"My name is Jason Middleton. I cover business and finance through the week. We're gonna talk about headlines in just a second. But first I want to introduce Lance Strauss. He's a senior instructor at Online Trading Academy. Lance owes a pleasure to talk with you, a pleasure to be talking to you too. Okay. So I'm on morning radio. And I have to watch the headlines all the time. And what I see and hear when I go out is that people react to headlines when it comes to certain companies could be a good story could be a bad story. But it's just a headline of the day kind of thing is that what you guys discuss in that free introductory seminar at Online Trading Academy. We want to tell you that the big boys on law street, which are the only ones that are consistently making money all the time and the investment community. They don't use a lot of criteria that the average person thinks they need to use like balance sheets and PE ratio 's and earnings per share and stock scanning we don't need to no secret sauce. They they used to. We just need to know when they're going to be buying and selling, and we have a patented way of identifying now that's not right all the time. But most of the time it is where we can know were Goldman Sachs you're going to buy a whole bunch of shares. And where they're gonna probably sell a whole bunch of shares. We don't care what the company name is. We don't care whether they have great products. We don't care. You know, if the president is a convicted felon that stuff matters. We just wanna know where they get. Then where we now we have a way of doing it. I understand you've adapted a formula and patented the formula. So it's a class. First of all, I think that since I've taken it. I can speak to the fact that it removes a lot of the emotionality that comes with business headlines. Like, I said I do. Do it all week long? And I see certain companies have good days bad days up and down stock prices move up and down. But but you kind of like kind of take out the irrationality that we might be tempted to succumb to take the guessing. And it looks like hey, that sounds pretty good. Because that doesn't matter. I mean, people don't believe me they push back, and we're not for everybody. But. All that stuff. Doesn't matter at all those indicators people by all these indicators magic red light green light system that doesn't work either. None of it works at care. What the big boys you go? And that's what I kind of understood in the class that I was taking too. But a lot of people I noticed were not in there necessarily just for to have a nice chat with you on a Saturday morning. A lot of them came in with one focus like the guy sitting next to be retirement planning. The woman sitting in front of me wanted to plan for her kids go to college that kind of stuff what is a range of people and their needs. That are being brought to the to the first free seminar narrow range, they need more buddy period. Okay. That's fair push comes to shove either because they're working, and they're not making up money or they're worried. They're going to lose their job. I mean all the air generics. The bay area. There's a billion if you guys out there, and you're replaceable by the that the younger kids coming in from offshore. And they're going to work you do your job at half of what you're being paid. And or you'll be replaced by two of them. Or or or people all of a sudden, they're fifty five and find out there getting laid off, and you work into work and all your colleagues, look like they're twelve years old. That's how you know you get to old. Yeah. I have a friend who does career coaching for people over fifty who have gotten laid off in his business is booming. I have to say, unfortunately. Yeah. People who you it's easy to get laid off. I had a guy just the other week. And I had a guy at age seventy four was trying to look for a job that never happened. You know, so good luck. Yeah. And we're in the bay area are the available locations to take that center. But right now, we're doing relocations we have our bay area headquarters which down in San Jose by the airport. Just like you go on the airport except kind of stop before you get all the right next to right next thing casino. Right. Right. So the trading thing doesn't work out. And now go out and buy a gift, I have so much love for you. It's it's impressive who but apparently Amazon a New Yorker in the middle of a break-up. Yeah. They are. They're they're breaking up for sure. The more. I thought about this. I think it's a great ending to this saga. Of Amazon trying to find an H to a second location for a major headquarters and all it did really was reminded me of how upset and angry. I was during this whole process because the whole search look this put the con in contest. If you ask me because they gamified basically subsidies they worked America against itself. Yep. So state that hate that hate that way. I and there was no chance. There was no chance that El Paso was gonna land HQ too. But what they tried to do. Or maybe even Dallas say Dallas that had a viable chance. I thought Dallas was would have been a good choice. A Raleigh North Carolina would have been good choice to state, but they were never going to go there for a couple of reasons. One is they needed the hub? And they need to take that east coast presents for sure, okay? Also, Mr. bazo has a house in northern Virginia. Mister Bezos has a house in New York both within six miles of where these things were going to land. I think that when you choose where you're going to put a second headquarters you choose someplace where you. Almost walk to. Oh, I see. I think that's part of it. And I think the other thing is that the the weaponization of this that I didn't like at the time and still don't right now. And I hope it doesn't spin up again is that your pitting municipalities against each other to see who can give the way the most money. Last great now are we talking about? Or are we talking about Jeff Bezos? So we're talking about basis right now. But this I think this this is a long hang on Jason Middleton house detective really fired by this very every study that's ever been done shows at least by ACA, economists who look at bigger picture trends on these things show that time and time and time again when municipalities get into these massive subsidies, it never, and I mean never pays off for the community must took what was a couple of billion from Nevada, and whatever that is outside of Reno for that, gigafactory, they will never get the money back. And anytime, you do that you you you can do Minh the little things to keep people like, well, we'll do a little tax abatement for a couple of years or whatever your, hey, we've got this vacant lot. Go ahead and build a headquarters building there. But that's the extent of it. Anytime you go beyond that, you don't get your money back. Exactly. And you know, I mean or build some incentives into it to hold them to it. Yep. Put something on the back end. If we if we don't create twenty five thousand jobs as promised by X date that we will repay X amount of money make it more equitable like that, you know, with this really reminded me of it's a sugar high. You're absolutely right. It's a sugar high economically. It never pays off in the long run. Which sounds a lot like the Olympics to me? I am not a fan of the Olympics. This exact you know, what the Olympics? Fixes a movement. And we all need one every day is in my opinion because that is the worst. And that's all we're doing is just just duplicating that again. And again it happened in. I believe it was Wisconsin or Michigan that I think of Samsung was going to put thousand jobs to a factory Foxconn. That's right, Foxconn, Wisconsin going to put ten thousand jobs in six months ago. Now, they're not going to do anything. Right. And then they were and then they're not again. Right. So I mean, it's it's been this weird roller coaster and remember how Trump in government President Trump excuse me and governor Walker really oh my gosh. CCC? No. You didn't turn out. You can't do things that way. We'll dig this. Okay. Google on Monday. Jason is on Monday bought one at least one point seven million square feet in lower Manhattan, right next to the Holland tunnel on the Manhattan side. Did they ask for any subsidies there? No, no today. No. They didn't. Did they get any though? No. I didn't know this. I don't even know about this deal one point seven billion. It's just it's it's an old candy factory. I think right right near the exit of though. Valentine on the main actually smart place to locate. It totally look and also in Amazon's own statement today. It says we love New York, and we have a five thousand employees footprint there and we intend to grow it. Did you need these subsidies bang right there? Everything's living in the shadows. Right now. Wow. I you know, what? But here's the good news Jason Middleton shine on shine on. And I mean this, and I'm very optimistic about it. People making a big stink about ridiculous subsidies worked. Yes. It did. You're totally right. It was a grassroots efforts in Long Island city, and this is a big egg on face for the governor of New York and the mayor of New York City as well. They've bent over accuracy started it started. Well, the Blasios dumpster fire on wheels right thinking about running for president. Now. He's he's to talk. Hey, don't pay on. Don't be don't be height that much taller than I am. Anyway, back to point Amazon played the country. They really it was it was assault on the Commonwealth. And and I'm glad that it worked out the way it did. But it does remind me of how sick this entire system is built. Yeah. Thank you. I agree with you wholeheartedly. So all right, so Amazon. So they're still moving forward their crystal city. Yeah. HQ too. They're going to continue northern Virginia. That's a big area right next to Washington National airport twenty five thousand jobs, they're they're not gonna look for another h two they say right now. Why would they? And by the way, if they're smart about this. And let's be honest us is very smart. Yes. He will look at a place like Dallas. He will look at place. You know, like, you said, even a Raleigh Durham, but I really think if if I'm Jeff Bezos plate and a place douse makes so much sense because it's central right? And you're going to get an and you talk about low taxes and everything else. Taxes is really good for all that stuff and has a huge highly educated workforce. There's also a political bent here to Amazon is seen as being left leaning. So I think putting it into purple or red state makes a lot of sense to balance it out politically speaking at that makes sense. Hey, I got one more thing for you, though, late on just totally. I don't know. I hope this is okay that I just totally shock you on all this stuff. Didn't prep. Yeah. You're always prepped would you talking about? Here's what about on the electric car front. Just wanna go down this path for a second. Because you know, I drive a plug in hybrid right cry for that I had a B E V A pure battery electric vehicle these things makes so much sense in states like California, and it just does. And I'm glad that California's pushing forward, and because it just is on so many levels here, and I won't go into all that. But the rest of the country. I still have these questions like, you know, everybody drives a pickup truck, and I know tesla one of the other companies working on a pickup, truck and electric pickup. But the issue with batteries that I've experienced in talked about with other people is in those cold, cold, cold states, your battery doesn't work the same. It doesn't. It doesn't have the same charge capacity, and you need to have the heater on so much more. Right. Is that really a technology? That's going to work for the rest of the country. Like, it does in places like California. No, I agree with you that that's definitely a market headwind for the adoption of electric vehicles because then you're back into the range anxiety zone. Right. Like, you can't be sure. Anymore? I couldn't stand it anymore. Right. And yeah, you're you're totally right. There are I had an inventor on late last year that was working on some new battery technologies and try to spin it out. It's a little bit above my pay grade to understand it all, but we're to the point where with art existing technology. We can't folded up anymore. If you will if you think about yeah, you know, and so because of the friction in the heat that it will generate so we might be at an impasse until we get the next technological leap when it comes to vs. Oh that that's an I had not considered that what you just described. Yeah. And lest we forget, the environmental impact of the manufacturer of those massive batteries. I I don't know why that gets glossed over by so many environmentalists, and I get that we need to fix point pollution in places like San Francisco in places like Los Angeles, we need to get rid of the airport. Right. Yeah. But but to make those batteries is is horrific. Well, Ilan is moving gigafactory to China as well. And I think I'm gonna keep an eye on that because I think that the next technological leap might come out of that factory because it's state sponsored, of course, you have to be in bed with China's government. So they may see and market opportunity for themselves. Did you see the expose from a local buffalo station on the disaster? That gigafactory to is there. No, I did not oh Lincoln send it to you. And then bails write a certain kind of show if you will don't forget to this week. The biggest short seller against tesla is suing Yvonne musk over his take the thing private stock manipulation too. So there is that. And then you have kind of a brain drain apples been hiring a lot of the of the car technology and engineer people not just the software people, but the hardware people too. Okay. Now help me on the trying to go back and walk through the timeframe in my mind. It was this guy. Dave Morton was the announcement that Elon Musk taking the company private that was within this month. So that happened under this guy's watch. Right. Yeah. I happen to I. Yeah. About a month ago? Yeah. The first week of August is when the tweet came out two weeks later, the SEC said, hey, we're interested in what you have there. And then the blog post came out that walked it all back. Okay.
