"And hello and welcome back to her hoop stats on plugged, as always, you're here with Megan gower, and it has been a crazy couple of weeks in ACC play. So here today with me is Marissa sisk from our her group S team. She handles our biweekly ACC roundups, lives in the triangle area has been to a lot of ACC games this season and we're going to talk all about all the crazy things that we've seen over the last few weeks in the I just think straight chaos is probably the only way to describe it in league play so far. It's a good way to put it, yeah. And I was like starting to write my own book for this week and I was like, okay, the 29th was crazy and then this week happened. And I'm like, well, I guess we're not even okay close to yeah, exactly. It's just bad. I think everyone thought the ACC was going to be really fun going into the season. A lot of top teams, I think it's exceeded expectations in terms of how good top to bottom it has been so far and the amount of upsets and things like that we've already seen to start off conference play. Yeah, we're only in week three. Yeah, week three of full play, obviously there was that random one in November and then a couple in December, but third week of full go. All right, so starting out, I feel like maybe we start with my opinion is probably the most shocking thing, which is duke cup four zero in conference play, undefeated, wins over NC state, Louisville, top of the standings, just like we all predicted, obviously. But just what have you seen so far from the blue doubles that kind of has accelerated that some less Taylor and their defense and those two things are not mutually exclusive. In duke going on the road to their big one at NC state, she was excellent on both sides of the floor. A lot of people are going to point to her offensive performance, but coach Kara Lawson said in postgame that she was actually more impressed, possibly by her defensive performance. And it was just there at every turn when they needed her. Basically. And in a sold out Reynolds coliseum that turned out to be a lot. But it really has been the defense for them. I think they are allowing the fourth fewest points of anyone in the nation. I was working on them earlier tonight, but I've moved on. And just their ability to shut down other teams on defense is probably the top thing you have to look to and then a lot of contributions from across the board again in that NC state when Elizabeth balogun went 6 for 6 from the field. So that's another, they're getting contributions from a lot of players. I think another big one would be the development of Cheyenne de Wilson as a sophomore now running the floor for them. Yeah, definitely. A player that really impressed. I thought it was freshman year, and she's been kind of even better. Now that we've kind of gotten into stride of this season. So that's been a really good for them. I feel like I don't want to jump to conclusions because it's only like four games in, but it feels like duke is certainly inserting themselves into the conversation of you can't leave us out of talking about the title race for the ACC. Yeah, especially with not that they've played up to expectations exactly the season either or they've played not up to exploitation for a duke is exceeded them, but they've already beat the team that was the pretty much unanimous pick to win the conference in Louisville at home in Cameron. So if that gives you an indication of not only were we apparently wrong about who was maybe going to win the league and not that Louisville still can't, but just to statement on how duke is kind of picking up not only the big upsets like the one in rally, but also kind of some of the games that no one would have really picked them to win. Going into the season or even maybe going into that one. Yeah, kind of on that note. Maybe talk about Louisville a little bit too because I feel like they started the season obviously way worse than expected going from a top ten team to quickly out of the AP poll. And I thought maybe by this time of year Jeff falls is a really good coach. They have some great pieces. They would have right at the ship, but I haven't loved what I've seen from them so far in ACC play either. They haven't been amazing, but they are three and one that do glasses are only one. And that was, again, on the road 7 point loss in Cameron. I think that game combined with the I guess not combined with 'cause it was two games before that, but the depaul one seemed to be a good win for them to kind of get stuff together. I was at that duke game and coach Wallace was actually like pretty happy overall with what he had seen. He just said that duke's defense, again, was pretty much a shutdown in that one. Haley van lith started out really cold for them and then got back to a more Healy van with type play. But I think that depaul game seems to have gotten them job a little bit even though they did drop that duke game since then. And then there are other three games they've in conference play. They've beat a Syracuse team, everyone. Expected to be better than last year, but no one would have picked probably the orange in that one either. And then same thing with Georgia Tech, although that one was also only an 8.1. So I definitely agree with you that they haven't certainly lived up to their almost unanimous conference winning. Prognostications by those of us in the media where the ACC has a blue ribbon panel, which is a combo, but they certainly haven't lived up to that, but they also haven't have definitely improved since they're kind of rough stretch in the Bahamas, I believe. Yeah. I sometimes mix up what. I would at this point. Once you're through Christmas and the holidays, that's the thing. I could have told you. Some of them went to Mexico, someone I went to the palmers. Yeah, I think it'll be interesting when we see them against some of these other top teams in the league, but the thing that stood out to me and you pointed out with Georgia Tech and I think it was the same with just the single digit wins over kind of the two teams that are running out the bottom of the ACC. Yeah, the two winless teams in conference play. Yeah. So yeah, but I still think the team has the pieces and they have to fall and they can get it together. I feel like I still haven't really seen them quite give the time performance where expecting yet. That's certainly there. I think where to go next. Maybe I'm jumping all around here, but circling back to kind of maybe the group of teens we thought would be in contention at the start. So we kind of talked about Louisville, maybe not measuring up to those expectations. But then I think you've got a group of three other teams that were in that conversation at the start of the year. Maybe four other teams in terms of Notre-Dame North Carolina and C state. And Virginia tech is the one that I was saying. Maybe it wasn't really in that top conversation, but I think probably deserved to be someone in that group. I think we're doing a tech was pick second. Okay, so maybe they were. I thought they were not. Okay. Yeah.

"I think 28% of players that transferred that's wrong. It was D two D two players didn't end up at a at a D one school. But I did look it up, I believe it is 43% of transfers at the D one level don't end up in another D one institution. So that's 43% of players. That rough count just from the stuff that we know obviously we all have access to the entire transfer approval. But, you know, it's like cautionary tales and I hope schools are making sure that players are aware of it. They should be in a bad situation for you, but just know like, I think Jeff wall said it like, hey, the grass is the grass always looks greener because fertilizer BS. It's hilarious if Jeff falls who has benefited so much from the transfer portal that we say that, but I think the point kind of stance wait, repeat it again, repeat it again. The grass, the grass looks greener on the other side because it's fertilized with BS. Even use BS, you said the whole thing. Oh, of course. As you know, if you're just trying to make because I talked kind of over the last part of it, so I wanted to have it clearly stated. So that's interesting. Folks, self censor, which we love here. Speaking of transfers, let's talk about coaching transfers. As I like to call them. Yeah. Carly Tebow dodon is obviously a favorite of this podcast due to all your mystic size. She ends up getting her first head coaching job at Fairfield. And Fairfield just won the MAC correct this year. They did. They did. So she's coming into a good program. Getting a good chance. So I just want to shout out to Carly forgetting her first job. Yeah. I am so excited for her. And Nancy was up there, Nancy T Bo, and Eric and Mike were at the mystics training camp, and I know they're going to be making that trip up there. Wearing their red Fairfield stuff. So it's really fun. It's forgive me, guys. I'm not from the northeast. Where is Fairfield? Is it in Connecticut? I believe so, yeah. Okay, cool. I did not know that. It's in Fairfield, Connecticut. Does that make sense? There you go. I don't think I've ever been to Connecticut for as much as we talk about Connecticut. Maybe I'll go up there. It's like in the beach. Whatever. That's cool, man. I know where it was. When you go up there. Huh? Yeah, right. I'm so wrong, you know, hang out. I do think I'm wrong. I don't think Fairfield will in the MAC. I thought they did. I think that they did. They did. They went 19 one. Okay. So they did. 19 a month. And they were in the tournament. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Because on the men's side, I would say Peter, you won. Yes. And made that big run, yeah. So, sorry about the confusion there. Shouts to Carly. Also, obviously, if we're not, if I'm not talking about Miami, I'm talking about William and Mary. Aaron Dickerson Davis is the new one's basketball head coach at William and Mary. Yes. Seems like a great hire. You know more about her, so I want to get your take on her, but she's a northwestern grad, played at northwestern, spend time with Taos in Georgetown, most recently I wake forest. All those schools really make sense with William Mary, which is a very academic first school art, every school is academic first. But William Mary is like, the classroom is way more important than the court. And I think she can handle that if you've been at Georgetown and wake forest certainly. And she can help bring in recruits from this area. So I'm excited for it as a William Mary alum. Now I love her. And I think she has a tremendous opportunity there at William and Mary. She was at Georgetown when my daughter was being recruited by Georgetown. So she was on staff there. So we spent a lot of time talking to her and being on campus with her and she was just amazing. So when she went to wake forest, I know Jen Hoover very well. We played against each other in college. And so for her to go down there with Jen, I thought was really special. But now for her to be first year head coach, I'm super excited for her and congrats. That's going to be fun. It's going to be fun for you as an alum to get down there. I'm going to try to go to a lot of schools around here. But yeah, I'm definitely going to definitely go back to William and Mary. So yeah, shout out to her. I think there's a ton of other news that we can always get to. There's a ton of stuff that we leave on the table in these podcasts. I don't think I'm missing anything you got anything else, Christie that you want to yes. One of my really, it's hard to call, you know, players who you recruited and coached, it's hard to call them Friends, but that is a great friend of mine. Sarah Jenkins, who played at Riverdale baptist, a recruited her when I was assistant coach at Maryland for her freshman year and she decided to leave after a freshman season. And I took those two years off in between, had two babies, came back and I came back and coached at Georgetown, and then that's where Sarah had transferred. So I coached her her freshman year and her senior year. But she was assistant coach at Penn State before that she was also at Georgetown and Delaware, but now she is back as the head coach at Delaware. I'll talk about crying when Nas noman's name was being called when that news came out that she was going to do that. I mean, Natasha there, she took the head coaching position at Arizona state. She was at Delaware. They made that run to the tournament and lost in college park. But for her to be able to come back and coach at Delaware, I'm just extremely thrilled for her. I was talking to texting with moka, and she was this excited to all the DMV years or just over the top with the possibilities with Sarah Jenkins being there. Her dad, reverend John Jenkins, said, first baptist church of Glenn Arden, Maryland. Her mom, like I know their whole family, but he has a mega church in PG county, Maryland. They're going to have a lot of support for her because that's not too far up the road. It's kind of Delaware's kind of extended DMV. Yeah. We count it when it's when it's beneficial to us. Absolutely. That would be a matchup that we can go to. Down there, Williamsburg, CA matchup between William Mary and the Delaware. There you go. And then Della Don, maybe there too, because that's her. That's her. I thought it was a little surprised that she wasn't at the Maryland game, but I'm sure she had other things to do. She's working out, man. She looks good. She looks good. Whatever she was doing, it seems to have worked. But yeah. Jenkins. Shouts all the new coaches. It's really, really exciting time for all these new coaches taking over, especially all the ones we're near us. So yeah, that's all I got. That's it. This will be talking next week. Now, season won't be up Saturday next week. So maybe we'll do our season preview. I know. I can't wait for that. Once the rosters are narrowed down, unfortunately, I know it's going to be hard to do, but once that happens, we will bring that all to you, but we don't have to go home. "He's on the ballot for the second consecutive year. Yes. And listen, we can take, you know, you take Burton, you take kenza. You take a lot of these guys that are, they're just a mainstay. They're steady. They've done it. They've done so much on the racetrack. The thing about what Jeff's done off the racetrack to think about how he has been a leader in that garage area. For the Cup Series and now with the new driver's council, think about what he's doing here. Think about coming into your living room every Sunday on NBC sports and explaining it to you. I think for me, Jeff falls in that mini Parsons category, where he's just been the every man to everybody. Just that kind of gossip for sure. Yeah. No doubt. Don't come at me with that he didn't win that cooked championship. He's made a huge, huge difference. He is Hall of Fame driver in a Hall of Fame person. Yeah. Well, I'll just ask you, DJ. I mean, you're in the Hall of Fame. You're a NASCAR analyst, but you won the championship. I mean, Kyle just said it, Jeff Burton is now entered this second phase of his career. How much do you think that helps in terms of your candidacy in his candidate? It's not just about your driving career. We have people in there that never drove a lap. What difference did you make in the sport? And Jeff Burton has made a huge difference in a lot of ways in this sport and continues to this day to do that. Yes. He is certainly a candidate and a person that driver, but more as a person than anything else, because his driving credentials are there. That's great. But he's done so much more than that that you have to be considered. Yeah, and you look at everybody that's in the Hall of Fame, from the very first year, from Dale's group, all the way through. Those drivers not only performed, or those people, not only performed on the race track around the race track through the racetrack, but they moved the sport forward. They moved the sport to a different place. And we can go back through the whole thing, but Jeff Burton ticks that box every single time to move in the sport forward. All right, one of ten drivers on the modern era ballot Jeff Burton, two of them will be chosen for the 2023 NASCAR Hall of Fame. Wpf i mean we've kind of layered on a couple of them Maybe just an anecdote if there's when you want to share that represents the wto sometimes being multiracial in addition to getting that question who are i've got i've got it. I mean food is essential character in my life like it is it is like a main character and especially like being half jewish half age. Just racial. They saw you know they're just so many things that like. I feel like that are in that. Overlap in the two diagrams. Like i remember thanksgiving dinner. There were four turkeys one with a regular turkey. One was like josh. our turkey. You know was like vietnamese turkey. You know just like the food that gets put together like we'll be at at a family reunion and it will be like half catering from second avenue deli and half catering from chinatown. You know like an sta both worlds. Yes i totally thought you were going to. You're going to with like well. Guess what on. Christmas eve wrong. Same place. anyway it's finest restaurants exactly it the food. The food place. I think is where where things get. Most rich and most expressive of what racial identities can really mean multi cultural identities. And you know i. It's also fraught and complicated. We always know that. But i agree with you. It's like there are ways to actually make the table feel fuller and feel more like a buffet when you actually think of it that way so definitely. That's a. That's a positive. Wd after my yes yes. "Feel german. Didn't feel okay. Yeah you're gonna say does it need what do you. What do you think character does games come need to have an identity. That's different than the other showcases. During the year i would i would. I would actually agree that it didn't and that was brought up when we were watching a livestream as it did feel a little bit just like another one. I don't know if it does. Because i didn't track games calm until like the last couple of years. I don't know how long that have been going on. But you know you live. People can joke but you live in. The united states are certain ones you follow and certain ones you don't know until i got into my discord and we have a lot of people from all over the world and they were like no. You gotta watch this one in starting to watch it. I was like oh. This is impressive. But i will say they were little more eclectic a little bit more sophisticated Then e threes in the past. And so that wasn't. I'm not saying it wasn't here but it didn't feel as catchy this time so i don't know if it has to. I guess we'll just have to see another year but that's a good point man. That's that is very solid point that it does it need to tweak that i feel that it probably does. I just don't know how they go about it. I kind of i mean this is. let's say about me. What it does. I loved the way i feel. Like microsoft is kind of subtly acknowledging their console naming convention is hard referred to xbox one as gen eight You can play gen nine on gen. Ed like just say say your names are silly. Not helping jenn brand new and we're already dude we're way beyond you using a. Yeah yeah. I love that. You created this. You're not gonna get any better as funny. Yeah that's right. It's pretty wild. That cloud is gonna be on consoles. You can literally try games before you download them. Which as somebody who just moved to a new location and for the first time in my life i have data caps all of a sudden now very interested in these kinds of things because i never never experienced it before so i think that's really cool the idea that you can just pop into a game and try it out of your friends. Were playing something. Jump in. Hay playing halo discord. Come jump in with me. And you and i have had that exact issue christian where it's like. Okay let's play something. I'm gonna play this game. You wanna play it. Yeah okay. i'm downloading albeit. I'll talk to you in twenty minutes. You know whatever. It is even with fast internet speeds. I'm you know twenty eight gigs. Or whatever it is for the average game it takes awhile. It's great just that quality of life upgrade of being able to say. Oh i can just immediately start playing it. That's pretty cool pretty cool but yeah let me. Let's talk about some of the game announcements because there's a lot of really cool ones christian. Do you have any one or two games. That stuck out to you for me. This is the Dokie v show the. I don't know what anybody else saw. But i don't give you was announced before the show but it's the first time i've seen anything about it and oh my god. It's the only game i want. Sure you're gonna pull out marvel's midnight sons. I'm also super excited about that. I almost a super excited about that. But dokic dude was like this ray of sunshine that hit me i was like oh this game looks like no other game. It's beautiful positive. Silly wonderful joyous thing i i really hope that gives up to what it looks like it is anyway but yes midnight sons. We've talked about before three. There was supposed to be this for access. Marvel game announced that he three and then it didn't happen. It was like one of my most anticipated things to be three and then they never mentioned this. Evidently is that game haas super cool teric your east sound like you're sad about that too. Yeah i mean. Even though avengers didn't pan out i'm i'm abso- i'm always about like dwell. What's next you know things. Don't pan out all the time so to me seeing that i'm also they did state. It's nothing like x com. Which admittedly. I sort of wanted like 'cause i can't xm like that. I had to cut that review. Short chose a children. What was that one the chosen or whatever the the dlc. Yes thank you and then you. And so i was excited for that but you know what i'm cool with them saying. Hey we wanna do you know where we're gonna we got the license which number one is very cool that licenses going everywhere and there are outstanding company. So i you know. Sometimes you see coming here like you go and make whatever you can and you sort of hope later when they do something. i'm like. whoa wait all right. I'm going to say. I'm going to sit back and sort of you know. Pay atten- jealous so yeah and what a cool slice of the marvel universe you know vampire creatures of the night but also with a lot of mainstream wolverine in their doctor strange in there. There's a lot of but also you know ghostwriter and and blade. And i think you're gonna see i'm hoping for moon knight at some point in that game so it seems like they've a really cool way into the marvel universe so it's not just another marvel of injures game or whatever and i like i love the costume designs. That they seem to have gone with my question to you is.

I don't care to ever hear the song i just remember. The i think it's the title of it or it's one line of oops i did it again. I think brittany spears saying that years ago. My right i listen. I have not heard one. Maybe i have heard. I don't know. I don't know anything about britney spears all i can remember oops i did it again and i don't know what she was singing about and that song but i do know this so a lot of times my walk with god i turn around and say oops. I did it again. Just about the time i thought i had the victory i struggled and fell again just about the time i thought i had this concord because of all the great things that have happened between the last time and here and how many have you seen. God bless you and touch you touch your family touch your home touch your life and meet with you and prayer meetings and give you strength encouragement and lift you up only to reach the day when you did it again. You fell again broke down again. God help us faithlessness of the faithful. I've actually tried to reach out to a few kids that I was acquaintances with, like I wasn't tight, but I was close enough with and the conversations as cold as it was in class, and I'm like, that's why we haven't kept in touch. If there's moments where I go, I should reach out to Joe or Jake. And all I had on my Facebook and then it's just like, Oh, Well, you're on radio. It's like after all these years. What do you really have to talk about? Yeah, I mean, any. There's two people that I keep in touch with from high school friend Tom Urbino. He's in South Florida. You know, been friends with tell us I was 15. Go down. See my folks I tried, at least if I can't stop by for a minute, you drop a phone call. We'll text each other now and then, But times like my best buddy. He's like one of those guys that if he were to call me right now to say, Hey, Tonight around 2 A.m.. We need to meet over here on state road. 84 just talk, nor, you know, West on hiatus. We gotta go bury a body never going to be like, all right, don't down. Drive down there, help you out, buddy. And I know he'd do the same thing for me. So I mean, he's like that. Then my other friend from another school up in New York are outside of New York, Connecticut, Roger Bennett. And then you know, the friendship lasted what was down in Florida. You will come down US vacations, I would go up and the winner is just gonna play hockey on the pond. So Rogers that guy, So Tom and Roger were like my two buddies that to this day would do anything for Outside of that, there ain't a girl that I went to high school with. There's nobody that I would want to stay in touch with, and I'm sure they feel the same way about me. But it's just like there's nobody here like, you know all the reunions. I've missed every single one of them because they go The person I want to talk to you. I still do this tongue outside that. That's my things. Facebook's kind of ruin the idea of a reunion because I can see what people are up to our unlinked and all their job updates. I'm like, I don't need to see you ever again. There's another guy, Steve Abrams. I'm friends with him, but I mean, he lived here for a little bit. We hung out and we'd go to have breakfast with stuff like that. But he moved out of the area again. So I don't think my high school classes even ever brought up a re union. It's just crickets are ours fell apart. We tried to organize a 10 year and System. Not enough people where they wind up having to Gary's, You know, crab shacks. Lot of value. Have the little boy, you know, like, all right, we've we've been out of high school 25 years. Surely we're not successful enough that we could do it like to be here, Mar some boy Beach. You gotta go to Gary's Crab shack. Nothing. There is everything but You know, they would go to some high school hang out that we used to go to, like. Hey, let's go over here for a happy l you know, they'll do that played out the whole weekend. I'm on all the email chains. We're going to rent a pavilion at C B. Smith Park and Fort Lauderdale. Now going that sounds far like this.
