"Man, Neanderthal, basketball brain, kind of looks at that body going, wow. How's that going to hold up in the NBA? And the NBA is not a tough man contest. In fact, some of the some of the power forwards that used to play in the league and were the big tough players, probably wouldn't be in the league right now because they're not coveted. They might make a team, but they wouldn't be starters like they were because they can't stretch the floor and shoot it. And the game's really changed in that regard and over and I think is a reflection of that kind of change. He's a perimeter, big guy. He's not a low post guy. So while you were talking about him, we were showing a couple of pictures on the screen from Gonzaga's season. While we're just on the subject matter of Gonzaga, are you surprised that drew Timmy earlier this month withdrew and said I'm going back to school for a senior year? Were you surprised by that? Not really. He did the same thing last year and I don't know, it's easy to say he enjoys college or all that. He'll be the player of the year of this next year. Just sort of as he was right there for it this year. And he probably looks at his experience as being some unfinished business as far as winning the national championship. They could have done it a couple of years ago. They had a chance last year and got knocked out before the suite 16, which are the elite 8, which hardly ever happens with them. So I don't know all the reasons he came back. Selfishly glad I get to watch him another year because he's a fantastic player to watch. I've got Jay bilas here on the rich eisen show. Which one who's got the biggest upside? Is it home run? I mean, to use the draft parlance right here in the NBA. Yeah, the parlance of our times. He has most of the highest ceiling, but jabari Smith of offering is right there with him. And I like Smith to, you know, even though this is plasma to say it, but he reminds you a little bit of Durant with what a magnificent shooter he is. He shoots 42% for three, made 79 threes on the year. And he's one of just a few players in the last 25 years to have scored 500 points. I think it's 250 rebounds and hit over 75 freeze. And one of them is Kevin Durant, the other was Dante green from Syracuse. And so it's been a long time since Dante green. But the fact there's only been three in the last 25 years show you shows you and made that he's a super talented player. He's also very good defensively. Like he could switch and guard multiple positions. He can block shots. He rebounds defensively at high rate. I think he's the real deal, but I can understand if pans out to be an all star player, which I think he will. Then it's a question of not so much, was it the right decision? Was it the best decision? Because Adrian was going to ask you said this yesterday that could be too right decisions here. And I think that's a fair way to put it. But, you know, how it is. Like whoever, whichever player is better, you're going to look back and if Orlando takes the second best player first, we're going to look back at ten years and just hammer their decision here, even though it's a coin flip. Similar to the way that we were hammering the decisions of the sixers and Lakers before Jason Tatum right now, is that what you're talking about? Yeah, yeah. Very much so. And look, how many drafts that we had in any sport where a player further down the line has turned out to be the better player. And football gets four and 5 years to look at those guys in college, basketball gets a year. For the best ones. And so it's a little more of a difficult task to determine to separate out productivity from potential and trying to project where somebody's going to be in 5 years, ten years versus what they look like now. And look, I mean, it's difficult. It's not impossible, but I have a lot of respect for those decisions and how difficult they can be. Jay Bill is here on the rich eisen show getting set to be an integral part of the ESPN draft coverage on Thursday night. Did I say that right? You did. I'm a little bothered by the whole rich eisen show thing. I mean, it's so much about you. And it's not really a wee thing with you, is it? Well, I'll bite. What do you mean, Jay? I always used to rank all rankle me when SportsCenter anchors of which you were an outstanding one. Thank you. Would throw the game day and say, now let's go out the reefs and the guys. And I like screw you. How about Jacob Seth Greenberg, lafonta Welles? And the host. Yes. You know, they don't say that. Right. Very disappointing. But you don't even have, it's not even rich eisen and the guys. It's just the rich eisen show. Look at me. Well, it's called. It's called a radio reset, and on top of it, Jay. I mean, my gosh, talk about harboring two decades of resentment. Oh, it's longer than that. I mean, that was almost Tommy fam like going snapping jock Peterson months after the fact. My gosh, I didn't. It just didn't occur. It just didn't occur to me. I mean, you got the silhouette of yourself. I mean, it's not even anybody in the background. Watching you run with your suit on. That's true. These are all facts. Guilty as charged. Should we be on the side? And I just used his preferred adjective and setting him up. No, and I appreciate it. I appreciate it. You're making strides, but boy, that resize and show thing, long way to go. Come on, way to go. Jay Billy. What upside there? Jay billis, who's more than just a guy talking about the NBA draft here on the rich eisen show. Who is the name of the European guy that fans are not familiar with and they're pissed off that the team is going to draft tomorrow night, but then they'll love them once he starts playing for the team. Who's that guy? There aren't a ton of internationals in his draft that are going to be taken in the first round. There's a big guy 6 11 Nikola yovich from Serbia. There's going to be a number of people that call him jokic by mistake, but really talented talented player that's very versatile and can not freeze down. I mean, I guess you'd say that stereotypical of what you call an international big guy now. But it's true of players period. If you can't, it doesn't matter your site. If you can't shoot it, you're not valued as highly anymore because you've got to be able to stretch the floor. It's a spread floor game now. But he's probably the one that will stand out in the first round. And there may be some sort of draft and stash letters in the second round. There's only 58 guys getting drafted this year, oddly enough. There are 60 usually 60 because there are 30 MBA teams, but two slots late in the second round, got forfeited. And yeah, I don't know what the forfeit policy is. That's the phrase that is the phrase that the NFL used in reference to the first rounder of the Patriots forfeited in the deflategate. That's a word. That's a word brockman, right? You and all you're new englanders, you have a problem with that word for sure it was forfeited, got it. You know what I mean? I don't know what that's about. Stolen, I'm not, as you know, words can be fungible items, Jay. You know that, right? Yeah, I prefer vacated. Far footed. That's another way to put it. But vacated indicates it was voluntarily given up. Yeah. I don't know, I don't know. Okay, so there's 58 58 draft choice. That's a quicker night for you. Isn't forfeit isn't forfeit voluntary. Force it by accident. That's true too. By the way, don't mess with words with Jay billis. He's going to parry and thrust the whole time. Don't worry about it. I'm still mad about it. This is a man who once put Barney on the stands as we know here on the rich eisen show and the guys here on the program..

"It's going to be realized even more. This is not the end of it. It's just the beginning. Jay Bill is here on the rich eisen show. I've had leading up to the NFL Draft. Nick Saban and lane kiffin and Jimbo Fisher and Mack Brown just to name four college coaches, by the way, I'm not just name dropping. I'm just pointing out that I had these folks on prior to the draft, asked them all about this subject. Every last one of them said that there's no rules and that it's not fair. Mack Brown even said he had a player come in and said, hey, I've been offered this much at another school. You match and I'm coming here. So shouldn't there be some sort of rules around the NIL deal or you just think it should be free market just to go for it, everybody. Well, absent absent agreement with the players collectively, whether through a trade association or some sort of collective bargaining with the union, what rules can you put in that aren't going to run a file of federal antitrust law? Like do any of these coaches feel similarly when an assistant comes in so that they look I got an offer from another school for more money and if you can match it great, if not, I'm going to take this off her. They call that business. When a player does it, the coaches aren't used to it. They've ruled with an iron fist for all this time and they basically had a free ride with regard to players. And they don't have that anymore. But you never saw these coaches say, well, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Put the brakes on. We can't build these facilities here at our place because that's going to give us an advantage over some of these other schools or I'm not sure we should be flying private when some of these other schools have to bust the games. And I don't think I should make this much money because other coaches are being paid this much and that's an advantage. It's ridiculous. And the whole thing's kind of laughable when you when you look at it in the broader business context. I get it. Like if I didn't have to pay my employees, I'd be pretty happy with that. But sadly, you actually have to pay your employees. And that's the way the world works. And for all the coaches that say now, and look, I love these guys. I mean, I'm friends with them, and we just happen to differ on this issue. But when they say, this isn't what it's supposed to be about. This is supposed to be about education and mentoring young people and making them into better adults and all that stuff. Okay, if that's what you think it's about, you know, the doors to division two and division three are wide open and coaching in high school, wide open. There's nothing that's stopping anybody from doing that. If that's what you think it's really about. But in people say that this is a transformational time that we've never had this much upheaval and that's simply not true in you and I rich have talked about this in 1984, all the schools sued the NCAA when the NCA was telling them how often they could be on television. They couldn't cut their own meteorites deals, things like that. And they went to the Supreme Court and the schools won. And now they could bundle all their TV rights with their conference. They can Notre-Dame could sell them individually and the money went through the roof and coaches were paid millions, strength coaches are paid $750,000 and higher. And nobody said, wait a minute. This isn't what it's supposed to be about. It's a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry that's run off college campuses. And the idea that we can do this and the essential workers being the players are going to are going to remain unpaid is laughable. And the Supreme Court laughed the hardest in the allston case when justice Kavanaugh concurring opinion said in any other business, the way the NCAA restricts athletes would be per se illegal. And they're not going to get away with it anymore. And what that was really saying is, don't bring these lame arguments up here next time because you're going to lose again. And lower courts are going to see that and they've read it and I don't think the NCAA is going to fare very well in future antitrust cases when they're trying to restrict athlete compensation. Look, the coaches are dealing with the transfer portal now. They've never had to deal with that. And they're dealing with the players that are making decisions now with money as a factor. It's not the only factor, but money is now a factor and it was never a factor before. And they've not had to deal with that. Well, guess what? You've got to deal with it now. And that's just the way it is. And they can complain about it. I get the complaints, but pretty soon they're going to stop complaining and they're going to start figuring out how to deal with it because this isn't going anywhere. So then what's the impediment J billis? I mean, you're describing a totally broken dam and the D one board of directors with a sandbag out there as the dam has totally broken. I mean, the president of the university of Georgia is the chair of the board, and I'm sure they've got enough lawyers to tell them what time it is in the same way that you are. What's the impediment here? Mark emmert's leaving. What do you think? Jay? Impediment to what? To implementing what you're talking about. Just saying just realize what time it is and come up with a system and a unionization process and contracts and some sort of uniformity that makes this somewhat of a level playing field for some people, as opposed to catches catch can. What do you think? Well, there are a couple of things. Well, first of all, the reason they're not doing it is they don't want to. Because they know that the players are worth more than they are. And so asset allocation and money toward procuring talent is going to be funneled differently than it is now. Right now it's funnel to coaches and administrators and for facilities and all these other things. And they know that model is going to change and talent procurement is going to take even more money. And it's going to take money away from other things. And the NCAA structure, they look at that as their money. That's our money. They don't look at it as the athletes money. Where it should be rich and where I think it's ultimately headed in this, but when everybody wraps their head around it, is just simply signing players to contracts. It's ludicrous to believe that these institutions and the coaches and all that, they know exactly whom to recruit and exactly whom to put in the game when they want to win. But they don't know how much the players are worth to them. They know exactly what they're worth. And they make decisions on what to pay employees every day at these schools and they have tens of thousands of employees at each one of these institutions. And they're not sitting up at night going. What do we do? What do we pay the president versus the head of food service? Because both of them work really hard. In fact, the food service had worked harder than the president. And sweating over those hot pots and pans. And that's unfair. If the NCAA was really worried about a level playing field, we don't have one now, by the way. If they were really worried about that, there'd be spending caps on facilities and there'd be revenue sharing. And there's none of that. All of these institutions are market competitors against one another. Their market competitors for talent, whether players or coaches or administrators. Their market competitors for media rights dollars and they're certainly market competitors when they play against one another. They're all trying to win the most, make the most money and advance their institutions for the use of athletics. They're all trying to do that. And so how is it that we could say, well, it needs to be fair with regard to athletes only..

"Jay that you've brought to the table here today. I really, I admire it. I very, very much. It's just objective, honesty, rich. It's not an agenda. You know, I'm a true seller. Oh my God. Jay bell is here on the rich eisen show. You have caused me to actually need to clear my throat. So before I let you go, what did you make of North Carolina's run at the very end of the day, Jay billis, and how what that means for the program writ large with Hubert Davis? It was a great example, rich several things, but one for any tea that your record and the analytics of your performance during the season can tell you what you've accomplished, but it doesn't necessarily tell you or tell others what you're capable of doing. Yes. And Hubert Davis had this unshakable belief in their ability to accomplish something great. And even when they were struggling, it still believed that they were a championship caliber team. And I can tell you that among the basketball community, he was a gang of one in that. And I'm sure his players believed him and telling him that, but nobody outside the program believed that in January or early February, but also like Hubert Davis to me and I got the chance to work with him closely for 7 years when he was with ESPN that we worked together on college game day and I was just saying. And honestly, rich, I don't know a better person than Uber Davis. He is, he's a great example that you can be a nice empathetic thoughtful person in every way and be a cutthroat competitor when it's time to compete. And those two things aren't mutually exclusive. He's all class all the time. And I was so happy for him. And he said one thing that, you know, we do these interviews like on Sunday, you sit both the championship being coaches down and I had asked him about Roy Williams and being at all the games and all that. He said, you know, I haven't really been able to watch coach Williams on this ride. He says, but I have been watching my family. And he talked about his kids didn't see him playing the NBA. And they get to see him now, accomplish something like this. And he's really enjoyed that. Enjoyed having his family along for this ride and it of all the things that I admire about Hubert. And I said this about him is the first couple of years we worked together. He's the best father I have ever seen. And it's not close. He puts, you know, all of us that think we're decent dads are put to shame by Hubert Davis. Best dad in history. It's absurd how good of a dad he is. I just took my best dad ever sign off my desk. That's what my guys are laughing. 'cause second best dad, I'll see that to you, but you were just saying the best dad. Before I let you go, Jay, which player will make the biggest impact in the NBA, which one did we just see in this tournament that you might be talking about? Come draft night. In a couple of months, or the following seasons in the association. The top three in the draft are going to be Chet hole grand up Gonzaga, jabari Smith of auburn and palaban Caro of duke. They're the youngest. And that seems to be the way the game is gone as who has the highest sealant for the future. But those three guys are extraordinary talents and it's going to be basically what do you like the best? Because all of them make a pretty good case for number one. But it's a pretty deep draft class. Jaden ivy are Purdue is fantastic. It's not a draft of point guards as much as it is. Wings and front core players. But there's a ton of talent in this draft and if it were me right now, I'd probably go with jabari Smith of auburn. He's the closest thing offensively to Durant. And he's not Durant, but he's the closest thing with his ability to score and shoot it. He's going to have a great NBA career if he stays healthy. And in the first person to see homegrown when he's in the NBA, isn't his head coach. It's the strength coach, right? I mean, isn't that the first guy he'll have to be introduced to in the NBA? He'll have to get stronger. I don't think his body is going to carry a ton of weight. He's always going to be going to be lanky and sin. But with his ability to block shot. It's hard for offensive players to get into his body. There are things that right now you can do against them, but because of his talent level, his ability to rebound and handle it, block shops, shoot threes and all that. He's in a lot of ways built for the NBA, but his body does give you a little bit of pause. You just don't see guys built like that very often. It's kind of a porzingis type body. And there were a lot of questions about porzingis. It would be able to handle the pounding of the MBA. And so there are a lot of old school guys in the NBA that his body style gives him a little bit of pause. And it does for me too. You just don't see it very often. Jay really appreciate all the times you've called in every single time. You make me smarter and laugh and I appreciate it, my friend. Next time here in person in Southern California, let's do it. I'll be there in July and I'd love to come in. I'd love it. Thanks again, Jay. Appreciate it, we'll chat again soon. See you brother. Thank you. That's Jay Bill. It's a great Jay bilis here on the rich eisen show. Didn't see the answer to that coach K question. Being a broadside and Brady's direction. Wow. Crypto fascist. Let's take a break and speak about that crypto fascist league. How's that for tease? I've got my two cents on what the hell the saints were thinking trying to trade up into this year's first round for a to give them two picks and what the eagles might be thinking about. And I would be placed in the eggs in that Philadelphia basket. All of that, coming up next right here on the rich eisen show. Every golf equipment company claims to be longer off the tea, but Callaway's new rogue ST driver is the only one built to completely bomb it. You're going to see, you're going to see quite a few big time hitters use this stick at.

"Made zero new rules. It was just we are going to enforce the rules. And one last thing, Paul, if you use the analogy of the highway. And there are cops on the highway that are monitoring speeding. Now, I think I don't think any of your listeners or you or me would be able to with a straight face a wine ever exceed the speed limit. I'm not asking that we call that somebody going 67 to 65 get a ticket. I'm not calling for touch fouls. What I'm saying is we've got people going 80 and the cops are watching them go by. And when you allow that, more people are going to go 80 and they're going to go 80 more often. When you give tickets out when they go 80, they start to slow down. And when you call, when you call the clear files, players will stop fouling and when you don't call them, they will file more. And that's the situation where now. I don't think it's fixable this year at this point in the season. But I think we're going to I really believe we're going to see this. I think we're going to see some of these power 5 conference teams that are playing hockey games during their conference season, going to the NCAA tournament. And in the tournament, the NCAA supervisor JD Collins has a very strict hammer on the officials. If you don't call the games the way he says, you don't advance to the next round as an official. And I think we're going to see a couple of maybe more. Some power conference teams find themselves in situations where they can't adjust in a single game. And they're going to get bounced out of the tournament as a result. Now, some people say, oh, the other team was just better. But the trained eye that looks at it says now they got the one one at this point. I mean, I've had so many games that never got to the one and one by halftime. And it's impossible for teams to play at this level of physicality and not pick up files. It's impossible. Jay, in a very short period of time, we have left. I know it's a big question in terms of the tournament, but as we move toward that, everyone thinks this team or that team, but is there any way to chisel it down to where you are right now in terms of if you had to without knowing what the field looks like? Who has impressed you the most this year? Yeah, I think last year we had two teams that stood out above the rest. And saga and Baylor and it was all season long. You knew they were head and shoulders above the crowd. And if they didn't make the final four, your jaw would be on the floor. This year, I think we don't have that kind of superpower at the top where they've separated. We've got about 18. I would say that I think the champion is going to come from that 18 group, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of those 18 lost in the sweet 16. They all won't lose, but a couple, maybe a few will. And that many open up a path for a smaller conference team to make the final four. I think it's going to be a little bit easier this year to reach a final four that last year. But winning the championship is a different animal. And so, but I think we're looking at 18s. That doesn't mean somebody can't pull an NC state or a Villanova 85 and do it. That's possible. But it's unlikely, but we've got this is going to be an exciting turn of it because we don't know. There's nobody that you can point to and say that's the best team. But I think Gonzaga, auburn, perdue, teams like that, duke, Kentucky, they're all in that in that range of teams that have a chance to cut the nets down. Somebody can do something crazy and be outside of that group and do it. But I think we're looking at about an 18 group that are what I would say prohibitive favorites to win it. So much to talk about. We hope to catch up with you again. I know the schedule will get very busy. But Jay, thanks for making time. It's always great to have you on. Always Paul. Thank you. Thank you very much. Nobody knows more than Jay Bill is from ESPN and we are heading to the break right here. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast..

"In red bay, Alabama. Where you got Joe? Well, I do want to say this. When I heard legit talk and I like boy, you know, but all the colors that I've ever really made on your show was squirrel. And I'll tell you what, he's a big dude right there. I can just say swirl by hook and gym and Jim Holland. It's the devil, it's the devil. I may have said his thing about the sack. Oh. All right, I know what he was doing Valentine's Day. I tell you what, it might cost a couple $50. But a woman in hand better than a porn star on your computer. It just, you know, I mean, I've had bad little girls in the past, but I'm not going to go to, you know, my girlfriend, cook forward, you know, or take her out. I'm going to you don't need a full attack for this stuff. It don't even make sense. Now that's up. I could see Carl do it. But not lead. You know what I mean? It's a good look. You know, he's a good-looking dude. I think he was just being funny about that. I've seen legend with quite a few women. Yeah, right. He's got a buddy. And John will, you know, Charles that I hear him say that. He got a lot that argument that it's good entertainment. Does anybody realize I said a lot of crap? Don't crap on the bottom of your shoes and they think that's funny at the entertainment. I mean, I mean, as we call them a few more names, discounts, they think it's good entertainment. I mean, I'll be happy to do it. You know, the owner also, but you know, but Charles, you know, I like y'all. I really do like Charles and I hope he gets him a woman and a 13 women out there that's desperate. I mean, there's a guy right there desperately Alabama. I mean, his name is Joe. And I don't know how tall he is. Legend said he's 5, three, or 5, four, which I doubt that because I seen squirrel in the squirrels, he ain't no force up. Hate my height, but he's just a whole lot bigger. But Charles, I mean, any girl out there that Charles, I mean, it's easier, you know, just the only thing about Java putting that out there. And I think somebody mentioned it the other day is a girl could go for Charles just to try to get his money. I mean, I'm feeling you're right that something tells me that the guys never spent a dollar in his life. Yeah. He needs a woman about his own age that he can hang out with and still go to the other thing other than Charles Joe. What else are you been thinking about lately? Well, I think about a little book, Paul, the art of love. And how to create women because I know some example how not to create. So that's how I know, you know, I'm going to write a book. I already love just or maybe we'll look out even if you're ugly you can get a girl. You know, just for, you know, no names like or no face like you. And that may be why Jim, so tied up, so ill all the time, maybe he's really bad off and he can't get 8 may never had a date in his life. Yeah, yeah, I think that's pretty obvious. That's probably why I don't think that's I don't think that's a big mystery there, Joe. And I will apologize for what I said about the boners yesterday, got there is ugly girl here and read by that tomorrow. Our auburn plan. The night, the folks up here run a big wiggly, they're open fans. I've known her family my whole life and they're good as go people. I'm glad you cleared that up. Thank you very, very much. Let me talk to Calvin in Louisiana. Hello, Calvin. Hey, how you doing today, mister fireball? Calvin, we are doing great. Thank you. Well, I'll tell you, mister Mayan ball. I'm gonna end up in my bed right now, crack. Of course, man. Because part of our traditional travel by this iron is a less director and this new coat is doing that Grammy, man. I went to ground and we knew Harris and Charlie Jenner. Right. Did they consult people like that? Before they had this? You know, Calvin, I just saw something cross a minute ago that apparently Doug Williams, I don't need to tell you who Doug is with munoz famous players ever. And Doug said that he had a very personal friend of mine. Yeah, with Doug said he's very disappointed that he was he expressed his opinion and they obviously did not care. Is that led to record from Louisiana? Don't you understand what grammar and tradition was all about? She was trapping coaching around. Come on down here. Yo, people in Louisiana get on these people up there, family. 'cause they're schooling without good conditions. Undeserving of a second chance. You know, one of them is counterintuitive a second chance. We're covering up sexual things, man. You better than your sisters. President you said that your son, you know what does that guy into that? Yeah, Calvin, I feel you're paying and I don't want to act like I know much about grammar, but I did cover grambling when I was in Louisiana. I covered a couple of games as many of you have heard me say. And I agree with you about coach rob. I think he would be, I think he would be disgusted today. You take care of yourself. Thank you very much. Thank you very, very much for the call. Okay, thank you, Matt. Thank you. A lot of very upset people. About our brows being hired at grambling. "I actually like it. What would Ted say to you when you have all these people throwing out his money at you and come march? You know what? Okay, now that I've watched about 8 episodes, he'll be like, does it change your life? Doesn't change your life. What makes you happy? Where do you belong? Other people. That's what he would say. And thank you for bringing that up because Jay billis has been I'm like, Jay Bill, let's just bring it up always, these Ted Lasso references. I have no idea what he's talking about. No, no, no. Me personally, I didn't think I would. I'm like, what the hell is that? You know what? As a coach, I'm like interesting. I love the story he was playing dots against this arrogant owner of the soccer team. And he was playing dots and they had made the bet and he said something about someone who's curious versus someone who is I forget what it was about curious. He says leaders are more curious than whatever. He was throwing dots and I guess the guy was a really good dot play. And he says, you never asked me how curious I was. And he said, I've been playing dots against my dad since I've been ten years old. Wow. I grew one right in the middle of the dot board and he collected whatever he was going to collect. Wow. You know what? It's not power. It's not power. I mean, it's not new Jack city for me. Old school. But it's good. The minute you called coach, many you called, I would change my schedule anything. Thank you, appreciate you, though, seriously. I mean that. Thank you for thinking about me all the time. Thank you for checking up on me. Thank you for being a mentor. You know what I mean? I know who I am. I know who's been there. And I just, that's why it's a coach you pick a time, I'll change, I got you. I appreciate man. Love you. Yes,.

"I'm like, I don't know if this guy does, but he looked a lot more bouncy out there. He looked confident as a runner as a finisher. He came off a big Theo John screen and he put his man in jail that had been ranch jumper and Jay Bill said that duke changed the way he runs, like fixed away his feet turn and I don't know he played with like this, this level of belief in himself where he hit this quick face up, jumper. It was all like the high school film ish window more stuff. So that was encouraging for him as potentially a prospect this year too. Yeah, and I really loved Wendell more coming out of high school. I thought like legitimate potential first round pick as a one and done. He was very young, very long arms. It just didn't work for the first two years, but that doesn't mean it's not going to work this year. Like you said, he looks really good. He looks really polished and confident out there. Obviously started to cramp in the second half and it looked like his cramps may have been a bit worse than what Paulo's were. What we'll see at what it looks like the rest of the year. He has to shoot it. Like that's ultimately the thing. He's going to have to shoot it from three. He went over to from three tonight and that's the problem there. Yeah, Oscar is not really an NBA prospect. That's super interesting to me. He could be a backup center at some point, just through work ethic. He has an innate sense of just where the ball is going to go off the glass. It's kind of remarkable and unbelievable. Yeah, no. I think that we've probably talked enough about this game. One more add on here because it's never over, because people never really graduate high school on time and your graduating class doesn't matter. Shady Sharpe who's the number one player in the country will be enrolling at Kentucky in January, hasn't said what he's going to play or not. So if you'd eat it, I think he has he alluded to like I'll do whatever they need to do. So I point it's like even Kentucky's roster could look different here in a couple months. I thought that my understanding is that people think he's not going to play. Yeah, it starts that way. Then you get to campus and it's a wool C so they have a lot of players. They have a lot of transfers. I don't know where he would fit in. I'm sure they'd find a place for them, but just just something to keep your antennas up for because things change here very, very quickly. Yeah, I think that's reasonable. I would be surprised to see shade and sharp play this year. Like we've seen we've seen Kentucky go down this road before, like they did it with Amadou Diallo with Diallo enrolled early and you know, they could have used him that year and he still didn't play. I would be surprised, I think, if shade and sharp played, but like you said, these things change..

"The tournament starts as they say. Well i gotta keep up. I got the highlanders are going to go in at number one and campbell midland's probably going to be four or five. I gotta keep up with stuff all and spring valley after the first week if successful will earn itself a trip to martinsburg more than likely spring valley is the only team in the last. How many years in state beat this mart down to beat martinsburg class. It'll be a fun match up. All comes to permission and week to the play offs. So yeah it's such a great time of year key. Magin spring valley beating martinsburg for three straight tot tries three straight That's unheard of. I'm trying to and i know. Spring valley went there last year. But you know as well as i do all it's the different Two different ballgame when you have to go up to coburn field and you have to make the long trip. That's about long a trip that you have in west. Virginia you know Campbell county up to berkeley county because there's no good way to get there and say really what it is. It's the equivalent to go onto you tap in conference. Usa right they're very fair. So yeah but but you know. I don't think spring valley is going to be intimidated if cohen field and in a few weeks. "With an opportunity now to not only make a final four run again, but an opportunity to win the national championship. And as you talk about, as we think about UCLA, we've not been able to say that very confidently over the last several years and there were even some questions about what's Mick cronin the right guy for the job. Well, I think all those questions have been dispelled now, Bill. They'll be one of the best teams in the country throughout the year. And as Jay Bill said last week, we're going to talk about those guys and a lot over the course of this season. Well, once again, Seth, we talk about fonts being an incredibly nice guy and he's steals what I was going to say because my storyline was UCLA and only UCLA because the PAC 12 has really good teams and it's going to be a good league. But to me, the story is going to be UCLA. Mick cronin has gone in there when honestly, when he got the job from Cincinnati, I was thinking, I thought I grew up there in the shadow of Westwood and by I don't know how if he's gonna like this or if it's gonna be a great fit. And he's been awesome. Yes. And you know, I tease I tease me all the time and have since he was at Murray state about his size. I don't know if you guys have noticed, but I'm a lot bigger than my kids. So whenever I do like a speaking engagement or something, he's there, I make fun of how small he is. And so I'll tell you a little story about this. So when he was a Cincinnati, we McDonough and rafter and I were coming in to practice one day. And I'd always tease my about inch for being the best coach in America inch for inch and all this stuff. And the only coach in America who's bobblehead doll is actual size. And so when I come into the arena, he had had a headache that day, so his trainer is giving him a couple of aspirin. And he was taking putting the aspirin down with a tiny little cup of water. And as soon as I walked in, he's holding this tiny little cup. He goes, oh my God, you're the last guy that needed to.

"A local fireworks store tomorrow, signing autographs, entering people into a raffle to win some sign gear. You can come meet him and by your fireworks, like things like this are happening, not it's not just that the rule goes into place tomorrow. It's that tomorrow's a lot. Like tampering in the NFL. We're used to free Agent day like tomorrow We're going to get announcements of massive amounts of money. And for some of these athletes that have huge social media presence is you are going to see six and seven figure deals that could be on the table for athletes to go out and make money off of the social media business that they built. Number of things coming out of this to consider number one is that amateurism is dying. That argument of amateurism is dying the way the Supreme Court handled this particular most recent discussion in case is going to have lasting, very meaningful effects. I know that it's been years of me saying I see a sea change coming and it hasn't come. I do believe that this is The final boards of the dam are going to be whisked away by the pushing waters. I don't know what analogy I'm using here, but I think you know what I'm saying that if he didn't listen to Jay Bill us on ESPN daily last week, definitely listen. Everything he says is so smart about all of this, and this is an example of what happens when the body is forced into action. Every other time that they say We need time to come up with this to write this to do this in this case because of the ruling from the Supreme Court because of the ways they were exposed as operating like a cartel they in a short Matter of time, figure out how to draft their own name, image and likeness policy. Figure out how to you know, control this in the in the ways that they still can, which is much less than they had hoped, initially, right, they still have some policies that they can put into place. But for the most part, these name, image and likeness rules are going to be based on what the state laws are. So as much as they finally moved into quick action. Um they did so with guard rails that are very limited there. They are trying to prevent a full deregulation. And that is sort of inevitable at this point, because of the way that they very clearly have been operating unfairly. And, uh, you know, Fits. I think we're going to see a lot of questions come up, and most of them can be answered with yes, that could be a problem. But let's give these athletes a chance because they've earned it. And yes, that could be a problem. But let's react to it in the moment instead of assuming that this can't be handled in a way that that will work out well, and I feel bad for compliance officers at schools across the country Sarah and as they try and navigate these waters, it's going to be a lot, but everything that the incident is happening dealing with now they did to themselves. They could have been proactive. They weren't and now there's 100% 100%, you're right there. Compliance officers in these student athletes are going to have to find people to help them through this, so they don't get swindled for short were brought to you by my computer career training for a better life, And when we come up, we'll give you some more thoughts on sons, Clippers and LA montage to close out Pride Month. He lives for the moral high ground. And you know we love. Hey i'm pro jay bill. We are excited. I just want to make this clear because we love jay. We're going to go after bills a little bit where someone else. What else. The reason we're this up is because what was it. What's the guy's dave. I wrote it down. Hunter you're a check your check you. We'll say that was going after bill on twitter and they caught her attention heroes. Funny okay go ahead. I just wanna i don't wanna get too far down the road where bill someone's clipping this twenty four jay bilas signed a contract with espn through twenty three and allegedly. It's set seven figures right. That's one that's two to tacoma. Yeah yeah okay. Yes yes jay bilas right. We love jay bilas we we appreciate jay bilas. He is Way you know some beds and we love look with all due respect. You'd love houston. We loved see this year. They're so good but they were fraud. And jay bilas live for this hearing jay. Bilas live for. I l jay bilas liz for the conversation about players. Being you know. Basically the the intersection of legalese and college sports is jay. Bilas shines because all of us are morons. Especially those of us in media. I mean i don't i you know i'm gonna peel back the curtain a little bit homeless lawyer all idiots every single one every single one of your favorite media. People sits in front of microphone yes and talks about sports. Three idiots and jay bilas jay bilas a law degree so anytime an issue like this comes up. He's like this is my time to shine. Yes because all these idiots have no idea what you're talking about i do. Yes yes yes. Let me jump in here. Is basically jay bilas jumping off point and in general. It's about the fact that we are exploiting exploitation is probably the term civil rights issue. Yes yes this is a civil right. So exploitation to the premium. Most you can ever imagine. So that's what he is saying all-time but regardless this all comes up in the hearing yesterday jay. Bilas takes a stance. He's he's he tweets to the world waiting for all of us. Morons like you said to come and say jay. Thank you for explaining this j. Tell me how to get it. I understand it. Jay and what happened was quite the contrary. Yeah because again someone else knew that seven figures were coming to james basically Arkansas like bill bilas tweeted. it's wrong does. And and pointed out that of all the stipulations that ever has in place about lying capping people's how much money players can make or having all these Caveats of of what the name image likeness world would look like. Bill is out correctly. I might add that. That market moore never acknowledged capping coaches salaries never knowledge capping his own salary. He never said that we should put limitations on what the coaches in ended the quote unquote adult though. Everyone is an adult everyone's over eighteen term guardrail. Yes yes but he doesn't want guardrails for the quote unquote adults. Yes in this particular. He wants it for the kids. So jay called this out and then Arkansas a divas i. I couldn't help notice that. When you're saying no guardrails for the administrators coaches or anything else. You did not mention the broadcasters. Jay is making as you said. He's making comments on his allegedly allegedly for talking about college sports and and. I don't really know how to feel about that. Because that's like what i aspire to do as well. I don't want to pylons who was going to say. The other thing was hilarious origin southside. Here's this all. The arkansas are going nuts. it just comes back. It comes back to the talking about it is. We're we're it's michael scott in the office where you have a standoff right now where it's like. Every single person is pointing fingers at each other and every time that someone tries to jump on the moral high ground there is a reason to bring them back down into has all the fingers are being pointed as the waters muddy mark emerges tiptoeing backwards with a bag out the back door and no one solid saw. Yes coach k.'s. Over here doing his farewell tour. We're all distracted and market was running away in the night and the putting out then left the statement as you read that just like we'll revisit distance agai- we're sorry sorry. Sorry that's pretty much it. That's pretty much it and jay bilas. Look we're on the same side. We're not making it but we are also broadcast was. That are a part of the game. I'll bills once is just a free mark. He's like yeah. No shit like a ton of money. I have an under armor deal everytime you see me on american way you understand what how this works. I want the same for the players. So i don't think that's hypocritical right. I think he's right. What i also love that. The that the is thrown. I just love that. That's i love everything. I love everything about this story out. Arkansas in general. I mean with sam pittman there football coach. I mean sam. Pittman is a great character. I love coach. Pittman and with the must bus like ours. Situation dude like i. I'm slow at the college world series yet. They're making their way to the college world. Climbing there super regionals right now. What's what's arkansas situation. They're playing in the super regional against Nc state super regionals is just like the regionals leading baseball. There's like seven levels of regionals pre regionals turnament or for like for you know usually ac tournament. Then you have your super region then goma. Yeah that's too much. That's too bad like i can't. I can't suss all that out. I don't know what you know. You can't have regionals and super regionals that makes no sense. You have to have sectionals and regionals. You have have different terms. You can't do like this is for the regional championship. And if you win the super regionals because like if if i'm new to the sport i'm thinking what's after super-regional is like super duper regionals. Where does it end tate. It ends in omaha. We know i super regionals that they started in two thousand. So when i was covering baseball i had the same thing you know. I was like what we what's happening here like what now we're doing what now we're going here and it just started years ago but people talk about. It is as if it could never change baseball works. Everything is tradition. Yeah pine tar. They're like why can't we just make a sticky substance that everyone approves and that we is there like no traditions as we used car. Cheat you idiot also a little bit shaving cream or is this i some in my for my calloused. Like no we on your hands got it. That's that's how we do things. That's that's what i did. College world series at arkansas june. Eleven tomorrow so what happens if this is three three three three again. This is the other confusing part. Is that two college world series. I think like. I've watched enough to know that. Multiple teams make the college world series. But i think the average sports fan. Here's a team. Makes the college world series there one of the final two teams left in the country. That is not the case..

"We will see. Meanwhile, tonight is the NBA draft. And I am very much looking forward to watching my friend Jay Billa's Give me the analysis and all these players because their arm or this year the names at the top are ones We've probably seen play less than in any year that I can remember in a very long time. And so I welcome J Bill is back to the program. Hello again, Bilis. Greenie. Good to be with you. So I teased going into the break that we're going to say a name that a lot of people probably have not heard it all that they better remember when we get to tonight. And that name is Tyreese Halliburton. It's a name I had. I'm not 100% sure that I'd ever heard It spoken aloud until about two days ago. And now I'm hearing everyone Tell me this is the player to watch tonight. Tell us who he is and how high he might go. Well, he is. He's a point guard from Iowa State, and he's been there a couple years. Um, long armed, you know, Lanky, uh, outstanding handler. Really good passer. Excellent shooter, You know, Spot up shooter, um, can shoot from deep can put the ball on the deck and get to the rim and finish and he's a really good defender. I mean, I think Perhaps the most complete player in the draft and the one you'd say. He's going to play 10 12 years and there's no way he's not going to be good. Um, you know, it's just a question of Kennedy is gonna be great, and he may have a lower ceilings and Lamell, a ball wise, James Wiseman or Anthony Edwards, but his his flora's much higher so you know you can. Well. He's reliable. You can rely on him. And I've got him is the fourth overall prospect in the draft for that reason, primarily, not necessarily that he's going to. He's going to come in and you know, lighted up like Donovan Mitchell or something like that. But that he's going to be unbelievably solid on band attribute to winning at a high level right away. That's just the name. I want Everyone listening to be remembering tonight when you hear his name called much earlier than a lot of people are projecting. You heard Jay Bill is tell you here. He could go that high. Let's talk about what Melo ball. He's obviously by far the most famous player in this draft because of his family and all the things that have happened. Just how good is he? J. He's really talented. He's a He's a wizard with the ball. Great ball handler, Spectacular passer. Can can deliver the ball in almost any situation, transition ability. He doesn't shoot it, and he doesn't. He hasn't shown much. Interest in defending to this point. But he loves to play put this time in, and I have no doubt that that hill transition well and be a good MBA player. I don't I don't think even though he's extraordinarily talented with the ball And you know a point guard. I have Anthony Edwards little bit ahead of him because Edwards is a better score..

"Minnesota now will have lost their two biggest wide receivers. After what was really a moment in time from Minnesota last year, That football team looked incredible compared to what a lot of expected in one of those once in a lifetime moments from Minnesota fans if they're hoping to run it back. That just got a little more difficult. That's now to two players that we've seen that have projected his first round picks that have decided they're not gonna put themselves at risk in a cove in 19 year for college football. I mean, park you have so much experience around this. It feels alarming to me to see a play or come out and say, You know what? I've got everything I need on tape. I'm just going to train by myself. It's a mindset if it proves to everybody how difficult this year is to justify for a lot of college football players. Yeah, it is really going to do with this service to a lot of the the players that were trying to elevate their stock, and we are able to really have NFL season. So you think about guys that know that there are already going to be first rounders. They could do nothing but hurt their stock. By plane. But if they decide not to play, then they know they can get out and just train and get better. Bigger, faster, Stronger, ready for all of the test and not put themselves at risk. And maybe getting cold bitch. You know, we hear the fears of what happened to Ah, Eduardo Nunez. I believe Of and his enlarged heart, so nobody knows how they're going to read. Maybe not. Rodriguez may be the richest Rodriguez. I'm sorry for the other White Sox home, you know, far more radio player that knows I'm going to be in the first round. Why play? All I could do? It is hurt myself. When I have, I don't play. I just reinforces what they already believe about me. I think we're going to see more top tier players. You opt out. Maybe even even maybe even a Trevor. Lord, you know, I mean, maybe after now, when you think about the fact that he's already going to be the number one quarterback Why go risk it? Why not just prepare for the test and collect that check and get the insurance policy Now? That's an interesting question, though, because I'm totally with you like if I were Trevor Laurence Today, I'd sit there and say, Look, my take. I got everything you need on tape. I'm ready to go. Let's play. You know if I'm Trevor Laurence. I can totally understand that. But we've always but least it's been sort of drilling. Everybody's mind. The NFL team's going to look atyou and question your competitiveness. If you chose not to play. I mean is this because of covert 19 is all that out the window. I think it's out the window we've seen this week. Guys that aren't playing for the national championship, decided not to play in these bowl games and understanding that nobody wants to be Willis McGahee. Nobody wants to play in a bowl game and maybe hurt their stock. Especially when they're not in the playoffs. And then what kind of playoff system are you? Goingto have? If all teams are playing conference games? Are you going to determine who's an asset champion who's going to be in one of the four teams is going to get voted in to play in a tournament? So if that's the case, why would I even play if I'm not playing for a championship? If all I'm playing for it to be a number one draft pick and I'm already back. I mean, that's a really good point, because the playoff process is going to be more difficult than ever. If the committee meets the way they've usually met. You're talking about such different scheduling for every single team. You're talking about the different decisions on the way to handle the conferences. I mean, I think this year I'm glad I'm not on the playoff committee by the way in May, Todd McShay ranked Bateman 19th overall in his way too early. 2021 NFL draft rankings, and this is just a reminder. I think the most important thing to me is we're seeing this change in college athletes, and it's something that we talk to Jay Bill is about earlier in the show. But there is a difference in you know I can't put a finger on it. I don't know if it's just the social change in America. I don't know if it's covert 19 or a combination of the two of them, But realistically, I just Bart, I can't imagine five years ago three years ago, any situation where college football stars would say Now I'm out. I'm just going to train for the whole year or college football teams would come in and say, I don't care from unionized. We're gonna exercise our voice. This is another very individual example of college football players, realizing that they control their destiny more than anybody thought they did. And as much as we continue to look at unionization, as or the lack thereof, as something detrimental to the players, I'm looking and insane right now. I'm scared if I'm a school because there isn't some union way to collect a bargain, So you have no way to go to the players and say Hey, We want you to play like I'm suddenly thinking J. Bilis is right. We're going to see a group of players just say you know what you won't do. This will just point out this week, and that's such a difference in the mentality and the power. The college football players realise they have Was what that this is the era of knowledge, right? There's the air of self empowerment. There's the era of making it better for the ones behind because look what happens and why the college has always been able to take advantage of the athlete because the athletes only there for 3 to 4 years, So by the time you become one educated enough to strong enough to have a voice to speak out about that you can't speak about certain out about certain days at 17 18 years old. We started getting 1920 started get understanding. He started to feel more secure in your position on the team and what your what Your role is so then you feel emboldened to speak out for what's right. You know, And when that happens, then by the time you do that, a coach can say we're not going to pay you owe. Our coaches always been have control players because they control your playing time. You have a very small minute time to be able to try. Get good enough to get mark it enough to be able to be able to be a professional. So they've always been ever hold. Hold your playing time. And even if you transfer you gotta drop down or you got to sit out a year, so they've been able to silence players. I think players are to the point where they don't want to be silenced. They won't be silenced anymore. And you see T happen with the MBA with the J League players and saying, You know what? I'm not gonna waste my time going to college. Well for one semester of experience. I don't want to be like Zion being, you know, a choose have taken money. I'll just go. Think we lost him again. He's making a great point. He's right in the thick of it, and he's absolutely right. There comes this spot when you start looking to college kids and one of the more interesting things to me. So what Bart's referencing is that it felt like for years, coaches had all the power it felt like for years, coaches could come in and control the narrative for players. Coaches came in and said, This is what you're going to do. And if you won't do it You know, I control the power Now I feel like when you combine the empowerment of college athletes, we got Bart back when you combine the college, the empowerment of college athletes with sort of the difficulty that coaches they're goingto have recruiting and how public college players Khun B in this That's part of the reason. I think that the cat's out of the bag never comes back in. I mean, if you're a coach that wants to step on a player's rights, whether their name image likeness or whether they're in social justice conversations. If you start squishing those things, the player can go to social media and can actually affect your ability to recruit in the future. So suddenly what we're seeing is this rise up to me where it feels like there's a different balance of power than we've ever seen before. In college football. No, you're You're absolutely right. I think we're going to see all that in display in the near future and the landscape as we know it is changing, and I don't think it ever go back. And I think covert exposed a lot of the warts and little things that You know that that coaches and universities had over the players in the players are taking their power back, and I think they're emboldened. Well, we're going to work a little bit on some of the technical issues we're having. But also importantly, we've got some breaking news in some details from the NFL about how they're going to handle violations. When it comes to covert 19. I got to get a former players reaction to some of these because it is staggering. You'll hear that all coming up next. We'll do that. Next on ESPN radio, but first AutoZone has more ways for you to get what you need..
