"To another episode of Zero, to IPO were absolutely thrilled to have to amazing guests on the show today I wanna I introduce Beth comstock who for many years in fact, almost three decades was at GE and served as the vice chairperson. There is on the board of Nike is also the author of this amazing book called imagine it forward, which I am really enjoying and learning a lot from and have a bunch of questions to ask Beth about the. Beth welcome on the show. Thanks Josh. Great to see you great to be here. And our other guests is Jasmine crow who is the CEO and founder of Gooder, which is a company that I am fascinated by I. think it's one of the more insightful companies that I've come across. Recently I also have a lot of questions for you Jasmin about how the idea came to you, but but welcome on the show. Thanks so much gas and happy to be here. Of course, we've got Freddie caressed my co host. Zeroed IPO your morning Josh, how you doing good I bet and Jasmine, nice to see you. Thanks for joining us today I'm super excited about today. Yeah me too good to see you. Well, let's dive right in because we have a lot to talk about Jasmine I wanNA start with you and I want to understand I want our audience to understand where you're coming from. When you started gooder there's some kind of basic facts that I want our audience to understand domestically we are wasting seventy-two billion pounds of food every year while forty two million people are struggling with food insecurity absolutely that's a foundational mess. And it's even worse. Now, I'll of everything that's happening with current virus who are wasting more food and more people are going hungry. So it is a huge issue. Yeah. I mean just to be clear before this even. I read somewhere that we were wasting about a quarter trillion dollars a year on food in the United States if people number eight is that right? Yeah. Right Frederick in. So I guess to put an even more simpler context about two percent of GDP is on wasted food for that's a lot of money spent on food that never gets eaten in this country does Like many people I have some passing familiarity with this I. Read about it I don't even know where to start and it seems like maybe you go out and you you know you try to donate food as best you can and and I think that's maybe where you started. Yeah and it transformed into something quite extraordinary. So yeah if you know Josh I started feeding people that were experiencing hunger and homelessness in two thousand thirteen out of my apartment in Atlanta Georgia So that's where got started I found a parking. Lot I drove past it one day and I just saw hundreds of people that were homeless in in something kind of just pulled on my heartstrings at that moment and I said I wanNA help you know what do I didn't have a ton of money and I knew I could cook and so I just went home I post it on facebook I mean Sunday. I'm going to go downtown and I'm going to feed on the streets. If. You want to join me I had about twenty volunteers I made a spaghetti dinner. And loved it. You know brought out my little beats pill at the time, which wasn't that loud outside. Dating us, you're dating we know exactly when you're store your. Heckling when it happened so I really wasn't that loud music thing. But I have bad and you know the idea was it would be old school kind of Sunday music why Jackson five and Aretha Franklin James Brown like this classic kind of music and a good Sunday dinner, and that's how it all got started in. So of eighty own from one of my pop up restaurants went viral on facebook and people are saying this is so amazing which restaurants donate the food and the reality was nobody I was couponing on price matching I always say, I'm the reason Walmart doesn't price-match anymore I definitely feel like i. gave them a run for him. And then I was cooking thing taking it downtown, serving it coming home cleaning up, and so it would take me like forty hours every week I did this and I started researching food ways and was really like upset like I can't believe this much food goes to waste in here I. Am you know putting together five dollar donations and my own money and trying to make these feeding is happening to feed five hundred people

"We do have the council woman out of the city of Stonecrest a city in the cab county we have councilwoman Jasmin Kabul on the show our councilman are you I'm great how are you doing excellent thank you for being on the program thanks rob we had mayor Jason Larry on the show he laid out their thought process the reason why the suit was filed and basically the mayor said that there was a constituent who complained they looked into it and he wanted a judge to basically give clarity as to if you have now for feed it your office I read the city charter out while he was on the show and the and I'm going to read the city charter again you also have your attorney on the show Brian Tyson attorney at Taylor English I thank Brad for being on the show thank you okay let me read the city chart and they would get into the discussion the city charter says elected officials of the city shall not hold other elected public officers elected office of the city's government shall become vacant upon the member's death resignation removal or forfeiture of office the following shall result in an elected city official forfeiting his or her office violating the provisions of this charter being convicted or pleading guilty or no contest to a felony or crime of moral turpitude for failing to attend one third of the regular meetings of the city council in a three month period without being excused by the council there is reported to absences in that period how was that not in violation of the charter or the for for to rule sure so I'll start and I'll let Ryan Graham break down the legality behind all of that so first I want to make it very clear that I didn't do anything wrong there is there is there's never been a question as to whether or not I'm on council now I'm a newly elected city council member fully seated in in my position and I plan to continue do all the work that I'm doing and even more I'm to make sure I can me be prosperous so there is this ambiguous statement in the charter failure to attend one third of the regular scheduled council meetings and a three month period without being excused by council so the two meetings that I missed one was in September one was in October where both for work so I just wanna make sure that everybody understands it very clearly I wasn't on the beach hanging out and when I'm not serving the citizens and stone crest I'm serving Georgians all across the state as I'm a fully employed a member of them the state of Georgia Mexican director for fleet management across the state so we have almost over twenty some thousand state owned assets that my team manages so very critical role in St and so for those two meetings I had to travel for work am I notified the clerk notified the council members sent a text message to the mayor everybody was fully aware that I was going to be away for work and so if I have if there are any three month period there are six meetings I attended for which is two thirds so I do not fail to attend one third actually attended two thirds I'm in because those two meetings were actually in two separate three month periods there is no action that needs to be taken on behalf of council no need for anyone to excuse something on because I had not violated any part of that statement so but sometimes when you're trying to read into something differently you try to find gray areas and and hone in on the ambiguity but I want before Brian James and I also want to clear up that this started as a as a open record request I am so and we at in your packet we gave you that open record request and actually asked for the attendance records of all council members were they given yes okay work and if there is at that point a constituent question of my qualifications there is a very specific mechanism that is supposed to be used by law to question those qualifications that is not the responsibility or in the jurisdiction of any other elected official to do that and so at that point I'll let Brian kind of break down the legalese behind that our before we get to buy let me ask this when the charter says excuse by counsel it does that mean the council is supposed to take an official vote to excuse a council member is that what the reference means less ambiguous yeah it does not say anything other than what you just read all right so again when your when when ambiguity is in your favor yeah you can do one of two things with it you can move in this space that you are everyone is the city and so you defend at all cost all members of your city or you take the other route every day was really interesting all right I'm not a lawyer but Brian Tyson Tyson I'll let you back tell me if I'm right or wrong if a constituent sued councilwoman cobble for what they saw as a violation of the charter what not the city government have to pay you for the city attorney I himself would have to defend councilwoman cobble yes that's generally how this would go because under Georgia law someone is a member of a government body until there's a time when there's a court order saying they aren't and so the actions of the city in that time period presumed valid there's no issues with the actions the city takes in that time period but it takes a court order and if there is an ambiguity in the charter as we talked about several of them here in the city would need to defend its ability to keep its members on the council so they can do their jobs I think it's important to note that the attendance records for councilman COBOL showed she had perfect attendance for all of last year it was just those two meetings one of the third quarter of the year and one of the fourth quarter of the year that led to these questions so again yes you're exactly right the city would be making sure that its elected officials state elected officials if a constituent were to bring an action against councilman COBOL all right we got more on the other side because there's some more to unpack I'm sitting here with jasmine cobble stone crest city councilwoman and also her attorney Brian Tyson attorney at Taylor English and remember the mayor of Stonecrest Jayson Blair was on the show earlier and we know that the judge judge Scott did dismiss the our request for a temporary restraining order and the city withdrew the lawsuit we're gonna talk about why J. as in Larry the mayor gave us his reasons why and I want to hear from the other side you getting reel to reel as Manal radio news and talk thirteen eighty W. A. okay.
Swipe right for safety features (and give up more data)
"Was probably a busy weekend on tinder. What with Valentine's Day and all hopefully it was also a safe weekend on tender. The company recently introduced a panic button feature for the APP to let users report if they feel unsafe on a date and a check in feature to let your friends know where you are when you're out with but as always there is a catch you have to share your location constantly to use the new features marketplace's media reporter. Jasmin Garcia told me. These changes are happening partly because maybe tinder itself isn't a very good date. I think it's a growing public awareness. I think initially there was like this period of being in love with the technology. And it's so much fun and I think the mood has completely shifted. I also think for women on these ads feels like misogyny to point all just within tech space and so I think yeah. There's definitely been more stories and exposes about how on the free services offered by the match group. You know you can have record of of being a sexual Predator sexual offender and still have an account and I think that these APPs and these companies are responding to that growing awareness and concern right. Is this enough though? I mean it's one thing to say we will allow you to call the police who will hopefully get there in time but does that remove the responsibility of these platforms to maybe do better screening. Look on the one hand what you have with all of these free APPs and quote unquote free Tack companies is that we're really coming to a realization as a society that there is no such thing as a free service. There are so many costs whether it's your privacy your data or also your safety on the other hand match group which owns tinder last quarter. They reported a total revenue of five hundred. Forty one million dollars. Tender is the top grossing non game APP OF LAST YEAR. And so there is an interesting question of. Can you invest some more? In safety if you're pocketing and that kind of money but it's interesting because this APP then introduces its own kind of potential security risk right. Which is that in order to use it. You have to share your location data in real time. Which feels like a little bit of a devil's bargain up to say the least. Yes no completely. There's no such thing as a free out. There's no such thing as a free tack service you pay in your data and your privacy. You know and the magazine Gizmodo did find earlier. That a handful of major names intact. Ads Grab the details that you give this APP it. It does lead to the question though. Why do the users have to shoulder? The cost of safety and not the extremely lucrative company Jasmine guards reports on social media and Internet culture for marketplace

"The l l c the limited liability company to be recognised in the state of california has to be registered of the state of california at the property is in california so california courts have said that the limited liability company doesn't exist that if it's not registered here and when you register now loyalty here there is a minimum tax of eight hundred bucks and so unfortunately that's worth doesn't matter where you are resident of you and you can create llcs in any state but the habit effective in certain states california being one of them if a restaurant california and when you registering california you pay the hundred bucks a year per year the other states i think texas maybe like twenty five or fifty bucks a year to have it registered their the vat is fairly inexpensive but if you have a california property and you create an llc and another state that doesn't any good in california from hell for for california liability laws necessary sanders this that you need to stay state like california well you pretty much if you have a property in a state that you're not a resident of uh where you create the llc whether it's a delaware elefsina vata llc whatever llc it most of the time and i i don't know for a fact what i think it's every state you need to still registered in that state where the property is valve without so but many states like i said twenty five bucks fifty bucks that's not a big deal eight hundred bucks to give a bigger deal so you do you wanna registered in the state of the where the property is thumbs up yeah and it limited liability company happen own rental property as jasmin does is an important component of that works well it works well now does not take the place of insurance we would suggest that if you're a landlord east you you own a property somewhere no matter where it happens to be all you have joints you don't use a limited liability company to replace whatever insurance that you might have short is the first step remember the l l c does not actually protect the property from from you losing the property.
