Avs quiet about Nichushkin's absence after police report
"The Colorado avalanche did not comment Friday on either the status of forward valerian ASUS can, who has been away from the team for a few days, or on a police report about an incident at the team hotel in Seattle last weekend. Colorado coach Jared bednar again said Friday that niche skin is away from the team for personal reasons. This is not a professional decision. It's a personal decision rights out there. The other thing is, are you trying to hoist up three pointers because you're two, three pointers way if you're Murray away and he's one for 7 from three point line and doesn't make that. And it was a foregone conclusion. He's basically saying, yeah, I'm going to go break the all time record. Like you get out of your game a little bit. I think there's, I think there's part of that because he was one for three. I believe from three point land at halftime. Then he's zero for four in the second half. And bednar also revealed some new details that apparently this is not just one surgery that he's coming back from. He had a surgery last march before returning for all 20 postseason games. They had another surgery in October. But now, what we're finding out is that the two surgeries weren't related. So the surgery in March, then the surgery in October were not related. So, doctor schlereth, speculate for me. So are you telling me they're not on the same knee? No, they're on the same knee. But different surgeries. Interesting. Again, I keep going back to, I keep going back to what I, what I had told you, shoot this is about 6 weeks ago, we had this conversation about articular surface of the bone covering of your knee, and if you go in there and think I gave it, we're gonna calm it down. It's gonna be okay. It's almost like a bone bruise, and you go back in and you've worn off that articular surface, then you have to go in and have a microfracture surgery. It takes a long time. And that's one of those things having been through it. I probably had 6 microfracture surgeries on my left knee. And what ends up happening is, you know, you take one step forward and you're like, hey man, I feel pretty good today. And you go out and you press a little bit and then you're limping around for three days. And it's just a hard that microfracture surgery literally was like, there were more setbacks in that process than an ACL. Just because it's just not, it just takes time. So bottom line it for me. Just your gut feeling. I'm just asking you for a gut feeling, but you're well versed on this. You're kind of an expert on it. Just everything you're hearing. "I disagree. It was not what we expected either the result in the ABS losing or the way this thing played out. It was not up to anyone's expectation, including Jared Bednar's But a couple of things I want to bring up don't feed into the propaganda coming out of Vegas. And I heard Alex portray Angelo last night. After the game spouting this If you listen to the Vegas Golden Knights They are the United States and the avalanche to Russia in this series was Lake Placid. I mean that that's the way Vegas Because they got their tails kicked in Game one they automatically Got this this mentality that they are the prohibitive underdogs. That nobody believes in them. Everybody's doubting them, and it's a trope that is used. In sports all the time. And I don't Progressive them for using it for playing that card. It's a powerful card to play. To get the team to rally. Against a common foe. And this faux being the entire world. At least the hockey world. But that doesn't mean you have to buy into it. Colorado was a better team by one overtime loss. That was the difference between these two teams. One overtime loss. That one overtime loss that the Arabs had against Vegas made their season record against Vegas. 43 and one in Vegas was four and four. That was the difference. So the Avalanche did not lose two little sisters of the poor. This is not, uh, golden Stay over Dallas. This is not the Nuggets over the Sonics. This was in many people's minds. The two best teams, at least in the West. But maybe all of hockey going head to head and yes, they ask for much of this series. We're not up to the task. But again, I ask the question. What about that? Is on. Jared Bednar, other than he's the head coach, and he's responsible for everything. Right? I mean, if that's going to be the reason why he deserves to be fired than I can't argue. With that. Right. Because it would be a disappointing end to a season where we saw progress, but because of the quirks of the schedule They ended up playing in the second round, and now it looks like the avalanche are stagnating. And if you're calling for Jared Bernard to be fired, then I think it is the knee jerky ist of all knee jerk reaction. But But if you're set in your mind, and you think Jared Bednar needs to be gone, then I will bring up the easiest question to bring up. Contending that who's better? Who's better? Uh, let's talk about Jared Bednar, because I think that is the biggest question after last night's game is is whether A change needs to be made. In the, uh On the coaching side in order to get the AVS over this second round hump that they seem to be stuck at and and I get it. It's natural to wonder when you see a team underachieve. And either the AVS either underachieved because you thought they would win the series or they under achieved because of the way they lost the series, But either way There was a level of under achievement this year that I acknowledge and I think your mind immediately in sports goes to the head coach and whether that is the position that is, um Is the one that needs to be changed and look as the old saying goes, but it's so true, it's easier to fire the coach than the players, right? Wait. I just have this question and I'm not Trying to lead on this or anything like that. I'm legitimately just throwing out the question. And then I'll give you my thoughts on on the Subject. If you think that Jared Bednar should be gone, What did he do wrong in this series? I'm not saying he's blameless. Top down. Everyone's to blame here. Um, I will blame The Avalanche mascot. Travis Greene did not get the Avalanche job. He ended up in Vancouver. And you've seen how Vancouver seems to have squandered a pretty talented roster. So far in these last couple of years. Certainly this year. Gender. Bender comes in. And ever since he has pushed every right button. This is a team last year. That loss had more man games lost than any other decent team in the NHL. They were able to Keep up a high level of play. While having a revolving door of players because of all the injuries. This is a guy that has been nominated for the Jack Adams. Not today, by the way. "Rescue crews have had to pull 18 people from that river over the past month. Fox 30 one's Jim Hooley for K Away News Radio. The land spout tornado that tore through Weld County Monday is officially being rated as an EF one. The National Weather Service reports that Twister packed sustained winds up to 99 MPH County officials say two homes were destroyed. Three others damaged. Two businesses were also hit, including a feedlot and a dairy. The tornado was apparently on the ground for about a half an hour covering six miles. At the Miller Farms. Monday's Twister took out 300 Ft of a 500 ft field of peas. As the families surveyed the damage. They say not all was lost. This is just amazing that These were 10 ft, away from where the tornado was and We still have them in a Facebook video. How good did it feel to be back in front of your home fans in that rock his house and to get those two wins. Well, home ice was a big part of it for us in Game three and four. We've gradually increased our capacity throughout the season. Game three was the first that we've been at full capacity, so we were Over 18,000 Bulls Game three and Game four. But to that point, I mean, before Game three, Colorado ahead, won six straight playoff games and they had not lost in the post season this year, and they had barely even trailed. They had that lead as you point out in the third period. So what did your guys show you in the way they battled back in the third. Well, we needed. You know, I kept thinking to myself as the third period went on. When they took the lead. We needed somebody to make a play. We needed somebody to make a play. And of course, when you get You know deeper into the playoffs and you're playing really good teams. That's what you need is people to step up when, when needed, and Jonathan Marshall so was able to, uh, tie the game Forest. Game four was probably our most complete game and in that game, William Carlson's line, So when you look at the makeup of our team, we're in our fourth season. Nobody two or three weeks in the season One was the line of Riley Smith, William Karlsson and Jonathan March facilities. But they're on top of you and and they come to enjoy the game, and it's it's interesting. Will oftentimes get found from the visiting team and our fans enjoy those people. You know, they treat them well, which I don't think always happened when fans go on the road, but it's just really Really good energy in the building. And to Jerry. Better point you You couldn't talk to the guy beside you. It was It was that loud in there, and, uh, you know, again, we rode that and that gives our team energy as you'd expect. We're talking about Kelly McCrimmon. Of course, I want to ask you about Mark Stone. He was doing the first captain in team history. I know that That's not a decision. That was made lightly. And in fact, the team and had a lot of success without an official captain. So why was it important to give him the C and what kind of an impact have you noticed as a result? Well, we had gone without a captain the first three seasons and you know that was a little bit. Almost the identity of our team in the early stages was, you know, we had 23 captains players from all across The National Hockey League that were pushed the curve by the existing team that came Was something to prove, and and and it seemed to really be a good dynamic in a good way to have the leadership of those early teens forms. Derek England, obviously was Huge part of our leadership group in the three years that he played, and it was working. I think we could have easily continued that way. But sometimes when you've got a guy you feel is the obvious guy. I think that you need to To validate that person and mark is really grown in the role. We expected that he would. He's a player.
