My first game was at least field and seventy four and we won that game by three points. And my dad taught me to be an alabama fan. And i've been through the bad years. I've been two good years and i can only imagine nick sabin looking at you know obviously with our history with kickers. I'm just on that. One out there kickers but it is on multiple levels. I mean i was a college. Scholarship athletes and we had to practice twice a day and it was terrible. I remember not having enough money when they domino's delivered pizzas to the dorm. Paul finebaum how you doing. I am oh great. I'm originally from brandon mississippi. I went to school at millsaps. College just earns three school and my question allocated merican players said. Oh forget the power five. Be going back to where. We came from from abc news. How would the payment go with us. You know to really interesting question John because we've we've seen a little bit of this. I mean there was a couple years ago. A big time player. Who did that basketball. But i wouldn't rule that out Especially when you have coaches in not only legendary coaches at various places but now dion sanders. And i think you'll see more. Eddie george I think these are significant moment. for for heb's mystifying mom. My operational definition of race is human at mississippi. Something different but lease is human. When you start doing that racist hyun go to ethnicity. I think that's a really wise way of looking at it. I i appreciate you sharing. I grew up in mississippi. Where i've heard brandon. What part of the state is it. N. o. brenda's in the central part of mississippi thirteen miles east of jackson. Okay well sure. I played at pearl highschool. I do know that. Yeah i mean. I saw time in. Mississippi grew up in memphis so It was it was next next door neighbors and fame. I went to my harry and vanderbilt and got my doctorate in neuroscience. Really who thousand one. You had a fantastic vandy graduated in my house. So oh that's great. But i love your show all come yell and scream i come to talk facts and i thank you for what you're doing. Well i can't thank you for calling you you've You've been fantastic and you try us again sometime. John thank you very much. Lift a fine mom steve. Ace yes as a matter of fraternity brother omega psi size. Really that's twenty steven a. And i were texting saturday night right before he He was He was he was at. Where was it either phoenix early. I can't remember. we guardsmen. la la. I think he he said. I love to go to la. But i don't want to get well i I think the world of him. We've been friends since. I made the switch. Dsp and and he's been. He's been a great help to me. let's last name. I say this lasting be college football community me still on the fan for sixty only squirrel because and i'll say this because i played in division three middle linebacker because it's too much work for the players. Somebody's gonna get hurt just like happening. You're right now. So keep it at the little six max but that's my i'm gone. Thank you hope you call again. This was fantastic. Throwing enjoyed it. Thank you you be well to james next. Who is on the air. Hello james paul. Did i hear you take a stand for personal freedom. I did you sure those people that i mean. Better watch out this culture stuff. That's going around. You know. I am really not overly concerned but I appreciate you you warning me. Well i'm you know i'm looking out for you. Here's what we all knew when this corona virus got kicked off back in march two thousand and excuse me twenty nineteen okay and everything was being. Shut down those that were at the greatest risk and lost their life where people with underlying conditions and my career. Your correct i the overwhelming majority. Let's say ninety percent. I think it was great in that. But ninety percent that didn't have underlying conditions survived. Okay that's what we didn't get other words. That's not what was put out in the news media as And i also heard you get in into bus and run over the news media somewhat earlier. I mean i'm on the bus. We okay and both of those points personal freedom and riding over the media with the bus. Well i've been reluctant on that. Because i but really the the last couple years have done the end and when i watched the news. I'm not i mean there are opinion shows james and then there is. The news can't watch the news anymore because it's too driven by ideology. I understand that now. Let's let's look at some science for a second Years truly used to part of my income was connected to review and the less column scientific articles. All right now. I don't have my doctorate in neurology. However today i'm listening to the radio and the npr and the report was and i think this was going on in africa but basically the the article some of the article. The doctor that was talking was saying individuals that have underlying conditions. Might wanna pump the brakes taken this so-called safe and effective vaccine people that also at greatest risk for the so-called var's so what is the point. Paul i look at another article on yahoo and i don't believe everything i see on the internet but at that's a lie then where do the last stop. But i saw last week where individuals that we're taking this vaccine in israel and elsewhere are still coming down with this virus so what is the point is not well. james say affected part of the most again. This is The the race for the virus was two fold. I mean excuse me for the vaccine was two. Fold you the first part we. We know what the theory was there but the second part was to get the economy back in shape and you know so so you can't you can't talk about one without the other well paul. I'm not sure what i measure for. The economy is were. There's people out of work getting paid a greater income to stay out of work and stay home or if it's the stock market running completely You know go nuts and we cannot continue to have where we're loaning money at zero percent interest rate because the biggest bar in this country is federal government. Sure won't do anything bad. I mean it's it's all insane it's nuts. Something's gotta take place. And i don't think there's a human being walking on this earth today that has enough clout and backbone to say enough is enough well. The former treasury secretary said it and he got shut down pretty quickly. It exactly. And i mean i've even been censored on the paul finebaum show. Can you imagine that well. You shouldn't have been okay. I rather you hang in there. I've enjoyed it. It's always my pleasure and You know oh by the way. I heard you also say that florida was going to beat georgia. This year. waterbed under the influence did i. I mean. I thought i heard you say that on this program. It's entirely possible that i i could have My i have not. I do not go whichever way the wind blowing. No i have to To the criticism of many well. I'm going to ask you now. i'm a..

"Point. Nine my game on point off as down the line. Ashdown low now. Well i think when you're when you're looking at mississippi state baseball it. It's the one product. I think out of mississippi state that you've been able to consistently Understand that there's a chance of winning a championship year. And i think that's the reason that you have a massive stadium. Their duty noble I think that's the reason that you're bringing fourteen fifteen thousand fans into a ball game setting records from an attendance standpoint. I think that's why you're going to have so many people at the the venue omaha. I think the the biggest thing that you have here is not just the baseball players. It's the community in starkville and in mississippi and the surrounding area that just continues to support this club. No matter where they're playing chatting with. Jeff brantley who played at state Just a couple of years ago. Great pitcher down there. Jeff i wanna. I wanna polish here for a second book. And we'll we'll preview the game in a minute but as everyone knows in college baseball i mean this has been a bizarre weekend with what happened with. Nc state The fact they didn't have to play that second game against the inner belt in and you know bit better than anyone fact lighter didn't have to pitch on the mound tonight. Can you kind of put that into perspective for us as someone who not only follows The college baseball world but continues on the broadcast side and the majors E- even even as we speak. I think that you can talk about momentum going into a series or going into a certain series whether you're a professional team or whether you're a college team even the highschool team but to be honest with you. Momentum is only about that days starting pitcher and if that pitcher is on than the momentum swings your way. And i don't care how many games you want ahead of time and that's part of the issue that you're looking at without north carolina state and vanderbilt playing that last game. It affords vanderbilt the opportunity to start jack lighter on significant rest where mississippi state had to start bednarz In the game to be texas Is it fair. probably not is it. Most unfair to north carolina state Yeah because they they were on a roll coming into that series but the biggest situation that you have right now is missing. State is just put that issue behind him and just come to play ball. They've seen lighter. They've seen kumar rocker. They've just got to figure out a way to beat them as i mean. These guys are rocker and lighter have been almost unhittable but you just mentioned the most important thing they've been seen we're now at the end of june state has already had a series with them and they've watched tapes of of countless others you give us the mindset of of of being on the mound and things are a little more advanced today maybe than they were back in the day but but you know and add to it the pressure of the series on on the biggest stage in college baseball. Well it for for lighter or rocker. It's going to be about pitch efficiency. Because they're at the there at the end of their run in collegiate baseball. Which means they've really piled up a lot of innings. Both of those guys had the miss starts earlier in the season right there at the end simply because of fatigue. They've been written like the the most strenuous that you could ride a horse. I mean that's that's kind of how vanderbilt is as run the table in this bill but the thing about it for mississippi state. They've got to figure out a way to up the pitch count and eliminate tissue pitch efficiency from both of these guys It'll start with jack lighter tonight facing mississippi state team that doesn't strike out a whole lot lighter as a strikeout pitcher so the more that he forces an issue where he's trying to get a strikeout. In every plate appearance it puts him at a disadvantage. Mississippi state is able to foul off pitches and run that pitch count. I mean you look at the triple digit mark when you hit a hundred Corbin's going to have to start thinking about what he's going to do next. Mississippi state is trying to get that pitch down two hundred as quick as possible. So as we're watching the game tonight That's that's a key factor on the other side was state. I mean we. We saw their best start or the other night. I mean they still have a closer. So what what should we be looking out on the other side. I i think the the biggest issue and you you saw it in the last start for christian mcleod command of the breaking ball. If he's able to get within the strike zone early in the ball game it's gonna give him great confidence. And he's dealing with the fatigue factor as well and that that breaking ball he throws power-pitch. It's a strength bit so the more that he is able to get that pitch over the plate early in the ball game. It's gonna give him a little bit of of calm if you will. I mean he's got a good fastball but the breaking ball is really the make or break point him so he can get it over early advantage mississippi state. I mean there's there's a perception out there and i don't think it's a perception vanderbilt has been on fire with the bat. Is there an explanation for that or are we just seeing the best on the best right now. I think you're you're correct that paul i. I think it's the best on the best I think it's it's always a a difficult run when you get to this point in your season you're dealing with fatigue that you've never had before you're also facing pitchers that You know their their tails on the line to. It's not a it's not a guy. Just trying to get a fastball over onto. Oh you're you're seeing. The most difficult pitches in the the most difficult spots. And you're not expecting pitcher to give you a a seven or eight inning ballgame. You're hoping that he can give you two or three innings and then you bring another guy am and every pitcher max upper and that's really what makes it so difficult every hitter that steps to the play good bad or ugly jeff finally just a couple of seconds left I was reading predictions. We all know what they're worth but it seemed like These are the espn analyst and broadcasters at the game i about seventy five percent like state Where are you on. I know who you want. But do you see an advantage for them. The advantage that i see paul is in the people that will be at the ball and and crowds make a difference at this tender age of collegiate baseball..

Jeff brantley Jeff two two hundred Nine christian mcleod starkville second game fourteen fifteen thousand fans north carolina second book tonight both Corbin today seven kumar rocker vanderbilt Mississippi omaha

"Covert vaccine in those type. Things what's happened in my view in the country is that we. It's it's totally politicized and you've grown a back. Divide line between the have and or your between people that want to get the vaccine. Those who comes so political. And i think when you look at nc state. That's what you're dealing with. You got a lot of parents involved with this and a lot of opinions. And i think that it's really hard to cows getting that same. Truly no i agree with you. And i said it and somebody asked me. Why are you against this. I'm not against anything. What i'm against is having people. Tell me what i have to do. Not not tell me what. I don't mind somebody saying this is a really good idea And you ought to look at it seriously but but that's not what we get. I mean we get people over and over again. I mean we're at the end of ju- were at the end of june. This has been going on now since december and you almost feel like You know you're unworthy if you don't go out and do what they tell you and i think that's the biggest problem with the message it. You can't be a second class citizen. No you don't have the back. Exactly that's that we can't have that because that's never gonna bring us together. And what's the problem. Is the media a lot of the media and a lot of the politicians use this as a wedge issue a lot of different people. And that's where rats. I'll go ahead and say the media joke i. I never wanted to say that. Because i've always defended the media but the media has turned into a comedy hour and i don't know if i trust anything i hear on any channel because i know what's behind it. I mean i'm in this business too. I can see through it and and by the way it goes it goes for everything you go how you.

"Yeah i'm hearing all. Yeah yeah we have you loud and clear. Thank you talk about joys in alabama autism making it to the sec championship undefeated. Both i think the odds of both making it undefeated or not very good. But i do think both of them make it. Well he's holed up georgia alabama clemson. The i would say maybe let me just just looking at it. Objectively georgia has clemson. I think that's not. That's that is their toughest game of the year. So who who will alabama's toughest games be. I think miami will be a challenge. I don't think i think florida's challenging very tough. yeah. And then. I mean i think alabama's toughest game and i think after that it will be florida and then maybe Lsu yeah gotta be broader. Too yeah i think yeah. I'm i'm less concerned about that But i think georgia georgia will get florida this year end under to play. It makes a good game. Yeah spots you know. Well listen. I think i mean we're in the polls come out in a couple of weeks wash alabama will be number one clemson number to georgia either three or four with oklahoma and ohio states. Somewhere somewhere in that mix. That's seen the magazine claims to be number two now georgia or so. I guess that'd be matchup game. Let me tell you this. So georgia beat clemson in the first game. Who's to say they won't end up being number one the next week. Yeah okay. i didn't want to go about that. Well i'm glad you go. You take care of yourself. yeah i really do. Think there's a good chance of that and by the way You know week. Two of the college football season you know whether alabama's number one or clemson number one is hardly hardly critical. But but i think it seems like from all the indications alabama is going to be the number one team By the way that has never alabama is not been the best wired wired team Most of the time when they have won. Not i think there's is there's an exception or two but They have often been better when when they were not number. One in the country will double check out in a minute but i'm pretty sure most of their championships have come from other positions than number one. Let's check out sunny Let me see. i'm sorry about hanes. Who is next up in mississippi. Hanes good afternoon. Hold paul i doing buddy. We're doing great what's going on with you man. I'm so excited. Not first time caller. I love your show buddy a Just wanted to make a comment. And i'll get off there because i'm fixing to go up and watch the dogs And everything so. I just wanna let everybody know you're going to see a sea maroon at the college world series boys will you. Hey the hell states coming and we're bringing hail with us and it's going to be a war. We're ready hail stay well. Yeah it's great to hear from me. I mean i don't. I don't i don't mean to diminish the importance of of this series for vanderbilt vanderbilt has won what titles since Twenty fourteen. So i mean. They played for three mississippi state. This is a big deal. i mean they. They were in the finals In two thousand thirteen under john cohen played ucla and came up short. So i mean. This is a big deal for programs but for mississippi state. I think he might argue. It might mean just a little bit more. let's concert. Let's go to sonny who is up next in colorado. Hello hello sunny. Go right ahead. Well thank you paul. Appreciate you taking my call. One of the things that i'm being concerned about is watching. What's going on with the players being able to You know use their images of this playoff system. I think once this all occurs. And i'm concerned.

That was the Pirates game. The Reds won 5 to 1 in 10 innings he went for in two thirds danced in out and around trouble limited the damage. Just one run. He did give up seven hits in those foreign two thirds innings. He did throw four wild pitches. But again, the Reds win the game 51 in 10. The opposition Tonight is Logan Web 24, year old right hander, two and three, the record 474 the earned run average. His last start was Tuesday of last week. Against Texas, six innings three hits one run, He struck out 10. His earned run average again. 474 the next three nights tomorrow and afternoon. Castille versus Anthony DeSclafani Wednesday. Wade Miley versus Kevin Gausman Thursday, Tyler Malli versus Johnny Cueto. Three former Reds They'll get this week a five man rotation that has four former Reds. I'd be curious. It's probably not that rare. But how many times do you hear of a starting rotation for a team that has made it before? Guys who once pitched for another team, all pitched in the other one would be Alex would Who was hurt most of his time that Cincinnati they'll miss him in this trip five and, oh, his record. 1 75, he earned run average Reds winners yesterday You talk about a savage doctor, a scramble back in a Difference in opinion and difference in feeling they were down 6 to 1 of the eight they wouldn't 7 to 6. That's the difference when a winning road trip in a losing road trip. When's the last time you saw a team tie a game on a passed ball and Win the game on a wild pitch. That's what happened in the ninth inning passed ball tied it for the Reds. A wild pitch scored a run that was the winning run. Then they sealed into the bottom of the night with I'm telling you, one of the fighters double plays you will ever see if you haven't seen it. And based on the circumstances, one of the most high leverage important double play turns you'll ever see. It was bottom of the ninth and a one run game with one out runners on the quarters, fastest runner on the team at the plate. And India at second fields makes a pivot Turns fires This worries coming across the bag who delivers a laser to Tucker Barnhart it first base 463 double play ball game yesterday. It was ugly early. "Tonight getting ready for the weekend the basketball but also baseball. There's a huge baseball. Yeah well there's always a huge baseball game in the sec. But when you have the number two three teams in the country playing a it really makes a big difference georgia. Am coming up right after us. And the series. I was referring to arkansas and mississippi state. You can catch that on sec. Plus this afternoon. Seven speaking of the mississippi state. Let's welcome jeff. Brantley who had quite a career at mississippi state and later In the major leagues of pitch at a world series and Courses done a lot of commentating work and jeff. It's only been forty years. But i vaguely remember covering you as a quarterback very high school as my memory As good as is it better than yours. Did you remember much about Those days when you were a star quarterback at afternoon in do paul and it's good to be on your show I do remember you coming to very high school and covering us It was interesting. Because all of us at that time alabama fans and you had just written a big article university of alabama football and then all of a sudden we see you standing on the sidelines at very high school. So that was Pretty important for a seventeen year old kid. Well thank you. It's great to catch up with you and i. There's there's a. There's a lot of one ask you about includes one of the most famous moments in baseball history. But i want to ask you about this series. I because It's almost become cliche in the sec. To talk about big games like this. I mean you can go through a lot of baseball season and not get a two versus three. And i don. I don't want to say this is an ordinary. Sec series for late march but it really is But but you get these every week. Yeah i think it just incredible the the largeness that that baseball possesses in the sec. Had i mean we've talked about football for so long down here but it's it's a lot about baseball this time of the year especially in in starkville mississippi i would imagine that with the covert rules being really relaxed in this state Anybody who is a baseball fan in this state will start on this weekend. No doubt i it i. I'm everytime in mississippi or or lsu or florida for one of these weekends in the spring. It's just it's amazing to me. And i'm maybe even to you because although you played at mississippi state which has always been the go-to in terms of changing the culture of baseball. How big these things are What was it like when you play. I know it was big but Compared to now how would you make the comparison It was pretty much everybody close up shop and let's the baseball field. I mean that's that's kinda fell Back in that day and Everyone treated us like celebrities. I don't know that we qualified as such at the point in time but You know we just played baseball and we happen to have an awfully good ball club. We didn't win the world series. But we got there. We played good baseball at mississippi state and A lot of us went on to play in the big leagues Rafael palmeiro will clark body. Big ten But we had a lot of other great players on that club besides just four guys that. Get a lot of notoriety. I i know that most people that are familiar with you know where i'm going next. And i'm wondering how many times How many days of your life have you not been asked about one of the most harrowing and scary and memorable moments in sports history when you're About to pitch in the world series and an earthquake occurred. Yeah i don't. I don't know that i well. I hope nobody else has to ever go through that That was my rookie year in san francisco. And we'd come home with loss to against the oakland as we come back to san francisco to to play game three and just as we're walking on the field paul The earthquake hits and in san francisco. All of the the locker room area was underground. And you had to go through a tunnel to get out under the field. And they were supposed to emergency lights in the such in there and that didn't really work too well. I can be honest because i was in the puddle. Ten the tunnel heading out to get announced at that time Pretty scary moment My parents were there. They they were there for ten days and never got to see one world series game so they've never got to see me pitch in the world series and i wanna make sure people understand because you know you know often we do experience earthquakes. Or tremors and it. It's not a big deal. This was a horrific deal You already you're already alluded to it. i mean it was i mean it was it was almost. It was watching one of these. These big movies where it looks like the world is coming to an end did you. When did you realize how bad it was Well we what we came through the tunnel and got onto the field You got a little more than what. The fans in the stands scott. We got Wire reports from the east bay and and really more information than the folks in the stands because nothing really from a visual standpoint happened inside the stadium. I at one point a after about four minutes. I think the fans were chanting. Let's play ball. If they had no idea that the bay bridge had come come down. They had no idea that the eight eighty expressway collapsed and the arena was on fire. I mean nobody really knew about this stuff until hours after so It was it was quite the experience. What did what did you do during that. Ten day period. I i mean. I know you. You wanna get ready for the next game. But that's That's not the easiest thing to do now. A lot of us. I mean you you go back to your apartments of a homes that you were staying at and after about three or four days. I mean the giants stayed in town the as left To work out and we just did a lot of kind of public things trying to keep people's spirits up because a lot of folks lost their lives and it was Was really a a really tough experience for any person. Go through much less Somebody that's lost a family member or or something along that line and then you're still talking about trying to play world series it kind of took all the momentum out of even going back to play a sport at that point and You say it ten days to get back to to finish it out. Is that right. Yeah it took us Ten days to get back and then we we played game and three in game four. And i mean there. Were still a lot of people at the ballpark. It just just didn't have the same kind of meaning. I mean when you're spending time with somebody that's lost a loved one in your back out to the field to play kind of takes away a lot of incentive y- i mean i know we spent so much time in the last year talking about how weird the weird the stadiums were with no fans and now with limited fans but i don't think there's anything to quite compared to that You reflect back on your career both in in the bigs and of course it mississippi state i know that it it certainly in the in the rear view mirror but does it ever get old talking about it I mean it had to be just an incredible life to live. well. I'll say it like this paul. I guess is probably the best way for me to say it Mississippi state I don't think you ever forget playing there. It's it's like it's like playing for your family. It's it's like your last name You're never gonna forget finebaum. I'm never gonna forget brantley and I'll never forget mississippi state and when you play there that's just the way it is. Well i i am so thankful that you came on a loved to continue this conversation throughout the baseball season because it's so special in such a great time of year i know we're obsessing over Spring football starting and a the sweet sixteen in the league but On a friday night as you said in starkville mississippi and pretty much anywhere else It is very very special. It is paul. And i don't think any of us really realized how hard it was to have in the ballpark. You mentioned that earlier Whether you're a baseball player or football player of what kind of venue. You're you're involved in. There is nothing like the hearing the roar of the crowd. And i imagined whether you're at arkansas. Or whether you're on mississippi state club You're going to hear a lot of roar of the crowd at beauty noble. Come as weekend. Well jeff thanks for making the time. It was really great to remember back even even to my salad days as a reporter but Come back soon we. We love talking you tonight. Love your show take care of thank you very much Jeff brantley of course in the hall of fame and mississippi state and And such great memories and such harrowing memories as well as of october night in eighty nine we will take a break. It's great school. i'm georgia bulldogs through and through but north carolina and georgia have some rivalries that go back a law late at the sogo which i saw but they both claim to be the oldest public universities in the country. The story is north. Carolina was open. That doors i but georgia was chartered. I to schools I'm a graduate. My father was a graduate and ask for children graduated georgia. And we're all pretty good bulldogs. But i did want to take this opportunity to welcome paul brown. I mentioned earlier. The coach a cousin this tennis coach at the university of north carolina and he has a very successful program and i. I hope that the mike brown will fit in with that seasonal superior. Mccoy got hurt okay. He played into the art and the to the game and he got hurt and his shoulder and It took three months to get well. Well nancy thank you for the call and you. You're you're too nice of a woman for me to argue with you. But i was at the game. Of course i remember it differently Got the play. The cold of got hurt on was a terrible call. I'm blaming mac. He wasn't the offensive coordinator. But i'm sure he was. And i. i don't know. If i have another ten years left on mir fifty years in me. But i hope i never hear another textures. Fan claim incorrectly. That have caught. Mccoy had not been hurt. They would have won that game. They were not going to win. That game that alabama team was far too good. And it's it's one of the most archaic excuses. I think i've ever heard in texas fans who haven't come close to a national championship since and probably won't anytime in the near future is keep hanging onto poor old cole mccoy. As their reason why nick sabin was able to beat them in that national championship. Game at the rose bowl We will take a break. "Fouls of the way right side. Taylor. Agreed to a one year deal with the Royals prior to the season. He was the former top prospect with the Nationals had a good year, broke out in a big way and then just was never really able to build. And now the pitch and Taylor lifts a fly ball pretty well hit to right field. It's in fact, in a Quinn and just shy, the warning track make will make the catch for out number one. And let's pause for station identification along the Cincinnati Bell Reds Radio network, The coronavirus relief bill heading to the president's desk Friday after being passed by the House this afternoon. That story and more after the game on the home of the Reds news radio 700 WLW Cincinnati With the cowboy Jeff Brantley. Producer engineer, David Er. Brewster and our studio producer Jeff Carr. This is Tommy throng. Great to be with you. The pitch is a strike to Ryan O'Hearn over the outside corner. It's on one Lawrence and back to his wind up in the old one pitch swing and a miss. And the count is going to Boy, We're seeing some fastballs from Lorenzen today at 88 Miles an hour now that could be a couple miles an hour, different from I think the 88 is the cutter. It's just not is just not cutting as much as what we're used to seeing. The top fastball that we've seen from Lauren's and thus far and can't has been 94. We may have seen a 95 the final pitch in his last outing before they said they'd seen enough breaking balls sharply on the ground between short and second. And then to get into right center field for a base it but they couldn't get it with the dive. There is no doubt that Lorenzen is well short of his normal velocity, not just on the fastball, but On the cutter. On the curveball. The changeup is about the same velocity, but that's the only pitch that is at the same spot. And we're seeing hitters barrel those balls up. And if you're actually in a real competition for the number five spot Andrzej Roberto stands and it takes inside Ball one. I think if you're in a competition Your manager. You pitching coach or front office looks at. Yeah, your previous numbers. We understand what you could do. But you're not throwing the ball the same. You're not throwing with the same velocity or the same conviction. You just kind of going through the motions, and that's gonna That's gonna be a telltale sign a pie two balls. No strikes on Alberto. We can live with you throwing 96 missing in the middle. We can't live with you throwing 91 92 missing in the middle. They hit it like hope. Jorge Soler just hit that one. Almost went out of the ballpark. This is a big ballpark up in away three balls. No strikes on Alberto. Her on it. First base one out of run ins. The letters home run as the Royals up one to nothing. "Season ticket exchange program if you can't make this Saturday you can trade for another game for disinformation visit Reds dot com slash membership along with cowboy Jeff Brantley I'm Tommy thrall we've been talking red spring training it is so nice to see games going again and well we we've got a really nice comment I'm not in a little while I'll be at the bottom of the hour and the we've been talking pitching we haven't talked a lot about the position players but let's get into that a little bit because there's some spots that could be open the the update right now on Nixon's L. is that he is just started throwing he's thrown the last couple of days so he's thrown a little bit now but still not quite there if everything goes perfect maybe there's a chance he could be ready for opening day the same kinda holds true with a U. Haney as far as but he's still not throwing he's also not swinging with two hands now was far as David bill seems to think that once he starts that he'll be pretty much ready to go he's kept himself in shape so that's a good sign for him we also haven't seen Freddy Galvis throw the baseball yet either he hasn't played the game Freddy Galvis there there's no damage there really is just a sore shoulder that's kind of kept him out so but there's some uncertainty there I guess things come opening day how do you what what how do you size this up as far as contingencies go well I I don't worry so much about Freddy Galvis and I don't I wouldn't worry about any veteran player missing the first week ten days of spring training there spring training is so long now there's plenty of time for a position player to catch up pitchers is different store you've got to you've got to have that build up and and linked as far as pitching goes especially as a starting pitcher but I I look at both swaras and sins at all and do you can wear rose colored gap glasses and and believe okay after shoulder surgery they're going to be ready to go on opening day if if I am in that locker room and I know that I have a chance to make this club I am assuming that swaras and sins are all are not going to be ready on opening day and I've got a chance to make this club with that being said there are several guys that are out there that can I have their backs against the wall I mean you you say all right with sins els not gonna be there it opens up maybe on an infield spot because since I was not going to be playing at an infield spot along with swaras you're you're looking at at two extra spots that could very well be a what's available on opening day a lot of that has to do with your flexibility can you play infield and outfield can you play in the middle part of the in field we know that Moustakas could move to third in a in a flash but you also have to look at what kind of production can you give me with the bat right well I think Kyle farmer we have in our conversations he seems to be a lock for this team I mean that there hasn't been any debate about him he gives you a third option at catcher that way you can really platoon with Tucker and Kirk Sally and then even in game situations you could pinch hit one of the other that goes back to my my thought of of flexibility there is no other player that can play shortstop and catch and you could put former in the outfield he he's just one of those types of athletes that can do a lot of things defensively and still bring you a quality bat that can give you a home run late in a ball game right there's not there's not many guys that can play all the infield spots and the cats I mean that is certainly very rare and celebration the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Negro league the Reds hall of fame and museum is proud to showcase the shades of greatness exhibit presented by Densmore now through April seventeenth this critically acclaimed exhibit features thirty five original works.

"Brennaman Jeff Brantley you guys call it your thoughts on this one seven five final score the reg fall and had plenty of opportunities you have to do a whole lot more damage and they ultimately did yeah you get nine walks in a in a ballgame you've given yourself plenty of opportunities to to win the ball game it looked like the roads were coming right back in this from with that three run home run by as far as in the fifth but they just couldn't get that extra run they needed to at least tie this thing up you know every job calomel it does something good which he did his last time out your hope that maybe this young man is decided to turn the corner but that was not the case tonight he pitches four innings of one run baseball in which he allowed only two hits and then the roof just caved in on him in the fifth inning and he had to be taken out of the game I I think ultimately for for Tyler Ennis this way with the a lot of young pitchers you're trying to find that one page that gives you the out there there's not an issue with mala getting ahead in the count it's trying to get that final pitch to get the out in the back they ran into trouble with more today there in the fifth inning he couldn't quite get him on the inside part of the plate hit the ball out of the ballpark. Arizona ball clubs got some fire power didn't go look they've got a lot of guys that they can put the ball in play they don't strike out a whole lot and they've got some guys that can play a lot of different positions very versatile team it would be nice down the stretch to see a U. hideous wiress continue what he's doing right now forty two home runs he's five away from time the all time record by a native Venezuelan Andres Galarraga with forty seven he's gotten off to a great start here in the month of September which she struggled mightily in last year yeah I think when you're when you're watching him I don't think he wants to have a September like you had last year I think he's continuing with his foot on the accelerator whatever he does would not surprise me no I could not agree with you more tough night for the ridge tonight they strand eleven including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks won it by a final score of seventy five Tommy back to you thanks Marty this Reds game recap was brought to you by first financial bank we go beyond a banking by putting you first first financial bank member FDIC will check scores around Major League Baseball you're listening to the Reds postgame show.

"Of their last six games. And they win it tonight in big fashion twelve to one beating the Saint Louis cardinals using five home runs to do it those highlights or coming up shortly. But now, let's get the thoughts from the guys that called it Marty Brennaman and the cowboy Jeff Brantley standing by guys. Thanks a lot of time twelve one final score. Jeff. I don't think that any of us ever expect to come into Saint Louis, and and watch your registered five home runs in a ballgame and blow it wide open with a six run ninth inning the way they did tonight. Well, it was a great start to a ball game. When Suarez hit the home run the reds got up early. And normally that's when the the reds seemed to relax at the plate relax on the mound. And do what they're supposed to do. Well, I agree with you that I didn't see this coming. But it sure is. And you know, when you have a game like this kind of overshadows the other aspect of the game. And that is Anthony diesel funny. Six shutout innings before David bell went. Into his bullpen. Yeah. It was. It was never a. Not having a runner on base for the cardinal type of inning for me. But it just seemed like he was able to provide damage control never seem to let things get out of whack even in the early part of the ball game. And you put six on the board against that lineup. It's awfully good job out. I'll Rabovsky and I would talk and while the cardinals were take batting practice today. And you know, we changed information about the two clubs, and he said, you know, you guys are not hit a lick. But he said nobody in this league thinks that's going to continue very long game. Like tonight makes you wonder well, you you just look up and down the the reds lineup and slowly. But surely things.

But I just assumed that it would just kinda come on out. And would be a big deal. I can still remember he asked me about the practice practice practice. You know and second inning ins, and he hands me the the Mike and says, well, here's Jeff Brantley with play by play. He gets up and walks out. I'm thinking, oh here we go. Yeah. That's what it said it, right? And you go man, this is going to be this is kinda long right now to the the seconds feel like ours. And yeah, I think anyone in broadcasting's probably been there before but in you're right about that. I make this point to is that there's a legacy here. Jeff Brantley Waite Hoyt, Al Michaels briefly Marty. And Joe, of course, the platinum standard to was well, but but thirteen years now, you it's you Jeff Brantley after Marty is gone. It's up to you now to carry the torch, and whether you like it or not that that's on you. I'm sure that's sad into as you head into the final season with Marty. "Within without disabilities to overcome their own personal barriers but also i'm really looking forward to getting involved with hopefully some change i i notice so much the need for things to be inclusive you have 95 percent of all of the people in the media who are disabled on tv are portrayed by people who are not disabled and they're they're being the you know acted on instead of allowing people with those disabilities the chance to play the role honestly and earnestly and that that needs to change eight why is it so shocking when there is a commercial with a person in a wheelchair sick all look at them no there are a person this should be normal you know we shouldn't even see that jeff brantley it should be beautiful why are concerts knock being captions or having interpreters or you know they're there should be so much more that we can do to include everybody end and sometimes it's the easiest in the most simple solution so i want to get more involved with making a difference and coming up with some solutions that can make an impact for others were you're talking right there about those with disabilities not the moves run mi oba music our own movie that i i love actually own at call the music within uh and talks about the guy who actually founded the american disability act just a beautiful beautiful movie that speaks to this so much and in you talking about your out and you're working on so folks here's here's a plug in its this is not an ad for spotify i just use spotify love it you can find me are all over there and i'm sitting here skull and through in ulsan highly disappointed at christmas is over and i just found out you have a christmas album so that'll be number one on my family's christmas lists next season is the christmas with you so just thank you for your gift for sharing it with us and for doing what you do to inspire the true performers of so many people man he just a blessed by thank you.
