"Fans right now. Just hearing you mentioned the Patriots up in this joint. I'm doing what I like. I like Travis Sing Tien and Like now, Jay Harris. I thought I was surprised. Both of them came back for their senior years. But If I'm picking one of those like I think they're both gonna be, you know, potential to be, you know, top 10 or top five backs in the NFL. I'm gonna side with Mr I'm gonna take care of a little bit bigger. And all the athleticism that you're you need. I mean, each year. It's not like your dog and a guy like he's fabulous too. But, yeah, you know, Harris, when you see them hurdling guys out there, he could catch the ball. He he runs hard. J my I haven't seen like the game our and speed with hands as King Henry two point Oh, he's King Henry. Two point I get what you guys said. Gee, Harris, I'm just gonna say this look up, Ms. We're gonna go to a break. I want you to look up his 40 time. Okay, okay. And then tell me Travis 88. This is the NFL is a game of speed. I mean, not she Harris cannot run the linebackers. If you can't outrun linebackers, I look and those linebackers. Everybody isn't all American. If not a Superman in the NFL in college, you can outrun people. You cannot quick up. Those moves don't work in the next level. I like I like nausea. Harris. I don't get me wrong. He can catch he could pick up blitzes. He could do a lot of things, but this game is about speed. If you got a Travis Etienne, I would take him over. Now she has just just my opinion. I'm just saying I got you we got we got to go to a break and we'll come back and we're gonna debate what the lion should do. You're listening to the end zone. This is the end zone below the tuning up so you.

That's a great birthday present for you. Congratulations that's really good. So you founded the Denver Urban Spectrum newspaper Nineteen eighty-seven tell us about the story and how the seeds were planted for the newspaper. You know it's funny that you would say how the seeds were planted. Because I always start that off when I talked to When I when people ask me that question and I refer to them I refer to it because my from my two partners that helped start the publication thirty four years ago. I was approached by Robert Stewart. Who actually in it? I think he was working in the computer systems and here approached me and said he was looking for I think he's looking for a graphic designer and I've always had a graphic design studio. Were worked in that worked in that field for many years and And I still do I still do as a matter of fact. I'm fortunate that I've been working on the publication in that area. Also as in addition to the publisher but I was doing freelance Moguls business cards stationery menu Annual reports and you know he asked around the community and several people say well he would be harassed anyway we met talked about the publication and I asked him I said well. Can you go and get Working on the business planning come back and see me and he said okay. So I don't know must have been three. Maybe six months went by and then I got another. I got another call from Ron. Still and he's a photo journalist. He's the timeframe and he wanted to start a publications like knock on my head again Publication keeps coming my way and so after I talked with him. I said well Ron. Let's go see Robert and see how business plan is going and called Robert and we met. I called them and actually he just said Oh. I forgot all about that publication. It's like shame on you so anyway we got together. The three of us get together and talk about it and We went out and I went to a printer in and found out that to print publication. It's going to be about eleven hundred in two thousand eleven hundred dollars to print publication small publication twelve pages and so we went out to get about eleven hundred and two dollars worth of advertising temperate. This announced the coverage is to get that first one going and so after that you know Ron still in A. He's Oh God that was too much work for me. So he said he wants to be a photo journalism. I think he went to the Indianapolis Star. So Robert Nigh continued it on but I always say that Robert Plant the seed then run feel came and he kind of water did and I'm I'm out of there so all I can say is the rest is history and then going on for thirty four years. Now that's Awesome. And and what was your drive. What was your. Why did you want to create this? What's interesting because I was a graphic designer My wife was just really kind of support the community. We didn't have Where there were a couple of other publications and you know there's a couple of two round but I think there was a need for the communities of Color and I think our perspective with just a little bit different we We actually Stirred the focus was on women who Latino Women African American Women Asian and native American but That was on women initially the first the first year actually the first year we did a story on. Oh Gosh you know. They were Dell a bad wound. She was a native American community. There was one who I don't even nephews women where they are. Today she was Asian We K- you the OH Gosh okay Florence Hernandez Komo's will also be the story on Cleo Parker Robinson worried cover stories And they were phenomenal. You know phenomenal people that we have the covers on but the first year. We did have a little glitch So well we had a little glitch. And there was a fire we There's a fire in our building and we lost a lot of material some of the original artwork. Kinda change the focus but the other thing too. You know a kind of evolved more to the African American community because the Asian community had you know they they. I'm sure they still do have a lot of publications in Hispanic Community A Lotta publications. Also so they kind of evolved to the African American community over the years. Okay awesome awesome and as you were dimming. So is this something that you dreamed about was something that just happened to unfold for you. I did not dream about it. You know and you're right. It consists is just actually something that unfolded for me. I was a graphic designer and I it just it just came to me. I I went to school in Omaha and I. I was a fine arts. Fine Arts majoring in finance and a minor in journalism. So I always feel that you God has a plan for everyone you know and it. Kinda it was Kinda destiny because I would agree with that. I can tell you that it was something that are meant to step into. And all of the signpost showed up for you to lead you in the right direction exactly and I feel that way with a lot of things people were saying. What are you you know you know when people are talking? I say I've got a I've got a little Assistant and She's she's from Micronesia. And I love her dearly like a granddaughter and she always says whatever plan that God has for me that's where she's going and so that's what I feel also I think there's a reason and a purpose for his plan on everyone's life and I feel like this is my year purpose because I do have a few more things that you know. I WANNA

"This Sunday. Got Seating Open all of it pretty much in the NFC FC. We have the number one. Lock the course the Ravens They will be without Mark Ingram for this upcoming game The question is though Jay Harris. How long he will be out? He suffered calf strain in that win. Over the browns on Sunday it happened in the fourth quarter. They ended up winning thirty one. Fifteen he left wearing a he walked slowly from room did not have a noticeable limp and did not have a protective boot which he let me rephrase. I'm getting confused. He left the stadium with the boot. Yes Thursday at the facility to that he did not have it on. He didn't was not walking with Lynn. No he was yet right. Easy do this for living. And he says I'm smooth. Yeah I'm good. I got some time so I'll be ready for the first playoff game so he expects to play so he won't be for another two weeks week number. He says he's going to play this week. Not GonNa play the week. Africa's is a bi week then that other week he's going to be ready to play so that would be good news for the Ravens and and John Harbaugh Mark Ingram at least eighty percent eighty five percent. You want him back there now. Situation where it's not fully healed and he could re-injure the injured and make it worse and that's a concern as well but you would hope that in that two weeks plan if it's only a minor strain that it could repair itself. Because was the ravens are better team with mark. Ingram is running total best case scenario for them because they haven't had to deal with this kind of adversity. They've just been rolling the whole season right so into to have him being as confident as he is that he will play. It's it's it's the best thing for them because we haven't seen them have to come back or just D- what something the right. They've had any much like real adversity They were down early in that game to the to the browns on Sunday all of a sudden they scored two touchdowns in about five five minutes and they were leading in the third quarter by the time. That game was already over but again to have him. Bid has time Lamar Jackson not expected to play on Sunday. Nor should he quite frankly He's played in the playoffs before. Give him some rest but also you know protect him from a potential injury that could keep him out of the playoff game. It's just not worth the risk. ingrown wasn't hurt. Would he play. I don't think he would play. Probably not so like this is going to be the team anyway just a matter what the team be in a couple of weeks when they do play their first playoff off game the patriots have a chance to lock down the number two seed. All they have to do is beat. The dolphins the chiefs are going to be right there. You got the bills tremendous season for them to be in this position. Position The last playoff spot in the AFC though it's a titans if they want if the titans win it's there's if they lose the steelers win the steelers get it the raiders of an outside chance but a whole bunch of stuff has has to happen in that regard and over the NFC though Mike ings are in it six. Vikings are in a six. That's all down right now. Vikings can't go up. Can't go down there are gonNA be at six. The niners could be number one. If they beat the seahawks the seahawks could win and end up number two even number one. If the Patriots the Patriots the packers and saints both lose but again all that. CD IS GONNA come into play based on what happens on Sunday and then you still got the very last playoff spot. And that is the the eagles or the Cowboys Eagles win they go. Eagles lose cowboys win. Bego both teams lose eagles go. That's it who's going on the Vikings at six. Assure you go with what you go. You can't be wrong exactly all the rest of the stuff with go play out and we will see you know. He's been looking at the standings. I'm looking at the match. I really think C...

"Hey guys how're you doing. Hey money thank you good to have you. We were just talking about marshawn Lynch coming back and I do want to talk about the the week. Seventeen matchups and the potential seating aspects of things of that nature but take make us inside the front office because I was doing sportscenter on Sunday when Pete Carroll came on and talked about the injuries they had in these. We gotta do something so you're the GM in that situation is week sixteen. You know you gotta get maybe one or maybe two players in a certain position. What is that process like? And how quickly does it come together. Yeah my kid's One of those things where John Schneider the GM of the seahawks and he. Carl deserve a ton of credit at this point of the season. You don't have a lot of great options and there's truly nothing nothing worse than when you have multiple injuries at the same position so Chris Carson Rashad pennies out and then they lose. Cj prosise I so you know marshawn Lynch is someone that's been there and to me guys we talked about this the NFL live yesterday. I think the intangible to the locker room has tremendous. You're telling your team. Hey we're doing our apart. Everything within reason to help our team and I think they'll probably treat this week is as maybe a preseason game where look give them five ten plays and the two concerns would be one knowing the system Brian Schottenheimer office coordinator. Somebody that has not been with marshawn Lynch and then you ever think Kerley is soft tissue injury so get him in the game the aim get him out of the playoffs a Mike in the NFC we have. The Vikings are set at sixty. That's about all we have a of the teams at the Top Saints Packers Seahawks niners. Which team in your opinion needs that? Top seed yeah. That's a great question J it's GonNa be interesting thing you know. I would think Seattle because of all the injuries they have like getting wholesale. ADS would really be helpful. I think San Francisco New Orleans right now the most complete teams that could probably went on the road so if Seattle got that one seed I think that's just a really hard place supply earlier so I made the point earlier Mike than I thought it was as a New Orleans just because of potential weather situation like the superdome is a hard place to play for any visiting team because of the noise and how the fans fans get into it. But if the saints go on the road and have to go to maybe lambeau or maybe Seattle could be a situation. I think they would be more adversely affected effected if they have to go on the road especially in late January right. You know what's interesting. No I thought the Tennessee game kind of answer. That question from a standpoint of they have played well on the road. Go album is still really good back they can run the ball and really to me. What's really remarkable about the same guys to me is every game every every opposing defensive coordinator says hey we have to stop Michael? Thomas have to stop him and his production is still been historic. 'cause if you look at the way they're built their next to best. Receivers numbers are jared. Cook tight end and Alison are running back. So what they've done is remarkable and I think because of again tomorrow I think they'll travel well in terms of Being productive the Road Hey Mike in the AFC. If I gave you Baltimore versus the field who you taken. Oh that's a that's a great question. Oh boy you know I probably would take the field but boy it's close and I think the only reason I would do that is because of Patrick Mahomes. Just they got the level. He's playing at right now. You're the one team that could go in there. And and stand toe to toe with Labar Jackson but boy. That's a good question Mike Tannenbaum. NFL FRONT OFFICE INSIDE OR ESPN join us here on the Shell Pennzoil performance. Line Mike. There's going to be a time that the Patriots are going to have to retool if not rebuild If you were looking at that that roster as presently constructed based on you know who's been there and how long they've been there what's their most pressing need going forward if this team is going to sustain this type of excellence well first of all my thanks to kids. I'm trying to educate and after twenty years of my head against those guys between the justice. Remind me of that I Ah say maybe in the holiday spirit here So I would say you know obviously the the succession plan with with Brady. So jarret Stidham. I think realistically Guys Gray Resume Right. Now is the greatest incomplete He's intriguing but I don't know he's the guy then obviously you know explosive skill players You know you just watch them play this year. I think the best is success. have in the playoffs just to stay with that too. Back Right formation that they used so successfully last week so I think losing gronkowski knocking replacing Antonio Brown Julia that'll in is still productive. But you know he's a guy that's a collision player. He's he's slowdown so to me. Beyond the quarterback is like it's GonNa be young explosive skill players and my how would you assess the Job Tomlin's coaching job this year. I don't think there's any question to me. He may be the coach of the year. You know people realize disguise their fourth quarterback obviously not rothlisberger and then. They're young quarterback Josh Dobbs who two years ago absolutely tore up Queanbeyan a preseason game obviously they had Mason Rudolph it off and the fact that they're still alive guys on their four quarterback. I don't think people realize that that's virtually impossible so beyond teddy bridgewater going five. No as the replacement for drew brees. I think the most remarkable thing that's happened. This season is the fact that the steelers going into the last game season are alive and make the playoffs on their fourth for quarterback. Yeah like I can't. I'm trying to think of Thomas ever happened since I've been paying attention I I can't really say it has and for them just to be in a position they do make it. I'm with you Mike. If if I had a vote I would totally give it to Mike Tomlin as coach of the year if this team makes it to the playoffs Mike before we let you go. We're asking about the worst gifts that people have ever given or receive remember bad gift that you received or you gave them one. Oh my Gosh my wife. "Insurance getting a quote is easier than ever and last night in the NBA. We saw all the solidification is that we're solidification that I thought was already employed in that. Is that the clippers are the best. NBA team in Los Angeles and thus the Western Conference of the NBA. beat the Lakers again. For the second time this season this was a home game for the Lakers. Of course it's a hallway series of when these teams play. Kills me the game for the Lakers. And that's a home game for the clippers. Yeah in the same place. Only thing is like the division of the fans. The laker game is ninety percent. It laker fans ninety five. The clipper game is eighty percent. Lakers seventy five just loud when they go to Clipper Games Ross Markazi former colleague of us here at ESPN now he works at the La Times in Los Angeles sports columns. He joins US now. Here on the Stephen Smith Show arosh appreciated. Thomas always man. I was there for the opener. When the Lakers and the clippers play not thought the energy and the building was dynamic it felt way bigger than just an opening night game? I've been to some classic classic Christmas Day Games there at Staples Center most notably two thousand four when shack in the heat. came to play Kobe and the Lakers. What was it like Staples Center last night when these two teams went at it up there I mean definitely had a playoff deal like the first game of the season and the number one thing that I kept thinking? I really all the preview of the conference finals. I mean I I just. This is a rivalry Michael. We've talked about this before that. It should have been for whatever reason. Obviously both teams has never have been good at the same time. Either the Lakers and the clippers clippers. The Lakers are bad for the first time. Not only are they both competitive both championship. Contenders I mean. You could make the argument. They're two of the top three teams leak so it was such a fun game to watch But yes as you mentioned at the top of this. The clippers are these superior exterior team. Right now You make that definitive statement. How how how can you make that definitive statement in considering that The lead dog on the other team is not a hundred percent. Well I think if played each other twice and the clippers won I think this who is he telling staff so the one reason that I've kind of stayed with the clippers if they were to play in a playoff series defensively the way that they close out the games the way that they really leash shut them down in the last six minutes where listen the Lakers can dominate the first half they can dominate through the first three quarters. But when you get down to crunch in the last six minutes of the game what happened so you know who knows if this is a preview of things to come but if the clippers play defense against the Lakers as they have done the first two games. It's GonNa be a great theory but I slightly favor the clippers doc rivers the head coach. He's won a championship in this league. Before with the Celtics back in two thousand and eight went back in two thousand ten. Lost to the Lakers. Frank Vogel came into a situation where the Lakers been trying to find a head coach of of significance. That could last there for quite some time. How much do you think the difference in these two teams lies with the head? Coaching itself. A little listen I mean listen. DOC is one of the best coaches in the league. But I don't think enough credit has been given to Frank Vogel for the job that he has done certainly defensively with the teams the season and for all the talk. Going into the season about the dysfunction that the coaching staff might have these function. Just fine so you know. Listen I think if you were to say head to head who's the superior coach I'm GonNa clearly give it to dock but not by a lot of really. I think bring bogus a fantastic coach and when you talk about the difference from Luke Walton to Frank Vogel. That's big. I just think what Frankl brought to. This team has been huge. What are your expectations? Out of. This Lakers team. Lebron has to missing -nificant time because of the Groin. Well Gee that's that's the big question we go back a year ago. The Lakers go into the warriors game as one of the top four seat Lebron goes down. I'm from month and their season's done so the the what we've heard that that's not the case that he's not as as her as he was a year ago but if he has to miss a significant time. This is not the same team without Lebron James on the court so I think they'll be fine as a healthy team. I'm not concerned about the Lakers. I am concerned with Brian. James does have to miss a significant amount of time arosh Markazi. La Times sports columnist. Donors here on the Stephen a Smith show. ESPN pretty radio and the ESPN APP What is the what was the concern that you felt? Maybe a rush. When you left Lakers locker room and talking to some of the players and coaches afterwards that Lebron will be out for significant time? We're not talking about a week here. He sits out maybe two or three weeks maybe even a month so for them and they want to make sure that they don't have a repeat of what happened before they wanna make sure if he comes back they he's one hundred percent difference. Obviously this year is they have with the top five. I players in the League to lean on. They didn't have that before so if they can get through listen they they wanna be the top seed of course in the West but if they want to be healthy see going into the playoffs so you know. I think they're gonNA be extremely conscious at the beginning. This is not a load management thing. But I think they're going to see how they fare without Laurent but if they get to a point where where where they're not performing at the level that they'd like and obviously guys they've lost four straight perhaps. How's he going to have to come back sooner but they don't WanNa push them they don't want him to come back until he's one hundred percent healthy? What kind of a boost the Kyle Kuzma? I know they lost the game but Kuzma played really well. We're kind of boosted. The he gives them last night as they looked to move forward. And you say you know what's what's the biggest supplies for this team and I really talk. How would embrace that third star role again? He's not a star but he has the potential to be a star and I think because he missed camp and he has not been healthy kyle. Kuzma can adapted that third guy role in having the kind of game that he had last night. The Lakers are going to be just fine and certainly if he can perform like that while Lebron is not playing that would be huge. But Kyle. Who's being that type of player? That was the guys that they were hoping for that. That was the one a young piece that they kept in that trade for that ability to be the third guy on this team any performed that way after his teammates really joked about his pre-game out yea look on his way back from like a rebate money by the vice twenty twenty. Oh my God we got a game tonight. Let me run off to the GAY Arosh. Here's what I here's what I really WanNa ask you about because this is to me the most intriguing rigging stuff now grand. I'm probably a little biased. Because I live in La for ten years. And I covered both of these teams. But I'm not from there right so I'm not invested in these teams like the fans are from emotional standpoint damn point you however grew up in Los Angeles. You went to college in Los Angeles. You spent your entire professional career in Los Angeles so you know that market and you know the dynamic hamic between these teams Laker fans have always held the superiority over clipper fans and they will forever. We're always liquor town that's not in question. What is in question though? Oh is the confidence that they're holding on to that support superiority with and I say that because they've always had something to say against the Clippers Clippers granted you can always count NBA titles but as it comes to these last several years. Even go back to Chris. Paul came in the clippers. have been the better team in that city for quite some time now right and now Laker fans starting to run out of excuses in terms of why. They're not beating the clippers. What is happening to that dynamic within the rivalry very in that city so the big thing that happened was as you remember when we covered the clippers as good as they were Michael They never got to the conference finals? I know right never won a championship. That is the only currency that holds any weight. Here you have to each championship. The big difference is the the top players on the clippers right. Now turn down the Lakers in preference for joining the clippers. Paul George and quite both local guys who grew up nearby in in California and instead of going. The Lakers wanted to go to the clippers. That's number one if the clippers with this team preventable abroad and the lake could winning a championship gaffed chip and by that I mean they go through the Lakers and beat them for example in the playoffs from the conference finals and they win a championship that for the first time would move the meat or that would move the needle and it would be like okay. This is still a Lakers count. But the clippers are now becoming that team with with that swagger confidence. I mean if this group goes in wins the championship but not only does. That goes through the Lakers to do it. That would be huge H.. How how quiet was the staple center at the end of that game last night? Very quiet very quiet although you heard Patrick Beverley obviously we'll see that that clip. That's sort of. It's a fun thing to say. It's not a rivalry but obviously it is. What matters Patrick Beverley exactly right? So Patrick Beverley. Perfect is for that team An and again when you talk about. Why Georgia's Kinda quiet that second unit you know with Patrick Beverley on the court? Steel mantras herald and Williams Williams. Just what made that team fun and had a kind of cocky swagger a year ago. Yeah two of the best two way players and now this this is such a championship team. How much better do the clippers think? They are than the Lakers. The superior team name. I don't think there's this huge I think they both both teams if they were to meet in the playoffs if they are prepared for a seven game series. I think You just touchdown that wouldn't be much travel. 'cause they won't be plaguing same place but no I think. Despite the fact that the clippers on the first cookies to see I think both teams know. This is a playoff security is having probably thing that stands out to me about the personality makeup of these individual teams and thus their franchises Arash is that the the two stars for the clippers. Quiet Leonard Paul George based on where they grew up or way more indicative of so much. I'm more geography. If you will of southern California the Lakers are always be showtime. There'll always be beverly hills west side of the four or five for Malibu down on a Manhattan beach. Of course they will always be that in Inglewood as well because that's where they played but the inland empire is part of Los Angeles to even though it's not Los Angeles Louis County right south. La and south of Inglewood going down towards Carson. That's part of La to if you go north of the valley beyond Sherman Oaks and Van. Is you get towards Palmdale and stuff. Where Paul George from that is part of southern California too and I think those two players industrial franchise and the embodiment of that gritty the attitude they represent a large portion of Los Angeles and Southern California that has been represented necessarily in the premiere? Sports teams the raiders. Hetero that effect where they were there for a while they were anti rams. The dodgers have always been Hollywood. But I think the clippers now are representing those fans and I think those fans as a result don't rush are becoming more vocal and that's starting to get under the nerves of Laker fans I have never seen so much shade. You know kids into poor Palmdale after police feel like what is that you know. He grew up near Los Angeles. Maybe he was a Laker fan or whatever and then as soon as he left I mean the amount of hate there was unfortunate..

"Tuesday and I. You know what I'll say this as well because I'm guilty of this this this is one of more embarrassing things in my life I did and I think I think it's dumb and I hate when people do it now. Also like proposals at sporting events. Yeah yeah they kind of get on my nerves. I did that the first time you did it. It was Michael Eve on the jumbotron of what I said. I'm embarrassed by it right. Yes that's dumb as you should be yes. It's dumb because you do. You have a look at me look at me got divorced. So what. What were they looking at? They were looking at the coin. Flip landed on the other side. That's where it landed on tales. That's where I got kicked so so you shouldn't do it that either but don't do it on Christmas because of what it could end up becoming but if it ends up becoming something long term and and special and loving like I'm sure Lindsey and K hope will day to celebrate somewhere else but then you have an extra extra extra special Christmas and extra-special the racial is it. We'll we'll have to ask him a question. Yeah if you get your future spouse and engagement ring for Christmas right does that I get other gifts because the marines ain't that's true right. Yes I'm saying so like had the merry Christmas happy birthday happy anniversary she can air pods to no. She's not getting some some Air Jordan. Eleven does not have neither. I guess it depends on how you roll number one but number two but we're talking about most most people average people not just one gift up on three look baby. Oh Hey I guess and going things are things are going okay so far. Did you hear another gift as yeah well so I. She didn't know what the other presidents were but thirteen years ago on slide. A little bit. Because and you're the you're in the military you can't just go pick a railing. Tuesday sometimes you gotta recent where like all right. I know I'm going to be able to be home at this point and do with how it's done. Yeah I knew I knew that. That was the first time we've seen we were GONNA see each other for the first time in a while and then after Christmas. Find me a few months you proposed on Christmas Eve heads. Did you see her on the twenty third of the twenty second or the twenty. Yeah I I probably got home a couple of days before that could affect but with yeah I was a surprise. I wanted to surprise her and she was going to be surprised. Browser the project telling the story now probably cut it and send it to the things that we're concerned. That was thirteen years ago. We've been married for eleven years and we have three three kids and I just popped up on the facebook memories the other day so it was. You know those facebook memories of something Great Kinda it forgotten. I did it then so it's nice to remind you that when I brought it up today where the worst time ever visit Christmas. But that's what Lindsey Vonn de That's what Lindsey Vonn bossed up. And she's like she's booked all the trends and I love that she did it. Yeah she bought all the rents yes. Here's what she got more or money. PK anyway so we'll hey that really going to be big. If it comes from her then I'll tell you the paycheck saying will you marry me. Look look what I got from me and like so now if you get an engagement ring if you're pk what's your wedding band GonNa look like or do you put a diamond on. I'm so confused. That's a great question because I've never heard of a engagement ring for. We should have grown. Have them on. Maybe we will coming up. Lakers lost to the clippers last night but there might be more. Would it be concerned about from a brand new company. Yeah that's pretty bad because so either here's what was happening with his mom. Either she was like. Oh you don't WanNa take this battleship uh-huh oh you thank you. That's exactly what she was four. She forgot she gave it to him before. I Oh you know what I never did. Give him that. Battleship gang be corrupt. Is He never did get it. It'd be new now. They Kademi Sports and outdoors Texas bowl and of course the cheese at bowl coverage begins noon eastern nine Pacific on ESPN radio and the ESPN APP. He got us up on twitter at Michalik at Jay Harris. ESPN weeks seventeen the NFL season coming coming up owners pretty quickly and we're talking earlier about the NFC with seating being such a big deal right now in the AFC you still gotta find a WHO also is the last team to get in right right. Now it's the titans have the upper hand they win. They know they're in St Louis. Have a chance to get in there. The raiders have an outside chance to get in but a bunch of stuff has to happen little too much minutia so I really we think is down to the titans and the steelers and probably the titans. But I'll say this if the steelers somehow get into the playoffs after after missing last year but if they get to the plan this year with their starting quarterback going down an basically getting down to their fourth string quarterback by the time we got the duck. Hodges yes right and the players that they lost off that squadron haven't Tonio Brown right he was on the team last year. Didn't play the last game and all of the things they've gone through the injuries. James James Connors the running back position Blah Blah. If this team somehow makes the playoff Mike Tomlin is the coach of the year in the NFL. As far as I'm concerned hands down one hundred percent no argument case closed credit for handling all of this and put in the team just to be in a position J to get there but if they get their he's my coach for some reason and use it goes back to His Demeanor has is coaching ability to weigh his handle on those guys. Even when all those bad things happen you heard nothing. It was just like okay next next man up right. Let's go play some football and I think they reeled off five or six straight wins. I can't remember and you look up. And they have a chance to make the playoffs and and I'm not sure that Tomlin has gotten the credit for his coaching ability throughout his career. Why even with a super bowl and I agree with Ubuntu why I mean he started in well he won the superbowl was cowards? Team BUBBA and but still I. I don't I don't know I don't there was it was is it the market. Is it like we don't like when we think of all the top teams in the AFC even when the steelers are great. We don't talk about him as much as you do. The Patriots it's or maybe even the chiefs says Pat Mahomes came into the league. They don't like Rothlisberger Hall of Famer but he's not dynamic. He's not like Lamar Jackson has done. So we don't talk about about the steelers in that regard now. We don't miss almost since he got there. It was. It's been more. Will we just expect the steelers to do this. And it's more the steelers lers. As opposed to Thomas Mike Tomlin or as it was opposed to the Patriots. Is Bill Belichick Bill Belichick. Yeah you're right but before it was no and then it was cower right now it's the steelers so look at it as it stands right now because there are some teams in need head coach going into next season clearly. Some teens would love to get rid of the current coach. They have Mike. Tomlin is everything you would want. In a head coach in terms of how he keeps the ship pointing in the right direction. Chen regardless of any adversity. Like really if you want to nitpick at the steelers and be having not been a little more complicated probably pick. You probably go to the front office. You wouldn't Mike Tomlin true right. I mean like a player here there. They probably should have gotten or should assign. Or whatever you want to nitpick through the roster I would say it's probably more that than Mike Tomlin but nonetheless just being in this position just tells you how good of a head coach because it's not just about the play calling and your coordinators about keeping the whole thing together and he's unexceptional exceptional job with that but if you look at the AFC structure right now. We know the Ravens are going to be the number one seed. Lamar Jackson Not GonNa play this week going to have another week before we actually play another game I went to get to the Super Bowl. And he's been in the playoffs before starting quarterback so he has that experience already so you look at AFC Patriots. It's beat the dolphins which they should do be. The number two seats will get a first round byes. Well then get the chiefs Texans bills and whoever that last spot is so now who's go into Baltimore and beat the best running game in the NFL and the most dynamic quarterback seen in in its in a generation who who what what team is going to be the is it the Patriots. Their offense shake his hell right now. You think that's going to travel. What about the cheese Patrick Mahomes? He's dynamic. They're getting a little bit better. So got issues on defense. You can run on the chiefs chiefs. And that's what the pay is that. What the Ravens do who's going to go into Baltimore and taking on the Ravens? I think of those teams I would. I would if I had to pick when I pick the chiefs because because they're a team that could put up points on you and that's one thing the ravens have not had to deal with that adversity of trying to come back from down two were three scores and and make football game because they've just been blitzing everyone so it it would be someone that could match their firepower and get them down early and see what's what they're made of. So I I would I would go chiefs now. Here's one thing you have to consider in the AFC as well as it relates to the ravens that as the health of Mark Ingram heavy heavy suffered that injury on Sunday to me. I was like Oh that looks like I don't WanNa say but they say it's just a cath. MRI said it was just a calf. Also Skaff Kevin durant known whatever you WANNA say there. Because Lamar Jackson is one thing and they they do have a solid running game as a whole but mark Ingram is different. He's the guy you want back there. It'd be in your lead running back in that situation if he can't go that does change the dynamic of that attack for Baltimore in some regard but again Cam Lamar Jackson even make up for that. It's another thing they haven't had to deal with correct. They've they've just been firing on all cylinders because all cylinders have been there now before the season started. I'll say my Super Bowl picks or chief sinks and I've remember what my and if you if you asked me if I'd WanNa keep keep that bet right now I'd probably would. I wouldn't mind those teams going into the playoffs. I wouldn't be mad at you and I say that for from the AFC standpoint as I with Aj. I can't see the chiefs going to Baltimore winning. I can see PAT mahomes going on the road and winning especially Mark Ingram was not able to play or not. Same Guy Whatever Because they have that ability to score yes quickly they can get it out. They can hit hill Kelsey. They can hand it off. They can go so if you gave me. Chief Saint Super Bowl. I'd also be happy with that in Miami. I'd be happy I'd be happy with that. But again you still got to go to Baltimore and beat the most dynamic quarterback we've seen in quite some time who's going to be the MVP now therefore running back not bad for running back ESPN radio presented by progressive. "He re tweeted it avocado question right now. There was an article in the New York Times that I saw yesterday. And it said that. With all due respect to Lebron Steph Jeff Curry was the player that defined the twenty tens for the NBA. So I have a poll up. Who Do you believe defined the NBA? In this past decade was Steph or Lebron Right. Now we've got like a few hundred votes. Lebron is running away with the voting and I believe he is the player that define the twenty twenty tents for the NBA granted Steph won three titles and what he did from a player's standpoint and how the game is played a little bit more openly now and freely and guys jacking up a lot more threes. I think that's why said stuff okay. But here's the deal okay. Lebron also won three titles in that decade indeed he went into eight straight. NBA Finals. He did four with one team four with another team he won a title with two different teams one. MVP's but despite all of that which is great. I think trump's what steph on the court just in terms of a stray basketball this. This dude changed the power structure of the NBA when it comes to free agency from the team's owners to the players what he did in the summer of two thousand ten prior to joining the Miami Heat and then going back to Cleveland and then you're going to la he has giving the players in in the NBA a power. They never had before and that to me. Define the decade as much as anything that happened on the court is how things are done now from a player involvement standpoint. That's why is Lebron who defined the twenty tens in the NBA. Well that's that's a great argument and maybe we need to break the question down even further to on and off the court off the court. Everything you just said is absolutely true on the court. I I would argue that it Steph and maybe even break it out a little bit from Steph the Golden State Warriors in the way. They play the bath the game of basketball the way they shoot. Three's agrees the way. They spread the floor of the way everyone involved the way they play. Defense every team wants someone or look at the Houston Rockets. Now I'll try and keep up with the warriors. They're jacking up. Threes and Jacquet threes at a higher rate in the warriors did and everyone else. Everyone wants to shoot. Three's all of our big men. Can you shoot the three. Look at Yarmouth Janas trying to shoot. Three's everyone wants to shoot threes. Because S Steve Kerr eloquently pointed out and demonstrated its worth one more than a two point basket so if you get more threes and twos. You're going to win games. And they won so many games and Golden State so I think on the court because of the way they played basketball football it is Steph and our branch out to the warriors over Lebron off the court everything you said. Yeah give it to Lebron Man. You Act like Steph invented the three point. I'm not saying Steph. Invented a three point shot and he did not but the way the warriors and Stephan clay the all that just team just came together it it re energized reinvigorated put the focus back on the three point shot because people they use it as a weapon. Now as opposed to just something that's incidental that. Yeah we have some guys that can shoot the ball. Go behind the line and we'll give it a three but on the rest of the possessions pounded down inside so we can get a two point chat from our center. Here's what I don't want to do. I don't I don't WanNa sound like like I am going after Steph. No you don't you. Don't argument is valid correct. But I'm about to say some things going to make it sound as if going after after Steph. I'm not all right. I think he's one of the best examples of a professional athlete. You could ever have both of them Steph. Amazon exactly weekly. So I'm not. This is not about Steph specifically but this is about steffes phenomenon cafe all Steph did was duplicate what Steve Nash did with the sons okay. They played more freely. They shot threes at a higher clip. They got shots up faster they ran they pushed it. They found dudes they they. It was a fun way to play basketball saying warrior. Sons team. The team yes. Okay yes team two team they just duplicated. What Steve Nash? Anamar Marston Meyer. And My Dad Tony did with the sons they duplicated in Golden State but the warriors played defense. That was the difference. Okay and who is the the the the worst offensive player on the warriors. Steve Nash Steph Curry on the Warriors. They sit Sanja Curry. Thanks J.. Oh steph like Klay and dream of this great defensive players right so again right. So and and and what validated Steph. As a superstar was his ability to beat Lebron in the finals. That's literally what cemented him as a superstar in is legit legit. Mvp He had to beat the standard Bayer. Well which was Lebron Alley so if that is indeed. What made Steph a superstar? Then my the argument would be that on the court as well. It was still Lebron that defined the decade in the NBA. Well how can you do that. If steph beat Lebron on the court and then it'd Snafu define Lebron wants to yeah with less but see who won more three to one read one who warriors case closed then Steph. Yes that's it because at the end of the day it's well who got the chip. Who's got the trophy at the house? Who has more champ? Who's who won the won? The neck beat the best team in the history of the NBA. You're right that was funny. How that worked out because because they shouldn't have lost that one they should've lost one before she lost the first one? Yes they flip flopped right but again because of what Lebron represented prior fire to the wars winning their first one and then for them to to continue trying to win them having to go through the same dude and validate themselves because people saying. Oh Yeah but you lost seventy three win season. y'All wouldn't trash because of that. You couldn't be Lebron then so they're always fighting against Lebron as the stamp of approval for their success S.. So does it has to be Lebron defined the decade because of his success and he was the standard bearer for someone else's success. You could make that argument. But I wouldn't. Yeah so so what do you think it up on twitter. We've got a poll. A lot of people are saying depends. Here's what happens day. It really depends on where you fall. If you're Lebron Fandango say the Bronx you're Steph. You'RE GONNA say staff. We'll take more of those coming up a little bit later here on the Dan Le Batard show with Stugatz Gaza on. ESPN radio coming up next though. which team will grab the? AFC's final playoff spot titans steelers how much the CD really matter in the AFC. The Ravens are going to be. They have the number one seed right now in the West coming in but the clippers are clearly the better team there. Now to the Lakers. This season the first game Paul. George didn't play for the clippers. One in one in terms of WHO's a home game who was a row. The game doesn't matter same building. Yes everybody was there and the Lakers had a twelve point lead at halftime. Couldn't hang onto it and the clippers roll through. They won the game. They were the better team. There were two more gritty team and they seem to want more at the end and the fact of the matter remains the clippers right now or just a better team than the Lakers. That's as simple as that. I could say I'd like to see both teams play each other at at total full strength. What what is not full strength? I I don't think Lebron was at full strength going into the game. I mean he had the rib injury he had the groin injury re aggravated Groin injury. He played well. I understand that and I know we're not going to get one hundred two percent health health on each team For All these games that I wanna see but I think we knew going in if the clippers were the better. Oh did we though I think we did it. Was We watch basketball. I think the clippers were the better team but most folks still think Lebron ad or the better duo the better hand endoume total team offense and defense. It's the clippers. I don't think they will I personally right. There was never an argument. See Look I'm I'm with you on that because I just look because it's not just those two guys you gotTa keep going down the roster because Oh yeah Leonard Paul George Pretty Good too as as duo right so now you're talking talking about third player. Four player fifth player sixth seventh player because it was the clippers bench. You really played well in the second half. It was Lakers bench. Got Off to a great start Kyle. Kuzma came out of nowhere. Had the first half. He played great Casey Casey had some things going on but it was really dumb stretch. It was Patrick. Beverley making place. It was Mohawk making plays for the clippers. That's what I think makes them the better team from top to bottom. But because the Lakers had the best record in the West have gotten off to such a great start in the clippers had some games they lost team. They had no business losing to like. Oh Yeah. The opening game wasn't anything. Lakers got their groove better team. That's that was the feeling out west. I think for a lot of people and last night to me just again improved that you can have all the Glitz and everything you want. WHO's GonNa make the place and if it's not Lebron as not a deed then you gotta trickle down and who may want to of the biggest plays last night for the clippers? It was Patrick Beverley. Yes he had a huge huge offensive rebound at six one six to whatever. He is the lead to a bucket from Paul George and then of course he had the they call it a block to me. It was a strip but either way the way either either way he forced turnover when the brand was trying to tie. The game with the Lakers. Were down three so he forced. I was watching sports. I saw some stats. He forced three turnovers and he was over six over six shooting. Threes on him correct. Well if he was the primary defender on threes. You're not making not make him as a defend. Yeah and the clippers already have clearly defined roles for every dude on that roster every single. Dude the Lakers even now as we get the Christmas thirty games into the season. There's still trying trying to figure it out well. Unfortunately when you're on a team with the Bron James and this this time Anthony Davis you get to the point where you like. You're watching those dudes and you know they are the primary focus so you kind of like all right. I need to figure out where exactly fit in but still we got those two guys to bail us out so you know I'm just gonNA I might. I might fail over here because they're gonNA do. It is those are the guys that were depending on with the clippers. It was. Yeah we Kawai and Paul will. Paul had to come back from the shoulder but yeah we those two guys are there are there are big guys but still mantras Herro Patrick Beverley on and on and on. We are a cohesive unit. I I don't play to our full potential last year but this year with these guys. Oh Yes we're a unit and we are the better. We had a better team in Los Angeles Michael. J. Harris Harris in today for Dennis through here the Dan Le Batard show now to me. That goes to coaching right. So you have a couple of dynamics. There where the Lakers clearly had had more pieces to put together. This season than the clippers do did clippers had as you said an established core the played really well last season and they brought in to superstars to help him get to the next level but those other gritty roles were already defined. Because that's who the team was to begin with. Yep Right Patrick. Beverley is not playing any differently this season than he did last season. Now is he's a dog and but that but that's the role he needs to play for this team and it fits in with what they already have. Because you have Paul George and Lakers still trying to figure some things out. Whether what's what's GonNa be there finishing lineup for example like Frank Vogel still trying to figure that out like who am I five. This is going to end the game doc. Rivers knows his five. He knows his five is Harrow. Herald is PG is Lou. Williams Patrick Beverley. That's his five closing ames situation. I got my five. WHO's yours frank? Vogel still figuring that well I think Frank Vogel Hope when maybe on Christmas you've got a president with coups game yes because he's been kind of He was supposed to be the best player on the team. Yes right and last year he he showed out a little bit. And there's like oh great eight and this year not so much I mean. He's these ankle's fine. He's back from the injury. So maybe we'll see. Last night was a Christmas present for the Lakers. Kaku will be the third guy that will definitely show up on the regular basis but now we have this Lebron injury so now we're a little bit more about that coming up later with Lebron's injury. He took a knee from. Patrick trich beverly trying to take a charge course. He missed Sunday's game to give his body some time to rest ready for Christmas Day and he may be out again and Laker fans remember. Last year he got hurt on Christmas Day. A and that just plummeted entire season yet. Talk more about that coming up a little bit later. But here's something interesting for Laker fans to be concerned about and clipper fans to be really really giddy about the clippers from this point forward. They've had one of the toughest records to start the season. I think the sixth fifth or sixth toughest record to start the NBA season from this point forward the Oj. Have the second easiest standpoint coming up yes. There's a chance that the clippers could end up being the number one seed in the West if Lebron is out for a significant period of time and based on how the schedule is GonNa play out the. Yeah the Lakers got it was great star number one see. We're GonNa win the championship. Br You might not be that number one seed. Come April net nets setting up for clippers fans to go see well. I told you and Lakers fans to go to flip it and go. Well you know we just got you where we want you right as we got Lebron still an extra added focus on number twenty three look look I had A. I had a little prayer this past summer after an NBA free agency to NBA. Jesus and I wanted eleven games between the clippers. The Lakers this season four regular season Games and seven games in the playoffs right so far. These first two games have been everything I wanted from NBA. Jesus so thank you. NBA Jesus for answering my prayer to this point. But keep pushing. Because I need all eleven of those games would jerseys this. Jesus where it just says Jesus the NBA on Obama's migrelief Jay Harrison for dance. Today you can hit us up on twitter at Michalis at Jay Harris Paris. ESPN straight talk. Wireless everything for less only at Walmart. coming up later. Go more into the Lebron injury situation. What it could mean gene for him personally? But also as the Lakers as a whole how important would that number one seed be for them. And how long should he sit out. That's coming up later on the Dan.

"More golf tournaments in Jay Harris. Yeah. How many do you play a year? Well, the radio show is cut into that. Because unlike the NFL there's no that off season where you can just sit take a few more days off, I try and play in as many as possible. You know, I played in J Feeley, whatever he's in kickers in the NFL have a lot of golf tournaments because they have nothing else to do practice. So like J Feeley is a hell of a golfer Robbie gold. I played in his a bunch. There's an LPGA event. I go every year because I get to see her and marks Larry we all play in that one up in Michigan every year. I try to do as many as possible. I I would say on average on a good year probably ten on a bad year about five. Okay. So when did golf start how did you get into? It was it because it is industry or were you raise more. Yeah. Well, you would think right with that name growing up in Greenwich and Fava exactly mum's the and popsy at the club everyday five. No. There was nothing like that. I barely played as a kid. What you Michael you'll like this matter you will to what really got me into it. One of my first TV jobs was an Allentown Pennsylvania. And we had no kids at the time and my wife was working retail on weekends. So I started play. Golf because I had nothing else to do. And I started playing right around the ninety one Ryder Cup war at the shore Quila, and that was that to this day is still the biggest bare knuckle barroom fight of a golf tournament I've ever seen in my life. And it was so intense and that really got me into it. And that's why this day. The Ryder Cup is still my favorite sporting event of all time. Even though we stink at it. But that really got me into it. So I just started playing there and I fell in love with the game. There's no other way around it. Just you either you either become a golfer. You don't there's no inbetween, right? Yeah. That's when you hit that one perfect shot. You're either addicted or you're I just think it's ironic too that the one golf tournament that actually seemed like guys might actually fight because of how intense like Trevino was right. Then it seemed like there might be thrown out. That was what got you into golf playing. What did you do before? Then I watch a lot of damn TV. More than anything else. But you know, the other thing about golf, which is great for me is you're never you very rarely. Are you playing golf, you know, like, geez? This is terrible. It's ugly. This is not beautiful in the weather's not bad. Now. I'm one of those sickos I played around last Saturday here in Connecticut because it was forty forty one degrees and no wind. That's right. So anytime you can check off a December around. I'm all for it. I'm with you. Yeah. I can do anything above freezing as long as the wind isn't weapon. Now when you get out there, and how many connections have you made in friendships. Have you made playing this? Oh, it's been phenomenal. I mean that that's the thing that is so true about the old axiom. You you you you get more business done on a golf course. I can't tell you the number of connections and things that I've made through the game of golf. There was this tournament. They used to have every year called the Safeway classic, and they play it up at the old bayonet and black horse course in fort Ord, right outside Monterey, California. And it was the greatest man. And they're they're business people that I'm I'm. Associated with now simply because we got together in one of those programs and played in that tournament. And the greatest thing about that is that's when her I started at ESPN Herm Edwards who have now, of course, is the the great head coach football at Arizona state forks up matter. We all modern, Matt. But Herman I we we and we go up there a day early and it was a two day event. So we go up on a Saturday. We'd play Saturday we play Sunday..
How the Lakers are going to use Lebron James next season
"Yesterday irvine and i had a conversation and lebron echoed this sentiment that i think to try to play the warriors in their own game is a trap no one's going to beat them at their own game and so that's why we wanted to add these elements of sort of defense and toughness and depth and try to look at areas where we'll have an advantage it makes sense the explanation makes sense and i'll get to that in just a second but here's young misset espn reporter on the six pm sports center with jay harris yesterday explaining the rationale behind with the lakers have done this off season or it's interesting the lakers are taking a clear departure from how other teams have been built around lebron james in the past rob pelinka said that he saw how the houston rockets had some success against golden state this season particularly on the defensive side which may be a little bit surprising and that's why they went out and got a lot of tough grizzled veterans like regime rondo land stevenson to play defense also add playoff experience and rob pelinka said he magic johnson and lebron james all agreed on one thing they cannot fall into the trap of basically trying to be golden state at its own game young masek talking about the rationale behind with the lakers have done this off season around the brawn james now here's what makes sense to me because lebron was with the cleveland team forget this year okay go back to two years ago the nba finals golden state wins and five cleveland off offensively in a five game series shot fifty three percent they averaged almost one hundred fifteen points game they had three starters in that series shoot fifty four percent or better lebron averages a triple double nearly thirty four points a game kyrie irving averages twenty four they stood no chance of winning the series they lost in five and so on the surface yet we've tried this right we we've tried to surround the brown with guys who can make outside shots and more offensive minded team we may be sacrifice and toughness.
