"There are fourteen drivers tyler. Rettig basically his racing. He's got to be you know keeping these guys out of victory lane if nothing else. He can't allow them to win that race because automatically he's he just got himself kicked out so him riding around and trying to be smart is not something he can do. But he's gotta make sure when we come down to that white flag that he is in that pack going for the ease of the wind or the blot to keep somebody else from winning are. Let's go around the horn alexis winter and at that winter is not if that winters new obviously then that means we've got another person in the playoffs. Who do you like. And austin dillon. I said before. I think he has got something to prove after michigan I think you know the tensions are probably pretty strong in the cr shop of the past few weeks. And he you know him and tyler rennick both feel like they have something to prove not only Within the nascar grabs but within their own company garage stall. So i'm picking often dylan. Jeff hammond. i'm gonna go what i said earlier. I think it could be william byron. I think william would like to go back to back. I know rudy fuego would like to be able to get a win at daytona. So i look for these guys to be strong as well as the rest of the hendrick motorsports. But i like william byron willy. Be all right brad. Gillan i will take a first time for two thousand twenty one winner but it's going to be denny hamlin. I think he's the one that grabs the trophy on saturday night. You sounded like you were selecting a jeopardy category. There were five hundred all right. So that that's our picks. I wanna use the last minute of this show to say some. That's kind of laying on my heart. So i'm going to get rid of it here There's a lot of news out there and some of it's really disturbing and we've all watched the events unfold recently afghanistan and i just want to say this to all of the men and women who served their thank you for your service. We appreciate it. Whatever unfolded that's not on you. So thank you again for representing this country and our flag and doing the very very best that you could have had a chance over my career to meet a lot of people who did multiple terms there. "Race to the regular season comes up this weekend. I told an international speedway for a long time that was the property of july fourth nascar. I think wisely has moved to be the culmination of the regular season. We have fifteen slots. Filled one is going to be open. Could we see somebody. Say like a ross chastain. Maybe austin dillon bubba wallace. Eric jones. Chris buscher ricky. Stenhouse could one of those guys win and turn all this upside down and somehow sneak into the playoffs alexis and we touched on it a moment ago and green flag black black. But i really feel like. That's that's the big story here. We've established who fifteen in the playoff drivers. Are this one slot left. I've got to think that makes desperation at its highest. You mentioned this race. Used to be on fourth of july weekend. It's no longer on fourth of july weekend But i anticipate we're going to see lots and lots of fireworks because Like you said there's going to be desperate drivers making desperate moves and I personally. I'm gonna make my pick austin bill and i think after what happened to him At michigan i think that team is in a place where they're like. Look we gotta make this happen. Clearly they came to michigan with a really fast race car. I don't doubt that they will do that. Again daytona. He has a history of running really well at that race. Track and super speedways So i i think it's gonna happen. I think somebody from outside the top sixteen is going to pull the upset. I understand you have great plate racers and and denny hamlin and brad kozlowski and enjoy gano and all of these guys that are already in the playoffs but You know that might not feel like they need to play it safe because of the fact that they are in the playoffs. And so it's just going to be a trophy on the line for everybody. Pretty much But with that. Said i think I think we're gonna see desperate moves from some desperate guys and it's going to cause calamity brad's it unrealistic. Think that once again. We're going to see a wreck or maybe a series of wrecks that takes out upwards to fifty percent of the field that seems to be the pattern. Run two thirds of this race clean. Nobody steps out of line. And then it all unravels. Well you know the the popular theory used to be that it was gonna be in the middle of the field so then some people would lay back and that doesn't always prove to be a good move or you think well if i run up front i'm gonna be just okay and i think currently the way that they're racing at daytona with the way the cars are set up in the arrow dynamics and all of that it lends itself to very close racing at the front. How many wrecks have we seen recently. That literally have happened at the very front of the field and you know to alexis point. There's a lot of desperation but it's also not from people that are outside of the cut. Line i do think denny hamlin in the biggest way possible wants to win this regular season championship. And right now you know. He's lost a lot of ground. To kyle larson over the past couple of weeks and i think a guy like denny hamlin who has proven himself a winner at daytona. Wants to go out there on saturday night and do everything. He can to control the field. But there's gonna be some other people that are going to be trying to win so when you talk about something sweeping and taking out good cars. I don't think it happens from like row five. It happens from row one. Jeff hammond we talk a lot about the desperation of these folks. That are on the outside of the cut line if they win. Bubble wallace wins. Chris bush wins. They're magically in the playoffs. ryan newman. Same thing right but does this conversely free up the fifteen drivers that are already in the show to go. I got nothing to lose. I'm and i'm going to be desperate and try to win this. I think that's the case. Or you also may be looking at a scenario where you see a team and a group of chevrolets for example from hendrick motorsports saying. Let's get together and see if we can kind of like control the narrative here and make it happen. Who won this race a year ago. William buyer are you go so why would not as good as he's been running as of late would they not want to try to recreate that moment within their company. I mean they're gonna be there still smarting off after what happened at michigan this past weekend where they didn't come away with a win with one of the cars while you're not wanna go to the end of the regular season and see if you can keep Somebody like kevin harvick anybody getting the and things and kind of like control. The narrative win this race and for a guy like rudy. Few golan william byron. They would love to go back to back because when you think about it folks. There are not any past winters. Nobody's got multiple. Wins that this race at this race coming in here this weekend everybody else's retired or gone and done something else so this thing is kind of wide open for somebody to win the second race one be not be somebody like william byron and see that kind of dominance by hendrik. During the course of the night. I think that's the beauty of this alexis is that going to daytona. There are so many possibilities feel like daytona talladega have that mystique realistically we say a lot. But it's not true that we have twenty cars. That could win this race. I think legitimate. Yeah yeah for sure. Absolutely i think you know going into saturday night. There's probably only going to be one or two guys that are quote unquote. You know looking at points you know. Perhaps you look at Tyler radic and you look at austin. Bill and i think austin villain you know being would it be twenty five points back. He might think to himself. Okay well You know maybe. I might play it a little bit more safe because of the fact that i am within range and if something happens to tyler i'll be okay and then you look at the comments pile larson made after the race yesterday in michigan where he said you know i'm not gonna lie. I was looking at points. He has a twenty eight point advantage denny hamlin to win that regular season and that's that's an extra fifteen points for that team and i think that's huge for him so i think he'll be playing it safe but when it comes to everybody else i think you know you know all bets are off and you're right. I think you know at least half of the field If not more than that has a chance to to really come out and You know what they're capable of superspeedway race and the nature of this thing and and how the game is played and brad. You can have a scenario. Where let's say. Austin dillon gets into trouble. Early cuts down a tire. And all tyler metcalfe to do is finished one position ahead of him he could just ride round well not necessarily because someone else could also win the race and kick tyler radic out so you know. No one is safe in this one until the checkered flag. Or i should say tyler radic is not safe in this until the checkered flag. Because he's only one that runs the risk of being kicked out of the playoffs to your by getting a new winner roy by getting a new air brass point The thing is right now..

"If they disagree they'll give it a black flag and you get this. It's that easy you can play at home. It'd be a driver not already in the top sixteen will win saturday night and punched his ticket into the playoffs. Alexis ericsson. I'm to say green flag. I'm all about with With one race left in the regular season. I'm all about big bold predictions and i. I hope we see a great show. And i think we will. I think there's going to be alive aggressiveness. And that's going to be a new faith in victory. Lame duck rice green flag. It will be one of the two much-maligned cars. I i actually think ricky stenhouse junior is going to win the race in daytona as i like to refer to him ricky thus stenhouse junior you should be a professional wrestler but he will win daytona and shock everyone and go to the play offs where he will be quickly eliminate black flag. Oh you gotta have somebody go against the grain. I mean. I think that there are a lot of potential for a lot of different variables. Some is would go the other way. Brad i gotta say black leg cream is going to rise up when it comes to this. One you know you're going to need friends and you're going to need a lot of friends and the people who are on the outside looking in don't have as many friends as the people who are already. There has got friends in low in low places. Okay i can deal with made a lot of money. The song inmates so good we really at that place of the season though the cream is always going to rise it at the top at this point yes because right now it's all about the the the the trophy and you got a lot of guys right now. That won't that trophy and don't care about who they keep out. It's playoff doesn't mean anything to for them as far as the guy that ain't in because they already are in the top that's why aj two weeks ago at indy who's gonna who won the first rate that daytona and that all that was on the line there was the trophy to go back and look at his history Michael mcdowell a wind should not have surprised people looked at the history. There see i knew. If i spent this spot i knew he had the daytona five hundred i would. I would argue that. He actually was. Okay thanks off. We go to question number two. Eric merola ends the year with the most wins at stewart. Haas racing Let's go to doug rice. One is the loneliest number. That you ever knew. And that's what's going to do it. That will be the only win stewart. Haas has this year yes during flag. Right jeff hammond green flag. Unfortunately yes you say. Unfortunately yes do you want to elaborate on that. Yeah because i was really looking for kevin harvick to to step up and do better what he's done and he doesn't look like as a step there to make any kind of thing. Sit down so i'm going to have to go. Yes he is going to be the only one to win right. How about brad was then. I'll go black. Hey kevin harvick did lead the most laps at new hampshire. We've got some short tracks coming up. You never know. And based on you know duggan alexis theory about daytona. Then why not like chase. Briscoe or Cole custer winning at daytona. Then they would tie for the most wins Haas kennedy cannot point if he goes with kevin to win at daytona then he contradicts the original. No no i didn't say daytona. I said short-track okay richmond coming up we. You're talking about recipes. Yeah i compare it to hampshire not to talladega okay. Picky picky picky about it alexis. Yeah i'm gonna go. I'm gonna say black flag Because you know why not but also because you're right bradley said anybody could win daytona and eric how merola has won Superspeedway races so maybe he has two wins and not one You know i just i. I've listened to alexis this explanation there and she's about to become a mom and one day. Your child will look at you and you'll go. Why and they'll go. why not. I hold in my hand the last twenty laps on saturday. We'll take longer to run the first one hundred forty laps. Jeff hammond yes it. Desperation is going to come into play the chance. The opportunity the everything Some people are going to lose their minds trying to get into that highly coveted playoffs. Okay alexis yeah. No doubt no doubt. It's gonna be the way you know we're going to see a few big ones. Probably we're gonna see maybe some lengthy cleanup Lengthy caution flags I have no doubt that that's the way it will go. Doug looks like this. One wins by acclamation. I've got to go green flag on this. We saw three overtimes in the exp. Finnity race at at michigan this past week and i think we could see a similar ending when we get down to daytona. I strongly suggest they order three more rollbacks three more records to go with the daytona race this weekend taking enough. That's just a good start all right. That's the green flag black flag for this week. Coming up in our next segment mr reich. We're going to be looking forward to daytona. We just touched on it. What's at stake. "Passion for grassroots racing. There's a lot of talk in the nascar world about thin us in places that people romanticize where they want to go back to lately iowa has been chatted about a lot. of course. we're talking about the richmond's fairgrounds raceway that hosted one of the s rx races back there in the summer and sold it out. It was a tremendous showing and over. It feels like the last decade. There has been a great movement of people that want to somehow see north wilkes burke back into the pitch that seemed like a lost cause for the longest time but now my boss mark smith has been kicking around the idea. That may be north wilkes. Borough in some way can be resurrected. Jeff hammond i know you were up there this past weekend. Tell us what was going on. Well you already tests on the points. There's been a lot of talk but this past weekend Was the first time. I have been to the speedway in forever and you run. Run up down the road. Going past the speedway going to boone every now and then and things have grown up so bad folks on alpha four twenty one. You can no longer see the speedway at one time. He just kind of jumped out at you. There's no way to miss it. Because he's sitting right on the edge of four twenty one That's the way. It was the other morning when i grow up. I called. terry. Parsons you know wife of benny parsons and she's very involved. Nia sensitivity. which why don't you come into back gateway or front. She said come up front. 'cause i want to hear what you think when you go by the racetrack. I'm talking about folks trees. You know six eight ten inches around kudzu everything briars. I mean all kinds of stuff had grown up on top of this race track as well as a lot of the buildings that were there for the vip sweets or anything like that. They totally collapsed. When i got there everything was getting cleaned up and this massive throng of of yellow and red suits. That were volunteers to my firefighters. From all over the county and that's combat from wilkes county came in and put together a concerted effort to where they clean this mess up and folks they had piles of brush and debris four or five As tall as as a two or three story building so and a matter of about six hours they transform wilkspur from basically a grown over kudzu place to doug. I mean it looked so much like the real deal back in the day. It made you get goosebumps and excited about what the potentially leather still a chance. That the state of north carolina's could support north wilkspur speedway the now defunct rockingham raceway and charlotte motor. Speedway would benefit. There's a big bill that's got some money attached to it. That's going to have a lot of sway. Alexis and brad out last both of you. This start off with alexis. Why the romance here. I mean we hear about this brad. Host countless shows on sirius. Don't go by somebody doesn't mention north wilkspur. I went there a lot as a spectator reporter. Wasn't that great then. But people sure love. It seems like you know. I think When you talk about something that has a long storied tradition in any sport You know or any facet of life for that matter. Once you've been removed from it for a long time there does become a romance. That builds for You know what you perceive that it was when it was at its height and obviously not run a lot of races. There had had some great finishes there. And i think that you know it. It's all about tradition inherited. Think that's those are words that are brought up a lot in our sport We're moving forward in a lot of ways. And i think that that's and i think that you know creating new venues and going to race tracks and all of these things are are helping our sport but when we can put in that little Drop of tradition like we do when we go to darlington for the throwback race and and all of those small things. I think that that that has a romance to it. That is very very attractive to to our fan base. I- lights going to north wilkspur. Because it was one of the places that i could go that i legitimately thought late in his career that richard petty had a shot to win it and he won a lot at north wilkspur. Also remember watching. Ricky rudd actually dumped dale earnhardt. There one time. Not a lot of people did that. Ricky rudd wasn't afraid to folks. Brad kelly what do you think happens here insist. Is this going to come to life. It sounds like it. I mean in some way shape or form. The big question is how does it come to Is it something that hosts points paying races on the schedule is it's something that host a specialty event like an all star race. Is it a venue that becomes you know like weekly racing dealer. We see concerts and festivals in a lot of other things. But i think there's a lot of effort going into it. And i don't think that effort is going to be offered. Not so i do think. North wilkspur is going to be part of some conversation How indepth that conversation is and how far that conversation goes that remains to be seen but obviously a lot of people are looking forward to just when it does happen for all the people who want it back when it comes back. Go be better by the tickets. That's that's what they're that's what they're saying. If you live in this part of the world you need to go up to north wilkes-barre anyway because it's a cool area. It's very very nice. Tucked away in the north carolina mountains. There are billboards as you go into wilkes county. And they all have the old logo for the north wilkes barre speedway and it says save. The speedway seems like over the last couple years it has really picked up. Some momentum of was interesting to hear that one hundred fifty firefighters showed up to clear the brush and clean the place up. And we'll see what the next phase is is that comes about so when we come back we will Do a little thing. We like to call green flag and black flag here on fast. Talk if your loved. "Legendary figure. Al davis was owner of the oakland raiders at the time before they became the los angeles raiders. And now they lost vegas rates but anyway. I digress. al davis was famous for coining. The phrase just win baby. And that is what ron blaney has done this year. He's won twice but that leads the pack at teen penske. Jeff hammond is he now. The lead sled dog at team. Penske well if you look at the numbers you've gotta kinda debating that yes he is but when you look at the overall i think performance from leading racism being in a position to command respect right. Now i'd say no. He still is not a dominating force week in and week out because this even like yesterday he hung around and in the end he got eight laps in their leading. This relatedness race. But he got the. W and i think that's where he's weakest is it and and it may not be training could be ford as a whole because they're still not force against chevrolet like they have been in the past so combination of all the above. No ryan is not the lead dog right now. Even though brad's leaving he is not going to surpass. In my opinion. You're joya ghana brad. We've talked about this before. I feel like ryan blaney has gotten a lot of conversation over the years more than what winning six races should get you am i am i wrong. I don't think so. But i do think he's been competitive. I mean you look at his career and pretty much every season. he's been top fiving about a third of the year even though he'd only made single trips to victory lane he's still been a part of the conversation. He's lead twenty three hundred laps in his career. Which is a lot you know. So he has spent time out front. And when you're running out front you're going to get talked about when you're in the top five you're going to get talked about granted. Having six wins in five seasons. Now isn't the same numbers that we had seen. Other people put up a really outside of chase elliott. Are we seeing anyone else. Put up those types of numbers of the people who have come in and about the same time in the sport. Well it took chase elliott. What one hundred races before he finally won and then he broke through in a big way. I like eriksson as you look at. What brian blain is done where he sits as we head to daytona. Wrap up the regular season two wins. He secured a nice spot. Can we look at that team and go okay legitimate championship team or legitimate team. That can get into the round of eight. Yeah i mean. I think You know he certainly not a favorite of. That's for sure. I agree with everything. That jeff hammond said about where he sits within that team. I think if you look at yesterday A lot of of of what he to get that win was was luck you know he was able to get the inside lane. He got a huge huge push from eighteen. We saw all day long that it really depended on if you had a good pusher behind you and he just so happened to have a good pusher behind him Granted a win is a win and he has to now in that fantastic. But i'm not sure we can yet call him You know a legitimate title contender Or even a favourite heading into this this playoff season. We'll have to see what happens. You know things sometimes. Tides change and You know his team could step it up and they could. They could Tape over that Title but as of right now. I don't see that happening. I do want to add one thing though to the question that you pose to brad about why there was so much talk about him. I think obviously you have to look at his family lineage. But you also have to look at the fact that he was able to put the wood brothers back in victory lane in it narrow where they hadn't been in victory lane very much and i think that was something that really put him on the map as well before he moved over to that full-time and he rod good point. Also think his personality. He's got a certain charm. He knows his way around social media. I think he capitalized with his long running friendship with bubble wallace's not hurt him. And also there's there's a lot of factors there and you know good looking fellow so long hair i think. Does he have brown on. This is like the great bill elliott. You say after he'd win a race. Well it's a combination. So i don't know why remember that brad galli team penske right now is still brad keselowski. Joey logano and ryan blaine. Who just wanted michigan. When i say those three names to any of them pop out to you as legitimate title contenders for this year. I don't know that you can deny any of them. Look what happened last year's playoffs team. Penske everything worked out for them because they were the best on the short tracks. And we've got five races with short-track package actually more than that because we actually have it at darlington. We've got bristol. we've got richmond. we got phoenix. We've got martinsville They were clearly dominant there last year. And i think they're showing up again this year when it comes to that the playoffs are going to have a much different. Look than i feel what we saw throughout most of the summer. and if they're kinda hitting a good stride with that absolutely. I mean they two cars in the championship round last year and You know brackets. Laskey came pretty close to winning a second championship in that. So you're telling me there's a chance. I think there's better than a chance that's fascinating. That's that is the eternal glass. Half full brad gillian. That's why we love him so much coming up little race.
