"Loud and flashy, and then I was hoping for a limousine here I gotta be honest I was really hoping for a all. Mississippi a Cadillac. And so there has that's a bad thing. One would expect from the end sanders except he doesn't WanNa be wearing a mask. You want you to see that smile I'm looking forward to watching all of that. A lot of people don't know that. Dion Sanders. He was super prepared. Obviously holy may reached into his crib when he was young game athleticism but he was someone who took his job very seriously as a cornerback looking forward to see what this looks like. I. Agree I'm also looking forward to it. Of course, it's going to be a game changer I just WanNa know. Why are we making people in band wear masks? That band, they need their miles play their instrument and they've got masks under what are you doing? When you wear when you go to restaurant people like just wear a mask how do you get food and? Doesn't make any sense people. It's largely doesn't make any sense but yeah, excited about the sports thing you said all right but I need to understand that this thing is bigger than him like I have an Hvac Grad I care if ABC user ever good at football I do care ABC News, Take Care of the players they get make them into bigger men. We don't have to play the same craven corrupt game as everybody else. So that's where I have. The Diaz Adas is typically been in this. Four Dion Sanders and if that's what it's going to be, this is going to fail. This job is going to be hard as hell the whole the institutional problems you're going to have the resource shortages and all that stuff. This is not going to be an easy thing for you to do. But if he focuses on the players, then he will be a success. If he focuses on dion, sanders is going to be a failure and that's going to extend not just to help but through the school into. US In general. So Diop please I ask you very very to keep this in mind if you came to raise your own personal stock, do not forget only one person is ever parlayed. ABC. You head coaching job in to an F. B. S. job and do white and embarrassed school in the process because a whole bunch of hoodlums left him on campus when he left to go to southern. Missouri by the way, they just ran him out which is to say, don't do Jackson State Light Jay Hopson did alcorn that was fire Bomani. But I can't believe that we just watched a marching band entrance that was totally ridiculous and we didn't get to laugh about the entrance. That was an unbelievably strong now this is. Like Hey, Hey Katie, talk about the circus and then get out of the way because most gonna say something promptly, very brilliant doing TV with you continues to be an embarrassment to me because it's just unfair. Just say my dumb clowns thing so that bogut did. Yes you did. Each. You'll stay very.

"I mean it's it's fun. You've spent a Lotta Time College Stadium. You know that. Before Games. There's always a photo montage on the scoreboard famous alums. Southern, Miss Gang, you'RE GONNA find ten eleven, twelve photos of Jimmy Buffett pre-game every game he's he's one of the selling point by the way. Speaking of selling points a couple years ago the selling Ole miss was hugh freeze is is that a realistic possibility that you freeze ends up at southern? Miss I'm not going to say no, but I'm also going to point out too that. If freezes salary at liberty is what we think it is it would have to take about seventy five percent pay cut to make what Jay Hopson made it southern miss last year. So. Unless other miss has a lot more money at its disposal. Than we knew it did in the past the numbers just might not lineup freezes other miskelly did go there. But if you freezes going to stay in the group of five. I don't see why it makes the jump. To southern miss unless he genuinely thinks he had the chance to turn into a UCS or Houston or one of these. Schools. THAT HAVE THE CHANCE TO COMPETE FOR THE PLAYOFF? Yet. Not, many people were anxious or eager to take a seventy five percent cut but good point. I Nick always great to have you on. You'd be well toxin. Fantastic report air from Knicks us. One of our favorites we are going to take a break We have plenty of time for you to get in here at eight, five, five, two, four, two, seven, two, eight, five back with another hour and change on the first Monday of the SEC season. You're listening to Paul Finebaum show podcast. Yeah, we welcome you back great to have all of you here on a Monday afternoon. Let's check out Taylor. In South Carolina Hello Taylor Hey Paul big fan of show man. Thank you I just wanted to say this I know last year was tough for the gamecocks and I know Alinsky got hurt and he actually towards ACL in the Georgia game and the media never covered it. But you act like stopped Carolina didn't exist I mean to coffee dire something we're going to win more than two gangs, Paul Hey by the way I'm not. I'm not the one who said that that was one of our guests who said that. Okay well, I'm sorry. Sorry for that. But I think we're GONNA have a real shot to win at least five games this year and I know I know you think Tennessee's GonNa win on Saturday night but we're comes I usually one that gets upset when people put words in my mouth. But I've I've never said that I I just I haven't said anything about that game because I I think I think there is certainly more pressure on South Carolina I think this is a must win for for for well mush in the sense that. If if he loses his game with the schedule, things could get very difficult and that's not how you want to start a season but I'm I'm somewhat undecided I'm I'm really. Could. End Up taking. South Carolina. Right now I want. But the reason I say, this is after Tennessee at Florida at Dandy. Auburn at Lsu Texas. On. This I. that's that next six games is very dangerous and we still have Georgia and and Kentucky after the season. So. I I think the win against Tennessee You got a chance of winning one, two, three me I. Mean I. Think I think four or five. M We're going to be taxation in this year gotta get that monkey off her back. So. Knowing that schedule I just gave you how many how many wins do you see? I at least five but I that includes downside we Florida. Auburn Alabama. Georgia and Kentucky. Right, I I think we could win a Tennessee. Vanderbilt. Ole Miss offered. Texas. AM. And then we'll have one or two that we could possibly upset. Okay. That's what I think. Well, I With a win Saturday, we might have secondary conversation about this. Thanks appreciate. That's why they gave us. We have to go to a break. We're back for another hour and we look forward to talking to you..

"Terms of the Games this week what you must looking forward to. Here's what I'm most excited about. I am very curious to see what rat Lashley, the new offense coordinator at Miami and Dr King The new. Grad. Transfer quarterback. That they brought in from. Houston as well as they have really to freshman started running backs Jalen night and and Don Cheney junior what they do against a pretty good defense UAB is has had had a top ten defense alas or adopt twelve defense I. Guess it is the last two years. So I think that's an interesting match up to see how much different. Manny Diaz has program looks now because when we last saw them, they looked pretty awful against Louisiana. Tech. In a bowl game and they ended up fire on the offensive coordinator and They have definitely turned the page. So we'll see what they look like the other one. I really am interested to see is another one of the big three teams and that's Florida state they played Georgia Tech I have no doubt the Jeff Collins will get Georgia Tech much-improved as he. Recruits, ramps, things up. But also it's the first game from Mike Lavalle and I'm curious to see what Florida's dates gonNa look like because. They really backslid in the last four years and are they gonNA bounce back start to bounce back or where they headed to and so Those are the two that are most interested in you. Yes I'm a I'm an agreement that both of those are interesting Now I know that the the ABC Prime Games Clemson wake. Forest Russia bringing on Grace Rayner R. Clemson writer here in a few minutes to talk about the number one team in the country But I'm also expecting that game to be a blow out the one that interests me is do Notre Dame, for several reasons first of all, it is Notre Dame's first ever game as a conference member. This is an ACC conference game. In which there will be an AC logo on the field at Notre Dame stadium I mean, did I know unusual circumstances caused this but it's still a historic events There's been a lot of hype around Notre Dame I think in part because of them now being part of the ACC title race and certainly we know Ian Book He'll be back fifth year senior quarterback but there are a lot of new pieces around him on offense Running back receiver we had Pete Samson on here a few weeks ago talking about the importance of Chris tyree freshman running back and Duke you know don't sleep on David cut cliff. They're usually in the mix for at least a bowl game and interesting storyline with them. This season Chase Bryce, the clemson transfer who you will remember from that Syracuse game two years ago when the member of the crazy circumstances, there were Kelly Bryant, transferred you took the. four-game red shirt and transferred when he lost the starting Job Trevor Lawrence Trevor Lawrence then gets hurt in the game and Chase Bryce has to come in and bail them out they almost I. Think they need a big comeback to beat Syracuse. We haven't seen him since then he will be he was announced as the starting quarterback for Duke in this game. So I think that's the headliner to me sneaky under the radar one Louisiana Lafayette Iowa State. Yeah. I like that one too I think I think you'll also really good team and I o state is a team between Brock purdy and breach haw those tight ends I mean we really I think you and I, both are big believers in Matt Campbell I'm that is a good matchup. So there's a lot to be excited about this weekend. Now, there were games last weekend. We saw Byu just absolutely truck navy. You know we saw a big upset I think and that's what I'm about to get to here in a second I. Don't think anybody expected south. Alabama to go beat southern miss they were to touchdown underdog and so as a result, we have our first coaching firing of the season already. Jay Hopson out southern Mrs Coach termed as a mutual decision. We always know what that means, which means Bruce you. That's a breakout your first. Coaching candidates to watch story of the season about two months earlier than usual. and we don't expect a lot of movement on the coaching carousel because quite honestly there's going to be a lot of schools with a lot of expendable income to throw around a by coaches out of big contracts and then to commit to new staff. And quite honestly USM does not have a lot of money right now Jay Hopson was the lowest paid coaching conference USA and. He was making half a million dollars would certainly isn't a small sum of money but relative to FBI coaches it certainly is. So this is interesting because there's a bunch of guys who have some connections or would be intrigued by this job, and so I'm GONNA throw some names at you. You tell me which interest you and what your thoughts on first of all. and. This is a polarizing name but I, think it's a real one for this job liberty coach Hugh freeze hugh freeze is a southern Miss Allom. His wife is as well. They have a lot of connections down there. Now he's paid a lot more money at liberty than I think southern could pay him and liberty is committed a lot of money to their football program in terms of facilities and whatnot but his old boss Jerry Junior had to leave that school it was disgraced and left and scandal. And so who knows that you who the new leadership of that program is going to be but again? southern Mrs home to hugh freeze in all likelihood. It's possible because people of one there that's brought fall farve Alma Mater. There's there's you can get a lot of players there. Does he have a better chance and becoming a power five head coach again to do it from southern miss or to try to do it from liberty. what do you think a hugh freeze possibly coming back to the state of Mississippi. I mean is gross but unavoidable rose it's gross. While he oversaw an SE program that was that was that was found to have committed major violations Then of course, we know about the the personal thing that actually got him fired but you know at this point now that he has coached the season at liberty about to coach another one, you know he's there's enough distance now from that that it's not like southern Mrs not going to. Generate some sort of huge controversy by hiring freeze I'm sure people be very excited about it I'm sure he would win their. He's one. He has one everywhere. He's been I mean look I'm with you in this regard I mean he he left Oxford in a scandal and. He said he was out for two years and then Liberty Hired Eminence liberty but I think the. I think if if southern miss. Obstacle that route and he he decides he wants a job I mean let's keep in mind. I mean he's one everywhere he'd been he wanted Lambeth he's ten games. That is one year at Arkansas state. He won big at old Miss he beat and the thing is this is the part that I think people probably lose sight of. He's a good game coach I mean he beat Nick Sabin in Alabama a couple of times not a lot of people able to do that. So I don't know from there. Then I give you another coach who is polarizing but has been a successful coach and also has a little bit of Ole miss ties all not as much as you freeze and that is rich Rodriguez. Thoughts on that one. Just one quick thing more about free I mean. I maybe, I was a little too strong Tang gross but it. Bobby Pacino's coaching. Missouri state this week against Oklahoma Lake. It takes a lot for a coach not to get a second chance mayor. Remind you that southern miss itself. Jay Hopson tried to hire our Brian's as his offense coordinator a couple years ago before it got in the uproar was so massive. So I when I say I don't actually think it would be controversial. It seems almost inevitable that you freeze will move up again in the coaching role rich rod he is a polarizing figure I..

"And that's why he was fired. But apparently. This isn't the first time that Jay Hopson has decided that morals and ethics are relevant. When it comes to trying to win football games before being at southern miss Hobson wins at Alcorn state, again, not a big time program. What you've heard of Alcorn state. Steve mcnair. Sure. Have you heard about going state? And while head coach at Alcorn state. He reportedly recruited a person who was a registered sex offender. Who had been convicted of abusive sexual contact. While on air force academy after he was accused of raping a woman in his dorm. He also recruited a player who is thrown out of Vanderbilt who was convicted of facilitating the rape of an unconscious student in a dorm room. We a little pattern here. A guy who just doesn't seem to think that women matter. Here's my question on this PC, and I get I get so many of and I want you to help me figure this out we are in a society, and we know that it's such a hot button topic. Why in the world would you go after these players and make them a focus and a focal point of your recruiting pitch. Now. Maybe it's not just all in. But it certainly seems like he's not afraid to recruit these individuals were other schools. It would be a red flag. We're so concerned about. Being doing the right thing and being part of a culture and establishing a culture where sexual violence and abuse is something that there's zero tolerance on but he's going the complete opposite. Why does he just does? He not realize is he just tone deaf. Does not care. I think a lot of it is they don't care. The most recent incident of hops and trying to recruit a player who has got a sexually violent past. Apparently happened a month ago where where's the director and all of this? We're we're we're the boosters in all of this silent. Do you really want this to be something that your football program and your athletic department is known for is trying to bring these character of individuals to your campus reportedly last month? Hopson tried to add Charles west would be a Juku transfer. West is accused of raping two women at knife point. In his home in separate incidents. Is these are the kind of players that Jay option seems to thank our. Okay. And obviously has no problem with our brawls turning a blind eye because Hopson himself apparently has no problem turning a blind eye and the truth of the matter is for too, many people in culture, the athlete comes above all. And the woman is you know, what she was asking for it. She wanted. She deserved. It doesn't matter. My football player is way more important than some girl. Where's the president? Where's the chancellor where the regions where the boosters where somebody to say this cultures? Not okay. Where are those people in all of this is this really what you want your university to be known for your football team to be known for your athletic department to be known for this this blows my mind that I mean once things are going to go sideways on. On every campus. They they just they do things happen. But then you clean it up. And you move on. Topsy one of the biggest issues is that the incredible negative reaction that you have one that I had and it's the same one a lot of fans probably have the same one. A lot of alumni southern miss probably have. But those people who are in power to make decisions. Either don't feel that way. Or for whatever reason have failed to act when they did. And this is a this is not a problem. Indigenous to southern miss the problem. That's apparently not indigenous to college sports, but it is prevalent in college sports because we've seen the quote, unquote, metoo movement takedown athletics. Takedown businessman, take down people in Hollywood takedown people in government. Although government seems to have the biggest pushback figure. It's a societal issue. It is it is a societal issue and affects all range, but when it comes to athletics because athletics are such a big part of our culture. They are such a big part of our entertainment. When you see this kind of behavior, and it's a pattern. It's consistent. This is clearly not the kind of person that should be representing any university. This is not the kind of person who should be leading any group of men being any kind of position of authority in any campus. But those who have the power to remove him. Very quiet. And that to me is more disturbing. Then Jay Hobson's behavior because Jay Hopson doesn't need to be in that position to me. This could be a stain that. I don't know if the university can come back from something like this because you wipe it clean, you scrub it. But it's almost as if they're going the other way, and they're they're bracing this and. When do we get the backlash? That's that's what I want to know because this affects the whole university southern mess is this what you want to be known for southern. Well, look at it this way, you know, and McCall who was the athlete director and Baylor who was complicit in all that covering up with the football team is now the AD at liberty, which is a religious institution. That's the Jerry Falwell university. Kendall, brawls art son who was also complicit and had full knowledge. Well, he went from FAU to UH now is at Florida state. Clearly. There are plenty of schools that have no problem saying women don't matter when it comes to football. You see a guy like J Hobson running the football team at southern miss. If I had a daughter she'd never go there. I would never allow my daughter to go to a school that sends a very clear public message. We don't give a damn about women. All we care about is football. More people need to make those decisions. These guys need to be removed from their jobs, or as parents we need to be smarter about where we send our daughters to school. And it's got nothing to do with the chances of my daughter getting raped at this will not the point the point is at the school. If it were to happen to your daughter school doesn't give a damn. She's just another brick in the wall. As a father. My daughter is never another brick in the wall. And this is why clowns like Jay Hopson don't deserve to be on the sidelines straight. Calling all sports Jake plumber joins us now be nation radio curious to get your thoughts on Patrick Mahomes, very often. But yesterday, I was I thinking about what that game watching him play make multiple wave and just the way he leaves his appeal. What he brings onto the field. You feel the kid in hog heaven out there playing ball. This year at the NFL, but dying giant all getting into their. They are going to be going really do. And I think that the NFL deck and all those guys that are copies with cash are happy that the kid came along because I'm gonna want him just walk. Maybe the only guy I even want to walk now. And there's a lotta great play makers but watching him as my top choice. And can you get that you get entertainment value? You get people watching deserves to Tudo from anybody. That's an NFL football..

"Fifty five fifty five. Unfortunately, there seems to be where we get to this part of the year. Most news about college football is probably not that good outside of national signing day. Yeah. But you know, what we really don't pay much attention Hypo national signing day, we don't pay a lot of attention to it. It's not getting record big giant poll print headlines and stuff like that. If you are a major story in college football right now either a big time player transferred. And while shameless shells nice player. He's not a big time player or your program. Did something really stupid. Usually, we talk about all this college football player. Just got in trouble for this potential crime. But in this case, we're talking about a head coach. And I know that we're not talking about. Power five head coach. But we're still talking about a division. One head coach we are talking about a fairly. I think a highly recognizable school. I don't think there's anybody who follows college sports that is not familiar with southern miss. I think we all know it because it's spread fires alma mater, one of my best friends playing southern miss. Yes. He did. Yes. He did. And I'm nine million percent. Sure. He is not happy about this. But so then miss head coach. Apparently. Got some issues Jay Hopson after he was told by the university that you will not. The hiring the disgraced former head coach at Baylor. Art browse to be his offensive coordinator. Jay Hopson Klatt back at the university. Said brawls deserves a second chance and that he committed no crime. I would like to disagree with that see number one people don't deserve second chances unless they have earned them. You are not just automatically meet at a second chains, you want a second chance you're supposed to be repenting for the things that you did wrong or browsers not repenting at all. Backed up browse things. He didn't do anything wrong. Of course, there's a really well done report that says otherwise he protected thirty one players. Who are accused of fifty two acts of sexual assault violence. Tim. Victims. Fact nowadays the intimidate victims. But some of those victims got ran out of school. Victims were threatened. Some of them were just made to feel like they didn't matter..

"Sure security clearance is on a need to know basis. Five things you need to know. Number one. All right Bill so on Wednesday Forbes released its rankings of the most valuable franchises in the NBA with the raiders one. Oh, the NBA. I cut ahead of you joke. But the joke is on me. The raiders are not on the list. The knicks. The Knicks LA delay at four billion dollars. Really? Yeah. The Nixon number one vomit a Lakers at three point seven billion the warriors at three point five billion in the book. The bulls at two point nine billion in the Celtics fifth at two point eight billion six includes the nets rockets clippers Mavericks in heat. It's the fourth straight year that the Knicks top the list in their value e crease by eleven percent from last season. Meanwhile, the average MBA team is worth one point nine billion up thirteen percent from last year. I hate as this questions to feel bad. But I'm gonna ask you how far to clean up. I don't know. This is only one to ten that was published. So I'm almost positive Cleveland's been in the top five every year. Lebron's went back there. This is why Knicks fans you're in so much trouble. Because James Dolan never selling. Just it's worth too much money as profitable to the garden. So proud. -gratulations you'll always have. Number two. As we mentioned briefly earlier this week former Baylor head coach art Brian's interviewed for the offensive coordinator position at southern miss will yesterday to school announced that he is not a candidate. And that they would not have any additional comment on the matter. However, southern head coach Jay Hopson said in a statement, quote, I've interviewed our brows for an assistant position at southern miss. And I believe he is a man who deserves a second chance is Amanda team sincere and humble in his interview in personally, he committed no crime. He may not have acted.

"Straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts. I don't know. How many of you saw what happened over the last day or so at southern Mississippi? I just don't know. How many of you get southern Mississippi football notifications on your phone other than people that went to southern miss. I don't know how many people keep an eye on what's going on at southern miss. But they decided to interview art, Brian as we know formerly of Baylor for their offensive coordinator vacancy. They had an interview they sat down with them. They wanted apparently to hire him for that job. Now when I read that it bothered me. I value. Wait second chances on a case by case basis. Some people like to say, oh, I just believe in second chances. I believe in second chances. That's what this country is all about right? Give anyone a second chance. Anybody can change. Anything can happen. I don't buy into that theory. I think you have to go case by case. Some people certainly deserve second chances. Other people certainly do not deserve second chances when it comes to art riles I can only speak for myself. I do not believe Briley deserves a second chance to work at a university. I just don't I mean, let me remind you what happened. Just in case you forgot. At Baylor gross disgusting negligence. Baylor had thirty one players accused of committing fifty two rapes over a four year period. That's according to one lawsuit thirty one players accused of committing fifty two rapes over four years under the watch of Brian. You know, if you're the guy I can't stand when you have a college coach whether it's head coach basketball program or the head coach of a football program. I cannot stand when those guys stand up in front of cameras and in front of microphones and try to act as if they had no idea something was going on that was that was. What? What what what what was this program? Now, I didn't see any. I don't know anything that was you know, guy that used to get me coffee. I don't know what he was doing. You know, what drives me crazy about that? Those same head coaches or the guys that are making millions of dollars those same head coaches are the ones that get all the praise for everything that goes right with their program. Those same head coaches are the guys that love that praise. That soak it in that absorb it that fall in love with it passionately. They want the praise right? They've got as big of egos as professional athletes. Do they love that praise? They grasp on they hold onto that praise for everything that it's worth. But the second the second something goes wrong, right? They're always in control. They always take responsibility and accountability for the good things that happen. But as soon as something crooked happens, they run out the back door that drives me nuts in Brian's did that at Baylor. I don't know if you remember, but Briars was. Questioned an awful lot about what he knew when he knew it his reaction to what was happening at his program. And he stuck his head in the clouds. He came across as disingenuous he lacked responsibility. He lacked accountability. He brought faith into the equation to try to mask his involvement in what was going on trying to make people believe that on a dime. Things. Flipped things changed. So it wasn't just what happened at Baylor which was more than bad enough. Thirty one players accused of committing fifty two rapes over four years that that is puke inducing. But what Brian's did after the way they handled it made it feel even worse. Made it feel even more disgusting. And you looked at brawls at that point. You said that guy is the leader of men. That is the guy who was going to teach eighteen to twenty two year olds the right way. That's who is going to be responsible for the development of young men. Young men playing a violent game young men playing a violent game who most of their lives. Get what they want that going to be the guy who's going to lead a program. Yeah. No, thanks. Not on my time, maybe on someone else's time and on someone else's dime. But not mine ain't going to happen. I'm good with it. And I just think when I see a story like this. I don't have any children not yet. Anyway. Right. The wife's biological clock. It's like, Marisa Tomei? It's it's a ticket. I don't have any kids just yet. Right. But I always put myself in the spot of being a father in this instance. And I say to myself if I had a daughter if I had a daughter who is going to southern miss. How would I feel about this? If my daughter was attending that university. How would I feel about that university bringing someone in like riles just to have an interview? How would I feel about that what I have less trust at that university? Then I had twenty four hours prior to finding out about Brian's sitting down with the coaching staff and with the higher ups at that university. How would I feel what I feel as if my daughter was less protected would I feel like my daughter was in more danger? What I feel like something could happen at that university. Now that I would look back at in regret. Not pulling my daughter out of that. University. How would I handle all of that? Again. I'm not a father. So I can't tell you with a one hundred percent guarantee how I would handle something like that. But I could only guess I can only tell you how I feel about it right now in what I would imagine. I would do if I had a daughter attending southern Mississippi. I would do what many people did I would be writing to the university. I would be making phone calls to the university. I would be asking the university. Why in the world they thought it was a good idea to even entertain our riles on the coaching staff with his history. That's what I would be doing. That's what my reaction would be. And so that's what happened a lot of people called a lot of people started to ask questions as soon as this became public. People were wondering why southern miss would do this. Some people might believe that browse deserves a second chance I'm not going to pass judgment on those people. This is up to every single individual in what you are personally comfortable with. I'm a UFC fan. I'm not comfortable with Greg hardy being in the UFC. I was not comfortable with the UFC putting Greg hardy on the same fight card as a young woman who just went through domestic abuse with her husband months earlier. I wasn't a fan of that decision. I'm not going to punish the rest of the UFC roster and not watch them and help them actually pay their bills and put food on their tables for their families because of one bad apple and Greg hardy. But it still didn't make me feel good. So people will make their own decisions. But if I was Baylor I would not even have brought Brian's in I could not wrap my head around giving that guy paycheck to develop young minds in lead. Young minds. In what's tough about? This is the only reason that southern miss backed off was because of the blowback towards the higher ups the head coach Jay Hopson came out. And he said I pretty much I'm paraphrasing. But I don't get it. Brian was making decisions at Baylor that he would not be making here. Hopson does not understand what the issue is that the issue is Brian would be dealing with young men. Whether it's as a head coach an offensive coordinator, a quality control coach on the sidelines. Whatever it is. He would have a hand in developing young men. And with the track record that he has. That's an uncomfortable feeling. That's an uncomfortable thought. And if Briley is going to complain about this if he's going to feel bad about this. If he thinks that the reaction is unjustified. It's on him. Not on me. That's not my fault. It's not my fault. How I feel about you. It's not a me problem, man. That's a you problem. You made your bed as my mom would say now, you got a lion in for everyone else out there. And southern Mississippi made a mistake. They made a mistake by even thinking that aren't riles was someone they should bring into their program. I don't even know if they regretted let me publicly they'll say now, this, you know, it was an interview is an interview we we weren't really thinking about it. We we brought him in. Greg Madison to be the defense of the new defensive coordinator for a high of stayed in that left. Greg Shana looking for a job, and he has his, you know, very clear connections to pro football. So that sort of make sense. I think what the patriots lost their defensive coordinator to the doll doll. He. Yes, he was a linebacker coach baby. Anyone? Yeah. He was a Cody see out of place. I barely know college football. Let alone stuff in the NFL. I did do by the way. I don't know if you have at at the ready. I watched I sort of watch the Super Bowl what a drive chart. Oh, no, what a drive chart I posted it on the Twitter feed. I record by go out to the Twitter and look at the drive chart that would've been an epic drive chart on this show. Not just one team really the entire game. If you went into that game looking for a pyrotechnic offensive. Play what she got was really low rung SEC defensive football. Yeah. It was not even Alabama LSU back in the day. It was just bad defensive minded football's what it amounted to. I'm not going to sit here and say, I don't enjoy all things. Wade phillips. I don't know if you saw cowboy hat, I I kind of have reshi eight all things son of bum. I'm not gonna stand taller than that. But it was a rough watch at times. I I'm not an NFL guy at all. I probably watch two or three NFL games this year. So that was one of them didn't really do much for me. So the other thing by the way before we get way too far down in NFL path. There are plenty of NFL podcast. Fearless new listen to the Bill Barnwell show. Goes are good bomb. Okay. We should mention that you see the bridal stuff. Yeah. So our Briley supposedly had a conversation with Jay Hopson, the southern miss head coach about becoming their next offense coordinator any had that conversation without the school's administration knowing and if you're going to have in our browse conversation, you're you live in the corporate world somewhat tie. Well, that's what happens we put out a call across all the channels Twitter Facebook, do we put on Instagram? I don't think we put on Instagram. Questions on the Graham. We didn't do the Graham. I mentioned this yesterday when I was doing solo Spain for ninety minutes, but glad to have someone to bounce off on this. I feel like you'll agree with me, but our Brian's name floated once again for a potential job. And this is usually what happens when somebody has been shamed. Due to controversy due to in his case, basically aiding abetting at the very least, you know, fostering, a culture apologizing for rape and assisting. Those escaping any credibility for it. We see their name pop up here and there and here and there and the public reacts the team pulls back the public wrecks. The team bulls back until eventually the public is not as enraged anymore or they've. Lost track of it. Or they've given their all in the figure it's all handled. And then that team sides it's worth it. And so what we saw was southern miss was they decided it wasn't worth it. The outrage was clear, but instead of merely accepting and the head coach of of southern miss Hopson. I forget his first name right now. Jay Hopson, it is decided to post this. Although I respect the decision of Dr Rodney Bennett, I disagree with it. I am so grateful for the grace and forgiveness. God gives me which allows me to inherit his kingdom, which I do not deserve. I have interviewed art browse for an assistant position at southern miss. And I believe he's a man who deserves a second chance. He's a man that seems sincere and humble in his interview and personally committed no crime he may not have acted in the proper protocol. But that would be my job at southern miss. He was interviewing for an assistant position. Even though I believe will be a head coach at a major program in the near future. However, I believe he's a man who does love the Lord and deserves a second chance he has been banned from employment in college football for three years and has been punished. I understand. On both sides have opinions. This is just mine. God bless Jay Hopson will lose four religious mentions in there, we we like to thank him for for having the time in the class to put it on his iphone notes and screen shotting. Right. And throwing it out only the most professional in Syria is I'm dealing with someone who is a rape apologist. So we're talking about twenty some odd players involved in fifty two months, fifty two alleged sexual assaults and over five gang rapes. And this is the message that you're coming out with guess what he doesn't have to work for you. And your university said that this little bit too much heat. He still hot is still hot. Because people still care. You know, why people still care because you are telling victims that it doesn't matter football still football. Whether it be the Dallas Cowboys, the CFL other other people that have taken this the scratch and sniff test on all our brows, and we're in the cancel culture. Right. We're we're trying to figure out who gets cancel why you cancel people who deserve second chances. Well, you don't have to be the person who give somebody a second chance. Somebody else can do it. If you feel any kind of way about it. You know, it's kind of like hall of fame, you know, hall of fame slam dunks. If I if I have any trepidation, maybe maybe removal and even in And the the Lord. Lord into it as many times like come on man, right blueprint stuff. Right. And we saw that at liberty Witter. You know, there have been a number of people related to this Baylor program who have gotten jobs at places, including places like liberty that purport themselves to be held up by these religious, beliefs and standards. I think it's disgusting to use God's grace to excuse something as self serving as wanting to make your football program better. He's not saying.

"No question, there were Baylor as a university at its highest levels was either oblivious or flat out ignorant of or maybe even disregarding of you know, the proper way to adjudicate cases of students, you know, saying they were sexually assaulted whether they're football players are not that happened. But you know, what also happened in extremely large number of players who are Brian personally recruited and brought onto that campus work used of and in some cases, convicted of sexual assault. There were gang rapes reported. These are guys who he whose character. He either vouch for or overlooked or whatever. So, you know, when people say he deserves a second chance, I don't necessarily think it should be, you know, blackballed from football entirely. This is very specific to a college job where you are back on a college campus recruiting young athletes, mentoring, young, athletes dot. That's where I draw the line. And that's where I think the president's other mystery the line if if somebody wanted to go higher are browse as their quarterback coach in the NFL, they probably take some backlash for it. But that issue of campus safety is not something you're dealing with in the NFL who by the way, if if in McCaw was so much and so much of a believer in our Brian how come he didn't just hire him, which I think you freeze will win games there. And I don't think what Hugh freeze did. And to get fired was Eddie or near as as a grievous as what are riles got fired for. But if in macaws there, and he knows that how me we'll call it didn't just go out and hire him. I guess maybe there's some sort of there is an actual barred liberty that that actually won't cross. Although it seems right now that there isn't in fact, Jay Hopson has put himself on the hot seat, you know, already with his team's performances on the field. I can't imagine calling out your boss helps we'll Jay Hopson be Hugh freezes. Offensive coordinator liberty next season.

Coach Jay Hopson in a statement after the school. And now, it's our browse. But not be hired for their offense coordinator opening after an interview Pablo does brow deserve a second chance. He does not. And this dude Hopson put this on a screen shot of the notes f which is the official app for making things worse for yourself because he pointed out in this. You know, the reason why he didn't get the job was because you know, there's an NCAA investigation. Right. And at the same time there. Here's a quote, although respected decision. I disagree with it. I believe he is a man who deserves a second chance. Amanda, seems Seyran humble in his interview. And personally he committed no crime out of acted improper protocol. But that would be my job. It has job. Oh, not anybody else's. So it's all bringing our brows except for you know, the NCAA investigation into all of the terrible things of Baylor cares about the investigation. I don't write like investigation is not the reason not to hire. Our browse reason not to hire browsers because he's our riles. You can't do that. Period by the signal that you give when you take this van, given what happened at Baylor and say, no, he can go ahead and work for us. It can never ever ever ever ever be that. "Who joins Murph and MAC every week on the Cambier morning show is reporting that the Niners are going to be starting Nick Mullins tonight at quarterback against the raiders. So Nick Mullins that that's the news. Nick Mullins is the quarterback CJ Beathard is is I guess the number two quarterback. If Mullins goes down, you know, I don't know how much I spent a half hour this week. Just looking at Mullins. We're gonna talk about raiders this segment. We want us Mullins high. No seriously. It was sad to sadly kids like dad, you know, what I want to be for Halloween. I cannot get time. I'm Nick Mullins. I'm knee-deep in Texas San Antonio film. Sorry, get out of here. No. But anyway, Nick Mullins undrafted free agent in two thousand seventeen tonight. He takes his first NFL snap six one two hundred and ten pounds twenty three years old. I don't know how much you guys have seen of him average arm strength guy, kind of a below average velocity guy as far as that. But moxie lot of smart, very tough very competitive. And a guy who was the conference USA star. Basically, this guy was one of the best player of the year in the conference USA in two thousand fifteen and he holds a lot of records of southern miss. And of course, we all know Brett farve went there. But this is the first time we've seen him. And in the preseason he threw for three hundred ninety six yards, but three picks and the number that that worries me is forty six career picks at southern miss. So we'll see tonight, but he's getting to go what he gets thing. I mean, what a great team to have your first NFL start against. I mean a team. They really can't defend the pass very well. And they're not very good at the run. So it's a good opportunity. Like, we said, it'd be in the show. I mean, I think we know what we get with CJ Beathard. And it's good to see what else you got on the on your squad. What else is in that room? Now, the thing is if he starts throwing pigs do you put CJ better than or if he gets hurt? And then now you're hurt quarterback goes in. So you know, I it's good to kind of see what you have. But you know, I I think we know again. I mean, we have preseason on him. And he had a pretty good preseason game. Once I think he had ran a great two minute drill. If I remember correctly and then against the Texans. He threw a couple of picks. So you know, we'll see what we got. Now. One of the stories that is I found particularly entertaining. I shared it. With Gary today is that twenty sixteen Mullins playing for southern miss against Texas. San Antonio dislocates his thumb on his throwing hand in the middle of the game the bone protruded through the skin and he asked to have the bone pushback in have the wound stitched up and return to the game. He did that is that a true story in threw a touchdown a true story. It is a true story. Right. Sounds like a sufficient debate does sound like a crazy story. But it's a true story. So his his college coach, Jay Hopson. It's other myth says he meant as a football player. Matt Brita says he's a baller, man. He he's he's going to be a starter. Some day. Kyle says the guys believe in him. He's going to get a go tonight. What do think Joe? The guys believe they're supposed to say all those nice things guys. Don't believe in him. I mean, like you said the best thing I could say about him is the last number four from southern miss was pretty good. I don't know anything about Nick Mones. I saw in preseason. I mean, I wasn't overly impressed. He hasn't gotten a chance. But you know, what we're things have happened. I mean, Kurt Warner was bagging groceries at playing for the Iowa barnstorm is I mean, anybody can do anything. I would as poorly as C J is played at times. They'd probably rather have CJ because if CJ wasn't better than Nick Mullins, they they would have been playing Nick Mullins this whole time, but you were dealt the hand that you have and we'll see. But if you're the raiders, I mean, they had to be kind of the every team has Intel, and you don't need to be the patriots with a with a video camera to know what's going on. I mean, they probably had had an opportunity to look at Nick Mullins and probably go back some tape. There's a bit of an advantage because you don't know what Nick Mullins is. But they know what this offense is and this it's not going to change. Now. The one thing that I would say would make logical sense. I don't know if this is the case, but if the raiders are blasting both then you're probably going to lean on your running game as much as you can you're gonna try to keep Nick Mullins at a third long situation. Some pretty obvious stuff here. Keep it short. I don't expect us to have you know, thirty or forty throws a not gonna expect a bunch of difficult passes. I think the first play of the game if they don't run it. It might be play action to something short to give them some confidence. Mean, it's your basic stuff. We're talking now CJ is a second year quarter. This guy is a flat out rookie quarterback. So this is first action. So easy stuff. Confidence building stuff. Run the ball play defense. Nothing too crazy. I mean, that's probably what you're looking at what you're gonna do. You're gonna get would you gonna put six seven in the box trying to shut down the run and say, hey, Nick, Mullins, you got to beat us with your arm. So and it's going to be, you know, a smaller playbook, you know, Kittles should have a fantastic game. I'm bigger he's gonna be targeted a lot probably won't see much stretch another field, but you got to build. This guy's confidence a little bit. And it starts with your running game. But I can guarantee the raiders are going to stack the box and shut down around and say now, you gotta pass the ball. I'm sure rich scans Torello has been coaching them up. I did think he was funny. He played exclusively out of the gun at southern miss as supposedly he went to YouTube to study how to take the correct footwork on drops from center. That's how little he had done you know, from under center. So we'll we'll see what he looks like in the on YouTube is at an expert on time YouTube yet. But if you look at the numbers, I mean, this kid could athlete according to a lot of people. He's he's, you know, a kind of a tough kid who's who's not afraid that the moment won't be too big three and a half year starter at southern miss. The three numbers at jumped out to me, though, forty six career picks a lot Twenty-three career fumbles. That's a lot and twenty three balls batted down in the last two years, and we've seen a lot of that recently. But but they're going to him. And you know, here's a guy that data Hattie almost a six hundred yards passing Dame college against rice through for five ninety one against rice and owns most of the records passing records in conference USA. So I really think that the the number that Trump's I it's all a lot about. I'm sure how better grips the ball. And how he is throwing it and physically today with the thumb and the wrist, but I really think when you look at one completion over twenty yards last week against Arizona. I think that would make if I was Kyle. I think that would make me open minded to take a look. Look at at this young kid and finding out what you got. Throw the ball down. What you've got to see what what else you got on your roster. You know what I mean? I think last week with CJ worst game by far. I think he's been proved I think he's improved from year one. And it gives me proved entire seasoning last week. He had a bad game. And then he's banged up to. But still you got to see what else you got on your roster. And like we talked about Mullins United decent preseason. You know, he's playing against maybe the twos and threes a little bit. Maybe some fours in there. But you got to see what you got this guy. Thirty one of forty three three ninety six a touchdown three interceptions in two fumbles was his preseason. And again, look I that can mean nothing but a touchdown three interceptions in two loss. Fumbles you go back to the old turnover thing which last week, by the way, we were crowing so much about turnovers. They did just win the turnover battle look like we were talking about Dennis. And you know, it's a young quarterback in his first game. You like you said stack the box if you're the Niners tried to run it as much as possibly keep him out of third and longs. It's easier said than done try to build some confidence early in the game. And and see where you go from there. I mean, it's it's a it's a small playbook, and he's going to be out there. Just kinda plan kind of you know, out in the yard. I mean, just kind of let it go. I mean, you know, he's probably not gonna over think things. He's going to be out there having fun. And that's you know, that's a positive thing about it that he'd just be out there just kind of thrown around. I'll be interested to see what kind of game plan. They have you know, he if you if you watch this kid throw the ball a little bit. You can see kinda hangs the deep ball. Little bit is not a ton of. Arm strength. I would imagine you may see the forty Niners with a lot of stuff that crosses the quarterback's face. And and you know, guys who lacked the big time arm strength. You don't want them thrown it necessarily all the way across the field. I want to try to keep it in the middle of the field. We'll see the raiders have had their own issues in the secondary at safety. Ryan Kobe checks in from faithful mile. Thanks, Larry rank Kobe hanging out here at faithful mile forty Niners raiders fans alike rolling in sun is shining little hot out here today. So maybe bring a light show for later when the sun goes down, but right now, so let's cooperate and barbecues out there in full effect. And let me just take a moment to remind everybody to behave today. This is professional football. It's supposed to be fun barrier. Represent yourself today. And we know this is a big regional rivalry. And we know forty Niners fans and raiders fans. They're not supposed to like each other. And that's great. But keep your hands yourself in. Remember, you're not players you're fan so act accordingly by the way in this rivalry thirteen meetings. All time between these two franchises. This is number fourteen tonight raiders have a seven two six advantage all time their last meeting was back in December two thousand fourteen. If you remember Jim Harbaugh's final season raiders on that game twenty four thirteen. Derek Carr had three touchdown passes in the game. And you know, I understand. The one in seven in the raiders at one in six. These teams have had a rough go, but in reality, this is these two franchises have combined to win eight Lombardi trophy. So Jon Gruden now taken over in Oakland coming back with the team moving to Vegas. It's a franchising transition. Trade Khalil Mack traded Amari Cooper. So a lot of changes air. And of course, the forty Niners definitely have their work cut out form. Of course, the guys just told you according to Adam Schefter. It's looking like Nick Molin is going to make his first career start CJ Beathard on the short week. Just couldn't get the thumb together. And I just want to read this quote to you real quick Jon Gruden who did a pre game interview with Howie long raiders legend is going to air before the game. He said that Ray players are quote dying to come play for the Oakland Raiders. He said I got a cell phone like you and everybody else I get a lot of phone calls from people saying that they're dying to come play here. I'm just telling you they're dying to play for the raiders into have salary cap space and of a chance to talk to the people that you really want to wear the silver and black. The you really went through where the silver and black represent this team. That's exciting. Okay. Coach we sell see they do have five first round picks and the next two years. And by the way, Cal prog marshawn Lynch been dealing with that groin injury. He's out so Doug Martin in. Jalen Rashard are going to pick up the slack. And by the way, a little bit later on. "He's got three college picks and an NFL pick with us four us, I should say. But let's the biggest trend of interest or surprise Scott that you've seen as a pertains to college football this week. Well, I think if you look at like key games, for instance, this week, maybe one of the bigger surprises is that you see is just getting no action right now in a couple of books out here. One sided betting on Stanford seventy percent of the tickets. Eighty percent of the money coming into mccardinal after a poor, rushing performance last week against San Diego State guys. But I watched that USC UNLV game with interest on the rebels last week and saw UNLV gain over three hundred yards on the ground and get Southern Cal in UNLV did that without threat of passing game to be thrown into it. So I think people around the country would be shocked to see that US's just getting no love at all. But you know, they've only covered three of the last sixteen games, and that's part of the reason Scott. I, a listener talked to psalm during the summer when I was out in the pet, they love your sharps. They often aware the sharps are going with some of the games today. Give us like two or three examples of that. Scott couple of them that we can throw at you here is, for instance, you know, western Michigan at Michigan sixty eight percent of the tickets are on the Michigan. Wolverines the public, looking for him to jump back here and get back in the win column and delete. They're laying twenty eight to western MICH, but sixty eight percent of the money is on the team for the back western Michigan. I think some people will be surprised by that. Also we've seen in that Duke northwestern game with western starting to drop down to two and a half after. Being three, northwestern big public side eighty percent of the tickets on the Wildcats sixty percent of the overall money is on Duke, which shows that the sharp money, the wiseguy money. So to speak is on the underdog, blew doubles, and I'll throw one more at you guys, a huge disparity between tickets bet and money, overall bet Arkansas lane fourteen at Colorado state ninety percent of the tickets on the Razorbacks at one particular major book, but ninety percent of the overall money on the other side that is huge sharp versus a public situation with a sharp all over Colorado state. All right. So there you go difference from one side to the other there, and that's why wins, because they went to those. Let's go with your three segment place. Got ripples through them for us. Okay. Let's start with you l. Monroe in southern miss that line right now is southern miss leeann about six and you l. Monroe comes back with eight starters on offense. Guys. They piled up the points and the yardage last year. Their biggest concern is there defensively understand that, but we don't feel southern missile, be able to put distance between the teams. Thanks to the war hawks, scoring ability. I grab the points here. What you all Monroe in. Remember that old Hattiesburg, you know, home field advantage. It's not so much anymore because about half of Jay Hopson losses. There have come in front of the home folks and they don't have their preferred quarterback Quadra Griggs. He's out indefinitely due to suspension. We went ahead and grabbed the points with you. Oh, row came. We talked about Scott Florida. Dept swap hosting, Kentucky, watching Kentucky challenged in terms of the passing game where you're going in that one Scott. Well, I think one of the coaching gets so to speak of the year is Dan Mullen going to Gainesville that he brings up in open offense with him. You saw him go through the air last week in Philippi. Franks in love with this coaches off, it's a play calling at five first half touchdown, passes the up thirty eight, nothing against Charleston at halftime dial down. But the defense was outstanding. And I think both units will come up big against Kentucky. They're a little bit down this year. They were pretty bad. Through the air against outmanned central Michigan team. And you know, you've got Wilson and Hoke had quarterback and they were highly ineffective, twenty-seven pass at temps only one hundred twenty eight yards. Couple of picks in that one..
