'The War With Grandpa' showcases Robert De Niro in a light family comedy

"A I guess. An okay comedy that reminded me a little bit of home alone called the war with Grandpa. With Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken, UMA Thurman, Cheech Maren Jane Seymour Robbery goal. It's got kind of an All Star cast and the A young boy in the movie's name is Oak Figley. Everything is going great, but grandpa moves in with his daughter's family. And takes over the the little boy's room, something that no little boy would ever want toe happen where you lose your most prized possession in life. Your room. S o. He sets out to get get rid of Grandpa. I don't mean to kill him, but Teo get him to go someplace cells. So it becomes a war between the Little kid and Robert De Niro, the grandfather. And it's It's just okay. I mean, you know, it's it's harmless. It's not great. I almost wouldn't even call it good. But it's you know, a lighthearted comedy and you know these days, I guess, uh, will take any port in the storm. You know, kidding. It is that one is on ly in select theaters, so that one you will not be able to watch online.

"From Peter Gabriel who had his own recording place not far away that this sound in this one room this one empty ballroom was better than any sound anywhere in England it had four second reverberation. So any musician, any sound recorders become come in that room and go oh my gosh, never never never touched this don't put a competent here. Don't put any function don't you have no idea this. Some of a magic thing and it had a huge high ceiling but beneath that sailing or above it, Robert was this huge dome ceiling from hundreds of years earlier. So it had this. Sort of extraordinary sound and so I felt that it was right to share it with musicians and I also felt to me it was a place where. It. Had just I felt my best art came out as being there euros my best acting I made my I mean everything that was creative happened when I was there any creative person that came and stage with us? You know they just said Oh my goodness this place has it has something. Joan Barry used to sit at the end of the God and he said Jay here and I just you know it every all this music coming in my head I just composition composition he said you can't pass this place spices extraordinary. So It was very special place and I'm very glad to have had the experience I had. That makes me. So that makes me. So happy I I've looked at pictures of it online. There's an article in architectural digest about it and I was showing my wife because it is so smack Dab in the bulls eye of our aesthetic. And I looked it up and I guess you can I mean you know who Conrad's is? No. No, it's. It's owned by Russian now. Oh Gotcha Gotcha Gotcha Gotcha but. It was only rentable when I owned it. And that was a long time ago. You did an amazing job I, just have to I just have to to to bow in A. At what what you did with that place because it is, it is just storybook but. As we're kind of wrapping this out I definitely a the the reason that you're came on was to talk about Well, at least we mentioned more with GRANDPA, which is. The CAST is amazing by the way you and Robert Deniro Numa Thurman and Christopher Walken. Cheech. Marin I mean it's like it's it's an incredible cast. It's the most incredible cost of completely different people that you would never expect to have in the same except that of course, for Chris Wilken, End Robert Deniro you know this was they dated ready work together rather famously and and Chris Wilkinson I had done wedding crashes together. I had seen one another in Malibu and maybe playing golf when Suwa. I didn't know that she was lovely and it was just as light movie and I can be a huge hit. Everyone's loving it and I called Shit my grandchildren can do that tonight but I did it because the cost and then I read movie and that was it really works night the very funny and very cool and..

"So we were in a bad place was no reason to know that it's going to be a crash, but we put them both on the market. We somehow by some miracle sold both of them in the same week while. For you know the right price and then market crash off to it's so we it was again it was providence. It was just says, oh my goodness. I cried many tears about losing that house and I go back to England and I go back and visit all the time the the owners there I've never met. But they posted the provision in in selling house was that I was allowed to go visit my parents grave, which is in the front. Hand to the Church on the property is public property So you know and the neighbors is still the same neighbors and. I'm now very proud of the fact that I spent twenty five or twenty six years. Resuscitating at a house over a thousand years old spilt in nine, hundred, fifty, it is so stunning. I've ever seen. and. I brought it back from death literally was dying and crumbling I never used any anybody's public money or a national. You know it could have had all kinds of brands I all personally everything everything. Is All. Exactly. How you had to do it grade one listed all of that. I saved the engaged new dangerous Batson and I did everything the right way and you know what had household lost now for many many hundreds more years because the person who? Couldn't afford to put even more money into it and maintain his keep it in the style to which it should be a main. So I feel very good about it. I feel like I. I lost some because I I said, you don't take anything with you. You just take your memories in. So I have great memories and great pride in the time that end the things that I did for that beautiful house Valley. Well. Yeah. And also, you know there's this idea that it's not about the key. It's about having not about the keeping like you had an uber and you you saved it and you breathe life into it and you know we just kind of curate the things that we have. Anyway, you know for a brief period of time and so you did you, you were able to pass it on. You know I mean it is literally one of the most. Famous because of OK computer. Ask You about your radiohead recorded their most famous album. House at my house I know and s Club seventy two chill with that. No s seven with that. The two albums that. Twenty cash was playing there. John Buried compose was playing that. The Robbie Williams was there in pretended it was his house cribs. This very interesting things have happened in the WHO were you present when radiohead was recording? Did you stay in I? Wasn't I I rented you doubt suffice for them to stay and I knew that.

So many times that I've even written and published for about it cold remarkable changes turning life's challenges into opportunities in. The road ahead and things like that. So you know I. Keep passing on this little tiny piece of information on my keep meeting people who agree with me over done it themselves like Christopher Reeve at and. Well, and also you know it's These these types of situations where life kind of steps into reset your priorities in in your case, it was a near death experience and We talked a little bit about Christopher Reeve and in this case you know a pandemic. When you're young you just you know I mean I don't know when you were young I would imagine you. You probably thought Oh acting is the ultimate thing and you have this near death experience you got. To Go. Oh, maybe acting doesn't mean everything anymore. Maybe I can do it because I like to not because it's defines me or something that I have to do. Well, actually the interesting thing is I think people feel that what they do defines and I think where I've noticed a little bit different is I've never defined myself by. So. I. If I have to define myself, I would say I defined myself by having the energy and the. Dead to be creative being the thing that makes me happy the end of the day. So I feel I I, the major different somatic manage to create something or. Someone else had to do it that that makes me very happy and. It can be any genre toll it really it really doesn't matter. I understand boredom it just doesn't exist in my. In just. Go back. As always have enough time left in my life to do all the things that I'm interested in. and. Constantly growing learning. And I love to hear other people's opinions about things. I, really do not stuck in one opinion. You know tell me what do you think? Oh Really I. Don't say you're wrong. You're right I just see that's interesting. I'm interested genuinely interested and I think identity we all that way of think that you have to above take a stance is to who you are what you stand for and stick by. New Mash. or no matter what goes on in the world I think you things change consensus change on we we have to learn and grow with it and also land that we can change our minds..

"This is one of those songs on the album that people might turn to I w-. What's significant about it? Yeah. It's a very interesting thing because the guys in Radiohead the five guys that came of age in the punk era. We're prog rock with hated route. Where it was the enemy was dinosaur music. But without even realizing that they made a prog rock song. For people who don't know what that is what he's prog rock. It's a seventies art form. It's short for progressive rock and roll. It's very long songs with time signature shifts and complex the at a science fiction, basically for the most part and the song has all of that. But didn't even they didn't even realize that they were redoing Prague, they even used aled instrument. That's called a Mela Tron on that song. That's an analog synthesizer of the seventies. And it's just really amazing long complex thing. They said it was like happiness warm gun it meets Queen or the pixies or something. And it was the first single off the album, which was really a bold move because it's challenging songs. Very unreal. Friendly. That was the first card. They played really. Well, you mentioned Saint Catherine's court. This is very old and supposedly very haunted mansion in England where they recorded the album. That's actually a big part of this. Okay. Computer story too, isn't it? Yes. Yeah. It was owned by the actress Jane Seymour, and she was making Dr Quinn medicine woman at the time so too. So she couldn't always be out there in bath England. So she'd rented out out to bands. So the cure recorded there and with radio has they didn't want to be in the normal studio. They wanted to record in the way that the stones didn't seventies or we're Led Zeppelin. Did they live in a house and just twenty four seven they make music, and so it's super old house that they felt was haunted. They could hear ghosts chattering in their ears as they slept. They all told me sounds crazy. But they swore. It was true. And that's sort of that's sort of. That's sort of added all the layers of paranoia and fear. You hear on the album is they were literally in a place. They felt was haunted yet, and you can hear that in the album. I mean, whether or not that's the marathon tour, they went on or they place where they recorded it, or whatever something was going on that was very dark and deep inside the people who are making that album. Did they know that they had a hit right away? I don't think they saw it as a hit. Really? I think they were. So. Oh, wary of a hit single they were so wary creep did to them because for so many years they were seen as the creep band. So they didn't want a hit single. They want an album that worked as a piece in a lot of ways. And I think they knew special they told me they felt there is real magic there. But I don't think they realized they would be hailed as the best album of the decade. I think all the acclaim of it there. I remember we took them back and shock them twenty years later. Tom York has changed. He's grown up a lot. He is not the brooding twenty something that created. Okay, computer yet? He was telling me that he looks back upon that person as like some other person that he can barely relate to you know, he was so exhausted back then and so young and so overwhelmed, and now he's been able because of the success of the Ogden really slow down and take years between tours and his his words. He got a life firm self when he made the album, he had no life just always touring. So yeah, it was it was like a twenty eight year old person that was. Just at the end of his rope that made that album, you said those words slow down, man. Well that brings me to the last song on this album, which is the tourist in one of the key lyrics. There Heyman slowdown..
