"Is Rocky's all access on a Saturday as always glad you're with us. Thanks for being with us. Mike Rice, along with the rest of the crew. Jack Corrigan will be along Jesse Thomas's here. Doug Niemeyer's Here is we talk some Rocky's baseball up until Rocky is on deck. 30 minutes from now, it'll be Game three. Rockies and Diamondbacks from Chase Field as the D'backs took the first two games last night. Both ends of that doubleheader for nothing and 11 to 5. And now the Rockies will send Airman Mark is to the mound. Luke Weaver will be the pitcher for the Diamondbacks. And then, of course, the regular season will end and the season will in for the Rockies. With tomorrow's Fourth and final game of the Syriza. Pleasure to welcome in Our Rocky's insider, Ed Henderson is presented by PVC Energy of Colorado oil and natural gas company with Colorado values Great to have you read. It has been an interesting road here since that opening couple of weeks for the Rockies and that terrific start. As you have have thought about the season and it followed this club. What are a couple of the things that you point to that That'll stand out for you over the course of the last couple of months. Well, you know, like I I would say that there's probably several things first of all the the adaptability of the players to be able to deal with this and I have to give Major League baseball and the Rockies. And for that matter, every team in Major League baseball credit for how they've handled this. This has been such a weird, bizarre, strange year. And it seems like every team has figured out a way to manage it. And I give the that organization credit for that in terms of specific for the Rockies. Mike. We've seen some great things in the short amount of time this year. We've seen the emergence of Josh Fuentes. Daniel Bard returning to the game. Rhyme. L ta Pia. What? What a season he's had and what a spark boy. He has become a start of that, Uh, it's a top of the lineup starting pitching. I think we should all be grateful for that, and we've seen a dramatic turn in that area, which is something that's been a sore spot for the Rockies for a period of time. So in 2020 is crazy years it's been. I think you got to give a lot of credit to first of all the game itself, being able to do what it did. What Specifically these individuals on the Rockies that I think have really had good seasons and, uh, even though it's been a short season, it's one that hopefully will carry over for them into 2021. Yeah, we know that there have been issues in there things that The front office has to address but in trying to do so. It's really a different kind of off season. There's so many unknowns, economically health wise and all the rest. But also it was such a small sample size compared to what a normal season is. So how does Jeff British in his staff balance the evaluation process? From this year versus what is a normal year. I think in that case, Mike, you just gotta work with what you do know and what you can calculate its taking place over the next few months. Nobody knows what 2021 is going to look like yet we We hope that the vaccine will be out soon and if it is, and it's effective, I'm hoping that we see a return to normalcy next year, and I'm sure a lot of baseball fans want to be back in the seats. Instead of necessarily sitting in front of the television watching baseball, but I think Jeff and his crew. They got some smart people down there. They're going to take a look at the obvious point. You know, you and I have talked about it over the last several shows where we know that the back end of the bullpen has been a sore spot. Guys have been chasing pitches and there've been too many strikeouts. You know the leaving runners in scoring position. And I think that will all be evaluated. And I think that crew with Jeff and his his leadership down there, they'll try to figure that out. I don't think you can approach it any other way than you have in the past. I mean, you can't make too many assumptions about what 2021 is going to look like it because none of us know and and one other thing, like I'd like to throw out as a positive for this year. And I mean this sincerely for all the folks in the Rockies Communication Department. They have done a wonderful job. They've been creative, efficient professional assume calls that you and I have to deal with in pregame and post game. Contact with the manager and players. Rockies have done a very nice job with that, and I applaud them and thank them for the good work they did this year. I agree. I couldn't agree with you more Warren Miller and his staff. Corey Little Nick Parsons. Abby Sanders. Just just amazing work and it goes unseen, but it it really is appreciated, and I think a tremendous The point that you make there. When when you look at what is is coming due and there is no way to know really. So it's It's a bit of an unfair question, because none of us really know if there'll be a lot of changes, and I'm not just talking about From the standpoint of the roster. I'm also talking or will there be any philosophical changes? Will there be any changes in approach any thoughts in the in that regard? Again. I would suspect like that. Some thoughts already gone into that with with Jeff and his team, and I'm sure sure that soon after the end of the season They will get together with buddy and coaches and try to examine what happened this year and identify what they need to work on for next year. It's going to be a challenge, because as we say there's more unknown about The future of of sports and life in America than there is necessarily Known about it. Nevertheless, they have a job to do. They've got to move forward and try to figure out how do you make a team that started out so well this year and then collapsed. Become a more consistent team. Going into the future and that there's a couple of things that you and I have talked about the struggles that they've had at Coors Field, the inability to put up enough offense both on the road and at Coors Field. All of that, I'm sure is going to be taken into consideration in a very short period of time. The folks down there at 20th and Blake know that after Ah start like this this year, that ball club has the capacity to play at a higher level than they have played in several years. And that's what they've got to look towards for the future, and there's obvious things we know like we talked about earlier. The bullpen is going to need some work it be nice to see one or two more batch arrive in the lineup. Are those people that you can acquire through a trade? Do you do that through free agency are are there people in the minor league system that perhaps can come up and help them in that regard all these things you've got to be evaluated in a very short period of time. There's nothing good about having a season end as early as the rocky season is ending tomorrow, however, the one thing that you can take away from that it gives Jeff and his team a jump on the other teams. To start looking at this. Trying to formulate Ah, valid plan for moving forward to 2021 beyond and thank you. We appreciate your appearances all year long. I want to thank you, Mike. I don't want to think a away again for for allowing me to do this. It's been fun. It's been a weird year. I've enjoyed every minute of it. And I thank you guys, and we'll look forward to seeing you again in the spring. Yeah, we'll talk soon. "Special edition as we get set for another game on the west coast. This time the Rockies are at the Padres tonight. I two at Petco park, and we'll take your right up until Rockies on debt with Jack Corrigan, Jerry Schimmel and Jesse Thomas at seven thirty Mike rice with you on Rockies countdown tonight. What a way to stop an eight game losing streak yesterday. Airman Marquez was just about perfect. He threw a complete game one hitter in that four nothing win over the giants house this pitching line nine innings. One hit no walks nine strikeouts. He did hit a man as well. Kevin pillar was the first base runner the game leading off the bottom of the six that after Marquez had retired the first fifteen San Francisco Giants to come to the plate. He was just absolute. -olutely dominating and the Rockies needed it so badly getting back on the winning track after that long losing streak. Maybe now they can all just exhale and play like, I think most of us are perhaps all of us know that they can this is still a very good baseball team that I think will be very good by the time the year, ends and the standings. I think will reflect that. But there's no doubt the last ten days to two weeks has been trying. It's been frustrating. It's been challenging and yet the Rockies are able to get a win yesterday. Now, let's see if they can string a couple of wins. Together, they go after the Padres who are off to a tremendous start going to be a lot of fun to see how they match up tonight and tomorrow at Petco park in San Diego got a good show for you planned here as we get you to seven thirty and the start of Rockies on deck with the guys in San Diego. We're gonna listen back to some of the big moments from yesterday's dominating performance by Marquez are terrific executive producer. Jesse thomas? Put together a montage of highlights from airman Marquez. We'll get to that here in just a few moments. We're also gonna listen back to Jerry Schemmel's interview with GM Jeff -british, Jerry talks with the Rockies GM every Saturday an hour before first pitch that's on Rockies all access and we're going to take a listen back to that interview as well tonight. But first we have to just relive and bask in the moment that was the shutout from yesterday. Jesse Thomas put together a collection of the big.

"Keep talking about this. It's kind of that playoff atmosphere. It's big it's the home opener people always excited expectations for the Rockies this year. And I think that comes from the top all the way to the bottom because I think the owner of the Rockies has got some excitement and some expectations as well. Absolutely does. And he talked her own Mike Reiss about that very thing. Let's hear from dick for dick. I would imagine opening day the home opener. They never get old. Do they not really? I mean, everyone's different right? We in Denver, you expect a festive attitude around town. And so no, they they never do get old. What were your thoughts about the opening trip to Florida? You know, when we went we're we're not notorious laya great Florida playing team. We didn't go in with re. Really really high expectations, and I guess to win the first two and then to somehow when that one yesterday, I guess we're we're not satisfied, but we're not down in the dumps either do as the owner ride the wave of day to day following everything the club does as I tell people, you know, I'm a fan. I so I follow what goes on. But the the little intricacies, and this that and everything else they they don't that's above my pay grade. They don't bring me in on that stuff. You leave that to the experts or I leave that to the very nice, we're worth Rockies owner, dick Mont for home opener and great weather expected that must be something that pleases you. Yeah. You know, our success at the turn style is totally up to a couple of things number one team, performance and number two weather. You know, the fact that we're going to have great weather the whole weekend is really really good. And you know. A great series. You know, we lost to LA last year on game one sixty three elsewhere to got our first division, and every one of those guys that played last year remembers that they want this. And so I think this will be an unbelievable series this weekend. And we're going to be blessed with great weather. Yes. W could news dick, we always appreciate the time. Thank you. Thank you. My. Have you five fifty four on Colorado's morning news. It's just a fun day. I like being out here. We've got so much coming up. We haven't even talked about. Of course, we'll chat with Rockies manager, bud black. You'll hear more in an extended piece with dick for Jeff -british. Will join us a little bit later on in the morning and much much more. Yeah. I love hearing about the the team the organization, but I love the always there's always something new Coors field with food or or the technology. That's there. I was just you know, they have the up there at the stadium canvas stadium and issue that makes a real big difference. You get a nice footprint, but it's not harsh very eliminating but this field, and I've been lucky to be a number of ballparks around the country. This is one of the nicest facilities it is. And all sports is gorgeous rebel got to try some of their new foods. We'll hear from him coming up at six twenty. In the meantime, it's five fifty five Patas here brought to us by Jenkins wealth management. Pat goodbye and surprise Sears is opening new stores. "I think first of all to get a look at the guys again, you know, make sure that everybody's healthy and ready to go. And I suspect that most of the staff that shows up there will be I think, you know, it it's obviously to a great opportunity to get a look at guys that you're not quite sure if they're ready for the major league opportunity just yet. And so I think there'll be a push to try to get a look at guys like Brendan Rodgers and some others to see where they are. And whether or not they're going to be a potential to contribute to the major league level team this year bummer the DJ went to the Yankees. But you've got to solidify a replacement for him. Don't you? And and who is that person, you know, April. I think that's a great question at this point. I it is too bad. The DJ left. Yeah. There's no question about that. And I think they'll be any one of several guys should I think will get their opportunities Hamson. We'll get a shot at it. I think Daniel Murphy is a question Mark as to whether or not he'll be at first or second. I think it's it you whoever is that is gonna be able to stand out at first opens up some greater opportunities at second base. But I think the the nice thing is that the Rockies have the luxury of a few guys they can take a look at. But they get some awfully big shoes to fill. No question about that. What do you expect from John gray this year? You know, Mike you, and I talked about this the other day, and I think John's going to feel the heat this year, he's got to be able to step it up. He's now, you know, a guy that's been on the major league staff for several years. You know, he's not carrying that rookie tag. I think patience is probably something that Iraqis are not going to show a lot of when it comes to John in terms of what the expectation is. So I I'm looking for him to not take one step forward. But maybe a couple I wanna see some conference out of him. I wanna see some consistency out of him. And he's got to be able to pitch and tough game critical situations, and that's something John's wacked in the past. Let's hope this year. He can make that move. Do you? Remember, Ed how you revealing at this time last year? And are you generally more optimistic ahead of this season? You know, I'm pretty optimistic April. I think that every year you give young pitchers a chance to advance their their skills makes the team stronger. And obviously, you know, we we know that Nolan will be back. You've got a pretty solid infielder. There's still a couple of questions there. But I think an outfield. It looks pretty professional in terms of what they can deliver. I would say generally optimistic, and I I wouldn't rule out that between now and opening day. Jeff British might not be looking around to see what else he might be able to bring into the fold to try to improve this team and make them even better for two thousand nineteen Ed Henderson our insider. Thanks so much. Hey, guys. Always a pleasure. Take care. Henderson sports time now checking with Mike Reiss little more Rockies baseball. All right. Thanks, Martin sports. "This is a guy that's going to be looking at what Manny Machado gets. It's winter and paying close attention to that him and his representatives Lindores guy that wants to be the face of baseball. He's as much into trying to win a World Series as he is to being involved in the community and being a great ambassador for the game. And I think that will also be the type of situation where he's looking at free agency and seeing what he can do in that market. So yeah, he's going to be paying really close attention for sure to what some of these some of these guys get this winter, and I would be pretty stunned if an extension happens between him and the Indians. Jordan. Thanks for doing this. Great stock with you. Sorry. No problem anytime about, sir. Patrick saunders. Covers the Colorado Rockies for the Denver post, and Patrick I, you know, talking with agents early in this offseason, they predicted that the Rockies would be relatively quiet this winter, and I wonder in, you know, far better than I ever would is that because of what's going on with your free agency last couple years or is it to sort of a case where after making the playoffs last year. They got some credit card bills coming due. No. I don't think it's the credit card. Bill part of it BUSTER, the Rockies as you. Well know, notoriously tight-lipped under Jeff -british, the GM they like it that way they basically have a no leak policy. I can also tell you this. If the Rockies are going to be active at least, this was the plan going in. I think it was going to be more through the trade market then through free agency. But that hasn't materialized yet either. But the feeling is in right. It's a said this often the Rockies need help on offense. He certainly believes that this team can go beyond what it did last year which was make the playoffs as a wildcard team. Then of course, they got blown out by the brewers. But they need an offensive piece to this puzzle. Probably first baseman. But so far it's been very quiet. Yeah. I wondered it d- think that they're it all gun shy about the free agent market givens. What's going on with Brian Shaw? Jake McGee Desmond. You know? I don't think so. Okay. I just don't know what the free agent market for what they want is out there. I do know that they're not gonna Dow back in and invest that much into Pitino again like they did last year, you know, hundred and six million dollars over three years for pre players was a lot for this organization and McGee and Shah will basically busts, and that was a real problem for them. I just think they know what they need either an outfielder or first baseman for the short term. And that's the key here. They don't necessarily need somebody who's going to be a five six year guy. They need somebody who can fill in for one or two years. Some of the young guys like why McMahon or Brandon Rogers start to blossom at least that's their blueprint right now. All right. It's funny because you were going through what they need a first baseman short time fill in one or two years, a guy who might have been absolutely perfect with that, Paul Goldschmidt. What's your sense of the conversation that did or didn't take place between the two teams on him? Goldschmidt was basically one call from the Rockies according to Bryant, it's and that was any, you know, any chance of Paul Goldschmidt coming to the Rockies via trade, and that that phone call lasted, oh, I don't know thirty seconds a minute. And that was it corner. Bright, it's that was really short the Rockies were just doing their due diligence to be back said absolutely no interest in trading Goldi to Colorado because they know even if it was just one year he is just rate through the years against the Rockies in particular Coors field while I don't know it feels like it's in two thousand eighteen eighth. As is one general manager said to me earlier this week if you have an opportunity to get better and make an a division rival weaker in terms of what their future is going to be why not take it. So I'm surprised that the Diamondbacks didn't explore that. So what are the priorities you see for the Rockies? Winter. Well, of course, the the big picture question. That's looming over the franchise is known are not. Oh, yep..

"Lewis and Logan on a Tuesday. And it's it's a day off for Rick for Dave for Kathy, Mike Reiss. And who do we have over here? But the one and only Jerry shemmel. Where is he? How are you sham? Good. I'm good, Mike. How you doing? I am great. It is. It is really good to have you. Thank you. Good to be with. To be with you too. Yes. They did. They have to like bribe you to work were. They were. I got a phone call. Yeah. No doubt. All right. All right. We we do hope to catch up with Broncos quarterback case keenum, and we'll see if that happens. We're gonna talk some baseball this first hour. Imagine that Jerry's here. We're gonna talk baseball. It is kind of that time of year though, sham. We're getting there, aren't we? Yeah. We I mean hot stove winter meetings now in the rear view what meetings over so he started looking forward to spring training and looking for transactions. Right. Exactly. I was going to say we're going to we're going to expect you to tell us why the Rockies haven't done anything. Jerry's got a new show believe it or not. Not like you have enough going on. But we're going to talk about that in the five o'clock hour, that's gonna be fun. I think so Mike. Yeah. I'm excited about it's called. Well, we'll talk about it. Give us a teaser. It's it's called amazing Americans and his the weekly show. It's going to ruin on Sunday mornings at eight o'clock. But just the interviews long long interview an hour long interview with amazing people motivational people people great stories that are inspiring in have overcome great odds, and we have recorded six of them so far in every one of them was blown my mind. I'm serious. They were better than they thought. He'd be just reading their stories online and doing some research with them. But these folks are just absolutely amazing people with amazing stories that will inspire you I guarantee. Wow. So we'll we'll dive into that. Because we're going to get some input from from people as they head home. That'll be coming up in the five o'clock, and then we'll just kind of carry on from there. But talk a little bit of baseball. This first hour, if you wanna weigh interview have questions, this is the guy Jerry is here. We'll talk Rockies. Thomas. Harding covers the Rockies for MLB dot com will be with us here in about five minutes or so after traffic at four fifteen got the whole cast and crew grant is with us, the one and only the fabulous the extraordinary technical producer grant. You know, you are you're so everywhere, we don't even need a last name. I do know your last. Yeah. Le- let it be. I'm just grant whose everywhere right now grant who's ever. Well, that's what we are to exactly. So we've we've solved all of that. But but Cory Lopez will be along with news, John Morsi traffic, and Dave Rick Kathy dragon be K. See now, Jerry, I'm trying to figure out how this works. Dave, Rick, Kathy. Brandon dragon five of them. And it's you me and grant, okay. How many so weird like pulling double double duty? I gotcha. We take their cumulative salary for one day. I'm down for five salaries together, and we'll split it through. I could I can handle that. If you want to join in three zero three seven one three eighty five eighty five toll free. We do have that line. Eight five five seven one three eighty five eighty five Jerry on Twitter year, J J shemmel six okay at J Shamil six at 'em rice KOA if you to reach us there you can. But let's let's kind of dive into the baseball. The first question that I have is the Rockies. We we so often want to see them make a move just to feel like they're accomplishing something. But they do have some things to accomplish specifically on the offensive side. Are you optimistic that Jeff brightest will be able to address that in a satisfactory way? I might say that they have offensive issues. It's just so strange. Talking about pitchers. You're right starters. The relief gore at this time of year. But yeah, I do and for a couple reasons I think number one is that Jeff has a short history as a GM obviously with the Rockies, but he's not afraid that history tells us to make a bold move. I mean, picking up the the relievers he did last year in the in Desmond the year before now, whether those are great moves or not he's out there being aggressive, and I think that's going to continue the other thing that tells me, yes, it's going to work out satisfactorily, Mike is that he came out. And maybe told you this but a month or so ago, the heard the media read at the newspaper he said don't plan on this team looking the same as it did last year right that Jeff British when there's smoke. There's fire that about the guy. So I think he is he's he's trying to be aggressive and work in the back room to to get that done to improve the offense. We just haven't seen those those moves yet. And you see that along with the fact that all the other most other teams haven't done that either. I mean, very few deals have gotten done either free agency or trades at this point in the season. Remember, it's just the third week in December. So there's a lot of time before spring training. A lot more time before the regular season starts, and it also seems to be which I think is good from an industry standpoint that the pace of spring training in the transactions will be much better and much more. Like it always has been after a really slow year last year. Exactly. Right. If if you call last year, Mike, you know, this is that things got done well into spring training in fact for a couple of key guys into the regular season before key guys got either signed as a free agent or traded four. So yeah, I think these things take longer than they do probably a few years ago. It's just the nature of the business, and especially after last year like you said, I think we looked to have the same happened again in two thousand nineteen we wanna flip our attention to football for just a few moments. Always a pleasure to welcome in the quarterback of the Denver Broncos case keenum who is with us case, it's Mike rice, and Jerry shemmel. How are you? I'm doing well guys, y'all doing very well. Disappointing obviously against Cleveland on Saturday night, as you sort of have looked at the film and kind of thought about it any anything in particular come to mind as far as kind of what happened there down the stretch. Yeah. You know, obviously disappointed like you said. I said how I felt after the game. And then watching, you know, watching a film, I feel the same way. I was I'm still pretty angry. You know, frustrated there's there's one or two plays that I think make the difference in that game. You know, we come out with a win, and that's tough to swallow. But you gotta learn from it grow from it. We got a lot of young players, and we've got a good up to grow and and really mature matures football team this next two weeks. Yeah. And not to make excuses because I know you have confidence in all your guys. But but is it an adjustment for you? When you're playing with the number of young receivers, you are and have been. You know, those guys, you know, they're not rookies anymore now full trust in them. You know, and you can you can say all these things about them being rookies of being young inexperienced will Heckman they're hungry, and you should see their is when they're looking at me the huddle, and you know, the way they they wanna get coached up. They want me to come over and say, hey, this is what I saw what did you see? So I think we're building a really really good foundation of trust and respect and talented record like words fall day, Sean has got some juice in between the hash is trust me. Patrick. You know day in and day out. So I'm excited about what the future holds with those guys. Yeah. No doubt. We're with Broncos quarterback case keenum here on Lewis and Logan case when you look at the raiders, what do you see on film? You see a team that's still battling. Yeah. For sure, you know, it's similar to us. And that. You know, you go back to what seems like a maternity go game that we played them. And you know, there's a lot of new faces. You know, obviously, they've had injuries mother thinks that you know, they've dealt with. But you know, they're they're working their way. You know, play was different guys too. So. But with that being said, man, they're playing art. You know, they're not they're not playing like a team, you know, that you're been knocked out of the playoffs awhile ago that they're playing art. So we gotta work it up. I know it's easy to say. This group is still together. Now that we know for sure the playoffs are no longer possible. Do you do you believe that in the locker room? You guys will prepare the right way. Go through the process the right way and play hard coming up against the raiders. Yeah. There's no doubt. We will. We're all pros, man. There's there's not a guy in the locker. That's not a not a professional. The didn't have just extreme cried it really care about what you know what they're doing. You know, we all love the game. There's a lot of guys that love love to play. You know, we're all fighting, you know, real jobs, and that's been that way. But. You know, it's still that's still the case now. So we all know that we've got everything on the line. Every time we go out there. They want and we're that way for the next few weeks. No doubt. And as you said, I mean, you guys have been in the league. And know what happens this time of year? Do you guys all think about whether or not coach Joseph? We'll be back next year. You know, I I can't speak for my teammates. You know? I think it's a it's a situation where you know, anytime you're on any team in this league. You know, it's a production business. You'd have produced to stick around to keep jobs. So we all know that every time we step on the field every time that still gets turned on a resume. That's you know, that's what people are watching. "To digest the Rockies season and kind of get over the disappointing end with the sweep to the brewers. And now the excitement I think not only of award season with the two gold glove winners DJ Nolan and then the three silver sluggers Nolan are not Trevor story airman Marquez. But now we get into the off-season moves in what do the Rockies do what should they do? And we're just going to spend a little time on this. The first thing Justin is Nolan are not sure, and I do agree that with Jerry that it is imperative that at some point soon, and I don't know of soon means this off season you'd like to be. But I just don't know because there's your if you're. The Rockies you're obviously dealing with the player in Nolan, but but you've got to figure out and find out does he want to stay here. Is there a scenario by which Nolan would be happy signing a longer term deal? And I, but I mean, traditionally, you would think all right six to ten years. But I don't know maybe they overpay for a shorter deal because Nolan. I mean, for instance, would would they entertain paying a hundred and twenty million over three years. I'm just throwing out ideas. And that way he gets another big deal when he's twenty nine years old. Yes. So and more. Yes. Is that something that no one would be interested in? I don't know. I mean, we're just chewing the fat here round the fire two guys talking baseball. Not sure exactly how realistic any of this is. But let's let's listen to some comments from Jeff -british and his conference call last week with reporters, and I asked Jeff about. The desire to keep Nolan the desire to talk with him and his representatives this off season. And how important that is? And. And we'll get to those comments. Because the I mean, this is this is key. And this is 'British Jeff rightish the Rockies GM talking about working with Nolan to kind of gauge that interest and whatnot in the off season. He works. I think we've been. Us meeting the front office and. Meaning. All that. I think we made a decision to. Discussions during the season not press issue. And and keep it focused on the oaks for him. We knew that that we're going to be discussion at some point this off season or postseason. I expect that there will be, you know, we would guardian gauge to over the years with, you know, just kind of going back and forth a little bit as I've I think I've hinted at or mentioned in the past that there have been some conversation. And and they've been good conversations. They've been honest conversation. They've been adults forthright. I mean, everything's been above board that way, I think for both sides. So I would expect that to continue. It's not like there's a perfect timeline or specific timeline. But. You know, we love to have him here. And. We'll see what happens. So that's Jeff bright is talking about conversations with Nolan. I thought it was interesting. If I heard Jeff right David it sounded like they've exchanged some figures some potential figure. Sure, right so parameters some well, what if this or possibly this Jeff also talked about how important it is to or or what the impact might be. If they go into next year with Nolan on the last year of his contract one of the possibilities. Right. And I think that's just part of our reality. And and I think. You know that that might be a good question at some point for known. How he thinks about it that way, but every player handles the sort of situation differently. And I would imagine that the. No. Thirty teams have maybe a little bit different type of philosophies on this sort of situation. Everybody's not everyone's probably the same across the board. I think we're pretty realistic and pragmatic this organization. I think now we understand what what could happen in in the range of possibilities and you make. The best situation. I think we're focused on won't being here with us and competing for playoffs again, competing for the title. Like we did this year this past season. I mean, I think that's that's all art of our term vision. So. Things that are difficult in this game. But. It's part of it's part of the industry. It's part of the game. So you, you know, you. Well, you you make the best of it. And and also make the best of it because he's a pro and. My before. So that's Rockies. GM? Jeff bright is talking about the the idea is if Nolan goes into the last season or this season on the final year of his deal without a long-term or an extension of any kind the chances exist. The chance exists that the Rockies could lose them to free agent. Sure they can. So what you do is you go, and you meet with his representatives, and you go with the meeting you come with a figure like this four years one hundred fifty million dollars for years one hundred fifty million dollars. And the reason why I say four years is that's the last year that you have cow Freeland as well as Herman Marquez under control. You go all in with this guy. Right. But, but I don't I don't know that at this point. I mean, I don't know that you go in with a specific. Here's what we're doing. I think it's a little bit bigger picture than that. At least I'm thinking out loud here because instead of saying, hey Nolan. Here's our offer. It's more. Like, I don't know. What what are you thinking what what might work? I mean, here's a possibility. We could do a shorter a shorter number of years, but a higher average salary. We could go all in with a six eight to ten year deal. If you feel like you wanna commit that long to being here. You're basically your whole career, you know, what are your thoughts? And and I think part of the equation is what is Nolan wanna see as far as the front office. Putting a team around him if we were living in fantasy land, and we had no money at our fingertips, and we were able to make moves number one. I will go and get Paul Goldschmidt immediately. But when. Trade for Paul Goldschmidt. That's a one year deal. That's a one year fourteen point five billion dollar deal that you're with them. Maybe you would hope you could be able to resign him. But you want to show that you're going to be aggressive to get talented players on the roster and to go after after the division you cannot win the World Series. If you're not going to win the division. We've seen it last year. Well, that's not true. That's just patently. Not true. I mean in today's day. I mean with the teams that we saw come on. Let's be honest with the teams that we saw you're not going to walk in the wild card and go up against the Boston Red Sox gets the Houston Astros. You don't have to play those guys. I you play in the National League for see. I disagree with that. I now it's harder. And we saw that this year that it's harder to go through as the wildcard team son impossible to win the World Series. Just because you don't win your division. It's. I I I would I would argue with that the reason why I say that is because you saw this team at the at the end of the year and get it. They had to go to LA play a game there for the division had to go on a wildcard is Chicago. But they were tired. They looked like a tired dare couldn't hit. So what's the best way to make sure you get that rest? When did I know? But right, but the the hitting woes probably would have continued had they not been in the wild card. I don't think that was simply a product of fatigue. Maybe it was a little surprised we're going to pick up on this conversation. If you want to join in three zero three seven one three eighty five eighty five it's Lewis and Logan. It's KOA NewsRadio. Hi, folks, Dan, Chechini. Oh my gosh. How could it be that? "Morning and wet now on Colorado's morning news. Rocky fans dealing with a tough exit from the playoffs. If you're getting swept by the brewers in the NFL DS, but they are ready for next year already mixture. Of course, you bring everybody back, maybe another key piece. And obviously they're good enough. They just had a rough series visiting pointing absolutely absolutely. There's always next year though, couldn't get the bats go in this series. Unfortunately. But that is what it is. So the walkie played a pretty good series. So you're not down on your Rockies. I love Iraqis. Hate to lose Rockies. Earning ninety one wins in the regular season. Winning the National League wild card game before finally falling to Milwaukee. Their final loss was six nothing game. At Coors field on Sunday manager butt-black black says, even though they came up short in the NFL DS the way the Rockies played down. The stretch is a good place to build for next season. Experience is the best teacher. Right. Think. How we how we played in September. Was was great. I thought we had a great September. We pitch well on September. We got our hitting shoes on a little bit at times in September. You know, the games against you know, that that last series against the Diamondbacks here against the Phillies in the nationals where we felt as though we had to win every game. To keep pace with all the teams fighting for a playoff spot. We we handled that. And then there was a little tough road road ahead of us. And you know, dodgers beat us. We beat the cubs and the brewers Scotus. So it's, you know, pretty. Self evident. What happened? But again our guys played their butts off. Now, they really did just didn't happen like it was a cold gray Sunday, which started off Sunday at a miserable way. And then you know, we saw the Broncos lose turnover and we see the Rockies lose. But the two losses were really two different kinds of losses or weren't. They for sure and we'll get into the Broncos in a minute. I think in general you really have to on the one hand keep the rocky season in perspective. It was a great year. Yeah. And you know, ninety one wins as as you does butt-black just said they win the wild card. It's awesome, second straight playoff appearance. But it certainly was a disappointing series part of it is you credit the brewers I think part of it too. And I'm sure the Rockies will do this. They every team does I think you look at what happened in the brewers series with the complete breakdown of the offense. And you say can we identify anything that that we can potentially try to address and fix? So that hopefully doesn't happen again. I mean, you keep it all in perspective because these guys were terrific for six months. Months on balance. But we don't for three games. It was a real struggle for sure. Even in that series. Even though they struggle to me. That's not a personnel problem as much as it was that sometimes you get hot and cold in the season. But picking up on the personnel problem. You kind of alluded to this offer it all in the off season. If they're gonna do some tweaking with the roster it all begins and ends with Nolan. Oh, I think so I mean, I think you have to get a feel for what Nolan would want to do. And and I don't I mean if they can sign him to a long term extension this off season that would be I think the number one goal. But if he's either not ready or not willing to commit and say, I will do that. Or at least give you a pretty good indication. If you go into next year with a completely unknown you're running the risk of having a pretty good season. And then I guess ultimately not getting anything for him. If he then leaves his a free agent after the year. So you know, what they do would say DJ LeMay, Hugh, I think is related to that. Because I don't think they wanna hole at third base or potential ones. And then also lose a gold glove. Second baseman who by the way swings. A pretty good bad as well. So again, I think anybody who looks at the Rockies and their contractual situation with some key players sees that Nolan's kinda the Lynch pin of that. And things at least the way I look at it builds off of that. Right. And and cargo at another one of the I think the TV announcer said that'd be the last time we go in at bat mean, Geraldo, par I had a motto vino could very well be gone DJ LeMay who could very well be obviously they signed Charlie to the six year extension before or during the season. I guess that came out. But but I think that again, I don't I'm not privy to the timeline of those talks. But I I do think it was curious that that got done the year before he was up because his contract was coming up. And so, you know, we'll see how Jeff 'British and his staff approach all this. I do know this that they've talked about all these things internally already. I mean, that's just commonsense. They're not Jeff's not going into this all of a sudden. Now, it's early. Tober and start working on some of these things. I mean, he and dick Mon have clearly been in communication, and I haven't even been told that that's just how teams operate. They are always looking ahead seeing. All right. What are we gonna look like come spring training next year? It's gonna be real interesting. I see this is a really a pivotal off season. But also an off season with a lot of different changes and moving parts. I mean, you got you got guys in the bullpen that need to have bounceback years next year. Brian Shaw, Chris Russ and Jake McGee notes. Those guys are good relief pitchers that had bad years. We give the thumbs up to the Rockies because I still think it was a success successful. Then you look at the Broncos and think where to go from here. Yeah. I mean, isn't that an interesting one is we get to some sports. I mean, the Broncos fall to the jets thirty four to sixteen third straight loss. I mean guys it was just bad. I don't I don't know. How else to put it three touchdowns of thirty five yards or longer three hundred twenty three rushing yards allowed head coach? Vance Joseph told voice of the Broncos Dave Logan after the game. It can't continue. Let me ask you one. Final question and a tough question. Do you at this point of the season? Do you see any changes coming up? Absolutely. It's going to be some changes. I'm not sure what they're going to be. But you can't move. Games and wrote a we lost a day and not make some changes. So we'll see we'll fly back home watch the tape and see what we all. And after talking with Dave coach Joseph told reporters at the stadium. He's not considering any defensive or changes to his defensive coaching staff. We'll see where all of this goes all the post game comments from coach from Dave linked to the KOA. Newsradio Facebook page. Dave will join us at seven forty one. "Weather station Final moments of Lewis and Logan on this Friday Mike Reiss Justin. Adams filling in the gang is back on Monday started training camp tomorrow but man oh man the Colorado Rockies have been red hot and they welcome in a red hot. Oakland A's team to. Coors field for the first of three tonight Oakland has won six consecutive games voice to the, Rockies Jack Corrigan with us from twentieth and Blake gearing up Jack it'll be fun you know this is an interesting Oakland. Club that I don't think anybody expected them to be where they. Are right, now but they have fashion themselves into a contender in the American League cow They, have done it with their. Bullpen primarily and they hit the long ball and they score late I mean this, is a team that knows how to. Come, back in games they have had. More wins than anybody else in the majors down by four or more runs in so when you do things like that obviously you're hanging in there. The bullpen, helps you hang in but you also have to be able to score the, runs and. Like I. Said they can hit the long ball, and they're a good late inning team yeah I'm looking at their lineup. And I see one two three, four five six guys in double digits eight hitting the long ball so what will call freely and have to, do, what order to. Be successful, tonight a keep that that baseball park today well certainly against the right handed hitters he needs to have his, slider with its good down action in the cutting movement of that fast Ball in, on the right handers but he has to continue to have the. Confidence she has shown in that change up that has been the biggest development for Kyle here in. The second big league season the ability, to throw the changeup especially. To right handed batters but we, have seen him do that the left eases well he's done. A wonderful job of, keeping hitters off balance Jack go back to the Seattle series before the. All-star, break the Rockies extremely competitive I mean they swept, one, of, the, better, teams in the American League, an outstanding series against Houston. Here recently just this week at Coors field and more particularly some of that Lodo, magic may be coming back is that. Is, that sickle called do you think. Because we hadn't seen a lot of that through the course of the early part of the season Yeah I you know I think that's always a part. Of, baseball the contagious factor the as people have been talking about their, late inning. Rallies being, a contagious thing were they have fed off of each other, to come up with the victories you, get walk off home runs you get late rallies, against good teams it is a confidence boost I think really though Mike in the? Case of this? Team it was more about them finding their footing I it to me it's not like they have Surprise people like you could say with Oakland I mean you could maybe even, say that with Philadelphian Atlanta not that those, teams don't, have talent but people. Didn't expect it to happen this quickly, or to still be there in, late July I think based on last year in the talent available a lot of people not just here in the Denver area. But. A lot of people in baseball thought the the Rockies were going to be. A, good, ball club, in and for whatever the reasons were in. The first two, months underperformed a little bit and had the tough June. Really for me over these, last six weeks it's been this is the team I expected watching them in spring training and it's manifesting itself, right now and it's coming at a. Good time with all the. Very competitive series that they're, going to have the rest of, the season definitely we're speaking with Jack Corrigan. The play by play. Voice of the Colorado Rockies And you talk about it right the last six weeks the Rockies have been. Just playing great baseball but then you do look at the schedule and, they don't play it's that's below five hundred at this point. Until they, play San Diego I think that's saying late in, August so what would the Rockies have, to do in order to keep on playing great baseball and keeping their name of top the. List of the National League well there's no question Justin, it's an old adage in baseball but it through all the, years it's why it's there because it's been proven true that your momentum is based on your starting pitching the guy getting the ball that night and if you look at the Rockies over the stretch where they've had the, best record in the National League and not, just for, a week or two. But for a long stretch of time, now they've had the best ERA, among their starting pitchers of anybody of any team in the National League and and and that's what's going to cure you this. Team. Always has been able to hit even in the lean years and they've also Fortified the bullpen with. Some of the acquisitions in the off season starting to find their footing, beyond way Davis But you you get sewn one old joining the group starting tomorrow night you now have the pitching that matches up with your offense and the offense has gotten better because Trevor stories turning into a star and any and Desmond. Relaxed in doing his thing makes this a very formidable line-up final moments with voice of the Rockies, Jack, Corrigan we'll have. Coverage of the as in? Rockies straight up at, six o'clock here on KOA you mentioned oh and, his acquisition what's your gut tell you perhaps another move Jeff -british either wants to make or will make, well I. Think if there, is something that he truly believes is, going, to benefit the team then then. Yes, he would but I mean you sit there and you talk about well they could fortify their starting pitching well they're going to fortify their starting pitching when chat bettas comes off the DL that gives you a a solid big league veteran who now no Knows how, to pitch in in tough ballgames you're gonna get DJ LeMay Hugh back who's been a batting champion and, a multi. Yo time all-star, so in in those two areas I, don't, really see them doing something it. Doesn't, mean it won't happen if there's a deal that shows up that's one that's gonna make the team better not only short term but long term Forest, wall. And jets Bamberger have a chance to be big league, players they're probably anywhere, from two to five years away from the big leagues so to just give away a couple. Of, prospects for for Sony someone always, is. A great trade gives it didn't really cost them anything but the, last two months of those contracts. So if there's. Another opportunity. Like that, out, there, sure Jeff's going. To. Do, it to make the team better but if. It's not I think, he, likes where his team is and where he thinks it's, still was going ahead yeah I. Don't think there's any question Jack we appreciate the. Time we look forward to not only tonight's game but the weekend can be fun one against Oakland. Thank you all right Mike Justin, always a pleasure anytime guys very goes. Voice of the Rockies Jack Corrigan he Jerry shemmel Jesse Thomas our executive. Producer the dead man here in the studio Doug Niemeier will have, the call Oakland In town for the first. Of three against the Rockies and it'll be right here on KOA, some six minutes from now and then. Tomorrow then Sunday going to be, a lot of fun I mean this is. This is a series granted it's late July let's. Not. Overdo it it's gonna be a fun series and a, series with two of, the top teams in baseball hottest team if the Houston Astros series shows you there's going to. Be, a lot of excitement and buzz, chorus. Field make your way out there but I come to a you, know UC how training center seat. Training camp with. The Denver. "The internet should remain neutral meaning cable companies can't blocker slow downs services to decides based on who they like or whose paying them critics say that policy hampers freemarket competition and that perhaps giants like netflix should pay more to have their content streamed the new head of the fcc who once worked for rising has suggested removing that utility tag abc's brad mielke reporting the governor will name a new judge today to fill a hole on the colorado supreme court three women are on the shortlist to replace allison eid who's now on the tenth circuit court of appeals she was tapped to fill the vacancy left by neil gorsuch after he was picked for the us supreme court the governor will make the announcement official this afternoon at the state capital d i is doing it far too big tobacco holidays fun at the airport and put this morning they released a short video where they are invited fliers into their holiday retreat area nets called does zan room the it had these people inside they thought they were showing up to play football trivia football when his voice who is that guy who showed up as it was peyton manning to say at alot taken selfie signing autographs dia is trying to make the most of it by getting folks to look at the video on promoting them with their hashtag denzel then okay from football the baseball is their interest from other major league teams rockies outfielder and free agent carlos gonzalez we talked with gm jeff 'british earlier and he says the focus for most teams that baseball's winter meetings has been pitching there has been little movement on position players like cargo routes konnov still moving a glacial pace and and their may you know there may be warner or to signing shearer sharon who knows that kind of kick things off um but uh but everything still seems pretty close to this point the market will largely determine whether cargo returns the rockies go somewhere else next season for now it's just too early to tell kuchma jared policies supporting the the idea to move the bureau of land management out of washington dc police tell cbs 4 that much of the b l and land is in the west which is why the headquarters should be in the west i would say that the closer the b l m is to the.

"Basically sets a policy which will uh get people to sit up and take notice um it's not going to get through the senate because the open borders of crowly illegal lobby the democratic party uh is going to uh the filibuster it in the air it won't get through but i think it's a it's a it's a good thing to uh schuster votes on indosuez who's gonna vote of what one or the other that's a great point but if that it's a worthy exercise if nothing else you see where people stand you know you know the the the illegals is this i i mean i used to be a democrat i i was the overcrowded in two thousand twelve the room for state so it is that we're trip but i have less the party because i do not support this uh open borders phrase gina switch uh the democratic party has as its it's really the only consistent since we'll see that the democrats support is this illegals business and i just think it's it's nuts the democratic party is this lost his seat should have let's see it's a rico out now they're they're out there uh pro supporting illegals i i just think it's it's outrageous was there anything in particular the ten of the seal the deal for you in regard to the democrat party was them some particular instance uh in that regard that you said i i did support this anymore you know the the the the whole immigration thing has a number of oh aspects there's the illegals who come across the border thursday illegals should come across the jeff british the piece over six there's the uh work visas and what mr obama did uh.

"Rockies are nibbling on the edges of the trade market they are being as aggressive as we have ever seen the rockies but that's larry very low bar to set i have said on this show before that i think the rocky should have been should be and should have been now that the deadline has passed more all in and maybe dangle a ryan make man to try and get a starting pitcher because that's really what ails them is starting pitching but the rockies are going to do that that's not who they are let's not even who jeff bright aeges so okay you take what you have a couple of good moves here's the rockies thinking okay we get knee shack and you couple him with greg holland and jake mcgee who is just place on the 10day deal when he comes back and then you figure you know what i have at least the eighth and ninth probably the seventh to pretty i feel good about it if you're jeff 'british and the rockies k now the issue with the rockies is that their starters i mean look at cal freedland yesterday he picks up a winning only goes five innings 'gattaca longer than that so what the rockies are hoping is we get me shack so maybe that allows the bullpen to be a little bit stronger on the back and maybe we can go mcgee seventh knee shack eighth in grey holland in the ninth all of a sudden now it's a seveninning game are starters can go far four five at least you hope that their eligible for win by going five so we go five then we bring in jonathan lou cry who is a better catcher by all accounts the nate walters or tony walters i'm sorry thinking basketball tony walters or ryan hannigan so now maybe luke can get that extra inning out of the starting pitchers and now you have starters going six instead of five live and then you've got these three guys at the back end of the bullpen and now you're worried about just one any pretty consistently and then is there somebody like an atom odd avino whose god bounce back i had a i adam odd avino has to find something these last couple of months of the season so that's the rockies idea here it's not hard to see now like i said i i disagree with that thinking i say you know it's better than trying.

"To do all that leveraging some of your young talent like a ryan make man whose natural position is third you have the best third baseman in the game standing there it like the cubs when they made the deal with the tigers they had in wales will have to help me out the third baseman dan dad the cubs have playing at iowa stuck behind chris bryant right he's never going to get to play at least you don't hope so now i know ryan make can play other positions primary positions third guess what nolan arnaldo is right there so i would have liked to see them throw that peace out there and may be they get say sunny gray who ends up with the yankees although that hall back for the asians was pretty good or maybe they at least engage the rangers enough that they force yu darvish to use his no trade protection but from all accounts the rockies weren't even to that point they were not willing to dangle those pieces so in one sense i'm frustrated because i think if you have a chance to win you should but on the other hand i think they made two low risk high reward in not really that sorry really going to be that much of an ask for knee shack or luc reuter to produce at ways they at produced in the past i don't think so solid moves not game changing and here's the other thing with jeff 'british is thinking and i don't agree with this again i'm in if you have a chance to go all and go all and baby and then try to restock the cupboards in the next couple of years the rockies even if they get past the diamondbacks in game one 163 which i don't love that notion at this point jd martinez has been just an unbelievable addition to that team but if they get past arizona yeah i believe we can get past arizona but then we have to play la and then we're giving up a guy that we believe can be a factor for us for a decade in ryan mcmahon certainly brand and rogers would fit that bill as well.
