"SPN app, and Sirius XM channel eighty Jason gov? She is Rachel Lindsay and is time for us to go out to our shell Pennzoil performance line. What we find ESPN NBA front office inside of Bobby Mark's drop some knowledge on his Bobby. Thank you so much for giving us some time on your weekend feeling. Good. Jason. How are you? How are you? Bobby, thanks. Yeah. We're just sitting here telling people I told you. So Rachel's backtrack. That. Bobby, let's start with, with a team that is not in the NBA finals. But my want us to re imagine what they are after seeing some of the weaknesses of the Golden State Warriors, those Houston Rockets and Mike, dad, Tony have rekindled discussions about a contract extension and are close nearing agreement sources of told ESPN's, Tim McMahon this thing. Seemed like he was getting ready to go off the rails, you got for, you know, holding press conferences, while walking down hallways. Being the Jerry Jones of, of NBA basketball. What's happening right now in Houston? And do they think that their, their window of opportunity has opened up from what they've seen the Golden State Warriors here in the last couple of games? I think it's a little bit of the learning curve for a new owner until cheaters. For about two years here that you can't run a rocket the basketball team like you do your own business and to structure a coach's contract, one extension likely chain with mighty in Tony. I never seen that before. Basically performance onus is in its you start low and then kind of build your way out there. So I think I think probably the last couple of weeks was probably educating him on as far as the business guy. And how you probably can't go about, you know with your head coach and how you structure with your coaches here or something that's going to get resolved here. I think it's going to be interesting. What they do with your coaches because they let go of Jeff is delic- and ROY Rogers and in what length of extension easier. It's hard for in coast to come on board when basically on a on a two year deal. Yes, they will have somebody, but to get the top of the line assistant, coach. That's a little bit of a challenge there. Bobby the narrative last week ever since we heard that they weren't agreeing on negotiations when it comes to the head coach was okay. They have to make changes because what they've been doing hasn't been working. And we know that they don't have enough Cass base to get a max free agent. It looks like they're gonna keep Dan Tony. So what are the rockets going to do to change things to move forward? To get off this to get over this playoff hop and be playoff contenders. Why I think when you know. Came out last week with, you know, telling Chris Paul I thought it was more of an easier reaction here yet, she. Back to back years here, but I was, let's take a deep breath, golden going to stay roster. Where will look like this, the Golden State team could be different without without Kevin Durant. And yes, you couldn't Chris Paul out there. I didn't I didn't see a market for Chris Paul, as far as what he's owed three years twenty million dollars to get an upgrade there. The same with the same clink cappella. And when I wrote about it, and yet. You know in, in four or five players here. It's basically it's basically trying to hit singles. Doesn't sound great. But, you know, when you look at how that bench is right now with, you know, Austin rivers can afraid they gang house joke grenal free agency or you're going to be restricted about doing that. So it's going to have to create creativity of Daryl more, I hear, so I, you know, for team that's one team and six years before I hit the rebuilt. Retool. And it's hard to do you know, especially when these contracts are guaranteed ESPN NBA front office inside of Bobby March. Joining us right here. I'll GTL on ESPN radio, Jason cough, and Rachel, Lindsay Bobby messiah Jerry's seemingly playing with house money and I thought he was playing with house money as the season started you go out, and you take a big swing bring in a phenomenal talent. And co why Leonard. And if you take team to the finals, or, or go deep into the playoffs Toronto should say, thank you, if it all falls down, and you say you know what? I took a swing who's who's got a better hand right now. The messiah jillions front officers insiders as they go. Not just collide, but they have, you know, with plea undrafted, norm Powell second round trade a couple of years ago when you try to parents tons Ross for him Marcus own what deadline here basically reconstructed that can call hours basically only player that he's heard he's reconstructed this roster. I just finished writing up for if they win or when it lose, and this team could be back again, you know, depending on what happens with letter basically everyone, except for the contract. So. The qui- trade landscape of not only the league, but certainly the franchise. I mean his meant mental toughness has installed. But let me get your take on what's happening right now in the NBA on our TV screens because Jason I are having a bit of an argument here. I need to knock him off his high horse hair ago. This is a tainting the jury at all. This is what I do. Most of us did not predict at the raptors would be up three one in the series. And I don't even think Jason predicted that but he did say that he predicted that the rafters would win this series and six what is your take on? What's going on right now? Is it just that the raptors are playing really good basketball? Or is it that the warriors are very vulnerable right now? I way has been exposed big time here. I think when yes, we saw came shoe that third quarter. I where they had that big run here. But I think when you lose a player like Kevin Durant, and certainly big long. And then you clay in game three and then you're relying on clean cook and Yoenis go and Jordan bell and players like that who are who probably would not have a role on this team right now. No. And I think that's kind of where where, where the differences here quiet. Certainly, certainly the difference making but the role players in Toronto have played a lot better here. So I think in, hey, I picked stay I think I get Golden State five. You know, I mean so I thought this was going to be I you know, maybe the that, that that Portland series fold a little bit here. But I think what it showed you that you cannot play catch up against his Toronto. You cannot get down double digits and they got off to start last night. But the play catch up every game here and I. Plus plus thirty one in four games. That's remarkable against a team. That's one back championships. Yeah. It's been a crazy and it's been a dominant Toronto rafters series as well. Like this been like two quarters two and a half quarters. Maybe that I've seen Bobby where I'm like, that's the Golden State Warriors that I that I'm used to seeing obviously without Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant. Tomorrow's cousins shell of himself. But hey they beat them game one with a healthy, plate Klay Thompson. What asked you as a as a former NBA front office guide, ESPN front office insider when you have three guys who are making financial decisions huge decisions this off season. And you're talking about injuries and going into a season where you may have to carry a new franchise and not want to rehab an injury as opposed to get ready to do that. How much of that comes into play with decisions of Kevin Durant, and even Klay Thompson, of course, DeMarcus cousins, but Kevin Durant Klay Thompson, very interesting to me, because we like to hold you know, teams and players into this romanticize thought of doing it all for this game and doing it all for this series and I believe that's the case, but your future is also very important, especially big payday is on the men and they're gonna get max contracts. But how much of that you think goes into the decision making of whether to push guy, or whether to keep a guy out from the guy standpoint from the agent standpoint more so than the teams I think a little bit different. I think it's different for, you know, certainly talked about college football players going games that have sit out because of financial decisions for the they don't wanna get hurt for the NFL trap, and they have made any money here. I mean Durant's made made one hundred ninety million dollars on a court not, including what he's made off court here. So I mean when he got hurt in that game five against Houston, I thought he was going to be out for a while and maybe maybe the war. Made him stay where they didn't just want definitely kind of keeping us updated week to week here, and maybe keys this a little bit thinking that he was ready to return when maybe knowing body, he wasn't. So I give a guy like looney credit. You guys plan what a separate shoulder played last night. And here's a player that's made four or five million dollars in his career. It's gonna be a free agent. Come out there. Yeah. I can credit but I think if, if, if they're healthy, they'll play, I know that agency of, of quiet and. Klay, and Kevin is looming. But I'm not sure that, you know, like a player like Haiti kinda holding out. Visit Cunard twenty one million dollar contract waiting on, you know, waiting comes first. He is our ESPN NBA front office insider. And he would never put his hands on a player while..

"Jay, let's get the talking about day five the overall. It's overall day, five second day of the second round at Roland Garros since this will get you into this. Let me give you some interesting tidbits about this tournament topsy Novak Djokovic with a second round matchup today guest on relaxing of Finland. That'll be five AM eastern Jugovic has lost a second round match at the French since he debuted back in two thousand and five. And when he lost to gamble Korea, the women's topsy also in action, she's got a five AM eastern match up a very interesting one against Victoria, as Aranka, the two-time, Ozzy chimps seven, and three of the season on clay trying to snap Asakusa fifteen game win streak in grand slam events. That'll do it. I'll be back. Jay. For center, all night, ESPN radio warriors raptors getting the NBA finals underway on Thursday. Of course, it's here on ESPN radio, presented by indeed our coverage at eight o'clock eastern. Kevin Durant not available for the warriors in game one he's been out since the series with the rockets, Golden State, obviously able to get past Houston, and then the blazers without K D now are the rockets ready to blow it all up. He SPN's Adrian Watson. Hausky says Houston may be aggressive, but not with everyone. I think even Houston realizes that they're very few scenarios that makes sense with James harden trade to get back value for him. They want to continue to build around him, but everyone is available, and they're willing to listen on everyone. Chris Paul is different. Thirty four years old, as you mentioned, three years. One hundred twenty plus million left on his contract. Missed. Sixty nine games over the last couple of years, the injuries the age it makes it difficult to move that contract. Click appellate could be the one to get money off. Create some have flexibility he's probably the most likely player to have a significant marketplace that would break up their current big three now saga about their coaching situation. What can you tell us about the negotiations? With Mike dantonio coming to an impasse one year left on his deal. Kevin, I'm told that the rockets were interested in more of a performance based contract extension, and I think the response, they got from Mike Deane Tony camp. What's, hey, that's fine. As long as it's retroactive you look at, you know, sixty eight wins last year two years ago, Western Conference finals four playoff series victories and his tenure there he wants to return there. He told me last week, he hoped he thought he could coach another three years past the seventieth birthday. But right now, those talks are stalled what was there's another story reporting on that is new pelicans veep. David Griffin meeting with Anthony Davis this morning in Los Angeles. Now Davis has said he wants to be traded, but he won't be a free agent until the summer of twenty twenty. What details have you gathered about this specific meetings, Kevin David Griffin started to make his case Anthony Davis about his plan his vision in New Orleans to reshape that franchise and I'm told that there will be conversations again. But those conversations will be focused with his agents Rich Paul than Anthony. At least here in the offseason, Rich Paul was also at that meeting. This forty Davis can become a free agent. Next summer. He's eligible to sign a five year two hundred thirty five million dollars supermax contract, July first, but as for the rockets, maybe making players available and trade talks earlier on ESPN radio are Jason gov. I think you have to do it. And I don't even know if it's a full blow of that you need now just like the Kyle Lowry Damara Roseanne situation that we talked about yesterday. I'm messiah Jew. I was like, hey guys can have Carl our if you want. I know we'd like drew module Rosa, I think if you're Daryl more, you're calling about Chris Paul all the stuff that came out after the, the, the, the final game of the Houston Rockets season about Chris Paul wanting the ball to be moved a little bit more. And I think that really lends to Chris Paul wanting to move the ball, a little bit more instead of having the ball move around him a little bit more. I think Chris Paul is a guy who you can't really count. Will he have a terrific into the postseason? But at this age at thirty eight thirty eight million dollars against the salary cap. What, what kind of value, are you getting out of Chris Paul going forward? So hopefully you can get a team that can trying to sell some tickets. Maybe and, and get yourself a decent you know, not, not a draft pick, but a decent rotational player, former couple rotational players, but in the end, this is James Harden's team. And if you're gonna have to blow it up, there's still going to be about James harden, driving, and kicking off at threes or living at the free throw line. So you're not gonna. You're not gonna change his strategy, but you definitely have to change the pieces after you've blown to opportunities in which you should have one Dan, many of Houston's players under contract. Chris Paul Clint Capella could be moved in the right deal. According to our wounds the.

"Speaking of Joe thighs, man, he was on the doc Walker show on the team nine eighty and had this to say about the. A young man. I don't high of state. You can't basically say the leak done messed up. That's not we gotta work on his English just a little bit. Maybe that's a course at Ohio State. They haven't really quite perfected yet. I mean dog what is that? How does that happen? Joey tea is a guy that is beloved by certain generation of this team. You cannot this was supposed to be a peaceful transfer of power as we say in Washington DC. This was going to be great. So he could have laid it out and said here you go. Welcome to DC, you know, Haskins went to with high school right outside the city. He's affectively local on some level. Is there a reduction in free meals apparently for Joey t that that I gotta wear of. I'm not getting into that. I'm not even getting into that. That is ridiculous. My point is is that you cannot have this. This has been a high level Bosch by everybody involved in. That is what this franchise is about don't ever expect me to think that they're going to do anything less than the worst possible option because low that's who they are where to crush yoursel Washington. Everyone was feeling good about the fifteenth pick and all of a sudden now it's all come crumbling down. You got you got to explain yourself. I don't agree. I don't agree at all. I think that numbers are numbers. And yes, I think certain guys should be celebrated. That's on Dan Snyder and the rest of the front office. But in the end you can make a number famous again. "I did not say that he is in the community. I'm talking there've been there've been think PC you're gonna give them like a Mike trout. Yeah. But my required. Mike has more of a cuddly vibe, right? Mike, Mike is like, oh, I just wanna play like Sydney has actually turned on people for for asking him to be a little bit more personable. I mean, even the stuff that happened with the team candidate captaincy in years past like, I'm not saying he's a bag object saying in terms of what the sport asks of. It's great players in marketing. I think it's a microcosm of why the sport hasn't transcended that big three five Yeah. or. I don't know. I don't know if you can pin that on a player like him. And I think it's it's it's tough to compare across sports because you do look at someone like Hawaiian he certainly feels like he's pushing back. He's the greatest player in the NBA ever. I agree with you. It's a different expectation for him. I think I think you think Mike trout is a little more cuddly. It's rare that you get that side of him though. And are certainly times when you get that from Crosby and his ability in the public to be smooth, and sweet and charming, especially when it comes to charity charitable efforts and community stuff is clear toes all day, so say, okay. Well, I mean. Yeah. I I say down to the point of your diet the point I just ran out of hockey Phillips, man. All right. How about that? You want me to pull the Ripcord here. It is. Yeah. "Twitter feed at Spain. If it's at sarahspain at Jason one Gough, let us know what you think about Russell's video in which quarterback, you would least or most like to see make one of those not for the reason that you want them signed, but the video itself Louis Riddick ESPN NFL front office inside can absolutely do this voice. And I think he just doesn't naturally he was on get up this morning and talked about the Seahawks deal. Think about how you want to win football games. You don't mess around with a guy. Like Russell Wilson who even Becton thirteen and fourteen was a big part of your success. So if you wanna go ahead and take the airgun route as I like to call it and say, hey, look, you know, what we can always dress another quarterback and then execute philosophy. You know, we'll have a young quarterback on a rookie contract. And then pay everybody else, and we'll be great because that's the model that works right now. Go ahead. But I think they realized that look we don't wanna mess around with. What is obviously the most important is this makes you sports. We heard maybe a rumor that the giants might be look into bring in Russell, and he might wanna play their Seahawks put that to bed real quick. And as far as any other team as much as C essentially gave them a deadline and threatened to leave Adam Schefter said basically, no one else was in a position to get him. Not that there's no other team that could use him. He's great. But to have to give up what you'd need to for a trade. And then pay him the way that the Seahawks just did wasn't realistic. He's one of the very few guys in the NFL. That's the cure all like, he can cure so many ails on your football team. I've said statistically since he came in the NFL. They have the worst performing offensive line in the NFL yet. They've won ten games every year he's been there. But one, and that's when they went nine games. So he's got more completions two guys that have been undrafted. Then drafted he's done more with less than any quarterback in the NFL since he's come to league. Now, that's Danner Lobski. He was on this morning with Golic and wingo and said the things about Ross that make him great are also the things that can make him hard to protect. So some of the numbers that you see number of sacks. He's taken etc. Are exacerbated at times by his mobility in the fact that it's hard to know when he's gotten rid of the ball, and when he's freelancing back there. But Paul hembo, tweeted out since twenty twelve in his career Russell Wilson pressured the highest in the NFL hit on pass plays the most in the NFL worst line pass protection rate. And yet he's still started. All. One hundred twenty five games including the playoffs and leads all NFC quarterbacks with Eighty-three wins. This is a guy who gets it done and. He is Seattle football. He's made a worldwide brand Steve large Cortez. Kennedy guys like that legends before him Seattle is an actual NFL brand because of Russell Wilson. And of course, the legion of boom, you gotta sign your quarterback when we get into this later gospel talk about the way that this might affect other quarterback deals, and maybe we'll play that sound coming up Red Sox Yankees square off for the first time this season. And for the Anke is the injuries continue to pile up. We'll get into it next benefits. Spain and Fitz Spain fence sarahspain Jason gov. "It took so long to clean up the blood, and then it really delayed the game mispaid and bit sarahspain Jason gov. This is how it's going to be as you know, what I started my day by stepping in dog poop, no socks. No shoes. That was that out. Oh, yeah. There had. Yeah. Who who who do your feet both feet? Both feet got some of it before I looked down and thought, oh, how did that get in my laundry room? Oh, maybe it's the one hundred sixty five pound mastiff that were dog sitting that has broken draft that we got an Africa chewed on the side of a table. Eating a leather pillow that cost way more than it should have spent on. And puked on both of the new rugs that we just got cleaned. And then today tracked a bunch of poop into the laundry room that I stepped in barefooted so pretty Pretty much. much. Yeah. So the dog is pretty much me if I spent a drunk and weekend over your dog is drunk go home because what I'm saying and massive take. Not not small no movements. Either. Thankfully, it was just the remnants that he had stepped in and tracked into the house and not a full one. "Will not take anything as if that would somehow change the 'cause he's been fighting for end donating much of his personal money for a was ridiculous to me because this grievance. This particular case was about money, right? It was about you. It prevented me from doing my job. This is in tireless separate from trying to work on communication between communities and police to avoid the unnecessary deaths and maimings of people of color to take any money of any amount. Does not take away from the cause. And if the NFL was paying for silence and wanted to prevent anything from going public in terms of owners or anybody else saying or doing things that are unsavory, and if captured it can read wanted to avoid a loss and take at least some money to pay bills to also avoid also avoid publicly. Being seen as a loser. Right. Because we wanted them to go broke during the struggle. Like, you better find it the whole way, and you you better not have a dollar to your name where even his giving millions a job right now and every day during the people want there to be martyrs if they're gonna fight for 'cause they need to be martyrs who are who are unemployed and poor. "That's great for him. I don't begrudge Antonio Brown forgetting what he was looking for. But I understand why some people don't like this move. I understand why doesn't always sit. Well, when levian bell signs a contract decides he's worth more doesn't get the number. He wants even though he was offered a massive number and just doesn't play doesn't play for a team and. Teammates, and coaches that he was contractually obligated to it. I just I get it. There's a middle ground to me where there's empowerment and players working for what they're owed. That isn't also you know, there's somewhere in the middle here. But when we talk about doing everything he can't party to get off of a team. Like think about the everything that they can that that gets done that we don't think of as maniacal or as as science like tell everybody that Ben Rothlisberger or there. Fully his fifty two kids. And he's the guy they should all be watching even before that though, sir. How about in the mix where you're looking around and you're Tonio Brown, and you're like wait a minute to switch Shuster is a good player. But he's only got two less targets than I do this far in the season. And he's being voted team MVP. And and all of a sudden, my guaranteed money is up. So now, I'm going to a precarious position without a safety net of financial security going forward. Like all these things that happen. They don't happen by chance. I I think that a lot of NFL teams go about their business in a way that we're so used to digest lands. That's it. We're like, oh, yeah. That's that's just business. Whereas when a player takes it into a just business kind of more like, oh, whoa. Whoa. You contractually? "Conceive an average of six hundred sixty eight bucks something worth noting is that this team. The only time they've lost in the finals was the year that it happened in part due to dream on losing his cool and the suspension and that on how that affected this team. They have a second guy in boogie cousins who brings that kind of potential for disaster and not only that but he's a liability defensively. This team has never really had to take guys off the floor for matchups in terms of. Certainly had more effective rosters. But they haven't really had like, maybe when bogut got hurt and Festus Zulia was out there you had an immobile big out there. And that was an issue for them. But you know, you start to pick apart at some of the ways that you can see another team take advantage of them. And if they aren't joyful, and they aren't getting along and they aren't hitting their shots. And all those other things go wrong. You can actually see how a successful other team could beat them. I don't think it's going to happen. But it's not it's not a total impossibility is the Floyd Mayweather vibe, right? Where you're just tuning in. If you are turning in to see him be. So now what we do is each season since we recognized as dynasty is what it is. Okay. How will they get beat? What's going to happen is going to be off? The court stuff stumbling onto the in game chemistry or lack thereof. Is it going to be Kevin Durant and his envy for Steph Curry's finals MVP's and how he's going to be you know, the the price. Of the bay. No matter what. Kevin Durant does is it going to be trained on green finally saying too much not not being tolerated because of his slip in production is going to be boogie cousins and him thrown into the mix. So all we're doing now is trying to figure out how it's going to end because we like right prognosticate, right? Because we already know how it could how they could win. Again. There's already a penny more than seven game series. This we've seen from I think they'll work a little bit harder. But the only thing I do think is to figure out how they repair the tension that will be caused by what they're doing to each other in the midst of these slips who's. When you when you're in a slump, you know, who's going to be on any given night, who's working hard who cares? And if they don't line up at the same time how that affects the team see that's the thing. That's what happens when you got four the best players in the right on the same team. "I bowl to ten last week. If you don't share you did. Bumpers. The clippers the best team in LA Patrick Beverley thinks so any asked to guard LeBron to prove it talking about it next in Spain and Fitz Spain and Fitz then a bit of a rough stretch for the Lakers by stretch. I mean entire season wasn't so bad through December. But this loss to the clippers probably the final nail in the coffin when it comes to play off chances. They are less than zero right now the chances that the pelicans advanced to the playoffs are higher, according to ESPN's basketball power index and this this lost to the clippers. Just does a min one hundred thirteen to one zero five not only the loss. But also some pretty chesty post game action from Patrick Beverley Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio Sarah Spain, Jason gov hosting. Here's Patrick Beverley after the game with Fox Sports west my job, come in and do the little things, and I'm and I'm happy with my role. I'll take my. Very seriously. On's down. I don't get a lot of players. I don't I don't care. I'm here to win ballgames. And that's what I do. Requested to LeBron James had five steals in the first half said they're the best team in LA and their record proves it because they're headed to the playoffs. And the Lakers are almost certainly out you like the swag love. I love first of all the west side, dude, you know, Marshall high school Patrick Beverley, Chicago lands very old. But he's always been that dog. And there are certain guys who if you don't take your cool off, you go look stupid and the Lakers are the team that has progressively throughout the season refused to take their cool off. And namely, LeBron James whether it be cow coups who I think plays hard. But you know, sometimes there's a little bit deferential via liking Brandon Ingram who often has his cool on even though. He's a terrific score. That's the wrong team to go up against the scrappy bunch of dudes who that's they tried to strip it down in LA, and they've still one because clever with the clippers because they got a bunch of role players who know their role, and they got. To max cap spaces not. So you're going to drop two players in the middle of a winning type of culture and attitude invive, they are the end of the Los Angeles Lakers. They're getting their own building. They've got a billionaire owner like they're doing everything the right way. And they gotta respect the coach Doc Rivers who who's firmly entrench. So the clippers situation in vibe is a lot different than that of the Los Angeles Lakers on I think last night was just a microcosm of how that feels throughout the season. Yeah. And I think you're right. And I've been I've been saying this ever since this season early on that the clippers to me are a great destination. When we hear people like Durant and Kurai seemed to intimate that they're not interested in playing with the or going to the Lakers, you have to look over at the clippers and ask if they've put together enough of aid to nations squad try hearts and a couple of those max spots to be able to really appeal Beverly of interest. You mentioned his background from Chicago, of course. But also he was traded to Miami from. The Lakers in two thousand nine and the heat cut him a few days before the start of LeBron's first regular season with the team. And after the game he said I played with Miami with LeBron. They cut me. I got drafted by the Lakers. They traded me to Miami Bron got there. They cut me. I remember it was like it was yesterday. So yeah, it's a chip on my shoulder. So there might be something to that. We all know LeBron is essentially a GM wherever he goes. So if he felt like Bron was a guy who said, I don't need him. He's been carrying that with them. Walk would talk. That's one of those guys who I I'm appreciative of dudes like that and league because they bring the best out of dudes. And if not you're going feel it for an entire forty eight minutes or over how long he's on the court. And I'm not mad that the guys have that extra that extra hump to the game..

"Embarks on ESPN radio. ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty Sarah Spain Jason gov filling in for fits tonight. I have mostly recovered from my annual bender at cubs spring training where I watched some baseball and drink lots of beer and Gough just said he's jealous who's on a log on the old Instagram, and he wished could have experienced some of the joy being had. There's very few people in my life that may be want to be them. But every time I check you out on Instagram and your party in which people it makes me feel like I'm not living my best life as little involved say. So I appreciate you for the last two or three days, I live vicariously through your Instagram feed and stories, by the way, we're all magical, the party bus, some of the costuming some things that were being screamed in the background by horse Sarah Spain, it was it was it was a rowdy time to say, the least and I wish Richie because if you are in NFL. Oh player. We'd have some investigating to do. That's true. I also appreciate that you like to live vicariously through me, while others lebatardshow were mocking my insta- story. They don't understand if you if you put enough beer and sunshine in baseball in one person, they're going to document it because they're going to be so happy all day. And that's happened. The head is because they ain't us. That's that's so true. That is so true it Sarah Spain and Jason gov. We have lots to get to today because first of all I they didn't talk all day yesterday. So I said that all up, but also because Kyrie Irving continues to provide me with just an infuriating level of confusing infuriating. I find into being theory aiding and angry. I here's why it started out with the infuriating, flat earth comments that lead to actual teachers saying that their students refused to learn about Globes and our round world because Cairo Irving said it was flat. So I was mad at him for dumbing down in already dumbed down youth. But now at into it his frustration with the media over his own commentary. If you are going to unnecessarily in prematurely declare that you're sticking with the team and then months later, go back on that. And say, you don't know anybody bleep people are going to probably be a little bit critical. If your answers to pretty normal regular questions, are what is reality is the internet life. People are probably going to be like, oh, give it a rest if you walk into an NBA game with the camera in your face and say, I'm not going to miss this bleep when I'm out of the league as if you didn't know that they would be cameras in a professionally played basketball game. That's on TV people are probably going to get sick of it. And I it honestly feel. Gough like how could he be this bad at this this many years in well, he's? I don't want to term it the way this in my head. But Kyrie's come off as a little flaky over the years and we've seen him in winning time moments. Right. We haven't seen him deal with a whole lot of adversity because when he was adversity. Nobody cared about the Cavs. And in that time, they won what seventy some odd games in those three years before the Brian James came back to save the franchise. So this is the first time we're really seeing kyri have to take the arrows that the best player on the team has to take any sat and watched this team bro without him last year as well. So he's I think he's going through a little bit of insecurity right now. But at the same time, there's a way to deflect all of this stuff. There's a way to make sure that you don't get yourself caught in these trick bags, and I think he's stepping on every landmine possible on the way to try to do that one hundred percent. And that's part of it. Jalen rose on get up was actually talking about. How listen it. It is hard. And this is a different time than any player that came before. Right. "Bryce Harper in the topic of all the money that baseball players have been getting over the last couple of weeks column Mary's sitting there in Indianapolis in under armor sweats talking to the assembled media about his height and about being an NFL quarterback did calamari make the right decision Taylor. Oh boy. That's a good one. I thought he didn't he have a comment if I'm not mistaken that more. I'm not sure column early understood Murray. Understood the question, I think he was asked that more quarterbacks make more annually than they do the three hundred billion. The question was posed. What does he think of the three hundred thirty million contract that Bryce Harper got? And he said that quarterbacks make more money than that. Which everyone in the room had to say, no, they don't he was talking about the Bryce Harper. I believe is going to have a twenty seven million dollar a year av. He was thinking of the highest payed quarterbacks and thinking to himself then quarterbacks make a lot more money than that not understanding that Bryce Harper's money is fully guaranteed every time of that. So yeah in so that right there kind of that to me told me that Cuyler didn't fully understand the situation. Listen, if he doesn't understand the situation, and he's already at the NFL combine is a little bit late. Not understand the baseball players. Mistaken. I think Scott Boris was his agent, correct? Van looks at his phone. And he's like, hey, you didn't tell me that this was guaranteed smiley face emoji. Yeah. I'm sure I'm pretty sure Scott Boras fully explained it to his client and Cuyler Murray about it. The the problem with this conversation is quick money or long term short term versus law part. Right. So short term. He's going to make way more money in football. Longterm if you are an all star if you are that Bryce Harper type of player Manny Machado, well, then Keiler made the wrong decision. But only Cuyler knows that decision in his heart the way, the Russell Wilson's knew that through Henson window up and down the line. Chris Mike how many quarterbacks baseball players in this tussle of whether or not they were good enough. Chad Hutchinson is another one I think. Let me ask you this. Then I think rather would you rather make a ton of money in something that you don't love. Yes. Rather make less money in something that you do love. I'm not totally. I guess my long winded answer was this. I don't think he's gonna be guaranteed to be the Bryce Harper. Manny machado. I do think he's guaranteed to make the fifty to one hundred million as a quarterback in the NFL to answer. Your question golf. You wanna do what your heart desires? I don't care what any of us try to describe as you. Jio for nineteen years. And you're very good at it. But my point is you're very good at it. If you were very good architect. Right. But you're good architect, and you were making twenty percent more. But you hated going to work every day. No matter when you're thirty forty fifty sixty you're going to regret that decision. Cuyler Murray wants to play football. But I think when it's all said and done I don't think he was kind of baseball talent that would have made three hundred million. Made the right decision. You would have probably taken home forty thirty five million somewhere around that range for a decent major league career and not have the injuries. Rachel. How do you feel about the the love versus the financial security doing something that you don't love? I think it's refreshing because you hear often how athletes just chase the money. And that's all that thereafter. And it really seems like Hyler Murray wants to play football not scenes that it is. I mean, he made the decision to play football over baseball. He would have been lucrative in both. But I think the fact that it's I I can't remember where he quoted I read something where he was talking about. It would be a dream to be taken not first round pick. And it's looking at that it's paying off because everybody's now saying after the combine because he has that extra inch that waiting for him. He's oh, he's five ten and he's pals. So you know, that automatically means first round traffic, but the fact that he's possibly going to be the first round draft pick booting out a quarterback who was drafted for the cardinals. Last year in as their first pick a quarterback who also said that he didn't understand why he went number nine and couldn't understand why he wasn't the first quarterback picked the fact that he's possibly going to replace him. Definitely seems like it's paying off. Because not only is he going to be the first round pick potentially. He's doing what he loves. He's accomplishing a dream at the highest. Can I throw wrinkle to this conversation Scott for let's debate if the New York Yankees LA dodgers, Boston Red Sox are his baseball team instead of the Oakland A's. Is it a different discussion? It doesn't feel like it. It doesn't. I don't either. That's why I brought it up because I think that gives you that in itself tells you that he's making the decision based on his love for football wanting to play football as opposed to saying. Well, if you know if the pinstripes in Yankee Stadium were calling me and saying here's the money and all that I think he's doing this because he wants to be a quarterback and he wants to play right now and be a star. Here's what column or you had to say at the NFL Scott and gone by about being not only a first round pick. But the first pick overall, obviously, I mean, I'm a competitor. I love the game to be the number one pick with the kid's dream come true. So. My name is called number one. That would be ready to go for, sir. That's how you toss to sound. Just as sound ready and travel ended up on the screen from guy. Travis actually writes up on the board you can't quantify growing up in Texas and being the best high school football player. And what this sport means. I mean, he he arguably was the best Texas handball player of all time. I mean, that's that's a state. Yeah. Yes. Texas State high school football. You look at his numbers. I mean, he was he broke records. So it's something that he's wanted to do for the entirety of his life. We grew up of head to wait cough, like he's hungry chomping at the bit. Last year was his first full season. I I think that's understated. Don't you think the baseball comes easier for him in football is what's not only just a love. But also more challenging so I think it's a bigger feet for him to be able to be the number one pick, and all and everything he's done to get where he is flipped the script. What if baseball doesn't come easier to them? What a football comes easier to him. And he just great at it. Everything I said. Character. A lot of people actually thought that the Oakland Athletics reached in drafting him with just secure him as a as a talent and also selling him as a face of the franchise going forward. He was the fifth rated prospect and a lot of scouting services on their on their farm system. So it wasn't like he's a can't miss price. Harper. Manny machado. We'll continue to talk about this though. Eighty eight say ESPN editing seven to nine three seven seven six is the phone number. Rachel Lindsay Jason gov..

But now you've got problems with levian belt. You got problems at the Antonio Brown. You've had problems with Ben Rothlisberger throughout his career. Are those Steeler problems? Are those player problems though, I have one in the same? That's what you're trying to convince and you've got to convince anyone buying that. They're Steelers problems, which is crazy. I the NFL got to sell yourself out to get something back. We'll see this is the thing with the NFL these guys when they get traded. You know, this isn't like basketball baseball where there are a little bit more individualistic. Of course, a lot more individualistic sports. You know, when we see you guys go from one system to other another there. There's no there's no guarantee that things work, and how how many times we see Dan Snyder just pluck free agent named after free agent name for those early arts, you know, four zero five were an atom March. Different schemes, different atmospheres, different vibes different environments, different things different verbiage with play calling. You you just never know. And a guy could be scheme specific or scheme. Perfect and not perform the way you thought he should. And then you kind of start the clock on the problems, even before there are any real problems. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's gonna be fascinating to see what they actually get form. And what this means for the Steelers going forward because the fact that they never capitalized with a title with triple B's, right? The killer bees. Jerry West is the biggest name to come up there. Larry Bird has had a good deal of success. "And the show that just launched on ESPN, plus the boardroom coming up more on K D And his love hate relationship with the media. The one question I'd like to ask him nex pain and Fitz on ESPN radio. Spain and Fitz one question for Kevin Durant. And it's. It relates to the timing of this boardroom new ESPN plus show and this profile by Ramona Shelburne, I'm just sort of curious if you ask the guy who was ranting about the media the other night. Why he was willing to partner with media that he is so aggravated by when it benefits him. But it's so quick to call them out when it doesn't does he see any hypocrisy in that. I would just be interested in his response flat out to how he balances not liking it when they don't say exactly what he wants. But wanting to use it to say the things he does its benefits on ESPN radio the espionage and Sirius XM channel eighty Sarah Spain and Jason gov. I mean, we're all hypocrites and plenty of ways, I'm sure there's moments where we get things, and they serve us and there's moments when they don't, but this timing happened circumstantially and results in this, very obvious. Issue of saying you don't want them to write about you. And give you attention about something that you don't want to talk about right now. But you do want the attention of your own ESPN plus show in addition to basketball in addition to your investments, and I think that's where we tend to have issue without leads. "The only thing that you would hope is that he he has changed his life, privately he has been scorn publicly. So there's there's a certain level of contrition that you have to go undergo in the public eye. But as as long as you're going behind the scenes as well and getting help for whatever issue that you may have a lot of people may not like that. And I'm not forcing anybody to you know, forgive him. We'll bring him back. I've seen I've seen what domestic abuse can do to families, you know. And I've seen you know, I've I've had a cousin who is to go visit out in jersey who had a boyfriend that beat her to death. So like these things they ring true in an in very specific instances for each person who has asked. Okay, what do you feel about this or how do you feel about this? Every answer is going to be different. And I don't know that anyone is wrong in the end. He is employed. You will be employed by the Cleveland Browns. He will be an NFL player again. And I don't think there was any any two ways about that. We all knew that he would be going to happen Sarah Spain, and Jason golf it's Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio. We had a feeling a team would move quickly to take him on. You mentioned position that fans are being put in. I think people who are who understand the issues relating to assault the differences between assault and domestic bouncers will get into later. But this this kind of incident in general understand that it's not simply about public contrition wherein. We do not understand the work. That's being done behind the scenes, and it's not just about doing the work for many fans, it is about transparency because if you speak to experts in understanding how you stop recidivism. It's not just saying that you've changed. It's an accountability that you acknowledged that you had a role in it that you were the cause of it. It's a desire to change. And then it's actively taking steps. To change the root cause of it. So simply saying, I know better now, just everyone should no matter. What happens? So what was the reason? Why is this your reaction? And as I said, we'll get to why this is different than probably the root causes of other incidents. We've talked about Ray rice or Jovan Belcher Reuben foster on this is a very different case. We'll get into that. But quickly John Dorsey, the Browns GM just spoke, and he said this about hunts remorse. I'm sure one of the plants at we'll have moving forward here. I can't I know that he is actually sought professional counseling here the weekend a weekend basis part of the plans that will be placed here is being able to outreach to the community on a weekly basis for. Yeah. And I think community outreach and public acknowledgement of the change that he feels he is undergoing is the key and many people out. There are going to say he doesn't oh you that. I'm not saying he is I'm saying if you expect. I hope that fans will root for someone in your uniform. It's not enough to simply say, they're sorry. And they're different. You have to show it. John Paxson he will be on with carbon in your at one thirty today. Don't miss it. The reason why you have to say all this is because the last guy you hire didn't implement those principles that you're not taking over a mess for someone. The reason why you have to do the the whole drill. Sergeant thing. The reason why you have a linebackers coach as your head basketball coach for an MBA franchise is because you had a guy in there that everyone kind of you know. Emasculated for for lack of a better. Terms levin. Talked over this man and talked around this man you had to fire him. So you can bring in the guy who lives in a van down by the river. And now him screaming at people are still getting you blown out. You're not developing your top three players. You're trying to find out. If your starting point guard who you traded Jimmy Butler four in a package is more than a rotational guard stopped talking about these things like someone else's message. You're cleaning up your cleaning up the mess that you made if my kid makes a mess over and over again, it looks to me like what are you going to clean this up? No somebody's going to be in trouble. And fine, gentlemen. We now see he can't do this to like the Cleveland Browns on national radio. Don't do that. Chris. Here's the thing. There's no there's no accountability. That's the problem in. It's no matter what they say, whatever Tampax and says accompanying your core later today, you know, he's gonna be defensive, you know, he's going to go after Carmen in your co if they don't give him specifics on said rebuilds, or how many times have done this with coaches or any of that stuff because it's all semantics to them. And all they wanna do is argue about it instead of trying to figure out results of trying to get a championship team in the city. Do they not want to coach that smarter than them? Is that the problem? Well, the problem with the Tom thing that a lot of people were talking about behind the scenes was they wanted some of the credit that Tom was getting right? So what is it you want to be in the background or you want the credit, right? And if you want specifics how about this. How about turning Doug McDermott into absolutely nothing in having a trade for after you traded up for him. How about drafting Marcus Teague instead of Draymond green? Which is what Tom wanted about the Vinny Del Negro embarrassment that happened in the city how about everything after Derrick rose how about you allowing pow. Casale and Jimmy Butler to pretty much cut the legs from underneath Thompson. While he was still here in a road trip to Philadelphia when calls were made to those guys asking about them practicing too hard all those things, and then how about the reboot. Now, will you fire a guy and the net? Reading for the team that you thought was going to be better on Jim Boylan isn't any better got specifics for days for you fan? You've got enough. There's enough of a sample size. Jimmy Butler in this rebuild you trade Jimmy Butler because you want cap space. But then you spend your cash based on auto porter and Zach LeVine. How's that a positive, right? Like like, if you wanna talk about net, positives way, there's rebuild is gone. I I know people are going to point to Jimmy Butler is a bad, dude. "And you're like when is this going to end? The problem that I have with that is think about how how bad that is a just a tough premise when you think about no other sport asks its most important player to play until you're tired. Right. So you start out with that. I mean NBA does. But you saw out is what I'm saying. Right. Every other sport allows you to leave and come back. Right. Right. So so with what has happened in the last four or five postseasons where we were seeing the Andrew Miller's of the world be as important as anybody on the team. I don't think we're very far from hey, nine relievers. Go right there and get you your best inning in. And we'll figure this thing out. And I'm sure a players union will have issues with that. Because Saudis are probably come down a little rain one hundred sixty five million dollars pitches. But there are things within the game that people have poked holes in whether it be Brian Kenny or Jeff past and with the arm book like these things have been said for years, and I'm looking at it right now. The major baseball rule change time-line look at all these changes from eighteen hundred ninety I'm talking about it. While I'm going up and down, ma'am. And they're watching on channel zero by the way. Eighteen hundred whole bunch of nineteen thirty nineteen forties from nineteen seventy five to two thousand eight. There wasn't a major change. And then two thousand six hundred like a it's been eight years. Because of the accrued amount of time that people could then reflect on and say, we can't change. It. Baseball is sacred. The numbers you have to be able to depend this is a game of ninety respect ninety. And then we know that this player was playing on the same field with the same rules that doesn't work anymore. You mentioned it before by the way. Spain and Fitz Jason filling in for Fitz on ESPN radio. You mentioned it before it is sort of like, I don't know if you've ever this is this deep cut, but I lived in Brentwood, California for years, but the area was in was rent would it was not where OJ lived. It was a bunch of apartment buildings that have the name of it in cursive on the side. Like like, the Carolina are like, the whatever, and they didn't have anything since nineteen seventy because it doesn't snow there and whatever. So the the walls are crack in the water's coming through like everything's a mess and it still gets by. That's baseball right now, they just they haven't fixed the house in such a long time. And finally, it's not working any growing up the block and seeing that everybody's Bill. Mansions. Yeah. The NBA lives in mcmansions down the street and MLB's looking around and saying this condo ain't cutting. It it's not and you don't want to become hockey on grass where people don't know who your stars. And we've been trying to fix it for years and people have scoffed at the idea that you need to change it. I think it is inevitable clear right now that it needs to be changed. Even if we have philosophical oppositions to some of the changes, if they get the job done, and they change it in the meaningful ways. I think it's kind of like when Facebook changes the I hated it. But now, I'm okay, I kind of forgot what it used to look like a pitchers. We're about twenty hours away from the trade deadline more on what's going to happen next coming up Spain and Fitz if they call they call that is not Jason gov. Waiting for his shot to be on this show? Really? Is that what we're gonna take this? All right. I see where we go and Spain it is. Instead Kyle Lowry saying that he has no desire to play for anyone. But the raptors, but hey, if team calls they call, and if the trade gets made he understands, and this is no doubt. Because he saw his buddy demar Rosen. Get sent away last year. He's never had a great relationship with messiah Jiri and he's going to play for the raptors as hard as you can as well as he can if he can stick around he'd love that. And he understands the business better than anybody. After what happened last year Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio sarahspain, Jason gov..
