"Frank langfitt welcome to the show right great to be your linda. I was so excited when i heard that you wanted to do this. for anybody. Who is not familiar with ted last. I'll i'll just say it is the story of american football coach. Ted lasso. who gets a job coaching richmond. Which is an english soccer team. Or you know football team for more basics. You can listen to our previous episode about season wine. We covered the show back in november of last year. Season to find. Ted played by. Jason davis confronted by a lot of his own insecurities after the arrival of a therapist named dr sharon fieldstone played by sarah niles. He's still surrounded by assistant coaches nathan and beard team owner rebecca. And her right. Hand higgins young star jimmy tart retired player roy kent and his girlfriend kiely who works for the team in marketing and a big ensemble of young players. Frank i have to ask you. You are an american working in the uk. Just like ted. How do you think the show captures that experience. I think it's what i love about. Ted was he was just sort of this extreme version almost of an english persons worst nightmare of an american. You know un- unbelievably friendly in a way that was just totally contextual inappropriate. You know so optimistic full of these aphorisms and he's really sort of a stereotype particularly in american in london. So i was. I immediately was interested in the show and just wanted to see it. Sorta from the for the cross cultural references and to see how we got on. And how the this entire you know. English cast got along with him. Yeah you were kind enough to go out in london to the pub. This is the pub where the show is shot right. This is the the pub in the show. it is yeah and you spoke to some locals about ten lasso. Yeah i was talking to him in name just mccrory. She works for an american company in london. And i said you know do you. In any way relate to kind of the culture clash when ted shows up and she said absolutely and a lot of it was americans being so effusive And this is how she put it when we were chatting in the pub the pricing when someone says something good we don't really want to praise them up but move on but i find it american culture. It's let's keep harping on about how we did. Give.

"I don't think it's even trump specific. But i feel is the domino effect of like we definitely would not have me too if it weren't for the trump administration that i feel. I don't feel a lot of things with you. i don't think so. I mean because it happened right when the obama because remember what happened inauguration day. A women's march against everything that he stood for whatever he stands for. Then it's like we're going to sort of it out and everyone else other than him and make them pay for what he represents can't get him out to pink. Yeah so even if you don't have to talk about him specifically i mean we're going to talk about immigration which is a result of whom you're going to talk about me to even the the banks and getting access to our facebook. That's his fault. i'm blaming him. You're going to have bird jokes and the way the way. Update update is delegated. It's you know it's about four minutes and then at three minute feature and then you know what i mean three minutes and then maybe of three minute feature and you what. I'm so. it's like the real estate that we have to be able to talk about it and it's between two people so you cut that i like it's almost like like income. So there's you get two minutes. I pretty much. I pretty much get four minutes talking about everything. Talk about in the week and some are has to be trump. So it's like how do you not like it. Didn't motherfucker is tweeden saturday. Morning was saturday afternoon. Which have. I could almost set my clock to this motherfucker. He tweets saturday at like eight the morning between anywhere between seven eleven in the morning. I gotta look at it. We gotta look at all the jokes that we have bigger out all right. We'll what develops is this more important and this. What do we have to so like. We have all jokes on the table. We'd be we gotta lift shit. All right this is this is not even important anymore. Feels weird to say this. By the time you know midnight combs. This is gonna be old news so it's just exhausting but not even so much update specific. I just mean show wise. I think that people have seen the impression people who've seen us go through. We cover not so. I feel like this is gonna be a year where we may be taken to the next level of just creatively of different things. That's possible with our cast and not let this mode for dominate. Take the lead in the news. we'll follow. that's what i mean. You know it's not just me. It's not up to me. It's also let me as a show like 'cause the news doing the same thing that you're staying away from my msnbc cnn. It's all the same all the time his name. So yeah and he knows he's he's playing an instrument exactly when to say some crazy shit about lebron. You know yeah. He knows when he knows when the dominate motherfucker knows how to control the the the news. And everybody's guilty because we all think it's interesting we all want the clout you know. We all want to have the the witty perfect thing to say about what he's saying. And it's just like dude. You don't realize you're playing along you know you really just you. Don't get it to hollywood star fame. People they already took the lead said. Just take it away so it won't be known debate. No argument has gone. Good we so speaking of distraction in wrapping up his episode This was fun as hell butler. Thanks for letting me come up here. Well i i have to say. Do you have to make more willie. No i eileen look. I have three youtube mixes or my private youtube page ones. All michael ones also train. The other is willing to release. It was really really. Is this this. i'm. I'm probably know it's funny. It's it's a character that michael's re written for kenan thompson. All would occur how optimistic he's my The most optimistic. I know he's my neighbor. He always sees the bright side of everything but he just has the worst life. It's really sad he's been involved with like you know here's the wars luck on has the worst luck on. He's always trying to cheer me up and he just keeps us an example willie's based on a real person. No oh sh- well. He's not based on a real person. I del mar. Who was sort of like this. Isn't snl sketch you okay this weekend. Update he's a. He's update character. "That'll be my pick right now by could pick anybody and i'll probably regret that in. It'll be mack jones but you need them to start week to in order to win. Oh definitely like has to start week to but he could not play at all week one and i still. You could still win defensive rookie of the year. I don't know why i just have. Maybe you can. You can help me with this. If i'm just like crazy like is c. Horn going to be awesome. I think i think he's going to. I kinda think he's going to get worse by corey davis this weekend. Yeah really well. That's really interesting. Have you gotta get to the power eighty minutes now. Because i want to know if you're gonna take the jets on the money line and that that was kind of my defensive rookie of the year. Because i think you could go in fifty. Different directions was that was that enough predictions. Oh i did division so. Afc pretty chunky. buffalo cleveland. Bow with baltimore having the injuries tennessee and kansas city philly. Winning the nfc east green bay. So that's your official prediction philly to win the division one. I do that. That's like what. Vince mcmahon would call grapefruits. I mean to be honest like you. Could you could say any of the four teams and like everyone listening would have to at least be like okay. I agree with that. No i mean. I don't know if i can make good giants case but i would not immediately shout down the person who was making the giants jason garrett results if it was like of detroit in the nfc north. Yeah i'm gonna shut you down on that one that would stuff green bay in the north tampa bay in the south. And then i went san francisco in the west. Even though i i wanted to write down arizona but i don't think they're the most likely to do. I wanted to write down seattle. Actually but i just don't think they can get there with the cars are not the rams. Can i write that one. Yeah so san francisco becomes the bet there. I also have tampa winning the super bowl. That doesn't get over surprised. Anyone saying that for a long time here. I also think it's going to be a bucks cheap so you better. You bet your home for talk mvp. How's it not going to be. Tom brady but everyone knows the to is my long shot. Play for mvp. Maybe i should have waited until after week. One when he's going to get absolutely railroaded by the patriots. Here get get a better number onto. He's got no choice. Josh we puts his puts his helmet into to his ribcage into it. A live through this game and then the full or back and get that can go from their defensive rookie of the year. Jason davis of washington. I think he's going to be awesome. That defense is going to be awesome. Love chase young. Obviously defensive player of the year. I got bucks niners and chiefs bills in the respective championship games. Yeah i just. I couldn't i couldn't pick a non chiefs team. I was trying to think about how i would do that. And i just that would be the conference..

"A little higher than most people anticipated so that a former linebacker in the nfl. Pick jamie davis guy. Who you know coach. Luke keithly and thomas davis jason davis stud. I think would would make me dead wrong. I think ryan fitzpatrick continuing to grow off of Some of his better seasons in recent memories could make me dead wrong Antonio gibson Becomes a you know borderline elite running back And then division just sucking. I mean i think that's very possible that this division is not good I'm kind of with you. I think the eagles are gonna be better than most people expect Don't know totally what to think of the giants. That defense last night for the cowboys look like same old. Same old mike. Parsons didn't know what the hell he was doing out there So i i think that's all i could be absolutely dead wrong with this prediction yeah. I thought mike parsons had A up and down night. There were times where he looked like a rookie playing in the nfl for the first time and then there are other times where he clearly flashed and you could see the athleticism If if i told you that an nfc east team is going to win. More than eleven games. Would you be shocked and be. Who would it be. I don't wanna be prisoner of the moment. i think it would be dallas. Maybe they figure things out defensively You know they don't have that. I play schedule. So i mean granted for dallas right there. Crossover is new england on the road. So it's not like they get a pass In that regard the eagles get the chats. Everyone else gets a pretty hard opponent there But they get. I believe arizona if i remember correct Nfc west But i think with that offense. I mean my god i mean they have so many freaking weapons all over the place and i i think this feeling on them is in my opinion the highest of anyone in the in the division because maybe dan quinn can start figuring things out maybe like the parson Is a you know can become what we all kind of expect him to become so. That's yeah.

"Think if the defense takes extra step right. I mean you're looking at a front four of all first round picks. We had sean merriman in studio earlier this week and he loves washington. He's a defensive guy he thinks chase young's gonna have thirteen or fourteen sacks this year He he he loves what he's seeing from him he thinks he's going to wreak havoc. He did say you know there are gonna be times where chase young now is going to have a couple of games where he doesn't Doesn't get to the quarterback he thinks says factory and they come in bunches but he loves what he's seeing defensively and the crazy thing is in this. Kind of me sean. Maryland been retired for. How many years like. I played with ryan fitzpatrick. He was a teammate of mine. It's like good lord. But he's like it but what he said was you know. He's like fifty he's gonna have great stretches and he's gonna have bad stretches like we all matt anticipate but he said in this division You know those three four games may not matter all much. So he was a believer in fitzpatrick playing with him He loves the defense. He loves that front. And he's like what you know chase young like i. Did you know paraphrasing for shot. Mary means he's gonna get double team this year. He's going to get chipped. He's gonna he's gonna be the reason Teams you gotta come after him but washington has enough talent elsewhere to make other teams pay for that so is it opened up test sweat and he was talking about sweat there so i think that's how it'd be dead wrong William jackson does he continue as a ball or a corner He locked down there so I think there's plenty of chances You know. I bet. Jason davis to win rookie of the year Defensive rookie of the year. Which would be kind of interesting considering. That'd be back to back defensive. Rookie of the years in washington Don't really love my position where i'm at right now. Just based off of how the preseason went but that said. I think if if you're asking me how wrong is. James davis turns out to be the linebacker. That ron rivera. jack. Del rio handpick right. I mean he was a riser and the draft process going nineteen was.

"And you know, our guys work extremely hard on those details. You know the coaches Or work and turn over every day and part of the turnover circuit becomes what to do in transition. Once you get your hands on the ball now, you know then and you obviously saw that from the unit. But you know, Jordan was really straight. And I mean, I didn't know he had some. We're going him like that. He was sitting there really going and I thought it was one away from getting there. And if we had probably picked up one more block, we would have been able to get it in. But You know, those are those are those are those are the X factor plays that really make a big difference. I think there was a positive field position, obviously, and I think we scored on the very next place. So it was. It was part of that. That big swing for us, Yeah. On the quick change Hill to Frimpong 17 yards for the touchdown pass. You are correct Coach special teams CJ Kerik, nine points in the game. Gets to 212 and his career most by a placekicker at the University of Rhode Island, passing that Walker on that list, and he'll be chasing Jason Davis this year for number one all time. You are I? You've got a steady guy. They're kicking the football for you. Yeah, It's really good to have that. I mean, you know, it's been You know, kicking game is critically important. The ones that put points on the board, obviously or or, you know, hugely important and C J. You know, has been very consistent force and continue to expect him to do the same thing. Uh, you know, kick off. We got to work on a little bit, and you know, he takes pride in all those things, and so we'll get better at that. But you know, top CJ and there's good. He's got range. He's got distance and Really that can can change my thinking a little bit when we get into the 30 yard line area, you know, in the past, we've been able to go for it on fourth down quite a bit in that area, but I think he's got the range to be able to put the ball down and And get it through is as I've stretched them out throughout the course of training camp to see what he really is capable of. And and I did see him with a little bit of back when you know wind behind them in a little right to left, But he did nail the 65 yard or during Training camp, So we've got some range there and just hope we don't have to line up for a 65 yard refer dubbed, but it would be a good fit. Absolutely. We're going to take a break. Justice Antrim is going to join us. Who's the anchor Beerer on Saturday night, and that Brian game. We're also going to talk to, uh to, uh Mike Flanagan, Who's the associate head coach of the University of Rhode Island. All that coming up in the gym? Flemmi, coaches stove stay with us..

"Coaching football. You are a legend for doing something. Say i mean it's mental. What news from the other side of the atlantic. Afc richmond announced the hiring of their new manager. American football coaches had last year on american is now in charge of full slump despite possessing very little knowledge know. Afc richmond is going to give you everything they got win or lose all tie right. Y'all do you see that. He must be from england. Yeah another country yes. No how many countries are in this country for man. Let me tell ya. Same thing happened. I have been watching ted less for the last forty eight hours. Man i am hooked on. I started watching season. One and i know i'm late to the game man. That's how with their own man. I same thing. With game of thrones man. I just i was late. I started watching it and just couldn't stop watching episodes man. I've been watching. This marathons of of ted laso should the other night. I went to bed and could not sleep and it was because of ted lhasa and find out what's don't happen to ted man. This show. i do watch the show. Yes i have my friend in dallas on the visit him and he kept talking about it and he has apple tv so he sat me down to watch a bunch and despite him the entire time. And i mean the entire time going. Watch this part. this is funny coming up here. You got to see this watch watch. i'm watching. It was like watching it with less experience but despite him doing it the entire time. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. And i get why people like it because it is a show where you think okay. It's going to have some cynical bite to it but not this character is. it's refreshing. Want something like man when people said that this was a feel good show. Because everybody's talking about you getting tired of life pandemic and you down stupid as people ruining your day cut on ted last. I've said i'll be damned. They are right. Yeah got me. Feeling a little porn moustache. She got his optimism. But you got the shame from game. Yeah man that chick is fine. Because i remember everybody told us they said look is it may not that that none that was bringing that bill say they say man look up in real life and jesus hannah wedding wedding ham. She sold yeah sheets. She's about as tallish. Game of thrones too but yeah man he's characters so you haven't seen this show. I'm just telling you to give it a chance man. Because i'm glad i got on it because the show is getting so many good reviews people talking about it so much people love and his show. I'm sure i'm gonna catch it at the point where people gonna be like man fuck dish. So that's the only go that's already started. I just read at the beginning of last week. There's now the taylor lasts backlash. Backlash is good is yet right. You somehow makes this show is it and all that. Oh he's he's too nice. That's not realistic off. Ted laso backlash course. Wow it just started your fresh on. That bart jesus. I'm so glad. I got in here. Because i can hear people now. Wow you guys. Reload ted lasso. He's really annoying young that to manage show so phoning shows too hard to make you feel good. I heard the backlash. But i'm sure that that's coming up in new york. Jesus christ just won't shut up. How do you people like this guy. Fuck do all right. Everyone raised about this show. I watch is i. i guess. That's alright people will. Then you know what i'm not hip pretentious. Fuck like you. Lhasa ted last saw was it. Good and i have some things i complain about in there but man this show is just. It's just funny. Hit the okay. So if you haven't seen the show ted. Lasso is an american football coach. He teaches them or he's coached american football and people just love him because of his optimistic spirit and attitude man. The guys always always has always no matter how you try to bring him down he always you always has like a saying he always has like a quip. You always have joke. Y'all have something to respond to whatever negativity you're bringing in this situation. Oh well you ain't gonna bring ted down. Ted's gonna bring you right back up. Yeah he gets over there and he gets met with good old british sarcasm and just aggression and it just bounces off like anybody else would have been like. Fuck you guys. He doesn't let that happen. Yeah anybody would have been like especially americans. Yeah oh yeah yeah. America's would have been like. Fuck you you say. Hey would rub it in. Yeah but they meet many media in the whole country about why. Why a wakeup. And i'm not gonna say too much. But they he's been set up to fail when he's been called over to do this. And because these two different sports man. He's coached football not soccer. Which is their football so when they bring him over. And i'm not gonna have the details because you you know. The plays out throughout the series. But he's been brought over to pretty much just mess up. Man just messed the whole thing because he doesn't know soccer that's exactly why he's there because he's going to make the team moves in. The you know wasn't any jason davis. Yeah yeah i like him. Anyway so i'm already partial one of my favorite actors man. I've i am so happy for him because he was a net. Oh it jesse owens movie or something. He was he was in that he was so good in that movie man and he was one. His first time on. Doing dramatic acting are dramatic role in the movie. Just kind of all right and he got looked over for it. And i was like. It's been a better movie. Everybody talking about jesus today actor he is and so now. he's getting his chance. So i'm a little biased. Anyway because i like that guy so much. Now he's super talented. And he kills it here. Yeah but as mandated it. Don't get me wrong. Look unknown if you watch the show. I'm saying things you already heard. Let me just have my time. No corey the backlash is happening. You cannot have phony more before y'all let me just give you one last. Bit of ted lasso optimism before all these haters start trying to bring this showdown which you say. It's already going on. Because listen i'm going to be honest with you the way i really did start watching the show and get into. It is because of something stupid. I mean people now. This is probably was getting mad at the people. The the shows become so popular. Daddy just up. Stupid controversies over. So there's an award you all right martin. I want you because you're going to get you're going to do one thing you roll your gonna look at me like i say it's like it's my fault. Y'all been worn. I really have my interest. Pete because of some stupid has articles out there talking about one of the actors. Here brett goldstein. They say you know something. We don't even believe he's human. He's cgi people at this and he looks like a character from fifa to like. I saw this today. Facebook on facebook. And i've seen this read this and look i'll be honest with you. Is i say silly. But a looked at the pictures. Like i can see it. Yeah i kind of can't tell me if you've seen footage of the story mode. It's like look pretty realistic. And now it's like yeah. I.

That would have been a ninth win. He missed two kicks against dallas on thanksgiving day. That could have been another one and he missed a big kick against detroit in a game that they could have won it. Just he's missed. He's made some big kicks to he. Missed a big. Pat against seattle last year late in the season. I don't i don't understand why they don't bring in anybody to push him. I don't think they will. You'll hear what ron rivera said about him. Coming up shortly but hopkins was obviously the number one trending player for washington from that game. And you know a lot of you are sick to your stomach that he is not being competed with camp. The guy that kicked for new england last night he did miss a pat but he was three for three on field goals and looked really really good. Remember their lead kicker nick folk so this guy His name is nordine. I think quinn nordine you know. D- trade for him. The ascend who england sixth rounder. And say we want him now and we want him to compete with our guy for the rest of camp. I don't know because He's gonna get released and he'll probably get picked up if he continues to kick this way. Hopkins was on the things that i did not like list. That's an obvious one. You the tackling wasn't great The rookie jason davis didn't show anything but i don't have a big problem with that. He's thinking a lot. Put him in a lot of different positions. It's a city cerebral position on defense middle linebacker. He's not just lining up rushing the passer. It's going to take some time. Probably with a guy like davis. I would not come to any serious conclusion. On jamie davis his first experiences an as an nfl player The tackling it was sloppy in the second half even in the first half That's it I hated that. Nbc sports washington started the broadcast with full screen. Chirons showing football team. You know was patriot was patriots and football team and then clearly they got a lot of complaints and they dropped it and they put washington in their remember. Nobody you know should be referring to them as football team. It's not touchdown football team it's touchdown washington. It's not i down football team. It's first down washington. It's not a full screen. Chiron the score football team versus new england or football team for the patriots. It's washington that's the way you would say that's the way you would say it. Set fifty percent of the time when it was redskins nbc. Sports washington shouldn't have made that mistake from the beginning. They did fix it When we come back. I'm gonna play some of the things that ron rivera said. Including what he said about dustin hopkins. And i thought there were a couple of things taylor heinecke said about two of the young players that i want you to hear. That's next right after these words from a few of.

"I for anyone who has the unfortunate fate of not having watched head lasso yet. What are you even doing people. How would you describe the character of ted lasso. So i think ted so is it shouldn't be a serious character right. This is a college football coach from kansas. Who is going over to coach. Manage in the english premier league. The whole setup feels absurd. Which i think is why the character seems to work so well because this guy is a. He's folksy. he has these things he will say. I mean come on. Sam was more open than the jar peanut butter on my kitchen counter. That's right y'all don't know. I like to keep the peanut butter open. That way whenever i walk back and just stick my finger and yet he has this inner goodness that i think when when he comes across people that they seem to react to you coaching football make. You are a legend for doing something. So i mean it's meno murdy well you know. I've heard that tune before. But here i am still dancing. Ted last. So is the quintessential mid western kindness guy. You know a guy who wants to do well in the world treat other people the right way and just kind of live life with optimism and kindness and all those like grape characteristics that we'd all like to have. Yeah i think it really is his relentless optimism. That wins you over in the show. Is there a particular scene in the series that you think really captures that element of his personality. You know i was thinking about this. In the first episode. He's gone over to england. He's been introduced to the media. He talks to the team. And everybody's obviously it's not going well and then him and coach beard kind of redecorate the office. They put up the john wooden pyramid of success. They put up. All these american touchstones like muhammad ali poster in the miracle on ice poster all in the office. And then roy kent the kind of the you know. The quintessential english footballer. He comes in the office and he calls him ronald mcdonald and i think he uses an expletive and then he leaves the office and ten lasso goes he thinks may now wait. We win them over if he thinks he's mad. Now wait until we win them over.

"That but like we wanted to make it positive because detroit isn't only You know A car thieves in drug dealers. You know but but if you look at depictions on on television you think that's all it is only robocop the movie you know we were like deserves fun comedy and we grew up there. We love we love it. We would always be like oh it would be great too. We knew that we couldn't Make our careers the way we wanted to and still live in detroit because the opportunities just aren't there but we knew that we want to come back with something and do something and come back show back up and be like yeah but come back with something and we'll talk about that before we even left detroit before we had any idea that we're really going to be able to do anything like that. So when the opportunity came it was like truly. I mean we talk about this remember when we was in the ports and talk about that and like yeah and then we start crying Is really important to us to sort of do that. You feel like you. You grew up splitting time between detroit and ghana where you're from which i'm sure be complicated for variety reasons but do you feel like it's sort of gave you an outsider's perspective. Sometimes of what was special about detroit where person some people might have a harder time if there if they weren't getting that perspective on it yes i do think that i have a sort of a micro macro view of detroit you know from having my perspective be of growing up in detroit also in africa and even some mike perspective on detroit detroit as it relates to america how the world views america brazil the world views detroit specifically and race in detroit. You know how the city is going other places in the world to so in in london to ghana that were in ghana. Everybody is black and except for the people who are immigrants. The immigrants are white. You know And of course they they still the amount of power they have. There is still not a parallel in any means to to but you know in africa. Black is like you're not like oh the black guy who says a black guy african unless you're in south africa but whatever but in detroit. The city is seventy five percent black so having that appreciation for that seeing that or maybe even taking that for granted as a youth is something i could see you know and also mind you. Also that was also very important for us to reflect that in the show. Yeah so on the show. We made sure that it's seventy five apes and black of extras the casting. It wasn't going to be you know A white guy and a black guy in the sea of white people. Or whatever and that's detroit you know and like every now and then bringing it by like no. It's detroiters is a black show has ten minute. You know what i mean. And that was a very much on the family reunion episodes. I feel like that's the show. It's like it's and his family and then like a white guy enters it like exactly so often tame is the is the weird one in the situation by being a white person exactly and mike always the focus. Now it's not like all goes white person's doing but is that he is still learning because you know he's not gonna have him be my sister. I haven't been married to. My sister was also very conscious. Things like anti it and so he is a member of the family so he's not just a friend he's my he's my brother-in-law as something else about the show. So yeah you know. He is in out he. He's in our space you know but he is also comfortable in belongs in that space. Yeah definitely i mean it is one of the more interesting aspects of just sort of like how your show how. The show ended up talking about these. Those those things have just sort of. It's and you'll still have tim learning they'll be situations where like tim. There's like one time where the secretary of like. Oh sam you would have had such a hard time back then in timberlake me. I would also have our time exactly. Yeah i feel bad laughing at our own jokes. So i just i just watch. I forget that job. Forget that joke to sort of like black blaming comedy is also in blind spots. You know like an exists like a person who was unaware of themselves in tim. Is that a lot in the show. Yeah so we're talking a little bit but so you have this idea. Want something about detroit You jason davis meet you guys use as friends wants to do something about you guys france you have the friendship part the detroit part. How did that become this show about friendship. This show about detroit. Well we knew that like the we say like a sort of pitch on. The show was salmon. Tim if they were half as lucky and twice as dumb you know so. That's so how are they buddies. Like how are are they in so. We know that there's a friendship. A friendship on detroiters is almost exactly our friendship in real life. You know so. We knew that that would be fertile land to sort play and like i mean. We can filter through and like early on. They were very much trying to like ask. Like how are these guys different. Maybe they fight more like no. That's not what this entrusted in israel. So like even if we're making comedy trust us. We don't need to be fighting over the fact we don't need to like insert conflict like that that you know you don't need any conflict it could be the only exactly yeah. They need to be on the same team. Navigating this world because they haven't seen point of view and that we can talk about that point of view together. They don't need a big internal conflict. They can deal with external conflicts. They even they cause and so that like the so. The idea was going to be that no matter what. And we're like well it's gotta be detroit and detroit's got to be the third character of this show And we were trying to figure out the ways. I if i really early on. I think we were going to be parking lot attendants so we're going to be like just two guys stacked together in like the small little booth in park intended but then we leave work and go on these adventures. But then you know. Like i i wanted it to be something that would also occupy them. So we want we want a workplace can also generate. You know things to care about And you know. We didn't want to be tv writers if our experiences in writing comedy. But you don't wanna like that's not a detroit thing accommodator reading show about new york and the show about chicago. La yeah so you can become writer your thriving these guys. It'd be like blue collar in a way. Not that at at agencies are blue collar but you know they do work in tied with the auto industry yes really well what are these are the guys who make commercials because then it gives them something to aspire towards like there are low level will rent and then they want to hit the big times which is like a also very Very detroit you know. They do any work full of heart hoping to do more And the parallel to writing these commercials is like our way of being comedy writers. 'cause in their creatives ya but who are creative for higher So we're gonna foul matt thing and it allowed us to draw from our experiences writing and also being in detroit and also have it be an industrial sort of blue collar thing that they did. So you had a small stable of writers amber ruffin on the show michael tehran show plus you two plus the co creators at cannon and joe kelly how are you building and then sort of writing episodes so four of us me. Joe zack. in. Tim would really kind of beating out sort of story things you know and joe was like our most seasoned like a sitcom writer. Because you know he'd he'd worked. You know on other shows like how. I met your mother and things like that so he was the guy on the board like a whiteboard. And we'd like just have these episode ideas and kind of like right the mouth then like note cards like sort of what our topics that we want to talk about or would want to do and so the kind of lean meat and i kinda hit those Topics and like see like what things can all fit into an what which one of these ideas is a big enough saying that that's what the episode will be about and then like we'll find a abi story and even see story with that like or or like n beating that thing maybe we can find something in there. That's like a bigger thing. But we kind of just like then brainstorm in the room and then just sort of find all the beats..

"Optimistic positive energy inspirational show. You can find. It's headed by bill lawrence creator of scrubs and cougar town and zach. Braff directed the first episode. Really really interested to see that though as we've discussed do not care for zach braff. Well i i don't know a tidbit. Don't let that color your your perception of the shell. Apparently a lot of people really enjoy it. And jason davis is the lead jason sudan. Guest deserves it. I love a today. Guess i found myself finding a lot of surprising little injuries on these lists. 'cause i i guess i'm used to the snobbery or the prestigious -ness of the oscars were scifi and fantasy other than lord of the rings really fights really hard to get the recognition it deserves and just doesn't get it but then here at the emmys outstanding drama series. We have both the boys. The man delorean lovecraft country. Those three are listed among like the crowd and the handmaid's tale which is also consi- fires and this is us. You've got the injuries. I expect to be there. And then all of a sudden like amazon prime. The boys i mean. I think there's definitely a moment right. Now where people are more receptive to your. I guess they are typical scifi and fantasy narratives. But they're more receptive to the setting. I think i think that's becoming a bigger and bigger part of our culture. Yeah i guess the the sentiment from the emmys as well. This cape stuff seems to be sticking around. We might as well like watched some of it and oh turns out. This one's really good because it kind of comments on cape stuff. Finally someone's talking about the cape stuff right now. I have a bit of a quibble henry. I'm here. I'm gonna quibble with a category which one because there are so many. It is outstanding lead actor in a limited series or tv movie. Hold on let me scroll. I read the to you okay..

"Fifteen last year at this time. Never would've saw zaven collins was. I personally wasn't familiar with him. Last year a linebacker from from tulsa at this point time last year didn't know much about it. Jalen phillips we knew as a big time recruit and ucla ended up at miami. He played as well as any pass rusher in college. Football last year ended up being the eighteenth pick Jason davis was a late riser. Their kentucky go through some of these other names here. T- greg newsom. At northwestern was the twenty six pick peyton turner from houston was a twenty eighth picks. Stokes from georgia was a twenty th. Pick the rest of those guys. I feel like we. You know we knew the opt-out guys with joe try on and jason away but that's a good number of names of guys who i mean you might have known who they were a little bit but we weren't thinking of these guys is first round pick slasher at this time. Now they weren't household names. They weren't stars and dj. I think it continues to speak to what we talked about the pros and cons of being an opt-out. Football is a developmental sport. Where you have to get reps to develop and become a better player. The only way to acquire skills through repetition and so some of these guys who will be viewed as johnny-come-latelies or one year wonders. Were guys who really the light went on. After years of development on the practice field they finally clicked and they started performing at a high level in games. You talked about all of the mag jones guy who he was the backup quarterback behind two guys. That eventually went on to be atop picks before he got his opportunity to be the starting quarterback and when he got his opportunity he took advantage of it I think we go all the way back. Before joe burrow joe burrow was another one. They kind of came out of left field to be the number one overall pick. It is really important for us just because we don't know the names early in the year..

"You're all excited about the oscars this weekend and rotten tomatoes award senior editor. Jack cullen lee is here to fill us in on the three things you gotta know before you watch and i will say this. This woman has a ninety eight percent chance at predicting. What's going to happen on sunday. You gave us all the grammy's you gave it to his real. What's the first thing we have to know about the oscars for this beacon for the oscars. We definitely wanna talk about all of the historic first. That are possible for this weekend. I mean there are so many different books that we're excited about. But most importantly just the fact that all of the different nominees have this possibility of being first time winners and first time folks to sort of make different make a difference beal for the oscars this year. What are we the dress code the dress code. Because i know that they've been encouraged to show up in their oscar. Best are we going to see all kinds of glam or will people still be subdued and kind of respectful of the environment and feeling. Actually everyone has been required to dress of steven soderbergh. Who is actually producing. The show has said that they want everyone there. Statellite offices throughout the globe. Essentially telling folks show up in your finery london new york. La in poor downtown at union station. What you're trying to say is that jason davis will not be absolutely chasing today because will not be in a hoodie. You're going to have to do it. And no zooms. These are all going to be completely in okay now. I heard that the oscars this year is supposed to look like a giant movie. What does that even need. So as i said steven soderbergh who's producing the show famed director. He won for traffic and he said this is going to be a stenham matic experience though one of the things that the support him is the ability to shoot it like a bill. And it's going to have that old hollywood film and glam and they're still going to have great performances although there won't have it the way that they did before leslie odom junior and her all recorded their performances on the academy museum stage and they'll all be able to head back that way and show it on oscar night. Okay the.

"It to nick for the podcast and that'll be my opportunity to re watch it all. So what's your. What's your relationship with jason. Today are you a big fan. Are you honestly. I gotta flip desire to be note. Like what i i really. I don't know anything about him. I saw him once in the city. And that was it. That's that's my my only most of your story start an living in new york. Ooh gimme gimme your like a couple of top like i. I lived in new york city. And i met this person. Never nice or man. I saw again off again Queen latifah on a subway and she like had a grocery bag. Well how interest so. I used to work for this company that worked on broadway shows and had like studio spaces for everyone who was coming to rehearse on broadway so i ran to a few celebrities. They're three interesting ones. That come to mind the really quick one ways. I had to take huge shit right before meeting so i went to the bathroom. Single person bathroom. And i fucking shut my brains out. I took the possibly smellier shit. I've ever taken my fucking life. And then you know who fucking walks in amy schumer. Their name comedian joke. Yes she walked in right after me. She rushed in there. And i felt so bad and i like like. How often can someone say celebrity smelled their shit. Smell your private at home shits mellow someone smelt it. She spelled it. And i was like bucks yet to just sit in and i felt so bad for her and i was like i i never i never want to see her in relief and i never want interact with her again. Because i will have the shame on my soul forever guys if you wanna know how was for amy schumer. Go ahead at abc twitter and jared put out into the work turning red funky seaver. Nobody has if you want us to be somebody. amy mcrae. remember that shit smell. Let make a. I'm gonna plugging kind of mood. I'm gonna keep plugging this hole tie. Okay go ahead go ahead. that's that's my biggest one. I ran into the guy What's that guy's name Rupert potter kid harry potter not air products. Weasley one not. Daniela excellent nobody. Nobody knows nobody knows. No one in the chat knows. No one in chat links harry potter or anything bruins. Thank you so honestly honestly dash you. Are we appreciate you too fast fast. You should reassess some things no so he ran into him. I thought he was an intern at my job. So i was going and he was like oh good and i was like okay cool and then i kept going because i was like. Oh we're hiring new entrance today then so cool because you came office. A person who treated celebrity just like a normal person said hello. Move down with your life. You look of anna's totally doesn't remember. That was an accident bro. We weren't allowed to talk to the celebrities like was On the floor you were fucking allowed to interact with so for the next like entire day. I was fucking terrified. Was going to get fired. Because i people saw me say hi like. I knew him and i was like. Oh no i'm gonna fucking get fired. Cool hey man what's up. How are you. that's so cool. Maybe he was so confident that the thought that. Maybe i did know what i'm saying this be a lesson you marcus the next happens. You just need to lead with that. Like who's like jesus davis is in the bodega outside of your work. And your there. You just need to be like. Oh hey how's it going. You just can't be that cool that cool comical. I hope i'll be so confident that it confuse them by doing this guy so cancer i'm saying and then and then remind is okay. You had talked about being on the podcast. Boom were paying. Then they guilty guilt them into but just gets do you. Are you big fan really. I'm not really huge fan of him. I actually found out that this was a character that he did on a bit for like british for like wherever they show the premier league whatever like british version of espn is probably still espn and bse or some shit. I don't know i. I watched it. Yeah yeah so. The character that i know so long ago decided to jerry into a tv show now super random. I like the guy. I'd have nothing against him. And i decided to watch this show and after watching show. I'm a fan love. The guy i'll marcus. Every funky south africa's i fucking love. Jason davis win in his tenure in his tenure at snl he was so okay snl. I have a love hate relationship with us now as most comedians. Fucking do right sometimes. It's sometimes it's awful. We know this. There's always one guy on snl at a time that just defines and era for me right. Now it's back every time backs in a sketch. I'm like fucking nailed it. Every time he does like you just get it. You get my comedy. Brain was always that way when he comes in. He's just like i just has such a arab out on that shines through and the so genuine. I love him in sketches. I love him. He has he's like i mean he's done movies stop. He's he's not like bucket. Tom cruise anything like he's not even like so many things that it's like crazy world But like i love like him and colossal and him in. We're the millers and like there's not a lot of them up drinking little things he's been But but here's the thing about today. He's always been And man the the next guy the second guy. He's always been like supporting. He's always been even in sketches on. Snl he's always like he's never like the guy who comes in and he's a monkey person right. You know what i mean. That doesn't die if he he's like almost like a lot of time at the straight man. That's like responding and has like funny quips so when you said ted lhasa fuck this is google like i still don't know what the fuck says And then when i watched the trailer was like wait. It's just like jason suit against his show. I was bucking so for it. Because he be and this is my opinion before i watched any of this was like i want to see him lead something. I want to be the lead. Because i love how enduring you usually as i love. How funny he usually is. How like every man but like on top of it he is so i was ready or before anything because i jason. If you're out there. If you're out there listening i was the fan. I so yes you can tweet at us and say wow great great podcast episode guys end now trae this cast but truly you need to tag at knickknack nervous. Because he's been as they want hole the second city shop chops i see them. Nick you fucking honey traps me you fucking laid out one honey pie and i fill right for that. Sweet sweet glued good juice because you were like oh how do you feel about him. You don't like it that much. i fucking love him. Also calling out jason. He could watch this video. You're gonna look stupid if he sees this. That's what happened. I hey i love you yeah. That's what happened. If you're longtime fan of the podcast. You'll know most of what i say. Most of what i do on this past. Podcast is almost always just a setup on march very fair. so. If i can't set up my friends who can i set up. You know what i mean. I had the temperament for pranks so i gotta get him some other way. You know. yeah i get that. I've never tried. But i feel like if i feel like if i had put a bucket a man as outside your door so you stepped in it. I don't think he'd be like oh. You got me nick. Let's let's do this thing. "A livia. Wild and harry styles were spotted holding hands at as off sweating now. Before we get into this. I wanna pause right here and insert a clip of me predicting either florence hugh pugh or libya wild. We're going to try to date harry styles. And i wasn't sure which one it was gonna be but considering that florence has not officially ever announced her breakup with zach. Braff and for all. I know they're still together. I think my prediction came pretty true. Is it really sense. Don't know am i gonna use. Am i gonna find the clip and insert it right here. You're damn straight so enjoy honestly. I've heard that florence. Pugh in zach braff are breaking up on a break or just like kind of on the rocks and then olivia broke up with her bill and conveniently olivia and florence. Pugh are about to be in a movie with harry sil- so sounds like they wanna get down with harry styles. Can't blame them. Okay back to present day. So i don't have a lot to say about this because harry loves an older woman. I think that this might be the first time he's dated someone in public. Who has kids has two kids. Jason davis we talked about how her and jason were never married but obviously they had a very serious relationship. And so i don't think it's out of the norm for harry to be dating someone six years or i'm sorry ten years his senior. She is thirty six. he is twenty six. I think they're kind of cute together. It's hard for me to look. Pass my jealousy with anyone dating harry styles. It is such an irrational thought. And i realize it's like i want. I fully fully realized how irrational it is to get jealous over someone dating someone. The i literally don't have a chance in hell to ever even like share a friendly kiss with and again you guys know i'm all about manifesting but i m so beyond aware that all i can really manifest as a friendship with harry styles because there is no way in hell that we would ever have a romantic relationship like i am painfully aware of that fact i am not a model. I am not olivia wilde. I like to think he wanted to be around me for my personality. But i'm just i'm not going to cut it..
