Being able to start their own businesses who able to maybe otherwise advisor just makes them makes it easy to stay home. How important for you to have your own thing so important really as you know when I first got with Jason I was like you know I'm a workaholic? I really am and I'd like to have my own people win and know that about you. I've always worked three jobs because I like to pay for my own things. I uh worked my way through college. I went out of state and paid hundred grand for college and I did it and I just paid off my student loans by myself. She wouldn't let me play. But here's what also we first met. We would like I duNno like get go to dinner like whatever yeah and and it was like you know I would get up to go to the bathroom or something and come back and she would have like already paid for our meal like she was adamant about that stuff. Even that for you though because wouldn't most girl just be like. Oh the Jason. How Dean cool is kind of annoying to grab took you to dinner because I want to go to the bathroom and you're GONNA pay? Yeah I just. I'm not the kind of person to say. Hey you know. Can I borrow twenty bucks to go right. There is no. That'd be torture for me. Yeah I mean I refuse and like when it's Christmas this time. I want to buy him something with my money. And I'm I just I love to work and I love to feel like I have my own and I always say this like in. He knows this I want. I want to be with you but I don't need to be with you. Never think that like I'm here for the wrong reasons because that is not the case and so I have built my own separate deal and it's so gratifying for me and I feel like it helps for you to have your own sense of independence in the relationship to on somebody financially eventually. Such a weird dynamic and you know there's obviously circumstances with people who duchess how it has to be in. That's fine but for me. Personally I'm going to. What do what I can to make my own? Yeah I love that about you guys can check it all out at Britney al-Deen obviously have at Jason Aldean on instagram. Or you can go see a show shower all the things. Thank you so much for being here. "This is like a negative to like. This is really not a big deal that you Making it like we've had some like problems. This dog respectively. It's good for me and then there's sometimes sometimes I feel like I don't know what does she bring to you Jason. No were the thing I think with me is like you know I was always instill kind of am and a lot ways but really private very private person and just feel like I played shows and things people saw so when I was in public or interviews or something that was kind of their thing and then when I was away from all that my time was kinda motto and it was just my way of kind of separate and and all that stuff and cutting it off. Yeah so I was just kind of always like that. You know with her. I think she's done really good at Sorta show me a different side of that kind of helping me come out of that a little bit and be more willing to like share you know personalized stuff with with people whether it be on social media they are just whatever our menu had like this great personality. But you don't really let people see it. You know your man. Yeah and you you know and so I think for me. She was good in a sense of like. Hey you know it'll be great for you to for people to see this other side. They never get to see that. It's part of the reason that it you know attract whatever and it's like nobody gets to see that stuff so that things like that I think is where she's going to help me SORTA come out rush. Shell a little bit as far as that goes not not be so protective of of my personal life and personal. Tom and things like that. Because you know it's just it's weird because when you would like for me when my career hit all the sudden it was like everything you did was under the microscope microscope. And and people will be judged everything you did and they wanted to know everything that was going on and I've just never I was never wired like that in the beginning you know and for me it was like this is what I do and and I enjoy it but when I'm done you know are kind of just kind of shut all that stuff off. It was just a way for me to cut it off in a separate the two a little bit and You know and she kind of helped to to kind of opened my eyes to the fact that people are you know really into you know a lot of people whether some of them may be negative but a lot of people for for good reasons or just interested in you know in in your personal life and it kind of lets them see sodomy automate that they probably didn't get a chance to see before so. I think that was good. Don't you think it's a way to connect with people too. Because you're I mean even stuff you guys have gone through is what a lot of people go through or just surprise. Actually our situation that happened obviously together so many people would write to me or come out of the woodworks and say you know I've been anthem something similar but even knows and yeah. It's such a struggle from your was or you know I I've been through similar situations or or whatever and you would actually be shocked at how many people are just in internal battles and stuff with themselves and they don't even speak on it for us. You know I mean I remember saying this one point you know I mean stuff like that. It's tough to go through anyway.

You know what I was thinking about whenever I started thinking about doing a podcast with you was just how wrong ahead you when I first met you. Yeah I mean I mean we really do this morning we were talking. It's just like we really are like best friends. Everything together and and you know and I mean I get how people probably took that up. Ah The beginning you know. probably wasn't the best. Look for either one of us but you know at the end of the day. It's like you know we. We knew there was something. Yeah something that was pretty undeniable there and and I don't know it's been like I think we both kind of probably hated the way it started but you know at the end of the day like I wouldn't change the outcome of it at all thing. You're like me and I would change so many things but then yeah I because what if it didn't turn out the way we wouldn't be where you are exactly so obviously I mean both of us feel this way we would have done things completely differently. However we're very happy that the outcome is what it is and.

"What's going on guys. It's Willie Geist back with another edition of the Sunday sit podcast. Thank you so much for quicken. Got a good one for today. One of the biggest stars in all of music matches country music. I'm talking about all these Jason aldean's. He was here in New York City for a sold out show and Madison Square Garden, and we got together before the show. We sat in the arena and we went a little backstage with them. I think you're gonna like our conversation, man, his album. This new one rear view town newish last couple of months when it hit number one on the overall chart, not the country chart the overall chart. It was the fourth time in a row that he had done that. So he is kind of transcended at this point country music, he knocked Cardi b. out of the top spot just to put it in some perspective, he's got twenty. Number one. Singles he's done songs with ludicrous. He's unsought with Kelly Clarkson, and of course he's done songs that are cord. His country sound from Macon. Georgia, you'll hear about his journey. He was like so many. These men and women in this business that I talked to, whether they're movie stars or musicians, they get this close to given up on it and then something intervenes and the rest becomes history. He, of course, and we get into this a bunch. You'll here in just a minute was on stage last year in October in Las Vegas at the outdoor music festival. When a man began to reign shots down from a hotel room into a crowd, killing fifty, eight people wounding almost a thousand more just country music fans out to watch his show, and Jason l. dean was the guy up on stage when it started to hear him. Talk about that day, what it's been like to live with that after how he pays tribute to the victims, how he visits them. He's going to be back in Las Vegas next month doing a show. He talks about what that will be like. And he talks about having that as just part of his bio how people remember him. Nothing. Obviously he could have ever predicted and certainly never anything he would have asked for, but he knows it's part of who he is now, a great conversation. With as I say, one of the biggest stars in all of music, Jason eldeen right now on the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks for doing this shit. We're talking a minute ago about driving down seventh avenue as I was a few minutes ago, looking up at the marquee for Madison Square Garden, seeing Jason aldean's sold out tonight. What does that feel like to you? It's it's amazing. I mean, you know, we're talking earlier. I think for the longest time it was a little stigma in national about play in New York because there wasn't a country music radio station here. And I think you know it kind of had this thing where people were little nervous to come here and play and to be able to come here now and not only command place show come here to Madison Square Garden. One of the most, you know, conic buildings that that we can play and to sell it out. I mean that that means a lot to me for sure. Yeah, you walk through the hallway down here and you see pictures of Elvis and Elton, John and the Rolling Stones in the nineteen seventies must be crazy. Thing for a guy from Macon Georgia. Learn how to play the tar and his dad's living room. Yeah, it is. I mean, you know everything. That's what happened for me over the years has been, you know, beyond anything that I could have ever dreamed up, you know, I mean, when this all started out learned to play guitar and you know, because I wanted to sing with my dad and my uncle, you know, they used to get in the living room and you know, sing together, and I thought it was cool when wanted to sing with them, and that was kind of how it started. And it went from there to, you know, just, you know, wanting to get on stage and and and then once started playing music and realizing that I liked it and I enjoyed it. It was like, all right. Will this'll be cool hobby? And then it was like, well, maybe I could make live and then for that to turn into what it has, it's been like, unbelie-. How do you out for country music blowing up to a point where you can sell this building out and loot come in and sell building out and men and women from all over your your John can sell it out. 'cause it's happened. Relatively recently. I mean, I think it's fans. I mean, that's what boils down to country music fans in in my opinion or or some of the most loyal rabid fans there are and, and I've always said, you know, when a country music fan when they fund an artist, they like, you know, I, it's not like a lot of different John where you know somebody'll get hot for minute and people that artist, and then they can't move onto the next thing when it gets hot country music fans, they find an artist, they like, and you know they latch on and sort of hang on for the ride for for that whole career that artists. And you know, and I think that's that's the difference in country music to me and we see it every night. I mean, I see people now at my shows that I saw back in two thousand five. And we were just getting started playing clubs, you know, and they've been coming every single year and you know, and I think that's a difference. You know, it's your album, your current river town, which touring. To support right now went to number one, not just on the country chart, but again for the fourth time number one, overall on the billboard chart to see you up there with Cardi b. and Drake and knocking them off from their number one albums. That's kind of also be crazy thing where you're not just the best and your John returns and sales, but in all of music. Yeah. I mean, I think you know, I mean, I don't know anybody else looks at this, but for me, I mean, if you're gonna do do something. I mean, I think you wanna be the best you could possibly be at it. You know that being said, I mean, we record albums and put them out. You know, obviously, I want them to do well and, and you know, there's a lot of, you know, there's a lot of other artists out there right now. A lot of competition out there as far as fighting for, you know, chart positions and all those kind of things. And so I think it's it's somewhat a little bit out of your control, you know. But I think I'm firm believer in if you go in and you put out a great album, great songs and all those kind of things. Everything. Else kind of takes care of itself, you know, and you know, and took country music up against anything. I mean, Rb hip hop pop, whatever you wanna put it up against. I mean, I think that you know, we just as much heat and country music as far as you know, cylinder records and things like that is is anybody. So let's talk about the new album. Well, newish album. What did you want to do on rear view? Because I read some interesting interviews where you said you went back and looked at the last couple of albums, and they did well and you liked them, but you felt like maybe kind of complacent at certain points. I mean, I think with review town. I mean, it was our are eight thousand and and so I went back and looked at the two previous albums, and and even though there was some things on their thought really cool and some great songs, just the album as a whole felt like sorta. I don't know. I just feel like didn't feel like I had sort of pushed myself that hard. You know we're on on the previous albums. We were really kind of trying new things and and. I don't know, just kind of going down different avenues that hadn't really been gone now before, you know, we were sort of trailblazing trailblazing for country music, you know? And I felt like on these last couple hours, I don't know. I just felt like I kind of started to play it safe a little bit and really didn't pay attention to those things. And so this hour them, you know, it was back to more focus on that and and really, you know, paying attention to detail and and mcchord great songs number one. And you know, I think for me a lot of times, people are useless coming out with these real uptempo. You know this, this hybrid of country and southern rock and Ronal, and and so to go back and really drop some really old school traditional country songs on them on this record to me was school. You know, it's like this vintage sound that that we've done a little bit in the past, but not not like this and and the lead single you make it easy being, you know, having a little bit more blues Bob. You know. So to me, it was just paying more attention to those things and and and me not feel like man, this record sounds just like the last two records we might, you know, and, and you know, and I think when you do that and you pay attention for me getting focused on that, you know, obviously when the comes out you can see the the reactions different, you know, people are interested in and it just gets a completely different reaction than than an album. That's just it's good, but it's not game changing, you know. And so and I think artist, I mean, every album you put out, you wanted to be a game changer. You know, you wanna feel like you're, you're move forward and try new things and and. You know, I don't know. I just didn't feel like we had done that with these previous two albums up until this. We talked about the expansion country music where you can sell out of place like this and other artists, and you get a lot of credit for that. When you ask people doing collaborations with ludicrous or Kelly Clarkson or whatever it is, is that something you think about strategically as an artist, how can I grow my audience by doing a
