"Final hour Nashville begins as what a day has already been in Alabama winning easily over Mississippi. Missouri knocking off the Tennessee vols till two games left and Arkansas playing is always an Arkansas fan just straddled swapped out. But have a hard story. Let me introduce our special guest and we are more than just a little bit excited to say hello to Bobby bones who is, I mean, I knew you were in. This is the most uncomfortable part of it. So we'll just move on. I did a radio show, do a few TV shows, but I'm a big Paul fine bomb fan, obviously. And I tweeted you today. You're Twitter account. They're so good in general, right? They're connected. You're connected. And so I was like, hey, I want to come say hi to Paul, because I came last night. And I feel like I love you. And I was like, let me find Paul. I want to say, hi, I couldn't find you in the building. And they were like, what are you doing? Why are you walking in the bathroom? I'm like, I don't know where Paul is. And so I said, hey, where's Paul? Want to say hi before the game. And they were like, hey, once you hop on. And I was like, I love to. So here, I begged you to be on and now I'm here. I've told you this, but I still brag. About four years ago, I was here, I was here for like the basketball media days. 5 years ago. And I'd run into a guy, you run into and the guy who's big in something, country music. He's an in country music, but he was in he was a sponsor. So I happened to see him at the hotel. And we're talking and he goes, hey, man, by the way, how long you here? I said, I'm leaving tomorrow morning. He said, there's a big thing in town tonight. And I was like, and CMA awards. But it wasn't like with a crowd. It was like only invited. It was a small group. One of these somewhere over here. Yeah. And you're a part of that group. I walk in. Oh boy, here we go again. And there's link Brian and he's said hello and I mean, Nicole Kidman blew me off. So we get inside and what we don't really have seats. But everybody, I mean, everybody in Nashville is there. And we're standing in the back. And all of a sudden, there's like 15 or 20 tables where all the celebrities, I see you, oh my God. Like, how do you get here? I did wonder that. I mean, you're seeing a Brad Paisley and Jason aldean. I mean, so I kind of nervously walk over, that normally mister Bobby. When you stand up for all these commercial break. Am I going? He really does know. That's not a massive fan. You know, I watch you every afternoon or listen to you. The breaking news I got a second ago. It was two things that happened. One, I learned that the Carolina Panthers tried it up to number one as I was driving in. What a haul the bears guy, they got the 9th this year, the 62nd this year, a first round next year. I mean, what a hole. Yeah. And they don't need a quarterback. So they're happy to trade down to 9. And then also, I get to come hang out here and then also I saw a lot of sad Tennessee people walking out 'cause I didn't know who lost the game. As I was walking in, all the burnt. All the orange, which is you're happier to see sad Tennessee fans. Yeah. Yeah. It does. But you can agree, you may agree you may not. I feel like if I really dislike a fan base, because I respect them for the most part, because they beat us or their constantly annoying because we don't like playing them, you know, there's always like put. And so I often say, even with Texas a and M, I can't stand their fans. However, that means that I appreciate what they do. And how good their teams are at things. So the more I hate fan base, the better your team is, it's kind of how I feel. Okay, so I should have done this at the beginning, but I make the assumption that everybody watching and listening knows you. No, I don't think anybody but I want to make it clear because I think I'm starting to get some text like why are you talking to some exactly. Stupid razor. I was working at the desk I'm here a minute ago. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby is really one of the more amazing people in the industry. He's the biggest name in country music in terms of this side of the microphone. Did you win Dancing with the Stars? I did. Okay, in one Dancing with the Stars. By the way, I know that's a really silly question. I did. It's okay. That you've been on American Idol for 40 four seasons. You have just pretty much done everything and you started out as a sports talk show host, I think. I started out on a tiny market in Hot Springs Arkansas and slowly built up and I've written a couple of bestsellers and got, you know, in life is my wife is super hot who's over here. Things you wouldn't expect to happen to us to go from a small town Arkansas. So I just want to say, if you're watching, or you're listening right now, and you're from a small town, you're like, I grew up poor like Bobby. You can do this too. You can have a hot wife like mine. You can have all of this. Coming from nothing like me. We can do this. I will say, I thought we were like best Friends, and then what are you talking about and then there's no one then. So how long have you guys been married? Two years. A year and a half? We got married during the pandemic. So I'm. Literally reading People magazine one day. Stop it. You were not reading People magazine. There's no chance that you were just sitting at the coffee table. Okay, go ahead. I'll be quiet. And there is like a photo log of your wedding and, I mean, everybody's there. Yeah, it was pretty good. Let me tell you, I didn't get invited. So here's who was there? It's a second country music wedding I've been snubbed from. Who's the other one? Whether no longer together. But it wasn't. I used to work with Jay Barker, who married Sara Evans about 20 years ago, and everybody, and I didn't get invited to that either. But yours was we had a select few people because the pandemic. If I could was there. Ronnie died from Brooks and duns saying at our wedding. Dan and Shay sang our first song, Jaco and dark's belly. Those are all our Friends. We live in Nashville. You know I do a show on a couple hundred stations.

"For one. They do not throw the ball out of a sense of obligation. They don't throw the ball to keep people on it. They throw the ball because that's what gets their rocks off, right? There are a few guys that like to cook up the run game, like Greg Roman heads is incredibly sophisticated run game of note an offensive line coach, right? He's doing with his guys like to do. They like to get out there and go find ways to get big guys on small guys and destroy them and make their noses bleed. You know what I mean? That's the game they play ain't nobody running no passes the whole second half because they don't have to pay it. He didn't start running out the clock at the beginning of the third quarter. He knew his quarterbacks don't. He was very aware that his quarterbacks don't. He don't seem to be acting like this quarterback states. He has my favorite thing, which is right now he's a blessed kind of clueless. The blessed kind of clueless where you go, I didn't expect to be here. I didn't expect to go this far. I didn't expect to be starting. I didn't expect to be in the playoffs. So you know what he's experiencing? Everything's new. It's all new. There's no expectations whatsoever. If you bombs out, cool. Cool, good. All right, I got further than I thought I was gonna get. I got to show my stuff. If I win another game, cool, let's see what happens. I really think we also, I think we overestimate the thought process that goes into players in general, you know, they're going to work. Guess what? If we win again, I get shoved work next week. If not cool, I'm going to Cabo. That's pretty much the combination of factors there. And one reason these guys are so good at their job is that they remember the patterns, but they forget the experience. I remembered what happened on the play before. That's why I'm in the pros while recognized the pattern if I see it again, but that emotional experience, either I've learned to process that through a process of expensive sports psychology Sessions, or I'm the kind of Brett Favre type who has no long-term memory. None, short term. If it happened three minutes ago, I've completely forgotten about it. The NFL playoff action continues. He's show notes for details. So every quarterback that's left in the playoffs, just about. Like I may, as we go through it, I think Trevor Lawrence is the only one that may not get this. But just about every quarterback in the playoffs has a how the dot dot dot question that you could ask based upon what we thought about them when they were in power, right? So Daniel Jones, for example. I guess it only took 5 years or whatever, but like, here we are. This is looking like a thing. But how the hell do people not realize he was fasting college too? Like I looked it up. He had a year at duper, he ran for 500 yards, which is not like running the wishbone, but it kind of is, right? Yeah. And NFL defensive coordinators still let that come to realize. Hey, you know do I do gorilla, right? I'm sorry. Can we wind it back here? The white dude from duke. I'm just gonna lay another. I'm just gonna put a little Mayo on top of that Mayo. From Latin high school. Walk on as I recall. Correct, right? And by the way, it should take 5 years. It should take 5 years to be good at quarterback. I'm gonna go ahead, no one up to this. It's not like we throw a surgeon out there, right? Which is pretty much like the apex where physical dexterity and mental acuity had studied meat, right? Surgeon. We don't let somebody don't tell somebody who's a bust as a surgeon after year two. We don't let them open up people's brains after year two. I don't think you get the year too. Actually. Yeah, you don't get to hear too, right? This is one of the most difficult jobs in sports. It should take like four or 5 years for you to get out there, right? So people are like, man, finally, Danny dimes is out there. One, it's funny you call him Danny dimes because he's made his living with his legs. And two, oh look, you match talent with a good management. With table, right? If you look at that, by the way, Naples resumes got cool. Like Josh Allen, who if you watch the bills last year and you watch them this year, they are missing something that they will have in terms of managing that offense. And Jalen hurts at Alabama. Like these are, these are two dudes who both of them benefited from his ability to say, I will work with what you do. But hold on, no. That is where it gets interesting because as I get back to the halder, the how the hell did David hurt starting to dis NFL quarterback when I saw him hold back two college teams, but let me do the next one, which was Brian dabel, Alabama fans did not have a positive impression of him after his tie with Jalen hurts. And it's like, I've seen you do this with Josh Allen, the most amazing fixer upper case in the history of the NFL. I'm watching you do this with Daniel Jones against college kids. Couldn't get it done with Jalen hurts and Jalen hurts couldn't get it done with you. And now you guys are meeting at the NFL playoff. How? Yeah, yeah, I do, by the way, we should say, by the way, in Alabama fans unhappiness with something is not a national emergency nor an indicator of anything serious if they lose one game, they're deeply unhappy with the performance of their quarterback. This to me is a generational change because I watched Alabama growing up with quarterbacks like, I don't know, Jay Barker, where they were like, that's a quarterback. What was his line? Three for 17. 44 yards rushing. No touchdowns, one interception. All you did was with the national championship. All you did was win the Nat. That's a winner right there. All of a sudden, all of a sudden they became aristocrats. They got taste and expectations for their quarterbacks. Now, that will never stop being funny. But that was me. Brian daviel had to bridge Jalen hurts at halftime of the national championship day. That happened and now they're both here. And look, somebody got somebody had to play the bike. So I just don't know how much credit I'm supposed to give the giant to the Vikings said, one, I would have said somebody had to play the diet. I understand why some of you may find that to be unfair, but I don't really apologize for the fact that that's how it turned out. But now Jalen hurts is out there with a bum shoulder. It could tear it into the giant in the NFC championship game and buddy. Daniel Jones, you don't have to, you could put that gun away. You could put that mask away. You were going to have to steal your money from the Giants, and now they're going to gladly back the truck up 40. Oh, and then, and then this is the best part is you get to do that when saquon Barkley manages to turn a four yard run into a 45 yard run. My favorite position as a quarterback, right? I think I deserve the contract because saquon got a touchdown. That is, oh, the most beautiful thing about quarterback economics. I would love to be an agent doing that. So they don't make enough saquon Barkley's anymore. Like actually entertaining running backs. They were very good ones. And like Christian McCaffrey somehow, as they taught them to be these one cut guys, he should be way more fun than he is. Like, I was watching one of those 92nd cut ups at Barry Sanders. And yes, I know Barry Sanders is the extreme case in this situation. But man, it's just so much fun. It's inefficient, somebody can make the argument to do all these things. But Barry Sanders was so much fun. We ain't got no running back. Alvin Kamara Evan Kamara got the nose ring through the cartilage and it hanged out and he played with it with a quality control charm around his chain, but it's still not fun. It is not 'cause he's not incredible.

"It wasn't like I didn't come up with 5 or 6 choices. I mean, I didn't sit here and go, hey, can I call you back? I gave him about 6 or 7 selections. You heard those, didn't you? Yeah, I found you, but you know some of the greatest. JK. JK. I don't think Kenny sabre would be on that list in my opinion. There was only 5 spots available, okay? There wasn't, this wasn't, hey, Nami 50 quarterbacks you've seen. The guy asked me, can you name me the 5 best quarterbacks in college football history? And I gave him about 7 or 8. Hey, Paul, would you know what? It's just like I always say, just an opinion it's gonna you can get. And bye bye. By the way, JK. I don't think I don't think I don't think I had a banner in the group, did I? Oh. No. No, no. No, you did. Hey, but I still like snake and all those guys. We're fantastic quarterbacks, but I don't think either one of them belong among the 5 best college quarterbacks of all time. Well, yeah. Okay. You do understand what we're talking about here, don't you? Of course, this isn't the 50 best quarterbacks. This is the 5 best. Who would you put on your 5 best list? That played in college, not what they did in prison. No, this is the only college. I don't care about the pros. That's for somebody else. What about Donald McMahon? We just fought in college, right? I mean, he was very good, but he would not be on my 5 best list. No. I had Chris mcnair. I thought he was probably the most interesting guy. The guy said, Eric mcnair. Yeah, yeah. He would definitely want to. But like I said, you're going to get me one. You got four more. You got four more or you're just going to go wave the white flag at one. No, I got my three from Miami and Michael Vick. Well, your list is pretty bad, in my opinion. How could you how could you leave how could you leave Tim Tebow off your 5 best college quarterbacks? Man, you know what? Your love affair with Tim slash Joe hey Joe old thank you both. You know, hey, JK, you knew I was going to bring him up, did you? Oh, you can't leave him over. By the way, as I said, Tebow, I think Danny wharf will probably belong in that list too. Hey, hey, Paul, you know goodwill. Tebow was, what do they call them at Alabama? And it told on him so he got to the pros. Yeah. But we're talking to JK, we're talking college. I think he was a terrible pro quarterback. But he was a great college quarterback. I don't think he was the NFL. How could you by the way, how could you call Tim game manager yeah, that's what he was. No, I mean, Greg McIlroy and AJ McCARRON were gay managers. Thibaut was not a game manager. And back to those 500 different callers, if you get 500 more calls and neither one I'm gonna bring up mcelroy or mech air. Well, no, I mean, I mean, those guys are not on the 5 best quarterbacks in Alabama history. Hey, come on, Paul. Hey, by the way, I mean, if you're going best quarterbacks in Alabama history, I might just look at the last four guys. Hey, Paul, let me tell you something, you ain't gonna believe me. I know you're gonna do disagree, but you know who's the best quarterback on Alabama's 1992 national championship team? Well, I know Jay Barker was a starter. Oh, I'm about to give you to ask. David Palmer. Well, you know what? Without David Palmer, they would not have come close to a national championship. You're right. You're exactly right, Paul. And by the way, he saved the season, not against Miami. He saved the season was a punt return against, I think it was Louisiana tech. Yeah, you know what Paula asked and ran into him before they played us last year in August. I ran into him at a gas station. I told him we was going to get revenge, but of course I was wrong. JK, I'll tell you one more thing about this. He should have never played that year. He should have been kicked off the team. Yeah, but they needed him. He got, he got arrested, I think two or three different times. And gene stallings just completely looked the other way. Yeah. He's not doing the one that looks the other way. I'm just making a point. I distinctly remember that incident because I wrote, I have a couple of books of my articles and I happen to see it a couple of months ago. Hey, JK, great call. Thanks so much. We'll take a short break and we are back after this. We are officially out of time for this program. We appreciate all of you for being a part of it. Some really interesting guests today will see you right here tomorrow.

"And we are back. Remaining hour of this night tomorrow live from Fayetteville, legend is next. Hey, yeah, Paul. We closed St. Louis, baby. We're closed. We're gladiators. The referees on the field, David. He's about to blow the whistle. I know you have him, man. It's been a long summer. Man, we're here. As I was talking with answer the phone, I was telling them guys in the back, they're a great job and I appreciate them, you know? I know a lot of people don't, but legend does. Hey Paul, I want to make one thing clear. Can I make something clear? I'm not an SEC fan. Let's get it right. I've never, ever been an SEC fan. Don't like them. Don't like to SEC. Whoo. That's right, baby. And let me tell you something, Paul. It's a frigging jungle out here. And in the jungle, he don't see the tigers and elephants in lines all gather together for each other. Hell no. They eat each other. They eat each other. And our kids stand on the other teams in the SEC. So let's just get it clear right out the back. And I'm not pulling for you. Hell no. Let me make it clear. LSU, wow. That's right. Come on, simmer. Come on baby. I hope for the state beats Brian Kelly's doll ass by 30 points, Paul. 30 frigging points, baby. I hope that be able to so bad they send that doll Yankee back to Notre-Dame as an assistant coach in week two. I really do, baby. And let me tell you something else. Quack quack, quack, quack. That's all right, baby. I'm an organ duck fan. I'm an argument. Let me tell Ellie make laugh at something. Bone X is dangerous. That's right. I said it Bo mix is bipolar. He might be Johnny Unitas on any given day, or he might be Jay Barker without a defense on another day. So be careful which bipolar quarterback shows up Ellie may clamp it. Quack, quack, crack. I'm an organ Doug fan. Let me make it clear. I ain't pausing for any of y'all. India, y'all. So let's make it clear. Right there. Because this is a jungle baby, it's a jungle, and I'm the king of the jungle. I hope all y'all get devoured by these teams. Cincinnati, come on. Beat the hell out of that hole. I'm calling the upset. I say Cincinnati beats Arkansas straight up. Beat the hell out of that hog. I ain't no SEC fan. Alabama fan, baby. And part of me say something about one of your colleagues as I make. Please. Desmond Howard, he makes you look bad, dude. He just makes you look bad. You know how you had to take some people to the side and just tell them man, hey, you represent us and you just stupid and you need to shut up. That's what you need to do to Desmond Howard. Not only do they take a and a.m. and Michigan, he picked Pittsburgh. Is that the same kiddie picket Jordan Madison kids vibe and to know how no more is that? Is that the same frigging one? Paul, you need to take to the sides and look there you make us look bad because here's the thing the average fan today ain't average no more Paul. We know as much about football as y'all doing on YouTube online. Watch the practices for all the players. Right down the coaches interviews. We know as much as y'all know to a large degree, maybe not have the inside solar system, but we have every source that we need and we don't believe in your experts won one of your so called experts come off as dumb as hell, Paul. And that's a two, man. Take him to the side and tell him to shut the hell out. Blockhead monster has some job DJ job. The black hat posse is at the city limits. The rest about the blow to whistle. You can't run. Alabama's on the doorstep. Elvis has left the building. Wow, that was a classic call. Let's continue. AC is in New Jersey. Canada. Good afternoon, mister fine, bob. Thank you so much for taking my call. Wherever you want to be, you can be. I can be anywhere. How about we put legend with the crimson tide? He can be there. Or something, no amount of time he's typing up the team. He didn't even want to accept something like that. He's on player like a guy named legend who's hyping up the team. How many times do you think Nick Stevens is going to yell at him mister fine? But what do you think? I don't know. Are you saying you didn't like the legend call? Because the excitement doesn't like all the hype. Legend on that foster wouldn't be a quarterback or something and he's hyping up the team. It didn't look like that. I really don't know. That means it makes certain probably not listening to all this. Probably his thing was not rap poison. Where's my Debbie? And when they lose they're gonna cry like a little baby. And then you have a guy named Matt and San Antonio as I recall a month and a half ago, he said your coach is going to retire anyway. He's talking about Nick Saban. So since like Matthew is super scared 'cause he was an excellent guy, but the problem is, Matthew, Jimbo Fisher is not gonna deliver a championship. That's the second time I'm telling you, opening Jimbo Fisher is gonna be delivering is

"On. Whoo. So like it is Elvis in the building. This is the building. Palm loving the show today dude has been great. Don't you agree? I think it's been possibly the best show we've ever had. Man, it's right up there. It's right up there. Hey, I'm going disagree with teddy. The PJs. Ellie made clapping. I like how it made climbing. Love for supper, Kirby. Powerful. With some awesome gray. You know what George's problem is, Paul? They're too thin skinned, man. They just suit their skin. You can tell they don't belong there. You know, they're kind of, if they were the president, they'd be Joe Biden. A one time president that everybody hopes so far down the steps as he comes off Air Force One today. It breaks the neck or something. You know, and there's a president they beat Joe Biden, Paul. And I tell you what, you can hear it in Ellie may clamp, it's voice. Fear, Paul. Fear. You can hear it. They already cop and do this. All right, Calvin deuces. I will agree with her though. The leprechaun should give up football and become a janitor. Whoo. I love Ellie by clapping. But I will say this to everybody clap at Paul. Listen, if you think you are a super champion, let me put it in box and terms. You are the crackhead lay on snakes of college football. You're a crack. You ain't no super champion. You are a shooting star, a one time champion. Let's face it. That's what you are. You are caught a lot buffalo. BYU cougar. And Joey, it won't happen again for a long time. We know this, because even Ellie made clapping figure out the leprechaun, don't belong at cornerback again. I keep telling you he's a manager Jay Barker junior. But nobody's listening to me. And they're not listening to LA may clamp it because Kirby is stupid. When it comes to quarterbacks. And it's gonna bite him in the ass this year. And we all will sit back and laugh as the wonderful Disney World presentation of such embedded in his wonderful life crumble to the grass. Whoo. Now all the bride horses. I just feel sad for that. I just feel sad for that salad, man. And you know, you can't help but pull for him, Paul. You really can't help but pull for him. And I'm pulling for him. I'm pausing for him to beat LSU out of that 7th place in the SEC. Paul is a worst quarterback in the SEC to TJ Finley. Name me one. Can I get back to you on that? Yeah, get back to me on that because it's not one. He's the worst quarterback in the SEC. I feel bad for. He's a good dude. He's just out of corrupt universe. The paid laden safe program. Everybody knows that they can't pay you to try to get delayed that they can't get delayed. They'll get you saved, to pay later save program. He's just at a corrupt university trying to be an honest man. And then he gonna work. They need somebody corrupt like the old old miss coach. It's your corrupt guy in there with corrupt people and everything will work out pretty good for you. Hey Paul, it's my birthday Saturday. This Saturday. Yep, 9 three, baby God knew one to have the legend born. 9 three, baby, the first week of college football. Yep, I'm gonna be 58, Paul. 58, brother. The big 5 8? Ten years younger than Bruce Jenner. I mean, Jim from Tuscaloosa.

"Shannon is up next in Georgia. Hello, Shannon. So Paul had a good Friday to you. Thank you. Paul, I want social stuff at you and then I want to ask the question. I heard your comments of the day about stetson and the Georgia G day gang in the assessment performs poorly, will that open up the discussion about who should be the start quarterback? 15 and three is a starter, Georgia. So this is season last year, fourth and efficiency in the nation. MVP of both the playoffs and the national championship games. And the joy to their first national championship in 41 years. Here's my question for you. I'm interested in your response. I heard Mike Griffin said that they don't refer to him as former walk on stetson Bennett. If stetson was not a former walk on. If he'd been a three star four star in sign coming out of the high school. Would there be as much critique of his returning this year as there is? I mean, I think are we just viewing it through the former walk on limbs? You are correct. The answer is no. We wouldn't be talking about it in the same way. And it's wrong to do, but we tend to hang on to the narrative until it's changed. Doesn't mean it's one of those rare cases where even though he's done everything right, even though the narrative has changed and I'll include myself in there. We're having a hard time and I think it has more to do with this. I think there's a feeling that he should have left because that's the perfect Disney ending. And the fact that he didn't, it's like he was given this gift to Cinderella story the clock struck midnight and he decided, you know what? I don't care. You're not sending me home yet. Well, I think the kids cut from a little bit different cloth than most people Paul. I've been to Jones county community college where he played the one year college. Did you go out there? I've seen the campus. For him to leave Georgia and go there and then after the way, I guess the way you felt maybe he was treated or overlooked at Georgia for him to go back to Georgia. I don't think most people would have done that. I don't think most people would have gone back to Georgia to begin with. And I think the kids cut from different cars and I think really, you know, it really upset me that Daryl called in and was complaining about it. He shouldn't be coming back. Stats and led George out of the wilderness. They wondered aimlessly for 41 years without a national title. He led them to the promised land for a Georgia fan to sit there and say he shouldn't come back. I think the posture is. And I think just not looking at it from the right to the right perspective. I mean, the kid's been successful everywhere he's been 15 three Georgia, ten and two and G co and he's won a national title. All while being overlooked by most of the nation. Everything you said is correct. But all I'm saying is, it is going to continue. It's just, that's how I observe it from a distance. I agree with you. I think it's a shame. And I especially think it's a shame that anybody that calls themselves a Georgia fan would be that critical of that kid after what he did for the program. That's just my take on it all. Fair. Thank you, Shannon. Well said, Ryan is in Cincinnati. Hello Ryan. How's it going, grim Reaper? We are doing great. Thank you for addressing me correctly. Yeah, just like Jim from Chris Wood back in the glory days. That's where this show is really good. Versus today when it's just a shell of itself, you know, kind of pulling a Tam here right now calling you from the toilet, just being sarcastic. That's okay. Paul Conway should have been honest with you. The reason he had Sean Alexander down so far was because he helped get Mike the Bose a contract extension. It's also worse than Sean Alexander did. You're right. I mean, he was the greatest high school football player I ever saw up here in the tri state area, the high P had was incredible. I'd probably like the way arch Manning's got it right now. But Paul, the sky from the Miami hurricane fanboy, what's his name, KJ? Is that his name? Bama hater, KJ. You're right. Is it JK? JK. Are you sure that's not Nevin Shapiro calling from prison? That guy apparently has never heard of Nevin Shapiro 'cause those were the glory days. Probably not. Probably not. I mean, legend absolutely drilled him, and I was laughing so hard with the George T, Lamar Thomas strip. That was funny. One thing about that one thing about that play though, that play is overshadowed, the play Teague made earlier that was probably the most important play, was that pick 6 when he got toretta, took him back to the house. That put the knife right through Miami's heart. I mean, that play is so forgotten about, I think. Alabama was offensively that night. Yeah, I know Jay Barker oh man, they were brutal. I mean, Lacey had a decent game, but the defensive. He built a career off of that game and all he basically did was hand it to Derek classic. Yeah, exactly. I mean, and just to let that unbelievable defense make those plays. I mean, I can see why Alabama fans hold that defensive sacred because they were just phenomenal. And our boy Antonio langham, who we were talking about the other day. That guy basically saved Roy Kareem or big time with the pick 6 against Florida. You're absolutely right. Yeah, thank goodness for him. I mean, he saved that season and saved Roy Kramer big time. So if you do do the anniversary of Mike price's firing, you should ask kissing and honor Ford if they can come in and debate who's firing was better. Can fire on the tarmac? Again, fire live on the fine bomb show. I know kiffin's story got bigger news. But I thought hunter Ford was more dramatic getting a guy literally got fired on our show. He had broken some big story over his editor's objections. So he's sitting in our studio for those who don't remember, yeah, I know you do Ryan and his editor calls up. Oh, yeah, this is the editor of your paper hunter and the guy said, by the way, hunter, I told you not to write that story. You're fired. I am ruined so hard. That's how I want to go right here. I went reindeer to come over to I got a call for you, Paul. It's over. Well, if I was your boss Paul, I'd fire you live on air. And then I'd take the show over, then I hire you the next day with a pay raise. That's a great idea. I hope somebody's watching. Hey, thanks for the call. I could use the rest of the afternoon off. Kirby smart joins us in 30 minutes when we come back. We'll talk about Alabama getting into the collective business. We'll explain with Philip's studs right after this. "The pride passion and pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul finebaum show hour three podcast. We're back second half the show is live and we will continue with more of your phone calls Matt is in Arkansas. Hey Matt. Hey Paul, how are you? We are doing great. Thank you. Great. Thanks for taking my call. Just wanted to kind of revisit the steps and discussion yesterday, not because I care where steps have been it will be next year because I don't, but I find the potential effects of NIL fascinating and I think this situation with stetson really creates a more important question than where he's going to that he staying or what kind of year he's going to be and that is stetson Bennett realized that his market value is higher in college than it would be in the NFL due to NIL and is this just the beginning of a trend for some players you know to forgo the draft or forgo the NFL or especially in college basketball to cash in on what they see as a higher market value due to NIL. Well, I think there are some players who probably could make more money but not many and the real question if you flip it around for stetson Ben is what were his options had he walked away? Could he have made the NFL I mean, I'm not saying he couldn't have caught on to a team, but he certainly wouldn't have been a high draft choice. We know that. It seems like he may be, yeah, it seems to me that he's hurting his own value by staying especially if it doesn't go well and had he walked away. I think he could have walked into almost anything he wanted to do. Could be. Yeah, I think that if he was unsure about his future and NFL, I mean, it wouldn't we had a unbelievable year, but it wouldn't be difficult to be nervous about what he was going to look like in the NFL. And I mean, given the two options, maybe opt to stay for Matt, if he could have made more money in private business. I mean, he had just, there are plenty of people. I could give you the names if you wanted who have capitalized off of their championships. Now, he still can, even if this year, let's say, let's say Georgia goes ten and two, he still the champion. He's still the quarterback of the national championship team. That is not going to go away. Book ballou has lived off of that win for 40 years. Jay Barker quarterbacked Alabama in 92. He still living off of that. Others are as well. So it's not uncommon to capitalize off of national championships. In spite of what happens after that. Thank you very much for the call. I appreciate you being there. Eric is up next in Georgia. Hey, Paul. You were spot on on JT Daniels and that's all has no idea how the Georgia teammates felt about him. The thing I'd like to talk about is the two uses of the portal the legitimate one where a kid says, I'm never going to get any playing time here and I need to leave. That's beneficial to the kids. It's beneficial to the coach that the team is leaving because it frees up the scholarship for a kid. In the future, versus a player who is never going to productive to the team. The other one, of course, is the poaching of players through financial incentives. And I'm wondering if you have to answer or know how much of the complaining by the coaches you've talked to are about the legitimate use for the poaching. Eric, that's all the coaches talk about privately. And you'll hear Saban dabo others talk publicly about the NCAA. But what they're really saying is we can't allow poaching. We can't allow people coming in and literally buying players off of my roster. Right. So they're fine with the legitimate use. Mostly. Well, I don't think there are many issues with NIL per se. The issues come into using NIL for the transfer portal, which is what's happening. Right, but are they saying that to you? Just in general, they're about the portal. Well, the portal, what you hear, and I think we had, I don't know, who was it the other day that talked about to one of the head coaches said, was talking about a specific time where you have to limit the access. I think the SEC has some clauses where after a certain day, you can't go from SEC team SEC team. But there are no national standards for that. There may be one day. And I don't know where they are on that. But you heard Shane beamer 30 minutes ago talk about he doesn't know what tomorrow will bring in terms of one of his starters deciding to leave the go somewhere else. Right, but I mean, that most likely starters at schools are the ones that would be poached. Yeah, you would think so. It doesn't mean, I mean, Alabama might be a little different. Absolutely. Alabama just took a player one of Vanderbilt's best players. Now, if you're Vanderbilt, you have a fairly small supply of top notch players, and you just lost one to Alabama. Georgia Tech lost one to Alabama. So hey, thank you very much for the call. Really interesting comments. Mike is up next in Kentucky. Hey, Paul, how are you doing today, brother? Okay, Mike. Yeah, you know, you would have thought they would have sat down with some sort of a think tank when I saw the writing on the wall that in IO was coming and set some guidelines, but I guess that would have made too much.

"Here and more of your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 let's check in with pat, who is up next in Austin. Hey pat hey, Paul, how are you? We're doing great. Thank you. I'm glad you hear that. I just was looking at the recruiting ranking yesterday. Yes. And it had Alabama number one yesterday. And any number two in conveyance to reverse. I don't know which one. There are several different recruiting surveys and it really won't matter and told tomorrow, but most surveys believe or report that a and M is going to be number one. I don't know which one you're looking at. I believe it was two 47. Okay. Well, I'm sure you're right. I think the ESPN one which we subscribe to obviously has a and M first, but if you're in the top three, it probably doesn't really make any difference. You have had a great recruiting year. Yeah, and where do you think about steam store cases recruiting New York Texas? Pat he has done phenomenally. I think I still believe in shark even though the season was really a disaster, but he's recruiting very, very well. And that's critical. Thank you for the call. Jerry, is in Texas. Hello, Jerry. Good afternoon. Hey Paul, how are you doing? We're doing it really well. Two things. A concept back end of a story coming home while ago about Jay Barker, former Alabama, a quarterback getting in jail for trying to run down his ex-girlfriend and her girlfriend. She's a country of western stark, and thank our name right now. Sarah, Sarah Evans. He's been married. That's his wife. Well, I think they're still married, technically. Yeah. Hey, is there any have you heard Willie loses job as a radio and after or have you heard like this? I've been friends with Jay a long time. So I've followed that story pretty closely, it happened in Nashville. And I know he has he's issued a statement. I don't really know where it's going. I know there's a hearing coming up here in a couple of weeks. But beyond that, I don't really know any more than what you have heard. Yes. One more thing. I'm involved for life and I wish that you could get more love to hypo. I mean, you priced the South Carolina Kentucky and all of that. I know you heard that he retained every assistant coach on his staff up there, Tennessee. Well, that's fantastic. I am a big fan of high post so I'm glad you mentioned that. And I appreciate your question. Wish I had more for you. Let's check in with Richard in South Carolina. Hello, Richard. Hey, mister Paul, how are you today? I'm doing really well. Thank you. All right, this goes to back to something last week. And I think you'll enjoy this. You were talking about your days at McDonald's. Yes. All right. So I still have my plastic Fisher price McDonald's. I'm 54 years old, but it's in my man cave. That is funny. I think it was the first year that came out with a little plastic guy with a tie on. Oh yeah. And everything, okay? Now after you said something about the double cheeseburger, I went back and I looked, there were two trays in that set. One of them have a big macneil. And one of them has just a regular cheeseburger meal because the double cheeseburger had him come out back there. That is interesting. Why do I still remember to all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, whatever. That has to be 50 years old. Oh yeah. I mean, I'm 54. So I had it when I was what 7? Yeah. And the young lady said a while ago, she's been Halifax, Alabama fan for 54 years. I've been in Georgia. And 44 years and I'm only 54 or so. There was nothing more special as a kid than going to McDonald's. I mean, that was the Trump everything else. Oh, yeah. When your parents let you order the Big Mac, they said. Exactly. That's right. So I didn't know if you remembered what was on those trades, but when you were going on about that the other night, I had to go back and check, you know? Yeah, one day, when things are quieter, I'll do a whole segment on my brief career at McDonald's. It's been received enough scrutiny. Did you wear the green uniform? I vaguely remember mine being either white or blue. Okay. I feel like it's kind of like, yeah, I mean, I don't remember it being green. Yes, sir. Okay. One of the things it's entirely possible to Richard in the Pantheon of thousands of hundreds of thousands of people who have worked at McDonald's, I was possibly the worst employee ever. So you like to talk a lot? Well, I had some I had some bad habits. And I'll go ahead and admit them now. When my friends came, I sometimes forgot to charge them full price. I was, I like to, I prepared the food the way I wanted it, not how they wanted it. So there were some there were some philosophical differences there. And ultimately, I was just a terrible employee. So they made a change. They went in a different direction, as we say. Yes, exactly. You have a great day. Thank you. And look at them now. They have really suffered with my absence. Check in with John in St. Louis. Hey, John, you're on the air. Hi, Paul..

"National title, 3000 yard season through for like what three 70 or something in that game against Clemson? Here's my question to you, though. Can you win a national championship? And historically be undervalued. Is that possible? Well, if you look at it, and even when he won as a championship, my mouth was still open. After he won. So, yes. If you put J coker before winning the NASA championship on anybody's team and say that he will go out and win an asset championship, you will probably say, no. That's a period point blank. And I was surprised that he went as hard as he did. That's a pretty good argument. You make a good argument, will. I'm not. I'm not gonna lie. That's a good argument. You're right. He is like the most nondescript surprising national champion of the last I don't know how many years. Like, again, those LSU guys were kind of like that too. You get them confused, right? Matt Flynn, you give him confused. I will say that I think that Jacob coker was the last of his kind. And maybe that's not even fair to him. Maybe he was better than that. But is there, again, this is an insult, but it's not meant as one. Who's the last game quote unquote game manager to win a national championship? That's cut from the Craig krenzel cloth. You know what I mean? I don't think anybody. I think it's, I think Jake coker is the last one. Right? I mean, who's won the national championship since Jacob coker won the national championship? Deshaun Watson. Joe burrow, Trevor Lawrence, I guess Jalen hurts got one in there, but again, look what he's going on to do. He's starting in the NFL. I mean, these guys are all super, super quarterbacks now. You can't win a title as just a quote unquote game manager anymore. It doesn't work. Although I guess he in book is starting in the NFL this week. I don't know if he counts as a game manager for Notre-Dame. Dennis from Alabama Dennis, welcome to the ball fun bomb show. Hello. What's up, man? Hey. Oh, I was going. It already might have already been mentioned, but created kitchens. Okay. He was a rookie. And he had that touchdown pass through. I don't know who he threw it, too, but it was called out of the back of the end zone. These are replay. Yeah. That's a lot. It's hard to track all these guys. Like I've had to call, thank you for the call, Dennis, we're up against the here. We got to go, but if you go Jay Barker, Andrew zal, Freddie kitchens, Greg mcelroy, Jake coker, Blake Sims. How do you organize all those guys? As far as who's undervalued? I don't think you can count the national champions. I just don't think you can count the national champions as undervalued. Those are guys, you tell your kids about for generations, you're grandkids. I don't think those guys count..

"The break there, my name is Brady gall, by the way. Good Thursday afternoon. Happy. Happy holidays Merry Christmas happy hanukah, the Festivus for the rest of us, happy kwanzaa. Whatever it is you celebrate this week, just be with the ones you love and have a good time and appreciate it. That's my message to folks. I did. I'm in. I have to apologize. I can not believe I did this because of course I remember the mullet. And I am assuming now having received many threats on the Twitter machine, at Braden Gaul. That, of course, he was talking about Steve not Ryan. Spelled with a Y he's got the Y in there. And absolutely Steve Tannehill for South Carolina belongs in this conversation. No question about it. His numbers were way ahead of their time. In the mid early 90s, way ahead of their time. We were talking about Jay Barker earlier. Ten O three over 3000 yards, 8 yards per attempt, 29 touchdown passes in 1995. In South Carolina, those are like pre woful numbers. At very underrated and E me for not recognizing I, man, that's who you were talking about. I'm in Nashville, I'll admit it. My brain went immediately to ride tan hill. Not Steve tannie hill. That's a mistake by me. Of course, Connor basilic transferring from Missouri entering the portal. That makes, I believe, 6 starting SEC quarterbacks to have entered the portal this year. Obviously, miles Brennan goes in and goes back to LSU's Zach calzada goes in. For Texas a and M nix is going to Oregon, emery Jones will play tonight in the union home mortgage gasparilla bowl, UCF and Florida 7 o'clock kick-off on ESPN. Emery Jones will enter the portal after the game at some point. Does that happen on the bus? Like in the locker room? Are you allowed to travel with the team home? How does that work exactly? But Connor basilic leaving Missouri, and it got me thinking about all the talent next year coming back in the SEC and how good it's going to be next year. But I see young hinden hooker KJ Jefferson Will Rogers will leave us Anthony Richardson Spencer Rattler maybe JT Daniels. It could be a great year for quarterbacks. 2013, one of the best years ever for quarterbacking in the SEC, including the great Conor Shaw. And that has been the theme of the show. Find me a more underrated quarterback than Connor Shaw, an SEC, modern SEC history. A lot of great calls, Jared lorenzen, Jason Campbell, Andre Woodson, a lot of good names out there. Casey claussen. So we're sort of being nostalgic today on the program. Thinking about quarterbacks. And I'm in. I apologize personally to you. For being so short sighted. That was a mistake. I hope you hope I can make it up to you. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. Let's go to Mike and Alabama, Mike. Welcome to Paul find bombshell. How are you so? I'm doing wonderful. You doing a good job with the show and I got two names I want to throw out. Let me hear it. I'm an old old man. And you all haven't mentioned converge Holloway once. He and nobody littered up like he did. If you look back, Keith Jackson went crazy over him. He terrified coach Bryant. He was absolutely the tornado that everybody was scared of. Well, and a pretty one I wanted in a pretty important player. Yes, he was an obese still is, but that guy bled orange, you stayed on it. The athletic department to all the changeovers they had. I think he's about as classic as you can get. And the second one will be 2014 Blake Sims. I don't know about his numbers. I went to all the games that year. Either he was absolutely lighten them up. If you look at the 2014 Alabama LSU game those last three minutes, that broke LSU. You look at the games that he had. He had to go up against Ohio State and the sugar bowl they had more talent on that team than probably the lions have right now. And he played a heck of a game against auburn that year. They come back from three touchdowns down and come back and win, I got to throw Blake Sims and Connor's hallway out there to equal anybody else who hadn't got the credit they deserve. I love it. See, this is now we're just throwing names out there to make sure they get some love. And I appreciate that Mike. And obviously connacht Holloway for what he means historically for the conference is obviously incredibly important as well. I was at that game, Ohio State and Alabama in the sugar bowl down in New Orleans. And Blake Sims very underrated season, especially for a converted running back, right? Came into Tuscaloosa as a four star running back recruit. Changes over to quarterback and just has a remarkable season. Link kiff and I believe calling the plays on that offense, Alabama was a heavy favorite in that game though. And so it's hard. It's not fair to Blake Sims, but I just was at the end of round reverse to Michael Thomas at the end of the first half where former future NFL star Michael Thomas, the NFL talent on that Ohio State team was insane, just like it was for Alabama. That was one of the best football games I've ever been to. In person, that I've seen in person. I know Bama phase don't wanna remember that one, but I think you got I think you got a few other rings after that. I think you're all right. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 Anthony from Orlando, Anthony welcome to the fly bob show. Yes. I would like to thank you for taking my call. Sure. I would like to bring up Andrew zell. Oh. All right. Andrew zell. He. Beat auburn in auburn. Twice. Which, I believe, that's probably the only time that's ever happened, correct? I'd have.

"Alabama? It was three O only behind Jason Campbell. If I remember writing myasthenia gravis in high school, was mister Alabama in 2001. Never went on to appropriate but had an incredible career at Albert. You know what's funny is when you mention his name, the first thing that comes to mind is exactly what you said, which is the winning against Alabama. That was also a different time. We're throwing for like 23, 24, 2500 yards was considered pretty good, right? Yeah. And now I will say having just mentioned Andrew Woodson at Kentucky. And I appreciate the call, because I want to dive into Brandon Cox for a second here. This is the whole point of this show today. Nostalgia for SEC quarterbacks. I appreciate the color. I'll say this. I think Brandon Cox had more interceptions than he had touchdowns, his final season. He was not very efficient. He did not play a great season as final year. And that's the he threw 9 touchdown passes. His senior season in O 7, Andrew Woodson through 40. That same season. So I think you nailed it because of his career against Alabama. And because he was just a winner and he played a boatload of games, he wasn't the numbers weren't there. I had to go back and check though, 'cause when you said his name, my first thought was that sounds about right. He's pretty undervalued. Also, it would have been a backup on the O four team to Jason Campbell, of course. So okay, all right. I don't think he's I don't think he's better than I don't think he's better than Andrew Woodson or Connor Shaw. I don't think he's a better player. But I like the call. I like to call this is the direction I want to go with this folks. 855-242-7285. Roger from Alabama roger. Welcome to the Paul find bob show. Hey, Ryan. Nice, John. Billman for Paul. I don't know whether anybody has brought up Jay Barker yet, but I'll throw him out there as one of the most underrated quarterbacks in SEC history. And he wasn't just underrated. At times he was maligned. But if you go back and look when he was a true freshman, he took over for Danny Woodson part way through the year, led a big comeback against Tennessee to keep the current winning streak back then alive then of course his sophomore year quarterback to Alabama to a 13 O undefeated season beat Florida in the first ever SEC championship game, had a whopping 18 yards passing in the national championship game, but won a national title. And his senior year, of course, he really started airing it out a little bit more so that he could stretch the field through outgunned Eric Zaire in the 94 Georgia Alabama game and led Alabama to a huge comeback from being down big time in halftime. I think he ended up top 5 in the Heisman that year. So you look at the plan for two SEC championships win and one win in a national championship. And all the success he had kind of under the radar even when some Alabama fans were clamoring for the backup at times. I think he's one of the most underrated, if not the most underrated quarterback in the SEC. Interesting. You make a heck, you made a heck of a case, roger. Thank you, man for the call. You that is how you argue your point right there. That's how you discuss a player and make a case, especially for a guy who had more interceptions than touchdowns in his first three. Each of his first three seasons. Now, this is also where statistics are virtually impossible to compare, right? It's almost impossible to compare 1500 yards passing in four touchdown passes in a season to something that happens in 2021. The game is just a different. It's a different game. There's no question. Here's my one issue with Jay Barker. And it's the same I have with Greg mcelroy. You can say the same thing about Chris leak maybe. Can you truly be on this list if you've won a national championship? Because no one will ever forget your name. If you want to, if you're the quarterback for the national champion, I almost that almost eliminates you from this conversation. Maybe that's not fair. You made a roger you made a heck of a case. Maybe it's not fair. But and again, if you look at some of the efficiency metrics, which I'm a big fan of, Jay Barker, 8.9 yards per attempt, that's pretty salty. 8.8 yards per attempt is senior year pretty salty. Those are pretty good numbers. But the counting statistics just simply weren't there in 1992 in an Alabama offense. Just one there. 93 94. Just wasn't there. So I don't know. If you win the national title, are you still eligible for this conversation? Because you go down in history forever. As the guy who won the title. So I don't know. That's a tricky one. That's a tricky one. 855-242-7285 more of your calls. My name is Braden gold. This is the Paul finebaum show right here on ESPN radio. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast..

"Rice young is a hell of a football player. He's really, really good. But having an Alabama guy if there's getting boring, which is my pathway to this, can we put Kenneth walker at the top of the list at the Heisman trope? Can we just do that? He's a great story. He's a transfer from wake forest. He came out from anonymity to be the star player yesterday. Maybe to start playing this season, give Kenneth walker the national love he deserves. It's too lazy to put in Alabama quarterback up there. Yeah, and by the way, Matt corral just light that tweet because he is he just was obliterated at a clear the clear blue sky yesterday as a favorite. The husband race. But I think having covered Alabama football for 30 some odd years. It has been a they've had very few Heisman candidates at the quarterback position. In fact, they had Jay Barker in the 90s who really was not a legitimate candidate. I mean, I think he came in 5th. And then AJ McCARRON made a run, not a serious run against Johnny manziel. So what's happened lately has been pretty remarkable with jaylen hurts and Mac Jones and now Bryce young. So I understand your angst. But I will agree with you. This week in the Heisman, although Heisman polls, Kenneth walker is at the third am I getting that right? I haven't checked the market lately. Because I called stepson Bennett the third a few weeks ago at Athens, I said, he's the fourth. I'm sorry. Yeah, I got to check the cryptocurrency market. I trophy. A race right now, but I'm sure if this was your producer on your radio show, that would have been the quote from that is picking Alabama quarterbacks is boring. And then I just tweeted it, don't worry about it. Good, thank you. Now all of Tuscaloosa's after me. The other game in the Big Ten, Ohio. And by the way, you want, you also said Nick Saban is old, because Halloween's a 70th birthday. Yeah, so real quick before we move on to a house day Penn State. He does turn 7. We're taping this on Halloween morning. Nick Saban, happy birthday, 70 years old. I mean, maybe he won't. Maybe he's gonna be there until he's 100 as we discussed the other day on your show. But 70 years old, 7 national championships, I would guess that if his career was a golf course, he's making the turn on the back 9. I mean, maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. No, what are you talking about, Matt? I'm a fine bomb caller now. I mean, that's ridiculous. I mean, he's got a good 2030, I don't know, maybe 50 years left in him. Yeah. Who's that Matt fellow with the big hair? He doesn't know. That's our happy birthday. A pretty boy up in Connecticut. Yeah, what is he now up there that northeast elite? That's our happy birthday to Nick Saban. They had the week off, so that'll be our Alabama conversation portion of the program. Ohio State coming out of the bio week. It wasn't a beauty contest. They're not gonna put that Picasso up in the Louvre, but they get the win over Penn State, which at this point at this stage of the season, anything can happen 33, 24, the final. So week in and week out with the schedule plan itself out, Ohio State still Paul. I mean, they're completely different team than they were when they played Oregon and I would not be stunned on Tuesday night to see them inside the top four in the playoff rankings. They could they. And suddenly, now the new game of the year in college football is Ohio State and Michigan state in three weeks. That was not originally red letter, but I think you're right. The real issue now is, you know, how do you measure Ohio State and Cincinnati? Because one has a loss, one has a resume that would not get you a job anywhere. So I don't quote you from last week. This is a television show Tuesday night. And it really doesn't mean much more than that other than I think where does Cincinnati begin. Because they really don't have much left. And one of their big games remaining was hurt this way. So at least, at least Notre-Dame is doing its part. And I know we're getting deep into the weeds. So I have a feeling the committee will play chalk here, I don't know why because I never trust 13 people in a room and Grapevine Texas. But I think they'll play the political game with Cincinnati. 13 people in a room are great buying Texas president day isn't good. You take that thing back about 50 years. You're really dealing with some issues. Yeah. I am. It's a good, it's kind of a good bridge to this and we'll be like everyone else who puts out our rankings because this is the ESPN college football podcast and we may as well just keep making everyone angry. I'll say this for Cincinnati. And I think Luke fickle could have his pick of jobs, in fact, I even hesitate to put this out on the ether sphere. If that's a thing or whatever. Ether, thank you. They were displaced for a month because of the hurricane. They had a ton of injuries. Yesterday, their quarterback that young quarterback could they like Michael Pratt didn't even play. There was no reason Cincinnati should not have been up 35, nothing at the half. Now tulane played hard, but even tulane playing hard. If you're.
