Is This Going to Backfire?
"Is this going to backfire? That is the opening question. I want to ask you, I'm hearing that for quite some time. And I think people mean well when they say that, but for the last couple of years, ever since Biden was implemented as president of the United States, I have been hearing well, Charlie, this is going to backfire. The trillions dollars of spending, this will backfire the open border. That is going to backfire. The environmental fanaticism, this is going to backfire. The rating on Mar-a-Lago, this is going to backfire. The spying on moms and dads, school boards, that's going to backfire. And I wonder, has it will it? Now, I'm not trying to be too cynical. I'm not trying to discount this too much. But I do wonder, why is it that we immediately gravitate towards that talking point? For a while we've been hearing, well, this is the year of the boomerang, things are going to come around back to normal. And I think it's very tempting to say that because you want to believe the American people are always going to course correct. And we've seen some evidence of it. We've seen lightfoot removed. We've seen the district attorney of San Francisco removed, but generally, where was the backfire against the COVID lockdowns? Who was held accountable politically for that was Gretchen Whitmer, held accountable for locking down her state, was JB pritzker, held accountable for locking down Illinois, was Gavin Newsom, held accountable. The answer is sadly, no. And that's not to say that people can never be held accountable, and there is not an equal and opposite reaction bubbling up. But what I am saying is we have to resist the talking point that just because something unjust happens, there will be a guarantee of a political backlash.

"The people at Fox news have come out with a piece today. They have now officially entered the what if Joe Biden can't make it sweepstakes. Of course, earlier in the week and late last week, we saw a different stories coming out saying that maybe JB pritzker, a Illinois might be the SOS candidate. There was a New York Times piece on that. And a lot of different media outlets have come up with different speculation as to who might be the fallback plan because most people in the bubble know that Kamala Harris is not that person. And with increasing obviousness, it's looking like Pete Buttigieg is not that person. So they're having to look outside a little bit in case all else fails in Joe Biden can't answer the bill. Fox News is entry, Michelle Obama for 2024. Yes, I'm serious. They're talking about, hey, could she would she? She could stand up a campaign pretty quick. She could raise money pretty quick. She's got name ID. She's got everything you could possibly want in a candidate if Joe Biden can't go. The only catch to it is that Michelle Obama has shown exactly zero interest at all for wanting to do a job like that. But that's what Fox News thinks is a possibility.

"I went towards where the smoke was and that was in the basement, and then when I got towards the basement and opened the door, a bunch of smoke came from the basement and so once I think that much smoke, I just ran and got my kids and got up out of there. Now Winfield 17 year old son needed to be rescued and received CPR before being taken to University of Chicago hospital and the sun's 16 year old girlfriend was also rescued and they are both recovering at the hospital now. Winfield's wife and two young daughters made it out fine. Excuse me, one firefighter got minor burns to the face, CFD officials fear the houses of the total loss and could collapse at any minute here. It's not clear what started the fire at this time. Governor JB pritzker says he feels comfortable that the no cash bail portion of the safety act will be upheld by the Illinois Supreme Court. The governor is expressing optimism that the pre trial fairness act will be allowed to be implemented, but if that doesn't happen, he says they will be back at it. We're going to continue to focus on public safety on making sure that in my view someone who's wealthier shouldn't just be able to buy their way out of jail when they've committed a violent crime when someone who is poor can't hasn't committed a violent crime and will sit in jail. So the whole purpose here is fairness. Governor pritzker says he's a confident the law is constitutional and says he expect a ruling sometime in the next few months in the meantime, the state Supreme Court has issued a stay while the matter is under review. "There's this bill that passed. It was super quiet how this went through called the safety act, one of the sponsors of the bill is a guy by the name of Justin slaughter. Oh, that's a very fitting name for the sponsor of the safety act. Justin slaughter. You can't make it up. It's like something out of an Orwell film. Yes, Mark murder is the sponsor of the safety act. And Hank homicide was the final sponsor. No, actually, his name really is Justin slaughter. I can't make this stuff up. With a black power fist, raised to the heavens. Exclaiming. That the passage of the safety act. So I want to make sure I understand this correctly. The safety accountability fairness and equity today act, otherwise known as the safety act. They try to be super cute with their naming here. Passed with the backing of the Illinois legislative black caucus. This is back in January of 2021. Beginning in January 2023, it abolishes cash bail. Now, JB pritzker signed this into law. It is state law now, and there he is. There's Justin slaughter not to be confused with Hank homicide or Mark murder. Who puts his black fist to the sky as the bill that will allow the slaughter of Illinois citizens continue. The safety act has not received the coverage it deserves. Illinois is one of the largest states in the country. Illinois has one of the largest cities in the world, let alone America, Chicago, and this is not received any sort of coverage. All kind of goes into this theme, Republicans wake up. Why are you not talking about this stuff? So now starting in January 2023. These offenses will be non detain able offenses. "Axios reports shifts in the demographics of the two party supporters, taking place before our eyes are arguably the biggest political story of our time. The big picture, Republicans are becoming more working class or as we call it the muscular class. And more multiracial. Democrats are becoming more elite and a little more white. Democrats hope for retaining power, rests on non white voters remaining a reliable part of the party's coalition. Democrats theory of the case collapses. If we didn't have the democratic and pro choice trifecta, as you know, just being a Democrat doesn't mean that you're pro choice. We saw that in the United States Senate. There is one member of the United States Senate who refused to vote in favor of a woman's right to choose. There's another who's not pro choice, but voted for the bill. And that was the courageous position to protect women's rights. But for folks who are watching, you are sitting in front of a banner that says JB pritzker dot com, clearly you are running for reelection this fall. There's a divide between you and any of your potential Republican opponents when it comes to the abortion issue. So I'm just wondering, how do you think the abortion issue will play out politically in the Republican primary, which is coming up on June 28th? It's a great question. We will see what I can tell you is that every candidate on the Republican side wants to take away a woman's right to choose. Every one of them. They've all pledged to do that. To varying degrees, they're some that want it that even believe that women should be forced to take a baby to term, even in the case of rape or incest. So it's a radical agenda that they've got on the right and I think that because of the draft opinion, you're seeing people wake up to the idea that more and more your decisions about who you're going to vote for need to include the question, is this person going to stand up for my reproductive freedom?
