"It's one of those games where you kind of need to have japan studio brain. I guess just like you. You already know how this is gonna go. Because you've played the previous two games by. I think that you can't like you have to. But he can't discount that when like when you're talking about like oh like the last guardian works for the reasons this game didn't yeah that's fair. That's i don't know i think that's all i got. The last thing i'll say is like Look i've been learning c. Plus plus and like writing a ray tracer trying to understand basics of video game design and this is meant that i've spent the last i don't want to reveal. How many months on weekends. Learning math. That i really probably should have learned in twelfth grade or probably should have been failed out of twelfth grade for not learning properly the first time around please listeners listeners. Know what helped me with vector math and understanding why we as humans need use so many different kinds of fucking triangle to understand circles and spheres. Please email us at sound. Only pod at gmail.com. I am exhausted. Gasping his voice sickness. Shit cows not byrne circle minus ray direction anyway That's all i have. Yeah i mean L. of also been watching. "Looking forward to it but yeah no deal is coming out later this year. I believe a stray coming in twenty twenty two not a ton to say about that except we finally got a little bit more game. Play of you jumping around as the cat. I love that you're jumping around. Is the cat and the cat scratches up the couch. Is he like a cat in pretty much every way possibly could. I thought this was an adorable slice. Of gameplay. And i i can understand why by the the cat hype. Continues to build for this game taylor. I don't know if you check out the full and apprentice showcase but was anything of those three or anything else from the show. Stand out for you or what they showed that it was. It's definitely stray. I wanted to see more of the cute cat with a backpack. It was i. I was telling this person updated how excited i was for the game. Also you play as a cat. And i'm not talking about like anthropomorphic cat links. The time supercell like you're playing is an actual cat who acts like a cat. You walk around as this cute little cat. It's it's adorable. I'm so excited. I will still patiently keep waiting for this up if they want to. Just slide the release date for next year my way like a firm one not just like an launch like a window be happy build up my hyperloop it more but i'm just excited to play. I enjoy games like this. Where i it seems like it will be monday. But it's far from it and i. I'm just excited to just play as a cat. You know because this is the closest thing that you can get to being an animal with not a whole lot of stress not worry about things like taxes and bills. So it's like this lobby to escape in that way unless you're playing attack simulator. Which i'm sure exists marquee. A you have a cornered. The market on simulators. I'm sure you can tell me if there's ever a tax simulator but that's just during your taxes there. Is this other cat. Jim that existed i. It was like pretty big and like indie ichijo where you just like run around the room and you just like you're swiping everything off the tables that so far is the best cat game. That's the game to beat. Know we'll see fucking. Let's make it happen the game whose name you can't remember the gain share care so high. Remember the games name and so good you just run around the room and you just swipe things you just hit everything off the table. That would so. I mean i know the audience and the audience knows what i'm talking about. And they know that's the game to be. That's what matters. Yeah i might not know but they based on and i have confidence. Stray might be able to live up to that game. That you all know the game that we're talking about that game we. We don't know that we don't blow but yeah very excited for that one etc for solar ash hoping to see more of that one soon but for now want to move on from there briefly on dimension For those who haven't seen it team sobe the astros playroom devs are teasing. Sort of their most ambitious game yet. They put up an official website. Now that they are an official team within playstation i due to the japan studio closures and restructurings that happened Obviously after play room was a huge success and so just wanted to mention. We'll be keeping an eye on on what they're up to following a. We don't quite know what it is yet. I hope and assume it's astros but i. I hope we actually get to see. This is smaller games from them. Like i don't need them to make a forty hour astros game. I want a cool new astro game from every couple of years. That's just fun and happy and delightful battles is still like the bellwether for like ingenuity with the dual sense as well so i'm fully exactly what that team can come up with especially now that there's a little more structure around what they are as a team within tony. Sort of probably imagine a little bit on the development side. They've got a little bit more support as the team. Now over there in japan But whatever they do next. We don't really have too much detail. But i love astros and now did. Up song second my ahead. i've just been thinking about a few minutes. I did want to move though briefly to just mentioned something that came up and of last week as well The he has five system. Update beta has been introduced in so. This is a bait update that not all players of playstation five have access to currently but it is new. Sorta system changes in its. These include the ability to add three d audio via your tv speakers. Rather than needing just headsets that have three d audio capabilities there is also of course Major ssd developments that. I want to get to in a second but also the ability to track your trophies and things have changed slightly. I've gotten to mess around a bit with the ui and thankfully The the beta version of it presents trophies as acilia changes this is a major one for trophy hunters like the things are now back in a easily accessible vertical list rather than a horizontal list and my god is that. Make a huge change. I don't know i. It sounds silly. At all. I when i was looking over the beta stuff i was just like oh thank god because i'm sorry i love playstation like i s. I play everything on playstation but my god the cards are awful. I hate them. And i need them gone and i guess like the tips ones are fine but the cards being in the trophies is it's just a mess having to go to your trophies and then by earned and then actually go into the. It's a mess. They need they need to back to how it was on. Ps four and it sounds like they're kind of moving back in that direction. Because i'm the same as you. I was doing ripped apart. The the amount of steps it takes to have to go and see what trophies you need it. It's just a nightmare and the fact that the game's going to the fact that it's going to have tracking on now is awesome so that way like my last ripped apart trophy was like get headshots with that one gun or whatever it was that one thank you remember. I know twenty utah trophy. You're talking to platinum the game. It was the one everyone did last. Because like sucked. No it was the war you. You absorb void repulsive yup yup. That's the one gotta. I hate it a trophy and i'm like i. I did the pirates stuff so many times. I'm not seeing when it's happening. You'll have to do it like ten times. I did it like probably a thousand. So it'd be nice to be able to see the tracking on that. I almost gave up. i was on. That was my last trophy. And i almost just like you know. What am i doing with my life. That'll make it a little bit easier to know that i'm wasting my life instead of just assume wasting my life. Yeah it's it's very specific and planned for time list abano. Yeah basically the way the tracking currently works for for some games. I've messing around with it. Is that essentially you can Sort of pin the five up to five trophies per game that you want to really be focusing on at a time you can switch those out at any point you can kind of surface those so that like when you are going to check on trophies. That stuff's what services i unlike the card system and whatnot so you know that if those are the trophies you want to be getting you can see those right away. The so far as much were navigable. It's it's better overall right now And even though it's just a change in how the ps four work. I'm pretty happy with it. But one of the major updates to this with the beta is the addition of Is it i. I don't know this is gonna just expose how how at i technology whether it's m two or m period to who's to say but to ssd support is his. I tell you. I appreciate that because in my head i was like i don't ever really say dot unless it's dot com and this is not a website euro- but you know i'm going to go with it anyway. Assist supporters being added via some software. Update four beta users currently so not everyone wide. But this is something that taylor. You've been tracking quite a bit. We've been having sort of coverage of like the best options currently You know for commercial. Ssd's that are supposed to be available but sort from your view of what is what has the opening of the ssd floodgates in like for playstation with functionality. Finally being added at least even beta.

"We should have that musically. The entire show is just so peaceful to like it number two on the rope report. We have follow ups to yesterday's herman's big adventure. Remember yesterday Herman win over on the playstation block or put up a giant interview over there talking about Got a war being delayed talking about trying to make come out this year. Talking about things. Going on at sony bend. We have a couple of updates from the different studios. We'll start with sony. Bend of course. Yesterday it was confirmed. Sony ben is working on a new. Ip sony been put out the following message Yesterday after kinda funny games daily we are beyond grateful for your support with days gone and are truly honored by the amount of passion. Our community has shared with us for our world and characters. Your enthusiasm motivates to continue to improve and create experiences. That will last a lifetime from the syphon filter series to resistance retribution Uncharted golden abyss yin. in days. Gone we are very excited to announce today that we are expanding the ben studio portfolio with a brand new ip. We hope you embark on this new journey with us. We can't wait to show you what we've been working on again that playstation blog cash blog cast interview. Herman talked about seventy taking the learnings. They're open world learnings of days gone and applying it to a new ip timothy. Getty's how does this hit you. You know. I think that it's really cool. What sony did yesterday and It's an example of kind of being part of the times in adapting and changing. And it's really kind of looking at the landscape where things are at and you know right before he three right before. Everyone else's competing. We already knew. Sony wasn't going to be a part of it last week for them to have this. Data play showoff horizon show. How dope that looks show that like. There's a reason to be a playstation fan. That's great and then for this kind of more like playstation blog type stuff but not just one blog post it being kind of like a lot of different updates across their their studios. I think is interesting where they gave a lot more information than we would have even got in a state of play more on a more human right. Which i think these these companies miss. Herman is a great talking head for playstation. And we've talked about this a million times on. I love you that. They don't have a phil. Spencer and that that hurts them that makes them look like the big corporation that they're just over there grinding and someone stories come out about suit. Japan studio closing about people Leaving companies because they're not allowed to do what they wanna do having her come out and talk about the fact that hey guess what isn't happening because of course the pandemic and we don't wanna burn our team out. Hey guess what horizon. They're trying but it might not happen because we're putting our teams health above anything else like that goes really far and then saying these things and then letting the companies actually respond about alps. It's awesome and i think that this is something we we've never really seen before in the industry. But it's something that we've we've wanted to see for a long time. It's just a transparency. Even just knowing what studios are working on. What what they're planning on working on where i'm guy number one. That wants a big surprise and wants to be like oh shit. It's got a war right. Nah i can't believe this announcement was made. Whatever but things like this were. Sony band is has been proving itself over the years right. We have a lot of sony studios that have been in this kind of like they've been around and then they move onto the next age of like okay. We're really proving ourselves and then hit that stage of like we're putting now horizon. We're putting out god of war twenty eighteen. We've graduated to this new naughty dog putting out like last of us right. Big change for the teams. I bend is in that stage where they can it. Sony been now means something so it's trick citing that they're working on a new ip because now when playstation has advance. We're gonna be watching it being like like when we're making predictions. It's going to be like days. Gone too. Good to be there like what sony ben doing. It's going to be will. Sony benz new. Ip be showed off. That's a much more fun conversation to have. And they're allowing us to have it. They're telling us that. That is the conversation because that is what's going down agree kicking off that right. Kevin if you wanna toss this one up for you team. A sobe was part of the thing they talked about yesterday. Hermit talk about expanding that of course when we talked about the dissolution of what japan suit really meant. It was forming around team. Sobe of course you know the astros player on people others a blog post up about it revealing their new logo but here's a couple of paragraphs from it following the release of astros play room on. Ps five team sobe has now spreading its wings and growing bigger. This is a very exciting time for the team. And we are very much looking forward to this next chapter. We wanna take this chance to thank all of you the playstation fans for your kind words of support over the years especially since astro made its big debut on the playstation five alongside. The dual sense wireless controller while we are growing and challenging..

"Speaking of the next generation, let's move onto some Sony news some reports coming out this week that Sony is apparently shifting its first party development, focus on the PlayStation five. So thought it might be a good time to take stock of who Sony's first party studios are and what we know or things that working on. They have a lot of them too. They do this comes from industry analyst, Daniel Ahmad who broke the news of pudgy coming to PS four and his quote is he's as in general, most of the focus for Sony. I party studios is on PS five right now, it is still early to talk about nexgen. But I imagine we'll hear some whispers come out of GD C, which is coming up late February that seems to start start signing on third parties and giving them a little bit of a heads up about what's coming down. The pike. The game developers conference would be a good place for to persona to be having meetings with game developers about developing for short Dyson, mid February. Even even sit around. So so clarify something for me real quick. If you can the this guy, he's an industry analyst, obviously with a pretty good track. Record does is him saying this stuff mean that he liked has heard. It knows it firsthand. Or is it him making predictions trying to like get a cent? We understood is he he's heard himself. Okay. From his sources, right, right. There's an honest sources, let's run down Sony studios here. It's first party studios. First of all this bend studio making days gone coming out very soon set March. What's more chicken? I don't think that studio has the bandwidth to be working on something else at the same time for PlayStation five. So the pride is working on wrapping up days gum, then those gorilla which horizons zero done. Yeah. Have to imagine they're working on a horizons. Yo Don two for PlayStation five. Horizon was a while ago. Right. Twenty sixteen I want to say like that's like if that affects games twenty years. Yeah. Rise in one desk. Yeah. It's pretty good. It's not a new job. I recycled that one but guerrilla made five kills own games. They they created this new IP with horizon. It was a big it was a big hit. Surely, they're making a sequel when it's so I'm not even horizons like biggest fan, but even I'm excited to see like, it's just such a the franchise in the fighting the dinette dynamic combat and just the scale of the combat can benefit. So clearly from like more powerful new hardware in a way that like, you know, I don't need to see like a call of duty or something or a halo running on like next like it'll be prettier. But like horizon feels like a game that they can really just go completely crazy with it. If they if they were sort of unshackled by the limitations of current generation hardware, but but even apart from technology. Horizon is a style of game that I'm really excited to see modernized. And that's a weird thing to say about a game. That's like fairly new, but I feel like horizons design, and it's kinda the way it pushed the player through the world became obsolete, very quickly in light of breath wild God of war. Your mainly breath wild. But I would love to see what a horizon game looks like in a post breath of the wild world, and what the lessons they learned from that. It's open world game design is very conventional and Riley old school, and where it really innovated and push the envelope was with its combat, which you know, deserves all the praise since. So hopefully, you know, the rest of how you explore that world and the way quests relate out and just the way that game works consider match up to the more forward. Facing third person com. Ed in it, I should clarify. Horizon came out like a month before the tennis, witch and breath awhile. So that would've been twenty seventeen not twenty sixteen. So then there's Japan studio, and they always have a lot that they're working on. I'm going to say, yes, they are working on something for pleasure five. They just they just did after about rescue mission. If Sony wants to continue PS PS VR going for Japan. I thought that was Japan's you made that game. Okay. They also did knack wanted to me laugh laugh, but I mean the next train..

"Your now lives inside your PS, four controller in a very adorable way. He's got have her feet. He's got hover feet and you take them him on a journey. Gender Ashra by you, take them on a journey throughout the worlds of Astra, bot done exceedingly charmingly. Grammatically correct. And the VR works well for the most part to hiccups because can't have all that positive without negative sandwich. When you move forward and Astro bot. The camera is is on a rail. Right. So you you have full control to look left and right up and down all around the space, but if follows Ashra bot, so if a three d platformer as you're mostly moving around progressing the level the camera will then move follow astronaut. But if you miss something behind you you're a little boned in terms of trying to backtrack. The camera will back back it up. But here's the thing that makes it a little better. I had the same issue because you're trying to find these eight little friend bots every level, and you can hear them kind of making a little noise. And so you gotta look around try to find that. They're all wearing like road worker has this. I think they're appropriate to the level. That's just on the computer. Yeah. They're unique. Oh, yeah. You're right. Because that one cliffhanger one they're all like, the flowers or something. So I would sometimes walk past and them realize like oh shit directional audio. And you can't you can't back up. So there were plenty of times where I was like all right. That check wasn't that bad. I would just jump off and die. And then it's not it's never never that bad. Just notice it one of the things you notice the other thing that alleviates a bit of it. It is full it is so you can just turn turn turn around and look behind you. Maybe they were finding that. If people went backwards, the they they they could vomit all over first time I was playing that game. And I moved forward on rails. I I had to grab my arm rest, then go boo you have no right analogs to camera control, and all those all had base. The other thing that sometimes. This is probably less of a thing. But I played it standing Dana. No he played at sitting down sitting down. They also show a picture of the person sitting down playing it when you're sitting up the camera. There were definitely points when I was like walking forward to look behind an object because he'll go behind stuff. And I was like, oh, this is where you're going to put the hidden guy. Of course behind the thing for the most part, they did not. But there were cases where I wanted to lean forward around. And I kind of wish I had a little bit more camera control. I never felt like I had to get my ass off the couch. But there were times read to lean forward definitely more than you're used to doing when you when you're sitting down playing again, but not to an extreme degree. And it was fun though. The whole game is very fun. I think it uses the space cleverly. I think when you're listening to the picnic slash Astro bots. You make use of the VR thing to really find them. Yes. And I only play the first world. So I don't know what happens after that. But you also get some need upgrades lonely. So here's the thing. I can't trust. Enough is that that first world is a really good job of like, hey, you'll get an idea of how this game controls and how we use VR and stuff, but every world and follows I feel like the risotto many moments where I was just like holy shit. How does this keep impressing me? How does this keep doing new things with controller like Jeff how you get finished the second world? Okay. All right. I can't trust. If you can keep going all the way up to the very end, even the last boss finish this just super duper clever uses of ER and a controller, and it seems the good USA seems like a good use of our and also finally and like good music jarring music, but good it's got that a polish that feels like, oh, this is this is not a. Like a Sony Japan studio. I don't remember specific name or something when you get the Sony dependent studio. Yeah. Yeah. Make more of this. It seems well done. I don't know the scope of it..

"So after about came out, I have played through the first world or so, but now and Bryan, you've played a little bit more a little bit more. Yeah, max v I played it. I put it fairly extensively at e-3 as much as you can do that, but and I did a few interviews about it and I feel like I get it not super into it. Got so for those who don't know astronaut at all. It is a platformer where you are the camera looking down at a little Asher about they were the little robots in the playroom VR thing that has been stuck on your station for since you got it. So you can move them around, you'll move your guy around trying to collect and rescue other astronauts, but you're the perspective. And so if you need to be able to see around that corner, you have to move him far enough in the world to get to see that corner or just physically move yourself to see. He will maybe need to jump around you and go behind you. They'll be things in the distance that you can maybe see, but you can get them around. It's sort of sneak. It's one of the most difficult things to describe her at my head on how you explain like a. VR platformer since I think I did lucky tale with Oculus some interview, and I was like, how do you like? 'cause you watch video of it? It's just a three platform. There's nothing interesting about it, but like how you control this thing is is fascinating. It sounds like this is one of the first games to really actually like to nail that Tomasz in that way because moss you're kinda like the cameras. Yes, yes, definitely. It's, it's, it's, it's a lot more fast paced, I would say, and moss sort of felt like looking at a bunch of topographical maps in watching a little mouse kind of, you know, poke around and find treasures and secrets that felt more rooted in like adventure games than this. That was more like, you know, levels unfurl, like a crash bandicoot level where it's like the boss starts here and then goes into screen. So it's almost like you're on rails within like a wide margin where you can move your head around. Yeah, yeah. Think think about like affectively being on this long roller coaster track that you can stop and look around on and and poke around and find secrets. Than such. And so if you got playroom which was affectively that like kind of elevator pitch of of PS VR demos and you tried one, there was an Astros game on there. It was basically, was it Sony? Is it a Japan studios? Yeah, we're saying like, hey, here's what a platform where could be like hypothetically using PlayStation VR and instead of using an easier to traditional mascots, they created this little caped crusader. He's something between like, I know an action figure in like a one of the Sony AIBA robot dogs totally Ibos little Ibos and he would run around a map and basically collect coins and then collect his friends who were like, kind of hiding out all over the place, fight enemies, stuff like that. And so this was kind of them being like, here's what something like this would look like. And I think a lot of people including us on this show were like, make a full version of that, you know, that's freaking awesome. Like please make that and eighteen months later somehow here we are with this thing that's like an eight to ten hour fully-fledged pile walk game. It's yeah, it's it's big. And so I've, I've, I put some time into it and I'm a huge pot forming fan here. Like for all things on genus. It's one of my favorite John Russo was has been, and a lot of people talk about that. Mario sixty four moment which I, you know, I really did describe the early moments with PS VR is being that wow, like holy crap here. Again, this is we're experiencing something like we'd never experienced it before. That's obviously worn off a little bit in the eighteen months since launch. But I think that there's a lot of that happening here and what's really cool about this game is like a great platformer. You can go start to finish and get to the end and feel like you accomplish something or you can really kinda stop. Take your time. There's no timer. Checkpoints are pretty liberal and they can kinda say like, oh, well, what do you think is over there?.

"I would really for the plane that service is going to bring, but what's the racing game the running game. That one? Yes, that's correct. Sprint vectors. The one I I would like to play well, their spring vector competitions these days totally work, but we're gonna keep the short. I wanna give a shout out to two games that are not on the Oculus platform or even on the steam platform to PS VR games launch recently. One that launched this week to rave reviews. We've been, we'll be playing, we'll be reviewing it in the future, but Astro bought rescue developed by Sony's. Japan studio just came out that any three and we did I did. Did you plant? I didn't play. I heard you don't tell us about it was very enjoyable like it. I wouldn't have thought it's gotten the reviews. It's gotten though because the reviews are stratospheric like people are talking about this being the Morial sixty. Four of the are I've played about an hour of it. I believe there are twenty five levels to this and five levels per world and just playing the first world. It is really fun. It was really delightful. Awesome. I can't wait to play it. The other games also VR been out for a couple of weeks now. It's a firewall zero hour is made by first contact undertake. They did raum extractor which was kind of like a a raw data style robots coming. At you wave base shooter. This is different in that it's like how to strike for VR. It's four before multi-player skirmishes diffused bomb plant the bomb kind of thing in real world locales with classes.
