"If you believe that we talked about smoking pot and drinking beer as well as her marriage to james brolin and wait till you hear what her son jason. Gould gave her during the pandemic plus his streisand getting ready to direct and star in another movie. Quite possibly a one thing. We won't be seeing anytime soon. A barbra streisand pimp. But before we get to this very intimate conversation let's take a look at this week's just for variety column. If you haven't seen pray away yet please take some time to watch this fascinating documentary about exodus. International disgrace gay conversion therapy organization. That imploded when several of its leaders came out as lgbtq and denounce the group's practices director christine stolen. A kiss tells me that she was inspired to make the film by her late uncle who sent a conversion therapy because he identified as transgender. She said he never came to terms with who he was. So i think it would be a really hard film for him to process. This is a strange reality to live with. Because i made the film out of grief and love for him she added. I would happily trade this film for his life pray away produced by ryan murphy and jason plumb is available on netflix. Welcome back to just variety. Here's oh my god. Jay landers who goes to the board and listens to a lot of things and picks out things that he thinks. I'm going to like most of which i do. And some of the my forgot that i recorded like rainbow connection. How do you forget that you recorded a song with kermit. The frog of all people of all things. I don't always is your person. What does he. What did he tell me that he told me. You know there are a lot of people that you've done duets. With what year was that. I forgot That he said to me but you know you never recorded with kermit the frog glee for my son who was fan of the muppet movie and watch sesame street. And he loves us. Jason remember that you recorded it or no one knowing that any clue that this was in your vaults no he he remembered it. Yeah he did said. I did this for you learning. "I love that voice. It is Rosaline kind Who's joining me now? And yet, you know what if that voice sounds a little because that's kind of sounds like Barbra Streisand. They are sisters. Yes, they are sisters. But she is a glorious star in her own right with an incredible voice. Razi. Welcome back to WGN. So good to talk to you. Thank you, Paul. It's been a long time when you last spoke. It has. And I wish you a very happy new year. Um, all your listeners and everybody out there and W g n town. Listen, Chicago's not not strange territory to you. You performed in Chicago. Oh, yeah, several times several times that within and around Chicago on tour and years. My first places Mr Kelly's years ago living, Mr Colley Dive. It was a classic needs to come back. Yeah, I've been around in the suburbs. Um, yeah, I love you. I love visiting Chicago. So you know you're you're Barbara's younger sister. And so some people would say Well, then they She was probably an influence on you growing up, and I might imagine she was, But is that true? Both you and Barbara were actually the inspiration for you came from your grandfather who was a canter. What I am the inspiration. I don't know about the inspiration but attended jeans with the vocal chords came from our grand father on down to my sister and me and my nephew. Actually, we had some other members that thing my little love Great needs to nephew used to perform. I used to sing with him, but that's not what they're going after. And they're adults ages going after other careers, which is great. They're just great people. Great kids, wonderful kids. And, of course, your nephew. Your nephew, Jason Gould has become become a singer started. All right, Jason. These glorious and he's a person with a great heart, too, if you want If you want to ask Rosalyn kind of question, 312981 72 100. You can text the question or you can call us in and we'll let you talk directly to her. So how have you been getting Because you know you and I When we last talked, it was a while ago. So many plans for recording and you have been recording. But you know this covert thing, man Rosie gets gotten in the way. Everything. You can't I've been home. I don't know. Whatever else is going on. I've been in hearing to the science. Yeah, Me too. I've ever worked in Florida, and after I came back from Florida we were on lockdown. Life in it. I've been home I've been, you know, at my home. I have been doing my last video. I we did see a Skype. My producer and I we did it on over the line to do the video for it Right on. We started. We have another with several finished songs that I still have to do. Videos on. But it's been, you know, it's just been really horrifying and getting over being inside and you know, and of course, politically and everything. The challenges and the climate and I've got the Colbert now with the new strain. If people would stay home, you may not have had a new strain. Yes, well, of course in there saying, you know that being isolated. We don't know when that strain you're talking about which comes from England. And you know the first case they found in in Colorado. There's one in California. At least the Colorado person apparently didn't travel it all. So it's not as though somebody went to England to get it that this thing is just finding us obviously came here. Yeah, well, that's true. Somebody made their way. You know, you and your sister you and your sister is so well known for for your political views. You're very straightforward about how you view view. The world in your sister, of course, has given concerts for you know, from Bill Clinton and on and Obama and everything else. What do you say to people? So many years been a major? I really got involved, mostly starting in 2015. Cause I realized it was a necessary thing I had to do well and let me ask you and I respect the fact that you put your views out. What do you say to people who have this isn't about you this about any celebrity when they say you know what celebrities should should they should saying they should perform. They should do what they do, but they should stay out of politics. What do you What's your view on that? I would say. What do you do for a living in the butcher shop, and that was put out your views about the politics. Okay, We're all citizens of the United States of America. We all have a right to speak on mine. I only want things to be right for everybody. It killed my heart to see the sickness and the jet that has occurred. He killed my heart to see the economy going broken. The people that need it. Most are not getting the help. I mean, you could do that. I wish I was a multi multi. I wouldn't break my heart. Would you go out? You know, it's unbelievable to me that the people don't have the support of the federal government like they should. You know, there's gonna be more cooperation. I'm so happy for the next administration because they're getting people that know what they're doing. They have background. They have integrity, and they're honest and they have compassion. They would meet the most important thing in the White House, and you know our Legislature. You know, we really have to work on that because there's no such thing as voted..

We're talking about a a sad sad story of a a restaurant, a home home business, a small business at family based business, mom, and pop. Little restaurant called Rosalyn homemade ice cream breakfast, and lunch and Epping New Hampshire closed down on Sunday sign on the door and now reads what happened to live free or die the answer to the question is. Linear died didn't just die with covert. Okay. Live free or die died as soon as the first business owner obeyed the first government regulation and every business owner since then obeying this subsequent government regulation. Unfortunately I think it sadly ally and I think it's always been for your diamond. Yeah I mean it's a good theme. I. Mean It's a do saying I like it. It's just a truth rely. It's a suggestion it's it's an instruction well, I, think what he's saying but when you're saying rely I think when he's saying, it's a lie. He means New Hampshire is associated with this phrase for and it's not true. It's. There's no, there's the okay. The the mentality it doesn't exist. The quote is live free or die death is not the worst of evils. That's right now what does that mean? It was delivered by General John Stark. And he was talking in the context of the revolution actually it was talking. When he was very old. About what he learned during the revolution. So when he says with free or die, he means live free or fighting. That doesn't that doesn't imply that your freedom will be unopposed white the opposite it implies that your freedom will be opposed and that you have to stand up and fight for it and be. Die In that trite. Sure. Those people I think the problem with this is that who? Who is Who is yeah I haven't seen anybody die yet. But. Who is saying that? Right? It's on every license plate it's on it's it's the state motto is it? It's Kinda hard which is Ironic, right? It's very ironic. It's I think that's anyone that thinks about it for a little while wait a minute. How are you living free if you have it on if you have a license plate and you don't even have the freedom to remove it from your license plate, they'll church with a crime I it's. It's I get what you're saying not that live for your diet either true or false but that it projects a certain mentality for certain idea a certain. Potential. Of A site geist that doesn't really exist. Maybe it did at one time. Two hundred years ago I'm relates ever existed however. This a Lotta people died fighting the British shirt but that doesn't necessarily mean that after. Art. Or Die. That's exactly. That's the advice. Ebay took it. Even while the British being thought we weren't free or after there after. Immediately afterward, they formed a new government. Well right and people are fallible. They'RE GONNA THEY'RE GONNA make mistakes maybe they thought they had a better chance with the government they were putting into place in it wasn't a bad idea for the time I mean how many of those folks were actual volunteers or people that are self described anarchists or whatever probably, very many of them, and so I get where you're coming from and it is a big disappointment when I guess what I want to say about this this whole situation business closing down as many businesses half most of the businesses however, they just closed because of the circumstances they were out of business. There wasn't enough business coming in these folks sounded like they could have continued. But they're afraid of losing their restaurant license. So it's like you want live for your dye. Well, sorry you're too late. You already asked for permission. As soon as you ask for permission, you are not living free you are becoming obedient to the state and you allow the state at that point to hold you know your livelihood I think the I think the message is the pointing out the hypocrisy of the state. What message of of shutting down and posting sign Could be and I think that message was probably stronger than anything else. They could have done. You know even probably refusing because it just goes to demonstrate we wouldn't be probably talking about it if it wasn't for that. We would be talking about it if they refused he if he refused. But how many businesses have refused, there's gotta be more that we haven't talked about. The question is how many other businesses have refused when actively threatened because there are some businesses who have just sort of skated by they've been not following the. Mask mandates or whatever arbitrary rules because again, there's all these rules yet closed close off. There's certain percentages can be open and campy open in different counties and and so on and so forth. But how many of these businesses have actually been more than just like intimidated but I find issued against them? Other than this from what I heard, the first one was the one we talked about last night the two thousand dollar fine the Karaoke violations. Oh, I didn't hear about that one. Oh, yeah. We covered this story last night. There was a bar in Hudson new, Hampshire restaurant bar. So this is at least a second one. Now, this is the first one that's actually been issued a fine from what I understand the one last night. The one that we talked about this one has actually been issued they would erect. In this case they called up and threatened them and said, are you doing this? He say, yes, we're doing mask free. They said, well, if you don't stop by Monday then we're gonNA come in there and so that's presumably when the fine would have been issued but that's when he decided to shut down. So the question is how many businesses have been threatened with a fine and have stood up against it what happens if you don't pay the fine? That's another good question do they suspend the license or dance? Or. The..

How Canada is taking over the tech industry

"For a long long time there was just one destination if you were an ambitious tech innovator and eager to change the world America Silicon Valley in California. Was your first choice. Probably but New York silicon alley was right there to Washington State Chicago Massachusetts. All of them home to the industry's biggest companies cutting edge facilities and they still are home to those companies and facilities. That might no longer be enough. Okay I I'm going back to my google. Search who here is new to Canada. The Chauhan's unbelievable people whose here is newer to cannon less than three months. I wouldn't be three months. It was originally a casual prediction. Made around the time of Donald. TRUMP'S I I travel ban in two thousand seventeen so have a travel ban. It's a very powerful ban. We're adding a couple of countries to we have to be safe. Our country has to be saved would usurp American ones as the place of choice for up and coming talent now. Three years later the results are coming in and both Toronto and in Vancouver are rapidly climbing the charts and now depending on what happens down south in November. This shift might turn out to be much more than a temporary Harry. Black Jordan Heath Rawlings. This is the big story Joel. Rose is a correspondent based in Washington. DC WITH NPR. He covers among other things immigration Hazel. Hey Jordan how you doing. I'm doing pretty well. Especially because is beating the US at something right. Now that is sort of my editors headline but yeah Canada's Canada's. Winning candidate is winning. We'll take it where we can find it. Why don't you start before we get into The whole story. Just tell me a little bit About Jason Gould lest who's one of the characters in your piece who is he and why does he sounds like a game show host so Jason Gould List was the emcee of this event that I attended in Toronto a couple of weeks ago. Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome Welcome. Welcome the first tech the decade here. We go hosted by this organization called Tech Toronto and Jason is the CO founder and they do several of these events a month where folks in the tech industry kind of get together. They watch presentations from their successful peers. Up on the podium kind of like little Ted Ted talks or what have you and they schmooze. There's a Lotta schmoozing. There's pizza. There's beer I wanted to be there because this is also an entry point for people who are new in town trying trying to learn their way around the Texan in Toronto. And I wanted to find people you know who had just arrived and sure enough. Dozens of people at this event had just arrived. I'm one of the questions that Jason Asks. Most of these events is who here is new in Canada. We have a show of hands. Unbelievable that I saw there were dozens of hands in the air All over this auditorium and I should say there are like hundreds of people in the auditorium probably like five hundred and not all of them were new in town but a big chunk thank were and if you think about it. They're doing like three or four events like this. Every month and I think you'd get a similar percentage of new Canadians. At every one of these events it just sort of illustration of how many people are coming into this tech scene from around the world All the time. And that's why I wanted to be there just to to talk to some of these people who just moved to Canada you know and and get some of their stories. Some of them had moved directly to Canada others had come from the US and had left for one reason or another and move north others were coming. I'm from outside of North America And landing for the first time in Canada. Yeah can you put into context a little bit. what is going on with the tech scene in Toronto right now and I guess yes in Vancouver to It's one thing to sort of anecdotally look at these events but What kind of numbers we have by some measures? Toronto's Rose Tech scene is actually growing faster than any other city in North America including San Francisco including Seattle including New York. Like these big. You know cities in the US that have been magnets for tech workers for you know forever and you know by some measure. Toronto is eclipse. Them and Vancouver is not that far behind Vancouver is also correct. Sort of the top five in terms of the fastest growing Texans In North America. So they're clearly doing something to attract all these all these workers. NFL these jobs. And I you know that's what's going on. I think it's worth pointing out. You know in terms of total tech jobs. They probably still have a ways to go to catch up to these big. US cities is that I've just named but they're making up the ground pretty fast when you talk to people in the industry for this piece. How unusual is that to see To Canadian cities jump ahead of some of the US cities that I would certainly Associate with tech industry more than Toronto or Vancouver. I think it's a pretty big change when I first wrote about the Canadian tech industry a couple years ago after president trump took office. People told me that Canada kind of used to be known for brain drain that the country produced loosed really good engineers and software developers and then basically watch them leave. Yeah that's been a long standing issue in Canada so this is a big change in that sense right candidate is now keeping more of those brains in jobs and it's also now importing tech talent from other countries including from the US and also outside. Outside of North America people who previously would have been flocking directly to the bay area in Seattle. And the you know the usual suspects are now taking a harder look at other markets and the Canadian cities seem to be benefiting from that. Can you give me an example of maybe just one of the people you talk to Toronto and kind of what with their stories and how how they ended up in Canada Sure I talked to several people who had Trained or worked in the US and then just has decided for one reason or another. That Canada was where the future was for them. I guess one person I would talk about is. You'll look so when I was on my last year of Mike Beach D. I wanted to go abroad and gain more experience. She is a computational biologist originally from Turkey and had done her advanced events studies in Europe and then in Baltimore Maryland in the US and she told me she did not even really seriously apply for jobs in the US. When I was applying for states I was already informed by several coaches and several friends? That's getting a visa in. US is not easy like she was well educated on it. She knew how difficult it was that you have to find an employer who really wants you. WHO's willing to sponsor you for the visa and then you are really tightly bound to that employer because your visa is bound to that employer if you WANNA change jobs it's a real complicated situation yeah And even just in the first place getting the approval to work for that employer. Who wants you right? You've already got the essentially the job offer but then there's a great deal of like lawyering paperwork that you have to go through to get the approval. There's a visa lottery. You may not even get it. It's extremely complicated. And time time consuming and expensive and she said you know what I don't need it becomes a full time job just to understand and learn the process of the weasel applications. I'm just not gonna FRY that hard to find a job in the US. I'M GONNA look in Canada and she found a company in Toronto and working in computational biology. She went up. She checked out the city she liked it. She got The offer the work permit came through and weeks. You know as soon is. She had all her paperwork in order from Europe everywhere else that she lived and then she started the job Just a couple of weeks ago at this company called Protein cure and Just it would have been if she tried to move to Chicago if she tried to move to. You know where the Big Pharma companies are in the states in New Jersey Z.. Or California Boston. I mean the jobs are there but I just would have been much more difficult for her personally and much more expensive and she just said you know what draws great. I've got a job there like this company. And there she is she's working will given that and that the immigration policies that you cover play such a big role in some of these decisions is this really Something that Toronto or Vancouver are doing right or is it more. Just benefiting from something America's doing wrong right now or maybe not even wrong but Something that has fundamentally changed. I think the answer to that is both like I think the immigration system in the US was never particularly user friendly even before the trump administration came to power right and but the reality is now that it's gotten even harder for tech workers to get visas the denial rate for the new for new H.. One B. visas is way up in the past couple of years. It used to be like more than ninety percent got approved now. The approval rate is down to almost just about seventy five percent. which you know is still a lot? But it's a difference right. I think tech workers see that difference tech companies. Assume that difference and it's made everybody a little bit more reluctant to go through this process because there's more uncertainty. It was always long. It was always slow and expensive but you kind of new at the end of the day. You'd get your visa for your worker and they'd worked for you and now there's more uncertainty in people's minds and I think that really is pushing some tech workers away Not just the policy itself right but the perception that's causing people to look elsewhere and when they look at Canada I think they see that the country is doing the exact opposite the country is making it easier for these high skilled workers to come in and start working quickly and They notice you know the new Canadians that I talk to like how quickly they can get in that they can get this work permit in some cases in just a few weeks Compared to whatever it is months or years probably months but whatever a long period of time they'd have to wait in the US and another thing they talk about his. How quickly they can get ed permanent residency in Canada in the US that can take years and years to get a green card as we call it and the exact way time sort of depends on what country you're coming from mm for people from India and China in particular where a lot of people are coming? There's a really long line and the wait times can be measured actually in decades in some cases so Compare that to Canada. You get a passport in under five years you know. So that kind of certainty seems very attractive to people who want to put down roots. WanNa have a family Hard to do that when you don't really know what the immigration process is going to be for you a few years down the road and If it's ever GONNA lead to you having a passport in your new country I you know. So that's something people are thinking about when they make these decisions they're not just thinking about this job or you know even the second job. They're really moving their whole lives to North America and they WanNa know like what is going to happen to my family where we're going to be in five or ten years in Canada offers a much more predictable path. If you're looking at that far. How do American companies feel about this because you mentioned earlier that the jobs are still there in the states People are just choosing elsewhere. Because it's easier there but these guys are used to being the top choice for tech workers. Right they are and I think you know to to be totally fair. I think they still are a lot of cases right. I mean the bay area still has the cachet it has the venture capital. It has all all of that Seattle in New York people still want to work in these places but the H. One B. visas in this country are capped at eighty five

That's that's a great great to seventeen year old thing to say because because when you're seventeen year willing you're like they're like you're gonna get hurt. You know don't bother. Why would you wanna be with a girl like that and he's like. I wanna get hurt. I wanna give it a try and all of his scenes with it. Those two are really lovely. <hes> like after the first time he and diane have sachs and he decides to write her a letter and then he has cory in d._c. Read the letter and there's so moved and they're like. I've never gotten a letter like that. Those are just great scene so is lloyd dabbler kind of a to a a seventeen year old girl like a perfect boyfriend. He's <hes> is is this a word anomaly is that a word and i think what i mean is is that i don't know anybody who's like the the the character that he is. I've never i never met anybody at seventeen. Who was like that but it's very i think for them. It's very interesting to see someone that they consider a friend that they trust. That's cool. That's into good music that is as you know and is also just a really lovely sensitive person sweeter and he doesn't fit in as the typical guy right right he he tells mr court that he rarely drinks because he's an athlete like the honesty in this i just remember being trying to be as covert as possible possible of course with parents and teachers and you know babe newer through social workers give dropping her keys in her bag. I know and that's toy. That's why this movie is different. You know it's just not typical rights as movies and anomaly right and same with diane like one of the scenes that i wanted to talk about is when he picks her up up for the party and again. I remember thinking this. When i was young too is she so he picks her up at the high school party. You basically you know you get ready but you don't get super super dressed up and she is wearing like a wedding dress almost and she's got a rap and she's got a flower in her hair and it's so not the it's just the indicator cater that she doesn't know how to do this. Everybody else's dressed. Normally yeah just like you did in high school eighties you know so that is a great scene to me too because again now i look at movies through the lens of how are they developing these characters and there's just these very little things i love lloyd's trenchcoat. It's like a perfect look for him. Before trenchcoats became not a great thing i think after columbine trenchcoats ended up with not you know not being positive <hes> i like the the i like the as somebody who likes who look at things through a positive lens or in not a fake positive lens because i think lloyd is a really good example. What did they say in. What did cameron crowe say that optimism was a way of life or optima. Oh this was at that lloyd's whole outlook was that optimism was a revolutionary act okay so let me explain what they meant by that is lloyd had had a difficult life. His parents hadn't been around one thing that john cusack said is the way he got ready to play lloyd is he would he put this little scar dr on his eyebrow that you can really only see if you're kinda watching a few scenes close up and he did that like he put that on and he said once i put that scar on and put what my t shirt on or whatever i felt ready as lloyd but what the scar represented is he'd had rocks thrown at them like this is a kid who did not have it easy and and he probably been beat up obviously his parents weren't around and he had to develop in his own way so the fact that lloyd shows to be optimistic in the midst of his his pain is a revolutionary act love it. Do you see what i mean. I do and i didn't even think about that but yeah like his parents aren't around. He lives with his sister after that scene with john cusak so joan cusack his sister her name's constants in the movie constant is like pissed because t- i._m. Left okay okay so her his girl her either husband or boyfriend laughed. She's raising this son by herself. She's mad and you know at one point when lloyd's having such a good time with his nephew and they're doing that. Hey soul classics hanging stuff. She's like oh. My gosh can't you. I can't remember what she says something about. How can you be as uncle rather than his playmate and he's like. Can't you choose to be in a good mood and he's any he tells her. You used to be really funny. You were we're fun in a deranged rain. I mean that as a compliment and she's like i used to be funny. I know until it happens. When you make babies you get it grows you up real quick gross you up and dan pissed her off and she got pissed and went one way and loyd got pissed and went another way and so and they even say there's a scene that is deleted out of the movie. It didn't make the final cut but that even constance because of their love story has a bit of a turnaround that she watched what lloyd did and has a a bit of a turnaround hosting so they obviously decided not to make that a big part of it but you know optimism is a revolutionary act and sometimes the people that we admire the most are are the ones that have very good reason to not be optimistic. Is that quote movie. Optima optimism is rebelling. No i don't think so this is was cameron crowe's this kind of overarching theme for dot for loyd doppler and then there's a quote legged dare to be great situation there. They say like this will never work. It's like you just described every dared great situation yes and then one more thing about him is something that corey says to him or d._c. Is that the the world is full of guys be a man. Don't be a guy while you're you're going through the deep quote. Okay sorry so that's okay you know years. Were good <hes> we are. You already said i want to get hurt. That's kinda. Cool that deep but interesting and that's how the movie like kicks off. I wanna get hurt. <hes> i gave her my heart. She gave me a pats. -at's everybody remembers that one <hes> the the good booed quote that you just said and then that's all i had and then my best nandi quotas rikki. Don't lose that number ricky rickie don't so do you think he like sang that on his owner that was part of the have no idea but it's when mr court is so excited that diane got the fellowship and in the car she he <unk> starts singing that in the car and he's he's off pitch which he gets really excited. It's a little bit like <hes> jerry maguire. When tom cruise starts to sanford default so cameron crowe movie absolutely think it's like kind of a concept for him so you're a few my issues from the movie and some we've already and i like it to do any quotes assure so we already did that's my house. I lived there because todd and i say that all the time in real life. You're so that's what jason gould says. That's my house. I lived there then and when kate correy says to loyd at the. I think it's toward that end. I can't remember what scene where she says says lloyd no. I think it's at the party lloyd. I'm a good person but you're a great person. That's like a really really kind thing to say. Let's louis taylor's character. Lili taylor says that i'm a i'm a really good bert. I'm a good person but you're a great person. There's so many good actors in this movie and <hes> <hes> but watching the commentary they both had this they all three have meant is high regard for lili taylor as if she was the best of the bunch yeah well. They just kept saying she's so cool she she's took. She is a great actress. She was in a lot of good movies. I think she's kind of a staple of the eighties and her character in this movie is just really great and to be able to do you corey well to stay cool but to be so hurt as he never even think about oh. I wonder if corean lloyd would ever want to get to think think about it. That's right you don't eat. It's not a concern <hes> so let's see lloyd lloyd nolan void. Let's see what else is in here. <hes> <hes> i them.

corean lloyd lloyd lloyd nolan diane court cameron crowe Loyd lloyd dabbler dave d._c Lili taylor corey kager egger sir castle john cusack louis taylor kagan jason gould loyd doppler trenchcoats jerry maguire constance

"Alvian kitchen as ache i don't know but i know that i don't know oh well. Let's talk about that scene for a second okay. Why is the social worker from the school coming to the party. That's one of my issues with this movie. I again the first time i saw it. I thought to myself okay first of all. I don't even i'm not even quite sure who the counselors are at my school and why would they come to a party and that would be illegal and that you know there's alcohol here and dan. She's like really attractive so like that was weird to like that you would have a teacher that that attractive when that one random guy at the party walks walks by dan court and just says lloyd doppler all right thing. I would love to be the actor said. What did you do all right guy and he's an in another scene after sure that like if you look oh yeah he's in the party totally. He's like sitting when corrie okay so in that scene where he does lloyd dabo all right and then kinda rolls the other way which is cameron urban crows favorite scene dude. Did you hear him say that and he goes to the best parts coming up so any rules the other way and then you cut to the next scene corey singing another song and he's sitting right in front of okay okay yeah so he's a regular barbra. Streisand son is in this movie. What's his name. His name is jason gould okay. I believe what is great great. You know what other movie he was in right using prince of tides iraq's he was in prince of tides and in prince of tides. He's actually <hes> you know a little more attractive because because in say anything he has made to be the kid. What did they say he <hes>. I wanna make sure it's the name is jason. Gould it is jason so for those of you who don't know barbra. Barbara streisand used to be married to elliott gould and then they had elliott who'll monica's dad harassed low yeah so that's his dad oh yes so they said ed so in the movie and say anything. He's got what you'd call simply red hair. Do you know what that means. So this song one of the band's it was popular at the time was simply red. They sang the song holding back the years to remember that song own. Neither does anybody else oh my gosh chad they do anybody who knows the eighties no simply red and and the lead singer of simply red had this kinda shaved cut and it was like curly red hair and like swooped over to the side so jason gould has that haircut a an my favorite seem with jason gould in this movie is when he's looking in the mirror while drunk and he goes. Haven't we all done that. It's like oh yeah like panic. He's in the bathroom by himself and i think i think there's two different. Mirrors on two separate walls keeps looking looking at each one. He's like oh my god and then you don't see him for a while and then they cut to him praying to the porcelain god look at this gentleman here this gentleman here. I'm so <hes> the gimme the fire bird keys. That's jeremy piss the firebird. <hes> that's my house. I lived there devil. That's jason gold again back to jill actually before you move on because there's let's take these apart okay so that's a great scene because first of all i think that's a great character development for both diane and lloyd that they would because basically what happens is lloyd is the key master. It's his job to make sure everybody gets their keys at the end of the night and gets home safe and when they dump the bag which what's the guy's eric stoltz is chicken guy <hes> eric stoltz is there with him and they dump the bag and there's one set of keys left and and so they have to go look in the bathroom and they find jason gould on the toilet <hes> he'd been throwing up and so they he can't drive still so they drive him home but he doesn't know where he lives. That's awesome. It's forgotten this is before we had google maps and ways and when they get when they're driving down the street and that's a great scene because first of all that they would drive him home so it demonstrates what great people they are responsible but they also get the opportunity to drive through the night listening listening to great music and isn't that may have romantic thing ever they have the same musical tastes yes because you know that so. I gotta play a little bit of this okay.

jason gould lloyd dabo eric stoltz jason barbra Barbara streisand elliott gould Gould jason gold dan court iraq corrie ed diane jill monica

"Know but his reaction his facial reaction by John Mahoney is very subtle but you see this amount of Oh my God I'm in a lot of trump rats and then he recovers like with an instant correct so but yeah when FBI agents that's but did you see anything before that or did you just kind of go no no I actually I will be honest and say that the first time I saw the movie when was eighteen. I've thought that whole story was a distraction again now that I'm older I think that that's really interesting and plays really well into kind of you know say anything pantic movie with darker themes like it not everything is beautiful and perfect and but when you're eighteen you're like oh I just want their love story I'm like who cares about the Dow could have made this movie the Party scene is pretty long twenty minutes and you could of made the whole movie the party scene because it's so hilarious it's the best it's the best party scene I've ever I sixteen candles or American Pie as Pretty Realistic Party scenes and I don't know if this was any more realistic than the other ones but this was the funniest see an interesting because sixteen candles I think was over the top I again I was a sophomore overdid it and I was like yeah I get the hardy part in everybody's like you know the house is full but the whole thing of like ruining the record player and being trapped under a table pizza we're on the for totally phonograph just a record player let's call it a phonograph that's so old you've said snapper and phonograph great-grandma is somehow in this room and we talked about days of our lives also that you watched with her so yes like this party especially the the people are at this party like I sometimes think when Will you sixteen candles again yeah we'll you sixteen candles again remember are seeing that we love Jamie Gertz where she like I don't do that just you know that scene everybody's so loaded and yes we've been in that shape before and I've been parties like that but most of the time people are kind of like having normal conversations they may be buzzed and drinking but it's not such a it's not so crazy chaotic back so I think this scene is a little more what a party is really like so one quick parenting moment which I always thought was interesting and have you talked about honors and parenting podcast but this is one Diane is calling her dad in the middle of the party just to check in so this is what happens Ooh I always call you know that car stopping so grateful art I'll feel before dawn okay it sure would you mind did you really have to call your God nightmare I promise in a way to tell them nothing nothing I make sure I entered the house cry- These meal I'd love to hear speech when you said You were she enters the house crying and whose sister's that Um you remember whose sister so that actress she's got like a short blond by yeah that's David Lee Roth starts right isn't that interesting yes so few things in that seat and I don't know if you heard tab a win she's talking to her dad and she's like I'll be before dawn the girl in the background goes before dawn you know like they're like how are you telling your dad this but isn't that a weird thing seniors now I know she's about to go off to college right that's an extended curfew I absolutely thought that was crazy but again that plays into their relationship like she's not like I'm she's not being she's making the phone call you know in the other girls are like I would never make that phone call first of all not first of all like third fall in that scene the phone she's using his lip phone we know it's a high heel oh it's a hot that's right that's right do you remember in the eighties all the phones were either well there's obviously the NFL football phone but then girls headphones that were either the lips or the the shoes red hi-his perfect there's just all things in here that are perfect because there's so many little nuggets of gold in this party seed this is a total nuggets gold here we go maybe I should turn it up Scott I'll be in the kitchen the eggs so then Lloyd talks to Joe Joe's Hilarious and that scene he's so proud of somebody writing songs about the little spit Kolia she that he's just first of all he's with his girlfriend who got another namedrop here but that's China Phillips who he's with that's right from Wilson Phillips if you know that but that's his girlfriend and he's like not even really with her but he's staring at Corey the whole time while she's singing songs because how many songs written about Joe Sixty five life and they're all about heartbreak and loss and shows like dude why do you keep them they're gonna be valuable some tapes you can keep her tapes yeah that's good so I just wanted just tear through my favorite moments of the party okay call me piven is absolutely hilarious one of my favorite we still say you must shell you must chill Joe lies when he cries which is one of the songs when he's talking to Babe Ruth and he's like I know I don't know but that I don't know well let's talk about that scene for a second okay why is the social worker from the school coming to the party that's one of my issues with this movie I again the first time I saw God I thought to myself okay first of all I don't even I'm not even quite sure who the counselors are at my school and why would they come to a party and that would be so illegal and that you know there's alcohol here and she's like really attractive so like that was weird to like that you would have a teacher that that that's that attractive when that one random guy party walks by Dan Court and just as doppler right I would love to be the actor Said who what did you do like I was the lead alright guy and he's an in another seen after that like if you look for you find everywhere Oh yeah he's in the party totally he's like sitting so when cory okay so in that scene where he does Lloyd doppler all right and then kinda rolls the other way which is Cameron Crowe's favourite to say that and he goes to the best parts coming up so any rules the other way and then you cut to the next scene and corey singing another song and he's sitting right in front of okay yeah so he's a regular Barbra streisand son is in this movie what's his name his name is Jason Gould Okay I believe and it is great you know what other movie he was right using Prince of tides correct he was in Prince of tides and in Prince of tides he's actually you know a little more active because in say anything he is made to be the kid what did they say he I want to make sure it's Jason Gould is Jason Gould so for those who don't know Barbra streisand used to be married to Elliott Gould and then they had Elliott Gould Monica's dad harassed yeah so that's his dad Oh oh yeah so hey said so in the movie and say anything he's got what you'd call simply red hair you know what that means so the song one of the bands was popular at the time was simply red they sang the song holding back the years do you remember that Song Own Neither does anybody else oh my gosh they do anybody who knows the eighties no simply red and and the lead singer of simply red had this kinda shaved cut and it was like curly red hair and it like swooped over to the side so Jason Gould has that haircut favorite seem with Jason Gould in this movie is when he's looking in the mirror while drunk and he goes haven't we all done that like Oh my God yeah he's like panic he's in the bathroom himself and I think there's two different mirrors on two separate walls keeps looking looking at each one he's like Oh my God and then you don't see him for a while and then they cut to him pray into the porcelain God look at this gentleman here we'll get this gentleman here until the Gimme the Fire Bird keys that's Me Pissing firebird that's my house I lived there devil that's Jason Golden actually before you move on because there's let's take these art okay so that's a great scene because first of all I think that's a great character development for both Diane and Loyd that they would because basically what happens is Lloyd as the key master it's his job to make sure everybody gets gets their keys at the end of the night and gets home safe and when they dump the bag which what's the guy's Eric Stoltz is the chicken guy Eric Stoltz is there with him and they dump the bag and there's one set of keys left and so they have to go look in the back bathroom and they find Jason Gold on the toilet he'd been throwing up and so they he can't drive dell so they drive him home but he doesn't know where he lived that's awesome it's gotten this before we had google maps and ways and when they get we're driving down the street and that's a great scene because first of all that they would drive him home so it demonstrates what great people they are responsible but they also get the opportunity to drive through the right listening to great music and isn't that limit have romantic thing ever they have the same musical tastes yes because you know that so anyway I got to play a little bit of this okay Now the girls laughing David Lee Roth sisters so the cut to the scene where Joe so where she's going into the fridge in some separate room from the party looking for a beer or a coke or so he goes into you like the garage getting Joe shows up and he's like I'm GonNa he says something stupid like break up with her before she breaks up with me and then he hugs her she's totally into it and then he's like have sex with me and then she pushes away so does she love Joe or not of course she loves Joe so why didn't you WANNA have sex with him because well first of all she knows she knows Joe's story but they love love love the drama yes so todd todd went Win all boys school so he didn't quite have the experience of like having girls around all the time but you would sometimes date someone on and off get together knock it together be with him at one party not at the next one not because you necessarily you're in love with this person but because you love the drama it was just these were the people available to you and this is the experience that you had so she wants to write songs about him she wants him till care about her but no she's she also corey in this is kind of a series snowed they comment the fact that she tried to commit suicide over Joe drew member that Yeah Oh I think I do remember member so that's kind of a darker tone it she knows she can't have sex which oh she can write songs about him but she can't do that I just got to play this one more scene.

"All survivors of sexual assault. They will have to carry this for the rest of their lives. I feel deep remorse, and I hope that James and Wade no that I truly respect and admire them for speaking their truth. Really? Then why didn't you say that? Why did you say well they wanted to be there? They were thrilled to be there. It didn't kill them. Michael Jackson or his needs. She has one kid. I didn't know she had a kid who's on kid. She has a kid with Elliott Gould. I remember when she was with Elliott Gould. I didn't I didn't know that issues with Elliott Gould, who's there Jason Gould, how old is he I don't know. How old he is? But he is an American actor director, producer writer and singer. I've never heard how he does a lot of things. But let me see how old he is. He is. Fifty two years old. Jason Emmanuel gold. Well, congrats on having a psycho for mom. Yeah. Right, dude. You can only be seen on one side of her face. And apparently thinks as long as molestation doesn't kill you. It's fine. It's totally. Okay. Wow. Anyway, it's good that she got a lot of backlash and wrong. And by the way, if you haven't seen the Neverland documentary HBO watch it, it's pretty she's amazing. Six and she's seventy six, and you wouldn't know it from her face because she's got that weird ageless tiger face. Doesn't know. She's. Or like a lion tiger. It's not really tiger. So I hate the bow talks, right? Listen, it's not just that. It's all the other stuff. I don't hate the Tom. Yeah. I just think it's the bow talk about feeling ill face. Yeah. It's the filling. It's all the other stuff. Like your lips man that just looks weird. I think it's a combination of everything I don't hate it. I don't hate it at all. And I'm not against it. I'm just it's just that. When these people start looking totally unnatural that bothers me what's more the lip filler. I mean, it's just you know, what it is. It's not any specific product. It's about using a combination of products to completely disfigure your face. When you when you change the whole when you change who you are. And like when you don't look like you did at all, right? And that's when I start hearing about like, these twentysomethings who are like, I don't I'm gonna do this. And so I don't look anything. Like, I am supposed to look I ask a woman perspective on something. Yeah. Yeah. Cause you to your look very concerned. I look a little worried because you're scaring me. Gracefully. What what is the what why do women feel the need to do this? Because like you said, they look like people aging is not fun. It's not a fun time. I think it's different for us because we came into social media what social media. It became popular when we got into be got. Thirties and stuff. Yeah. I feel sorry for a lot of these girls who are in their twenties. And they are looking at Instagram every day thinking, I have to be perfect while you don't you just don't you don't have to there are the people that they're looking at. And that's the thing. All smoke and mirrors. It's fake. It's all fun now that we're discovering the people in their twenties are using these products as preventive measures that we've reached a whole new level of crazy. It is a whole new level of crazy. What they're saying. Like, if you use Bo talks in your twenties, it will prevent you from wrinkling, which I don't know if they're yeah. I don't know. There's nothing wrong with having a few wrinkles. I think that's the problem with society wrinkles. I I'm still alive. I still have love. I have the ring is ever smile with them. I think the bottom line is some there are people. Love me. Right. I still love myself. And I think that's the that's the point here is I still have friends. I still have family who loved me. I still have a husband who adores me. I still have. You know what I mean? I I have wrinkles on my face. It's okay. It's like, it doesn't it doesn't keep me from from being successful doesn't keep me from having having love doesn't keep me from living a full life. It's you can have a couple of wrinkles on your face. It's all right neglected. You've lived a life because we were talking about this yesterday before we went on air. I don't get the women obsession with all the makeup and everything I'm gonna see of. Oh my gosh. Like, the women who pile on the foundation, and the contouring and all it just looks like exhausting. I can't imagine going through that a lot of work. It's one thing if you're going to go on television, and they spray spray, you and spackle you. Yeah. It's another thing. If you're going every day to work, and you gotta do that. I just seems like it would be very give me my eyeliner and mascara and some lip gloss. I'm I'm right with you. So yeah, I just listen. We finally we say this. I'm not against that stuff. And I get it. I get it for like women who are in their forties and fifties, and they wanna get rid of a line here. And there I'm totally fine with that. We're not against it. It just breaks my heart. When I see these twentysomethings who are just obsessed with every little thing on their face. I mean, just love love yourself a little more. Yeah. I just love yourself 'cause you're real you're a wonderful creation of God. Love yourself. Wanted to mention to Roseanne Roseanne is being very vocal. She actually did a gig at the laugh factory in Vegas. And she said things she said when you get fire, you get real suicidal. But I'd never kill myself because that would make too many effing people happy, and I am not about to make people happy. Dear ABC when you asked me back to once again bail out of your bleep bleeping, low rated network. I did so with the same vigor I've always rocked. And I delivered you the highest ratings that you had in ten effing years at the first sign of controversy. You killed me off with the drug overdose. But you know, what I dead. I love this. Other than with her. And I was yeah. I was so mad and all that stuff went down. And she went after Sara Gilbert specifically saying, yeah, that that is who ruined her essentially. Yikes. Yikes. Is right. So she said that Sara Gilbert destroyed the show and her life with that single tweet. And she said she'll never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine key Ma gosh. Now Gilbert she's like while I'm extremely disappointed in Harper over the disillusion of the original show. She will always be family, and I will always love Roseanne. But the thing is you always love her. And if you think she was family, you wouldn't have said that you wouldn't have been so hard maybe would have gone to her. I put a bunch of crap out on Twitter because I wouldn't have done that to my family. That's the thing was Roseanne is the reason you exist as an actor. She's the reason you have a career. Yeah. So check yourself show is the Connor. So on is that it's still a thing. That's happening. It's not I. Anybody that does? I don't really care. All right. We have a lot more to talk about y'all. Stay tuned. It's almost birthday. Birthdays into the end of June. You are diva, but it's basically almost here. Daisy. And so is yours because we are aging and we're right about that age where hormones are getting all wonky, and we're getting sleep related injuries and stuff, and I'm saying things like through my hip out, which in my case is almost true this week. And in my case, this changes also mean changes in my hair at thyroid and adrenal issues to the maxim. I hear was really starting to take a beating. It's why I'm so glad we are transitions clients now here, you I've always hated my fine thin hair. I've always hated it wouldn't grow past my a certain point..

"Story about each other. Wanna know out? You don't want out. So what are you saying? Can you tell a story about other? Tell the story about each other that maybe no one's ever heard before the Woodlock. I'll tell you one thing about waiting. That's well, here's it's not a story. It's the it's so you see the kind of characters we do. And and you think well that's the guy because he's so good at playing those kind of guys that you go that must be the guy. Here's what you don't know about where first of all. And I'm not just saying this because sitting here one of the brightest guys, I know he's incredibly well read. He's my we've had some political conversations from social conversations, really sharp. And here's the thing. That's really. It's one of the fastest damn, man. I've ever seen running. You did a running thing on the show, and we were all going. Like a bullet. It was this is not a small, man. He is. And he said, well, I've spent my life fleeing. Thanks. Now, it's your turn. Four a cross dresser. He has some of the best taste that I've ever seen because usually you can spot it right away. With with Jason Gould that is an attract. Oh my God. It's jason. Because I couldn't afford the high end. From somebody else. Seinfeld. My wife twice a day. I get I get a lot of. So I get a lot of stuff walking down the street. I don't get the name as much as I get can't stand. You. I get little catchphrases yada, yada shrinkage. Festivus serenity now. And and I will almost always if somebody, you know, yell something that I know is assigned for that. Okay. The only thing I do not turn around for is. When they go George, and it's not that I'm trying to shirk. It's just that. So many times I've heard that I turn around very smart way to go. Yes. Yes. And they're calling somebody named George, and I feel like schmo that the other thing about these guys that didn't being with both of them the public because it's weird when you're out with somebody who's known usually three people out of ten in a room. No you or seventy there. Everybody knows you and the cool thing is they light up. It's like you give people in today's world where people go on through stuff, and they're stressed and money problems. People see them, and they just light up. And what do you think I supposed you Seinfeld is a show that won't die and syndication stays of popular new generations, keep finding I mean, my son's not going that did you seek gun smoke last night. Seinfeld. Festival. The real mccoys are the real McCoy. So what are you? What are you? What is it about that show? Jerry disagrees with me about this. Because Jerry says that it's just because it's funny. You know that it's funny funniest funny. Okay. Fine. I believe that it tells the truth about humanity, which is that we stink. Basically are no good people on the planet. But you want something and you recognize all the people on the show. I know him I know him. I don't recognize myself. But I recognize him I recognize him. But you know, what I think part of the news is that no matter. What happens you still everybody wants to have those best friends to come over all the time and hang and as much as I know there was no hugs. No, no hugging. No learning. Felt like you eat in a weird way have each other's back. No matter what you're wrong. I mean that. Cast. Yes. But the characters now now, I I also don't understand the longevity because yes, it's funny. But it's funny from topical stuff from twenty years ago. I mean, we didn't have there were no cellphones. When we were making that show. When a young when a kid in college goes, I'm grooving on this show. Now, I I really, and that's when I said, it's popular in the Middle East. I'm not kidding. I've been recognized all over the Middle East. And I'm talking about, you know, two Palestinians in small towns going. What are they watching what you know what because extensively? They call it to show about nothing which is a lie because it's about stuff that everybody goes through the jury's out, Jerry charity thing 'cause thank you Jason Jason, and Jerry and Ray Romano and burger we actually did a Seinfeld Ray reunion for charity, which was amazing and Jerry comes up with the thing, you know, five hour energy who decided five hours with the optimal time for our eight hour day. Yeah. Hours our two hours and hours five hours who needs five hours of energy. How much more would have to do the toilets to the floor? They can't throw your shoes. Why don't they don't before? So Jerry sees this stuff. And that's what the show is. Wow. Oh, wow. I gotta tell ya. Not just because I love him and I worked for him. But he just sees things. I knew he was a genius. What I saw him do a standup it about newspapers. And he said they must be so relieved at the end of every day that just enough things happen to fill the paper perfectly at five. Oh five. They must go have one. More thing happens we go to paragraph. I'm an empty page. And I thought that is so brilliant, and you have that mind working with the mind who says I gotta get the Dodger Stadium. I'll pick up a Hooker. Those two geniuses somehow found each other. And from that came this show.

And when you like the month before her tweeting about it. It does. Really even more believable that she's like, no I want to do this one. And I want to go and support spike. And she tweeted about a star is born g wrote it was wonderful. It's going to be a huge hit. How about that? But anyway, her Twitter feed is absolutely. All right. She's and I feel like she. I mean, she might not be pressing all the buttons. But she's telling somebody what to say. And I liked that she does throwbacks every single week like a week ago Thursday. It was the throwback from the Oscars when she took her son, Jason Gould, and she's wearing a rose Donna, Karen, velvet Mata. What's a Schneider? Either..
