"And it's like four setups, you know? That whole notion of I never want to get in the way. Every day, we had a basic setup for what we called it the system, right? And it was just kind of we knew how to shoot our day. The Dolly had to be here at this time of day for the windows and the light. And then we'll do our close ups and so we had this system in place and each day we would add some new technique to it. Whether it was panning or sort of more movement or a tighter shot and then we'd have just enough time for one special almost virtually all of those special none of those special shots were used. You know, we did we would always try something, then we'd get into the edit and I would say no, it feels like the director. That feels like I'm trying to do something. So it would get rid of it. So and this applied for the first, I think it's about the first 50 to 60 minutes of the conversation. When Jason Isaacs gets up, that's when we transition into handheld. And it's actually it was really we talked about the opening shot of moonlight. It's on the car, the hood of the car and my hustle Ali gets out of the car. I think this is kind of how it happens. And then the camera lifts up and then becomes this long extended I think a steadicam. But I love that because it looks as if it's a stable shot a stationary shot. So that transitioned to handheld. It's Jason Isaacs and we're stable on the table. And as he gets up, we kind of jerk up and to handheld. And from that point on the movie is handheld until we switch to a different ratio aspect ratio, but anyway. Sorry. That was a little tangent. What were you talking about? What I like to talk about. I mean, I'm honestly fascinated by filmmakers looking at another film and saying, what can I take from that? Well maybe on my own. So now what are you gonna do and make your alien invasion movie? Like, how do you go from a film like this? I don't know, you know, it's tough, and maybe I should keep this stuff to myself, but, you know, obviously, I've been meeting people, you know, all of a sudden now, you know, I'm a director and a bit of in reality. I've only been a director since like, you know, Sundance, right? So now people are kind of paying attention. And so I pitched for things and, you know, I get, I get nervous because I feel like I'm very concerned about how the real communities in real survivors and real families will receive the movie. You know, maybe they don't want to forgive. Maybe they don't think this, you know, reconciliation. I mean, there's so much there's a universal element to this movie that's about repairing broken relationships, whether it's marriages, you know, dealing with grief, dealing with people that you want to hate. And there's a universality to that that has nothing to do with school shootings. And so I have concern that, you know, that that's not maybe how someone that survived the Parkland shooting feels right now. And part of me thinks like I can't use the alien movie for an example. I feel like I can't announce because I have some platform as, you know, having directed my movie at Sundance or you know, I got this movie that's being distributed. I'm going to go make my big budgeting..

"I didn't even know I had one of those. And she was covering the project, and she said, Jason Isaacs wanted to be, which was just floored me because this was so this was such a sort of pipe dream, you know, and I kind of hypothetical for the last couple of years at that time. And even in even in my wildest dreams, just having actors and getting a maid, no offense, the theater actors. But, you know, the people I had in mind were not names. They were not well-known, they were not, you know, movie stars. They were not Jason Isaacs. So that was, if anything, when I finally met him, I was intimidated or scared and thinking oh, my God, what have I done? You know, now I have to deal with this. And I don't know if I can handle working with actors like this. But yeah, so anyway, long story short, no, it was not easy getting money. How much of the kind of creative decision making? 'cause you know, this is a, like I said, a very intimate movie has a play like structure, largely one location was that entirely was a design that way entirely because you knew it would be easier to make a film like that, because given the subject matter? I'm not gonna lie. That definitely played a part. I mean, of course it did. You know, I wrote, probably the only other Finnish screenplay I have. Everything else is sort of still in a rough form is literally it's an alien invasion movie. It's an alien movie. And I remember my manager just being like, what the hell am I supposed to do with this? You know, it was like, you know, some $100 million budget thing. And so I realized, like, get it, you know, just like, it was a reality check, where if I'm going to get my foot in the door, if I'm going to make a movie, I got to lower my site. I didn't want or seek out one location or let alone one room film. But when I came across these meetings, it was sort of the lightbulb that all kind of clicked. So that was an element, but I believe this and this was I was adamant about this and it was really this sort of guiding it was kind of a north star that the movie had to take place in real time, at least the conversation. I did not. I always said there's no flashbacks. There's no cutaways. There's no inserts. Ultimately, the conversation does have a cutaway, a sort of singular moment where we do something different..

Ed's it sucks right so it just seems in terms of the announcement of representatives from hbo. It seems like natalie portman has stepped down and based on the lack of that star power. We no longer have funding. And we won't be able to do this. No and so since or her attachment was the reason. The project greenlight. She was also set to oversee as as executive producer. Obviously most of these big stars are executive producers. Now on these shows. Natalie portman is one of the biggest so It looks like that's exactly what happened that there was a project she was attached for. Some reason unforeseen personal reason she could not no longer Do the project and so the project went away. "Lastly guys is there was another new thing Jason Isaacs who played Captain Gabriel Lorca in Season One star trek discovery brought up the idea of Lorca whether it was his tearing character or. The original Captain Gabriel Lorca. Showing up in strange new worlds. I kinda dig it I think Jason Isaacs. Fantastic. And he clearly is having the time of his life star. Trek? Heather I'm pretty sure. I can get your guests on this one but what do you think about this? Okay so I love Jason Isaacs and I really enjoyed. Captain Lorca in season one. But. I think as much as I think there there is a place in the current star Trek. To Bring Back Lorca especially the Prime Universe version of Lorca because I, think if you bring the character back, it should be the original version and not the taryn universe version. I don't think it should happen in strange new worlds. and. Here's why. Because, especially, at the end of season one, Lorca was the bad guy. He was the big bad of the entire season practically and going into season two when they introduced pike to the ship and the discovery and viewers they really. Strongly enforced at least over the first couple of episodes of season two that pike was the entire opposite. Of Lorca SO I. As much as I would love to see the the Prime Universe and not the bad guy version of Lorca come back into the star. Trek Universe I don't think strange new worlds is the best way to introduce him because especially, if you're gonNA if it's going to be the Prime Lorca, he's always going to be seen as the bad guy compared to pike and I want them to introduce the Prime Lorca but he needs to be introduced in a situation where he's not going to be the bad guy. and. So I think that on the hopefully upcoming eventually at some point section thirty, one show. The during our. Lovely Emperor Gel I. think that would be the perfect situation. To introduce prime, Lorca, back into the Star Trek Universe because in that instance in that story going up against section thirty one and also an emperor former emperor from Tarran universe prime? Lorca is going to be seen as the good guy. I think if you introduce. Prime Lorca with Pike Prime Lorca is still always going to be seen as less than Pike. Because they worked so hard to make pike look as good model captain workers always going to be seen. Warsaw I. I like your idea in section thirty, one Lorca coming back. But I do think that there would be room in strange new worlds for maybe a Captain Lorca Redemption Storyline I. think that could work. If they were willing to do maybe like a two or a three part kind of thing kind of like how ds nine would do in their early season sort of a a short story arc that would probably be the way to do it. But I definitely like your idea of section thirty, one Patrick. This idea of Lorca returning to star Trek Somehow, what do you think? I really liked cutters idea and I hadn't thought of that way before the if he were to show up in world's, he would kind of look like a less you're still even though he you know this lurk of would be the prime lurker the good guy..

This is the right to buy Tony Ceremony and he's directed lots of different wallner automation including the scooby. Doo things so you know he is in the one I wanNA run. They just do different things all the time right I. mean you mean like like giant French I mean like Scooby Doo from I'd say that's the biggest one I don't know. I don't really keep track to do a lot of won't do love like. Mine animation and Holly Quin can stuff. I guess those big then for kids, are they? Usually they're? Grown is at hanna-barbera. No one brothers. Okay I'm sticking with the Hanna Barbera theme like this even on a American on the bucks to see it. Has It anyway? Actually doesn't says WB animation interesting. So maybe they bought. Maybe they bought it up. Some IMDB reviews this the review process. To Go I'm DB and look. No while the people who love this movie think. That'd be so boring so boring. This is the people on MGB. Disliked this movie for some reason or another? Let's see what they think and you're here to make fun of them or in cherish them. We're talking about an animated Scooby Doo movie here and these people spent. I don't know quite a while to write several paragraphs sometimes. On why they didn't like this movie, So this guy says this is not Scooby Doo. For those hoping to watch fun origin story of Scooby Doo I'll maybe a giant fun epic mystery adventure film. This film misses the mark completely what you should expect to see is another average. CGI Animated Cliche, extremely bland, predictable surveyor film. The film tried to accomplish too much. Join its runs on ends up accomplishing nothing. Sangre about the superhero part of the film. Yeah, but that's was what they were going, so you can't really. He literally just saved you from the killing curse. Like, I get what you get the joke that like Dhabi caused a lot of issues the happened right after that. Right after right after he goes, thank you master Potter. And he goes Dhabi. Just never tried to save my life again. It'd be like, oh, okay. Pathetic enough killing them. Harry Potter and his hubris. Jason ISAACs was also the voice of the bass list. No, no that that's incredible. They stole that from. That he was ever in run to me with scores. Eighty percent from creeks. Consensus is eighty percent. Even more wrong more wrong. You know what? Hey, look, I don't give a shit. So. Yeah. That much runs over our synopsis a little the history as well as the production. So now, we can get into our meat and potatoes wonderful, which is our favorite parts. The part where there was Magic's. Wow, I have a few like for me. It was like little details in this movie. God Ron's rogue being gray instead of black because it's all hand me downs because he's poor. I liked dobby jumping on the bed and not doing it correctly. But having the time of his fucking. Oh, yeah. I've never left like that. I've never left like. Anything you want to have as much like himself? Like loving it. Would you think of a was it bump bump, the lamb lamb? Oh, yeah. Yeah. That was a lot of fucking hit yourself interface with they had little things like when he casts Gilderoy Lockhart cast pixie. I can never say this pesky pixie pester Nomi nothing happens at all right? Like, it's not even a shitty. Spill it's not all he just does something. And then it takes it. Little moments like Dumbledore win. When Gilderoy says, I know the exact counter curse. I wish I had been here. Dumbledore literally just lowers his glasses and looks at him and just stares like fucking you so much. Budget? Another little detail. I'm gonna just like rapid-fire mine is Davi when he comes out of Harry Potter's closet for the for the second time after he's there. His a soccer the perfect foreshadowing for later in the movie when he's given a sock to three. I I can't say enough about this part of everyone's like four times when we were watching it together ways this free winding. Yes. When when he's growing his bones back, the nurses name Humphrey Humphrey when she walks in Drako is going. Stop making such a fuss. You can go. Just like one of my favorite things. He sounds like I did the first time I saw pretty girl when I was like six. Yeah. But my favorite part of tire film favor. The entire film will retroactively know why? When we talk about characters and stuff how sorta gone is at the end with haggard not the end mines in the middle. Okay. The end with Hagrid when everyone's cheering for him. And he's like welcomed back, and you find out how much everyone loves him was really important to me because you also find out in this find out more about it in the book, but in this movie as well that he was basically hated because he's intimidating like he's a half giant, and everyone thinks is like stupid and violent and he gets blamed for crimes murder for a big crime and one has his magic taken away, and he's exiled and like he's such an outcast and no one believes in except like Dumbledore mcgonagall. And it's the reason he loves creatures so much is because like they're outcasts to and he knows what it's like to have this moment where he's accepted by everyone in the school was like really touching one person. It's what I hope happens to Stephen. Theory. Nobody no reference making a murder. I got you. That's my my there's a lot of little things. But that's my favorite anyone else..

"Number five for me ninety four out of a hundred already said it talked about it enough Beale street feel streak at talk massive Oscar snub number five for me on my list, number five of the audience. All right. It's guessing time number five audience who can get the most correct? I'm gonna keep guessing fall until I hit mission. Imposs-? What was what was the movie John show searching searching, I'm but that a great fuck and movie, urging was no it's green book audiences green book at number five. Number four, Ken, Jack. I never four his death of stone. And we talked about a minute ago. It is fucking credible. My favorite, I think pobably favorite overall comedy of this year. One of the best are comedies. I've seen in a really long time. Such an I think they're choice of who's the guy agnosio something the guy who does veep, right? Yes. It's the guy who does eve I forget his name. But it is the guy who does. So the choice of him to let everyone do their own native accents, pick whatever they want fucking great just having Shemi doing weird Brooklyn accent. And having Jason ISAACs to is cockney. Accent is. General dukov like, it's fucking awesome. It is so good very well pace Michael Palin cracking up from start to finish the way that they pasted or kind of like formed it all around like their relationship with actual death. Stone was just so funny so got infighting if you haven't seen it you have to it is like a start to finish like laugh out loud. Funny movie. Our new chief? Guess stolen, spill son. Yes, don't fill Rupert friend. I will not go down. I will not go down. They spits on himself. So funny number four number four stars born. I. I was surprised Bradley Cooper did not get nominated for best director. Shame to this is. I think argued the exact opposite point. I you said I don't think it'll be in consideration for best actor now I went back and actually watch this again some parts weaken. And I think I have to revise to agree with Ken Jack on his assessment that Bradley Cooper, probably about more brought more to the film just in terms of acting than lady Gaga portrayal was mazing as we talk about him, portraying a character dealing with alcoholism and mental health issues..

"Like if it's got that same almost improvise qualified improvise. But yeah, they probably has a general setup. And some things some marks the actress to hit, but probably let them have some fun with it. Because it shows. It's not surprising that the guy who did veep creative. It's an acerbic little west wing. Right. A little aired Sorkin. I didn't get that. Because I watch the west wing. So I couldn't tell you very, of course, a little like, much more humorous. I mean, give you very funny. And this isn't sorta hooves of moves real like, it's got that rhythm. Yes. I found more dry more rise British. It's almost a Sorkin to see that cat Monty python? British Aaron Sorkin if If you. you. This is not available to stream free anywhere. You can obviously rent it. Like, I did on Amazon or on video, I suppose an number of services well worth it. It's a funny movie. It's like. You're gonna hate this. It's a little bit. Like what we do in the shadows. But not a mockumentary. Of course, a little more of a driving narrative. He's not selling this, right guys. Okay. So not stone is the actual historical. Look at the day. Let's say storage is nowhere near accurate listening the days after stalling guys. And it's a look at his cabinet as people that were surrounding him and they use real name. She played by the Steve Shammy him up. Jason ISAACs is in there as a hard as nails military leader. And it's definitely a lampooning of it. But not really assert his tub. Certes take. However, they're not attempting Russian accents. Right, right. They decided I read about that. When I flipped us this months ago, the reason for that was they didn't want the actors to get hot up with the accents to be able to just rip and real to do their thing. And and you accept it. After not very long. I like it. I'd rather have. I'd rather have them do that. Then do Russian accents totally or speak Russian. And then I got every subtitles if you're gonna do it just go all in. It's call me like this. The most impressive thing about this movie, though, is he was able to make this like laugh out loud funny. Just absurd with some really big, you know, heinous subject matter. Yes. And the end gets starkly different tone. It gets kinda serious and you buy in those two I would imagine that's never gonna work. I'm not gonna buy I've been laughing for the last hour and a half, but you buy in. And it's it's almost every different sucker punch ending movie sucker punch. But like, you know, you've been left us all the time. Like, oh, this is deadly serious. And there are in. It was based on facts. I mean, it's based on real occurrence based, but miss things, you know, these these events more or less transpired. Sure stuff with the Royal or show that happened that way. But that was funny maybe version of that off the street. That's good. But it's probably about as realistic as patent or Adidas. I really like nitpicking I joined it as well. Funny moving. I'm not picking you're where nitpicking we're splitting hairs Logan coming up next. Before we let me just say, this kind of another all the flick fashion that we just did I can tell you. This guy's the best thing. I've seen though since I saw you last week by far away. And I'm always episodes. Holy fuck. I know you guys been telling me I'm finally doing it patriot kicks fucking as it is next level shit. Patriot. Gibson movie. No, not be patriots patriot on on Amazon prime getting.
