"Ward was called out on strike his last time. He's keep falling behind three and O to Jared Jared Walsh. So now we discover that Jared Walsh can be mistaken for Taylor ward, which happened last week I played a clip for Matt vasgersian who did it. In that case, I think he just forgot who was batting as opposed to screwed up the names, but in this case callus was just kind of stumbling over the names, I think, and so while she was up there and he said word first and then he sort of got himself in his second saying of word and it ended up being worse. War Jared ward, Jared Walsh caught himself just in time there, but not quite. Anyway, so we still have that. We thought it was going to be Martian Walsh, would be the issue. But apparently word and Welsh is perhaps an even more serious issue. So we're not done with this segment. I don't think it's just changed a little bit. I mean, I would pause at the following, which is that there is a half season left to go, why I assume that we will not see every possible iteration of this bit of confusion. "Velazquez is a guy who does have, you know, good stuff, but he can be erratic and put guys on base and really put himself into some jams against a powerful and patient lineup like the Yankees that is hot right now. I do think that's a bad combination. I like that bet a lot Anita. I'm going to a target another offense that's been very prolific this season. And that's the Los Angeles angels. They're on the road against the Oakland a's and righty starter Dalton Jeffries. I'm going to play the angels first 5 innings over two and a half runs. You can find that on DraftKings at plus one 35. So we need three runs from the angels in the first 5 at bats, and this is an offense that is maybe the best in all of Major League Baseball against right handed pitching. And Dalton Jeffries is a right handed pitcher that isn't overpowering at all. He doesn't miss bats. It's very easy to make contact against Dalton Jeffries and when the angels make contact against right handed hitters are right handed pitchers pardon me, they do damage. Their first and Major League Baseball and Homer's slugging percentage and OPS versus right handed pitchers this season. And Dalton Jeffries, as I said, is our right handed pitcher who doesn't overpower you. He has just a 15% K rate. That is very poor in today's baseball standard. So he doesn't miss bats. He's in bad form, each of his last three starts. He's allowed four or more earned runs. That's 15 earned over his last 14 innings covering his last three starts. And again, the angels mash right handers and they're often travels well. They've been a really good offense at home. They've been a really good consistent offense on the road, no matter what kind of part they play and the angels hit well. They're third in Major League Baseball and road OPS. So I trust Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, you know, Jared Walsh, Anthony Rendon, heating up a little bit. This is an offense that we had to take notice of because that's been really, really good this season. I'm going to say i pick them to win the division. They've been the disappointment of everybody this year. They've been the biggest surprise even more so than the giants. Be just absolutely being amazing. This year but minnesota. I predicted them to win the central. I really did. And i predicted cleveland to compete a little bit more in the central i thought is division was going to be a little bit closer but a doesn't end up looking. It doesn't look like it ended up that way. And now we have the west visions so it will start out in the al west since we started out in the nfl the last two times. You have the rangers who are in last place right now. They're forty four. Eighty four thirty two out of i in twenty nine out of the wildcard. They've lost three row there in a series against houston and are two eight out of their last ten. Yeah that's that's about it. That's about it if you're rangers fan. I'm sorry the angels. Like it's it's really as simple as it not really simple as that but it it does feel like this team has been the most consistent out of every team this year which is something that i absolutely love now. Now we're gonna go out and we're gonna finish up in the nfl west with arizona in fifth place in the bottom of the seller. Their forty four in eighty six forty games out of place which is by far the most. Actually it's not the most but it is the most in the nfl. And it's not. You ran a lot of numbers to demonstrate that pitcher hitters had performed worse than position player pitchers. But it struck me that you're empirical analysis or at least. Your interpretation of the numbers was flawed in that you didn't seem to account for a particular selection bias in the major leagues in practice. Starting pitchers who are really terrible at hitting are frequently required to hit. While only the most competent position players tend to be asked to tow the rubber. It would not be stretch to assert that if baseball required position players to take the hill occasionally in order to stay in the hitting lineup. The results of those instances might be a lot uglier than the position. Player pitching outcomes. We become accustomed to seeing managers aren't plucking just anyone off their benches to pitch an inning. Conversely if manager could always sent his best hitting pitcher to the plate in a pinch pitcher hitters would perform a lot better than they do. So that's an interesting point. That's something that i hadn't really considered. But pitchers have to hit even if they are completely terrible at it as long as their national league. Starters as long as they're in the batting lineup they have to hit whereas position player pitchers that's voluntary managers. Decide which ones to send in. However i take slight issue with matt taking issue with me here. And i have two responses which i even if the selection bias did exist. I am not sure it would change my conclusion. It might change as he said my interpretation of the results and the difficulty of doing these things but mostly i was just interested in which have been worse which are worse relative to average and even if there were some selection bias that produce those results. It wouldn't actually change with the results. Were so great. What i found about which has actually performed. Better or worse that stands. I think but it's still an interesting point. But i do kinda quibble with the idea that the selection bias does existed. It's plausible but i think there might even be a bias that operates in the opposite direction. Because what matt was saying. Is that only the most competent position players are asked to pitch. But i think that's not actually true he wrote the managers aren't plucking just anyone off their benches to pitch an inning but they are almost always plucking someone off their benches off their benches being the operative phrase there they don't take starting players generally and make them pitch so the best position players many of whom would probably also be the best pitchers just because they're stronger harder throwing or or athletic or maybe more likely to have been good enough to have played two ways in the more recent past are essentially off limits because you don't want to risk hurting them or tiring them mer embarrassing them or anything so when the twins wanna a position player pitcher they signal for winds. Oh not interested in simmons. Who was a wichita mid pitching prospect in two way player before he was drafted or when the angels wanted one this april or last august. You know they have. Jared walsh other the roster who was actually a professional pitcher but they choose backup catcher. Anthony ben boom or at least they have a couple times. You don't even have to throw hard for a position player to get in there. Like the average velocity of position. Player pitchers has sunk pretty precipitously so if pitcher hitting work the same way that position pitching did i think some of the good pitcher hitters quote unquote like bumgarner and cranky and will listen. "Yeah i guess this is always the risk that you take right that things you go. We want to mark special occasions in place that feels special to us and we wanna do it with our nearest and dearest and also with the players that we enjoy most sometimes things go wildly outta whack. And i think that the the sort of part of the deal right. The the risk is that otani only goes in inning and their two rain delays and the game goes into one in the morning and ends in a bizarre way and everything. Is you know cats and dogs living together but the reward that you get is that you're maybe going to see a thing you've never seen before and maybe the no one's ever seen before i did see something that hadn't happened before but you know in any individual game that can feel like a lousy bargain. But i think in the you know the course of one's life over the you know when you complete your register it probably balances out in a way that is to the to the baseball fans favor. But that doesn't make bad bad show appearances. And i mostly i in addition to not getting to see him pitch to his full potential. And what we've seen from him so far this year. Almost how that you saw you just got to see. So little of him at all right knows after that first inning. He was just. He was out in in both ways. Radius is the. This is dangerous. So i was like. Oh not only does does not get to see that. You know fabulous splitter work the way that it's supposed to you but you're not gonna get to see him heading so yeah and you're right. Jared walls is a power guy. now he can't hit lefties and they moved down in line up there but and he's not gonna three hundred dollars season but a two seventy five batting average with thirty plus home runs makes them a top thought hundred guy and i mean i was just using the matt olsen cop because west coast lefthanded batter and you know matt olsen isn't exactly killing lefties himself but Joe walsh is legit. I actually think one of the big differences between these two players to date as of today is run scored.
