"Actually Maggie that why I agree that was big news and I'm not surprised at all in fact road on on Monday and it's in the guy was saying D. as follows the same logic because basically the other two guys and they try to trade in July didn't get offered the daylight so they had two options going into the offseason which is to try again understanding the value was in where they wanted to be origins shut down the conversation and save two players and confidence needs to improve from having the trouble of of dragging their names through trade rumors again. the guard had been a good sport through the trade rumors twice last December when it was a lot going on with him in the eighties and him in the Padres in addition to some other possibilities and then in July when the Mets are trying to talk to everyone about than a guard no we just made a couple jokes but he didn't really raise a stink I can tell you that this time it would have been different he we use sick of it and we really what I heard that so rather than go through that with a good player pages figure let's make him feel more confident more secure and wanted and bring back in with the as mentally giving anything Brad windy as you might as well tell me a lot of them right. no you know it was a lot of Brody you know Pat in the cell phone to back talk about things that he did good on the really touch on a lot of things that he did bad it you know Jed Lowrie didn't really contribute the struggle you know could know was in and out a lot of got off to a slow start you know with all things being said with him saying he wants to get over the hump what are some of the things that he has to do maybe with limited resources to build this roster making the contender to he's selling them as a wants to sell the mass yeah good question he feels that they had a playoff caliber roster this year and that's one of the reasons why you make IT manager changes because they want a guy with a feel for the game that can. get to know the extra few when they won eighty six games so really it's only a few more they would get them into a wild card spot so I would say that given their internal evaluation the most important thing is probably a higher the manager who you can trust to to implement your plans and work with you and have a feel for the game so that is a huge huge higher for him he will be defined.

"See what's worse. Is it worse to have the foot smell or when someone takes off their shoes, and there's a hole in their sock? The whole is fine. Whatever smells the holes in the soccer pet peeve for me feet. Fuck is a different type of all totally coincidentally my feet also smell. Sneaking hamburgers. Your day. Let's don't you can't come over? No men know this. Right. Out there. Summertime took back into knack. I can tell you something cornstarch. I had a guy in the summertime on one of those small planes. Bring your shake off the shoes and socks and put his feet up. You're sitting in the first row of coach and most stoked, for seven rose. Oh my God. We're back with the flameout Tito sauce on the stove. You should like punch out the top Carlin, or they give you the oxygen masks, voluntarily put that over your mouth at any rate, you know, back to the Mets for a minute and. Honestly, speaking of things that stink. Yes, I it just honestly to me continues to feel like it's reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. And at some point. You have to do something a little bit more drastic, don't you? I mean you're talking about still for Calloway for Brody. What's Calloway gonna do? Look what he has a work with. No. Whether it's firing Calloway or whether it's trying to do something to start what's going on. We already know the Calloway's not the guy. This for stuff like this. I mean listen the bullpens atrocious. I mean, yeah you can argue with, you know, ways that he's using is pulling guys too soon. But not having a feel for the game. But the guys who are in the bullpen right now are just besides Lugo. And sometimes gazelle men, they're just not good. Jerry's familiar is one of the worst signings, a all of brody's. Jay laurie. "Sports radio. Mike's on. This is an SM y report that jed Lowrie suffered a setback that will delay is activation a slight hamstring strain, which will force Lowry back to extended spring training for a couple more weeks Lowry was not performing now, maybe this is the go back and hope that he gets better or maybe he got hurt again either way. It's not good. But right now in a what I'll tell you the Mets. I mean, I guess they could use Lowry. What could use his put McNeil third base and get themselves. Alfie liquor hit that that'd be the right thing for the Mets. Nick pick. What do you think tonight? Brian wanna what's up Bryant? Yeah. To real quick. I don't know how much stock you taking but Bleacher reports pretty good at it there. They have an MBA hidden inside at just reported that if the Dick's do get the one they're gonna approach the pelicans about trading day. Brian. I don't think that you know, what I don't think they from what I understand the coaches very much Zion guy. I. Don't see that this. And they'll be they'll be a lot of reports. But let's see let let let let them get the pick. I yeah. As pick. Honestly if they will conspiracy theories or whatnot. I feel what you end up there. The NBA do whatever they have to do. It's been too long. They're going to get the number one pick. Eighty five go Roscoe in Brooklyn. What do you think? Tonight Rosco with over one. Mike him E Y number one. Might you knew your number one. I it's just it's gonna it's gonna make it more interesting. And I think with that number one pick. I'm now guy Mike I wanna win. Now. I'll change to the Bronx. Lebron is all in if the talk far there's this chitchat out the reports to they're looking ship them out. Listen, I believe I believe that is true. I think that has come. I think that has come to the point where that is possible that he could be leaving. I really believe that. And after they did what they did with Lou. I think anything is possible. So I would believe that now as far as the Knicks trading is I be surprised from what I've heard. I'd be surprised because I know that they're very much in love with their big on Zaia is from what I understand. Billion hoboken. What do you think they get in? Taking the call. So here's the conspiracy theorists out there. You can actually bet on the draft on who get the first pick. And if you go to a site like bet US dot com actually has the Knicks as the favourite to get the first pick plus two seventy five Phoenix plus five hundred. So do you know why there would be a difference in in the odds, even though the odds are the same line Knicks favorite to get back? Probably because people believe in that silly stuff that there's a that is a conspiracy. Because there's no other reason why they would be favored over Cleveland finish because they have the same chance. So statistically, they have no more advantage unless you think they're gonna they're going to do something for them, which some people listen, some people actually believe that they actually think that's possible. So I mean, but you know, what people believe a lot of conspiracies. Just once the news these days. The go-to conspiracy. Tyler in Connecticut. What do you think? Michael getting pick the fifth pick. What what is doing the Knicks? Well. Over them to be a coach. They always treated the they paid doing pretty well for career, though, Sony in Malvern where he got sunny, Mike, I think that in the Knicks is it's the Knicks is if maryelle obviously getting the number one take picking Zion bringing Kevin Durant and play of his choice. But since they had just as good a chance. Mike at one two three four five were you? Or would you think they would sign up for the number two pick right now? Dying on it. But I was not I I would I would not sign up for an I would if I was there tonight. I would take my chance on getting in the morning. I wouldn't sign up for any. I wouldn't do. Felix bridge. What do you like Phillips? First of all one give thanks to the GM for the Nixon this position. Did a good job. Lost. Go ahead. What do you think? Tonight. What do you think? Well, I I'm hoping we get the number one picks, but the worst case scenario for the niche. It's not really that bad. Let's say we get the first the fifth fake and we signed Jimmy Butler and Kimba Walker. No. What are you? What are you trying to create the team from hell? I mean, come on. No, thank you. I'm against Kemba. Walker? Justin Dobbs ferry. What's up, Justin? Mike what's going on? I think Charlotte percent more better chance. The next. The way it's been going. I think the fifth that's a. All right now. The consensus five picks are Zion. One John Moran to. Barrett. Three Garlan four in the one hundred five those are the consensus five players most. If you take the most of the consensus picks, if you put them all together, that's what you consensus. You come up with as the players rate of one two three five Zion. John Barrett gaulan cleaner. It's closer last two. You got Jarrett there to Texas Tech. You got a couple of guys you can throw in the mix, but that's the consensus right now. And obviously everybody has job Barrett. One-two-three? Anthony, red Bank was Anthony. How you doing my thanks for taking the call. I think the next get number three tonight and in the long run five years from now that will be the right pick. If they take Barrett. All right. So and that's who they would probably wind up with. I would think Greg Piscataway. What do you think tonight? Greg. I'm saying positive energy taking number one. But I agree with the last caller a lot of sleeping on. I think he's the most complete player. And I mean, if things like they're saying that those with Kevin Durant. And I think he comes in. He he's not dominant player. I like I like Barrett. I like Barron is a player. I really like John Moran is a player. I think John John Moran is built for this now in BA. But I mean, I think that Mike would you have to players like carrion and Kevin Durant. He's he's a dominant point guard. So where where's where's the shot coming on? That's fine. I'm listen. Listen. I don't really want kyri. Anyway, I'm not a kind of guy. But if you give me Durant, I play John Moran with him in to God in a second. I mean, he's a point guard this guy this guy. This guy is a is a he is a one, but he's a one in the in the he's a one the way the new ones are he is a one that can get Tennessee's and get twenty points. He's a one a scoring binge and deliverable. And be your primary. So that's I mean, he John a major talent. I know a couple of guys is to lean to lie. These. I don't think. So I think he is going to be a tremendous NBA player. George joins us when you got George. Hey, my Nixon I bring this cross on both hands. We'll get the number one Williams be Nick next season. And my if I could I want to come I guess goalie out or extreme something you brought up last week in country about treating the number one for the front, and what that would mean. Right. I would not be a fan of that Mugabe for number of different reasons. But you would you made a comment that LeBron never played with the player like west when comparing him to the rain, right? And I would argue that I think he played with ask good players as Westbrook players like twain, wait. I don't think listen I disagree with the other guys. The only guy who could put even close is. Wade and Wade was a really good player. And I think a terrific player at times. But I think the way the Wade had a play with the Braun did not allow him to be the same player that he would have been if the. Dan, wasn't there? Number one, number two Westbrook is a superior talent. Now, you might get upset with some of the stuff. He does. But he has off the shot physical skills. That's a rare NBA player they very rare one. So I think very few people get to play with a guy like Westbrook. These that good. Okay. My point was you could have LeBron come here, and you could put him with a variety of Matt's players. And you can't tell me that they could turn around right now be thrown around rafters of beat the Milwaukee Bucks. I don't think they could. I don't think that would be a problem. And I think the Knicks have couple of the pieces that you see when you have LeBron first of all the put LeBron on the team with anybody else. Who's going to be a point guard is ludicrous. Lebron is the point guard. He is going to handle the ball in all important moments. Number two, you have to have three things on your team with the brunt. You have to have a room Protech. There. You have to have at least two knocked down shooters who can catch it and shoot it. When the Broncos to the basket while goes in the box when he goes into the into the in and posts up for the double team all when he penetrates and gets doubled. You have got to have someone who can catch the kick. And and knock it down and having multiple guys for that, is optimal. Is there? A million guys you can put in that in that category. That's the other thing. The other thing you would like to have as you would like to have an athletic defender on a perimeter. He would like to have a room protect their perimeter defend the like, an with dollar type who can be that kind of perimeter defender those things and you got to have to shoot as you do not need star. Those of you can have role players play these roles. And that's why Cleveland team at times fit him. Let people think because he had role players. Was a scorer when he was retiring kyri was scorer. He made big baskets. And he went to the basket. Ben the garden the league he was a bene- guy driving to the basket on the league. He was greeted the things in the game. But he's really great at that. And he found that he has no leadership skills. He's destroyed that Celtics, and it doesn't seem had a lot of problems this year. And I blame the kids to blame Tatum. And I blame Rosiere, and I blame Brown for being babies, and I do blame them the way I bring I blame Kyrie. I blame the coach. I blame him. I blame all. In babylon. What do you think tonight vent? Have to twenty years of this. My guy, I think it'll be five. I it's gotta be five. And I I will say this my I have no faith in the organization if it's not one or two will screw it up. I don't think you can screw up Moran. And I on I think after that will screw it up. Just like we screwed up our last two high first round draft choices. I Miller Kate. It is disaster is terrible is not not not and you know, capable Cape saying, I'm sorry. I keep harping on this. But not Mike he shot thirty seven percent. He was a walking turnover. Maybe he's got a future. I think knocks in the right setting will be able to shoot in the future. You're right about Nichols. A terrible. Pick absolute terrible Peter in park ridge. What's up, Peter? Hey, how you doing my again tonight? Gimme all your optimism wrap it up. What number you got? My optimism says number one realism says number five, but I got a question for you. The GM. They get the number one pick. You can take your number one pick and put it together with to the high profile players that are out there who do you like to say in a perfect world. The next doing this offseason. Durant won. I I don't care who. Who I mean, the Knicks are getting the number one pick. Yup. And they can get to players in the off-season with three would you like to see them? Would you take on one knowing that you have the other two? I listen, I I would take Zion one. And train them. Because I think there's a there's a craze for him. I had to take one of it and take them wanna be doing a bad job in terms of value. But I would take him in trade him. If it was me, personally, I'm not as high as everybody else's. I get great value for them. But as far as the, but I would take him. If I I want to rant. I don't want. I mean, Leonard would be wonderful..

"I like the like the pro far move because look we all know what the to do they've got they've got to stay within certain financial constraints profile had been a top prospect in the in the majors now, which is the Rangers with the in major league baseball in situ was like nineteen years old. And last year he looked like he kind of started to come through on that promise. Twenty three homers knocked in over eighty RBI's and you'd love to keep jed Lowrie, but he goes over the Mets because they couldn't afford them. But I really liked that infield. Now, I'm not sure what's going to happen with Baretto, but just going to get caught up on what you've seen out of profile so far. And then what is what does that make Franklin Baretta who's the really the lone guy right left from the Donaldson trade? Well, you know, when you think about jed jed was a great day. I mean, two years ago had forty nine doubles last year at ninety nine RBI was an extra base hit machine, but he's thirty five and he's already had some problems already with a math. It's like the as are moving on just at the right time. And when I get back defense, you know, you have the two best third base. First base to go lovers in the American League semi and is now made himself into contention for bowl gloves. And now you bring pro far in you mentioned the bat how good he is defensively bear so athletic that was the one thing a couple of years ago, you know, they weren't very athletic as have so many athletes on the field right now. So far just makes them better. You look at his offense of numbers. And when he was playing for Texas bouncing all around now Bob Melvin looking out and saying, hey, you're playing your come to the ballpark every day knowing you're playing second base every day, you can get comfortable and they're expecting him to have the. The same offensive numbers. But he's a far better athlete in than jed Lowrie. So that's when you really look how good the a defense is Indian field in the outfield, and how athletic say are it is it's lights out there. One of the best. Just not in the American League. But they're one of the best in all of baseball and defense still plays today. No doubt about this is an interesting pick up, and I didn't think a ton about it. But it looks like he's going to be their leadoff, man. And there and they're leftfielder. He's a switch hitter. And he's had success getting on base with the the Astros and the twins. What about the addition Robbie Grossman? Yeah. Especially with Nick MARTINI hurt his knee a little bit ago when I was down there spring training Martinez. Great for the as really in the second half. And you know, obviously was part of the lineup in the wildcard game. And now Vernon the catcher is going to have you got his knees skills today. So he's not gonna make opening day. So we've seen a couple of injuries. But yeah, I mean grossness the guy that's already, you know, everybody comes in. It's so loose with the a comment. He's happy. He's comfortable. And then you miss, you know, the big thing with the A's right now they've got multiple players that can play all over the diamond. Because now that bullpens are getting bigger and you want eight guys in your bullpen. That means you're gonna have less is on the bench. So if you can have a guy like Chad ender who can play every single position. And you have a guy like Mark Hanna who can play all over versatility and depth down at spring training. That's all I heard was about with different with all the different teams. You want on your bench because you're gonna have far less bench players. You want versatility you want death? Because bullpens are just getting bigger and at some point they're going to expand the when the when the CBA's up they're gonna expand the Las tres. So you can have even more relievers on your roster so less bench more relievers means the guys on the bench. Gotta be playing every mentioned Franklin Baretto, the lone guy left from the dolphin phrase. They're trying to I've seen in place center this spring. He can play second boy short. He can play. Thirty to play. They're trying to turn him into a chance. Hinder is right now. Almost worn out your welcome. But Lazardo give us give us a scouting report on this kid and win mighty be up legit. Yeah. Absolutely legit. I want you to think Johan Santana a better fastball comparable change, but he throws a slur. It's not a slider. It's not a curveball that inbetween. It's hard slur this frisbee. Daddy throws and all the scouts are raven and he can live anywhere between about ninety three and ninety six can hope it up at times the ninety eight he's going to be the next big thing in the bay area. So we'll see if he makes problem with Japan, by the way. Yeah. Is that you have a shorter spring. So you have less time to prove. And even though Billy bean will talk about the whole, you know, the clock the arbitration clock that he doesn't care about that. We'll see Lazardo makes the team right out of the gate. But at some point he's going to be here. John, and I'm telling you, you're gonna wanna bring your son over to Oakland to watches because this kid's the next big thing. Very cool, man. We'll have. Hey, it's always good to talk to you have fun in Japan. I know you've been there before. So you kind of know the way that it works and be good. Tony to us. It just watch it. I know what you're up to. Chris downs. Got a new gig with the as working for the as and like you said he's going to be doing all sorts of different things. Give us a little preview of the as Lazar does the guy to watch good infield on that team. Can then be as good how much are they gonna use the opener strategy all that kind of stuff how they put their other put their staff together. They're they're starting staff together that'd be interesting to see as well. And they've got a couple of injuries. AJ puck was a guy that was supposed to be there. He's still coming back. And obviously Mnaya got her last year. He's still coming back. You have those guys to this team. That's going to be a good team. So they had to Japan. All right. I got a couple of things in the giants since we're on the baseball, vibrant. Now, we'll do that until the top of the hour..

"They're gonna stay healthy with these veterans canot is going to have a vintage season Alonzo's going to be a star. And the Mets are gonna win ninety games. They're going to be playing in October or a lose ninety games. I think that's my mentality. Even though if you ask most people right now. Look, you'll find the extreme they're gonna win ninety two. You'll find the other extremes. They're the worst. We had a caller yesterday on the midday show who said the Mets will compete with the Marlins for last place. That's an extreme most people think it'll be in the low to mid eighties. Right. That's the common belief about this team. Well, my answer is that hasn't happened to me think about that. When is the last time that's happened? It's either been bad or awesome. The really hasn't been in in between with his team one thing. I like about this team because there are things I'm concerned about going into the start of the year, assuming they don't make any more changes. And I don't count signing. Carlos Gomez to a minor league deal is a change the thing I do like about this team, and it's obvious. But it's certainly the way I feel is the death. And I think you're already starting to see that Todd Frazier, sir. He may not play opening day. Jed Lowrie cert-. He may not play opening day and wild JD Davis has something to prove and pita Lonzo as something to prove and Jeff McNeil could be a leftfielder or a third. Basement. And now you factor in Brockton. And lagaras, they've got guys and in years past they haven't had guys. So obviously you want this team to stay healthy they signed jed Lowrie to produce close to what he did a year ago. He had a great season last year with the Oakland A's, and he played just about all the time and the year before you expect that hope that that's what you can get from Jeddah Lowry, but they are built to survive injuries. And I liked that. I also like the makeup of this lineup Todd and Yankee fans calm down. When I say this. I think the Yankees have a better lineup put that out there. They have a better lineup. They have guys who could hit fifty home runs and driving one hundred and forty runs with Aaron judge in John Carlos Stanton's. So I would still take the Yankee lineup over the met lineup. What I like about the met lineup that I thought the Yankee should done is the Mets have different kinda hitters and balanced to this lineup. Again, the Yankees have a better lineup because their top end is better by a lot seriously. Aaron judge. Giancarlo stanton. Healthy. Gary Sanchez mean the top of their the the big guys in their line-up. Clearly better. My concern is always been with the Yankees fans. Admit this. They're very right handed. They strike out a lot the Mets have a lot of guys who already one side, right? We're left. They have a good mix. Now, though, they may be stacked together, which is a different issue. And they've got guys who put that on ball one of the things I like about Jeff McNeil, and he's got to prove that last year was legit. And we're going to talk to him at ten forty. I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you. I already talked to him you'll hear it at ten forty. I want to see here. What's in the dugout talk? It was it was cool. He's a nice guy. I by the way, I love the fact I gotta give Ethan credited works for the Mets. He would introduce each player to me as he works for WFAN and he's a season ticket holder. I love that. I don't know. Why is this guy pays money to watch you play baseball? Maybe that's what it was. But but I love about Jeff McNeil's. He puts bat on ball. Do the Mets have a lot of power in this lineup. No, no, not at all. That's where Alonzo comes in. That's where potentially Todd Frazier comes in if he's healthy. And he's getting consistent at bats. They don't have those monsters that the Yankees have a lot of guys you get fifteen twenty twenty five home runs. I think Michael Conforto is thirty home run guy if he's healthy and consistent. Brandon Nimmo less than that a little bit jet lower these healthy, you know, high teens low twenty s Wilson Rommel's high teach they've got guys that can put the ball over the fence. They don't have those, you know, traditional sluggers, but they've got guys who can get on base and guys who could put bat on ball, and they have a hitting coach in chili Davis, even though it ended badly in Chicago whose mentality is bad on ball situational hitting and I do like that. I like what they did. With the bullpen. I never dreamed or dreamt dreamt before this offseason dream Trump that they could acquire the best closer in baseball for me year ago. Never fought. That I think we all looked at free agency and said, okay, Andrew Miller, Craig kimbrel. It's gonna be expensive Zach Britton like we just went through the list of free agents. And there were some concerns about each guy mostly age because usually age is a concern when you get two free agency. I never thought they can get at Wendy s I've made my opinion clear about the trade. There were major concerns. I have in your three four and five. The fact they're paying Robinson. And the fact they gave up too big prospects, potentially big prospects. We'll see about as time goes by. So I'm more concerned about that deal down the road in the short term. The Mets are better. I don't know how anyone could debate that ill short term. They flipped Robinson. No forgot Robinson could Owen at Wendy s for Anthony scores. Atkin Jay, Bruce. I'd signed for that any day. So as soon as they got the best closer in baseball to start building this bullpen. I thought Brodie was already in a good spot putting this together. 'cause then what he signs k RAs familiar our responses. Okay. That's okay. Here already has at Wendy s if the millions the first reliever they signed we're all going nuts. We're all complaining about it. And you've got Lugo and you've got gazillion. And they added Justin Wilson and Louis Avalon potentially. So I think what made this bullpen and built this bullpen in the best way. We could have imagined was the instantaneous acquisition of Ed Wendy as he is young. He's gotta prove that last year and the year before that, but specifically last year because he was unbelievable is for real. He's also got a preview, Capuchin, New York. We as met fans are conditioned to have seen a lot of closures come into this town and fail. A lotta closers come into this town and not be able to handle the pressure of this city, Edwin the as we'll have to answer that. So I like what brody's done with the bullpen. I like what he's done with the lineup. My concern is the rotation and the depth that it has. We know they have to stay healthy. That's obvious. We'll think about this everybody last year. They were healthy. Jacob degrom may thirty plus starts. I consider that healthy Stephen match may thirty starts. I consider that healthy Zack Wheeler may twenty nine starts could've made more. Remember, they shut. Him down a few weeks early. That's pretty healthy. And Syndergaard missed a month. But he made twenty five starts everybody to make five starts this two thousand seventeen but even with that you need rotation depth everybody does they don't have that. Jason Vargas is the fifth starter. No, one loves that Corey Oswal. We'll see Hector Santiago. Walker lock it. I don't know. So that's probably coming into this season other than the obvious guys to stay healthy. Of course, you do every team meets to say that and needs to do that. But probably my biggest concern is the overall depth of this rotation because even with health from the big three you still lead rotation depth. So that's probably as come into twenty nineteen the thing that jumps out at me along with the idea that history tells me, this is either going to be awesome. Or it's going to stink. That's the Mets in the city failed era. So here's what we'll do today. We'll take your phone calls at eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we will talk to the radio voice of the New York metropolitan baseball club. How he rose that will be in the twelve o'clock hour, we will talk to Edward Coleman. That'll be in the eleven.

"The most about the the as roster as it's constructive is that when the one might remember that when the acquired market semi and they played shorts up. He committed a narrow roughly three times every single game and last season by dint of some work with run Washington and just by experience and getting better Marcus semi and turn himself into an actual. Reliably above average shortstop. Did you expect to ever be in a situation where you would watch market semi-in have him turn into an above average defensive shortstop? Well, I do remember when he first showed up the first two months who is with the as at shortstop Aggie with just making air after air. It seemed like five or six weeks just crazy. And then they brought in Washington. He's still said in as record for errors that season an Oakland record for years, but you could tell how hard he was working and that he was improving and that just he just kept getting better and better now Matt Wilson has a lot to do with that whole infield. And how well they performed last year the entire as infield where they were all gloves finalists, including jed Lowrie who gets knocked for his peace. And and some of that was not often having, you know, six foot five first basement who has a great club really is always going to be a plus for everyone else. I'm not saying that's why semi and improved so much. It had something to do with it. But he talked a lot this offseason. He he actually asked for. Run Washington to be the person that he put into coaching corps alliance honoree at the big thing that those done in the Barrio with with Clare some honoring coaches that mean a lot to them he selected on Washington. And you talked a lot about how much he'd meant to him. And just he said when they first started working together, he didn't even know how to catch a ball correctly. Like he had to be hot to like, you know, closes glove correctly wash wash run Washington was like what are you doing? Like, you don't even he wasn't throwing correct. It all his tried was way off. He basically had great him completely down in the middle of a season and go back to absolute basics and teach him how to do everything all the fundamentals from the ground up. And look what happened. He's a very good athlete, and he's an extremely hard worker. So he he deserves most of the credit for all the hard work. We're on Washington certainly had a lot to do with that too. Really one of the more unique things to watch happen at eight major league level, you know, usually those are the sort of things that are happening in. The amateur level or the the minor league level. So see it somebody put in that kind of work at the big league level and make it work fantastic. Speaking of defense and surprises. I think that Ramon Laureano kind of came out of nowhere for some people who haven't been following as minor league system very closely. And yesterday had traded him away the previous year and not only does he have this incredible arm that he just announced himself with that highlight reel throw right away. But he also hit very well. And probably made the Astros field pretty bad about having surrendered him. So it's a pretty small sample..

"I got I confused myself having that having that interview not been that recently last year was his first all star season. I think when we had him on I told him statistically, what should have been all star seasons for him. Yes. He's a one time all star. But he should be a two or three time all star. One time all star has had more than one all store were the campaign. Correct. Knowledge last year love love love this signing for jed versus board beloved. Love for the Mets. Yeah. Look at for the Mets. That's what I mean. They can t that's why I say when BB dubs comes out hot with some shit. And you're like, whoa, buddy. Hey, wouldn't you throw? It wrote down into second coming out of the gate. Hot here with the I'm not afraid of anybody or whatever you say, whatever you pair of come get us or something like that. I love it. I love it. I love every minute of it. But it sightings like this that I think legitimately give you the the confidence in saying something like that. If you're if you're Brody, you realize what Jeb brings and having sat and watched him. Again. I mentioned the versatility. He went over to third base when not chatman was down for a while seamless transition over there more than serviceable. This is a guy switch hitter. So he's he's two players in one. And in my opinion, these days that's extremely valuable when you're talking about the era of the platoon always looking for an advantage is a guy who could create that link to a lineup because of his capability to hit the righties hit the lefties. He's a doubles machine, folks. Love jet lower toaster about a man named John. I'm going to step up. And just be the guy who asked the hard questions on this podcast and jed Lowrie in a vacuum makes sense. Right. Good player. Two years. Twenty million makes a lot of sense the Mets next year and the year after will pay jed Lowrie and Robinson canot a combined thirty four million dollars a year. I ask again wouldn't have made more sense particularly free team in New York to have just signed Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. I mean, the Mets have to be the mystery team on Manny Machado, like why wouldn't you be like I like Robinson? And I like jed Lowrie, but you're paying them what you could have just paid a real actual star. What for a year while they're paying them? Both of these guys for two years, and I will also put forth the jed Lowrie is going to be in his age thirty five season and Robinson can is going to be in his age age thirty. Seven thirty six season. So so does this give any validity to that? Just off the wall completely Bong replayed in thought that I threw out there awhile ago about just dropping thirty five to forty on a guy per year early just couple years. Well, it doesn't even really you. Don't even need to do that like the way that this market is. And and obviously you've had Machado's agent come out and sort of shoot down. I think it was maybe Nightingale and was a BUSTER. Yeah. It's bit. Everybody's just been a bloodbath out that seven years one seventy five and that gets shot down team. Yeah. How is every team? Not in baseball. If what's that twenty five. Yeah. Exactly. So deal like your high, and you should be fired. If you like scouts scouts lose their job for not writing reports and turning in reports on guys that have been really are like earth's r-. Round bit. Like, you just you just can't not have a report on this guy. Because if that's the case you shouldn't be doing this job. You shouldn't be evaluating talent. If you are not at the table for either one of these guys, and it's twenty five year that we're talking about it not at the table. You're not doing. Well, do you believe do you believe the Machado camp that that report is bullshit because if it's coming from multiple reporters, it's like all right? So someone's feeding them bad information it very well could be that. Like, honestly the way that the game is going the way that stuff is is transpiring. The rules are changing the rules are changing so people going out there and dropping these seeds of dropping these nuggets while five seven years ago, there might have been some ethical questioning regarding just like lying or cynical Lambda slaughter on this before the league is done this before what do you mean?.

"You brought up the defense was he had a couple of he has he. Yeah. He he was the twenty eighteen gold glove winner the 2017 goal glove winner and the twenty fourteen go glove, LA, hey, guess what flash. Wanna know where you play deepens fucking everywhere. Not just at corresponds. So here's my question about that. His Gold Gloves have pretty much come exclusively. As a second basement. All good. Do you get like, I'm asking you? I'm not being smart as do you think? Like both of you. Do you think that defense value translates? If you're asking a guy who has very minimal professional experience playing all over the diamond to now play all over the diamond when he's when he when his impact has come basically just at second. They're pretty much telling DJ Lamaze, you we know what you can do at second base. And that's going to be your home. Intel Didi gets back you're in his here every day regularly. We need you to be able to do potentially. What I don't know what a guy like jed Lowrie has made a living doing which is being versatile everywhere in the infield when necessary but being strong in one spot. He just got paid doing that. I mean, what about about two million per less on average annual then LeMay you to your piece in out New York as thirty six year old is he thirty dubs. He's thirty six. Exactly. So I. I'm more than okay with this more than gave it and speaking since we're since we're in New York and j clearly hates DJ LeMay Hewitt. He's doing he's as asking valid questions. I don't know. I don't think either of us are I think both of us are in agreement. I initial reaction to this trade was I think this is a really good signing because I think he actually translates outside of course field. That's what I told people privately. I'm just asking questions that I think are legitimate to ask about a guy who by the way, his batting averages dropped from three forty eight to two seventy six over the last three years and opium has dropped one hundred sixty points. You're going to sandwich him. He you're going to sandwich him in between people in a lineup that I think he can take advantage of way before we move on from digital Mayhew. No one here thinks that this signing because I've seen the headlines that signing DJ LeMay, Hugh, puts the Yankees out on Machado. That's not something that's not real life. It makes it I mean, I make it likely that they're protecting themselves from the outlet. They're not just gonna they're not waiting on Machado. They're kind of saying, hey, we can't fuck and wait around and your decision. Not haven't even made him an offer yet. I think you'd be willing to pull the trigger should the opportunity really presented itself. And they were able to see that they were going to be a very real player. And there was like some serious like, okay, these pieces for let's buck in dance. If they knew that it was that real then. Yeah. I think it would be more than willing to make that move to pull the trigger. Final question for you guys before we move on from LeMay, Hugh, one of the main responses to this deal that I saw on social media was. If you want a versatile guy, why not just sign more when Gonzalez? Ooh, I sure that he was out there. Do you got? Oh, totally totally totally agree. Totally agree. 'cause I love more. Yeah. Marlins. What outfield in first-base everywhere? Do it everywhere. And again, he was a guy. Jay, kind of like what I guess I would be hoping for LeMay, Hugh in that lineup in New York. He was the guy who had success in Astros lineup for. I think some of the same similar reasons where he's guys ahead of him in behind him that afford him the opportunity to just let it eat. You brought up Lowery assured, it sure did jed Lowrie. I'm he I didn't realize because when we had him on the podcast..

"To eight to brought to you by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Okay. And right back to the phones. Philip is calling from freeport, Phillip beyond the fam-. What's happening? Even share. You know that for sure you know, what I think the scare the Yankees yesterday gave out Alex Rodriguez all that money at the end. They send it away twenty five main house, you know. These journal managers. Get scared. Chato harper. I don't first of all the contract does Stephen. I always have been saying. I mean, my two cents. What do I know Philip already? But I've been saying, yeah, they'll probably sign Machado. But they don't need them to be honest with you and what another right handed bat, and I think France ASA earlier yesterday afternoon. No, what is it Friday afternoon was stalking. The inky can put together a lineup with everybody hitting right handed. And of course, LA Mayhew, another right and the Mets at least got is got his evil twin jed Lowrie, not evil both layers good both players utility both know from second base a little bit with the short short stop in the career with third base in the career. They I mean, they got really both the Yankees and the Metropolitans quality utility players. Now, of course, Lowry is thirty four LeMay, Hugh is thirty but they have a glove and both will shore up infield defense whenever they're out there. Steve is calling from munochiveyi. And Steve, you're. On the fan. What's going on? Yes, sir. I wondering what would you want to teach? Teach if I was a teaching. Well, I would be the kind of business and a man or it could it could be American history. That's always fascinated me. I mean, I would really before getting into a classroom due to throw things out. I would have to do a little bit a little bit more studying myself and a little bit more research, but the communication going back and forth. That would be a lot of fun with students. Oh, it's so much fun with kids. Are you a teacher? Oh, yes, sir. I teach a T to create Kate through four. As the most fun ever. I would be no it's the interaction with. Oh and learning as you now goes both ways you can learn from your student as much as they gonna learn from every day. Yeah. I believe that my one Knicks point was the the Knicks can learn from cancer to eat more cheeseburgers lose more more more like games to get Zion. Clemson, well, your bride. I mean, he's the Zion Williamson from from Dookie. Yeah. And the other what was it the other night at thirty and a ten no he's arguably your number one pick would love to see the knickebocker. Let's get him and have knocks on the team have porzingas on the team have Durant on the team have kyri Irving on the team. Can you imagine? It's dreaming dream weaving. But it is dreaming. It's okay. The dream. And that's what you have to be thinking and dreaming watching, you know, as I said a little while ago. I thought it was watching the food channel. There were so many turnovers already. I mean, just horrible not smart basketball, nothing like a deed league team. And that's you hate to say that. I mean, this is not quality NBA. The nets are better. And they show you that there are more competitive team. And so for they have more talent, listen, and they're developing everything is we don't talk losing. We've say they're developing the New York Rangers. They're developing the New York Knicks. They're developing the Brooklyn nets. They're developing ready. John is calling from Ardsley and John you're on the fan. What's going on John, y'all? It's good to talk tonight up. I haven't called in a while. But there's an awful lot going. You know, this this guy. So the nets this, you know, our general manager I've got to give them a lot of credit. He's really putting together a real competitive team. I don't know where the hell. Everybody's gonna play. I feel sorry for that second baseman that was so good. I can't Jane engine field or something like that. So you. For the Mets rookie for the Mets. He played second base this year McNeil. I'm sorry. What would have nothing to be sorry about listen. He's only been around for two months, where he you know, I think this is going to be sunscreen spring training because tied trader this guy that just picked up using all star. I got I would get rid of Tom Frazier. If I could I think, unfortunately, either, you know, local favorite, but he's a little local law. Yes. He is. He's a DA terrific human being you're right with the TOMS river. He's a clubhouse guy but not on the field for nine million dollars yet. I and I'll tell you what I would do with Jeff McNeil because you got casino over there at second. I would have listened in a perfect world that maybe we shall see come spring training with McNeil over their third. Maybe the match will deal. We haven't been Lowry is thirty four, but he can still play with an all-star last year with the yes. Club. Yeah. That's right. It's really gonna concern. The other thing I wanted to say is critically. I to let the Rangers. And I was one quick thing. Sure. I would I wouldn't have signed for yet. I would have went for Robertson. Zeno science. Yeah. But that's. The other thing, you know. I haven't really watched you know, I've been back in the seventies and eighties. Whatever would they moved. I just so I decided to watch the game the other night and watch the Rangers a couple of nights. But you know, they look like ballerinas out there. No hitting. I said boy this chose. They really outplayed. They outplayed the island isn't the third Piero. Sure, they they came alive for you've got to do that from day one from the first I I really, of course. But the island is just in to be coached. Well, wait for that. They got one shot. The jury spark opening one shot by Bailey, and no they have a good coach in the front office. No, they're developing and they're a good team. I mean, listen and the Rangers are the not a good team. And certainly they've lost five in a row. And here's the thing with the Lundquist, and listen, he has a no trade. He's not gonna move anywhere. He wants to end his career as a night. He wasn't in goal the other night and Georgiev was and he's not very I mean, it's not a good team already. So the bottom line is they're developing don't want to say, they're awful. We don't want to say the losing. We're saying they're developing. Tom is calling from new Windsor and time you're on the fan. What's happening? Good morning. Steve. I got back to you. Go. Thanks, tom. No. We were on a bad line. Could hear you perfectly now. Yeah. Good. Well, I was I told ya. I just got off of work, but I wanted to discuss and where do you work I work at Indian point the nuclear power plant. Mo my goodness, you're radioactive. No. I'm not right. From them is not trope now. Well, I was what I was about to say is we're both radio active, very. That's really what I meant. Okay. Now for my first point. Yes. It's gonna be sarcastic. Yeah. The best trade the Mexican make what? Ponds for one day. Okay. Now, my second one is really irks me, okay. How does how Baynes get into all of famous? Listen all same committee. Not voting Gil Hodges, right? I totally agree with you. Harold Baines not a hall of Famer without question. So I agree with you. And you're right about Gil Hodges already. He should begin. Do you think? Oh, no. Yes. Well, and and listen, Tom, thanks for the call. And where he works late. We were both radioactive. He got a little sensitive there with everything I can't remember the name of the movie that Meryl Streep I believe was in about with the power plants with the nuclear. But nonetheless time, I'm glad you gave us a call keep in touch winning hand. Well bottom line is that let's face it already. We are Saturday morning right here on the fan. And we're taking calls about anything and everything including hall of fame Gil Hodges and number fourteen. Where do you think does he belong in the hall of Famer chorus? And the only thing I could think of is that all these Brooklyn Dodgers the boys the summer in there. Maybe they just didn't want to put in Gill Hodges. He was a terrific when he retired. I think among National League hitters. He was number four number five. In home runs now. That's when he retired also a war. I mean, he was a hero and American hero from the war. That's another and nineteen sixty-nine with the managing everything. So hall of fame with the kind of person he was the kind of ball player. He was the kind of war hero. He was a kind of American. He was a kind of New York metropolitan manager. He was of walk into left field. Do you think you think he had the respect of his players taken out clean on Jones and walking out there? Escorting him back to the dugout. I mean, listen, of course, a hall of Famer and Harold Baines. I mean, really, please. Rambo babes. What do we do about that? We don't know where what's that? Randy. What are you saying? Oh. Okay. Randy is Randy has to get a Cup of coffee and relax. Sit down on the couch. Take a deep breath, maybe get a little bit asleep. You'll feel better in the morning once at once the hangover kind of get you back into normal. But listen this happens it's late and it's a Friday night as by himself. So he wanted a little bit company and start talking before we welcomed 'em on one. We have to take a short break, and we have a lineup..

"The Mets signed jed Lowrie. And before you say, oh, who cares? They signed jet. Larry we last year had a really good now. He's not a kid. He's gonna be thirty five on opening day. But he had a really good year last year. I mean last year thirty seven doubles twenty home is ninety nine AVI is. Had a. That it to sixty seven had a three fifty three on base percentage, but thirty seven doubles one triple and twenty three homers now. I guess he's playing third base that plays. Second base is not playing it could play short a little bit. But he's not playing short there. He can play third. Boy, they're really gonna make McNeill into it. They really don't have a job for him that they're gonna make him jack-of-all-trades. All these guys are gonna push the first baseman. Now. What happens the Frazier too? Somebody's going to have a first face. It's mitt to go along with the kid. And maybe one of these guys can play in the outfield. I guess. When the Mets have a conference call. He was brody's guy. Right. Brody guy. Here's a Brody agent Brody was his agent. So that's right. And he could play this. He play thirty can play short. He could play second. But they have to play short. Keynote play second. You gotta figure third is this position unless you're gonna turn them into announce the other. I mean, I don't know if they would at this stage of his career right now we're seeing around two for twenty two for twenty. Okay. One report says at least twenty at least twenty. Let me see if I can find. So the Mets sign Lowry at least two for twenty. I will get you what they're figuring on a position when I come back..
