"Rams they just keep on rolling rolling looking for their twelfth win. They're favored by thirteen points. The wise guys know what they speak. They do it. So well, the total total points in this one fifty two and a half. I think the Rams can put up some big points. Not. So sure about the eagles. It's going to be interesting. Of course, it kicks at eight twenty on NBC. I hope it's a good game. But I fear. The Rams could take the eagles and defender them. If you know what I mean? So we're going to do that nail was whole thing. Let's go first to Jeff Biggs in our Culver city studios. I kate. Hey, great show, by the way. I was listening to your show today while I was running. Thank you. Shit that. Sincerely. Yeah. It was excellent. So what do you think do you like the Rams or your pick an eagles? Aren't you? That's this time. I'll pick them to win last season. I was that. No. You know, what it's it's just a bad timing game. I'm I'm sure truth be told. I know it's it's the big markets. But I think truth be told NBC would probably like to a flexed game if they could with everything that's going on right now. And I mean that respectfully, but it is what it is. I I expect the Rams to to bounce back in a big way they've managed to field goals last week in Chicago. I completely got that game wrong. Not even close. I picked the Rams to win. So take that for what it's worth. But I expect the Rams to bounce back in a big way. Really do they're in a bit of an offensive funk, you know, the the play offs haven't started yet, and they need to kind of get back into their playoff mode. They have not looked like that team in a little while. Now, they have to get back to running the game. But I think you're just going to see them much more comfortable offensively. And so I'm picking the Rams to win thirty four to twenty over the eagles thirty four to twenty. I liked that. So guess what you are just over. On that point total. How about that? Okay. I love Jeff pigs. Thank you, Kate. We go from mister bigs to Josh Jacobs, our technical maestro. So what do you say? Josh. Well, you know, like Jeff said Elliot's been in kind of a slump. However, they are at home. I think they're going to be hungry for victory. A real big victory and Philadelphia. I know it's your team. But Sally, they're just not doing as well as they were last year. Although Nick foles he did help them win the Super Bowl side. Never put it past Nick foles. However, I think it's going to be Elliott Vange big time. I say Rams thirty to Philadelphia seventeen. Thirty two seventeen. So it was like we're surrounding an is save the Rams win this as well. And I'm thinking kind of just like you guys. However, I'm saying thirty one to that. I was struggling with what the point totals mean. I'm gonna say thirty one to fourteen fourteen and I say that because I think it's going to be that number. That's what five forty five. So I'm giving it forty five points on the under the under hits at this time. Because Jeff even said at the Rams offensively have not been working clicking on all cylinders. But hey, they could really rack up the points when they lost against the bears. It was fifteen six and then if you look at the win against the lions thirty points, but then you kind of all over the board. But usually thirty something I wanted to say the average is and what are we going to see from Todd Gurley. And can they stop Todd Gurley, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So this what's interesting for people listening is that lines. I used to work in Vegas, and I worked with a lot of sportsbook guys and learned a lot about the lines and how they move. And of course, this is obvious the Rams open as a seven and a half point favorite over the eagles. But then Carson Wentz was ruled out the Rams now thirteen points, thirteen and a half is what you're getting. So it shows there's not that confidence in Nick foles because he's not Carson west of Carson Wentz has had an okay season. But he's still I think he's still dealing with those injuries and back problems and all of that. So the entire roster for the Rams injury-free. That's shocking. Injury-free crazy. All right. So that's nail the score. We'll see what happens if any of us nail the score. I would be shocked so far we have not nailed the score. And we only have a handful of games left last. I did nila score couple of weeks ago. I forget which game it was. But I was right on the nose. I think it may have been the Chicago game. But I can't remember. So I I forget which one it was are, you sure you nailed the score thing. I did we need to know about hot dogs. Yeah. So who's going to pay for the hot dogs? We're gonna go look that up. The archives, and I'll have free as soon as I get it. All right. So we're going to do some research on that. Because that would be shocking. If Josh did nail it it's tough to do that. And that would be something to be able to brag about nailing the score. That's for sure. A couple of quick updates for you falcons added some more mustard. Speaking of hot dogs on top of the beating that they're giving to the cardinals thirty three seven less than two minutes to go in the third quarter of that game. Other totals words added up bears pulled ahead of the Packers because they were tied when I I checked in with you. So twenty one fourteen we've got ten minutes left in that game. The raiders put a few points on the board. And here they are second goal at since he's eight Bengals still hold onto that lead though. Twenty ten there. The Vikings add a little bit more twenty four seventeen over the dolphins there right now with fifteen minutes to go. So at the top of that fourth. And final quarter titans. Added another touchdown on top of their totals against the giants. Fourteen. Nothing we're heading into the fourth quarter of that game. The ravens and the buccaneers here. The ravens put up twenty points. They got the ball. Now long third and fourteen at Tampa Bay's forty seven but twenty twelve is the score in that game. This is big for Lamar Jackson who's already besides throwing. He's already had fifteen carries for ninety eight yards. That's the beauty of Jackson. Although that's the risk if he should get hurt. And you know, that whole thing about getting out of the pocket. But I think I think he's a great scrambler. And completely. It is completely worth it for him to do the colts lead the fact that they've got twenty up on the Cowboys who haven't scored a point is the largest deficit the Cowboys face this season. You know, they trailed in their week. Three loss at Seattle twenty four six, but this is just a beating, and they look terrible all the bravado about the Cowboys including me saying how it's sinking up Amari Cooper, Dak Prescott other extra weapons Ezekiel Elliott Najib's. Not happen. Defense is holding them in the Cowboys defense.

"Sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. Quick update. From one of the the meaningless games if you will from Cincinnati raiders Bengals Jeff Driscoll the Driscoll kid with a touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd. So the Bengals are on top seven and nothing. We'll get you caught up to date on all the action. Usually whenever we have an interview lots of things happened. So we'll get you caught up today. But it is a pleasure to welcome back to the program covers the saints for the Associated Press kind enough to join us here on a Sunday. Rent Martell is back with the spread. Thank you for coming on. I really appreciate it. And I'm just curious did you happen to receive one of those one hundred and seventy four custom-painted football's drew Brees gave out now. And in spite of all the arguably positive press, I'm giving garnet your did not get one of those Harney. I was hoping he did that'd be nice. When you look at the list, it's really people who are I know most of them were directly involved in his either catching her blocking or coaching and then people buy com house. Coach and so forth and the owner of the same scale Benson. Well, you've dealt with him obviously, much more than I have. But I have to say he is at least from my perspective from my vantage point here in L A, and he's always always been a class act. Yeah. He he really has. I don't know if you want to call it a high kind of emotional intelligence as well as intellectual intelligence, he composes himself, very well, including difficult difficult circumstances after losses. You know, sometimes it comes off maybe a little bit of a politician. 'cause you wonder how someone can always say the right thing so often, but more or less, I find it'd be pretty genuine and just very helpful to the game in terms of, you know, trying to help journalists cover it by giving good answers whenever he can, you know, all of my years on the planet. But I don't think I've heard that before emotional intelligence, I like that. Very good. All right. Well, you know, things don't always go according to the script, but it's kind of shaping up at least right now, we have a lot of football left, but kind of a storybook season for breezy the records, the homefield advantage number one seed is that kind of feeling there. Well, I mean, they're they're close to getting the number one see, but I think they're wrote over the last three games it's harder than the Rams. So you know, it remains to be seen whether or not going to get that. But. You know, the the only other problem actually homes playing so well that it could upset the story line in terms of who gets to the MVP. But you know, I, I guess breeze. Seems like the sentimental favourite, the voters of human. So if it's close I I would suspect that the guy is about to turn forty and exactly one month or one month from yesterday. Having one of the best seasons of his career leading team back to the playoffs would probably be the favorite for that award. And after that is the Super Bowl. I guess. Yeah. No doubt. All right. Well, with that said there was that little bump in the road in Dallas which snapped the winning streak the saints bounce back last week to win a Tampa Bay. But what do you think they learned from that loss to the Cowboys Brett? Well, I think they learned that they're going to need Toronto Armstead healthy for the play offs. And that they would rather play at home in the playoffs. I mean, they were going against not only hot team, but one of the better defensive lines in the league and that was on the road. And I think, you know, people who've watched football for a long time if seen how important to get off on the snap can be for defensive pass rush. And also the ability to hear the quarterback and the center communicating the line calls can be for an offensive line at home. I mean, if you look at how the divine played against the Rams formidable defensive front in Superdome, it was far superior. I mean, they put up something like forty five points, and as far superior to what they were able to do in Dallas where breathes under duress constantly. And you know, made an uncharacteristic mistake at the end of the game when. You know, they had the ball with a chance to potentially go down and take lead. So you know, I mean they were in that game. Most of the way, I think they learned that their defense is improving and more reliable than they thought it would be because of how it kept him in that game, and you know, forcing turnovers and and getting to the quarterback I believe that six sacks from Dallas. It's actually I think they came away from that game. Know relatively positive frame of mind. And you know, they they had a little bit of a sloppy first-half in Tampa Bay the next week but started rolling again in the second half of twenty five answered points. Bartell covers the saints for the Associated Press in New Orleans with us here on NBC sports radio kind enough to join us here on a Sunday. All right Brad tomorrow night, Monday night football at Carolina. The Panthers are desperate. So. And they've dropped five in a row. They they're they're going to be fired up, and what is the back story with this broom that somebody sent to Cam Newton. Yeah. It's a little little mysterious. You know, people thought it might have been Cameron Jordan because after the playoff game last year with the saints beat them for the third time in one season. You know, Cam Jordan who went to Cal Berkeley actually had a northern California cabernet called Jordan. Cabernet in his locker. Kind of like as a little problem. He said that he was going to send a count bottle, Jordan wine. So, you know, and he's very playful like that. And apparently, you know Cam Newton is saying that he ended up with a. Broom as well on kept it in his locker as a motivational thing. But nobody Hussein seems to know or be willing to admit where that came from. But they all say that if Cam Jordan had also sent the broom that he probably would have bragged about it. So they doubt that he did the other the other theory is maybe somebody who used to play for Carolina candidates would be Ted Ginn where AJ Kline but AJ Klein emphatically denied it just in a casual conversation. I had with me was shooting a mini basketball and the saints locker room. He got a little defensive didn't want to talk about it. So mainly wonder, but anyway, you know, that's that's kind of what's going on. So I guess there's still a lot of speculation surrounding the grooming exactly where it came from. Whether it was a chilling fan, a member of the saints, or you know, maybe something that that Cam Newton came up with as a way to. You know, kind of it's sorta quasi bulletin board stuff. Nice. Nice. It's those little things right Bret those are the things we live for. Wasn't emotional game. Yeah. All right. I just wouldn't little follow up. Forgive me. I'm I'm usually pretty good about this. I did not I met the check recent history and all that stuff the saints. Obviously they won three hundred last year. They had their number of late. Is it a pretty one sided streak against Carolina. Well, not necessarily. I mean, they've often struggled to win at Carolina. It's you know, with a lot of their NFC south, foes, the games tend to be really competitive. I mean, they had a good run against Atlanta for a while between two thousand nine and two thousand eleven but you know, I would say ever since two thousand twelve were they basically had four seven to nine seasons and five years before getting back to the playoffs last year. It's been relatively, you know, close to five hundred most of their divisional rivals being Carolina, Atlanta and Tampa Bay. So, you know last year they were able to sweep them and. Two regular season games plus playoffs. And now they've got two games coming up against Carolina in the last three weeks. Basically, you know on the road and then home twice against the Steelers and Carolina close the season. Alright. Yeah. Tough. It's gonna be great finish though. I can't wait to see how it all plays out breast cancer. Thanks, man. Thank you for the time today. Enjoy the rest to happy holidays. And we'll talk to you down the road. Thank you. Same to you have a great show. It's going to be on. Thank you. You gotta Brett Martell covers the saints for the Associated Press with us here on NBC sports radio. So the saints Monday night with Carolina, then they host the Steelers and then host the Panthers in the Superdome. And of course, you know, obviously, they want to get the number one seed and have you know, the NFC go through the Superdome. We saw what they did. They were able to beat the Rams there. So that's that's what's going on. So these games, even though they're they're comfortable and they've wrapped up wrapped up divisions. And I want to get that seating. And want to get that home field for the Rams. They're still in the hunt. They're hoping that they can they can win out the rest of the way with their schedule. Eagles eagles cardinals forty Niners wrap wrap it up and hope that maybe the saints will trip up and lose one of these three the rest of the way. We'll see. All right. We've got some action going on right now. More points on the board and more teams are threatening. We'll get you caught up to date next. I'm Jeff Biggs. Sports Sunday on NBC sports radio..

"On NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. Great day for us. It's always a good day for us here at the network, but you gotta feel for Redskins quarterback, Alex. Smith Texans Redskins. So we told you that Alex Smith with the Redskins poised to take the lead right before. Halftime Alex Smith picked off in the end zone by Justin Reed who returned. It all the way back to the house one hundred and one yard pick six to put the Texans on top. So that made it seventeen to seven with Houston. Having the lead at that point. So the Texans kick the ball back with a little over a minute left and on the second play of the drive Alex Smith was picked off again second time in three plays and that allowed the Texans to attempt a chi- fair baron forty four yard field goal. He missed it wide left. So a little bit of a break there for Redskins. Maybe that will kind of help them get some of the momentum back, but they're going to likely go into the locker room trailing the Texans seventeen to seven with a stunning turn of events there right before halftime is Houston tries to extend their winning streak to seven in a row just before half-time in Indy. The titans got on the board with a field goal. A Ryan suck up field goal. So it's twenty four to three the colts lead at the break. The lions added a field goal just before the half in Detroit over the Panthers tend to seven we told you the falcons lead the Cowboys sixth. Two three the giants lead the the bucks fourteen to seven still nine nothing. The Jags over the Steelers thirty six seconds left in the first half there. And the ravens with a field goal on top of the Bengals final seconds in Baltimore ten seven. "Sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. Great to be with you as we get ready for week ten Sunday in the NFL the two big inactive so far today rob gronkowski out for the patriots, Tennessee. Also Sammy Watkins is not going to play in Kansas City for the chiefs against the cardinals. The breaking college football news, Bobby Pacino fired at Louisville with a two and eight season thus far and a seven game losing streak. And we've got a good NBA action coming up today, including the rockets who are trying to work something out with Carmelo Anthony over his role really quickly want to bring in my man, Steve spin Aberg last night, my wife, and I we snuck out for a rare date night. No nice. And she wanted to see the movie a star is born. Okay. Phenomenal. I mean, look, Bradley Cooper and Gaga to extremely extremely talented people. Okay. Also does stand up comedy and in the movie Andrew dice clay played Gogga's dad, which was kinda weird made me feel old. I just I kept. I kept. I won't say it. "On NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. We have a quick update from Detroit Seahawks lions mentioned Matthew Stafford with that touchdown pass to Marvin Jones moments ago. Russell Wilson using the long ball to connect with Tyler Lockett and right out early in the second quarter, the lions and the Seahawks are tied seven seven also the chiefs had it fourth goal ended up going with the field goal. And then they'll try the Broncos at Arrowhead late in the first quarter seven to three so week. Eight Sunday in the NFL is underway. We'll keep you posted on that. But right now going to wrap up the Saturday for week nine in college football, and it is a pleasure to welcome to the program. Covers college football for twenty four seven sports. Brad Crawford kind enough to join us on a Sunday. Right. How are you? My man. Thanks for coming on. Thanks for having me, man. Those pretty a wild Saturday in college football with Ken of twenty five ranked teams going down. Yeah. Eight eight ranked team. Yeah. Absolutely. Let's start before before we kind of break that down. We had the big game in the SEC, Georgia and Florida and the BULLDOGS eliminated the Gators and then Kentucky pulled out the win at Missouri. So that that sets up what's going to be just an absolute monster Saturday next week in Georgia at Kentucky and then in primetime Alabama at LSU. Yeah. Two very big games in the SEC. And really the only two opponents standing between a Georgia Alabama final which is what pretty much every media member projected right over the summer. You know, it's it's pretty amazing. What what Kentucky has done especially last couple of weeks. They, you know, yesterday's game for three and a half quarters Kentucky could move the ball at all. I think they had seven or eight renounce. And then all of a sudden punt return touchdown gift fastener parents penalty and then win on an time down. So right right now, it seems like the Wildcats are a bit of a team of destiny and the SEC, and I I have to confess full. Disclosure. I didn't get a chance to watch the the Georgia Florida game. Like I wanted too busy family weekend are the BULLDOGS back or close. I think they they're they're pretty close. They got back to you know, the the physicality mindset that produce an SEC championship Kirby's Martin company last season. You know, we gotta remember Florida had a one point lead in that game yesterday midway through the third quarter. So it wasn't wasn't quite a blow out the way the final score indicated. But I think I think Kirby smart I had a very good plan coming out of the bye week. And you know, a lot of us wrote Georgia off a little too soon in my opinion. All right. Well, Brad also Notre Dame now eight and after taking care of navy, and what's what's coming up next. Actually, maybe didn't look at paper on paper the start of the year. But I think a pretty good match up next weekend at northwestern. Wildcats. Yeah. They they have a road game there. They play Syracuse on the they'd go to USC and the regular season. Finale. I think you know, you you look at you on beaten left, light, light, Clemson and Notre Dame. Clemson has a bit of an easier. Schedule in November, the Notre Dame does Irish would probably going to be a double digit favorite here on out. But you know, that that's the match up. I think right now everybody kind of wants to see in the playoff and Nefer semifinal game, unbeaten Clemson versus unbeaten Notre Dame. All right. So what what are we kind of looking at a couple of weeks ago? Look like maybe that fourth spot. There was going to be a whole group of teams. Right. But yesterday, a couple more teams are knocked out Texas, which lost it, Oklahoma state and also Iowa which went down at Penn State. So you've got Bama Clemson Notre Dame right there in a good spot. They could still lose. But I'm saying at least right now they're in a good spot. And then who's who's left for that fourth spot, Georgia? Yeah. I think looking ahead. Michigan. Yeah. LSU I think right now shoot. Yeah. In the final four if the season ended today, they're they're probably the best one loss team left based on the body of were though that season opening win over Miami doesn't hold near as much water as it did maybe two weeks ago Michigan's another team man with one loss as long as the wolverines went out, and that'll be tough games against Penn. State next week and say the few weeks from now along as Michigan wins out. You know, Jim Harbaugh is gonna make his first playoff appearance, Ron cough. Brent Crawford covers the college football for twenty four seven sports with us here on NBC sports radio. Breida? I've said before I, you know, I'm I'm a pack twelve guy who would have thought that Mike Leach in Washington state would be the last team standing of relevance in the Pac twelve at seven to one. I mean, we're we're talking about Gardner men's shoe might be a Heisman finalist. I mean who would have projected exactly yesterday's win. That was a heck of a comeback win. At at Stanford. Stanford has been a little up and down. And you know, probably right now if you ask me who's gonna make the Pac twelve championship game. I'd probably take cougs and Utah. And that's that's two teams that no one had I'm in that final. Especially the way, you know, Washington kind of had the hype machine going in their favor going into the season. So pack twelve is certainly out of the playoff race right now. But there's four or five really good teams in my opinion out west. Yeah. What happened to Washington and Chris Peterson third loss? Yesterday. Lou's at Cal twelve to ten what happened? Yes. For whatever reason Jake Browning and miles gassed and really never got going on offense. And you know, it's really been kind of a disappointing year for for Browning. He was a Heisman finalists two years ago had Washington in the playoff after they lost Alabama. You know, they kinda took a step back last year. A lot of us and clued myself had Washington in the playoff this season. And you know, they just never have got it going off pensively still still very good defensively. But to go on the road and lose to kind of, you know, mediocre five hundred Cal team that was a bit of a head scratcher to me. All right, Brad. And last thing before I let you go. I guess as as an added bonus on top of everything else yesterday. We had another Mike Gundy epic rant after the win over Texas. Criticism.

"Sports radio because football night in America features. The young stud, Pat Mahomes and Tom Brady the old man with a fistful of rings. And a great defense or decent defense. This year has been a little rough on them. Ballot. Check says listen fake ballot. Check you get on the bench. They're real ballot. Check says that the bottom line is this the first month is just kinda like training camp. You know, it's just like preseason. So now they're into it. It's at home and the records show how good the patriots are in slaying the high hopes of rookie quarterback's. He does have a lot of weapons. He definitely can throw a deep ball and burn. You is going to be an interesting game. Absolutely. And we're going to try to nail the score. When I say we meaning the crew. Of this show in Culver city. The guys are there. So we're gonna talk about it. See if anybody can get the right side of this and nail the score. What's going to happen on Sunday night? Jeff Biggs joins us. Now. You hear his show before mine if you haven't make sure you're downloading the app or get it any way you can't. He does a fantastic show right before mine on Sunday. And he's doing some fabulous updates off. You could just I don't know if he could just bottle that voice and sell it. He'd be a millionaire. I'm your mouth to God's ears. Thank you. It's true. I love both. I like you doing the show, and I love your your updates as well. I don't like you playing against me and fantasy football though, knowing I'm gonna ask you. You're crushing me. I'm going to have to put you in the boo- box. Kate you left a Ted Ginn junior. Now, I'm starting lineup. I know I don't know. How I you know, I've done that two weeks. Not. I don't think I did last week. I've done it twice. Which is crazy. Busy woman. I don't know. Yeah. That's why. But that's an excuse. I want an ESPN deal where I got a leather jacket. But yeah, this is NBC and you're killing me. Okay. I wanted to say this for people that play fantasy football. This was this was the thing that really really killed me though. So Jeff has saquon Barkley and the giants were crummy against the eagles except for Barkley who was a stud and got Jeff thirty three point forty points. That was crazy. I'll take it. I've I've I've been I'm two and three in our league. I've been on the wrong end. I had bred Abbott. Go off go nuts against me with one of those kinds of game. So I know how it feels. Okay. All I care about is that don't have the biggest blow out of the weeks. I'm watching the scoreboard intently when I'm not on the air. All right because I still got seventeen points from the Seattle defense. Everybody's perform better than projected. So I like that part. Yeah. That's fantasy. That's no fantasy here. We've been trying to nail the score. This is going to be a great game tonight. What do you think happens? I want to get a quick update from Bill Bill check hold on..

"Story. Here's Jeff Biggs. Welcome back to sports Sunday on NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs pleased to be joined by our quarterback here at the network. My man Mark Malone kind enough to join us here on game day, Mark. I can't wait for tonight the Sunday night showdown on NBC from Foxborough but coming up here nine early games highlighted once again by the Steelers who are at Cincinnati, Mark. We talked about the Steelers last week. They responded at home by dropping forty one of the falcons. What did they show you in that game? And what about the Bengals off to a 4._0._1. start? Well, let's take Pittsburgh. I Jeff I thought that they had a little bit more balancing their offense. James connor. I thought had his best game of the season. Been a big band has never shied away from throwing the football. But I I don't know that you can win consistently the way that team is built by throwing the ball fifty times game. So I liked the ballots in that offense that has to continue against Cincinnati today. From a defensive perspective. They've made a few changes defensively both in personnel. And the way they've gone about calling the defense tried to simplify a little bit more that has eliminated some of the big plays. And when you have AJ green on the field, for instance in Cincinnati. That's that's going to be job one. I like this Cincinnati off to a foreign one start. But it's been my experience every time that you liked them. And you jump on that bandwagon. That's when they tend to lay an egg. Pittsburgh is his hand. Lot of success in Cincinnati. It's division game. My guess is that it's going to be a barn burner of a game. If I had to pick. I'd probably take Pittsburgh and a very close game. And clearly, given the, you know, the slow start off two of these division games. Now become extremely important for Pittsburgh. So I would imagine that they'll be ready to play in this one, no doubt. And Mark staying in the AFC north. I didn't see the ravens being held to just three field goals in Cleveland. Hey, but you know, what props to the Browns? They finally got. A big kick of their own to win that game in overtime. And they have another big home game today. Matchup and the dog pound with the chargers. Yeah. This chargers team. Nobody's talked about this chargers team. Which is interesting. I mean, Philip rivers is played at a very high level. You've got Melvin Gordon out of the backfield. You've got Keenan Allen who is one of the better pass catchers in the league. And they've done all this without Joey Bosa when Boso comes back. I think it'll make that defense even better in speaking of defenses. Listen backpack. Cleveland Browns defense has played at an elite level so far this year. Greg Williams has done a terrific job over there. They've got to they've got to find a way to get a little better in the kicking game. Clearly because that is is haunted them. I mean, you could argue without stretching it too far this Cleveland team could actually be five and Baker Mayfield. Continue. I think to to play at a good level where he doesn't turn the football over. He's he's extremely accurate. Sometimes he's a little too bold with the football. But I like this football team. I think the rosters got much better than it was a year ago. I think they will have their hands full with with San Diego who from time to time doesn't play particularly well on the road. So this one is one of the must watch games for me this weekend. Mark Bologne is with us here on NBC sports radio. Getting ready already for weeks. Six Sunday in the NFL Markham also curious to see what kind of game we get today at MetLife with Sam darnold and the jets after the blowout win over the Broncos hosting Andrew luck and the colts. Yeah, I don't know how to figure this game out because this this jets team is a bit of an enigma to me. I get it that you're gonna have ups and downs with with a rookie quarterback like Sam darnold. But I thought he played well last week they've got to continue to run the ball and try to insulate him as much as they possibly can. I've been a bit surprised with the up and down play the defensive side of the football. Todd Bowles is a defensive specialist, and I I would like to see them play at a much higher level, which would give darnold, you know, some breathing room so to speak. So we'll see where this goes again. I think the jets are making moves in the right direction. I think the roster getting better, and despite the record itself, I think Sam darnold has shown to be a guy that is mostly. Likely going to be their franchise quarterback for the next ten or twelve years. But. Again, are they going to be a are? They going to be. One of those teams that figures in the AFC east, probably not. But I think they could probably win seven games this year without any problem. All right. And we have kind of a contender or pretender matchup in Miami. You've got the dolphins who've now lost tuna row after that three star taking on the bears who are coming off their bye week after that tremendous performance by Mitchell Trubisky who threw six touchdowns against the bucks. It's funny. Big obviously, I lived in Chicago and worked there for several years, and I've got a lot of friends back there. And everybody's talking about Trubisky in the performance. He had six touchdowns. And I'm like, hey, wait a second. You don't need. Mitchell. Trubisky to throw six touchdown passes for you to win football games. Clue. Mac is transform that defense. He's I think the best playmaker on the defensive side of the football through the I certainly five weeks in the NFL. And I'm sure he'll continue to be a force to be reckoned with you've got a lot of offensive weapons on the Chicago side of the football. So you need Mitch. Trubisky to manage the game. He can't turn the football over. He can be you know, even average on third down to keep that offense on the field. I think this is a football team that if they don't sustain any major injuries going down the road. Given the way the NFC north is played over the first five weeks of the season this football team that I think could be in the conversation come the end of the year when we're talking about division championships under center during the week on with us right now, Mark below with us on NBC sports radio. All right last couple before I let you go. We've got three late games in the afternoon and kind of another put up or shut up game in Dallas get the Cowboys hosting the Jags big game for both. Yeah. Big game for both. Listen jacksonville. I you know, despite giving up thirty points. I mean, Blake Bortles turn it over five times against Kansas City that can't happen. And my guess is Doug Marrone will do everything in his power to minimize the throws that Blake Bortles has. I looked on the film of that game last week. And I was just it was it was it was embarrassing to watch the McCann. And the footwork of one Blake Bortles who I thought had Hannah cleaned a lot of that stuff up. He has not played. I didn't play particularly well last week that defense is still really good and facing a football team. It is in Dallas built around Zeki. Oh, Elliott where you know, if you're going to win a football game. He's got to touch the ball thirty times. I thought last week the Houston Texans did a really nice job of kind of minimizing his effect on the football game. And putting the game back in the hands of Dak Prescott. Who I think is a nice quarterback? But if you're going to ask him to throw the ball thirty five or forty times a game to win without receiving crew. It's not it's just not gonna work. So I like Jacksonville and this one I wouldn't surprise me if they win by ten or more points. All right. And lastly Mark tonight Sunday night football on NBC the marquee match up the patriots hosting the undefeated chiefs. Is you get telling you this is going to be a shootout or could we see a little defense? Well, I don't I mean, neither of these defenses are grain. I mean, you look you look at what Pat Mahomes has done. He's been nothing short of spectacular. He did not throw a touchdown. Last week and through a couple of interception. So apparently, he is human beyond that you have to ask yourself a question. Jeff is this guy rookie or not? I know it's his second year, but it's noxitril year as a starter. And if you could just go back and look at rookie quarterback's for instance, I think Bill Belichick is twenty five and against facing rookie quarterbacks in his career in New England. So he's got the week to prepare for Patrick Mahomes. Do you stifling completely probably not? But who's gonna make more big plays in this football game? Or or fewer mistakes, Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. It would be difficult for me to to bet against Tom Brady and this one when you say shootout, it wouldn't surprise me. Both teams scored in the thirties. I don't know what the over and under is. But it's clearly the best game of the weekend. And I'm looking forward to sitting down Sunday night and turn it on NBC. And watching that one. With with a glass of scotch and a cigar. Right. Absolutely. Like, I do every night, my friend. The over under by the way is fifty nine and a half points. Yeah. There you go. So both teams scored in the thirties would not surprise me at all on that one. All right. Well, enjoy the day today week six in the NFL is here. Enjoy it Mark. Thank you for the time is always and will listen for you tomorrow. Busy by pleasure. My Brennan joy. All right there. He is our quarterback. Mark Vallone with us here on NBC sports radio. Some great matchups on the scheduled today. The nine early games are underway. And we already have our first points on the board in Atlanta. We really do. I promise you that bucket. News falcons hit the wrong button. There we go. All right. Well, we mentioned Jameis Winston. He's back starting for the bucks. Remember he came in before the bye week after his suspension and replaced. Ryan Fitzpatrick in Chicago that game was already a blow out. But James Winston getting his first start today of the season. And Jameis Winston a fifteen yard touchdown pass to tight end Cameron -brate the point after try was no good by Chandler cat zero. And so the bucks are on top of the falcons in Atlanta early six to nothing with eleven thirty six left to go in the first quarter. So just a quick side note. I was just thinking there with that that missed extra point. Man. I I know there's always issues with kickers in the NFL. But is it just seemed like this year, you know, more than ever just like so many kickers or having bad issues and struggles in bed games. I mean Mason Crosby the Packers missed five last week in Detroit. Wow. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. I don't know what the numbers are. But I am sure it would be worth looking into like most kicks in extra points missed through six weeks of the season. I would love to see that number. We also have supports on the board at MetLife. Early jets colts jets got both teams Kim mention just one. All right. So we had. Morris Claiborne with an Andrew luck pick six to put the jets on top of the colts seven and nothing, but Andrew luck made up for it. After getting the ball back with a thirty four yard touchdown pass to Marcus Johnson. And so right now the colts and the jets are tied seven seven games. Not even three minutes old twelve sixteen left to go in the first quarter of play. And we mentioned that stat. Andrew luck has never lost four consecutive starts. He's coming into this one with a three game losing streak..

"Back to sports Sunday on NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. Great to be with you. As always we're gonna thought Cowboys here in just a moment, but quick update from Foxborough. They have reached the half. But not before Tom Brady in the offense did some more damage. Texans. Patriots Tom Brady his third touchdown pass of the game. This time to fill up door set. And the patriots are all over the Texans. Twenty one to six and what has been a really rough day for Shawn Watson and the Texans offense with high sky-high expectations coming into this season. Well, four late games coming up this afternoon, including the big one with the Cowboys at Carolina and joining us now covers the Cowboys and the NFL for the Associated Press does great work Schuyler Dixon, kind enough to join us here on a game day scholar. Thank you for coming on. And we got a little less than two hours to go from kickoff and a nice nice matchup. Cowboys Carolina so much talk has been about how loaded the NFC is. And rightfully. So, but you know, a lot of those conversations don't clued the Cowboys or the Panthers. So I think this kind of statement game for both teams. I think it's becomes an interesting match up of of these two quarterbacks when you look at it that way. Obviously Cam Newton, you know, one of the higher profile guys in the league for a long time and dot Prescott one of the best rookie seasons ever two years ago got his team to the playoffs. And now they're both sitting here kind of under the radar going into this third season for doc. Yeah. And I kind of feel for Dak Schuyler. I know you're there on the beat with the team every day. I mean, he's already getting hit with questions about his next contract. And I know that's after the disappointment from year ago after the big rookie season. I'm sure he he's just focused on bouncing back this year, but he's still taking those questions. Yeah. And it's premature I mean, if he has a great year as a Stephen Jones, executive vice president of personnel, and Jerry son said they hope he's the MVP. And then they'll figure out how they're going to pay him. But he's going to have to be the MVP. I if he has a year more like your to rather than your one than the question of what they do with him gets really complicated. If he has a great year. It's not very complicated. They obviously will feel very good about him as their quarterback going forward. But if they missed the playoffs again, if if he's, you know, more like he was last year, then he was rookie that raises so many questions and. You know, it's in a lot of ways he's been similar to Russell Wilson as you're kind of at at the track a little bit of not necessarily low around pick. But obviously not a first round pick. But the difference between the track with Russell Wilson and Dacca's at Russell Wilson won a Super Bowl in your two. So the question of paying him kind of went away right there that that question is still out there for. Yeah. No doubt. That's a great point and kind of along those same lines Schuyler. You know, obviously Zeke Elliott wants to run like he did in two thousand sixteen last season. Had had his moments, but just wasn't the same with the suspension. Yes. And the, you know, he felt very strongly about fighting the suspension the Cowboys were behind him in that Jerry Jones said several times he he did didn't hold it against Zeke for keeping that thing out there. You know, in retrospect, they would have been better off just having him. Take those six games to start the season. They were three and three. Anyway, they probably could have gone three or three without him. But instead hits just as they're playing the best. They've played all year that won three straight games. They had just beaten the chiefs. We're obviously a contender. And the chiefs were basically saying that's the best team we've seen then the suspension hits. They can't quite figure out how to win without him. They lose three in a row, and then all of a sudden in playoff for the last five weeks of the season. And we all know how hard that is to to win every one of those games. So it's a an interesting year for him. I don't think it's as interesting on the getting paid front because I think they're going to put that off as long as they can you could see the franchise tag in the future for Ezekiel Elliott, but they are banking on him in a significant way in my mind Zeki, oh Elliott is the new Tony Romo. He's the guy. You can't do without office. Very well said I read a comment. Today's said he could probably run the ball thirty thirty five times if the let him that's his goal. Well, yeah. I think it's a little bit more thirty to thirty five touch in touch. Yeah. I don't think that's unrealistic when you include the number of times he's going to get the ball thrown out of the backfield. They're going to do that a lot. He's got really good hands. He has a a very complete back. Jason Garrett talks about that a lot. He's about as complete a backers you've seen when you put the the sort of three headed monster together. Running the ball catching the ball and picking up the blitz, you know, in third down situations and things along those lines. So I mean, he's he's got it all, and you know, I I think he's one of the best backs in the league if not the best back in the league. I maybe I'm a little bit too close to it. And I don't see some of these other names that people I think tend to put it in front of of Zeke. And and certainly all those guys are good as well. But you know, this guy's the total package, and it will be interesting to see with all of last year's trauma behind him. You know, how that plays out? There are questions though, starting with the offensive line. Yeah. Yeah. I was gonna ask you about that. So we're Travis Frederick. We know he's out indefinitely. We don't know any kind of update on him. And then what about Zack Martin had the sprain during the preseason. How are they feeling going into this game today? I think you know, the three holdover pieces are all fine. Exact Martin is fine. I think within about a week and a half or two of that injury. He was getting around normally again Tyron Smith has had a healthy camp. His injury. Last year was a big part of the reason the offensive line wasn't as good as it has been Lyle Collins has looked good. He's been fine. So yeah, the two questions are looney who's been around a long time a six-year guy. So he's a better any he does his stuff. He's the filling in that Frederick spot. And that that's obviously the first place that raises a lot of questions, and then pretty close second to that is having a rookie at left guard and Connor Williams the second round pick. You know, you probably dropped a little bit more than people thought he would in the draft. I think the Cowboys feel like. Maybe they got a little bit of a steel with him. But he is still a rookie. And he's playing right beside a center who's never really been a full time starter in this league. When your offense is built around the running game the way this offense is there's no question that that's the first place you're going to look to see how things are going. And and on top of all of that what we've discussed scholar we're going to finally get our first look real look at the the Cowboys receiving crew because we really didn't see everybody during the preseason. Right. So this is kind of the unveiling today, not only did you not really see a lot of them. But I don't think you saw anything close to the kind of scheme. The Cowboys are going to be throwing out there. I mean, they they're big deal. Now is first Attila the beating people with schemes rather than with big names with Dez gone. So this is when we start to see that. And I don't I it's a huge question to me. I I I'm kind of a number one. Receiver kind of guy. I just think those those components are important. That's not to say that one of these guys won't become that number one guy. But you know, you you don't really have that yet. You've got to see it. I, and that's that's a significant question. Now, it would seem that that kind of receiving core is sort of a good fit for Dax skill set. So it might be a really good fit, and it could be from very early on that these guys look good move the ball and all that kind of stuff, but they're going to they're going to have to do it because they're going to have all kinds of matchup advantages with the emphasis on stopping Elliott. So they're gonna they're gonna need to execute those things early otherwise could get difficult for that offense. Yeah. Just to follow up to that scholar. So maybe you know, if Zeke it's going that'll maybe that'll kind of open up the passing game for Dak and maybe they can get some chemistry with some of those guys. If if Zeke is leading the way. Way. Yeah. I mean, if if if Elliot is running wild, then it's a sky's the limit kind of offense for the Cowboys because that's gonna open up everything. And and if he is doing that, you know, he's doing it against eight man fronts, probably a lot of the time. So if they can run anyway and run significantly facing that kind of a stack line of scrimmage then Dak Prescott potentially could have have a field day scholar Dixon covers the Cowboys for the AP with the team and with us here on NBC sports radio. Scotty, one of my my side jobs. I do some some work at times for the great compass media networks, they carry the Cowboys nationally and from the you know, at least during the preseason again. I know it's the preseason. But the first unit defense look pretty good during the preseason for the Cowboys. Yeah. No question. You know that that's obviously been the riddle for the Cowboys for a long time. Now, it'd be do you go back to the beginning of the Romo era in two thousand and six and for years and years and years, you know, it Tony was a he was a really good quarterback. There's no question about it. But the Cowboys never got where they wanted to go with him. They never got anywhere close. But he was good. And then there were a number of teams that relied very heavily on him. And that included the defense just not being good enough. You know as recently as two thousand fourteen when I thought the Cowboys were very close to be good enough to go to a Super Bowl again. It was the defense. They just it wasn't that they were terrible. But they just couldn't make big plays. They couldn't make game changing plays. They just weren't that much of a help. And and when push came to shove, they just couldn't get the kind of stops that they needed, you know, at the critical times to sort of finish the job. Now if. If you watch training camp and the preseason over the last couple of years, you'd have seen it just appears that more plays or made on defense. You know, I try not to read too much into that time of year particularly can't practices, but you couldn't help. But notice that there was more of that going on. And I do think that that translated at the games. So there's a lot of promise over there. You know, DeMarcus Lawrence he has really found himself. I think he's in a good place physically and mentally. So you could see another pretty big year from him, you know, David Irving, and Randy, Gregory, we're going to be constant suspension questions. But if they get anything from those two that's going to be kinda gravy from their point of view. If Sean Lee stays healthy if Kaelin Smith is back to pre injury form from his Notre Dame days if first round pick Lleyton Vander rash shows a little something. And if those young secondary guys can fake clay's necessarily..

"Sunday, NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs. The upset of the day thus far. It's not a final yet. They're still in the first half. But from the Superdome. The bucks are on top of the saints. Thirty one to seventeen the latest Tampa Bay score coming on a defensive fumble six recovery for a touchdown. But the saints aren't business fifty nine seconds left to go. They have a third and one and are in the red zone. So we will keep you posted on that the saints can cut that lead in half. Meanwhile in Indy the ageless future hall of Famer Adam venit Terry is about to attempt. A fifty one yard field goal. Try and it is absolutely good right down the middle guys. Just just unreal. Fifty one yard field goal. And the colts are on top of the Bengals now sixteen to ten one of the early moments in that game in India. He was the ejection of Bengals safety, Shaun Williams. He had a it was a really vicious head to head hit on Andrew luck. And basically luck was running didn't slide. Luck was being brought down, but he was running full speed. And as he was going to the ground shall Williams clearly leading with his head in his shoulder wanted to make contact with luck before luck hit the ground and hit him head to head and luck. Fortunately, bounced back up appears to be okay. He's he's played the game. Threw a touchdown pass to Eric Hebron later on. But we found out that the ejection of Sean Williams was not for the new helmet rule. Like, we thought it was actually just for unnecessary roughness. So the basically the NFL just said, no not the NFL reps. So now, it was just a just a dirty play a cheap shot and you're out of the game. So there's that a quick update from the Superdome. We mentioned that. The saints are trying to get back in business against the bucks buccaneers saints. And they have drew Brees a touchdown pass to Mike Thomas with fifty five seconds left. So there's still time for Tampa Bay. But trailing thirty one to seventeen the bucks. I'm sorry. The saints get drew Brees to Mike Thomas. And now it is a one touchdown game. Thirty one to twenty three with the point after try coming up. So that one like I said, even though it's an upset of the day, thus far it is clearly far from over a lot of scoring in that one halftime at MetLife stadium the Jags. And the giants thirteen to six the ravens have added another field goal by the great, Justin Tucker. They lead twenty to nothing over the bills with about three and a half left to go in the second quarter and other almost at halftime in Foxborough with the patriots taking on the Texans. They are at the half at US Bank stadium. We mentioned remember Alfred Morris. Fumbled at the goal line or right right outside of the goal line for the forty Niners. The Vikings got the ball back weren't able to score. So it is now ten to three Minnesota at the half. And we'll see if the forty Niners can get going. Others a weather delay in Miami. The dolphins and the titans that one's been a an ugly game. Not because of the weather, but just just both teams haven't looked good offensively. Dolphins are leading seven to three in the second quarter. But again, they're in a weather delay. And speaking of a weather delay. We just found out that the final round of the BMW championship today. Part of the FedEx Cup playoffs that has been completely rained out there. Trying to decide what to do or tomorrow. More coming up. I'm Jeff Biggs NBC sports radio..
