"And you know they were so essential and supportive of him. You know always have so much gratitude for them as well so the final thing. I'm just going to pose to you. Obviously that that resulted in a very well deserved oscar. And then we've seen some higher profile stuff since then with suicide squad bladerunner and all of that but to now come back in a another great kind of immersive character part where i call her nose. Teeth posher walk voice. Everything is. This is the jared leto special. I think with with the little things. And i just wonder if you can talk about being drawn to it. I think by the founder and other. John lee hancock movie which is so under appreciated. I know that you were just you know what was it that made you wanna play this kind of shady guy who you know the audiences learning about it. There's a lot of layers get peeled over the course of this very entertaining movie. Why i give a special shout to blade runner and the under wallace. You film that. I was psyched to be a part of a fan blade. Runner is one of my top top. Five film scene on top of little opportunity to to dive deep. I've worked with this great guy. Chris happens to be blind. We actually modeled. The is in the film after his is really just such a sweetheart so generous with us but yeah the check letters special said janica said. If i'm going to do this mythic go for it and you know it's the only way to do it here. Like why bother huge game and he just like took off the shackles. And let me run wild and you know it was rare that he pushed back but he did a couple of times when we were actually trying to find the worst wig in hollywood i kind of wanted to outdo hobby. Our caviar button. I think that might been zone air. No-fence your i thought this guy just has it's all wrong. you know. He just he tries but he just makes a choice that other people that doesn't work it's always a square peg in round hole but yeah completely transformative head to toe and i really wanted to explore like body posture and the voice is always a big thing for me. I think it was kind of hook into the character and humor was a big one. I'm not a very funny person. Unless you force me to be. In a moment of panic. I could be so. It was fun to bring humor to the role. An improv improv. hats off to john hancock for that. And he's also a writer the writer director and he just smart enough at the not be precious about that in to let this guy come in with all these wild ideas into experiment not to go. We're getting off the rails here but just to kind of have the wisdom say well. Let's let's let's keep going with this. Let's be patient or fail a bunch of times and then maybe we'll win one and robbie and denzel as well. They gave me an incredible gift and the faith that they have like that. Unspoken gesture that you can give to someone else. They gave that to me. And then some and really let me you know they just believed in me in my process and my whole thing that was just quite a beautiful thing and i think we all felt excited to jump in the ring with one another. It's great and people can watch on. Hbo max now. If not in theaters. And i just thank you so much for a lotta great entertainment over the years and for doing this really appreciate.

"Went to war. We finance our own album. We financed videos. We'd better ourselves we we. We took a fat and that paid off big time. Yeah yeah so what was. I'm sure there were many people that were thinking about during those years when you were away from from film what was it that with dallas buyers club was the thing that made you say. I'm gonna come back for this one. Was it a film in five or six years. And i wasn't really looking. I mean honestly. I was retired. I didn't think i would come back to movies. Very creatively fulfilled. You know it was. It was the stuff of dreams what was going on with the band and my brother and i were standing on big stages in the world with people singing ourselves and you know countries we'd never even imagined going to so we had so gratitude after working for it for so long for so many years that we just to embrace it fully weaned stayed on the road go over and over and over and over again and so i was looking to make movies but someone sent me the script and i read the part. That thought again. It was like you know with requiem of thought that this is an opportunity to be a partisan thing meaningful mccown. Hey doing really interesting work at that time in his life and still is and you know he had made this big change and i thought well he's a good filter for material and i just thought this could be an opportunity so i took it was wasn't there. Something had sent a version of that same script. Something crazy like fifteen years earlier. Fifteen years earlier i remember someone sent me the script.

"Know it put me put me on the line a little bit and and that was really great and it was like you know this this important part of of the journey and i came to. La for summer went back and then packed up my stuff and came here for good but yeah it was it was it was wild times. Where were you staying when you got out ninety one or ninety. I think that first time i came. I can't remember now. But i actually had a couple hundred bucks. I was here for this summer. I had a backpack camper hiking backpack filled with you know couple of shirts. And that's it a couple pairs of pants. I had no place to stay and i went. I remember. I landed at the airport. I had no idea where to go. And i said to the tax where where people go and we started driving from the beach because he's like first of all. We got to drive somewhere so he started driving from the airport through venice. All those little bungalows. I'd never really seen anything quite like that. At that time. There's no social media. There's less just media in general so less awareness of what a places like an it had has such a distinctive fuelling feeling an atmosphere when you drive through it and at that time it was pretty you know as i wouldn't call it. I guess it was rough in certain places and it was maybe a little more beat up or forgotten at that time. Now it's quite fancy Overall but i remember being in venison. Just thinking wow. This is pretty incredible. Here so i ended up like sleeping on the beach. China is a very controversial contentious subject right now but i was basically homeless. There had a little bit of money. Could've stayed at a hotel. But i didn't have that much money. So and then. I found a basically a hostile to this hostile on the main. That mean insurance. That tha venice like that crossroads. There are those two streets. There was a hostile there. I don't know if it's still. There are some that it was on the second floor. Believe i walked up filthy place like you know. You just can't understand what i think. It was two or three dollars a night. And i. I pay my two bucks and i went into my room and i put my backpack town and there was a voice behind me at startled me and said yuma new room roommate. Almost i guess pharma voice and i turned around and there was a guy sitting on the bed naked..

"The other and then once you develop a you had to edit it with a razor blade and tape so is a really manual process. It was a really high barrier to entry for filmmakers News incredibly expensive for gear and cameras and all of that stuff and in film and and There was there was Yeah it was. It was the higher barrier to entry. Semi big plan was become an actor. And then i can get a job visit director. So that's basically it was only it wasn't that you had any great desire to be an actor. No no no no. I had a kind of secret like i always. There was a theater -partment at the university. And i thought kuwait that seem so brave and but i didn't like the other part of feeder like i wasn't interested in musical zor melodrama or not that. Then i recognized now. That stuff is amazing. Of course there's some beauty and all of that but at that time i wasn't interested in you know getting i. I was at film lover. I would go to the independent theatre. Just see whatever was there like you know we just show up and just see whatever film is playing most oftentimes the by myself. I would say ninety percent by myself. Because that's where you saw those movies you know you couldn't find them otherwise film person and i thought acting was really kinda fascinating quite interested in it but but yeah directing in the whole time. I was making move music like the you know i was like this kind of depeche mode type thing for a second A brief second but yeah it was. The music was always there. So take me into your mind. I guess nineteen years old when you're not. You're almost done with art school. You could've could've finished it and then done something but you felt. I guess some sort of urgency to pick up and go to l. a. And so. I just wonder why you did that. And what actually life was like when you got out there. Because i think people should understand from what i have been able to kind of deduce from reading. It was pretty far from glamorous for a while yeah absolutely. I was in new york at the time. And i went to la for a summer. And i was supposed to have a friend with me. My roommate and new york supposed to company bailed on me at the last minute. And i just couldn't believe it and i was so just kind of you know shocked and that this was a time where flaking wasn't even a word like if people you remember the days. If you said to me on saturday at five o'clock on the corner he showed up or else you lost a friend like there was no like texting last minute. Yeah you know wanted decided to stay in and get a pizza. It didn't happen right. I think the word flake was only used in california. At that time. You know it was like we're gonna have hit the world yet but it anyway heave legged on me being this great thing and i said fuck you not to him fuck you. I'm going to go to california. Anyway on my own and enforce meets you actually reach out and get to know people which i'm not great at but you know it put me put me on the line a little bit and and that was really great and.

"Out on on you know great talent in you know surprises but I guess for for my brother. And i you know one of the things that has been incredible as we spent so much time in so many places around the world and like you know we really dug in has abandoned toured in ways that you know even most artists do or don't wanna do or just can't find the time to do you don't we don't just go play. Paris will play twenty different cities in france. We don't just play Berlin or call or clone will play twenty-seven different markets in germany. So it's become really wild Experience or super super proud of it and you know acutely aware how lucky we are. I love you talk about your brother. Knowing your story where it was basically the two of you and your mom is kids. Moving all over the place trying to find gig. I mean your mom has been described as a hippie in the flattering way. Do you guys stop and go. Oh my god. I can't believe what our lives have taken ask given where we started. You.

"For a lot of people going to live shows. Such a sport going to events and things like that so excited for the world to kind of return to be able to help you know on stage around the world and you know give people a little break from from the madness. How do you balance that. In your own mind. Jared these two art forms that you're so good at which is music on the one hand in acting on the other. Do you have plans in your mind. Okay i'm gonna make an album and music mode. So i'm going to wait a couple years on a movie or i can't imagine for most people. One of those would be all consuming. How do you sort through that with your band. And how do you sort through that with the choices you make as an actor. You just can't care too much about a social life at least a very large one at the bay pretty limited you cancel all lunches and dinners and you stay focused on the things they love. I think i'm pretty good. Had kind of you know putting my attention directly on the task at hand. That's right in front of me. And i do bounce. You know holiday. Where i'm working to music and another day when i'm doing things like this and another you know the time that i'm spending preparing for Film developing something. But i think. I'm pretty good with the time management and i love to work really hard. That egis of passionate about this stuff that i do. I don't mind putting in long hours and lots of time in your not afraid to just serve stop and commit to one. you famously. took that six year break. I think it was in two thousand. Six from acting as your career was going like this. Which a lot of people said. Wait a minute what's he doing. he's he's here. keep going you said. Academic focus on music. Was that as you look back on. It was that a strange decision as you reflect on it or are you glad you made probably a pretty new the reality of what would the gamble was there. That's a pretty strange. I remember you know. This story has been told quite a bit. But i remember i. I turned down a clint eastwood movie to go and make two hundred and fifty dollars a night on tour. And that's i think that's when hollywood new like oh. This guys lost his mind you know he. He's he's just off his rocker. But you know we. We committed along. There were periods. Who are did make films. in one of those periods. I was about six years in the impossible happens. You know my brother night. Shares thirty seconds to mars we worked for many many many many years And toured we really dug in the live aspect of it. In the touring aspect. And you know we woke up one day and we're playing arenas and.

"That are you know seemingly different people that likes. Parma is someone who never really quite fits in society. And i don't think he understands why You know just from the name itself you know. He's somebody different. I could imagine what it was like being in fifth grade and having the name. Albert spar mind how other people may have treated him he he sees the world in a different way has a really kind of unique sense of humor. I and and a lot of that stuff was we kinda dug up. We kind of discovered those things but it was a total transformation. It we had a brown is a different knows different teeth. I had some other prosthetic cited in a different way of walking and carrying myself and a different voice which was really kind of key to the character. Yeah no it's it's you clearly. But it's some sort of morphed version of jared leto just physically. I mean i wonder when you talk to a director like that. Say here's what i think. His backstory is or. Here's how i think he looks. Do you find a director to be receptive to to the actor. Come bringing that to the the production. Yeah he was he. Was you know the dna and something really compelling was in the script but it was a long way off from where we ended up and a john lee hancock was incredibly open and gracious and generous and excited that some maniac wanted to push things pretty far. I was really appreciative of that. And it's not always like that where you have someone who's absolute faith and what you're doing in of course during that process as i was sending him like voice notes to hear kind of what. This guy sounded like in photos of wigs. he must've been. He must have been a little nervous at some point. Because i think there was one point i looked like anne from the musical. This curly red haired wig. Maybe even freckles. I dunno with those teeth. Looked like annie's really messed up. Older brother something he needs that one we knicks but i held on it for quite sometime i put up by john was give because he was also the voice of reason which as we need A as actors at time you know the times so anyway. It was a great collaboration. And you know. I think we made a really good team..

"You guys willie geist here with another episode of the sunday. Sit down podcast. My thanks as always clicking and listening along very excited about this week's guest. He is oscar winner. Jared leto one of the most fascinating guys in hollywood. He starring in a new film called the little things co-stars with a pair of other oscar winners denzel washington and rami malik. So he plays a guy called. Albert s- parma. Who is creepy to say. The least the question for the two detectives denzel and rami. Malik is he also a serial killer creepy. Maybe doesn't begin to explain. What kind of guy he is. You'll hear jared talk about the character so it's a thriller. He's a handyman. Albert's barma pain visual picture. He's got long greasy hair Jared had prosthetics for his teeth in his eyes and his nose and he just kind of lurks and he's just kind of weird but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a serial killer so that's sort of the core of the story he by the way was nominated just this week for a golden globe award for that performance in the little things just as the movie even begins to come out so lots to talk about with jared leto including his career also as a rockstar. Thirty seconds to mars is the ban. He started with his older brother shannon so he lives on these dual tracks. He's a movie star for awhile. Then he'll pause and do some music and do some touring then go back to the movies. In fact he took a six year break just as his movie. Career was taking off to focus on the music and then got back into the movies with dallas buyers club the role that earned him an academy award for best supporting actor. Lots and lots to talk to him about including he was when the world shut shutdown last march. He didn't know it had shut down. Let's just put it that way. I'll let him explain. Time to enjoy academy award winner. Jared leto right now on the sunday. Sit down podcast. Good to say thanks for doing this. My absolute pleasure. Thanks for having me. I was just telling you a second ago. I finished the movie about thirty minutes ago. So it's still racing through my mind. And as i said to you as well. Not many people have the experience of walking outside theater and starring in the i immediately afterward this guy back up back off screen here. It's so good boy. What what we get some tacos is that is that still. The movie of it is for some reason. I kept on saying that. Mike i think three or four different scenes would just look at one of the guys and by the way you say it so casually we can go back home. Maybe we'll get some tacos. Well the it's an amazing performance. It's really is i. I hesitate to ask you what drew to the character because it's so obvious to rich and textured character and it's a great writer and director and you're obviously starring with a couple of other incredible actors. But what was it specifically about albert that you saw and said i.

Snubs and surprises from this year's Golden Globe nominations

"The globe. Nominations happened and boy. They'd seemed a mess. How do you feel hi. How are you feeling about words and being back. I guess i'm glad to have award season back though isn't it. We can discuss specific to these nominations. I feel a little bit like charlie brown with the football because every year we talk about make fun of the hollywood foreign press association. And let's be clear we're going to continue to make fun of them. They are traditionally. It's a small group of international journalists. Who do not have a lot of renown really know outside of the fact that they are in this mysterious priests small group of people. They really like celebrities or their definition of another other thing. We'll discuss and their star fuckers and they give nominations to people they want in a room rather than a merit or at least our interpretation of merit. It seems like to win an award. You just have to go to as many parties as possible and then think the association from the stage. We know that there are always bad. Choices always mysterious traces. We're always like what is going on. Who are these people. Why do we do this. But i would say even for the hollywood foreign press association and even for a film here had some challenges aka pandemic theaters being close and far fewer films released unusual. These are real embarrassing. And i woke up just being like. Are you serious. We have to do this again. Like come on yeah i. It's hard to know we've gone through looking glass or not some of these. I think we're fairly standard and expected in their plenty of movies that i'm sure we'll be talking about when we get to the oscar nominations in a couple months but there were a handful of nominations. What what. I will generously called the surprises. That just took my breath away. That i i think even in my wildest dreams i could not have imagined the fbi concocting so. Let's just talk about them because this award show is happening really soon. It's february twenty eight. It's gonna be hosted by. Amy poehler and tina fey. It's going to be on nbc. And so we're going to actually having awards season to cover for real for real. I think we have to start with the jared leto nomination for the little things. This is probably the single biggest. W t.f of this collection and it's funny because when we talked about the little things on the show last week i think we both walked away from the little things thinking. Jared leto is pretty entertaining in it. And maybe rising to the challenge of this camp script and that being said i. I never considered him. A worthy report surprised to see this nomination. I enjoyed watching him in the little things in the context of the little things which was not a film that worked at all and so at least someone was doing something you know and i was talking with friends about it. There's like a really a nice like vintage. This is bad feeling to the little things that i found pretty comforting. You know it's like it's not like someone just made a twitter thread into a movie on an iphone and like someone wrote a script and they tried to do this old ninety staying. And then jared leto is doing the weird villain and having too much fun with it. It's like i know what's happening here even if it's not working and and i'm glad to have it back. I do not know that it needed to rise to the level of golden globes ovation especially because the golden globes supporting category does not differentiate between drama and comedy in some of the comedy. Nominations things get wild. But that's because you're kind of you're filling it out there some extra slots. A lot of people didn't get nominated in supporting actor. Jared leto like weird joke of serial killer. I think he's right. Can we talk about that for a second. This is dangerous rabbit hole to go down. I have no idea. The truth is. I don't know i think you're meant to believe that he did. Not if you haven't seen this movie. Sorry for spoiling it for you. It's unspoiled in many ways because it has an ambiguous ending of sword. I- i- i- jared. Leto obviously is has won an academy award. He is a very famous person has been celebrated. He's also like kind of a joke. You know like. I really enjoy him as a performer. A famous person. But he's kind of a joke. I mean he's he so Has all of the pretensions. And absurdity of the method actor who sort of you know pulling pranks on his cast members by trying to get into character and so outside and so masking his beauty all the time with these ridiculous roles you know like in the little things that character has like a is is fat and walks with a limp and why it's just pure actually affect nation and the role is actually affectation and the asia was impressed by that or impressed. By the idea of having jared sit in on their award show. But jared. Leto is not tom hanks. For example someone who did not get knocked out.

'The Little Things' stars Jared Leto, Rami Malek, Denzek Washington is a stirring crime thriller

"Denzel Washington Rami Malek and Jared Leto collide in the little things a mystery premiering today on HBO. Max, a jaded detective tracks a serial killer in the San Fernando Valley. It must really like my car. Do I was the trunk space. Denzel Washington gives a complex performance as a cop willing to bend the rules. Unlike his idealistic deputy, Ramsey Malik during a cat and mouse game with Jared Leto's creepy suspect, writer director John Lee Hancock has been trying to get a script made since 1993 feeling like a nineties thriller like the Silence of the Lambs. It's a shame it wasn't made back Then, as we've since seen the same concept done much better in seven Zodiac and prisoners. Still, I'm a mark for this John Rush trying to solve the case, even if we've seen it

"Um okay, So let's move over to, um, the thing that we were just talking about just a while ago. Why are we all talking about Jared Leto right now? Yeah. So he's in this movie called the little things that the on each feel, Max and and feeders. You got that? Don't you calling? I do I have that. Yeah. So start. You know Denzel Washington places better than cop he had back to his old stomping ground in L. A in order to help chase down the serial killer. Before the seventh victim was claim. Robin Malik is the new detective. That's kind of leading the case. So they've got a bad and you've got this new concept by those two. And then Jared Leto is someone they kind of have their eyes on. He's super creepy, super greasy looking. And you had allegedly that he is a killer. And throughout this movie, you're like you see, actually the killer or is this kind of a Mr AC on? Maybe just a token off kind of police blindness, If you well, I don't wanna get too much because it really kind of scratches that age if you like. That kind of grisly crime, psychological thriller serial killers. I do love me a good show color movies eat, right. It just kind of leaves you on edge the entire time.

The Little Things Movie Review

"Okay one less title. That's out this week. This went on in theaters and on. Hbo max i believe It's the little things which is a detective thriller. It is both set in the early nineties and feels a little bit like a time. Capsule from early nineties It starts in washington with rami. Malik and jared leto. Three best actor oscar winners. That's kind of a rare sight There it. I enjoyed the throwback quality of it while also thinking it was yet another of the stone cold boomers. We're talking about this week Richard i think you might have enjoyed it. Listen i did even. I didn't like it at all. I really wanted it to be something specific that of that was written in the early nineties. Steven spielberg directed. Imagine so strange are and then. I think clint eastwood was looking at it and deigned veto and finally john lee hancock wrote it decided to make himself twenty seven years later. I wanted it to be kind of one of those nineties. Post silence of the lambs. Serial killer studio thrillers. You know a little grimy kind of silly but like engaging good detective work kind of stuff and it has those trappings but at the center is kind of a weird void at the center. I think it's kind of trying to be about something bigger and fails at that. And so everything else kind of doesn't get its proper do denzel washington's always good rummy. Malik is fine. Jared leto. People people's tolerance level of him certainly varies. And he's really doing a thing you know and i found it engaging for like the first scene and then i was like okay i get it. I don't even more so for me. It was just like it had all these interesting component parts. But the whole didn't really didn't do it for me.

"Well. Megan welcome to manage and cut off. This has been a year overdue at this point. An entire pandemic overdue. Maybe i'm happy that you're here talking to us. I'm really thrilled to be here. Thank you for having me anything so to start. I want everyone to meet you. Because you're awesome So you are a member of space fund. You also have this podcast mission eve. That is fantastic. Can you tell everyone a little bit about you sure. Yeah co founder and managing partner of space fund Where venture capital firm investing exclusively in the new space ecosystem so very kind of targeted fund And then i also have my podcast mission eve which I interview the most amazing women in the space industry. It's just been a thrill and just so much fun to do. And in the hopes of inspiring more women to join us here in the space industry So that's that's a project that's near and dear to my heart I'm also on. The board of several nonprofits needs to do a quick shout out the space frontier foundation. The center for space commerce finance mars initiative and the earth light foundation Spend an inordinate amount of my time helping those at nonprofits. So i think that's probably about it so we're gonna talk about a bunch of different angles on the finance side of stuff which i occasionally touch on but probably not as deeply as i should in many cases there's some fundraising that has happened. In the past year that has been particularly notable for the size specifically spacex relativity. Been getting gargantuan amounts of money there's some acquisitions that have happened recently. And then There's a whole trend of holding companies. That i find quite interesting as well as a trend that i find interesting and more shady. Which is this whole special purpose acquisition friend. Those are the things. I want to pick your brain about. Is there an order. would you like to start with fundraising and then get into what happens after. You've gotten a bunch of funding and actually accomplish things. What's the right order there. Yeah well I think i'd like to start with this kind of startling statistic that that i i like to I like to bring up a lot. Is that One and it's it's one of the reasons that spaceman was founded. Actually is you know. Currently launched comprises less than two percents of the global space economy yet has received seven percent of the venture capital. Today right sounds crazy but it. It makes such intuitive sense to like you know somebody watches the markets but exactly crazy. Yeah that's crazy. Yeah i like it when you hear that you're like oh yeah that seems right but holy crap. That's crazy just hear those numbers right and now the one question i would have is. Does that. include any space x funding as launch. Yes that includes spacex funding and includes the you know that big relativity rounded includes all of that. So i guess that's my that would be. My stipulation is like how. How do you separate out. What of that is going to starlink. zach satellites. Then does that skew it or is it not big enough to actually skew. Anything no matter how you classify either couple billion. Yeah so you know the regardless. It's it's a huge number even if he were to try and take starlink out of the kind of the space x portion of that. They're going to be forty percent of the venture right number exactly exactly and so you know when When my partner. Rick tomlinson and i were contemplating a founding space fund. You know this was one of the things that was really bothering us. We were kind of looking around the industry at all of our our friends and colleagues. Who are these brilliant entrepreneurs going and down sandhill road and couldn't get any funding and meanwhile while all these other. Vc's are just pouring good money. After bad into launch company after launch company because all ilan has launched company and basil's has launched company and jared. Leto is invested in in relativity space so i need a launch company. Right and base fund is currently tracking a hundred and sixty two active launch companies around the world.

"Besides the acting. Jared has helped many other incidents that show. How out of touch with reality is on the seventeenth anniversary of kurt. Cobain's death jared released a trip video as him fascinating. Every this excerpt he wrote in his blog i heard today was the day kirk pat. What do you mean you heard today like. Oh you just heard you if you care about him. I think you would know you know. I heard can't believe it's been that long so grateful for his country. Inspirations not sure. I'd be doing this if it weren't for hint. You give us all permission to create no matter what our skill set reminded me. That dreams are pasta digits. Call kirk kirk obama's shitty musician. He literally said he gave permission for us to create no matter what our skill set our. Thanks for that. This made me recall short piece of film. I shot when i heard. They were making a film celebrating his life. I made it to explore the character and explore creative possibilities. I never sent it to the student. Anyone but thought i'd share it now. You're on if i may interject. I'm not sure if this will be claimed. Now cover song but you. Yeah but it's just super weird that he's dressed as kurt cobain in this unreleased video that he supposedly had he showed the public whenever we found out they were making a video about him on his birthday or whatever because like he's not acting performing a song and then like walking around like a zombie. Like there's really not that epic dude. Jared didn't know about covid nineteen due to a twelve day. Silent meditation the desert. I feel like there's nothing necessarily wrong. But it is literally being disconnected from reality for sure the actual sense while twelve days ago. I began silent meditation in the desert. We were totally isolated no phones communications etc. We had no idea what was happening outside. The facility walked out yesterday into a very different world. One that's been changed forever. Mind blowing to say the least. I'm getting messages from friends and family all around the globe. Catching me up on. What's going on your silent. Meditation may have caused covid talk like that. He refers to it as the facility. Bad vibes right there. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility right. That isn't that. Sounds like a mental health facility. That sounds so like corporate. You're out in the desert bro. What facility are we talking about. He was on allen had awkward performance after a shot after a shot showing an empty stage. The camera does a dramatic one. Eighty degree turn to reveal. The band is in fact sitting in the audience while epic moscow. Go no sound oh should we not have sound on this. Probably not mike at has claimed. Okay it there's nobody onstage but they are in the audience. What i'm trying to gauge the reaction of the girls there next to it's funny because they're trying to sing along. But no one knows. The words middle housewives very awkward. See that's the risk when you're you don't wanna show the audience that much because they don't know the words and we can't hear even a little bit let's give it so it's just a little taste. What happened here eventually walks. Ach release sitting in front of the choir. They all stood up there. All coordinator out. I'm gonna get claim for. This is what it sounds like allen's up there trying to act like she cares. Yep okay okay. Ach all right an go ahead. What say you on behalf of. Jared leto are we the charges detached from reality. But i really think. It's just being a douched if i can. Maybe rica rob recalibrate the charge. A little bit was he was a little over. The top oscar winning phil set suicide squad. That woah woah woah. What oscar to sky suicide squad win a contiguous yep oscar winning breath for seaside squad. Okay went the because he took the role too seriously he just throwing oscars while what a bad guy. What about sending use condoms to cast members. Hey look what matters is that the role made it impact on people very memorable joker role arguably the best in a piece of evidence to show. Just how impactful. This joker was even impacted. Our very own prosecution mr ab really jackson dress. Here's who better the way. What hell this is truly remarkable moment in your still covering it covering i just wanna see the whole thing is just star evidence covering to decide the and while wow this is truly shocking moment for this courtroom so he has a really compelling point what influence on pop culture that you the prosecution itself would dress as him. Ab what can you possibly say to that. I mean everyone. Because i mean i feel like everyone's been the joker and harley quinn for like the last three years claim maybe that's what he's saying. Yeah but that's the problem is influence. I don't think he's necessarily a bad guy. Think he just has a. I almost drank the koolade. What could i say. Yeah i really i think it's falling apart. Ab what the hell do you have. Anything to say. what do you have to say. Okay i have some say. Tell me give me something. My wife does make up and special effects and it was very popular that year. So i was trying to be a good husband is that a crime doesn't really flow. You have anything else to say Besides me being the one on the spotlight. I just wanna say that. In terms of his method acting. The joker i think he was trying to emulate what Heath ledger was doing. I mean he's ledger was known for method acting and he like locked himself in a motel. Do the joker. And i think he kind of took that idea and kinda just fucked it all up like he kind of went overboard totally. Missed the point and thought you know. Having the joker brain zach would say is Sending people use condoms. And so your your argument. That he bastardized Heath ledgers icon ick role as joker reminds. Yeah okay do you think you would have done. A better joker. Oh definitely yeah deliberate. Now damn i feel like a m pop. The lid right off the definitely did and we'd Abc kind of confessing that he would've liked that raw and probably better bitterness not that objective also he goes. I drink the kool aid but then he try to get himself together when he realized it was all falling apart almost drank. Yeah well. I'm not sure you drink the kool aid to close almost as out and grenades or Okay let's consider the charge douche detachment from reality overlooking the facts. I think his behavior on set of of a suicide squad alone throws the whole thing and the question Not talking to will smith ending use condoms and then. He says he didn't send us gone. The whole thing's out of control. He's definitely do. You could tell that. His co stars don't like Based on the evidence now that is him laughing as the joker warble and not mistake. That definitely want. It is horrible. We're black you know that being said In a really good point and that he was so prolific culturally an ab reinforced his point so he was douche but also he was effective maybe ultimately it was effective. But at what cost you know what the cost of now. Being nice to your actors and colleagues. Maybe it's not that bad that it wasn't that nice of them. Tell me 'cause i'm torn between a. N. melting a good defense. The fact that he is I think they use condoms. Throw it to deepen the too far and i think he's guilty of Do i give a nod. Of course a a An jim contempt of court. That being said jared leto all the all that being said..

Do the celebrities help the startups or do the startups help the celebrities?

"So this week. We saw that josh richards. Who is a tiktok star previously of the sway house which is one of the many tiktok mansions that have kind of popped up over los angeles as influence or homes. Josh richards is joining remiss capital and early stage venture firm as a venture partner. And as i'm sure we will get into not super nudist see celebrities get into venture space. They have huge reach. They can do a lot for especially consumer businesses with a simple instagram story. And so maybe the place to start with with the josh richards. Conversation is like really bullish on this transition. What would we say like what is good about this transition and then we can make the jokes because i know there will be jokes. But let's start with why this makes sense. Alex i okay. I have been critical in the past of celebrity investing. Because it's always struck me as little bit frivolous but i think that's because i underestimated the cultural impact of people of the moment and according to iverson will group text that i'm on with my friends. Talk is the thing. So if you are an enormous star in the tiktok world getting you involved with the company makes a lot of sense and my thought here is that i think in the old as we go to see more endorsements opposed to investments. You know you'd say like we're going to get you know josh richards or charlie delio or bryce. I'm reading the notes price hall to endorse your party to the long tail of knowledge for tiktok star. I see tiktok. But i don't know who the people are because i'm not cool at all but i think now with took being so popular and having so much cultural resonance with people that are out there using their dollars so in mark influence. It's probably reasonable that these people are going from being endorsers to be invested because once they have more money themselves and they have enough power deployed demand a seat at the table to get some ups. I did a piece of the pie. So i want to make jokes but i won't. I'll just say that in the past celebrity has had a mixed track record. But in this case. I think bringing attention via celebrity and tiktok makes sense. Okay danny leterrier pros and cons. And then i will finish this off. I think the big question is always do. The celebrities helped startup or the startups helped the celebrities. I think some celebrities have made a lot of money on their investments by think in many ways celebrities get access and in in many ways. I'm not sure they actually create the value for these companies. But because of the celebrity status they sort of get an allocation the otherwise it wouldn't have been able to get you know obviously if you're having a startup the targets gen z. Tiktok is the platform to go about do that. I just don't think it helps anyone else you know i. I just think about the company's like okay. Let's let's hope about sky flow. You know this is the polymorphic. Encryption data security company. Get josh richards to help. On what i'm kidding. Of course not so its seat and that's ultimately like you know. I think it's always about these brand plays. I'm in new york. We have a ton of successful brand plays because of the so like may richards endorses bro. And its next round and is like the the next to the guy in the commercials. I forget which the famous movie stars was on there. No one knows that this group. We're not that demographic. Danny this is where the show. We're just taking a right to the gutter. I think they're definitely serves. They can use this. I think it's fine to venture partner. Josh has been very entrepreneurial and getting a bunch of stuff out there. But what i've heard. The guy makes f ton of money saving our producers gave them work there but a ton of money doing all these sponsorship deals. I think it's fine. I just think we have to like not change coverage and we focused on in which companies make money based on which celebrities are attached to which companies like. It's always good to go back to the dollars and sense and so. I don't think it changes what we do here at techcrunch. I'm certainly not going to cover story. I actually been pitched stories. That are like gosh. Richards has invested in this company. I was like. I don't know who that is. Take this to not work in my experience talking to celebrities in and around technology events. More broadly i talked to a former doctor who about surface once that was a fiasco but i did. Enjoy my child with jared leto at a boxing event because one. I got to take a picture with him. I was topless now funny and to he actually had some pretty good he is about starts so i think there is the occasional investor who's also celebrity. Who can do some reasonable things. I'm curious to see how this bears out. Ashton kutcher is investments. Have been up and down. So we'll see. But i'm not going to be dismissive of the kids.

Jared Leto set to reprise Joker in 'Justice League: The Snyder Cut'

"Joker is getting some justice in director Zack Snyder's new cut of Justice League. Snyder had to leave the film due to the death of his daughter. But now he's shooting new footage in order to remake the movie into what he originally intended. It'll air on HBO. Max Leto wasn't even in the original version of Justice Lee, but he's been called into play the Joker in some new scenes. Jared, of course, played the Joker in suicide squad, which was tied to justice. Lee, thanks to an appearance by Ben Affleck's Batman

A Critique of Dallas Buyer's Club

"Let's. Let's Talk About Dallas Buyers Club. I first and foremost all the triggers. Goddamn because everything you thought you knew about this movie you were right and then there's more. There's The the TRANSPHOBIA is there from the characters. It's enacted characters but it's also just that kind of trans-phobia where it's tucked under. Oh, it's actually homophobia but that's because they don't know what to do with someone who presents in a way that is not stereotypical. To one gender or another. and. Yes. So look up triggers for this movie. There are so many that I don't even feel like sitting down and listing them but look them up before you continue to consume this podcast and before you decide to watch that movie. That said, had you either? Have you seen this movie before we went to the podcast first time? For a first time on that radio to. See what I did there. On brand very unbranded. Yeah. It was my first time too. I definitely knew it. As you said, for all the reasons that I knew, and then there were more reasons that I was glad I did until now. Oh Yeah so This movie I have to say because I tried to as much as I'm trashing it as much as I'm like Oh this all this I really wanted to like this movie I went in wanting to like it I remember talking to a friend about this movie because I refused to see it. So I was like, why are people praising jared leto wire people praising his portrayal of Now, I can't remember the name of Rayon why and I actually had to coax it out of a friend because. This was a friend that I respected their opinion on and they basically said they were like, well, you don't actually want to know you wanna be mad and it's like, no I respect your opinion i. am asking you why people care what is it about this helped me and what this friend said to me was that the portrayal of someone who is going through a having aids being HIV positive and then having AIDS, and then dying from another disease which. It, it was the thing that really drew this friend of mine into the character and into the world of this film and as much as. We are going to talk about a lot of the specifics now having watched it. I respect that opinion. Even though I did not get the same thing from this movie. At least from from Rayon and that's really mean I also did not grow up like I grew up as a child during the AIDS crisis I did not know a lot going on but at the same time. The movie in my opinion the movie itself. Didn't do a great job with ray on. But I really dug the way that they dealt with. Woodruff Matthew. mcconaughey character in the first act. Yeah To to. Put My cards on the table for we continue. To very specific misconceptions or like nervous conceptions but two very specific things that we're going to my mind when I started watching the movie. Deborah really softened a lot of it for me, which was one. The last movie that I've seen that was in relation to the AIDS crisis was the film adaptation of Rent. which was the worst movie that's life. I it's just. Sorry And the others conception is that I didn't realize that it was made in twenty thirteen I thought like watching it. It felt like it was like an early two thousands movie in house can be like well. Okay like Even. The Straits don't really get chanced stuff I. It was like a good attempts to try to like bring more color to the table metaphorically speaking. But it's a twenty thirteen. I don't know like. I mean at times article didn't come out yet. It's just it's just weirder and it's also like. That film strikes very early two thousands and I'm not like sinophile so I could be completely dead wrong on this, but it just felt. Like You know way older movie than it actually ended up being. So. And that. Up Sorry and then I guess the third conception. Sorry. The secret third one was that I actually was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because as soon as I found out that it was like historical like a history piece because runway was a real person. As like, Oh, well then you know if they had to deal with a real life trans person like they're they're dead in the water like you know they're not going to handle that well. But no round is is a real. She was made for the movie. So cool. Great. Love that for us. So. Yeah. I wonder because Silas one of the things that you had mentioned that you had focused on when talking about the movie was a lot more of a real life historical things that were going on and about the real life of what was happening. Can you talk a little bit about that? Yes so Aside, from knowing about, you know sort of the kerfluffle about jared leto playing the part and hearing a little bit about that when the movie came out the other thing that I really had a bee in my bonnet about is the fact that Ron Woodruff was not straight. And he did talk about long clearly had some stuff but. They just. Changed him to be straight and altered his character quite a bit and watching it. It's so clear to me that they were like, how do we make this the straight male hero anti hero type that the straight people will come see the movie for? And so that to me like before, we even get to any issues of transphobia homophobia of that in the Bi phobia that really just made me now it becomes this sort of like. The straight guy in the hero of a crisis that you know certainly straight people and all people belong to this lots of. It was but it was primarily focused on the queer. Community. And sort of start off before you even have a chance to give the film the benefit of the doubt with that erasure just really for me. Through me completely out of it it was I wasn't able to come to the film really with. A kind of the I at that point.

"Right fresh from what? I'm calling rehearsal last week because I forgot to record. It's a brave new world unto absolutely marvelous comedian. And I'M GONNA say pop culture savant raise Callahan. Hello rely highlight yes. I am pop culture savant. That's what I let. I feel like I just have too much space in my brain taken up by stupid fats about celebrities and pop cul. I'd say it's just enough. Yes just enough and speaking of pop culture. I've had loads and loads of people sending me an article about the subject today claiming that he is now a cult leader who we talking about. A we talking about jared letter ACTA MUSICIAN. Supposedly a model Guy About town. And he's supposed cult. Jared Leto the Guy who looks. Like someone's bad drawing of Jake Dylan whole yeah. Basic never been a fan personally are a lot of people especially you know when I was young. Girls Light Oh my God jared Leto. But he's never really done it for me. Naar he's got the crappies and also I don't think he's got a sense of humor. He takes himself seriously at. Its ended all NAR so I had to go back and just familiarize myself with what he's done and I will say this is too good things about it one. He's very good ACTA. I'm GonNa give that as a songwriter. He's a fantastic actor and any gives a lot to charity super super rich but yeah because he's really rich. I mean it's like if I gave five dollars to charity right now. It'd probably because of how much how little money I haven't probably percentage wise more than he has given 'cause I'm not sure that jared leto has started a cult but will investigate that pile and the no pile but I think he's on the tipping point and it would just take something like a lead obita charity for to push him so on jared but I feel like he was just a typical like handsome actor guy for a while Bit of a hard like dieted. Everybody I think I didn't engaged to Cameron Diaz says yeah I white so who? She's dated Justin Timberlake and is it. She's still with one of the Madden's and Yeah. I remember that I saw Madden's alike. Baldwin's don't know where the edges are don't know how many there And who's going to be all right? Let's slam through your basic jared and then we'll get onto the cult stuff. I like that. He was born in Bossier City in Louisiana. 'cause like I feel like I could have been born in Bossia overseas. I I wasn't interview. Sorry to cut you off but this It was like an interview with him before he was famous that it was in some like E. entertainment or whatever. They're like an interview from the Archives. Jared LETO and he was getting interviewed outside like a nightclub but there are asking about like the popular dances of the time and he hasn't really strong accent. He's like Oh yeah you know Like the kind of dancing that they do. I didn't realize that was a Louisiana accent. But he's changed his accent on purpose over time and didn't you neely interview him. Yes that is correct It was probably one of my biggest of many professional cups that I've done Do top press record. Well I didn't even get to that point but The the pressing recalled thing. I can say that I did to Ruby rose in grant Smiley grand follies prominent Australian Day Jay and I did an interview with them and then I was like Oh my God and Ruby. Rose was like you didn't press record. Did you never be rise? I didn't anyway so 'cause I used to work in commercial radio so I used to like Interview lots of like bands and pastas and stuff. It was pretty cool and I write scripts for like a radio show But Yeah House. interview Thirty Seconds Tamaz. He's banned turing and then I dislike Ozzy my early twenties and then I just like posted on facebook about it. 'cause like back then we just saw that like Al personal facebook without personal facebook. We can say whatever we wanted on there and just be like released super unprofessional. You ended up basic era of facebook. Waiter slide I'm hungry and then you post that yet. Nothing funny about it just like just complaining. You know say the bitch your like are the ones that are like just do with some people right. Now don't talk about it and then everyone who kebe that kind of shape and you're right you're right. I don't want to talk about it. Just WanNa post about it and got some attention get attention so I posted on Was a cool job. That had now is like. Oh my God. I'm supposed to be interviewing like jared letter tomorrow but like I didn't even care like I was never into him like I. I don't even like jared ladder. Just posted that fired of that and then Auditor not long after my boss comes up in his like Yana Interviewing Jared leto. Tamar anymore and well because I forgot that the publicist that worked for the Record Label. That was looking off the giant Used to work at our company and my facebook friend. She at appreciate that end up being and then I got banned from doing interviews so and so you went straight by T. facebook and just went. Oh my God even more aleve. How much of an asshole? My boss is just annoying and I felt like some probably exciting anecdote like probably up but usually very exciting yet. You more exciting than I was going to interview him and I didn't. I think I learned to listen from that. But I'd like to blame jared leto somehow. I I never stopped right. So born in Bossier in Louisiana and Bossia and it's across the river city Shreveport have they share an all women's flat track Rolla Dhabi tame called the twin city knockers. I mean steady knocked his like I want so alike. I think I need to have a TESA sitting on. It should open thirty seconds to Mars shirts. Really feel proud of where he came from. Yes he was an Ala. A women's sport that's what he would do. That's right jared letter. Why are you dragging your feet on the old Rowley Dhabi? Yeah so he went to art. School like really cool. People like main did and like fine art painting. Fine him or me either but I did and I don't know I think Hedo that he really he. He gravitated towards the film school. Kind of thing. I can imagine him just like hanging out with these unique friends but like tolkien. A lot about all the amazing Jake's is GonNa work on but just getting started in like partying but not really that people would be like. He's amazing because he's attractive because he's yeah he's the hot guy. The Party Smoking Dariz token talking about on. Wa can have another one of my roles. Yeah of course you can have my loss via an always acting stuff so he started in my so called life. Playing Klay dines love interest. He was window. Narodni boyfriend in going to -rupt it which I just think I mean the star of The star of that movie is really the chickens under the bit. So pull pull jared. He's always a supporting act up. I feel like I just. I feel like L. interrupted his one of those movies. Detroit of the like Crazy Hawk. Go and then. She's like Oh. Isn't there a same wishy? Like CAUGHT SOLAR HAIR OFF. One of those is it. Engine DOTS with Angelina. Jolie's in that. Yeah she's Hot and light doing a whole like I'm a crazy hot gale and like oh I'm Gonna I'm crazy. Imminent cut all my hair off with like really blunt seizes but then looks really hot off towards the accident. Oh my God that was I was trying to. I was trying to act out now. I've got an adorable Picot. What's Woopsie I still up to make the hey? He kind of played a member in fight club. He was obliged blunt dude cold angel face which. I'm sure he loved. He played a heroin addict. Requiem for a dream with a really mucky on and he was an American psycho and he's got corn rows in panic room. I don't remember him from that at all so I looked up. Looked him up on the trial and oh he's never looked. Why Shaw Guard and that saying something else there would have been like. Oh my God that was again. Was that like when you could get away with a cultural appropriation. Imogene Lynn. Yeah for that. He won all sorts of awards for playing a Trans Woman in Dallas Buyers Club and then he won all sorts of people calling him decayed in suicides. squad when he played the and it was 'cause he does these hardcore method acting where he loses hates away or he I think to play Heron. He gave up sex for two months and donate so. That's like not giving up sex for a lot of people there like that. Yeah that's like a normal two months yeah but fit fit fit. I've gone full full methods like two months without sex like much. Like normal people like they. Maybe they can't get six for that. Make make giving up edgy. Might Toast for one day. That's a terrible. That's a really. It's a really good analogy. But even on this set of suicide squad. So hey he's idea of method acting was to everyone was supposed to call him. Mr J instead of jared because Jirka and hey played hilarious pranks on people like Sending costs members dead pigs. I know bathes use condoms and live rats. This why and there was. Isn't there a worse thing? The used condoms used condoms. Like what that's not that makes use. That's like a yeah. That's bullying and abuse. This is why actors get away with so much. She like they just all this. So eccentric is like nor that's psycho and no one should have to put up with used condoms being sent to them odds. Yeah I'm just sending you some of my chest up. Jeez because I'm just getting into character. Oh He's a dick yet his dig in. I feel like that says a lot about his personality I I just want to like I mean. He's like he's hooked up with a Lotta people as I said but think like Human Lindsay Lohan will on and off for awhile during a movie together about the that killed John Lennon and she was the love interest on white for that one so all that yeah he looked we'd maybe he wasn't having sex Lens Lindsay Lohan. Really it was. He was method. I'll yet he was just pretending to he was going back to to method. Acting will okay. So I don't know if you saw this dylan sprouse of the sprouse twins that will like childhood tain stocks that had like a Nickelodeon Linsey Lynsey these Dr Sar- He tweeted in late May twenty eighteen. He was like your jared letter now that you've slid into the dams of every female model age age. Twenty five what would you say your success right is and James Gone? You know who is no? Joker, Commentary

"Going to be a podcast her everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now and Stewart and this is the host who always has negative thoughts Jacob joker a movie that I could not believe have the height around it that it did I can't recall the last time a superhero film was Ben so polarizing I mean people worried about shootings in theaters people saying Joaquin deserves an Oscar yeah it was all over the place coming out of Toronto Oh this is going to be the film of the year it's going to get all the Oscars and then Todd Phillips director opens his mouth and got a lot of backlash for what he thought we're comedy was these days yet all the place with this film that said I got to say this one took me by surprise I assumed that DC was in free fall. I mean we have all commented on how their output has been inconsistent can we all agree at best putting it nicely right that they have not had the scene unless nece that the Marvel Universe has been able to bestow on all of their works when I heard they were doing a one off joker movie I was like that sounds like a bad idea story are you getting those marvel paycheck saying they're in free fall I mean wonder woman made one of a billion dollars off man made a billion dollars what kind of free was that will somebody say well I don't care what the hardcore people think the truth of the matter is a lot of their movies have stone DOC and they've not consistent the fact that we have a one of joker movie this joker that we're told will never appear with Batman what the hell are they doing marvel would never do that is what I guess I would say sure but I don't mind that like what is the best spider man film Spiderman entered the spider verse like that is not connection to the m. c. you or what Sony is doing with Tom Allen's spider manoeuvres etta any of that so I don't mind a one off if you can just pull off a good movie I don't care if it's in any kind of continuity villain standalone movies making a Superhero movie without a superhero has not been something I've thought has worked before I mean Holly Aries cat-woman Tom Hardy thinom they could never figure out how to do sinister of six I mean you could even probably throw the Star Wars prequels into that concept having the super villain story told without a counterpoint of heroism where's our entry point who are we supposed to be with and what are they going to accomplish the you mentioned marvel I think that DC here is taking a cue from Marvel's newest acquisition Fox Todd Phillips talked about how it took a lot of convincing at Warner Brothers to let him do an R. rated joker movie but that was the only thing he was pitching and he's literally hearing responses from Warner brothers like we sell joker pajamas at target what are you going to do to our character that might hurt Pyjama sales and look at the roads that deadpool paved and I think even more specifically logan going more dramatic and being R. rated you can't beat marveled by playing Marvin those game the way you beat marvelous by making your own Fox did that and nobody is even see new mutants because nobody knows what to do with it again the X. Men horror movie yeah they've experimented sometimes those experiments have been successful I'm just saying approaching this project hearing the we're going to do a one off film about the region of joker seemed like a waste of time I was not excited about this movie at all until I saw the trailer Yeah Al admit I mean after seeing what happened to jared Leto in jokers role in suicide squad. We'll see at that movie he doesn't think he was in that movie enough he's got a scene it was not overly excited to see what they would do with joker now what I will say is somewhere at this very moment jared Leto has pissed Yeah Joaquin Phoenix get attached this because that's what I would have gotten excited you know he's one of those actors like Tom Hardy who's like a Nicholas cage who is just going to make some decisions and go with them they could be czar. They could be captivating like that trailer yeah they really tapped into Martin Scorsese in that taxi driver field but I was even more excited about Joaquin Phoenix playing this role and should be pointed out he is the man that would be doctor strange he has quartered comic book movies before and walked away saying this is not really for me why do this one he was also offered the role of Bruce Banner the reason he didn't do them he didn't WanNa sign multi picture contracts he didn't want to do what Chris Evans and Robert Downey junior did where the next seven years of your life you're working basically as a day player for marvel here it's a one picture deal and the ways they got him on board for this one it was Todd Phillips again Joaquin was connected from the very beginning and the Pitch Phillips gave him is we're going to make a real movie but we're going to get warner brothers to fifty million dollars for it by calling it fucking joker yeah how did Todd Phillips and doing this because I've seen a lot of his films old cool that hangover trilogy these are not things that I associate with a Gritty New York Scorsese style film you saying that and coach when I look at this filmography I hadn't seen most of what he meant. Yeah they're bad comedies well he makes kind of comedy I don't patronize the I'm not ever interested in watching skin hutch that's just not something I'm going to see I did see war dogs which I actually thought it was a little underrated I thought it was pretty good it's okay yeah kind of fell apart at the end yeah thought it was decent as well and it was four dogs that actually got this happening as he was at an early screening of war dogs with Warner brothers and realize is is exact phrase was war dogs wasn't going to set the world on fire as so he started talking to Warner about what could we make that's going to really get attention and do a little bit more be a little more provocative look way down on his resume his first film and you might actually see why he really got the Gig I was doc I didn't realize I had always heard about this documentary about the punk icon singer G- yeah I did not know top Phillips did that I have seen it ooh those are some live performances you wanna be careful with he strips down throws a species tough stuff to watch yeah I watched the movie I was like Oh I've always wanted to see it this gives me an lent reason it may be the closest of all his films to joker it begins with an actual endorsement from John Wayne Gay see another killer clown so yeah brutal I don't know that I'm telling people I recommend that experience be prepared I don't say this lightly it is very punishing it is very hard set is provocative and ways a lot of people probably want appreciate but you can't see a director who's very much trying to confront a freak entertainer and I do think at a core G G Allen and joker are two sides of the same coin so I would be interested to see a guy that came from punk rock bring a punk rock aesthetic to of joker movie if we must Gotcha Joker Origin Story. I WanNa say though I'm hesitant because I mean I always liked the way Keith Ledger played it how did I get my scars there's a danger and telling US definitively how joker came to exist right. There's something about the mystery we want to leave I've always liked the mystery the funny thing and you can go back to books and Nachos where in our talks about the killing joke written by Alan Moore the joker says I always change my story but here's the version I'm going to tell of my own gin and they tell an origin story and then just as origin story we're just GonNa make that the real thing but yeah I've always preferred him to be like Batman rewritten so obsessed with origin Martha Thomas Wayne Getting Killed and the pearls and walking out Zora all of that that has been told so many times joker being the opposite of Batman I liked that you just this mysterious chaotic clown figure that comes out of nowhere yeah I've definitely was thinking the killing joke when watching this and how it took elements of that in that Comic Book Joker was a failed stand up comedian who was kind of down on his luck in a rundown older Gotham city but I came in I think we might be seeing virtually and adaptation of the killing joke minus all the Batman stuff no they definitely go in a different direction with this but it gave them a good starting point and joker said he likes his origin story to be multiple choice. DC is having both ways they're gonNa make their continuity multiple choice switch movies do you want and continuity go ahead that's weird for me that we're seeing something that I should not think of as a comic book movies essentially what they're telling me don't worry I'll have nothing to do with Zam Aquaman wonder woman and all of that I mean did they even have that DC logo they have that old school Warner Brothers logo show up no DC logo okay and yet I mean it's not just your average comic book movies this movie's doing bigger than a lot of films I mean it's opening bigger than the average thor film it's maybe not topped here it's not spiderman but I'm not really it's no atman though it's beaten that man right yeah this is going to have a ninety million joining in the US. The biggest October release of all time is it Halloween in the mood for something kind of scary after it we want another killer oh but it's shocking to me the box office for what essentially feels a little art film is so huge and that it's rated R. You can't get teenagers in which is where marvel makes its money is they are aiming specifically at thirteen to seventeen year old market with their PG thirteen films and yes adults can like it in younger kids can like it but they're keeping that content for a rated R. Film in an error where in my experience it's much harder for young people to get into a rated R. Film that it made this much money is shocking to me I expected it to do well I didn't expect it to break venoms record

"The the howard stern show what about jared leto see too weird hang out with i see him at things every so often nice to see him but it's not like it's not not like like we're we're buddies i have great affection for him do you yeah yeah he's too wild i think i guess he brought he brought me to my first club when i was i was fourteen i was you know is that appropriate no he was he was very fraternal with me he was very protective of me much older was he then you much a really well i don't know at the time he seemed ancient you're thirteen fourteen fourteen was twenty one or something that is ain't onto yeah right you're yeah yeah and he was your first makeup which is really kind of weird there were there were these stage directions in that scene where it said angela kisses jordan's face what what what is that about like why would she kiss his face and it was yeah so i had that question on set and he had to kind of explain each me issue it's ridiculous as you never kissed a boy before maybe once or twice or something i wasn't getting into the subtleties of making out i wasn't like venturing into other territories of the face beyond the kid was so good looking jared leto was shocking shockingly good listening like better looking than women oh yeah and alarming he must have been going through a weird thing in his life at that point because he was such a throb and he's in his twenties i think it must be strange to be that beautiful actually i think it after certain point it can be it can be dangerous or an impediment i you know i do i think it's probably an it's so weird to for a fourteen year old to be making out with a twenty one year old even though it's on camera and all that other stuff.
