Jay Leno Breaks Several Bones in 2nd Accident

"We wanted to talk about something that is, well, I don't know if we can really call it funny because it involves a very funny guy, Jay Leno, but this guy, it turns out he keeps getting seriously injured. We heard a few months ago. Yeah, for a few months ago back in November, he suffered second degree burns because he was doing something in his garage and it ignited. Well, hold on. Let me read. This is from an interview with Jay, I know, talking about this. He goes, I was underneath the car. I didn't had a clogged fuel line. And I asked my buddy to blow a little through the fuel light and boom, it hit me in the face with a quart of gas. There was a spark nearby and ignited it in my face caught on fire. I mean, it's hard to chuckle because it was. It was horrific. And we like Jay Leno, we're not like reveling in the verdict of Jay Leno. I mean, it's so sad. But he was very much, you know, like, hey guys, it's fine. It's fine. It's good. I'm good. And then. Well, what happened is this actually is amusing. Apparently Jay Leno had a second accident, but he didn't want to tell anybody about it because there had been a whole bunch of news reports on the burning. And so he thought, what the heck is so the second accident? Well, let's talk about the second accident. This is a motorcycle accident. He has multiple broken bones. And I think he broke his rib cage. Here we go, you got a scar across his neck, two broken ribs, two broken kneecaps, and a snapped collarbone. And then, of course, being Jay Leno. He goes, it's a little painful, but it's not the end of the world. Well, he goes, a 72 year old man driving an 83 year old motorcycle. What could go wrong? So, I mean, the thing about Jay Leno, first of all, this guy loves anything that moves. Any type of vehicle. And the faster the better. You know the Ellen's 204 stars. I did. And 168 motorcycles. He talks about that when he was on The Tonight Show. He talked about all his car collection and all that. So I knew he loved all that.

A basket by KJ Adams with ten seconds left in the game was the game winner. Adams finished with 15 points, Grady dick led KU with 21. "Adam Fox scored one 16 into overtime to lift the ranges to a come from behind win over Dallas. And sent Madison Square Garden into a frenzy when he scored with less than one second remaining against goalie Jay gottinger. When I got the puck the second time I saw anger was just kind of standing there and didn't really look like he knew where the puck was, but by the time I think he realized where it was, it was already in the back of the net and I think he had enough time to react. The Totalitarian Left Is Trying to Destroy Distinctions

"Is our vision as conservatives? We know their vision is one of despair and confusion, the destroying of distinctions. One of the things that totalitarian left wants to do for our society is to destroy the distinction between God and man. Between man and woman between good and evil, they want to blur the lines that allow us to live in a free and stable and civil society because you know what they get a lot more powerful that way. But our vision needs to be clear and bold. How about this? We want a country where our kids love America again. We want a country where kids are taught about Jefferson and Madison and Jay, a country where they're taught about Abraham Lincoln and the beauty of the declaration. And the constitution of the federalist papers. We want a country where kids are taught that if you judge somebody on the basis of skin, you are a racist and we should instead care about character, not the complexion of somebody's skin.

Winter weather upends water systems across the Deep South

"Many communities across the country are struggling to repair public water systems appended by days of freezing temperatures. I'm Ben Thomas with the latest. Retiring Ohio State senator Jay hottinger said his last day was not going well. Oh my gosh. He tweeted video of water pouring from the ceiling into an overflowing bucket and pooling across the carpet in an otherwise empty Senate chamber first pipes have been an issue all over the country wherever that Arctic air settled in and froze the water running through them. But the days of freezing that hit the Deep South areas that usually freeze for only hours has created a crisis for many local water systems in Jackson, Mississippi, mayor chokwe lumumba called it a worst case scenario. So many broken leaking pipes does not enough pressure in some residents have been without water since before Christmas. Similar problems and Selma, Alabama, Florence, South Carolina, at least 16 water systems in Georgia, Clayton county distributing bottled water. Same in Memphis, Tennessee, officials in many locales encouraging people to leave faucets dripping because moving water is less likely to freeze. I'm Ben Thomas

Southwest under scrutiny after wave of storm cancellations

Lines stretching through airports southwest already canceling more than 2500 flights as of Tuesday morning on top of the almost 3000 Monday leaving Cara direct and Millie Carlson telling ABC 15 their stranded. They said no one's getting on a flight, a Southwest flight for four days, and they said we can't help you go home. We're going to sleep on the floor, I guess. The U.S. Department of Transportation saying it's concerned by southwest's unacceptable rate of cancellations and lack of prompt customer service, southwest blaming the weather, spokesman Jay mcvay. As the storm continued to sweep across the country, it continued to impact many of our larger stations. And so the cancellations just compiled one after another. Audio courtesy, KTRK. Caller: Brandon Straka Is an Example of Good Cooperation

"Todd, I would like to address this when to compromise and when to cooperate situation. So there are bad examples of compromisers. John Boehner, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy. Trump had a lot of people at the table who turned out to be traders and loyal to the other side. I know he wanted to get opinions from a lot of people. That's interesting. Didn't totally work out. But so example of good cooperation, I think the log cabin Republicans if they're for freedom in fiscal policy will buy galley you could probably work on a few issues. I think Brandon straka is an excellent example of who to cooperate with. He, as you may know, he's part of the walk away movement. He's brought, he's a gay guy. He's brought thousands, tens of thousands of Democrats out of the Democratic Party because of their anti freedom oppressive cancel culture ideas. He's I don't know if he's still in prison for Jay 6. Awaiting trial, but he is, you can upload, if you're a former Democrat and I am, you can upload a video to strike his walk away campaign, detailing how and why you got out of the Democratic Party. And so I think strike is a good American and we should help him get out of this idiot January 6th thing. He's a gay person. We're not going to agree as a Christian. My gay associates, Friends, know very well, what I think about homosexuality. So we're not going to work on that issue, but as far as freedom issues, I think you can work with the brand and strike as the world who do believe in freedom and so I think that Paul Ryan and the Kevin McCarthy types is just a no go because they always betray us.

The RNC Needs to Be Held to a Higher Standard

"There was a powerful article that was published last evening by Jennifer van law. We're going to have her on the program in a little bit. Analysis of RNC spending since 2017. The only first by saying this begin by saying this. That when we analyze and we judge the Republican National Committee, the GOP, especially the committee itself, it must be held to a higher standard, it must be held to more scrutiny than almost any other organization and I'll tell you why. First of all, the Republican National Committee is a very regulated organization. The Republican National Committee can not receive unlimited donations. The top, the most that they can receive from a person or a couple, I believe, is $750,000 per year. Now you might say, well, Charlotte that's an extraordinary amount of money. It is, but super PACS, as you saw with George Soros, putting a 120 million in can raise a lot of money very quickly from small amounts of people. The Republican National Committee can also coordinate with campaigns. So the RNC can work with state committees that could work with the Arizona Republican Party. It can work with the Georgia Republican Party. The RNC can also pick up the phone and talk to the Herschel Walker campaign. Could talk to Donald Trump's campaign. They could do things called Jay V FCs. That's right. JFC is joint fundraising committees. For example, they did this with Donald Trump and it was called Trump victory. So used correctly and used properly. The Republican National Committee, the GOP, is able to go places that super PACS legally are not allowed to go. So for example, super PACS that you might see American crossroads, which was Karl rove's deal or priorities USA, which is a left wing one. They are not allowed to pick up the phone and work with campaigns. They are not allowed to pick up the phone and work with state committees. They have to be separate. They have to be walled off. They're not allowed to coordinate. The Republican National Committee and the Democrat National Committee because they are parties are the only organizations that are allowed to coordinate on messaging on strategy, on resources, on funding, and especially when it comes to the state committees themselves.

Why Didn't Trump Bring Paul Whelan Home?

"You know, I want us to be in the informed group of people. And you know, Tucker Carlson and made mention on the show that waylon, the reason he didn't come back is because he's a Trump supporter. And they believe that slo-mo Joe creepy Joe geriatric Joe did not want to bring him back as punishment to him being a Trump supporter. But you know, I would love to hear what Tucker Carlson has to say because I didn't see a segment I'm just reading the article about it. But I really I really want Trump to explain why he didn't bring whaling back. I want to know what would happen in. Because I'm telling you, this is the thing. Leftists say some of the stupidest things. Some people come on my social media and they say the dumbest things that I've ever heard, they come on my social media and they go, you working for the white man. You were somebody said something crazy. Like I'm taking money from somebody and I'm like, I wish I wish they offered me some money. I probably would have taken. But they say things and they could not be further from the truth. And I always want to make sure I'm not that guy. And this weyland situation, after my wife did some digging, I said, well, hold on, hold on. I didn't know that Trump had an opportunity, and he did his prisoner swap and did not get waylon. I didn't know that. And so I want to know why Trump didn't get him. Because it's the same reason why Trump didn't get him Biden and get him, then we can't criticize Biden. Is the Trump Stock Falling?

"All right, ladies and gentlemen, let me talk about a finish what I was saying about Brittany griner. You know, you know, one thing that's funny, Sean told me in the break and my wife told me about this yesterday, Brittany griner had a domestic violence charge, at least she was arrested for domestic violence. Back in 2015. Now, Brittany griner was a man and she had a domestic violence charge against a woman, they would they be telling leave her over there. Want you woman beat her. But she a woman beating up another woman or whatever she did to the woman, it's all good 'cause she LGBTQ. Anyway, Trump, let me read what Trump said. Because I think that's why Trump is losing his stock value. I forget the numbers that I use, but I told you, when in 2016, Trump was at like $800 a share. And then when he by the time he got to 2020 Trump was really, in my opinion, before the COVID, Trump was at like $1500 a share. Then after COVID, during the 2020 election, Trump was down to probably like $1100 a share. Which I think he was popular enough to win the presidency, but you know how 2020 went. And then I'll investigations probably got him down to about a $1000 a share. And then when he went out against Ron DeSantis, he went down, he went down to about $500 a share. After coming out against Ron DeSantis in such an epic time of Ron DeSantis his success in his career, a Republican success and then I believe that when he did his speech, he think he went back up from $500 a share to about $800. You need to be around 12, 1300 right now to win. So he went up to about $500 a share. And then he met with Kanye West. And a white supremacist. It went all the way down to 500 back down to $500 a share. And then what he don't realize is that him coming out against Brittany griner, he just probably went down to four 50 a share. I don't know why people are not advising Donald Trump. Stay away from these issues. We'll talk about it. You need to be the president. You need to be presidential. You need people on both sides to vote for you. I don't.

Who Is Paul Whelan, And Why Is He Still in Russia?

"I want to finish this conversation about Paul Whelan. Just a couple facts. I'm gonna cap this if you just now watching. If you didn't know, the controversy between Paul Whelan and that girl, I mean, I don't want to make fun of it because Brittany grinder do look like a man and she sound like a man, but she is a girl. She may be one of those situations where she was born with both or whatever. That's irrelevant. So let me talk about this, you know, there's the controversy of whether or not our country should have gotten a marine back over Brittany grinder, who's a basketball player. And a funny thing, yeah, she plays for a team in Phoenix, called Phoenix mercury. And I've been living in things south 18. I ain't even know they had a women's basketball team. I didn't even know Brittany grinder live here. Women's basketball is such a joke. Not the women, but the basketball organization. But anyway, just so just so we're up to speed, Donald Trump was in office. He did not get way back. Joe Biden is in office now, he didn't get waiting back. Waylon's family is very upset because they believe that the swap was unjust. And I could see why they believed that. Waylon argues that the flash drive was supposed to be holiday photos from another person that gave it to him. I don't know why he had $80,000 in his pocket. Simultaneously, while swiping, swapping a USB driver somebody, however, his claim is that he was set up in a sting as if the Russian citizen that he knew was I guess a part of the stain or something of that nature or they tried to set him up and framing and they gave him a flash drive then they busted him. But if you ask me, you know, that seems way too juicy to be true. And I think that I would love to see information. However, it was all done behind closed doors. All of the court, everything was done behind closed doors and there's no evidence or information to give anybody any relevant evidence to defend him. But he was in a Marine Corps from 2003 to 2008, much of his time was as an administrative clerk in Iraq. The end of his career, he got dishonorably discharged for larceny and other lesser offenses after being found to have tried to steal $10,000 from the military.

Trump Refused to Bring Marine Home From Russia

"All right, let me get to with other subject matter and I wanted to do a lot more in depth research on this, but I've been running out of time today, but I want to tell you guys about the guy, the gentleman, Paul Whelan. It may be waylon. I don't know which way to say it. But I'll just go with Paul Whelan right now 'cause I like to say it that way. The former U.S. Marine that had been left behind in an exchange for the guy Victor bout and Brittany griner. I got a couple of things that I want to say about this because my wife brought up a really good point because all the conservatives were upset, rightfully so, for the most part, that a basketball player who pled guilty to taking, you know, cannabis all in possession of cannabis or at the airport, she played guilty to it, got sentenced to 9 years in prison. And they exchanged her for what some people consider to be one of the most dangerous people in the world. His nickname was the merchant of death. Death and destruction and trading and selling illegal firearms across the nation across the world amongst other things that he did led him to a 25 year sentence in the United States of America. Now we exchange that guy for a girl who had hashish oil and cannabis all in a thing getting sentenced to jail. They don't seem like a reasonable exchange. The merchant of death, they got one of the highest profile people that have been convicted in the United States of America, released, and we get a basketball player. I just, it doesn't make sense to me. And it doesn't make sense even more so when you think about the fact that they have another person over there, Paul Whelan, waylon, who's a U.S. Marine, and him being stuck over there, and him not getting at least two of our people for one of their baddest people. my wife would hurt when she go down a rabbit hole, she's down the rabbit hole. So she found some information about waylon, and it really made me think about it. Because she said, well, wait a minute, Brandon. Hold off a little bit, conservatives are going crazy about weyland not being released, but did you know that under Donald Trump's administration he didn't make that trade with waylon? He refused to make a trade for Victor bout. And Paul whalen,

"You got people like Louis Farrakhan. You got other people that are blatantly racist openly. And they still get the tweet no senses. But conservative tweet and their bias appropriating certain rules to conservatives that they don't do to other people. It is a shame that they did this. But now, and this is not the only evidence. Thank God that Elon Musk is bringing this stuff out, but I'm sure there's a ton, a mountain of evidence. Or if they say a mound of evidence, where they've done all kinds of nefarious things, we already have seen that the Secretary of State right here in the state of Arizona, Katie Hobbs, who rent, who was running for governor, reached out to Twitter to have them take down information that could politically, that could be politically at a disadvantage for her. And they did it. How much of that information was influential in the election in the state of Arizona? Democrats, through the 2020 election, were coordinated with Twitter to have certain content blocked, censored, filtered, whatever you want to call it, how much of that influenced the election. And they stopped the hunter by laptop from coming out.

'Twitter Files' Part 3 Reveals Actions Taken to Censor Conservatives

"I'm so excited to be on the radio today. Got a lot to talk about. The biggest topic that I want to address right now that I think is incredibly important is Twitter dump. The Twitter files and the vindication of the Twitter files being released feels good, but I'm hoping that something is done by these big tech companies that lied about intentionally censoring conservatives. No more can somebody say, oh, those conservatives just lying and making this up and then no, that's evidence. I got evidence right here. I'm looking at the evidence. That they censored conservatives because they disagree with what they had to say. And let me tell you this, you talk about voter suppression. These big tech companies were active in voter suppression because if you don't have a balanced perspective, you don't have the information you need to accurately vote because they're censoring and controlling speech, that's a problem. Let me go on and tell you pretty much what they found. Of course they'll tell the world that we don't do censorship. We don't do shadow banning is what they say. We don't shadow man people. Well, of course they don't shadow ban people, but they use the word visibly filtering, which is the same thing as shadow banning.

For maximum fun dot org and NPR. Let's get back to my 2019 interview with singer and hip hop artist lizzo. I know you met prince when you were living in Minneapolis. Mmm um. Yeah, and you did a track on one of his spectrums. With third eyed girl and so how did he find you? Because he invited you to perform for him. He asked you then to do a track for electrum electrum. So I know when you move to Minneapolis after college after dropping out of college, you became a kind of important part of the music scene there, but so how did he find you? How did he hear you? Okay, so there was a documentary being made about burgeoning musicians and also like, you know, yeah, I think it was just burgeoning musicians actually in Minnesota. And it was on one of the local news stations and it was us me and my best friend and my DJ Sophia Harris group. The feeling who won The Voice and electrum electrum who was prince's band. And I think some other people too, but I can't remember. And they did a piece on us, and the day it aired, the current, the radio station, and Minneapolis called and St. Paul and Minneapolis. They called and said, they hit us up and said, yo, you won't believe this, but prince just sent us an email asking for y'all's contact and we were like, what? And mind you, this was maybe two years after I moved to Minneapolis. And I was, I couldn't believe it. I was like, well, give them art. Email, what are you waiting for? And the email just simply said, I would like for you to come to Paisley park on the Easter Sunday and eastern Sunday. Wow. Yeah, it was pretty amazing. And to work to work on a song. And we went. And it was magical and from then on, we had a relationship with Paisley park and with him where we would just, he would ask us to come perform for his parties, and we would come and perform and we also had talked about me in interviews. He was like, you know, lizzo's one to watch. She's up next. When nobody was checking for me, he was checking for, you know, young black girls and young black artists and giving us a voice and gave me my first big check. I mean, I have a I have a lot of respect and deep profound relationship with one of the greatest artists of all time. So that's all I can say about that. Okay, so I want to break here and play another song. And this is from your 2016 EP coconut oil, and the song is good as hell. I really love this. I know a lot of people do. Again, I'm going to ask you to talk about writing it and conceiving the sound. Yeah. Good as hell was the first time I had written a song that I was like, wow, this song could be on the radio. I never saw myself as like a big artist like that that would have so I was very much indie minded, you know? And I remember it was one of the first songs I wrote with Ricky Reed and we were in the studio and he flew me out to LA and I was like, oh, okay. I was like, feeling myself. And we sat down and he played this piano riff, and he said, how does this make you feel? And I was like, you know how it makes me feel. And I did a little hair flip and I checked my nails. I was like, it makes me feel like everything's gonna be okay. You know? It's like, it makes me feel good as hell. And he was like, all right, and that was like the basis of our relationship, like he would literally take words from my mouth and be like, you know, you just wrote the lyric, right? I think I was like, really? So this was the beginning of a very beautiful relationship. Okay, that's here. This is good as hell from lizzo's EP coconut oil. Check my name. Baby how you feeling? Head tos. Check my mates. Baby how you feeling? How did the bullshit gone that's your shoulders off. Keep it moving yes lord trying to get some new shit in this win we're going to the pool shit. Come now come dry your eyes. You know you a star you can touch the sky. I know that it's hard but you have to try. If you need advice let me slip he don't love you anymore just walk your fine ass out the door I do my head talk check my nails baby how you feeling hey talk check my nails baby how you

"Interviews from our archive with Jay-Z and lizzo. First we have Jay-Z, who's been incredibly successful as a rapper and an entrepreneur. We spoke in 2010 after he published his memoir decoded in which he wrote about growing up in a housing project and watching crack destroy his neighborhood. He saw drugs before finding success in the recording studio and on stage. His book also tells the stories behind 36 of his songs. He holds the record for the most number one albums by a solo artist on the billboard 200. In 2017, Jay-Z became the first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His 2009 record with Alicia Keys, Empire State of mind, became something of a New York anthem. He's also known as Beyoncé's husband. Let's start with one of Jay-Z's signature songs, izzo, HOV a from his 2001 album, the blueprint. Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the 8th wonder of the world. The flow is century. Oh, it's timeless. Ho. Thanks for coming out tonight. You could have been anywhere in the world. But you're here with me. I appreciate that. Uh. "Stuff. I'm i'm a blues guy. turns out so is he. We have like identical tastes in music so it was really interesting kind of revelation to say. Oh okay so he loves he loves that music too but his roots are very similar to mine and that was it was really interesting. I just kind of assumed. Yeah than anybody who makes it in whatever genre there in. That's their that kind of their whole thing. Yeah with that same. Assumption follows drugs. You assume right anybody as what you do you know. When when i started doing speaking engagements people shocked. They got all your soul area night so smart and i send you. I kind a win. The the mensa award because your your your standards for mere set solo. Just three word. I went so when. I stand up when i start talking to people. Like oh my god he constrained to censor he can say five cents is here. He intends the other. It's incredible so the expectations are not great. Now heavy metal takes a hit. And it's a shame too. Because i there's a lot of great heavy metal players and great great instrumentalists and and very smart people may them were my friends. But it's not the music i listen to the music. I listen to is still a music that i found love between the ages of twelve and twenty and that's usually the music you fall in love with is the music between twelve and twenty annual. Listen to that for the rest of your life. No matter how embarrassing it may be to other people or to your kids. It doesn't matter just turns out that my twelve twenty was the beatles stones. The who floyd. I mean i had the golden age of rock and roll so i was blessed at that but i was a kid. I love pop music and you know mental is not the music are listened to i know are the guys and i appreciate it. But it's not due. I am a blues guy. Steve knows i listened to blues all the time man let in love with his new kemoko record. Because it's just phenomenal right. So i can listen to sonny boy williamson and muddy waters and the most obscure blue skies all day long blues to me as my classical music blues to me. Is my comfort zone. Music lose to me is my timeless. Music will never change. It just is and i can listen to it anytime day or night. I that and beatles by the way. Because i write a beatles column and yes i know more about the beatles and most rational people should but i don't know the most about the beatles because i choose to have a life all right and that's so am a beetle lunatic. You're such a blues fan that your name you. Your name is kind of a no march to be king. Yes as jay jay french. Yeah that's it's which which occurred to me at some point because Because i said yeah why did that automatically roll off my tongue. You know like the french was important because my middle name. And i needed a stage name but the jj kind of thing like bb king. Jay jay french. Yeah you know. But i mean. Bb king is just the giant although albert king is my lord and savior is truly my lord and savior followed by mike bloomfield. Maybe he's jesus. And then i don't know the holy ghost may be jimmy you know there's my troika and guitar players But those are the people that really inspired me. We haven't even talked really twisted sister. But i really wanted to. When i was reading your book i actually thought of the video for. We're not gonna take it and niemeyer did you just say what are you going to do with your life like. Did you write. This video was this. I mean because it was kind of your life in a way deal that song and he was. We're all animal house fans. Yeah talk about a non pc movie. Oh right up right up there with blazing saddles never to be done again. You know my daughter went with ally. Yeah my daughter went to oregon and they had a screening for them because it was the fortieth anniversary or whatever and the students were appalled. This is this is the worst movie ever. nobody laughed. Like i don't get why we salute this movie. Yeah so yeah so anyway but back in leading was one we will big fan of course and so de came up with the idea and and gave it to the director and they the script again. That was brilliant was absolutely brilliant on his on his end. And we've got mark metcalf you know and he wrote that. What do you wanna do with your life. And the funny thing about mark metcalf. Is we do celebrity autograph signings. You know so. I i run into every once in a while and i say the mark does a day go by where someone walk up to you and goes say that man just say just say you guys know how do you feel about it he goes. I love it i love it. I mean i think it was done. Hanley glenn fries some said how do you feel about playing hotel california over and over and he goes i have a unique propensity towards repetition and the truth is is that if you're a performer. That's what you do. I think i would. View ray davies many years ago and someone said before. Then hillin's really got me came out right there's just ray davies in the king's back in the seventy s. Someone said jerry. Get sick of playing. You really got me and ray davies answer to. The guy was. Let me explain this. You man flip hamburgers. Were living or play. You really got me are you. Walking kidding me are you kidding me. I mean so when people say my sick of playing. We're not gonna take it. When i'm standing in front of one hundred thousand people in europe some country that barely speaks english and i got one hundred thousand people. Have it on film over all over the place you go shit. I mean they turned into a butter commercial in south. America wave onset day which means eggs and oil and butter and it's a commercial and it goes wave owes gone said where he which is exit and lemon. I don't know what the fuck that has to do with anything. We get down to south america that promoters by the way they turn the song to this butter commercial and everyone sings where it was going to day and lo and behold there's t shirts with a twist logo two fried eggs on them right billy sold outside the arenas and so we do. We're not gonna take it then eddie. Oj dr or guitar player. Speak spanish is said. Eddie talked to the crowd and tell them you know so. He's does in spanish thing and we go into waves going to sit there. And i got a eighty thousand kids screaming. Well is going to say so. How does that suck suck. My daughter says dad they're singing. We're not gonna brexit right now. My daughter lives in which sends me a clip bbc. There's a big demonstration from the dick van. And it's like we're not gonna brexit and then. Npr had a survey of the top thirty songs that unite america on that list. Starting at thirty two number one was blown in the wind. American pie We shall overcome. We're talking some of the greatest her and in the world and they're counting down and counting down and counting down and we passed born in the usa blown in the win wish overcome and we get to number three in its. We're not gonna take the two above us. Were some gospel songs. Which i really didn't know. And i thought to myself. We made number three on the m. p. r. list of songs that united america. So you can hate twist sister. You can think we suck. You can think we're a hair ban. You can derived us for whatever way you wanted to write us. You can't take away and you can never take away the impact that that song has had in the world. it has been monstrous. And i'm really proud in fact this afternoon. I was at our warehouse in downtown. I'm walking up amsterdam avenue in past a restaurant and they're cleaning up i here. We're not gonna take it. Blessing out of the restaurant and the and the guys are in their cleaning up. And i walk in and i went. I said what they on and we love the song we love. The song. And i was like cool. That's my songs. What do you mean. Of course i want to suck everything i can. You know momentary artem on. That's me oh man that's great but anyway.

And i thought the magnificent what a place to live. I really love it here. We have mild winters. Usually mild summers usually except this one and and i just love it. It's great horse country now. I remember when i was in the states driving along through nevada and thinking what was looking at on the caps was snow where next fact it wasn't as accurate. No it is snow it is snowing. It's ironic given the nevada desert being. What are these the. It's not necessarily the at the coldest place so obviously you do get some well does are pretty high. "No i'm interesting. You mentioned. Chevy's this is chevy's come after hammer has might have more. Chevy's came after hammer heads. Close the other words. No but you know we. We had a reputation as like destroying discos. And it wasn't that we destroyed this goes. It was the owners of the discos decided. They wanted to become a rock club and so they would say the twisted. They'll tell you fans coming bring albums and posters and we'll smash them up and stuff you know so we did a death to disco thing for a while and And you know there was a real cultural shift. People don't understand it but do you remember bill. Uncle sam's one levittown. Yeah yeah. I think Okay so uncle sands spit in back. Yeah it was fit yes yeah. The rockers had to go through a door colts spit and the disco. Keep kids went through the front door because they were cleaned up and with With soussan i. It became a real cultural war between that because some clubs went. Ooh i don't want people away t shirts and jeans. That's why play disco because they look more civilized looking suits and stuff and the rock clubs. Were like screw that you know. So if you remember beggar's opera in queens right so beggar's opera Had a different name and and they they they were. They wasn't a transition rock but the owner didn't like didn't like Are kind of fancy. Which are your sh t shirts and ripped jeans. And so he told my agent kevin bread. I want in my room. I don't like the way the fans are dressed. Where it's kind of ludicrous. Now okay so. Apparently he showed up at speaks one night. And there's two thousand kids that speaks and still feel you know standing at the bar and the guy walks at to phil only goes and and so what are you doing. Here he goes. I'm checking twisted out. I'm decide whether or not. I wanna put him in my room so the story goes still goes. What's the problem. The guy goes. I don't like the way that the people dress in philly goes you don't. You're looking at thursday night. Two thousand people. Are you out of your mom. Yeah right well like what are you thinking. What kind of logic is bad and The guy that you know the hardest so So that shows you the whole thing. That's what happened. It was a real culture shift. Between the rockers and the disco people and speaks was speaking disco then it was speaks and then went back to Something had another name for a while. And they kept shifting back and forth and lamar in brooklyn by the way. I don't wanna leave him more out because rain more in brooklyn and lamar is very important club in history of twisted sister because it was the first to really transition into a real legitimate original metal club all the rest of them are bars but war was a real legitimate you know. They had metallica. They everything of all and motor had played there. You know you you name anthrax those great anyway along with a disco and then it switched to metal so there was a crazy time period with shifted over. And then just kinda died really quick like really great kind of vanish off the earth and at that point Interestingly enough you know. Acdc judas priest really hit their stride. And that's when i say our versus fennel village started to become. Jj we gotta run. Can you come back and talk to us when he come. Come back home again. You know what going away for a while digger vacation but I wanna thank you for having me on. And i thank you for your support in constant contact meets. Grace let's go by the way smaller pine You know my heart will always believe on blue. Alway i will. I will stay in touch with jane. We'll try to hook up again in the future again. The book folks look for the book in september. Twisted business lessons from my life in rock and roll jay. Jay french folks thanks. Jj radios a sound. Salvation radio's cleanup up the nation. "They You know they we talked and they told me you know they you know they said look we have this band called wicked lester but it's it's really They sound like the band looking glass. You remember that song brandy specifically says they said look. We'll give you a tape of it but but the band sounds like looking glass and we're not gonna sound like that we wanna change something really different really heavy and they asked me if i knew who slade was man i had heard of slave but i hadn't heard slight okay so i didn't realize the reference and you know slave Your is a british loud heavy very anthem oriented heavy rock. Yes with a great singer. Noddy holder and and and. That's what you know. Jean paul that they saw themselves as this kind of heavy heavy heavy rock band. Oh i don't know the words heavy metal. We used back in those days. But you know they. Envisioned marshall amplifiers and stuff was and people need to understand this musicians. Understand back in seventy two. The only people that played marshall amplifiers british acts american bands are so playing senders and son. Anson music man on fox but the british bad cream would play marshall's and and jimi hendrix picked up marshall so they're they're kinda denoted a heaviness really loud real heavy kinda sound and And so i kind of rehearsed with them for a while and then and then we then they didn't call me back and i went okay. That's there goes that shot and that's kind of basically what happened. They just didn't get back to me. And then come the following september. They were still advertising in in the village voice. Yeah i answered an ad in the voice and it was gene again and he said oh. Hey yes we got a guy. His name is paul and you come down. Check him out fine so about a month after that sometime around october. Seventy two. they ain't got me through the loft on twenty third street which is legendary and kiss stories. but i went down to the loft and At that point. Ace i believe they just painted the backdrop the very first time the very first kiss backup was just like a bedsheet painted behind a bunch of marshall amps and they played all the songs lesser except kissing another words heavy marshalls and as i said today somewhat. Wow that's why you picked. As he was a great player you know you could just tell. He had what he had it i. I wasn't good enough at that point. And i know. I have no problem bidding it. It is what it is. I just wasn't. I didn't have my chops together yet. Ace was the perfect guy for them. Yeah kind of worked out with a doughnut. it did. He was a perfect. I look. I think probably audition ten guitar players. I am sure they you know i. I don't know the other ones where i'm sure. They went through a bunch of them right on the other hand. That summer went down to a hippie commune and we'll start pennsylvania and spent my summer jamming with an all brothers cover them and Came back to new york and we played one show in the band broke up. And that's when all of a sudden everything changed. September seventy two everything changed Space oddity was the number one single. All of a sudden bowie was absolutely everywhere t. Rex was absolutely everywhere. Glam came flooding in and that was basically what guy is basically getting glam badly. You got nothing. And that's that was a very pivotal timeframe..

It was like the president of the united states coming in there. I mean it was just unbelievable. His reception during that period of time we would have. Sammy would have to sit down before the game with in a in a big room. If we're on the road we go into a big big room. We have a little room in. Chicago was a one hundred people but he did that every single day before and after the game answered all the same questions every day with a smile he just loved it. He loved the attention. He loves the fact that he was on center stage. He loved the fact that he was. He was under pressure to perform this away. Sammy then he was a superstar. Then you had mark maguire in saint louis and the guys. They're told me their pr. People that it was like pulling teeth the hated it just did wanna get up and talk about it. Well that was that was that was. I'll take responsibility for that one. You know we're getting our apps handed to us. You know we had a double header there In august and we were we. I think we're were like a game and a half thousand within there and we just got pounded. And if you look at ron darling. He's pitched game one. I'm in the. I'm in the clubhouse i'm gonna pitch gain too and i'm sitting there and i hear the crowd roaring and players are coming in saying the wind. How and straight out Like the fifth inning and he's almost in tears. I mean i think might have been one of the worst. Saudis ron darling. ever had. He didn't have any if you look at his line scores. He was tuna third eight heads. Eight runs the white guy. And so i go out for game. Two and the crowd is going dessert. And you know. I get him out for three innings and vendor space hit somebody makes an error denver's double and i said okay. That's enough of that. You know and so here comes teeth. Mohan and junior ortiz catching junior told me later. You know if you're a catcher. "I'm a stacey. Bill matlock and threw a fastball. Right down the middle to like a five time batting champion and he hit a rock in the first base dugout. I mean had seen live pitching in two months. The life went off. And i said all i need to do here is just throw strikes get ahead and then expand zone and i pitched very well and you'll read the ones because i had this. I had pitching that entire time. I was ready to go. You spoke earlier at about tom. Seaver on the mets at that point in his career of course they ended up losing tom to The compensation draft to the chicago white sox. But what was it like With tom on the staff during that point in his career did. Did you get anything from him at all. Oh absolutely you know tom. He'd liked by example. I'm wasn't the warm fuzzy guy that's gonna sit your walker impact on the back and say hey kid he's gonna be fine. He was he was tough. I mean he was a tough competitor. He's a former marine You know he. I remember him telling me you're late in the game. It's like a bar fight you know. It's it's killer be killed and you know. I mean a little bit of an exaggeration but this guy was some kind of competitor. And i remember you know after last. I'm thinking geez you know he didn't have that great of a year but if you look at the year he had he pitched over two hundred innings he already was pretty good. And you know you do that now. You're probably going to be in the league lead and innings pitched in. You're going to be up there. And you know and and i know i'll tell you if we did not lose tom. "Welcome to the daily social distancing. Show a man liz. It's really an honor to have you here because there are. There are many comedians who i appreciate as being funny but there are a few comedians who i envy stuff and it's always comedians. Recco like i could have never thought of that. I have never done that. You've always been one of those comedians. I mean it's probably the reason netflix. Said we want you to make a special is probably one of the reasons. Snl said we want you to come on the show and rights and it's probably one of the reasons hbo. Max said we want you to make a show unlike any other. Which is exactly what you did pose with. Sam j first of all. Let's this title pause. I mean it seems like the antitheses of what you want a show to be about because it seems like it has so much thrust so why poll was with sanjay. Well i thought about it in when we were kind of coming up with names throwing a bunch of stuff at a wall and pause seemed to be two things. I thought it was a funny little double entendre on how. It's kind of us to say like chill out on gay stuff in the black community. Thought that was like a little cheeky way to play with that and then the other side of it was i flicked with the show is asking people to do. I think it's asking people to take a beat in here. Another spectacle in take a beat in consider another angle than just your own in. So i thought it was kind of serving two purposes and in that way. What's cool about the show is that it genuinely feels like you just feels like you'll hang out. I mean you've got you got people drinking. You've got music playing in the background. You know you you've got cloud of smoke everywhere you know. People are speaking freely. Doing it almost feels like you tricked. Hbo into paying for you to throw parties with your friends. That's what it really feels like a little bit. It's a little bit of that I know we're coming with it. We were like yeah. This is like gonna do hang is good but we have to put some some substantial things into it or will feel like we just tricked. Hbo paying hang out and so it is a little bit of that though. But i do think that hangs are where you get honesty. You know what i mean. I flicked whenever i'm kicking. I'm not getting these pre packaged twitter answers. Yes you even you know. Free stays ideas of what the world is. I think one you're kicking it and you're just hanging people are not afraid to maybe say something they're not necessarily supposed to say because everybody's guards now but i think something that is show does wall. Is it truly as a hang with my friends. Everybody who comes two thousand somebody. I know it's not just people. Were picking like out of the sky night it sets up of like comfortably you know and I was gonna just been a person. That's open to other people's ideas and opinions and so i think it's easy for people to get into the flow of the party and just have a good time in because there is no intent in the show. There is no gotcha moment even in the interviews that are separate from the party. I think people are more willing to just be honest because everyone's kind of being honest so it's not like any particular person's being called out. Yeah it's funny. You say that because we remember watching the first episode. And i was like okay the salmon. These people are amazing actors. Oh this is actually a slice of her life even the way you speak. It doesn't seem like it's scripted in any way it seems like but it doesn't seem like it's scripted out you know like for instance like throwing out the n. word and that's just how you speak and i i remember talking to a friend of mine is an older comedian old black man and i was like have you seen the show. It's amazing he's like he's like i love. That show says one of the funniest people i've seen. His boys uses them word manner. She said that n. word. Yeah for sure and it is. 'how actually speak you know and i did think about it. Of course i. I knew there was gonna be some criticism behind it. Neither consider like do i want. Try to change my speech. Sports show and i actually made a really strong decision not to do that because i felt like one. I speak like how the people that. I came up with the people for my neighborhood that i grew up with my friends. We all speak this way. And i didn't want to act like we did and i also didn't wanna present something to the world that said if someone speaks this way then they're not intelligent or you shouldn't listen to their opinion or or take in consideration what they're saying you know what i mean and also didn't want to put on a different suit and have my friends and people will come up with feel like your in order to make it. I can't be me. I got some other version of myself. You know what i mean. But i also do like. I can't the criticism. And especially when i get older black people i truly do understand and i respect it and i was thinking like what. How can i kinda fix this. Because i didn't want to. Just come just disrespectful you now and so. I decided that The last episode. We're going to count up all the inwards ham to get any dollars. I'm gonna get fifty dollars to a charity. lgbtq charity for black people. I feel like i mean. That's that's the ultimate solution to any you. Someone goes like i use the n word well. Every time i use it i will be donating and now. It's just like yeah. well now. People almost cheering for you. Like i'm going to be sitting at home like yes another one. Come on sam you can do it. Another one sam another one do. It's it's an inward i think. Maybe that's what i love about. Your show is that you yourself had to break out of the one label that people want to give you. They just go like oh you are a black woman so that means you have to be this and they go like oh no you you are lesbian so you have to be this and etc etc and to be honest. In my humble opinion i think. That's what makes the show and everything that you do so fantastic so congratulations. I can wait to see the final episode. 'cause i want to see how much money gets donated on accountable the n. Words and thank you so much. I hope we see season to season three season four and it just keeps on going and hopefully i'll see you again on the show. Thank you so much have museums as it was really cool. I appreciate your time take care. What the daily show weeknights at eleven ten central on comedy central in stream full episodes anytime paramount plus ford.

"It bills appropriate because Here's the one response to it because this person is really mixing it up intelligent. I love when somebody put something new intelligence. There's something new on television right now. You guys and sam. J is at the center of because it is called paws with sanjay and sam. Welcome to black on the air. It is a pleasure. Happy him firm as president. The thank you for having and it is so nice meeting. You are a breath of fresh television air. Thank you congratulations on the show. A how does it feel how you feel about it. you know. it's kind of an existential and body experience. Sometimes doing yeah. It's a little different. Because like i've been putting things out in a pandemic so is not like comes just running around but things is now opening up so i'm like a little more like i'll have been doing stand up at the seller and i'm hearing the crowd. Clap louder for me. You know something. Exactly exactly watching. It feels cool. Yeah came home yesterday. I came back to boston. And i was hanging on a stupid shit and we will talk in and they were just talking about how they're watching the show in how it feels like it's in them made me feel good. 'cause that that really was the goal of the joe is a gammon. That's definitely dope. Yeah that's nice when you get that kind of feedback. Vets described the show for everybody. It's kind of like it. Takes place kind of the center of the shows. That is a party. we're hanging out with friends and people like that in you kind of start discussing a theme were theme comes out of it. There's ways to like sketches interviews. Things like that but the center of the show. Is this party right. Yeah yes based around a hang really on and that just came from mad different iterations of trying to figure our like what show was going to be an hour. It was gonna be in. I didn't wanna do. It does show because at the my style honesty. It was really that simple. I was just like out. I'm good behind a desk..

"Support abortion. When of course it's been la la land since the early nineteen seventies in. How dare he support that. La land cincinnatian seventies protecting women's right to have agency over her own body. How dare he. We have to come up with a lady. Get back it joe biden. He's a catholic. In so i know the bishops catholic church her and maybe they've done this already and i just don't understand is i don't know where this is coming from in. They're saying if you're a politician and they're just directing politicians. That's why it's so blatant in so so obvious. And you support in rights that you cannot have communion in the catholic church there basically excommunicating them in a sense Not coconut literally. Not completely but in a sense. Preventing them from having communion communion if you don't know in the catholic church doesn't represent by the way the body and blood of jesus christ in the catholic church. It actually is the body in blood of jesus christ very very very distinct difference from representation. So if you're politician in you show support for abortion rights catholic bishops are saying you are not allowed to eat cheeses body or drink. Jesus's blood get the table. I don't care if it's juneteenth celebration. You're not eating. Jesus body at juneteenth and your natural. Jesus blood gimme your hand. Stop it better punt. Which is so hypocritical in so ridiculous. And i mean. I don't even know where to start with this. You know.
