The clone's growth is greatly accelerated, blah, blah, blah. He becomes strife. So you have a clone that was a kid of somebody who can then travel back in time and then went back into the future and was cloned and then they went and then they had a clone and clone time travel. I remember Al, you referred to X-Men as the comic book version of soap operas. So this definitely a sweet mother. Yeah. It's definitely evil twins and the evil clones and the time traveling and the nobody really dies. Yeah, it's Days of Our Lives, but with adamantium. Yeah. Yeah. That's good. Yeah. If you're listening to this later, he just wears a giant suit of adamantium with, again, this is a 90s villain with the sharp points and fights and everything. And then he has the cape, why the cape. But you know what? Despite everything I said about what I liked about random, I never did like strife. I always thought he was, I just thought he looked, I never liked him. We're all just sitting there going like that space dog. I've never played dead space. Which no problem, dead space two, one of my all time favorite games ever. Really? Yeah. Yo, dead space. All right, by the time this podcast comes out the quarry drops, which is after yeah. Yeah. Made by the people who did until dawn. Until dawn is incredibly underrated 'cause it looks amazing and it's just got a great story and the quarries and shit. And it's supposed to be like one of those horror games. Dead space two is one of those games like Resident Evil Village that you just absolutely can not play in the dark. Outlasted is like that too. Oh, I don't fuck with scary. Yo, so okay, that's why I didn't play. Yo. They'll find that fun at all. It's hard, 'cause listen, I love them, but I catch myself when it gets real dark and I put on my pulse headphones. I'm like, I gotta take these things off. 'cause I don't like jumping. I don't like getting scared anymore. It's like roller coasters, when you reach a certain age, like, what the fuck am I? What am I doing? Am I banging to be scared? But dead space two, the action elements, the weapons story. Like everything, it looked great. The fact that they're redoing it, yeah, you're gonna take my money. Just take my money. Yeah, and it's still like kind of unclear if it's like just gonna be dead space one or if it's like a combination of dead space one and two kind of put into a game, which I hope it is because I love the first dead space is really good, but I don't know. There's some about two and like being on that space station. That was goddamn good. And it's also incredibly graphic as well. All right. It's a violence happening. Yeah, see, in the cool thing is with video games now. It brings me, hold on, hold on. I gotta finish talking about these video games right quick. Go ahead, go. Go ahead, go ahead. "All right, so Al, what's your next one? My next book is X Factor number 71. Okay. So this book, I was actually a subscriber to X Factor at this time, because I originally started off with X-Men. I had my uncanny X-Men subscription. And then, of course, I needed all things X-Men. And so I got X Factor. And leading up to this, it was X Factor was the original team. Prior to this issue. It was the original X-Men team, so it was cyclops Jean grey. I spent these angel and they originally the original concept of X Factor was that they were subversive. They weren't coming out and saying that their mutants and they would go around and scoop up mutants under the pretense that if somebody found a mutant, we don't like mutants, X Factor comes in, they take them, and then you never see them again, but they were really they were just recruiting for perfects or ex and given getting these people to safety and whatnot. And then everything, you know, just kind of the whole ex world was kind of blowing up at the time and it was huge and it was the biggest book that marvel had. And it just, they were going to come out with X-Men number one and they wanted they wanted these characters in X-Men and they also wanted the characters in uncanny X-Men. And so they wanted to keep X Factor going. And I think they came up with this really clever idea of getting the all new all different. And they brought back all of these forgotten characters. And this became like the almost like the land of misfit toys. Yeah. And one of the things that was so great about this book when it became this is this felt as a kid, Spider-Man was around for 30 years before I started reading, reading Superman was around and X-Men was around and they were all established. And this was, you know, really all new and all different. And these characters that you've seen them in other books here and there, but they didn't have any kind of presence. So you felt like you were here at the start of something new. Yep. And so in this book, in this particular story, they're just rounding up the team and getting all these characters together. So we've got havoc, who the last time we saw havoc was in good no show with the extinction agenda. Oh yeah, great story arc, by the way. Yeah. And same with ran, or rain, however you say her name, the wolfsbane. Formally of The New Mutants. She was in genosha and then you've got Guido. Yep. And the only giant behemoth. Who's just always goofy? And the only time I've ever seen him prior to this is he was dazzler's bodyguard..

"And find something different. So then I'm not just part of the mainstream. So everybody was into X-Men. Everybody was in the marvel and I said, I'm gonna find something different and I'm gonna go to image and this new book here called Newman because you know Newman X-Men completely different. Yes. Nothing derivative at all. No, I mean, not at all. I mean, in Newman, they are what they call new Jean positive individuals. They're not mutants. Okay. The new gene also explains the presence of mythological creatures in this world, like werewolves and things like that. And to not be too derivative or just make it like a default, they also later on, explain that the new gene was genetic tampering that aliens had done on human beings. As a way to make certain people stronger and to call out the week and eventually these aliens, which are called to keep are going to come back and harvest all these stronger people to, I don't know, work in their minds or whatever. So again, completely not derivative. The main characters in this book are the initial characters. Was a guy named rain and he's the one on this page. He's in the bottom left. He's got the gem in his forehead. He is a telepath and a kinetic. So not Jean grey or professor X? He can also shoot psychic blasts, which are not at all the same as cyclops is blast. Not at all. So we have rain, and then we have bird who can fly. He originally just had no, he does not fly like an angel at all. That's why his name is bird. Oh, okay. Big difference. He eventually evolved into almost an actual bird. He started off with just wings under his arms. But then he eventually sprouts like talons and actual wings and a beak. It got really stupid..

I guess our readers don't like diversity completely missing the point that readers have a problem with that i if we did have a problem with diversity than so many excellent female characters like storm. "Yeah. The whole dark Phoenix is an extended x men storyline in the marvel comics universe at centers around Jean grey, a female superhero with special powers, and this is called dark, Phoenix. Okay. And so this one is set in nineteen ninety two and mutants, Jennifer, Lawrence Alexander ship, and nNcholas, hold among others have been sent to space to rescue members aboard a damaged shuttle. And while there, gene played by game of thrones. Sophie Turner absorbs a cosmic force. "This first story is about dark Phoenix. And last summer, we learned the dark Phoenix was going back to Montreal for re-shoots. But sources told us at that time that contrary to reports a whopping three months of additional photography. That's a lot right there. They were simply going back for two and a half weeks of re-shoots on the third act of the movie. However, now we're finding out that, that might not. Have been the case in April. We found out the dark Knicks, the dark Phoenix ending was being changed in re-shoots from a space setting to a climax that finds the X men kidnapped and on a military train. Now, we've got James McEvoy telling Yahoo UK that the ending was changed because it was too similar to another superhero. Movie, here's the exact quote the end of dark v. Necks changed a hell of a lot the finale head to change. There was a lot of overlap and parallels with another superhero movie that came out a while ago. And we had no idea that we were dot dot dot com. Trailed off their you know the quote just ended. So let's jump into this, but before I even ask for your opinions, we gotta check the live chat, because there are a lot of people chiming in on whether or not they're planning on even seeing dark, Phoenix. David Jordan, Darrow says got my tickets already reviews. Don't stop me from seeing any DC or marvel movie has called for twenty said got mine. I ten minutes they went on sale. Sale. Kyle Johnson says I'll probably get my tickets next week going in cautiously optimistic. So back to that, quote now what movie do you think James McEvoy was referring to is pretty obvious was captain marvel especially when we talk about the difference in design of dark Phoenix, Jean grey taking away, making less flamy more different in that approach? So it seems to imply plus the train sequence we saw in captain marvel we have that in the trailers, and of course in the movie as well. So maybe there was a lot of that involved here as well. Trying to take away any kind of reference to cap the most he was the most obvious choice. Yeah. Especially when you consider the change in the setting of the third act to from cosmic to on a military train moving away from the cosmic aspect, and that's the thing that before Jeff Thompson here. I don't know if I buy this explanation to be honest with you have a couple of sources who saw this movie early cuts move in March of twenty eighteen and they tell me that the ending was already on earth. So I don't know if this is their way of. Hey, we pitched you space movie, but we had to change it because of that. And so now it's on the ground, I wonder if they're doing a little PR to cover their butts. I don't know. But it seems odd to me that they would say, oh, we're just gonna put it on the ground. Now. We don't want it to be Spacey when people had seen in the first an early cut of this film, and it was already on the ground in front of a certain monument in New York. So I dunno. I thought it was aqua man now there it is. Yeah. I you know, are you signing that sarcastic? It's nice. I don't know what the original ending was. I don't know what the new ending is other than it's on a train. I have no idea what movie could. All right. So even though we don't know specifically how dark Phoenix is going to end nor should we really right now before we even see the movie another question that comes from the story is should a movie even be changed for this reason. Because to me, it sounds like oh, hey. Maybe they should have taken a little more time to develop the story creatively so that you don't run the risk of having. Other movies out there being too similar to your own. That's a good point. Yeah. I don't know. I feel like we saw two different asteroid movies, we've seen to differ Truman Capote moves. It doesn't matter. It's about quality. Can you deliver the goods, even though the you may vote another movie? I don't think it really matters. It's a matters. Can you do it? Well, that's what as at the end of the day, a lot of movies have seen that feel similar to other movies, but they do a distinctly different and make it work with the organic structure of their movie. So I, I don't think it's a way to change things. Dark Phoenix was originally slated to come out before captain marvel anyway, right? So it's like they kind of had they beat captain marvel tha that ending. So why did they switch you know they don't think it's train. Yeah. Something, something doesn't add up to me. And this goes back to Jeff Snyder, the reporters number one rule for being a reporter, which is don't believe anything in actor tells you don't know anything. Well. To be fair. There's there's no to being there to James McEvoy. Things that were debating right now, whether or not their true aren't the specific things that James McEvoy pointed out and said the finale had to change. He was in saying, you know, we changed it from the cosmic thing to the, the trains. Right to stick to maga- voice, quote. I am of the mind that if it is, too similar than than. Yeah. I'm okay with a change. I'm okay with them thinking we have to change this differentiate ourselves in distinguish ourselves in the marketplace, particularly not being a movie that's going to do as well as captain marvel. If that is, in fact, the movie that we're talking about here. So I'm I am sensitive to those creative issues and I don't blame Kimber for wanting to go back and tinker with it. But yeah, I'm with you John, that a lot of this. This is just so much PR on the entire X men franchise, including the next film, which we'll talk about soon, which I don't really fault them at because this is a lame duck superhero film, none of these actors are going to come back and play these characters again, in the MC you Disney and Disney marvel trying to recoup as much as they can from this film. So they're doing this PR pushing I wouldn't put it past someone like McEvoy or fast bender to, like, okay, I'm going to speak about. These are the points. We'd like goes to hit. Okay. I'll do it as part of the PR programs. Part of promoting the movie. No prob. Problem. But I don't fault them. They want to make as much as possible gonna talk about new means a little bit. Same thing. They're just on recoup as much possible for they move on. I got. No. I don't fault them. I just wish I just think people can see through this.

But not in Hollywood everything in Hollywood begins early because summer is when they make all the money that they can make all year. So officially April twenty six it's the beginning of summer because the movie that opens on that day is called a ventures endgame. This is three hours long. Nobody's gonna care. I predict that not only will this be the biggest box office hit of the summer, but it will be the biggest box office hit of the year. You remember what happened last time all the ventures or at least half of them seem to turn to dust than die mean? Now have those ventures that are left to signing if they can beat the evil fan. He so evil will the adventures be wiped out forever. Look how much money did these movies make I'm saying why would you basically kill the golden goose? This is going to continue in some way, we all know it. So what else is out there? I'm looking at my list. There's a major thing going on now of in terms of taking the Disney slash Pixar animated classics and turning them into live action movies. So we have The Lion King line king. One of the most successful Disney animated movies ever is now being done as a live action movie. You have Donald Glover being Simba. You have James Earl Jones actually being this father and the same scores. They're the same using. And it's directed by John Fabbro who did such a great job with the jungle book doing the same thing that I think we can all feel optimistic about what's going to happen. And then we have Aladdin when we remember the. Animated movie who do we remember the most? We remember Robin Williams doing the voice of the genie. This time doing the voice of the genie and being the genie. We have Will Smith. So big stars in this big kind of thing, they tried it with Dumbo earlier this year, and that didn't quite work the way they wanted to do. But we're talking about lying king and the Ladan so big deal. Now, what terms of old fashioned animation is out there. I don't know if you're like me. But there's a Toy Story four toy stories always been my favorite of those Pixar. There's something about Woody and buzz light year, and you're probably saying to yourself. Well, and Toy Story three didn't it happen. That would he said goodbye, Andy. And he went to college, and it was all over remember. There was little Bonnie Andy gave his toys too. So we're going to have little Bo peep comeback. I think when you look at what goes on in Toy Story, you have that kind of feeling of goodness of field. Goodness, but done with all the magic of Pixar. So if those adventures out there are going to have a run for their box office money. I would say Toy Story. Four is going to be the one that does it. So what else we now have men in black men in black international? You're not gonna see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones anymore. But this time you have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As new agents who are out there in this men in black universe. Sometimes you say to yourself do I want more of that? And you never know to actually see it. And I can only tell because I haven't seen this movie yet. But it looks like there's chemistry there. Then we have Spiderman far from home. You know, the Spiderman franchise never seems to end either. But we have Tom Holland who played him last time charmingly, I think, but now spider man, Peter Parker. They're taking a European vacation and the villain that they run up against is mysterious. Played by Jake Jilin. All I just think they're still some special sauce in the Spiderman universe, and I expect this one to also be a major hit. Godzilla Godzilla king of the monsters. I see that. And I go how much can they work this poor God's, but you can look at the trailer and see it. I like the idea that aside from viewer for Megan who is in it, Billy Bobby Brown from stranger things is in its she the dynamo. So if God Zillah can basically meet his match betting on little Millie to do something with that Hobbes and Shaw, this is fast and the furious you remember the rock of playing the the law man, and Jason stefon playing the outcast and the rebel these guys. I don't know if this is Hollywood kind of thing, but they tell us that Jason stadium and the rocked wing Johnson. Don't really like each other. And maybe that what the reason we love these characters and show so much because we liked that conflict. I don't know it seems a PR stunt to me, but I'm going to be there because this cars. There's the rock and their Stefa. So you're going to be there to and you know, it, oh and the big deal. Now, everybody has just in the midst of welcoming game of thrones back to their lives. The last season of that. You can't bear to live in a world where you can't see the stark sisters anymore. Well, now, you can dark Phoenix, which is part of the X men universe. Bring Sophie Turner, and she's Jean grey this character that we've seen before. But she's this younger version of her and she split between the good side of her and the dark Phoenix side of her. And to me, these girls are tremendously talented in what they do on game of thrones. And I think we're going to keep seeing them through the years, but her sister her at least game of thrones sister, maisy Williams is in new mutants part of that universe too. But in this case, they're all new characters to do this. They're all gonna be in the X men universe. Doing it. So that's it for the blockbusters that are out there. You've got everything from animation to comic book characters to everything. And that's the stuff that you hear about that your friends are going to talk to you about. But there's gotta be other stuff to part of summer is comedy of. I think we all really have gone through a long winter. And we're saying make us laugh give us something that will just make say, whatever. I can just sit back and not think. So what's there for that? There's a movie called longshot. This is a movie in which Charlotte Theran is playing the secretary of state who is running for president. But falling Manley in love with who staff throw in. Okay. It's like, a beauty and the beasts thing going on here. Seth Rogan is her speechwriter all of her people say what are you doing? You're going to destroy your career. But no, it's love. And if you don't laugh at the combination of Seth Rogan, Charlie staring. There's nothing left for you. And then we have the hustle. The hustle is a movie that used to be called dirty run scoundrels where the old days it was about conman. Now, it's con- women. They're played by Anne Hathaway and rebel Wilson. And they basically go all cross the continent finding rich people whose money they can steal pretty people. Glamour? What's wrong with that? Oh, book smart. This is directed by the actress Olivia Wilde, and it's about girls graduating from high school and saying we spent all our lives with our head in the books. Everybody else is going to parties and having fun. So they're going to do that beanie Feldstein plays one of them. She is the sister of Jonah hill and real life and Jona hill did super bad. This is kind of the women's version of super bad everything in it works, like a charm. You're really going to like that one. Then we have a movie called late night. This is about the TV talk show world and Emma Thompson plays. Probably the only woman on late night TV who hosts her own show, but she's got only men on her writing staff, and then she hires Mindy Kaeling who also wrote the screenplay of this movie, very very funny about what happens when you put women into what basically has been. A male bass they end of doing this. And the combination of Mindy king writing for the great Emma Thompson and watching them perform together is just so you've got to see that one to my favorite kind of thing. The dead. Don't die. You've got to admit that is a great and funny title. It comes from the indie, directing great, Jim Jarmusch. And it's cut people like Bill Murray and Adam driver by zombies. Okay. If Bill Murray is going to go out there and get laughs. Sizing up zombies. I'm going to be there watching him do it. So we have a good chance for laughs horror. I've got to talk about it now because it's not just the Cajun. Oh movie harm movie that makes money any makes people talk and get happy. It's they're everywhere. Now child's play do you? Remember the old child's play movies where you had Chucky. The crazy nut doll that. Always terrified me. Just. This doll who looks kind of little bit weird and freckly, but he has a voice on him like a longshoreman guess who's doing the west now of Chucky Marquel? Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker. And from what I've seen of it in. It's just been a little bit of it. It's wonderfully malevolent, so I'm going to be there to see that one. Then there's Annabel comes home. Another doll another possess doll also part of the conjuring universe where a viewer for Megan Patrick Wilson. Or the demon knowledge is that tried to make sure that nothing bad can come of this horrible doll Annabelle, but Bill will destroy and I will be there to watch her. Do it then them that follow their certain titles that get me them that follow really gets me? And it's about a snake handling church in Appalachia. No, they there are there colts. And they're almost religious cult where people pray. But they have the snakes, and they hold the life thinks pass them on. And you're thinking, what are you tell me about this like CD movie Har movie will guess who the star of this movie is the freshly minted Oscar winner Ogilby Coleman from the favourite, she's tossing those snakes around so irresistible. I think you're gonna love it. Then there's the Nightingale. See it's does not stop. It's har- everywhere. The night and gas from the director, Jennifer Kent who did a thing a couple of years ago called the baba Duke, which gave millions of people nightmares. And now she's back there following a woman who is chasing a convict got to be hooked. And then midsummer midsummer directed by REI Astor who last year gave us hereditary with Toni Collette, a really scary movie. Now, it's at a nine day Swedish holiday where everybody celebrates. But they'll be no celebrating after this one. So we. Got a lot of stuff out there. That's just going to scare us witless. And I couldn't be happier. All right. When summer comes. We think of all the things I've just talked to you about blockbusters comedy horror action, the rock of everything is there, but every even in a season like this. It's all about money and getting us into our theater, there are those movies that can come out entertain us.
