"That struck me You're going to really admire the work that harrison ford does as the general manager Ricky because he he he does one of the great if he doesn't get some type of at least nomination for The co starring role. He had that movie. I'll be very surprised. One of the better movies. I think he's ever made in the one disappointing as well as it was for the branch. Rickey play the the thing that disappointed me. More was the fact that when they utilize players they really only had robinson. And pee wee reese To any degree but they went down the lineup. And they named do snyder and so forth. but then when they showed one of the actual batters they show jeeter maskey who was really a a sort of not not a backup player. But not what you would call it a frontline player for the dodgers and they had him hitting right handed. So how can you make a movie and you don't even get the details right. gene was. Yeah it's it's a shame that so many movies. Some things like that and they say blithely. Will you know it's just the movie. Yeah but you gotta sell show the truth well along with movies. You'll often find these completely confidential conversations between two people in office without having a tater tate and the confiding security secrets back and forth in the film. And you say wait a minute. How do they know exactly what was said. Secret conversation with the doors closed. Nobody listening in and duplicating all the words that were said. It's pure bunkum. Some screenwriter put together in his mind nation. That's all right. I always admire bridge rookie. I thought he was one of the greatest of all the baseball general managers. I always thought he was. He was maybe the greatest of all time. And i just thought harrison ford did touch a terrific job. Not only Basket his his dialogue but the way he carried themselves and so forth. I never had a chance to really interview or talk to branch. Rickey saw them many times but never really interviewed them. How about you. Did you get a chance to talk to him. No i never never did meet them in. No i'm going to say about the movie to done bob. You talk about this done. Though the one thing they did not portray well. And i think bob but when you see the movie you'll probably be a little bit disappointed to the way they portrayed the red barber Some of the scenes of him broadcasts and the dodgers Not not very close. I know you knew. Read probably pretty well up You had a distinctive style and they just didn't quite get that either. Yeah how did how did they Portraying actors guys. tv don. Maybe you can explain an eye. Candy an accurate a lot but not a big name but i just was not very good he. He just didn't have any real feel for what red barbara was all about. And and the only Just trying to think back dak. It's been a few weeks a month since i saw the movie. But he did use The one phrase that the red bar used all the time. What was it like In the catbird. Use that a bunch of times..

"Up everybody. Welcome back into this segment so as you just heard. We just talked about derek. Jeter play known as the flip and the reason that it really actually happened was because of the nine eleven attacks which we just had the twentieth anniversary of and the start of the playoffs was delayed. In the season's end was extended past these walked over timeframe and because of that the yankees advanced to the two thousand one world series to face the arizona diamondbacks game four mark. The time marked the first time that any non exhibition. Mlb game had been played in the month of november and an extra innings. Jeeter hit a game winning home. Run off of breed. Sheehan kim and the words. Mr november flashed on the scoreboard alluding to the former yankee legend. Reggie jackson whose nickname. Obviously as mr october despite the homerun though jeter slumped the plate he denied injuries. Were factored though a fall into the photographers box. Trying to catch. A foul ball may have aggravated an earlier. Hamstring injury jeeter hit just a buck. Forty eight in the world series as the lost in seven games. Jeter hit two ninety. seven with eighteen. Home runs seventy five. Rbi one hundred and twenty one runs scored one hundred. Ninety one hits career-best thirty two stolen bases. During the regular season. He led the major league in stolen. Base percentage with a ninety one point four percent getting caught only three times and he made his fifth all-star appearance in the two thousand two season. Excuse me the anaheim. Angels defeated the yankees and the lds on the way to winning their world series from two thousand and three to two thousand eight. Is this next section. We're going to be talking about today. On opening day of the two thousand three season jeeter dislocated his left shoulder when he collided with the toronto blue jays. Catcher ken huckabee huckabee. Excuse me at third base and he was placed on the on the dl for six weeks. In ms thirty six games he had never played fewer than hundred and forty games. Prior to in the prior fool seven seasons jeeter returned to bat three twenty four finishing third in batting average to bill to bill mueller. Who had a three twenty six average and manny ramirez. I believe finished second steinbrenner. Then named jeeter. The captain the yankees on june third of two thousand and three following eight seasons out captain after don mattingly retired in one thousand nine hundred five that postseason. Derek jeter batted. Three fourteen with two home runs five. Rbi and ten runs scored across seventeen games including three hits in game. Three of the o. Three world series against the florida. Marlins all the only three hits josh beckett actually allowed during the game jeter committed a crucial air though in the game six loss. And the marlins won the series in six games the yankees then went out to acquire. Alex rodriguez from the texas rangers in the three. Oh four season. Rodriguez had two. Gold gloves are already at shortstop and was considered the best shortstop in baseball derek. Jeter though who had no gold gloves at the time remained the team. Starting shortstop alex rodriguez moved to third. Base rodriguez is fielding range. Allow jeter to succeed. Grand to his right to rodriguez and she to his left. Feeling balls to his left as a weakness in that was identified by scouts. So it was. That was one reason why they ended up deciding to do that which i mean. Yeah he cheat a little bit more. but honestly i'd rather have just a short staff that i know can get the ball. The aki get the ball. If i'm going to be honest with you. Like i i know. He's the captain but he doesn't have to be the starting shortstop i know he's been at shortstop we could put them at second base instead. Find another third baseman. Maybe i would have much rather i rather have seen. Alex rodriguez at shortstop Especially after his first few seasons in the mix but regardless jeter is at shortstop and a-rod is now at third base then. Rodriguez is fielding. Range was very good for the yankees but the thousand four season began with jeeter mired in a slump and at one point only getting one hit in a span of thirty six. Abc's through april. He hit one sixty and his improved to seventy seven by the all star break in july jeeter. Made the all star team and finished the season with a two ninety ninety-two average twenty. Three home runs the second most of his career and seventy eight. Rbi's one hundred eleven runs scored career-best forty four doubles which broke the yankees single season record for doubles by a shortstop besting. Tony kubiak thirty. Eight and nineteen sixty one or excuse me yet is. Cuba is cubic. I think the attorney kubrick's thirty eight sixty one. But he batted three sixty wine with a team leading four. Rbi as the yankees defeated the minnesota twins in the two thousand four lds jeeter struggled in the ale hitting only two hundred with one extra base hit as the yankees lost the series to boston. Red sox in seven games despite winning the first three. And we'll definitely go back and look at that Probably more toward the time of the ale the s. Because that's just a story that i got to cover But i'd have to recover. I should say. I wanna bring that that one out back out to forefront. I guess you could say but in the twelfth inning of a tied game on july first two thousand and four against their rivals. The boston red sox trot nixon hit a pop fly down the left field line and ran from his position at shortstop to make an over the shoulder catch and he watched himself over the third base side railing in two rows and into rows of seats receiving a lacerated chin and bruised face the yankees went on to win the game in the bottom of the thirteenth and this play was voted the play the year in this year in baseball awards. Competition as voted on by fans. Mlb dot com following the. Oh four.

"That you became friends to the extent that the new york times journalist jack curry commented rarely have to higher profile opponents. Been this close. Rodriguez described as being like my brother. Even though they were on the field at bursary or adversaries excuse me before the nineteen ninety seven season jeeter and the yankees agreed on a five hundred forty thousand dollars contract with performance bonuses becoming the eighties. Leadoff hitter jeter batted two ninety. One with ten home runs seventy. Rbi one hundred sixteen runs scored and one hundred and nine hundred hits that season though he hit two home runs during the one thousand nine hundred seven american league division series and the yankees loss of the cleveland indians though three games to two dare jeaner actually earned seven hundred fifty thousand dollars for the one thousand nine hundred eight season that you're jere was selected for his first all star game and in the regular season he three twenty four with a league leading one hundred one hundred twenty seven runs nine thousand. Nine home runs eighty four. Rbi for a team that won one hundred and fourteen games during the regular season is widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time in the playoffs though jeeter struggled hitting only a buck seventy six in the al the s. and aol cs but when it mattered. Most in the world series. He at three fifty three four. The series as the yankees defeated. The san diego padres in four games. At the season's end jeter finished third in voting for the most valuable player award that season. Now in one thousand nine hundred nine eligible for arbitration jeeter was awarded a five million dollar salary. Jeeter led the american league in hits that season with two hundred nineteen finishing second in the league in batting average with three forty nine average and runs scored with a one hundred thirty four runs scored appearing in his second all-star game that year as well now jitter was actually the three. Oh hitter for much of the season actually. And because of that he drove in one hundred and two runs in one thousand nine hundred nine becoming only the second yankee shortstop to so following lynn larry's one hundred seven or is back in nineteen thirty one in the postseason. Jeeter hit four fifty five in the ale. The s. three fifty in the al cs and three fifty three fifty three in the world series as the yankees defeated the braves to win another championship in third during the nineteen ninety nine through two thousand off season derek jeter and the yankees negotiated a contract with jeter tentatively agreeing with a seven year one hundred eighteen point five million dollar contract however because steinbrenner did not want to set the record for largest contracts steinbrenner waited until juan gonzalez of the detroit tigers negotiated on a reported one hundred and forty three million dollar contract extension. When that agreement fell through soda jeeter's tentative deal to avoid arbitration jeter and the yankees agreed to a one year deal. Were ten million dollars. Jeeter batted a team. Best three ninety nine in the two thousand regular season added fifteen. Home runs seventy three. Rbi one hundred nineteen runs scored twenty two stolen bases and the two thousand all star game. He recorded three. It's including two single a two run single. They gave his team the lead and the victory and that was really important. Because i don't think that but selig had just yet Implemented the homefield advantage for the winning league. But i do think that it was starting to get that way. I have to really look up what that when that happened. I can't remember off the top of my head even though i definitely should. And it's gonna drive me insane but he. That performance actually earned him the all-star star game mvp and. It's the first time a yankee had ever won that award during the postseason though he only hits you eleven in the division series but rebounded to hit three eighteen in the championship series against the seattle mariners and four zero nine in the world series against new york. Mets gier added to home. Runs a triple a. And two doubles in the world series including elite off home run on the first pitch of game four and a triple later in the third inning. His own running game five tied the game and extended the world series hitting streak to fourteen games. The defeated the mets and five games for their third consecutive title and fourth ingenious i. Five full seasons gear won the world series. Mvp award becoming the only player to win the all star game mvp and the world series mvp in the same season with one year remaining until he would become eligible for four free agency. Dairy jeeter signed a ten year. One hundred eighty nine million dollar contract before the two thousand one season to remain with the yankees. Alex rodriguez had signed a ten year. Two hundred fifty two million dollar contract with the texas rangers earlier in the offseason setting the market for jeeter's negotiations junior became the.

"Percent worried that brian cashman will look at that thirteen game stretch and the overall good month of august and say that's true level. We just we just had some things. Go wrong for us. we're close. We're really the aug baseball team. We're running it back next year. I'm like twenty percent worried that that's actually the thought process. And that was the worst case scenario for this is exactly what we were talking about after the trade deadline or after the all star break was okay at this point right now when we're looking at what happened. Can you possibly look at yourself in the mirror and identify aaron. Boone is competent manager. And come back here and one of my fears was that they were going to play in getting a hot streak. Get a little hot. He he made some good calls. There were some things in there. We always said we should. They're playing for them two weeks. He did something he. I don't know what but a manager showed up a week or two but you know what this was. This was a worry. This was absolutely a fear because if there was enough enough. I don't even know what that line is where that. Where do you draw the line in the sand for what is enough but if they're if that does happen if there is enough and then they fail at the end and they destroyed off like we all expected them to be because the team is flawed. The fear is was it enough to run it back with the same shit because nightmare. That's that's the worst. You do that if you look aaron boone. I don't care. Brian cashman whether he's here or not. If you look at that that this coaching staff and you say this is the right coaching staff for this. These these group of players because a lot of players are gonna come back. You need to get your head examined. You need to get your head examined. And i don't even know what to say after that because it's just so clear that that is not the case. It is so very clear you could bring in literally anybody literally anybody and it would be better because it would be different. I i don't know. I don't know how to react if that is the case. If we run a back. I really randall in that dugout. So badly still even even even jeeter acknowledges the you know the willie randolph shift feels like the right guy. Can we talk about geeder two minutes. 'cause like i just went better about your show is i was on a jeeter kick this week and just like reliving some old. It's just so nice did you. There was a little Like two or three minute video that. Mlb posted of jeeter walking taking a tour of the hall of fame with like one of the tour guides or whatever and just him and hannah and the tour guide and there was a moment in the video. Where on a big tv screen. They were playing the jeffrey mayor. Play and tony tarasco. And jeeter just smirks and goes shoulda jumped should a jumped and walks away. Which is i got such a big kick out of it. Because he's probably obviously seeing that a million times and said that a million times but not that he didn't try and say oh you know probably would have gone off the wall for a double anyway or maybe it would have gone for a home. Run nope just shoulda jumped. And you didn't. I would've done the right thing. You didn't do the right thing. That's what my career was. I did the right thing. You didn't do the right thing. And that's that's the difference between derek jeter and those nine hundred nineties early two thousands teams in this car in baseball team. Those guys did the right thing. These guys do the wrong thing. They i'm going to read you a tax from my buddy jim who we talk he. He listens to the show and He he takes me after every time. Listens almost waiting for. I have accountability. There's accountability on my eggs. Text messages about the dumb shit that i say from From my gym. So he said. I thought i was going to mention this but i didn't. Apparently the judge will never judge will never be derek jeter after. He took himself out of the otani game this year. It's the little things and all the little things. And i'm sorry and the little things are the only thing and he's right derek. Jeter did the little things in the story that you just described was exactly that jumped even if you jump at dot catch it you make contact with that glove and it's different. It's different story. You use a different story. It's a different a different ending. He also mentioned that Jere was not his favorite player of the era Jim is five years older than me. He said he's a whore. Hey guy he knew that he and paul were the clubhouse enforcers. But you couldn't raise a better son. His parents did a fantastic job. It's pretty pretty pretty well. I still think like derek jeter was kind of everybody's favorite player whether they admitted it or not. But well yeah passat was like maybe an emotional leader and enforcer certainly o.'neil and cone those guys too but jere was the face he was the head he was he was. He was mr even keeled. Keep us on track always and that the team is lack met now maybe judge. We thought had that potential. But you're right whether he pulled himself out of the otani game well he didn't get pulled out of the otani game. But but aaron boone said this is your day off. And he didn't fight to get back in the lineup. Derek jeter never would have sat against pedro martinez ever know also to be fair..

"If you're right. I camera in my ear with that often does a good cameras. These live at our show with still god's uv. Dan fancies himself the captain of the team of our team. Captain now i know but do you think he thinks he's the captain i think he is. Dan does come off as As a captain you know above. Captain maybe i mean i know we all up to them. We all acknowledge that he's our boss. Yeah but he doesn't give like ross speeches. he's no nobody does these but he goes good for spiritual platitude or two. That's rah rah right. And guess what else would he be. He's not the first mate right. We have a skipper already represented literally have the first name That bans versus jerry. Fans the first eight job really even bad ones. Yeah look what pilots. We're still building out whether or not we want that to be a category. You put it on the poll did you. Derek jeter was being enshrined. The baseball hall of fame yesterday. I mean you live in you live down. What does that have to do with it. I mean it's the local news. You know everywhere nonstop. No come on just because you didn't know billy didn't know i don't think billy no. I think it was supposed to happen a year ago. It didn't happen. It'd happened yesterday and came out of nowhere well last year. There were things that went on kind of well. There's still things going on. You see how people are kind of making the argument because jeeter's getting all the attention but layer walkers also getting in and people are saying you know if you really crunch the numbers. The advanced metrics larry walker better hitter than derek. Jeter bro does because one of those guys that he just did it for thirty eight years he was never really the best player he just had good seasons for twenty five straight years. Why are you saying be careful. He was getting food a couple of weeks. That's true. I love what he's done with the honestly you can make the argument better owner than he was a player twenty..

"Update read by me derek. Jeeter and three others were inducted into the hall of fame yesterday. And guys i watched the speech and i gotta tell you something man that was emotional for me and it's not because of anything jeeter said jeeter gave his standard. Ceo speech right. He didn't step in anything he was. He hit all the right. Not set all the right things but i don't think he said anything that would move someone normally emotionally except that there's something about baseball at least for me. My dad show three years old. I'm like hearing about baseball. Grew up in the shadow of yankee stadium. And all that. During the fifty he's watched dimaggio mantle play and also growing up watching reggie jackson. Ron gigiri greg. Nettles these guys you know when you see maybe because it's played out doors maybe 'cause it's demarcation of time maybe because the careers are so long but i was grown. I was grown when geeta broke into the bigs and he helped restore the yankees brand to the dominant position in baseball right. They were good sometimes not good. Other times they wanna world some world series in the seventy but they were like a lot of other teams over the last several decades before jeter got there. Then he turned back into the yankees along with others bernie williams and other mariano rivera but they were a dominant. A win won the world series like every year right. There's something about watching a guy come into the league. You're grown when that happens and now you're at the age i'm at the age of forty eight years old. I'm watching his hall of fame speech and he played twenty years so as he's talking i'm thinking about the way it's connected emotionally by the way my life has changed the people in my life that were. They're gone now. You know past or moved on like it's connected to so much for me that went i was just. It was a hard hitting emotional moment. Even though the speech itself if you just read it wouldn't be an emotional speech. You know what i mean but for me it hit hard. Did you guys watch it at all. I watched it for me. The the initial comment about the one vote. He didn't get you. See for me when i first got drafted. I i've known of derek for a while and being born and raised in new jersey new york. I've spent some time with dares me onto a lot of game just in life. He is still one of the most competitive dues. I've ever met. I think that's why him. And michael jordan are so close. It's funny when you look at him though. And you see like this laid back demeanor. And he's first class but even that that little dig. Those are things that drive guys. Like derek jeter and also led me to believe him like. Who's that one do like. Why don't they make their ballots public. I want to know who that one guy abuna moxie to vote not him being a hall of fame. I wanna know who that one guy is that it. Also that comment on top of everything you just said max that one comment that i heard that one little jab that epitomize derek. Jeter is to me too. Because there there is some pettiness to him that really pushes him over the limit to being one of the best. We've ever seen key. There's always somebody that yes doesn't like your game won't vote for you. Whatever the case was good to see him. Get in longtime derek jeeter fan. That's always amazing. To see a jeeter. I know the numbers. Don't say it and you can't prove it. He always gave me the feeling every field. He stepped on he was the best player and and baseball stats guys. And i'm one would laugh at that normally. I'm just saying he was the guy you wanted on your team. The way he was talking about. I don't care what the numbers i want tom. Brady you wanna derek jeter. Eli manning speaking of clutch players joins us next. That's after key. Has this from straight talk. Wireless five jeez here. But the big carriers want you to sign a pricey long term contract to get.

"New york new york state division of tourism as part of the regional economic development council initiative to stay up to date with the release of each episode of hall of fame connections. Follow the baseball hall of fame social media channels at baseball facebook twitter instagram and youtube. He received the second highest percent of all time. Mario moreno and then over there you go. I think griffey juniors the third. Both i think like two people didn't vote for griffin like the. I'm not this is not going to be a conversation about the hall of fame voting. We've done that. i hate it. Let's not do that again but yeah it was a it was a i enjoyed the afternoon overall. Datta was thought it was fun. And i thought that yet jeeter speech was great and made me a little sad. Also we'll set because well let's soldier. Does it pose emotions. Oppose it your your strings. Because you're remembering how how joyous occasions where in the past and they are exactly that they're gone there in the past. They're only live them. You can't relive them. You can think about them. So there's there's a happiness element of that of nostalgia but there's also that emotional sadness that that's mixed into this discussion chemical craziness that that makes you feel something different but it's it. It's all good in the end. It's like because. I know i was watching him. Speak and as. I will never care about baseball player as much as cared about derek. Jeter again in my entire life. That's true so that that ends. Because i'm no longer a child like i know why i know why the answer part of it. Not not not not to say that some people don't care deeply about the teams even if the yankees somehow turns shit around once again this year and win a world series. Aaron judge leads them to the next five world series. I'm not going to care about. Aaron judge the way i cared about derek jeter. 'cause i not thirteen years old so i will say this. I will say this that that that aaron judge has probably given me as close of a feeling of like. I don't even know how to describe it but jeeter was like the guy you know even going through it. I don't think i ever labeled him as like my guy when he was playing. I never if someone asked me who. My favorite new york. Yankee was i would say i would probably say mattingly i would say cheaters up there but for whatever reason it felt like the easy answer so it was never like the answer even though in the at the end of the day like if you had to choose one person from that the one person and even if you you would you grew up like a polo guira tino. Guira bernie guy. I bet a lot of those people who would say jeeter. Because i think it was kind of assumed almost right it was like you assume jeeter was that guy to say. Who's your guy right exactly. That's a great way to put it. Was everyone's favorite player. Who was the player. Other than jeeter that you liked mine foligno yours was don mattingly but yes it was before it was a different like era. Yours was burning or someone's was petted or someone's was freaking tino martinez. Whoever was everyone had guy other than jeeter but it was always jeeter and another guy and but yeah exactly so i think judge got me back to that point where you know. I can really rally behind one player. He makes it easy at least that he did for me. A lot of people get get on him about the injury stuff. Which i think is just whatever that's part of it like dirt. She's freaking lincoln with jefferson in his speech like he played every day. Like i understand that. I understand that. There's also a piece of this. Where if judge were put in a position and had the winning years that jeter had. I don't know even even if even though we're older we're still going to. That piece of your childhood comes back when winning habits winning is different euphoria winnings the cure all in. I think it makes you feel differently about people to they were primed for it. We don't need to rehash this but they were primed for it at the end of two thousand seventeen and it hasn't happened yet sons a bitches that's gonna that's gonna do it. I hope they watch today's speech and understand. What did you see this. Did you see the pictures from yankee stadium. They headed up on the big board and there was a bunch of guys out in centerfield watching but not everybody but not everybody who was missing today by the way. That's that's what we you know. We didn't even talk about that from last night. I know this is not about that. We'll talk about that. And friday now ruined the derek jeter episode with injury. Talk i mean saris the yeah. We'll do a friday fives. I the picture that circulated from like the reporters and stuff were from the from the booth. So you couldn't tell who's who's out there watching but there were guys out there watching. I'd say maybe twenty guys out there watching so hope you guys have enjoyed derek. Jeter day we did. A couple throwback episodes the a brief history episode on how derek jeter fell to the yankees in the draft. He did mention the scout which which was one thing that we said would happen. He mentioned grouch. Gouge grouch the scout. And then also the top five career moments of derek. Jeter with scott. And i recorded about a year and a half ago go check those episodes out for nostalgia purposes and also check out the episode. I did talking to johnny judah. Who's a blue jays. Fanny also has his own podcast interviews carton and former players so busy day on the bronx pinstripes feed any parting words on the derek jeter ceremony. I just i. I enjoyed hearing. Talk about everything i thought he did. A good job Nothing never need the national anthem. Yeah you know. it's it's cool. How those guys can titled together. I hope they get some opportunities to to to hang out together. He mentioned afterwards. He hadn't really hung out with them. I'm sure because of the whirlwind of the day and who who knows what kind of like kovic protocols they have in place. I don't know but i hope they get an opportunity to have a you know a roundtable steak dinner. Hopefully somebody records it so that we can watch later right. We will talk to you guys again on friday. We'll do a friday five talking about every bad.

"Price is an asshole. That's why nobody likes him. The game stop. There was a standing ovation. Both dugouts came out to cheer him the game. Stop for a number of minutes. When i was watching the clip. I i laugh because they kept showing the the booth or not the booth the the the box that all his family was in and minka kelly in there. Yeah yeah well that that was the that was the year. I think they did the. Hbo special to with with minka. We all thought it was the one like and would never i just. I figured jeter would never agree to this unless mak- was the one that was like there's no way jeeter's what she felt bad because i think she was the one. I think jeeter's very calculated in these ways. I mean you hear these gerald williams tales of these parties and everything else that was going down those days very jealous in a box very calculated and in that special. That was the first time we got behind the curtain on jeeter and i remember that maybe this was set up for the interviews like he wanted to take any personality out of his apartment but i remember his apartment sterile. Yeah there was like no furniture. It was like a pool table and a couple of chairs. And that's your was weird. I agree just like freaky. I want to. I would love to get. Gerald gerald williams. I hope one day. I hope jeers like what f it right. The book right the book. You know what. I've done everything now. You know why he can't at this point because he did so much that people would get upset. Do you remember when. Espn ran that graphic of derek jeter of the actual baseball positions with all of the girls that he dated mariah carey. I remember the graphic jessica alba. This was two thousand nine or two thousand and ten that they rent maybe even a few years after that. Can you imagine if espn ran that graphic today the outrage from so many angles so bad so many angles. That was a graphic run on espn television. That's hilarious that's a. That's definitely not something. That would fly a not even not even close number two mr november for the first time in the history of major league baseball buying the world series during the month of november. And for very good reason.

"Sahara on that no. I don't think so. I don't think so. He wasn't. how old is hana compared to jeeter. Well same age but -posedly five years younger and also very steroid. There was so many great shortstops a little bit before that time. Though barry larkin and omar vizquel. I mean there was was that was that was. Yeah but that was before that the nineties early two thousands was the age of the shortstop. Jeeter jeter was one of the first jeeter and a-rod we're one of the first big body guys there were other ripken was ripken was definitely The the guy leading the charge because live ripken was definitely a bigger than most and i think he kind of paved the way for some of these other guys anyway yet. They're the nomar jeeter thing. It's hilarious it's it's a good one. I'm glad the red sox out a little chuckle on that because it's not it's not close when you see the careers. Jeeter destroys always fun to remember number three dj three k. Church family kalamazoo one thing. Three two come three got together and written this script got told me to pick up three thousand hits the glorious history the charges you what david price stage everything he can handle two through some change. I think he finally drew a slider. What we've seen derek home runs. The other way we've seen a pulse of homerun juice. Some off speed pitches. Remember three thousand. Derek jeter this is another non. Playoff just isolated. This is a milestone moment for derek. Jeter his three thousand hit history with an exclamation point. I'm okay with that michael. Kay calls better than where fantasy becomes reality. Jeeter homerun off david price. I three thousand hit. He goes five for five in. That game ends up driving in the winning run in the eighth inning. This maybe you think it's too high. Maybe you think it should be higher lower. Whatever we all knew he was gonna get three thousand like you said barring a career ending injury he was gonna reach three thousand. Yeah but to do it with a home. Run as the first yankee going for five. After to that point in the season on july ninth derek. Jeter stat line was to fifty seven three twenty one. Three twenty nine yeah. He was struggling bad. That is dog shit. He was horrendous up until that moment and after the game he he said. I've been lying for a long time telling you guys. There was no pressure. The one time dirge feels pressure in his entire career is nothing to do with game importance and only do with like a personal milestone thankfully in the world series. He's he's cool. I'm good in the world series but in this in this personal moment when he was probably worried about detracting from the team. I got to get this out of the way so we can just move on with our season. He gets it off price and five for five. That was a to me that stood out as a moment and then he from there on out after that moment for the rest of the season hit three thirty eight three ninety two four two four fifty one so he was derek jeter again after he got that out of the way so again this one tells that tells the tale of why these moments are so different because of this. One is yeah. It's a it's a. It's a game in the middle of the year. But it's an it's an accolade that is huge and he does it in grand fashion. That's that's the thing with him. He's got that he's got the moment he's got the the i for for the big moment. He likes the dramatics. He likes all the the good stuff. It's not like you look at that guys like oh that guy is screaming for attention. Not like that kind of thing. She just likes the it seems like he's he's he's a magnet for big moments. It's just it's crazy how he does it in in fashion. And you can't even call it. We've had this debate on clutch for for a couple of weeks now like this isn't even clutch because it took forever to get there. But it's dramatic in the way in the way that it went down because everybody's trying to be at the stadium when this happens everybody's trying to get that one ticket to be at the stadium when this happens and it doesn't happen doesn't happen and people got lucky on that day. So the fact that he went five for five as as took boot with a home. Run to to to get that three thousand very baby. I mean there's that's just it's just you know a very big moment that epitomizes the who he is and how he does things he was only the second player in history to get his three thousand hit with a home run. The first is wade boggs and then obviously it a few years later. That always bothered me. Era did it as well. It just like really. You couldn't have just got a single up the middle a-rod you had to get a home run to. Yeah but wasn't it raining and there was nobody there which was that when he when it was raining in his final day is final game ever. It was a rain delay. Yeah that's right. And the next day was aaron. Judge day but no that was off. Justin verlander and i also believe justin verlander group fastball. Well again that's rice didn't groove derek. Jeter anything in his at bat. It was an eight pitch at bet and he hit a slider down in zone to left field..

"Thanks for listening. Hunting for his first major league hit and base it into laughter. Now but that ball. Back in the yankee dugout derek. Jeter after going old for six finally as his first major league hit be. I lobby for that young into gary. Judy you gotta run on that one. That's holy cow. And it's minor league player of the year for two years before this season is rapidly becoming the yankees player of the year as a rookie. Another big hit for derek. "And flipped the scrip fast. Go back to the that. Good scorcher team. I don't know how you do that with the drop of a hat next day. Day game a after you just got taking two of three at home against the baltimore orioles. Taiwan's just got a pitch very well. Bought a old cliche goes it starts with the the guy in the mount starts with the starting pitcher because guess what this start that gives them some breathing room to tha but if tyron again can't get through the fifth inning which he has been unable to do as less to starts out how the how the heck are they're going to get five innings out of this bullpen. This team they four wins in a row this team. I'm talking about the baltimore the baltimore. I'm talking about the toronto blue jays. They're scary team right now. I've said they were scared since spring training but right now this this team scares the shit out of me Looking at this more. They're scaring me even more because they have some They got a chip on their shoulder. A little bit of revenge from the the last series against the yankees yankees just got their ass kicked by the blue jays. Basically taking a two or three. They're in a vulnerable position. This is a young team hungry team at at new york in the bronx that want to make a mark these types of kids that wanna that want to embarrass you when possible so not feeling good about that. I'm not feeling good about that. There's a lot of a lot of a motivation for them. They're playing well. They see the yankees in their sights. What are we up. Four games four and a half on on toronto a half hour and a half with four to play like that that they have another series for to play in this series. That's that's a. That's a very clean thing to do when you're when you're when you're looking at the blue jays for some Bolton board material. Yeah all right little little half episode on memorial day as labor day weekend labor day. Monday you guys are enjoying the holiday and the weekend and scott nice so there's a busy week for the yankees just like you said the four games but also we have the jeeter hall of fame speech coming up this week so you and i are going to do an episode after we hear that and react. I i am. I kind of have high expectations for it full. Well knowing i'm going to be let down because eaters. Just going to be very jittery. I think in. I don't think we're gonna get it. He's opened up more. He's definitely opened up more and started talking about certain things. So maybe this is know. I think he started doing that with the player's tribune. When when that whole thing started that was what the year after he retired. And then you know he's gotten he has kids now so there's a lot more of emotions that are like swirling in this man's brain. We'll see how the composure has changed. And how he can do it because this is gonna hit. The nostalgia button really hard for everybody. There's going to be a lot of people there watching him. You know supporting him and He's not going to be able to do this by just like staring out at a screen. There's been a whole bunch of things right. The the voicemails. What he's going to do. I think is go back to the stories and then turn it on people. And that's how he gets through those moments rather than like all being him he'll turn and he'll he'll talk about the impact and he'll talk about the things that certain people did for him and then turned it into like a little bit of story joke. And then he'll deflect in that way he's gonna he's gonna hill definitely have some self deprecating In in the speech over under time on the speech he put. What's an average speech. I don't know what an average i don't know what was griffin minutes. I'd say five minutes. I'd say over the five minutes. I take over five minutes. If if if i were to guess it would be around ten but i don't even know if i'm closing long. I think that might be long. I feel like i long career long career. There's a lot of people can say nice things about him. He's got a lot of people have thanked. There's a lot of things that went on the kid from kalamazoo all the way through all this championships with the yankees. And now he's started a whole other baseball life with with the marlins like he's got a lot how much if any of the speech will have the marlins in it. I think if anything it will it will tie help tie it to just how baseball is continuing and how he learned everything from the organization and is applying that. I don't even think i'll say the name. I don't think. I don't think he'll say that. Name florida marlins new organization or no. I think he'll just say influence how. I have continued my baseball career. Or something. like that. like he'll just allude to it but not say it. Does he mention. He'll go back into the yankee ways like in immediately he obviously will think george steinbrenner. Joe torry probably joe girardi as well since he did win. Stick michael i bet. Stick michael shout here. Does buck showalter get a a mention now. I mentioned obviously his teammates. Kasahda pettitte mariano. Those are the core for bernie hopefully gets a gets a mention bernie's part of the core. Yes she's part of the queen's not the core four that was a marketing thing that that was a very very williams. Yeah why am. I buy completely missing. This guy's name steiner sports. That was that was a steiner sports thing who who who mark them the core for the core five. I don't care what anybody says. Does a rod get a mention. No very strategically not. So because it's like obviously you the glory days without a-rod and then the one i think he's gonna talk a lot about his parents. I think he's gonna talk a lot about apparently he may he may bring it back to the two thousand and one world series and in that moment like just because i getting drafted and stuff actually. If you guys didn't listen. I did a history episode on how jeeter fell to the yankees at number five not really following but like he felt number six because it was called the jeeter five so i believe five players were taken ahead of derek jeter and just like how that draft process went to go. Check that out. We should probably re release some of the jeeter any. Yeah the jeter jeeter centrica histories. We'll re post the jeeter one on wednesday morning the day of the speech. That was the only jeeter centric one. I think that i did. But yeah i mean he'll he'll definitely thank all of those people. I don't think it gets mentioned either. But it's interesting that does he. He'll i think he'll. He'll talk about his five championships. Maybe in general does he like talk about specifics. From those teams or anything. I'm not sure. I think the championships one or an opportunity to talk about the his teammates. And all those things coming up. But i also think the postseason and the moment and that's where i think potentially there will be some discussion..

Pandemic playoffs: Brewers, Astros in despite losing records

"When you woke up on Sunday morning none of the eight matchups were said I. think that's kind of cool that would be like the the final day of the regular season Lebron Yeah I don't even know who we're playing. That's what it was for every single team yesterday in Major League Baseball your dodgers are going to play the brewers who got in yesterday with the first losing record granted at sixty. Games with the first losing record for a team in the history of the Major League Baseball Playoffs there were twenty nine and thirty one opening round best of three all in the same ballpark what are your thoughts and we couldn't lose I mean you know it. Likely not, but we could because his only three games all they got to do is win two of them, right? So baseball is so weird dodgers obviously you mentioned we got him at home dodger stadium. I don't think that you know I'm sure we're going to roll out Walker Bueller in Kershaw and we're going to do what we need to do to get to the next round But you could lose you know teams could lose you know the beginning of the year, the dodgers and the Yankees were pretty much the favorites to to get to the thing. In the end, but then the pandemic happened then we had to do all of the rescheduling and figure out how many games that went on for so long how many games should they play the only WanNa play this amount, the players, WanNa, play that amount it became a money issue, and now we finally have gotten to the point where October will be playoff baseball. Speaking out, let's go through a couple of interesting storylines after this round by the way, then everything is going to be played at trial sites and eventually the world series will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers and they'll wrap that no. Later than October twenty eighth, they want to avoid the second third. So homefield everybody early, and then we're going to neutral sites, Los Angeles San Diego. Texas and Houston quick thoughts the Yankees of the five seat in the AL, the five seat, the rays of the one-seat. What does the same thing with the dodgers? Right? The Yankees could they take care of business they moved their events they don't they go home whether they a one C or DHCP. It's everybody's even really to be honest with you. Everybody's even Garrett Cole. Start, for the Yankees Chain Bieber for the Indians in for all the money they paid Garrett Cole Shane Beavers had a better year he has in when you look at it, there are no fans in the stands. So there's no home field advantage for anybody you know what's great about not having fans the Houston Astros. Left right. Everywhere they go. They are the sick see the astros have made it in baseball's big off season, they should just get blinked. Every time people bring up the Astros are frown just cheated just blatant just cheat to win. They're taking on the Minnesota twins keys, dodgers will take on the brewers the padres in the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years will take on the Saint Louis Cardinals and the much maligned and I know it's a sixty game season. How about the Miami Marlins under? Derek. Jeter, for everything that they have gone through there and they'll get the Chicago cubs. Yeah. They they. They deserve to being I'm happy for I'm happy for Jeeter because when he? Blew everything up and traded. Call Stan and everybody was like Oh they just care about the money. They're completely trash in the organization, and now they're in the playoffs and they take on. Chicago like you said, one

Miami Marlins CEO Derek Jeter: COVID-19 Outbreak Happened Because Players ‘Let Their Guard Down’

"The cardinals of the latest team to suffer a corona virus outbreak resulting in their four game series in Detroit being postponed the I. of course, was the Marlins. Here's Derek jeeter their man in charge describing how his players behaved before all this happened. Oil. Down to on this particular trip was. Guys were around each other got relaxed in. Let Their guard down. There were getting together in groups. They weren't wear masks as as they should have been warned social distancing of the entire traveling party is responsible for not following. The Protocols has instructed that that includes staffs, players. Everyone is seen seen the impact. They've seen their teammates, you'd sick. As I bring the Jeff Passan and Jessica does in Jeeter did go on to say, I think this is important that he had seen as we all have people suggesting that when they were in Atlanta, maybe the guys went out to bars and clubs and all of that strongly refuted that notion he was saying, yes, they got lax in some of their protocols, but it wasn't like they were out there doing things that were like super erase. I just thought that was important to get in. That said Jeff, what does the League's response to the Marlins, and now the cardinals outbreaks tell us about what we should expect for the remainder of this season. Greenie tells us that Major. League Baseball is saying damn the torpedoes full speed ahead, we are going to play through outbreaks and we saw that with the marlins and we're seeing that now with the cardinals, seven players on the cardinals have covid nineteen six staff members as well. Those thirteen people have been sent back to Saint Louis Right now is the cardinals trying to figure out what exactly they are going to do. They played only five games, this season Greeny, and yet the fact that they're missing potentially at least another four games possibly another week of games on top of that. MLB says, okay. This is this is reality if we want to put a baseball season on traveling around the country in two thousand twenty and it is a reality that they are embracing in full because at this point, if there's going to be baseball Greenie they really don't have another choice Jessica. What do you think? I think that honestly, this is something that's going. We're going to see it again in another team I hate saying that, but you get one player and that's what jumps out to me. So much is now seen it with two teams in a week or one player has it, and then the next thing you know you blink and overnight five, six, seven players get it, and I think even talking with, Mike, Chill, the cardinals manager everyone realizing how quickly this can spread and that's something i. feel. Feel like we're gonNA see continued throughout the MLB

Is there a lot of pressure from these studios? Maybe they've gained investment off the back of their previous success in the being pushed like you need more than a one hit wonder. Red Sox legend David Ortiz shot in Dominican Republic

"And. Jeez. Right. Yeah. Big Papi is what we're talking about. David Ortiz is the former star of the Boston Red Sox. He still involved with the organization and has been on this program several times, actually, I think just about a year ago. Was last time he was here and over the weekend. Just let actually Sunday evening. He was shot in the back by a motorcyclist in the Dominican Republic. He was there on Sunday. He was shot in the back, some guy on a motorcycle approach David Ortiz, outside of the dial discotheque in Santo Domingo. And the bullet went through his stomach. He's in stable condition. He is out of danger, according to his father and spokespeople at that hospital after undergoing surgery, Leo Ortiz, who is at big Papi's daddy spoke to reporters outside the hospital after surgery and said that his son was safe. He's resting now and he is stable. That's what he said, in Spanish, a second person who was with or teas was also shot this as a television host there, according to his wife, they were both on their backs. It was. Very fast. He doesn't remember much because he was also in shock from the bullet wound. Apparently this was targeted multiple people have been detained in connection with the shooting. And it's unclear whether those detained include the motorcyclists who according to reports at least on the scene people that were in the crowd. They're actually captured this guy and beat the heck out of them until police came one of the suspects is being treated at the local hospital. So again, they're trying to sort out this morning, how many people were connected to this, if this was because this happened at a nightclub, there could be a lot of people who got caught up. But the good news is he is out of surgery. And, and hopefully we'll be on the road to recovery kind of a strange story that I it was being reported as a burglary. But now they're saying this guy just drove up on his motorcycle and started shooting. Does he lived there part of the time? I must families there. So I think he visits a lot. But I think he lives here. I think this is where his permanent residence. Well he had a home in framingham. I don't know. He sold it had big house here and had. Restaurant here for a long time restaurant didn't do too well, but he's exceedingly popular was when he was a player, and as you said he'd been here come, and he was more recently even than a year or so ago. He was just really. Very positive influence, spend a lot of time kids, very positive with the team the team. The log the guys on the team loved him the management fun. So fun to watch. She was really he is not a was. I don't want to memorialize him but he is a such a fun player to watch. Yeah. So being shot in the back. Oh, what kind of there was no out their stomach? What was the, the if I missed which you said the essence of why this person went after him? They don't they don't know at first when I before I went to sleep last night. This had just started to break and people were saying it was a burglary at a nightclub. But now this morning they're saying that he specifically was ambushed about eight fifty a gunman approached him from behind, and shot him at close range, and that according to some reports that gunmen and the police have not confirmed. This was captured and beaten by the crowd, but they arrested a bunch of people as part of this. So it'll be interesting to see why what the motivation was if he was really trying to take his money. I don't know according to his father, he was very lucky because he didn't have any damage to his major organs. But what the heck did Dominican? Well, there you go. That's there is no good PR going on for the Dominican Republic. Right. Being shot and beaten and all sorts of things killed. Yeah. No. Yeah. I think they're also there's also the, the rumor that was part of a larger shakedown a big Papi was this, you know, there, and hopefully, maybe when he starts speaking again, with family and police, maybe they're maybe he even has some insight that we don't know yet, but he is, like, Jen said he so lucky that the bullet went kind of clean through in, because that's. Would you consider him to be a legend as the land apply to him? Yeah. What other sports figures around now, who were with a rod is a legend. Okay. Derek jeeter probably also legendary player, I would say for the dodgers, he's still playing but Clayton Kershaw will be a legend people always pay attention to his pitching, but modern day.

"Here's what we're talking about. Todd Frazier, who will be at third for the Mets tonight in a game that starts in about an hour, was it? I was at this game on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. Mayday diving catch going into the stands along the third base line in England. He tumbled into the stands and he came out with holding the ball a pie and say it. I caught it in the called the batter out. It turns out Frazier went into the stands drop. The actual play didn't catch it. Saw a youth baseball on the ground. Picked it up, showed it to the empire, the empire called the out. Then he threw the youth baseball back in the staff like he was a good guy to give away as souvenirs. Amazing. I mean, just played it off

"Okay. So the Marlins we know they don't have, a, lot. Of, fans they got to the teen Derek jeeter yada yada yada well next year the crowd should be a little. Louder because they're allowing noisemakers and musical instruments into one specific section To try. And show pride in their native countries and all that stuff of the fans native. Countries. And get loud according to team the team's website it makes in. Miami very Latin community and if you've, ever, watched, baseball. In, the Dominican Republic or really any country besides here it's a party it's fun and people are singing and dancing Classic and Marlins park yeah. It was a fantastic atmosphere for those games yeah even in Japan out in, the the outfield they usually have supporters sections not unlike say what the seven line does with the Mets but these. People are standing and singing songs for every single batter that comes up throughout the inning and. Then there dead silent when their team is pitching they don't do anything when the opposing team is heading when their teams hitting they have a different song, for each player, that they will clap along to in. Sync to during the at bat it's it's like a party in other places of the, Marlins could bring. That that'd be great but what I envision I know you envision as like three guys up there just and maybe they got like a boom. "Creating the anger between the teams and i am beads a great trash talker and i love his game he's fun to watch they're fun to watch switching gears a little bit it's still kind of nba and nfl related aaron rodgers purchased a minute minority share of ownership for the milwaukee bucks rogers is the first active nfl player to own a piece of a major sports franchise in the market in which he plays fact or fiction within the next year there will be another active player with ownership stock in a major sports franchise in another sport i'll say fiction i think it's i mean i know we've seen like retired players obviously derek jeeter with the marlins and now aaron rodgers as you mentioned but i don't i still think it's going to be commonplace when you have to be filthy rich to do it there are guys gave i mean lebron james i'm sure i could buy a part of the become a minority owner in the indians or the or the browse without a problem i mean he's he's gotta be i would think that lebron james is the richest guy in in professional sports in america so he certainly capable and he to this point hasn't i guess at least publicly we haven't heard any interest on his part although there has been talks to maybe someday he want to be ownership in the nba so now i think it's pretty unusual to do that another sport so i i'm guessing we don't see it anytime soon another nfl topic as we both know dez bryant was released by the cowboys i think it was actually the last week but this week the giants released veteran wide receiver brandon marshall setting off rumors that does bryant will be new york bound bryant has expressed his interest in staying in the nfc east and specifically playing for the new york giants factor fiction an odell beckham junior dez bryant partnership is a bad idea that's fat dez bryant is overrated he hasn't been a very good player since two thousand fourteen he has been injury prone he did play sixteen last year but he's still he played sixteen games at eight hundred thirty eight yards.

Calling it an 'awkward situation,' Derek Jeter will skip Marlins' visit

"Number one fuel stabilizer at an all treatment the miami marlins playing yankee stadium tonight opening a routine two game series against the yankees except it's not completely routine because the man currently running the marlins the man who traded slugger giancarlo stanton to the yankees is derek jeter jeeter's not the greatest yankee of them all but he certainly on the list playing his entire twenty year career with the team accumulating more than three thousand hits and being part of five world series champions he no doubt would receive a huge ovation when seen by fans tonight except he won't be there he says it would be awkward why it isn't as if he walked on the yankees to become a free agent he retired and has a new life it isn't as if the steinbrenners offered him the chance to run a team and he said no jeeter should be there it would be a cool senior on john.
