Oklahoma City Thunder Embarrass Boston Celtics

"Special guest tonight, tonight is Jeff Goodman. And before we get to his latest zesti, take on Joe Brown which we will a little bit later in the show. We just want to welcome him to the Garden report. Post game show and Jeff will give you first bite at the Apple. It's I don't know how many times we're going to say worst loss ever because it feels like we've said it a lot. It's hard to not bother. It's hard to not tell this the worst loss ever. This is so this Jeff they work. They were atrocious and embarrassment but I don't listen, I don't care that Jayson. Tatum and Kemba Walker didn't play. I do care because I think Jason should have been out there. I don't know how bad the injury is, or whatever, is dealing with public. And it came like this, you gotta be out there. This is what 11/12 games left in the regular season. You needed this win, you could ill afford a loss like this, but even without Tatum and Kemba last name. They were without shade gilgeous-alexander, and they stink, they absolutely stink. They're trying to tank they've got a garbage team other than Lou door and you lost. You had supposedly Dead one of the top 25 players in the NBA in jail and Brad. I thought, Oh, supposedly. And it starts now, you mean using all subjects, you mean you're not lose. That's the supposedly Factor know. It's, it's true. Jeff look. I think they rolled the dice on Tatum thinking we could get away with tonight and still squash out the window. And so we needed to give him a day off. Let's pick the game and they pick this one on the back to back on the front, end of a back-to-back, and it burned him obviously. And I don't think he's, I don't think he's hurt but I mean, I get it doesn't matter. Like I watched this whole game, I've not watched to Oklahoma City games this year, I still can't name a player on their team

Why Rick Carlisle Thinks Doncic Is a Superstar Talent.

"Is a good choice six seven, you know without shoes on he is, you know, phenomenally strong quick and fast, but he is Big Ang. You know people that were looking at film on him from Europe and trying to trying to try to judge his level of physical ability and stuff like that. We're we're looking at game where he's playing against the the international caliber athlete which is, you know, a notch or two or sometimes three below NBA athlete and so there were a lot of people that weren't convinced but he gets anywhere he wants to on the court and he just has the ability to make something out of nothing which is very very

Will Doncic's Practice Habits Make Him the Next Jordan?

"What are his practice Habits Like like what? What is he like when we do see him but you do. Is he the same way as he smiling and having fun yet, very professional and also able to kind of have that killer instinct in practice. I thought well, he's a competitor and his practice habits each year continue to get better and better. He's a young guy that likes to compete. So when we're doing stuff offers, you know, five-on-five competition or will have some kind of a a prize for a you know, winning a drill. I mean he reminds me a lot of Jason Kidd that way and if you come up with a dog To try to simulate something, you know kid and and digest or guys that will figure out the best possible way to manipulate the drill to you know, like practicing one day where yeah, you had to make at least five passes for you got shots. So his adjustment to it was to throw it back and forth to the fight to the to the center four times in the back one and then that you know, she can play you know, and so but but this is this is what great players and some of the real, you know, survive fingers that we've seen in the history of this game. You're talking about guys like bird like Magic Johnson Jordan, you know was it was very very similar LeBron James. I'm sure Kobe Bryant was was a lot like just too but as as as time moves along, you know, the the level of growth is really there and in all areas from Skillet. Tatum, Brown propel the Celtics past the Pistons

"Brown another huge performance for him 31 points. He nearly had thirty three quarters here. And of course, he's shooting from over 80% in this one 81.3 months to be exact Bobby. Let's start with you Jaylen Brown. Of course in a big shot down the stretch. Of course Jayson Tatum's game-winner. They had to fight for this one though. It is a Detroit Pistons. But how do you feel about this Wing Zone? Oh, you gotta feel great about it the way they scrapped this one out the playmaking down the stretch. I think you could say definitively that between Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. This is the best plan between those two that you've seen in one individual game. I mean, it's an obvious but Tatum break and 13 assists there, but we gotta talk about Brown and where he's being, you know ranked in the league right now. We already we already got Jeff Goodman for his pregame our first preseason prediction there during the the third quarter. I shot that off. The on the group thread. I'm like listen, why isn't the NBA or at least the national media talking more about which are the Browns doing now though. He's hovering over two hundred points, you know this early in the season. League in scoring is this guy doing in Monday morning? And is Jenna Brown going to be the headline that we see on ESPN? I hope not. I hope we keep flying under the radar with Joe and because he's he's surprising teams a Scouting Report is coming out. Maybe it's coming quick. So I think it's already been here. He's adjusting and showing that he can adjust on the Fly page needs to urinate every screaming about Jalen. Let's just keep seeing them rack up the big points, you know Big

Tristan Thompson is an epic 4th quarter rebounder

"Celtics fans don't know a ton about tristan thompson. You coached him. I've known since he was a texas even before that when he was a you ball a little bit. I love this kid. I i love him i say kid. He's not a kid anymore. But this guy but i love him because everything. I've heard about him is. He is such a about the right things. And he's a great. Everybody always said unbelievable locker room. Guy what can you tell celtics fans about tristan thompson and that part of it because we know he plays hard court. We know he's gonna get after he's not the most skilled offensive player. But what is it about tristan thompson that if you are coaching you want him on your team. Well first of all all correct jeff. Just terrific kit or no longer kid. I had him when he was kid off. But just the kind of guy that you knew you could depend on. That was a friend and a a a good influence on. Everybody around him understood Way needed to do at embraced it without any hesitation. He he's sort of the ultimate peace. You know what i mean. Not a guy that give a big part of the game to heal carve out his peace and he will do whatever it. Is that the coach or the team needs him to do. You know these guys are just so valuable now. I mean personally. I thought that was a toe. Ariffin hiccup on part of the the celtics. Because i i felt the tristan had sort of come to the end of the road with with cleveland. You needed a change and the celtics needed a player with his particular skills. I'll tell you guys this this secret. I've always. I've always contended the tristan. Thomas is the greatest fourth-quarter rebounder particularly on the office of in that i ever coached ages had a knack in the fourth. Quarter forgetting big rebounds particularly on office when you need the extra possession when you when you need when you need somebody who will do something To get the team over the hump. And that's that's great. That's great quality great skill. Not a lot of people I need to go to my guys and asked him if that's true because that's what i saw those days. He was the best fourth quarter rebounded that i never. I had ever come into contact with any always did it with With a smile essense purpose in in in he valued that fact that you know my contribution needs to be this piece and you know he was ready and enable for the task of thought that was just a great move on the part of the celtic. Does Lebron have the highest basketball IQ in the game?

"Lebron for all of his incredible towns. I think he has the highest basketball. I q that. I've ever seen you know when we talked about some bonus before it's it's the same kind of thing and i'll give you an example of what i mean. There are a few plate players. I've coached many my career that you can teach plays to and it will take you a number of repetitions or even a number of days until guys really catch what they're supposed to do whatever system or sequencing Date you're used there are there are very few guys. Lebron probably being the best of them that can see what it is you wanna do and not only after one time running through it know what he is responsible for but he knows every position and every option of every player on the floor and and i think that's really really unique. You know so if you if he's sitting down for wild as a played new put in different stuff all he has to do. Sit there look at one time. He's got it or if you wanna particular defensive sequencer tactic you know. It takes him literally seconds to to understand not only his place in the picture but the entire picture you know and that speaks volumes to how intelligible basketball player. He is

"And that's that's a great point. He didn't have any expectations now. he also could have easily been one and done on total. I was going to get multiple chances because of that. So there's a time of that coin like being a second round pick isn't like all's in gumdrops out here like it's a different. There's some there's some drawbacks to that as well but yes there's going to be some expectations and and with that comes like if you start out as a role player then people will look at you as your bust. Your biggest concerns illinois. I assume i. I have a pretty good idea. Daytona bio and own involve kofi. Almost everybody else goes outta miller was great out of the shoot. Yeah he's he's certainly hit sort of kids here. i'm. I'm worried about them defensively. Yeah i think browner were just too. I think that you look at like the way they've been given a point. Penn state scored a bunch of points tonight and shot pretty well from the field rutgers. Shot like rucker scored. ninety one. Points and margaret is good. But they're shooting sixty percent from the field and fifty five percent from three and ron harper. Going for twenty eight. Like that is kofi rob and again putting him in ball screens over and over and over and exposing him because he is part of that. But it's a lot of like veteran guys making stupid mistakes tonight. There was a play where was guarding isaiah. Brockton for penn state. And i know i keep it personnel notebook. But i know he's going left and you know going and everybody in the frigate world knows what's right and he just literally torches like make him go to his right hand on the report and i was a junior. He knows better than that. And they've had a lot of breakdowns against rutgers he didn't get any fifty fifty plays so i'm concerned about their defense. I know they can score. And there's certainly a viable with kofi tonight. They're in their pick and roll coverage he was way back in myron jones. Just coming off and shooting core shots for the first five minutes of the game. We should pull ups where he's wide. Open easy yep.

Down Time Doesn't Exist for Tommy Amaker

"I mean, you're you're super involved now with the NBC and I love that Craig Robinson's done a phenomenal phenomenal job taking over being active. Like I feel like that organization was dormant for years and he's done a great job. And I know you you're involved in that you've been involved in some other things because otherwise your wife's going to I mean, like like there's no way if you're not doing something. What do you get going to be annoying her? Well, she know what first of all she's really busy and and everybody with with the zoom meetings and everything where you know, I mean one party email. She's another you know, we got the we have to find out what when I can walk in and out of the kitchen, you know, because she's there in that area. So we gotta get our schedules coordinated, but but you're right just you know, as far as the dog See, you know, the National Association of Basketball Coaches is our governing body, you know for all of our divisions all divisions of college basketball and we're very proud of the association and I'm I'm very proud to be on the board of directors of that. I've been on that now for for a while and and now that you mentioned Craig being on new executive director and he's doing as you said so well a tremendous job of like us and supporting us, you know, we have great leadership and you know take anything away from Jim Haney, you know, but Craig is jumping in now and Baton has been passed to him and and we're proud to be a part of it together and I want a few committees. Actually. I'm on I'm co-chair myself and Frank Martin from South Carolina. We co-chair the racial reconciliation committee, which is a very important job that was created after the George Floyd murder and I was asked to share that and I was wow, you know, it was really blown away that I was asked to do it and but we've taken initiatives, you know, we've been fighting for certain things with them. Organization to help you know us to you know, bring about change to make a difference, you know in our society and through basketball, you know, whether that's the elimination of trying to take on elimination of old SAT and ACT test standardized test, you know, we're doing things when we were heavily involved with other coaches as well with voter registration, you know, some different things that have come up, you know come down and I have been a part of you know, something as anchor coaches for another initiative. That was his his baby in his brainchild is called a John McLendon minority leadership under the name that you guys, you know know who and and Bob you probably you probably knew, you know, coach McLendon. I wish I did know I didn't yeah. Oh totally well aware of. Yes, just the legendary faith. And and so we're we're you know, we have that's a coach driven initiative. You know, we're all coaches. We have Patrick Ewing. We have Coach K. We have Dabo swinney's Nick Saban football basketball. What channel is the one he and I have kind of been the anchor coaches, but it's been he's driven. It has been his idea. And that's something that we're bringing about having minorities more minorities women and men wage being having exposure and access and opportunity on athletic campuses to become Future Leaders, you know, we've talked about how do we get more? You know black people African Americans minorities in leadership positions. Well, this is one of the ways that we can try to do that to help diversify athletic departments.

Why the Celtics Might Be Starting to Tune Out Coach Brad Stevens

"I do wonder if the Celtics are starting to tune out Brad it took eight years guys Bob, you know, I think Larry said to you after 3 years, we stopped listening and I love Brad Stevenson. I think the coaches love Brad Stevens. I don't know if players love Brad Stevens. That's what I'm working. Love them. I just don't know if if again they have that respect form in a sense of of that. He can really motivate them and he can like push the right buttons. I think he knows one button to push and I'm not sure again. Sometimes you gotta jump guys. Sometimes you get to get up up in them. And that's never going to be Brad Steve Jobs. That's in and to me it's not just Brad. So this is Bob. There's nobody else in the staff that can do that. Like go get a veteran guy that everybody respects that can really jump these guys and get on them and be the bad guy cuz that's not Jay larranaga. That's not Jerome Allen. None of these guys. So not even Turner What's that? Not even sure, right? Yeah. I mean everything's going to be a player turned coach now like he's oh that's not going to be his role. I mean, I love Evan Turner. I think it's going to be a really good coach someday. But yeah, I think you're right to some extent. The only male say is getting rid of Hayward probably solves a few issues Dynamic, you know, that that he caused not off to his, you know through his own, you know doing like wasn't his fault, but but Gordon obviously Brad was trying to play him two years ago and get him minutes and get him. And I think a lot of players resented that

No Kemba Walker Spells Danger for the Celtics

"Me if the Celtics don't have a healthy Kemba Walker by February 1st during major trouble like making kiss. This is a good by going deep in the playoffs. They got no chance you lose Hayward and then you're going to lose Kemba I get you get Tristan Thompson's great as as a auxiliary. Peace, but I I don't think it gives you a much different than what Daniel theis does. He gives you a toughness it gives you a rebound and gives you an athletic hard work and forward, but but it's not like either one of those guys. You can't neither one of them are scores. No, but they don't need a score of their know if they you know, if they if they don't have Kemba, I don't have Kimber. Yeah, right. I know right? Well, that's that's my big issue is if you don't have Kimber Kemba needs to be he's gotta be your number two guy Tatum's clearly your number one now. I don't think anybody would argue with that. But Kim is gotta be your number too. And if they don't have him you go from Kim, but it's Jeff Teague. And again, we didn't see a healthy Kimball last year. We remember Kimba as man. He just wasn't very good in the postseason you forget Charlotte Kemba and if you have Charlotte came up to me, then this team has a chance to come out of the East without Charlotte Kemba. All right, so I agree with that but I still don't think they're disaster. I think there's still a good team good team. Are you better I mean if it were just trying to invalid and prorating how many W's with a truncated season if it were an eighty-two Game season, I'm Kemba Walker. Could be a 45 6:20. Yeah. Yeah, I would I would agree with that but looking at it now without camp for half the year. Let's say let's say he doesn't come back until February 1st. So he's going to miss 2 months of a 72 game schedule. So what's that a third of the year? No not too much six weeks because they're starting on the 23rd of December. Okay, so often so just so I don't have any, you know, the I mean, I don't want to start trying to do math in my head. That's so humorous five weeks five six weeks probably, you know before he gets a hundred percent. He maybe maybe too much but they're going to come back to schedule. So at least 15 games. I'm sure this is why the Jeff Teague signing was so important. Oh it was I was a terrific signing and if I can put him doing what he should you know, how long we know who he is, you know, we know what it is and he's it's a high quality of such a high-quality auxiliary piece. He's a very useful auxiliary teasing. You're right. If you're going to make him a if you want to elevate him into a starter and a guy to your depending on then that's a different matter. But using him the way he said they projected, you know, that was an excellent pick up, you know, so but let's go through Bob without without a healthy camera. Tell me if they're better than any of these teams. Okay with our healthy Kim but like like a 90% Kemba ready Milwaukee. No. Toronto No the Nets. We don't know probably find Miami now clearly not know we go down there. Yeah, Philadelphia Phillies a mystery guest now, we think they saw that they they've done what they need to do. We think. All right. Let's see but I cuz I thought it would suck. Yes. I mean, yeah, I think seven Indiana is better without Kemba. Okay. So you got you got one more to throw in the mix Home Improvement team, but you know as Atlanta they're going to read during pooped on paper. The good thing is the good thing is even without camera there probably a lot for the play-offs but they you're talking about seven problems. I agree. Well, that's you know now why that's true. So I think we can agree on

"Logos designs great great stuff. I've got a bunch of it that I bought recently and remember you can get 20% off. As long as on your first purchase just use the field of 68. So again first purchase field of 68 home-field apparel. All righty, Jeff Goodman here with the quarantine Trio and I wanted to bring some some guys on here who have been stuck in quarantine a little bit who have gone through and who can kind of tell their side of what's going on right now in college basketball from the players perspective. We really haven't heard that all that much we've seen the guys have been been able to play games but we really haven't been able to talk to one of the players that aren't able to play games right now. So I wanted to bring on three guys that I think can speak to it well and give their sense of what's going on behind the scenes as a player dealing with all these ongoing issues with college basketball will start with Ryan Daly st. Joe's forward Ryan. Thanks for for jumping on and a year ago you and off. We're talking in Charleston together. Yeah, absolutely crazy year has been sensitive since November last year. It sure has it sure has all right, and we got sulaimon Diya Ki Jay from NJ t69 Junior terrific shot-blocker rebounder. You name it and sulaimon do glad to have you on glad to meet you got to be here too. And then I finally we have old myths guard an Oxford native who transferred from Cal State Bakersfield back home and looking forward to sat out last season and looking forward to this year. I'm sure off charcoal Joyner. It's got to be hard and I'll start with you because you are kind of a HomeTown guy. You're looking forward to playing at Ole Miss this year and you haven't played a game yet. You've been in quarantine since the season began your head coach Kermit Davis luckily is feeling better. He was through quarantine start with just what this has been like and are you locked pretty much dead? In your in your room for the last however, many ten days, what are you able to do? And what's it been? Like I say first of all, thank you for having me over here and we had not really been locked in our room. We have we have the better side of it. We have been working out individually like 101. Sure quit Coast West Coast Davis, he works out one-on-one guards big month, but it's been crazy though. Especially me sitting out. I feel like man. I'm just so anxious to get out there and now time delay again, but yeah, but we've been trying our best course Raley our strength coach even working out one-on-one. So right after we get done with individuals we go work out one-on-one with Coach Riley our strength coach, but we were trying to get the best out of it. We can just to get ready cause we have three practices and we I want to play Jackson State. So we're trying our best to get ready. All right, so you've it sounds like it's not awful for you that you're able to get out of your room you're able to work out wage. Actually want to know with your coach for the most part rotating in with your coaches Ryan. What's it been like for you? You just went in quarantine over the weekend. You play two games you're able to play Auburn able to play Kansas in Florida come back you didn't win but you play games it had to feel good and then all of a sudden you're done now for a while. Yeah, absolutely. Should we thought we didn't have any positive tests throughout Florida, you know, we were I was anxious cuz we we got tested Sunday before we flew down there. We all passed and then they did give us till Wednesday, which is the day before first game. So it's like a three day. That's the only two it's been since maybe like August that I am gone Covetous stood. So can we test every day so long so that way it was hard and then we we all passed us Auburn Kansas and then I think Gonzaga, maybe had a player or a manager test positive something like that when we yeah wage There's two games. We boarded our flight our plane back. We passed our test and then Friday night and then Saturday at noon. We did our spit we didn't do a nose quick swerve into a lab. And we also do the nose one on Sunday, but then Saturday night the lab said that waited to one person tests positive. So that was but we didn't know how bout Saturday night. So they they said they're going to retest us Sunday and that confirmed that we did have someone test positive and as the moment that happened we were all instructed not all individual like I don't know what the the word would be individual like protocols. So like a few of us like I'm an older guy. So I and I live alone already. So I was able to stay here. I didn't really want to go back to my family just in case but then like I think five our guys are home right now for the everybody kind of had their choice. Yeah where they wanted a quarantine essentially. Yeah. And for the guys who are like jadrien and Greg Foster, you know, they're from Atlanta and South Florida. So they they they got them to a hotel. They weren't allowed in the school building. So they they've been in a hotel and none of us are allowed in the gym. We're not allowed to work out. We're not allowed to see our coaches. We haven't that started on probably Sunday. So today's Thursday and I think that'll probably go on for fourteen days or ten. Whatever the amount of days till the 12 or something. So it's been hard, you know, it's a lot of free time and I'm I'm graduating this this year like this December song. I've basically turned it all my finals. I'm just watching a lot of college basketball which is fun. It's just it's just what you're you want to play. Yeah, exactly. I just want to play cuz like it's one of those things where like if you don't feel like you're sick, you're like what am I? What am I doing? But you understand that the the two to 14 day window is really real so you have to abide by Philadelphia jurisdiction and then schools and so that's just my side of the office right now. I'm just kind of watching games missing playing doing jumping jacks push-ups. I'll take this damn apartment building I start doing I think the four of us before we get out this room should do, you know, like twenty-five jumping jacks, just you know later when we're done with it. I don't know if I can make it through 25. You guys are probably a lot better than me at that. All right, so them on your store or can we go back? Can we go back to like the summer with you? And you're from Molly and you couldn't go home. You couldn't go home you were you were stuck in Jersey? Through the whole pandemic take me through that for you and what this was like because I think again when these guys here that they're going to be like, all right, you know what my life my day off so bad. Yeah. So I will since March when the whole situation started. I've been stuck on campus the whole time. So I was lucky to school a lot of international to stay here over the summer some schools shut down. Everybody had to leave so we were allowed we were able to say it. So basically on the campus will like fifteen people on the entire campus so which was hard because you had nothing to do with the gym clothes you could literally nothing in the world in your room the whole time. So it was a song about us things go you kind of.

"All right time to welcome everybody into the inaugural Goodman and humble podcast. We did go with Goodman and humble Rob. I'm sorry wage on the frame. This is this is trash. Well, listen until until you, you know, start to lower your demands money-wise. It's going to be good men and humble, right? It was I didn't put em on Twitter until like three nights ago and he's mad at me. I think that the doctor said that all right, so we're on the brand new field of 68 media Network misses the first podcast of many jobs that are coming National pods. We've got teams specific pods. We've got Eric dievendorf coming up with an interview with not even an interview their conversations with Jim Boeheim. We've got damn dog. How doing the Gonzaga one talking to Adam Morrison some great stories. So make sure you check them all out on the field of 68 media network, but for now, I'm Jeff Goodman. He's robbed Hummel Robbie Hummel. I always you know, I don't know what to go with. Is it still robbing you want? It's honestly the crazy thing was like my parents call me Robin. Yeah, but it breaks down to where like all my friends call me Rob but people that I don't know like well are more Rowdy it's it's whatever. I don't not paying or goes Rob I think yeah it does. Is he always did he never call you Robbie Ross rarely like maybe one. I mean, he said Robbie Hummel either name is not the Purdue. But you know, we'll talk about those on a future home. We will save those though. He he's he's always he's always good for a laugh push banks. Anyway, the Goodman and humble podcast will have it. Every single week will bring you the latest in a game. In college hoops will have some hot takes will have Insight will bring on guests occasionally. We'll also just have the two of us. Rob is is the case this week and often talk about whatever it's going on in college hoops, and there is a ton to talk about today, which is crazy. We're five weeks in from the start the hopeful start of college basketball season on November 25th, but some news broke Thursday and involved Arizona and an evolved Sean Miller my alma mater. I'll be forthcoming here my alma mater. That page is plenty. I know. Well listen, it's not like Purdue. We're not squeaky-clean not many can be that's right. That's right all those Indiana. Gregg Marshall denies assaulting his players

"So embattled Wichita state coach Gregg Marshall released another statement second statement about the allegations made against him earlier this week. and. Among other things, he said this in response to the allegations put forward in the media I simply state unequivocally that I have never physically struck a player or colleague he continued allegations claiming otherwise are false. It is important that the investigation is school. This investigation that Wichita State. is currently. Conducting. It is important that the investigation conclude its work without outside influence in unrelenting character assassination by a member of the media that's Jeff Goodman. That repeatedly targets in my family threatens to undermine the impartiality of the investigation in quote, I should make it clear. Gregg Marshall didn't say Jeff Goodman I was just sort of added that to Mexican people understand the unrelenting character associated by a member of the media. That seemed directed at at Jeff Goodman who of course, interviewed more than thirty people connected to Wichita State Program to write the story that they published at stadium a what stadium dot com last week. So norlander, what did you think of Gregg Marshall said? Statement because it goes way further than the first statement in the first statement, he did not say he's never physically struck a player or Collie and that's when he did. On my question for you is, why do you think Greg Marshall made this statement which was six days after the stories. From Goodman and from the athletic why do you think he made the statement? He made six days for moved. I have a thought on a theory on but I was curious what you might think I think he has. been made aware or has reached the conclusion on his own that listen. If you put your hands on player, it's over. And so at that point, you got really one option if your goal is trying to your job and that is just to say, didn't happen.

"Yes. I said because there are a ton of people in the business that don't like Gregg Marshall. Okay. I didn't know Greg was on next Thursday care that he was on next not a big deal to me. They lead into Greg with my quote great. Martial comes back and says, well I could say the same thing about Jeff Goodman and he's right who cares? Who cares? Well now we know obviously why Gregg Marshall wasn't able to get some of those plum level jobs because the guy can coach his ass on there's no denying dead. Gregg Marshall is a terrific exynos basketball coach, but how he does his job right now is in question. And as you mentioned some of the other things that we haven't talked about, how about this Shack Morris the day that he is punched twice by Gregg Marshall told me he had hours earlier in a meeting in Gregg Marshall's office told him that that that Shaq's mother has cancer shock found that out. They they hadn't told Jack for years. They didn't want to kind of bother him and it really make him deal with anything more than he was already dealing with in Wichita and he tells Greg Marshall that his mother's got cancer and hours later March or goes off on him and punches him and I thought you know Shaq Morris on the record and that was the big thing Rob for me was People say like why did it take so long, you know like I started this back in April when there was a a rash of transfers. That's how this started was looking into Iraq, why would seven people which is an unheard-of number transfer out of the Wichita State program really good players Eric Stevenson Junior his part and sometimes you'll see five players that all average, you know, a point to Five Points a game. This was double-digit scorers young guys that had promised Noah Fernandez and they all left. So I started making calls that way and started getting more and more information about some of the things that Greg Marshall had done in the past. So I literally took us through that cuz I'm always interested in in these kinds of things. If you say it was a six-month investigation right just kind of take me through and took listeners through the step-by-step how that works. Like right? Like, what's the first thing that you hear? What do you do after that? Like how does this kind of reporting work? And why does something this big takes six months for you to just kind of dog? People through that step-by-step. Well, listen the biggest, you know again when when it started its if you've got to get organized right you start making a phone call social media is great these days because you can wage act with kids the they're following me on Twitter there on Facebook kids are over seas. So you're reaching out to people and having these conversations and most of them again were off the Record the kids aren't going to put their names on it, especially those that were transferring because they're looking for new homes. So they can't put their names out there at that point cuz they're worried that Gregg Marshall is a got a crush them and they're not going to be able to to find hi major homes, even though they're good enough..

"I welcomed in another edition of The Good and Plenty podcast. I'm your host Jeff Goodman and pleased to be joined by Richmond head coach Chris Mooney of the top fifteen. I've got you ranked number fifty in the country in the preseason Chris Richmond Spiders. How does that sound? First of all that sounds pretty good. That sounds pretty good. I mean, you know, we we feel like we do have a really good team and had not had last year not ended so abruptly, you know, we would have been able to see what we were able to do but that's a that's a flattering and and hopefully we can live up to that you like the high expectations is that I've always told coaches like you really don't want to be ranked at high in the preseason. You want to you really suck. Overachieve, right? I mean you want to be ranked low and overperform I would I would say back in the day that was definitely the case, you know the offseason it didn't matter that much Street and Smith's came out in September October but now the off season is so important or so vital in terms of you know, what the media is writing what people are talking about how they're projecting those things are really important because of recruiting and perception. And so I think there's a lot more value to it. Now, even though deep down as a coach, you know, you'd rather be unnoticed in the preseason, by the way before we get on a college hoop and everything with your team with the issues, whatever I want to talk about your first place Philadelphia Eagles the one two and one furthest place Carson Wentz LED, Philadelphia Eagles. Are you excited more? So after Sunday, you know, I tell you what time You know having a Superbowl a recent Super Bowl really helps things. The Los Angeles Clippers Have Fired Doc Rivers

"Another myth another legend was fired Bob and I don't you were shocked as I was I, didn't see this coming where Doc rivers we had on the podcast you and I are both huge fans of doc as a human being as a coach. I don't. I. Don't know where I stand right now. Obviously, he is blown some big leads the latest being one in the bubble. Denver and with a team that let's face it. Steve. Balmer paid doc rivers big money to win a championship not not be eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the in the western conference semifinals so Valid or not valid to let doc rivers go. I knew that we all knew that losing another three to one was not a good thing to have on on anyone's resume to do it twice in. Three years. And the do it with this owner as you said, who invested the overpaid for the team I think even by modern standards that teams are worthy he he got a little giddy with his two billion dollar plus purchase of the clippers the Lakers we could see but not the clippers. So okay, he's invested in this and I worried about it a little bit but I didn't think it would happen. I thought it was a possibility of Steve Bomber angry. But, I, thought it was an of course couching it. It's mutual ha you know coming out of the usual walk away from that money it's the modern. Thing to do that say it's mutual nationally I felt badly because I am very proprietary to a doctor and I have communicate with him already. But. It's understandable that an owner. Successful businessman. Odyssey's bomber is a highly successful with that investment. I I don't know what I don't know Jeff is the level of his own personal basketball acumen. I don't know how much he thinks. He knows he knows more doesn't knows more than that part I don't know you know. Here's what I'll tell you about. Here's what I'll tell you I. Don't think this was all Steve. Balmer. My guess is Jerry West who they pay a ton of money as a consultant. Okay. As a consultant. Yeah. Good point is Jerry West played a significant. In this move and now the question will be. What what's next in the big thing with doc and you and I know this we've been around enough. Great human being great communicator. But the biggest words that you would hear from players about doc dating back to the Celtics was a little bit of a Country Club, right? It's it's easy doctors a practice much. Older players veterans love, them. Again it's where you want to go to and the latter part of your. Extend Your career. and You wonder if that played a huge part here because certainly the clippers didn't look like there were in tiptop condition in the bubble weather. It was Knox fault whether it's back that mantras Harrow had a death in the family and didn't come into the bubble too late whether it's a fact that Lou Williams left the bubble and came back the Patrick Beverley. There were there were a lot of issues. But ultimately. It. Probably does follow on doc in a sense that you had the pieces you had the pieces. You shouldn't be watching if you're the clippers, you can't be watching the Los Angeles Lakers right now compete for

And it's worked out for them pretty well as long as he's healthy and on the court. You know the teams that I obviously have had the fourteen percent chance right now golden state Cleveland Minnesota going in What's the biggest story line? I'll start that way matt what's the biggest story line for Thursday night or they draft lottery? For me this year you know there's not a clear cut star, right so I've got six guys in my first year and it's all pretty close. So I think this year's lotteries is more important than than it is in a lot of years because you have a guy that could be considered with the number one pick or go five or six, and so I I'm sure saying it feels the same way I mean we've been waiting impatiently for this order.

I was twenty one when Rodney King was beaten in the early nineteen nineties, and honestly not much change in fact under the current administration. I think it's only gotten worse. Villanova's Jay Wright proves most coaches get time to build a winner

"Okay last jay wright and villanova won his second national title in three years put him on top of the mountain in terms of the hottest college coach and with two teams the knicks and magic firing head coaches yesterday you know his name is likely on some nba teams wishlist and the knicks fired their coach and the name jay right was trending like five minutes later so with that thought let's welcome in our basketball insider jeff goodman so we know about rights history at nova news new system at rowley and everything else do you see a scenario where an nba team is able to pry him out of there i don't think it's going to happen right now greenie i think it's gonna take a couple more years i've talked to jay about this in the past she was texting when the a little while ago these in rome right now with his wife patti and he's a different dude when it comes to all this he's not you typically college coach he's got great balance with his family his kids are a little bit older now but this is a guy who spurned any sort of interview in two thousand nine when he came out that final four appearance when his good fred ed's defense key was the general manager at the time with the sixers so i think it's gonna take an elite job for jay right to make the move and right now he's got a team coming back likely villanova where he returns four his top six players so make an actually make another run and potentially win a third national title within a four year period which would be remarkable.
