"Welcome back to three points with Chris Mannix, the show where we tackle three of the biggest topics in the NBA each week. We are live on AMP. Well, there was a big deal in the NBA on Wednesday. You had Damian Lillard traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Phoenix Suns. They get a bunch of pieces in this deal. And the Miami Heat get nothing. Talk about that and every facet of this trade. I want to bring in Mark Medina, longtime NBA writer, Sporting Tribune, Fox Sports Radio does a great job for multiple different outlets. And Mark, let's start with the Milwaukee Bucks and what they're getting and how much, if at all, they are improved. They certainly get better offensively. Damian Lillard coming off a 32 point per game season. Defensively, you can say they take a step back. True holiday that they gave up in the trade. One of the best defensive wings in the NBA. Do you look at the Milwaukee Bucks as a team that got better and how much better did they get? Well, Chris, no doubt they got better. And how much better did they get? I think that they're not the definitive favorites to win the NBA championship. If I had to make a prediction, I would give it to them. I think that they have the best trio in the NBA right now with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard and Chris Middleton. And the reason why this deal was significant is not only are you getting Damian Lillard and his point guard savviness and his scoring mentality, but you're also in effect also securing that Giannis Antetokounmpo is with them for the long term because of his comments this offseason, the New York Times and elsewhere in different podcasts that he wants to see the Bucks continuing to go all in to win a championship. And so no doubt they had to give up, obviously, a really good talent. Drew Holliday, I think one of the most underrated defenders in the NBA, a great two way player. But I think when you add everything up, Damian Lillard will help them much more substantially, especially in their half court game. And I think the bigger part is it should erase any sort of uncertainty that Giannis could help head elsewhere. So you hit on the meatiest part about all this, the half court game, when the Bucks have been beaten in the playoffs over the last few years, even when they've come close to getting beaten, like the Nets series back in 2021, what's gone haywire for them is half court offense. They just have not had the personnel to be an efficient half court offensive team. Giannis is still very good in the half court, much better in transition, but very good in the half court. Chris Middleton, he could score. But Drew Holliday, for all his diverse talents, is not an elite half court offensive player. Damian Lillard is that Damian Lillard averaged 32 points per game last season. He shot 37 percent from three. He is a walking bucket. And if you put him and Giannis in the half court game in a two man game, you are going to ask teams to do the impossible defensively. You can ask them to choose between blitzing Damian Lillard and leaving Giannis with a free run to the basket or sagging off Lillard and giving one of the NBA's best shooters an open look at the bucket. That is just a that is Sophie's choice right there. You can't you can't expect a team to to do to defend that at a particularly high level. So, yeah, they got significantly better on the offensive end of the floor. The potential downfalls of this deal, you look at defense and yeah, there were top five defensive team in the NBA last season. They're going to take a step back because at the point of attack right now, they've got Lillard, they've got Chris Middleton, they've probably got Pat Conant in there. They don't have the defensive minded players that they once did. But I think a lot of those issues can be resolved by the back line, by the fact that Giannis, who, in addition to being an annual MVP candidate, great score, is annually one of the best defensive players in the NBA. Brook Lopez, who is ageless at this point, is consistently the last couple of years, has been in the mix for defensive player of the year. Bobby Portis, really good player coming off a tour with USA Basketball. More often than not, guys benefit from that. And they've got enough there, I think, to protect Lillard and protect some of those weaker defensive players in that backcourt. The other thing I've heard talked about a lot is depth and how much, how the Bucks lost some depth with the guys they traded, specifically Grayson Allen going out as part of that deal. I think that's an issue and one certainly worth talking about. But Conant, as I mentioned, still there. Jay Crowder is still there. Marshawn Beauchamp is still there. You can say Malik Beasley now in that mix, still there. So they've got a reasonable rotation. And I think when players become available after the trade deadline in February, Milwaukee is going to be in a prime position to sign one of them. So they're going to be able to flesh out that rotation before the start of the playoffs. So when I look at the weaknesses, yeah, there are some. There is a downside to acquiring Damian Lillard. But the upside to me is far more significant, don't you think? Oh, without a doubt. I mean, look, when you're making a monumental trade, you're going to have to trade something to get something. But I think that the point that you made that it's not like that they don't have great defensive reinforcements in the front court where they can funnel players to the basket so that they can stop them at the rim. That's number one. Number two, when you're looking at the way that Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Chris Middleton will score, I mean, we're running out of fingers here. You got Damian Lillard threes. You got Damian Lillard driving the basket. You got Giannis picking roles with him. You got Giannis post-ups. You have Chris Middleton being able to move off the ball with both of those two players showing a lot of attention. And so when he used the math formula, clearly the offense and number of points that they're generate is going to be substantially more than the points that they're going to give up, even when you account for what Drew Holliday did with his perimeter defense. And I think that perhaps is a preamble for both of us to beat up on Miami a little bit. This really illustrates why the Bucks were able to make this deal. They had a player that is worth of interest, a la Drew Holliday, to really make the engine of this trade work. But they also knew that they had depth to fall back on, that if they're making a deal, it's not like that they're going to get Damian Lillard with some top-heavy talent and no depth around him. And that's really what Miami encountered here, where clearly and understandably so, with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo not being part of these trade discussions. It was a matter of, okay, what else do we have in the cabinet to offer? And if we do offer enough of Tyler Herro and draft picks and any other role player, all of a sudden we don't have a complete roster. And so I think that just really captures why the trade happened this way, as opposed to, oh, Portland wasn't negotiating in good faith or anything like that. I think a key player now for Milwaukee is going to be Jay Crowder. Crowder was a non-factor for this team last year. And the question is, was that because Crowder missed the first half of the season sitting out in Phoenix? Or does it have more to do with Jay Crowder's 33 years old and doesn't have the legs that he once did? Now, both these things can be true, but at some point, Milwaukee is going to need players that can match up with the top perimeter wings in the Eastern Conference. They're gonna have to find a way to match up with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. They don't have anybody right now that jumps off the page and you say that's the guy that's going to be not the stopper, but at least deterrent to those types of players. Jay Crowder, at least to me, has the potential. I'm very interested to see what kind of shape Jay Crowder comes into camp as and what kind of role he has in Adrian Griffin's rotation. Because to me, Mark, he's going to be the guy, at least for right now, that they trot out there in defensive situations and say, you got to go make plays. Look, Jay Crowder, you know, certainly a flawed player, has become an inefficient three point shooter over the last couple of years, but he wins. The teams he goes to wins either high number of wins in the regular season, advancing deep in the playoffs, advancing multiple times to the finals. He has been a winner for most of his at least the second half of his career. I'm very interested to see what he has left moving forward because he is going to be, I think, a critical piece to all this. You know, if you're a news and political junkie, you kind of like seeing ads that run during a big event like tonight's debate. Emily Seidel is about to join us. And with that ad, we just wanted to share back what we're hearing from them in a way that hopefully calls on candidates on the debate stage tonight and lawmakers in Washington right now to focus on these issues, the issues that we're hearing matter most to Americans right now, and actually step forward with some solutions. That's what people are looking for. I've invited our audience to support Americans for Prosperity because your grassroots efforts are as impressive as anything I've ever seen. So far, Americans for Prosperity has talked to 4 .6 million voters through phone calls or just good old -fashioned door knocks. You know, I'm going to throw a curveball at you because you've been at this a long time. You've spent really decades working in policy and politics. I've been at this a long time as well as a broadcaster. I've never seen anything like this in terms of what appears to be the intentional destruction of our economy. And I want to pick your brain for a moment. Emily, I want to see if you agree with me that this does not seem to be accidental. Is it a stretch to say that these awful policies that are crushing small business owners, that are hurting farmers, that are hurting the middle class, do you think these are well -intentioned but misguided policies? Or is it indeed intentional damage? I mean, that's a great question. I like to hope that people run for public office to try to serve their communities and just make bad choices sometimes. But at this point, you really need to start asking. I mean, as we're talking to folks across the country, for instance, there's a 71 -year old man that we just talked to in Colorado who's retired, who has to come out of retirement to continue to be able to live, support his wife and his niece who lives with him. We had a grocery store event in Wisconsin where we were giving out $25 gift cards to the grocery store as we were talking to people about the cost of all of this rampant government spending that's been driving inflation and what they can do about it, what their voices can do to try to drive change in the public policy arena. And one woman said that because of that $25 gift card, she didn't have to choose between a portion of her grocery list and diapers for the week for her family. I think that's the most important thing. And I think that's very, very important to the people of the country and they're very frustrated. No, and that frustration, I hear it every single day on the show as well. Emily Seidel, who's the CEO of Americans for Prosperity, is visiting with us here on The Mike Gallagher Show. They're focused on listening for what the candidates will do to address the top concerns that they've got. They're wondering, is this crisis of affordability of life, is this the new normal? And so my advice to candidates would be to recognize that those are the people that you're talking to. Don't get distracted by all of the rest of this and focus on the failure of biodynamics and your solutions as candidates for public office to get back on track. You know, last cycle, I met this wonderful man up in Pennsylvania who said he was watching TV and he saw one of our commercials and he said, you know, I'm going to stop complaining to my friends about what's happening in our country. I'm going to get off my duff and do something about it. And he came and started knocking doors with Americans for Prosperity and AFP Action, which is a super PAC. Together, last cycle, we were in 457 races across the country. We knocked on more than 7 million doors. We reached tens of millions of voters through phone calls and emails and mail pieces. In health -related news and new this morning on WTOP Saturday a federal judge will not block the Biden administration's Medicare drug price negotiation program. This means that pharmaceutical companies will have to negotiate Medicare drug prices with the government itself. An Ohio judge has issued a ruling this week on Friday denying apparently a preliminary injunction sought by the US Chamber of Commerce. Now the chamber is one of the largest actual lobbying groups in the country and was hoping to block the price talks before were they set to begin on October 1st. Resident Joe Biden's inflation reduction act which passed on a line party vote last year gave Medicare the power to directly hash out drug prices with manufacturers for the first time in its nearly 60 -year history. It's hard to imagine doing any of it without a drink in hand, especially if you're new to sobriety or if you're facing your first ever sober travel. Going on vacation usually means relaxing and being carefree, and for many of us, relaxing meant excessive consumption of alcohol and or other substances. I was exactly the same way. Every trip I ever took was a drinking trip. I mean, honestly, everything I ever did was about drinking, whether it was a trip or not. But one of the greatest things about being sober is that my whole world expanded, and I mean that literally. I've gotten to travel the world, see beautiful places, have phenomenal experiences that I never could have done in my drinking life. When I was drinking, I would always talk about all the traveling I wanted to do, all the places I wanted to go and see, but I couldn't actually do any of it. I was a bit lucky because I lived in Southern California, and there are a lot of fun things you can do spur of the moment. And I promise you, I have had my fair share of last minute decisions drunken to drive to Vegas after work at 3 a .m. with all my drunk friends. But as a sober person, traveling is full of triggers, and that can feel daunting. And that's one of the main reasons I wanted to start hosting sober vacations. It's so much to think about if you're going on a work trip or a family trip where you may be the only non -drinking person. It's like every event every day comes with its own special side of anxiety as you obsess about getting through each thing without drinking, also without looking like a weirdo being the only one not drinking, and at the same time trying not to be overwhelmed by FOMO and somehow still manage to have some fun. Wow, sounds great, doesn't it? So my first sober vacation group trip is just around the corner, and the next sober vacation with me is in Bali in 2024. So I thought this would be the perfect time to do an episode about traveling and staying sober while you do it. So if you've got a vacation coming up or you're just thinking about traveling or you're traveling with me, here's my advice for taking an epic sober trip. Number one, this is not going to surprise you. If you've been following me for any length of time, you probably know this is going to be the first thing I'm going to say. Plan ahead. Okay, think about what parts of the trip will be most challenging. Will it be the packing, the planning, sitting at the airport, being on the plane, the layover, right? Think it through. What is going to be the most challenging part of the journey for you? And then create solutions for those hardest parts. And one thing you're going to hear me stress throughout this episode too is to do things differently. Okay, your brain makes thousands decisions of all day, every day. So it goes on autopilot a lot, right? Any things we do that are regular we're doing day in and day out, your brain will go on autopilot. Like when you drive to work. Have you ever had one of those moments you start your car and you go and all of a sudden you're at work and you don't really remember the drive because you're on autopilot and that helps your brain conserve energy. So when you're making changes in your life, it's hugely important to do things differently because it snaps you out of that autopilot mode so you don't end up with a drink in your hand. So think this through. Plan ahead. What's going to be your hardest part and then create solutions for the hardest part. Don't just do things on autopilot the way you've always done and then expect to have a different result. If you do everything exactly the way you've always done, you're going to end up with a drink in your hand if you're used to getting to the airport and having a drink in your hand. So do things differently and think this through for when you get there. Also, do you have a hard time in the evening at dinner or is it lunch time? If it's lunch time because you're usually laying on the beach getting your food and drinks served to you, then don't just lay there on the beach like you did in your drinking life. Get up, go for a walk, schedule a surfing lesson, take your own drinks with you. Whatever you need to do, just do it differently. If it's dinner time, schedule an activity for early the next morning so you have something to look forward to and a reason to go back to your room and go to bed early. Do it differently but think through those pieces of the journey. What is going to be most challenging for you and create some solutions for those time frames? And we're going to talk about some of those solutions moving forward. The next one is the flight part. Be prepared to fly. Airports and airplanes are full of potential triggers from long security lines to the liquor they serve during the flight. Try to distract yourself from temptation along the way, right? Buy a yummy coffee or some kind of fruit drink or something after you go through security. Get a treat to make you happy and take your mind off a drink. For me, it's gummies. I'm gummy obsessed. I can buy a bag at the airport. I can keep them handy. I can munch on them while I'm walking around the airport shopping or while I'm working, waiting for my flight. And one of the biggest things that saves me in this whole travel journey and I've traveled a ton. So I'm not super triggered by traveling. I'm an introvert. I just get quiet. I go inside my head in my own little world and I can do it pretty easily. But one of my saving graces is earbuds, right? Put your earbuds in. Take out a good book. Play a game. Listen to podcasts. Listen to music. Anything to keep you occupied throughout the duration of your journey. But be prepared. What is that going to look like? Again, know what the most difficult parts of your journey are going to be and make sure you have things in place to get you through those times. For on the flight, this is the next one. Make an in -flight toolkit. And this is a lot of things I just rattled off. Being on the airplane has its own special brand of triggers, because it's really stressful. It takes a long time, especially if you are impatient and judgy and you're sitting there watching everything everybody does, just tearing them down and being mad that people are taking so long and they're not doing it the way you would do it and the way you think is right. If that's where your thoughts are, listen, you're going to be irritated. Also, the other part of in -flight is airplanes are essentially a giant bar flying through the sky. And if you previously relied on drinks to get you through the airport and or the flight, then I definitely recommend making an airplane toolkit, especially if it's a long flight. You can sleep on planes, then bring the stuff that will make you comfortable to sleep on the plane. Research the best neck pillow and get it. Maybe you already have it, so don't forget it. Take a really good eye mask to block out the brightness of the plane. Also creating some privacy, right? I think all of us know when you look at your neighbor and they've got their earbuds in and an eye mask on, you're not going to be talking to that person and trying to carry on conversation, right? But if you are a person that's an extrovert and you want to chat it up, you want to talk to the people around you, then don't put in your earbuds and put on your eye mask yet. But have your pillow, if it's super long flight, have some compression socks, have plenty of food and snacks in your bag. Have your tablet, you know, an iPad full of books or movies or tv shows. I always take my favorite thermal water cup. It goes with me everywhere in my life and I take it when I travel also. Obviously it's empty. I throw it in my carry -on duffel bag and when the flight attendants come offering drinks, I just hand her my water cup and say, can I get some water? And they fill my water cup, I'm good to go. I also always plan on in wi -flight -fi. I just plan on it. I don't care about the expense. I get a lot of work done when I'm flying because I'm a captive audience, right? There's nothing else. It's not like when I'm at home in my office, like where there's a million distractions and things to do and it's like, oh, let me cook this or start some laundry or make this phone call or take a lunch break, right? When I'm on a flight, I'm captive and that is a beautiful time to get a ton of work done. So I just plan on getting the in -flight wi -fi. I don't care if it's ten dollars for the day or whatever. I'm just doing it. Also, when I have wi -fi, I can log on to any of my streaming services and watch my favorite stuff or I can go on YouTube and put on one of my favorite long podcasts, right? There's all kinds of podcasters that have these super long podcasts like Huberman who I love, right? Huberman Lab. His stuff is like two freaking hours long, but that's a great thing to do in a flight. I've got my earbuds in, log on to YouTube. I can start a Huberman or Lewis Howes or Jay Shetty and I can listen to that while I work and do my thing. Earbuds, earbuds, earbuds. I also take my iPad and I have my favorite game on my iPad. I love playing match 3D and I just went to Phoenix a couple of weeks ago. It was brilliant. I went to see my best friend and his family and it was the first time I ever like took my iPad to play my game, but it was amazing, especially when you're sitting in your seat and you're waiting for everybody else to board. All that impatient judginess I was talking about, distract yourself from that. Don't put yourself in a bad mood or cause yourself unnecessary stress or create a bunch of negative thinking. It's just not worth it. It's dumb. It's pointless. It's a waste of your energy. So I just sat there and opened up my iPad and I played match 3D and that's what I did and it was perfect, especially until we took off and then I got on my computer and whatever.

This is the part of the podcast where I ask our guests, which is yourself, a little bit about yourself, where you've been, where you're at, where you're heading before we get into it. So where I've been 25 years on the business side of games. So a bit of a background. I started out as an agent, did some of the very first publishing deals for Paradox and the People Can Fly, Starbreeze, did that for a little while. Then we transitioned that into a casual game publisher, which I ran the acquisitions and built the distribution network for, did that for about three more years and left to start what we would now call a production firm, but a production studio. But back then, no one knew what that was. So developers thought we were publishers and publishers thought we were developers, and we were truthfully just in the middle of coordinating everything. Did that for three years, and then I founded the Powell Group. And so there's two sides of my world now. One is the Powell Group consulting side, which we do everything from helping developers find publishers to scouting games for publishers and investors and doing audits on projects. Basically, if it revolves around the business side of the industry, we do something with it. But then my pride and joy is indie game business, which we started probably five years ago at this point. That just had years of frustration with no one teaching developers how to do business and finally just said, okay, never mind, I'll do it myself. And with the help of Dan, aka Indie, on Twitch, we started a small little Twitch channel that every week we sat down and did interviews or sessions or Q &A talking about the business, the marketing, the licensing side of things. And then that grew into a big Discord channel. We've got close to 6 ,000 industry professionals in that now. And we turned the Twitch channel into a podcast, which made everything even bigger. Economists worry that a shutdown could harm global commerce still recovering from from the pandemic trade with Pacific Rim nations for forms an important part of Seattle's economy, friends and colleagues from Washington and around the country are remembering Senator Diane Feinstein today. Maria Cantwell was first elected to the Senate in 2000. By that time, Feinstein had already been there for almost a decade. Cantwell, looked who up to Feinstein as a role model, had this to recall this morning of her first experiences with the senior senator from California. I was amazed and astounded at what I might call the polite pushiness of Diane Feinstein. I don't know how she did it, but serving on the Judiciary Committee with her and Dick will observe when Diane's time ran out and somebody tried to cut in and debate her. Diane had this way of saying, Mr. Chairman, this is a really important point and I just need to make this point. And the would chairman let Diane go on for another five minutes. And I thought how does she pull this off? Diane Feinstein was 90 years old, but the death while still serving at the age of 90 has renewed concerns about how many of America's politicians have become so elderly. Northwest News Radio's Pojola Jeff has that part of the story. Republican strategist Randy Pepple says Feinstein's effectiveness had in recent months. Senator Feinstein was basically a creature of her staff and had very little independent decision making going on. And that's sad. think, And I unfortunately, that's going to be part of her legacy. But Democratic strategist Kathy Allen says there's a double standard at this point. They may not want Joe Biden to run again or Donald Trump. But the fact is, is that Diane who gets the pressure to step down. But both Randy and Kathy agree that too many of America's leaders are simply too old. The state Supreme Court decided in a five to four ruling that Governor Jay Inslee's order to prevent evictions and rent raises during the pandemic was lawful. Governor Inslee issued the eviction moratorium at to help tenants stay in housing during the health crisis. Landlords in Centralia sued, saying the order violated their property rights that exceeded the governor's emergency powers. The state Supreme Court sided with lower courts that was it indeed lawful. A highlight from Eric Diaz's Journey From the University of Georgia to Coaching Rising American Alex Michelsen
"Welcome to the official tennis .com podcast featuring professional coach and community leader Kamau Murray. Welcome to the tennis .com podcast. We are here with Eric Diaz. You remember the name? Eric is son of Manny Diaz, coach of Alex Mickelson, Werner Tan, and right now has his own thing called tier one performance out in the Irvine area. Welcome to the show, Eric. How's it going? Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. It's great to be on. Great to be on. So I interviewed your dad probably about 2 months ago. That was, you know, we were poking fun about him redshirting Ethan Quinn, you know, not choosing not to play Ethan Quinn later. You know he wins NCAA the next year. It was kind of like, what were you thinking, right? Yeah, one of those tough ones. Oh yeah, it was kind of like, did you think he wasn't ready? Was he, did he think he wasn't ready? Like, you know, you probably could have won NCAA twice. That kind of thing but you obviously came from good tennis pedigree. So, I guess the first obvious question was what was it like growing up with your dad being Manny? You know, because I, it's hard not to take work home, right? Let's just put it that way. You're a tennis coach and a child of a tennis dad. Yeah. You know, I don't know. I think anybody that's been in tennis for a long time knows it's kind of a lifestyle a little bit. You know, there's definitely being the tennis coach and kind of, you know, working toward things but it's also, I don't know, the sport takes so much of you that sometimes, you know, it just feels like, you know, it's second nature. It's kind of a part of it. So, I mean, growing up in Athens, growing up around Dan McGill Complex was always a treat. That was back when NCAA's were kind of always hosted in Athens. So, I got to watch, you know, all the college greats. I grew up watching the Bryan brothers get, you know, sadly then they were kind of pegging some of our guys in doubles matches but, you know, it was really cool being able to sit court side, watch those guys and then, you know, be able to watch them on TV a little bit later. Really cool. Really cool experience growing up. Now, from a junior career, did your dad coach you your whole career or did he hire private coaches to sort of teach you technique? Because I know, you know, coaching at a program like UGA, it is very demanding and sometimes the children of the tennis coach lose out to the actual players and the people who are paying. So, did he coach you? How was that? You know, he coached me. I think he tried to coach me but at the same time, he also didn't want to put too much pressure on me to like, you know, really play tennis and go in. So, he kind of let it be my own thing. I started, I actually went to Athens Country Club, great little spot on the outside of Athens. Alan Miller was the main coach there. So, he helped me out a lot. He actually, he was on my dad's first, you know, assistant coaching team where they won a national title. I think he paired with Ola who now obviously has been with USGA for a while. I think they played doubles and I think they won a doubles title as well. So, I think Alan was a part of the first team championship and then he was also, you know, he won a doubles title there too. I think he might have won two. So, I spent a lot of time around him which was also, it was really cool. You know, it was a guy who was a part of the Georgia tennis family. Athens is really tight -knit like that and so it's special to be a part of that family both, I guess, through blood and through, you know, the alumni. It's cool. Now, let me ask you, did you ever consider going anywhere else, right? I mean, successful junior career, one of the top players in the nation, tons of options. You know, it could be like, you know, there's always sort of the, oh, his dad's going to give him a scholarship, right? You saw with Ben Shelton, you know, Brian Shelton. Obviously, he's going to look out for his kid. Did you ever aspire to like go to another top program or UCLA or Texas or Florida? I think growing up, you know, because I got to see all those teams play. You know, I remember in 1999, I looked up this guy who, he played number one for UCLA. I don't know, this guy showed up. I'm a little kid and he had half of his head was blue and the other half was gold and, you know, UCLA was firing it up. They were really good at the time. I remember that was my dad's first national title in 99. And, you know, ever since then, I really, you know, I looked up to the guys. Every now and then, I got to sneak on to a little travel trip and, you know, I got to see what it was like. But, I mean, for me, it was always Georgia. I thought Athens was a special place, you know, getting to see the crowds that they get there and being able to kind of just see the atmosphere of everybody caring about each other. You know, it was cool looking at other teams. You know, the Brian brothers had the cool Reebok shoes, you know, the UCLA guy with the different hair. But at the end of the day, it was always the dogs. It was always Georgia. So, I was really lucky when I got to be a part of that team and I got to kind of wear the G that, you know, through my junior years, I was always wearing it, you know, but I guess it was a little bit different when you're actually, you know, on the team and representing. I think it's a different feeling. Yeah. So, if you didn't go into tennis, what else would you be doing? Like, you know, I didn't, you know, I'm obviously coaching now, but I didn't go right into coaching. I went to work into pharmaceuticals like marketing, sales, you know, finance. It's always, I always find it interesting to say if I wasn't coaching, I got my degree, I would be doing this. Yeah. You know, if I was a little bit more prone, I think to just loving schoolwork and loving studying, you know, everybody's always told me that I would make a pretty good lawyer just because I'm a bit of a contrarian. I like to argue. I like to challenge everybody that's kind of around me. So, I'm always looking for a good argument. So, I'll go with that. Everybody's always told me, you know, maybe you should have been a lawyer. You argue a Hey, lot. well, I'm sure, I'm sure your tennis parents, right? The parents of the academy probably don't like that one, right? They like to be in control. They have the last say and be contrarian. A lot of the time they do. A lot of the time they do. Yeah. So, you're sort of like stepping out, right? Out of the shadow and you're now on the west coast out there in the with Irvine area tier one performance and quite honestly, making your own name. I know you've had opportunity to coach Alex Mickelson as well as, you know, Lerner, Tan who are both like doing real well, both like main draw this year at US Open. Tell me about the process of moving way west. Yeah. And starting your own thing. Well, you know, it kind of started with, you know, I took that leap and I moved away from home for, you know, the first time because obviously being born and raised and going to school at UGA. I took my first chance and I went to Boise State and I worked under Greg Patton for a year who I'd heard great things about and, you know, all were true. He's a great guy. I thought it was a fantastic experience. So, I did that for a year and then over the summer, the UGA swim coach's son that I kind of grew up with, he was in Newport and so I kind of came to visit and then, you know, all of a sudden the opportunity to be coaching out here, you know, came about and, you know, I did my due diligence a little bit. You know, I looked at the old tennis recruiting pages and, you know, I'm looking at all the talent over the last like 20 years and, you know, statistically, you look at the list and you're like, okay, you know, if I'm in this area and I give myself, you know, the right opportunities and I, you know, learn how to coach properly, you know, I feel like I've had some pretty good experience from some good mentors. You know, then I kind of thought, you know, okay, maybe I can kind of control my own destiny out here a little bit and, you know, over time, it's taken a lot but, you know, over time, I feel like I did get myself some pretty decent opportunities. So, when you first laid eyes on Mickelson, how old was he? He was 12. He was coming out to some point place. It was the first place I kind of rented courts. It was this old rundown beat up club but beautiful. There were some trees there. Nobody wanted it. The courts were kind of run down and everyone's like, oh no, nothing there and I was like, I'll take it. So, you know, it gave me space. It gave me courts. It gave me the ability to kind of try and market. I made things cheap so I could get a lot of kids out there and try and get a competitive environment going and luckily, you know, had a good bit of talent out there where, you know, the kids kind of attracted the kids and I was this young coach, 23, 24 and, you know, over time, you know, people started to kind of gain trust and realize, you know, this guy isn't that bad. So, you know, over time, it kind of, you know, worked in my favor and, you know, everything kind of worked out. I eventually switched clubs to a nicer one and, you know, you move up. You earn your stripes. Now, when you saw him, did you initially see, you know, like super talent because he won our ADK this summer and, you know, it was full of Steve Johnson, Su -Woo Kwong. It was Ethan Quinn. It was other names, right? Kanee Shakuri. And Alex, okay, you know, he got the USTA wildcard. He's a young kid. You know what I mean? Like, sort of under the radar and then he wins the whole tournament in finals Newport on the grass like a week later. So, did you see it right away? Was he like a typical kind of 12 -year -old throwing his racket, having tantrums? What was he like at 12? Alex has always turned on tantrums. But, you know, when he was 12, he was good. But, you know, I'll be honest, there were a handful of kids out there that, you know, Kyle Kang, who's had a lot of success. I saw him. Sebastian Goresney, who Alex won doubles with. There were a handful of others and, I mean, Alex, they were, he was good. If I thought that he would be this good, you know, at this point, I think I'd I don't think I saw that. But, you know, you definitely see that this kid's capable of playing at a pretty good level while he's young. And then, you know, as the years kind of go and then as you sort of see him and his personality kind of develop, you kind of recognize, you know, this, you know, this isn't too normal of a 16, 17, 18 -year -old kid. And then, you know, sure enough, eventually the results followed, which was pretty fun to watch. Yeah, I mean, I felt it was interesting because he was here with like his friend. Yeah. You know, not even like a coach, trainer, physio, nothing. Like him and his homeboy. Yeah. He didn't look like he played tennis. You know what I mean? So, yeah, it was like, it was interesting to show up without, you know, completing against guys who are here with like coaching that they're paying six -figure salaries and who are scouting, right? And for him to kind of move through the draw, honestly, I mean, you know, maybe he split sets once. Yeah. It was actually really interesting. He's an extremely competitive kid. And so, you know, throughout the last few years kind of as we've traveled to some events and as he's gone to some like by himself, you know, the whole understanding is, okay, how well do you really understand, you know, your day -to -day process? How well are you able to, you know, nowadays, you know, with challengers, everything you can stream, you can watch. So, you know, both myself and, you know, Jay, the other coach that's here and helping him out, you know, we watch, we communicate. But, you know, at the end of the day, you know, it was one of those big decisions, okay, are you going to go to college or are you going to go pro? And he's kind of weighing those two things. And it's, you know, if you really think you want to be a pro, show me. And so it's one of those things, luckily, when he's young, you know, you have the, you know, it's kind of freedom. If he loses some matches, okay, you're young. If, you know, you win some matches, okay, great. You're young. So it's one of those things where, you know, we really kind of wanted to see, you know, what he's able to do sort of on his own. How well can he manage emotionally? How well can he, you know, create some game plans and stick to his day -to -day routines? And he, I would say he passed. And did he officially turn pro? He officially turned pro, yeah. Yeah. So I know UGA was going to be where he was going. I know he was undecided this summer, but UGA was going to, was there a little bit of an inside man kind of happening here, right? You know, I mean, you know, I think that, you know, I'll definitely say, I think he had some exposure to hearing about, you know, some Georgia greatness. I think that for sure. But, you know, I'll say it was his decision. Ultimately, I tried to not put too much pressure or expectation on where he was going to go. You know, I think Georgia has a lot to offer. So I think, you gone that route, I think it would be, you know, I don't think we can really fail if, you know, you're going and you're trying to be a tennis player and that's a place you choose. I think it's a pretty good place. Now tell us about Lerner Tan. I'll admit as a player that I hadn't had the opportunity to watch too much. I had not watched him in the challenges at all. But was he also sort of in the program at a young age or did he just sort of come later on? My partner actually, you know, kind of helped him when he was young because Levitt Jay used to be incorporated at Carson, which was kind of where Lerner kind of had his, you know, beginnings. He was a little bit more, I guess I'll say, you know, his talent was Federation spotted, I guess you could say as to where Alex was kind of, you know, the guy on the outside a little figuring his own way. Lerner was kind of the guy that everybody kind of thought was, you know, the guy. Right. And so, you know, it's been fun kind of watching him, you know, see his transition, you know, from juniors to now, you know, kind of becoming, you know, the top of juniors, you know, winning Kalamazoo the last two years and his transition. It's been fun to see. So, you know, I've seen a lot of him out of the last, you know, two and a half to three years. So it's been, it's definitely been a different transition. I feel like, you know, it's a little bit fire and ice there. You know, Alex is the fiery one screaming a good bit and Lerner is the silent killer. So it's, they're definitely different, which I think, you know, is pretty refreshing and it's kind of cool to see them both have success in their own accord. So tell us about Tier 1 then. So how many courts, obviously you grew up, I mean, like, you know, I started in the park years ago, right? In Chicago Park, right? And now I got 27 courts. But tell us about Tier 1 performance now. Where are you? How many courts do you now have? How many kids are you serving? Yeah, we're in Newport Beach right now, which is great. Weather's nice. We have, right now, we're running our program out of only five ports. It's not that big. You know, we take a lot of pride in just kind of being individually, you know, development based. I feel like if you're in our program, you're going to have, you know, a good bit of time from the coaches. You're probably going to have a chance to hit with some of the top guys. We try to be really selective with who we kind of have. Just because in Southern California, it's really difficult to, you know, get your hands on a ton of courts. There's so many people in tennis. There's only a few clubs now. You know, pickleball, even at our club right now, you know, pickleball is booming. You know, so many people are playing. It's keeping clubs alive, which, you know, I think is nice. But at the same time, I would love to see, you know, a lot of tennis courts and tennis opportunity. But, you know, it is what it is. Yeah, man, pickleball is definitely taking over. You see clubs getting rid of one court, two courts, and they think that it's not that big of an impact. But I mean, two courts really makes a difference in terms of being able to spread kids out, get them more time, get more balls and more balls at the time. But it's, you know, I think in tennis, if we want to fight them off, we've got to market better and we've got to grow, right? They're in this growth sort of stage and we're sort of stagnant, you know, so it's not like we're not leaving the club with a lot of choices other than to diversify, you know what I mean? Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. So, let me ask you that. So, you've obviously had two kids that are going on. What do you tell that next parent, whose kid's 14, right, may get to see learner Alex come to the academy and number one, they want to homeschool, right, or ask you whether or not they should homeschool or B, you know, whether or not they should choose to go to college or, you know, turn pro. How are you advising parents? Because I get the question all the time. Should we homeschool, right? Should we do whatever? And I always, you know, the answer is always, it depends. Yeah. But what would be your answer in terms of homeschooling to train? Well, look, I definitely think that if your primary goal is to be a tennis player and I think, you know, if you're an athlete and that's kind of what you want to do, I think there's a lot of benefit in homeschooling just because, you know, it enables you to travel. You know, if I get to the ITF level, you know, I need to be able to travel. Those tournaments start on Monday and they go through Friday. So, you know, if I'm in a regular school, if I'm a high school kid, you know, that's a pretty difficult life for me to be able to justify or to, you know, be able to get my excused absences and stuff like that. You know, we're definitely big. You know, if you show me a 14 and under kid and I feel like I had pretty good experience in this just because I saw a lot of kids from the age of 12 to 14, you know, I got to see an entire kind of generation out of SoCal and a lot of them were pretty good. You know, the one thing I think, you know, when you're 12, 13, 14 years old, I think the primary thing kind of for level, obviously it matters how you're doing it, but I think the primary thing is the repetition. You know, I saw a ton of kids where they had a bunch of practices and I knew that that kid probably, you know, had 30%, 40 % more time than some of the other kids. And, you know, sure enough, that kid is more competent at keeping the ball in play. You know, they're able, you know, they've just seen and touched more balls. So, you know, they're going to make more balls. I think it's a balance. I think it really depends on the parents. I think it really depends on the kid. And I think it depends on the environment that they'll be in if they are going to be homeschooled. You know, I will say that, you know, we've had a handful of kids kind of switch from high school to homeschooled and they're in our program. But I feel like there's still strong social aspects in our program. You know, all the boys are tight. They compete a lot. They, you know, I feel like they get their social, you know, they go to lunch. And just kind of our standards are really high. I think this past year we had five kids that graduated that all went to IVs. So, you know, it's totally possible whether you're homeschooled or whether you're in school, I think, to, you know, kind of pursue academic excellence. I think, you know, just because you're doing one thing and not the other, I don't think that that necessarily, you know, takes that away from you. I think tennis can open a ton of doors. And I think I kind of, you know, we've kind of seen that in the last few years. I've seen a lot more tennis kids choosing IV ever since 2020, I feel. I feel like the IVs have been pretty hot, especially for some blue chip players, which I think, you know, if you look prior to 2020, I think the percentages took a pretty drastic jump, which is interesting to see. Yeah, you know, it's funny, you know, in some markets you see people playing for the scholarship and in some other markets you see them playing for entrance, right, into the Princeton, the Harvards. And one of the myths, like, I think if you think about basketball or football, right, the better basketball football players are obviously choosing the SEC, right, Pac -12, whatever that is. But in tennis, you know, I think that, you know, your academics and your tennis have to be, like, at the top scale to go, just because you're not like a bad tennis player if you go to Harvard, you know what I mean? Like, the kid that goes to Harvard or makes the team probably could have gone to PCU, right, or Florida or whatever, you know what I mean? And so it is interesting to see the number of people who say, yes, I've spent 30 grand on tennis for the past eight years and I'm still willing to pay for college, right, because I got into Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc. But I think it's a big myth where, you know, the United States is so basketball focused, we see Harvard basketball as, like, okay, that's everyone that didn't get chosen by the Illinois, the Wisconsin, the Michigan. And it's not the same, you know what I mean? Yeah, it's different for sure. So when you think about, like, the Ivies, right, you see a lot of kids go to East Coast and you think about, you know, COVID obviously changed something with the home school, you know, sort of situation. People who never considered that it was possible were like, okay, well, we've been living at home for a year and a half and doing online studies, it's not that bad, you know, they're more focused with their time. Did you see more people from families who you thought would not have done it try it post COVID? Yeah, definitely. I think the really popular thing that a lot of people are doing now is kind of a hybrid schedule, which I actually really like a lot. At least in California, I don't know if the schooling system is different everywhere else. I know it was different where I was from. But a lot of these kids, you know, they'll go to school from 8 to 1130 or 8 to 12. And, you know, they have their three hours where, you know, I don't know how they stagger their classes and stuff like that. But I know that pretty much every kid at every school in SoCal is at least able to do this if they so choose. And so they're able to get released around 12 or something. And, you know, they're able to be at afternoon practice and get a full block in. You know, for me, that still enables you to get the hours you need on court and to be able to maintain some of that social. And, you know, if you become, you know, really, really good, I guess, okay, by junior year, maybe you could consider, okay, maybe I should take this a little bit more seriously, maybe I should go full time homeschool. Or, you know, a lot of these kids are in a place where it's, you know, I'm comfortable with my tennis, I like where it's at, I feel like it'll give me opportunity in college. My grades are great. And, you know, maybe that person's a little more academically inclined. And, you know, they want to have a career and they feel like tennis is that great stepping stone. Which I think is a really cool thing about our sport is it just opens a tremendous amount of doors. I feel like if you figure out how to develop and be a good tennis player and how to compete well in tennis, you can you can apply that to almost everything in life. Yeah. So you talk about opening doors, right? When Alex or Lerner were sort of deciding whether to walk through door number one, which is college, or door number two, which is which is obviously turning pro. Right. How did you advise them? You know what I mean? If I say, hey, you know what? Take a couple wildcards. If you went around or two, maybe you go to college. If you win a tournament, maybe you stay out there. If an agency locks you into a deal, right? Then, you know, they normally know what good looks like and they normally have like the ear of the Nike, the Adidas, right? Then you turn pro. What was your advice in terms of if and when, right? Yeah. For those who ask. Well, they were both in different places. I'm gonna start with Lerner cuz he's younger. He actually, you know, did a semester in college. You know, Lerner finished high school, I think, when he was sixteen, sixteen and a half. And so, obviously, your eligibility clock starts, you know, six months after you finish your high school. So, for him, it was, you know, he was so young, he didn't really have much pro experience at that time. You know, he did great things in juniors. You know, he won Kalamazoo. He got his wild card into the men's that year and then, you know, he played a little bit of pro kind of and then, you know, that that January, he went in and and did a semester at USC which I think was a good experience for him socially. He had some eligibility problems which, you know, only let him play about five, six matches toward the end of the year which was kind of disappointing and then, you know, he won Kalamazoo again and so, you know, that was the second trip there and then, you know, by then, he had a little bit more exposure with, you know, agencies and brands and kind of, you know, the stuff that you'd like to see that'll actually give you the financial security to kind of, you know, chase your dream and pass up, you know, the the education, I guess, for the time being. So, you know, I felt like that was really the security was a big was a big thing for him. You know, prior to winning Kalamazoo for the second time, you know, he still had Junior Grand Slams to play. He wasn't playing men's events. So, for him being that age, you know, it was, well, you know, I'm I'm not in a massive rush so why not get a semester in and I think he had a great time. He really liked it. I mean, he he speaks pretty positively about the dual matches. He actually follows college tennis now a little bit more. You know, he will talk about some dual matches which I think is pretty cool and you know, I think it gave him some confidence getting to play for university, getting to represent, you know, seeing that university promotes you. I think there's a lot of benefits there and now, you know, he's got an alumni base. You know, people talk about all, you know, he's a USC Trojan and stuff like that. You know, you see it at all different tournaments. You know, guys are wearing a USC hat and, you know, hey, learner, da da da and you know, I think that that's pretty cool to be a part of, you know, a big family of people who are proud that, you know, they can say they played in the same place and then Alex. Alex was, you know, he was a little old for his grade and he was one that he committed and, you know, the whole time him and learner kind of, you know, talking and, you know, about going pro and da da da da. You know, obviously, it was their dream. You know, I just kept telling Alex, you know, I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear it until, you know, it's a real problem and so, you know, he gets to 400 in the world and, you know, it's what you do. You get to 400. You know, it's good but at the end of the day, you know, you're not, your life's not changing because you're 400 in the world. You know, so he's 400 in the world and he's, you know, saying stuff to me and I'm like, I could not care less you're going to college and then it was, you know, this was probably in January, February, you know, he starts to kind of do a little bit better and I think at that point, I recognized that he was better than a lot of the guys kind of at the challenger level. You know, just from my perspective, I was seeing kind of what it was, what it was to be 300, what it was to be 200 and I think at that point, like February, March, I fully knew that he was good enough to be there and to be winning those matches but at the same time, you know, having financial security, having set, you know, all of those factors that kind of go into whether I'm going to pass up my education and go pro. You know, it's a big decision and so I remember we were putting it off. I just said, you know, nothing till US Open. I was like, we're not, we're not talking about college till US Open. I said, you know, when we get to US Open, you finish US Open, you have that exposure, you know, we see what happens in those two weeks and then, you know, then we'll kind of make a decision but until then, like, don't even think about it. Don't talk about it. Don't care. You're going to school and I think that mentality really helped him kind of just play free. He was, you know, I'm not playing to go pro. I'm trying to do my job in school, finish my high school. I'm going to tournaments, playing great, just trying to compete and, you know, lucky for him, you know, well, I guess it's not lucky at all. That kid worked his absolute tail off but, you know, he had that success in Chicago at your club and then, you know, he made that little Newport run and I think by then, that was his third or fourth former top 10 win and, you know, he won his challenger. He final the challenger. He'd semied another one. He had kind of shown and, you know, some people have gotten attention and they started believing in him and so then, you know, that's when that big decision kind of came but I feel like for him, he really established himself, improved himself amongst pros which I think is an interesting thing because a lot of the time when you see these juniors kind of go pro sub 18, a lot of the time, it's because they had tremendous junior success which then made them, you know, they had grand slam success and stuff like that but Alex didn't have any of that. You know, Alex was kind of the late bloomer that, you know, in the last year when he was already 18 and aged out of ITF, the kid really just took it to a new level and, you know, I think he really showed that he's kind of ready for what the tour has to offer.

"Ladies and gentlemen, looking for something new and original, something unique and without equal, look no further. Here comes the one and only Eric Mataxas. Folks, welcome. I've spoken previously on this program to our friend Rabbi Jason Sobol, who has certain many books. The new one is called Signs and Secrets of the Messiah. And last time, Rabbi, you were telling us some of these amazing correlations between the Old and the New Testament and the Jewishness of the New Testament, which people should know, but sometimes they forget how profoundly the New Testament is a commentary on the Old Testament and points us back and how the Old Testament points us forward over and over. And last time you talked about the paralytic or the man who was unable to walk for 38 years. And you said that that relates to the Israelites wandering in the desert for 38 years, and you explained about how they had been prepared by God for two years, but then they wandered for 38 years. I just find that kind of stuff so fascinating. So I know the new book is called Signs and Secrets of the Messiah. What other things like that do you mention in Signs and Secrets of the Messiah? I mean, we get into so many miracles and, you know, God is in the details, right? So if there's a detail in the Bible, it's there for a reason. So, you know, again, the first miracle we talked about last time I was with you is the first miracle we talked about in Signs and Secrets, which is the water into wine. Well, there's a detail there. It says that he said fill six stone pots to the brim. Well, the question is, if it says six stone pots, what's the significance that there's six stone pots? Why not seven? Why not eight? Well, some of the significance there is that we have to understand there's a lot. Man was created on the sixth day. In Jewish thought, we fell on the sixth day. When Jesus comes and he gives his life for us on the cross, OK, he dies on Friday, which is the sixth day of the week. He dies on a cross. Why? Because the first man and woman stole from the tree. So God puts Jesus, who Paul calls the second Adam, back on the tree for you and me with the crown of thorns on his head. Why? What's the sign of the curse of creation? The ground produced thorns and thistle. He takes the curse on his head to break it and restore the blessing. And so when Jesus dies on the same day man was created and fell and he does his first miracle with six stone pots, he's saying, I am restoring the fruitfulness that was lost at creation. And I don't want you to any more live out of the lack, but to live out of the overflow. And by the way, the number six in Hebrew is written with the letter Bob. It's the conjunction and it's a letter that connects heaven and earth. When we sin, we broke the connection. Jesus comes back to restore it, that we might experience his blessing. That is some heavy stuff that is absolutely amazing. Say that again about the letter when you write the number six in Hebrew, talk about that again, because I want to make sure I catch that. Yeah, absolutely. So Hebrew is alphanumeric. So there's no Roman numerals in the Bible. Both Hebrew and Greek have an alphanumeric component, meaning that if I say open up the chapter one in your Bible, I'll say open up to chapter Aleph, because it's the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet has a numerical value of one. The sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the Hebrew letter of love. It's the most used letter in the five books of Moses, and it's the conjunction. And the first place the letter of love occurs in the Bible is in the first verse of the Bible, Genesis one, one. And in Hebrew, there are seven words in Genesis one, one corresponding to the seven days of creation. The sixth word of Genesis one begins with the sixth letter. God created the heavens. That's the fifth. And that's the sixth. And Earth is seven. When we sin, we broke the vow, the letter, the number six, the letter Bob that connects heaven and earth. When Jesus dies on Friday and does the miracle with the six stones pots, he's restoring the connection and the blessing that was lost in the beginning.

"Because I'm very much of the mindset that as soon as something becomes a grind or feels too much like work, like hard work when it shouldn't be that hard, I need to switch something up. So I would say the biggest thing I struggle with today is just I've got a pretty good formula for my questions. I got a pretty good cadence for my show and I try to mix it up, but I struggle with how much should I mix it up for myself and my listeners more than keeping it the same and kind of just asking the same things robotically. And if you do 10 episodes a week saying the same thing over and over again, you're just like, man, this is we've got to mix something up here. And I actually just a quick plug to my friend, Els Kramer, runs an awesome podcast. And she was talking about she has these index cards and she basically has a bunch of topics on them. It's money like or success or hobbies or whatever. And she kind of shuffles them up and then we'll like randomly ask them those questions throughout after mixing them in. And I could see how it broke up the monotony of a normal interview for her because she would go, OK, tell me what your thoughts are on money. Right. And it's just like a random thing to throw into an interview. And it really did help her mix up some of those questions. So I think that would be my biggest struggle today is keeping it fresh for myself. Awesome. All right. So the last question is, if somebody's listening and they're not as far along in their journey as you are, what would be your best advice for success in a podcast that maybe we haven't covered today? I talked about a little bit, but use tools. Descript is a great tool. Descript saves a lot of time. But use people like Adam, use people like you. If you're serious about doing the podcast, the production will weigh on you eventually. If you do enough episodes, it doesn't matter how short they are. It doesn't matter how quick you think your process is going to be. It drags on and it's a lot. And if you have close to 100 episodes in the bank like I do, it gets to be a lot. The production is a lot. So delegate, find a team, find an agency, find a freelancer, find a somebody to hand some of that work off to. So you don't just grind down. And it also helps with your cadence. Like you were just mentioned, I just went on vacation and for the first time I had four episodes released and I didn't have to do anything. I didn't have to touch them. I didn't have to download the raw files on my computer. I didn't do anything. The descriptions, the titles, the artwork, the editing, the posting, the sharing on social media. Everything was done because I learned how to delegate that to my team that I have already for my company. And so I would say hire somebody to help you. You're buying your time back. I'm a big proponent of that anyway. If you're considering this a serious sales channel for your business, I would buy your time back by hiring somebody to do the work for you so you can go out and do more episodes. You can book these bigger guests. You can work on your other business, actual business that you're probably trying to do. And you're not spending two to 10 hours a week doing semi monotonous, semi painful parts of the process like uploading and posting social media and just these things are just like over and over again, find somebody to do it for you. And maybe Adam Adams because he's a great guy. Appreciate that. It's been great checking in with you, finding and learning what you've been doing, how to get the success. I loved your idea of just asking for the ratings and reviews, asking people that, you know, you have a relationship with and getting so many in a short amount of time, talking about some of the tools that you use for editing, like the people that you partner with for editing, for making your life easier. The tools that you use on LinkedIn, on pod match, for example, just stuff that we should all be thinking about. And your podcast is the first customer, by the way, if you're listening, the link to the first customer is down in the show notes, so you can scroll down, you can check that out and find out how people are getting their first customers and their second customers, because this is a way that all of us can have growth. Testing optimism about a soft landing as inflation rises again. Upon announcing the Fed Reserve's latest rate hike decision in July, Jerome Powell spoke out a lectern in Washington, DC for a half hour before he dropped a bombshell. The Central Bank staff has abandoned its forecast of a recession. Staff at the Fed, in other words, now expect the Central Bank to achieve a soft landing, an outcome in which the US brings down inflation while avoiding a downturn. Inflation has ticked up for two consecutive months, reversing some of the progress made in the effort to bring price increases down to normal levels. Meanwhile, oil prices have soared, threatening to push inflation even higher. Well, they got like moving ads. Whoa, whoa, what's going on here? Calm down, ABC. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect the Fed to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged, affording policymakers time to weigh their next move as a rapid series of previous rate hikes take full effect. I was looking at Caleb Franzen's tweets. We're at 99 % on the prediction market unchanged today, right? Have you been looking at the, when is the next one? Is it November? I can pull the calendar. I'm pretty sure it's the end of October. I think it's like maybe on Halloween. Let me double check. Oh, on Halloween is going to be spooky. Okay, Drew, are you going to give out candy this Halloween? You know, every - I could break out the green spandex, go old school. You know, every Halloween, AJ disappears and a Mr. Meeseeks just shows up. Okay, I heard existence is pain though. Existence is pain. We're not fumbling around for meaning here, Deezy. All right. Well, I'm fumbling around for this rate of inflation. It eases slightly 6 .7 % despite the oil prices surging. You know, like we said, I think the oil is going to be a leading indicator, so inflation will trickle down from the oil prices. If you want to think about it, it's going to cost more money to get those bananas to drive from point A to point B because they're going to have to spend more in the gas tank. This is going to be - It's just give it a while, let it roll out to the rest of the economy. Namely, food. Oil prices really, really like to impact food prices a couple months down the line. Well, we're looking at the ONS as the Office for National Statistics, and they said the consumer price index measure slowed in the 12 months to August from the 6 .8 figure reported the previous month thanks to food rising at a weaker pace during the month compared to August 22. During the X minute, I have a tweet about Canadian food prices, and I just kind of look at where they've gone over the past 20 years. It is shocking. It is shocking. I used Bard. I was like, this doesn't feel right for the price. I went to a Canadian grocery store, and I went low. I went low. There's expensive eggs and cheap eggs. I typed in the cheap egg price. It was still very scary. All right, well, we have predictions. Jerome Powell's got his ideas. You notice I was thinking about this BlackRock. What is BlackRock thinking about all this? BlackRock and others predict the Fed's next move. What does it mean for Bitcoin though? According to Marilyn Watson, is a BlackRock's head of global fundamental income strategy. The central bank's federal funds target rate will remain roughly the same until the end of the year going through its September, November, and December meetings. For the record, I think the economic data has consistently surprised to the upside, she said. That includes GDP, the unemployment rate, and the labor market. Beware, beware of recession. The analyst has previously argued that Bitcoin's price is macroeconomic determined by conditions, including its four -year cycles, which I am still a firm believer in for this cycle. Might be less of an effect of the previous one, but I'm still a believer in the four -year cycle, going to push Bitcoin to the new high. I do think we'll set in a new all -time high. I don't think we're going to hit a quarter million dollars in two years, but I think we're going to flirt with $100K, which they do not believe are related to the Bitcoin halving. So they're saying the four -year cycle is not related. I don't know what they're saying here. Risk assets go lower in recessions. So I'd expect Bitcoin would not perform well in that environment. It has not seen a real recession in its existence. It was birthed out of a recession, but yeah, hasn't really gone through one from the beginning stages to the end there. Yeah, there's never been a Bitcoin bull run during a phase of quantitative tightening. We've always been quantitatively easing the money supply anytime Bitcoin goes up into the right. And that obviously is what it takes. I think they're kind of leaning into if we're in a recession, and that lines up with the four -year cycle. But just so far, we're three for three with the having idea playing out. And the trend hasn't broken yet, so that's why I always say sticking to November 25 as a benchmark, but that's just a benchmark. It could be behind that. It could be in front of that. We don't have a crystal ball, but we can go off the pattern that we've seen before. All right. Well, speaking of quantitative tightening, we also have calfskin tightening, the tightest calfskin in the entire world. I don't care if you have a baby cow jacket for an extra small on an 800 -pound man, there is no tighter calfskin than the man I'm looking at right now. That is Frankie Candles. Frankie Candles, welcome back. How's it doing? Does it feel good? It feels good. The calfskin is tight, and so is Bitcoin's price action. But yeah, I don't want to waste time here. Let's go ahead and jump right into the charts here. Now, here we are. Now, obviously, I talk about this all the time. I don't typically trade on newsdays like this. It is usually a complete washing machine. Usually the shorts get wrecked, then the longs get wrecked, or the longs get wrecked, and then the shorts get wrecked. So I don't typically trade. Now, I am in a few trades right now. I am in this Bitcoin long right now. I have profits locked in on this trade and my stop loss is at my entry. So kind of how I am playing this today is I'm going to be holding my long. I am long from about $25 ,000 to $50 ,000 just below this range. And again, I have taken profits on that stop loss at break even. And then I am also in a short position from somewhere up here. I am slightly in profit on the short position. So I am long up and now I am in this small short position that is in slight profit. However, this is kind of how I'm playing this today, DZ. Because basically, like I said, I never recommend people trade on these newsdays just because of the complete unpredictable volatility that you're likely to see. Now, the last FOMC meeting, I believe, was on the 25th, 26th of July. I believe someone could correct me if I'm wrong on that. But we actually have seen a few FOMC meetings where we didn't really have too much happen. And I've been telling people that we are likely in that kind of boring accumulation phase of the bear market. A lot of times, if you go back to at least the 2017 or 2018, 2019 bear market, we had that bear market rally. And once we topped off at that point, we kind of just bled out. And for the most part, if you kind of just ignore this panic wick from March of 2020, which was obviously a Black Swan event, we kind of just wiggled sideways. We got that big bear market rally, we topped off, bled out a little bit, and then we just kind of went sideways again with the exception of that panic wick. And I do think we are in somewhat of a similar situation here where the rest of this bear market may not be the most exciting thing ever. Go to Bloomberg .com to get context. All these different participants who submitted their numbers, and by the way, economic forecasting is very difficult, guys. I've heard that before. I heard that today, actually, from Craig's chair, Jay Powell. I mean, not if you have a crystal ball, I don't know, do you guys not have one? Yeah, we don't. Let's walk you through the market numbers here. We've been talking a lot about the macro, but it was a pretty busy day for equity markets, obviously on pins and needles about the Fed, but of course, you had an IPO today in Klaviyo and not necessarily the best trading day for Instacart and Arm, once again. The net effect of it all is the Dow Jones Industrial Average, lower by about two -tenths of a percent. The S &P 500 giving back almost a percent on the day of roughly 41 points, a close right around that 4400 level, a key technical level there. The composite NASDAQ down about 200 points, or one and a half percent, while the Russell 2000 looks like it's going to finish out the day lower by about nine -tenths of a percent. All right, quick look at the S &P 500 in terms of the names, about 173 to the upside, 328 to the downside, so certainly more of that risk -off trade, no doubt about it, and two unchanged, Scarlett. Yeah, volume also slightly lower than the year -to -date average. Let's look at the sector performances here for the S &P 500. It was a down day for the major indexes, as Romain told us, but there are some sectors that did finish higher, including telecom names, healthcare equipment, and food, beverage and tobacco. So you're seeing a lot of those dividend plays, those safety plays come out ahead. On the flip side, you've got a lot of those big tech names, media, entertainment, semi and semiconductor equipment companies, and tech hardware, along with software and services, all leading to the downside, all down by at least one and a half percent. All right, a little nervous making sure that my gainers actually held onto their gains, but let's go to it. Klaviyo, right? The IPO, it's been a big week. Not all of them sent their own. Can we just get rid of that fourth one? Darn it.

Boy, we live in a broken world, don't we? The weekend was chock full of bad news. A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was apparently ambushed as he sat at a red light. Somebody assassinated him. They pulled up next to him and shot him in the head. A video was released of two kids in Las Vegas murdering a retired police chief, a guy on his bike out for his morning ride in Las Vegas. These two kids thought it would be funny to mow him over to kill him and they did. According to Charlie Kirk, one of the two perpetrators is right now free. They don't even have both of them behind bars. The two punks, the two cowards, the two monsters who murdered this guy in cold blood. And also, of course, we might as well get this out of the way. We got President Trump with an answer to Kristen Welker on NBC's Meet the Press and her debut as the new host, which gave a lot of ammunition to Trump haters who want to hurt him and try to wreck his chances of becoming the nominee in 2024. This is an interesting dilemma that Republicans have. Here's the dilemma. Pro -life is a centerpiece, is a foundation of the Republican Party fighting for the sanctity of those unborn babies, the sanctity of their lives, the sacredness of the innocent. That's a centerpiece, that's foundational for the Republican Party. And whether we like it or not, this particular debate that we're having in America is over abortion crushing us at the ballot box. And Donald Trump, I believe, was trying to address that with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. Let's get it out of the way. I've been dreading this all weekend. Well, it wasn't all weekend. I mean, this first broke, I think, Saturday. They gave a little preview of his answer. I don't love his answer, but I also don't love the way Trump critics are pouncing on him, claiming he's not pro -life. I got into a big knockdown drag out, as I expected I would with my friend Mark Davis in Dallas, because Mark is now hell -bent on proclaiming that Donald Trump is not pro -life. And he's saying that because of this exchange with Kristen Welker yesterday on Meet the Press. So for the first time in 62 years, I'm not going to say I would or I wouldn't. I mean, DeSantis is willing to sign a five -week and six -week ban. Would you support that? I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake. But we'll come up with a number, but at the same time, Democrats won't be able to go out in six months, seven months, eight months and allow an abortion. Now, there are people like my friend Mark Davis who took that answer and that proclaimed Donald Trump is not pro -life, like it's important to proclaim or make some kind of declaration that he is not pro -life. And here's what Mark tweeted over the weekend. The heartbeat bill is, quote, a terrible thing and a terrible mistake, unquote. Mark said, I loved every day of his presidency. Thank God he beat Hillary. And if he's the nominee, I'll walk through fire to help him beat Joe Biden. But Trump is not pro -life. Now, as expected, Mark and I had a pretty solid disagreement only because I believe it's ever a ten the march for life. The guy who promised to get Roe v. Wade overturned because that was terrible federal. That was a terrible federal ruling and appointed Supreme Court justices who did just that to claim that Donald Trump is not pro -life is preposterous. It's absurd. It's virtue signaling. And perhaps it's just the opportunistic way you chalk up some points for Ron DeSantis, because clearly Team DeSantis is pouncing on Donald Trump over this remark. I believe two things can be true at the same time. You can be pro -life and you can acknowledge that this issue is killing us at the ballot box and we're losing elections. And here's what Mike Cernovich, who's a conservative influencer on social media, here's what he tweeted or posted on X. He said, if you want to be pro -life, no exceptions, good for you. Lose every election, have no political power, then see what life looks like in a Bolshevik hellhole. Will you feel good because you didn't compromise as your children starve? That's the alternative. And I really do appreciate his point. I am pro -life. I'm proud to tell you every day about Preborn. I want you to support an organization like Preborn. I want women to see ultrasounds and see what that baby inside their womb looks like, because the chances are that woman is going to choose life. I have fought and represented the life movement for many, many years, but I'm also realistic enough to know that if we lose election after election after election because too many women are turning against the GOP over additional abortion restrictions, we're never going to have any Republicans in office to prevent more carnage against the unborn, because we may never win another election. And that's the dilemma. I truly believe that Trump was answering the question on Meet the Press with that in mind, that the reason he thinks it's a terrible idea is he thinks it's costing us elections. Is he pro -life? Of course he is. Was it a clunky answer? Perhaps. Should you want to score points by declaring that Trump is now somehow some wild -eyed pro -choice Democrat? I don't think that's fair and I don't think that's reasonable, but I'm going to turn it over to the smartest audience in America. That's you. "Welcome to a Sunday edition of Convo Over Cigars. I'm your host, Derrick Andre Flemming, and I want to talk about something that I think, you know, it, some people say, well, why do, why do people care? Is their business? I get it. They're celebrities. They're high profile people, but that's their business. The divorce between Young Jeezy and is it Jenny Mai, the former talk show host from The Real, they seem so in love. And this is what I think is a little bit confusing about the divorce. The fact that our Young Jeezy recently filed for divorce in Fulton County, Georgia. After they posted so many pictures, him trying to adapt to her culture. Of course, I think she is, is a Filipino. She's from, she's not African American. She definitely is a woman who is from another culture. So I think the fact that Jeezy showed that he was trying to acclimate to her traditions, her culture, they had a baby together, Monaco. I think the baby is what, two? I'm not sure. Don't quote me. But here, here is the problem that I have with the Young Jeezy filing for divorce. So many women, specifically women of color, African American women are excited that he filed for divorce. They're saying things like, well, why was he with her in the first place? You know, hey, he should have known better. Here's, she's not black, you know, stick with your own kind, stick with your race. Anytime somebody files for divorce, that means that that was a last ditch effort. That means that they tried everything, but they just couldn't make it work. Unfortunately, who is going to suffer in this situation is baby Monaco. The baby's going to suffer, the child, the daughter. Adults sometimes can't make it work. Regardless of how hard they fight, it just isn't working. But we should not be clapping and applauding that somebody had to file for divorce. Because this is, again, another young black child that is going to be raised by a single mother. Let's just be clear. And Jeannie Mai, she's not a black woman, and I can understand the sisterhood that African American women seem to have. But still, it is very unfortunate that he had to file for divorce, and he was separated before he filed for divorce. That means that they had kind of like irreconcilable, irreconcilable differences. Let's not applaud people's downfall. Let's not applaud divorce. Divorce is nothing to be happy about. I think there are people, and I'm happy that some people actually have said, we hope they work it out. We hope they get back together. We hope they can come to some type of an agreement. Divorce is not pretty. And these are two people that I think really loved one another. I definitely think that Jeannie Mai loved Young Jeezy. I think it was something different for her. Many people are saying, hey, you know, she said that black men are only great for a side dish, that she was married to a white man, that Jeezy was more like a fetish for her. Maybe at first. But I think as she began to learn more about him, his culture, his background, the fact that he came from humble beginnings, he's from the trap, he was a dope boy. I think she tried to do her best to be a good wife to Jeezy. And there are people that are saying Jeezy used her to enhance his career, that he was on a downfall. You know, now he has a book, Adversity for Sale, that's on the New York Times bestseller list. She basically made Young Jeezy relevant again, Jay Jenkins. So my thoughts, I just hope they work it out. I have my personal opinions, but I just hope they can work it out for the sake of the baby. And I hope that Jeezy thinks about what he's doing. I haven't heard anything from Jeannie Mai at all. She's been very silent. Obviously, she's going to break her silence at some point. But we're definitely rooting that they work it out and get back together. You guys have been locked into another edition, a Sunday edition of Convo Over Cigars. Sources say that J Jenkins, aka Young Jeezy, had already separated from Jeannie before filing for divorce. The two met on her previous talk show, The Real, which was canceled back in 2022 after eight seasons. The couple showed no sign of distress or any problems. She definitely supported Jeezy when he came out with his new book, Adversity for Sale. She was extremely supportive when he released the book, so no one saw this coming. But obviously, like I said, he had already separated from her. The crazy part about this particular story, their union in general, Jeannie Mai had said some things in the past that, you know, I think I'm kind of paraphrasing. Well, she said that you don't really marry or date black men. You just kind of have them on the side. They're kind of like a, you know, like a plaything when she was actually married to a Caucasian man, if I'm not mistaken. So there were people and there still are people who say that Jeannie Mai is just kind of like an undercover racist or she has these racial tendencies. She says some things that are a little bit off color. So there were a lot of women, especially African -American women, who say that, you know, why was Jeezy even with this woman in the first place? Why did he even marry her? You know, Jeezy straight off from the hood, you know, even though he's very, very successful, very wealthy rapper who came out the trap. You know, you know, he marries a woman who is I think she's a Filipino descent, if I'm not mistaken. Don't quote me. But so there are a lot of women, particularly who are clapping, who are plotting this split. The fact that Jay Jenkins, a .k .a. Young Jeezy, has filed for divorce from his wife of two years. The couple was together for a total of four years, but they've only been married for two. Fortunately, there was also a prenuptial agreement in place. So Jeannie Mai comes into the marriage, well, leaves the marriage with everything she came in with. So does Jay Jenkins, a .k .a. Young Jeezy. We said they didn't hold a lead in this entire four game series. They didn't. It's true. They never had a lead. But the first two games completely non competitive, just no chance didn't do anything. Nothing worthwhile. Next two games, booth, Boone puts a three spot on the board in the third game. Does he does that himself? Then a brick Garner hits an all time season turning three run Homer, which would have been a momentum changer for anybody else, not us, Andrew Velasquez error clay homes gives up the run green gives up a run, Chapman gives up runs. That game ends up not close. And it was, at one time, a three three game with all the momentum in the Yankees corner. Joy Rodriguez came out after that and with the side basically, you know, throw it away. Yesterday again, to nothing, Nestor great start, the starting pitching is almost never the problem with this team. Seriously, literally almost never. Every day, 6 innings two runs, 7 ins three runs. This is the New York Yankees. That is good enough to win for most teams in baseball. For this one, that should be just fine. These are not the aces. This is Nestor Cortez junior. 6 innings two runs against the Toronto Blue Jays at the band box that is Yankee Stadium is fine. Leaves the game, Rizzo ties it with a tour on her again, the momentum has turned. You win that game. It's two and a half game lead over Toronto with an easy schedule coming up. That's not so bad. It's not great. It's not so bad. They were at a safe enough place entering this series. All they really had to do was beat Toronto once. All they really had to do. Honestly, you want to beat them three times. You want to get them out of here. You want them to go away, but all you really had to do was be the ones maintain that two and a half game lead. Keep pace with the Red Sox. And if they'd won one of the games they'd still be ahead of the Red Sox, by the way, now they're not. They're basically those two teams are even in the lost column. "Talk about robbie ray and marcus simeon. Because both of these players are guys at the blue jays should be trying to extend or at least be talking about resigning. Once it gets into free agency and we saw this week we had finally our first bit of news about the extension attempt spy the toronto blue jays they have already attempted to extend marcus simeon. They plan to approach robbie ray in the offseason about resigning him to a long term contract. This is reported by ken. Rosenthal of the athletic. And like i said who's kind of the first bit of news we've heard about extensions because obviously like for months. Now everyone's been bantering about how much these guys deserve. And whether the blue jays will be willing to fork over the money or whether they explore their options free agency but seems like the blue jays are serious. Getting these guys back or at least right. Now they're entertaining the possibility we've already talked about how much money it'll take to get these guys back. I think the expectation from all of us for robbie ray was guy said five one twenty five for his deal Both you guys were in the same ballpark. Five remember correctly. I don't think we talked about marcus. Simeon how much hill command in a free agency deal though so or an extension obviously if it comes to that Personally i look at the model of dj lemay. "Well i mean coming off of this series now against seattle seattle passes them in the wild standing so before we recorded before the series a the blue jays were just trailing cleveland and now seattle over hobson. The yankees are still lurking as much as they are complete. And i'm not complaining but anyways yeah and currently from the wild card standings jays five games back so it's kind of like i believe it's pretty much the same from when we last recorded how which means in a way. It's not horrible but at the same time when you think about it now a little bit of an opportunity you missed to gain more ground but eight and four. I'll take but it's just disappointing. Like the game yes. Last night especially was easily a game. They won it was back and forth. And it's almost a coin flip and it just feels like whenever it's been a coin flip this year. The jays having done it so that's why it's a bit disappointing. And of course he had that game. It was game against baltimore the most recent series where they probably should have won that game as well when it was five one and the implosion happened in the eighth inning. That's a game you lose. It easily could have helped game by game for sure. But now you're right before the all-star break you have a couple of key opponents coming up and it's not going to be exactly easy tampa bay and i think they were mentioning on the broadcast today that the jays are pretty much below. Five hundred in terms of playing tampa bay. Think they meant. I mentioned all the the strong teams they played. They mentioned the record against houston as well this year. And you have no choice but to to you know you gotta win the series you have to. You have to take two out of three in my opinion a obviously we don't know if they lose a series. It's gonna be disappointing. I understand that tampa has been good this year and the kind of still missing a few pieces but if they wanna gained ground on the esp maybe even the division as well. You know i'm going to focus on the wild card. I think all of us are. You gotta beat these teams and it's not like you're gonna stop seeing tampa you have them as well in july and you can't be going off of her. You can't be experiencing the same result every time or else it's just not gonna work out and you're gonna miss the playoffs so this is important for them coming up. They have to win the series. I'm not saying they will. But that is what's going to have to happen this weekend as well and Heading into the all star. Break you to be better than seven or eight and four like you mentioned you know maybe stick around something like that. You can't be any worse than that. But ideally you got to be better than that. I know these past few weeks i've just been saying like pump. The brakes it's okay. It's okay don't panic. I think if we get to the point of the start of may which i guess the timeline now is tasker hernandez by then he doesn't. He's not showing any kovic symptoms right. Now george springer fingers crossed back by the start of. May if you're looking at that sort of situation hernandez and springer are back then. I think you have to start reading more into what's going on with the offense. The offense isn't clicking at that point. Like not even next week when we record but two weeks after that in two weeks time if the offense is in clicking starting to be concerned but right now it's still the early goings. You still have guys like vladimir guerrero junior having really one bad day which he did. Today he didn't get a hit. He's still jacob. I still think he has his on base streak intact looking at baseball reference game logs. He has had either a hit or a walk in every game. This season I think it's shed who lost his hitting streak but even that grow with one bad day he had one bad day. His batting average now is already below three hundred from what it was before like four thirteen or fourteen twenty. So there's a big difference there. And i were still in. The early goings panic. Two weeks from now is a point. Where i'm going to start reading more into these samples that were getting That's where i stand on the blue jays offensive issues right now. frustration watch. Yeah there's still promising everyone to be vaccinated by so they haven't they. Haven't you know there's still a chance for that. And this is what. I think they go back and this it's different from the raptors because while the raptors are playing right now and it's different and they're going to and obviously around the summer it's going to be a little bit delayed as it usually ends. Because of how late they started. How cool would it be for candidate. They go back. That's my prediction and if it's not candidate. They're back august or september. There's ten games right. There are eleven games. Especially if you go on to around august. But i think a perfect situation is candidate. I just have optimism that they're going to be back there at some point this year. Now we'd we'd win a seven game series against the raz mostly because the starting pitching that we lack offensively it would probably be a high scoring game. "The blue jay z. And it's just a very unfortunate situation. I think a lot of people through sports and espn all these other reporters. They've always basically said if you want a good team in canada you have to draft you have to trade or overpay and it just kind of is how it is you know you look at the blue jays. Most of their roster is from international signings or signings our draftkings or something in order to kinda not convinced the player but out of their control. You know obviously you can control if you sign with the team that drafted you but at the same time. They've already selected you so it's just unfortunately with free agency. I'm starting to get a little worried. I was very optimistic and the start of it. Even though even you'll go back to the summer. I didn't think we're going to have a very aggressive free agency. But they said they were optimistic that they would do something. But now as we're seeing. Is you know we thought the the yankees we're going to the blue jays we're going to snag. Dj lemay you from the yankees. Well he kind of you know. He ended up. Going back to the yankees. Even though the blue jays comparably offered him a better amount per year. So it's just is unfortunately we're to seal free agency goes. It's definitely a weird situation to be in because like you said mark. "But what's the update with. You guys was springer and the names. Jays missed out on this week. This week was not encouraging at all. I think part of it is at least for myself. I think a lot of fans have kind of forgotten how free agency works like not like obviously the intimate mechanics of it. But like the overarching fact that you just have to overpay for players and especially being in toronto you have to overpay on top of overpaying for players in free agency. I think we've just forgotten that. So i i think the blue jays are being aggressive but i think our appetite in that you know we. We miss out on hendrix. But you have to overpay the players to get them to sign with your team and on top of that you have to overpay them to get them to sign in kendo with blue jays especially this year when you don't know where they're playing so i it's frustrating to see this happen especially when you think oh hendrickson deserve that much. He reported or suggested that the blue jays might be interested in not only signing george springer but also signing michael brantley as well because the two are very strong friends. And we've seen the blue jays interested in springer we've seen them interest in brantley cover ago but we've never seen Both of these rumors kind of intersect in the way they're intersecting now and i mean what do you guys think about the the need for the blue jays to get to outfielders because as it is already we know that the blue jays obviously want an improvement in the outfield. Obviously they have random brisk. They're not happy with. But if they got brantley and springer that would mean taking away at bats taking away playing time from guys like tasker hernandez guys from like lord girl junior maybe if you slide brantley into a designated hitter spot. You're taking away from someone like vladimir guerrero junior depending where he plays whether it's mostly at first base mostly at designated hitter split between the two so it seems like this might be a good idea on paper for the blue jays but it's a little bit flawed in the execution in that it could pose problems on the field. I think it's interesting with montoya because it seems as if so many aspects so many people within the media whether it's a manager of the year voting last year this year their predictions a buck. Martinez has said that. He predicted a ton of votes. Would go charlie's way. I think you know maybe there are a lot of things that maybe we are a little. "I don't think it's that big deal. Also we that is interesting. Is the fact that francisco indoor does only have such a short amount of time that he would probably be with the blue jays before he had to sign an extension or anything. Because one of the things that we've all said is if the blue jays are to acquire francisco indoor they to sign him to an extension because if you lose him after a year then is that worth it and i don't think it is so if they were to trade for him a couple of days ago that was on the roster i think right now would be the time that you have to sign to an extension or some type of deal because the last thing you want is to trade for him. Now wait till the end of the season and then you're you're basically stuck trying to acquire him again. I think right now would have to basically spend most of their time on francisco lindores so even like you said mark. This deal probably would have been more of a burden you know. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Bluejays obviously could benefit from francisco indoor but is it really worth it to sign him or trade for him potentially folks on signing him now or wait till next offseason because who knows what happens next off season you there could be a lot of different things going on so it's just overall it just the blue jays maybe and maybe this is a bit of a good thing happening for them not getting. Yeah and there's lots of pros and cons. Come with the steel. And i'm i'll i'll say it again. I was one of the. I was the only person out of all three of us. Who wanted this to happen or in favor of this to happen but the one thing that makes me at peace with it as well mark. I think that's perfect way to put it is that there's still names available.
