The Fear of School Lockdowns Is Bipartisan

"I am of the opinion that Ron DeSantis is setting a model for governors everywhere. The president can't do anything about school unions. Because it's a governor's authority. But there are emergency powers vested in almost every state governor. They can I think they can fire the teachers if they don't go to work. I think governor can do that. I think desantis will. What do you think about schools being closed at this two years into the pandemic when we fully are aware of the consequences of school closure? Well, look, I don't think there's any political well, I should say this. I think there's very little political will for it on both sides of the aisle. One of the things that I find encouraging, but also very interesting is that some of the sharpest pushback to move lockdowns and school closures has been coming from democratic governors and democratic officials. Some of them are not going to be as appointed or aggressive in their language about it because the teachers unions are allies and the Democratic Party and important allies from a political perspective. But I can just tell and looking at Colorado governor Jared polis, the new mayor of New York, Eric Adams. Even from The White House, there's just very little appetite for this sort of thing. As there should be at this point, given all we know about the virus given the vaccines in the Therapeutics we have and given how we know this impacts kids.

"You know, what I got attacked by multiple tarantulas last night, my sleep. But I thought them all off. And people have no way where they come from my imagination you dumb cough. But hey, whatever, it's all good. When we get back at the bottom of the hour. We're not quite there yet. We're going to talk about a movement that is happening that unlike my let's see. In. My my skepticism about the effectiveness of a Jared polis recall. I think this one has a lot of legs. I think a lot of people are very angry and this one stands a chance of succeeding. It's the national popular vote referendum. They're trying to get something on the battle the ballot to undo what has been done by our legislature. And I feel like this would this one has a shot because nobody wants to do seed everything to California. Nobody wants to have California make all of our decisions for us, and many people don't know that just before his reign as governor John Hickenlooper signed over our emission standards to those of California. And now, we actually have, you know, something on the books that says, hey, whatever California decides we're going to Think about that for a second. Let me think about that. And that's what's happening. And for people surprised that Jared police is trying to make his California. I mean, you just haven't been paying attention. But again going back to our conversation in the last hour. I wanna do things that are going to be effective. I want to do things that are going to make a change that's going to be lasting and permanent and work. I got an Email from a woman right after the. Segment was over. And it says this. Excuse me. Mark. You're not a woman by apologies. Bark said, you're obviously a smart person. Of course, complement always makes it better. But would it hurt anything to recall police, maybe it would send a message? And if it helps keep a minimum of oil producers in the state, wouldn't that be the positive result? You screech about like, I said, you're smarter than the average bear. That's one reason. I listen, I just hope you don't hurt yourself, patting yourself on the back. There's been no patting myself on the back. I'm just telling you how I feel and there would be for his would it hurt? Anything to recall police? Here's why I think it would hurt to recall police and not just be ineffective as I said at the end of the our people have a finite amount of anger. They have a finite amount of rage. They have a finite amount of fire that is going to spur them into action. And if you do it doing something that's a largely symbolic gesture because recalling Jared polis in my mind is a largely symbolic gesture. It would not change the oil and gas for rules and regulations they would still pass the democratic house and Senate would pass them the whoever the governor was even if they vetoed it the democratic house. They can they can override the veto. So we have the same legislation this going to oil and gas workers out of the state. We have all of these people who will be patting themselves on the back for recalling Jared police, but we still have all the garbage legislation. That's happening. So why not redirect that rage into movements to dismantle what's being done right now? I sure hope that every Republican party across the state is vetting and finding candidates to run for the Senate and the house and they better start fundraising right now. Sir fundraising, right? This second. Here's my commitment. If you have a for sure candidate that is looking like a viable candidate. Not just some crazy guy who walked in off the street and said he wanted to run I will have them on the show, and I don't normally have state races on the show. But I'm I'm not longer taking a hands off approach right now. My boss is probably like..

But what's so important at this point is that Jared polis has revealed himself. He has revealed himself has been willing to give away your presidential vote to California. And that tells you everything you need to know about them right now, we are going to have a special guest in in the next segment to talk about what's being done to reverse that and how you can help. But I also think police Pola signing that Bill and the Democrats supporting that Bill I think is going to help these recall efforts across the state because it is so revealing about the person I mean, if if he really viewed himself as working for you if he really put Colorado I in Colorado. Voters. I there's no way in the world. He would give away Colorado's influence in a presidential election. Because he knows everybody knows exactly what would happen. And that is if this actually came to pass, we would be a fly over state and instead of presidential candidates coming here to court, Colorado and listen to our concerns and answer our questions, we'd be a fly over state. So Jared police was willing to give away your influence. I think that's just so revealing, of course, take a lot of other things have revealed the true, Jared polis such as attacking your religious liberty your second amendment rights attacking the economy after and talk about bait and switch, and I think this is one reason why a recall might succeed is in Colorado. And I think it's part of our western heritage our DNA. It's it's just part of everything. Good about Colorado. We don't like liars, and whether we agree or disagree with each other. We expect each other to stand up. And tell us what you really believe and Jared police pulled the big bait and switch in that election. And and one was he was opposed to one twelve for member and voters spoke loudly and clearly they want the energy industry protected, and yet what is police do as soon as he's elected. He goes right at the heard of the energy industry in Colorado. Screw all those people whose jobs depend on it. All those kids who will have to move out of their family homes and everything else at doesn't bother Jared polis. But the fact that he lied about it to get elected. I don't think that's going to set very well with the people at Colorado either. I love this tax to says, Dan, these issues are critical regarding police and listen to this next point and the people stuck in traffic have plenty of time to think about it because transportation isn't even on his plate. And that was the point I made yesterday one of the reasons I think our recall effort might succeed is because you have in sixty short days this ferocious attack on religious. Liberty the economy second amendment rights the right to vote. But then you have another layer. Then you have you know, the layer of of quality of life beyond those four pivotal foundations. You have a quality life so dramatically affected by traffic. All we heard during the campaign from police was it doesn't matter who you love as long as you can fix our traffic gets cetera. Remember him on the show a few days after the election. And and I asked him about his plan for the highways, and he said, well, we don't have one right now. And I said, what are you kidding me? It doesn't even have a plan. He obviously has no intention of making that a priority. And I don't think that's going to set very well either with that alone justify a recall, of course, not it wouldn't generate the energy to generate a lot of anger, but it wouldn't generate the energy, but on top of that going after people's religious liberty going right at the heart of the economy going after second amendment. Rights so viciously take going right at the right to vote for president not that combination that I think could be a deadly combination for police in a recall campaign. So anyway, hey, the mayor kind enough to join us we'll spend the next segment with the mirror on this show of monument, and we will talk at length about what can be done what can be done to reverse. This just outrageous action of Jared police in the Democrats to give your presidential vote to the people of California. And then I'd like to find a minute or two to talk about what you wanna hear CNN asks John Hickenlooper tonight. And remember, the key is the follow up questions. Let's speaking of monument, we're going to have the mayor right after the break. Let's go to Joe in beautiful monument. Colorado, you're on the Dan capless show. Welcome. I'd like to hear them ask Hickenlooper is he is so proud of tyrod economy. I would ask does. She regret his decision on a gun bills. Now that my police left the state we lost all the jobs with back Paul who's now running tree shifts keep up since they are now, the exclusive. A standard magazines for the army and the marines. And you know, I'd love to hear mass kicking Looper will governor the murder rate in Colorado rose seventy one percent during your tenure as governor organized crime up four hundred percent traffic.

"Pat, gray. So Colorado has become the latest date and the first swing state to join a group pledging to elect presidents based on who wins the national popular vote trying desperately to navigate the electoral college. Yeah. And also trying to put their own citizens on the outs eleven other states and the district of Columbia have signed on to the national popular vote. Interstate compact. The end PV. I see which is so catchy. Just rolls right off the tongue the nip Vic died, the the the the the nip Vic it agreement that requires those states to select their presidential electors based on who wins the most individual votes nationwide, regardless of which candidate wins, the state is negatives. Yes, you're states vote house stupid. Governor Jared polis signed the Bill Friday bringing the state into the compact. It goes into effect only wants states with at least two hundred seventy electoral votes. The number needed to win the presidential election have signed on and Colorado brings the count now to a hundred eighty one they're less than a hundred away. I know I this at all. Two to seventy before. Now, they say to two hundred seventy before the twenty twenty election appears unlikely, but they had zero just a little while ago. Fatten Hon, this was fast my goodness because a couple years ago, and they some people talking about getting rid of college. It was just kind of in passing. But the Democrats are they're angry because in two thousand gore 2016. Yeah. And my goodness. Now, you've got that's a mainstream idea. You've got presidential candidates talking about this. Elizabeth Warren's ready to get rid of it. My gosh, they definitely have momentum. You're right that momentum with same sex marriage. And they got that done. They had momentum on marijuana. They've pretty much got that done that fights basically over. Now, something that you just I mean really believed impossible just to short time ago is really possible if not likely. People stand up for the constitution here. This is really dangerous stuff. Supporters say that concept would create a fairer basis for presidential elections by essentially going around the electoral college and creating system where each individual vote counts the same. It would also motivate potential voters in non swing states to come out to polls, they say, I don't see how when you know, your entire state's election may be voided by who wins the national vote. And so Democrats can now they don't have to focus on individual states for their voter fraud. They can just go anywhere. They just need to get that number higher anywhere. It again, if if the electoral college doesn't matter say goodbye to any campaigning in small states..

"Over at townhall, Courtney O'Brien former attorney general Eric Holder has suggested to his fellow Democrats. One way to put their stamp on American history. Especially in light of Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, President Trump's agenda historic span the supreme court. He made the far fetched proposal last week at Yale Law School and Columbia University. Now, I'm telling you. Both Kirsten gillibrand and Pete buddy. Geek, the mayor of south bend, Indiana have suggested they could support this. But a gig said he got the idea from the Yale Law journal, Yale Law journal, you idiot. Was tried in the nineteen early late. Mid nineteen thirty s late nineteen thirties. Let's see. But again, it's not one for political tradition. He also promoted abolishing the electoral college. So now holders behind Jill. Lebron is behind it. Because she's behind anything that she thinks will help her. Then we have this. From our friends at five thirty eight. Nathaniel wreckage. The national popular vote initiative seeks to set up an interstate compact that would effectively doing Enron around the electoral college without actually abolishing it because you see, ladies and gentlemen, they don't have the votes to amend the constitution. So they don't bother. Which require the lengthy laborious process of building broad bipartisan support to pass a constitutional amendment. The logic behind the compact is that the constitution already give states the power to award their electoral votes, how they see fit. So each state that signs on to the compact degrees to award its electoral votes to whomever wins the national popular vote not necessarily the candidate who wins that state. So a candidate can win your state. But the electors vote for the other candidate because the other candidate won the popular vote throughout the country. How do you how do you like that completely undermine state authority? There's just one catch. They write the agreement only goes into effect when the states who've joined or with a total of two hundred seventy electoral votes enough to deliver an automatic victory to the popular vote win a currently eleven states. Plus the district of Columbia representing one hundred and seventy two electoral votes have signed onto the compact, but Colorado, and it's nine electoral votes are our prime to join in the next few weeks. The state house and Senate recently passed the Bill and governor Jared polis has said he will sign it. That would bring the total number of signatories to thirteen and the electoral vote count up to one hundred and eighty one two thirds of the way to seventy. Now, the compact just needs to bring on enough new states to get eighty nine additional electoral votes, and it would radically change how the United States picks its president. So there's that radically changed the supreme court radically change how the United States president. Now, we also want to radically change how we create congressional districts and Eric Holder and others behind this clothing. Barack mill house Benito Obama. This is from Fox News from a few weeks back. Former President Barack Mel house Benita Obama. Nonprofits, nonprofit political organization is teaming up with his former attorney general holder to launch a campaign against gerrymandering. The all on the line campaign, which will also work to protect the Affordable Care Act reduced gun violence. Expand voting rights is part of a push in recent years by high profile Democrats took a tail the use of gerrymandering across the country. Now, why would they support this? Well, I'll tell you why. Because they go into court against the administration that says only citizens should be counted in the census why? So when you in portion the number of seats that each state gets in the house of representatives that that's only based on the numbers citizens. It's not based on citizens that can be based on any human being who's here, including legal aliens. That means that these dark blue states that are welcoming to illegal aliens, we'll have more congressional seats than those states that uphold immigration laws, enter not importing or welcoming illegal aliens. You said this is all an effort to truly destroy Representative government. This is all really an effort to destroyed crucial pieces of our constitutional order while you really have to laugh or cry. When you hear the Democrats talk about impeachment. When you hear the media give this voice when he talked about obstruction of Justice. When you hear Republicans aren't sure if the national emergencies hack should be employed in order to secure the border,.

Midterm election results begin to pour in

"Were so angry about Merrick garland, President Obama's supreme court nominee who never got a vote in the Senate. He never got a vote because Republicans had control and majority leader Mitch McConnell had the decision of we will hold a vote on him. We won't hold vote on him. He decided not to hold a vote. It didn't happen. So with Republicans maintaining control of the Senate that means McConnell will be able to hold votes on a whole lot of judicial nominees for President Trump. They can continue putting conservative judges on the court. And if the Democrats do take back control of the house and pass a permanent fix for for Dhaka. Recipients are or many of other things that that Democrats want to do that means that the Republican Senate can just not vote on it or vote for something else. And here's one more thing if Democrats want to push impeachment the idea that a Republican controlled Senate would vote to convict a president who's been impeached by the house is somewhere around zero percent. And how close are Democrats to their goal of retaking the house we've been saying Twenty-three seats need needed to take control of the house. How far along are they at this hour of the night about halfway there? They've picked up about a dozen seats at this point in time. And that puts them in pretty good track considering some any of the key races. Democrats thought would be that first wave seats. They pick off are out in California. Where polls haven't closed yet. How are they doing in the governor's races? They're doing pretty well as well. They have picked up gubernatorial seats in Illinois. And I believe Michigan as well. Democrats have picked up seats there. They've also defended seats in Colorado. Jared polis won the open governor seat. There Ohio had been a race. They'd been getting a lot of tension. Richard cordray had been re leading a lot of poll. He's the democrat running for governor on. Hi, oh, he's actually trailing the Republican Mike dewine right now by about seven points, which is notable since Sherrod Brown. One a really easy reelection in the Senate race. No a couple of the most prominent governors races. We've been watching in Georgia and Florida still too close to call that is right Florida is basically fifty fifty Republican Rhonda Santa's has a fifty to forty nine percent lead over democrat, Andrew gillum and in Georgia. Let me just scroll to that on my screen. I think I would remember if we'd call that race. Yeah. But with sixty seven percent reporting Brian Kemp, the Republican is leading Stacey Abrams. The democrat fifty four to forty five percent that would be notable. Because nearly every poll had that race neck and neck. Well, we're going to hear more about Georgia actually in right now. Bill of Georgia public broadcasting is with us, and he can tell us. More about that Bill. I'm Michelle good to talk to you. So how's it looking there? Well, I think you've got to be careful about the margin that you're hearing right now in the Georgia governor's race because the big metro Atlanta counties, which are predominantly, of course, democratic are still those precincts are out in big numbers. Dekalb county one of the state's biggest and most powerful democratic counties. Very few of the votes. Counted their Fulton County Clayton county counties in the immediate metro area. And what what you have to have had had seen was kept building up. The kind of Lee showing right now across rural Georgia to withstand the. Influx of democratic votes. So I think it's really fair to say that race right now really is way too close to call. And just remind us if you would have why it is that people are so interested in this race. I'm gonna take my colleague more licenses instruction here, and and not call it a waiver. But, but you cannot ignore the fact that there's been tremendous excitement about this race from all across the country excitement and anxiety, and and actually some anger and tell us why remind us of why I think there are several reasons number one, of course, Stacey Abrams if she wins would become the first African American female governor in the United States. She's also running as a progressive democrat Democrats run as real Democrats in Georgia. They run to the right. And in the last decade, plush it hasn't gotten anywhere. Jason Carter tried to do that. When he ran for governor in two thousand fourteen Jimmy Carter's grandson, he didn't get very far. So Stacey Abrams is come in and said, no, no, no, I am basically a liberal Democrat. And I'll run his one Brian camp runs as a very conservative Republicans. So you've set up a dynamic here that we have not seen in Georgia for a very very long time. And I. Has made for a really exciting race. I'm sorry. You didn't mention Oprah. Could we mentioned? I just think we should mention Oprah. Because once you do that at and who came in to what campaign for Stacey Abrams. You know, Oprah told the crowd she did to events
