"S men's basketball team in Tokyo after collapsing in the second half against France and a collection of current and former Celtics 7 48 Gorshin Yeah. Bahceli and Vincent Poirier first defeat on the hardwood for the American men since 2000 and four sees all star Jayson Tatum landed on the other side against some familiar stateside teammates with just nine points off the bench for USA. Was asked recently, though, what he's learned going through the process of being a first time Olympian. I've learned to not take things for granted. I think in the climate of, you know, the last year and a half, just realizing then, uh, everything is, I guess not promise, and you never know what could or couldn't happen. So just stand in the moment and really enjoying, Um this journey was processed, you know, being 23 been in the Olympics, and it is an honor. This is really a dream come true. The Americans will next play Wednesday against Iran. A gold medal is still possible, but it will be an uphill climb. Adam Kaufman, WBC Boston's news.

"Court and beyond. And Nigeria is upset the United States in an exhibition game 90 87 pre Tokyo U. S losses to Nigeria and Australia, where the warning shots This was not going to be like 1992 and the dream Team or 2012. When the U. S beat Nigeria by 83 points at the London Olympics, Gregg Popovich is the U. S head coach the gap in talent Shrinks every year as there are more and more great players all over the world. And after France confirmed that reality, Popovich bristled when a reporter still suggested last night's American loss was a surprise. I think that's a little bit of hubris. If you think the Americans are supposed to just roll out the ball and wind we've got to work for it just like everybody else. And for those 40 minutes, they played better than we did not early as the US took an eight point lead in the halftime Even when France surged in the second half the U. S had several comfortable leads but couldn't hold them. Here's forward Draymond Green. We have to defend better down the stretch and close the games out. They also have to play better on offense. The team is led by superlative scorers like Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard, Yet they were largely ineffective. Lillard, a deadly outside shooter, passed up open shot several times. It's Popovich's challenge to turn his team into a cohesive sharing group. But also allow for the Alpha stars to be just that, as Lillard said after the game quote, we were trying too hard to do the right thing. Instead of just being who we are the best players in the NBA still to be determined. Will they be the best at the Olympics? Tom Goldman..

"Scrub team at all that Evan Fournier is good player, the Celtics Nicolas Batum ready go bare. They actually knocked out the USA in the Fi book, World Cup champ definitely got great players. No disrespect of friends ago for Evan Fournier from France led all scores. I'm just saying, Here's where this ranks, though an all time bad for the United States. For Team USA. No starter had more than 12. And that was Bam out of bio, Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard combined for 7 to 22 Dream on. Look, Man I love Day day He had a triple single one of those things. Charles Barkley is always talking about Triple single 12 points. Devin Booker off the bench goes one for six. Jayson Tatum three for nine. The whole thing just disjointed if that lost three of their last 45 of their last eight, even though there's three or 43 of those were scrimmages. This is.

"Had a lead kept the lead. Never really let the bucks get in it, so they won the first two games handily. Milwaukee wins game number three handily even more so a bigger blowout than either of the two games in Phoenix. We had to get the Game four before we had a game that hung in the balance to the last minute regulation play and then certainly games 45 and six were all really outstanding. So overall, I would say it was a great NBA final. Then you compare that to yesterday, and Team USA just couldn't make a shot in the fourth quarter. Open threes uncontested shots just clanking one after the other after the other a 16 to run by France to end the game gets them to win. Eric Fournier, who's a nice NBA player. He's a solid NBA contributor. We're talking about superstars on Team USA, Right? Kevin Durant, right, coming in to try and save their bacon drew holiday who, if it weren't for Yannis and he was, I'm not questioning honest M v p status because he is the unquestioned VP of the finals. But if you had to go to his secondary guy, it certainly would have been either throughout the day or Middleton and I thought it was true. And yesterday it looked like Drew Drew just picked up where he left off from the NBA final and basically kept Team USA in that game in the fourth quarter, when nobody else was doing anything. Sloppy play, Miss Shot. Zach Lavine Dame Lillard, who has been a major topic of conversation because the rampant speculation that he wants out of Portland and will he actually get trade. Well, he didn't help his trade value. Now I'm doing that somewhat tongue in cheek. I don't think dames lame game yesterday really means that Portland is going to have to settle for less. If they decide it's best for him to be moved, But He didn't play well. Jayson Tatum didn't play well. Devin Booker, Justin Drew holiday. It looks like he picked up right where he left off. Devin Booker looked like a guy who had just been worn down by the NBA final because he couldn't buy a shot yesterday. U S A loses Game one I'm not counting them out. I'm not telling you that they can't turn this around. But it gets, uh, significantly more difficult to get a gold medal. If you lose your opening game, they basically have to go undefeated from here on out, which they're certainly capable of doing. But damn, that was pretty damn disappointing because even today at my advanced age in my fifties, Yeah, I still care about basketball more than any other Olympic sport because it was the one That I dreamed a dream about way back when that someday I could make an Olympic roster didn't happen. I got over it. I got into sports broadcasting I'm doing okay. Thank you. If you're feeling badly for me, you can just go ahead and stop that. I'm perfectly applied. But I do care about the Olympics and I have been watching. And the US as a country is doing okay. But the dream team came up woefully short, which surprised me and bothered me. So I want to start talking with the Olympics today. Oh, it is a show of countdowns. We are counting down to the majority of the rest of the teams in the National Football League opening their camps, the Cowboys and the Steelers got to jump on everybody because they're playing in the Hall of Fame game and opened last week. The Texans opened their camp yesterday. All players had to report but they're not actually going to practice to Wednesday. So don't ask me what the Texans are doing today and tomorrow, but the Shawn Watson showed up to the Texans camp and signed in. And the NFL had no statement. The non statement is a pretty big statement into its own right. So yes, we're going to get some NFL conversation and NBA countdown to the draft, which is coming up on Thursday will certainly get plenty of that in and the countdown to the Major League Baseball trading deadline, which is Friday at four o'clock eastern. Had a pretty big trade yesterday. San Diego Padres tip of the cap to them if you're Padre fan out there, and you're listening to me, Jerry McDonald here on writer than you. You cannot complain that the Padres have not gone for two here. We use this phrase, probably overuse it all to together too much all in push you all your chips into the middle of the table old. The Padres are all in for this year. They certainly are and picking up Adam Frazier yesterday just shows their commitment to try and get a Championship run done that here. So you got me Jodie Mack here for Bill writer on this Monday Yet together on CBS Sports radio again. I know Billy doesn't take a lot of calls. I like to hear from you guys. And I will share with you some of the cause I got yesterday here on CBS Sports Radio surprised me. I did not see this coming about this one. Watson and his situation in Houston. And whether he can or can't be traded or should or shouldn't be traded and how the NFL is handling it. There was sentiment out there from my listening audience. That I just didn't see coming. I'll explain that when we come back again, Phones open eight by 5 to 1 to 4 to 27 Johnny Mac for Bill writer on this Monday, Get together here on CBS Sports Radio. Jay Farner here, CEO of Rocket mortgage.

Kawhi Leonard Has Surgery to Repair Partial Tear of Right ACL
"Crazy breaking news. Kawhi Leonard had surgery for a partially torn ACL in a lot. That's not good explains a lot. Yeah never heard. I had never heard of an ACL injury that you know, didn't require surgery or wasn't some level of at are they're so hyper extent, hyper-extended knee injuries, and things like that. But the way they described that the ACL injury, I mean, I saw another kind of stuff that they were trying to play their, you know, you always have. I don't know what they're sending out mixed signals on injuries, especially in the playoff series. You know, is a guy going to play tonight. Is he not dead teams? Do that a lot, but it was always weird to me that an ACL injury was played, in a way that he could have possibly returned, cuz now surgery is going to knock him out at least. For part of next season and there's a guy that can become a free agent opting out this year. So you might have the Clippers in a situation here where they kind have to do that Katie thing and eat part of that first year just to keep them long time. And this is tougher guy who already was starting to deteriorate a little bit and it's lower. Body had to take a lot of load management days since 2017 with that injury against ZaZa. And, you know, was always kind of a guy that was dealing with something in terms of body. So this isn't going to help.
Nigeria Wins Historic Upset Over Team U.S.A. In Olympic Exhibition
"Men's Olympic basketball is up to eat. Well, um, it didn't start off well over the weekend, they had their first exhibition game against Nigeria in they lost What? 92 87. Team USA goes down, So we got that going for us. Wait a minute. Isn't Kevin Durant on that team? The guy that carry the Brooklyn Nets on his back. Of course. Kevin Durant. Bradley Beal Bam out of bio. Draymond Green Game. Dollar is on their Jayson Tatum. They've got a pretty good lineup. So they lost to Nigeria. Wait a minute. There's some Nigerian players who are actually NBA players. Right there are and there are a few NBA players missing from that team that are still playing in the finals. No Djourou HOLIDAY. No Chris Middleton know Devin Booker. But the Nigerian squad does have three guys from the Miami Heat roster. Also one of the Sacramento Kings, a guy for the Minnesota Timberwolves and one of Donovan Mitchell's teammates with the Utah Jazz. Good for them. Congratulations, Nigeria. I think they taught a valuable lesson to our Guys on USA team that always thinks it's going to just steamroll everybody. I hope so. Because the last time the U. S, the U. S men's national team lost an exhibition game. They finished seventh in the feeble World Cup just a couple of years ago, so Hopefully they right the ship and we don't have one of those performances in the Olympics.
"jayson" Discussed on Winning Plays
"The Long offseason continues to the Boston Celtics, the the organization be robbed. I think is spread out all over the place right now. We get what Jayson Tatum? He may, who do, I believe Brad Stevens in Vegas? Oh, this week with the crew, including plays exclusive, I think, have you, have you heard that? I have not heard that, but that makes sense. Like cuz it would dhoka is not technically an assistant coach. If you look at the the roster and the list of coaches only three assistant coaches and I assume there's like fifteen or Twenty assistant coaches there. So I was surprised by that as well cuz I didn't think that he may shun was on the the coaching staff this year, either. Maybe maybe isn't a brad Stevens. Is there with with the head coach? And the most important player Jayson, Tatum think what Jalen Jalen was was filming wage. For Jimmy Kimmel. I think. Yes, he was out in L believe recently. And yeah, so it will be. So is do we think Brad like do you think Brad's just dared to tell that may be in pop or close to? But I imagine there's a lot of unnamed coaches that are are, obviously. Now executives are in the building there, helping out, which is behind the scenes and tears, especially with the select team there as well. It probably would not heard on a few different levels for Brad Stevens to be. There does doesn't hurt the. The.

"To me is not something that the media should have a saying, well we know it's the store. But by The Faculty John made it. Are you kidding me? LeBron James is on second Team. All NBA After playing about half the season at that blew my mind and I expected it. But still when it comes out and I see it in the screen here, I'm still, like, what is this? I mean, he did not have a nice season that you're going to look back on and be like, remember, what? Bronze 20-21, he's going to get, I know. And that's, that's the issue. You mentioned there. Jimmy media members are beholding to him, know, give me a break, man. This guy. This guy rolls out of bed and he's twenty-five. 8 and 8. We're just bored by it. Like, give me a break. If Jace is Jayson, Tatum was twenty-five, ate and ate and missed the All-Star team missed. And, and if Tatum had LeBron stats and missed the team, we'd lose our freaking Minds. Yes. At some point you have to play Tournament of the season. I understand. Like this is really off the only incentive we have left for guys to play in the regular season. Clearly has a proven track record of making everyone around him, better in his life, and we're home. Give it to a guy who scores, like, honestly, like I said, is Jayson Tatum to me is Zach, LaVine in this, in this, in this scenario, like, you can't get mad over the LeBrons, and the Jimmy Butler's. And these guys who are literally wage, they, they win for you and just look at Stats and be like, Tatum's they're good. They were the 7th seat and they went on doesn't matter of 7 seed, because the installers games. How you say, oh, a great achievement here. There's like to be MVP. This is exactly why media members, shouldn't everyone votes aren't completely different spectrums and reasons and at the end of the day, you're right, you're right. Can you anyways rotating to make one of those teams? Absolutely. Can you make a case for the money? Absolutely. So why is one guy missing out on Thirty over thirty million dollars? Because you know a couple of Voters think that LeBron should just get him because he's LeBron like that. To me is just crazy the end of the day, if there was no money involved here. Oh, it's too bad. Like I notate amidst out. Yeah, yeah. Well it's there's there's been they've had it. I guess, you know, there's been some sort of saying it for years now, but now more than ever it feels like it's really rearing its ugly head in terms of you know the fact that even like so he had he had more votes than like hiring for example but just in the wrong position. So I mean could you make the case that he was one of the top 15 best team in the NBA is here? Absolutely. But because now it's a position thing. So if he if he played shooting guard more this year now he's thirty-three million dollars richer. I love heart triggered, I love how triggered. The Tatum stands are is near Tatum Tatum was a marginal pick for this team. It's not a snub, not only did he not make it? He could have absolutely made it. He could have. Absolutely..

"The hot air with celtics star. Jayson tatum the all star all nba four. Jason how are you. I'm doing great. It saw i imagine. Jason you are feeling would when you sign up to be a franchise player in the nba. You sign up for the good the bad and now with jaylen brown who had his surgery today. You know you just watching the cavs the other night in watching teams they are loading up on you. Now you know your teams at five hundred. You're in headed for that. Play in game at seven play tournament. What is it like jason. Just now to there is a lot on your shoulders. I guess this this is what it means to be a franchise guy and say. Hey like i've got to carry a big load here. A this is is really my first year dealing with this coming off last season you know signing my extension Of you know kind of being a guy and you know coming into this season Known it was going to be unique and a lot of different ways You know we were affected as well as other teams with cova de and you know the injury bug So it's been a very unique year up and down And like you said this is kind of what you sign up for Being in his position It's tough But i think it's just part of part of my growth at all the special ones kind of go through this at some point in their career of just trying to figure it out. I wondered. I think this is true. All around the league jason at wonder if people teams organizations if there might be too much overreaction to the results this year meaning you were in the conference finals. Last year you had shortened offseason others than you've seen injuries everything from the injuries to covid and listen. This team hasn't played hasn't met the expectations. I think any of you had. There's reasons you can come excuses. Whatever but you wonder if this season was so unique that even like in boston in incision you guys have to make going forward. That like maybe. We shouldn't take too much from this and overreact. Given these are circumstances that are just unlike anything we we've seen an an things. Might things might go back to form a little bit more next year. Yeah i think it's twofold because obviously we're not the we're not the only team That was in a bubble ass year that dealt with cove it or injuries and things like that Everyone signed up for this season and everyone knew what they were or kind of you know they were signing up for You know some teams are doing what people expected in teams like ourselves. I mean i'm sure there are other teams. That haven't quite met everyone's expectations or even their own expectations throughout the season And i think there's just a lot the factors into that You know especially with the extremely short off season on at a couple of teams had coming from the bubble that went deep into the playoffs in a quick turnaround And you can't really underestimate different guys reactions to Testing positive in how it affects them returning So yeah i mean i is to say you don't put too much into the season But at the same time there are teams. That are you know doing what they sought out to do. But you know we're still destroy. Figure it out jason. You mentioned co bit and guys who have had to deal with it. You have three weeks. In the month of january were out and then the after effects of lingered you talked about the impact. It's had on your body as we sit here in the middle of may once after you return to play. Do you still feel the effects. You still wake up and go. My body might breathing. It reminds me every day that i had cove it. And i'm still recovering from it. Yeah you know people still ask me to this day and At the answer. I gave all the time is I feel so much better than i guess. The first game. I came back and play from having it I do. I can't tell a notice that my breathing is much better than it was then tell. People that is is is hard to explain. It's hard to pinpoint. But i don't necessarily feel or breathe the same that idea. I had Like i know there is a difference in how you know. My breathing is before. I had You know the virus till now and not to say. I know that you know i go out there and still play an performed You know but i just. I do tell people that i i. It's hard explain. But i just i feel different. You just breathe a little different than now them. When i had the before the virus. Jason when you initially were dealing with that on the floor and you would come back to play. Was it frightening to us or party as you're playing you're also having to think about and go what's happening to my body yet. It was frightening at first. It also was frustrating. You know trying to come back. Play just filling restricted When you're you out of breath or you know short winded It was hard to be played extremely high level. Like i know. I got no. I can't.
McCollum powers Trail Blazers past Celtics 129-119

Tatum's 60 Points Take the Celtics to Victory
"You know, Jason Tatum scored 60 points look world and we, you know, we go back to those days. Um, that's the year before I started watching. So I'm old and I, I really didn't watch the five season, that was really, first of all, the the game wasn't on that much, but I was off seven and I really. It hadn't really hit for me. It did the next year. So I've always seen that game, you know, with highlights or whatever. But that was a game, the Celtics were way ahead. They were, you know, they had that game. This was every single point that Jayson Tatum score was critical to winning that game. I mean, and it was, it was efficient, it wasn't like, I'm just going for it. It was. So it was all on the flow of how the game was going on. It really wasn't forced in any way. It was him going to the basket along, not gaining the free throw line, just taking control. And and you know, the other thing I want to say about that is he was taking control from the start. He was not found though that scene was horrendous with a capital age for the first 2 and 1/2 quarters of the game, he was doing everything he could. I thought both ends of the court to try to not be in that in that spot. It just took a long time ago. He led by example, of energy side of things too. Yeah, oh doubt absolutely out
Celtics Rally From 32-Point Deficit, Top Spurs 143-140 in OT

Oklahoma City Thunder Embarrass Boston Celtics
"Special guest tonight, tonight is Jeff Goodman. And before we get to his latest zesti, take on Joe Brown which we will a little bit later in the show. We just want to welcome him to the Garden report. Post game show and Jeff will give you first bite at the Apple. It's I don't know how many times we're going to say worst loss ever because it feels like we've said it a lot. It's hard to not bother. It's hard to not tell this the worst loss ever. This is so this Jeff they work. They were atrocious and embarrassment but I don't listen, I don't care that Jayson. Tatum and Kemba Walker didn't play. I do care because I think Jason should have been out there. I don't know how bad the injury is, or whatever, is dealing with public. And it came like this, you gotta be out there. This is what 11/12 games left in the regular season. You needed this win, you could ill afford a loss like this, but even without Tatum and Kemba last name. They were without shade gilgeous-alexander, and they stink, they absolutely stink. They're trying to tank they've got a garbage team other than Lou door and you lost. You had supposedly Dead one of the top 25 players in the NBA in jail and Brad. I thought, Oh, supposedly. And it starts now, you mean using all subjects, you mean you're not lose. That's the supposedly Factor know. It's, it's true. Jeff look. I think they rolled the dice on Tatum thinking we could get away with tonight and still squash out the window. And so we needed to give him a day off. Let's pick the game and they pick this one on the back to back on the front, end of a back-to-back, and it burned him obviously. And I don't think he's, I don't think he's hurt but I mean, I get it doesn't matter. Like I watched this whole game, I've not watched to Oklahoma City games this year, I still can't name a player on their team
Nets back atop East after beating Celtics 109-104
"Joe Harris scored twenty points in the nets moved a half game ahead of the seventy Sixers for the Eastern Conference lead by downing the Celtics one oh nine one oh four Irving just missed a triple double despite missing fifteen of his nineteen shots finishing with fifteen points eleven assists and nine rebounds Boston cut Brooklyn seventeen point lead to ninety eight ninety five with about three and a half minutes left but Harris answered with a three pointer and Irving passed ahead to Jeff green for a dunk to quickly pushed the lead back to eight Jayson Tatum at thirty eight points for the Celtics who were swept by the nets in the season series for the first time I'm Dave Ferrie
Tatum Scores a Triple-Double Against the Bulls
"This was a game for all the Campbell haters because when Kemba misses the game, like I like Jason Tatum is cold as ice and you see the final score this one these guys could not buy a basket tonight. And this was the game that if Kemba Walker plays that's less time for Pritchard that's less shots for for Tatum who certainly couldn't you know wasn't on tonight and maybe they're getting better looks because Jeanne listen when Kemba Walker's Out There He commands a lot more attention than Richard does or, you know, whoever else you know Waters or whoever you want to put in there. So it's a little bit of a trickle-down effect. I will say I liked that song even though Tatum was off he found other ways to contribute. I mean triple-double tonight, you know, you don't want to just sniffed that away so credit credit for that
Tatum Leads the Celtics To a Nail Biting Win Over the Trail Blazers
"Celtics have been good and fourth quarters lately, especially especially closing which has been uncharacteristic based on how they've been in the season, but they went up against one of the most clutch teams in the NBA and it looked for a little bit there Celtics had that I think it's 117 109 and then they just kind of stopped for a little bit from that five-minute Mark of the one minute Mark not great shots. Thank goodness for Rob their bailed them out a couple of times with a couple buckets there or else they might not have scored at all and then Tatum with a freaking dagger at the end there which was you know classic no no no. Yes shot but I mean that's what score is due and you know birth. That was cold-blooded. So that was it, you know Marcus there at the end, you know, you'd like to see him hit the two free throws, but that was clever there with the Celtics did missed a free-throw trap the dog trapped the rebounder Portland had no timeouts no ability to to advance it. I loved this game. I mean, I know everybody was freaking out over the Denver game. I loved this game. Not just how they pulled it out, but I loved the pace they played with I love the intensity just felt like it was the whole game felt like it got kicked up a notch.
Boston bullies: Celtics' 31-3 run ends Nuggets' win streak
"The nuggets eight game winning streak is over after a one oh five eighty seven loss to the Celtics Denver took a seventy nine sixty five lead on a three pointer late in the third quarter the Boston immediately went on a thirty one three run and allowed just five more points after that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen brown of the Celtics attack after both were questionable to play Tatum says the second half run keyed the victory it was a big but you know there's a group in the third and kind of start the fourth Kickstarter that run and then we so then we got carried off from there Tatum finished with twenty eight points and brown had twenty as Boston won for the fifth time in six games Michael Porter junior led the nuggets with twenty points despite missing eleven of twelve from three point range I'm Dave Ferrie

"Jo Ellan beat foiled the Celtics again to help the seventy Sixers are in a season series sweep of A. one oh six ninety six wins and beat had a game high thirty five points on the heels of his forty two and thirty eight point outings respectively in back to back wins over the Celtics in January a twenty eleven Sixers run to close the first half proved to be the turning point in Philadelphia seven to win in ten games Jayson Tatum scored twenty and Jaylen brown seventeen for Boston as the teetering Celtics fell back under five hundred at twenty five and twenty six I'm guessing Coolbaugh
Doncic's scores 36, leads Mavericks past Celtics 113-108
"Another big night from look at doctors helped the Mavericks sold off the Celtics won thirteen to wanna wait doctors put up a game high thirty six points and eight rebounds to keep Dallas a float as the maps nearly let a twenty three point advantage slip away most of the first have been no reply would base we're defending really good and I think that was that was the the key to the game Boston outscored Dallas thirty five to twenty three in the fourth to pull within three late but couldn't finish the comeback Jaylen Brunson added twenty one points and Kristaps porzingis added nineteen points for the twenty five and twenty one Mavericks Jayson Tatum's twenty five points Jaylen brown's twenty four and Kemba Walker's twenty to lead the twenty three and twenty five Celtics I'm given Coolbaugh

"The full starting lineup. I'll be interested to see does theis rejoin the starting unit there. It's a it's been a couple of weeks of him Rolling Stone. That is interesting. And again, I had to go negative after a win, but you have to you got to just look at it. Now. You've got Tice playing clearly clearly better off then Thompson and roll for that matter and you know, Rob still recovering but even before that I still think what he's doing right now. Is that a problem about what happened or Bob? It's too busy it is cuz he's playing with such energy and was such a spark and I just think I'm not going to go there fully yet. But I do think this dilemma this big this three big Shuffle here. I know if we're counting Grant. No, not put them away. Three big Shuffle is just taking away from Rob's development office. And again, you're talking about what you want to see in or you want to see Rob Williams based off of his athletic profile in the energy that he brings and the rim running and the role grass and all of that stuff we talked about and just the way he was playing with Tatum and just I mean his his the metrics when he was on the floor and just how well the team was playing you want to see them utilize those minutes. I hate seeing them going down to eight nine minutes because now you're rotating it all three of these guys and then Grant as well and but right now Thompson is just awful. I mean they went back to double big tonight because Campbell was out and so you started tatem Brown, I mean tatem Brown smart and then the two bigs didn't play a lot in the second half again Z. Field goal attempts even and I get it. We don't want him shooting a lot. But I mean I don't know. He's not he's not contesting a lot of shots on defense. He's grabbing boards. And that's about it at this point. So I I just don't know. I don't know the True Value there. I'm still trying to figure it out. Yeah, this game is tough though, you know, did Jayson Tatum coming back? I think that the team news important to obviously get him going and then he went the rest of the guys. They're all scored double-figures before half-time. I mean, where where do you really wage? Unless unless you're that guy that's going to be, you know force the issue. Give me the ball right now, which we know Thompson and force. The issue is just what is he there? What is he there for, you know, is he doing enough to justify long enough to justify as minutes is all I'm asking. I think the rebounding aspect. Yeah, you know defensive he's had a couple of impressive performance on the defensive end, but just not a matter of of late, you know, nothing that really known know shut down performance that really stood out of so, I mean myself character Myles Turner has entered the chat. Oh, wow,.

"Yeah, I agree on that. I mean Believe It or Not Jaylen Brown may have ruined Jayson Tatum's MVP bit if you can. But Hey listen, if you're a Celtics fan, you're fine with that because that means you have like a 2000 monster. I mean if both these guys end up on all NBA teams, that's better than one guy being MVP and trying to carry a little because teams that have just one guy they don't go anywhere. You don't care who you are you need. What up dog? But forget the MVP thing though, that's kind of the thing. We are talking about earlier would like the Ascension of both these guys having to get to a next level for the team to get to to the title. I think it's clearly true story of the Season which is that happens and they can get their it doesn't and they stay where they are then they don't but right now I mean you're in a position where a lot of teams don't have one of these guys the Celtics home all of them, you know, and that's the whole thing if these two guys are two of the top twelve fourteen players in the NBA forget about it like the you can fill with semi ojeleye is and Grant Williams isn't get away with it or the season. So that's the story of the season right now. You've got Jalen literally going games where he barely misses. He doesn't miss a two-point shot. He's Unstoppable with the boss and then it's like oh, yeah. There's also Tatum who might be one of the top three or four most skilled offensive players in the game who just puts forth in effortless 40 tonight. So those two things I mean, like I said, is those guys dead Yeah do this again. You can supplement with those other with those other players and and and get away with it. And in other words from John about Graham Williams minutes or semi-liquid fine within minutes, right? You're the you're the Lakers and LeBron and then you fill with whatever Jag wants to play for you because they want to jump it off your coattails to a championship..

Chance to kind of evaluate About all that man football game a must win situation that would be a little bit more out there and you know that that A couple of plays tennessee make plays in second half. I didn't see guy celebrating Like you see other. Football teams doing In the first half arkansas mixed ms a twenty one yard field goal. i didn't guy celebrating for that and For me that that is alarming. We can look at the exit moles and all those things certainly. There's plenty of improvement to make their but just looking at that Time for me. "We're GONNA. Take your calls because yes, I was just watching. You know last night minding my own Business Michigan Colorado from nineteen ninety was on ESPN, and I did not watch the end of it. I couldn't watch the end of it. I refuse to watch the I. Don't want to see the end of it. Graham Ray Hall indycar racing's returning tomorrow night from Texas Motor speedway. He'll be joining us in about twenty minutes time and he he will revel in this because he's a diehard Buckeye Fan. And he loves he lets making my life miserable, but I love him love him. And joining us right now. Because my love baseball, memories New Baseball Memories. This common summer and the question questions. We're going to get it from MLB network as well as Jayson stark joining us right now. Is none other than from the athletic and from MLB Network Jayson Stark joining us right now. He Jason. Rich I'm doing well. Strange Times, but we're all healthy. Here's that's good. How are you? Well I'd love to see some baseball this summer. What the heck's happening right now Jason is you and I are are. Are you know are hearing how the NBA's? GonNa move forward and the NHL has at least a plan on what it would look like when they can figure out the the where and when and the NFL is ready to roll. The question is how. Baseball is so far afield from that. Were everything right now on that front? Well the VIBE I'm getting right now is they're determined to play? And if that means, there's no deal. Then Rob. Manfred will just announce schedule. I don't know if it'll be fifty games. Fifty two games four games forty eight games. Whatever it is, they'll announce a schedule. They'll announce. Players should report. June whatever that is, we'll start playing July whatever it is. That's going to be the deal. All players must report. And I look that's not a good way to go about this, but. If that's what it takes I. I'm I'm more convinced than ever that that's what would happen is they would just require players to play and they wouldn't have a lot of choice. So Where things stand right now in. Terms negotiation. Yes, sir, we've I mean we've seen this movie. A million times I'm tired of watching it. But they're, they're nowhere really March twenty six. They came into agreement. Two and a half months later, and they can no longer agree on what they agreed on, and that just sums up the state of Labor relationship in baseball. You've got this situation. Where owners are saying, we're going to lose. Millions and millions and millions of dollars. Even if we play if they're no fans in the stands, and you had the union saying you believe that. You'RE GONNA have to prove well. They're not gonNA. It's not gonNA happen and so. Like basis of conversation. Would assume that. At least they understand each other's prentice. That's not even happening, so there's been a couple of proposals. Swat it back and forth. There's there's just no basis for conversation and it's. It's discouraging to watch especially at this moment in America. Of course, it is Jason. You know if if baseball's saying okay we we have a stopgap. And that stopgap is a shortened season. And that. From what I read. would pay players thirty percent of their salaries. And Baseball rejected the players. Saying here's something twice the size in terms of schedule that will pay us. Seventy percent of our salaries well. Obviously, we're seeing what's in the middle. So why can't they get to the middle? Well. You know. I think the essence of it. Is this are? The Union made a proposal on Sunday. I think they knew that the economics would be rejected by a major league baseball, but there were definitely. Elements in that proposal that work talking about, but in order to talk about it. You'd actually have to have a dialogue conversation and I can think of a million words to describe these negotiations. Conversation is not one of them. Just for tennis match. It would be like you hitting the ball over the net at me and me looking at it going not swinging at that and I'll be has not responded and have. Floated this fifty game season idea, but have never proposed. It said they don't plan to make cap proposal. That's where we are I what I think. Ultimately, baseball is going to have to make another proposal at some point, but I can't explain the a why wasted another week because I I look at my calendar July. Fourth is four weeks tomorrow four weeks. and. That's the date by what I mean by which was an eighty game season would hit I mean that's what I'm saying here is and so when when is midnight? Because you know that's usually when these things have to get done Jayson stark here in the rich Eisen, show when Wendy you think midnight is, or is even that up for interpretation debate. As well. How many games how many games are you going to play a fifty forty eight fifty four games schedule? Then you don't have to start that till August I right? if you really wanted to play a fairly normal half season, starting on July fourth made a lot of sense was never firm date, but it was a great day to aspire to because you have your. He would have the states to yourself for three weeks, and what an opportunity that would have been for the sport. Right we just. We just came through two weeks ago. More People Watch Tom. Brady and Peyton manning play golf and watch the final round of the PGA. People are so desperate for something to watch. Baseball could've been the only sport playing for three weeks, but now there are bad at a time to do that. Like I'm here in July fifteenth now, but who knows You started doing the math rich three-week spring training. Okay some track three weeks from July the fourth then. Need time to travel, so that's going to be more time. These teams are going to need time to get their facilities up to these health and safety protocols. That's more time players after they report. would have to be tested and then isolated for a period of time. I mean like they would have to. Have a deal done by. Happy Hour you know in order to play July fourth or or else you're looking at a different scenario, but there's not gonna be a deal until they actually start talking. Jayson stark here on the rich Eisen show and I guess based on. The economics you can't come up with a schedule but we can at least come up with what what what at least can we come up with? which is is what it would look like would would would it do they at least have an idea of what the? The WHO would play who and where I mean, is it at least that hammered out depending on eighty game seventy games sixty fifty I mean they at least have that somewhere? There there was a there was an eighty two game season There was a definite format with that. would have been like pick. Pick the dodgers. The dodgers would have played. Every team in the NFL west, thirteen times, and all the teams in the Al West six times so three series home and home if you cutting down to fifty, four or forty eight, or whatever it is I like there would still be clearly an effort to regionalize as much as possible. That's why these are the east than it is in the West. The goal to minimize travel as best they could and they'll be now. has a a number of different schedule modules that they could roll out. But there there's so many unanswered questions and scheduled just one of many. Okay Jayson Stark so then you know I. wanted an update and your here on June fifth twenty twenty is that they're not even talking to each other and and and everybody's essentially. screwing it up so. What. What do you think here I mean? What are what are at some point you? We will get it. We're at least going to get fifty games right that we're going to do and I. Think. It'll be somewhere in that range. Okay, there's no agreement and so okay. So what happens if rob Manfred? Announcing this here's our schedule. First of all the players wouldn't have much choice, but to show up and play..

"For a good stretch of the important minutes of that game. Arguably though the clippers were tougher when he was off the floor when he came off the floor and the third quarter. That's why Lou will and and a mantra is really kind of. Sucks were head I think by seven or eight points at that point closed the lead to one I think as close as one before I came back in Boston, kind of pulled back out, so it was interesting to see that the lead kind of come and go like that, but. This is all by. Jason Tatum this coming out party. He's been amazing over the last month to six weeks. Really since save the game the all way. Host holiday. Acknowledgement. Technology! Says the only took you. It only took you a little over team. ONS still for knowledge, great. Gosh. But he sense that since you know after the first of the year whatever you know, he has been really top notch, and I think like for the Celtics fans who have been saying you know what's the top end of this team? It was always about Ken Jason Tatum become top. Ten. Guy Top five guy and I figure everything. We've seen over the last six weeks. Not only answer to that question, but maybe even the question is. Are we being too low on ceiling I? Mean you see a game late tonight? Where he's doing things that are against the best in the toughest circumstances and your name, the names that come to mind or not like well. You know other pretty decent players. You go to the top of the list you know and I just. This this. Could be hired Jayson tatum right now after a game like this one against the clippers and the run he's been on. This isn't an isolated incident. He's been building and building and building on this and you know he's a star. He's a superstar and this is what the needed to really start to build their case towards being A. Really decent team who can get high seed in the Eastern, conference the difference the Celtics in pastures and this year they've got a guy who maybe is good to be the best player in one of the best series, and they haven't had that as Ahah was as good as he whom shall not be named was as good as all those guys. What just how awful it was I'd go what's your first day was like what the worst days were like? Like T in terms of the pain of your experience. The first day I was in jail a we were at a place in Trenton. And it's called Assessments Donna. And you gotta go in. And it's it's January or February. I walk in your butt naked and you got about fifty people that are button naked. I'm eighty pounds. Overweight is about eight degrees outside. And I'm a grower now to show my my peanut. Is this big and I go to walk through a place where you going to be spending a lot of time and I go into a place and I'm sitting in a In a place with my on my knees. I'm kneeling down with five. Other guys kneeling behind us in a single line. One guy in front of me a Puerto Rican guy has on his pants and there's somebody in the back row name Shade is calling me O.. J. J. Man can you are well. I need you do me a favor and you gotta pass something down. Awesome down as a man. I'm not doing anything with my first. Danny leave me the hell alone. I'm trying to be the one that you know can recover from and help people help me help others. How much time have you spent in your your life if you're saying the idea of therapy isn't something that Rehab? These aren't things that you thought of. How much time have you spent with introspection on how it is that? All of that death that you're talking about has shaped you. I use the right now Dan. I tried to surround myself with people who don't judge me That's that's why we kind of handpicked when you come into rebound we WANNA make sure that you wanna get better and you want to make sure that you're going to be my family for the rest of your life so you no. If you call up you know eight five five on sound like a commercial e five five zero to hope you're going to speak to me now. That's here though. No you're here. You do sound like a commercial. Ah The reason that you're here. You're telling this story this way very vulnerably breaking down crying. The reason you're doing that is because there might be somebody in this audience right now. That doesn't know they have a problem problem and that number is not irrelevant to them that we're not doing telethon or they know we're not doing right and I just want I want people to get better and and if you call up your speak to me because you're going to be a part of my family for the rest of my life and I don't want somebody come in and just hang out with me. I want people to come in and change their life. And you know I hang with all the rebound alumni. We go to games next week. I'm going to the Saint. John's game I gotta get thirty one tickets. In over four years we have one hundred thirty three alumni nine You know so. It's all my family. And we all root for each other. And if you just name says rebound behind it if you went to rebound and say Dan and they said rebound I'm picking up it said you know Julio past I'm not picking up I pick up behind rebound because we both certified each other. We stamped each each other and we know we're calling each other just to tell each other we love you over. We need something is going to. We really do need something so give out that telephone number again. It's eight five five five five zero to hope or you can get it at futures recovery healthcare and you can actually speak to me you know access to me. It's a big place but it's a small place so back to the question person that I was asking you. How much introspection have you done about the ways that you were shaped by the amount of death that you've had in your life we've been working on a lot of amd are not looking back And the best way I can help myself is by helping others. Others is by teaching and everyday I teach a course in the morning from six forty five to seven thirty we might be on ocean paddling. Something I'm telling people my story how I'm feeling today Every time I'm teaching somebody something It helps me learn more about the situation. I'm no expert on sobriety. I'm no expert in a mental illness but we have experts there. But you know what most people haven't been to like you said as much as I've been through and I'm still here trying to help others helped me so. Forgive me so impressing on the question. What I'm doing you're telling me flatly? Hey part of recovery look ahead. Don't look in the thing that I'm asking. Can you to look at where exactly right and you know what I get up. I'm sorry no I get up every morning. Three twenty five. I don't have a clock in my house. Passion wakes me up. I get to the gym. Take care of myself with two hours and I'm on my way to work and it takes me hours to get there. I go through this video messaging APP. I can talk to everyone about lum night with my tomorrow. It might work today. He might be dead and boom and we'll talk about it we discuss. I see everybody's face on there and we all lifting each other up. Somebody has a problem and then I'm on my way to work. I stayed. He didn't about eight thirty at night. I get home about nine. Fifteen nine twenty. I'm back in bed do it again. It's a robotic life right. Now is the life. I'm doing God's purpose purpose right now and maybe when I get better and better at this maybe I can loosen up and not work for years and fifteen days straight without a day off and and never feel tired and maybe go on to a different part. Maybe one day be Yoko host. which you Jason used to be like after your all-star career earlier you had how much of the media career and an a lucrative media career and you and I don't expect anybody after nineteen years at say? Hey Man heal your dance co host. I don't expect that I also I do what I do. And and SBN ED rebound futures cubby healthcare but. Tell us about that time. Because you're going to have to forgive my ignorance here because I feel like I insulted you a little bit by saying you're pretty good player. Now you're an all star and you are an all star who also had charisma. You didn't get where you were because you had a good mouth you had game and and you had a lot of charisma with that and that turned into a media career that lasted. How long Well I think we will for the room was we were a couple of weeks away. Winning Emmy Offers Year with NBC WE WILL NBC before Charles Barkley. You would have been great at this. You know that you would have been great at this. Thank you but you know that you don't need me to tell you. That was the path you were on this is my passion is my passion One day be sitting with you on Saturday or something in this but to be honest as transparent. Oh you know this is a different world. Even nineteen years ago you know. I can get office every single day to do shows of course not as big as your show. What we we just did the today show not long ago do sixty minutes you know? These are the type shows. I'm doing that in here telling you a story about Charles Barkley sitting on a bicycle. You know I'm telling you you stories about you. Know How destroyed a life and I destroy lives around people that love me. So what else can I do. I can't go back up to a mountain again. That didn't work. I try to isolate myself and get away from everybody so I'm here and this is what I do what I love to do what you do. Of course I would would but you know I feel like some of the joy though in what I remember from you as a broadcast personality It was a joyous one and it wasn't wasn't like when I thought of the party around Jason Williams. I didn't think having consequences. I thought the party around Jason Williams was going to be pretty fun because you were a guy who seem do enjoy life. I didn't know you in any meaningful way. But that guy doesn't stand in front of me now. That guy like I you you seem like I don't know how funny you would be on television division right now because it it feels like you're a little bit understandably broken by everything. This experience has been. I don't know how much funnier doing these days. Well when I'm around my teammates back and I'm in there I'm doing my thing and I might teammates all the people you see outside this window You know we have a good time. I'm a you know this is a interview where we're talking about a man who I took everything from so I find it very inappropriate it in my life to be on here being guy that that I am Joking laughing or telling stories or be the an almost emmy award winner. Oh whatever you WANNA call it and being good in his business. When I'm in this situation right now Jason you serve time though you serve your punishment? It's not not like you've got like you didn't get off noted jail. I haven't been in one in my head So I do have great. Days is days like this when I have to come in in India the first thing I worry about my daughter's own no I'm doing this. Because they like their once. You just get back on. And they'll say the do it. Dan Does we. Don't go back and talk about this. You don't have to talk about this more but you know my my purpose right now as I get better. Every day is lifted stigma interview. Anybody who who's another side window they would tell you that that Jason is still. He'll when he's with us as when he comes into duties type type interviews because rehashing all the Shit Jason. And you're telling me I don't as part of my healing. I need to not be looking back anymore. I am rehashing every last.

"And we called nine one one inside of eight seconds and I just ran and I ran and jumped in a swimming pool and I was butt naked. Didn't even know how I got there to this day. I don't know how but but I know what I did was wasn't new way. My Dad raised me. That was a cowardly act. And I'M NOT GONNA blame it on shock or anything else I just did it in and that each me up along along with you know just if I had to Redo everything again I just won't I I just I know it could be avoided. Then that's what I'm saying. I know it could have been avoided but if you could do everything again what are you own a gun. I could tell you that But Jason Every day. You must do something because you carry the weight of this because because you tell your story and because it reaches people because it's vulnerable than anybody can understand this is like you're carrying this on every damn day in a way that's gotta hurt and be need dispiriting and you're trying to do this. Good work now to heal some of these places correct. That's what you're trying to do. That's what I do you know Bean futures recovery healthcare every day. And I don't do it for just you know just helping people but it helps me. You know I get a chance to you. Know we'll watch the light going and other people's lives I get those. They were done for thirty or ninety days or and then they become part of my family because some part of my family still upset set with me and I am here. You know some of you you know we say rebound here. We say that blood makes you related it but accountability love and empathy makes us family now so I get a chance to help people who are not judging me Some people say I live in a bubble But I actually love helping people get better why to help me so I get a chance to jump airplanes and snorkel scuba with them with psychiatrists couches and my therapist. And when I leave you right now I'm going back. We'll go to group will process this. They will process. This will watching this Without psychiatrist and I needed I. This is therapy session for me. Info everyone. He added comes with me. I can't have somebody comes spent thirty days with me and say I'm GonNa go do the the best show on ESPN And you guys stay here you know and they were like Jay we go you go. You know we're not you know and my whole goal down is not only help. People beat addiction but it is to lift the stigma. If you have cancer you get chemo in your house. Your Dad knew you had it right like he knew he wanted to keep you out of that. You were you not drinking at all but you know what my dad no not on private so privately. You're drinking but he went. He was trying if my dad was. He's not around but and it was the off season Yes Because you know why had to play hard is because my dad was like you know you got freedom the harder and the better you played in the team had to win. The team was winning into coach. was happy you know. Even a saint. John's play for Lou Carnesecca. If I was doing something wrong and Luke on a second couldn't get to me he'll say I I know what I'm GonNa do and he has show up in the projects to my dad's house and and you know I'll be so mad in lieu but it made me who I am today because you know it wasn't like Paris today will you get a time out or you know here. You know. My Dad was a serious man. He was serious about. You know this this disease. I have have a disease Dan. It tells me I don't have a disease. I have a disease the only disease you can go to jail for you know. I know I had an accident but the way I acted after the accident. Uh Uh still eats me up. Also we'll take me back to that because you said I don't think and I know some of these details but I don't know how much of the audience knows these details. You mentioned butt naked in the pool. Oh take me back to the moment you call nine one one. Then what do you remember because you said you didn't want it to be shocked but it sounds like you behaved in a way that feels out of character to you you all. I remember Dan Buzz. The gun going off me dropping it. We called nine one one and the next thing I knew I was bud. Naked back up from upside Peut I I took. I don't remember being in the pool. I just remember being back in the room in front of some people in the room and being butt naked after Iran and it should to a format reports where that you were trying to clean off the blood right. That are the most likely if if I ran jumped in swimming pool in the middle of February damn right right. I was probably trying to get rid something where if I was not with the crude I should not have been with not that. They're good or bad people they want people that have been around a long time. Somebody would you know slapped me and said Jason had accent stop. Stop what you're doing so I don't blame anybody to blame. I pick my circles and that's what I do now. I picked circles that helped me. We get better every day and so in the middle of that. How drunk were you because it does? It sounds to me from the way that you're explaining this that it's not the it's not that you you had jerome children. I drove home. It was you know like I said before. Now one one is too many to handle a gun I was a stumbling. I was stumbling with my word but one if you have one drink drink. If you don't have any drinks mishandle recklessly handle a gun is a problem so if I was a a zero zero one or zero to five have. I shouldn't have been. What were you doing? Where you just with guns? No I was showing guns. I was in my in my bedroom games locked up and we went in there to impress these go. Just yeah yeah yes. If I'm showing off guns yeah I would say look this shotgun. Is this one and this. What is this one and everybody was holding one and because your life you'll never China's toby somebody'll Picasso? I'm showing somebody'll gun that's where my self esteem is. What what the hell am I doing that? Why was I doing it? I don't know why I've but I guess what I did I've done. You don't know why time examining your life even now. From retrospect with all the introspection that you're doing you still don't know why I don't want to I. I'm saying at the time I didn't know why right. Now I know I was doing because I had no self-esteem I shouldn't have been doing that. I was going to loan people money. WHO had bad times? And that's why they were playing where they were playing in some way between there and there I had grown man. Oh Fourteen groman in a bedroom and my bedroom where me and my wife lived in. And I'm showing shotguns. Why shouldn't have been doing? That's you know that's what you live with it. Can I replay it all back and is bad for me but it was bad for Mr Christophe Offi underhill with with me. It was a bad situation but the adult. You look back at that you and says you idiot right like one hundred new. Haven't forgive none feel like the way you're talking it doesn't feel like this dude has forgiven himself or or has forgiven that. Come out of my circle right now. I'm out of my element. You know when I'm when I'm back Treatment Center and I'm helping people get my element You know I get better. It's been doing this for four years now. and I'm real good at Do the grace God well. Because it's your because you're so honest want Dan. I'm a warning or an example to some people right and most of the people that people you see it at came down with me me. I'm both so I'm sorry I don't mean to upset you You don't have to be Simon while no because I do. I appreciate the vulnerability of this story but I don't love mining around in it For for for content Because You you are wounded right now. Kim Bet heavy data one day at a time but it seems like something that it's hard not like it's hard to ever forgive yourself for because you're sitting here blaming yourself killing your father while we're at it now I've been to the doctor and his life L. and he couldn't get out of bed and if my dad had toy I was the first one to be there to help them with it and at this time when all twenty lawyers is in your living room the NBA everybody else helicopters. And everything's going on outside and press everywhere I selfishly. Didn't think that when he told me couldn't get got a bid that he was talking about his own health. I you know I didn't take time because my dad is never missed a day's work so I should have been more more key today so yes. Two people died that day. Will you forgive yourself like day try. Hi It s what I do what I do you know I'm working. You know I get a chance to sit in class. I get a chance to lead a class. I get a chance to help these young people who in old people people mid age Gil together. They don't judge me in an as to what I'm very. Good Grace of God. Tell the people people if you don't mind and I do appreciate like I've told you it's It's odd that this came together this way because I really have been wanting to talk to you for a long time because I couldn't have have imagined that there wouldn't be enormous life lessons in everything that happened to you. I'm guessing that you've arrived in this place where that's You're hoping hoping that that's a small part of your story that you can because you feel like you've ended these lives you're now trying to prevent you're trying to save lives over here with what you're doing doing now And the reason you're so transparent with your stories to tell the people what this is specifically so that we can get you the appropriate promotion for what it is that you're working on as your life's work now is try to repair your life. It's a drug and alcohol anxiety and depression center into quest. The Florida right. Outside of Jupiter brand brand new state of the art..

"What was that intervention like? What do you remember? I remember. Curtis this Martin Teaching Baba's study at My house now for twenty years every Wednesday he might miss one and I remember him not pressing me to go but suggesting and a and I remember me going up and buying a cabin in the middle of the woods and Charles Oakley occurred us. Martin coming up there in do an intervention and curtis came up with. What would Jesus do? Mantra and Charles Oakley came up with a baseball baton. And what would his Louisville slugger do And in one way or the other they they got me into the car and they brought me down and I found out what I'm really good at. I noticed that you were saying He was pretty good basketball player And I might have been a pretty good basketball. Ask a ball player or good basketball player all star but Dan. I am gifted from God To help people beat their substance abuse alcohol whole problems and say this would a humble hot that. I'm very good at that too. Because you tell your story very vulnerably very honestly. Charles Oakley was with a baseball bat. And you're drunk and you answer the door and we're going to either do this Curtis Martin's way which is the Lord's way or Charles Oakley is going to beat you until we leave exactly right and that's what I needed to do an intervention. There's no you know mess up In Oakley to this day comes down to you know rebound futures. Every you know three or four weeks and he just pop. How did he have this reputation that everyone knew that? If Charles Oakley shows up with a bat everyone's gotta go running like. How does everyone know that if Charles Oakley Didn't need a baseball bat. First of all I could barely stand. I was eighty pounds heavier And Charles Oakley brought one justin casting case and you know what and it was crazy because curtis kept looking over my shoulder and I was like what it so. He's looking in my face and I'm like what is he looking. I'll look back. It's also put somebody's back. 'cause that's odd. What is he doing? And then when I look back and he was pissed because he thought I was going to come into this beautiful cabin which it was is beautiful but with snow and White Snow of away and he came up his purple light rain trouble where white interior there was nothing but mud up there so he he was already pissed that is all is trump was now. You've got to try to get Jason into a car who's drunk and my throw up all over the place so he went happy be and so they just threw you in Rehab right from there. They took they went straight to the facility. Chris Mullin you know the best ball shooting in the world also struggled filled with all all year and he was like sponsored to me and he's the one who said look you know I got coach but you guys got You gotta go Jason. He's in a bad way and Coast Carnesecca made the final call and he sent up Charles Oakley and any needed all. The Charles Oakley occurred this morning to get me into too. We have and I thank God every day that he was that the the first time that you had considered the idea that you would have a problem. Had you gone in and out of Rehab before that there was no I just noted I never been in a Rehab Didn't really know about it. You know believe it or not a lot of athletes in a lot of people that are Brown and black like ourselves. I don't know about Treatment Centers. They don't know that you can go away and get better. You Know Rehab was something and then the stigma that goes along with it right. Well athletes will you know so we're warriors. We're not supposed to be week. We supposed to take everything on ourselves. you know so. I never considered it. I knew I had a problem. Even at a young Age in all raising two children through Saint John's you know at a ten year old and a six year old missus kids You know I know I would drink in. I knew that went on for a long time. But you know I. When my dad was alive he will go everywhere with me and I tell you you know stories we can go? Oh On and on but you know about stories about my dad. And he used to always used to put a cut in front of you go to Salvation Army put a cut in front of my penthouse doors does is sleep on it and we would not he snored and me and my brother used to take a magic Malkin at Lowe's in docking step on but them down so we know which one's the tiles not to step on so we can get out and then he wants went to the bathroom. We Cook was like Oh man would say oh you know. He was putting the light on and often. He saw that so he went and bought a cot from salvation. Army slipped on their foot. A good part of my career. And that's when I became a good basketball player in NBA. Explain that to me again. I'm not totally understanding. How it is? Your father was raising you. This way with I was an Mba all-star. Aw I was a star in the NBA. And my dad nude it. I was allergic to alcohol so he would follow me everywhere just like your dad is which you all the time to make sure that you wouldn't do. They make sure that I would be on the straight narrow we head because he was trying to protect you from what was hereditary family illness. I would tell the xactly right and I'll tell you this that. One day. After the Game Bruce Willis with came up to him and my dad had a construction company. And you know I have my cdl L. Job license lay brick. I did all with them and then went to the game. Play Michael Jordan. Did you know that I would play. I will feed up all my animals and then I would go lay brick or drive a tractor trailer with these six or eight caterpillar. Bodos on it and then go to shoot around and then come back and lay brick and then go play basketball game. That's just what my dad wanted me on side of them. All the time used to Jubal with two hands and go man basketball ain't no that ain't no job no real job. And that's what he had to do and I remember after game. One Time Bruce Willis was waiting for me and he was like y'all go with me. We have a couple of drinks and I said Dad. This is Bruce Willis and you know he's a who you know Bruce Willis. Can I go out with him. He's a will boost Willard from I said he from you know diehard and he's like Oh man like that's my man I gotta come see you tomorrow anyway. I bought the batteries. And I can't put this man. That Bruce Willis from diehard batteries from the movie and he was like okay appreciated additive and I went home that night and that's just the way he was. Wait a minute. Your father was basically fathering you as you're an NBA all star. Yeah you're he he is. You're still a kid in almost every way where he's trying to still protect you from all the bad stuff I one hundred percent did not. He used to tell me all the time. So Jason You got to play at one hundred and twenty percent if shack plan at forty percent could you damn so. Ain't that good. You Ain't that good and he said potential and you haven't done shit lately and he said it it man he said you live in the fast lane of. I missed the free throw which is terrible. Free throw issue. I Miss Anything. He'd be like Oh we tonight. You're going to take the house. You know. He was just that Kinda on a guy and he didn't believe that basketball was a job so every morning I fed up all our rescue animals and then I went to work construction then what what does shoot around. That's the whole point. I mean okay so your well your whole life is crazy because we sort of just bypassed that you've lost your sisters in. I'm pretty horrible ways and we've sort of bypass that you raised from a very early age. Her kids But what happened along the path. Where are you lost your dad and did you lose your way immediately or immediately immediately Once my dad came to the house after the accident he he said Gee I feel like I couldn't get out of bed. He was on every channel in. I couldn't move and selfishly. I didn't think nothing of it. 'cause my dad has never missed a day of work or never been and it was all all these press outside the house and all you know just helicopters and everything and I was just selfishly. I just thought about myself. I didn't even think about his health. And my dad had had a stroke and then we got him back to about eighty percent and I remember tell him I said you gotta get back to work and I said you know we. We have shots. I had to pay one point. Three million dollars. He's one on point three minutes for what is it. You should have let me die and I was like no. We're GONNA get back and we try to getting back and then we had the case coming on record. The second show in his mind was fine Dan. He was just a big strong man court in his body. So I you know my dad lives two years the paralyzed and I moved him every twenty minutes. Hire people he didn't die from what one bed so on him. He died because he just couldn't eat and he died of sticking bones man and that all came from the stress that I put up one. My Dad wow okay so jason you blame yourself for. Are you know it is what it is. That's what happened. I know it ain't just one person. One person is enough but you know I. I don't like doing these. He's so's anymore. I just love Guinea. I'm blessed with Jason. Means Hilo you know I. I'm just blessed with the ability to help people get better but you know I always watch on TV. I was like you know what one day. I'm GONNA reach you. I met you locker rooms. I met you before You been covering sports as long as I've been playing So you know we saw you each junior. Dad Always had empathy for you when but also only empathy but almost like wow man my dad would be doing the same thing I read I recognize I recognize is what you're saying like when I say well it sounds like you were just a kid and your dad was still Dr- dragging you around the NBA. I didn't grow up for a long time in that respect even though I was responsible and other places like you were raising your sister's kids you're clearly an adult there when that was forced on you and I just remember when everything that happened in with you I remember thinking to myself I could see myself in a moment of weakness about to lose everything about to lose the things. My father has has protected me or his case brought you know come to freedom from Cuba to make sure to give me. I saw myself like what would I do in that situation. If accidentally killed somebody I was GONNA lose everything that I'd ever identified as myself worth. Would I do the right thing or would I cover it up. Would I try to cover. And and when I read the details of your story I felt for you because it in that moment. I I'm sure you've replayed it a million different times in that moment you've said that you saw cowardice. Cowan is one hundred percent because the gun went off. Nobody expected to go off..

"I don't think you're GONNA to be able to stop listening to this one this is former. NBA All star Jayson Williams as raw and as candid as he can be about very difficult subject matter so I've been wanting to talk to this guy for a long time. I've been an admirer. For a long time of how much personality he had and how he turned his charisma into something and then his life You know fell in a ditch and he seemed interesting and it seemed seemed like he fell off the map and now the work that he is doing helps explain. Perhaps the roots of some of what happened with him. Jason Williams is someone who had a very good career over across how many years Jay Saudi around ten So a very good career across ten years and you were something of a media sensation in New York correct Tori and what was happening there. You you grasped onto the idea of. I'm going to show a little bit of personality and people are going to like me for my mouth. I'm going to be able to sell that. Yeah well you know like you have the relationship with your dad. I had the same relationship with my dad. If he was here right now he would be sitting right on side of me and he was great storyteller and I took that on with me. Because he's always with me and ice to tell stories and also I played for Lou. CARNESECCA Saint John's university who is charismatic and had a personality and I've been it always very transparent with my life so I guess that's what But me if you want to say at Upper Chalon of athletes New York a New York made you a star New York with a mouth with a little bit of game made you a legitimate sports Dr and with that life came all sorts of things right all of a sudden I mean temptation was all around you long before that that's just playing in the NBA but playing in New York and now getting some fame beyond basketball that ends up resulting resulting in what. Yeah and I've been through a whole lot then you know I'm not here to cry. My ask anybody feel sorry for me all the stuff that's happened to me. I have caused you know I was the one who is reckless. I take full responsibility. I'm sorry for it. I'm not a minute Mo- this beyond not an hour that goes by. I don't think about Mr Staffy. VI and all the pain that I've caused his sister he didn't have any children Or wasn't married but all the pain that I caused his sister in the pain that have caused my family in my friends also I had a night where I was. Just I with my family. It wasn't like it was put it in the media. Lose hold on a second if I may forgive me for the interruption for the audience that doesn't know because I don't assume that the people listening to this know what exactly happened with your life so so for the audience that doesn't know and I don't know all of the details here but I've been fascinated by the story a former globetrotter had brought a driver. That you just just mentioned his name right now to to your home your mansion for a party that night and he ended up dead and then you got into a lot of trouble for appearing to cover that up. Yeah Yeah we were having dinner you know. I lost three sisters to AIDS and stabbing In my third sister was shot in the face by a husband husband And my first sister was stabbed seventeen times beautiful face for the hammer on the first woman advocates. Eight virus She she had neither my second consistent because he was robbed for two dollars and saw lost. Three sisters and I had to adopt both their kids in wiles at Saint. John's university so too fast forward up After he got hurt I went to bring my grandchildren to a Harlem globetrotter game in Seoul a couple of players that played on the Harlem Globetrotters who play with me and I often come back to my house We stopped off at a restaurant. The owner of the restaurant corded audited Driver whose name is Mr Christophe who I met that ninety dine with us Had Jokes with US had a good time. We went back to my house and I was showing around the home. I went into my bedroom and I have escape machines at my home. I was showing shotguns. that I paid read a lot of money for I'm showing them on a different kind of designs in what they do a fourteen and a twelve gauge blahsy. Blahsy in a gun went. Went off When I went to hand over to somebody in afflict close and it went off and hit Mr Staffy than a museum driver uh-huh and killed him instantly? I did not know he was in the House did not see him Do not see him behind me and worst day of everybody's life who's involved in. I'm sorry I I don't know what else to go but to tell you that no every day I wake up. I wish he would never happen. I shouldn't have been acting recklessly. I version had guns in my house. I don't even know why even though they were shotguns. In you know I watch all the stuff I listen to your show LISTEN TO ESPN. And I watch. How athletes have guns? I'm not comparing. I'm just identify I for Myself Dan. You had guns without even knowing why you had you know will I had handgun. Still wasn't just shotgun but it's just part of what that life was now that's bs because because you know. I've never been to a club where I really start trouble and you know you what happens is when you lose your core people when you lose your your team yoga routine to help you get there. And that's and then they're not digging into you really helping you and they say jay is time to go home. It's one o'clock in the morning and you go you go home. I find some new friends who are not going to tell me to go home and then you find that new possibilities and they find a posse and then you're surrounded with a bunch of people that you don't know record chicken heads. And why would I have a gun. You Know Nobody's GonNa rob me. I'm not in places where I'm going to get rob. It's why athletes have guns is in a circuit of people that know that they're sick of this secrets and you keep that for the people that are around. Did you all the time to let them know. You know trump better not say I was doing drugs. You'd better not say I was doing this. Look back that's where that comes from. You Know How many times you see somebody to shoot the way out of a club. That doesn't as it happened so it was just my low self esteem and my recklessness that I've caused a drama and a pain ned that went down and there's no excuse for that I'm not you know that's I I I I would never want gun that even at the state or the federal law prohibits me for owning a gun. Because I'm a big Fan. I just want to see one more. I mean it's ruined your life right like you. You had your on top of the world in the way that you're talking about who my life. It ruined the lives of Mr Christoph. If he's you know he was trying to get his life together he was just came out of out of of a sentence And he was then have family but he had his sister and his whole life to live four. And I don't know if you know how it would feel to take something from somebody that's all they're going to have in their life. You know and I did that in and it could have been prevented venit because I was reckless. You know you shouldn't I shouldn't it could have been avoided so you know that's where I'm at with that and I. I have to do what I do everyday to try to pass time because it's difficult When you accidentally take innocent Samantha Life? So it's it's painstaking. Why are you talking about this? I came here today to talk to you. I while the relationship that you have with your dad My Dad never been to the hospital and seventy five US and when I was on every channel in oh he had a stroke and he couldn't recover recover from it and he's my best friend Any died so two people died that night. Actually you know so I see you on TV. And I see you at your Dan I was. It's like you know what I wanted to do. This show I want to talk the Dan and One of these days and came in. And you said you were interested in token because your stories crazy Jason Jason. Your story is I don't know if the audience understand what you've been through and whatever. The daily depression is that you must live with because of the guilt that you feel bill because you're articulating very well the guilt that you feel because you took another man's life and yet you to have had your life ruined by this reckless accident that that involved that night there was too much drinking right. There was drinking going on at night. In my case there was not alcohol in it But it was recklessness enough if you have being reckless period let alone having a drink one drink is too many to be handling a gun at all. I noticed now a new then. I was just reckless when you know you're reckless. These kind of things happen a while. I'm here to talk to you is because for the last four and a half years. You know I've been helping people to have drug and alcohol. All conditions in a lot of people here in Florida Substance Abuse Anxiety and depression just like myself Started a program and teamed up with a program has been around for eight eight years futures recovery healthcare and We bought something to it. I've been doing this now for four four years as I've been sober and We choose to outdoor adventure. Tapie was jumping out of airplanes scuba diving snorkeling along without therapist. Decided I wanNA talk to you about all this and I'm GonNa give you the opportunity to talk about this because it sounds like what your life's work has become. I see that you've walked in here with four people that you described as your crew your These are your sponsors your. I don't know the word that you know. These are my teammates these People that Are In rebound who help me Help others help myself. Well that's what you've dedicated yourself two now right because you carry around the shame and the guilt and all of. I can't even imagine Jason What you've been through and I understand that you're not the victim here. I understand that there were actual victims victims here and you feel great remorse about that but you this had to have broken you in many ways. Living with this yeah you know I still have children who were not happy with the situation? Of course they're not happy when I do interviews like this. I'm bringing back up something. And they might meet new friends and they go. Oh Oh man you know just what your dad was. NBA All star. I didn't notice and believe it or not in our You try to disappear and I bought a cabinet in the middle of the woods in China. Drink myself damn near to death in one Charles. Oakley and Curtis Martin. I'll come and do an intervention. I wouldn't have come down to you. Know to futures recovery. Health can't can't get better in and stay here and we're going to drink yourself to death. I was drinking myself. I was eighty pounds heavier than I am. Right now Now I was falling falling downstairs. I just gave up myself and Thank God I had people that didn't give up on..

"We're about to tell this week Jason Williams was an all star in the NBA. He was charismatic. He was legitimate. New York. Sports Star was hired after his playing career because he was so good at the doing of television by NBC. To try and recreate some of the stuff that Charles Barkley has done and he would have been very good at doing it and then his life fell apart because he accidentally took the life of someone else. It was a famous night that was at his mansion where he accidentally shot his limo driver while playing with guns and drinking and then the resultant cover up which had a lot of details in it. That are hard to listen to. Because he just an act of of what he describes now is cowardice he just was shocked and panicked and saw his life flash before his eyes and so he tried to cover it up. Jason Williams TMZ is not someone that I've heard a lot from since all of this happened to him. He went to prison for twenty seven months for everything that happened in this story. I've never heard him talk as honestly and as emotionally about this as he does in this interview he he is clearly a broken man trying to do some good work with what is left of what used to be his life helping people with addiction helping people with alcoholism so I think that this is the best South Beach Session that we have done in terms of richness of emotion and detail. And I'm looking forward to getting to it here but first here's Mike Ryan telling you a little bit about who sponsors South Beach sessions.
