"We frog for a week straight. So you got fat from fried left. I was thin and she came back. I was fat because I ate fried frog like twice a day. I know a lot of people, a lot of kids in school get pretty portly from beer, you know, because there's so much sugar and beer. So everybody, this is Carrick with ACG and we are here with the live best gaming podcast number 419. Got a bunch of rumors, Spider -Man stuff, celebrating gaming order here to change the game a little bit. That's my plan is to make it a little bit more about celebrating gaming for friends talking about titles, talking about good stuff that almost sound like I said, talking about titties, but talking about titles, talking about games, titties, enjoying ourselves, hanging out, boobies and games. We should have an entire podcast just about boobs. There's a bunch of stuff. Actually. Oh, yeah. Definitely. Other shit. They were all they were just talking about tits, dude. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes it gets a little horny there. Sup, everybody? Thank you very much. Carrick should honestly do audiobooks. Maybe I will, man. Maybe. Maybe I'll read a couple of audiobooks, make some money on the side. B Sparks is in here. Josh Carey, a herpa, a herpa is in here. I don't know what that means. A herpa. No. A herpa. Dye Phillips is in here. Hush out ghoul as always. Welcome Deon. Jimmy Dean man. Bunch of people I see all the time, which is pretty, pretty crazy. Make sure to tweet out that we that we're doing this if you want to. And if you don't want to tweet out anyway, damn it. Let's see. Let's start. First, let's start with what we've been playing. Jay Mann, Jay, Jay Meister, full arena, Jay Perry, the source reps. I haven't talked to you all week about what you've been playing. I think I've either seen silver or seen Abzi talking about, but I don't think I've seen anything from you. What are you? We haven't talked this week. I think in the discord. I've been playing a lot of Lords of the Fallen and I know, you know, there's been a lot of negativity around it and I get it. It does have some issues, but I do think it has a lot to offer that, you know, has some cool mechanics that I've been discovering things that the game doesn't write out, tell you you can do, but you kind of naturally discover like some stuff, for example, you know, you, you could put on the lantern so that you see the platform that only exists in the world of the dead, then you get on it and then you remove the lantern and it goes away. So, so then that allows you to maybe drop in some hidden places and find loot and stuff like that. And there's a lot of mechanics around that. So it's not just a gimmick, you know, it's integrated into all aspects, even combat too. So certain bosses will have different reactions to those lantern abilities and some of them unexpected and, you know, can really help turn the tide as well. So it's, I think, very clever. A lot of cool stuff there. I do have to say, though, I don't know how you guys feel about like souls stories. There's something about it. Every single time I jump into it and I'm like, dude, I'm excited, right? I'm going to read every description and then that lasts like two hours and I start skipping dialogue. I just like there's something that's like Lords of the Fallen has bad VA, right? You know, it's I would say it's hit or miss. There's some good ones, but then there's some pretty yeah, pretty like, you know. What are they? Are they I'm reading at a at a table read sound or is it not fitting the character? It is kind of like found it in a couple, a few, a few. You know, there are some really great ones. That's the thing. So it's kind of like hit or miss. And the setting is great, is very interesting. It's awesome to explore. If you like getting lost in the world and figuring it out and stuff like that's awesome. You can get in there, do all that. But I got to tell you, the new game plus is basically unplayable to me because you don't have bonfires in new game plus. Right. Yeah. We did talk about this. So you have to create them, right? Well, but here's the thing that doesn't work because you can only have one bonfire that you create in the Umbral world. You can only have one at a time. So the whole point of the bonfires is not as much as a checkpoint. You know, when you kind of learn the game, it's more a way to traverse the world effectively. Without that, there is a central hub that you can kind of cross between places, but there is a great deal of backtracking you're going to have to do and trudging through areas over and over. That sounds like not fun. Yeah. I don't know why they did that. That could be a cool mode, like a challenge mode or something, but I would never play the game in that way because I love traveling back and forth like, oh, did I miss something here? You know, let me go back farm that location that was really useful, right? I like doing that, you know, quickly. People in chat, do you feel the same way? I would say for me, in game plus, I like the switch ups. I like that people are doing different stuff with Starfield and you see that that is true. Yeah. I mean, that field based. That's pretty hard. That's pretty that that's like in game plus, plus, plus at that point, like that's pretty rough. They did warn us. They I do remember us talking about this about three weeks ago where we had seen the post about the end game plus having that. So I mean, it's what it is. It is what it is. Yeah. Has that been it? Lords of the Faun? Yeah. And I played a little bit of Spider -Man today. Little bit of Spider -Man. OK, we'll talk about that in a second. What about you, Silver? What have you been playing? Nearly exclusively Cyberpunk 2077. I started a new playthrough on the 2 .0 patch and some of the Phantom Liberty content. I really like a lot of the changes to the 2 .0. I really like that grenades and health packs have become cooldown items now that they're not like consumables. I think that flows really well into the game's combat system. I really still enjoy that the different builds and different gameplay aspects, whether you play as a netrunner or stealth or like gung ho, they're all fun. This playthrough I focused on being gung ho, so like ripping off machine guns, instagipping people with machine gun fire, which gets really, really satisfying and really, really fun. So the multiple ways to play it, it's become one of my sort of favorite games to pick up and play. It runs beautifully on the Xbox Series X by now. Absolutely gorgeous game on there, particularly in the display mode. I forget what it's called, like the fidelity mode, whatever it is. Don't mind playing it in 30 FPS, it runs and plays fine in that for me. The game just looks absolutely gorgeous in it. But I am disappointed that like for PC, they haven't addressed the key mapping issues at all in the 2 .0 patch. You still do not have full key mapping functionality for Cyberpunk's PC port. That bugged the shit out of me. I had to do a mod for that. You can't remap keys for like the netrunning and stuff like that. It's really, really bothersome to me, particularly as like a key accessibility feature that you should be able to remap your keys for PC port. Yeah, sorry about that key thing. Did you find that when you're talking to people in dialogue and you can walk at the same time your W and S while you're walking changes the dialogue option and there's no way to change that other than a mod? No because I don't use W and S for movement, I use the arrow keys. Oh, does the arrow keys not change the dialogue options? I didn't find that. I always use the mousecroller. I didn't tend to use movement a lot. Yeah, you had to do like an I and I edit to stop that from happening. Also, I don't actually use keyboard and mouse for Cyberpunk's PC version because of the lack of key mapping features, so I use gamepad for it. Yeah, there was a lot of bothersome stuff when it came to keybinds, 100 % yeah. I also played some Spiderman 2 today. What about you, Abzi? Yeah, I played some Spiderman 2, but my highlight this weekend, honestly, is modded Red Dead 2, dude. Last podcast you told me about a couple mods and I went ham, there are so many fucking amazing mods for Red Dead and it just completely changed the game for me. It's like I'm playing the game and I'm like, this is a benchmark game overall. This is a game that no game has reached the levels of in terms of detail and immersion, what you can do in the game, especially with these mods. So I downloaded some visual mods, a visual overhaul and all that stuff. I also downloaded this thing called PED damage overhaul, so enemies are no longer squishy, you know what I mean? So it's like, even you, you know, I was going to point that out both ways, low TTK. It also does it so that the enemies are less accurate, like more, more believably accurate. And while they lose health, they lose accuracy as well. And they bleed, right? Didn't you say something? Oh, yeah. So the other one I got was, was all shots cause bleed outs. So now like, like bullets cause people to bleed. The big one though, is the W E R O, which stands for something, but it's euphoria somewhere in there, which improves the ragdoll mechanics and everything, the locational damage reaction. So if you hit someone like in the knee, he goes like to the ground and kind of holds his knee and stuff as opposed to like your stomach or whatever. And it's really, really accurate. It's insane. Another one is immersive scenarios. And that one is fucking crazy. You talked about it last time. Yeah. Incredible. Yeah. It lets you do any activity that an NPC can do that you can't because it was locked to the NPC. So you could like lean out a wall and smoke a cigarette. You can interact with like every item you can see. It's very, very contextual. Like you can do a lot, but what, what really surprised me was how detailed it is. It was, they carried through the quality of detail from rockstar into the mod. So like, for example, like when I sat down around a campfire to light this cigarette, wasn't just an animation of him smoking a cigarette. He rolled the cigarette and started smoking. And when I pressed end, I expected the animation to just end and go back to walking normally, but no, he kept the cigarette lit up, held the cigarette with him as he was walking. And then a new contextual thing came up where I could smoke wherever I want. Like there are little things like that, depending on where I'm looking, because where the camera is, is where his face is looking. So depending where I'm looking, he smokes differently and all the, all the animations work properly. It was fucking insane, man. Immersive scenarios it's called, and it's really, really well done. And then I got a crime and law rebalance, which rebalanced a lot of the wanted systems and stuff like that. I basically made it so that if you hit someone with your horse, the cops aren't going to come after you. There are a lot of different, like improvements. PETA ran that game prior to that mod, man. Yeah, exactly. You bump somebody with your horse and it's like, oh, what are you doing? The world came after you. Yeah. And then I got some gameplay ones such as I can rob whatever bank I want. And I can, I can purchase houses and I can also, you know, the system of the, the bounty hunting system. Now there's like a couple of quests of bounty hunting in each town and made it an, an emergent what do you call it? A radiant thing. So like you can keep just doing bounties if you want. Yeah. So fucking amazing. You can go to Nexus mods or like they have their own, own mod website for tech. There's just a lot of really, it just heightens the game all around. It's awesome. That's very cool. And then Spider -Man. Well, you said Spider -Man. So you did Spider -Man, you did Red Dead, anything and then anything other than those two for the most part? No, that's it. Other than that, like my, my big game this month that I'm looking forward to is Alan Wake too. So I'm just, I'm just passing time until that comes out. Yeah. Um, Brandon has an amazing, probably the best super chat that's ever been asked. So we got to go over this. He says, would you rather get 1 billion to never masturbate again or 100 every time you masturbate? That's such an easy answer. That's an easy answer. Come on. Come on. I'd be at a billion pretty quick, but yeah, billion pretty quick. Plus you also, you also have, um, income that is reliable and you can do it whenever you want. It's a job. It's a job. Yeah. You're like, I got to make 200, 200 bucks today. So this is a tough month. We're going to allocate some time here. Testosterone's low. I'm just not feeling it today. I mean, dude, I can make a thousand a day easy with that. Oh my God. Okay. Well, there we go. Um, anyway, uh, amazing, uh, super chat even at a thousand a day that we're still taking quite a while to reach a billion math on that one. Yeah. Yeah. Let's not throw the calculator up. Hash, uh, how shall Google $5 super chat? If you can choose a radioactive animal or insect to bite you, which would you choose? Oh, but you choose the power you get from that. Okay. Cause I was saying, seriously, if you just get bitten, that just suck balls. But uh, yeah. Okay. So you get bit by a road beetles or a, Oh dude, Bombardier beetle that shoots acid. Hell yeah. Hydrogen peroxide. Like the poop beetles, the ones that are just like curling poop, that's your super power. You can just like roll poop really well, dude. I'd be, this is the honest truth, man. I'd probably turn out looking grosser than I do now, but score, I'd probably a scorpion and I grew up just awesome stinger or something like that. Or maybe you want, you want a, well, he didn't say you will grow one because Spiderman didn't really grow eight or eight arms either. You know, I think someone would be like, yeah. Or bite them, I guess, but I always liked scorpions, man. Scorpions are frigging awesome. Like, uh, but what about you guys? Is there any animal that you or platypus man? Cause those dudes are incredible platypus, man. I want to get bitten by a rabid dog and then I want to be afraid of water. That's my power. That's useless. That would be legitimately useless. You would just be a dirty mangy animal actually hindering you. You just explained chupacabra. No the joke was that it was rabies that I wanted to get rabies. You would be, you would be inflicting rabies on enemies, dude, I'd get bit by an elephant and amazing have memory. Yeah, I'd get bit by an elephant and just be like, yeah, eidetic memory or whatever. Just like sperm whales are pretty goddamn amazing. Sperm whales are also ultimate boss battles in the, in the deep between giant squid. Oh dude. Oh, a giant squid getting bit by like a squid would also be pretty cool. Squid man. See, that's the problem is we don't know what you would look like afterwards. That would affect. That is otherwise it would go like, like somebody said, an eagle. It's like, yeah, I mean, it, you know, if you want to look noble and shed, it probably would be enough by a sperm whale and become captain they have. Yeah, well, true. Yeah, you still look human. When you look at all the like Batman, you know, not in other than the fear of bats and stuff like that, especially as a child. It is interesting though, that most of the time they don't, you know, the villains are the ones that get mutated the worst. And you can sort of tell that when you look at it, it's like, so it depends on how much you mutate. Like I said, Spider -Man didn't grow eight arms. You know, he built the suits that do that or people built suits for him. But yeah, different animals would be very cool. I mean, it's like that's the crux of what, 90 percent of superheroes, maybe not 90. But yeah, a lot of them. Yeah, a massive number of superheroes. It's always about animals and stuff like that. But anyway, the radiation thing, right, that you see that so much, dude. Yeah. And it's like like real life radiation. You just get cancer and die. But in the in the comic book, you go green. And yeah, I remember it's like in an old Spider -Man comic, like there was like a male section where people were mailing questions for like one of the editors. And there was a funny question. I still remember where how Sandman got his powers, whether he wrote a radio active sandwich. Oh my God, that's actually a good idea. There's a Chevy Chase movie from the 80s. I don't know if, you know, none of you guys probably know that other than maybe Silver, but he has radio radiation hit him and he gets powers. And at the time, he like uses it to have sex with a woman, uses these powers for all this crazy stuff. And I remember even as a young kid going, dude, that's not how radiation works. That's not OK. Yeah. It's sort of retrain myself to not take it serious because I love Chevy Chase. But even as a kid that didn't pass the sniff test that I think radiation, it was probably after Chernobyl. And it's like, you know, so it's like it's post Chernobyl kind of stuff. But prior to that, oh, sure. I thought, you know, radiation, man. It's like or, you know, gamma rays, gamma rays. Yeah, that's exactly what I was doing. Gamma rays. And you're like, oh, do gamma rays. I love Samuel L. Jackson says that when somebody says, oh, it's just gamma rays. And he's like, gamma rays can be dangerous. And it's just like a double a double awesome hint. Reptiles can grow back tails. Some people are talking about that. How about a rabbit? I could be so cute. You just die from looking at me. Get bit by a crocodile. Crocodile. What? What is it? What is he just called? I mean, you have croc killer. You have killer croc. Thank you, Batman. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Wait. Something like weird popped into my head. It's like a very, very weird type of thing to say, like a stoner type of thing to say. But Batman, has there been like a vampire Batman comic thing? OK. OK. I'd never put two and two together like he's a bat and vampire. It wasn't based on purely that. It's the one where the virus I just talked about it in discord about six months ago, I started reading it. But it's where this vampire virus spreads across everybody. And so they all get it. And Batman is trying to save people. Then he gets it. It's not infected. Does anybody know the name of that comic line? Because it's a massive comic line. So anybody in chat, you know the name of this comic line, but it's a massive comic line that involves that. I don't know if there's been separate ones, though, you know, like or where he truly gets bit by a vampire. But you do have a saying. Is that right? Mm hmm. No, Morbius. Morbius. No, that's that's the other one. That's the movie. With man bats. The other one I was going to bring up. You came and left so fast, dude. That meme was like a five minute meme. Yeah. The morbid the morbid time, Morbius. And people posting gifs of the whole movie on this literally they go the whole movie in a gif. Really? Yeah. I never saw that one. That was Jared Leto, right? Yeah. Dude, there was also I don't really have an issue with him. Every single Star Wars movie in the gift, but like 10, 100 X speed or something. Oh, really? Just super. That's just like the whole all all my movies, people ruin people. People try to ruin stuff a lot, man. I saw it with the last bit. Deceased. Yes. Thank you very much, guys. Spike the bloody deceased. And it's honestly it was very. Yeah, exactly. I knew it. You know, dude, I want to see like a Vladimir to push like Dracula, Dracula crossover, where they join up. They take join up. Yeah. Oh, deceased is zombies. You're right. You're right. You're right. There is a vampire one then, for sure. But the one you guys are right. I'm talking about deceased because they're tearing superheroes in half. Like it's basically the boys kind of thing, you know, where they go that extra step. So let's talk about Spider -Man. So we've all played it. Yeah. First of all, what are you guys thoughts? We'll go we'll go with the length of time, the shortest first. So Johnny, you played at the shortest amount of time, right? Sounds like just a little bit today. Couple hours today. So what a great first impression. Yeah, right. Go for it. You know, I really like how those guys do story. There's something about it. It kind of flows really well. In all of their games, I've had this thing where you can kind of go through it and have a great time, even though we talk about Mary Jane and we give her a lot of shit. And I do think in this one, she seems like, again, it's very early, but I didn't get that big manipulative vibe that you talk about from the first one last game. Yep. Right. Yeah. So in this one, it's like, you know, okay, we're a team, you know, let's make this work because Peter is in tough times or whatever. And I have a much better feeling about this Mary Jane than I did that other one that was it kind of was a very self -serving character. She was very driven about her career, but it was like everything was an instrument for her to, you know, to get the story she wanted. Absolutely. It's a good, good point. Yeah. And I just, the other thing I noticed is how awesome the performance mode is. I really just highly recommend people at least try it out because once you go into the performance mode, I think it's pretty hard to come back swinging in that is, you know, it's amazing. And then switching back and forth like, okay, I'm going to do some stuff with Miles now in this district, whatever. And you know, the suits have styles, which I'm such the greatest thing in the world. Yeah. Like a, just a palette difference, you know, cause you like the suit, but you're maybe a bit bored with it, change the color, wrench into things and yeah, go green. You know, like there's some unexpected colors in there. I absolutely love the stuff with the suits. And so far, I liked the idea of having the common skill tree for like both of them and then each have their own as well, because I was wondering how they were going to do that. And I thought that was a good way of putting that together.

Media Hides Major Bank Run Threat

"Media is probably getting calls from the Treasury Department right now. I guarantee you the big uglies, CNN, even the people running the Apple news desk, NBC. I can almost guarantee you the Treasury Department's PR side, the communications director. They are working the phones saying, hey, can you just downplay the bank story? It's okay if you cover it. Just don't lead with it. And apparently it's working. I mean, they do mention it on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, but what catches your attention here. Front page of The Wall Street Journal is some freak wearing a cat uniform at the Met Gala, a Jared Leto, Leto, next set, Anne Hathaway, and Salma Hayek. So it's working. The lead should be. Not some Doja Cat thing. Again, I've joked around for a while that we're living through The Hunger Games. This is confirmation that The Hunger Games were awfully prophetic. Again, they do cover it, but it's as if your eyes go away from it. First republic sees sold to JPMorgan on page of The New York Times, B one, so it's buried because the front page of The New York Times, they're leading with Ukraine. Anyway, they do cover the bank issue, but you could tell it's not the emphasis. Somebody is lobbying. Somebody is working the ropes of these media companies. And there's a reason for it. We're on the precipice of a major bank run institutional and institutional bank run. Now, you know this, I hope you know this. The money in your bank account is not actually there. The money in your bank account is just a promise. It's a promissory note. It is a fractional reserve banking system. It works as long as everybody doesn't go and withdraw their money all at once. So the fall of first republic bank should be a lot bigger on the wall street journal than the eye candy distraction smoke screen, Doja Cat person. But somebody at the Treasury Department and quite honestly, you can't blame them. Is trying to just kind of tamper this down. You can cover it here or there, but do not engage in panic.

"You have a scene where she escapes from someplace and a minute after nobody seems to care. Yeah. Like how does that make any kind of sense? Jan she also, I mean, you know, like one of the times she tells off a guy like four times, she's like, fuck you, he's like, hey, do you want to do this? She's like, fuck that. Hey, do you want blah blah blah and then he's like, hey, do you want to go on a tour around the city? It was just like, there's a lot of characters. Around that same time frame as well. There's a very, there's some very weird characters in there. I was telling the guys in the Discord. It's like, a Mario, why don't you go what with me? Somewhere. And I'm like, man. I mean, this character, when he shows up, you're like, that's mimicking Jared Leto in the Gucci movie. Yeah, exactly. You don't speak Spanish by adding an ode everything. Perfect Spanish burrito. It's so bad.

"Adam West. Adam West is a good choice though. Underrated Batman. I think about that. The bat tuci. The pure west. But I would go, Joker was, man, that's tough. Jack. See Jack's my number. Yeah. I'm gonna go Jack. Number one guy. My number one. Guy. I'll go, Jack. I'll go Mark Hamill, and then Heath Ledger. Pop three. Jared Leto is a distant tenth. I honestly kind of forgot about him. And I don't mean that rudely. He was like, I just been like, I didn't even think about him. I wouldn't even consider him a Joker character. No. To me. No. He's barely a Joker character. I'm just gonna hurt you real. Bad. It's almost peewee Herman ish. I just didn't like him with the grill and all the tats. I'm like, ledger made it his own, but Leto tried to do the same. And I was like, oh, no. I mean, that might have been David ayer as well, but whoever followed heath ledger was going to have a hard time. Yeah. So we knew it was going to be a throw away. Duncan on him. He is a good actor. I've seen him in other things. Maybe not morbius. I think walking Phoenix following that up is like, that's the Joker we needed after Leto. I agree. We knew Leto was going to be a throwaway because he was the one that followed heath. I'll still watch Suicide Squad like director's cut if they ever drop it. No. The air released the Snyder cut. Release. If I'm really drunk, I might do that. If I'm too drunk to know what I'm watching. You'll do a four hour Snyder cut. Cut of suicide. Squad. Yeah, it's been another episode of cinema. God. Congrats with a guy that really has today. It has been. But we think you guys very much tune in next. We'll do a special breakdown and or. So for our Patreon customers. So thank you guys very much. Great movies only drunker. And lots of whimpers. Well, the next time. Well, be sure to listen right and subscribe at Apple podcasts, Spotify, cast box, or wherever you listen to your podcasts. "To cinema veno. We're going to talk a little bit about morbius going to do a little mini podcast. Mini pod. So Travis and I have seen it and we're going to talk a little bit about our thoughts on it. You can also look and catch my review at Todd waffle movies dot com. Hear my very strong opinions about it. But I'm curious to hear Travis opinion first. We'll do as best we can to do spoiler free because it just came out a lot of people haven't seen it yet. General thoughts on it. What did you think? So vampire movies and superhero movies are right up my alley. I went in knowing I was going to hate this. And I didn't super hate it. It was not good. By any stretch of the imagination, I still thought it was better than venom two, let the re carnage. But there is no intentional humor at all in this film. There's attempts and there are terrible you could go see this and make it a joke with your Friends. It's not great, but I still somehow enjoyed it. Yeah. I thought it was atrocious. But I have not enjoyed venom, carnage. Either one of those part one or two. I did not enjoy this movie. At least. I giggled. I giggled at this one too. Second one, I don't even think I laughed. No, it was just straight up bad. It was a straight up bad movie. I thought this was honestly there were moments in this. It was like, I laughed. I laughed at it. I almost gave this an extra star for how much I left at this movie. It was literally like, there were a few other people in the theater, and they were away at the back of the theater, I was toward the front. So I couldn't tell their reaction, but literally I was laughing at the screen. About how bad this was. I don't want to give anything away, but it's like moments where Jared Leto, his performance was bizarre, I mean, it's like you go back to House of Gucci. I mean, it's like, I can't tell if this is great or it's terrible. I don't know..

"So I love people. I love everyone here. Talk nasty to Andrea, and we're gonna fight. Okay. So Idris Elba, the man who was in Kim's dreams last night, says he's leaning away from his acting career. So he can focus on his other passion, music. Interest so Vanity Fair, some may think well, it will be the death of your acting if your music is. I've dealt with internal struggle over that for over the years. So now I'm at peace and I have chosen. Will his acting career really be over if his music sucks? I don't think but first of all, when did Idriss start singing or playing an instrument? Oh, don't say DJ idris, don't say that's your music career. You're a DJ. If you want to go DJ go DJ after the movie, tell him, look, I can't be here on Fridays and Saturdays. I gotta go DJ. But let me tell you something, idris, I will come for you if you don't go after that part on James Bond so I can see you coming out of the water half naked. You are tripping. You know how many women would be upset with you Idriss, don't you give it up? No DJ. Okay, but if you're gonna sing us, oh, I'm upset. I think if you did what Jared Leto did, you know, separating himself from the music. Jared Leto, the actor, 30 seconds to Mars. Even Garth Brooks, when he wanted to jump from country to something else, he went ahead and did Chris Gaines. Chris Gaines didn't work, but it's still protected Garth Brooks. I think that he's going to get that James Bond moment and that James Bond moment is going to fund this DJ thing. Exactly. Ah, then that makes sense. Set the arrival. She does it. She's acting in singing all of the time. So she can do both. So you can do that. I think it's great though to do what makes you happy. If you have a safety net in the bank and you're able to do that, I really encourage it. I think it's amazing. I wish everybody was able to pick and choose what they want to do. It's the best place to be in. For sure. I would love to see him as Bond too. Don't get me wrong. You can do both. Okay, yeah, you can do both. Thank you. I want to see him on euphoria. Because you know what happens on euphoria. Yeah. That's true. Let's not stop that Bond. Lamar Odom didn't win celebrity big brother, but he can win back Khloe's heart, right? Uh uh. Listen to what he's just told us about his plans to reconnect. A lot of them are like, damn them all. You were talking about Chloe a lot. But I was just only answering the questions.

"Wow, and then Jared Leto doing whatever he didn't you like him in Blade Runner, for example. He was about a Blade Runner. Okay. I'm incredibly excited, Mike for Mobius or Mobius or morbius morbius, yeah. I want to see that. That'll be fun. I think that's one that could work. Somebody brought up something they thought Mike was gonna say and I actually thought too. I thought he was gonna bring up the departed, 'cause marky Mark is in the departed, and that movie as a whole, he is I'm totally reversing what I said because he was very good in the departed. But he was probably himself, 'cause all he did was yell at the other guy. He just called him names and belittled the other character and then shot somebody at the end. So again, I don't know if he knew he was acting. It's almost like somebody said, hey, you want to go play paintball? They filmed him and they put him in a movie. Never quite know if that guy knows what he's doing. But that was a good, that was a good flick. Reading this last one, Dallas buyers club or whatever that one was. Yeah, he was good in that. He was okay. He's just a character playing characters. And half the problem with Leto is that he's like he's overacting. Yeah. If you dialed it back, it would be good. Like if you dial it back, it would be acceptable. Right. Every time he goes out, he's trying for that Oscar. And so he dials it up to 12, and it's just like stuck. They're like, we're going to make a movie called flubber from the old black and white one. And he's like, I'll do it and he overacts and flubber and you're like, seriously, bro, you don't need to do that. But he is a good singer, by the way. He's got his 13 seconds. Ace, incredible music, very good singer, you just can't act with a shit. So anyway, that'll be it for us guys. We went a little long. I wanna let these guys get done so they can do some dying light. I'm sure it's all already 7 or 8 for red and it's 30 here. 9 30 ten 30 p.m. for me. It's ten 30. All right, yeah, so we're gonna let them go. Thank you once again to Mike always welcome to come on the show. It's a blast having you here, getting to talk some inside baseball with you. Always fun to be here. Always cool. Everybody else if you get a chance, check them out at automatic zen on Twitch or on Twitter and he will be doing YouTube. He promises me. Every time he comes on the channel, he's like, I'm going to have to gear up for YouTube, man. I'm like, share yard, dude. Sure you are. Share your that person who every New Year's Eve, you're like, I gotta do YouTube this year. Look. When that happens, I'll come to you first. Exactly. All right. Thank you, everybody for watching. Thanks to these guys for showing up. Peace out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Bye bye..

"Okay, so award season is officially here, the Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. As expected, Nicole Kidman is up for best actress in a drama for playing Lucy in being the Ricardo's obviously none of us has seen it. She's up against Lady Gaga for House of Gucci. K two for her performance in princess die in Spencer as princess Diane Spencer, sorry. Plus, Olivia Coleman and Jessica Chastain noticeably missing though Halle Berry for bruise. Okay, first of all, we'll start with, we both did you see Spencer? No, I didn't see it yet. Do you see any of the movies? I have not seen any of them. I'm just in the preview. Okay, being there cardo is obviously is not out. Yeah. We saw House of Gucci, that looks as good as look. It's like really fun. It's really fun. It's a great film. I really love it. Jared Leto is amazing. Jared Leto was amazing insane. Spencer, how is that? I think it was one of the hardest movies that you had to see through. Really? It truly wasn't good. And I had heard whispers. It wasn't good. I think we both were really. And I am a huge royal fan. Very long winded. It was not a great film. No spoilers, but she did an incredible job. Okay. But the movie was tough. Who do you think out of those ladies is going to get the Golden Globe? Her. You think she's gonna get it? I don't think they're gonna give it to Lady Gaga. There's something to maybe fun about them. I feel like Olivia Colman wins everything. Oh, and Olivia Colman, by the way, Olivia Colman's an incredible actor. I didn't see the lost daughter. But yeah, I feel like that could be Jessica Chastain was really good too. We saw that too that I don't have anything. By the way, it is good that you're here, Tammy Faye. Jessica Chastain was unbelievable. I changed my mind. I just gonna wait. Oh my God. Good. That was very good. Lashes and you see how they oh, it's such a good job. It's really good. All right, on the TV side, squid game. Succession, and the morning show, we're all nominated for best TV series. Are you surprised to see squid game here? I love squid game. Everybody's talking about it. Did you see it? Although Succession, no, I was busy watching Succession. Did you watch the finale last night? I don't tell me. I haven't seen you. Did you started with this season? So I didn't watch the first three. Apparently it is the best thing on TV. Really? Possession is the acting. It's just. I do feel like I'm a part of all the fights when we watch it. Yeah. Like I want to chime in. I'm like yelling at the TV. Who do you think's gonna win, after all those? I think Succession. Things in the game. So good. And it's like so current hyped up. I feel like. I do. It would be a mistake to not give I did not see squid game. You neither, but I will say the morning show. Obviously working here. I feel like there is a lot of similarities. I get very deep into it, the politics behind the scenes. Everybody in the booth, just everything that she's like, that's what it's like. That's what I'm always like, you're getting inside look at what it's like to be on television and be a part of a network. But that woman this season wasn't as good as the last. But the second season is never as good. She's amazing. Yeah, she's amazing. Well, she's also just like that. By the way, Monique, don't rush us ahead. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. You guys, it's gonna be a very different Golden Globes this year, though. NBC, who is the globes in the past will not air the show following controversy over racial representation and other issues related to the Hollywood foreign press. But the organization says they've undergone a full restructuring, so we will see what happens. And still ahead, we hit the carpet with Scarlett Reese and Matthew. And yes, someone's falling off the stage..

"So Travis, if you read off, we got some first names selected. Yeah, for this first names, we have Sebastian. We have a Tucker. We have Evan, we have Brooks. Okay? And now for the last name for a college, like traditional powerhouses, what do we have for last names? St. John, Drake. Marquette. Or is that marketa? Let's market. Okay, market. And creighton. So what would you pick for your 25 year old worth $10 billion and he is out to get, I'm thinking daredevil, who was your bad guy? I like the super short name, like just the Tucker Drake. I like that. The alliteration there. Is that alliteration, if it's in the middle of a word, whatever. Tucker, Drake, Tucker, direct, it works well. You know, he wears bow ties, he drinks PBR. Yep. And he is out to hack the brainwaves. Everyone on earth. And his personal weapon that he keeps on him at all times paddle. Exactly. But yeah, he develops a smartphone app that helps him take over the world. You had a pretty good when you chose the longer names. Yeah, I mean, I was thinking maybe like Evan St. John or Sebastian marquette. That's the one I liked Sebastian marquette. Yeah, those are both solid like villain names. Privileged needs so many letters in his name. Rides his bike. What if marquette is the middle name of Fitz Sebastian marquette St. John? That works. Yeah, he rides his bike to work every day. Lives in a loft apartment. But yeah, just hip, ironic, tech billionaires. That's when they don't have anybody that can put in a movie to be the villain. It's like, yeah, we're going to have Mark Zuckerberg, we the villain. Oh, I also wanted to interject in here. We talked about Joaquin Phoenix, hopping on to the Joker roll again. But also in the same Sony universe, Spider-Man universe, I worked around the campfire is we got Jared Leto or Leto whatever playing morbius the living vampire in the same kind of world. He's also a back in the comic books they couldn't have vampires and zombies and all this other shit. So they got around that by having this guy that's essentially think of it, he's like bitten by a radioactive bat. Not radioactive, but he did something to the bat while trying to cure himself from some weird disease. It bit him, and now he's like, oh, I've taken on the bad characteristics. So we use morbius the living vampire, which is how they got around it. Ego the living planet. Exactly. So we got Jared Leto hopping universes over into marvel adjacent universe of Sony for a while. They're going to try and try and squeeze the juice out of this lemon before marvel takes Spider-Man back entirely. Which is for the best. Yeah. Yeah. It's firing homecoming. It was awesome. And then I've also heard in the news today was the fact that James Gunn might be on to direct Suicide Squad two right and direct since he was unceremoniously let go for marble. Person bullshit. Yeah. Yeah. Stupid tweets back in the day, trying to mean edge lord. Yeah. Yeah. So okay, here's a question. Going into venom? Did you feel like, I mean, I thought the trailers looked horrible for it..

Because i think this is kinda sort of the age old question. Could you take on the mouse. No matter if you're scar. Joe are you who joe or flurry joe. On the mouse. I couldn't do it. But here's the thing she doesn't care she is so much money. She's an alastair. She can work wherever she wants to long point. I think she is doing this for other actors. Who can't speak up because if scar joe never works with disney again. Maybe she doesn't care maybe she just says this is not right even though we're talking about fifty million dollars hi- cloths problems. Everyone deserves their money that they work for the whole industry is changing. And if you're not going to change our contracts that's going to affect a lot of people who make a lot less than me. It is truly when he is his best when he transforms into. Because i feel like he really. He forgets like oh. I'm jay leno. He goes fully into these characters. I think he's going to be at big as acting is also going to be insane but i also love how the real patrizia was like. Yo guys should the gucci family be upset over. What's going on you see. I think that if you know. Like if i was and i knew that somebody is going to potentially beat the somebody new my steph's and was gonna find out some things about me. I will go ahead and make the movie that i wanted. They not mad about that. They met at the casting. Yes it look at. Jared leto look at chino. They're like the least you could do is make them glamorous and beautiful go out with tedo remember what tracey gold came out with the tracey gold story on lifetime and she went ahead. "Yeah it just feels weird to me to if we're talking about the villains just to jump back on that for a second but jody hill would have been a better casting for lex luther if you wanna go. Just of the odd into in africa was still shaved from Playing kingpin throw him in there. Maybe but wouldn't have worked because of kingpin but And i'm i was hoping that jared leto coming back would change my opinion on him but it didn't And bands line that he says to him that i'll wait for see it on his own. But i think you guys know what i'm talking about Kind of caught me off guard. And i don't know that it was necessary and you're being too vague -dult. Yeah a lot of when batman drops the big the bomb when he's talking to him about harley. Yeah okay in what he's gonna do to him and i'm just like was that necessary was at scripted. It just felt a little. It felt a lot of character for batman to me. But you know days in a kind of a desperate time desperate situation so i don't know yeah i'm curious i. I almost wish pat finished up. Because i really looked to see. What do you think about the last fifty minutes. And i'm sorry. I ran out of time. Guys now turned it around. I'm with you loving. Jared Leto on new movie 'The Little Things' and being an Oscar winner

"Hi everyone. I am peter travers. This is popcorn where we tell you. What's going on at the movies. And i saw terrific movie right now called the little things. This is a movie about two cops played by of all people in washington and rami. Malek in search of someone they think is a serial killer in nineteen ninety los angeles and this guy that they focused on is played by my guest today. jared leto. Who usually gives them a run for their money in terms of letting them twist in the wind deciding whether his character is guilty is he. A serial killer is he not. I've got to tell you jared that this is one of my favorite performances of yours. It's it's like a co lassic kind of movie villain that we don't know if he's guilty of what he's accused of but we know is guilty of something definite strange character but he has humor is playful. He's all those things that make you remember character. So did you feel when you first read the script. No i said what is this. I don't wanna do this. I is was actually buy those my response. I thought you know. Maybe i should explore different territory. You know. I played a kind of than the darker side of the moon. A bit and You know. I thought maybe this wasn't the right thing to do And then after talking to john lee. Hancock and i realized that there there could be an opportunity. Here's he seemed really open. I said if we're going to do this together. I'd like to to to kind of use it as an exercise in transformation to to really try to sculpt this this this wild man albert's pharma Into something quite unlike anything. I'd done before so he seemed really game And the prospect to working with denzel washington one of my heroes and then rami malek in the mix. It was just couldn't say no. And what i love about you. Working with them is that yes albert. Your character trump really tries to drive the both of them crazy and with a kind of zen deadpan. That you have yourself you know. There's i don't want to say there's a little of you albert but there's there's some of it in. Yeah sure i've been. You know you you take parts of yourself. Other people Experiences that you've had and you kinda just build this collage you know i it with. Albert's parma was head to toe from the walk to the voice. I had different color is different knows different teeth. I had some other prosthetics different way of carrying myself and it was quite exciting to put this guy to life and to really take risk and push things right up to the edge And hopefully not crossover into absurdity But yeah he is a bit An un unwittingly unknowingly zinn. He is the voice of like maybe a soothing yoga teacher or something does. There's one i don't want to spoil any platt detests. But there's one point where they both taking you to the police station in la. It's an interrogation room and the phone rings and albert says is that for me. You know quite a quite innocent with it. It's that kind of thing that he's open to sort of any moment until he's ready to spring with something that will make denzel crazy. Sic chrissy i. there's nothing more fun than you know. antagonizing the other characters in the film and for spar he knew he uses that as a tool a likes to keep people off balance off center and humor is one of the ways that he does it and it was quite fun to show on saddened to bring all kinds of different Ideas for ad libs and improv and John lee hancock was amazing. Because you know he was the writer as well but incredibly generous with the opportunity to improvise ad-lib and he really just let me go to town. Would you haven't worked with denzel rami before right. No no no. I had an an. I didn't know them Either and i mean what was kind of fun as well as that didn't do any rehearsal like for the interrogation senior talking about that was the first scene with all three of us and the first big seen it was quite intense and intimidating Exciting there was a lot of pressure and it was explosive on sad. It was it was there. Were fireworks going off. It was really exciting to get in the ring with those guys. Everyone came prepared. I think we all knew there was an opportunity there and we all took advantage of it. Well you know all you have oscars so now. Nobody can ask you to do anything. You don't wanna do right. You just hold that thing up. You can take it with you that day. You want you could certainly a casa damage with it It is a you know. Denzel washington said the other day. You know trophies the they it's like when you're a prizefighter that the belt you won the last times not going to help me this time in the ring and Is true you know you you. It's beautiful thing to be acknowledged and winning the oscar. Was you know. An unforgettable highlight of my life and share that with my family and my friends and supporters Through my life was a really special thing. It doesn't help you when you're sitting opposite denzel washington and you've got to

Snubs and surprises from this year's Golden Globe nominations

"The globe. Nominations happened and boy. They'd seemed a mess. How do you feel hi. How are you feeling about words and being back. I guess i'm glad to have award season back though isn't it. We can discuss specific to these nominations. I feel a little bit like charlie brown with the football because every year we talk about make fun of the hollywood foreign press association. And let's be clear we're going to continue to make fun of them. They are traditionally. It's a small group of international journalists. Who do not have a lot of renown really know outside of the fact that they are in this mysterious priests small group of people. They really like celebrities or their definition of another other thing. We'll discuss and their star fuckers and they give nominations to people they want in a room rather than a merit or at least our interpretation of merit. It seems like to win an award. You just have to go to as many parties as possible and then think the association from the stage. We know that there are always bad. Choices always mysterious traces. We're always like what is going on. Who are these people. Why do we do this. But i would say even for the hollywood foreign press association and even for a film here had some challenges aka pandemic theaters being close and far fewer films released unusual. These are real embarrassing. And i woke up just being like. Are you serious. We have to do this again. Like come on yeah i. It's hard to know we've gone through looking glass or not some of these. I think we're fairly standard and expected in their plenty of movies that i'm sure we'll be talking about when we get to the oscar nominations in a couple months but there were a handful of nominations. What what. I will generously called the surprises. That just took my breath away. That i i think even in my wildest dreams i could not have imagined the fbi concocting so. Let's just talk about them because this award show is happening really soon. It's february twenty eight. It's gonna be hosted by. Amy poehler and tina fey. It's going to be on nbc. And so we're going to actually having awards season to cover for real for real. I think we have to start with the jared leto nomination for the little things. This is probably the single biggest. W t.f of this collection and it's funny because when we talked about the little things on the show last week i think we both walked away from the little things thinking. Jared leto is pretty entertaining in it. And maybe rising to the challenge of this camp script and that being said i. I never considered him. A worthy report surprised to see this nomination. I enjoyed watching him in the little things in the context of the little things which was not a film that worked at all and so at least someone was doing something you know and i was talking with friends about it. There's like a really a nice like vintage. This is bad feeling to the little things that i found pretty comforting. You know it's like it's not like someone just made a twitter thread into a movie on an iphone and like someone wrote a script and they tried to do this old ninety staying. And then jared leto is doing the weird villain and having too much fun with it. It's like i know what's happening here even if it's not working and and i'm glad to have it back. I do not know that it needed to rise to the level of golden globes ovation especially because the golden globes supporting category does not differentiate between drama and comedy in some of the comedy. Nominations things get wild. But that's because you're kind of you're filling it out there some extra slots. A lot of people didn't get nominated in supporting actor. Jared leto like weird joke of serial killer. I think he's right. Can we talk about that for a second. This is dangerous rabbit hole to go down. I have no idea. The truth is. I don't know i think you're meant to believe that he did. Not if you haven't seen this movie. Sorry for spoiling it for you. It's unspoiled in many ways because it has an ambiguous ending of sword. I- i- i- jared. Leto obviously is has won an academy award. He is a very famous person has been celebrated. He's also like kind of a joke. You know like. I really enjoy him as a performer. A famous person. But he's kind of a joke. I mean he's he so Has all of the pretensions. And absurdity of the method actor who sort of you know pulling pranks on his cast members by trying to get into character and so outside and so masking his beauty all the time with these ridiculous roles you know like in the little things that character has like a is is fat and walks with a limp and why it's just pure actually affect nation and the role is actually affectation and the asia was impressed by that or impressed. By the idea of having jared sit in on their award show. But jared. Leto is not tom hanks. For example someone who did not get knocked out.

"Bigger in quotes is this guy actually good and quotes actor in Hollywood more than Rani Malik right now. I mean, I think that the acting slash comedic adjacent is quite obvious, right? Probably Pete Davidson. Yeah, but again like you more question like is this guy actually like yeah, but I've never come away from like a Pete Davidson movie being like he he took away my enjoyment like you're watching the Pete Davidson. He's in his life, I guess like yeah, he he knows that he probably know he would tell he was the first person to tell you is like I'm not like a like a distinguished actor, right? Yeah, and I think that you're right. It's probably bigger for Remy Malik and I think that the answer is kind of like I don't this sounds so mean. I just don't think he's a good actor I so I think that off his role in the Bond movie that's coming out this year is going to really make or break how I perceive right now. So we this is we are looking at huge bounce back Malik potential. Yeah. We I mean he very much needs it. I'd like I think that he's had several swings and misses and he needs to make solid contact. Yeah. I'll say in Malik's defense wage. So didn't really think Jared Leto was good. I think the Jared Leto was extremely over-the-top which isn't the reputation you want to keep hammering home. I think the Jared Leto is really driving into that sure, but I also believe it's like we're talking about like something that fits the character that he's supposed to be playing. I do believe that like him being over-the-top served the role here because this was a guy who real weird trying I guess like trying to be over the top and be like, I'm really fucking nutty like, it's just like a I'm a crime buff. Yeah, like he he seemed They didn't take away because I think that that was like part of the role and also like I don't like Jared Leto but I think that that role was like kind of perfect for him. But I think it's the role that he wants to take. Yeah, he saw that and he was like, oh licked the pages. Yeah. It's like, oh boy, I'll grow my hair out. Hey, how about this? Like my hair's got along. How about a girl with the younger one sleep for like two weeks. Yeah, maybe maybe he gains weight for this role. He looks like shit. Yes. He's yeah, I think I was able to see past the agreed performances and just actually try to think about the movie for what it was bad movie and bad movie. Yeah, like the the the storyline what ends up happening at the end, especially the the last seen like I thought the last scene was going to be some sort of answer some sort of reveal it reveals a small little kind of afterthought detail that You there's no like a piffany or like no no like aha. Yeah, like when so it was would it be should we spoil it now? Whatever it's not we don't we don't yet. It's really not worth spoiling would just say like this movie builds for a whole lot a whole long time could call it's a it's like a slow burn slow build kind of thing. And then like you're.

"Malik and Jared Leto. What he asked. Yes, I've heard about this. It's only gonna be on there for 30 days, right? I believe so. It's also tell you I was too okay. Yeah. Yep. Guys, this movie You wanna watch it with someone, or at least go online and discuss because the ending, especially so it's a thriller movie. Who done it, Denzel and Ram me. They both play police officers, and Jared Leto is a his strange He's very strange. In fact, he is the The way he played this character If he had played the Joker that way, I think we would have liked the character more like him as joker more But it's great nineties throwback. There's no cell phones. They used pay phones. The performances were great, but it brings you to the end. And either you feel Wow. That was great. Or what just happened. I'm so confused. And the other thing in the reason why, and I like that. I like movies like that, right where there's a little bit of like what happened because I thought about this all night and on Hill and I talked about 45 minutes afterward, just going through all the different Images that the story lines who done it and we both came up with different answers. Okay. It's s O. Who was Denzel? Who does he book is a police officer. He's the older of the two. He's moved out of the Los Angeles area, but he used to work in that area as a police officer, and you learn a little bit about you know why he has moved why he hasn't been promoted. Randy Malik is the young bright star in the police department right now. And he didn't sells character sees a lot of himself in that character. So there's a little There's a kind of a mentoring thing going on. Then you also have Jared Leto, who super creepy, strange guy. And it's basically did he do it or not? Okay. And it is. There's a serial killer out. It kind of has a seven vibe, too. So, uh, just Oh, man, it It's so intriguing, you guys after right After that, you're gonna want to go online or call someone or watch this with someone because it's so interesting. To see the different points that you pull out versus someone else who's watching the same film and come up with a different answer. You have more questions for sure than you do answer. So if you don't like that in a movie, this is not for you. It's Z s. Oh, there's work to be done by you The viewer. This isn't a passive experience. Is that what you're saying? Yes. Yes. And yeah, you're different takeaways from it. This is a story that really sticks with you. After the first five minutes. I was in I was. I have to know what's happening here. Now. I've also read some reviews about because they're mixed. You know about the ending quickly. But also before that, too, that it kind of drags on, and it's long. It's a two hour movie. Didn't get those vibes, but Just to put that out there. You might feel that way. There is one point in the film to that. I think that whoever wrote it did a disservice to the character because the character would not have done that, okay. Um, that just led to the design health service. Anyway, You said you had different okay? Yep. In that point, there was a point of no return. That that character? Why did that character do that There had to be in a better way to isolate There had to have been, uh, I have no ideas myself. But that was you have to kind of OK and go with it. In order to Enjoy that part of it, but I think that was the only misstep for me. This is the little things on HBO. Max with Denzel Washington. If you just tuned in, Lex watched it over the weekend, and Jared Leto, I think really stole the the movie. He the portrayal of this this guy he's haunting. Okay. You know me, I everything you're describing. I have zero interest in this like this. I'm saying this. I don't know. Oh, I don't think you're gonna love this because it's a crime. It's a thriller. It's Yeah. Oh, it's not like a scary movie. But But then you also like that serial killer documentary. I do like serial killers. So, yeah, I'm kind of on the fence about whether you like this or not rephrase that. I like documentaries about serial killer. Thank you, dog. I'll rephrase that. I am Started thinking. Oh, do you have any prison pen pals with the last God core, Colin? I was a pin, pal. I mean, I did have one little relationship that I tried to keep secret. No, no, thank you, Don for helping me out. Shit. I'm a couple couple speed slow today. Um, but, yes, I enjoy serial killer documentaries and stuff and crime real true crime. But but crime as a genre of film, No. You guys all to watch this, though, so we can talk more about it, okay? I don't mind watching if you Yeah, but whether you like it or not, That's the question, okay, but it does again. I woke up thinking about the story thinking about what happened. Why it happened. It's a deep dive psychologically into the characters, let alone the chemistry between them. There's a lot to talk about. Okay? I would I would watch. You know, e don't believe you, but okay, But, you know, I mean, for the show, I'll do it for the show. You know, Right?.

'The Little Things' stars Jared Leto, Rami Malek, Denzek Washington is a stirring crime thriller

"Denzel Washington Rami Malek and Jared Leto collide in the little things a mystery premiering today on HBO. Max, a jaded detective tracks a serial killer in the San Fernando Valley. It must really like my car. Do I was the trunk space. Denzel Washington gives a complex performance as a cop willing to bend the rules. Unlike his idealistic deputy, Ramsey Malik during a cat and mouse game with Jared Leto's creepy suspect, writer director John Lee Hancock has been trying to get a script made since 1993 feeling like a nineties thriller like the Silence of the Lambs. It's a shame it wasn't made back Then, as we've since seen the same concept done much better in seven Zodiac and prisoners. Still, I'm a mark for this John Rush trying to solve the case, even if we've seen it

"Um okay, So let's move over to, um, the thing that we were just talking about just a while ago. Why are we all talking about Jared Leto right now? Yeah. So he's in this movie called the little things that the on each feel, Max and and feeders. You got that? Don't you calling? I do I have that. Yeah. So start. You know Denzel Washington places better than cop he had back to his old stomping ground in L. A in order to help chase down the serial killer. Before the seventh victim was claim. Robin Malik is the new detective. That's kind of leading the case. So they've got a bad and you've got this new concept by those two. And then Jared Leto is someone they kind of have their eyes on. He's super creepy, super greasy looking. And you had allegedly that he is a killer. And throughout this movie, you're like you see, actually the killer or is this kind of a Mr AC on? Maybe just a token off kind of police blindness, If you well, I don't wanna get too much because it really kind of scratches that age if you like. That kind of grisly crime, psychological thriller serial killers. I do love me a good show color movies eat, right. It just kind of leaves you on edge the entire time.

I have. But I just haven't used again hasn't gotten to her pile of reviewed Netflix selections Kind of like in the old days. We would have, you know, like VHS tapes just sitting there waiting to be watched, like, Oh, no, but I have that I'm gonna watch it. Yeah, Like I'm gonna do it now, which is why we want a shorthand like Oh, I saw what you're referencing or I haven't done it yet. Haven't done it. It's excitable where that it's in the universe. Which is exactly what Jared Leto is doing right now to Billy, I'll ish and and Phinnaeus. It's like he wants to be part of the conversation. He wants to hitch his wagon. To their success, but he doesn't actually have anything to do with it. He just wants you to know he almost did this thing. But he didn't do that thing. Where, like, If you've got a friend. I don't know. I could just see a number of situations where you're like. Oh, no, no. Yeah, I know I'm right. Like if I said to you if you asked me, like, have you ever been to this hot, trendy new restaurant and I said no, but I've driven by it. Or you, my my program called one Oh, yeah. So the question was. Did you do it? You but the answer clearly answers? No, no, right. So I just thought it was interesting. I'm like, Why is Jared Leto? First of all? Why is your little talking so much? What's he in? He's got a new movie out. It's with Denzel Washington. That's going to be on HBO. Okay? Yes, That's right. You're Yes, I have that. Um uh, It's called the little things Yes. I have that, too. But I just think it's so interesting is he's making the rounds. These stories he's telling. And this is not like Jared Leto because Jared Leto is very notorious for trying to be aloof. This is the man remember who was out of town. On some sort of like silent retreat. And came back into town. There was a pandemic. Oh, yeah, and he was like, what's going on? Right? So this is a person who's notoriously aloof. I don't know. It's like he's been advised to tell these Headline gripping stories. I mean, somebody's probably behind. Having him pushed these out, or they're trying to distract from The Is there drug problem? "I guess all I wanna do is cry, really watching football movies. Now that I think of it all emotion, very emotional. Okay. Bad news bears there. There's a laugh. There's one that's not a tear jerk. I know some very hardened guys who don't cry when they're watching a movie who Talk about Rudy and how they are. They're driven to tears every time they saw it. It's such a good movie. It Z such a great movie, and I guess you could say it's got a bit of a local Touch with Notre Dame being, you know, fairly close and so many people in the Chicago area attached to it, But how do you not root for a guy who is just willing to do anything to achieve? His dream. I mean, that's that's that's more than a football movie. That zah life inspirational movie. We've been watching a Netflix Syriza's at our house. Lupin. I don't know if you've heard about this. Yeah, Yeah, it's a retelling of Ah classic French story about A guy who's described is a world famous gentleman Thief and master of disguise. And you know it's dubbed in and this script is kind of unbelievable, but the production is is so good. And the acting is so good that it's kind of compelling. So it's interesting how you know it's like certain aspects of a film like this. Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto movie. On one hand, they're acting is so compelling and draws you in and then you know other parts of the movie kind of let you down a little bit, and it balances off so I mean, you can't. I can't completely trashed a movie that in many ways, compels me and draws me in. But you know, you just go in expecting it's going to be what it's gonna be. "Okay one less title. That's out this week. This went on in theaters and on. Hbo max i believe It's the little things which is a detective thriller. It is both set in the early nineties and feels a little bit like a time. Capsule from early nineties It starts in washington with rami. Malik and jared leto. Three best actor oscar winners. That's kind of a rare sight There it. I enjoyed the throwback quality of it while also thinking it was yet another of the stone cold boomers. We're talking about this week Richard i think you might have enjoyed it. Listen i did even. I didn't like it at all. I really wanted it to be something specific that of that was written in the early nineties. Steven spielberg directed. Imagine so strange are and then. I think clint eastwood was looking at it and deigned veto and finally john lee hancock wrote it decided to make himself twenty seven years later. I wanted it to be kind of one of those nineties. Post silence of the lambs. Serial killer studio thrillers. You know a little grimy kind of silly but like engaging good detective work kind of stuff and it has those trappings but at the center is kind of a weird void at the center. I think it's kind of trying to be about something bigger and fails at that. And so everything else kind of doesn't get its proper do denzel washington's always good rummy. Malik is fine. Jared leto. People people's tolerance level of him certainly varies. And he's really doing a thing you know and i found it engaging for like the first scene and then i was like okay i get it. I don't even more so for me. It was just like it had all these interesting component parts. But the whole didn't really didn't do it for me.

"Well. Megan welcome to manage and cut off. This has been a year overdue at this point. An entire pandemic overdue. Maybe i'm happy that you're here talking to us. I'm really thrilled to be here. Thank you for having me anything so to start. I want everyone to meet you. Because you're awesome So you are a member of space fund. You also have this podcast mission eve. That is fantastic. Can you tell everyone a little bit about you sure. Yeah co founder and managing partner of space fund Where venture capital firm investing exclusively in the new space ecosystem so very kind of targeted fund And then i also have my podcast mission eve which I interview the most amazing women in the space industry. It's just been a thrill and just so much fun to do. And in the hopes of inspiring more women to join us here in the space industry So that's that's a project that's near and dear to my heart I'm also on. The board of several nonprofits needs to do a quick shout out the space frontier foundation. The center for space commerce finance mars initiative and the earth light foundation Spend an inordinate amount of my time helping those at nonprofits. So i think that's probably about it so we're gonna talk about a bunch of different angles on the finance side of stuff which i occasionally touch on but probably not as deeply as i should in many cases there's some fundraising that has happened. In the past year that has been particularly notable for the size specifically spacex relativity. Been getting gargantuan amounts of money there's some acquisitions that have happened recently. And then There's a whole trend of holding companies. That i find quite interesting as well as a trend that i find interesting and more shady. Which is this whole special purpose acquisition friend. Those are the things. I want to pick your brain about. Is there an order. would you like to start with fundraising and then get into what happens after. You've gotten a bunch of funding and actually accomplish things. What's the right order there. Yeah well I think i'd like to start with this kind of startling statistic that that i i like to I like to bring up a lot. Is that One and it's it's one of the reasons that spaceman was founded. Actually is you know. Currently launched comprises less than two percents of the global space economy yet has received seven percent of the venture capital. Today right sounds crazy but it. It makes such intuitive sense to like you know somebody watches the markets but exactly crazy. Yeah that's crazy. Yeah i like it when you hear that you're like oh yeah that seems right but holy crap. That's crazy just hear those numbers right and now the one question i would have is. Does that. include any space x funding as launch. Yes that includes spacex funding and includes the you know that big relativity rounded includes all of that. So i guess that's my that would be. My stipulation is like how. How do you separate out. What of that is going to starlink. zach satellites. Then does that skew it or is it not big enough to actually skew. Anything no matter how you classify either couple billion. Yeah so you know the regardless. It's it's a huge number even if he were to try and take starlink out of the kind of the space x portion of that. They're going to be forty percent of the venture right number exactly exactly and so you know when When my partner. Rick tomlinson and i were contemplating a founding space fund. You know this was one of the things that was really bothering us. We were kind of looking around the industry at all of our our friends and colleagues. Who are these brilliant entrepreneurs going and down sandhill road and couldn't get any funding and meanwhile while all these other. Vc's are just pouring good money. After bad into launch company after launch company because all ilan has launched company and basil's has launched company and jared. Leto is invested in in relativity space so i need a launch company. Right and base fund is currently tracking a hundred and sixty two active launch companies around the world.

Do the celebrities help the startups or do the startups help the celebrities?

"So this week. We saw that josh richards. Who is a tiktok star previously of the sway house which is one of the many tiktok mansions that have kind of popped up over los angeles as influence or homes. Josh richards is joining remiss capital and early stage venture firm as a venture partner. And as i'm sure we will get into not super nudist see celebrities get into venture space. They have huge reach. They can do a lot for especially consumer businesses with a simple instagram story. And so maybe the place to start with with the josh richards. Conversation is like really bullish on this transition. What would we say like what is good about this transition and then we can make the jokes because i know there will be jokes. But let's start with why this makes sense. Alex i okay. I have been critical in the past of celebrity investing. Because it's always struck me as little bit frivolous but i think that's because i underestimated the cultural impact of people of the moment and according to iverson will group text that i'm on with my friends. Talk is the thing. So if you are an enormous star in the tiktok world getting you involved with the company makes a lot of sense and my thought here is that i think in the old as we go to see more endorsements opposed to investments. You know you'd say like we're going to get you know josh richards or charlie delio or bryce. I'm reading the notes price hall to endorse your party to the long tail of knowledge for tiktok star. I see tiktok. But i don't know who the people are because i'm not cool at all but i think now with took being so popular and having so much cultural resonance with people that are out there using their dollars so in mark influence. It's probably reasonable that these people are going from being endorsers to be invested because once they have more money themselves and they have enough power deployed demand a seat at the table to get some ups. I did a piece of the pie. So i want to make jokes but i won't. I'll just say that in the past celebrity has had a mixed track record. But in this case. I think bringing attention via celebrity and tiktok makes sense. Okay danny leterrier pros and cons. And then i will finish this off. I think the big question is always do. The celebrities helped startup or the startups helped the celebrities. I think some celebrities have made a lot of money on their investments by think in many ways celebrities get access and in in many ways. I'm not sure they actually create the value for these companies. But because of the celebrity status they sort of get an allocation the otherwise it wouldn't have been able to get you know obviously if you're having a startup the targets gen z. Tiktok is the platform to go about do that. I just don't think it helps anyone else you know i. I just think about the company's like okay. Let's let's hope about sky flow. You know this is the polymorphic. Encryption data security company. Get josh richards to help. On what i'm kidding. Of course not so its seat and that's ultimately like you know. I think it's always about these brand plays. I'm in new york. We have a ton of successful brand plays because of the so like may richards endorses bro. And its next round and is like the the next to the guy in the commercials. I forget which the famous movie stars was on there. No one knows that this group. We're not that demographic. Danny this is where the show. We're just taking a right to the gutter. I think they're definitely serves. They can use this. I think it's fine to venture partner. Josh has been very entrepreneurial and getting a bunch of stuff out there. But what i've heard. The guy makes f ton of money saving our producers gave them work there but a ton of money doing all these sponsorship deals. I think it's fine. I just think we have to like not change coverage and we focused on in which companies make money based on which celebrities are attached to which companies like. It's always good to go back to the dollars and sense and so. I don't think it changes what we do here at techcrunch. I'm certainly not going to cover story. I actually been pitched stories. That are like gosh. Richards has invested in this company. I was like. I don't know who that is. Take this to not work in my experience talking to celebrities in and around technology events. More broadly i talked to a former doctor who about surface once that was a fiasco but i did. Enjoy my child with jared leto at a boxing event because one. I got to take a picture with him. I was topless now funny and to he actually had some pretty good he is about starts so i think there is the occasional investor who's also celebrity. Who can do some reasonable things. I'm curious to see how this bears out. Ashton kutcher is investments. Have been up and down. So we'll see. But i'm not going to be dismissive of the kids.

"Joker is getting some justice in director Zack Snyder's new cut of Justice League. Snyder had to leave the film due to the death of his daughter. But now he's shooting new footage in order to remake the movie into what he originally intended. It'll air on HBO. Max Leto wasn't even in the original version of Justice Lee, but he's been called into play the Joker in some new scenes. Jared, of course, played the Joker in suicide squad, which was tied to justice. Lee, thanks to an appearance by Ben Affleck's Batman

A Critique of Dallas Buyer's Club

"Let's. Let's Talk About Dallas Buyers Club. I first and foremost all the triggers. Goddamn because everything you thought you knew about this movie you were right and then there's more. There's The the TRANSPHOBIA is there from the characters. It's enacted characters but it's also just that kind of trans-phobia where it's tucked under. Oh, it's actually homophobia but that's because they don't know what to do with someone who presents in a way that is not stereotypical. To one gender or another. and. Yes. So look up triggers for this movie. There are so many that I don't even feel like sitting down and listing them but look them up before you continue to consume this podcast and before you decide to watch that movie. That said, had you either? Have you seen this movie before we went to the podcast first time? For a first time on that radio to. See what I did there. On brand very unbranded. Yeah. It was my first time too. I definitely knew it. As you said, for all the reasons that I knew, and then there were more reasons that I was glad I did until now. Oh Yeah so This movie I have to say because I tried to as much as I'm trashing it as much as I'm like Oh this all this I really wanted to like this movie I went in wanting to like it I remember talking to a friend about this movie because I refused to see it. So I was like, why are people praising jared leto wire people praising his portrayal of Now, I can't remember the name of Rayon why and I actually had to coax it out of a friend because. This was a friend that I respected their opinion on and they basically said they were like, well, you don't actually want to know you wanna be mad and it's like, no I respect your opinion i. am asking you why people care what is it about this helped me and what this friend said to me was that the portrayal of someone who is going through a having aids being HIV positive and then having AIDS, and then dying from another disease which. It, it was the thing that really drew this friend of mine into the character and into the world of this film and as much as. We are going to talk about a lot of the specifics now having watched it. I respect that opinion. Even though I did not get the same thing from this movie. At least from from Rayon and that's really mean I also did not grow up like I grew up as a child during the AIDS crisis I did not know a lot going on but at the same time. The movie in my opinion the movie itself. Didn't do a great job with ray on. But I really dug the way that they dealt with. Woodruff Matthew. mcconaughey character in the first act. Yeah To to. Put My cards on the table for we continue. To very specific misconceptions or like nervous conceptions but two very specific things that we're going to my mind when I started watching the movie. Deborah really softened a lot of it for me, which was one. The last movie that I've seen that was in relation to the AIDS crisis was the film adaptation of Rent. which was the worst movie that's life. I it's just. Sorry And the others conception is that I didn't realize that it was made in twenty thirteen I thought like watching it. It felt like it was like an early two thousands movie in house can be like well. Okay like Even. The Straits don't really get chanced stuff I. It was like a good attempts to try to like bring more color to the table metaphorically speaking. But it's a twenty thirteen. I don't know like. I mean at times article didn't come out yet. It's just it's just weirder and it's also like. That film strikes very early two thousands and I'm not like sinophile so I could be completely dead wrong on this, but it just felt. Like You know way older movie than it actually ended up being. So. And that. Up Sorry and then I guess the third conception. Sorry. The secret third one was that I actually was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because as soon as I found out that it was like historical like a history piece because runway was a real person. As like, Oh, well then you know if they had to deal with a real life trans person like they're they're dead in the water like you know they're not going to handle that well. But no round is is a real. She was made for the movie. So cool. Great. Love that for us. So. Yeah. I wonder because Silas one of the things that you had mentioned that you had focused on when talking about the movie was a lot more of a real life historical things that were going on and about the real life of what was happening. Can you talk a little bit about that? Yes so Aside, from knowing about, you know sort of the kerfluffle about jared leto playing the part and hearing a little bit about that when the movie came out the other thing that I really had a bee in my bonnet about is the fact that Ron Woodruff was not straight. And he did talk about long clearly had some stuff but. They just. Changed him to be straight and altered his character quite a bit and watching it. It's so clear to me that they were like, how do we make this the straight male hero anti hero type that the straight people will come see the movie for? And so that to me like before, we even get to any issues of transphobia homophobia of that in the Bi phobia that really just made me now it becomes this sort of like. The straight guy in the hero of a crisis that you know certainly straight people and all people belong to this lots of. It was but it was primarily focused on the queer. Community. And sort of start off before you even have a chance to give the film the benefit of the doubt with that erasure just really for me. Through me completely out of it it was I wasn't able to come to the film really with. A kind of the I at that point.

Joker, Commentary

"Going to be a podcast her everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now and Stewart and this is the host who always has negative thoughts Jacob joker a movie that I could not believe have the height around it that it did I can't recall the last time a superhero film was Ben so polarizing I mean people worried about shootings in theaters people saying Joaquin deserves an Oscar yeah it was all over the place coming out of Toronto Oh this is going to be the film of the year it's going to get all the Oscars and then Todd Phillips director opens his mouth and got a lot of backlash for what he thought we're comedy was these days yet all the place with this film that said I got to say this one took me by surprise I assumed that DC was in free fall. I mean we have all commented on how their output has been inconsistent can we all agree at best putting it nicely right that they have not had the scene unless nece that the Marvel Universe has been able to bestow on all of their works when I heard they were doing a one off joker movie I was like that sounds like a bad idea story are you getting those marvel paycheck saying they're in free fall I mean wonder woman made one of a billion dollars off man made a billion dollars what kind of free was that will somebody say well I don't care what the hardcore people think the truth of the matter is a lot of their movies have stone DOC and they've not consistent the fact that we have a one of joker movie this joker that we're told will never appear with Batman what the hell are they doing marvel would never do that is what I guess I would say sure but I don't mind that like what is the best spider man film Spiderman entered the spider verse like that is not connection to the m. c. you or what Sony is doing with Tom Allen's spider manoeuvres etta any of that so I don't mind a one off if you can just pull off a good movie I don't care if it's in any kind of continuity villain standalone movies making a Superhero movie without a superhero has not been something I've thought has worked before I mean Holly Aries cat-woman Tom Hardy thinom they could never figure out how to do sinister of six I mean you could even probably throw the Star Wars prequels into that concept having the super villain story told without a counterpoint of heroism where's our entry point who are we supposed to be with and what are they going to accomplish the you mentioned marvel I think that DC here is taking a cue from Marvel's newest acquisition Fox Todd Phillips talked about how it took a lot of convincing at Warner Brothers to let him do an R. rated joker movie but that was the only thing he was pitching and he's literally hearing responses from Warner brothers like we sell joker pajamas at target what are you going to do to our character that might hurt Pyjama sales and look at the roads that deadpool paved and I think even more specifically logan going more dramatic and being R. rated you can't beat marveled by playing Marvin those game the way you beat marvelous by making your own Fox did that and nobody is even see new mutants because nobody knows what to do with it again the X. Men horror movie yeah they've experimented sometimes those experiments have been successful I'm just saying approaching this project hearing the we're going to do a one off film about the region of joker seemed like a waste of time I was not excited about this movie at all until I saw the trailer Yeah Al admit I mean after seeing what happened to jared Leto in jokers role in suicide squad. We'll see at that movie he doesn't think he was in that movie enough he's got a scene it was not overly excited to see what they would do with joker now what I will say is somewhere at this very moment jared Leto has pissed Yeah Joaquin Phoenix get attached this because that's what I would have gotten excited you know he's one of those actors like Tom Hardy who's like a Nicholas cage who is just going to make some decisions and go with them they could be czar. They could be captivating like that trailer yeah they really tapped into Martin Scorsese in that taxi driver field but I was even more excited about Joaquin Phoenix playing this role and should be pointed out he is the man that would be doctor strange he has quartered comic book movies before and walked away saying this is not really for me why do this one he was also offered the role of Bruce Banner the reason he didn't do them he didn't WanNa sign multi picture contracts he didn't want to do what Chris Evans and Robert Downey junior did where the next seven years of your life you're working basically as a day player for marvel here it's a one picture deal and the ways they got him on board for this one it was Todd Phillips again Joaquin was connected from the very beginning and the Pitch Phillips gave him is we're going to make a real movie but we're going to get warner brothers to fifty million dollars for it by calling it fucking joker yeah how did Todd Phillips and doing this because I've seen a lot of his films old cool that hangover trilogy these are not things that I associate with a Gritty New York Scorsese style film you saying that and coach when I look at this filmography I hadn't seen most of what he meant. Yeah they're bad comedies well he makes kind of comedy I don't patronize the I'm not ever interested in watching skin hutch that's just not something I'm going to see I did see war dogs which I actually thought it was a little underrated I thought it was pretty good it's okay yeah kind of fell apart at the end yeah thought it was decent as well and it was four dogs that actually got this happening as he was at an early screening of war dogs with Warner brothers and realize is is exact phrase was war dogs wasn't going to set the world on fire as so he started talking to Warner about what could we make that's going to really get attention and do a little bit more be a little more provocative look way down on his resume his first film and you might actually see why he really got the Gig I was doc I didn't realize I had always heard about this documentary about the punk icon singer G- yeah I did not know top Phillips did that I have seen it ooh those are some live performances you wanna be careful with he strips down throws a species tough stuff to watch yeah I watched the movie I was like Oh I've always wanted to see it this gives me an lent reason it may be the closest of all his films to joker it begins with an actual endorsement from John Wayne Gay see another killer clown so yeah brutal I don't know that I'm telling people I recommend that experience be prepared I don't say this lightly it is very punishing it is very hard set is provocative and ways a lot of people probably want appreciate but you can't see a director who's very much trying to confront a freak entertainer and I do think at a core G G Allen and joker are two sides of the same coin so I would be interested to see a guy that came from punk rock bring a punk rock aesthetic to of joker movie if we must Gotcha Joker Origin Story. I WanNa say though I'm hesitant because I mean I always liked the way Keith Ledger played it how did I get my scars there's a danger and telling US definitively how joker came to exist right. There's something about the mystery we want to leave I've always liked the mystery the funny thing and you can go back to books and Nachos where in our talks about the killing joke written by Alan Moore the joker says I always change my story but here's the version I'm going to tell of my own gin and they tell an origin story and then just as origin story we're just GonNa make that the real thing but yeah I've always preferred him to be like Batman rewritten so obsessed with origin Martha Thomas Wayne Getting Killed and the pearls and walking out Zora all of that that has been told so many times joker being the opposite of Batman I liked that you just this mysterious chaotic clown figure that comes out of nowhere yeah I've definitely was thinking the killing joke when watching this and how it took elements of that in that Comic Book Joker was a failed stand up comedian who was kind of down on his luck in a rundown older Gotham city but I came in I think we might be seeing virtually and adaptation of the killing joke minus all the Batman stuff no they definitely go in a different direction with this but it gave them a good starting point and joker said he likes his origin story to be multiple choice. DC is having both ways they're gonNa make their continuity multiple choice switch movies do you want and continuity go ahead that's weird for me that we're seeing something that I should not think of as a comic book movies essentially what they're telling me don't worry I'll have nothing to do with Zam Aquaman wonder woman and all of that I mean did they even have that DC logo they have that old school Warner Brothers logo show up no DC logo okay and yet I mean it's not just your average comic book movies this movie's doing bigger than a lot of films I mean it's opening bigger than the average thor film it's maybe not topped here it's not spiderman but I'm not really it's no atman though it's beaten that man right yeah this is going to have a ninety million joining in the US. The biggest October release of all time is it Halloween in the mood for something kind of scary after it we want another killer oh but it's shocking to me the box office for what essentially feels a little art film is so huge and that it's rated R. You can't get teenagers in which is where marvel makes its money is they are aiming specifically at thirteen to seventeen year old market with their PG thirteen films and yes adults can like it in younger kids can like it but they're keeping that content for a rated R. Film in an error where in my experience it's much harder for young people to get into a rated R. Film that it made this much money is shocking to me I expected it to do well I didn't expect it to break venoms record
