I wanna like North Carolina and the reason because I think eventually light bulbs going on. Here's my concern about North Carolina North Carolina have anyone who makes a play for someone else. Now think about that Kobe easier for anyone Koby white still learning the play that position. He's probably Kenny Williams is he make the game easier for anyone. And like the one thing about Virginia Tech is Virginia Tech those guys make plays for each other. Are they paying touches on a bounce? And they get the ball move defense transitional important, obviously have blacks, you get some foul trouble. They're in trouble. Get what I'm going to switch up. I'm gonna go with. Yup. Know. Take on the road at center. When you went everywhere. I mean, that's you have sterling record not exactly, but I wanna Dino. So you're going Virginia Tech on Monday night. "Yeah, it's going to be a crazy environment. Now on the flip side. You know, I look at Auburn, and there's one they got take better care of the ball. Didn't take care of the ball against ole miss. They gotta take better care of the ball. That's really they got rebound. The defensive end. And I think the PJ Washington could be a big factor in this game watch for John Calipari to play Nick Richards, more maybe than we traveled in this game. They need a rim protector in this game. Because it is slashing which gives them. A little bit of that. And then Johnson Palley hero. I mean like. Like, you just let that do play. I mean, he's gonna make some shots committed. But you gotta let them play. But I think the spear a really good game. I'm gonna call the upset. I'm gonna call Kentucky road and winning this game. And that's hard. Because I I'm a big Harper fan. I just I thought that at times when I saw the Auburn against ole miss that they're so reliant on three point shot. And you gotta believe that Kentucky's gonna make a serious commitment to take that away the better job garden three against Georgia. I'm gonna see if they can do that to games in Virginia at Duke, you're going to be down there game day Cam, you gotta wait watch your show, you gotta wait. Okay. So lot. But I'll tell you what this just remember this one thing. I would have said that Duke has a as a great opportunity in this game. I've sit home Cameron Syam Lampson RJ Barrick radish. How did how did you MBC? Beat virginia. Well, paying attention. Virginia was missing the the most important player Andrei hotter. All right. So you use for not an excuse just saying that sometimes it's true. Sometimes teams have stinkers like I just said a moment ago and they had one without the Andrei hunt. That's good. But the ball pressure c I one of my favorite lives ball pressure by time. So with trae Jones in the game that ball pressure potentially could have bought a little bit of time for due to eliminate all that screens and the move or blocker and pushed Virginia out one step further. Which would what you in BC did without the Andrey hunter without him. You don't have that same ball pressure. So thou Virginia's gonna probably be up to get in a little bit better flow for the game. And because of that, and because of their -bility to double the post, and because they're -bility of not turning the basketball over and because of the way that they're shooting the ball and more guys that can score. Now, I'm going to say it's forty eight at last fifty one and I'm going to save that maybe Virginia gonna win a game. You have to stick around on. I'm unbelie. Eveb oil on Saturday. The most Seth Greenberg ever. I can't pick it 'cause you're gonna have to watch game day on Saturday. I wanted said was five minutes later, you're basically picking the gag. I could shake I'm not gonna let you can't change. That's true. This way I legitimately. I have so much respect for Tony about it. I love how they play. I love that. They have more guys that are contributing. I love key Clark. As a difference Baker. They're more fun. Yeah. That place is going to have scored eighty points times. I think they did it like twice less for years. That place is gonna be rocketing. One thing you got nowhere trae out. This is a funny story, you know, anytime coach K's backs against a wall of it. He's going to be some causes. He's creating they're gonna hold sign that the Duke the night before to game or he's going to start some soccer player that's gonna come in and foul someone every single time, you know, to get everyone fired up or you know, like they had to Chris Chris Paul game this going to be something. Besides just trae being out to create a cause to create a unity to try to get those guys even more of a frenzy. Right. I don't know what that is. But I was thinking basketball's emotional game. I'm big on emotion playing. But we'll see what is going to be full on game days there. They they'll tip. It's inevitably do game yet. No, no. We're just talking about Virginia don't know without. Carolina. You know, very Bill game..

"Hopefully, it'll be fun by the end of the night that games on Tuesday at the Petersen events center and beyond ESPN before that game though, you got one at Syracuse on Saturday talk about Dr Jekyll mister Hyde. Syracuse lost attack last weekend. It didn't look good doing it at home. And then they go to do and get a win at Duke. So I say that because he's a tech grad, and he's a little salt. Back down to earth last night in a big way. Thanks for joining us. We appreciate it have the carrier dole on Saturday. And obviously next Tuesday against you, all the modern. I appreciate it guys. Thanks coach. Thank you. Cable joining us piss off to a really good start in the middle of that. ACC teams are battling to see who's going to be in the upper echelon. You wanna make some picks? I guess you wanna ask me who's going to win. Don't take it to the Bank. This is automatic ever. Right. You talked about how deep the big ten is. So let's start there. And let's start with Michigan team that you know, you would think would ascend to the number one spot in the country if they're able to get this win against Wisconsin noon on Saturday on ESPN. I don't like the way Wisconsin's plan right people figured him out a little bit. I think they play half one on one. So they don't double take away his passing ability and make him score over people with the mindset that he can't beat us trice has been able to shoot the ball. Well, they just have not been as consistent and they've had to hazardous fifteen sixteen points. You're not beat Michigan doing that. I think testses ability to defend what I wanted to and the block and I look at this Michigan team. They get better every time. I watch him. You know, we could go it was pool just knocking down every jumper. He's playing at a high high high level. I mean testy right now the other. It was great. He's terrific ball screen defender. He's a very good rim protector. And then you got what seats the year little guy to me? Save your Simpson. His ability to defend the ball and Austrade Charles Matthews. The ability to take a wing player off out of the game. So I I like Michigan Michigan. I think there's something off right now for this Wisconsin, she is due for a stinker because I don't think I've had someone do I because they haven't had one. Does it say always? Everybody has one somewhere. I got a question the middle of the football season. Because now you walk around and say Alabama's do for stinger. But no coach is going to go into a game and say boy, we're really do for a stinker. That's not the coaching mentality. It's the bitter fan mentality that I have. And when I see a team like bittered as Michigan's hadn't had a bad game. I can't remember them having a bag in center have is is a little bit of depth issue there developing their debt John's kids coming nobody goes undefeated this from guy who said the Vata was going undefeated the candy. I think they're going to be Wisconsin. Okay. I didn't say it every game. They win. It was contin this weekend Kentucky and Alban four log on ESPN offer fighting Bruce Pearl's I am just because at your guy pearls my guys. So I'm going to go with Pearl ago. We talking about teams that are playing better. I didn't get talkies plan better right now. Don't you think? Yeah. They are playing better and Hague's has been absolutely terrific, actually, doesn't defend he disrupts. He's he's got a little bit of trae Jones aid your Simpson Jordan bone in them. And that he can really dominate the basketball. I look at this game. Here's things to watch one. Watch matchup. Jarrett hop ration hates Jared, hopper. You. Actually have the discipline to meet Jared hopper early enough and get him under control keep them out link is when he gets into lane he keeps his dribble live, and he finds someone for an open three then defensive transition, Ken Kentucky, get back set their defense and locate rice bran because Bryce Brown if you don't locate him, it's advanced pass and quick three. They advanced Ables quick as any team in the country. And then conducts it's to take care of the basketball because at times, they turned it over, you know, that you know, the fight and Bruce Pearl's in that environment home game..

"But I wanna guys that had experienced a one guy. Is that I felt like had personality that could really develop because I knew that right away. We weren't going to go in and get the ready made prose, you know. Like when I was in Oklahoma. We were able to recruit and and get Blake Griffin. I mean, he was a pro when he walked in that we help them. Yeah. But he was already. I mean, there's some guys that are like that like Bagley and Carter and Tatum. These guys. I knew we had to develop. And so I wanna guys that I felt like that. We're really good at that. And then I wanna guys man that I could trust what the environment of of, you know, the climate of college basketball right now, I wanna guys man where I could lay my head down every night on the pillow and not have to worry about what's been done or has something been compromised. And so that's where it came. I was very fortunate to keep Jason Richards and to keep Brian Regan and also our strength coach, Gary Christopher they've been so great for us because they know this place read it, no it, and so it's it's it's been a really good group of men together. And and and I think we work very well together guys doing great job. I I gotta ask I mean like this big game going on in in Cameron this this weekend. And you had to say you Chen success that Duke sat over the last few years when you look at that team you play next week, and you see those young guys and you see sign and Cam and RJ and. Obviously trade. What do you think? I mean like as you're watching them, forget take take your preparing for for Duke hat off. Like when you see that thing emerging, what goes through your mind, cause I mean, you gotta feel a part of you, obviously that is part of them. What what goes through your mind? I'm happy for for them, you know, for each individual kid because you get to know him during the recruiting process, you know, with RJ in RJ's family. You know, I it was a lot of time on the phone with RJ his dad, you get to know him. You spend time with them you know, with with with Zion. I wasn't the point person for Zion or for Cameron. But I was I was part of it. So you know, you go seem you get to know their families with trae. I I've known trae since I think he was in like sixth grade, you know, one of the times we went to go see ties coaching. I when we were recruiting ties we went and saw trae play football game. And so I feel like I've known him forever. And I'm just I'm so incredibly happy for them each of them individually because I knew what their dream was playing college basketball and. They've all been terrific. I mean, not good. They've been really really good and to see how well they fit together. I'm I'm happy for coach. I know how excited he was. You know, when I was there last year when we were able to put that class together, and you know, John, and they did an amazing job, you know, of of of recruiting along with coach into see it comes together and to see them play. So well, especially when they've been healthy, they are incredibly talented. You know, they play really really hard. The freshmen have an amazing spirit about them. You know, they they have a competitiveness and their winters. And then, you know, it's it's really cool. I mean, it probably won't be next Tuesday. But it's really cool to see how well Jack y has played and you know, for him to gotten an opportunity, and you know, I know he's coming off a tough one. But he's played really well this year to see Bolden have some spots. And so look Duke. Will always hold a special place in my heart. It's my alma mater. You know, I tell people I committed to do when I was seventeen years old, and it's seventeen I believe in coach and forty three now forty three I swear by. And you know, it's it's it's they've done in the mazing job. They're an amazing team. And and you know, it's it's fun watching them it won't be fun coaching against them. But it's fun watching them..

"They select advanced the crews and everyone's more concerned with satisfying the committee and JD Collins, then just doing what's right? I like that thing could so easily, you know, been resolved. I mean, I'm I'm watching it. And I'm literally I'm bouncing back and forth. And I got a text message something you gotta see this. I went back to that game. I divide a back, and I'm like on like this is a joke. Like, this is so easily resolved this. Hey, you don't think this happened between? Rick Barnes, and and Dean Smith. You don't think this happened between Lou carnesecca and John Thompson? You don't think this happened? You know, numerous times to me with different coaches. It's real simple bring the two together. Say you know, what you guys act like a budgets? I cleaned up your stuff you coach your team. You know, Chris you coach your team go back your best. Let's go next guy comes outta line. I'm lacking we'll hold is over. Hopefully, this is sort of a good learning moment as we moved about the rest of the year to say. It's not like fishy should be held the guy came in gotta came in. And gave the final Tate. I'll give you funny or one when these guys are walking act the tunnel together. And all right. Daddy, frank. Yeah. They both talk to both guys today. They both look at each other which is happened right for sure. And then like they almost ended up watching the game together. But I think that other official that that gave him the second t probably step this overstep the sound suspended again. I don't know about that. Because maybe he's just following the directive as you said by the by the officiating course, winter lead official. Luckily, fischel handle it. If that's in the letter of the law in terms of what he is supposed to do that second. You got the technical. Commonsense is different than. Handbook why are you giving him the second tactical? I mean, you see Danny Hurley extending his arm out to Frank. Why are you coming in and giving you gave the technical right? You. All right. If you want to administer the letter law, you gave the why are you giving a second technical? Let's question I'm sure he's going to have to answer. Yeah. I don't wanna go as far as to say should be suspended yet question. What eventually we got hold somebody ficials accountable. And you think we're getting to that point right now where I don't know. I question if if a coach made an egregious decision like that would he be held accountable. If a player depends on who the coach and agreed you say that. Iraq. All right. We're gonna take a quick break. When we come back. Jeff Capel is to join us. He's got pit moving in the right direction here very young team. They got a big win against Florida state with that catapult them into the top half of the ACC. We'll talk with him about what he's going to do the rest of the year. Don't go anywhere. Courtside with Greenberg dockets back and no dockets these battling winter storm Harper. And it's probably connecting through Chicago or something right now. It's not easy. Now, we're talking about was the Oakland zoo appears back that was a nice little homecourt advantage. You guys had the other night. It was all some are fans have been great all year. "You've got to own your home court, and that's going to be the key if someone and seats them, and if you don't own your home court, you gotta go out and get big road wins in Kansas state has done that let's face it the last they've got a couple of Goodwin's on the road and clean win at Hilton. And they've got a place in the actor on of doom where I wasn't so good. We're finding Frank Martin's about aways undefeated in the SEC. And maybe the hardest thing do get your team back after slow start. But if you go to the lap, it's hard to win a little app. I mean, it really is. And they've got good players. Barry Browns making shots again. That's really Chris. That's really pulled as he have a lot of pressure off him. Now. The wait is back is that sort of what it is. Wade is a connector and wait has versatility about him. But just as a team, you know, they're going to defend as a team they improved significantly -fensive Leona less. We can have Jalen fishers out for TCU. No, he's got not only for the polar. He's not even going to be a peaceful you anymore, which is crazy. So something going on there. That kills TCU like they would have had a shot at Samuel's kid. The freshman. Big kid is coming along Bain can really make shots. They've got Robinsons a nice player is very wide open. But that that's a shock because that kid is is a guy that makes other people better Fisher. I still say Kansas number one that your point about fog Allen. But to I've said this if you take a look as bouquet off of that team at the very beginning of the year. He's not there. He's not gonna play this year. And you you show me what they've got. Anyways. I still say Kansas is as good as anybody else on fourteen in a row. You got knock them off to prevent fifteen back court datsuns played really well for Kansas. He can defend any concil Tate these quick and he's toughens. He's a mistake. Free type guy quitting. Bribes hasn't shot at well will Gerald Vic when he's good is. He's mercurial. Yeah. What does that word mercurial? Good word. I throw that every now and then make chefs each. Numbers. If you throw in a word for Georgia Tech people daily. What was what is that? Those are ladder suppression some numbers, but you know, you you look in. When you when you see see this time of the year. It's it's just it. It's an interesting time of the year right now for you know, for college, but everybody in the big twelve three Kansas and Texas Tech at four in one. But then everybody else's three two or two and three other than West Virginia. Bob, cousins, Owen five we hugging. Seattle only five west. But yes, that's their point guard the guard plays horrendous cannot phase out. They look you lost Baxter miles, and you lost John Carter, and it really really urgent tell you to league. That's couple of teams that are interestingly big ten big ten Maryland Utah. We're not talking about Maryland barrels five and one. I mean, brutal Fernando Jalen spent the plan, really. Well, Anthony Cowan's has been terrific Iwa. I will with the basic win playing without Tyler cook. That's a big time win. I was getting better. They were my sleeper team last year huge game for Nebraska tonight. Huge game for them against Michigan state because they started the year one and three in conference play. And he started thinking. Is a possible for for Nebraska to be a disappointment in basketball. You know, they've been a disappointment football for many years, but when show. Last year. No expectation of basketball, they do now because they look I say Roby's can I call him their x factor because he can play multiple positions in fan multiple position..

"And how he didn't get there. We didn't get the call against the he didn't get the call. And it looks the officially threw his hands up then he just turned around and got the ball and drilled a three pointer from the corner. His range is the they're backward is is under appreciated for sure. You know? And I think the funny thing is that people like if you can't appreciate what they've done and how they're playing. I'm not sure what the numbers you probably know that they haven't lost a an ACC road game in to us. Which is why it's in two years Duke hasn't won in a regular season in forever. And this is a big reason why because Virginia's been so dominant over the last few. I mean, like, I mean forty seven and three, and I just want to let everyone know none of those forty seven or against me. No, no, plenty beforehand. How what was your record against greenery three against Tony Bennett was three three and three? Okay. Three bed. So we're gonna talk a lot of ACC day. It's not better guys forty seven and three and you tell me three three that's guy. And you tell me that that was before you say man that smart was before this was the only team that I beat right? What was your record against Georgia Tech? I don't know if it was really good. Really don't even want to look back at the record books. It's it was really good. You know, I may have gave was doing his work. He spouted out. It was. It was my my record against Georgia Tech. Is there a very in relation to the number of first round draft choices they have a very little time on the flats during a very volatile time. Why don't want to donors and a lot of some of those those guys. Yes. Some of those one dollars. You know, didn't quite have it mentally together. What was my record accurate attack? You're really good attack. Again that was asking. Senator days again, they'll days that sometimes you wanna forget my toughest was my man. What what was the guy the curly Causey? I got causing once though from the tail of the Bumblebee, oh, he did just got you that that lasts second. We got cable later on in the show two things are going very well a pit they got a very young team. And it just highlighted when they beat Florida state the other day, I it's impossible Louisville in Louisville who got a big win last night too. So it's impossible to figure out not only I think a lot of these conferences right now it's impossible to figure out the big twelve is another one twelve some what a great win last night. I stayed. I was really good. They're guard play. He's gotta figure out a substitute. Sometimes they're not very good. This is well. There are four guard offense to play with sprint offense. Cameron Lord came back, then he's gonna get injured. Michael Jacobson was good last night. Texas Tech at times struggled scoring it. But Lee plays heart. It's hard to win on the road. But you know, you see some stuff going on right now. Ole miss at a great win against Mississippi State. And then LSU comes who's really talented, by the way, really talented LSU comes in and beat ole miss, you know, in Oxford. So look place different animal, man. I'm just telling you that. You're so familiar with your opponent. You know what you're giving. You know, what you're taking away. It's it's it's a different animal. And right now, we look look had to stay Ken states. They different that while they get the weight back. You know, they they're getting healthy. As you marry Brown. And. Yeah, Oklahoma was awful. They were bad and get Oklahoma been consistent home fending. Yeah. But, you know, here's the here's the issue with Oklahoma. This is this is the challenge for going with the field. You wanna go with the field? But for the field to win. You can't lose home games because Kansas not gonna lose home games. They have they had the most passionate best home court league. Now, Texas Tech has a similar home court. That's why that was this morning. I was stayed as a shot because they got that great home court. They've lost games at home. So to beat Kansas..

"I like O'Connell against Virginia because he can really shoot the ball because Virginia's probably gonna doubles Islaim black big debate. So when that ball comes out of that thing, you need Gaza could make shots. I would drive Alex O'Connell on the floor to throw the ball at two or catch on a second pass that I would go war. So I I would I would look if RJ barricades defensive rebound he's busting out if Zion waves to get the defensive rebound run, he's busting. That's just the way it is. But. Otherwise on a may check gets bottle. Let him advance past the ball up the floor. You also you gotta have your guys. I Jack White's not going to have a shooting game. Like you had on Monday night where it was just miserable against Syracuse, very often. Right. So those ROY factor killing those guys he's a role player. He's gonna he's gonna hit shop too, many minutes, though, is that what Jack white in his role was really good. When Jack white when you change is wrong. And that's why you're point. It's just different. That's why when I went out right Cam reddish role changed. He was much more relaxed. He was freed up. He so he was more aggressive. I he became a volume shooter. Now, here's the interesting thing Zion. Williamson doesn't play against Florida state, basically, right Duke wins. Yep. Trey Jones doesn't play against circus. The night Duke loses, and that's why I've been saying since champions classic. The most important dude on this team is trading. And and also the ability to adjust in game. Now, do you think because so many of these stars? And we talked about it on Monday night and j will made up a good point. He said, look, no one's gonna cry for Duke. They still have the first and second chances. No one's gonna cry for him. But freshman adjusting in game when you lose your leader. Even if he's a freshman point guard, you lose your leader that's tough to do isn't it in the middle of the game. It's tough to do. I mean the other thing that made the toughest zone because you lose your dad's distributor out again. You put your RJ airplane at the point was that a time. He's in the middle of the floor easy to defend in that spot. So playing gets zone not having Cam reddish. So you lose two key guys, you know, made that difficult and in luck, you gotta give Syracuse Thais battle mates place. Man. I mean. Pasco chook. What pass that dude? I mean had like seventeen eighteen rebound and played off penetration. And things of that nature. The thing that concerns me though. And I guess can you turn people over without trae Jones because they only they were outscored in transition the second half twenty four to twelve they only had one steal in the second half to now reddish is going to help that 'cause reddish off the ball with his length. He can Knox and passes away will initiate some things. I almost put I'd start O'Connell. And I'd put reddish on the ball. Let him use his land. Try to get some deflections and get him in transition. You don't you can cross match in terms of what you're doing defensively. And by putting reddish on the ball. Maybe you can get some things, you know, by pressuring the ball with his length that you got from Joan one final thing on Virginia's Cal guy. Underrated. You know, we talked last week about the the midseason wouldn't award watchlist twenty five players strong. He's not on that list. Doesn't say he wouldn't be added to a future. Watch list or that he couldn't win the award. But he's not a part of that list. And yet every time I do watch Virginia. I do have Regina highlight. He's the guy. He's always hitting shots mean he's been so for that he tied drama both for tight Roma's as under John tied, Rome. They I think that would they have they had like eleven threes in the first half and he scored assisted on all of them. I mean that's joke that left handed hook pass through the guy that was sick..

"It's one of my favorite things when I was coaching and just by pressuring the ball now when you're guarding that mover blocker action. All right. You're pushing that thing just a step further out maybe a little bit longer pass, which gives you chance to recover back without trae Jones. Are they going to get that same ball pressure to disrupt the timing of the Virginia offense, and that's going to be interesting. And that's a big loss for one of the things about GE have watches year. Coach. Yes, they're going to have games when they're winning fifty one to forty six. You know what I'm saying? But it seems like they're they're scoring more. Seems like it's a little bit more of an offense that can be a little bit more explosive. They're never gonna wanna get up and down the court like some of these fast pace offense. But it does seem like they're a little bit more explosive this year than they have can make place more guys that can score. I mean, that's really what it comes down to. They have more guys that they have a Braxton Q come off the bench and get twenty had that guy. You know, they've got the Andrea hundred who's compla- three compla- four even go small. He could play five and be hybrid. Who's a tough match-up Mamadee Keith day gives them a little bit more length. He's playing quality minutes and starting he got key Clark made three threes last against Virginia Tech. They've got more guys who can make place and they will run on opportunity off a steel which they get steals because they're in those gaps, defensely if you try to drive it too hard on them, they're gonna get a steal. And that's why you know goes to my thing we talked the other day, I really believe in my if I was coach K, I would not put Barrett at the point guard. I would bring it either. Jordan gold wire I'd bring in Alex O'Connell. And then everyone else came reddish RJ Barrett and Zay Williamson. And and everyone else that comes in net game, you're just remaining in your same role because what's the best things? Silence. In does. Here's a quiz view. Chris qatar. What's the best thing? RJ barrett. Does that start with our what's the best thing? RJ back to me. The best thing that all those guys do is they create turnovers and they get out on the break and they score easy. Buckets transition. Yeah. Like RJ Barrett. He's got finishes and trains for sure. He's the guy you advance past dooney slashes and gets to the language and fashioned three point play. He's the guy that coming off baseline bump curls newses aside unsettled situations, they seem to be great in those situation. And so now have you put him at the point? You know, what happens who's he passes to? So like, you know, if you decide to play RJ Barra at the point you're making yourself week or two positions. You don't have the same guy you're hitting the head to in transition. And and you know, it's. Disappoint you. You're making yourself weaker at at the point guard position. So why wouldn't you just keep everyone where they're all? Right now words, you know, what whomever they decide to play up front, and then say, you know, what we're playing Virginia Kidd Clark pressures the ball lucky was a good job. But it's not like they're running and jumping in precedent than I run pack line. So you have a playmaker place starter. And then everyone else way your advantages. If you get a stop you. You're hitting ahead with more open space plan ahead of the defense, and you know to RJ baron to design into Cam. That's how much now that coach K's at five days. I mean you lose trae on Monday. And now you've got five days to plan for Virginia coming in. So how much does that benefit him that doesn't have two or three days? He's got five days to your point to to get Cam reddish back from these signals. Get him back close to one hundred percent. And then work a whole new thought process without your point guard to run the whole show. Yeah. And that's what I'm saying to make that transition in these four days easier to keep everyone else is supposed to be gold wire knows what he was the point guard sodas, you know, Connell, it's a little bit different..

"And I it's with new guys like they're they're three perimeter players are guys that he took late and two of them have been tremendous. And I'm referring to Xavier Johnson and trae mcgown's those two are averaging thirty. One points a game and have just been awesome for Jeff capable. And the other freshmen I was referring to is is Mr Tony. And he's from Huntsville, Alabama, he's averaging ten points a game. So there's three perimeter players that really have helped that basketball team. And I think Jeff Capel a really good job with them. So far the other guy that I would mention and he's done a fantastic job. I think he's been a really good head coach for a long time. And always was surprised that he didn't get more high major attention is all miss head coach Kermit Davis. He was awesome at middle. Tennessee had them beaten SAT's SEC teams regularly. And now he's in the the the SEC conference. And he's still doing it. You know, he beat Auburn last week. He beat Mississippi State the rival on their thirteen and two they have wins over Baylor beat Vanderbilt three, and this you see conference. I think the job that he has done has been absolutely tremendous andbranch has been awesome for them more than seventeen points a game. But there's also been some freshmen that he's added that have really helped them like Blake Hanson in cagey boffin both of those guys are playing significant minutes for him. But I I would say the Jeff capable and in Kermit Davis would probably do to others that really stick out in my mind that. Like Chris Mack are having success early on. Yeah. I have an I'm certainly excited to see these coaches can get their teams to tournaments. Yeah. I mean, I think that all three of those teams if the season ended now would be in the NCAA tournament fielding Louisville has those two top fifteen wins ole miss with beating Auburn and Mississippi State as to fifteen wins. Pittsburgh now has a top twelve win certainly all right there and in the conversation. So it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. So Conrad I appreciate you taking the time out and jumping on the podcast and help guide this conversation and walking through some of these topics anytime. "Lee and a job he did there i mean he's a close friend of mentor somebody that i'll lean on the rest of my career that being said you know i think you have to coach your team in a in a way that fits your personality so you know i told them i said there will be some changes and not just basketball wise but the way we do things but a lot of it was just letting them know you know yes you've known me as an assistant coach that's going to be different as a head coach but i think you know the most important thing is every guy in that room those that i care about them not just the basketball player but as a person and a human being and i think when gaas know that you love them you care about them and you're concerned about their development off the floor as much as you on the floor i think they'll respect you they listen to you and and they'll follow you your place in a guy joe dooley that you worked for for five seasons what's the best memory you have working for joe dooley i think just a consistent work ethic and the the enjoyment of process of the game basketball you know coming out of florida state with coats hamilton you know obviously there were massive focus in recruiting and relationships and and we always talked about you know the next group and that was really what i thought about even even when i was video coordinator was man i can't wait to recruit recruit recruit and you know with coach field to be honest with you such a short window here it was my first time as an assistant i was really just kinda learning how to do my job as an assistant coach to be totally frank so with coach dooley you know he really taught me to joy practice and joy breaking down film you know to learn as much as i could the technical aspects of the game you know you can't always be on the road you can't always be retreating i mean i like to do that you know that that kind of comes naturally to me but it was with him you know hey let's enjoy practice let's really get after it you know every day is is a battle in a good way in a.

"Absolutely worthy of being in the ring with that program and you know that's a really really good job and it's also an intriguing job perhaps a unique job in that brian snow had this tweet yesterday and i did not realize this and i'm not gonna be able to pull it up in time it's something like thirty two or thirty four total career wins for xavier coaches dating back to gillan in the mid nineteen eighties before those coaches got this job so if you take the six coaches and i guess the next one will be seven that took xavier all of their combined career wins at the time they got this job is thirty four and it was only gillan and skip prosser i believe that had no mada and prosser that gillan had not been a division one coach so modern prosser were the only ones that had short time had come over from butler that's an incredible thing and yet amazingly like gillan shawn miller thad matta skip prosser chris mack all these guys became name coaches after they left xavier it speaks to obviously their ability but it also speaks deserve you're in this weird sort of situation that school is in i was talking to a coach about a week ago when it was basically like there was just scuttle but that max gonna take right there's no chance he's not going to do this and then it became like well who's gonna take this job and all that and the sentiment was abeer is oh that program kind of just runs itself which no program truly truly does i point to billy gillespie kentucky as a prime example but when you look at xavier and the coaches it's hired and how well it's been able to maintain relevance it is interesting but the reason why this is different is that it's in the big east and i actually think you can win a national championship xavier i think the road to get there is a little bit bumpier and tougher than it is at louisville if all sanctions are removed by mac had a great thing going there xavier he could've stayed there if he wanted really for as long as he wanted made great money obviously money that he could again this is this is generational money still we're talking millions of dollars.
