"Maybe you need a little help making it out of one or two. Yeah, they were like, I could count on one hand that she maybe used it. And I would always be like, it's free information. You can take it. Use it. You can throw it away, let it go in one ear out the other, but it's free information. You know, they got away with that, which the encore coaching, which I think was probably a good thing just because you're trying to have a good conversation with your player and here they got you mic'd up. Your own TV, your players frustrated. They probably want to cost at you or what's going on. And it's on TV and you can't have a real conversation with your player. So it's probably good they got rid of that and now you can pretty much coach. You can say stuff from the sides, but it still isn't that like, okay, here we got to do this a little more in that little more and have a nice conversation. So, but yeah, she didn't use it too much. It was more like, I'm gonna do this my way, and I'm gonna win my way, and if I lose, you know. I still. It's still my fault. You gotta take the, yeah, for sure. You take the loss. That's right. Well, this has been great. I mean, honestly, we get a chat, chance to chat all the time, but it was great to have you on the show. I appreciate you, good luck with your player, except on the days you play us. I think he owed me a drink. That's right. I think you got me a drink from Miami. I do, I do. I did. So dinner's on you. All right. Anytime. Thank you brother. All right, thank you..

"Welcome to the tennis dot com podcast. I'm your host Kamal Murray, and we are here with the man, the myth, the legend, David wick. How you doing? Good, brother. Thanks for coming on. Absolutely. So you wanted the guys that when I look in your eyes, either after a win or after a loss on my side, I know you know what I'm filming. We're thinking the same thing. Are they the same thing? We can't say it out loud, but we're thinking the same thing. And then we see each other at the bar and it's like, you know, holy, you know? Yeah. It's just sharing each other's pain. So as you have the chance to work alongside Richard Williams and be coaching over multiple decades. So since this is the year of king Richard, what was it like to work along sir Richard? 'cause you know, you got famous tennis parents, big personalities, you know, you got coco's dad now, you got vintage dad, you got a bunch of parents. What was Richard like to work alongside? He was great. I mean, we always got along. He was respectful, you know, we kind of both did our own thing, but you know, he was funny. I mean, I heard stories that, you know, he'd tell me just every day waking up, he'd be tired and this and that, but he'd only have a story and, you know, just being at the tournament, just seeing how he was a superstar, you know? People want his autograph and be talking to people and super nice around the course and everything, but it was fun. Did he let you drive the ship? Or was he kind of like the captain and you were like, hey, by the way, we should be thinking about this. You know, I'm not really one that needs to drive this ship, you know? It's just like kind of laid back and you know, I throw my two cents in there here and there and you know, I always see myself as a coach. So I was hitting for X amount of years and kind of throwing my two sons in and he was kind of running the ship and we're gonna do this drill and we're gonna do that drill and then everyone's well, Venus is like, I don't wanna do that drill and I'm like, all right, I guess we're not doing that drill. You know, but you know, I think it kind of eventually got to the point where, you know, he wasn't traveling as much and I kind of took more of a roll of that coach and taken over practices and stuff. But yeah, it was good stuff. Now I've had opportunity to coach a plan when she was 22 and now she's 29, right? And it's very different. 22, you're kind of like dictating a little bit, right, driving the bus and out of 29, it's like, okay, what time do you want to practice? Is that sort of similar to how you do it, man? Because last couple of years, you already get the Venus thing like, oh, she just floating. She was just doing her thing. I think it's, yeah, definitely when they're younger, you're kind of like, okay, we need to do this. We need to hit twice. We need to work on this. And then it turns into like, you know, do you want to hit twice? Do you want to, you know, they're driving you're kind of like, this is what we should do, you know, and you kind of get the answer pretty quick or you get a stare, and okay, we're not going to do that. So, but it's definitely changed, you know? Working now working with Jessica, the gula and it's changed. I mean, she's hard worker, young, has got that, you know, she's got a little, you know, she's had some success, so she's been there and now she's hungry. She's even hungrier because she's gotten a little piece of that went in tournament and doing well. So it's kind of different, yeah. Yeah, when they listen, they have success and they start listening more. Yeah, it's kind of like when I want to lose weight is it doesn't matter what it is I'm doing if I lose my first 5, ten pounds, I want to keep doing that. Whether that was the right thing to do or not. But yeah, Jessica's great. So how'd that come about? 'cause you know, when I travel on tour, my wife gives me tons of stuff, right? At home with the kids, you're out there living your best life, and I always say, it's not quite living my best life. It's like 24/7 work, right? Yeah. So, you know, you start with Venus. I'm like, okay, David's gonna finally be able to sit at home and chill and relax. And then you pop that guy again. Was that a decision? I was like, eh, maybe I want to stay home for a little bit. I did for like four months and then it's like, I think it's kind of time to get a job, you know? You need to start getting on the road again. But, you know, my kids were younger than, so it was tough for to travel. And now, you know, instead of, hey, when are you coming home? They're still asking for that, you know, the money. They just want the money now. It's a little easier to travel, but it was funny because all your friends would always be like, it's like you're living a dream. You're living the party as party on the road all the time and I'm like, man, it's not like that, okay? We go to the courts. It's like Groundhog Day every day. You're waking up to hits and by the time it's 6, 7 o'clock, you're tired, you just want to get some dinner and wake up and do it again. So what about Jess made you come out, right? Because for me, it was like, I was at home. I was like, yeah, if I go back out, it'd have to be a special opportunity. Or the same person. Right. I think, you know, being away, I kind of got hungry again. I wanted to kind of get somebody young, you know, that was going to kind of be that sponge that wanted to learn. And we could kind of learn together and talk it over, but I think I got a call from somebody that worked for her family, you know, I haven't talked to in 25 years. And I don't even go on Facebook and he Facebook messaged me and said, you know, what are you doing? And I'm like, well, I'm kind of looking for a job and he was like, you want to come down and kind of do like a little child thing. Went down and the chemistry, we got along, you know, it was too weak and it just clicked, you know? And I thought she worked hard. I thought she had potential. And that kind of made me hungry. It made me motivate it and wanted to do it. I always laugh at when it's a trial, 'cause the player thinks it's a trial, and the coach is also like, I'm trying it out too. See if I can get it. You're just praying they win a few matches during that trial. Right, right. Because you're negotiating power, all right? Right. If they lose a few matches, it's probably not going to go. That's right. So you've had the opportunity to coach in two decades, right? Early 2000 teens and now 2022. What do you think the difference is if there is a difference between then and now? The depth is, I think, a lot stronger girls are stronger, you know, hitting the ball harder. That's for sure. You know, there's not many easy first round matches. I mean, you got to come to play and if you're not feeling great, you're not ready to play. You know, you might be going home the next day. And I think back, you know, back then, it was, you know, Venus and Serena was they were so dominant. It was like, you didn't even have to worry to the quarterfinals. And it got tougher and tougher and tougher over the last ten years. And I just think it's now it's like, you've got to come and play your best tennis right away first round. I mean, they're like bigger, stronger, faster, hitting the ball, big. And I think as a coach, one of the disadvantages to a seasoned player is the younger players are better earlier in the process and have played fewer matches on like, let's say, Hawkeye court. Sure. So it's much harder to scout. Right. A young player. And they're fearless. And they're fearless. And your player's old veteran and scared to death to be the one to lose to this low key. I haven't seen this player, you know what? And you know, that's when we got to come up with some type of game plan. Hopefully it works and look over. You told me to do this and it's not working. They're backhands better, but probably the fearless part of it. You know, you get the young girls that come out there and they're in good shape. They're strong and they're just, they have nothing to work. They're just, they're rankings not up there, so they're not worried about defending points and winning. So they're just cracking the ball. Going for crazy on, you know, unrealistic shots and they're making them and, you know, that's what can make them dangerous. And players are gonna shoot like, you didn't tell me she could do that. I'm like, eh, she's gonna make that two out of ten times. It's not like something I would write on a scouting report. Exactly. So I noticed that Venus, when they could have encore coaching, she never used it. Now, what was that? What was that decision like? Did you say, hey, Venus? You know, some of these matches get a little tougher. We're getting a little older..

"Room. I want to treat myself. I think to live alone to rent a house. Yeah, because I wouldn't go before. When I was 22, I love to have my house. But I wasn't sure I am going to make it with money, you know? But when I get into the top hundred, I decide to, yeah, I can have a house. I can rent a house. And now I have a better house that when I was through. But yeah, I think that's that was the first important thing that I invest on. So it wasn't like a Gucci bag. Yeah, I mean, yes, I have both, if I'm back. But for me, it was more important the house, yeah. So we talked about what it was when it was like, you know, when you were outside of the top hundred. And when you look at Italian tennis players, now there's so many. You got center, Barry tini, yourselves, Trevor design. I mean, bronzetti is so many people. So what happened where there's like all of a sudden this Italian explosion? Was there like a pathway that they found you guys at 6 years old and put you all on? Was it they gave you all money when you were outside of a hundred to support your training your travel? What happened? Yeah, I think the federation always support us, you know, we play fed cup and they support us and yeah, I think they did a great job, especially with the man's, yeah, they are really, yeah, they are like ten, I don't know in the top hundred, maybe now not ten, but still they are many. And they played really good with the woman, we had very good players like schiaparelli, but when they retired, nobody was in the top hundred, maybe just Georgie. And I think for me, Travis and wasn't easy to get into the top hundred because just one player was there. And I think was a little bit tough, but now I think we are in a good position. We are in the top hundred and I think coach. She's a young player, but she has just a surgery in the knee, but she was already a 130. So I think she's going to be back in top hundred soon. So I think now we can do really great results. Yeah. So you talked about how you were earlier in the career you were kind of unsure, right? Yeah. So he was saving money right now. Right? So tell me about your first big win. And then I'm going to ask you about the first match where you kind of got your ass kicked and you were like, oh my goodness, I don't know if I'm ready. Yeah. I think for me, it was really important the match with other anchor in U.S. open. I lost that match, but actually it was the first match that I played really good on hard courts. I lost that match, but I felt very good on court, you know? And then after the U.S. open, I played Porto roza 250, and I wanted tournament. Yeah, for me, it was a really important period, you know? Because I felt that my level was good. Actually, and yeah, because I think a person that has to be sure about her level, you know? I have to be sure about my level. And then when I'm sure I kind of, I feel that this level is mine that I have. I need to be sure. If not, I'm going up and down, up and down. So tell me about a match where you were starting your career and you played and you were like, oh my God. That's like a different I didn't expect that. That's like made you a question. Tell me about that. Everyone has like that match was like, oh my God, this person just like killed me. So many. So many. I remember, actually, with iga shrimp tech in Prague was a, I think, 80,000 or 60,000. But I don't know. She won just Wimbledon junior in that time. And yeah, I was impressed because she was hitting the ball hard and early and I was like, Mamma Mia!, she's so strong. And she's just a kid, right? Yeah. She was just a kid. And I was impressed. I was impressed. But now we know why I was impressed. I don't feel so bad anymore. She became the one in the world. Yeah. So let's pretend that they may mix doubles of thing at like, you know, Indian Wells, Miami, some of the bigger events outside of the grand slams. Who would be your dream mixed doubles partner. But you can't say Rafa. Roger and Djokovic. Somebody else. I don't know. I don't know, maybe I may be seen there. Yeah. He's going to serve faster than return fast. Yeah, but I don't know. I would love to play with all the Italian guys. They are funny, funny guys, good guys, they pay very well. So I think it's going to be nice that was. But maybe it's going to be also the funny doubles with the backup. Yeah. I was so sure. You won't have to Molly because the ball won't come back, right? Yeah. Yeah. The girls are at the end of like, please don't make their turn. Please don't hit the ball to me. I don't want to violate. So Parker, it won't come back. With senator Baldwin come back, you need to use the surface big. Yeah. He's so tough. And you're right, like in the mixed doubles. You need the guy to take the edge off. And let you know, it's okay if you miss. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I need this. It's not. I'm getting nervous, you know? And you're sweating, you know? Yeah. Well, it was finally nice to hear your voice. I always talk about how I see you and you say hello with your eyes. And you lost your breath. So it was nice to hear your voice. So now I expect to like when I walk past you, you can say, hi. See, I'm going to say hello. Hi. Well, this has been a tennis dot com podcast. I'm your host. We have been with Jasmine Peele. A rising star on the WTA Tour. Thank you, bye bye. "And what do we see last week? We saw the young boy, carlito, Al carrez. Take out two of the big three and Rafa and Djokovic. And one of the next three in zverev, on his way to winning a title in Madrid. We have not seen that often. And if that's a sign of things to come, this young boy is about to dominate the tour. And make a ton of cash. We saw as jabour continued to show that she is worthy of a top ten ranking, continuing to blaze a trail for her country. Use her variety to hide some of the potential holes in her game and drive people crazy. I mean, when you think about what makes her special, she makes you play the entire court. Not just the backcourt, but also the front court. Congratulations to aunts. This week, we're in Rome. And fittingly, we got a chance to sit down with Jasmine peeling. A hometown girl. Main draw Rome this year. Let's see how she does. She talks about her journey, talks about her nationality. Talks about her role to tennis. And it's one we always hear. It's really an online story. Welcome to the dot com podcast. I'm your host Kamala Murray, and we are here with a lot of people's favorite player that you don't know and I won't name them, but whoever listens to this, they're gonna know. That's my favorite player. Jasmine pelini from Italy. Yes. So the first time I saw you, I was looking at you and I was like, she's not Italian, she's black. Like the hair, the eyes, everything. They were like, ah, I think she's got some black roots in her. So tell me about your roots and where you come from. My dad is Italian, actually, but my mom is half Polish and all from alpha from Ghana. So yeah, I'm like, yeah, you can see from my hair that they are very difficult to. Straighten. Yes, so tough. And I have a brother, his more black than me. I'm actually white person. He would like to be more like more like you. You know, I'm too high. So in America, we call it red bone. So my wife is a red bone. She's like a mix between black and Hispanic. And then she's like, you're exact same question. Yeah? Well, you know, there's like a section of people that like red bones, right? You know what I mean? That's what we call it. So your brother's more brown skin. Yeah, yeah. And I like his skin. His tennis player? Yeah, yeah, he played ten is back. He's relaxing your own. He just playing tennis, but just enjoying. So he's not good. No, no. His boo. He can play with me. He can practice with me. But I'm not going to, I'm not going to think he's going to play professional, you know? He's just enjoying. But now that it's your top 50 and you're making lots of money. Now you can hire him as a hitting partner. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I could do this. Maybe when he finished the school, we are going to I'm going to pay him. Because I think he is not going to come for free. And you probably pay him anyway, 'cause I'm sure he calls you and says, hey, sis, can you pay my cell phone bill? Or can you send me some money for food in college? Do you get those calls yet? Yeah, he asked me it was always present, you know? Can you buy please me an iPhone? Can you do this? Can you do that? But I love him so for me it's just nice to do present to him. Yeah. So let me ask you because you have watched you sort of kind of go up with the ranks, even before COVID, you're ranking like slowly increase and you know, I always tell people like first you get to like one O 6 in the world, then you're like, okay, I can't wait till I get the top hundred. Then you get the top 75 and then you get the top 50. And when you get to top 50, like everything improved, that's why I said now you can pay your brother. So tell me about those levels. Tell me about your experience of getting to those different levels. Yeah, at the beginning when I entered in top hundred was tough for me because I believed that I could play in top hundred but not really. Sometimes I believe this sometimes no. But then I started to work with video analysis coach. To improve the articles game because I was playing good on clay courts, but I was doing bad on articles. And most of the tournaments are on hardcore. So I couldn't do many points. On the arcuate and was tough to increase the ranking. And yeah, I work with this with analysis last year. And from that, I think I believe more in myself on the art course. And I think that was the change to get into the top 15. And yeah, now it's easier because you are a main role most of the tournaments with good prize money and yeah, it's easier and finer also. So I always try to ask people like, so what changed, right? Because at one O 6 or like outside of top hundred or sharing rooms, we're like eating at the site at dinner, we're not like, you know, looking for fancy restaurants. So what changed? And then you see the teams get better. So if you're like below a hundred, maybe you don't have a physio and a trainer and a coach, right? Too many people. Now when you get top 50, we start to see moms and dads show up. The brothers come. The coach, the physio, and I was like, 8 people, like, it's a big party. So what was the difference in like now where you are versus when you were below a hundred? Yeah, of course you try to invest more in your team. But I think I also before when I was hundred and 1006 under I don't know. I was trying to do things good. So I was traveling always with fitness coach and the coach, most of the times. But yeah, probably you know that you earn more money, so maybe you are more relaxed, you know, to choose the restaurant or choose the hotel. Yeah, sometimes maybe fly in business, but yeah, I don't do this often because I'm sure with COVID the planes are always empty. So you can relax. I'm sure it's fine also in economy for me. I prefer to spend money in other ways. Instead of business class, but sometimes it's important also to travel travel good to be ready at the tournament and compete well. So some people have a rules. I know some guys are like, okay. If I make it to the semis, we all fly business or first class. So, you know, maybe you got to come up with a rule. I don't care if you get to the semis, then you get to fly business. My coach told me this yesterday. He told me, oh, if you do say miss, you can fly back in business. And I say, okay, I don't know. Or maybe I save the money and buy a purse. Yeah, I prefer you. I think I'm money saver person. Because you never know it's better to save money and then you can spend money. So let me ask you. So when you started making it, you start feeling comfortable. Yeah. What was the first kind of big purchase you made? We were like, okay, I think I have a little breathing.

No Challenges Remaining

"For your sort of more international perspective, like what you make of Fritz and I guess of the sort of generation of him. I mean, he's in a generation with a with Charlie Paul, the three of them are very close buddies. And then I'll tell us also in that group age range wise, chance and brooksby, fascinates many people as a player. Now, what do you make as someone who's not invested in American men's tennis as a Dutch tennis reporter? What do you make of well of this group? I'm invested in tennis in general. So automatically, I've also invested in the players on the tour. And there's many Americans, as you said, if you look at that group that you mentioned, I think actually that Fritz out of those is maybe the one with the least of a profile for some reason because Opel like recently has come out with all these statements and all these thoughts that he has, TFO has been a very charismatic character for a longer time, I feel. Fritz, I don't know. Actually, he doesn't really have a profile I feel here in Europe. At all. So for him to be the first one I guess to break through, make sense as well because he's been playing so well. Like everyone who's been watching and following the tour for the past 6 months would have seen how well he's playing. So it made sense in a way that the breakthrough was upon us. But yeah, I think American men's tennis in general, the European view is big servers, big forehand, poor backend, that's kind of the cliche that lives on. I mean, if we take Fritz all those things don't really apply because he has a very good backend, for example, he has a great serve and a great forehand as well, but it's a little bit shifting, I feel like the American men are playing a mole all around game that they are giving credit for. Certainly someone like brooksbank is completely modifying and that was very funny actually. Did you hear Rafa about the American men? He was asked about this impress and to actually the same question you were asking me now was asked to Rafa and he was quite detailed and yet this little segment in his answer talking about brooksby about how much he likes his game and how much he expects and the unorthodox style that he has and doing difficult things easily and you should read it up. It's very funny and it's very funny to hear Rafa talk about brooksby in detail like that. Yeah, I think it's a lot of the people who have seen Brooks VR fascinated by Brooks V I think if anyone who has pretty much and Riley pocket talks about his fascination just a huge brooksby fan, Stan, even a frisbee and he is obsessed with him and thinks he's great and try and sing at all these wonderful things and he had became the most the most wonderful brand a moment of the tournament out of nowhere. Jasmine paolini, who had been arena sabalenka in the second round, one of the bigger women stuff since the tournament said, it's like brook speed once said or something about it at some point, just trying to get the ball back and brook speeds influences it's known. And it's an interesting, interesting character for sure. Yeah, but Taylor Fritz, yeah, you're right. He doesn't have the sort of game no one ever described to scan as one dimensional. I think he's actually a very pretty player to watch in a lot of ways aesthetically. I think his strokes are pretty nice looking, almost reminds me a bit of a burdick maybe in some ways, not quite not the same build necessarily, but like something about just being clean off the ground. You know, sort of easy power for the most part. I think it's back end is really wonderful. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Both as parents for tennis players. It's raised from a young age, doing that. And yeah, he has a game that lights up well. And he's high ambitions for himself this year as well. I interviewed him in Australia. And he said his goal was to be top ten for the year, and that obviously has helped massively. If I winning Indian well. So on days for sure. Yeah. He's up to 13 now, right? In the rankings. Yeah, I just wanted to say something about the parents. You mentioned them. And I got the chance to speak to him afterwards for the Dutch broadcaster I was working for in emails. And I asked him about who we spoken to since he won the title. And which encounter, so to speak, was the most emotional that he'd had so far. And he mentioned his father saying that he, from a young age, he was taken to the Indian Wells tournament by that and that he would one day win it is what his dad had told him. And while he was saying that, he got a little bit emotional, he broke a little bit, but then the interview was over, but it was good to see him being so, so emotional, I guess, about them caring so much about what he did. Yeah, definitely an emotional win for him. And we don't know what his health is going to be like with this ankle injury. How much of it's just adrenaline getting him through whatever sort of numbing agency had not optimistic he'll play Miami, necessarily what he's still in the draw. We'll see how it goes. But yeah, it was certainly longer term prospects for him or are pretty good and he's a solid enough player on the other surfaces as well, made a friendship in junior final back in the day. Well, Wimbledon juniors as well. I mean, I'm not sure about his pro Wimbledon results being that great, but he's not awful in Europe basically if I'm trying to say and he can sort of push closer to the top ten, I think. Over the course of this year, it seems like a totally reasonable expectation for him now with this start. I think he's like three in the race or something currently. So absolutely is in there. You mentioned we mentioned the Netflix thing briefly. You were telling me about this sign posted outside the I apparently missed the whole time I was a tournament. Morning media that there were to be filmed for this Netflix show at any point they were in the press room and probably anyone else determined honestly. And I had this in Australia already, Netflix was already in at the Australian open at Melbourne. They were there as well. They followed Taylor Fritz in one of their protagonists, so we can tell from early on Maria soccer, who made the women's final also one of the Netflix characters..

"The promo code is cr fifteen with that said. Let's talk about what's poppin and the place we start is with that. Wti event in ostrava. Now i will say. I have a personal fondness for this event. Listeners may remember. Last year i had the opportunity to be on. Press row was felt like me david. Cain michael dickens. We were on the arena. Sample inca beat for about two weeks and that sort of experience was a formative experience for me because to get to see a player. Have that sort of success. You could see in the press room the breakthrough after that's best tormo win and just winning that first title what it did for the confidence of arena savile linka so i do put value in these end of year events. Of course knowing now what we do that there will be a. wj year end finals in guadalajara. Will every top player play it. No definitely not but between you know indian wells still on the calendar and the chase to make those year end finals. There are a lot of players pursuing points this week. Going to ostrava playing these matches. And you look at just the top twenty players in the draw. We've got sapin of them in our top seven seeds. it starts with top seat She's yet to begin her campaign a show. Kick things off. I believe tomorrow against yulia putin savo. Who's coming off of a semi-final last week where she lost in three sets to the eventual champion. Jasmine paolini. four putin saver. She followed up that result with a three-set win today over. Shwe's zhang so you know again the physicality of putin save a physicality of fiance. That's certain to be a fun match. And you know that's a round of sixteen match. Of course you look at the other top twenty players. Patrick a bit of a. Who is the tennis abstract draft forecast favorite to win this event. She's at twenty point. Four percent favorite. That's i over maria soccer. who's eighteen point. Ninety mantech third at eleven point to look for kavita show kick off her campaign against the talented youngster. Astonished padova the qualifier. Earning a win over wild Wildcard caroline garcia six to seven. Six popova one of the more unheralded youngsters i would say. In the women's game you look four popova twenty year old russian currently number. Seventy eight in the ranking. She hasn't had that sort of breakthrough result that some of the other twenty one and under players. Obviously now a days you think rod kanu think fernandez you. Think coco goff. You think even a player like clara toss who's won multiple w. t. titles. That's not where anastazia pod pover- is yet in her career. You look for her overall career. High ranking number sixty four which you reach twenty nineteen number eighty nine coming excuse me in the live rankings. Right now as i mentioned popoff up to number seventy eight by qualifying making the round of sixteen here. But you look for pop ova. She's a former junior wimbledon champion winning the girls singles event in two thousand sixteen defeating diana stream sca in a final and no she hasn't made a w final she hasn't won a wti title yet..

"And just you know instead of going for broke on that first forehand using that first four to go for broke on the second fourth Forehand i've upon you played at fantastic aggressive tennis. Over the course of this event and again these are the sort of opportunities back half of the year the players with the momentum the police of the world who have had the confidence to have had deep runs and are gonna continue to pursue every opportunity they can to build the rankings. This was just an excellent decision from pauline. Her team to go play. This event excellent execution for her again to have this result on a hardcourt you look for her and her career was only her third final since twenty seven team on hardcore chance of getting the win her first. Wpa tour level title. Of course you gotta give a shout out to alley risk. Who's dealt with so many different injuries has only played twenty twenty total matches over the course of the season. And you know for her to get the final here. You look for ali risk. It's her first final. I believe since. I wanna say twenty. Nineteen when she made that finally at in wuhan on lost in three sets to arena sampling. Elanca gotta give credit to her. Found her form here. In this event you look for her. Throughout the course of the week really goodwin. Owen and four overcome. Von just stretched onto the outer thirds. And by the way i'll get to you in a second but for allied risk. Same deal absorbed the first strike of critiquing benefits redirected it so well in the quarter-finals. She needed this result for her ranking as well again she only played twenty matches but with this final. She's still stabilizes things a little bit currently at number fifty. We're gonna see her play this week in ostrava as well so again. Allie risks gotta go chasing points. She's healthy and now she's found her level again but By the way for jasmine paolini with her title. I mentioned she's a first time title-winner On the wtrw level we've now had sixteen first time title winners here. This season all of them age. Twenty seven or younger. You look at the group new champions here in twenty twenty one. Let's go from youngest to oldest. Clara dawson won her. First deputy tour level title. Leyla fernandez won her first. Deputy tour level title maria camilla. Toronto won her first ca- career. Wt level title amerada kanu won her first career. Wt level tour level title. Four teenagers have one first time. Titles here this season you look at the players again who are still all under the age of twenty five or younger. You've got krejci cova. You've got three best hormone. You've got cooter. matova paula. Dosa asked her sharma lamilla samson nova. You've got milk russa. You've got tomorrow's at dan's zik. Jasmine paolini then got players like danielle collins and venus guy and obviously own debord and collins. Don't feel like going anywhere anytime soon. We've seen all these players. In this speaks to the depth the speaks to the parody. It speaks to the quality of the women's tennis. We've seen thus far but of course again going to beat this drum..

"September twentieth excellent is the name of the game on today's show as we had a couple of stand out performers over another championship weekend throughout the professional tennis world. Of course perhaps the performance standing above all else the performance of eighteen year old clara toss and earns another wj level titled this season in luxembourg. Three-set wins over both marquette oven through uva yelena ostapenko on her way to the title. One could make a legitimate case that it's tossing not right account not not goff clara. Toss in the former world. Junior number-one may just be the best teenager in women's tennis right now while that's a topic. I will explore on our crack racquets youtube channel later this week. I do want to talk about again. What allowed her to earn that title over. The past week of play of course wasn't the only one with a standout performances. Benjamin bouncy a continues his stand out season on the challenger level sixth title for him. This past week on the indoor hardcourts in france was a fantastic three-set win for him over. Arthur render nash in the semi-final in for bonzi three straight weeks of titles to put together. Fifteen straight wins three consecutive weeks of play. You look at where his ranking is right. Now i wanna talk about where the twenty five year old goes from here. Of course we also had a first time titled performance from jasmine paolini. Who much like the you know. A meyer sharieff of the world. Much like the arthur nashes of the world has had a breakthrough season in twenty twenty one. I wanna talk about the mechanics of that breakthrough season. What has allowed her game to thrive here this year. Of course there were five challengers last week. And if you think. I'm not gonna talk a little bit about mitchell. Kruger one of the crack racquets staples over the past few seasons. One of the guys. I as i was getting into tennis was watching you know. Have success at the junior level than have success futures. challengers. I wanna see that breakthrough. I still think there's a top one hundred pathway four. Mitchell krueger certainly. He's crafting it as he earns a second kerry challenger titled this season..

"We're just gonna let hang in there and move on. Well i just think. I think it's possible. I think it's possible. She's got so much power. She doesn't have the i don't think she has the athleticism in the balance An made an adult. Noah haven't seen enough of a game to understand him match play. Now we've seen some. We've seen twenty cents in two weeks from emirati so we know what we what she's capable of but rarely no what happens to task when she gets put into pressure Not enough at the highest level but the facts there. She kanu a few weeks ago. She's winning titles she's a teenager. She's got incredible power. She could well group. What about jasmine paolini. Portoroz alison risk this week. Now just been paolini. Wasn't she beaten by victoria. As rancor the usa open an android and as had really high praise for an. I saw paolini for the first time. I think in rome a couple of years ago i think commentated it on a match as when i was at bt sports and She just looked to me at the time like the classic italian play quarter and i remember thinking she. She's going to be a nightmare plan. The surface special never do anything anything else. 'cause i just you know these loopy groundstrokes strokes and reared on clay and yet here. She is beaten alison risk the flattest hitter in the world. On on hard. 'cause you know again i haven't seen it but that's on paper. Well heck of a good win a really good title. Could she be next to no for twenty five years old shoes. And i just think it's really impressive. We had the news this week. Haven't we thought. The wnba finals will be staged and they will be staged in guadalajara mexico in the second week of if november the billie jean king cup which we know. Now we'll be held in prague. That will be in the first week in november and then followed by back to back finals. Wnba finals first. And then the atp finals interior in in the third week of november very busy november upcoming in the tennis world i had had remiss about guadalajara. So it it wasn't a massive surprise to me It is objectively a surprising location And we've had ash parties. Cray toys r. expresses is much to the australian jetstar molten Yeah in a in a very candid entity in the australian associated press He described the location timing and conditions for the prestigious event finals in guadalajara as ridiculous That's his E- said we just found out it's in mexico fifteen hundred meters above sea level and they using pressureless balls precious balls. He says absolutely fly. It's a bowl that if you use it in normal conditions. It doesn't bounce. It's not the greatest advertisement for the girls in the world to be playing something for the best girls in the world to be playing something. They never played before In conditions they've never played in a country that don't play on its altitude. I just feel it's ridiculous as a spectacle it's frightening Ash needs to go home She's a super homebody. Buddy indian wells is still on the right. Aw a in a couple of weeks time. Isn't it but she just needs to rest. She was physically and mentally exhausted after the. Us open saw tell just getaway and have a holiday inn refresh. Everything would probably make a decision at the end of the week about what she's gonna do depending on where she's at but it certainly isn't easy for us to get out the play that event in mexico and then come back and have to do two more weeks in quarantine and then you have some sort of ruined as well Out of the australian open It's a decision will have to sit and malev quite a bit so Any he's actually said as well. It was about the decision to stage in In guadalajara. He says we were originally told. It was hong kong and then we were told it was prague and all of a sudden we here. It's in mexico. It's almost like it's a last-gasp it doesn't stripe is if that really trying to promote the best in the world for the top i it is a showcase to put it where it's at i mean on that's on that note. I think that's a bit harsh personnel. I told you understand. It's not ideal but maybe the world is an ideal right now. The had a ten year deal in shenzhen for extraordinary amounts of money Guaranteed and that cannot happen this year just as it cannot happen or did not happen last year in fact the event didn't happen at all last year and they're very much hoping to be back in shannon. They're intending to be next year but they needed a solution. Yeah i agree. It's obviously sub optimal. I mean the the the conditions. The in particular will play a big part. I mean it could be fun. Seeing the world's best tennis players try to adapt to you know he's throwing them onto an obstacle course. Isn't it it could be quite interesting. Given yeah or it could be a car crash. I didn't know but it's obviously so obviously not ideal that exactly as you say. These i mean say seems loss. I think it is loss goes by the. Wj probably might not phrase it like that but probably wouldn't deny it you. They need to. They needed to make this happen financially. The tool in they they needed a huckabee crew to just find a way to make it happen in an ideal circumstances and they've done that and i'm pleased that they have. I don't think anyone is trying to pretend that this is anything close to plan a. But who's been living planet for fit for the loss two years so I'm pleased it's happening. I'm i'm nervous about it.

"But i hadn't quite realized with girls that wreckage match the Is now working with some assuming and speculation that you know she really celebrated when she won that much meg aretha a couple of days ago when nobody really knows the circumstances of her split from so michael the exact details of relationship together. You know a lot of people sort of just make a face sort of you know sort of sit to pass gritted teeth vice of sort of she. She looks happier now. The one chooses some some some towards the latter stages of if their relationship. So i don't know what went on but she definitely really pleased to be dominant donovan with the with some stomach in the box didn't she. But you know i just wonder if this tough draw will end up helping her. Having said that. I thought we were as was really good today as well against a player in jasmine paolini. She said she thinks us top. Ten potential Say hey nice. I wasn't convinced by moog ruth coming into this tournament. Just because it's traditionally been the grand slam where she struggled. I think should any once before reach the third round. Hadn't she and then the that combined with this difficult draw just meant that. She seemed like a kind of prime candidate to be a early casualty to may. I've got that totally wrong. And in the end. I think the combination of the tough draw and it being Most difficult slam has actually taken some of the pressure off. I don't think she was necessarily expecting as much as of herself. In new yorkers she normally does she she talked about trying to be less stressed and she is playing some great tennis because as you said she had a shuttle owen. Three head to head against petkevich. Today who should be in straight-sets and yeah even her face at the end. It was immediately a picture of joy and suddenly it was like game face back on. She means business in this tournament. Yeah as a rancor in the next round is just yet another test for her and the thing about mugabe or is. She doesn't actually do a lot of winning. Titles in a she's always one slam titles but she's one relatively little in her career compared to a high lab or or something so. I think i remain unconvinced about her. Title could But just the way she's looking is way better than i was expecting. Just one last interjection about since stevens who has just won by the way in pretty dismissive fashion actually in the end. Sixteen in the second over coca golf because on a on our screen currently is is friend of the pod. Pam shriver interviewing slain stevens. On court and pam has has rainbow cuffs on her top. I presume in honor of pride day thing. They might be sweat bands. Oh out oh have our k- i mean that's still great. It is freebie. Oh not well done bamboos indeed and elsewhere today or go through with a few. The women's draw results here and and matches that have been set up as a result arena. Sabah lenka one through. She went through comfortably on the school board but she took one heavy fall at one point in the match which was really alarming. Wasn't it was one of those where features gave where she hit a ball just slid from and she landed heavily on a side but she seemed to bounce up cats in and and finished the match so fingers crossed yet. It didn't seem to affect her tennis tour. She won very straightforwardly. She had break that stage incident. He's check has done absolutely nothing since that. Run the french open has she. She she to real prospect yet. Didn't seem to affect our tennis. Just joke towards the finish line really. Bitchy was icing the wrist and the hand at every change of ends. I do wonder in. This is The pundits on prime share this concern. That whether that's the sort of injury the effects of which would be masked by adrenaline and the full effects of which wouldn't be known until the next day because it was a really nasty fall made you jolt in gasp to watch so i really cross my fingers because i want saba collins to be all the things that we know it could be yes. Daniel collins is is the opponent and yeah that that this so many crow corker is. Let's just go through a few of these unstability who had a very straightforward win. Today is up against a lisa. Mertens there is leanest fit alina taking on dire cuss akina. Apparently that's a very one-sided head to head in favors selena which i didn't know kazakina came through against andrea. The today and again you know. That's a good match. Isn't it simona hal up. I'm very pleased. Simona halla seems to be able to carry yourself okay. So far she's been strapped up a bit as the feeling is that she's not one hundred percent fit but she's still there she's playing pretty well and now takes on a loaner rebecca. She's playing very aggressively isn't share. I wonder if it's focusing the mind that very heavy thighs strapping that she has. You know if we're going to do this. I have to do this a certain way. That just really stepped in the court and tried to take charge of the rallies and and actually i think has always struck me as a player who probably plays the best defense so we sometimes think of as defensive player but actually she does quite like to attack and quite like to control the rallies when she can and she's doing that so well today just been reminded how much i watching simona hal play and i think she was getting a little frustrated at times because she was perhaps making a few more errors than usual considering she was going so much. Typically in the first set her forehand was leaking a little bit but she was very good overall. actually she She said the one thing she was able to do while she was injured was work on her serve. And she's made some technical adjustments. I think maybe the ball toss and the in the second-set serve was faultless. Really and again. That's kind of been an area of halifax game. The has always been a little bit. Vulnerable the serve But if she sure that that could be sort of long term benefit of a real injury that she had the three big tournaments this summer. So yeah i'm impressed with how that she's now rabat. Kenna who speaking of serving was just pummeling isis today against carolina garcia and in hannah's words she's happening rebecca and i think Against how that they met previously in the dubai fine twenty twenty just just before the cove it shut down and that was seven six in the third to out it was a fantastic matches sort of a classic contrast of styles which is kind of what we love to say. So i mean at that. To the list of incredible maxi's i feel like we've been building for a long time for a third round like this in the in the women's game we've always had a lot of great matches but it's not quite come together like this as a draw at all of them seem to be happening..

You look at the action we've got going on in both. I believe luzon. Switzerland and over in budapest hungary. Both those action Both of those events happening over on clay will start with the action. In switzerland tomorrow satanic makes the finals of the french open now that rankings going. Allow her to get into all of these. Wj tour level events. She's taken advantage of that fact choosing to be the number one seed this week in switzerland playing on the clay the surface. She knows bass. She is going to be. The favourite to advanced out of her section of the draw. You look her number. Eight seed is in a blink of of course oca- covert soviet supposed. Come off final from last week. So that's an interesting section. You blow that jasmine paolini. Who quietly won a clay court event in the lead up to wimbledon. She's the number seven seed. She's got the always dangerous number. Three seed joke teichmann looming at the top of that section. Very fun first round. Match between a francesca di lorenzo and Stephanie vogel as well in round number one there you look at the bottom half of the draw your four and five seeds Carolina garcia fund matchup between astra sharma who qualified and christina plus cova in round number one and then fiona ferro your number two seed. She's paired with iran so reuss. You've also got talented young frenchwoman clarita row in that section leash. Now they'd be public and goal above in the final and in mixed doubles krawczyk and salads berry beat of an illinois vizino in the mixed doubles final visiting a who just returned to pro tennis apparently of the start of the year in february of approached her. Like hey do you want to play at the french open. And she was like well. I haven't even started playing again yet. And my level is not that great his like i'm sure you'll be fine by them. And they were Because of the compress schedule this year there were a bunch of grass tournaments in the second week of rolling girls. Kudos to any of you. Who could pay attention to both at the same time in nottingham joke konta was back in the winter circle for the first time since twenty nineteen discovered her serve. She was raining down aces in nottingham. I believe that was her. Fourth career title in stood guard felix. Oj simpson well. Let's start with the good news. He reached his career. Atp final yes. Still at the age of twenty years old. The bad news is that he also lost his eighth career. Eight to be filed and also his sixteenth consecutive set in an atp vital. He got to a tiebreak in the first set against martin chile chile. We had said on. Previous episodes have been rediscovering. His form we talked that. Maybe you'd have been a tough own for federer in the second round at roland garros and now he's back in the winner's circle for the first time since twenty eighteen. Also that was on at queen's club in two thousand eighteen. Jasmine paolini one. The chrome bull ladies open was the first i jeff title of her career that event tomorrow shock was the person who won the last two. Oh she couldn't be there because she was a semifinalist at horizon but the last two time this event was held she was the winner in nineteen low in two thousand eighteen and twenty nineteen. It wasn't held last year because of covid frances tiafoe. He wins his first grass title the nottingham challenger christopher eubanks he won his second career chandra title. This one in orlando and is on the cusp of returning to the top. Two hundred. His highest career rank is number one forty seven. It could have been a banner day for black men in men's tennis with and it was it was just areas hat trick. Yes we're gonna finish the episode with a few et cetera. Moments from the french open and it begins with one of the most absurd conflicts of interest in tennis. That you will ever see. I mean there are so many. There's so many because there are so many it's often difficult to get to. The root of what the issue is was just like how. And it's been percolating for awhile. Misha's vera of alexander's brother and a former professional tennis player. Himself as you know has been working for euro sports as an analyst after alexander's match earlier. This week he was asked by his co hosts what he said to his brother during the match the two of them were in studio and he's beamed in via satellite and He was not there in capacity of coach. He was at that match courtside because of his credential yes note you also cannot coach during a match so it doesn't matter i understand yes. It was important that you made that station. However even if he had been there as a coach he's not supposed to be talking to his player and coaching and he's not totally unaware of this because he hesitated when he was asked us a. Yeah and then he. He like set a few things that he he conveyed at the time. I mean this was once when i was two sets to love to citybus i just. It's so embarrassed. Well it's absurd because it's so like nobody bothers hiding it. You know the idea that a person who works as a commentator in a professional capacity who is also the brother of an active player during this tournament is on court giving him tips which is breaking the rules of both his network contract and the rules of the sport and the chair. Umpire can't be looking out for that because if anything. He's looking for the box right where misha's not sitting he's somewhere else because of credential and he's able to float those rules because of it and tennis coverage is so silly it seems across the world that we all just kind of giggled about it. What we have here is the making of another nepotistic tennis situation whereby an unqualified former tennis player. But right would michel have this job based on the strength of his tennis playing career. Or does he have it because of the that comes with his last name and who he's able to provide access to breads. Sharon fichman went off on the tournament organizers she was like i i know that you all are enjoying this rough. Lay number fifty. Whatever it is. But i've got six pages of things to say right now. I literally was six weeks. Six six three six and we've hard throughout this tournament lead up to it and through the tournament how unhappy doubles players were with the slashes that were made to their prize. Money relative to what was done to the singles pool in the mixed doubles. The teams who lost in the first round made zero dollars mutt in mixed doubles. Yeah zero dollars. Okay when we're talking about like the real like. She said the relocation of one percent of singles prize money would have made that much of a difference to the doubles players. But it's just not important and so she took it a step further to say it's not just that they don't think were important as evidenced by the prize money. It's also these other ways that they shouldn't us for the entire two weeks because the nature of the us coverage. I don't know if it was like this in other countries but here they're the commentators..

"Two six one really really impressive. I think it was the first british winner in forty years for in terms of female players at wti a singles event since sebolka won the indoor daihatsu challenge at brighton. It in october nineteen eighty-one so it's been a long time coming. I'd love to have an indoor tennis tournament. Paper getting please yeah. That'd be quite nice. Just down the rape if seaside action yes please but yeah no really happy that jerry managed to win that. It was the strongest fields. She didn't have to play. The strongest of pain is. But i think that really matters like it's getting these that confidence getting the wins. She hadn't had back to back wins. The season so to have five in a row is is the main thing and come away with. You'll i try to in in four years. And actually i was surprised by that because i just assumed it she would have won a to had like twenty thousand. Nineteen but actually. She's got finals. Since i think she won the miami told in twenty seventeen which has lost win but she had not managed to win those same radio he positive star to unite girl. School season ashamed playing eastbourne next. Which is the week off the next. say yes. it's good it's The best she can fight for oversee this week and katy boot also had a fairly right we to retire they From her i think was crackled final. So davis hey play. She's that was a preventive thing but Yeah fantastic konta. She said pretty. Well stay and comfortable victory. in the end. there was another event Outon bowl in croatia as well. Twenty five event for the women bolan garros you debating how to say bowl before we start recording. It feels to too easy to be true. Just cool it bowl. But she'd say listeners. Do you have any ideas anyway. Jasmine paolini One that one. As the the italian player she beat a wrench reuss. Sixty seven six in the final at start to our thing sir. Second final of the year and this was her first title. Say fantastic victory for paolini not gonna lie. It didn't watch any of bowl this week. What everything else going on But that just brings us onto happening next week. Yeah tennis does not stop. We all straight out into the girl. Well the grossest being oversee qualifying has been going on the way this week. We've got to women's events. He benz events berlin and birmingham for the women. Birmingham's being degraded to achieve fifty used to be premier event on the deputy a tool. And it's gone gone down a bit Steve fifty elise mertens is topsy. They're of secrets. Some brits in action adult wildcard friend. James is go wild caught. But you're looking at on or seconds seed kazakina carolyn garcia a native. She said sam stays has been given a wildcard as well which is interesting one. Yeah i'll be interesting. How that turns out young hsi-wei the pointless in nottingham is also there so maybe she can continue hukou running form. Don evacuees might be a good shout. I mean italy's martin's such a consistent player wouldn't wouldn't be surprised if she went on and won the tournament yet. No official. i mean yes thank. You shouldn't do so what not give. She was defending that title. Them that state so ianovich as well. He contemplated in the semi's in the drawer and we'll say multiple stick. He did well at the french watson. What's in their guts. Call you bitch. From switzerland in the first round. So we're interested to see how she guys think she yet conscious not playing it surfing. All eyes will be on watson jones. I think dr carolyn garcia from a british perspective but the berlin is the higher of the two in terms of use. Rankings and points sapling. Headlining that one and fits. Lena seconds eight andrea skew in action. Be interesting to see how she does Carrying apprec- giver as a rancor. Maruta say base. The big names all in belene mcevers. Say yeah obviously. I first steps for these plays. Most of them are on girls. Say i have zero expectations to be honest with you. I mean there's a lot of big players in natural. The i feel like i've been. I've worked up their credibility on other surfaces. As as we've not had girls for two years it's it's hard to know it's hard to know he was going to come through and be the champion. There you'd think sank is game is like perfect school So let's let's see. I mean as rank also could be quite dangerous and just just bikila. How is just beginning. Unseeded in the vibe aquinas. Unseated as well say yeah. It's it's it's a lottery really isn't it. When you go into the girl self deteriorates away from it like boys going to happen but we've also got queens happening Much too high bertini's the top seed for this one. I'd shapovalov is second-seed. Your accent is there. He's playing jack draper tomorrow. Which is quite cool. Dre has been given a wildcard as young young british guy so be interesting to see how he gets old Don evans is say that oversee antibody as well with wildcard it's ben warpath in the first round. Say at a memorable match. What are the andy. murray expectations. Getting into I don't even know if he's going to be is he ca. I mean he's not his on the replay monday so if he does pay it will be on the tuesday. This feels to me like they're giving him as literally much time as possible for him to get ready. So on syllabi. Fifty fifty in terms of weather that match will of go ahead. I know he's gonna keep it on the practice schools but i'm still have a bit of trepidation there in terms of whether that will go ahead but it's quite a you know if he does if he does play and if he does come three ben wolpe. He's you know his been. Having the best of times lay on the on the tall he could get bertini. The top seed in the second round. Say quite a tough. It would be quite tough kind of welcome back but You know there's no. I don't think there's any surprises that you know. He's a wild card is unseeded. he's you know. His position is up to the draw god so it wasn't really a surprise. I think yeah is even. It's a five hundred and we've definitely seen stronger queens draws in the past but you know you still got the likes of corrupt censor a phony bertini anti-gang post him It'd be interesting. See how come oregon's odin. I think he's a decent decent run three but yes it. Some i think howler is that toll benassi with the the more high. High caliber failed federov earthly medvedev. Six passi took a wildcard. Go five more fees verify that pretty much all that and Yup she think federa is is gonna come. Three lucky often does heller is very much one of his tournaments and ask. You could face medvedev in the quarterfinals. Certainly think he's got an. I think he's gone cheaply. I think he looked really good. Friendship and And i think. I think he will have no issues. I think just kind of transitioning to what he will feel..
