"And rowdy in the room tonight. Folks if you were you could have been a part of the pre show discussion roof between the other two guys on this show. I don't know they were in the same room. I'd have been to blows but anyway let's bring those two individuals weighing in. I'm not gonna guess brian. Anthony davis podcast. What's up brian. Dave eats dirt any other corner waiting in. And i'm not gonna gas dave scofield. The editor steel curtain day. Hey if someone else thinks that they can understand numbers better than me. They could try try. That's why i sat there and laugh. Okay let's get this show on the road all right. The pittsburgh steelers are wanna know. We talked about that ad nauseam. This week it's now time to start to turn our attention to the las. Vegas raiders coming to pittsburgh at heinz field in week two. It's it's before we get started. I want to get urologist overall. Gist of this game. There's there's the fans that are like michael beck. Michael beck has been saying. He said it in his live. Mike podcasts on tuesday. He reiterated that to me on. Let's ride when he was on with me. Let's ride on a friday debut on our audio side. He thinks game's laugher. He thinks it's going to be a blow out double digit win for the double digit lead. Win for the steelers. How do you all think this game is gonna play. I don't want predictions right now. But i'm just thinking how you feeling about this game as we sit here on thursday night. Brian will serve with you. I feel that this is a very dangerous game. And the reason i'm saying. That is because the raiders could come in with a very bad team. We've seen it in two thousand nine with prescribed cousy. We saw in two thousand eighteen when everything broke down and everything went wrong. Josh dobbs was in there the broken x ray machines. Ray machine gained chris. Boswell falling down where we lost that game sitting next to how you know what not invited anymore after tonight. We're allowed to fight a lot of talent. when you're being poopie head. I mean yeah but you know it's dangerous now. I remember week to in two thousand to one brian. Anthony davis did not know that he was sitting among greatness when he was there. Because one tony jeff was in the house too and the steelers were supposed to roll in that game. And the raiders. Silly things happened in that game too. It always seems like silly things happen. Then lynn swann. Blew me off in the concourse and i swore i would never vote for him again and i didn't so i cursed him in the few thousand four election but with that being said this is a team that just played the baltimore ravens and we were rooting hard for this team the other night and they had no business winning that game two or three times they had they screwed up and they kept on getting second chances in that game i stayed up for the entire thing and when you come away with a victory like that one of two things happen you wanna to get cocky or to. You're like wait a second we can do this. And it's not the cockiness. It's the fact that you're out there and youth you you get that mojo and you feel like you're going to be able to do so much more. They have some stars on that team. That i think are really tough. One on defense one on offense and they. You cannot overlook this team. So don't get cocky steelers after that week one win when you were not exactly stellar okay. So you found my camp Dave are you in the jeff hartmann. Be careful in this game or you in the michael back. This game is going to be pretty easy. I am definitely more in the jeff. Hartmann camp I guess the best way to say it is. I probably had more confidence in the steelers with this game before last week. If you know what. I mean because now it almost seems like the expectations are so much more and it doesn't mean that the steelers do it. Because i'm going to say it all the time. The i feel the steelers can absolutely win every game but i also see where they could absolutely lose it as well when you look at it game by game. There's a reason you can see it as you go. And and sorry. Love michael beck but if you remember last year he was convinced way. Steelers could come up anywhere short of the afc jp agip game and we all know how that played out. That's what happens when you're so certain that a team was going to do well but it doesn't matter how certain we are. What we don't want is the steelers feeling that way yet. I mean this team and really. I'd not every can say they can win every single game. Play the steelers. I believe are in that category. Every team can lose every game as well. I mean you turn the ball over and some. We'll get to that. We're going to get what i want to talk about today. Though in this podcast least for the first half is think back to last week. Who are some players. That did not play bless. Just say up to your standard and need to improve their game in some way shape or form. This is completely subjective. You can pick whoever you like and you give your own justification. That's your list. It doesn't matt. So dave always pooh-poohed gona brian. i. I'm gonna go to dave. I civil making equities important dave. Gimme a player that you feel like needs to play better this sunday at hinds you okay. Well i'm gonna. I'm not gonna give dave answer. I'm just gonna kinda change up. How i'm looking at it because you know i'm a numbers guy. I'm not saying i'm not saying that. This player didn't play well. But i would like to see based on opportunity and everything else i would like to see more numbers from najji harris. I would like to see you know more yards more. We're not going to say anymore. A greater number and percentage of offensive snaps. Because you can't you can't top. That would because he was out there every snap. But i'm just saying even overall yards like make those connections on the short passes to where he can. He can get some yards in in the passing game as well. I'm not saying that. i think that. Oh he didn't do. You didn't step up. And i'm not saying that i'm saying just like to see more of a numbers production Based on the offensive game plan. Yeah for sure. I could see that. Yeah absolutely absolutely brian What do you think he's a player that you want to see a little bit better this..

"All right pittsburgh fans welcome back to the second part of the steelers preview podcasts. I'm jeff hartmann along with brian. Anthony davis dave scofield. And we're here to talk about some news. I want to ask you about the injury. That brian part one eric. Hebron hamstring didn't practice thursday. Dave what do you think about e brown. And what does this mean for the steelers offense. This sunday well jeff. I'm going to say that. I really wish i would have had more time because it was an interesting question that i wanted to to answer and that was. How often did ibran get a day off during the week last year and it wasn't always wednesday. That's by only saving grace to this right now. Is that perhaps. This was just kind of his. They couldn't exact you can't give them a day off if they have any kind of injury you know you have to then just yet the report the injury if they are not practicing So i'm hoping maybe that's it and we'll turn around and see him full tomorrow but if not i think you're gonna see a practice squad call up for the week for the weekend. What about you brian. You concerned about this hamstring injury. Hebron they had them out of practice thursday absolutely because he's a very important piece of the puzzle. I know everybody's down on him. Because of the seven drops last year he had one of the preseason as well but he makes those plays that. Make you forget about them as well. He's a very important part of the puzzle and we are seeing something that we forecasted. And we're we saw in the first game with a number of targets and the number of different targets that ben roethlisberger sable throw to last week that becomes so integral to the success of this offense. If ben's gonna get time he's gonna kill you one way or the other in eric brown needs to be in there to be a huge weapon. You need to kill teams with eric..

"From silver black pride. I'm here with my friend. Jeff hartmann from behind the steel curtain to give you guys. A little preview of the raiders. Steelers game on sunday now as a reminder. We're still doing our behind enemy lines or five questions with the opponent articles. So there's anything jeff and i don't cover on here. We'll cover on the written side of things later week anyways. Jeff thank you for coming on man. How are you doing. I'm doing great. Is there a more traditional or classic. Matchup than raiders steelers. I mean it doesn't get much better than that when he talk about traditional matchups. I know we're going back to what like the the beginning of the nfl days right. Pretty much from the get go. The raiders in steelers have been rivals and whatnot that numerous times boy us. Oh absolutely the originally see and others playoff matchups and accusations of icing the field in the immaculate reception then even bleeds into modern day where the raiders have have the steelers number in oakland at the time. Terrell pryor beating the steelers. I mean just these weird games. The the rivalry still exists in my opinion. Oh yeah for sure. I mean it is a i hate using the cliche because it is such a cliche now. The they'll throughout the record books when these two teams play each other. Right like doesn't really matter. I remember the last one of the. I guess it was on the last game. I went to but In two thousand nineteen or eighteen when they play the raiders. Were terrible the steelers would go on to be a playoff team of big. Ben got hurt in the whole broken x ray machine in the. Yeah you know. Like i said the raiders were foreign twelve team in one of those wins against the steelers so always a fun match up. Yeah and even in pittsburgh the bruce gronkowski game where i believe. He led the raiders to victory heinz field. That's where they're playing this week in week. two. I'm excited to talk about it. Let's get to it l. Let's get started kind of looking at the big picture now. We had the philosophies of preseason regular season game were steelers even one. How are you feeling about in this year. You kinda still expecting the steelers to to win the afc north and be a super bowl contender. I did predict the steelers to be a double digit win team. I'm not sure if that's going to be good enough to win. The afc north. I am someone that thanks to the. Afc north is one of if not the best divisional football those will compare say the nfc west is a is comparable but For me the steelers are still a mystery in a lot of ways especially on offense the watch the game against buffalo. In week one yes. It's it's on the road. It's a tough place to play buffalo's a very good team But boy the offense was non existent for tuten for the first half. The steelers needs some consistency than e consistency. Running the ball. They couldn't do that in buffalo for a lot of reasons. Rothlisberger was rusty to start. I don't know how much that we chalk up to week. One just being week one and people still getting league knocking the rust off on and how much we say is is there cause for concern. So there's a lot of questions still with the steelers. Fan base is super pumped. They won that we going game. I have some. I definitely have my reservations heading into week two. I think the raiders are going to be a lot tougher than people think. And we'll see what the steelers are made of. I mean you hit the nail. Right on the raiders. Being tough route than people realize. I don't know a whole lot of people i know. It wasn't like a clean slate of picking the ravens last night or a monday night. But i mean let's be on the railroad came into that game as underdogs. And i think they impress a lotta people but i do have to ask you before we move onto getting into more specific the steelers. Are you worried about the browns and the ravens at all or i guess more specifically are you worried about the browns. Because obviously they're kind of up and coming team yet. The browns mean. I did get to watch the browns chiefs game in week. One Definitely a much improved roster. They're doing it the right way. Finally and it only took them two decades. But they're finally doing it the right way. They're making good decisions. It seems like they have a good coach. In stefanski in the ravens are still in. They're always going to be a concern. They're just radished with injuries. It's insane i think. They lost another offensive lineman on monday night football to a knee injury. He was placed on injured reserve today. I mean they're kicking the tires on lady on bell and a couple other running backs. It's insane injuries. They've sustained but they still have a really talented roster and you saw that on monday night football. They didn't win the game but they have a ton of potential. There is no easy win. Even when you throw in cincinnati in my opinion with job row and that young roster they have a lot of exciting players there The afc north is going to be very difficult. Like i said. I'm not predicting the steelers to win the division i think they're going to be competitive but It's tough to win. That division will put it that way. Yeah i mean no doubt no doubt so. I want to start off talking about ben rothlisberger. There is no doubt. It wasn't the same player last year especially down the stretch of the season. I think you talked about it a little bit at the topic of what we're talking about on the show. I'm curious do you think is age and the injuries are starting to catch up with them. Or are you confident he'll be able to bounce back either way kind of what makes you think that why it's interesting. It depends on. He talked to last season. Obviously he's coming off that reconstructive elbow surgery which he had in two thousand nineteen. No one knew what his arm strength is going to be. I don't think that was injury that that really ham. Hamstrung him so to speak it was i think he had knee injuries. I think he had some injuries to lower body that were causing him to have to really throw with all arms. And that's anyone that knows the mechanics throwing any object. That's a big ask of someone that's been doing it for as long as ben. Rothlisberger has I think that he is healthy. Coming into this season can he stay healthy behind that offense of line. That's a big question mark. Does he have the skills to still win games. Absolutely i think he still has the escape ability in the pocket. He's never been a guy. That's going to run. Like josh allen does or patrick mahomes does or even a derek carr does. He's a guy that is going to want to be in the pocket..

"Those games happen in the hangover is a place for celebration. And it's a support group. Thank goodness that the script that was written the pink script as tony mentioned was not the one that they decided to film yesterday and i had a chance to say something to my daughter and because i was really excited and not only was. I really excited. And we're going to talk about this because one. This was the most fulfilling the greatest opening day in my history of forty plus years of watching the pittsburgh steelers for a few reasons. I will explain that later. But like i said was not supposed to happen. Cohen colin coward said. It wasn't supposed to happen. And he's he bad. just ask him. he's a sports god So you know. Every nobody picked this with the exception of jeff hartmann now in fairness and i'm not claiming this we've have our bts's slack channel and There's a couple of guys I'm not going to say where they're from From another continent they might be from a men at work song that hit number one on january. Fifteenth of nineteen eighty-three. If you don't know what that is. There's not a place in australia called. Who can be now the so The guys from down under are claiming they picked the game in. They're actually they're actually sending trying to send proof from guys. It's over the all right but now a couple of weeks ago on this very show. I actually didn't like my pick for this game. When i picked the steelers for the game and i thought about it and i've seen the movie before and i decided that i'm gonna go with buffalo with the caveat that the steelers will turn around and win this game in the postseason win the rematch. But and i said that. But as i went on throughout the week i had already put it down on paper. I put it down on audio. Made it official that. I said bills. Thirty steelers twenty four. And then i started. I did a show with a. I did a show with kevin smith. The great cliff harris is stole punk. Katie smith the phenomenal coach from the state of new jersey. And we do the pre game show and he said to me. He went through this longest rotation about picking against the steelers and how we shouldn't do it even though he still picked against the steelers to because his gut was saying the same thing. But i was feeling better about it as we went along..

"I'm so excited. Not just gonna game week. Because once again i get to spend time with my big brother. Rich rich has gone tonight. Hey it is game week when you said game week. I don't know if you saw my reaction my first reaction that is to go all rick flair and everybody out there. Well who came week. i mean. Just think how excited we were when it was game week for the hall of fame game and i mean we're hype and we're like you should be excited for the hall of fame game. You're going to get to see steelers players on the field. They're going to get the show what they can do. And everything else and you know. Every week it's still exciting. I mean i'm i'm sorry. The last preseason game was was not and it wasn't because of the way the steelers played which was bad but it was that you knew that they were. They were rising they. Were you know the the more starts playing. They're playing longer. They get up with that third game and then it's just a big drop off. It's kind of difficult to be excited about that one but then these means nothing nothing compared to now it has gained week. I mean is there anything else other than ringing ric flair. There's really much else. You signed the ric flair woo man. You just write it came. We gotta be excited. I know everyone's been saying it. I said it. I don't know for those of you out there. Listening in podcast. Land if you listen to my breaking news podcast from over the weekend. And i couldn't break it right away. It took me a long time to be able to pull it together enough to try to do. The breaking news podcasts On the passing of punch elkin. I've never had to do this before i had done. I had deposit in the middle of it. I- depaz and pick up you. If you go back you could probably listen to it and even figure out where it was. I just it that that crushed me in in a bad way but at the same time it wasn't it wasn't just about being sad. That touch was gone and what he meant to. This organization was also being being so happy that we could talk about such an amazing man but yet we have to do it now in the past tense. Does that make sense. Does and you know i i know for you. It was probably like me. I mean i mean totally remember Belkin plan yeah. Left tackle in the in the eighties on a lot of really mediocre steeler teams. Touch was one of the better players. Yes on a lot of those mediocre teams and then when he went into broadcasting surprised that daylights outta me with how good he was. Oh yeah and you know. was just fantastic. Saddam was able to continue to live a long and being a part of the steeler family from player to the broadcast booth. And just the stories that you heard in the things like that honestly dave. I was reading all the things people were saying here and there on twitter and i couldn't keep from crying just while reading this so i don't know how you pulled off podcast but yeah it was tucked hunch is going to be missed I'd like to say that everything that happened with him off too bad this or that you know. What too bad for for us Touched never looked at it like he was. Yeah like he was inflicted with something. He looked at it as just a another stepping stone process part of his life and messy. It's gonna be real hard for me listen to you. It's been a little bit in. The preseason listened to the games on radio. Listen to the last game on the radio. Because it's announcing i looked and i love wolf. Yeah but he yeah. I'll i'll never forget fight dave. You don't remember. But i do okay. I remember what it was. Jack fleming and myron coat that yeah. That's too far before me. Too far before. But i remember jack fleming gong games and then i remember when it switched to to cope and hillgrove and i miss jack fleming and then when we lost byron coat i miss my coat and that's how i'm going to feel listen to game now. I'm going to miss jokin on the radio. Yeah we we had coverage it behind the curtain dot com Jeff hartmann did a great letter from the editor. That was that was out on sunday. I do believe that you know talks about it. He talked about before about losing his best friend. L. s. If you just google because it's much further down with all the news and everything going on. If you just google you can find find that if you really want to check out it was. It was really really touching. But i just wanted to give you a chance to say something about punch i i did. The brig news podcast. I don't wanna you know. We have a lot going on here. But i just wanted to give you that opportunity. So thank you so much for sharing that rich. I mean this is this. Is the family show. This is the brothers. Do in the podcast so When you when you lose a member of the steelers family it affects us all so With that let's let's get to the steelers. That's true elkin fashion. What would he want from us. Doing steelers podcast. With the first game of the season. Coming up this sunday he'd want to shore. We can take a minute. Air him he would say. Get on with steel awful. Let's talk about this offensive line. What he's gonna say which we're going to get you here real soon. But i'm just a few things to lot man labor day i i was complaining..

"All of training camp Last season was very. He had kinda hit or miss. You know you have some good games Early on in the season and the steelers kind of abandoned the wrong altogether but he hasn't been available this other training camp. You know they always say your best abilities your availability and he hasn't had that and so when you think about nausea harris and the way that mike tomlin and his offense is like us the running back he wanted to get all the carries until he literally need a break and so far in training camp. It's been anthony mcfarland second-year back to maryland. It's been getting the carry And then you had thrown kaelin balaj. Who's kind of a journeyman. Now is breaking several. Nfl team. he has been playing well. He's been getting rave reviews. Mike tomlin. i'm not sure. How many running backs. They're willing to keep it right now. Then he smells the odd man out into people wanna talk about you know projected yard i. I wouldn't expect much from benny's now if he makes it interesting. Jeff hartmann upon the cart and joining us here on pushing the odds so when you look at the defense obviously tj. Watts had just an incredible star to his nfl career. But who else has flashed here in training. Camp defensively pittsburgh. Well i mean. I think if you're looking at outside linebacker dalek. Highsmith your Last season he came in and looked good spelling depre- end or what he can rush from both sides and now this year everyone expected that big sophomore jump. And that's exactly what he has provided us for now granted. It's a small sample size and it's a preseason but in my opinion you can glean something from the preseason regards to you are dominant. Even if you're going up against the backup you're gonna make them look silly and that's exactly what he's done i think he's going to be an impact player. Everyone thinks you know was out free. How's that going to impact tj wide. I think. Alex is an melvin ingram. Let's not forget about him. He's healthy and looks really good. they're going to be able to counteract you know in in kind of place but the as a combination. I think the pass rush russia's still going to be unbelievable you you figure to it'll be back hayward Lulu upfront you. Throw in devon. Bush is going to be back at inside linebacker. They pick up. Joe schober the secondary look solid outside of the fact that you know steven delton spot is going to be vacated it. They're not sure what they're gonna do their In my hilton spot those spot. They're still in the secondary kind of up for grabs other than that. I think the defense could be better than last year. What concerns you on this roster. What part other than the offensive line is there. Another area that you're concerned about for the steelers. Yeah it's dead opposite corner of joe haden we know. Joe haden is joe haden and opposite him. You have to ask yourself. Who's gonna take that steven nelson role so they signed cam sutton to a two year contract this all season. They like what he brings extremely versatile former dime backer in south packages and now. They're not sure he's going to be the outside. Is he going to move in to the interior for the dime like he typically has. Who's gonna fill a nickel spot like the cornerback position. on i it's it's just a glaring concern right now on the defensive side of the ball i again. It's not so much that i think it's going to be a weakness or an achilles heel for dealers it's just it's just not decided yet and it's going to be one of those camp out. It's gonna go all the way through friday night when they go to carolina. Jeff you mentioned carolina on friday. The steelers are one of the two and the cowboys who will play the traditional or old traditional four preseason games this is number four for them on friday. Any idea what the plan is going to be. They're gonna play anybody of note on friday. I wouldn't be shocked if players like on the offensive line gets more repetitions together Someone exact enter that. I mentioned only played twelfth now in week. Three for the steelers. It's only week to the nfl. Preseason he played twelve snaps. Before coming out i would imagine they want to at least get him a couple here a couple of tries to get him reactivated But other than that. I wouldn't expect to see ben rothlisberger. I wouldn't expect to see a joe haden cam hayward and if it's patrick some of the other ones that have been given off the first two preseason games. I wouldn't expect it mike. Tomlin has been very mum on this. He's not willing to say then is going to be out or ben is going to play. He's he's always saying we're just gonna take a day at a time. You know the coach. So i'm not sure what's going to happen. I wouldn't bank on any starters playing if they do for very long friday night. Jeff the steelers have their bye week seven. Those first six games for the pittsburgh steelers one. How do you feel about in to. What's a realistic number of wins for pittsburgh in the first six with the first day everyone talks about the way this season end. I'm a feeler scheduled rightfully so it's kind of like a murderer fail to me. That just makes the first x that that much more important They have to play the six games. Well i would say that. They have to be foreign to at worst in my opinion after his first six. And that's not easy. It's a tough schedule this year. it it can be four and two at the by fans should be happy and then they should be ready to go for post by But then again steeler fans and he talked to bring off the bye at all. They're gonna talk about twenty twenty and other by got all screwed up because of the titans and they're gonna say well who goes of the by. We'll be so that's true too. But ultimately i think that foreign to three and three would be tough to come back from But you know what it you just never know. I mean i always point to last season with the dallas cowboys. That game in dallas is really going to be you know dak prescott versus dan rothlisburger. Well we know what happens with daqing completely changes so Looking at the schedule. I think that i have to take advantage of it. Baltimore minnesota tennessee. Kansas city cleveland. Baltimore is the last six that you're referencing. That's going to be really really hard if you go. Four and two at the top. How do they end the year in those final six games. Well the way that they've been ending seasons under the mike tomlin regime will ask teams and especially the way twenty twenty ended if they could just be five hundred zero six. I think that most dealers. And let's say you have that i like it. We'll take it and hopefully the rest of the season one good enough. But that's good enough for a playoff spot You know if you get better than five hundred. I think you're your clicking your heels and you're extremely happy but we all understand that fans and it's not going to be easy. That is a really really tough row. To hoe civil. It'd be interesting to see how that plays out. Jeff great stuff. They've coming on really appreciate your time..

"It's nine no it's not. It's not knowing what's going on here. Why are these two extremely. Hit some fellows here on my screen today. Bottom line is. I hope people saw it on twitter. We try to get the word out will not bump jump into stuff right away in the first thirty seconds of the show. But we want to explain this. The steelers play this week thursday night earlier days away merely days away from our first action of the twenty twenty one nfl season. We're going to get new data. We're going to find out some stuff about some of these players. The problem is when it comes to the podcast side of everything. We don't want chip you guys out on it on any shows and you're going to get a post game show on thursday so it didn't do any good to do the preview after the game. You got a preview before the game. And that's normally what's on on thursday nights therefore we're bumping everything up. We were gonna could've tried to bump everything one day but it seemed like things weren't gonna work out and it just worked out for our schedule for this week. We could go ahead and bump on up to sunday. We were both available to do it tonight. So rich ally are tonight for this. Gogo show tomorrow night. You're gonna have the hangover again with brian. Tony and shannon. I assume that they're all going to be there. But that's to supposed to be there tuesday night in place of the scarborough show. You're going to have the steelers preview with myself. Jeff hartmann and brian anthony davis and then wednesdays curtain call which i don't think they're. They're getting back to their season. Name yet of know your enemy. I don't know where they're going to change the name exactly. That will still be on wednesday and then on thursday night. You'll get a post game show after the hall of fame game and then we'll continue on with our with tony on friday touchdown under on saturday that next sunday. I don't know if it'll be us again or what it's going to be but you're going to be looking at the same type of schedule because the steelers play the following thursday so you'll have one of the shows on sunday and all four of them leading up to the game so hopefully this didn't catch everybody off guard too much. We did not know about this last tuesday. Did we rich. Because i haven't chance yet. I'm waiting because some people were just getting the notifications on their phone for those of you listening to podcasts. You're like hey which it's here. i'm listening to. "I said all right. i'm gonna just go back to sleep. And then i hear this more russell and right behind my tent like yeah. I don't know what that is but light on. Let's start doing some beat. Ese works educations up for well. I i don't wanna get devoured by a bear. That's that's always good. You know. I mean i can see that show though i can see jeff hartmann dave scofield talking about how i was devoured by bear memorial would still get three thumbs down and you know how sports fans are. They would say any word. And who's gonna replace brian. I the very first question wouldn't be about. Oh gosh devoured by a bear so so let's start this up. Pittsburgh steelers fans welcome back to the hangover. Brian anthony davis alongside me shannon white and. Tony is so great to be back. I missed nation. I missed hashtag bad company. I missed all of you. And i'm so glad to be here and all this stuff happened when i was gone. Vidi vici retires. I'm going. I'm in the woods going who what's going on next thing. You know. melvin ingram. Show next thing you know. We're hearing that steven nelson might come back. Stephen nelson's not coming back steven nelson says. Hey you're all lying. I'm never coming back so it was a lots of stuff happened. You guys did a great job. I had a chance to listen to the show Good job on the quota. Saying my name that many times i appreciate it in fact you guys can keep your podcast jobs. So we're we're in good shape but yeah so no. I am absolutely. I'm thrilled to be back. I'm thrilled the tony is alive. Because there were some reports of his demise. And i was really worried about that as well. So we know that he's okay and shannon. You look better than ever man. Oh thank you look at shannon being the corner square on on hollywood squares up there that ethanol privileged quarterback position. Look at that so all plays to be in place now. I've got a main regret though. Something happened last week that i wasn't here for and it's killing me and i'm going to apologize. Happy birthday felicia. I know it's it's a week late but happy birthday triumphs. I'm so sorry. I missed that but you know. Hey it is great to be back here. And let's get into it. Pittsburgh steelers training camp fellas. What are you thinking of so far but still you shannon white. Just super excited again. You know football pants. I mean without paying you know insurance but everybody seems to be really happy focused Already and and you know knock on wood. No may have reported injuries yet. So i'm happy tony. Defa what you see an out of the south side and now going into heinz field. I just continue to be impressed. By the reports of shannon said about the focus and how player like nike harris is he. He can't get enough work he just can't he can't do enough and like we said. In the summer they have or earlier in the time to go home and report. You're hearing about pat fryer muse and even even antoine brooks. I wasn't expecting here. Why hear anything from him. And now you're talking. You're hearing reports of how he's doing decent in the slot and there's a player that maybe not a lot of people thought about as a candidate for that position so i mean i'm just excited about about the young guys because they're going to need to depend on a lot of young guys this year. So that's something we are going to be talking about in the show. So let's save. Some antoine brooks talked for a little bit later because he is definitely going to come up on this show and we are going to talk about on this show players that are shining already that you didn't expect to those guys. Some of the making their jumped from the big jump from year one to year two players that also that we're looking for to really show up we're gonna talk about players that showed up so far i'm gonna talk about one that showed up in a much different way and someone that keeps showing up in this same way. It is first of all dan moore junior on saturday to fights in a row to place fights one with isaiah bugs one with cam hayward you a lot of times that is that's an earning respect factor and guys like cam or pushing a rookie to see how far they'll go so that's not anything to worry about but you also wonder with isaiah bugs. Somebody made a mention today is why is this guy. Always get into fights. What's up with isaiah butts right tony. I think it's a good sign. It goes back hearkens back to what they were talking about in the spring during the draft or after the draft or how they were trying to find more aggression among the offensive lineman last year with thoughts. Of course we heard that. We've heard that about kendrick green and now dan moore who you know who's apparently really aggressive in ornery and trying to make name firms of my question is i didn't think they were allowed to even really scrimmage scrimmage pad so it's impressive that they're getting into fights without without pads that tells me that he must really want it shannon. Does that mean that he really wants it. Does that mean that he is so fired up in ready to go. Does that mean that. He's being tested by the veterans. What does that mean with dan more. Oh definitely he adrian. Klemm ovid's vlad coach. He screamed all these guys before the draft to talk to him. And and i guarantee you. He stressed that this is the direction we're going and we're going to be mean. We're going to be nasty. We're going to be physical and he said earlier. You know if you if you ain't gonna bring it here but it's going to be on the bench and i think that more took that to heart. He's in there and so naturally the veterans are going to try to test him a little bit and you know these happens in the hot sun i turn and the you know these high temperatures. You know the blood ball's a little bit and temperatures flair and it's a great thing i said i'd much rather have to tell it. Take it down a notch kicking him into but to get him to you know. Play harder and show more effort. So i think it's a great sign. I think it shows a lot about adrian klemm and you mentioned him shannon adrian..

"Anthony davis the podcast producer. Had a week off in the woods man since saturday. I've been taken some naps. I am absolutely tired. So but i'm glad to be back. I missed you guys. I really missed hashtag bad company. I really missed. Bts's family of podcast in everybody in the live chat. That hangs out on all the shows. And i even mistake. Scofield and jeff hartmann. I missed those guys so as well as everybody else on the network. It's great to be back here. gosh talking about we're talking about bigfoot. We're talking about lao richie songs. But we're talking about the most personality in pittsburgh steelers lower than that's what we are going to be doing Looks like we've had some people down for the count not feeling that great this week in hashtag bad company. Hope you're feeling better. And if i missed anything in the live chat. I do apologize. You know me multitask. This is bad. We'll tell you. I do not multi task well. So i'm trying so if you need to. If you need to let me know. Put it on there again. George test mask are the scouts. Coed now yes a new yes. They are but they're separate troops completely. My daughter was there. It's cow camp as well but she was in her own troop. She's not in our troop now. They're co ed classes. They're they're coed. They they mixed through but we keep a very good eye on them and they are not at the same campsite their tents or not anywhere near each other. And that's something that we make sure for for many reasons but the girls troops. I will tell you this. They are organized. They are fantastic. They take it to the boys. They really do fantastic groups really glad to have them there. They get a great experience as well. It's a good feeling to have all kinds of scouts. No matter the gender. They're working together but at night there in separate sites and that's good too so anyway i i gotta tell you this. I talked a lot of steelers. I met some. I met some be. Tse fans there that that knew about bt se. Had no clue that i was on. It had no clue. They didn't realize that they go to the website. And like mogo to the podcasts. So it was so much fun. It was one of the best weeks of my life again but this year no issues. What's so ever migra up. They they were really pumped. They had a lot of fun and no one thought. It was really weird. I think being off for covert being missing it last year. They missed being a camp in so they were back in. They were on their best behavior. I i think it was great. I love this now. I'm going to say jerry cherry says come on feel the noise girls. Rock the boys. Now if you're going to stay quiet riot you can but jerry jerry would probably correct me. 'cause that's originally a song by slade believe nineteen seventy-three one of the greatest rock bands in england's history. If you don't know slate you know the song. Run run away from nineteen eighty-four. It is a great song but slade does really good rock band. But we probably would've know it if it wasn't for quiet riot. So can all feel the. Na is there you go check out some slade man. We're throwing out bigfoot lionel ritchie. Now we've got slade and quiet riot. We've the scouting movement. We've got so much to talk about. It's great we had to scout camp. We had two on thursday for spirit week. it was sports jersey day. What's yours do you think i wore. I'm gonna let she guess. I will let you guess which jersey i war yes. It was a steelers jersey. But which one do you think. I wore so throw it in there i wore. I also wore. I wore this. Make your own maryland helmet. Because i represent the state of maryland in the back our numbers on the back have the maryland flag in it. I did not wear the. Bj fit he pants garrett. He's that would that goes against so many things that would be not scout appropriate to where those pants..

"Of protect myself from brutality. I always kind of like downplay our chances. And i'm kind of like doom and gloom and so but joe that that may have been the problem to last year is joe began to autoimmune. I start feeling good about our chances and then came in at ten is oh what. Why wouldn't i be optimistic at that point. Even ten dollars like ugly wins. I don't know so yeah. i'm. I'm perpetually anxious that the bottom's gonna fall out from under us. I guess that's kind of where i come from. Unfortunately we need you to break down. Joe will yes joe. He's the he's the optimus he's he's the guy who's going to see the silver lining no matter how bad things look no matter how rough things are. Even when the steelers get embarrassed in the playoffs so still find the positives to take away from it so he he's always gotta pulling us off the edge of the abyss and so he's the yeah. I think if if it wasn't for him coming on whether the season fell apart last year. Have been chris. And i just yelling and screaming. And so yeah. He's bounced still screaming to be fair. A justified though the super chat up really quick. If i can click on a properly dirk sessions puts five dollars in the tip jars frost. Joe second chair podcast. Or is that a reference to something. Maybe i'll turn the next question over to joe here. Maybe you can give a compliment sandwich to your your other podcasters a couple of positive things about each guy and maybe one negatives slid in in maybe can start with a break now chris content i have i always comes in. He's a born journalist so he comes in always very well researched and very well Thought through the things that he's bringing to our podcast. He's he's the person that we rely on to To really set us up as what the structure of what we're gonna talk about is for in a lot of ways pollen. I just come on and talk. And chris sets it all up So it's always really helpful to have his organization in his research. That goes into what. What's gonna make good podcast for us this week. part of the sandwich where it's got the the negative part wolf say about kurt's which is kind of enjoyable for us if we could take a kind of pleasure in trying to guess where chris is going to go sometimes The hill get things just stuck in the back of his mind and they'll just really bother him and from week to week will still argue about how there shouldn't be to professional athletes that have the same name and that's just wrong and it gets really frustrated by its becomes a game of. How do we continue to respond to the things. That really bother. Chris and for all of paul's what he's saying is his negativity. It all comes from a very strong understanding of what what should be happening in these. It's a frustration when something that should be. Obviously happening isn't so his heart. Is you know deeply rooted in a in steelers fandom and he gets disappointed when it doesn't go as well as he knows that it can and i'm just here to to pull him back from the abyss but remember they can do they can. Yes that's true so you know we balance each other out pretty well all the way around trying to keep some good humor but also You know trying to bring some some good analysis to what has just happened. What did we just watch perfect. Now chris it's your turn to take the floor and breakdown. You're in whatever order. You want to take that for now. Complain about us there you go. I can't believe me. I mean real quick. I just questioned mike sullivan. I'm sure a great quarterback coach. I'm sure he's going to do great with the steelers. Why do we only pick a mike solvent when he's also the coach of our hockey team. I'm like i don't know these are the things that go around my mind so i appreciate tonight just as a more reason by like wildcard thoughts my mind manley but honestly Pawn joe are great people to work with. It's fun. it's nice to podcast with people that you have hung out with ally. You can talk about suffering with love talk about. We're steelers fans. It's great to talk about. the scene. Could frustrates the times last. Couple of games of season. But it's fun being part of them. I guess negative thing. And i got address this. Ah jeffrey we don't have the same merch deal set up as i see. Michael paul and joe have. I mean we haven't done a show yet. And you seem paul got hooked up emerged from somewhere and joe did and michael has more go to a store did buy some of your graham guys gotta get one of these one of the official behind the steel curtain dot com shirts. Yes go maybe we can get Jeff hartmann hook hook the squad up. But he's the senior editor. He's the one with all the money so we'll throw he's got the big bucks passed by anybody out. There wants to sponsor me. I can't be great. Beautiful stuff It it is the top of the hour now so I think we will sign out before we get there Jeffrey ernie film rooms to the people should know about. Yeah we just go. Field and i did a vertex online. Melvin ingram and what he brings to the steelers. And i've got a tj another tj watt sack party. One coming out It's cute it's there's been a lot of news so it's been it's been sitting sitting waiting for a spot to get published But that should be coming out here shortly. That's it for me awesome So chris paul and joe all your twitter handles are currently on screen right. That's right okay. So read those out for the people on the podcast side. If you wanna follow. "Then what they did the next week which was back to their typical starting lineup. So i will tell you this. Kevin dotson when he was in the lineup. You were looking at the steelers going over twenty points and the only game. The steelers lost with dotson in the lineup was week seventeen. So that's one thing to take from it and you're like oh yeah three one. That was weak. Seventeen numbers without ben rothlisberger and a lot of people still feel that the steelers wouldn't arrested everybody. They might have been facing a different opponent in the playoffs. Hindsight we know what it is. So that's something to think about with dotson coming back. It's really hard to judge a lot of stuff here with like big our troops because they basically played the whole time. So this was more looking at. I don't like to pick on the guy. But the steelers definitely had problems and ben rothlisberger felt like you had to throw the ball much faster when jc neighbor was in the lineup. So this offensive line for twenty twenty. One is going to really be the key. It's what is really going to come down to on this offense because one my last my last prediction for the steelers thirty predictions or thirty scenarios in thirty days on that myself a jeff hartmann did for the website. The last one i did was if ben rothlisberger has time. He's going to. He's going to push the ball deep down the field if the offensive line can give ben time. He's gonna throw it so my point. Is this week. When ben rothlisberger didn't play in twenty nineteen. We saw the throw everything short to throw everything. Short offense that the former offensive coordinator wanted to run without ben. Then then bends back and you've got a coordinated just wants to dump everything short then you have an offensive line at that late in the season was not protecting enough to give him time to throw of course is going to throw it short and now everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon of ben rothlisberger. He can't throw the ball deep. Oh okay you can say if you wanna say doesn't throw it you can't throw it well or doesn't do it. Well i'll take that argument. Say he can't do it. It's not factual. I mean all you have to do is look at the second half of that indie game and watching him throwing the ball down the field because he had time so it's not that he can't and i'm not saying he did a fantastic job of it but also when you're not having the most confidence in your line we can see that and then with no running game and everything to support it so who. There's a lots to take in with this. But i wanted to break it down. He had an idea of where things kind of started to fall apart with the steelers and how things were working with the offensive line and whether or not it was exactly what the problem was or not. I think it was a big combination of things. So i don't want to just lay it on one thing but if you wanted to look at this to see what part it played there. It was so i always to say this. I've got a. I've got a question. I got an answer for next week. I just wasn't able to get all the answer to it in time for this week. Show that that. I really am looking forward to answering next week. But i'm always looking for questions at st are superfan data on twitter or st l. Are superfan dead at gmail.com on the email side of things you can send me an email or message on twitter anytime asking stats question that i use on the show. Sometimes people just ask a question just to ask it to get it answered right then and i like to do that as much as i can. So makes you check it out all the audio podcasts. All hit the live shows. "We are back to fans. Get thank jerry cherry for the music. We really appreciate that that. We're able to us here on our podcast behind the curtain to make sure that you are checking out as many podcasts as you can we are bringing all kinds of you and when we're starting to implement some more as training camp gets going we're adding some some new podcast. They were outlined. That was last friday brian. Anthony davis was on with jeff hartmann on last. Friday's let's ride. They laid out. What's not going to be throwing so much more content. We're trying to bring something different with all of our shows. So that's that's the goal. And i it's funny because then it makes me sit back and think what what am i bringing. It's different with with my shows. Well you've got stabbed gigs. That kind of speaks for itself. We do a lot of numbers and we'll try to break things down there on for those of you. That have ever listened to me on on the scarborough. Show that i do with my brother. That's really a family show. It's about you know kind of being family how you would be with your family steeler fans things like that not that we talk about that but it's kind of the way that we run stuff and then i always have a blast on thursday nights doing a steelers preview with jeff hartmann. Brian anthony davis. That's just kind of like our flagship. Podcast of various things that we do. And of course during the season where we're previewing the upcoming najib so make sure you keep an eye out for these new podcast that we have coming out. I'm kind of excited to check them all out myself. So let's get back into our numbers we were looking at saks pressures hurries knockdowns blitz rate. All those things dealing with putting pressure on the quarterback by the defense we broke down the twenty twenty numbers the steelers. When it came to to blitzing they had the the third highest blitzing percentage. They're one of the one of three teams over forty percent. I did forget to say that. It didn't mean that they had they were that high with the actual blitzes that they did 'cause when it came to actual blitzes. They were seven because there were other teams. That were ahead of them But worked considered to have as many. Well they didn't see as many badging attempts. The steelers did some of these other teams like for example. The seattle seahawks. I'll just pull out a random one. They actually blitzed nine times more on the season. Nine times more on the season then the steelers did but they were a much lower percentage because they saw six hundred seventy four passing attempts where the steelers always saw five hundred twenty. Six passing attempts is. What is what we're looking at their. So that's kind of how those numbers go. But for the blitz percentage the steelers were third when it came to hurries and hurry percentage and steelers were second in the league when it came to quarterback knockdowns knocked down percentage. They were first in the nfl. They were first in sacks in the nfl and they were. I buy a ton when it came to pressure pressure rate. You know pressure percentage. So that's what they didn't twenty twenty. If you want to look back the twenty nineteen the steelers did not blitz nearly as much as they did in twenty twenty because in twenty twenty the steelers blitz two hundred and forty four times for a forty point. Three percentage in twenty nineteen they blitz two hundred eighteen times for a thirty six point. Nine percentage that percentage was significantly lower. That was seventh in the nfl seventh. Most and what's crazy is is the baltimore ravens they blitz three hundred twenty nine times in two thousand nineteen three three twenty nine. That's i mean that's more than they did in two thousand twenty or two ninety twenty twenty but that three twenty nine fifty four point nine percent blitz rate my goodness. That's an awful lot of blitzing and once again. It did not pay off hugely in the sack department. They were middle of the league when it came to sacks with thirty cents actually they were passed the league with thirty seven sacks so they're not as efficient with finishing off the quarterback as the steelers were but once again the steelers in two thousand hundred and twenty nineteen was much like twenty twenty. They lead the nfl in in pressures imprint. Pressure percentage not wasn't as much as twenty twenty They had one hundred eighty pressures for thirty point five percent and they were. The only team was over thirty percent but remember last year. They were thirty five percent. Thirty five point one so that was good in two thousand nine hundred and got even better in twenty twenty so they led the league in sacks the led the league and pressures when it came to hurries. They were they were top. They had seventy hurries. Which was very similar. You know a little bit less than that and twenty twenty. They had seventy seven. Hurries an ed. So in twenty twenty there were seventy seven hurries. Twelve point seven percent in twenty nineteen. They were seventy hurries. Eleven point eight percent so not not as much before but they were still getting the pressure and they were still getting the sax when you look at quarterback knockdowns. They were fourth in the nfl with fifty six and And a percentage of ten point nine percent which was actually second in the in the league by point one percent so there were still doing very well in the knockdown category in two thousand nineteen where they had fifty six..

"Cow and people were saying they wasted draft stock taking presley arvin the second seventh round. Pick the last there. It could've draft someone else if this guy's their starter in he's he wins the job and he does a good job. He's your punter. For how many years the next decade plus should you should think so. I don't know it's bad. I wanted him because one of the things we talking about is. It's very hard to judge. Punters today against the past. Because like i was talking with michael dana supported after he came out like the times he was putting up for hang times and the distances he was getting their common now. Then it was like holy crap. Nobody kicks this way. Nobody is this gonna putter in the nfl. He's better than everyone. We've seen point in history you know. It's almost like the the steph curry. You know kind kind of thing where he comes out and starts shooting threes and making them and all of a sudden everyone else's is learning and being like. Hey we can do that to a the game has changed. Puffiness changed and the punters today. Like you said yeah. Jordan berry does not rank well with planners across the nfl. But if you look at steelers history. He looks incredible simply because over the last ten years. Punters have drastically improved. And i've learned more about putting since they drafted presley harvey nudity listener. danny smith. He's talking about how it's not just the big leg. He's gotta have more finesse in science. And i really hate is i feel like punters the statistics. They should have a an inside the twenty statistic which is justifiable but then also inside the tent. Like show me like it. 'cause if if a steelers drive stalls at the fifty yard line inside the twenty is not good enough for me. That should be inside the ten. Let's set a new standard here folks. Let's have inside the tent. That's impressive whatever happened to the coffin corner to whatever happened to people trying to go for the corners. That's very rare. It's almost like the I blame the australians under some in live chat right now. they've probably messed every you know. Jordan barry is australian. It's nothing against the country or the continent itself is. It's kinda strange but anyways It's that whole kicking. The point of the ball aussie stuff. I dunno angles. We do have a superjet here. That i really wanna bring up from austin smith. He puts five dollars in the tip jar. He asked if we can get hallelujah. Performed live by one. Jeff hartmann if jordan berry gets cut by the end of cam. What do you say jeff. What would you do that for the people first and foremost that's canadian dollars. That's not real five dollars. That's fagin like monopoly money. But anyways i'll enter a long way up here cannot bucks is that we called on the preview. I'm not. I will perform. But i don't know see. I read that i saw it on lifezette. I read it. I'm thinking okay. If he week want no. I can't do a week one. Because last year week one was dustin colquitt in the weasel. Roy finds its way back. So what point can we seriously say. The weasel boys gone in these not coming back like we got rid of the weasel again. Is it the by in week seven. Is it halfway through the where. There's no halfway point anymore. Stupid seventeen games but still where what is the point. I'll gladly do a performance of something. I'll pull up guitar. i'll do it on. let's ride you have to tune in. I have no problem with that seriously so if it went down under seriously. Let's talk about this. At what point do we say okay jordan. Mary's actually gone for good barring injury considering last year. I almost want to say like the play. Offs like it scares a little bit. Honestly what is upon or too old. Define because i think very probably like i was sitting there thinking. Yeah he gets picked up by another team. We've seen guys go to other teams. Get cut and come back i mean. Bj finish. Could you imagine though from now. All now it'd be like two thousand five divisional game. Fa change of emotion. I'm just checking tampa roller coaster. Very back. I quit any team seeking applications for fans like goodness me. How can the team that is had this much. Success be dad vatted position. That's what i want to know. And that's beyond. It's a pretty important position i it's it's a holder most of the time. When did the backup quarterback stopping the holder. I remember that all the time back tony. Romeo vases muffing the pun muffing. The the was it extra point or field goal against seattle. I mean yeah lost the game. Yeah lost the game it's crazy. I don't know george. Dobbs could learn to do it. He just fifteen. It'd be messes it up. You can run but you can make the team. Ben has a lot of sway. I don't know trade him to jacksonville for six. Picking shoe imagine goodness me. It is the halfway point in the show. Though i jeff only signed up for ten minutes so if you wanna run you're welcome to stay. I don't think we're talking about punters for the second half but what are you talking about i. I think we're going to break down some of the fun stuff that happened last week right before the preview that that was super super easy to plan for that we definitely jealous of the day before all the news. Talk about. Well i'll i'll let you go at it. It ain't heard me talk about that so for good coming on as my big fan of the show time listener. First-time caller love the show standing guide. A i grew up listening to anyone else. Now you michael jeffrey. Do you remember standing guy. Oh yeah. I loved that show. Hey stan guy burstein a long time listener. First-time caller love the show. All right guys take these last thing though before you outta here. What's what's going to be on the preview tomorrow night. Do you guys have a topic for the no clue no we tell you virtuous we print minutes. I could tell you what's gonna be on. Let's ride for friday morning. But i really i. There's going to be a blog from down under. come join me on. So it's one of two yard berry hopefully one of them not the other one even love to interview jordan berry and say i just you know i would say that. I'm not a big fan. But still i'd love to ask questions about like what's going on in your head when you shank a ball of sixty five thousand people. What's the first thing that goes to your head. I wanna know you walked back to the sideline. How do you even like. Do you avoid mike. Tomlin danny smith. How many pieces of gum does danny smith shoe per quarter like. These are things i wanna know. I was one of the australian guys need to get that interview. Setup i'll do gladly all right. I'll let you go go have a good rest of your take awesome. Thanks for coming on the ladies and gentlemen jeff arman senior editor behind the steel curtain.

"Pittsburgh steelers coming back with some more numbers. I hope you enjoyed that breakdown of you know where the steelers might be a little bit stronger as the season goes on based on how as week by week as they go. I mean i it have been broken down by monto but then all the bye week comes in there so it was just it was by. It was done by week and it was very nice. Don thank you. Mike smith for that great discussion that we had over email and thank you for the fantastic graphic. I will make sure. I get that an article sometime here. At bindis. Soaker dot com. So next is. Let's look at the steelers opponents for twenty twenty one versus the teams. They played in two thousand twenty. Now we already know that. The steelers went from one of one of the easiest schedules based on record from the previous year. In twenty twenty two having the most difficult schedule in the nfl based on teams twenty twenty records. Now we've already talked about this. We dove into this on this show. And i talked about how that's worked out for for teams in the past and teams that have made the postseason remember everytime steelers have had the most difficult schedule in the last however many years. I figured that out. I think it was at least fifteen. Maybe twenty i can't remember. That was a while ago that they've made the postseason. They made the playoffs. So that's interesting to know. But when jeff hartmann wrote an article about oh can the steelers score thirty points per game this year. Can they average that. I'm like dude. That's crazy. I mean even when they were one of the better offenses in the league they weren't they couldn't do it so to think that they're going to touch that this year and obvious. And here's the thing and it's crazy that people don't read the whole article. 'cause we're doing. This was part of our thirty scenarios in thirty days. So the title of the article is the scenario. But it doesn't mean that our prediction that that scenario will come true and yet people were just assuming that because it's the scenario that the answer is. Oh yeah they will know. The his answer was no. They're not going to get to. They're not going to average thirty points this year. Just opinion and i agree with them and a lot of people were bringing up the you know the date. And that's where the whole thing that talked about with with data earlier to start. The podcast came about. What's good data and you know still can't believe somewhat says don't use twenty twenty data to start then you have no start anyway but i went back to the twenty twenty season and like we know things change but like oh this strength of schedule that should be. The number one factor. Well you know what. I don't think so i don't think so. I mean there to me. I think the steelers themselves is more of a factor than their opponents honestly. And we've seen that a lot of times. The steelers play better when they have a tougher opponent now. I don't know that we saw that very all the time in twenty twenty but i mean. They stepped up in that tennessee game. They definitely stepped up the first time they they played the ravens the second one it was ugly but they managed to win but the first time that they played baltimore. That shellacking of the mistake by the lake The that the steelers had last year. Those were some some solid teams. That were they stepped up. But the whole notion of the steelers. Can't you know. Are they even going to average twenty points or whatever because their schedules. So much harder okay. Their schedule might be harder. But let's really look at the data those teams at the steelers played in two thousand twenty versus. The ones are going to play in two thousand twenty one where they better for for offensive reasons or defensive reasons. So here's what i did. First of the steelers play nine of the same games. I mean may not be in the same location. But i don't wanna say teams because the teams i played twice nine of their games for for in twenty twenty one are against opponents that they played in twenty twenty that is six games within the division and then they also play tennessee who they played last year buffalo. They played last year and will denver. They played last year. Go say and a team from the west. And i had to figure who was so. Yeah so it was denver. So i just through those out. Didn't even bother because you know what the date is going to be in both categories. So what i did was i said. Let's look at new opponents. Let's look at uncommon opponents for the two years. So i broke down the seven teams that the steelers played last year that they don't play this year and the eight teams because going to the seventeen games schedule that they will play this year that they didn't play last year and i didn't just look at it as their records. I'm like let's look at points. Given up and points scored points given up and and point scored. And here's here's what i figured out the. Is that the steelers played in twenty twenty. Where based on twenty twenty results are actually better than the defensive. They're going to be playing in. Twenty twenty one. Yeah even though they had such a low strength Schedule last year versus a very high strength of schedule this year. That it's not because the defenses because the teams that the steelers played last year gave up twenty five point eight five points per game not part of that could be because they were losing games other teams. Weren't you know at the end. Might not have been trying to score points and just run clock that could be a factor you know there's other factors vault but that's the numbers. Twenty five point eight five points. A game is how much they surrendered and the opponents at the steelers play this year. They surrendered twenty six point three points per game. So you know just about a half a point more when you look at it on average all season that that's that's the difference so to say that. Let's say the steelers offense. Oh the steelers offense is going to have it so much. Worse this year are they. Is it the offense. It's going to have it worse when really it's going to be the defense because if you look at the point scored by teams last year that the steelers played. Don't play this year. Those teams scored twenty two point. One nine points a game. I mean that's not good but the teams that they play this year that they that they didn't play last year they average twenty six point eight six points per game so if you look at it the teams that they're playing next year. They scored slightly more half a point. More almost exact point more than what. They surrendered where the teams that they played last year. Gave up more than three and a half points more than.

"Specific reason like that but then people would have said well. Why don't you fix data in order to make it happen. And i don't know that they can't at this point so it's what about you. Brian you wanna say something. I completely agree with jeff hartmann. I completely disagree with jeff hartmann. Love it all right jeff. Jeff is absolutely correct. This team does not want to be there. But you don't have to tell the fans that you've got to keep that story book of latrobe because that's family tradition. You keep family tradition. You say oh how much we love it. You don't want to tell your fence we don't give a rat's ass about you you don't want to say that what you want to tell your fans is like man we value you. We wish you could be with you but you know what inside there jumping for joy. They're loving it because not only that. Just the logistics of training camp at latrobe. All the stuff that you've got to do with housing and meals in all of this you don't have to do as much. There's so many things that you don't have to hire those extra people for you. Don't have to worry about some things you don't have to worry about somebody at the Somebody getting out to the local latrobe strip club. You don't have to worry about that. That's the strip covering the trail. I dunno long way to ask. Don't wanna go there. We've got wayne safe..

"How it goes. I have a list based on ninety man rosters. Okay so this is going to change. But we don't know the steelers roster yet of course we don't have their snaps that they're playing this year in order to do this snap way today. A h so the best i can do is tell you the average age of the ninety man roster and right now for the pittsburgh steelers their average age there ninety man roster is twenty five point four four the got to remember a lot of guys that aren't going to make that team are the younger guys. Guys that are trying to crack their way in the nfl and and catch on with the team. Things like that there could be. There's occasional older guy that just is going to get cut because they don't have it anymore but generally the average age is get dropped down during training camp because of somebody players there now if you want to know where this is this. The steelers were ranked twentieth opposite their the twentieth. Youngest team right now so that puts them asaba just making sure. I had my numbers right. Sorry for positive for a moment there that puts them eleventh. If you're looking for the older steam believe it or not right now the oldest team the houston. Texans the houston. Texans have that have that. Have the oldest age based on everything It goes houston san francisco arizona new england tampa baltimore buffalo tennessee chicago new york giants. And then the steelers who have the same two decimal places the same average age as both the washington football team and the detroit lions. So that's where they sit right now but that's gonna change but that's the best we can do based on the data right now so the number might look younger for the steelers but the fact that there eleven still has them in the top half. I think that's where you wanna be. They're getting right about where that is but really it comes down to play on the field if really it it it really does come down to that so i have one more thing i was gonna dive into since i have a a little bit of time to finish off the show and that was i was talking with senior editor jeff hartmann and say hey you know i like to do. I was two two different topics. I know this topic that. I have this week is gonna take a little bit longer up through the numbers but i always like to have another one small to finish out the show i look at you have a question on and then he throws me one of mike. That's too good. I got to see it for its own show. And then he throws another one. Actually i thought i thought said no. That's good to say that. I don't show or both in one. Shell finally got one and this. This is so jeff hartmann inspired you if you understood if you listen to antiwar charge. You're gonna why. I decided. I go back and look at punters drafted by the steelers and how they wanted their first year georgia just to get the information. It doesn't mean that that presley. Harvard in the third or the second. I can't remember pretty sure it's the third presley harvard. We'll just leave it there whether whether it's a big six or thick kicker whatever people wanted to call him a mock on brian. Anthony davis is dick name because it just so what does it mean that. He's going to be locked into anything going on here. But i just thought i break this down the first thing of note. That's nice well. I searched in all the steelers draft and only came up with previously to harbin. Four punters the steelers drafted now with the first one being craig colquitt nineteen seventy eight. It's important to note that what might have happened with that announcing the steelers never drafted punter before that it might have been that either. A just didn't have the players position listed. Which i'll tell you this pro football reference for some reason doesn't have benny snell listed as a running back you. Do you do a filter for running backs. He's not going to show up. They just have him listed as a football player. They have its position in there. At least that was the case a couple of weeks ago and since unless they fixed it it could be that. That was the case or the bigger possibilities. You go back in steelers history. Is that the player that punted also did other things they just something else that was thrown on because the you didn't always have just strictly a punter but so we're going back. I'm confident that this goes back to the merger. So i'll just at least say that kicking it in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight. You had craig colquitt. He punted in all sixteen games. He had sixty six punts. He averaged forty point zero yards per punt and on his career average forty one point three so below the average first year not surprising the next punter. Oh and he was. He was a third round draft. Pick by the white guy for that in the next drafted by the steelers was in nineteen eighty two. It was john goodson. He punted nine games. You're like oh. I only nine remember what you're saying. It was drafted nineteen eighty two. That was the strike year. He punted every game but that was the strike here. And this is regular season stats. I didn't i didn't throw in playoff. He punted forty nine times. He had a forty point four yard average which was also his career average. Because that was the only year you ever played the nfl..
