NFL picks, 2021 NFC Championship best bets

"My FC NFC gambling picks on gonna start In the NFC Packer's going up against the Bucks. We've obviously talked a lot about these games today, and also this week the Packers are out right now. To between a three and a 3.5 point favorite. Right now, Fanduel has them at three. I don't think it's gonna matter, really, although getting three is better than 3.5, given how often the game can end on a three point line, But I feel like the Packers are gonna pull away from the box. Like what I'm seeing from them offensively. I love the defense stepping up and I think a little bit. That bucks win was smoke and mirrors against the Saints. Four turnovers from the Saints. In fact, if Jared Cook doesn't fumble late in the third quarter, I think the Saints are poised there to pull away. Remember, he was running in the open field had a first down was gonna put the Saints near to feel Gold territory. If he just goes down on that play and does not fumble at that point in time, the Saints were up seven. They have a good chance to go up double digits. I'm impressed immensely by what Tom Brady has been able to accomplish with this Tampa Bay Buccaneer team. But I actually think the Packers are playing the best of any team in the NFL right now down the stretch at home, potentially some weather issues we know Brady has played well in weather. I think a lot of his Tampa Bay teammates will not coming from sunny Florida to Lambeau. I think it could have an impact on them and on this game, and as a result, I like the Packers in Lambeau to get it done to cover the three or the 3.5, depending on where you get it. I also like The over in this game. I think both quarterbacks offensive performances kind of rounding into shape. I like that. The Bucks. We're taking chances down the field, lot of playmakers at both wide receiver and running back for both these teams. In addition to the proven signal callers in Brady and in Rogers I like the over 51 a half and I like the Packers minus the three or minus the 3.5 dub. How would you break down the NFC Championship game? Do you agree or disagree with my take there? I definitely agree with the Packers side and usually the three or 3.5 is. It's usually a big deal. But I think this should this line should be higher. I think that should be like 4.5 ago. Five or 5.5 even The Packers have been dominating. They've been playing really, really good football. The Bucks they've been winning. But you could point back to the match up earlier in the season 38 to 10, which some of you are, you're going to say, Well, look at what happened when the box played against the Packers. That was week six. And you go ahead. Make your case, but I don't think it's very reflective. I mean, if you want to use prior weeks, I mean, the saint whipped the bucks two times in the regular season without any difficulty at all. And then the box came back and one in the third week. Every game is new, and I'm not worried it really that concerned with the first match up. Yeah, I'm not either I'm with you and I think E mean, this is believe it or not the first time Aaron Rodgers as ever hosted it, NFC Championship game. That's wild. I don't think he's gonna let this opportunity go to waste. I think the Packers Probably the best team in the NFL. Right now. I think they win this game by at least a touchdown. The over under. I'm not really sure I that feels about right to me. I think Green Bay if you're looking, if you want to play it over, maybe play their team total over. As if we like them as much as we do, minus the 3.5. You gotta assume what's the team total right now. 28 like that around there, So let's see what's 50 live math on the air as we know it's not our greatest strength 51 divided by two 25 years now, but it usually 26 27 in that right. I think they're going to score at least four touchdowns. Let's put it that way so that I'll get you over the 28. So I like the Packers minus the points here as well.

Turnovers Doom Saints in 30-20 NFC Divisional Playoffs Loss to Bucs

"Bill. I just want to dive into it here. Because there's a lot to get to after watching the bucks. Beat the saints. Thirty to twenty so new orleans had been in tampa bay twice this season in week. One about four hundred years ago and then again in november. So what was the difference in this game vs those other two. I really simple pablo the saints. Just didn't protect the football. In the two regular season games between these teams the saints won the turnover battle. Both times there are plus three in the week one victory and then one up in the rematch. Tom brady threw five picks across those two games. Only seven in his other fourteen games. That really felt like the saints had his number and they were gonna have to flip that to win in new orleans. Well they flipped. It didn't turn the ball over the saints coughed up. Four times including three interceptions drew brees. The bucks turned the first few takeaways and two touchdowns and use the fourth to wrap up the game and kneel down. It's virtually impossible to win a playoff game. That sort of margin the saints will just sloppy in this game. Mean breeze could have thrown four or five picks. He threw an awful interception under pressure for the first one and on the same page with alvin kamara on a scene route for the second interception. The third bounced off jared cook. Who also fumbled away a completion on a drive where the saints were looking at. Go up to scores. They lost the ball and proceeded to give up seventeen unanswered points to end their season. So clearly the bucks had a formula of sorts for stopping breeze in it seemed like every aspect of this game. But it's not just that they stopped him instead. They made him look straight up terrible really often and i'm wondering how did they do that to that degree. Well i really think that todd bowles bucks defense. Look the tape from last week's game against the bears look how drew brees was playing. Look at how pal those receivers were moving and just didn't think there was anybody in that lineup who could reliably win against man coverage or beat them down field with their speed. This was especially true. After the saints lost deonte harris who had two long punt returns early in this game to a neck injury the saints did get a long touchdown but it was not with brees on the field. It was the lone snap for one jameis winston who came in and use the same trick. Play the bears ran against them last week. For a long touchdown coming across his sanders they handed to them. Refers goes to jameson mega man. Wide open trade smith at the twenty five fifteen ten five and a touchdown saints and jameis winston. What a touchdown pass against his former overall when breeze on the field it was pretty clear at the game plan was to dare him and his receivers to try and take shots towards the sidelines and get downfield and the game plan worked the bucks used heavy doses of twists and stunts upfront create pressure and then just smothered breezes receivers. I honestly it really felt the only reason. Sean payton didn't bench breeze for winston on the last drive. The game is because it was probably a last few snaps of drew brees his career.

Bill Barnwell on NFL Undefeated Teams + Monday Preview

"Bill Barnwell. It is late Sunday night almost midnight, which means it's time for you to make me smarter about the NFL. I'm going to try my best Baba Bill. Barnwell is a senior writer for ESPN host of the Bill Barnwell show and he's procrastinating his deadline to talk to me. So we just watched the saints and the packers on Sunday night football and the saints lost without. Their Star Receiver Michael Thomas. But that did not stop us from getting a whole bunch of touchdowns drew brees and Aaron Rodgers. Each threw for three a piece. But in the end, the packers won the saints lost and they've now lost New Orleans says back to back games for the first time since two thousand, seventeen bill I know you are writing a new piece about drew brees coming off of the two year deal that drew brees signed in the offseason and what we've now seen from him through these first three weeks what did you see in Sunday night's games he regressing improving? What do we have with bruise right now? Okay. So public drew brees definitely improving this is a better performance from him. Me brees was downright bad on Monday night in week two against the raiders before we got to garbage time and breeze didn't do deep very frequently until this game was out of hand but I think the concerns i. have read or have heard about arm strength or how deep is passes typically go they don't really get how reason this offense actually worked. Breezes sort of like. A singles hitter in baseball like Tony Gwynn lagging time where a post player with no range in basketball he's not going to suddenly start throwing deeply. He's Patrick Mahomes at forty one years old breeze has succeeded. Over the last three years while throwing the shortest paths in the League because he's posted the three best single season completion. In NFL history. Now. The good news for the Saints Good News For Saints Fans is that brees was much more accurate on Sunday night it was twenty, nine, thirty, six for two, hundred, eighty, eight yards a lot of that West Alvin Kamara who did a lot of the work but still going to end up thirty six is still better than where brees was. The bad news was just about everything else. The Saints Lost Starters Jared Cook and Andres P to injuries while devante. Adams List Aaron Rodgers threw for two hundred, eighty, three yards and those three touchdowns you mentioned. The saints focused on adding veterans with nicknames Emmanuel Sanders and balcony. Jenkins this off season. But. Sanders hasn't been able to stand out with ankle Thomas Injured and Jenkins has been picked apart in pass coverage including Mercedes Lewis touchdown on Sunday night the attorney for more accurate breeze that was a bright spot. But if the saints continue to struggle with injuries and get disappointing play from their stars, the Orleans is going to need this version of free stick around to have a chance to compete in the NFC. So the packers emerged three no, and that's where a lot of focus the rest of our conversation here on the teams that are now undefeated through three weeks of the NFL season. So bill, let's push deeper into the NFC here because the Chicago Bears Be Chicago bears are somehow three you know and they do it by beating the Falcons thirty to twenty six Chicago was trailing by sixteen head coach. Matt Nagy Decides to pull quarterback Mitch Trubisky in favor of the veteran nick foles mister big bleep nick himself who goes on to throw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. So I have a two part question for you now. Why are the Falcons physically incapable of holding onto a fourth quarter lead and? Secondly, where does this leave the whole quarterback situation in Chicago? Let me answer the second part of that question I. The bears are going to flail by the seat of their pants for the rest of the season I would assume that nick foles is going to start until he struggles and the bears trailing by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter a couple weeks from now, I would point Mitch Trubisky will come in and lead them to victory and the cycle will start the new. Unfortunately I don't have one simple takeaway for our poor friends and Atlantic. Is Different From what we saw in week to as. Much. As the defense was disappointing in this game, the offense really deserves a fair chunk of the blame for what happened scored a touchdown on the opening drive third quarter, and then basically tried to sit on their lead, Matt Ryan and company REPA- total three first downs on their next six is before the bears took the lead back and the only scored one field goal over that time after bisky intercession back running back Brian L. dropped an easy third down conversion which would have put the Falcons and field goal range. Then on the next drive kicker, young coup miss a forty eight yard field goal attempt. I know. I mean let's be fair. The Falcons defense was very bad. I'm not sure the Falcons are gonNA make any drastic changes on Monday morning, but Arthur blank can feel great about seeing this happen. On his seventy eighth birthday and. I believe I'm not mistaken not the only person celebrating birthday on Sunday. Having Birthday Pamela. Day Pablo. Yeah this is a hard way to discover that you share a birthday with the owner of the Atlanta Falcons Bill, which feels like you just cast a pox upon my house.

"On Monday night football breeze 18 for 3160 yards, two touchdowns, No interceptions, sacked once you know what Here's the deal. You give me that blue print of that. Right there. I'm good with that. You give me breeze 18 for 3160 yards even if the two touchdowns I think the Raiders win. If that's his stats at the end of the game, and he's played the whole game didn't get hurt. I'm good with that now. Taysom Hill. You've got to be careful. He was one for 1 38 yard passed, but this guy could do so many things and he can pick him up. Put him down. He rushed three times for 13 yards. He can throw the ball as well. And he can receive the ball as well. So you gotta watch out for the Swiss Army knife. Taysom Hill. No question about it. But without Michael Thomas know, Thomas only had three receptions for 17 yards. Against Tampa Bay. Jared Cook, the ex Raider five receptions, 80 Yards, got to know where he's at and Camaras big out of the backfield, five receptions, 51 yards and a touchdown and then you know that's receiving the ball. That's when he's in space. That's what New Orleans likes for him better than giving him the ball handoff wise. How about 12 carries for 16 yards for Camara? Absolutely pathetic 1.3 Per kari. He did get a touchdown as Faras rushing the ball on the TV's Murray actually had a much better game 15 carries for 48 yards. Ah! I'm telling you, if you can give me the because New Orleans points 34 points, very deceptive there. They did not have a great game. Offensively. I mean, they only put up 280 yards total offense. So You know, I mean, if we're right, and actually remember six of those points was on the pick six that dunderhead here gave to him as well. Right? So, yeah, but that that that's what I'm saying. I mean, well, yes. So you take that seven spot off the off the board. I mean, if New Orleans plays The way they did, and again. Yeah, that never happens. You can always say that, And that's why it's always tough to handicap things, but I'll take it. They were at home. I know it's there's no with the home field advantage the end of the day if New Orleans has the effort that they had on Sunday, even though they want by 11 over Tampa Bay, and the Raiders have the same type effort they had against Carolina. I think the Raiders Khun win this game. You know Michael Thomas coming off three receptions for 17 yards. If he's 100%, you can bet he would be the focal point for Monday night football, But without him there to keep an eye on guys like Deante Harrison now Emmanuel Sanders. He's a veteran. He's a guy. He knows how to sit down in the zone. He sees somebody that can can make plays. But he only had three receptions for 15 years. He did get in the end zone once, so they're going to bring some other guys into the equation, But I really think you've gotta watch out for Camara receiving the football. That's To me the most dangerous guy on the field. Taysom Hill When he's in there, you gotta watch out for him on you gotta you gotta know where Jared Cook is. You don't want to have him single cover too often, Because cook is a guy, you know, Like Waller That is a beast at tight end position. Now, I'd rather have Walter because I think he's got two more speed over overcooked. But cook is a guy and we remember when he was a raider he finds himself One on one. You're going to throw the ball and take your chances because you know more times than not. He's going to come up. Come up with it. Right. Also, though, can do remember that the Saints at the very, very end of the game, and I love this, by the way, considering that I am in Tampa. That Sean Payton had Camargo for that touchdown, which was originally called a touchdown, then was taken off the books, so he was basically a ay out out of Seoul. The shoe I'm having those extra six points that you know that Brady gave him in that pick 60 kind of kind of quality, even that the 34 really was 34 because they didn't get that last six when I was talking about as faras With Sean Payton. Sean Payton put it out there right there. And then that Hey, buddy. All you guys over there in Tampa Land. I think you're gonna walk to you A home Super Bowl in Tampa in February, 2021 anything happened? You've got to go through knowledge to get there. We're still the class of this division, and they made sure even at the very end, you know when, when the game is out of hand goes forward on fourth down was a touchdown called originally didn't get a touchdown. That's the mentality that is going to be going on with with Peyton and the Saints. Now I know it was the divisional game it was. It was obviously a little bit more important to them at that time. I like the fact that they are coming in on a win, and maybe that that that when is going to be you know how you get that really high emotional charge out of a game. That's a divisional game, and they played that last week, and they played it at home. I see what you're saying. And I think like you said, the Raiders play up to their capabilities. Yes, it's going to be a win. If, but they have to be up to their capabilities. They can't wait easy scores. Get to him. They can't you points out on the board. I really think it's going to be again. Ah, high flying game. Gosh, I wish I was there. But then again, everybody wishes that they were there. I'm going to be looking forward to seeing that game and yes, the Raiders can can win. I'm not going to say that. You know, there's no way in hell they're gonna win. I just think it's gonna be a very tight, high scoring game. And Ah, breathe. Assed long and she doesn't pick our defence apart. Then? Yeah, I like our chances that in that way as well and not having Thomas on the field. But maybe they're going to use cook born and obviously cook. Cook knows the Raiders and Grady doesn't know this Interational Raiders because he has had nothing to do with Gruden administration there, But, you know, I'm sure that Cook would love nothing more than to just have a have a breakout game against the team that didn't want to pay him any money. You know, it's mental things like that you have to throw into the equation. Octavius worry would love nothing more than to have a great game against the organization that let him walk. You know, it's a little things like this and again what devious Murray and and you people brought it up. He was a better running back. Then what? Tomorrow's showed the other day. But come on, has all the intangibles that Murray doesn't show to That point? Yeah, if you if you block out tomorrow and you make sure that he doesn't Kill you. And the Raiders did that with McCaffrey. The other day in the cafeteria. Is that top one top three running back and you know he got his yards, But those yards weren't big play yard it they were accumulation yards. And as long as they play Kamar like that, and they spy him and do everything that they need to do. It will be great, but you need to definitely put breeze on his ass. And you need a better effort from our D line to do it, And I think we can I'm like the little engine that could can..

NFL explains why there was no pass interference called on play that eliminated Saints

"We didn't see a lot of Michael Thomas especially like over the middle those are usually when Sean Payton can game plan you to death and just find a match ups no album Camaro in the pass game really know Jared cook would like huge numbers so that tells me there is things being done to take away that short to intermediate pass game of the saints love and then as we saw for really the second playoffs in a row we were sitting there watching the game go and they can't really push the ball down the field they can't really back Minnesota off we accept with taste and health right we would see Minnesota DB sitting on everything I remember coach Dungy one point that they got a thought over their head I mean they're sitting on everything and it became a problem for

"But he's trending more to that that nine to twelve writes, what's I I was ready. I was ready to unleash Baker Mayfield as a top five quarterback. But it's just not working out that way, if you're wrong wiry you wrong if I'm wrong. Reason I'm wrong at least it's not he does not catch enough touchdowns because he's not a volume receiver. He's not a tighter. Here's the thing at four lasts. I've got him at five right? And you guys have them at eleven the difference between the number five titan and the number eleven tight and going in as far as projections. Go is irrelevant. I mean, it's it's it's a handful of points. It's so close together. This grouping tight ends where it's like if one guy gets one more touchdown. He's going to go from the back of the no let's to the front of this list. When you get to the bottom of the tight ends a lot of times you are talking about that. I do have this next player ahead of him. Jared cook Mike you got him at six I got him at seven Jason at eleven last year. He was the only show in town and Oakland tight end five. He's now on the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees gets a throw him the football. The saints since Jimmy Graham left have been the inverse of the whole Bruce Arians doesn't throw the tight end argument that we're trying to say doesn't really exist once Jimmy Graham left the target share of the tied-in because you didn't have the most athletic freak in the league. It has declined. Now last year seventeen point four percent to the tight end position. Jared cook comes in after a sixty eight for eight ninety six and six season. I like him a lot, and I like him a lot because the saints didn't do anything again in the draft day have trae Kwan Smith and Ted Ginn both guys. I don't consider high volume receivers they have Michael Thomas who soaks up targets all over the field. Jared cook if you told me right now what let me ask you you. This question might what are the odds of Jared? Cook has the second most. Okay, I'm not count Alvin Kamara album compares the second most show could out of the past catchers running rounds. Is cooked who you have projected at number three behind Camerin. Michael thomas? It's not outside of the realm of possibility there, you the point I was gonna hit on was people are talking about the saints didn't add anybody. They added Jared cook. And I don't love Jared cook. But I really like his situation. He's on one of the best offenses in football now, and he at least has some juice. I mean coming off almost nine hundred yards. I he could rooks can give me an age check on Jared cut fifty thirty to thirty two I'm guessing, but I'm guessing, but you're correct. That is correct. But what's his age Brooks? Yes. Thirty two though, it would it would not be shocking to see a near identical stat line at the end of the season of nearly seventy receptions nine hundred yards and six touchdowns. It would not surprise me at all. I would still be surprised if he gets up near nine hundred. Yards. But it's not it's not outside the realm of possibility. I think we got a we've been really excited in the past Benjamin Watson, and, you know, whoever comes in in the tight end is like all this. He he's gonna take that Jimmy Graham spot, and it hasn't really been there. We did not make that argument, by the way, neither of us. Please don't bring that into into the fold. I do not want to say he's an ex Jimmy Graham, not any any stretch of the as the next Jimmy Graham. If like you're talking about Jimmy Graham, right right now, I haven't fifty five or sections how many? Seven hundred yards six touchdowns. That's all it takes to be number nine. And I don't think it's fair to say they didn't bring anybody in this off season outside of Jared cook. Because Adam Humphreys who used to be pronounced with an unfreeze. He moved on at Tennessee..

"A guy who can perfectly replace what Jared cook brought to the team not to say that it's just like instantaneously is going to be a plug and play situation. But he has he has similar skill set to what Jared cook had he's he's highly athlete. Pretis Bradley a lot of ways like Thai he's a wide receiver in a tight ends body. And and they fill a major need the the major need that they didn't have going in the offseason when the head jerk opened up when when cook left sign with the saints and build replace him with a young guy like this is a pretty good thing. Pretty is important that they are able to fill this need with one of these top tight ends in a draft. That's got some pretty good tight ends at the top of it. So Tyler here with me as usual to give his take on the selection of no fan at the twenty four thick what do you think in Tyler? I really like it. I think fan is definitely I agree with you that he's the second best tight on the draft. And that's only because TJ Hawkins San who's an equal athlete to fan is probably the best blocker in the draft outside of some of the top offensive tackles. He's just such a such a great locker when you have to run outside runs to the outside. And just get the edge Hopkinton. We'll be there to just seal that off and and get those holes for the for the running backs fan. Does that too does not quite as effectively Hopkinson Stanton? Runs a four or five fan of six foot four inches tall two hundred and forty nine pounds. He's just an absolute physical specimen. I mean, he's he's an all American outta high school wind high school, Nebraska Joe's, Iowa, but in high school, he ran track. He did triple jump and hurdles. Long jump. He's he's just a a fantastic athlete. He's exactly the kind of guy that would open up the offense for the raiders and give just one more weapon to Derek Carr with all the wide receivers that we signed you still need that tight end to to sit down in the zone over the middle and make people respect the the middle passing game. So I'm a big fan of this. Honestly. Well, thank you. I'm glad I'm glad you approve. You know, it occurred to me like well, the raiders have picked just a couple spots Slater could could could you wait on taking fat? But there's really no reason to to do that to risk that with his as as talented as he is and as much of a need as it is for the raiders to bring a tight end here. There's no need to take that risk. When you're looking at the board at the way, the the the blogger mock draft was was shaping up Hopkinson gone a little ways before that. And that's pretty much a widely expected that hockey will be long gone for the raiders pick. And and honestly in the offseason, even when they had Jared cook, I thought that had they held onto cook taking Hopkinson would have been ideal complementary piece to cook. But with cook gone a think Fant is a better pick in that he replaced. I mentioned before that. Replaces that skill set. They lost in Jared cook. So it's better pick in that regard. And they just look at look at their raw numbers, and they have fairly similar numbers when it comes to receiving whatnot. But TJ Hopkinson is a better blocker. That's why he would make twice the more complete tight end. But he had nine touchdowns and no offense had twice as many in the last two seasons. He had eighteen touchdowns the last two seasons. So you definitely get that red zone threat..

"Fantasy relevance goes up with Jared cook added to the equation. Same with Andrew line. You know, say whatever you want about the talent level of these players. They are in great opportunities. They have great opportunities. I mean, and so I think that they're both big time winners this free agencies. Have you seen any of the quote? And I didn't know it's you can get coachspeak. It's got to be careful. But if you've seen the way that Frank Reich talks about Devin funchess, he talks about in the way that I have of of years past which is like he is he is madly in love with Devin funchess see like there. I want quote I wanted to take. And I'm like, oh my goodness. I was like, please. Let's get this guy. He talks about his route. I think he's a good route runner. But I always get made fun of say this thing is right. Have the he had the DVR on one and a half speed. So he he looked real good. My point is he's young look jails to say these things about you gave him a one year deal. You can say we brought him in. He's got an opportunity instead of oh my goodness. Well, sure either. Now, I get it. I mean, Dante Moncrieff last year. You know, what they say those things about Moncrieff? You know, what's funny is a lot of these deals when when you go and look at him. So it comes out, you know, the one year ten million dollar plus deal for funchess. And and you know, it's approved deal. And then you go look at Tiro Williams, and he comes out three years more money all this jazz. But you've got to be careful especially for players if you're playing a dynasty look at the contract once the actual details. Come out, you could take it on spot track. I just wanted to bring up a lot of these three year deals that we're seeing our one year deals. They're like tyrel Williams got all his guaranteed money in this year. So it's basically like a ten million dollar one year contract where they can cut him afterwards. After one year, it's not really a much different deal than I feel like I would rather be on funchess's deal. But anyways, does just an aside. Yeah. And for context, I mean, we remember drew Brees with Jimmy Graham since he left the saints have been in the bottom ten in terms of percentage team targets tight end because they haven't had somebody. As competent as Jared cook been Watson was okay for a half. He was and I think that that's more the point is he was sharing snaps. I mean, Jerry cooks and be on the field a lot for this deal, especially when you look at why he chose New Orleans. What about over someone like New England the postman din? Sure. Another guy on my dynasty team. That's great. All right. My my fantasy football winners and losers. So my big winner. It's there's the mania. It's Baker Mayfield. And he didn't even win through a free agent signing just was this off season period. Where somehow his team was able to trade for a future hall of fame wide receiver who's in the the peak of his career when they already had surrounded Baker by high level weapons. Baker was good for famous fifty percent of the time last year started elevating really showing what he could do. Freddie kitchens took over the play calling and the guy. Hugh Jackson out of their bigger was crazy this off season because people were taking them as the sixth the fifth quarterback off the board. And that was we're all in our is going. I couldn't by listeners of the moment in. I'd love Baker which I mean, I think it comes to how much I how highly I think a Baker Mayfield is a player but now with Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry as two primary pass catchers. He's probably worth that price because he will finish as top five quarterback. He has immunity to a horrible season. Like, he has some sort of like ODA Beckham junior. Jarvis Landry in Joko, Callaway, they give you some sort of baseline like, I don't I don't think. Baker mayfield's guaranteed a top five season. I really don't know. I don't think so. I agree. "Tied in get paid this money and deliver for fantasy owners. It's difficult to do all the hype. I mean, look Matt Nagy got coach to the right. Yeah. They were a playoff team. Right. Mitchell Trubisky took a step forward. Right. Trae and got paid a ton of money. Right. And he's supposed to fill the Travis Kelsey role. Yeah. Fifty four for five sixty nine and six that's not good. But here's what's even worse. Let's look at how he finished the year after week ten. And if you look at the last third of the season from week eleven on he would he would have been on pace for a solid forty eight three sixty one into his usage regulates. It was terrible. And yes, he finished as the number seven and you drafted him as the number four. So you feel like that should be anatomy because the loss. But there's a I I'm not in on word abor- next year. That's for sure. Yeah. So the question really becomes. Okay. Two years in the system. Maybe Mitchell Trubisky gets a little bit more accurate say what you want about his big game stretches. He was also very bad at times through the year. Can Trey Burton be valuable next year. Because unlike Jerry could be more value your cooked to me Austin Hooper to me those guys they're not going to have a good next year. But Trey Burton still could to me I'm leaving the door open for Trey Burton. He's not going to move up to the elite category though. No, no, that's the dorm closing. Yes. The just your your closing the so there's there's like you got the half door the kid door on the bottom. You'll even that one. What do they call those breath? You remember what are the door with the nurse from the bottoms? It's the pi door you call it a pie. What? Because you put the pie on the top. You set the pie on top of the door. I'm just trying to make a name for it. Yeah. No. There is a name for the half door. The we pulled ahead door is not going anywhere. Good kid door. This just gives the pie door. What do you call? It a dodge store there. Now, what were we talking about? Again. We're saying we'll leave the bottom of the Dutch. Store. Open to be a serviceable more consistent tight end. But he doesn't get to walk through like a grown. You got to go to duck. Yeah. He's not going limbo. He's not going to be in the elite category. But he could take a step forward that I used he could he could walk himself into the Jared cook category a production. I could see him putting up seventy for eight fifty five six so but they look matinee he's not dumb. He's not going to focus on one guy. They've got weapons there. They have other players. And when you when you have a pass catching weapon out of the backfield that also diminishes the need to lean on a guy. Even you know, he's a field stretching tight in. So. Yeah, I mean, I I think he's disappointing fairy car Rudolph and number eight so disappointing in fact that I don't know that anyone's ever lost their nickname. Oh. Trey boo, boo. If if you've noticed trae boo boo to not make the shirt. Oh my goodness. Spot on the shirt. That's a little we thought of him. Wow. Well, I mean, he's like hope you feel disrespected trae Burke, Gwen Terrell Pryor didn't get it done. Yeah. What are we gonna put dumpster saying that he turned into Trey boohoo or Trey pooh-pooh trash the one? That's it. Transcendent nailed it the one call Rudolf Jason. Yeah. He's just like a middle of the rack now t shirt that fits fine. Nope. That is the that is way too kind for what he did this year. All right. What did he do? He is the shirt that used to be a little tight. And now is Ray it's wrong. And he's he was one hundred percent kind. You've you eight I've been eating poor. And I'm I gotta wear this out. It's not dark the nips or selling something about us showing some about you talking like this about Colorado. It gives you join me a lot of joy, look he finished number nine on the season reason, visit Rudolph's a little tight the reason he finished number nine on the season was week sixteen. So if you happen to play him in your championship game was awesome. The bus. What were you doing the three percent of the time?.

"So one year old unrestricted free agent Jared cook, unfortunately, not that old for career highs across the board for him. He did everything he could. To get himself a deal summer, right? Yeah. No. You probably get a job. I think he'll be back with these raiders. Leaders housing say the raiders new home. You said he's great a home. His home is changing. Yeah. They'll be in San Francisco this year. So they're not changing their name though. Right. No, no. They're not. I mean, they will next year or two years from now. What's yeah. Yeah. Do you think they're gonna say the Oakland Raiders instead of Las Vegas, Mike? Oh, no. I thought you were saying they were going to be I thought you were implying that they were changing the maximum. It is interesting. Will they be the Oakland Raiders they'll weighing in San Francisco while Oakland? Yeah. Sues them. Wow. What a mess. What if they just what if as a protest to the the lawsuit in the city, they just throw an Asterix on the Oakland. Jared cook Oakland, Raiders, Jared cook, look we had a show early last season where I had to defend my rank YouTube Jared cook now, no, no, my point is I was high on them because of the options no matter where he goes next year. He's not going to be a very relevant tight end. He's not if he stays around in Oakland. He's he's a guy where he'll get off. He'll do the jerk cook the five percent chance. He's back in Oakland week one he'll have a decent week. So if you want to draft up, and then trade him, or whatever he's done it so many times where his first week is like, whoa. Jared cook in the disappears. He actually had some future games as the year went on that were good. But no, I mean, that's not even why even talk that much about Jerry cook. Would you draft him ahead of? Any of those other guys you mentioned when discussing where eight hundred ninety six passing yards six touchdowns one hundred one targets not head of the guys. They just brought up. No, no. But what I draft him. Yeah. I would draft who would you? Okay. How about this? Jared cook who busted half his games. But had thirty one percent great. Yeah. For one hundred yard games or Austin Hooper with a better offense, a better quarterback going over state this. But I would rather be dead than playoff. I'd rather be dead than have him as my titan. So you would rather have Jared cook. I would rather have a bag of Doritos. Okay. Yeah. The flaming hot one. I don't care. What can look us? It can be done. I do not wanna start Austin Hooper as my titan Hooper this season as the number six tight end in Stockton the top. We have to talk about him. Now, the top remove top half of the top twelve tight ends. And I could not agree with you anymore. Mandy, rather be dead. I don't want it. If he's my. Like drafted tight end after the draft. I quit that is that because he's the consistency rank of fourteen despite the number six ranking. Yes, that is part of why he never had great games while he had he had the two weeks span where they were dealing with some injuries week five and six in Atlanta, weeks five and six double digit targets nine receptions, both those games over seventy yards and both those games. And that was just the Dow was the litmus test. It was okay. Awesome. Hooper was a third round pick. He's been touted for a long time. We got to game sample going on. And then vaporize in the next two games. Enough was terrible. So I I'm with you guys who often Hooper's equal one Travis Kelsey if you want context for the number six overall tied in Kelsey scored twice as many points as the number six rotator. That's where you're at. And I. I feel like what I said may he may not be as inclined to come on the show at some point. That's a problem. But here's the thing. You got a string three games together. Oh, I gotta have you gotta get into flames. Austin Trey Burton in Kyle Rudolph at seven and eight Trey.

"You believed, and we believe that he would bounce back to be what he was. And he is another player. We don't know if he'll be he'll be back there. If a gronk goose, oh, this is a goose. I think he's I think it's over. I mean, you know, reading the reports early in the offseason about how Bill Belichick if the if the investigative journalism is to be believed that knowledge check wanted to get rid of Brady and go with Garoppolo and trade gronk for value. I mean, are you telling me the patriots wouldn't have been better off? Yeah. He's a pretty good evaluator of went to get rid of players, generally. Yeah. Not not one hundred percent. But generally, well, you could always tolerate injuries when the recuperated gronk was better than everybody in football by a wide margin. It's less exciting now. So we'll see. You gotta cook goose because Jared cook was to for twenty not good. I think that covers the pooper does it. Well, we'll get into so many more. We'll we'll be bending in towards next year given the awards away. We'll do a little mock draft for the first round in see where we have guys slotted in way way in advance of next season. Just some quick notes on the playoff scenarios for this week. If you're in a week, seventeen games me if you want to know. Whether teams are motivated to play because that's really what matters in in in who they start decisions that they're going to make look you have a lot of situations like Dallas where Jerry Jones is coming out and saying we're going to give it give it our all we're going to go all out. I don't believe you. I believe you at all. I do not believe that you're going to play Yukio Elliott for four quarters in this game this week because there's nothing on the line for them of significance. So. They can say that. But then read between the lines with the playoff picture. The chiefs patriots Texans. Ravens Steelers chargers they own need to win. They all got something to play for Texans can win the AFC south with a win. The ravens can clinch with with the win the north the Steelers desperately need to win and then hope for some help. And the chargers need to win the west with a Kansas City lost versus Oakland, not likely, but Oakland has been playing better we need to give credit to that team. They beat Denver this week pretty easily and they are playing better to in the season. They also beat Pittsburgh two weeks ago. So I so you're so you're telling me there isn't telling you that there's a chance that the the Kansas City. Chiefs are playing in the wildcard round is that I'm saying madness. We've got also a chance that Pat Mahomes throws eight touchdowns. Yeah. It's very true. Good point Jason. The colts titans. They really need wins. This week the colts save their season by coming back and beating the giants last week. A wind gets them a playoff spot is that true. They can actually win the title. They have sea south title with Texans loss. But you missed the playoffs. If if you lose. Titans. You win you make the playoffs. So they've got a lot on the line to to hand the ball to Derrick Henry for six to eight thousand times in the NFC. The Rams lockup the number two seed with a win against San Francisco another team playing pretty well. But you'd imagine the the Rams could take care of business and then the bears lock up the number two seed with the win as well. And Minnesota's playing for their lives as are the eagles. So the Vikings eagles expect all their players to play in the Seahawks. They're on a roll right now as well. So any other thoughts on playoff scenarios bring up the only other thing? I would bring up is there's going to be a lot of questions about the saints. You know, are they going to play their players because they've got everything locked up a lot of a lot of people near the team does not believe what is being said. But according to. Sean Payton, if you read kind of his press conferences reports sounds like they're gonna they're gonna play everything they're going to play it like a normal game. It's just one of those questions like Andy's belief in Dallas. Do you believe? Yeah. It doesn't happen. Well, and there's so many different thoughts about whether it's beneficial sit geyser not sit guys, here's here's here's the truth..

Raiders craft a day to remember in a season to forget

"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Raiders crafted data remember in a season to forget by an Killian, call it. The revenge of the Coliseum every raiders game in Oakland. Feels like a week these days one final farewell to the memories in the moments that have filled Oakland Raiders history with most of the recent ones being largely forgettable for much of Sunday. It looked like game thirteen of the woeful twenty eighteen season was going to be just another whole home losing affair until the Coliseum rose up and said it shall not be. So that this was raiders versus Steelers, dammit for probably the very last time in Oakland, and it was going to be memorable. So after the raiders took the lead with twenty one seconds to play on a touchdown pass from Derek Carr, Derek carrier. And after the Steelers got into position to tie the game. Thanks to a forty three yard, hook and lateral. The old building. And it seeping innards went to work. Sunday's game took place in a chilling December ground fog that cast the Coliseum in gloom slicked the cracked concrete and suck moisture to the surface of the field. It was slippery out there Oakland running back. Jalen, Richard said, I was slipping it's always slippery. Here said tight end Jared cook, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell trotted onto the field for the game tying field goal. Try planted his left leg and as he swung back. His right to kick his plant leg gave out from under him leaving dark Divet in the grass and the raiders filled with joy the raiders had won. They beat their historic rival, Pittsburgh twenty four twenty one for just their second win at home this year and third overall in the midst of the uproarious celebration on the field head coach Jon Gruden ran down to the black hole to high five the fans, it was the type of image that all the citizens of raider nation had in there. Minds when they got the news in January the Gruden was returning to Oakland. But there's been precious little to celebrate. I went to see my old friends all grownup Gruden said we're to in ten actually three in ten after the win. I wanted to thank them. It was an awesome seen today. I appreciate their support. They've been with us. No matter what it wasn't awesome seen black and silver mixed with black and gold. There might never have been so many opposing fans in the Coliseum for raiders game. Every play resulted in a roar from about half the crowd. I was surprised raiders receiver. Seth Roberts said I didn't know they traveled like that. Oh, they do the forty Niners can vouch for that. The Pittsburgh fans whose EM was dampened when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went out with a rib injury and the offense stalled he came back in the game to orchestrate one. Go ahead. Touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. And then got the team into field goal position with. That remarkable lateral play. But then the Coliseum rose up and did its work and rothlisburger exited without having one in Oakland leaving with an Owen four record. So Big Ben what were the field conditions like out there? Terrible. He said, but we knew that coming in. I shouldn't say terrible. I'm sorry. That's the wrong word the conditions weren't ideal. But our offensive coordinator Randy Fitch ner had addressed it all week and preached it every day to the offense. He said to make sure you have the right shoes. You saw how many times guys slipped out there? I think they might have slipped even more than we did Boswell said he's been using the same cleats since he'd been in Pittsburgh with seems a little crazy given the different conditions. Every NFL field offers, you can't blame anything Boswell said. It's his bad as it is for me as it is for anyone else. The kicker slippage is not going to go down in history with the immaculate reception or other great. Moments in the history of the two teams, but it gave fans a fun outcome in a woeful season. And the woes have continued the raiders are in position for the number three draft choice who will be making the decision. There was a story Sunday morning that general manager Reggie McKenzie would be departing the team after the season all the principles MacKenzie Gruden and owner Mark Davis, no commented on the story, which wasn't exactly groundbreaking. The assumption has been from the moment Gruden arrived and only reinforced as the season has unschooled that McKenzie would be on his way out sooner or later the players who MacKenzie drafted and that Gruden traded also were in the New Sunday receiver Amari Cooper had three touchdowns for Dallas including the game winner in overtime and two hundred seventeen yards on ten catches. The Cowboys are ready to put him in their ring of honor right now and Khalil Mack helped the bears beat the Rams on Sunday night football. A spot the Steelers raiders matchup got flexed out of partially because of max increased starpower. Meanwhile, the raiders sit tied for the worst record in the league with one game left in Oakland this season and ten thousand question marks about their status next season. The building is falling down around them on Sunday night, a janitor discovered to dead mice in the soda machine. In the press box, the one that dozens of people had been using to pour their drinks all day truth what a place, but on Sunday, it gave raiders fans at least one more memorable moment. A win courtesy of the dank damp Coliseum.

"You like noon while over coal? Yes, that's why we want her bet it. Otherwise, in this matchup there's not a lot to be excited about. I don't think there's a lot to be excited about even those two that were competing. We might win eight to six on the fantasy points. Anything else? I think I think you can still throw Blau out there. It's okay. Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine with Powell's. Well, who's that again? Brow. Starts of the week. All right. Starts the week week, four. Let's get it going. I'm going to start with. I win a little deeper on all four of my starts this week. The theme of my starts is confident with say. Three. I'm curious who you owe. One of yours is top five side in right now. Sure. It's still, yes. Yes. It's he's a top five in if I put Jared, Cook's name in there, Mike, would you still feel the same way because dared cooks the top five. Oh, get bodied. I mean, right now for a top-five tied in, doesn't matter that much. It's just it's just a fact. So I'm gonna. Let's start with the tight end since we just alluded to it. Sure. Tied inside of the week. I'm going with OJ Howard OJ. Howard is going to be the beneficiary of a massive bears pass rush. They've given up touchdown. So the tight imposition in back to back weeks and it's going to be hard for fits to go deep repeatedly as he is prone to do. I think a big play from Howard or a touchdown as likely Howard has been trending up. Jason loves him. I think this week is setting up nicely for Howard continue. Yes, maybe stays in that top five for another week. I think you can. I do love him. I think he he was the guy that when a when I went to make my start of the weeks, I picked Jay Howard. I saw the Andy had him, so I volunteered ironically to the aforementioned Jared cook that is shared cook. I know he's a top five tied in, but nobody feels like Jared cook a top five tight end. It was all on the back of that home opener. Nine for one hundred eighty at home. He's been utilized on the road the last two games, four receptions five or sessions, which is pretty good for a for a tight end, but didn't do much with it. Never hit fifty yards. But I believe that against Cleveland going back home to Oakland where last seen he was the. At least first three-quarter savior, the fans are going to cheer him on. I think they're going to need them. I think bakers able to move the ball. I am happy starting, Jared, cook this week, and that's not something that you can usually always say or want to say out loud. Yeah. Who's your tied in start of the week? I'm going looking at someone who should be he's available on forty percent of waiver wires according to ESPN. That's Tyler. I for. I just want in on this matchup. Yeah, and not the pieces aren't really available, you know, with Tyler Boyd, surely own AJ green. So how can you get in there? Tyler, I, for fifty plus point over under his target's share is growing every single week. The snap counts in the mid sixty percent. I'm interested in Tyler. I for. As a deeper play. All right, wide receiver. I'm gonna go with another deeper name, Antonio Calloway wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns facing an Oakland defense that has given up in their last match up four touchdowns giving up his correct to it has given up four touchdowns seventy two fantasy points given up to the wide receivers for the dolphins. Now I get it. Maybe it's a little funky because he had a couple of plays in there. Don't care four touchdowns as a lot and Callaway is going to be the primary outside option for Baker. I think that report is going to prove it self. Valuable this week, and I liked Calloway as a start of the week. I want to give you confidence to flex them in there. I'm gonna go with the manual. Sanders guy..

"So there things that you consistently go back through and it's something that you know when it's a big part of your job. You know, this is something that it's not like the first time that you go back through it again, are you know you say, okay, it occurs in his game and then you never go back through that play just the way that we naturally operate in Panshir your question though. I don't have a memory for anything other than that, but I wouldn't even say that's a memory because we constantly go through it. Right, right. You know, the one thing that happened in that raiders game was Jared cook, became impossible to cover Antonio gates is obviously on the San Diego team, talk about defending a tight end and maybe what you guys learned from the opener. Yeah, I think you know, Jared made a lot of great plays in that first game and broke some tackles, and you know it was something that. You give him credit for making those plays first and foremost, and then we learned from it. And I thought our guys played a really complete game last week, Arizona tight end and seals Jones who made who can make some plays and different things like that. And I thought we did a good job regulating him. But you know, Tonio gates is is a hall of fame caliber player. We have a lot of respect for him, but they've got great weapons across the board. You know, when you look at guys like Melvin Gordon as a running back in the versatility, I think Keenan Allen is one of the best receivers in this league that people don't give enough credit to. Obviously when you add in the fact that Williams and and Benjamin have we speed down the field and then they, they get Mike Williams off of injury. So there's a variety of different things that they can present and then you know not to mention the guy that makes it all go is is a is a hall of fame quarterback who's been doing it for a long time that can change his arm angle. It has a great feel for move moving and manipulating the pocket and in an ownership of their offense, getting them in and out of the right place. Sean McVay, the Rams coaches with his coach. I know you are a film nut. You get to work early and you look at game tape, and I know you've probably it's Wednesday. So you've probably already gone over the whole. Arizona game. It seems so dominant from fans perspective. Was there anything offense of -ly you didn't like in that game? Oh, yeah. I, I put us in some really bad spots with some of my run selections. We took some negative runs as a result of some bad play calls by me. I got us in some early down in distances that weren't really favorable where you're taking a negative foreign and negative to, and and those were mostly a result of just more of the play call than anything else and not putting our players in good spots. But I thought they settled in. I thought we were better situationally in the red zone and on third down, and you know, that's a tough defense, but you always want to try to be clean in the turnovers. You know, we ended up turning it over once. But in terms of just the overall run efficiency, you know, we had some tough runs down in the red zone, but I think early on in the game specifically those first couple of series. I really hurt our our, our football team's chances in our offense. Specifically, last thing for me coach, Jared, Goff has been, as you mentioned, had the one picky sorta checked down the far sideline at least far sideline for me. And, but other than that played, really mistake free. And I think it was a sixth, three hundred yard passing game of his career. Talk about his development? Yeah, he's getting better and better. And I think it's a result of his hard work..

"We sure did. He did so to you, you were disappointed. I thought that Amari Cooper looked explosively dynamic running around and I know fantasy people probably don't understand that. But I guess maybe John had Jared cook and his fantasy league, but. Car was that he was tentative at times. There were some throws. He didn't turn loose, you know, I almost felt like he was thinking through the offense as opposed to executing the offense. And maybe that will get better because it's a new offense. Gruden clearly was namrd with two things. He was Namen with empty sets and he was a numbered with Jared cook as the single receiver to the short side of the field on the backside of trips. Those are two things that really stood out on film, but Carr did not seem like he was comfortable. But I will say that it's funny. You mentioned Amari Cooper because I was watching the tape and I kept seeing Amari Cooper run routes, and boy did he looked quick by the way, Aaron Rodgers. First-half can't move the chain second half they obviously. I mean, he's planning on one leg day. Obviously they must've shorten routes, and that's what the announcers kept saying that Aaron sometimes I, it's almost like he's better out of scripted plays. What did you make of a second half? It's funny you say that because in. Second half because he couldn't move real well. He had to play more within rhythm because he couldn't move. So yes, they got the ball out a lot quicker. There was some throws where he did have time in the pocket, and and once that happened, I mean the touchdown. He's through to Geronimo Allison, the thirty nine yarder. He had a lot of time in the pocket that was a late in the down throw, and you couldn't have handed the ball to Alison any better than Aaron Rodgers. Their that was a big big time throw. But no, he had time in the pocket more so in the second half than they did in the first half, they just protected better. Let's go a Greg. Yours, give us a play of the week when you really break it down for our television audience audience. Specifically, let's go to that game. Winning that secret behind the game, winning pass to the bears over the middle. Okay. Let's start at right now calling and we'll take a look at the play because it was obviously a it was first of all, you can see time and he throws it to Cobb in the middle of the field. And Randall Cobb has plenty of room. To run for a long touchdown and just the kind of play that breaks the back of a defense. But this was a fascinating play because there you see Cobb in the slot to the trip side. So he's the number two receiver. There's Bryce Callahan. He's the slot corner. Notice he's outside of cob. That's Eddie Jackson, the safety. They're actually doubling Cobb on this play with Callahan and Jackson look at Callahan outside almost bracketing, look at Jackson staring right at Cobb. So what happens here is cobb's going to break inside. So what happens is the safety Jackson jumps him and Callahan drops off to help out. But this is really good. Bye bye. Rogers and Cobb because this is the adjustment you make when you get later in the down notice now that you have Jackson all the way to the other side of the field. Cobb stops, sees Rogers and breaks back inside away from Jackson and Rogers puts the ball right there. This was an adjusted throw. It was kind of a second reaction play Colin without the quarterback Rogers running around as we're used to seeing quarterbacks do, and you can really see it from this angle so so well, I can see the fact that Cobb is going to just break back a little bit to the inside, not a lot, but the ball placement. See, that's why ball placement is so critical because you have to be able to put it exactly where you want to. It also shows the bears had it pretty well defended initially..

"He's a guy. You don't need to panic on because of this matchup. And get used to it against the Rams. If you're if you're receivers are going against the Rams, this is going to be a theme. All all you're going to be very difficult to throw against that Rams defense as you just mentioned Mike. But Jared cook, we'll make the waiver. He didn't make the waiver wire call, and because if you have Greg Olsen talked about him mortal. Any Walker talk about him more later volumes certainly seemed to be in his favor, but I have a hard time and you have to believe in the Jared cook and Beal season long starter for anybody. I chaired cook drives me nuts. I mean, you guys know this like I've made any long standing. You know jokes about about Jared cook as well. He's, you know, I, I always was put facts about him in my hundred facts or different packs columns because he goes so long without touchdowns. He will good last night. I mean, I gotta eat eat some crow now it helps when you get twelve targets and I will say this. I think your point about putting on the waiver wire column field is is a smart one. He wouldn't. We're doing a waiver segment on the fantasy show on ESPN plus later. Of course, I'm a company man. And I have, I have Jared cook as my number two tight end after will. Of course. And so the next the if you look at the upcoming schedule, the next three games that the raiders play were top four in the NFL in terms of most fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends. So it's a really nice schedule coming up here for Jared cook. I don't believe in its talent, but I do believe there is there'll be some opportunity at least in the short going here, Mike. Yeah. By the way he didn't score a touchdown. In this game, he scored three touchdowns total. The pass threes and so yes, unbelie he's just not going to deliver in that department. He took advantage of an elite matchup here. This is probably going to be a defense or we're going to funnel two tight ends throughout the season, including maybe Ricky seals Jones this week. So I, I'm, you can pick them up off waivers if you want, but you know, you're taking a risk starting them the Rams have three good wide receivers borderline very good wide receivers and Brandin cooks, Cooper Cup, Robert woods laid my little Cooper couple year Cooper Cup. They played all butts to snaps less than it ever since. One is that correct? Mike sixty sixty three guys for cooks and Cup and woods. Final stat lines for them. Cooper Cup led the way for five fifty two with the touchdown, right? Brandin cooks at five or eighty seven and Robert woods three thirty seven. Do we think that we have a clear view as to how you need to stack these wide receivers up each week based on what we saw last night? I don't think anything changed like so much changes in week. One. Nothing changed for me with the Rams receivers right there all guys. You feel good about starting and Robert woods had the worst line right at three thirty seven to he saw some long bombs to. I mean, he just missed him for a couple of potential touchdowns and if he catches even one of them that line looks much better. So I'm starting all three guys. We know cups going to get work even being the slot guy, this guy, he it's a lot of work near the goal line scored a touchdown in this game as a playmaker woods got worked downfield. He'll see big volume. They all play every down. The Rams led the NFL three white sets last season. They probably will again this year with Sean McVay still running the show. So yeah, I like all three and he just agreement there. Matthew. I don't. I still I still wanna see some consistency from cooks which we haven't seen throughout his career. But if ever there was a guy that can get the most out of Brandin cooks, it's going to be Sean McVeigh. But at the moment, given how explosive this offense is..

"We're getting into the right guy, the unblock guy and with time to deal with them. Well, the raiders made plays, but eventually like any defense when you get tired, those same plays become gashes. And then he starts to slowly take over the game. But I thought at times Brandin cooks, built them out timely catches. I thought, Jared Goff spreading the ball around to each receiver kept the rep, kept the Rams are the raiders off balance. And then with those little change of tempo slowly started to wear them down, wear them out, and then the yard started the pile up in defense. Finally, woke up after that first drive inserted the play like a dominant defense getting off the field making big place that pick by John Johnson. The third in the end zone changed everything. I mean, the raiders actually had momentum until that play, and then it swung right back with that. Pick the one. We try to hit cook on the fair. A good play by by Johnson. Look, I've seen a lot of Jared cook, cook games. I think he's good. That's the best I've ever seen him play as far as being that dynamic in the air and that physical after the catch. I've never seen him truck. Anybody ever an absolutely just trucked to leap. DeMarco far joining us. He was on the sidelines last night's game in Oakland and did they basically just use the first half of that game as their preseason? Is that what it took to knock the rust off, girly look, different, Goth, look different, the entire offense. Look different in the second half as it just a matter of getting the rust off getting the timing down and that that's more we're gonna see a lot more. What looked like in the second half of the rest of the point forward off air Jay belong and I were talking about, you know, no matter how much preseason regular season we do. It's always a shock to see how how fast the game out, how how much it speeds up from pre regular season. So look that team to a man got better from quarter one to quarter four. I mean, they actually were getting better right before your eyes. So imagine what they're going to be next week. And if the keep improving next month and then two months from now. So they just kept getting better and better and better the, you know, the raiders had some matchups with cook and they kept going to it..

"And Jimmy, Graham Fakher leave talked about impasse years about how how Jared cook added element to this Packers offense. When he was here are tells Bennett during his brief stint with the backers sort of brought that the they would seem to have that again in Jimmy grand. That sort of that flex titan matchup piece in this offense of how much air Rogers seems always be more comfortable having that, that that piece of the offense in there. How much of a difference makers Jimmy Graham in a matchup like this. In my mind, Jimmy grams difference making will come in two ways. One will be as a backside receiver like what Jared cook was in those x. eyeso- lineups were alignments for him. That's a big deal. And that'll matter against you could chuckle plays a lot of zone coverage, so you're still gonna get Graham against a cornerback there. And I know grams of bigger, but I don't know if I love that matchup. The other thing I think Graham helps with is when plays breakdown or Green Bay goes into its play extension mode grand presents a big body. Now, what I'm curious to see about that is. Yeah, he'll grant had that in Seattle to for Russell Wilson, and I don't think and even those numbers actually were not a whole lot to similar in Seattle as they were in New Orleans, just watching the feel of the offense and Jimmy grams role within it. I think Graham was better when the saints which are highly structured off almost nothing ever breaks down in the saints system. So I think Graham skillset break is fine when things break down and it matches with Rogers, but his history suggests maybe it won't be. So I'm interested to see how it goes because because of the dichotomy, Jimmy Graham, do you anticipate? And I'm gonna ask you to to make a wild guess here Andy, and I'm sorry for that. The Packers are they, you know, they finally moved on from Dom Capers. He lives out of the ball. Do you anticipate something a little more structured, maybe some more man beater concepts with what they're doing on offense here after all these years of basically doing the same thing year in and year out? No, I don't. I don't. They might try to little bit here and there. Alternately though we say it all the time. Your offense becomes what your quarterback is. It takes to shape your quarterback and Rogers is more comfortable sorting things out after the snap than before the snap and man beaters are not necessarily conducive to that ice, oh, routes tend to be more conducive to that and not just ice, oh routes, but spread around. It's called spread formations. So the bears, it's a fine line for Mike McCarthy to walk and Joe Philbin back it offense coordinator. I'm sure they've had a lot of discussions about this. It'll be the bears. I think that game. You mentioned that that was a thanksgiving night game eighty nine hundred thousand night. Yeah, because they were tired, jurors. Z. that night or whatever. They get some kind of big Brett farve thing. The bears. If I recall, they played a lot of man coverage in that game. And there've been other times if they have done that because Green Bay does struggle so much against man to man, but the bears forte is zone and interesting. An interesting question that you would I'd love to ask a game plan or sometime is in week one. Are you more inclined to go with your forte rather than cater the game plan to your opponent? Even if it's a divisional opponent because you've just been months and months practicing your forte, all of training camp and I don't know the answer that I, if I had to guess I bet the bears will stick with their forte and being straight zone defense in this game. Interesting. Even with with the basically the same guys back from last year. Yeah, I don't know. That's. Yeah. Thought about adding that part in too. That's a little bit of the wild card is at Fangio doesn't have to acclimate a lot of guys. It's the same lineup basically. So, yeah, if they want to get more expand. They can. And now we're getting into the discussion of how do you get a player in rhythm? How do you get them comfortable? There's that's something coaches have to figure out in their game plan. And then within their game plan, I was watching film with Bill Sheridan earlier this all he's, he's now the Bill or the Boston College linebackers coach..

"My case Virk Hebron is that you know every year you have a number of titans that emerges streaming candidates undrafted guys that you can move into your lineup this this year, I e Brown in the same exact category as I would put Jared cook as I would put I'ma. Ricky seals Jones. The last year Geoffroy HUD eighty catches in Indianapolis arm. Strength is still a question for Andrew luck right now. Yes, we don't know whether he can drive the ball down the field and the athleticism, the ability to box guys out the stuff that e Brian is. Has been part of his repertoire. He's a fast guy. He's Nath let it guy and despite him being regularly trashed by the general public the last two years. I mean, he had five hundred seventy yards and seven hundred and eleven yards. And I just think that there's a ceiling here for the former first round pick that is pretty much what you saw in the last preseason opportunity where he had five or sections on five targets fifty four yards a touchdown. He can be that intermediate route guy that Andrew luck can lean on outside at t, y Hilton, a red zone, talent. Look, you're pretty much going to get. I think you're guaranteed to get five for fifty every week from Hebron. Wow. Whether or not you get, it's like a thousand yard season. My man, five or forty five. Okay. I mean, it's not fifty. It's just over that. I think you're going to get four, five or substance a week, and then you're going to be crossing your fingers for. So I think Eric Brown is an undrafted Jim. I would not feel I take them ahead of Doyle. Oil and I don't feel a lot of hesitation about him being a streaming candidate. I, I don't mind that there's a whole huge, Jack Doyle versus Eric e. Brun debate. Usually where I land on it is they're gonna eat into each other. And so I'm I'm, I'm off, but if I had to pick one a lot of people, man, they love their Jack Doyle. They look at the metrics of last year and they think, yeah, eighty receptions, he's still on the roster, but it's like think about what happened last year to get him his eighty receptions, he was the first and only read from a backup quarterback. And if you just take Jack dole and Eric Brown, there's no question who the better more talented football player is. To me, it is Eric e. brunt for sure. My point is if the eat into each other, whatever they're both worthless. If one of these guys emerges and becomes a regular go-to guy that is fantasy relevant on a weekend week out basis, I would put my chips on Eric Ibran, but I've been in there and I broke through through for a long, took their new head coach. They e. Bryan Inc. Right for a purpose to to build out this new offensive system? Yes. He's a rookie head coach, but he's got a track record. And Frank Reich can use the tide inefficiently and I don't think Jack Doyle fits the athletic profile for the type of tight end. He wants to use an pants kit, pass catching situation. So is he reliable yet? Jackdaws reliable. I'm not saying he's not too tight. End sets they're both going to be on their catching the ball, but the one that can make the biggest splash for fantasies, Eric Brown, and that's why he was a former first round, pick top ten even. I like it. All right. I guess word of my second undrafted Jim, this is a guy that I. I'm just trolling you now because I can. I can push button. You can't a little a little inside information here. I didn't. I didn't even know who it was. I just pushed the button anyway. I did not want to bring this name up. I genuinely selfishly, it was like, man, I don't want to bring. I have been trying to snake. This guy like my roster was of course too good. Of course. You loaded, I'm more listener league and so I actually dropped this guy a few days ago and he's still on the waivers. People haven't picked them up and I'm like, thinking just I need to get him back trying to make two for one trade. So I can sign him. Danny amendola is on almost every waiver wire out there. Danny amendola will be on very few waiver wires after week one. That's my my honest belief..

"And since he's got there really hasn't been a lot of positive headlines and a lot of it has been about how he's wanted to spin back the clock in professional football. We got another one of those headlines over the weekend raiders tight end, Jared cook. Join Michael Galkina Las Vegas review journal and was talking about how Gruden had brought out some old time film. Michael Balcon tweeted in the raiders tight end Jerry cook was born in nineteen eighty seven. Jon Gruden showing the team football film that is older. He said, quote, he's bringing out film from like nineteen seventy six. When you didn't even think they had film grainy film where you can barely see the players added some of the plays scheme originated there. So Jon Gruden trying to show the foundation of a lot of this and I get it. This is going to sound funny. This is gonna sound like more of Jon Gruden hugging titan to the old guard of football, not embracing what's going on now, but this is something I kind of pushed back on like this happens a lot more. Maybe this is just me living in the offense of line world, but I was in college back in two thousand and twelve. I a coach who is showing us seven to sixteen millimeter tape from the old Dallas Cowboys in the sixties and seventies which again was grainy but served a point. And it was one supplement amongst a much larger round of film just merely showcasing history, which is something that coaches, you're going to be hard pressed to find a coach, not a bit of a football historian. That's not going to appreciate some of these elements. And so we might let them breathe on that one because there's going to be a lot of pressure on Jon Gruden, but our own field gates ESPN NFL insider says, there's actually more pressure elsewhere in the raiders building. I think that maybe the person that type the most influence over, they actually caught a good quarterback, go a long way in the NFL. Air cars flare. He wasn't twenty sixteen this upcoming season. The raiders are going to be a force in the AFC west, Derek Carr, big step back last year, that whole team mean seeing the offensive line give as much pressure up. I remember that game against the Redskins. I believe it was Sunday night football during the season where that raiders lying got absolutely bullied in a way that I did not expect from that unit Amari Cooper with a bad case of the drops. And now you get Michael Crabtree who's out of town over in Baltimore was a free agent signing for them very interested that offense in a lot of ways seem to get older and slower. Jordy Nelson coming over from the Packer is going to be very interested to see how they integrate some of those concepts from the seventies, Jared cook is so worried about, I am. I asked my junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. No worries for Jalen Ramsey now you remember we were talking about Bill Barnwell are ESPN staff writers picks for.

"Does make you wonder a little bit about the progression we've seen from deir car or lack thereof this year in the sense that you know second third reads his ability to move the offense outside of these kind of scripted offense plays i i've been so back and forth on car this year like i at times i've expected more from him at times i've thought the of line was what he had last year but you know it's not easy in the nato jared cook greg olsen charles klay benoit's in those are some waiver wire options who's your favorite if you're making that playoff push right now in we talked with stashed whereas you have to pick of greg olsen i think that this is an absolute mandatory move it's it's still a few weeks away they play miami than there on the by week is it he can he's eligible to return after the by week jay my remembering that correctly uh i you know to be honest i don't remember off the top of my head which we can go back but i know it is very soon he should be practicing he's eligible after the by okay so he comes back jets saints minnesota so in on okay schedule buddies greg olsen cover benjamin is out of town i believe once olson's bank he's immediately the number one target where he'll be a topfive tight in when he's back you know so long as when he gets back he doesn't really aggravate that foot injury which you know is a concern but anyone can get injured while you're out there he'll be great the match up this week is great for tight ends for carolina but i at dixon had zero receptions last week every benjamin left so it's kind of interesting.
