austin Austin Elmore running the show on the other side tonight, and I would say simply from a who decides standpoint, I jotted down the following names. It would clearly be an online component to this. You're going to drive traffic to Bengals calm. You're not gonna miss on that opportunity s so there's gonna be a chance to vote. We can debate how much weight is carried by the fan vote, But my panel That will meet and discuss would include Dan Horde. It would include Jeff Hobson. It would include Mike Brown. It would include Chick Ludwig. It would include John Popovich. And that's five. I probably then add the current Bangles beat writers I go Po dinner, Junior and Jay Morrison from the athletic. I go, Tyler Dragon of the Enquirer. I go Ben baby of ESPN dot com. I go Richard Skinner of local 12 My missing Anybody on the beat. I feel bad if I'm missing somebody just off the top of my head, but I include Oh, don't tell James Yes, James or pain as I dot com s. Oh, that's five. 6789 10. That's 11. All right, so that's it, But that's those air, like the minor details work on of greater significance. Who are you putting in your inaugural class of four? I have a sheet of paper. It's blank. And I'm going to keep a running total for as long as we do this, So, uh, plot out your four and give me a call It 5137491 7800 the big one and pounds 700 on 18 tea. I'll see what the tote board looks like. At the end of the night of Who? Our inaugural class. I can't say inaugural, who are first class of four Will be for the Ring of honor, because I find it hard to believe I could believe that. But somebody in the Bengal social media accidentally tweeted it. I guess boy, are they in trouble? But I could really understand the value of tweeting it, deleting it and creating the firestorm of conversation. And then the weight and the weight and the weight and then you drop in on everybody and say we're doing it. Goes Rick of either, were you so let's work on our four The first thought that came to mind is what I ask Austin. What do you do with Paul Brown? Because I've heard that I've heard the conversation over the last 24 hours. Yea nay nay, being the stadium's named after him. Don't put him in the clad the ring of honor, or don't put him in the inaugural class of four. I would lean against that. His name may be on the stadium. How do you do it? Let's be honest. How do you do A ring of honor honoring the history of your franchise and the greats and not name Paul Brown. To your ring of honor..

Kelsey Chevrolet, Escape excessive mileage wearing terra penalties and remaining payments and get into a new Chevrolet for his little is zero down Kelsey Chevrolet Route 15 to 75 at the Lawrence Burg Exit. Dave Lapham on the Bengals Booth podcast this week with Dan Horde. Had Jeff Hobson on and they talked about this very subject. The off season and the plan for the Bangles from free agency to the draft, You'll hear more from laughing a second. In fact, while I'm thinking about it, let me give you lapse thoughts when day and horrid ask him and the Bengals booth podcast. What he would do at number five in the draft right now. Well, you know, I do think if school is there at number five He just looks to be even though you know he opted out this year, but 65 £330 Five flat 40 athletic guy can move a real good balance. I just Just think a guy like that is is potentially who one of those generational type players. He has that possibility. I would probably go with the offensive line on bond, particularly if he were there. If he were not there, I'd might. You know, I might, I might think otherwise. Dave Lapham Bangles Booth Podcast Panay School. I'm I'm not against Panay school. I'm not completely committed to Panay Sewell. I am cautious of today, Sul. Um, I think the hype and the tag of the next Anthony Moon Rose is not even bordering. It's over the line of ridiculous and unfair. Um Panay. Sewell played half his freshman year with an ankle in because of an ankle injury. He sat out this past season. He's played a total of 21 College football games, and the last time he played a football game was in 2019. So let's not get out over our skis. And yet I understand. He's a very talented offensive lineman. And it is a book in to Jonah Williams. Whichever end you want the other on and maybe adding Joe Tooty? This would be me rubbing my hands together and saying Now we're in business. At the same time. I'd like to see him get work done in Frieden see from an offensive line standpoint, and I would much rather get proven commodities. Then rely on Scouting, drafting and developing now it's easier to do that with Frank Polich. I'll give you that. Yet I have visions of Jake Fisher and said, Miracle Boy he and others dancing in my head when I close my eyes and then I break into a cold sweat. More inclined to give. Give me somebody who has been there and done that as an offensive lineman in the NFL. Not somebody you're projecting to be able to do it in the NFL. And then along those lines, you know, I I'd entertained five if I could get if I get business done and offensive line with free agency. Then you talk it five, adding, Ah Jamaar chase, and I'm a Devante Smith guy yet the difference in size is a little bit, you know, tilting me more towards Jamaar Chase. Who's about £20 heavier. I really like the Vontae Smith. But he it's a thin. I know he's a thin frame. And, yeah, I'm not questioning his toughness. I'm I'm a little bit concerned about how that holds up. It's not like he has an unwillingness to go home for the middle of you watched him in an Alabama but Jamaar Chase and I don't say this because he was Joe Burrows guy that helps but tomorrow chases 61 £204. And dynamic You get your offensive line, taking care of it. Free agency with proven guys. And you add Jamaar chase to Tyler Boyd and Tea. Higgins. Who? Yeah. Now we're talking. Dave Lapine did address the idea of if Panay Sul is not there at five. Then what do you consider doing? I might even decide to trade it back. Depending on how far back I had to go. And if I still had an offensive lineman or or somebody one of these edge rush guys that You know that that could could make a factor if I could, if I could trade back and get quickly pay Rush guy from Michigan if I could trade back and get him And pick up an extra choice and so doing Might I might go back around. If he were still you know, if the promise of you go back How is there an offensive line? You'd still be happy with If there's not. Is there a naked guy you'd still be happy with or a corner or you know what your needs are? If I weren't had to stay at five. And school was there. Probably would go with that was school Dave Lapham. On the highly recommended listen of the Bengals Booth podcast. How about Florida? We go, Dave. Welcome to sports talk. Hey, Lance. Thanks for taking my call. Sure. What's on your mind? Well, I agree with you. I think they got to go and fix this offense of line through free agency I want no, I don't want to deal with rookie offensive linemen coming in. Yes, sir. With a guy coming back from reconstructive knee way need proof? We need proven commodity there. Secondly, I want Remark chase at five. I'm not trading back a top five pick. I'm not doing that. You don't You know if we were picking 10th, 11th or 12th, then I may think about that. But you a top I pick. Is an instant impact player you're gonna get and I'm not trading that dick back, So I'm going after Jamaar Chase and then If you want to try to pick up another pick..

"See him, You know, use the draft last year, they used the draft Those first two picks. Take care of the offense, and they did a hell of a job with forward Higgins. No. Now, maybe times you know, came to trade back. Maybe look at the defensive side of the ball, You know, I think that might you know we might be in that area right now. Because I do think you know there are elements here. You can protect, borrow and you can get that on offense. I mean, Uh, you get some young tackles. That have proven they can play. If you got a running back who you paid him awful lot of money, and it was clearly one of the five best you could So I think you've got people on offense. I I'm kind of at the other end of your chick. Okay? I'd like that kind of trade back. I'd like to get the best corner. I'd like to get the best eggs. Russia, huh? I'd like to hammer the defense. Little bit. Yeah. And You know, Like I told James Repeat in the last half hour, you know, Marvin Lewis used to say it all the time. The best defense is standing on the sidelines, sipping Gatorade. So if you can, the best of the best defense, maybe this offense, man and matriculated ball down the field to keep the defense off the field and Right, You know? So that s what so retreating about this about this upcoming free agency and draft see what they do to improve because I think the Bangles can concern this thing around in a hurry. And you're never far away with the draft and free agency. No, I think why did you get the azaleas? You get the quarterback? You know when the Kenny Anderson said that the other day to me when I did a podcast with them, but Way know who our quarterback is. You know, this is you're watching with Detroit and Los Angeles is going through. That costs a lot, and we've already got it. And I thought that It's interesting what you say about my because I also a number of I've been saying There's no way to, uh there's no way to defend that long passed down the field. That's the only thing that keeps me up at night as a defensive coordinator is that one ball down the field? Well, Could you imagine? Keep chickens and Jamaar chaser? The Vontae Smith or whoever was one of these? Don't wanna Lord, one of these guys on top of the draft, so Again, That's intriguing. Yeah, it really is. And you know to look at the numbers on on burrow his up the number of pressures on his drop accent and the number of sacks off those pressures. It's just kind of staggering and man keeping him upright is just so vital. No. Zach Taylor is a smart guy. And, you know, we talked about this all throughout ever since Joe got hurt the top offseason priority, No question. Is making sure you protect him. There's no question that that you have to protect sorrow. That's the number one thing and begged him, right. Yeah, but they're more ways to protecting him. Sandwich left tackles. But I like your I like your mailbag saying just how important the running game is for this team and Joe Mixon. So, Mr. They paid job. It's in a lot of money. Good reason because filmmaking is good. And I think that You know, he's just coming into his own, I think and I think the fact I think it's very important to note Exact hired Frank Polich. As his offensive line coach. Not only did he hired the developments of line coach he hired him as quote clash. One game coordinator. No. Clearly, I think, uh, After taking a long, hard look at the one game I got said you just might guy. He's gone back to a guy who was here before he got here. And to me that's goes that shows an open mindedness. Has chosen You know, very good inflect and, uh, you know, I think he knows that. You know if you go back and look at the numbers on Joel Make Joe Mixon Had a very good, uh, run with public in 2018. And you know he was Frank get rehired. Jill mentioned was if we wed Twitter. Certainly one of his biggest fans I went. He went crazy he had with the light. Yes. So I had to. I think that's a good sign for the run game. I think you know the run game is good, and I think you know exactly realizes that he's gonna detect he's gonna protect, borrow and You know? People forget, you know, And you know people love the pile on the Bangles about how bad of a year it was. But look at the people they were missing. I think Lack of job, Nixon. Is something that just gets totally lost when you go back. Sure. You looking my God, they lost to time or 1000, Dad, Russia. How do you How do you know That's a hard thing girl in place in mid season? No doubt. No doubt. Now. It seems like only yesterday. I remember Rudi Johnson. Just, you know, walking down a runway in one of the wings, they're of a Paul Brown stadium. With the new uniforms. This is I forget what year that was, but 2004 okay? Yeah. "Butchie, how we doing on this snowy chili? Ugly Sunday. It's good now to hear that boy that makes me I almost feel like I'm in the pit of Paul Brown Stadium to hear that ready to run through a wall with snot bubbles, no doubt about it and come right. Come on. Now come right, Let's go. Let's go. Let's go or regular regular gym Andr Jimmy, a Luther Cave that the way it was a blue 38 0. You noticed listening right now mark her nude son, Matt, and he asked me how I'm doing And I said, Can I use one of Jeff Hobson's favorite lines? I'm struggling. Oh, no, no, no back to you After you had steel on a one of the great bear market do is obviously great, Great family. Great thing. Everybody's doing Well, they're absolutely absolutely and pushy. You know, Mike Brown likes to say anencephaly roster is like a kaleidoscope tweak it and everything changes. You know, there's gonna be a lot of tweaks here. You've got to get a couple of guys re signed. And then, uh, you know, get some work done in free agency. And then that'll Dick dictate what happens in the draft and Onward to the playoffs in 2021. Well, what's you know a big stack the 2019 draft with the 2020 drafts. I think that's pretty good. I mean, I think that's a good place to start. I think they've I think even if you go back chicken looking, but you know the last decade. The Bangles have their draft picks. They still have more more draft picks in the league than about just about anybody. Maybe maybe maybe the window in a Baltimore have maybe one or two more than they do. But, uh It could have been able to figure out who the draft so I think that You know, Um it's gonna be really interesting to see what they can add with these pics because, uh, as you know, they're coming off a draft class. We'll put our focus. Dark times said they were the best draft class in the league and Only the most productive they've had in the last essentially No doubt and man. How about the shock waves around the National Football League here with the blockbuster trade between the L. A Rams and the Detroit Lions Jared Golf. Along with a third round pick and two first rounders. Head to Detroit. Wow and L. A Rams in exchange. Get Matthew Stafford shaken up this week, like Wow. Unbelievable. Did the lions where a 95 states master what kind of face smack the lions used Lot highway robbery. Oh, man. It was a king's ransom that the L. A Rams gave up and wow, Matthew Stafford 32 years old. Can he deliver a Super Bowl championship to the Rams? Oh, It kind of makes you feel good. They get your franchise quarterback in place. Yeah, thanks. Well, said, Dad, you Joe Burrow and I understand He's coming back from a from a very bad, you know, you know from a bad knee injury, but he'll be back and that that that that's the thing to look at as you look at the 2021 season. Bangle said. Their guy in place and I've often said this chick, you know, the minute before? Uh, you know, um, uh, the guy from Washington so on it shows, uh, knee The minute before that the Bangles were the hot team. Hey, they didn't write. They got this guy. Uh, their offense is a clue. You know, And then all the sudden, Bo got hurt knob and all of a sudden they were. They were nothing. Well, bar was coming back, but I was coming back and he's coming back with You know he's coming back with some people around them. So I I'm always kind of intrigued. All these kind of intrigued by the bite of so called narrative well and dug into the Bangles spent so much money on defense and in the draft, you know this past year, I think it's time to end of the offense the line and to give Joe Burrow more weapons. Well, you know, that may happen on top of the draft, but you know how I feel about that, you know? I think they've got elements here. Protect, borrow, and I would really love to.

"Excited to welcome in our next guest. I saw my on this date in sports notes that he was drafted 50 years ago today, and I said, Oh, man, I got to get him on. We gotta talk about this on the anniversary. Because I read Jeff Hobson's on this date and Bangles History book and I noted so many things that happened in and around the drafting of our next guest. I said, I need some story time with the Bengals. Legend Can Anderson So let's go straight to the source. How are you? I am doing great last. Thanks for calling me. Good hearing your voice. Let me ask you 50 years ago today the draft wasn't on TV. So what were you doing on draft day 50 years ago? Well, you know, I didn't know that would get drafted or not, And you know, of course, I'm a college kid at Augustana and have no money And so you know, I go up to our local college fart. I knew the owner there and I say I'm gonna get drafted and You know? Can you give me a quarter barrel bill up quarter barrel of beer. I'll pay you back later, he said. Sure, and we took it back by a park with a bunch of my buddies and we sat there drinking beer and tell about four o'clock in the afternoon. I got the call from Bill Walsh said. I was going to be a Cincinnati bangle. You. You went in there, and that was a heck of a quarterback class that year. Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, Dan Pastorini, Go 123. You lasted to the third round it 67. What? What were your expectations? So I guess, as you alluded to, you weren't even sure you would get drafted going into that thing. What? No, it's just you know, there was no ESPN in those days. You can't watch television to find out what's going on. And you sit by there, and I got a call from rent a friend in Chicago. They said. You want number one to San Francisco and I didn't tell. No, no, that can't happen. Further Exploration, I think was a Tim Anderson from Ohio State of defensive back that never want number one to San Francisco. So just Kept waiting for the phone call. So you go to the Bangles in in 71 in this draft and the steps for those who don't know Great Cook, who had been the NFL rookie there in 69? There was still uncertainty about his shoulder in and a belief that he nobody really knew if he could even come back, right? Correct. And then had Greg been healthy. I never would have been a Cincinnati bangle. But there was that sound and the hope. And you know he had had rotator cuff surgery. I believe on the shoulder. You know, now it's It's a minor procedure. But in those days, it was major kind of like a You know if you had a knee operation in your career and the same thing with the shoulder operation in the time leading up to the draft your your senior year where you aware the Bengals were following you and scouting you any conversations with him or what? What awareness did you have of their interest in you? Well, you know, number one, Mike Brown came to Rock Island for one of our home games to watch me play. Um and then number two, you know, and those days The draft was in January, obviously, and and so the coaches Went out on Saturday and scout it and so I was playing up and walking shot with confidence scale are against Carol College, and Bill Walsh was at that game. And, you know, after the game, he kind of plane in food. Oh, uh, I believe was Cleveland with the Bangles were playing the next day, but do that They were interested in me, but You know, like, I think everybody in the draft you think you'd get drafted by Dallas because they sent you Maurin Formacion than anybody. Bengals legendary quarterback Ken Anderson checking in tonight. It was 50 years ago today, January 28 1971. He was selected by the Bengals in the third round, and the rest, they say is its history. I did not know. Take me through. I guess you drove to town the next day but had to battle quite a snowstorm. In fact, Jeff Hobson Story said. Of the 17 rounds of the direct You were the only Bangles draft pick that made it in the next day because of the weather. Is that true? Well, I was there the next day, But why would did not drive? I was flying from Rock Island through Chicago, Cincinnati. And you know, I really wanted my dad to come with me. And so my first flight was from Rock Island could Midway airport and then I had a friend picking me up to take me to O'Hare and I told my path Meet me at O'Hare. Well, they kind of checked. They saw my flight was coming in at midway, So they drove to midway, So we passed on the interstate, and he never made it to the fight going down. And Mark Collins. The trainer picked me up and took me down to Riverfront Stadium. I also read in the piece from Jeff Hops in that you brought along or they're with you. What were two frat buddies? A Ray Puccini and a Ken Young. Is that true? Does that ring a bell? Yes, it was Roy Puccini. All right. Both of those guys were out of college when I got the Augustana But, you know, Roy had an insurance agency and rock island and you know, and those stays way could not get dinner in the dorms on Sunday night, so he would have a soldier. I like tracking things anniversary wise of things that happened on this date a little bit later on. We'll do our official on this date with the sounder to make it official. But there is one moment that happened on this date, I think is at least worthy of conversation for maybe a segment or two or certainly Ah, Phone caller to It was this date 2000 and three But the Bengals hired Marvin Lewis. Marvin left. Two years ago. With time comes perspective. And and I hear this conversation a lot from people. The way you viewed Marvin then compared to the way you view, Marvin. Now, I would be curious if And if so, how your perspective on Marvin has changed. In the two years since he's been gone, I went back and looked at the peace that marked her nude route the day that Marvin was hired this state 18 years ago. And he wrote Marvin Lewis introduced Tuesday night at a resort hotel. Here it was that the Senior Bowl as the ninth Bengals head coach promised to bring a blue collar work ethic and discipline to a struggling team and organization. He wrote later in that piece, linebacker Takeo Spikes one of the Bengals top stars, will be a free agent when his contract expires in March. He said he respects Louis, but it's skeptical that one person alone can change the atmosphere surrounding the team. Spike said. It's like having a cold. You treat the symptoms not trying to cure it. Other candidates interviewed for the job or Steelers offensive coordinator Mike Malarkey, Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin and Bangles assistant coaches Mark Duffner and Jim Anderson. This state 18 years ago. Went back and looked at Geoff Hobson's book on this date in Bangles history, and there I was struck by a couple of notes about this hiring on this date, the first outsider ever hired. To be the head coach of the Bengals. He was the ninth head coach hired at the time. Uh, Mike Brown saying that day quote. This is a sea change for us. He's new. He's fresh. He's got that kind of presence. We're looking for where this forward. This team is now he is the face of our franchise for the future. Artrell Hawkins Bengal at the time, Corner, said quote. This was a big move. Here We are the laughing stock of the league and we get a coach who is what a Super Bowl and been a coach on successful teams. Jeff writes Jeff Hobson. It's believed the decision came down to the wire today. Just after the afternoon practice after Steelers offensive coordinator Mike Malarkey had delivered a strong interview last night. Former Jacksonville head coach Tom Coughlin reportedly took his name out of the running last week when his plans included too many massive changes if he were to be hired. But Mike Brown saying quote it came down to all three guys. Marvin was the right guy for where we are. Quote from Jon Kitna the day Marvin was hired. He was one of the three guys we were talking to. He was the best show of the three guys that were talking to he was the best choice. Guys were worried that coach Coughlin might come in with too much of an iron fist. But everyone is aware of Coach Lewis and what he's done with his defense since 1997 Guys in our locker room are going to respect him right away. 18 years ago today. Marvin Lewis was hired. Remember the news conference? Charly Luken gave him the key to the city. Marvel was being healed by some is the black Jesus at that point I looked it up today. The Bangles winning percentage in the history. The franchise 53 years of football. The Bengals winning percentage. Is 4 48. Marvin's winning percentage when he was here in the regular season was 5 18. How much is your opinion of Marvin Lewis changed. In two years time since he left. That's question one Question, too. I remember. I remember talking about this. Two years ago. Fact I did a twitter question I pull. I found the pole. We discussed Marvin's place in franchise history. There are now nine coaches in the history of this French or 10. Coaches include exact 10 in the history of this franchise. Where would you put Marvin Lewis in that list?.

"Day. Jeff Hobson, Marissa Contra Pelly. The staff down there, the content crew. They all do a great job. And so you get all the up to date information. Follow the Bangles on social media. Will not be your father's football team come next year. And again I said it early and I say it again. When you're 4 11 in one There are going to be changes period. You just have to change to get better if you're 40 11 coming off a two and 14 year. And so Reports that coaches are gone. Reports that players played their last game. I mean, If your specific and you say Well, this guy, that guy It's not necessarily being clairvoyant. I think if you look at who's going to be gone You look at the production of the team and in a lot of areas they did not play well are up to their capabilities. Or if you ask a coach who may be let go. The first thing they would probably tell you is that our position did not do the job that we expected them to do. The question becomes in. Who are you going to bring in? Because guess what the learning curve starts all over again. If you bring in a different defensive coordinator, a different office of line coach or different secondary coach or, you know, defensive line coach a wide receiver coach to running back, coach. Whatever you do, you're bringing this Somebody who was going to tell you. I want you to run the ball this way. Or I want you to block this way on the offensive line, or I want you to play the age gap with this stand. So I want you to move this way. Um, in man coverage, And so there is that learning cover curved. It starts all over again. Every time you bring a new coaches, you know, I think about Baker, Mayfield and people talked about this young man. He's a bus. And he's dissing that Baker Mayfield had three head coaches and three coordinators in three years. I think it might have been four. I don't know, but my point simply is this and everyone has different terminology. And everyone wants you to look at it this way, and everybody wants you to make the reads this way. And so as you change coaches You have to remember that they're coming in with their own terminology, their own way of doing things their own expectations, and there's a learning curve, so hopefully we can get beyond a pandemic. Theo th can happen and whatever coaching changes that you make, these coaches will have an opportunity to put their stamp on their position and allow these guys Learn, understand and get a feel for what is expected of them with this new position, coach. So let's stay tuned. And see how that goes. As far as players go. Paul Dana from the athletic was on the pregame show today talking about maybe Bobby Hart. Maybe Sean Williams. Maybe a couple other players. You know A J. Maybe Gino. Again. You don't know. You're just looking at certain things if you're going to go out and sign some big name free Asia and players to help bolster up Positions where you think you have some deficiencies. You gotta spend some money. But that means you also gotta let go of the money. That's just basic economic principles. It just has to happen that way, so we'll stay tuned in the final tally. The Bangles where 4 11 and one They were one and six on the road issue, 16 and one And one in five in the division. Put that in perspective compared to the other teams in the division, Pittsburgh and Baltimore with foreign, too, in the division. Cleveland was three and three in the division. The Steelers or five and three on the road. The Ravens were six and two on the road. The Browns were five and three on the road. So when you look at that Dad is tough. The last five games of the season. The Baltimore Ravens are playing the best brand of football, a five game winning streak. They're five and old. Steel is one of four they stumbled into the playoffs. The Browns three into their last five games. The Bangles two and three. So no matter how you slice it, dice it. Look at it. The Bangles just did not have an edge in any aspect. That weather was a home three and five on the road, 16 and one in the Division one and five in the conference for Nate. Nonconference 03 and one So a lot has to be addressed. Before you get into next season. The bigger question for me, and I think one of the bigger questions most people have on their mind is when next season starts. Will job, Earl start Game one. For Game five or six or whatever that to me is the biggest question because if he doesn't start You have got to identify who your quarterback is going to be. Until he's ready. And the question becomes, Did Brandon Allen do enough with the body of work? To solidify that, or will you go out and seek someone else, either to free agency. Or in the draft, But you now know why you have to have a rock solid. Backup quarterback in the NFL. For times like this, we'll be back with more of the locker room reports riff about truffle A on the Bangles Radio Network. Which ice cold Bud Light Bud Light sensor here.
