2021 Golden Globe Nominations Announced

"Desperate dose of hollywood glamour. We've got you covered because the golden globe. Nominations just dropped. The ladies crashed this morning and the competition is intense. Let's start with best performance by an actress in a limited series or motion. Picture made for television. There's some really big names on here. Caitlyn jet nicole kidman. This is a hard one for me. This was a hard one for me because miss america was one of my favorite shows of the year cable on shed got on the screen every single time and it was like she was doing oscar worthy performance in every single episode with that being said everyone saw the undoing. Yeah once saw nicole. Kidman bringing that drama but us in the unorthodox i know given the emotional than gravitating. It's so i am. You're right and exact. Same way i feel. It's one of those. Like i would be happy with any of those one guy wanted more for one person and i want to be definitive with you guys but truthfully They love cate blanchett shocked. If kaitlyn does not win but at the same time the coal kidman is also loved it so good and she came back after a while and whatnot or wildlife. The big little i. She's been on a roll lately. But the hollywood foreign press loves ingenue. They knew they love when rachel processing. Shera my dad no come on. What's one just couldn't stop watching about the better show. That's a problem. Richard would have been a conversation. Okay i think as if if you go based on the performance of a really pushing you sheera was tough. That's a tough role to do. So i really wanna give it to her. You know but again. I won't be mad if nicole arcade take it too. I just think the co kidman gave us nicole kidman and big little lies and we were here for the drama. The rich family that goes through something hard and we got it again doing about it just seemed like more like the same character however when cable on announced that she was doing miss america. We were all like blanchette hundred. I have gone back to visit. Does that make you mad as a television out. No i'm fine with it. You could one. It's different day rappers. Upcoming stars people from london coming over. It's a giant pool does so it's fine all right. Well let's talk about this one best performance by an actress in television series trauma. Now we've got some familiar names that we see almost every year of coleman jody comber and my core and laura linney answer a in you know i just gotta go coleman i mean i just billing. They love her. They always lever. She's always good. She always sales it and I think is gonna probably get it again. So let me take anything. The crown anything and everybody on the crime i could be on the crown go. I don't know i was waiting okay. Well what about this fun. Category best performance by an actress and a television series musical or comedy. Let's see the list here. I love all these shows to let me. Just let you know something. Look jane levy. I love you. You were amazing. I'm sorry you're gonna be pushed aside because what we have here is we have catherine o'hara who is stepping into the game shits creek was one of the biggest winners at the emese. People started talking about it. People started benching all six seasons of this thing. And we have not seen catherine o'hara on our screens in such a long time. Then we got this this moment with crawl right. She was it was like she was in on the joke that she was a joke in her character was it just was the best show ever totally. You work so hard and so long and then you're in something and no one you know when it was over on Was a pop. Yeah when say we're about we're pop but it was all pop. No one really knew about it. I was a fan but it just blew up and then everyone got those awards every what was this is like no other people like i've been a fan. It's been on those levi's please.

"And it's just as a richer exploration of grief you know by using song and dance like that is so cool and peter is such a great scene partner. I mean he felt. I just had the paternal vibes from him. He's a great actor and he's a great person in. I felt like he cared about me. And those scenes were just yeah scenes. I think i'll never forget shooting Mary is. I mean a legend. And i just watched her in happy season and i was married. You're the funniest part of that movie. And also the fact that you can go from our show to that last night on earth thinly she can do anything and it's just also really inspiring to watch someone at her age. Be down to try something so new and vulnerable like dancing and singing on camera like that is radical and then lauren. I'm learning. I were friends before. Because of mae whitman we share a mutual best friend may play lawrence daughter on parenthood and I remember when we were shooting the pilot there was a different actress. Cast as joan and great actress wasn't quite right for the part. And i remember after we shot the pilot there was talks about her being recast and i was sitting at lunch with lauren and i was like. I think you should play the part. And she was like media. Now i play of mean boss and also lake. No and then i remember. She texted me that night and was like i'm just like thinking about like sliding across tasks doing a musical number and i was like awesome warren graham. And how you made it happen. But i did suggest it and then it was like can we get lauren graham like all and and anyway she ended up doing et which was like a wild treat on so many levels People adore her for good reason and she was so funny as joan like she really made that character it was written as like a scary mean boss and i think the way that she made that character on unhinged is so funny and like awkward and like how she wants to be friends and silly but like i think we talked about this on in our conversation right with fag. I think anyways And then yes. I was struggling last year. Because i was so tired. And like my sleep was all messed up been. My adrenal gland stopped working. And what are adrenal glands. I dunno. I just heard that those are some things that help you. But she would give me a lot of advice and she really was there for me. And i am attorney grateful and yeah i mean as people as actors. We all know how amazing they are. And then as people marry peter and lauren really lovely willing. I think part of the cool thing was the way that season ended with american pies to just see everyone come together. In what is technically. Gotta be just the most daunting thing to basically have a one like one continuous shot everybody's got to tribute their lines properly. I don't know how many takes you guys did. But it's worth whatever effort you know it. Just i think it's terrific. One of the best moments of yeah. It was really special. It wasn't actually a lot of takes mandate takes her job dame seriously and by the time that were shooting she's rehearsed that like every which way she has the down like this season. I'm like wow. We shoot musical number so fast. Because she's like so prepared. American pie was yeah so so cool down. Yeah yeah all right so here. We are at the last minute. I'm gonna just sort of do five rapid fire big picture. What comes to your mind season to obviously start rolling out earlier this month. You guys made it during the pandemic. From what i understand. Why do you think the show whether i think people even now are catching up particularly with season one or recently like during the pandemic. They have been catching up with it. Do you think there's something about people seeing it. During the pandemic that makes them respond to more than they otherwise would absolutely. Yeah i mean we had no idea when we were making this show season one about girl grieving that it was gonna come out When everybody was collectively grieving You know i think that also one. We need new content. I mean i do. I'm like i wash it all and then to we want. I think we want something that makes you feel uplifted or like i said before can make you laugh cry swoon. Dance like you know i. It's it's a it's a it's a show full of heart and being on so if season again without giving away plot in case there's people catching up season one basically was i don't know i guess about Dealing with the fear of something terrible happening season two. I think it would be fair to say from what we've seen is dealing with the aftermath of something happening How would you synopsis like compare and contrast the two experiences for for you. Yeah i mean. I don't i i don't think it's that much of a spoiler to say that You know the whole season is basically like a a warming up to say goodbye to someone you know and we say goodbye at the end of season one and season two is. How do we move forward after a great loss. Yup did you find one season easier harder. I mean i guess the experiences of is going to have to have been so different based on the pandemic now is a factor for you guys. I mean last year. I was so tired and like all i wanted was time to take a nap and this year. I'm like i've been home for so long. All i wanna do is go to work and distract yourself. You know. i feel like so goddamn lucky to have this job right now Many people are out of work. I so grateful to have a job but to it's like i just get to go do something with my brain all day long at the news and eat myself such pretty much all right so number three or five the other thing during the pandemic and we did talk about this before but i mean it's really kind of hard to stop thinking about. Is that obviously theater is gone for now. Hopefully you know it's gonna be a while but like in the meantime if you wanna see musical theater you're gonna get it from zoe's extraordinary playlists. Do you think that that's factored into this. Where i mean. Obviously there's a huge audience for this kind of stuff. Normally at a collective i mean broadway makes more money than all of the new york sports teams combined. Just that's one city in the country so there are many people who can't be in new york for theater and musical theater. Who craven and so i guess just that aspect of it that you guys are really the the thing that's keeping it alive innocence man. I haven't thought about it like that. I don't have anything to say. I i mean yeah that makes me feel honored and sad and i really hope i hope. I hope sooner rather than later you. So that's number four is that let's say broadway comes back a year from now or whatever it is hopefully sooner rather than later somebody calls you up now that they've seen you do zoe's attorney playlist..

"I was like it's not that big of a deal but then i went into my trailer and i cried so hard and i remember being like. It's not that big of a deal but then convincing myself that even though it was really hurtful and embarrassing and shameful and like all of like it just made me feel also like that's not a way to set up an environment where someone can be a great actor acting about vulnerable and knowing you have to know that you're safe and anyways they're using. You've heard a lot of things like that. Yeah i mean yes. I've had like and i. It's only recently that i've realized how bad it is. You know and it's just that it's just such a stupid way to behave. Because you want to make something good you know that idea of like harassing actresses. And so that they're good at horror. Films is like so insulting so juvenile and like so untrue. I think the way to make great stuff is to make people feel like protected and say well. I'm sorry to deal with all that wa hopefully people. Are you know the the thing that i guess. We're seeing in the broader society this week after whatever happened like a week in a day ago is the best. Deterrent of bad behaviors. May be a just call out in embarrassed people who do it and then so you know. It's loosening. I actually just tweeted this morning. I was listening to rene browns podcast and she talking about shame and she was talking about accountability. And like. I really liked what she was saying. Because we can shame people but that might actually not fix the pro- most likely that's not gonna fix anything you know. These people are already full of shame. when you act away. That's like abusive. it's probably because you're suffering shame but it is really important to hold ourselves and hold others accountable. You know like i. By the way. I've been so angry in my life at all. I wanna do like shame people but and done that I'm not saying. I listen to this podcast and this is who i am. I was listening to it. And i was like oh i wanna practice that because i do want the world to be better. I do want you know i. Don't you know. Cancel culture is flawed. I don't think that we should. It's i think it's important. And it's it is the result of like the the imbalance of power and the abuses have gone on for ever But i don't think that the end goal is to just cancel cancel. Cancel people's never exist anymore. Like i i would love it if people could take accountability like suffer consequences for actions but be able to like change and be better and have a second chance or whatever like so many phillips voices. Name is not necessarily for me to be lake. Burn philip but i do think it's important to and by the way when i tweeted. That warner brothers took it very seriously like people contacted me. And i don't want to press charges like i don't think he deserves to go to jail or never work again but i do think that he should be held accountable for saying something. That's so unprofessional. In my opinion Yeah you wouldn't go into your tax accountant's office and say something. Like i hope a navy. He would all right anyway. So it is pilot season twenty. Nineteen you are now. I guess open for work because what if was going to be a limited thing. And how do you first hear about this project that has becomes always extraordinary clueless. It's another experience where i read about it. I remember reading that the show was picked up. An paul was originally supposed to direct it. And i remember taking note of it and i actually want to search my emails because i think i might have written to my agents about it and then they just came to me in the end of january two thousand eighteen. Have we have an offer on a show that we think you'll probably like and straight up offer an offer addition or what straight up offer. I have just done. What if which is like a melodrama. And i was really excited about.

"Was awful But i'm proud of it. I mean it opened the at south by southwest people win. They're saying you know. How dare you have a female lead instead of the male character and they well came away really into it so that was the first one and then the same director. You're back with the three years later. Don't breathe esl. He called me two weeks before shooting was supposed to start or three weeks before suit. Shooting was supposed to start and said hey like i'm trying to make this movie. I can't find the lead actress and people loved. You need dead. I love your performance. Come to this again with me. And i was like okay and i got on a plane and went to budapest Movie three weeks later. And hopefully a little less Grueling experience yeah. I mean have you seen it i have not seen. Don't breathe. it's evil dead. Yeah well there's a there's a. There's a pretty terrible thing that happens in that movie but after go there we'll just now you've piqued my curiosity up to get into detail but like what you get your character. Maybe i mean. It's just like the every time i tell this story i'm like i can't believe this is my life. This was something that i said. Yes to I was hung up side down in a harness in a basement and almost and my pants are cut and then he attempts to inseminate me with a turkey based or full of semen. Jesus well did you know that was that was in the script when you sign up. Hey you know well. So i'm getting. We're getting a nod. Yes yes you know. I legacy listen i will have to. I will have to catch without when i guess okay. Talk my ninety something year. Old grandmother to see that movie but she loved it supposedly. We'll get back to you on that all right so all right. So that was twenty six twenty seventeen. We're making our way to the president but it's just interesting like even some of the things that that don't pan out for instance. There's a a believe he did a pilot for amazon with glenn close you and she are lake. The two stars called co and it didn't get picked up. Not only with glenn close. It was written by george saunders and directed by hero marai. And if you if people listening don't know george saunders he's like one of the greatest living authors arguably He has like the booker t. award. What's called yeah. Don't know masters knows literary awards. Not he wrote lincoln and the bardo that that was his first novel. Mostly writes short stories. Hero directs for atlanta and many music videos. And what's the movie he made with riana and yet the guava has to happen to break. Okay anyways it was invite the way. Not only way we're with glenn close glenn close ties virgin this. Or she's my aunt bernie and dies virgin at age sixty seventy whatever and crawls back from her grave. Because she's like fuck this i'm going to get laid. And she has these like eighty audit nieces and nephews. That live with her me. Jack weight and ray ray and i have babies and jack works as like a. He's sort of works at like a show. Where like it's hard to explain anyways. She comes crawling back from the dead to be like fuck you. Mother fuckers shape up and get me laid. And like there's a scene with a glenn. Close spitting her teeth and dirt on the floor screaming at actually. I'm gonna talk to jack tomorrow. And i was like i was going to do remember working with close like do you remember her as zombie screaming at us it was. It was like the coolest thing i've ever made and it didn't get picked up and nobody thought were you surprised. Didn't get picked up or did you think it was going to be a tough sell. Well supposedly. I hope this is true. And i'm just like making things up. But i think it was the most expensive half hour comedy amazon ever made and i think it might have been too weird to spend that much money on it but damn interesting though but would have would have probably precluded some of the other things. We're going to come to so you know the alternate history but the other thing that year was an episode of twin peaks which is has its own kind of cult following and Interesting group of people i would think. Yeah i'm a massive fan of the series of david lynch. I made the self tape. I made was when i was in budapest shooting. Don't breathe and all you're supposed to do like i guess. Either you go into the cast director new compensation with erin they film it or you take yourself talking so i just made a tape of myself talking about my favorite movies and i got a response. That was like they like you. There's a pin in you and then seven or eight months later. I got a phone call. When i was eating indian food and there were like. Do you wanna be on twin peaks. Tomorrow and i was like. Oh and they're like. Do you wanna be tomorrow. And i was like yeah. We can't guarantee you even have a line. And i was like i don't fucking would peaks one line life..

"I love acting so much and i'm eighteen years old. Why not try it. Know if i fail in two years. Four years five fine. I still go back to school. But like you know. Should i. At least try and i came home from the trip and i was like mom dad and dropping out of college and they were like at the conversation goes. Yeah and they're like what are you gonna do is dead and i was like i'm going to be an actress. And they like okay and you know. I don't think there's any part of them that thought that that was an actual possibility. Saw an eighteen year old kid who wants to be an actress. Many of those And i was like. I'm not gonna move to. La because is strategically i. I don't think that makes sense i. I'm going to go to new york. And i'm going to apply to acting school so so i flew out on the internet and found all the acting. Schools could and audition for all of them and i believe i got into most if not all of them and i am still adler and my time there. I just like everything. Inside of me. Opened up. And i was so so happy and like that depression that i had was gone and i was in new york city and i was like you know out in the world and i think the thing that i love the most about and the thing that like just really fills me up. Is the experience. Like just about experiencing joy heartbreaking. The extremes of life with other people like we were in movement class. We'd all have to dress in. Black teacher was very strict former ballet dancer and she make us get on the floor and roll around in berkeley dogs. Do shakespeare our doing and and it was just so fun to be in this group of lake like-minded freaks who were willing to feel things for lack of a better way to put this. I mean for people who don't know i mean. This place has great history brando marilyn monroe a lot of great people came through there. I think you were doing it in the evenings. Is that right like the evening So what do you do during the day. Then do you ever get a regular. you're waitressing like what are you. What do you do the rest of the time you know. I think the only reason. I did it during the evening is because i took six months off after i dropped out of college nandita at home and was trying to figure out which school i was going to go to and so i started my program in january in the only program at that school. That started in january with the evening conservatory. Guys all right away. Let's do that And it was designed for people who Have other careers or jobs. And you don't wanna go to acting school as well I actually got a job at the studio. And i would like stock the bathroom toilet paper for you. Those i guess you were only there. It's like a two year program what's the biggest takeaway as you look back now. Having seen what you actually use in the real world like what was the greatest value of having been there my biggest takeaway. Their one of their mottos is awareness without judgment which is very like then and it's about looking at things the way that they are and if you know how things are you can then play a character who has an actual just like opinion about things or a point of view but but before that you sort of just have to know things like you've just see things objectively and that was a really valuable piece of practice. I don't know that. I learned from sell adler also for me. It was just the love of the craft. Like i still go to class I now take class with a tony. Greco who teaches the method. The method is different than what i originally thought. But i am like so obsessed with acting and i think that there's never a like there's so much to learn forever and you know the other thing about going to sell out. We're going to discuss it. I go to any class that you go to. You really have to look at yourself. Then examine yourself before you're able to play other characters. And i think that's a really valuable thing to do. In order to be a good citizen or friend or girlfriend or you know or so age twenty. You're done there and you now have to kind of make a decision where you go with this. The fact that you then move to la basically suggests that it was not. You're not thinking. Let's see if i can primarily work in theater. You knew that you wanted to do screen acting. Yeah i okay. So i had a boyfriend at the time who wanted to move to california so the move was partially because he wanted to that so i was gonna follow him there but also yeah. I think instinctively. I've always thought of myself as more of a person that makes sense on screen than on stage. Okay i have this superpower where. I'm really photogenic like i do. I'm so much better looking on camera than i am. It's true i something about the camera. Just makes me pretty and i you know. I've often had people look at me and be like. Oh yeah.

"Direction don't have you're listening. You're director of really good and direction. No i mean like i as a kid. I just didn't want to be told what to do so in high school i was like confused and i was angry and i was like screwing off and i was having fun and i just. I don't know. I didn't have like a purpose but i was like i'm gonna. Although you know. People are many things and i would skip school but i also got good grades but i also was like hanging out with the bad kids but i was also capped another soccer team when i say this. I'm like i saw so annoying. But yeah i i also didn't get along with my drama teacher so david smith if you're listening you gave me a b. and i got an a. and every other class except for drama even though you cast me as dorothy and the wizard of oz. What was that about appears. David sure he has like a good reason. You know like maybe now is a jerk and he was trying to i. Yeah but you were. You weren't just like member of the team. You are good athlete right. That was part of something that even continued into college. Yes i i take everything that i do really seriously and i'm when i decided susan do something i commit to it like wall all the way so with sports. It's like the it's like the most like clear. Cut way to commit to something like exercise and like try to be a good team member and like it's funny. Because i am naturally competitive in a way that i think is probably like a healthy amount of competitive. I hope but like i never when i played soccer. I wasn't interested in winning. I was always interested in being the best that i could be and being the best teammate that i could be will so just to geographically scituate people at at this point when you're in high school you saw on the west coast right now you get into college very far away baltimore belief and go up there and it sounds like it was not a not a good fit. What have now. Okay so first of all i just want to say. I'm like massively impressed by you. An or like the research and the thought like this is an yet. So i didn't get into like any schools that i thought were like interesting. I didn't want to go to college i. When i was a junior in high school. I went to england for six months because like i said i was just searching for something that wasn't in school and i was always. I love express love experiences and i guess i was searching for some experience that was gonna make me feel like alive and i always felt like when i was doing what everyone else was doing like i was really bored and i just felt like dead and and i i think this is all sort of. Wow i love acting. It's like it's an experiential art form. So when i was graduating from high school i was seventeen and i was like. I don't even want to go. I don't know what i want to study. I don't like school. Can i take a year off and my parents were really like. You should go to college. Like what else are you going to do. And i was like you're right. I didn't get into any schools. I think it was waitlisted at sarah lawrence and then they let me in. And then i visited sarah lawrence and i was like. I don't know if this for me. And i just ended up going out your because they were like play on the soccer team here and it was something that i knew and it was something that i had been working hard on and so i went and i was a jock. I worked out twice a day. I hung out with all the jocks. Like truly like doing in the morning. And like sprinting. Up downstairs at night. And like i can do seventy five push ups in a minute and a half like crazy. Athlete person and i was massively depressed Actually went on it and depressants and and college became an insomniac. I was it. Was you know i was going through some personal stuff. Also but i just was like this makes me feel terrible. I don't even know why and maryland i just. I'm not connected to anything that i'm doing and that was when i that summer after my freshman year i planned trip to europe with a girlfriend because some of my friends had done that in high school or between high school and college and i was like they'll run on facebook. I'm gonna try that. So i went to europe and it sounds cheesy but i i do remember being on a train in journaling and being like what is it that i that that does make me happy because i had a really rough year my first year in college and i by the way i hope when i just said i wanted presence. I hope that didn't sound like it was a shameful thing again to present their wonderful tool actually in our last episode as well. Okay you're in good company a pop song. That's a love song. So i was in europe and i was like what is it that makes me happy and i like i said before there was always this like embarrassment or shame or like there was something about acting that i want. I like head for so many years. And i always knew that i could do it like i was like. If i really wanna do that thing i knew i can do it. look i mean i know i could. I just know. There's something in me. That i but i was embarrassed or shamed. I don't know maybe this is something i needed to bring up with my therapist but i and as i was reading my journal on the train from one country to another romantic cheesy. Whatever you wanna call this story. And i was like.

"To that conversation. James berg joining us on the podcast. Great to have you and always begin with just a few basics on this one if you can share a little bit about where you were born and raised and what your folks did for a living. I was born in santa monica california. I moves. I moved to the bay area though when i was an infant so i think i was six or nine months old when my parents moved to marin county which is across the golden gate bridge. My dad was a lawyer. he has since then Transferred to doing mediation work. He does mostly environmental in human rights law and my mother is a florist. She has a business with her sister. Her sister grows. The flowers is all homegrown in point. Reyes and my mom is the bouquet maker. she's the arranger and they have a farmer's market and west marin and yeah well awesome siblings. I have an older brother. He's three years older than me and he is also a lawyer and he lives in the east bay with his wife and his baby. So i if people are catching on there are few Strange parallels between un. Zoe which we will come to but just fun too fun to realize that so obviously curious to know when acting forget about professional acting just performing of one sort or another. I crossed the radar. I read that it may have started on. The toilet is off. Yeah i mean there are photographs of me as a very very very small child. Like i would say one years old I guess that's a bait. That's not a child. Where i'm you know you can't i can't describe to you. Exactly how posing on this podcast but you can see me right now like i've. I've always been a performer. Which is actually something. I'm realizing in my older age is something that i was embarrassed of when i was not as a kid i was. I was a kid. And so i just loved performing and and i wanted attention and i loved it and then when i was teenager a young adult i was kind of embarrassed by my need and desire and love for end of performing but when i was little i i knew that acting with something that i wanted to do and yes. I do one of my earliest memories. I was sitting on the toilet. Don't know what i was doing on. It could have been peeing pooping but also just sitting there. Because i was a child. And i remember calling my mom in the kitchen with the door open and i said mom. Can you get me an agent. Can we move to la. And can you me an agent. And i think she was just like what is she talking about. This is even no vote that you were like six. Probably maybe even four. I have three kindergarten and my mom just was like a kid talking nonsense. There's nobody in my family that is in the business. My mom was not a pushy mother in any way neither of my parents were. I don't know what the opposite of like a helicopter parent. They really let me have a lot of freedom and just be a kid and there was no part of them that was ever like trying to shape me to be an athlete or a doctor or an act they were like chill out gov So my mom didn't get an agent right right now. What was or is maybe. It's still going on yes theater. Oh my.

Don't know if you guys have seen that movie. It's very gross, and the last sequence in the movie takes place in blood rain, so they set up these towers full of red paint, and I just got paint poured on me for two weeks, and so the chance I have was actually functioning chainsaw, but it got jammed with so much paint that it's broken. Oh, you can't use it now. You can't use it. You should lead by a very angry review on Amazon about that chain to start does not work during blood rain, yeah. I would like to see it. "That was the longest pause in happy said confused history and I was like it's GonNa lean into it and see I've nowhere to go so scared to find out how at my gym my childhood has shaped me. I I don't know it's a lovely place. Yeah Yeah so. What years were you that? They're all through. Childhood basically skipped a grade. Second Grade Right I get it so smart and so I graduated high school when I was seventeen. I left when I was seventeen so I lived there from nine months old until I was seventeen. His family still there. My brother lives in Berkeley. My mom lives now in Tacoma County just a little bit above Moran and then my aunt lives in West Marin Ama- cousins San Francisco perfect. Yeah these are good places to visit definitely. Did you shoot? I saw shot a little shot a little bit in San Francisco which was so fun. It was very surreal. We shut down the streets of Long Beach. My mom came from Petaluma. My brother's office was like two doors down. My cousin is a professional ballet dancer in San Francisco so we hired him as one of the dancers in the help number then Mandy are choreographer needed more dancers so johnny. My cousin sent an email to his friends off. His friends were dancers. I had just been to my cousin's wedding. And then my my cousins friends were dancing behind me. And then my mom was like standing on a porch like down the street and like house and one of the most surreal experience. I was like Whoa. This is crazy awesome. Yeah it was so fun. There's been moments in my life where I really feel like. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be and that it's just too Qismat to be coincidence. Your so you feel that right now sitting in my office you you raised Jewish. I had about Mitzvah. I was going to ask you how to bomb. It's your birthday my mom's not Jewish. My Dad's Jewish. I do culturally force one hundred percent. My my dad's from here on my grandmother died last year. Hilde Levi. We miss her. She was one hundred and three. She lives in Manhattan until she died alone and this into her hundreds he was yeah. I had a grandmother like that. Yeah she lives. Altaf could easily. Yeah amazing so yeah culturally come here and all of my relatives Jewish may answer rabbi and we eat white fish and celebrate not the best part of our culture. I love fish. Fish love it. You like the Jelly and the Holly Road. I've got four daughters. I don't know where we got it from anyways. Poultry culturally definitely identify. I am not religious I had about Mitzvah but my speech in Marin county was like I don't know if I believe in God and everyone was like up in Jewish thing. She said was a woman and her husband played the Banjo over five minutes. I had like ankle bracelets. And you are definitely from Marin congratulations. Thank you so okay. So I guess when when I started to talk to you was when the feds Alvarez years kind of kicked in Post Burger Tori so evil dead by the way. I don't think we did talk. Probably in south by. But we're going to the premier for evil dead in south by and it's one of the top ten premieres I've ever been to come on really not true the energy more screaming it was right. That's not just my cheering. No it was a riot. Horror Films. Fun Yeah so I know you've talked about this. I was hearing you talk about this on another interview but I do. WanNa mention it because it really did. Strike me that evil dead beyond just being a super physical. Avi Sue anyone. That's a crazy kind of performance and film to be in was also a seventy five day shoot. Yes can you believe that? I couldn't believe that that's why. Bring it up blood. Rain sequence was two whole weeks and I was the only actor and it was night shoots outside in New Zealand in the winter. And it was me crawling around mud with gallons of paint pouring on me. So and that's like one of like six examples of things that no other fifteen. Sar rapist by a tree. Cut The tongue half BARF all over. Someone buried alive ripped off chainsaw. The devil to the face. I mean we can keep going come into a little bit late because I remember there was another actor at some point collins. She dropped out. I was told because she is smart. Because you treat them like wait a second exactly. Did it change you as an actor? Just like going. Through that kind of physical. And that's that's a strange kind of learned a lot about filmmaking and about myself. That was also my first starring role in a movie. It was only my second movie I've ever been on was twenty three I think. No It's twenty two. I was really young and after evil dead. I mean after don't breathe. I have sort of realized that it really does take a toll on your nervous system and I think I'm done I'm out. I know you're announcing your retirement from I've tried I did. Yeah and then I did. Don't breathe and then they didn't Castle Rock Castle. Rock was more. Yes different kind of Gerbil. Yes yeah let's take a logical. Yeah Word Yeah. I've been up for too many hours ago. She's having but yeah it's like it's I'm just not interested in living my life that way anymore to be happy and healthy. And he's like I did it you. Yes it's on film. Like what else do I need to get that job? Because I was going to say kind of surprised me that evil to never got the sequel. It never happened. I mean yeah I mean they keep making dead thing happened so that kind of probably made things a little confused. I've heard that they are doing a sequel. Yeah don't breathe is getting a sequel and sequel to so this is Stephen Doing. He's doing his thing. He's going to run around and torture some other people. Yes and you're fine with that hundred thousand percent. Do you feel so in stuff like post. Those films was it kind of. Did you feel like that's been difficult to find that stuff? That's been rewarded. I mean you're you know film wise. I feel like you've had great success in TV films up and down like any actors career finding material that's probably rewarding and also works. Were not yeah I mean. This business is so unpredictable and one of the things I like. The most about it is that things can change in an instant good or bad but things change in and said look we were talking about. Renee Zellweger we out of favor for decades and then suddenly best actress winners is back and the longer I work in this business the more I am adopting an attitude of. I really want to do work that I'm proud of. And of course when a project is presented to me I wanted to line up with my sensibility and my humor and my ethics and my curiosity and like what stories. I want to tell but it's not. It's it's hard to find things that match you perfectly so as long as it matches in a good enough where I just care about the actual work that I'm going to do. That's what I'm focusing on and the rest is actually not in my control whether I'm desirable or not or whatever those things are like I I. I've just been thinking less about that. Turning point where this kind of like this is sounds like you had a mindset shift whether it happened over one day or is like groped her age and also just like the actual. The thing is the truth is I love acting like I love acting so so so so so much I it's my greatest Imax Ville emotional even talking about a fucking love it so much so if I love it so much I after like honor that in me and like really. I think it's I think it's important work you know. It's so easy to shit on actors. I'm down to do that anytime including myself. You know there is a lot about it. That is just seems the ego coal. It's not a word definitely not ego super psychological for the records. Were I skipped a grade? Guys know? Maybe you should've kept going to the great you're right. I think it was second grade. I should have gone to where I would've learned the actual word that I was looking for. Stringer important message which is very it's just that. I think that it's a what I'm talking about before about the Oscars and how I think our job is to reflect humanity back to humanity and our job is to entertain and also but it's like at the root. It's like I just want to like show my heart you know and hopefully that means hopefully that that that again will will turn into the work that people connect with them. Yes connect with. That's what I want is for us to connect with one another and to just remember that this is a shared experience and so anyways back to the like movies. Tv's Blah Blah Blah. Whatever the farmers I I'm really not in control. Did you feel a connection in the room of your marvel audition to feel heard? This wasn't a career. I just remember somebody. I don't even remember what marvel movie it was but I yeah. Someone told me that it was a film Audition Television. One expert note. Yeah the door and she burned the room down the lady anyway but up to all the girls stuff we always used to talk about back girl man. I mean I literally have no idea. Was there ever like a real conversation about anything. There was sort of. Maybe a real conversation about something. Okay but you know again on in control of your control. Yeah I mean any I. I'm down. Let's talk about your twitter. Instagram fallon covered this the other day. But I was going to bring it up anyway because you really deliver good contents giant. Really important in twenty twenty. The acting connection stuff is nice and all but fuck it tweets. That's what I care about this morning. Eight Fried Chicken crying I did. I have a picture of a relatable ally what happens what was happening that morning. That was after wrapped what F. and I felt sad and I missed my friends and I cried. I bet you I could find the picture. Do only a few pictures. I wrote a horror film called People's children. Someone specific you had encountered I mean listen. It's all horrifying famous people. Solden I mean I thought you were just talking about. The world..

"Like half the answers to questions have been this like second sight kind of like what was going on in your brain observing like all of this which is very appropriate for. Zoe. I'm very neurotic. Is that what you're getting at? Yeah or more self-aware and Jesse Eisenberg should do a third together. Basically it's weird voicing the first couple of episodes that's far most of it. Is you in proximity to musicals? As opposed to you being the musical lur right well. That's part of it when you're asking how presented to me. It was presented to me the other people. We're going to be the musical earth. I know much that I would be at the center of your allowed. These numbers but I wouldn't be performing myself then after the pilot it was so much fun I was like. I want to partake so then we will start to yes. There's an episode towards the end and dance every single one amazing. Yeah Yeah even by the second episode. I believe it starts with a number which ends with a piano falling on you at Spoiler. Yeah again. That's that's the Jane Leaves Twist. That's that's why you were in like. Oh you'll drop I don't want me to. Yeah so is it odd. Was it at the start to do the numbers where you're like watching everybody else. Do the stuff participant. You're definitely doing fine. Really you know joyful and happy. Yeah that's not what production all supposed to be buried alive for a week. Now I know I know I know it's really i. It's like spectacular to be around that. Just jump around and sing and dance and you know you look around on the cruise smiling. Who's dancing and we have Mandy Moore? Choreographer is to blow. She's amazing and she's a real storyteller and the dancing is art of a and we also borrow art from musicians right and so the combination of what's happening in the moment like people ask me like how did you. How do you change your reactions like Song to song react? I'm watching basically yeah. Are there songs that are having around you that you're jealous that you don't get to perform yourself? Do you find yourself like I think there have been some more like hip-hopping numbers because you know miata hip hop squishing embarrassing. It's embarrassing because I'm not that good like it makes it sound like I'm some amazing hip hop dancer. I'm not been into hip hop music. That's the music that's going on in your head is that your. What's what's the jam going on right now as you as you bounce of wish. I had a musical brain inside more. Like all thought that don't do that. Are you being cooling up? Is everybody like you. Is Everything okay? Are you under attack? That's actually my brain and apparently in beautiful music playing in my head. I'm blanking. This is a bad story because I can't remember it but there's an amazing sketched that Willem Defoe once did for SNL. That was actually cut from SNL. It's one of my favorite short films they ever did and the joke of it is. He called the procedure. I highly recommend you look it up because it basically they implant. You're for your favorite song into your brain and you get to listen to that and it drives him insane. Timid Will Ferrell horrible sliding they cut it. I don't know it's honestly top five all time like shirts I've ever seen I love that You're surrounded by an amazing casts very exceptionally talented and also seemingly like if you're GonNa parents like movie or TV parents. I Understand Virgin and Peter Gallagher. I know I know. Did you watch the OC? Peter Really has the ability to make you feel like his dad whether you're playing his daughter or you're just another person onset like he is so comforting challenging kind of interesting role Berry and he his character suffering from a illness specifically to P which is a progressive supranuclear palsy. And our creator often winsborough Austin Wins Berg's father actually had this condition and he passed away from it crazy but the the conceit of the show allows him to live this other life. Which is kind of beautiful to see. Sort of this guy. That's kind of a tonic state. Kind of comes to life again. I think it's the core of our show. Is The relationship. Between Zoe and our dad. You shot the whole thing right you just so what are you at now because like you've just been probably a six month bunker. Living hundred percent haven't seen the sun. I'm here his in Vancouver on a sound stage. I was working twelve to six hours every single day and then on the weekends. I would just be like comatose under the covers. I feel like I'm reborn. Last week was just euphoria. But you were it. Sounds like you would Jimmy Lee among the your jobs. This is like top toner. Top One hundred. I had such a good time but it's grind. Your teeth schedule is crazy so now I'm out of prison. Just getting a terrible analogy the prison at all. I'm out of what you're out in the world wondering what look like. I get to have meals sitting down. I get to see the sun. I got to go on walks. I get a hang out with my boyfriend and I get to do press. Show that I'm really proud of. Are you okay with a significant other a boyfriends just spontaneously singing to you? Are you demanding this now in the wake of the show? Like I'm going to need you. Pull up the ZOE's extraordinary playlists. No you know the only I became. I became possessed by some of the songs because we would listen to them. So many times we've rehearsed and they play onset over and over again and I would inundate my dreams and there was a couple of times when I would shoot up out of bed because I was. I was a song was playing from the Child. I always wonder that I feel like I need to address this more often. I would think like an intense circumstance like that that your work would. I have worked related dreams all the time. I got so crazy really. I probably shouldn't share them. But they were like very scary and so intertwined with work eventually convinced. I was Zoe I was like. What's the difference is though there isn't if I'm living another human being sixteen hours a day for six months. I'm not Jane Anymore. Jeans Sixteen hours a day. You're zoe there's no off switch at six months in. Yeah I know I sound like a nutjob perfect You grew up in a part of the world that I love. Marin County Got Married in. "I was doing one of my gigs. For the Oscars was showing people like what the front runners were on this like six foot tall ballot on e. and I was wearing the tightest. Tuxedo I've ever worn and I had to bend. I was like Oh my God. There's a six percent chance. Rip Down Your Tisch. Basically didn't happen. Good so thank God for small favors. You spent some time in New York early on New York. Of course just reminding you in case you don't know where you are. What are your memories of coming here because this was like where you got your start at in terms like getting serious about acting right. Yes so I went to college in Baltimore Maryland and then I dropped out because I was like. I'm going to be an actor and mom and dad. I'm going to be an act. Was that did that. Catch THEM BY SURPRISE. You acted a bit as a kid. You've shown some tendencies. Yeah I actually do it surprise. I kinda surprised myself like I'm I'm proud of my clearly. I'm in therapy. I'm like I have to point out all the moments that I'm proud of myself therapy session where you don't have to pay me back at my younger self and I'm like okay. Good aren't you? You WanNa do that thing and you went after it so I moved to New York to go to Stella Adler lived in Murray Hill Murray Hill at one point strange plays older than like your crowd of that time and then the crowd maybe a little bit more conservative like Republican Zone at least a relative to the rest of New York City. You're probably like some pretty trashy barth tonic with like ten thousand flats screens and like. I remember waking up leaving. Just be like P. And like blood like flowing out of tonic into the drains of the federal yeah precursor to Evil Dead Pe- and Sorry Still Adler anyways to sell Adler had time in my life. New York City is so much fun to be a young wide eyed creative person cocoa. I got a MOCHA delicious. And we we asked if you wanted one okay. This is my third coffee of the day which is too many but talk so had it was still at work a rigorous kind of a program. I mean the name is important but no it wasn't rigorous and I went also to the evening program so I would go to school. I think four hours a night and I worked at the school restocking the toilet paper and doing some administrative work to a guest pay for my tuition but I love acting a lot and I love talking about the history of acting and I love plays and reading plays and document plays and so it was like. Oh Wow yeah and it was. I guess what I had been missing in my life up until then because this is my greatest passion and so I was like. Oh yeah this is doing what it feels like to be really turned on by something. Were you trying to get work while you were here or was it kind of like this? Is this study zone. And I'm going to give the year and then I transitioned like commercials. Or why weren't you like a dead body law and order at some point like New York actor? I didn't know what the normal route is was supposed to be. Although there obviously isn't known normal like actor route but I just was nineteen and twenty and in school. And I remember Wa- I don't pray. I'm not religious but I remember walking down the streets of Newark. Basically asking God to make me an actress award like and I I knew somewhere inside of me that it was possible. I was like I remember one time. One of the teachers said okay. Let's be real the likelihood of any working zero and I in my head. I was like you have a spirit. Inside was captain of the hip hop dance. Yeah we're you. Yes wasn't that think I'm insane? That actually is is basically correct It sounds like always whatever you you've been Taipei in that you've kind of like gone after whatever you were passionate about the time and very determined. Yeah yes they look you in relation on that so like those like family friends. Growing up would have said like from the start. You with a precocious kind of like strong spirit yes. I think that I was not a very happy kid and I feel much happier. Life is a lot better now as a thirty year old. I wonder what people would have said because I've asked my mom like my mom didn't know that I was. This was inside you that you know. I don't think she did. I had really supportive parents but whatever. I don't think anyone expected that I was going to be an actor. Basically can yeah. I can understand how that can make for like an unusual when you have something that you don't know you don't know what is inside of you but it wants to get out so that can manifest in different ways right and also. I think yes so you here for about a year. I was here for a year and a half. We had a showcase which a lot of theater schools do. And you do for Your Lake. Showcase was I wish I remembered. Oh my gosh. Two years of hard living of also remember like sobbing finding out what those the scene that they gave me. Because I was like I want like you're selecting your a monologue or something. That's probably why he blocked it out. John MacLean I you know they make a booklet of your photograph and your resume. Even though I had no resume and sent it out to various represent representatives and manager just saw my headshot which happened to be a very good headshot and called me in for a meeting and basically signed me on the spot of my head shot. Does that mean you had a very good headshots? Click in particular. They caught the light in the perfect way. So it's not like we can show it on the microphone but it was a really good like you knew at the time like. Oh this is the best version me. No I didn't know until after I got a manager just from a picture let's see. Oh my gosh she's wearing a Tiara in it and Elsa address before Elsa was even thing well anyway so he sent me on some auditions while I was in acting school and I ended up. Maybe told you this story. But I ended up booking a job within a month and it was the leading character in a independent movie wherein Melanie Alinsky was gonNA play my mom and you ended up getting to know Melanie later right and also melons the best ten years older than me wrong. I'd now maybe she was thirteen years old an unusual. Let's play my mom. I dropped out of it because I ended up getting shameless agents. Were like you should do shameless and I was like. I can't drop out of the project people with all the time. I was like okay anyway so then. I ended up working with working with Melanie two more times and I feel so lucky to be destined to work with Melania Lindsey. She's so and she's such a person who was the other major league is made together with great. I love that one. I don't feel at home in this world anymore. It had unfortunate title. That was the problem with that. I think it did win. Best Film I remember. I talked to Melania and Elijah at Sundance for that one. I really liked that movie me. So you and shameless. After you drop out like a diva already of your first project. Yes but then you get your real first project. You do a few episodes on shameless. Big Learning curve. It sounds like it was my first time on a film set first time seeing a camera. So it's all like the because I've heard the stories to the fore and I always boggles my mind when people are like. I didn't know what a mark was legit. Didn't you were idea? They're throwing these terms and they were so nice to me. What's good? Yeah all of them. The cast the producers the director. There were like go get him. Can you got this? It's fine yeah good job and I was like really did it feel like Like can you chart back to that and be like okay from there on? It was kind of relatively speaking smooth sailing. Like one thing led to another. Yeah I'm like why can't I go back to that time? Aspirations for low just kept me in front of a camera now you have the burden of like knowing what a great project is a mediocre projects standards right. Yeah basically yeah and much more complicated stuff throwing around the good stuff. Yeah we'll get there. We got time. Let's let Zoe. I know we'll we'll back because I really liked the show. Thank you I. It's it's such a bizarre concept that like maybe shouldn't work but it's very charming and sweet and just works so in a nutshell. I don't know what the elevator pitch on. This is probably a better than me but so we can hear other. People's thoughts form of musical numbers was presented to you. Is it presented to you as like that can absorb or the script? I actually can't remember which came first. Okay probably the blurb right. You're like all in. That sense. Sounds Weird enough for me I mean? Are you saying I'm weird? I think I've sensed that already. That's why you're you're Weirdos. Welcome here definitely weird But it had enough of off kilter something that appealed to you. There's something weird about it Musical theater background. I did musical theater as a child in school and in Community Theater mccrea mainly because I liked to act and there wasn't that was what was nonmusical yes productions being put up. Yeah desperate actor even then they'll take it. Yes but we're you in your twenties where you doing. Karaoke nights where you singing this. No no so. This is unusual. Jane yes they also audition you know. This is unusual jayme starving musical series song and dance and I can't find on the resume that year you're in cats. I can't find it. I did make a really bizarre musical in two thousand fourteen. That went to the Toronto Film Festival. I feel like I talked to you there. We definitely talked in Toronto. Did we talk about a musical in Toronto that I'm blanking on the worst? Oh my God it was. It's you don't have to. That's not a thing. Okay it became. I now am memory. We Toronto that's there. I made this really weird movie and it was a musical so there is tape of me singing so when the I don't know who told us into higher me I'm still asking him that question because I when we did. Someone just showed up when you're being polite on our first meeting. I was like do you know who I am. Do you have any idea like what I can do? It was very strange because they were offering me this huge job and I was like I feel like you don't know me though but again what that might say something like half the answers to questions have been this like second sight kind of like what was going on in your brain observing like all of this which is very appropriate for. Zoe. I'm very neurotic..

"Today on happy. Second Fused Jane Levy sings and dances her way through Zoe's extraordinary playlist. Hey guys I'm Josh Horowitz. Welcome to another edition of happy. Sad confused yes. Jane Levy First Time Guest on happy sad confused very pleased to say that's a Jane came by before the the madness ensued. So this is our last kind of normal episode of happy abused for at least at least a while. I'm safe to say that it will be a while before we all go back to normal. Despite what some people think despite what the leader of the country is saying no things are not going to be going back to normal in two weeks or a week. I can say that because I'm living in New York City which is in the middle of It's the epicenter as you. Well know of the madness right now and it's it's not a pleasant time for any of us and certainly a worrying time Which is all the more reason to have To value escapes like podcasts and entertainment and that brings me back to to Jane and her charming new series on NBC. Zoe's extraordinary playlist. So Jane Jane came by a few weeks back. This was well before the shit hit the fan. And she's Great Dane. Is Jane James? A big WEIRDO. I think she'll agree. She'll be flattered by that statement She's a kindred. Spirits always enjoyed to her over the years and this was our first chance to really talk in depth about her life and career. And when I saw this new show Zoe's extrordinary playlists which has been on for a few weeks on NBC. I was really charmed by. Its if you haven't seen it. It's I think it's pretty pipe fee. It's a it starts a great ensemble of musical Theater Actors. People like Mary. Steenburgen Peter Gallagher and scholar Aston and at the center of it. All is Jane Levy. Who Ironically hasn't really had that kind of a life and career musical theater. But it's a high concept show if you don't know it basically about a young woman who can suddenly hear people's thoughts through musical numbers. Sounds absurd. Sounds insane is and yet. It works this this upcoming episode. I haven't seen it yet. Actually but I've heard that this is a big fund showcase for Jane herself in that she gets to actually be doing a lot of the numbers herself because the by the nature of the conceit of the show is she's surrounded by these Performers doing these crazy amazing musical numbers. So it'll be a nice change of pace this coming weeks episode. The show airs on Sunday nights out on. Nbc At nine PM can catch again. This this week's episode coming up on March twenty ninth at nine pm. And as I said it's a it's a special one for Jane And as I said she's See someone always involved with and I really would. I'm thrilled that we got a chance to to meet up before the apocalypse game apocalypse. We're going make it through this guys. We're in this together. We are okay so a couple of other notes. This is our second podcast of the week. That's always nice to podcasts. In one week typically. We only do one going forward. You'RE GONNA get safe to say at least one happy. Say Confused New podcast a week. Maybe more I'm trying to figure out sort of what we're doing going forward a little bit. I've already started taping new episodes. Virtually obviously I'm not in the same room as my guests but we're also trying something new. I'm kind of changing the focus a little bit given the Times. We're living in right now. I think you guys are going to get I'm into it so far And we'll see you as many as many of these as as I have time for my other work stuff is starting to rev up so which is good. You'RE GONNA start to see me do stuff for comedy central and MTV again. We're kind of all figuring out how to produce content in this new and scape Took took took us a beat. It's GonNa take us a minute but you think you're GonNa see me very soon To some some some fun stuff that will hopefully Entertain you and as I said as the podcast don't wear the podcast is going to keep going. You're going to see at least one new episode every week going forward. That's my semi promise to you. You know we'll see that's what I'm shooting for at least anyway. Hope you guys enjoy this chat with Jane once again. So he's extrordinary. Playlist is on NBC. Sunday nights at nine PM. I highly recommend it and as always remember review rate and subscribe to happy sad confused now more than ever spread the good word. People need a little bit of an escape. And hopefully that's what this podcast is for you. I hope you enjoy this chat with Jane. See You it's nice to see you to welcome into my little office. Thank you you were just saying. You feel like you're getting an. We talked a couple of times but never at length. Yeah and now you've seen the inside of my brain. Thanks to my office its own. You agree with it. Yeah you have movies. I hope I do of movies. Yeah did you grow up loving movies? Weirdly I mean it's not like I grew up. Not You're anti movie IOS. Don't show her movie. I have not anti movie but I just didn't like I didn't go to the movies all the time we didn't have like a huge collection of VHS tapes. My House we had like ten that I watched over and over and over again. What were the courtroom core five? Give me some. Harriet this by the Classic Trachtenberg. What's her was it? Just ten copies of Harrods. Sorry Ventura when nature calls the sequel. Yes we only have the sequel. Yep on my God go. That's really funny. Good okay to keeping him theme with your lesser sequels. Right the royal tannenbaums okay. This is very straight joke. Yeah Robin Hood Robertson. Okay cartoon Talks Yup Yup selected this menagerie this insanity. Somehow we ended up with these folks like whether we rented them and give them back or someone gave them as a gift or my parents. Pick them out or I'd vote them out. I have no idea there was more but those are the ones I remember watching a lot. I loved Harriet spy after work. I've ever seen her. The spun bit older than the use of probably a kidney at the right time right. I mean it was weird if I was like high despite his twenty five year old man. All right very weird. It was like a like a tough young girl detective and I was like. Yeah Yeah your your your as people know. You're an actress and your detective. Yeah that's your side Gig right. Did you watch the Oscars I did? Do you enjoy the now. The Palm of the circumstance the silliness. I mean okay. Let's get into it. Obviously giving awards for art is the most important thing in the world. It doesn't make any sense completely arbitrary. Like how can you compare a scorsese movie to parasite right not to mention to give the most already benefited human beings on the planet? One More accolade right people like you know what I think is amazing. That acting like actors are really good audience members like associate and they think it's like reading a good novel. You're like oh I'm not alone. That that reminds me of this and we are all same humanity. Wow and so I think in some ways humans like project a lot onto movie stars and so then they can like have this experience with the movie stars in a way that I think is fine. Like it's like like like yes. It's it's a bunch of mostly white people patting themselves on the back for room making millions and billions billions of dollars shirt. But at the same time it's like it's like human connection. It's seeing yourself in the prettiest versions of ourselves. I guess taking it too seriously any direction or doesn't make sense and so I watch it because I'm like I do want to see the fashions and like I do like these movies. And it's so weird to think that one will win over the other like I. Just don't get into that. I long as someone who grew up with all the stuff and watch the Oscars. Since I was like a baby like I long ago gave up like any illusion of the best one when the only one that I even like winning. It's for me. It's fun to see and back in the day like it was fun to see like the old guard and like the Nicholson's and all that and now it's fun to see like Brad Pitt. Now is like the old guard. What happened rates kind of like a marker of like how old we are old I am now and I like all the history stuff me too. Yeah so I given. So what your Buddy Rene one yeah That's cool. Yeah I mean by the time yes that. She just wrapped in London when we started shooting. What if I think she was even late to? What if we can half because she was still finishing? She's a really really really good actor. Cordell Globes right. Would you enjoyed that side of it again? The carpet and presenting on that or no so. I actually got ready for the Golden Globes and walked on the carpet for a half hour and then went to the hotel and wash my face. Got on a plane went to Vancouver and worked at eight o'clock in the morning on the show. Yes yes so. I didn't actually get to sit through the show which would have been fun but I had to go back to work. So do I like that part of it. Honestly yes and no I have moments where I'm on the red carpet and I'm like actually at the Golden Globes. This is a little bit like vulnerable to admit but I was like you're standing here because your hard work and it felt like I felt good about that whether or not I mean it's not like I'm just like seeing all these amazing artists and being like that person because I worked really hard and that is a sneak in the back they actually let me in front with Meyer but that also makes me go into barbeque. I like an. I don't wear and like this. Business is a lot about like ego and power and like blatantly and like no matter how much we try to pretend. It's not like that part of it hurts me. I'm sure it hurts. Everybody like I'm sensitive but So so yes I I also get like insecure when I dress up and I'm like this feels so weird like the whole point is that I have to pretty and that's not really why I'm an actor and what what is it. What if they like that part of it makes me uncomfortable but then at the same time? I like to think of some events where you're doing. Press as celebration of the thing that you made that you worked really hard. M. Like Zoe's I am like so proud of it and I'm so proud of all of us that I'm just like great. I get to go talk about this thing that I'm really proud of totally while sometimes feeling uncomfortable wearing address. It doesn't feel like it's sort of. Yeah Yeah I feel like I had a tiny glimpse into what it's like for that address so uncomfortably in those insane situations..

"Ray in west caldwell you're on the fan ray hey rich how are ya ray fellow golden retriever lover but joe da called before and the world series mvp being named for willie mays s i just feel it the mvp is emblematic of the success of that individual during that world series and the history of the world series not come comes close to mickey in five offensive categories i just think torii decision i don't really know why it was just his decision it was an online is willie because god bless and we still have them but i mean when you just look at home runs runs scored extra base hits total bases his hands down it's mantle and i just think if they're were going to name an individual for the end the p for the world series it should have been mickey well the point is you certainly have a point because i mean if you look at overall career you probably go maze although jane levy wrote a terrific book about mickey mantle and using advanced statistics she makes the case that mantle was a better player than maize yeah i mean if you're looking at just success in the world series you'd have to give the nod to mickey and maybe willie mays gets some other regular season or playoff honor named after him but i don't know i don't know why joe did what he did maybe we'll ask him next time we talk to andy and forest hills you're on the fan and be hey andy comment about the foot injury issue and that some of the guys just don't seem to the strong enough our top tough enough because about a dozen years ago my son sustained a significant foot injury playing basketball he went to the best surgeons including the surgeon that's going to be treating greg bird long story short reoccurring problems have plagued him to the point where even walking could be difficult and this is like twelve years later with some of the best medical intervention just imagine the stress on foot with those types of injuries when you step up to the plate the folks just don't fully appreciate the significance of the.
