As we continue here on Thursday night. Glad you're with us. Eight five to four to seven to eight five, but we had met Luke on earlier JIMBO Fisher couple of minutes ago. Really have had a a good show. A lot of conversation about we got jimbo's take on Monday night, considering he has played both Alabama. And Clemson, let's get back to the calls and Lynn is in Ohio. Hello lynne. Welcome to the program. Hey, paul. How are you today? We doing great. Thank you. Hey, really per se run joy watching a show really lot. I just wanna what you thought of the of the Ryan day higher. Do you think it was kind of a Russ or do you think it was the right thing to do for? I think it was. I think it was both. Frankly, I I think it was a it was frankly, the the best way to get rid of urban Meyer. I think that deal is done months ago. And I think urban knew what was going on and said, you know, what maybe it's a good time for me to leave. While it looks like I'm leading the parade out of town. I have no earthly idea where the Ryan, hey, Ryan day will be successful. Because I I think any any young coach is a mystery. I wondered the day that Lincoln Riley got the job he's been to college football playoffs. So sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't he has very difficult shoes to fill. I will say that. Yeah. Yeah. Now, do you think urban will cook somewhere? Again, I do now. I know what he said. But it's not it's not a matter of believing or disbelieving urban Meyer. It's a matter of having watched urban Meyer be restless before when you're as intense as he is. And he may be as intense coaches I've ever seen. How do you deal with the day after he went out on top as much as you can go out on top Rose Bowl? Win is pretty cool. He'll find this week and next in the next six or seven or eight to be satisfying because he'll do things he hasn't done in a long time. But what happens in spring? What happens in summer what happens on September first when he's not coaching. He's gone through that one time in the year. He went through it. He was miserable. I can attest to it. I saw him several times that year. Right. Right. Well, I I ate your pin in and and thanks. Thanks, roy. I think that goes for a lot of people. I mean, if suddenly I didn't do this job tomorrow. Would I miss it? Sure. I mean, this is what I do. I've done it for a long time would Nick Sabin be happy. Yeah. I'm gonna take some time off. I mean, the people are geared to do a certain thing. Now, having said that I've run into friends of mine who have retired and they look pretty happy. But they may not be put together quite like urban Meyer in Nick Sabin, really interesting conversation there, Dave is in Pennsylvania. How are you? Dave, paul. I'm great greetings from pencil cooking. Thanks for taking my call up wonderfully with the previous caller, they're like, the master radio technician that you are. First of all, I I wanna talk about the big ten poster been Meyer, but a couple of things while I've been sitting here, I still have not forgiven the Rose Bowl for nineteen ninety four that was the year that I believe the first, you know, BCS talk began because it was so clear that year that Penn State and Nebraska needed to play on the field right into big and the Rose Bowl in their stubborness would not let Penn I'm not sure who was to blame there. But that was the year that I believe every fans at add enough. It was so everyone wanted that game. And it just didn't happen. And I'm still disappointed by that. I don't care how many rose bowls. We win. I will never be a fan of the Rosebowl again. Because of that. I wanna congratulate Kentucky on a great game. You know, they, you know, I'm here. I'm listening to these Georgia fans, and there is no true true or. Cliche in all of sports that I've heard in my life in college bowl games are all about motivation there there's you can most of the cliches in sports, I just toss some toss them in the garbage faster than you can spit him out of your mouth, but bowl games are all about motivation. You see every year and almost every single bowl game and Kentucky wanted that game more. It was clear. Penn state. They tried to put it together late. You know, you can question some coaching there. Hey, by the way. One thing on that. We we were we were doing our show from the field and James Franklin came by talked to Jordan Rogers who played for him. And he he really didn't look anymore focused on on. What was about to happen that I was I was just sitting there as an observer, it was not a big deal for him. And I think that show in the first three quarters it absolutely did. And I'll tell you when the minute I knew Georgia was going to lose that game in a pre game interview. Kirby smart. The I forget who it was and sideline reporter asked him. How he knew his team was motivated. He could not even look her in the eye kief said I can just tell by looking in. There is that they're motivated as he was looking away. He knew his team was not ready for that game. And I knew before that game kicked off they had no chance in that game. I don't know how you feel but I feel like urban Meyer leaving the big ten. I I feel like the whole conference is diminished in general is a Football Conference. And I don't think I'm being overly dramatic about. That at all. I mean, who do you have? I mean, I as far as I'm concerned, you know, you've got all right. You got Harbaugh whose career trajectories Harvey is a shell of his former of his former self well, he his his whole career. He's he's the repeating bottle rocket. You know, he's very exciting to watch, you know, leads team to great heights, and all of a sudden it fizzles, and you know, went the next bottle rocket coming. There's nothing sustainable there. James Franklin would be the greatest used car salesman in the history of the world. If he took that up for a living. I do not believe the guy can coach football on his own without I've defended him for years until this year. There's a lot of Penn State fans who I cannot even talk football with their there. I really think they're football ignorant, one of the most ignorant monumentally ignorant fan bases on earth when it comes to football. But it took me a while to come around James Franklin, and I just think he's a salesman whose time has come. Some he's proven. He can't do it without coordinators around him. And hopefully, I just think next year if you're Moorhead leaving really hurt him, and I'm not your Joe Moorhead really helped himself by leaving. Well, probably him. No new job. But still he had a rough year. Yeah. But but still, you know, I think he he could see it. Why are all these great coaches leaving Penn State? They see Franklin. They know him James Franklin is exactly what you said. He is. Yeah. And you know, hopefully, you know, someone like Matt rule v around next year. You know, I just think Franklin loses to Michigan state Michigan Ohio state again. He's done. Well, that's. Field goal. I think is going to come back to haunt him. That was that was it's a bowl game come on go for it. That's true. And all the time he decided to go forward and do it. It just his decision making the fourth quarter throughout his Penn. State tenure has been questionable at best. But you know, you look at this conference, coaching wise. It's so solid in the middle. I mean, you guys like you got Kirk fair. You got I think Mark dantonio class of the coaches right now. All right now. There. Those are not elite coaches by by brand name, but they are very good right impact FitzGerald, you know, these guys are top. He's a phenomenal coach. I just feel like this is a diminished conference without urban Meyer. It hurt it hurt. Well, urban Meyer was was the second best coach in the country on the day. He left. That's that's you. Can't you can't ignore that? Hey, thank you very much for the call Kathy is up next in Florida. Hello, kathy. Carrow how there I just don't want to say happy new year. And I just wanted to actually think you for ticking pitcher me you get the Orange Bowl there Saturday. Oh, wow. Well, we certainly appreciate. Oh, I remember that now. Well, thanks so much for saying Hello, and no problem, and I just wanna say. Thanks for taking my call. We'll thank you. Great to meet you Kathy in Florida. We are up against a break here. We'll find out what's going on in big orange country. They've they're conducting a coaching search for an offensive coordinator that is maybe going on a little bit longer than people predicted. We'll talk about that. When we come back. Jayson Swain Swain event. Welcome back to the program. Here thirsty night has arrived in. In a good show with Matt Luke and JIMBO Fisher. What about Tennessee? Jeremy Pruitt on the prowl for a new this been going on a while maybe longer than a while. It's a Jayson Swain who is the radius. Brought to you by a Holiday Inn express, the former great player there. Now talk show host Jason happy new year. Thanks for being on before we get to the offense coordinator position. Just give us your take on. We talked to you in Knoxville, but let's get to take after the season on Jeremy Pruitt's first year. Well, there was a big with Kentucky Auburn it. And I think he put opportunity to join this evening. You know, you looking Kentucky and how they finished with their bowl win over Penn State. You look at Auburn how they finished their bowl win to great winds. But there were some really ugly losses. That's all Tennessee, not finish the season. Like, they should have into blowout ales to Vanderbilt and to Missouri. But you look at the recruiting and release good Tennessee is science and really good players. And now he's trying to find office coordinator. But I thought Pruitt did a really good job at other times. He showed that he was the first shakeup. Yeah. I mean, it's become kind of Twitter joke about how long this. The search is going on. Why is it taking so long or and maybe there's a specific reason? I don't know you tell us. Well, I think the first thing that Tennessee is trying to replace types of Helton with a coordinator who coaches coaches quarterbacks and you look around the country, and certainly my my experience when I was on Tennessee team, David mid-2000s, you know, coast cut those brought in Matt Lucas brought in from ole miss, and then, you know, coach coast Kurt Roper was brought him as well. And those two guys that came along with coach cut to help teach us his new office. Look at look now rich raw those those who ole miss mayor Zona, and he brings the one with you in Durham Pruitt has to higher office coordinator. And then maybe the only guy he brings in if there's no other staff changes. So you know, I look at that. I think coach former being their AD knows and understands how important it is to make the right hire. He goes out and hires day in two thousand eight the offense was a mess. And then coach former is let go so they're being very careful, and I know for Tennessee saying we think about a coaching search. I mean, you get nightmares triggered. I mean, it's it's tough. Because of what happened last year with the coaches search and then switching AD's in the middle of that coaches search, but it has done affect recruiting. And I think during Pruitt his gathering information from people that he's talking to. I think he's taking time. I definitely know he understands how important is this higher maybe tied to the success. Well, what an exactly who are who is in the running here. Well, the last person been Tennessee's talk to is Matt candidate he's on campus yesterday. And when you look at what he's done, and you know, Nathan Peterman. I love may compete him. And he's a good good. Good young man, but he's mechanism one person out to have success with may compete them. You look at what he's been able to do an ANSI stay Pittsburgh. I mean, he's a great offense coordinator. And so that's a really really good move because you can bring him in and he can Costa quarterbacks, and you don't have to move in Oviedo, staff members Preuss helps a lot of folks, you know, he's talked a lot of folks, I think he's gonna continue to talk to to more NFL regular seasons concluded and you look at connections to Pruitt. I mean, I think I think talking to see stark Asia will very very very smart for German Pruitt. I'm a big Lang Kippen play call fan, and you look at these Sarkissian and they were buying me. A lot of each other. I know Jalen hurts said some of the same things a couple of years ago when stark Asian bears, Alabama. So Pruitt has some some really good options. But he's he's only taking the time Paul and. It's become it's become really really funny thing we were working on about six weeks. Now, if you had to guess and shark became available the other day, let go by land. And by the way, before people talk about what did in Atlanta. He was wasn't he p carols offensive coordinator, absolutely him in length and staff together. So they had a lot success. Yeah. I mean, he he was I think he moved on before kiffin. Now, he went to Washington, and then kiffin moved up and then got the job. So he had he has very much a big reputation his one game at Alabama didn't go well and his tenure in Atlanta. Didn't exactly light anybody up. But that doesn't mean he can't be a good coordinator. Now, I think he can't be I think Pruitt what he needs is as the head coach the offense. So that way he can you know, he can manage a be a head coach if he wants to be able in Babbel be defense coordinator. Absolutely. He could do that Pruitt from the old school hostel cokes that coast every position on the football field. And if he could I think Pruitt tried to do that. But you just can't do that at this level. And so I just think Pruitt needs to hire guy trust the head coach with offense something like David Cutlip back when coach former had him when we didn't have to worry about the offense because coach could have that taken care of the head coach with the often, I think Pruitt needs to get that same. I also want to mention that you know, has a really great offense of mine on the staff right now, Joe OSA vet who came from Jupiter ranks it just does. Doesn't make a lot of sense that we will approaching six weeks of the coaching search, and if you were to make that move to make it now. But I mean, I think honestly, I think proves gathering information interviewing many people as possible and taking time he certainly not in a rush like Miami. As then even though I think mine and made the right the right Har two different position. How would you say recruiting when and has it set up for February? Considering the season. I mean, you look at a guy like of ours Coutts who during the recruiting process really monitoring the progress can if you feel ball team the hats who wins, but they had to the loss of the end of the season they close out on him. And he signed you get Eric gray who flute from Michigan to Tennessee. I thought Tennessee that religious job it's tough because kids wanna they wanna win. They wanna see you win. But then if you're Tennissee you need them, so you can win more. So it's difficult because he's gonna have to win some of those tough game. The South Carolina game was really tough because that was a that was a win that was right there in your fingertip. So Tennessee's have to win some of those tough games to get those kids attention at wants to see Tennessee win a little bit more for the Mecom. But I thought Tennessee did a really good job considering the circumstances and not being able to a bowl game. Tennessee's in a good position to close to. When you're down for Jeremy Pruitt, I would say this program, you tell me certainly feels like it's got momentum. Even though the record may not support that it's a different feeling that it hasn't over the last couple of years, correct? Correct. I mean, you haven't football coast that that that know football that's gonna shoot you're straight. We saw that throughout the season. We did not finish the way we wanted to finish. There's no doubt about that. This is not going to be overnight Bill, and it's tough to hear because you know, our fan base has been they've been so patient. They've been so supportive over the last couple of years. But that's just kind of where we are going to take a year or two in is really easy to kind of look over at your neighbor's yard look at Georgia. And look at the transition from Mark the smart, and then you snap your finger in there competing for championship. But you look at Florida, and then you know, deputy finger and Dan Mullen has won eleven games beating Michigan on on ballgame. You know, we're not in that same position as everyone else checks, but you both Fisher, you know, this is going to be a little bit of slower build, but since he has all the resources to be successful. They have in-state talent. I think you can look around the country. And it's hard to say this, but you can look around the country doing the bowl season. And look at a lot of players plant other teams that were from the state of Tennessee prove just has to do really good job of keeping those players inside the Tennissee. But I do think there's some positive momentum going forward Jason before you go back to the situation. And and you know, he he's won a national championship twenty years ago as a quarterback and his name has been linked to that position. So often t Martin what's the read on him. That's the best. I mean, that's an interesting question. I mean for me, I grew up as a as a tea- Martin fan from Alabama. And you know, when I think about all the really good players who are now coaching. I mean, that's what I want. I want all the in coaches here, Tennessee, helping tendency get back does this Pruitt won't him to beat off its coordinator teat out of his own offense and his looming come back or is he willing to come back and be a you quarterbacks coast receivers coast running backs coach if there's an opening and then kinda worked up mayor. I just don't really know what what he wants to do. He's in a great position. I mean, he had two years left was going to get paid. He has options out here. ACC? He can he can go and ask you see if he wants to tease a heck of a coat heck of cruder heck of a heck of a guy. I just don't know what he wants from from Tennessee. But it sure would be a fairytale story for me if he were to return. At the Tennessee and Hilton to get back on top. Yeah. It seems it seems like it makes a lot of sense. But then again, I'm not running the program. Jeremy Pruitt is Jason great. Have you on thanks for being with us. Thank you. Always great Jayson Swain. All we've had a really good show with Matt Luke. And of course, JIMBO Fisher time for you to give us a ring if eight five five to four to seven to eight five we're coming right back your calls the rest of the way. Glad you're with us, and Shannon is in Wyoming. Hello, Shannon, April. How you doing? We're doing great. Thanks a lot. Good talking to you again, first of all roll tide. And the sex thing is I want to talk to you about Jim Harbaugh anytime. Okay. I have looked for an image. That would just sort of show people what this Michigan. Jim Harbaugh experiences. All I can I'm gonna give you an image. And I think you can identify with it have you ever been in line paying for something. And there's a customer in front of you. And the cashier looks at the customer says, sir, I'm sorry. But your card has been declined. And the customer says try to gin and the cashier goes will spend declined he's goes tried again. Will. She goes. Okay. It's been declined again. And this keeps happening and all of a sudden, it's becoming very embarrassing. So I'm gonna say do you ever live in law, the agony of this? I've been there. Well, you know, what I'm saying is like that customers prolonging the agony. Yeah, they need to. And then they usually say, Shannon. I just used it at target. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. Just be sitting. And that's what Jim Harbaugh in the Michigan. See the customer is Michigan. Yeah. And their fan base. The card is Jim Harbaugh. And c credit deals with trust. They trust that you're gonna be at a pay. What you say you can do in the future and see four years ago. Michigan hired that card, and he promised him that he would pay it off the problem is he just can't do it anymore. There's a lack of trust a lack of credibility. And in growing up. That's really a problem. Yeah. And that's what I mean to me. That's what the Jim Harbaugh experiences. Like, it's like a customer who's credit is just gone, it it just he's never going to get to pay for it. And it's going to keep getting declined. And you know to me this next year when Michigan plays Ohio State, and they lose again, I think that's where you're going to see a total change. Yeah. I was surprised how how he was able to get away with that. Loss to Ohio State coupled with them. But but I think Michigan fans right now are just so. Immune to anything. They're they're so beaten down. They don't want to admit that they have the wrong coach, but they do, and that's what I'm talking about the customer the customer yelled. There's not a bad guy. They just can't get with the fact that. It's never going to happen. You know, and and that car is done within for me Jim Harbaugh. Probably should stay in fail. Well, he would have been fired by now anyway, but he would he would. But he would he would. He would have guy but getting fired and the NFL all that means is you'll get a job the next day. Well. Well, that's true. But you know, I called you. When this first happened with Jim. And I said, you know, this thing could become a nominee, and almost you remember that conversation. But I think that's exactly what's happening. Now is this is becoming a nightmare. Nightmare at the big house. Hey, thanks for the call. I man no nightmare there. No, no, no nightmare here. You know follows been another great football season where we got just one more game is. Yeah. One more game. If you it seems like they used to be another little small bowl that was after the the playoff ten appear before the championship. But I can't remember, and you know, what you'd have to either. That is true. Yeah. How about that had on my on the best? You know, Paul. Why us off? I mean, you know, everybody's been talking football and everything. But why y'all we're off y'all y'all played the greatest hits of fun bump show, and that was pretty good over the over the holidays, and you know, what one of the greatest tits of the phone bomb show was Jim in his conversation about squirrel and it played every two hours on the hour. It was amazing. And it's you know, I'm surprised it went under the radar, but it. Couldn't have been a better phone call from Jim on his timing and y'all's efforts to make sure the great calls were put on there. There was squirrelled in his gym than there was made. And you know, what you're still taking my call. And you know, why? Because I'm my manager. Jim is not just what award immigrant. We are getting faster. You have a great new year. Frank is in Atlanta. Hello of Frank. Good evening that even if the finebaum having yourself. Happy new year, sir. Yes, sir. I wanted to a few calls though, you made the statement that Alabama hasn't played their best game. And I have two regions. Why they well. They they have yet to play their best game. And I have a few reason why I think that that statement is true. And I want you to tell me yours, and I'll go first. Okay. Go ahead. Okay. Like look back. Look back at the old bowl. India? The offense had a few miscues and apparently Buback and I Smith touchdown and. If you look on the defense. I thought it was a pretty good move to go after the two freshman, and what D lamb so you lamb is a great rival, Steve it'd be planning AFL probably next year. But I like I like secondary. But. In that game. At the end of the first half, Alabama score. They three three penalties in a series of miscues that would put the game at thirty five to ten and it was over. But they just. I mean it had such an explosion getting up twenty eight nothing they they let up a little bit and Oklahoma is the most explosive team in the country. So I didn't feel like they played their game. But they know what they have to do. They're playing the best team. They'll have seen all year. I mean, they're they're, you know, they're not exactly playing shop liver the last couple of games, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Clemson, and that that will also make you look less than spectacular. It's not like they're playing the citadel. Well, take it back from citadel gave them a good game. Let's go to out in Memphis. Hello, al. Hey, Paul good talk to you. Happy new year to you. Thank you. I just want to talk about the LSU UCF game and almost loss. Yeah. I don't blame the coaching staff. Coaching staff. Did a marvelous job with all all the starters. And everybody else hurt. The only problem is the players are turned into a bunch of thugs, and you you can't have stupid penalties. Like they did in the last quarter in the last three minutes, and it almost cost him the ball game. You agree. Yeah. Listen, I I know I was impressed with UCF another. It's not a popular thing to say. But I would like to know what UCF would have done against LSU McKenzie Milton at quarterback. Yeah. I I agree with that. You know that? And the only thing is is he's good. But you know, I think our our defense could stack up against him. It's just the other problems that we have with the lack of discipline on that team. And and that's kind of hurting us so Paul I'll let you go and you have a great new year. And we'll talk some more upcoming come, okay. Yeah. The problem problems. In that game. Isn't there were so many players missing from both sides? It was hard to get a really good indication. But but anyway, I it it it went away should have gone. Let's check out Tucker in Athens, Georgia Tucker. Good evening. Paul hundred women talked about George's pretty poor performance in the should obey show. Is that is that them being overrated or really underprepared? No. I was only Georgia's overrated the team. I saw it in the George in the Emerson he's Benz stadium a month ago was as good as any team. I've seen all year. I think a couple of players being out lack of motivation. You know, and I'm not blaming Kirby. Smart. I mean, ultimately the head coach I think he knew he had a problem. He tried to work within the system. It just didn't work. Year in our agree. It couldn't agree with you more. I can text us my mum saying on a good team. But j phone got there and drink from to miss all this up and guys you think Chris gonna things. Well, you know, that's maybe on us about game. But if you follow George football, you really know that he plays best when the one game. And if you told me Georgia was going to give up twenty eight points in Texas. I'd be pretty happy that with all the guys that you had yonder bigger. John Walker coming guys I'm dealing but for offense to not do anything for. I mean, even twenty one was super late nights. What were they were just so sloppy? I I don't know. I wasn't around the program going into the game. And you know, what everyone said afterwards Texas seem games like that take on a life of their own. And I don't I don't think Georgia when is the game, not caring. But I just think you know, you could. Sense early on that they weren't all there in in Texas was and don't underestimate Tom Herman. We tend tend to forget about him. He was the hottest coach in the country three years ago for reason quick break. And then we will put a bow on this Thursday program, which has been a really good one with JIMBO Fisher and met, Luke. We will be we'll be hearing Mara. We'll be your everyday from now on. But of course, Monday live from Santa Clara. Welcome back. Jeremy is in North Carolina. As we begin to wind things down here on a Thursday night. Hello, jeremy. Hey, I'm Bob. Good evening to you, sir. Thank you very much. I was just wanting to tell you about the Georgia in Texas game. I mean, they say that they were motivated hosted. But like he was running hard. And for all the tweets that they send out during the game. They should have showed up and wanted to play hard improved to committee wrong because champion show up the play whatever games playing. You are correct. And thank you very much for making. That point Morgan is in Birmingham. Eight thousand big hound leave everybody as I looked that keeps you X pale Chen. I just wanted to ask him. How many Notre Dame games? He watched this year. All of them except for Saturdays. Yeah. Like Georgia should have been in there stuff another day. I was just wondering what Bill Hancock had to say about how long they they. They put no time back in there. Real quick how how many games Georgia lose this year? Who did they play? Well, they they played LSU and lost by twenty right? The play Texas. Got raced in the sugarbowl, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then they blew it. We need again. Did they not play the best team in the country and have a chance to win the game a chance to make the playoffs before blowing it? Man. I'm in Alabama fan. I'm just telling you there. I'm just giving you facts, you're giving me hyperbole. No, no, no, no, Joey Notre Dame's been in the playoff. They've blown it by your everytime Morgan let me jump in. I think Notre Dame did deserve to be in there. Because you have to judge it on what you see not. You can't go back and be a revision history. Like everybody else in the media right now. Bruce in Arizona, Bruce, go right ahead. Yeah. I just have a question as to whether we think that the NFL as a whole has a little bit of responsibility with the way this players not playing in the bowl games anymore. Well, yeah. I mean alternately that's players wanna go. But what what is there? Coupla -bility, though is my question. Well, I just don't know that they don't have more responsibility to the college football team because that's where they're getting all of their players, but what is their responsibility. I mean, what what what what are they supposed to do? So you have to play in a bowl game before we'll draft you? Well, maybe it has to be a situation where the bowl committee's that set him up wanna know who's playing and who's not playing and if they don't have another. Here's the problem, Bruce, you're inviting schools, you're not inviting players, it's a it's a team sport. And I think that's the fly in the ornament. Thanks for the call though. Do appreciate it. Rickie is in South Carolina. Hillary. Hey, how you doing? I'm sitting around here playing a little fortnight with my boys. And always wondering, I know a friend who knows a friend.
