"Time. Here are John cheever and Jim Russell. Over the Mariners in game one, they made it look easy behind Chris. Paddock in Manny Machado homers twice San Diego six, Seattle one game. Two of the series will be Saturday at six ten could be clinching day for the padres their magic number down to two. They need a victory on Saturday, coupled with the Cincinnati reds lost the reds by the way have won six straight taking on the white sox this weekend padres win it. Let's hear from the manager Jay Stigler. The way he was able to drive the fastball specifically down in the zone. Tonight I thought he was sharp with that. That's probably the most ground balls I've seen him collect. And just loved how efficieny was. He got some first pitch outs ground balls But that being able to go up and down use the changeup I thought he mixed some cutters mixed a couple curve balls in but I thought primarily, it was just efficient just driving the fastball to to worry wanted. So like I said was the most ground balls I. Think I've seen you know collect in. In his body of work and he he was exactly what we needed tonight. It seems as though he's been working on trying to get the ball down more consistently. The last three or four outings is the culmination of that continue to do that. Yeah. I thought he was well on his way before the ankle injury. So just being able to you know obviously be healthy show that he's healthy That was you know that that's a big step going forward and then obviously threw the ball extremely well, the night and so Hopefully, it's just more momentum that he continues to build down the stretch here. Manny Machado is third multiplayer game in the season for you guys or eighteen or last twenty nine Games, eleven, overruns, numbers even really fully represent how impactful in how his search has been for that angry I. Don't think they do b because it doesn't explain his defense in his sure Handy Ness and and the decision making once he has the ball. So. He's done so many things you know obviously over at thirty is running out to you know shallow right field and making plays and enduring things he's been up and running he stole some bases. He's been good on the basepaths. So he has been in my opinion as good of a a a player in the league. As far as being a team, it is what we know that he's been very close with Pernando? Going through at some challenges in the big leagues for the first time, how important is even in turns of being that venture fingerprint at this point? I think it's big now obviously tattoos being twenty one years old and having somebody right next to him that has..

"This could have gone one of two ways and the team is clearly responded to whatever the message is in the clubhouse. He's a rookie manager. It was never gonNA be perfect. It was unfair if our expectations were he was going to manage a perfect season. So let me be clear with that because that's hard to do but for him to be able to kind of laugh at himself and say they're all doing a good job good job of missing take sign with the bases loaded good on him. Based on what happened Monday night with Totti's you gotta give them credit there. That's funny. You know when you're self deprecating, that's that's the best quality I feel like somebody can have is they can be self deprecating and not take things too seriously and they can joke it themselves and they can make fun of themselves and they don't get all butthurt if you know someone is trolling them right. So that read there gotTA give him credit for saying that because some managers might look at the situation like you know they're. Just, move on never talk about it again but Jay Stigler understands what happened Monday night he came out epic backpedal. Okay. There's no way around it yet an epic backpedal on Tuesday morning and then what he said right there being super self deprecating knowing the moment knowing that he messed up you gotta give him credit for that they're all doing a good job of missing the take sign again clearly kidding as the padres have hit grand slams in four consecutive games the only team in major league baseball to do that and. To be fair about the bullpen. Because if Palmer it's wasn't available because of shoulder tightness, he had nowhere else to turn tonight because Quattro was down right he had pitch back-to-back days. Stamina was down. He had pitched back to back days. There's only so many guys out there. Tim Hill has thrown. Well, he went back to back days how about Tim Hill for a second just just real quick here Tim Hill when I started this year, we all thought. Okay. This is GonNa be like a lefty special type of guy to pitch against bellinger Max Muncie and Charlie Blackmon, and for the first two weeks of the season, he couldn't get anybody out right? Well, he was alive billion that one, hundred percent but the last two nights he's been great. He's been forget righty lefty right? Guy He's just got good stuff has sleighs, right? Yes. Save this team and without Tim Hill. went to by the sixth. You wouldn't have had enough outs in you I. Don't think they win these two games without Tim I'm you and here's the other thing. Here's the other pitcher. I'M GONNA give credit to Pierce Johnson these things are impossible for relievers i. mean you couldn't put someone in a more difficult spot that say, Hey, try to keep it team scoreless. But Oh, by the way we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA put a player a base, but try to keep them scoreless..

"Following every padres game in two thousand and twenty. We'd love to hear from you on social media tonight at John Shaffer at J. O. N. S. C. H. E. F. f. e.. R.. At Jim Russell D as again the padres win at six four ahead over the next hour, we're going to hear from the manager of the Padres J.. Tingler. A couple of times including in his press conference. Before today's game also after today's game, we'll of Noaa scores for you and we'll get you ready for tomorrow's padres. Ranger's game at PETCO again at six ten but today Jim after everything that happened post game last night with the comments after teases, Grand Slam the unwritten rules. The padres are able to put that behind them six early runs the bullpen did enough I guess you could say on. A Bullpen Dan, the padres win again, I think it was very fitting that the first runs of today's game were scored by a Grand Slam and I just WANNA thank we'll Myers for having account go to to to and to before he actually hit the Grand Slam very respectful on his part. So good on him not waiting till three Oh pitch to hit a to hit a grand. Slam. Yesterday still is on everybody's mind I feel like it's not really going to go away because Taty says now. It's it's hard to say, but he's elevated himself beyond what he already was. I feel like what happened last night has turned tortillas into a national story and it's a good thing for baseball because the national story isn't about something that toughtested tasted quote unquote wrong. It's everybody in baseball everybody that used to play. Baseball Hall of Famers in Baseball analyst who are extremely respected around baseball like Jeff Passan or all defending Totti's four. Making the Game Fun Making, the game exciting taking the unwritten rules in ripping them up. Well, that's what makes the post game comments buys manager even more remarkable. The fact that he called the three. Oh swing and the Grand Slam a learning opportunity for Fernando Tattoos and maybe that was misinterpreted and we'll hear from Jay Stigler coming up here in a moment petits. If you were wondering if there was going to be a hangover from Texas or or this club that didn't come today. In. The first inning in front of the Grand Slam he singled later in the game another rope single he was two for five. You know he's hitting the ball Jim as hard as anyone in baseball right now over ninety six miles per hour. That's average EV exit philosophy two more hits today a stolen base talking about unwritten rules the padres in this game racing to a six nothing lead behind Adrian more hone Teti. Stole third with two outs with a six run lead in the fourth inning and guess what the Pitcher who was on the mound yesterday and through behind Manny Machado to send that message Ingeborg, who got a three game suspension. But as appealing he was on the mom went T- stole third, and after that inning ended, he joined with tattoos and the padres dugout. So the Rangers at least could bow are still upset with what? What on yesterday and if you have a problem by the way with yesterday okay, that's yesterday. But if you have any issue with Fernando Tattoos junior stealing in the fourth inning regardless of score. Then then you're you're in the wrong profession Ingo and by the way I've got no issue with what happened yesterday. If you listen to the wrap up show on the radio and I've got absolutely no issue with this, you can't. Stop, playing at six nothing Jim because the bottom of the inning, the.

"Dennis row, which we're GONNA talk about coming up eight minutes why that's important that you can be a big national star here. It's not normal. 'cause you're not in a bigger market but these guys national deal with Adidas, a national deal I, think is what BMW or some sort car company here Dennis wrote about it that he's already starting to pick up those those types of deals early on when he hasn't even played a full season. Padre that you can remember the head national I don't think. These guys usually get excited when they get the cork he's pest control I mean that's The moment where you go guys arrived he's doing a commercial for corky talking to a guy and he's the last guy and he's a joyful player. As we've said, he really really is steph curry and he really really is. Patrick. Mahomes. Guy Like he is and he plays with with such joy. So I don't think anything happens today especially now that we know that the pitcher who threw it, Machado was given a three game suspension. One thing I was talking to watch out for was minor needs to figure things out minor who's throwing today for the Texas Rangers. But Lance Lynn, tomorrow might be a guy like we're paying attention to minor. Oh. Okay. Correct. If there's somebody here SORTA Kooky enough it would be a Lance Lynn type WHO's throwing tomorrow here Petco Park, Chris Paddock opposite Jim. You're on the post game show last night. I'm sure this drove the conversation definitely did there's there's obviously a lot more that came out today and then hearing J. Steeler talk and then the whole thing with the hosmer talking him on the bench we didn't know if that was if he was talking to him or not, and then Manny Machado getting thrown at people were mostly upset with Jason Taylor and completely, I feel like our overlooking what the Rangers did like this is all on Jay's Taylor from this fan base I feel like. Right by the the Texas Rangers, you mean coming into the game and throwing Amanda Machado Right I feel like that's completely being overlooked at i. feel like the anger instead of at the Rangers for throwing at Machado and bring up the unwritten rule baseball is directed at Jay Stigler for not sticking up for a superstar player. Okay. Well. We'll see if J. singler survives this very difficult moment in the show. I think he will. This is this is the moment and by the way, the picture that the Grand Slam has been placed on the restricted list by the Rangers for personal reasons and removed from the forty man roster. Giving up the grand. Slam there must be something else they're going on but. Yeah I mean, this isn't nineteen eighty, anymore nine, hundred eighty. You should expect something like that. You know that that sort of ethos still existed in the sport I really did think beyond it. Apparently? Not Apparently, we have to keep having these stupid conversations about what the proper etiquette is the situation. Getting nowhere here by etiquette, but I will just just based on your first your first twenty minutes here at twenty plus minutes here Darren and exactly something that Jason said in today's zoom press conference he is so tired of. Tired. Tired of them right..

"You started. I think a little bit I. Think guys trying to do a little too much and be the. you know spark that kind of gets it going and and sometimes that presses and things like that. So but I thought overall today ignore bats were were a lot better than they have been even though we didn't have anything to show early We're able to grind some at bats pitch count got up. We had some guys on Pinot. So hopefully, that's that's a little bit of the turn and we'd get things going. Teams hard enough as it is with. Regret for. That? One to count against the closer. It's it's it's incredibly hard. So It's There's anybody do it. You know I think it would be who'd be Garcia. You know it's it's an incredibly tough spot. They won't. Handle losses which makes us stop the SEPIA tone. A little fire but. Loses it can work both ways and that's that's what we've been waiting to get on and we have been able to get on a run yet so. I hope you know I. Think we have it in us to to get on a really good stretch and you know we need to start doing the. Evening. I. Died truly believe in this group I. Think I think we're more than capable of doing it and I think that's why I. Think the guys feel it and I think that's A big part of all the frustration going on right now is you know I think we got group that that you know can play complete the top tier of the League and just not being able to. Do that right now has been very frustrating. For me coming. Is. Dr Of, our word. All Right now I'm concerned on his hand. For for sure you know he takes swing and. Felt something and then you know the hand went numb. So I am concerned for that for sure I. Don't have a lot of information to right now though. Right Jay Stigler Post game you could. You could hear it in his voice and by watching it as well. I mean he is deflated and you can only imagine the way. This team feels right now I mean, think about the last ten days, Jim. Chris Taylor played home plate last night Matteo thrown out on a Bang Bang play to play tyron tonight a to run in the eighth and you lose that way you strand the potential tying run at third and tattoos and. They need to turn this thing around and they don't really have the momentum not just with the wins and losses but with their health yates FAM- Myers. The bullpen struggles it's like, where do you turn? Because it's going to become at some point at some point, we'll say it's going to be now or never you know and it's not there yet at eleven twelve it's really not there yet. But at some point, you're going to have to end this losing streak and it's GonNa have to come in. Arlington. Not I mean, you can't afford a seven game losing streak I. Don't think it is season first off Jay Sigler. Why wasn't drew pomeranz used in the eighth face Escobar with two outs? Sorry. I just had to get that out there. Kevin as you coming up I mean that it's the question of the day I don't understand it. Other teams have used their closers in the eighth inning before for four octaves Archie Bradley was used. I don't know just the other night for it. He just threw twenty-something pitches yesterday and back. If you'RE NOT GONNA, put out your best players in key situations and just hope that guys come through. Then you're not doing a good job at your at your job is just not and that's what J singler has that right now you've got three lefties in your pen maybe only two for that, and I know Tim Hill is not performed, but he's on the team. So you would think, he'd be up at the very least because if Palmer it's can throw in that spot, you need a lefty I don't care if it's strong who again is not a specialist he's a left-hander. Palmer. It's just been filthy against lefties and righties sense literally doesn't make any in that spot and I wouldn't I would not have been opposed to tim mill pitching that spot even though he hasn't gotten left out but it his job you are in if you can't come through then. He shouldn't be on the roster you missed of four game losing streak. This is not a must win game, but you you would want this game very badly. So you can get off that losing streak heading into. Arlington. To face the Rangers you do not want to get swept yet layoff game really put in your best option your best bullpen guy with two outs in the eighth inning to get out of that situation it's it doesn't make any sense. It's really really shows his inexperience as a manager. I say it's a place game not in the fact that if they lost the game, they can't recover we I get it. There's thirty seven games left. They could literally for every five game losing streak hopefully, they turn around and have a five game winning streak and they could be comfortably radically in the postseason. If that happens the reason I say it's a playoff game is because you need to treat it as such because you need to treat losing streaks. Like they need to be stopped and Jason. We're told US two days ago. We can't let this three game losing streak six or seven where. If you say that you have to treat it as such she didn't. He didn't and that that's on him like he's done some good things this year I'm not going to say that he's a bad managed. Occupants. Time with the where he has been exposed and we get exposed sixty games season, it could be the difference to making the postseason or not. Right. The fact of the matter is he is a rookie manager and sometimes this season it has definitely showed in the spots and he has not made I feel like a enough right decisions with the bullpen this year at all, there's been at least. Tonight counting tonight I WANNA say at least two or three times this year no, no is it least where to where he's had the chance to in the eighth inning to put in his best pitcher or even the sixth inning to put in the best possible pitcher to get out of the inning because as they say and they said on the broadcast Mark Sweeney did sometimes the save doesn't come in the Ninth inning sometimes, the save comes in the six or sometimes to save comes in the eight wherever the highest leverage spot is. Sometimes you need to use your best available player and read their your best available player was drew pomeranz because that was a safe situation to on to outs you have left yet at the plate. Yes. Granted he struggled all year but putting pagon in that situation to face him was. Was a really bad choice. I was part and listen to God deserves some of the blame there's no question about it. He was a closer last year in the American League. He's gotta be able to get you a cleaning up in lights out if he's been lights out this year, then I'm okay with that because he's been hundred percent. To. One one. Nine innings a allowed one run. Okay. You can live with it now he had pitched better, but he did not pitch well nothing at eighth inning to earn the right to face Escobar in that spot who yes destroyed this year but line down the second singled in the fourth singled in the sixth. And then banning to go ahead run against a right handed reliever as a left handed batter you know that he's thinking himself may what a break I don't have to face a tough lefty in this spot. The fact that they didn't go to pomerance in that spot he knew we had an opportunity if he delivered and he sure did deliver. All right. Let's read your tax on the other side seven, zero, four, seven, zero, start your message with x t ARA Kevin will join us in about fifteen minutes. "To lead. That's gotta be enough. This game was hinging on being toilet fault when he took out Robbie Ray and the bullpen there now granted Gary has been good for them but taking out Robbie Ray their corta have turned really bad for Loyd Torello and in the end it's I mean it's I hate saying it but that's baseball. It just turns like that in an instant you have one of the worst bullpens in the entire league again, give it up. Here's my question I think for the text line and the colors can be turned around. I? Mean we know that eighteen year in the playoffs in the National League and the truth is they could win tomorrow and be in playoff standings. So to speak back in the seventh or eighth spot at twelve and twelve now, one game over under five hundred excuse me there's more baseball in front of them than they've played but the way they're playing now you have faith in the padres turning this thing around all the injuries Kirby hates will Myers now Tommy Fam- can it be turned around? Do you think it can seven zero four? Seven zero starring message with all right we'll hear from the manager J Stigler, on the other side still Kevin AC will join us in our third segment actually sooner four seven coming up in about thirty minutes as the lose another complete stunner a disappointing loss in the desert there swept by the diamondbacks as the season series wraps up at five apiece Arizona beat San Diego today five four on that three run home run from Duardo Escobar and the bottom of the eighth inning we'll hear from Jay. "This is the wrap up show show race still suffering from a little blue hangover dropped the first game in Arizona each timed up break down everything that happened out on the diamond sixty games sprint continues get all the analysis all the highlights and all the reaction here from Jay Stigler players. In Division, a lot of teams that we've we've been facing all the time, all the players and then pitchers and hitters that we've been asking for some years and you now we go live to the extra thirteen, sixty studios, John Shaffer and Jim Russell. Vouchers. Lose the opener of their three-game series in Arizona. They may have also lost their all star closer from two thousand nineteen curb to leftist game in the nines with the parent back. Injury John Shaffer. Jim Russell with you Arizona takes the opener. They spoil a brilliant starting performance from Terrell Elson. Lament. Merrill Kelly actually out pitches lament here tonight in a five one victory for the diamondbacks. But lament deserved a much better fate as he goes. Six innings allows us one Raj for Jim. Russell. With you. We are with you for the next hour eight, four, four, five, seven, thirteen, sixty so much. To get into eight, four, four, five, seven, zero, thirteen, sixty text line we want to hear from you seven zero, four, seven, zero, start your message with extra. We're on twitter at John Shaffer Jim, Russell SSD we'd love to from you there. We'll hear from Jay tingler coming up in fifteen minutes in thirty minutes the athletics, Dennis lend terrific writer who covers The padres love scores for you and we'll get you set for game two tomorrow in Arizona at five ten but cheese Jim to Nelson lament. Again, flirting with a brilliant outing allows just a solo home run in this game. But the padres offense has been completely mired in this three game losing streak they're hitting one eighty two over these three games. All losses and lamented his part. But the offense in the bullpen did not and it's not like they haven't had any chances. They have had plenty of chances. They just have not come through and one of the main culprits to not delivering right now is Tommy Fan Tommy Fan tonight over four with three strikeouts. He said two. Oh, six on the year. It's time for a day off. It's time for a day off maybe two days off he can't be in the lineup tomorrow. I'm sorry you just can't be. He is not producing for this team. He's putting in situations where he is not delivering and he's gone out there with I. Mean Three strikeouts tonight it's it's not it's not pretty no, it's not and agree. With you I think we're at a point where Tommy is GonNa need a day and if he doesn't need a day, he clearly has to be moved down in this lineup right now he had a huge spot in this game against the pitcher like Merrill Kelly and we've talked about this I said this last night. Merrill. Kelly's really good. You'll only get so many chances. Tonight, the padres or two for nine with men in scoring position. One of those hits coming in the ninth inning trailing five nothing. But when you load the bases in the third in a scoreless game with only one out for your clinic battery Tommy Fan, you've got to make contact I mean, you absolutely have to make contact in that spot he struck out that hosmer. Lined out and the padres from that point forward did nothing against Kelly at one point in this game, he struck excuse me he retired twelve consecutive batteries. He retired thirteen of the final fourteen padres. He face when you get opportunities against someone like Kelly Jim. If you don't take advantage early, you're going to be inferred night like this and that's what happened tonight and it's Unfortunate for lament because again, he pitched a great game, the first two hits he gave up. Or two of the three hits he gave up excuse me was a shift hit to Machado where the runner you know beat it out and then a bunt single to left side of the infield because the Chicago shift. Yeah. So I mean really again, if you WANNA look at it, he's he only giving up one hit and his last two outings only real hit and real hit and Colquhoun is taking them deep twice right is that each of the last two starts at is yeah. So calhoun last time the solo home run. And now, cal Colquhoun tonight in a scoreless game to lead off the sixth inning on an o one pitch homes down the right field line and that gave the diamondbacks the. And then they scored four runs in the ninth inning. Five one victory. But now you're right I, mean you look at it also lament he. Wasn't. He has pitched like as he should not have lost this game because the padres need to find ways to score runs. They've had just eighteen hits in their last three games. They're hitting one, eighty, two in their last three games and Merrill. Kelly, again, really was was very tough on San Diego bats here tonight, eight, four, four, five, seven to thirteen sixty. Let's get your calls. We'll start with Mitch. Mitchell on the Lai John Jim. Thanks for calling him. Yeah thank you. first time caller longtime listener here. Would I'd like to discuss tonight is met I mean I think he's historian. Short tonight but he's quickly becoming one of the premier aces and in the major leagues what what's your take on this pitch count though I mean we treating with baby gloves so then go deeper into these games. I mean it it seems to compression to the game after he came out. Thank you for saying that Mitch because I was just about to mention that he's only you only through eighty-one pitches tonight through six innings. Why wasn't he out there for the seventh I don't I don't understand then you lengthen your bullpen you know you're having bullpen game tomorrow today was the day you let lament get stretched out a little bit more eighty-one pitching six innings. That's like that's nothing thrown out. There for a seventh he was pitching really well, if you have a bullpen day tomorrow, why are you taking them out after eighty-one pitches? One hundred percent agree with you. Now you go down one nothing and Mitch thank you so much for the call really good call and limit had everything working tonight I mean he had that filthy slider maybe hung a pitch to cal Hoon Calhoun obviously ripped over the right. One pitch no I'm with you I'm with you and and especially when you consider the struggles of this bullpen, and again, the bullpen does not pitch effectively in this game. Now you had a situation in the night were yates came on through six pitches than on his sixth pitch was a strikeout wild pitch he. Pulled out his right side and the indication at least from our vantage point and we'll hear from Jay Taylor will hear what he has to say we know he's been struggling with some type of back soreness and it looked to be something like a back ailment. So we'll wait to see but you lose Yates and Garrett has a limited time to warm up and he takes his time warming up and then he has nothing to thirds. Of An inning four hits three runs Tim Hill that allows a base hit after Gary. You use three pitchers in the ninth inning four pitchers in relief you're right I mean they were in the mid way were in the mid way mark of the year right? These are the Middle Third, Games. This has game number twenty one of the season and the kid gloves have to come off now you got to be concerned about winning baseball games. That's gotta be the primary, not just the primary. That's the sole focus right now, and today also lamented eighty-one pitches with the stuff. He has where Merrill Kelly's thrown over one hundred pitches I. Don't know if you did today he has this six, ninety six today, but he's been over one hundred. into the seventh that's my point. There was there's no double switches. There's no you know worrying about La- met coming up to bat in the next inning. There's none of that. So you don't have to worry about making that decision or the decision being made for you lament should have been out there for the seventh woods. Bullpen Day tomorrow only eighty one pitches. Like as good as Jason La has been this year, he has had problems I feel like with managing this bullpen and this pitchy Saffa Times there's times where you're wondering why is this guy in here? Why is this guy not there and tonight I just? The Mitch is absolutely right. Thank you for bringing that up because. You have a bullpen day tomorrow. Why are you going to leave your bullpen Kinda short handed on a day beforehand when laments only eighty one pitches? You let this guy go he is there to give the bullpen. I don't know some rest and tonight. US Pagan Yates. Garin Hill. Okay. Well, you lost Yates because of injury gone he threw twelve pitches tonight. You should be able to bounce be available tomorrow but. Gareth. You're not gonNA really in a tight game and Tim Hill just can't get anybody out. So yes and no. "Love and I can't blame anyone but myself well read about my journey as porcupine at Mark Merrill Dot. COM, remember your family I wanNA connect with mark on twitter you can follow him at twitter dot com slash mark Merrill. The padres win two of four against the dodgers will a weekend in the desert getting going again, we are talking about it right now on the wrap up show. Eero? Thirteen sixty. Time to react. San Diego. You're John cheever and Jim Russell Give the dodgers get the split by winning tonight in convincing fashion mookie Betts three home runs Chris. Paddock allows six runs in three innings. All dodgers eleven to over the Padres, we will reach your tax our next segment get those in right now your reaction to Chris Paddock's top night the split. In Los, Angeles seven, zero, four, seven, zero starting message with x Ray Rice. Let's hear for the manager post game. Here's Jay Stigler. fastball command being drive to the quality. Obviously didn't have that tonight try to battle it can get through. You know just just went missing too many barrels tonight. As far as their offense guys came out attacking reassuming first-inning old sudden got shut down. The risk adjustment. Heavier. Probably, a combination of both. The various kind of settled down and start making some ventures and that's It was good to see can with two runs out yet you got paddock on the mound you feel pretty good. Now at least off to a good start obviously, things turn quickly. Obviously Goals hype but. At the end of the walk out of La. Also. I mean we're we're frustrated. Disappointed especially after getting the first two and. Felt good going into tonight. They didn't happen, but it's going to be a quick turnaround because we've got we've got five more on the road. So these next five. They'RE GONNA turn determine how this. Will. Road trip. Last question saw. About Saturday. We haven't talked to them yet. But I. Think that. I. Think we're leaning. Towards cow that Get with Larry in AJ and the group afterwards team right here after the game. So I think that's where we're. You know we're we're thinking that's probably an option on the board, but we'll discuss make something official tomorrow. After wake this. Does it feel that you have. going. Feels good. But you know it's the. Same team we saw last time and and You know it's hard to to to see a guy. Gordon face the same team twice it's usually a little bit more. At being swerves you know the hitters and it's going to be the first time we've. Who played in Arizona this year at the luxury of having them in our place so it's going to be a different challenge for sure. Just, presents you baby valleys last season that he's able to bounce back you'd see your time. These Profit that outback was relatively. Now. CICELY. Lazy has done for. I think I feel very confident. He's going to bounce back and that's that's going to be are. You know basically priority number one with Larry and Fritz and that group I. Think you know what's encouraging stuff? So they're. Kind of look at the the hand speed the below the mechanics. matter of you know when he's out as best I think his fastball commanders. This. Sharp is sharp as we have him and you know Davies. Obviously spotted up really well, I think I think just not being able to drive. You know his four seem to the quadrants. Trying to Smalls leaking over middle of the plate. Thought Tonight. To we threw changeups in the garage usually and good, it's he's driving the the fast ball and change up is you know in the zone for a longer period of time? So just one of those nights. But I feel confident. He's going to bounce back. and. Get Rolling. Talking about fastball command against Taylor, postgame game padres fall to the dodgers eleven to i. mean you could just. Because you saw were hedges of setting up I. Mean that mid is low in the pitches up and away or the or the the midst away, and the pitches is middle in I didn't the he worked in enough. I thought a lot of the stuff was left out over the plate. He's attacking pitcher. He really has been it as one plus seasons in the big leagues. He has not been afraid to work over the inner third of the plate it has. Everything today was over the player away and again, you've got these really good professional hitters lefthanded batters in this land and they made pay all night long not tell you what when he misses his fastball man does he get rocked it's like they don't miss the hitters 'cause this fastball and he misses is straight as a narrow and he doesn't have that velocity going if he's gone ninety, four, ninety, five yes, he did get. Barreled up on some ninety six but that's the big leagues. Right. If you missed command, you're still throwing ninety, six, ninety, seven you're going to get rock every one of the big leagues can hit a fastball. You know what I mean you have to you have to locate it well, you have to be able to change speeds you have to hit like James Taylor told you quadrants you know you got to you have to be. Able. To work in because you want batters looking away, you have to be able to do all of this to have success against guys like mookie Betts who's been an MVP cody bellinger who's been an MVP cory seager who just torn the cover off the baseball in the first twenty games of the season. So it was not his night and now the question becomes Kenny. Bounce. Back in short order and that's the most important things. For the padres because this guy started opening day for you. When you talk about paddock lament and Richards, they need that trio to be very effective all year we don't know about the fourth spot right now in the rotation Jay said that it could be cal quadral on Saturday in Arizona, and then the fifth spot Zach Davis has been absolutely I. Mean as good as you could possibly ask for, but you're asking for a lot. To keep that up all season long. So I'm not telling you anything you don't already know if you're listening Chris Paddock has to be effective for the padres to have a really good year. There's so many things that have to fall into place right? Like Paddock's can have to be healthy and effective lament Kinney continue to pitch like this. The bullpen needs to improve the offense which has been very good need to get. Back. To where they weren't. It's not going to be easy this division with the rockies and the dodgers, even the diamondbacks and the giants. This is not going to be a cakewalk to the postseason even with eight National League teams, making it. So they're going to need to play better baseball than what we've seen the last couple of days for them to continue the success they had in the first couple of weeks of the. Season and when you're when you're pitcher like Paddock who has to pitch guy and he stubborn doesn't WanNa throw his curveball any third a couple of times got hit a couple of times tonight as well. Then you're GONNA get rocked. If you don't have command and not every single time you're out there you're going to have perfect command of that fastball. You're not going to be able to throw the change because guess what the? fastballs getting destroyed and it's just it's frustrating because when you are A to pitch guy and you can't throw a curveball consistently and then you lose commander your fastball you're done you're you're just.

"Ara You can tweet US Josh Schaeffer Jim Russell SD, we're gonNA hear from Jay Stigler against Scott Miller from Fox sports. San Diego joins us in thirty minutes and scores, and we'll get you set for the series finale. But Jim maybe, the padres were due for a night like tonight starting pitching was outstanding but the bats never got going against the starter. Tony. Got Stolen and the combination of relievers tonight for the dodgers it was just one of those games where. Looked like last year's box score I mean they they struck out I wanna say fourteen times tonight. Yeah. Fourteen Times tonight only four walks Tommy Hamshaw got three times for not goes. Oh, for for the first time. I don't think he went over but. He's been over this season I believe but he's reach base safely game coming in. So he had walked. Yes. So he he did not reach based tonight first time all year long he did not reach base Davies pitched beautifully too soft runs he gave up there who knows what would have happened if the ball doesn't go off his glove when he gave up those two runs in the fifth inning there. For no junior was positioned somewhat up the middle. We don't know I mean it looked like could've turned into double play but who knows there was just one of those nights where the dodgers pitching was just really really good dodgers pitching was really really good bullpen now as going eighteen consecutive scoreless innings I mean that's really impressive, and despite that fact, the padres have want to the three games in this series but you look at the way davies pitched it was going to be just one thing was going to. Be The difference in terms of giving give me one of these teams a chance to score run, and it really wasn't Davies fault. When you go back and look at that fifth inning, you know you don't like the little fork that comes back and hurts you later the inning Chris Taylor. But Basit Edwin Rios that's the ball you're talking about he lives it back up the box Davies nearly makes a play on it. If he does is a double play maybe it goes through there's a double play ball there. And then Austin Barnes had a ton of scored a run that inning was really a couple of soft runs. Now, the final score would lead you to believe that this was not a close game crack stamina last four runs in the eighth inning. The padres actually loaded the bases in the ninth inning against got Alexander but would not score against Kenley. Jansen. WHO retires the final three padres there in order despite the fact. That San Diego loaded the bases with nobody out and you look back Jim. I mean the padres had some early chances to on in the first against God's Lynn and Tommy Fan was ahead three zero with runners at first and second consul and worked back to strike him out then crow worth flied out, and then in the fifth inning a little too will myers a two out single by jerks pro far but then Came on and got. Fernanda tattoos junior strike out swinging. But there was a huge call in that sequence by Lance Barrett the homeplace empire when the cowboys to in favor of TAT's junior, he was throwing a pitch that was clearly low probably by six or eight inches. It was called a strike and then tattoos would later strike out if he gets ahead three. One there who knows what happens in the top of the fifth inning and maybe San Diego strikes first. Landsberg was awful tonight. Awful. Both sides of the plate I mean there was there was some pitches where even on the broadcast don and mud? No, that's not a strike. Everything down was a strike tonight, the strike zone was all over the place when that happens. It changes at bats for players. Guys clearly you know if it's if it's a to one count and the ball is low and you go three one, it's in the batter's favor. But when you call a ball a strike now it's not like okay. Got Protect and it just changes the COM. Era. That whole thing lands it was awful tonight. One of the worst umpire UMPIRING Games I've seen this year. Yeah. I think it was the worst we used to say when I worked in Minor League Baseball there was an adage that you know the difference between being a head to wander behind one and two and I know this was a to pitch but. The difference would seem being ahead or behind after three pitches it's about one hundred point zero batting average I mean consider that to want as opposed to want to is charges every points at a batting average. So when you're going up against a black tryin who's got such good stuff who retired four batters he faced, he doesn't need any help from Lance Barrett. I agree with you here. Here's the one thing I'll say to defend Lance, Barrett, he was bad on both sides like you said I wasn't. It wasn't one sided but. It's hard enough to score against the dodgers. It really is, and we know the padres have been among the better scoring teams baseball over five point two runs per game coming in. Fourth best in baseball but. Tony got some strikes at eight today. That's a career high. You want to know why? Because the zone was huge padres strike at fourteen times in total you WANNA know why? Because Lance Barrett was giving dodgers pitcher some breaks, the PADRAS batters had. Done very well in the first two games the series in terms of making contact and avoiding swings and misses and avoiding high strikeout totals. That was not the case though here tonight again, trying very good Pedro Baya's scoreless inning bruised or gradual had a big spot in this game. That's slider. Manny was filthy. You think he was thinking fast ball there the I think he was probably thinking fastball. But again, when you when you throw a one hundred, you don't have much time to react to the pitch that's being thrown but there was a spot where gradual came on the eighth inning. It was still to nothing at the time jerks and pro far who roots based in rich base to his three plate appearances tonight walks to lead off the inning so they relieve bias for gradual. And Tattoos on the second pitch grads into a double play. So it wasn't teach juniors night and that that will happen over the phone sixty games. Charlie blackmon today proved human for the Colorado rockies came in five hundred, one over four tonight. Chorus field. So Yeah tortillas junior human just not enough offense Jim I mean not enough opportunities obviously, not enough offense they didn't score, but there were just not many opportunities in this game you just go back to the first ending the very first inning. Grisham gets a broken bat single manny barrels one up hits a single to left. To on one out three Oh count on Tommy Fan. He ends up striking out. Tommy Fam- look we've criticized Machado for his slow start. Now Machado's done a lot better this past week I mean his average right now is up to two thirty three but he's hitting the ball hard everywhere and finally he's getting something to show for it but Tommy fans struck out three times tonight Tommy Fan I feel like either needs to be dropped in the order or given a day off. He has not looked good i. want to say the entire year he's had to me. One like the bat in Colorado the three run homer other than that. I can't I don't know what else he's done this. Yeah, and obviously that was a big one so you'll take that. Five. Yeah. You know it's not no, it's not good at all. That means he's basically slugging singles right? He's had no extra base hits on run single tonight was an infield single infield single in the ninth inning on the left side of the field you're right I mean. In Tommy fans defense and can I. Say this he came over often injury right and then we had the shutdown and then he had covert nineteen. So we didn't have the full camp and I'm not GonNa, I'm not making excuses I'm giving you reasons I don't think he would make excuses. It's been a really bad start. I think the first thing I would consider doing jim is benching, but I would move them. To see him about six or seven thirty. Cleanup hitter as cold as Tommy Fan right now especially when he's hitting. Two when he slugged in two, seventy five, he just swinging through pitches striking out a lot. He's not barreling up you know any balls right now it's time for him to probably move down in the order. I agree there and look if if it were me and Jason are knows way more about baseball than I'll ever know but. I mean we'll Mars had pretty game. One for two two walks saw the ball. Will and that four spot yeah. I could.

"You gotTa were down Grenoble. Get hit. Pretty good bigger. Guys get. Out The depth that you have to get. Out. Often advocate. Obviously, you know we we believe in those guys otherwise, we wouldn't have done what we did today, and so you know it's one thing to have a plan. That's great. But the truth is those guys piss just just great and. For. Two, of the guys not to do it. Without game rupp's in seven to eight days hats off in. I think Perdomo started the game with with a walk and then gave up some some contact but he minimize damage and I think you know plays like J. Chrome were to get us out of that that I that backhand play up and metal and he had scoop play later on in the game I think when Strom was and so. Really. Happy and obviously we do. We believe in those guys you're on this team. You're on this team for a reason and. Know there there. There's going to be a point where these guys pitch and these guys play and we need to keep them fresh and keep going because we're you know we talked about the the air we're gonNA need a big group of guys. So it's just nice to see them get their opportunity and contribute. Ken Jay Stigler post-game, talking about the fact that Kirby didn't pitch tonight because it was predetermined, which is what we basically speculated. Jim During the game because otherwise pomeranz likely would have pitched earlier that huge spot in the seventh inning against the left-hander in Peterson when stamina allowed to try to finish that inning against the lefty and he did get out of it begun came out for the eighth and then pomeranz there in the ninth but he said the General soreness he expected him to be available at some point in the next day or two if there's another safe situation. So hopefully, nothing significant. The good news is Pomeranz three for three and save tries including tonight sounds like gay hockey coach, her soccer coach. They don't specify where the soreness is. They just say general soreness. So we don't know if his with his pitching arm we don't know if with his back his, you know his legs like where's the soreness coming from? It was coming from his arm like. That'd be very worried. But if it's like a back thing which I think it might be. Probably best to give him the day there but still like just saying his general soreness. Now it's like where's the sort is coming from? Over the course of a season with a certain level of travel and doing what they do for a living I mean, it can occur obviously and then took a bus up to La and fly a plane. So probably a two and a half hour bus ride. Yeah. I mean I'm not overly concerned if it ends up being an extra day of rest which by the way in the first three weeks the season he said some extra days there have been some times you thought they would turn to curb gates and they haven't. So maybe there's been some soreness going on here or he hasn't been one hundred percent right for the first couple of weeks of the season. I think that what I'm seeing right now from the padres Jim is that good teams beat you in multiple ways like yesterday they beat you with their bats and they hit six home runs in the first innings tied of Major League Baseball record not ever had more than six home runs in the first innings of baseball game and they pound you to nine five win and then today they do it with pitching and you wonder if it sets up now for JAS tingler and GM and AJ Prowler, will they do it again on Sunday Arizona so What on Saturday excuse me well, they do it again Saturday in Arizona I mean when I when I saw transpiring the first thing I thought to myself what are they going to try again or not, and then you see the way it worked out and he said, well, why not do it again I mean maybe it doesn't have to be Perdomo to start maybe it's strong or Cointreau. But because of the depth because of a twenty eight man roster because Mackenzie Gore is still so young because you don't just have that sure-fire fire four or five guy, I mean maybe. Maybe jared I cough maybe there are some other names out there with this bullpen depth you're tempted to try it again until you get beat by and then if you do it against Saturday, all of a sudden next time that turn comes up Jim you're almost at the midway point of your season and maybe at that point, you start to consider some of your options like Mackenzie Gore and maybe it sets up with. Patino pitching so much on scientific point to you could have Patino. Start on. Saturday against the debate to have him be the the opener there instead of Perdomo which I don't really have a lot of faith in Perdomo. Now, I don't have a lot of faith in in Patino not yet but I think this is what they're grooming him for is obviously to be a starter so if you have him on the Roster Put out there in the starting position right he can pitch one or two innings and you know, yes, he's going to be jacked up his stuff might be all over the place but I like his stuff like Perdomo that's for sure. So maybe that was a plan all along like okay. We're going to have the bullpen beyond Monday instead of Tuesday game. So the bullpen, cal Cointreau, and maybe matt strong can have West. So when we do go bullpen on Saturday, with Patino already pitching yesterday, which was essentially as throw day maybe not as sturdy but like he was still lucy through forty dishes. So now who have that five days of rest and you pitch them on Saturday For the Bullpen Day and you have cointreau and strong ready to go because they pitch tonight and tomorrow I think it's a possibility. Maybe Patino throws like a hopefully of fifteen pitcher fewer inning in there almost like as your bullpen day before you throw maybe forty pitches on Saturday Dora game don't put him against the dodgers after what we saw on Sunday and then what we saw against the. Circumstance. Bigger down big could be a circumstance where I'd get them in. But this is like we've said I mean Jim, you know it's the West and he's faced a good hitting lineup in Arizona. A good hitting line at lineup in Los Angeles I mean he's still going to see the as in the Astros. Still going to see Colorado I mean there's not a lot of you. Know I mean if you're looking for Seattle all year. There will be two series against the mariners. This season there will be a series against the Texas. Rangers but he's GonNa face decent lineups this season, and if he's going to contribute. Like you're GONNA have to go from low leverage to medium leverage to high leverage and there's a lot of time. So there's still forty plus games left in the season for San, Diego padres moved to ten and seven by the way just a game back of Los Angeles Dodgers are eleven and six as things are tightening up right now at the top of the NFL west standing here's what we're going to do because we've got a lot of text to get. Tingler. We'll take a look around the NFL west. We'll get you set for tomorrow in Colorado as well for the padres I mean this thing GM, had a little bit of everything the Padras to their credit find a way. I mean this would have been as bad as they get in terms of loss but guess what? It's not a loss they score six runs in the tenth and they win it and they win the series. So I told you I had a little nugget for you. You did because you love all these stats and numbers and history and whatnot. But this bullpen, it's the first time in padres history were the bullpen blew back to back leads of four runs or more in franchise history? No. Yes. Is that right? Yes. It's the first time in franchise history. They've had two four Ron or greater leads and blown them. But no, it would have been if they lost right as they still won one of these two games, it's never happened in franchise history backed about four run leads never happened in franchise history. We got some bullpen issues John, we have bullpen issues. I need you to confirm that they said on the broadcast I need more. I believe don in mud. That is incredible. If that is accurate, that is an incredible statistic I leaving. I I find it really hard to believe I. Mean Fifty one years of baseball. They've never had consecutive days like we just saw. No, aren't we fortunate man the wrap up show started earlier this week and we get to recap what was really a wild night by the bay as the Padres win at twelve to seven they do so. With Pierce Johnson recording the wind Johnson WanNa know Tyler Rogers allowed those runs in the tenth inning. He falls to one and two on the season. This could have been a night jim where you would second guess James Taylor all through the evening and I'm talking about what went on with the bullpen the padres build a six one lead in this game and then could not hold it as Luis, Perdomo worked to One-two-three sexting with a six one lead. He then started the seventh inning and issued a leadoff. Walk to Mikey Stransky. At that point, a left handed batter Alex Dickerson do they don't go to a left handed reliever drew pomeranz they allow Perdomo to stay in the game dickerson singles the next batter Donovan Solano I don't think there's a hotter hitter in the major leagues right now Salata who tonight had let's see four hits and three more RBI's doubled in that spot then brandon belt another left handed batter was faced by Perdomo he walked him and then they went to pomerance anyway damage will be done. Five, hundred on the. Is that good. It's okay. Here's the thing I mean you can only get so much into the padres win but three run-scoring the seventh inning they should have clearly gone to. POMERANZ. Earlier and then in the eighth inning pagon again does not have his stuff that's been the story of the first seven games of the season for what was supposed to be your eighth inning guy he allies to Ron's and all of a sudden is six one deficits been evaporated. But guess what I mean. If they lose this game, we would spend an hour on it folks and they've got bullpen issues. There is no question about it, but they're five and two. And they're scrappy and they scored six runs Jim in the tenth inning and I think the big hit obviously was tom to give you a lead but then Greg Garcia pinch hits for will Myers and comes through and the padres tack on its we're six runs win twelve seven while you can be excited for the win absolutely coming up while after blowing the lead, the bullpen does that they fought back in that tenth inning. This wind kind of feels like it should've just never gotten to this point it should've never got to this point and I would have much rather seen a win or the bullpen is lights out then how they won tonight. A little bit resiliency a little bit of show something. I know I agree for sure I'm not trying to discredit a win I'm just saying. I personally would have rather seen this bullpen. Perform, then the same issues arise you see Emilio Gone I, mean he's given up and running every game. He's pitch except for Tuesday night against the giants. The the way that James Tingler. So far through these first seven games of the year that he's managed this bullpen. Some questions to be asked right Oh my God. There are things that he's doing where you are wondering wait. Why is that guy still in the game and why haven't you made a move in why isn't anybody up in the bullpen and why is this guy facing this? Guy Win. A lefties up it just a lot of moves that he's made. Bullpen wise. They don't make sense. This is the first night Jim. I'M GONNA put it squarely on him I think prior to tonight you could have had some questions about is this tingler? Is it prowler? Is it? Is this set before the game where it's less than the manager's hand and the relievers didn't come through and big spots but there is no excuse after Perdomo last fork in the seventh inning after last night. When you a six to lead, you've got to find a way to preserve leads and you've gotta get the final nine outs and you need your a crew and I. Think pomerance needs to come on after a leadoff walk to Mikey streaky there on the seventh inning I think pomerance has to come on and he doesn't come on for Dickerson, and then he doesn't come out for Solano any doesn't come on for Brandon Belt. And three score that inning clearly could have cost you the game here's the good news. It didn't because the padres offense came to life in the tenth inning. So tingler bailed out by his offense in the tenth inning he was bailed out by the way by Pierce Johnson who remember in the ninth inning and a tie game allows the leadoff man to.

"Sixty Games sprint continues all the analysis all the highlights. Chato reaches out at census out to shutter field that goes. Christian hits. This one deep Wakefield. That fall is back ball. Fred Russia with a second round of the year and all the reaction from Jay Stigler slayers the first one way make everything else go smoother now. Competed and you beat the doctors and. Now. We go live to the extra thirteen, sixty studios with John Schaefer and Jim Russell. stunner by the bay tonight, the padres seemingly had this one wrapped up with the giants rally by By four, one, six, two, hundred, sixty, six, three, they trailed in the eighth day and they come back to tie the game on Donovan Solano three run home run and they win it on the walk off from Mike extremity who has killed the padres in his two years in the Big Leagues John Shaffer Jim Russell with you here on the wrap up show we'll be with you for the next hour again, the padres fall for. The second time this year losing in stunning fashion seventy six, our phone lines are open. If you want to talk about this one, a heartbreaker by the bay eight, four, four, five, seven to thirteen sixty, our text line will reach your tax in our second segment in about fifteen minutes seven zero four, seven, zero start message with extra again, seven, zero, four, seven, zero, start your message with extra. You can tweet us at John Shaffer at. St and cow. Glazer from Baseball America will join US in about thirty minutes and we're going to hear from the manager Jay's Tingler as the padres. Shockingly Jim. Lose tonight seven six HAP, and you look back at how this unraveled and in the PADRAS. This year, they've blown late leads. Sunday against Arizona, cling to a one nothing lead. They lost that game four two and tonight a four-run lead against San Francisco giants team not known for their offense and the giants absolutely stunned the padres tonight coming back to walk off and win seven six. That's a bad loss. There's there's no way around it. That is a really really bad loss especially. In, this type of season when you lead by four runs. Are Controlling the game. It seems like Chris Paddock he pitched really well, he got out of some jams early. You know he only gave up two runs tonight go five innings, six strikeouts know walks. But then the bullpen at the end, there was strong and stemming. The bad loss there's no way around it. And this could bite them in the. But later on in the season, you can't help but think that in a sixty game year. You look at a home runs allowed by this bullpen tonight bed came on the sixth inning his first appearance of the year. Alex. Dickerson took him deep for a solo. shod then corrects damaged in the eighth inning and we're going to have to talk about this one. For, a good portion of this wrap up show because he allowed a one out walk and then a two out single Donovan Solano the third basement of veteran guy that hasn't had a ton of time in the big leagues. He hasn't had a ton of home runs either thirteen career home runs coming into that as bad and with two outs representing the on Craig's damage allows a three run home run to Solano into the seats over the left field wall that ties the score at six. Then match drop comes on gets out of the inning but strong still pitching in the ninth allows that walk off homer. Into the water off the bat of Yeahs Mike is ski and you wonder they're getting. You wonder in the eighth inning if they should have gone to curb AIDS. So do you go to Yates for four out save any eighth-inning after stamina allows a walk and a single and then the Tyron is that the plate and I think that's that's the big point of conversation here tonight. I think that is the conversation. Yes Kirby Yates two days rest. I'm going with my best guy, right you're in. July. What fifty four games left in the year. He hasn't pitched in two days he needs. That bounceback game, there's already two outs in the inning. Stamina is clearly not you know sharp his fastballs only ninety miles an hour. He's already thrown in three batters so you can yank them. Me I I would go with age there. I think a four out save and this type of season, and it's not early. We're late we got fifty four games left right every win counts way more than in one sixty, two game season earlier in the year. Yes. Everyone is definitely counts but they're more magnified now. So if I have a chance to throw my best guy out there. And if he does give it up okay you lose your best arm. You're not losing. With Craig stemming. Right, if I'm, GONNA lose a game I'm losing the losing the game with our best guys. Listen Craig STAMM has thrown a lot of good innings for this team over the last couple of years. Excellent Twenty eighteen twenty nineteen was not near as good or was not as good as two thousand eighteen and this is a very tough inning I mean to enter an eighth-inning against the giants team that again is not going to be a great hitting team. That's that goes without saying and to allow the two to reach what really burns. You is the without walked Alex. Dickerson. I mean to allow a walk when you've got the three run lead and then to bring the tying run to. The Plate and Donovan Solano who by the way against stabbing was three, four, eight in his career. So it had some success against Craig Stamina I. Think it's a it's a fair point to be made. We heard before the season from managers around the big league general managers. I think we heard from Jay Jay? Stigler that we're going to treat these sixty games like they are playoff games, and if this was a postseason game, Craig damage does not get to face Donovan. Solano in that spot. So. Now it's not a postseason game and Kirby H to your pointed not throwing since Sunday remember the last time we saw him he didn't throw well but this would be a spot where maybe you'd want to dip toes back into the water right I mean to onto out on the plate now, we only recorded two. Saves a year ago that we're longer than an inning right so a year ago only made three appearances I believe that were longer than any one of them was a blown save. Two of them he recorded save. So I think the question that maybe Jay Taylor was asking himself as do I, WANNA go for A. Four out save this early in the season and looking back now with twenty twenty vision you can say, yeah, they should have gone to in that spot and I agree with you if gates gives it up, you say, well, it's Kirby Eights and he had a one area last year. So you know in retrospect, what do you guys think seven zero, four, seven, Zero Start Your message. Or Eight, four, four, five, seven, or thirteen sixty. You could make a legitimate case that they should have gone to Kirby it's there and you could make another case that this is the type of laws. Then when you look back in a season, this short could be magnified to your point. All these things equal more than one game. If you multiply it out to one, sixty two and the two losses, they have this year Jim, they very well could have and should have won those games lately in both of them and you.

"If you're smart on the base basepaths, I would rather take. A twenty five man roster of smart baserunners than a bunch of speed, because I want people on the base paths that are smart like last night I'm watching the giants dodger game. There's there's instances for the giants like it was really bad based on make outs on the basis of some runs. Yeah, yes, you need speed, but. Being smart on the Base Path. Goes a long way. In a season and for team Jay, Tingler is one you know talking to the media just moments ago. What do you think about his lineup here tonight? Here's Jay Stigler. I'm just happy. The way. The guys played I thought Paddock. Set the tone. you know! The bullpen came in and was aggressive, throwing strikes and then. We played pretty good clean defense behind it and I thought the APP patches got stronger when when the game went on so Yeah, the the winds. Nice, but it's it's really. Refreshing to see the guys carry their game over to what they've been working on. Into the game tonight. It was really good to see. So congratulations to Jay Tingler Victoria's tonight in his managerial debut over the diamondbacks by score of seven to two. You want to get to a couple of these texts here. Seven four seven Zero Start Your message with x Ray, Jim all ask some of these to you, and you can come from the seven six. Oh, WE'LL! Myers is still hitless. Why was he the D. H. let me preface that he was in right field tonight, but we'll Myers at two very good at bats. Bats he walked to pair times. Yeah, I'm looking at how good these at bats are by. Are they getting on base any way possible and don't have the you know Sombrero night where you strike out three times just like no walks, and you grow up there and you're not seeing a lot of pitches, will myers. He had a pretty good game. I think he had actually really good. Game played. Really good. Defense and right didn't make any blunders and I'm based twice draw to. A hits walks. Whatever just just just. That's what you got along hoover too long. Move it along. This from the six one nine profile was awesome at the play. The ball didn't hit him or would have shook his pants. That was the play in front of his ten pitch walk where extended beginning in front of that Eric Hosmer play of the night. You just heard that three run two out. Double Fire, said there. He couldn't see it because he was wearing white shoes. I mean on the broadcast. I couldn't see it looked like it bounced maybe off the tip of his toe, but still came back drew walk set up their Cozma three-run double like. Your profile had a really good night. People are really thrilled with some of the at bats tonight this from the six one nine or buddy, slick, great discipline baseball tonight, great long at bats, even despite a few terrible calls of the plates, still two crucial walks to load up the basis for Hosmer, one of the Deepak relievers, thirty one pitches, and two thirds of any great win for the Padres, a six point nine. We should've had eight walks. Machado struck out in the ball was low..

"We have former successful managers Girardi and matted and and mckinney and then we have this new guy who hasn't managed to bigly club before wasn't a notable player but still has the kind of blend of front office and in Dugout experience. That would seem to be attractive in this age of trying to get analytics passed down from the computers to the clubhouse. Yeah I mean what else say about. That is like the combination of of coaching in front office. Experience like that describes a AJ hinch who confirm my money. Is the best manager working baseball right now. I also describes Gabe Kaplan who You know I it got by position him quite clear over the the past couple of years. So it's not it's not just the background it's the personality in how you implement it and I think we'll we'll get a pretty clear picture of that with Jay. Stigler is deserves. Serves a chance to to show. What kind of manager is because you never really know It brings up the the last one. There are still a few vacancies but the last one that's been filled as of now. Is David Ross to the cubs. This also felt telegraphed. I don't know like it. It says a lot about how meaningful 2016 rightly was to the cubs that David Ross who played two seasons as a cub and thirteen. Eighteen seasons for six other teams is now remembered as like this cubs hero. A when he was basically John Lester designate a catcher actor and yes he hit a home run in world series game seven and he was by all accounts a sort of spiritual leader of that team. But it's just very amusing that that is now his legacy when he spent the first thirteen years of his career bouncing around other clubhouses. Yeah I I don't know I think by dislike like for this hirers prejudice at least in part by my dislike for him as an announcer. You know I know. And that's like I will say like Dow is dumber one like I. Don't you know I he's not going to be on ESPN anymore. I think certainly the viewing public a winner in this higher He could do a good job Robert again. It's just another recent ex player in other feel-good higher with no experience. And like you know what is Hensley Mueller needs to do to get a bigly managerial. The job is like that. To my knowledge. He wasn't ever seriously considered for this. But like Dat would be he would be interview number one for me if I were hiring manager right now. And he's still like you lost out Aaron Boone and like I say Aaron Boone very similar background to Dave Ross. and He's been great. I think it's as Yankees Manager Blade. this is not the higher I would. Yeah Boone. Is I think the best case scenario of how this turns out Boone and other player who is I very fondly remembered by a fan base for something. He did in his playing days and was hired without the experience hired from broadcast booth but the cubs are in a really tough spot because as we have discussed they have gone from a potential dynasty to a team that missed the playoffs and they've had worse results in each of the last three seasons since winning and they have players like Byas and Rizzo and Bryant who are entering their final seasons before free agency. And it's just a tough spot for. You're someone who doesn't have any experience in this regard. I I think busty Baker wouldn't have been a choice in Chicago given history there but a manager like him. He's AH somebody like him. As is the guy you need. This is a really tough job. Even Girardi who was a cub could have been a pretty good choice here and Ross could end up doing a good job. There's a heavy amount of downside given the roster situation. They're in and it's hard to know what Ross brings the clubhouse. There was a report that he he got the job. Because of a mock spring training speech he gave in his audition which maybe matters. There are a lot of behind the scenes. Things that managers do that are probably more important than whether they choose to hit and run in the seventh inning by. I don't know that seems like a pretty weird criteria to use when making such an important decision Iranian Minoa to make of that I don't even know like so guess. Could you give an inspirational spring tanning speech off the top of your head. I ah I could recite the her book speech for Miracle. That's what I want to. I don't know how Theo Epstein Jed Hoyer react act to be saying I sick and tired of hearing what a great team the Soviets have bite nine times out of ten. We'd beat the Royal Split Spring Training Squad but not.
