Patrick Courrielche Shares the Biggest Red Pill Moment of His Life
"All retell prey of this story that was what maybe one of the key red pilling moments for you and your wife? Yeah, it was one of the biggest red pills of my life. It was 2000 around 2010 or so our daughter started to come old enough to go to preschools and what have you. And we wanted to put her in the best preschool possible and so we got her into this preschool in Hollywood. We didn't know it at the time because we were friends with a lot of celebrities and the Hollywood people and what have you and that's how we ended up getting into this place. We didn't realize it, but it's this kind of community, this exclusive club in Hollywood. It's one of the most exclusive clubs, perhaps in America, where it happens to be the school systems in these epicenters like New York and Hollywood. With this particular system, was a fascinating look into the belly of the beast of Hollywood. We ended up getting into this elementary school. And it was all of the big celebrities were there. Jason Bateman had a kid in our class. Melissa McCarthy ended up having a kid in our class, Adam Scott, who's a big actor from multiple movies had kids in her class. Steve Carell. I mean, I could just go through and just start naming studio heads, huge writers. And we started to look around and we're like, why is everyone so excited about being here? And we started to realize that we were in a cult. And that's really, it's not an exaggeration. These people create this kind of community where they can kind of network with one another and it's more than just a kid going to school. Well, we had this experience where we caught this guy getting in bed. You're not going to believe this. We caught this guy getting in bed with other people's kids, okay? On sleepovers, right? Sleepovers, ages from kindergarten to second grade or so. And we caught him getting in bed with people's kids and we're like, what? What? And so we start asking around, there's this moment where all of these parents kind of went away the women went away on this kind of mommy's trip. They start talking to one another and they start talking about this guy and they have each has different stories about him getting in bed with other people's kids.

"It's it goes back to. It's a it's a wonderful lesson that i actually learned from my friend. Mike weiss who was in the entertainment business for a long time and and one of the things he told me was in the early days. He said whenever you can he called it. He said. Use your juice. He said whatever juice you've got us it he said because that's the key and what he met by. That was whatever juice you end up building up right. Whatever little brand you get whatever platform you have whatever company you're working for whatever friends you know whatever networking you have. That's your juice and you have to use it. And so that's a great example of where jason bateman and those. Three guys are using their juice. They're using you know they. They didn't buy the podcast because the content those people and they and they didn't get the multiple based on. I'm sure they didn't get the multiple based on solely the audience and they and many ways. They got the multiple that they got. Because it's jason bateman and will arnett. Right i mean that's that's that's part of it. They use their juice in order to to bump that up. It's the same thing with you. Know when george clooney goes off and and makes casa migos tequila casa migos. Tequila is not great. Let's be quite frank. It's not great tequila. But because it came from george clooney and he built that narrative around at about how it got created and he built it for his friends and it was all this wonderful thing. And it's home grown and it's got that celebrity aura around it using his juice. That's why it sells for hundreds of millions of dollars as a brand so use your juice. That's a it's a. it's a great lesson. Whatever it takes right. Whatever takes it takes. Don't feel bad about leveraging connections or small -tunities that you feel that you shouldn't 'cause you wanna do it on your own or whatever you do everything anything everything that's exactly so there you go there you have it all right. What do you got anything anything week. It's a long long weekend actually. It's it's we're having some fun because Last year every year for the fourth of july we go out to blossom music center. And it's in south of cleveland and we listened to the orchestra and they play fireworks. And it's a big deal. We've been doing this for many many years. The we always take about sixteen seventeen people out there with us and we weren't able to go last year so of course this year. We're able to go. We sit on the grass. We all we have little picnics together. And then it gets dark. The orchestra comes out and cleveland orchestras fantastic. And then we you know they play the william tell overture and all sorts of other things. So it's it's it's great so i'm looking forward to that this this weekend. How nice very nice. We are headed to the beach to do We have yeah. We have a little place up in montecito which is just near santa barbara for those of you who don't know california and we'll be up there for the long weekend sort of enjoying the beach enjoying some time away.

"Is kind of going to a dodger. Game sitting with hartwell. And whoever else is on your arguing back out there and just hanging out. I think that's great and you know you're kind of like a play. We were supposed to play golf. Actually the three. Burt sugarman exactly. Yes exactly will. I guess that makes that makes it. Well mary exactly right part you are. Burt sugarman sitting behind home plate. You know just yes yes always you. Are you a dodger fan. 'cause you live in the city i have a chance to take it for sure. But joe's not incorrect. I stopped following sort of late in the season. I just. i'm not die hard. Like you are. But i'm manila. Sports fan for sure the dodge by take you absolutely not. I played baseball. That was my. That was my sport. I mean i was. I was a pretty decent baseball player. Yeah yeah well. Kurt play pro ball you know. Kurt played for the padres in the angels. He played aaa He got hurt a week before he was supposed to get called up. I think santa alamar got injured. He was supposed to go out and play. Second base for the padres. Probably robby robby elmar. So i wrote robby robby alamar and yes. Oh baseball spinner forever. Yeah watch this documentary. That is about kurt. Russell's bastards of baseball. It's so good it's was a longtime hollywood guy and just kind of cashed it all in to bring an independent baseball team. This is real life to portland and they play. It was like this ragtag bunch of guys and they were taking on affiliated teams meaning. The dodgers triple a. And the aaa and they were beating everybody and it was it was it was a fad bing. Yeah who brought the circus to baseball. I mean they were having all this crazy shit happening between innings and it was basically the bad news bears i mean he was taking all these really talented ballplayers but who were just kind of you know fuck ups and you know what crazy people and they just crushed crushed. The league's that's on netflix. Battered bastards of baseball. You'll love it you'll love it. It's great all right. well obviously. We're both huge fans of yours jason..

"And that's probably why like directing to cause that person is is is contextualising. What's going on for the audience and so divide avid job. Where i'm doing both where. I have a hand on the wheel on in front of the camera and other hand on the wheel behind the camera. Now i can really bite off something. That's really totally complicated. Whether it's a comedy or drama. Because i'm the face of it and i'm kind of pulling the levers behind the camera to so That's that's that's the that's the cocktail. Really get a have a good time. Well congratulations on no social media. I don't know how you pulled that off. So i think there's a twitter There's a twitter a lane for me. I fleet okay. The past tense. I have a question. Because you've joe for a while now. Massive dodgers fan masters baseball. Was there a time before you knew. Joe buck that you did not like joe. Buck never never early. Never you never thought. Joe buck didn't like our dodgers dodgers. Look at you. Front runner will say okay. There was ever a point in time where you thought. Joe buck was rooting against the dodgers or didn't like the dodgers block. I'm sure he was being a cardinal. Fan you get hokey rooting for the dodgers Although you had our number all the way through the nineties. I think the angels were cardinals. We could not be For some reason khanate bay they owned kershaw too. Yeah they owned which is one of the greatest of all time. You guys played a great series against us Well i guess we got one more game left you guys but last night with. What's the name tyler. O.'neil catchy man. In the corner to the game a heartbreaker great game but Listen if you're going to be super passionate about one team in the national league and it's not the dodgers I get it with the cardinals. I mean the history of that team the support in that town. I mean it it is. It's the gold standard. You know it's a that is a that's like what green bay with football like. We just don't have much going on. There's no beach there's no you know you've got ten teams from Guy got the ozarks. We've got the ozarks and so just so you now people in saint louis. I hate the cardinals them. Playing against the dodgers and mookie betts. It's a home run. I gotta scream and yell because that's my job so that's just the way it goes that's garbage no way. You do the cardinals. I haven't done that longtime no i did that. Like i think my last two thousand four two thousand three somewhere in there so no not. You can say it right now. Let's make news. They are your favorite team in baseball. Who the cardinals right now. You'd better come quick. I jayson short. Yes let's talk. I swear to god on the health and safety of my children which i cannot be more serious about the whole rooting thing.

"I mean clearance simple. it was It was You know things were not going great in my career at all and like how tribute to that you know. I think it was the kind of work i was doing. I had kind of maxed out at people know the you know how small businesses the folks that that the cast television series in annan. My certain area it was the odds of even smaller group. There were kind of like. Oh yeah bateman. We know what he can do let. Let's read somebody fresh. Let's an actor. We haven't met with yet before someone who doesn't have high quotes because i've been added failing whatever get hired for that you know you're gonna be paying double for me guy that's the audience might be allergic to. Because they're tired of lives. Get somebody fresh. And they're cheaper so it was kind of that type of thing and then arrested development I was told about from an actual from from an agent of my liberal state. She called me and she said. Hey listen i know. You're with the different agency now but i saw the breakdown that you haven't been read for this particular show. No one knew agents about it because think if you really brave bob thank you. You didn't need to do this because know we're not working together anymore. But it's still so nice of you. And so i told the new agents i said what like. Yeah now you know we. We just didn't think that That shows not going anywhere. Let me let me read you. What it says on the cover sheet of the script so they redmi this thing and what it said was basically this is a kind of a guerilla style filmmaking. Kind of a mockumentary. The any actors that are not any actress that need big trailers and make up and lights and all that stuff. Don't bother because this is gonna be like a documentary condensate so and and they They said so even. I don't know the hell this is and is it. Will i read it. So i read it in. Its with a obviously amazing boat was scary about it was that it was a single camera. Comedy wasn't a multi camera comedy in front of a studio audience. You know typical sitcom which i was really known for this was this is one of the cool shows right. It was just one camera no audience and actually even further than that. It's this documentary. And it's ron howard is is narrating it and so it seemed like everything that you would not want to hire jason bateman to do. You wouldn't want him to drag. His sort of trash is trash or his his His his So the legacy of what i do is is of what this so anyway so Mitchell was apparently who's the boss on arrested development. He had read me for a show years ago and really liked me in the audition But didn't hire me but he remembered that did a good job. He told me this later and he said okay. So all auditioned for research. So in and i did the audition and just guessed right. You know you just got to guess what they need from that part the kind version of that character that's gonna fit for what they're trying to make. So i played it really strayed. Really kind of you know non-performance a sitcom with an audience..

"Hard for you to to let her find her own way knowing what the traps are out there as somebody who loves her more than anybody will ever love her. Yeah i mean. I think it is Sure you guys would agree it it. It would be a fool's errand thank you can. Keep them in a bubble They are going to be exposed to this stuff At an earlier age even than we were And so the best the best defense or safety mechanism not only four mom and dad's mental health but obviously most important thing for the for. The kids is to arm them with a decision making device that is as pristine as possible that is as capable as possible That when you have a choice a challenge decision to make you've got the kind of Coping mechanism that yield. something positive. You know that that might even be trying it but you have you know. Assess the situation. Where kate if i'm going to do it. This is the group of people at this is the situation. I'm not advocating that. They try it now or at any point. But i think it's just naive to think that they're not going to so you just hope that they are smart enough to make the decisions that we did. I i'm assuming i mean. I know that i was very deliberate about the first time i tried acts for the first time i tried. Why i i wasn't first time. It was around me. You know it was cake. Can i handle this. If i really like it or can i handle this if i get too drunk or too high or whatever you know my in a safe place i'm not i don't have to drive. All those little thing. Does those decisions though are informed by the way that you have brought up your daughter's or bringing up your daughter's because speaking from experience you know i was sixteen years old. I got expelled from crossroads. I worked at ca in the mail room i was i met a girl who turned out to be a heidi fleiss high class. Escort who i had a relationship with for eight months going to hollywood parties where there was massive amounts of drugs. Still to this day have never even tried cocaine. Because i looked at what was going on whereas a sixteen year old boy with twenty mid twenty people and it turned me off. I was watching. Jesus christ perfect example. But you're the your ability to see that as something that was right for you. the didn't fit for. You is the definition of having a healthy perspective the ability to compare who you are who you want to be who you like to think of yourself as an is it a fit with this external opportunity you know. Sometimes that's job sometimes. That's a friend. Sometimes that's girlfriend in this case it was a drug you just. That's what i mean about..

"Sort of go into the hit. The dark side you know. When did you start boozing and doing all the bad shit. Well law at mean as soon as i really was. I was working so hard as a kid that when i had an opportunity to catch up a little bit with the playing stuff you know that all my buddies were doing at school and parties afterwards. Whatnot I would so soon as i started have freedom or away from you know the parental eyeball as so sixteen soon as i start driving And then i moved out the second. I was eighteen up because you know home. Life was crap it was just because like let's let's go. Let's get started with this And then you know. I'm sort of a a hedonist. So i just i didn't understand the concept of what you've had three drinks and you got a good buzz but five drinks would be awesome. You know now you can get drunk instead of just buzzed or so. I just kind of always took it further than you probably should just because it didn't understand the concept of you know having just a good time when you can have a quote great time. That's what i thought more was so i wasn't to fill a hole or to mask pain. I don't think it was all just about. Let's let's get after it and then that just isn't cute after you know thirty thirty one. Thirty two for like my cut off time and Meeting meeting a a girlfriend slash wife who became my wife that that was worth to me making a bigger adjustment or earlier. Jesmyn that i wanted to A kind of forced that That that changed for me and haven't had a drink sense. Demand like throwback throwdown hammer was. She liked hey. She didn't really throw down the hammer but she was. You know she had lost a boyfriend to an overdose long before i ever met her so she had zero tolerance for and for any kind of You know that stuff. And i was already dialing it way way down and so as she was kind of putting the screws to me that screws me. She was just saying like why. Are you still doing it even just a little bit and i was like we'll because i'm not doing it a lot of bit. You know. I mean like i'm only doing this like a couple times a month. Now you know like that's great. I should be able to choose. I now but you're that close to just shut it off. Why don't you just do that. We'll screw you. Like what about all the progress. I made so there was that sort of impasse and ecomog got to the point. Well are you gonna come to me or my go-to you With this compromise and we took some time to think about it and we ended up coming back together with some overlap. Where she kind of was gonna come my direction. And i decided kind of go her direction and And off we went. And it's you know it's been Do you think it's going to be hard for you jason. You've got your girls. Are i think what fourteen and nine somewhere in that vicinity. So is it gonna be hard for you when they get to an age. Where the these influences come in kids have to navigate it. I've been through it. I've twenty plus year old daughters fourteen year almost there. I guess you're seeing year old boy. And i'm watching. What his friends are doing in the world that he's surrounded in now i'm like holy shit man..

"Not everyone does it every single bag. It's not the end in in this case. I knew how to act what. I wasn't acting such that. I wasn't really being myself like i really would have been more charming. I think watching it. In retrospect if i was as nervous as a twelve year old in on the conscious you consciously consciously making that decision like okay. It's time to turn it on jay xactly and that's and that's my. That's my problem with it. You know is that. I was wasting a lot of time. Being polished should have just been being human. And that's the question of do you do that now. No i mean. I certainly know how. And yes orton to know from going in for like a job interview and it's not gonna be cute or charming to have flops. Wed i can talk myself into being at least level so to there but will put on an artifice. That like. Hey you know. You're lucky to have me. You know like that kind of garbage that you might think when you were younger kid is the way to land a job or land the girl or whatever it is. I've kind of come to the point now at fifty two that the goal that the target is to be human and participate in in in every moment of every day without any bs. I mean that i tried to do that. And it's a it's a. It's an ambitious goal. But maybe that's so exhausted just being an actor with my with my day job. I don't wanna do any what i'm you know. Why did you start acting. How did that come about. I mean you were so young with your systems. Well my My dad was a writer. Director actor producer Kind of freelance. His whole life and his passion was movies. And stuff like that. So you would take me to movie theaters instead of to the park to throw the ball And so he started to explain me. What good acting isn't what bad acting is. And why and the same thing with direct tangier. What is it producer doing. So i got interested in the in the business and then a friend of ours. My dad's age It was a neighbor. He was going to audition one day and he. He was outside how my dad washes car. My dad had his heads top off. Wash the car. The neighbor said i hate jason. Wanna come with me to this audition and just see how one goes. And i was like dad. Can guys like shirt. So i went reading for the role. The sun that day too So he gave me the sides that little piece of paper with dialogue on it and says go in there and make it look like you know what you're doing just if they say were you to sail. They must've missed. Put me on the list. So i went in there and i read this thing. I ended up getting it. So i said to my debts. Let's take some pictures. American cinema new and agent. And let's see i can. Maybe you know do some commercials and stuff makes a little bit of money by a bike so we did that. And then you know one commercial leads to a a a pilot edition or whatever and then just took off from there. Does it mile and your dad was supportive of that meaning. Of course he was in the business. As as i am as my mother was. She actually held kate back just because she didn't want her to be exposed to all of the bullshit at that young of an age..

"I heard you feeling hyundai. Yeah exactly finally great a dive. And then we have. They've sponsored our baseball and football games and i'm like brought to you by hyundai now. Honda set it. You just said hundai. Mispronounce corporations name on those billboards. Let's go to the fifth inning. And it's brought to you by. I used to say ati instead of audi and just like the whole world. It doesn't matter if you fuck up the score. It's a double not a home run. Joe don't if you mess up those hyundai there like hyundai like sunday. You know oliver said on dyson hyundai hyundai. They they are they are. They drill that into your early Now they've been really really nice to me and we'll give me shit on a was on conan. I think the other day and khan was talking about selling your voice. Gm doesn't jason bateman. He's like yeah. You know it's perfect. He's doing tonight a hyundai. You know it's like it's You know small small car and sensible reasonable. You know i do professional grade. Get she gets you there when he gets you there and probably for a cheap price not trying to get into you before we get into your life jason. I do want to say one of the things you mentioned. I brought up mushrooms earlier. You bring up. Conan have used. Did you see the appearance of bill. Burr on conan. Talking about being fifty plus. I know as the nas jason. He's like i'm over fifty. I've got two little kids. I didn't wanna die saying. I never did this stuff. I keep hearing about it so i took mushrooms not a lot in it. Felt like the. Tv was breathing in the wall was moving. That's about how far went. Never trip before blah blah blah. And i came out of it and i realized that i'm a guy. This is paraphrasing. But i'm a guy that just wants to be loved. I'm a helicopter pilot. do you love me. I'm a comedian. I'm the funniest guy in the room. Don't you love me. And i came out of it. He's like. I don't know why i've been such an asshole..

"Get along with. Listen i i joke. Because he both battled but And then our buddy is dab shepherd dax been making it hand over fist for a few. You're on my gun. About how loaded he is. And so i said i said well i wanna get some of that dax money. I'm doing whatever podcast with you. What i'm doing with you. There's no you're not. I said yes i am. It's going to be easy for you. Split the so And then i saw sean hayes at a dinner afterwards. And i told him that i that i crashed a wills or promised to and he said well i want to get on that too so i told we'll heads up. Shawn's come to sorry pal but doug his calls and then And then like the adults in our lives kind of got wind of it and they really encouraged us to do it and so we just did it and we decided to have it be an interview show and then i said woolley. I don't like to do a lot of worker. Prep or anything. So let's take turns inviting a guest and then the deal is you can't tell the other two guys who the guest is that they don't have to wrap so we'll just cries the other and that's as stupid and lo fi as it is and i can't believe people are still listening to it but yeah i know but but the problem is you're splitting it. Three ways now so that money is so far away. Yeah we'll keep your knees bent sean. Might not be with us very long. By the way fucking dax cashed in a man we katie. And i my sister and i did a podcast on the heels of that dance was making that kind of dough. And we're like. Let's try to get in on this game but that dude has just doing real. Well he's also dealing disney do two or three a week and then there two hours so he's just monetize ing the shit out of it but that sounds horrible. That's that sounds like a job. It well we all do is fun like i. I would call oliver. I do this clearly not for the money. We do this because we enjoy catching up once a week. And if you're that good friends with will and sean that part i would assume for somebody like you is successful as you are supersedes. Whatever you can make off it is it is. It's yes you're right up however this is also a good opportunity for us to talk to some of the people that we wouldn't necessarily get a chance to talk to unless we were at some. You know highbrow scientists convention or some stuffy hollywood award show or some this kind of I only get a chance to talk to my friends. Either on the golf course adopter. Full stop that's it. I mean i used to go a lot when i was a kid but now with life and kids as you guys know it's where do you get a chance to socialize and talk to your buddies so as you're saying you get to do it here with over but then you add somebody to it. Now you can ask questions with i don't know it just. It seemed to make sense and so far. It's it's still. It's still fun because only once a week. Why joked with oliver. That in this is the honest to gods truth..

"Today is the day. Sorry now i'm late and you have every reason to scream at me. We have movers actually in the house. So we are. Now is the time when old. Joey here had to go through the top drawer of my closet. We find some good stuff in there. I mean i think there was a latin american writer and author and i don't know his name who had a great quote and he said men have three lives. They have their public life. They have their private life. And they have their secret life. And i feel like in everybody's top-drawer of their dresser resides there secret life So i well cards. That are very valuable in there. I have my dad's old rolex in their eilly. Five hundred dollar. Bill signed by mark. Maguire when he hit home run number five hundred and then i have various other things that are in that drawer but that way so that yeah go ahead. Okay hold on a five hundred dollar bill. Yeah that actual currency that has did at some point so there was a five hundred dollar bill that was printed. Yeah it's crazy. My dad was big into like milestone dollar bill denominations so when maguire was going for five hundred he went to his bank and had them give him a five hundred dollar bill and then he had martin. I didn't do this i. My dad gave it to me along with his rolex a on his way out and he's made mark sign the five hundred dollar bill when he hit the day hit his five hundredth home run. Oh my gosh this is. I liked it and then what are the baseball cards that you have. That are valuable in that top four. So my agent. they're not really overly valuable. They're just kind of a guess nostalgic in a way that. There's an old baseball card of my dad that was made. There's a baseball card of from his mvp season. And i've done a million things with joe torry over the years. There's tim carver cards. There's a bob gibson. My agent will send me baseball cards from nineteen sixty nine the year. I was born from people that i've had kind of interactions with..

"You're all excited about the oscars this weekend and rotten tomatoes award senior editor. Jack cullen lee is here to fill us in on the three things you gotta know before you watch and i will say this. This woman has a ninety eight percent chance at predicting. What's going to happen on sunday. You gave us all the grammy's you gave it to his real. What's the first thing we have to know about the oscars for this beacon for the oscars. We definitely wanna talk about all of the historic first. That are possible for this weekend. I mean there are so many different books that we're excited about. But most importantly just the fact that all of the different nominees have this possibility of being first time winners and first time folks to sort of make different make a difference beal for the oscars this year. What are we the dress code the dress code. Because i know that they've been encouraged to show up in their oscar. Best are we going to see all kinds of glam or will people still be subdued and kind of respectful of the environment and feeling. Actually everyone has been required to dress of steven soderbergh. Who is actually producing. The show has said that they want everyone there. Statellite offices throughout the globe. Essentially telling folks show up in your finery london new york. La in poor downtown at union station. What you're trying to say is that jason davis will not be absolutely chasing today because will not be in a hoodie. You're going to have to do it. And no zooms. These are all going to be completely in okay now. I heard that the oscars this year is supposed to look like a giant movie. What does that even need. So as i said steven soderbergh who's producing the show famed director. He won for traffic and he said this is going to be a stenham matic experience though one of the things that the support him is the ability to shoot it like a bill. And it's going to have that old hollywood film and glam and they're still going to have great performances although there won't have it the way that they did before leslie odom junior and her all recorded their performances on the academy museum stage and they'll all be able to head back that way and show it on oscar night. Okay the.

"Female tendencies. Because i was raised by two three women in a house. If i'm feeling insecure about something. I need you to maybe post a photo just insecurity like i always say i'm like i just want people to know like i'm here. I'm here. I'm here my whole tag walking behind as your friend. I don't care. I'm feeling insecure about our relationship. And i need that as your partner. You give that to me. But i don't need you to give it to me every week. Also there's a difference between like being secure relationship and posting a photo and feeling that you need to keep up so that everyone knows everything's okay. That's something that becomes unhealthy in the relationship. And you're having a relationship for the public people before. I mean i've seen a picture and this is working and this is cool. We're not going to say who saw a lot of that. We are not going to say. We're going to talk about george clooney because his bad boy has hasn't been trouble with his wife. I'm always been catching up on old episodes era and she can't believe what a player he was. My wife has been very very disastrous thing for me because i forgot all of the all of the terrible things i did is garage. My wife keeps going. is that it. Are you done season. Three defining settled down with the nurse. Hathaway and i'm like yeah i think so. There's like disastrous for my marriage. By the way you know what it's like you know when you're out with your partner or with a boyfriend or a new relationship and you run into somebody who he seen naked and you can tell because there's like a little glimmer in. His eye is a little bit uncomfortable. Ness between the two people. I think watching this and she said you probably slept with this woman in a in a cloak closet. That is what he wanted. He wanted to say but he can't say that because he's the collar so at last count you did. How many seasons and had eighty seven love interest rate over that time. Plus you look like that right one hundred one hundred percent because you know that dude on set we can that was actually from the cast reunion or stars in the house. I love this. I love when they get the cast together again. Yeah it feels so good to watch this. And i'm so like it's crazy to me i love i love. Er are just. I love a george clooney on it next jersey shores. Running is in trouble with the law again. Then we're talking.

"And welcome to daily op. You guys. it's oscar weekend and we will be partying all weaking long here at ease especially on sunday so you do not want to miss it. But today we got the insiders guide on how to jennifer aniston. And you won't believe who it's frahm. Chris is out and joined by jody. Sweden and lily out of s. a and the producers thought action. My name in prompted. But i'm just ask right. You need intro you are. You are a man that needs no interest. Yes can we get that. Do because i really want to get to the conversation we were having right before the show starting to it so you want day jenner. Vannerson don't you well. Her ex. Justin theroux has some great tips. He told nbc's willie geist about some advice. He actually got from jason bateman that kept him sane during his brief but high profile marriage to jennifer aniston look in that side of the entertainment industry. A character is about to be born and that character is you. But it's not you that character. You know angry that character. It's got a problem that characters you know. Sweet it's just this little soap opera that gets written in the margins many said and so my advice is don't follow that guy. Storyline interesting true though. Very you know. I feel like anybody that dates jennifer aniston at this point. Like there's such a story and like created about them and it's it's like what i feel bad for like i feel so in some ways like anyone that's attached to her just absolutely ripped to shreds all one hundred percent but it's so interesting that he said that because i feel like he is completely correct. The media does paint this photo of you and this moody angry batboy right to say he played into it. He saw that they loved him in. Biker biker jacket on a motorcycle took they leather jacket off. Because i'm not gonna say that justin theroux wasn't a very successful guy. He was assessed writer. He was an actor. Had charlie's angels. But i think dating jennifer aniston bumped up to the next level of celebrity. And when you first get there you almost wanna take it all in and use it to your advantage. You've never gotten this much attention. And i feel like he kinda got lost in it a little bit. I mean i feel like how can you not like when the entire world is dissecting you and picking you apart like i. I'm sure it makes him question. Like like i this guy in the motorcycle jacket. I mean i'll try like we'll try them personas right like maybe it was like you. Only he was sort of you for sure. Play into that meredith. I think it's getting better. I think that social media. And i'm not saying that. He has social but i do think that celebrities are owning their narrative stronger now because now they have a direct line of communication to their fans and i will say that even as entertainment journalists sometimes we'll run a story we'll hear story but then celebrities will go on. I g lives and set the record straight from them and the fans like no. Y'all got it wrong. I just heard it from john. Aniston or my favorite celebrity that this is actually inaccurate. The one can we shut up. Jason bateman for that piece of advice and those words of wisdom like that genius more friends like jason bateman off. Don't give me advice did you just jason bateman this. Yeah yeah it's always omen when the friend says. Hey i've seen this happened five different times. Don't go down this road nine times out of ten. It's going to happen. I also don't take advice from from people's friends. Because i know what happens. They are still holding onto the baggage of that pass relations right whole different person. Okay bitsy i'm going to fight you on this. Because here's the thing i agree with you. I don't take advice from people that are in unsuccessful relationships whether that's money advice because they're very they've got debt they're in bad but jason bateman has been married for twenty plus years in hollywood which is some kind of record. I'm sure they're like an award for his marriage. So i feel like i don't want to take advice from people that are have been scorned interim bad relationships and repeat history all the time jason seems to have his head on straight he is in love with his wife. Talks about marriage and priorities. So he's someone i'm taking advice from. I agree with you. I don't want to take advice from people that are in negative relationships with their stuff on me jason bateman tired of meeting these dudes and seeing my friend go through the same thing over and over again with people. Now i'm looking at this conversation. And i'm thinking to myself you know. We all thought my god. They're broken up because he wanted to be in new york and she wanted to be in la and he didn't like the spotlight now. I think they broke up because he was one person. Walking into the relationship got a little bit of fame and she was like wait. I thought you were other guy over there. I like the west village. New york doesn't care about the shiny hollywood west of it. All right nice using the red carpet. He double pop the collar. He talked to everybody. The taylor swift thing happened. The media was like. Oh my god the villain the villain. The villain headline headline headline back. So he said. I'm just gonna play into it and dive into it right and you got lost in it. Well i. that's the same thing with hard when other people are telling your story and your narrative so much about like who you are. It can't help but like effect. You and i mean look i know that kanye has his struggles with all sorts of things so. I'm sure that that didn't help. Help but yeah i do. I do see that words. Like some i mean. I think we've all had to have more. You were like wait a minute. Who am i in the beginning. Now i don't know who you are did online has he. Randolph is finally breaking her silence about her ex boyfriend. Colton underwood coming out as gay. Here's what she had to say on her youtube wlac regarding the topic in the media that brought my name up. This week is one that you know that i'm not going to be further discussing or commenting on it for now. There's a lot of layers to it. And i just feel like the best thing for me at this. Time is to move forward. If i do decide in future to say anything anger with comment all you the first sound ladies if your ex came out as gay on gm a to the entire world is this how you would handle it. Go totally silent. You would have and he would make you'd say no comment. Yeah absolutely. I mean i for me personally. Like someone's coming out story is is such a big moment whether or not whatever and also like she had the worst break-up i mean when that kind of stuff happens you're like i don't Done not talking about it because it's just such a negative like even saying the person's name just is like what it feels so that i can see why she's like nothing you can see that in her body language you can see the facial expressions. She calls it the topic. She called it. The topic really traumatized by all. I was surprised because both her and colton has been so incredibly public about the good parts the relationship but also the demise of the relationship they do not hesitate to call each other out on stories. She's gone on with chris harrison and sat down to talk about the relationship so this is a very sharp left turn and departure from who she has been to the public about her relationship and everyone has the right to decide to be private about the details of their life whenever they choose..
Here are the 2020 Emmy Awards highlights
"So much nowadays traditional Glam, gathering of the EMMYS was shrunk down to a virtual version. This year, the winners had to dial in from their sofas but did to scale down show remove any of the fun while I'm joined by the phone critic Karen Cranach from welcome back Karen. Now, Jimmy Kimmel called this the pandemic. What was it like? You. Don't I was reading about the run up because of course, they had five days of the creative emmys, which was very interesting which covered documentarian sports things like that. We don't really get to see those its role waiting for the television ones television on comedy and they're all saying, oh, it's can be terrible to glitches and there were absolutely no. Glitches at all the writing was sensitive national it probably would have worked alive, and in fact, what they were doing is they were cutting back into the audience of previous years. So at first we thought Kimmel was presented to reluctance of couldn't be, and then of course, we see that it's an empty staple center with cardboard cutouts except one person Jason Bateman. It worked really really well, and as you said, he called the Pan Denny's. You can't have virus without a host modest M.. It. Last year it was host free. So he's making a double point there isn't he? Will he is I mean there is a discussion for all the wards shows that you know do we really need a host to carry through to give a a link King presents between all of the awards and sometimes you need that sometimes you don't, but he's very, very good in this effect was. Nominated himself didn't win but for for this year. So he solid reacted really well, and particularly with Jennifer Aniston was was there in I'm assuming was a prerecorded, extra it live. Where he's burning one of the emmy envelopes to sanitize it, and if the fire gets out of control, she actually does put put. The. Fire. Out on stage. Tell US little bit more than about. Who won who lost how things went? Arguably, this was possibly our final reminder. Some was that it was a blissful reminder of our recent past, but people could still make television in the same room. I think we're we're all I. Think we're we're going to get nostalgic about these virtual awards shows really because they could do so much more with with a with a regular live show somebody sends in a prerecorded or televisual link you feel cheated. Now you feel that you've got more possibility because the people can actually record something or talk to you live. So it Kinda works really well, for example, before I go to the awards there was almost apprentice reunion lease a Jennifer Aniston Courtney Cox and Lisa kudrow showed up altogether and Jimmy Kimmel's going what are you doing together and he goes she goes well, we've Jennifer says. We've been living together since nineteen ninety four. It was just a lovely surprised wouldn't have been able to happen in real life. So it was great now. watchmen with the big re reimagined science fiction. Series was for twenty six nominations at one eleven including UN series. Star. Regina. King and also best limited series which is amazing and that helped push the HBO show to Thirty Wins in total, which is very important and also Shits Creek, of course, we have to put little tm on there because it's spelled S. C. H. W. T. s. did a sweep a to record for comedy shows of nine wins and it was yeah it's it's incredible. It's last is the final. Season for that show and it was wonderful to see all of our beloved. Canadian actors. That was a hugely hugely popular series it turned up on flicks. But it didn't start with nets, which is weird. Yes it has found that second life. Elsa Bell Rutland. Well, it was really pop TV and it just it got a cult following because. I mean, these I've been watching Catherine O'Hara Levy since the seventies I mean they were at second city which the rivals Saturday night live we've seen them in American pie everywhere. These are very, very good season actors and writers and the fact that they show up with this unique show on pop TV it just goes to show you that if something's good against audience people will see
Hollywood not out of content, yet
"People are just trying to find new stuff Jason would get what can you recommend what's new what's happening yeah it is thankfully Hollywood is not out of content yet that might happen at some point as production is shut down but there's still stuff that was in the pipeline that is still coming out we found out today that killing eve which is a fantastic series on AMC and BBC America that's gonna move up a couple of weeks season three was gonna debut at the end of April that's not moved to April twelfth so you'll see that a little earlier there obviously capitalizing on the fact that people are at home and looking for stuff to watch and there's new stuff out today one of the biggest of the bunch I guess this season three of those are arc that's the critically acclaimed Netflix show starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney and great drama there about a couple who turn to crime in order to save their family kind of like breaking bad a little bit and some comparisons there this is season three seasons one and two I really enjoyed went through them pretty quickly it's been a while since we've seen the new season of this but now we have it in full today out on Netflix also out today there is a movie out there's there's a couple movies but one of them that was supposed to be out in theaters today the movie called banana split it's a coming of age romantic teen comedy very funny written by and starring somebody named Hannah marks who I think you're gonna hear a lot from in the coming years I think she's a very big up and coming star and she's great in this she wrote the movie she's very talented and you can rent that you have to pay for it but you can rent out wherever you rent your movies either on apple or Amazon or wherever there and then also if you're a fan of project runway the show that was on Bravo Bravo you know the fashion competition shouts Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn these that they laughed and the show still runs on Bravo but now IT crewmen Tim Gunn have teamed up together for a new show the team is very similar to project runway it's called making the cut and that's out today on Amazon prime you have two episodes that out today and then you have a couple more they're gonna come out
The Best Movie Soundtrack Songs Of 2019 | Movies
"I have a very special show today later. In this podcast I have an interview with Robbie Robertson one of the founding members of the band a significant figure in movie history as well. Who HAS COLLABORATED WITH? Martin Scorsese over the years. He has a new documentary that he participated in the basically tells the story of his life and the work of the band called. Once were brothers so I hope you'll stick around for that and inspired by that conversation. I had to invite on Ringer Staff Writer Rob Villa. Who is one of the funniest and smartest people I know about music? I Rob She's we'll thank you. It's an honor to be here of course alot rob you write about music and movies at the ringer as well and quite deftly and I think the use of music in movies has always been frankly an obsession of mine and I suspect that you are also a sophisticated thinker about this idea. Is that fair to say? Sophisticated is a strong word. But let's go with your role with your a guy who has a functioning brain that watches movies with music in them. Is that fair to say Aisha's? Amd during sonic the HEDGEHOG. That's the way I would describe my relationship with music and movies me I was that guy I feel like there's a lot we know there's a there's a conscientiousness about choosing songs in movies now because we grew up watching scorsese movies and then the movies of all the people who watched. Martin Scorsese movies and start making movies of their own and so the use of the pop song. We're not talking about score here. We're talking about pop music appearing in films you know what is your. What is your sense of? Who Does it well and sort of what goes into making a good choice for something that's really obvious or really obscure. I think the obviousness I see a lot more in prestige. Tv generally like that's the plate. Like any use of radiohead. Almost across the board. Like I I like a lot of Westworld but just the way that Westworld is uses those pop songs you know the old style piano version of pop songs. It's just you're just sort of leaching off that songs energy like the the cash that it already has and you're just sort of stealing and implanting it into your TV show or your movie like it's there's a difference between stealing a song soul and like taking a song and building a new universe around it like sort of recreating it in re-energizing it it's a it's a great point. I'll never forget the moment I watched the pilot of Ozark. Which is the last the last episode of ours. Ozark that I've ever watched and at the end of it Decks dark by radiohead began playing and I was like. Oh this is that JOE now. I mean no disrespect to say Chris Ryan. Who's a huge fan of that series but actually that choice indicated to me what the creators of the show thought they were doing and it wasn't for me you know it just didn't Didn't click with what despite liking radiohead and Jason Bateman and. I knew that there was a pretentiousness that I was not going to connect with their What do you think makes for a good song choice in a movie? I think it has to be at least a little unexpected. It has to re- contextual. Is it a little bit like I? There are instances where obviousness is what you need and I think there are a few of those and my list here but I I think. In general you need some element of surprise some just more gratuitous are just more surprising way of using it than what you would expect. Do you think it's important to saying something about character or the scene itself or because one of the things that that Robertson said when he and I talked which I thought was interesting was the he really likes the contrast he moments. That's the moment when you take a very sweet song. Said it against a very violent moment or you take a very sweet moment and give it something more braces and that's obviously a hallmark of a lot of the people that are best known for choosing songs and movies you know. Think of Quentin Tarantino or fincher. Scorsese are all these people that I talk about endlessly on this show. Do you think that the that music can play such a profound role in telling a story in that way? I think so. I mean you can go too far in that the phenomenon of every movie trailer now using like a really slow down creepy version of a pop song like you think. Fight THE FI. The fifty shades of grey beyond say series. You know like I suicide squad. I think did that. You know you can go too far in that direction and and just use it entirely as irony like. Here's a really sweet song to contrast with an ugly thing. But Yeah I mean. That's that's sort of an overused tropes at this point at the time in the heyday in the early reign of those people those directors like. Yeah that was a really effective use of contrast. So we're here to do a top five list. You'RE GONNA share your five favorite needle drops in movies and I'M GONNA share my five favorite needle drops. Now I don't know your picks and you don't know my picks you almost ruined this podcast by accidentally sharing those picks and I would like you. I'm I apologize profusely and I apologize for my choices. I think this is going to be yelling at me in the next twenty minutes. That's my concern. You know what my concern is is just being too basic right. There are some things that are sort of undeniably signature moments in movies and music especially in the last twenty to twenty five years when when I think this phenomenon has really picked up. Steam and my choices are not songs that were written for movies. They are entirely songs that had previously existed before the film came along. Is that true for you too? I think in all but one case my number five. That's not true but I think that's an important thing that you have to have a prior.
