"But in the back, it was a different story. Only four received top marks when backseat protection was factored in. Three others scored marginal, while 6 rated poor. "Grown in excelled. So that's another, that's another kind of one of those tweener spots that they've done some stuff with in New Orleans and Sean's past. Juan Johnson caught 7 touchdowns this year. We're kind of talking about evaluating players that may be were scouted differently by different people, seeing a new role for them or how they would fit with your vision and assimilating them that way and developing their strengths, right? Look at what he did with Taysom Hill. That's a very unique player who's got a specific skill set that you have to utilize appropriately to make work. Right. And so those are those are some of the things that I think you start to look at and you go, okay, could we could we go after a wide receiver in the college ranks that has the potential to become the dude in our team? With our team. I'll give you a, for instance. You look at obviously Brian Robinson did a phenomenal job with Washington with the commanders at the running back position. But Antonio Gibson, former wide receiver. JD mckissick, former waters here. I think both of them played at Memphis. But they were former, I don't know if JD mckissick did. But kind of fits that almost all state. He played Arkansas state, but Gibson played it at Memphis. It's a couple of wide receivers that all of a sudden become running back when they get to National Football League. Those are those are kind of the unique things that you're trying to do as you're constructing and building this roster. Right. Just finding different playmakers and finding easy path of least resistance ways to get them the ball in positions to actually do something with it. In an open space. Path of least resistance to get them on the football field, right? So if you get a guy who is a bigger type of wide receiver that also is kind of one of those unique talents that runs the ball a little bit, kind of like what they've done with Samuel. In Washington as well. They're not debo, but Curtis. Yeah. Who at Ohio State in North Carolina was just kind of a gadget guy who's become even more of a gadget guy, but we've been able to stay on the field being a gadget guy, but his refined is skill set as a receiver and become a really big time slot target for them as well. So just stuff like that that you can be creative in not only how you get guys, the ball, but how you use them from a position, kind of almost positionless players. All right, so let's recap the offense because that's the offense. The positions of need, backup quarterback, and you're looking for a veteran, right? Yes. You have a name in mind? Yeah, you know, we've talked about guys like teddy Bridgewater. We've talked about guys like chase Daniel, who's what? Why are you talking about Jay's Daniel? Jay-Z Daniel's best suited for being next to you at the Fox desk. Yeah, we'll probably, but he was Drew Brees back up for a while in New Orleans. He knows, you need a guy who can play a little. I'm not looking for him to play at all. I hope he doesn't play at all. What I'm really looking for is a guy who's super versed in Sean Payton's who's been there who's really versed in it and really sees the game the way Sean Payton does to really help Russell because here's what happens to you as a player. A coach can tell you something? And it can register, but it doesn't register necessarily all the way when a player to player tells you, okay, think about it this way. But that's why they have Davis Webb. Right. Well, the nuance, yeah, the nuance, the nuance of having a veteran dude who's been there who's seeing it, who really knows Sean, who really knows a guy like Drew Brees. That's where I would like to see them go get a guy that has been under Sean that has played for Sean. I think that would be a valuable asset to have in that quarterback room. I think he just tripped me up with Chase Daniel. He's old as methuselah. Right. He just can't play, man. I would rather have Andy Dalton. Oh, there's no question I'd rather have any Dalton. 'cause Andy Dalton could play still. But I'm talking about the nuance of this offense. I think it's important to have a guy in those meetings that really know Sean that really understands that offense to really help Russell along the way. And I think it's important to have a veteran set of eyes. They can look at you as another player and go, dude, really? Really? And keep you in check a little. Gonna do for Russ in that regard. Yeah, so that's a good point. Okay. All right, back up quarterback, veteran, doesn't matter if you can play. He just needs to be have it together. Yeah, I don't really even care if he can play. He's got a bill you out for two games, so be it, but I hope he doesn't, okay. All right, I'm going to set the bar just a little higher than chase Daniel, but I see where you're coming from and I totally get it. You definitely need another veteran who respects a little bit in that regard, at least from a football IQ standpoint. We had an experience probably. Running back, latavius and a scat back. Yes, and you can get that. If you don't get that scab back in free agency, you find them in the draft. Wide receiver were pretty set there. If you can move courtland, you do it. Otherwise, bring them back and experiment with him to find the best position for him to have success. Yes, okay. Tight end, we're going to look to upgrade value ads though. We're not going to target a Dalton Schultz out of Dallas. Potentially. Yeah, okay. All right, and offensive line clearly right tackle left guard and an upgraded center if available. Yeah. All right. Defense. Defensive line. What are your positions in need there? Assuming draymond Jones does not come back. Well, then you need a draymond Jones replacement. Those guys grow on trees. Right, yeah, you need a guy. They can play in a three, four front. They can play defensive end and defensive tackle. That has the ability to be versatile in both of those things. So you're going to have to have, you know, you're going to have to have depth there, obviously. But you need a starter. You're going to have to find yourself a starter at that position. Mike klis are Broncos 9 news insider released a few names. I want to run them by you, okay? He put this out in his piece over the weekend with 9 free agents the Broncos could potentially target. And as cliff has put it out there, he's probably heard it from somewhere. Larry ogun Joby, defensive tackle Pittsburgh, formally Cincinnati. Right. Larry Elgin job is a good player, a really good place. He's a really good player. He was about to get a bunch of money with Chicago before he failed a physical, right? Yeah. Last season. And I would look at that as would you rather pay top dollar for Larry Elgin Joby or would you rather pay top dollar for draymond Jones? And if the difference is a couple million, then what do we do? Right, right? Draymond's a younger player. He's 29, right? Draymond's what, 26? I want to say. Something like that. Okay, all right, ogan Joby, he also brings up Greg gaines defensive tackle with the rams. Greg gaines is a good player. I think of him more as a nose guard, I don't think of him as he's a space heater or heat up double teams. He is the equivalent of who plays who's played knows for Purcell. Sure. He's Mike Purcell. Okay. All right, so really, maybe you have the in-house version of that here anyway. Yeah. Okay, so you need a draymond Jones replacement, all right? At defensive line. Are you looking to upgrade any other positions here or more depth?

"This Baker Mayfield. Oh, God. I don't know how to feel about that one. Oh boy. Yeah, I mean. Get it for me. What do we got? Well, as a court at the quarterback position, there's going to be 12 guys that I say, hey, start this guy and you're like, thanks, captain obvious. So I'm reaching down there. But last time. Hopefully, right? Yeah. So you got people, you know, Matthew Stafford could not play. Who knows what's going on in Murray. You could have a snowpocalypse in Buffalo. So you don't want to play Cleveland's quarterback. Why am I drawing a blank? Yeah. So way down there, you have baker. Last time he played in the second half of some garbage time points. He looked really good. He had three touchdowns in the second half. They're playing Baltimore. I think I'll have more opportunity for garbage points. And like I said, I was just trying to get a stretch here. So we'll see if it works out. There are 13 point hundred dog. Right now. So they're going to need to throw the ball, I guess, is your best hope there. Lots of volume leads to a few touchdowns. The offense has looked better, surprisingly, since McCaffrey left, like they're running the ball better, DJ's come alive a little bit. Now that could be PGA walker. Could be a new coaching staff could be just a different vibe in the locker room. So let's see what baker has. I think I'm ready to see Sam darnold again. Give him another shot. Yeah, right? Why not at this point? Start him too? Just start the Panthers quarterback. Anthony started the week. All right. Honda running back. She good Anthony. Good. All right. Start of the week last week for me at running back was Jamaal Williams. He had 14 points, scored a touchdown. I'll take it. My start of the week this week is going to be Brian Robinson versus the Houston Texans. So those Houston Texans, I think I've attacked him a few times this year, are still 32nd versus the rush, allowing the most fantasy points to running backs in the league. Brian Robinson had a career high 26 carries last week. It wasn't the most efficient with them. Got 86 yards and a touchdown, but in fantasy, we will take that, especially for where he's ranked. So the touches will remain high in this game, where there are three and a half point road favorites. And I think Gibson is probably also a good start this week. But it does sound like JD mckissick could be back, so I think it will eat into some of that pass catching role that Gibson has had pretty much exclusively for the last few weeks with mckissick out. And Robinson doesn't get any targets, so that doesn't affect his workload at all.

For some, I'm just gonna really give up on these a bunch of pick swaps. Lions move up in some picks and they send TJ hawkinson to the Vikings here. Bummer for the Lions. This whole year has been a bummer for the Lions. I don't know, mate. It's like we're tearing this thing down again. Yeah, but here, so here's my, I'm gonna try to really galaxy brain this thing. So follow along. TJ hawkinson, you probably drafted. I mean, when you took him, right? This was the height of Kelsey and kittle. You're hoping that that's gonna be the guy. He is not, and Dan Campbell has said this at press conferences. He's not a good run blocker. Has not been a good run blocker in the NFL. Not as good as you need it to be. So for the Lions, let's play devil's advocate and say they're determined to keep this going with Dan Campbell. You have a great offensive line. And so even if you drafted a handsy tight end who's not a good blocker, pine soul or tailor decker helps him enough where you could get the job done, right? Yeah. And you can negate the bad blocking. So you don't want to extend hockinson, so that's kind of what you're thinking, right? Maybe that's the route that you go. I don't know. I mean, maybe that's maybe that's your devil's advocate. The other side of this is like if you're Dan Campbell or you just kind of like, well, that about sealed it, you know? And can you blame Dan? Because listen, this is a former NFL tight end. And I'm not saying that he's got time to fix TJ hawkinson, but like he should be able to hire a pretty damn good position coach who can fix TJ hawkinson, you know? Or maximize him. But I don't think we saw any of that, you know? So, I don't know, I think hockey has just been okay. With the Lions and the Vikings are, again, it's sort of like the chub thing, right? They're gambling that they can make him more than okay. But they also just needed a tight end. I mean, irv Smith got hurt and they have to have a guy. And hawkinson is probably your definition of a guy at this point. Yeah. No, I'm totally fine with this from the Viking standpoint. Toy logical, that's not really that much draft capital to give up to address what became a need, but aw man. Do you care that they're trading with the division rival constantly? No, no. I know a lot of people do. Or it seems, I mean, no, and you've written this at least once. Well, I mean, you say it. It's your thought. But I agree with it. What's that? It's just like there's so many avenues to the playoffs. You don't, it's cool to win the division, I guess, but there's so many avenues to the playoffs. I don't know. And it's like, oh, we see them twice a year. It's like, well, if you're trading them, you probably don't mind seeing them twice a year. Right. Yeah. I mean, and again, it's like it could work the other way around, where if you just smash the lion's heads in with TJ hawkinson next year, it really, it demoralizes them a little bit, I think. Let's go to buffalo where the bills get, they get dean marlowe back in the secondary. Nice move there. I guess. I like dean Marlo fine. But the bigger one was obviously najim Heinz from Indianapolis here. We'll start with the bill side of this and then we'll talk about the colts and we also have to talk about a coach fire with the golds. But yeah, look, the bills have very much been in the market for that check down back as Connor or branded it. It's the year of the check down in the NFL. They tried to get JD mckissick. Mckissick ended up changing his mind and going back to Washington. They were in it for Christian McCaffrey, just didn't want to give up what they had to give up. So they get nahim Heinz, who is, yeah, he's a stepped down for McCaffrey, but he's still really good. They drafted James cook. The only mild disappointment I feel is like, well, James cook is coming off his best game as a pro, probably. And it felt like, all right, well, maybe you have something going on here with James cook. And he'll still have a role going forward, but obviously they wanted someone a little more reliable and frankly, probably a little bit better at this very moment. And that is not a heme Heinz. I keep thinking about and I feel like I've said this like 11 times, so I don't know if I'm yelling on other radio stations or from just telling my wife this, like in our sleep or my kids, but how are you gonna defend the two of them coming out of the backfield together? Like, Josh Allen rolling out and Heinz is down there ready to take a check down, like they're just two of the most stylistically different human beings in the NFL. Like one is a small burner who you're gonna need a very specific kind of person to be able to bring down or group of people and one is a the brawny paper towel man that's gonna be carrying the ball into the secondary and that like with the axe, you know? So very hard to bring down. And so how do you, how do you account for that? Because a linebacker is not gonna get it done on Heinz theoretically. I mean, you're gonna have to have a good linebacker to chase him, cover him. And a cornerback's not gonna be able to tackle Josh Allen. So it's like, what do you do there, you know? SmartBear and still in the NFL, do you just go get Mark Barron? Is he still in the NFL? I don't know. No. No, he had a nice run in a couple of spots. I think he was in Pittsburgh last and Denver lex. 2020 played the pandemic year at the Broncos. Okay, all right, Mark Barron and I are like the same age. How about that? Huh. Interesting. Okay. He had a way better NFL career than I did. He did. Boy, I don't know why I said that. Just to be clear, I agree with that. I'll always remember Mark Barron for being the, this is going to be such an antibiotic take, but I agree with him 100% and it's one of his least popular takes. The tackle eligible touchdowns, and there was like a run back when Barron was I think still in Pittsburgh, maybe he was in LA at that point. Maybe it was with the rams. But Detroit did one. And there was this all sorts of confusion with the official announcement of who is eligible, didn't really come through and there was just a really frustrated Mark Barron

"He actually was a good player in 2020, and then last year he tore his ACL. So I don't know that his lack of NFL success, look, you can always, you know, you can always expect a player to do more, I don't know how much of pepper's lack of success in the NFL I put on him. I think he's been in some really bad circumstances. I'm not saying the Patriots are what they were ten years ago, but this right now is the best situation he's ever been in. It's the best situation he's been in since Michigan. I know he's coming off that torn ACL, but boy, if it really feels like if he was going to click, this is the time and place to do it. And if he does click, if we do get, 'cause he's shown flashes, but he hasn't done a consistently. If we can consistently see Michigan jabril peppers in the Patriots defense, that could really be something. He'll be a playmaker. He'll be not just a contributor, but an impact player, if all of that happens. Yeah, it's one of those moves where you hope that Bill Belichick is going to put him in the right places, use his skill set properly and tap into that first round potential. This is still a player that ran in the mid four fours at 213 pounds sub 7 second three cone over 35 and a half inch vertical leap at the combine in 2017 and then also had probably the best defensive season of any player in that draft in 2016 on tape. So that guy I do think still exists somewhere in that mold. Now is he going to be as good as what he might have been coming out of college if the Patriots could have gotten their hands on him in the 2017 draft. No, it didn't have a first round pick in that draft and it wasn't going to happen. Regardless, I still look at the guy in peppers that he is now. I had turned on that tape last year from the Giants and I get he's coming off the ACL, but it did happen early. It happened in week 6 or week 7 sometime in October. So he's gonna be plenty healthy come training camp by the sounds of it. Turn on the tape against the Washington commanders and this is a guy that's playing multiple roles mostly playing in the slot, but also playing some in the box playing some deep blitzing as you mentioned garden guys like Logan Thomas J D mckissick coming out of the backfield playing some zone roles over the middle of the field and having a lot of responsibility in that defense and you could tell that he was able to handle most of it, sifting through options in his own coverage. Understanding motion and how it affects where his assignments are. Banged up the scene with Jordan Thomas. He was a good tight end in Washington that he's running up the scene with JD mckissick, good pass catching back that he was able to match out of the backfield on a couple of routes. That tape that you saw against the commander's last year and some of those early season tapes with the Giants last year reminded me a ton of Adrian Phillips. And I think that that's probably the best comp on the Patriots current roster. I think Duggar and peppers are a little bit different players in terms of physicality, play strength. I think Duggar is a little bit bigger, a little bit thicker. It brings a little bit more in that respect of the game. But in terms of how he was used, the assignments that he was used in, the roles, those types of things..

"Again, we just found out deshaun Watson and shocking everyone changed his mind, apparently. And is now going to the browns. Pulled the JD mckissick, changed his mind and said he's going to go to the browns. We're waiting to see the term. Pulled like a four different people this week. Andy Gregory backed out of his deal with the cowboys, went to the Broncos, NFL free agency has gone off the rails. Everyone is just no one can make up their mind and yeah, it feels a lot like NBA free agency where it's just like absolute chaos from the minute it starts and then you're gonna look at the league in two weeks and be like, wow, all these people change teams. This is ridiculous. It's pro wrestling style. It's the year of the swerve, but it's a lot of fun. Definitely enjoying enjoying what we're seeing there. "I would grade them out as probably a net negative, but it wasn't defensively they kind of saved themselves a little bit. The bills get von Miller. Big contract there. Kind of a surprise. We knew von Miller wanted to play for a contender, but we figured it was going to be either LA or Denver. And he's off to buffalo. And look, there's not a whole lot to break down here. He's an upgrade over Jerry Hughes, is a wonderful Jerry Hughes, had been in Buffalo. And this is what you have, especially if you're in the AFC, you need to win with a four man pass rush and von Miller is a guy who helps you do that. I love pairing him with the defense that has Micah Hyde and Jordan poyer, you know, 'cause they already hold quarterbacks in the pocket longer than probably any safety tandem in the NFL. You got some beefy guys in the middle and you got a coach who loves to stunt, I think this is a home run. Now, you're probably gonna suffer mildly twice a year against the Patriots because I do think that Vaughn is the net negative against the run right now. And I think he has been for a while. But I mean, you have larger aspirations there. I mean, even if you wanted to play von 30% of the snaps against the Patriots, I don't think anybody's going to care or judge you on that. Because they can neutralize you on that. Mac Jones just gets rid of the ball really quickly. And probably we'll get rid of the ball even more quickly next year. This upcoming season. But so in a lot of ways, it's like, okay, Vaughn struggles there, but like he could legitimately between the jets and the dolphins have like 30 sacks this year and with that defensive line with that safety tandem, that's I don't think any team knew themselves as well as the bills did in free agency. Like everything was so, really wonderfully targeted. And they finally got that second tight end too. I mean, I had been hearing before free agency last year that they were on the short list for the earth's trade and that they really they really wanted him and ended up just not materializing for the value and credit for going out and getting someone younger. I mean, OJ Howard can block, I think he is just never really got out from underneath the target share in that offense. I think there's just a lot to like about that signing. And then roger saffold the cod summit inside outside zone guy. So great, great signing there. Screen game Maestro. Let's see it guys. They did miss out on JD mckissick when he got away. But in a way, and again, the check downs are going to be big this year, but if you have Josh Allen, there's less of a need for the check downs because his scrambling in a way is your check down in a lot of situations there. I love the Tim settle ad, I think Tim settle is not a major upgrade, but an upgrade over Harrison Phillips in the middle of that line, who they lost the Vikings and free agency. And yeah, you said it with Howard. I don't want to be a draft slot dork here, but I love the idea of getting a talented guy who played on a team where the coaching staff just wasn't very good. And by the time Tom Brady got there to sort of fix that offense a little bit, he was behind rob krakowski in the pecking order there..

"Hey by the way the mar- if you fumble again please don't stay down on the field that long because we all thought you were injured. Yeah and Shrager also telling me that tyson williams had to botched handoffs which. I guess i did not know. So maybe they're just not trusting him fully. Yeah he's learning and the terrorists could be more more dependable and we'll see if you want you know. Summit up singly is williams is more dobbins so he'll get a few more touches in has a lot more explosiveness at this point. Marie more edwards. You know he'll be a little bit more of a reliable guy that they can lean on but not necessarily explosive player. Look look that way. When you ran the ball the touchdown save if you have to start. Let's go to the drop meters zero to ten zero. No way am i dropping. This guy ten. he's already. I already drop them. Cut him at halftime. Jd mckissick sixty seven percent roster did not have a catch he ran ransom routes. He played on third down but no catches in this game. So jana mckissick for philip lindsey. Seventy five percent rostered seven allies more sixty one percent for dave not giving up on lodge but not very optimistic like i. Don't i don't like when people react week. When i'm not saying he's doing that but like it's one game you like this guy. I guess so. But he wasn't a high draft pick. I mean he's only sixty one percent rostered right. That's they've guy. Play some okay so you drop him for. Obviously all the top guys. Would you drop and go. Receiver for mike williams. Yes for beasley. Yes for sterling shepherd. Yes probably for tim. patrick okay. That's the extent of eighty five percent. Roster matt ryan at tampa bay I haven't lived says drop. Yeah i i don't think anybody starting him look bad against.

So weird name. It's one of many hard-working chicagoland suburbs. Okay from He says hey people other thread albert father be ohka. I don't know and this is from the last kingdom on netflix. I'm just not going there. Twelve team half. Pbr league with two flex spots. Who should i start from this group. Pick two half pr juju deontay. Jamison crowder daryl henderson coal commit and jd mckissick. Grab your yellow towel. You're starting to steelers half might have henderson over juju. Just trying to look at that would be very very close but definitely deontay. And let's go with a school with anderson for what it's worth. I'm it's probably not worth much. But the steelers passing game was horrible against the bills last year. So little risky to start both of them. Noah in the capital of california sacramento. Yes carmichael dave. Hey derek rich. Jamarcus and carson raiders quarterbacks. Ten team full. Please choose to russell. Gauge chase edmunds damian harris rahim. Moster jomar chase brown and john smith. I'm going to eliminate gauge saint brown and smith. So let me read it again. Pick to edmonds. Damian harris most engine marches most of them had bins yes. I'm probably going to lean that way too. And you've got to be one of them with me. Eliminating gauge site saint brown smith right. We're not starting. I might. I might put harrison there. I might put. I know he's not going to catch the ball. Our last emails from adrian adrian and a ten team. Yeah ten team half pbr league. He has nick chubb. He also as kareem hunt any miles. Gaskin and chase edmunds. I find myself thinking. I should start chub and hunt on a weekly basis. I recall last season games in both went off. Cleveland runs their offense through the backs. I checked scoring from last season. Both backs were top. Ten even though chubb missed four games. Am i crazy to think they could do this again. Considering week one is at the chiefs. I figured this is a relatively safe week to deploy my theory given hunt's involvement in the passing game. Tell me why. I shouldn't do this all season long. Start both browns running backs. There were only five games out of twelve that they were both active for. I believe they're both active for twelve where they both scored at least thirteen points. So i would start there as a reason to not start both yeah. I'm a little bit worried about what happened to hunt down the stretch and like we talk about his involvement in the passing game in their playoff game against the chiefs. Nick and kareem hunt combined four three catches for six yards Hut was actually better. In that game score the touchdown. I i wouldn't start hunt over gaskin. I wouldn't hate starting hunt as a flex this week. Yeah and maybe going. Well okay. yeah. I don't know it's just it's not really it's not really maximizing your your upside there what you wanna do it when the browns have a great match where they should be able to run the ball a ton. Well this is a pretty good matchup. isn't it. I mean it's donna points and they're going to. They're going to need to score the thing. We you don't know because i think the chiefs generally speaking will allow you to run the ball between the twenties. It is a pretty good matchup for yards per carry..

"Mckissick of is gonna say jd. Mckissick stays involved in the offense and ryan fitzpatrick throws the ball. Downfield like we expect them. To and gibson has touchdown regression from australia. We all expect him to. And i think there's also just a chance like he walked onto an nfl field and average four point seven yards per carry. Which isn't like it's not. What jacob dobbins did last season but pretty good in a way that may not be entirely sustainable. You know he. He definitely had some stretches where his efficiency waned even when he got more work. And so it's possible. This wasn't a can't miss running back prospect. He's really good running back. Yeah and a lot of things we liked about him where the fact that he was a really good receiving prospect. So what if he's just a guy as a rusher one. If you averages four point two yards per carry which is well within the realm of possibility and doesn't dominate goal. Line work like he did last season. Maybe more effective as a passing team and they don't need to rely on him near the goal line is much we're talking about one hundred and seventy carries here at the nfl level with a four point seven yards per attempt. That's really good but yeah it's a very small sample size and there's still a lot of different ways it can go. I think the bus potential for antonio gibson is just what if he's not as good as he looked like last year giving definitely moments where he looked great and they're also definitely moments where he was a small part of the offense. He couldn't get jd mckissick off the field. Even before alex smith took over. Yeah he beat up on dallas and cincinnati. I mean this is what i said. You know his his best games were against these horrible teams. he's going to face bad run defenses. But i don't want him to be just a matchups guy because he doesn't have this role in the passing game because mckissick is there and you know there are a couple of names. Come to mind in jordan howard. Jordan howard averaged five point two yards per carry as a rookie and never even came close to that after that jeremy hill average five point one yards precarious. A rookie never averaged more than three point. Eight for the rest of his career except for four carries in two thousand eighteen Those guys that were very excited about as your two players and howard kind of lived up to his draft position because he got so much work but he wasn't. He wasn't a great running back and i think having worried about that with gibson a little bit you know and and nobody else seems to be you know i. I'm craig i thought for sure. Mixing should be going ahead of gibson. But when i did. My twitter poll was almost fifty. Fifty gibson had a slight edge. People really people hate joe mixing let for what he did to them last. And it's personal with nixon..

"That type of thing if he doesn't win off the snap. You know, he generally will get stymied, but that's the thing about this defense along the way they built it, and they've over invested in it quite honestly. Montas sweat they traded for back up into the first round in the Dwayne Haskins draft, which was a disaster. Two years ago, and he really, really, really developed last year. 66 can knock down SWAT passes left and right, just big wire. We long frame guy on then, in the middle, you have oh, by the way to other first round picks Jonathan Allen, playing on the fifth year of his contract under the 50 year option in Tehran. Pain who was also a first round pick, both out of Alabama, who's also now Set to make his fifth year option. Actually, next year on then you have a couple of more service guys that come in, and Matt. I unite us and since settled, so there 67 deep on that offensive line, that's gonna be the biggest challenge for any team that goes against Washington this year, including the Bills. Is how you deal with those guys. Now, the one thing I would say guys, they're susceptible to getting run on. They are one gap penetrators. They like to get up the field. They want to stop the run on the way to the quarterback, and that leads to sometimes then being out of place. So if you concrete's them a little bit, I know both load struggles. You know to run the ball consistently, which guys me crazy, But if you concrete's them a little bit and stay patient with run this defensive line on what they could be had, But certainly you can. You can wear them down and you can have some success against them. If you're patient were with Chris Russell Team 9 80 in Washington before I get to the closing question on Patterson with Fitz and the weapons in the passing game. What do you think about the parent? They're gonna have now of Samuel and McLaurin and Former Bill Logan. Thomas had a good year last year, Right? How much does he factor into their passing game? Oh, Logan's great I mean, you know, it's just a tremendous turnaround story. You know what you have 70 catches or whatever it was last year, six touchdowns. He was awesome. Any should theoretically only get better. Um, you mentioned Samuel. They obviously paid him out of Carolina. He could run up in the slot outside. You can line up a running back. He could do all sorts of things. Jet sweeps. Um, so that's gonna be a big factor in McLaren is Just like, you know, he's a great route Runner. Speedy guy get tough catches everything, but they drafted the Army Brown out of North Carolina late part of the third round, and he's much In terms of his build and speed and repertoire. Kind of like what terror McLaren has turned out to be. Now he's gotta prove it obviously s O. They are pretty good in that area and Antonio Gibson at running back. JD McKissick kept running back so they throw A natural running back screen a lot more than they used to. I think Fitzpatrick is shut up, absolutely by form to be in the best situation of his long soldier in here and career in terms of making the playoffs and, ironically comes a team number nine and, you know, you guys know obviously, that's tragic sits magic. All that He's been much better. A plate in Tampa and Miami got jobbed last year. I think this is the year where you know where he gets his opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time in his career, so wonder Jared Patterson's chances of making the roster. I think they're pretty nation. Because if you look at, um this this depth chart they lost Bryce Love the kid out of Stanford, who they drafted a couple years ago who just could never get on the field. And they have. I just mentioned Antonio Gibson that JD McKissick and Peyton Barber. Those two guys are on the last year of their contracts. McKissick really not up your running back. He's more of a pass. Catcher. Barber is a short yardage guy. He improved that area for Washington last year. But he's You know again, not a explosive wiggle type back, so I think if You know, I think it's a young kid from Buffalo can come in and show them that he can hit the whole hard in between. You know on inside zone runs and then still be able to bounce it out which juice? And I think he's got a shot. Especially they can catch the ball again. Hard to tell based on the two rookie minicamp practices that I was just at over the weekend because there was just nothing going on. It was just simply positional. True, but I do think he's got a chance. Good. Chris. Thanks. Thanks for giving us a little bit in for their on the week. "Offensive lineman. He's the top 100 pick. You thought he could border into it into the first round. I still feel pretty good about putting him in day to the center guard is gonna be tough, but top 50, I think for sure on that puts you in the top. You know, 18 20 picks the second round so I would be willing to place a cool crisp. Benjamin Franklin that he makes top 50. All right, So let's go through some of the guys in the national team. I would throw out some names, and we'll just talk about whether or not that they impressed you. And they kind of move the draft boards of guys that sometimes you're gonna be fits for the Broncos and sometimes not so much. Dwight, Ask Ridge is a guy that absolutely impressed while out there from western Michigan wide receiver he was day one all the way through the week looks spectacular. Yeah, top 1 50 players, no chance that he doesn't and I think there's Is a team or two. I've kind of got circle for him. Actually, At this point. He's pays his coach Eric, Western Michigan in the league now, so if people can connect the dots on that they should build to figure out where I think he's gonna go. Demetrick Felton play, We'll see. L A. They play well lighted. Both receiver running back. Got that versatile your mind like a JD McKissick or somebody like that. I was thinking Antonio Gibson because he was the guy that was there last year. That was kind of the both running back wide receiver ended up having a great year out Washington this year, he kind of remind me a little bit of that. He went more from running back to wide receiver. It's not the same way that Antonio Gibson but Demetrick Felton absolutely had just in an overall. Great week. He once again, you know, you knew why receiver is gonna come out. Highland Wallace was a guy that you liked, right? Only on from Oklahoma stale thick. I didn't think he improved as the week war on. It's not overall. He was decent prospect. If the Broncos are interested in the day, three wide receiver, I wouldn't be upset about it. Yeah, I mean again. I don't think the Broncos gonna be in that for receivers to too much, but somebody will be enough for him, and I thought he did pretty well. Okay, let's keep going through. We could give you a Nico Collins breakdown from Michigan. I thought he was He was okay. Um, let's let's get to the inside linebackers because there's a couple of guys I wanna highlight. So the national team they had the Ohio State Trio, right? Yeah. Justin Hillard. You had tough Borland and the man Aaron Brown Man Bear Browning, which is a dude, by the way that that could line up at outside linebacker if you really wanted him to. I think he has some versatility. A Z either a pass rusher or can play on the inside. But if I'm the Broncos, and I'm intent, I'm getting an inside linebacker. I'm 100% looking at a two guys and this will be on day two more than likely. And so you were looking at either Barrett Browning or you're looking at what was number 9? 19 is what I'm thinking of job. Real Cox at l s U for the American team. Such a real Cox And Barry Browning for me. Ah stood out above all the rest when it comes to the inside linebackers and the guys that you want to have this team thought they both had great weeks. I like I came in liking. Barrett Browning Cox. Those things you watch him. The speed was miss. Maybe you take different, You know, you kind of look at him. You see, It's just that he's just a better athlete. You know. Overall, that's not take anything away from drowning. But I think Cox is a better athlete probably goes, will hire in the draft, but I would be fine with either one of those guys here. Put him next to Alexander Johnson. Man. You gotta You gotta tough duo there, the guy that I was really excited to watch during the course. The week was Levi Rosary, Kay, and he only got the one day but he did have a good first day. He was one of those guys where you kind of knew that he was more. I mean, he's coming off of Ah, not that year. You kind of knew that he was gonna have a non opportunity early on in the practice week. If you got a little banged up, which it seemed like he did. He was likely going to Rest. He's the top 100. Maybe even for our top 50 kind of player. There's some people out there that thought he could be the best defensive lineman this interior defensive lineman in the draft. I don't think he necessarily put himself in that tear, but for me a no doubt top 50 place. So if you're thinking about a defensive line of the Broncos, right when they get to the turn there at the second round, Levi Rosary K and then Dalen Hayes He's another guy that I thought really impressed. Impressed and moved up his draft stock. Yeah, those retail like Hayes. I didn't get the watches much. I'm trying to think Notre Dame. Yeah. No, I'm trying to it was the kid from Pittsburgh. Want to mention him? I thought he looked. His name escapes me at the moment. I'm gonna Patrick Jones. Yeah. Um, but, Yeah, I didn't get us see Hazel's much had that one spectacular day like you, and you didn't. I don't think he did much in the third day. But the second day he had a couple of shed blocks for T F. Els. And then he also had a strip sack. That's right. That's the quarter from the strip. Sex. Yeah, No, I didn't get much chance to watch him. Is that one of light so that that's one? I have to put a pin and take your word for it. Okay? Anybody else on the defensive line pass rushing out? Jonathan Cooper was a guy there was excited about the thought he did okay, as far as the week from Ohio State. I'm trying to think about anybody. Other pass rushers. I mean, Carlos passion was attacked. But every already knew that he was one of the best players coming in. Yeah, No. You absolutely knew that was going to be the case and one guy that I thought people were a little bit down on. Unnecessarily. I'm trying to find him. He's one of the big dudes out there. Um, it was kind of interesting because this this particular group, they were missing a lot of defensive tackles, kicking a lot of the ends inside and put him out of position play and then some unforgettable, washed and had people air quotes down on them a little bit. Or maybe, you know, it's just a guy playing out of position. And Marvin Wilson was one that from Florida State, you know, this is another guy that I've seen in some first round MOX. That some people were a little bit down on his performance over the course of the week. I don't think he actually ended a practice in the last day, but some people were a little bit down on him. A couple of guys that absolutely impressed if you're looking for offensive tackle that were kind of jumping all over the place here, But we're just kind of going over some of the guys that are in my notes here. Daniel Raton's I know your state..

"The third game is in the second quarter. 12 59 left. And Washington has just scored a touchdown here to make it 96 bucks over Washington with the extra point coming, so I mean, Alex Smith. Courtney is out because of his calf injury. Taylor Hi, Nikki. Has gotten the start. And you know, Tampa got off to a better beginning with a Tom Brady touchdown to Antonio Brown. But Washington gets the ball back marches down the field and they're on the board. Extra point is good. 97 Washington trails the bucks right now here early second quarter. I don't think anybody who would have thought like Taylor. Hi. Nikki would play well in this game. And obviously, you know, it's it's early on is you know 59 for 93 yards and an interception, but No, he said. He's good with his feet. He's had a couple scrambles that you know, helped them down in the red zone. You know, they're having to do this without Ronald Jones, because they're the bucks are going to have to do this. Is that Ronald Jones and study that you take away Part of their rushing attack. So you think about what the bucks what Washington's gonna have to do defensively. It's not just a game that you're gonna be hoping for a prayer on special teams and that your pass rush is going to be able to affect Tom Brady. I think offensively at least early on J D. They look like they can hold their own. But we're gonna see y'all on that last. JD McKissick had the short touchdown run on third and goal. That's how Washington got on the board again. 97 Bucks in front early second quarter so good game in the night cap. The other two games were also pretty competitive today. First Buffalo Bill's home playoff game since 1996 and their first playoff victory. Courtney since 1995 Bills win 27 24. Over the Colts of Josh Allen, a very good game making up for last year's kind of uneven postseason performance. He throws for 324 yards and two touchdowns to find digs. Catches a touchdown. So obviously there was euphoria with the bills. He was their head coach, Shah McDermott, sharing his feelings after the game got is good. Just Extremely, extremely blessed. It figures to be a part of this with me and my family. And, uh, You know? So you know, all of the next one Alistair looking for he gets arrested. I am just relaxing a little bit and watch some of these other games play and But it's no reason to play offs and I thought our guys Our guys really showed a lot of guts to do it. I mean, tough game, Cordy back and forth. The Colts were gained. They've had a great defense all year. Good offensive line. Philip Rivers certainly was pretty good today, also throws for two touchdowns. Um, but in the end, you're the bills make the defensive play Micah Hyde bats down the Philip rivers of his final pass attempt. And there you go, Bills Mafia as the first playoff win in the quarter of a century. I feel great for the bills and their fan base and how long it took for them to get to this point. I mean, they've been on the up and up for a couple of years now and to finally see it culminate in a playoff win. No. I'd like to see this team go to the Super Bowl. They probably would be the most exciting next to the Chiefs and, you know, have a fresh story line there. But on the flip side of that J D. I feel really bad for the Colts and how their season ended. They're not your typical seven seed and granted. They were the first seven seed to play in the playoffs, and we'll see what happens when the Bears do it tomorrow. But Cash, Some of the play calling and I know that Frank Reich was aggressive, and it's good, and that's how they were on fourth down throughout most of the regular season, but Going for two early on when, when Jonathan Taylor gets stuffed right at the goal line and costly, fourth down decision when they're up at the end of the first half 10 to 7 and then buffalo goes and drives down the field. Really, really quickly until there's 14 seconds, laughing. They run off 17 straight points for a 24 10 lead, and then the Colts are fighting back from that. It just felt like they got overwhelmed so quickly in that game and as much as they tried to fight back is eventually after the failed two point conversion attempt. They had to go forward to get on that second touchdown on the touchdown after that, It was too little, too late and I hate it for Philip Rivers because I know that he has been milling retirement. And apparently there's something lined up and he might be of high school coach next year, but obviously nothing final. But I would hate for this to be the way that he goes out even though I kind of feel that That's the way it's trending. We had a great year. I mean again. They were 11 win teen They were right there with the bills after the Chiefs, the second best team in the F C this year. The rivers throws for 3092 touchdowns and here was the veteran quarterback after the game, was asked if he had decided yet whether he was coming back next year. No, It's not that easy. Um, you know, um I mean, I don't know this round with an answer often, but I think this probably sums it up. Um, whatever God's will is for me, my family. If it's here on any plane of the year, there will be here and if it's not, I'll be on the sidelines somewhere. I know where I'll be on the sidelines ball cap. Coaching the heck out of the hospital football team down in south Alabama, So whatever God's will is, is what is what I want that and I'll be fine with that. Stick like, keep going. I'll go on. And all of that answer would be nothing but a bunch of emotion talking, but I think that zoo the other day that's clearly what will guide the decision. They think about this too. I let's say for the Rivers does retire. How attractive is that Colts quarterback job going to be next year? I mean, they can't They have to go out there and hit another home run. Don't think I mean they have to be involved. With one of these quarterbacks that is rumored to be on the trading block. Yeah, I don't know if Houston would trade somebody in their division a trade to Shawn Watson to somebody in their division. But if I'm the Colts, I'm offering the farm because You need. They're not in a place where they're gonna be drafting high and their quarterback may retire unless you want to roll with Jacoby percent. I just don't think that you know they need to shore up that position and make sure that with the rest of this roster the way that it's been built, and they've got a very talented team and their defense, I mean The question everybody was posing this week. Why have they been playing more single high? Will their corners have actually played really well, the last like 67 weeks of the season, and you know they can disguise some of their coverages. It's I think it's the reason why Matt Superfluous is is, you know a top candidate right now for multiple head coaching jobs, especially since there's not that many defense of guys who are getting these interviews. They've done really well, so make sure that you hit a home run with that quarterback position. I mean, they were obviously involved last year in free agency getting rivers once you know he moved on from the Chargers, but Have to do it and back to back years. That's tough in. You know, I need to take a look at what their cap situation is. But if you want one of these top guys that either you know Carson wants potentially Makes sense because he played for Frank, right when he was in Philly, or even into Shawn Watson..

"jd mckissick" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader

"Minutes who will be the last team to qualify for the playoffs starting next week? Hand, the Washington football team muster a drive to put this game away. Can the Eagles defense makes a big stop? Eagles will continue to be aggressive. Obviously, the Peterson that's how he plays the game. He went for it on fourth down, but there's gonna be people. Giant fans going. Take the points. Take the points. Date. You know what could be playing for a draft choice to how does Washington get their offense going here in the fourth quarter jaws off until I got to show up. They have not been very good. Clearly, Alex Smith has been under pressure. I think Washington. Look. Scott Turner, the clay colored understands they can't handle its legal defense line. They're trying nothing down the field, I start bringing in extra tight end or two. Also maximum protection go some one on one type rock to try to get the ball down The field is thinking Duncan's not gotten done since the first quarter. Well, we'll see if Washington can convert a 3rd and 11 for their last six on third down third and one from their own 24. They're shot Smith and the gun receivers left and right. Smith gets the snap. Holds it out. Hands it off running straight ahead, his barber stretching. I don't know that he got there. If he did, it was the second effort that got it for him. It depended on the spot again. The ball has got to touch the 25 yard line. I think he's just short Jaws. I think he is inches short note. Now they're signaling first down, John Man would say if it's his left foot or right foot. It was a left foot but gave it up for the first down. That was very close. They have the nose of the football just shy of that 25 yard line. But Ron Torbert took a look and said First down Washington converts It'll be first. Said good spot for the Washington football teammates with asking for the play clock to be reset. It is I formation behind. Smith takes the snap handoff, running over to the left side towards the numbers his barber and he gets a couple of yards out today 27 yard line and that will bring up a second down and eight and watch it came out of that formation. Two tight ends two backs in the backfield. They went to a little power football game two yards. Justin Barber will check out of the ballgame down. JD McKissick is in the backfield lined up the Smiths left receivers to the right. Single man out to the left second down and eight from the 27 McKissick promotion out. Watch the left side. Smith waits on the shotgun snap. He's got it. He's back to pass. It looks gross short left before him down to his knees, makes the catch just across the 30 and 31 yard line for a G F four. Now. Another third down, coming up, third down about four. That's all we've seen. Really? From Terry McLaurin tonight, Josh. Just these little 45 your throws. That's it. That's it, That's all. They've been throwing that sooner or later. You gotta take the shot. You got even kissing you gotta Gibson. They're getting match up to dictate linebacker. You gotta try something down the field, a good running back that could receive the football. They take shot so third and four now for Washington, three receivers, right Single man left. Kissing will bullshit out to the left side. Smith in the shotgun play clock. Three's Got the snap. Four man Rush throws. Let me kiss it. Did he make the catch? No, no incomplete. A diving attempt by Jamie Emma kissing in the 35 yard line. He could not hang on. And Washington will put it back to the Eagles. Alex, with all the quick drop head McKissick out his left white very have to put it right and felt buckled. McKissick could not come up with the throat boy again. I mean, he had it. Had pinned to his body. But is he went to the ground just couldn't hang on to wrap it up. Dress way to point Great Ward waiting inside the 20 yard line. Way standing back. It's the snap under no pressure. It's a spiraling kick. War takes a look. He's gonna make the catch it about 21 yard line running right across the 25 yard line out towards the 38 years meant right there and drop you ran right into the waiting arms. Rig Norris. It's a 48 yard punt calling an eight yard return. We will step aside with 12 35 remaining here in the city of Brotherly Love. Washington 17 Philadelphia 14. We've got flags down. Number 83 of the receiving team 10 Yard penalty from the end of the kick. Philadelphia's Bowl first down I'm not so that will go against Caleb Wilson. It'll back up 10 yards. 17.

NFL flexes Washington-Panthers to keep intrigue in Cowboys-Eagles

"Let's start with. The panthers and washington got moved to four zero five because they do not want the philadelphia eagles and the dallas cowboys to know that they've been eliminated if washington wins. They want the eagles and cowboys to still believe that. There's a chance dominated a chance during that game. So what do you got for. Washington carolina while for fantasy purposes It's well we're going to have to see who washington's quarterback is this week although rate before we got on on the podcasts. Here there was a situation involving dwayne haskins. Where their post on social media of of haskins Getting swag on at a at a strip club without a mask on look believe me. I know that there are Those are establishments where clothing is optional. but in the nfl masks are not right now. So washington is not going to be very happy about dwayne haskins. I think it was Tom pal sarab. Nfl network reporting that the team is handling that internally not happy. I'm sure. I think they want alex smith back this week. Anyway against carolina that would raise the ceiling of this offense. I'm still not one hundred percent. I as a matter of fact. I'm not confident at all antonio gibson playing this game turf toe is very painful so that should mean a big role for jd. Mckissic once again had a huge fantasy game last week against seattle. It was nice to see terri mclaren. Come alive in that game. A little bit with dwayne haskins at quarterback too good matchup against carolina. I would use him as a wide receiver. Three and over last month of the season only two tight end. Travis kelsey and darren waller have been targeted more have caught more passes and scored more fantasy points than logan thomas. He is a tight end. One now against the carolina panthers and i think everything would look better for washington if alex smith can play quarterback.

"Injuries we paying attention to the bigger buzzkill of the week on the injury or injury front here christian mccaffrey. A third injury now. with the shoulder Following up now also with a quad injury had high ankle sprain. Keep matt. He's he's not gonna play this week hopes are he will be back week. Fifteen or sixteen. But if we have. Mike davis there 'cause they'll lineup versus the panthers rb one this week antonio gibson that looking good got exactly one. Snap against the steelers on monday night before you heard a toe injury we're gonna watch his status heading towards the end of the week. He's out peyton barber on the early down work. Obviously jd mckissic. We'll get the pr action there. The pass catching back. Josh jacobs unlikely to play this week with an ankle issue. You're out devante booker. last week. It didn't work out. I'm not very optimistic about it this week. Either if out to that's a situation to avoid to straightness practices for. Aj brown the study for the titans with an ankle issue. This'll probably be around friday. I'll be looking at the most on practice tomorrow but take out. That's certainly a big blow to receivers out already for carolina. This week have christian mccaffrey. But also without dj more curtis samuel kobe. Nineteen list or both of those guys robby anderson. He's gonna get a ton of targets brandin cooks. We thought he might have had a fifth or sixth. I think it's now six concussion last week when he ended up medical tent. It looks like it's more of a neck injury foot issue. I am optimistic. He played just fuller out. Top targeting group brings one more week before we've probably take him back from that collapsed lung case. Him hill. Jalen hurts madge. Up is the two quarterbacks this week and that is going to be a very unique football game to watch analyst
