"It was 1999, a simpler time back then, and though Y two K loomed over the entire nation bracing for the year 2000 with its many unknowns. There was still so much optimism that energy that was encapsulated in art, design, music, and fashion. In 1999, The Sopranos got their start on HBO, R&B artist Lauryn Hill won multiple Grammys with her album, the miseducation of Lauryn Hill. On the big screen, Shakespeare in love won an Oscar for best picture, over Saving Private Ryan, shocking many. Carlos Santana collaborated with rob Thomas of matchbox 20, topping the charts with the song smooth and napster was born setting off millions of illegal downloads, and the biggest stars were Drew Barrymore, Jason Biggs, puff P diddy, and it girls Britney Spears in Paris Hilton, who were just beginning to discover the von Dutch brand. At the heart of the story were three men Ed Boswell, Mike cassell, and Bobby Vaughn. The origins of von Dutch traced back to the 1950s when a mechanic gunsmith car detailer by the name of Kenneth Kenney Robert Howard started making art under his pseudonym von Dutch. He painted pinstripes and flames and eyeballs on vintage classic cars and motorcycles, etching designs, it's a pocket knives and putting his art on oil and canvas. He was in a Basquiat, but he was popular enough to have had fans. Fans that included LA based art collector Ed Boswell, and so when Howard passed away in 1992, Boswell began eyeing his work. It wouldn't be until four years later, 1996 when Michael cassell convinced Howard's daughters to sell the rights to the von Dutch name. Now cassell was a former drug dealer who had just gotten out of jail after serving a four year sentence, and he, it has prodigy, young Bobby Vaughn, a surfer turn entrepreneur, decided to take on von Dutch and turn it into a company using Howard's signature as the trademark. The three men had the vision of creating the next iconic denim line with a flare of punk rock Americana. However, cassell and Vaughn had seen Boswell as a third wheel and like a gangster, they found a way to push him out. The first few years were rough, and they were constantly strapped for cash, making $0 from day one. And by the year 2000, it continued to be in dire need of funding. So cassell and Vaughn brought in Danish entrepreneur, Tony Sorenson. This proved to be a pivotal decision not only for the brand, but for the fate of cassell and Vaughn, which we'll learn about later. Sorensen not only invested in the brand, but he also ran it, taking the helm as CEO, and from there, things escalated pretty quickly. Sorenson hired French fashion designer Christian Odyssey to take the designs to the next level and boy did it work. Here's Caroline Rothwell gerstein who worked at von Dutch from 2001 to 2004 as VP of global marketing. I think the brand was so successful because it really appealed to the world of entertainment at the time. And by that I mean, there were a lot of people who were actors or singers musicians and prior to me coming out to California. I'd been on an independent record label and had dated people within the industry and there was a certain style and attitude and appreciation for certain types of fashion that was dedicated to American culture, throwback to icons in American history, on film, they seem to just gravitate to it and because there was so much attention to detail and authenticity with the brand. There was something about it that resonated. You see, Audi understood the power of influencer bargaining and got with all the hottest celebrities, sometimes fitting them personally. You had Jay-Z and Madonna, Ashton Kutcher wore his von Dutch trucker hat on his hit MTV show punk'd. And Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie almost only exclusively wore von Dutch gear on the first season of their hit TV show the simple life. And when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake had that very public breakup that made national news, what was she wearing on the cover of People magazine? Yes, that's right. Avon Dutch trucker cap. It was like a celebrity magnet. You know, I could see it when I would be in the store, you know, there would be a lot of just locals that lived in the neighborhood that were celebrity that enjoyed coming in and were able to be anonymous. They could come in and just play a game of pool and get fitted for tour or shop or get a custom pair of denim made. I remember one day, you know, like even Cameron Diaz came in and we, you know, I was working with Manny and with Michael and we had a pattern made in the back. I don't even know if there's any photos of her wearing von Dutch denim. It was much more of a community. It was very much under the radar, a place they could be anonymous. And just get something a little more special and a mainstream collection that you would see in a mall or in a store that everyone would wear. Von dutchess popularity was so tremendous that in 2003, the company was raking in $33 million in sales from their jackets, their denims, t-shirts, and hats. On the outside, everything seemed to be trucking along. But behind the scenes, things were far from the simple life. When we started to see the brand getting momentum and the beginnings of a cult brand. So basically a cult brand is when the product, even though it's small, it customer base is so loyal that they almost bridge on

And I'm drinking lemonade and you are drinking. Raspberry. I don't know if you've been drinking a lot. Noticed, this is our last night of vacation, and I don't know if you noticed my voice. I've lost it a little bit. And this isn't the first time this has happened to you. Right, but last night I was singing every lyric. To every song, yes. Yes. And then we went to this place called mcnasty's. Yeah. Late night. We close bars. People ask how old we are, more like 34 or 37, but it's bad we both say it at the same time. We say a different age. And then we tell people we've been besties for 35 years and people are like, huh, since the day we're born, but we went to a place called nasties. Right, late night at saint Pete's speech. But I will say, we decided that we would stay one extra night here at saint Pete's bus. She got this crazy looking rye. I thought something bad happened. Actually, we didn't cheers. We should chairs our drinks, right? Oh yeah. Yeah. We should. We should. Natural, neutral. We didn't know how to spell it actually, but we found this new drink last night and we love it. Cheers. So I think today we're going to talk a lot about vacations and how important it is to vacation with the people you love and also your Friends. Guys, girls. We've met a lot of bachelorette parties at bachelor parties. And no one seems very happy about getting married. Yeah, no one's happy about getting married. Well, I'm like, you should be excited about getting married. And I were giving advice marriage advice. A couple nights ago. Ebb and flow. That was you. Yeah. I'm not really clearly not I shouldn't be giving marriage advice to anybody. Well, no, it is ebb and flow, but you're like, you have to be mostly happy. These people that are getting married are like, yeah, so my soon to be spouse is not very fun. She's not lights out funny. We've met a few bachelorette parties and a few bachelor parties. And we met this great group of bachelors from Philly. They're not bachelors. They're all married. But the dude, one dude, Tommy, can you hear me? No, Tommy. Tommy. Tommy. So instead of zombie, by the cranberries, they were singing to me. Senor bed. No, it's in your head. It's in your head. Okay. They're going to listen to this too, which is I know. I know. But they were such a nice group of guys. Mostly married, mostly with girlfriends, and they were just like, gentlemen, funny, and they're all wearing 80s. Oh my God. Mullets. And mustaches. They all had to grow mustaches for this. For this particular party. Which I'm sure their wives were very happy because no one's getting picked up with those. Yeah, no one's got paid with those mustaches. But really good time, those guys are great. We went to this place called Jimmy bees, which is what my dad's name. Now we're staying there and we're literally our room is adjacent to the front door. Right, so if you hear some background noise, it's because we are literally next to the bar. You were like, you know what? We love it so much. We want to stay right here behind the square. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we have just met so many people. It's been so fun. But we were going to talk about former vacations, right? We were, but I just got to say one more thing about our time here is there's a lot of tats and ass and tits. Tits. Well, yes. People like the new trend now, which you guys probably are younger listeners all know where these bathing suits that are like just cover the crack of your butt. It doesn't even cover the crack of your butt. It's a thong. Bikini. That's just the line down the if it's not covering your crack. Opening your crack. What? Opening your crack. Up your crack. Okay, right? Yeah. And there are some beautiful people, but and then there's some not beautiful spots. My bum is covered here. Yeah. I mean, mine too. And yeah, but it's an attack out of control. Oh, there's so many cats. Some of them are beautiful, but some of them are aggressive. Obviously, we're done with hammered hammered, poor life choices, 20 something years ago. Or some of them just are doing it now. And then there's, yeah, there's really some interesting characters here. So the cool thing about saint Pete's beach is there's a thousand bars along the beach, but there's no age group. Everybody plays well together. So it's like ages like 20 I'm sure or under to 80, 80. There was a guy last night. Yes. And the ants with him. I was really nice. He was like 85. And someone was like, oh, he's Jimmy B oh, yeah. He wasn't. Well, we don't know. Oh, come on. He was just an old man. That was there, that someone was like, oh, that's him. Yeah, he was lovely. He was very cute. Yeah. Vacations. Vacations. So our first vacation together was when Vegas, Vegas, baby Vegas. Many years ago. I cried during that vacation, which was amazing. We didn't Kimball once while we were there, by the way. I tell people that all the time. Jen and I too have the best luck when we go places. We do. Yeah. We end up getting into crazy places with crazy people, like crazy, I mean famous people, high end, somehow just people. Well, he's not big anymore, but Jason Biggs, birthday party. Birthday party in Vegas. Remember who is The Rock band too? I really like the first night we were there. We ended up in the VIP section. No, no, I don't even know who that is, but it's a movie. Oh no. Ironic. Don't you think? A little too ironic, just kidding. But yeah, so yeah, that's what we did that Vegas. And we always just have the best luck. I remember I couldn't get into the bar because I forgot my ID. Britney Spears was just there. Doesn't matter, but I was trying to get into this bar waited for half an hour to get in. I get up there and I realize I don't have my ID. So this is my excuse. I was also half hammered. And I know half about it. Straight hole up in the bag. And the guy was like, you don't have your ID, you can't come in. And I was like, I'm a nurse. And he was like, oh, you're a nurse? Okay, okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That was also what I say when I'm stopped by cops. Right, right. Because you have your stethoscope hanging there. Yeah, and they're like a nurse. Okay, go. Yeah, yeah. Keep going. Yep. Yeah. That's a member and we've met that guy who was like a promoter or whatever, or not a promoter. I don't know what he did. Remember we went to that club. I think it was for Jason Biggs birthday. And we got to Fox vox. There was like 500 people in line and we got to cut the whole line and people were looking at us like, who the hell are those girls? Yeah, nobody's. I was like, I'm Jennifer Aniston's lookalike. Yeah. Doppelganger? I am no, nobody's. Yes, you are, Reese Witherspoon. And then we went to Atlantis. Yes, with just us. That was really good because that was in 2016, and that was before you went through all your before my life for our heart. Yes. I remember we met the guy with a very bad man jeans. Now, yes, he's the guy who got us into the pool. He owns all the electric companies and the Midwest. And the electric companies? Yeah, yeah,

But kaley and pete are filming a movie right. Now it's a romantic comedy. It's called me cute. You know so. They're clearly spending a lot of time together And this was bound to happen when there's just a random what feels like a random divorce they've been married for three years. She filed for divorce on september. Third the time line is always different right because there's always like when did they split. When did they get divorced. Because the announcement of a divorce always comes later. You never know how long they've actually been separated. But it felt like it had to be pretty recent and this is also one of my. This is also one of the examples of how like you really never know what's going on. In real life and social media can be so misleading on june thirtieth two months ago a little over two months ago. It was air anniversary and she posts on her instagram picture of the two of them. Shroud new york. June thirtieth two thousand sixteen year. We met two years to the day we got married now. Three years married why you stayed married to me for so long. I'm sincerely impressed at mr tank. Cook elo i love you. Oh so much. You have no idea happy anniversary. There had to have been something going on. I just don't know how you go from being like two months. I don't know like how something had been going on earlier. And you just put on a happy face on social media. Yes here's the thing we've seen before people post. Yeah very popey. I mean i agree with you. I think that a lot of people put on a happy face for social media in their relationships and they feel like they have to post about it and so people think. Oh y- now if we don't post there's gonna people think there's something going on and i think it's interesting. You mentioned the point where it's like pete davidson. Hey hey cheating. Yeah i could see that. Because of how passionate pete davidson is in his relationships even people who are like total players and like just fool around with a bunch of girls but when they get into relationships are so die hard about that person. I like i believe that. They don't cheat. Yeah even even though. It's pete davidson like i believe that he would hate. Yeah and it's also. So yes he him cheating or someone cheating on him but right right right him. Entering another person's relationship does he hate that much right. The is bound to happen when you announce your divorce right after completing a romantic comedy movie. You know it's like chia. Npr davidson just because of the name. And all a couple women he's dated. It's like oh you're telling me she just finished a movie with pete davidson and now. She's getting divorced. It was the same thing that olivia wilde was working with. Harry styles right and all of a sudden her engineers and she got divorced and olivia wilde with harry styles so i did check out her instagram stories. She's now back to filming the flight. Attendants i blew. She's overseas so. I really don't think there's anything to this. It's possible But you know what was actually a shock. Shocking to me is reading about the divorce and that they had like a very very strong pre-nup because they're both worth so much money. I don't really know her carl cooked. They're always like is it a question. They bonded 'cause kaley loves horses. He's also rider. And i was like. September out in. October moved out of his house house with his wife. So that's when they separated in. October of twenty twenty hosted. Snl on halloween. After he did that he relapsed on drugs And he took a was actually working for seth meyers a little bit in between that time and was continuing to use drugs and then in december his friends including seth meyers staged intervention. So he tells this whole story about you know. He thought he was going to dinner with a college friend. And he came in came home and wherever he was he was at his apartment and they had they had a professional woman there and staged a whole intervention. And you know like they're still comedians rights. Like they're still laughing about this like they're like. Have you ever seen fred. Try and be serious. They it was a room full of comedians. Who are john ladies. Closest friends trying to get him to clean up his act so then he went back to rehab for two months. He was out in february sober living for a month. And a half. And then the springing went went to la where he met and dating. Olivia munn who he had met previously at. Seth meyers wedding years ago. But when he was with his then they were then fiance and then he started. They started dating she's She's been huge help his recovery and now they're having a baby this the way john mullany sound. You need a little time for yourself to us and we will do say you can move that addiction to something to something else like all of a sudden you're attached to this person. You're not equipped to handle it because you never went fully through the recovery process and perhaps you turn back to drugs which obviously can happen anyway so I think that is everyone's biggest concern because this whole relationship has been so interesting to so many people because a livia mayan has stated in the past that she has been obsessed with john mullany.
