"Falling gets eighty to admit way, eighty four Maryville Indiana eighty one along the city's lakefront I'm telling the T pogo in the WGN newsroom. Ready to join the conversation live whenever story changes on Chicago's very own seven twenty WGN this family wanted Justice. That's right because revenge belongs to God. Seven twenty WGN. Pete McMurray and the AllState skyline studios Jason Van Dyke found guilty of second degree murder also found guilty on sixteen counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Joining us is Quan, McDonald's, great uncle the Reverend Marvin hunter Reverend thank you for joining us. How are you, sir? Thank you. How were you? First of all, we're very sorry for your loss. You feel that Justice has been served with this verdict. I do. What what were your thoughts during the case as this was going on? Did you feel like it was going to go with the prosecution or the defense? What were you? What was your thought process? Initially going into the case. Of I had a lot of distrust, Cook County criminal Justice system, the whole, but after we got into the middle of the case and begin to steal the spirit of the prostitution and begin to see the skill and his team. And as I begin to watch this judge and how he was able to be unbiased. Roles. There was a great chance to get a conviction in the end. I knew it was going to be a conviction Reverend. There was talk about moving the trial out of Cook County did the McDonald family want that to happen. I know the defense was pushing towards it. What what were your family's thoughts on that? Absolutely not. We did not want to move out of Cook County, a number of reasons, I think that it was a great decision to keep it here. Know of any place, they could've taken it and people would have not had the same outcome and opinion, and which was derived on Friday. Were you were you in the courtroom throughout the the entire process? Absolutely my promise to my family. And when I did the first press conference. Was that I would follow this trial from gavel, and I did. So what were your thoughts? When Jason Van Dyke took the stand. I felt that. Very. In very disingenuous with his a chance to make himself. Look like he was the victim. Certainly he was the perpetrator throughout this entire ordeal. And my thoughts I begin to actually feel compassion for him and the situation that he was in and you'd have to be on human not to write it'll looking over his wife and maybe had his daughters in the winter winners in this. I need you to understand. We will not looking for revenge. Did they wanted Justice? And the cost was wanted Justice. We wanted to be the American system to do what it was designed to do that. I think in this case a historic case it actually did that. And I'm proud to be an American and I'm proud to live in the county and cook right now. We're talking with Reverend Marvin hunter Liqun McDonald's. Great uncle, you know, you mentioned compassion. I saw the press conferences, that's one of the reasons that we wanted to have you on the show today because you were very vocal after every day of court, and you mentioned compassion when Jason Van Dyke was on the stand. If I was in your position, I would be I think I would be angry, and you came out and said, I feel compassion and I feel bad for his family. Well, absolutely again, I say, no, I shouldn't say there are no winners in. But there's no one is between the Van Dyke McDonald family, the winners and dance. The graveyard, which the coins body line Herbert he made a lot of money. I'll just try does this add any closure? To your family. I know it's tragic, but does it add closure? The Jason Van Dyke. Go to jail. Thank you. Thank you for asking. That question. I think that all the interviews. You. I went out there. Yes. It does. Let me tell you. This family is big committal in our culture. We have what's called the middle of the body to the earth back down and the benediction. So now family has asked collusion and to be perfectly honest with you. I I've been able to actually get a night's sleep. Because my mind would never shut off. The trial was going on not only that this gives closer for America. Because I've always said that represents all of the victims around this country who have suffered the same kind of injustice, these laws that exist in daily with this. I discovered that those laws are kidding within the apple cart track. Well, Chicago needs to heal Reverend. How do we heal after this? Because as you said, this is this has been such a nationwide issue. It was on national news. The verdict was on national news on Friday after it came out. We carried it live this trial was under a microscope. How Chicago now move forward? How do we bridge the gap between the African American community? And and Chicago how do we do that? We must go to Springfield and change the law that is that is hidden between the uniform disciplinary piece off. So that. We have to do that. Because the contract that apple the in the city of Chicago sign that contract has its basis in its core. Belief wrapped up and tied up into that law. And that Moore is where Jim Cole malls. That press and that violate the fourteenth amendment right of the center for Chicago. And that has to change. Jason Van Dyke kept saying he was doing his job. Give the young lady that was a police officer last gateway as. I believe that was maybe I wouldn't say that lady's justified that when she saw my nephew orange, Dan line on the ground the first call she made the calls the union won a human being. Green your suffering and die. Right. And so that means that there's a problem there. Jason Van Dyke had over twenty complaints lodged against him and at the seven complaints. I understand that police officers should be reprimanded a fire the suspended. They never suspended the man. Five hundred thousand dollars in in in complaints against him. The McDonnell out of five million dollars. And so I'm saying that there is something systemically wrong with this contract. Welby the management of the Chicago police all department. Also when all of the songs say that this guy needs to be fired. We'll sit down and so he can get out. Becomes a home? That three to four police officers in Chicago in the last couple of months that have taken their own lives. His job and couldn't do anything to help them because of their for P contract. It has to change the F O P. Of course, if people don't knows the fraternal order of police, which is the police officers union now Reverend we've heard so much about Jason Van Dyke. His family is teenage daughter. What can you tell us about la- Quan? I don't I don't know if I know anything about him. You're is great uncle. Mcdonnell. Great uncle. So he was like a lot of babies under me. So you probably spent more time with my grandchildren. Did they about me? But he was what I know of him. He was a happy every time. I was around. He was happy. Now. I don't know if that was because I was dollars. That he loves to sing Johndroe music. Rapper and and and and he loved. The camaraderie of being with his cousin is boy cousins and friends and. He had this personality way. Turn it on one moment. He thought he was the little baby. And the next moment he wanted to be this big boy basketball wrap wrap bothers. That's the extent that I can give you in terms of my interaction with him. What sticks out to me the most the core? And they paint him as the savage, right? This is what Jason Chaffetz do terrible. This is what he did. John. I had a job. He was not. He didn't have to go and steal radio. He actually had a job his last. Check the soup that he had. So. Check that night if they had if he hadn't been kidnapped and taken to weight was taken to. However, the check before that check and bought a cake grandmother. A role. He was happy Reverend. Now, I want to bring in dome achieved almighty, you had a question for Reverend Marvin hunter. Yeah. Reverend once again sorry for your loss. You I've always wondered if this because it was a great piece in the times are member a few years ago, they marry Michler written about the Kwan's life and how he became award of the state can you walk us through some of the troubles. He's had as far as the family goes in. And where were you where were you in the family throughout all of his process? How difficult was it? As he's becoming word of the state and custody battles were happening. And things of that nature. You must understand that. The reason why we've never gotten Justice in the city of Chicago is because the moment that police doesn't just shooting. Production begins to all employees production that consists of the police department. The media activists pastors and and and and and other show on and so forth wherever they began to cover it up. Dan. So ninety percent of the things that you heard about my family and about the corn was all alive, and it was made up to present him as a kid or an inanimate object. So that people would not have compassion or empathy for the lynching which amounts to what what Jason Dan give him with amounted to lynching, that's explained. There was Donald MacDonald. The first are topsy had no no alcohol of any kind in his body. But then when they realized that they had to do a cover. They do another hot topsy and mysterious. Studiously? He has turns of peace and pianist, so which do you believe? Right. He was kidnapped and taken to that spot the spot in which they found the corner that there are no black people in that area. And and and Hispanic people he would have had to vote Hispanic game. Territories. And at least two black thing tail choice to get to where he that was. From where he lived. Still a truck radio, which they never produced a radio that was no that was no thing. A every out of the Trump. How could he cut through a twenty foot with Bob y? And there was no cut in. No holden. That stuff you heard. Lean about him was all that was made up to to to to precondition the minds of the American people in that jury to convict this police off so now, let's talk about the right? The kid. Mother mother. Pregnant in his mother grew up more like brother and sister. His grandma is great grandmother raised him. Two weeks before lukewarm was killed. Well, if he could have one month before his death after we get the guy when the killed him. He would have been in the house permanently with his mother who is not on drugs at the time. Who at clean entire life? He probably would have done had Jason Van Dyke not became just jewelry in education. That's the story. They never tell you in the news that they did not talk about because that's the story that wanted to put out about lukewarm. Mcdonalds is terrible people pay. Thousand dollars for his. The people that you're talking about. I have the book registry. And you to see you should read some of the things that the people were saying about the Quan s the funeral. This is before any cameras came this before anybody got paid to cover it up. This is just people coming to the film. And how they talked about him in the love and the arrangement. That's the story that never came out Reverend. That's why we wanted to have you on the show to tell your side of the story. We saw you on television. And again, we are very sorry for your loss. The Reverend Marvin hunter Lochlann.

And it had its ups and downs it thrived under Jim Drucker. Isaiah Thomas took it off for a little while and didn't do too. Well, almost ran it into the ground. And it is now rejuvenated itself as the G league with major sponsorships and the like and teams in the NBA actually own the G league teams. They used to be completely separate. It should be an interesting film. Kids to the G league games Long Island. Yeah, we had a blast five six games last night out of fun. Yeah. The fans the families and everything like that was smart that the NBA you heard have you listened to the interview first year the NBA gave the CBA three thousand dollars to run their entire league. Here's our contribution to help you out. But what we're going to ask you to do is we want to have constant contact with the officials because we're gonna look this as a developmental league for NBA officials players we'll pick our own players. We don't need you to run the league. But you could actually do us a favor by developing young officials wars and in three thousand dollars, and he said twelve years later when he resigned his the Commissioner was up to a million dollars. Well, now, they're partners. The league is basically owned by the NBA teams actually own the teams. So it's good that they have a minor league system in place. And yeah, Jim Drucker is a guy who is a big part of that in Albany was a very successful team that this documentary film is kind of based on chance. Check it out. Minor league mecca. And he got it any understood it, and we talked about the Knicks, and we talked about the Troon, and we talked about coaching and everything else. So this was kind of special for me. And I think it's a movie that you might wanna check out. Minor league mecca about two CBA about Albany being a key franchise in the CBI becoming a legitimate league. It's ups and downs thrived under Jim Drucker is eight Thomas took it off for a little while and didn't do too. Well, almost ran it into the ground. And it is now rejuvenated itself as the G league with major sponsorships and the like and teams in the NBA actually owned the G league teams. They used to be completely separate. It should be an interesting film kids to the G league games Long Island. Yeah, we had a blast. We went to like five six games last fun. Yeah. And the fans the families and everything like that. Was smart that the NBA you heard? You're listening to the interview first year the NBA game the CBA three thousand dollars their entire league. Here's our contribution you out. But what we're gonna ask you to do is we want to have constant contact with the officials because we're gonna look this as a developmental league for NBA officials players not we'll pick our own players. We don't need you to run the league. But you could actually do us a favor by developing young officials Boris and aimed three thousand dollars, and he said twelve years later when he resigned his the Commissioner was up to a million dollars. Well, now, they're partners. The G league is basically owned by the NBA teams actually own the teams. So it's good that they have a minor league system in place and the ad. Jim Drucker was a guy who is a big part of that in Albany was a very successful team that this Dr Michael film is kind of based on if you've got a chance to check it out. Minor league mecca. I join amac who you on CBS sports radio. Time out comeback run the phones. Chris Jason Dan hanging there. I'll get you eight five five two one two four CBS. We're back on the lines after latest CBS sports update with Peter Schwartz. Sports flash. Joni surprise surprise, thirty two.

Japan down the supply chain about what that shift means, for them and in all the enthusiasm around all those new technologies there are some really meaningful. Economic impacts that go far. Beyond the companies that you might imagine here's Christina Lindblad, with more we take a little trip to itchy. Prefecture this week which employs three hundred. And ten thousand auto workers this is where it is based on so all its suppliers in this area and and Toyota's CEO has been warning of this one cintas, century upheaval that is, coming from this triple threat, of electric vehicles ridesharing and driverless cars which. Reduced demand for autos but particularly electric vehicles because it's a whole Different car in many ways there many many parts that, go into combustion engines that are not found in. Electric cars I wanna read something from. The story that really jumped out of being right near the top it says here's a sample of what you won't find in an electric vehicle spark plugs pistons camshafts, fuel pumps injectors and, catalytic converters that's a lot, of stuff that list is half the legs Yes I mean it was good to sort of go through, and actually had an I had myself never released stop to. Think about it either so it was interesting to to. Look, at and then in Japan there haven't been studies yet about the size of the impact but in Germany already carmakers there have been sponsoring research into what could happen and there was a steady by the fried Hoffer institute that if just twenty, five percent of cars for electric vehicles nine percent of auto jobs in Germany would be at risk that's a. Lot how well and you. Know what twos interesting because you had a lot of stories. About companies, in the supply chain where maybe Toyota was their biggest customers. And small, business owners who were supplying parts to Toyota who were really concerned that if. Electric vehicles we're going to be the focus they wouldn't be able to keep up and they. Wouldn't be, able to have that investment into making the parts they go into, electric vehicles you also, get some, sad, stories on the. Ground as well I mean the company that we that we Profile which is called Asahi Teco is has workers in the hundreds range and they've been trying to invest to create sort of like more digital services technology but there, are a lot of companies in itchy that don't have that have like thirty workers are so they're already struggling. To make a profit I. Think in two thousand seventeen forty percent of manufacturers Toyota city. Of that, size of around thirty percents workers Didn't make any. Money so they don't have? The money to pump into RND to sort of extend their future into? New areas so I think that there's definitely going to be, a loss and so. What's your sense of Toyota's self perceived, responsibility, here I mean you mentioned it's called Toyota city I mean, there's a certain intrinsic element here that they feel it it seems a responsibility to help the broader industry or the community how does that. Play out do you think the company is invested and several large auto parts makers so those companies and those can be they're. Investing more heavily armed DNR better position but as far as we right now no there isn't any. Larger program does that it's going in place. But we're also talking about Toyota is a company that, because of the Prius because it's hybrid was so successful It was actually kind of a late comer to, electric cars it's been making a big push this year announcing new models some just for the China market so In a? Wage the Japanese auto sector is kind of coming from behind a, little bit compared to others can. Just play devil's advocate here and what what's the upside here because we do hear that, it is tough for the supply chain Toyota and all of that now but if, we go to electric vehicles and it's been pushing that big. Push in China who would stand to benefit from that while we all would in terms of. Pollution So in? That very away and these disruptions sometimes create industries in different places, so I think we are going. To see China become a much bigger player in autos when we shift to electric vehicles, and it's it's a big question about how how quickly Japan can make the transition What if. Would, you save companies like tesla so we know that, they're going to Shanghai to build a new factory are companies like Chazov a big push going into there and. Maybe still hiring more locals on the ground offset any declines they're getting from. Not being able to build traditional cars well I don't know too much about Tesla's supply chain but I think that it's. Hard for, me to think of Moscow walking around some of these works in Japan I wanna. Give, you my business they just they just sort of, look like the factories of the future but he's too busy raising money for his go privately there you go You're. Listening to.
