"But every other picture you see is stetson Bennett. Is typically as a small kid holding hands with his father that's been in the third and where are they? They're between the hedges. They're in Athens, Georgia. They're watching the Georgia bulldogs. When they moved to pierce county, they immediately started meeting with coaches to talk about what can I do to be a better quarterback because one day I want to play quarterback for the Georgia bulldogs. Isn't a third grade. I mean, this was already the plan from the time that he could walk. So the dream was to play football at Georgia. And to be the starting quarterback at Georgia, and he only received one offer out of college, although he was middle Tennessee state. And that wasn't good enough for him. So he went to Athens, and he walked on to the football team, and he did it because it's the theme of his life. He was going to force his dream on everyone, even when they told him that that dream was ridiculous. So paint the picture for me, McGee, of stetson Bennett, showing up in Athens on campus, the guy who would one day deliver Georgia to a national title, and yeah, maybe another one on Monday. He's invisible. He certainly invisible when it comes to the football team. And when it's in the football building. Now, on campus not invisible, anyone who has spent any time in Athens knows, that is a town that rewards swagger. And that kid never lacked for swagger. And as practices went on and as he and folks have seen Rudy and don't really understand the life of a walk on and being on the scout team, you know, say what you want about the accuracy of Rudy, but that Montage of Rudy and those guys on the scout team getting their brains beat in every day in practice. That's exactly how it is. And you are learning the playbook of the opponent and you are running the playbook of the opponent. Right. Your cosplaying as the other quarterback. A 100%. And so as stetson Bennett starts to move into a leadership role with the scout team, lo and behold, the university of Georgia goes to the rose bowl and they go to stenson Ben and they say we need you to be Baker Mayfield. And when you talk to guys like roquan Smith, Lorenzo Carter, you know, they will tell you that he prepared them for Baker Mayfield better than Baker Mayfield prepared them for brick and Mayfield. So they knew smart and they knew he might be good. But unfortunately for him, being a stud on the scout team, while the first team has a handful of 5 stars stacked up a quarterback, you're still not going to play. Oh, yeah, give us the depth chart here, and what does that depth chart ultimately lead stetson Bennett, therefore, to do? Well, you're talking about Jake fromm. You're talking about Jamie Newman, who had just transferred in from wake forest. You're talking about Justin Fields. You know, who obviously went on to be a Heisman Trophy finalist at Ohio State. JT Daniels has transferred in after being the starter at USC and so he surrounded by all of these great coaches and enforcement surrounded by all of these great quarterbacks and was told. Listen, you're great. But you're probably not going to play. You certainly are not going to get a scholarship. And so he packed up and transferred out. Where does this kid who wanted to be a Georgia bulldog his whole life? Wind up. Jones college. In ellisville, Mississippi.

"First of all, my great to have you back for yet another year. And I want to begin with something that happened here yesterday that I have that I've heard is rather big on your site. Elle Duncan talking about stetson Bennett. That's a big topic. I know you got into it earlier this week. Tell us what you know. Yeah, I mean, obviously, Elle Duncan is a passionate Georgia fan and this is the time of year when fans are a little, they're a little hyped up. They're a little nervous as Elle said. And she's nervous about stetson Bennett. And I understand that. I think the truth be known, I think the coach is probably wonder a little bit how stetson's going to perform. That's natural. It's the first scheme of the year. There's a lot of newness. Obviously, Dan lanning does have familiarity with the Georgia offense. I don't know if he has the personnel to stop Georgia, but he certainly will know how to make stetson uncomfortable, containing him, forcing him to throw it from within the pocket, forcing him to throw outside the numbers downfield. Now, easier said than done, Paul, we can X and O all day, but at the bottom line is, does organ have the personnel to match up? And I'm not convinced that they do, but back to Elle's point, you know, listen, every quarterback is a lightning rod for criticism. I remember a couple years ago, Georgia, you know, had this winning quarterback that I thought was picture perfect off the field and Jake prom, and yet, you know, there were a lot of people that came after Jake. They always talk about what the quarterbacks can't do. And to be fair, there are some things that stetson has not shown that he can do yet. Now he's worked on those things, but has he improved enough to take over games when George's in passing situations. Last year, the answer was no. We saw that in the SEC championship game. He faltered. And someone pointed out to me that the difference between the SEC championship game and the national championship game was that the defense darn near pitch to shutout. Now, I think stetson invented is won the trust of the coaches. He's athletic. I think he's crafty. He's got a strong enough arm to go deep, but as for those throws in the pocket and the decision making, that's what has to improve in my opinion for Georgia to repeat as national champions. I think that when the east, regardless, I think Georgia has a lot of talent and I think stetson does enough to win games as Greg McIlroy and Jordan Rogers said. I mean, all the guys done is win with the exception of a couple of times, but what happens when he gets pushed? And I think that's where Al Duncan and some of the fan base probably still has some concerns. I know you've dug deep into the story and I don't think a lot of people outside of maybe a small section know or understand how he ended up staying at George a lot of us thought good time to leave Disney Disney ending, but that's not exactly what happened, is it? No, you know, there's a lot to this debts and story and it's a story of resilience. As I've said, nobody needs to make any revisionist history or try to put lipstick on a pig here. I mean, this is a guy who left after his first season in which a junior college in Mississippi because he wanted to play. He actually said he woke up on signing day in 2019 thinking he was going to play for Billy Napier at Louisiana and then George made the offer and he came back to Georgie to back up Jake prom in 2019. In 2020, it took the wake forest transfer Jamie Newman leaving the program, Georgia fans, a chill and a shutter just went through all of them. The guy that came here and left before he played a game, JT Daniels me wasn't cleared yet. And then duan math is the starter who's now a temple faltered in the opening quarter. I mean, it took three guys to default before stetson Bennett got his chance in 2020 and he did a good job. He brought him from behind his Arkansas, gets injured, gives way to JT. He's almost the forgotten man in spring of 2021. I think he threw four passes in the spring game and he met with Kirby smart over the summer. And he said, look, I need to know him. Am I going to have a chance to compete this fall? Kirby said, yeah, yeah, you're going to have a chance. He goes into fall last year, and the number three quarterback, the week that JT doesn't play, Kirby says Carson becks, the number two. But then Beck has a bad practice. So on a hunch, Kirby starts stetson Bennett against UAB and he throws 5 touchdown passes in the first half, right? The music plays, he wins the title, right? Day after the national championship game, Good Morning America, more than tired stetson Bennett says I'm playing football next year, but he doesn't say where he says I need to see if I can trust these coaches. And look, this is real life college football. I'm sorry it doesn't fit the script, Paul, but stetson needed to know what's the situation going to be. Georgia took a swing at Caleb Williams, a lot of schools did. He ended up at USC, JT Daniels met with smart. He didn't want any more part of the two quarterback competition. He left, he's at West Virginia, he'll play pit tonight and Bennett got the assurances he needed, and he puts the roots down and now he's the guy. So here we are with stetson Bennett number one, Carson Beck, a form of Bama commitment to a Brock van der Griff, a former 5 star Oklahoma commitment to B I just say stay tuned. Interesting stuff that we will learn a lot more about this weekend. You follow so many different things. I hate to just throw a bunch of questions that you might, but in just consuming everything that we have in the last couple of weeks since we've seen you. What are you most energized about? What's the subject of my Griffith other than Georgia football is burning to talk about tonight? Well, I mean, I think it's the pending addition of a 9 game schedule in the SEC, which is going to trickle down from the college president's voting on Friday. I believe we're going to get these playoffs finally off the ground. Maybe as early as 2024, if there's a unanimous vote, but more than likely 2025, 2026, you know, Ross dellinger from SI dot com has done a great job on reporting on a lot of this. I've got an SEC source that says, as soon as that playoffs expanded, the SEC is going to a 9 game schedule. And that's going to be great because then that's going to lead to some renegotiations renegotiations between the SEC and ESPN and probably a more competitive television contract. I know there's some hand wringing with the Big Ten landing of 7 billion dollar contract. I think they're trying to add more teams right now, maybe I don't know, Phil knight trying to cut some Nike deal with them or something. Who knows? I don't think they want to take the dogs unless there's some guaranteed money, but you know, all these things have to transfer windows.

"Only thing that's bad for college. Football or maybe is unregulated in not always great. Not not against it. It's just just can't be a hundred percent freelance. I think it's going to be some problems. And that's all thank you for where you're right is unregulated and there's no cap still under control at the moment but we haven't gotten to the first weekend of the college football season. Yeah hey thank you very very much for the call. Alex is up next good afternoon. I'm paul hey they're alex. Hey this is alex georgia first time. Caller wonderful big fan of your show. Thank you so much. I wanted to talk to you today. About george's yearly off the zoo issues. I don't understand it. it's been justin. Jamie newman once again. Oh georgia has the peace and emmaus. Paul helped me make sense of what alex every. I don't know the gilbert story What's behind his issues. I don't know how you can paint a canvas and blame everything on georgia. The jamie newman situation remains bazaar to this day. And it's been over a year since he bailed out he got some very bad advice and he he would have probably done pretty well. Had he stayed. gilbert i think that situation will will correct itself but i think you have to be a little more patient and see what happens now. If we're sitting here on on labor day and georgia lays an egg against clemson. I think there are going to be a lot of critics. Right is there should. Because i mean it seems like a year after year situation. Well we we find some time to wait pretty much cannibalize ourselves internally and it's just you fusing politics almost it's confusing and predictable at the same time and i just thought alex would you would you. Would you rather not be relevant. And and in in in the conversation. It's frustrating because georgia has been so close in georgia has had so much talent Grew griffiths said it earlier today that this is the fourth or fifth straight year. The georgia has started the season in the top five. But it's not like this. They have had a disastrous run. Here they've had to sec championship game. Appearances We all know about seventeen in eighteen and nineteen was was i. It was not a gr- yeah it was a team that that got got whacked once or twice but those things happen and then last year we all know what the problem was It was a combination of of newman leaving Daniels not being ready and some critical inner injuries to the defense Those things happen to every college football team and in spite of all that it wasn't really that bad of a year well year actually right about that actually right about that and this year. We're actually again. Apparently the receiving core whistles supposed to be very from last year pantley their banged up as well so it should be interesting georgia. You can afford to be banged up a little bit more than some schools Because you have great depth food and you're also a fan so you obsess over every injury but that happens. I've seen a couple of stories today. Not not only in the sec elsewhere where we're star players are getting knocked out. This is what happens every single year in in college. Athletics is part of football. I know that's a like a mail order cliche but it is also true. We will take a break.

"Because last year i was looking at the georgia depth chart and i noticed that there was a guy ahead of him and he just so hyphen up to oth- out which i thought was kind of odd and i believe his last name was gone. I could be mistaken. But i mean i just i just think there's a lot of questions about him You know one of the things that. I'll tell you that i know is that that is very wealthy man and says supposedly it's pulled some strings form so me let me start. We're gonna start your right now and i you know. I think we all wish we had had a father who is wealthy and could pull some sharing of course so assuming that his father is very wealthy and assuming that his father pulled a bunch of strings. What does that have to do with his ability to play georgia. Well why why did the one off out when he was supposed to be a. I believe it's supposed to be a first rounder out. Well i e the person opted jamie newman and okay transferred from wake forest. And i'll never forget. Mark rick telling us. He thought he would be the best quarterback in the sec. That didn't happen there was another guy that that played last year. Doin mathis Is he still there. Yeah no. I transferred up names. I show i'm talking about newman last year. I to this day. I don't know why jamie newman opted out. He he made a terrible decision. I think and yeah. But but but i mean do you have any evidence that Mr daniel like page. Amy numerous Adopt out. I'm really curious. Do let me know fall. But don't you think it's a little odd to potential. First rounder off out. "That I think they already did. They already cut him. Jamie Newman. He was good. You know, they signed the guy from moments. Yeah, He, um Yes, they did. I don't. I don't know if in which I don't know if they made him if he if he they already got rid of them, or he's an arm for camp, But it doesn't say like maybe practice squad type thing. But getting back to what you said about about Justin Herbert. You know, like Sometimes sometimes as a fan, or whatever. You're right about some quarterbacks. You're wrong about some quarterbacks and man. Was I wrong about Justin Herbert and he? I guess we had too much time. To evaluate him because he came back for a senior year and we saw him play so much. And he I mean, listen, I'll take I'll take him over over other than like you said, with the with with the obvious choice is like a Josh Allen homes. He's not far away from that, though not the way he played last year. But borrow is pretty good, too. He just has unfortunate playing on the room came got hurt, but Hopefully come back to Missouri. Hello. It doesn't look like the dress Good good year for dressing quarterbacks, and you know what? The Dolphins the Dolphins are probably kicking themselves because they took tour. And they could have had Herbert and he was right there and they took a guy and right now they're wondering if he can be good enough because they don't know. I certainly don't know. "The eagles may some interesting roster moves this week. They waived quarterback jamie newman. They wave wide receiver khalil tate and they also waved wide receiver. Trayvon grimes with an injury designation. The eagles sign wide receiver. Mike walker in. They also resigned. Bettering titan richard rodgers walker is twenty four years old and he attended boston college. He originally signed with the jacksonville jaguars after going unselected in the two thousand and nineteen nfl draft. That he missed the entire. Two thousand twenty season rodgers will be returning for a fourth season in philly. The twenty nine year old registered twenty four receptions for three hundred forty five yards in two touchdowns in thirteen games last season and those were his highest numbers since he signed with the eagles in two thousand eighteen. He was originally a third round. Pick selected by the packers in thousand and fourteen out of california. And he has one hundred forty five receptions for one thousand five hundred eighteen yard in fifteen touchdowns in eighty four career regular season games by the look of things. It looks like the veteran titan will be the number two tight end behind dallas gutter but honestly depends on how things play out with zach ertz but the move that has sparked be most discussion in some mixed reactions. is the eagles decision to waive quarterback. Jamie newman the graduated from wake forest. Who ended up transferring to georgia. The decision leaves the eagles. With just two quarterbacks on the roster now only have jalen hurts in joe flacco as they head into training camp. So i of course deal on. Hers is expected to be the starting. Qb with flacco as the veteran backup. But it looks like the eagles are gonna have to add another quarterback to the mix before training camp so be on the lookout for that. Keep your eyes in ears open because it's more than likely coming. We heard from several members of the eagles coaching staff. This week in here are just some of the takeaways. Some of the notes that i jotted down eagles wide receiver coach aaron moorehead. He touched on his familiarity with devante smith especially after he played a role in recruiting him out of high school any touched on the petition among the young wide receiver room. Eagles new quarterback coach bryan johnson spoke about his relationship with jalen hers and he shared that he's actually known jalen her since he since jalen hurts was a kid and he played for jalen hurts his father in high school. So that's like a fun fact He said he's been around the herz family for a long long time since he was about fifteen years old. We learned that despite all of the rumors surrounding zach ertz returning to philly and his relationship with philly. Jason michael has actually been keeping in touch with ertz and he said that their conversation in their communication has been going extremely well. I've had an opportunity throughout Early when when we all. I got here Had an opportunity to call in in and speak with zach and have continued to stay in touch consistent communication with him throughout So yeah that's that's been good You know just in terms of the conversations that we've had now you know for me. It's just wanted to make sure that those lines of communication are open. I respect zach. Ertz is a player. I look forward to an opportunity to work with him. You know hopefully as it goes forward in and you know just wanna make sure that there's communication there and You know in terms of of that. That's been positive. So i guess it's better to be safe than sorry. I mean you never know what's gonna happen but you can listen to. Jason might full pressure in all of the other player position coaches full pressures on the most recent episode of at the podium. If he just scroll down it's right there. With the 11th pick. My Chicago Bears select Justin Field last month and a half. It's been a lady rod conversation here. It's fueled his fire. They're gonna get the best of it just feels he's gonna be a man on a mission. Justin Fields absolutely carved up. Venables is Clemson defense. Hanging out with Mel Man on a Saturday morning. Dorian Mel, ESPN radio ESPN app. It is time for Kuipers collars. The first chance you've got to ask Mel about your team. After the NFL draft. 88 say ESPN 8887293776 and we started in Columbus, Ohio, and Reggie Reggie, firing up what you got from him. All right, guys. First of all, thanks so much for entertaining us today. Good show. Thank you. My question for mailman is that I'm a diehard Eagles fan. What grade? Would you give them for their draft picks and why? Reggie appreciate that I would give them a B Plus, which is what I gave them. I thought they did a good job maneuvering. Lot of players on this in this draft will hope that football team on both sides of the ball. I thought they got a great pick in the fifth round with Kenny Gain, well, explosive, versatile running back Really good pick with Patrick Johnson, the past Russia and round 70 Guess what. Reggie they signed. Jamie Newman is an undrafted free agent. German husband, wide receiver Rae Ann M. Undrafted and Trayvon Grimes, wide receiver Florida and Shaquan Bailey Pass rusher, So they got four players Roy five, The guard is well from Buffalo got five undrafted free agents. Believe three of those five will make their team. How about Dan and Iowa? Good morning, Dan, What do you have for Mel? Yeah, This is how you doing, guys? I was wondering something that did not. I have not heard talked about what? The fact that if the 40 Niners are willing to trade for Rogers This will probably be the only shot green they ever has to get the third overall pick from gift they trade him. Because automatically, that team will probably let's say you give their first. That team will automatically probably drafting in the twenties, maybe in the thirties, and also if they do trade him now. Kind of compensation. Are they looking at? Well, First of all, you know this trade was it was talked about after Aaron Rodgers did what he did on draft day. So they were hoping their plan was that Aaron Rodgers is gonna be their quarterback. You're still planning for that? They? They weren't thinking that we're gonna trade Aaron Rodgers was coming from Erin's camp to try to force the trade. He's not happy. So from the Green Bay Packers standpoint, they're thinking, George Love. Wait another year or two, and you and Erin's our quarterback, So I don't think you can look at it and say, Well, they should have done this. They should on that. That all came from Aaron. Okay, let's go to Rick, Who's in Florida? Rick? Good morning to you. What you got from L. Good morning, guys. My question. Why is Chris Greer continuing to worry about future draft capital, the other trades he made this year again? And not provide The franchise quarterback because you're all in on this guy with the messed up ankles, wrists and hips, Xterra. Why not provide that guy with the Premier weapon? And David Jamar Chase or Kyle pits it just it's mind Bobbly. Gentlemen, please explain that. Well, we got a premiere player and Jalen Waddle. I think that's where you look at. For two, and now you have waddle and you have a situation on the offensive line. It's the biggest question Mark. We're gonna do a hot list today on teams that didn't make the playoffs. That will biggest issue I have with Miami is the offensive line. Liam Aiken, Berg's nice player..

Final 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Trevor Lawrence and Then What?

"So guys let's start off with the quarterbacks as this is probably the least eventful group especially because we just let mark handle this position group. Because that is his forte his speciality. We don't even really need to go through the ordering or anything specific with this one as we're going to do it the other position groups but the thing that's worth noting is it. Mark was highly reluctant to really go past mack jones and then after thinking it over he threw in kellyn mind. Davis mills kyle. Trask jamie newman. And that was pretty much it so i think we can all agree here that the quarterback class in in this year's nfl draft isn't exactly very good on the back end. There's a lot of really good talent at the top but as we start to push towards the second and third round like we don't even have a third rounder in this group. There's not really a lot of good options now. It doesn't really tier that way. Joe obviously you have the tran said quote unquote time trevor. Lawrence. and then. There's a lot of debate on who that actual second quarterback would be adjusted sales from ohio. State zack wilson from byu. Mac from alabama. It seems like the jets. Presume that zack wilson from byu. And i mean. There's a lot of rumors that three the san francisco forty niners are really all in on mac jones but we'll find that out next thursday. It's gonna be interesting. I mean outside of the top five quarterbacks in legit all five of them could go for the giants would be ideal for the new york giants. That would be absolutely but outside of those five. It's it's kind of a crap shoot between callum on. I'll trask davis mills. Yeah i actually wasn't surprised to of see the look of pain almost on mark's face when he had to we almost twisted his arm into throwing out his like second and fourth round quarterbacks. This is a very top heavy quarterback draft class and part of that could just be the position. Where if you've got a quarterback who is able to be accommodated starter. He's probably going to be a first rounder and probably a high first

So juju smith schuster who is also slated to become a free agent. He responded to what with. Come play with your brothers in pittsburgh so look. The cardinals are not in the mix. There's no way they started off great or they. Six three eight and eight in the play offs. Six years and and hopkins. you know. he's on a team. That's got some talent. Mary buddha baker. Patrick peterson if he stays. They got some good backers. They're jones and riddick but they have some Have some free agents is the question we've been asking kinda like with rothlisberger is larry fits coming back. I think he could if he wanted. The other thing is is that arizona's pretty good defense and they were fourth in sacks forty eight sacks and you think about compensating a guy like that when you already have a good pass rush and see. It isn't fit. It's just me but the other thing to keep in mind about this draft. That's coming up guys who sat out that we have to kind of get to know again. I keep mentioning tonight. You know the number. He could go as high as two. Some people think you could go. Hi as one. But that's not possible. You mentioned somebody trading with jacksonville to give an ice. but he's six five three thirty and is incredibly athletic is he's a jaw dropping tackle and the thing that i think is so amazing tool is that he looks athletic enough to like the tractor trailer like small forward but the pass rush he athletic. You can't get around him but then in the run game. He's out there running in front of running backs at six five three thirty but he opted out but he's the real deal jomar chase magnificent as a wide receiver with lsu bullied defendants but opted out. Like a parsons as i said. Number one linebacker in the draft. You can go hand in the dirt tooth. You want him to rush. Only question on him is is pass coverage but definitely is at least a two down guy kahlo farley. Now the guy we talked about in the first round cornerback from vitek. It look on the film on him from two years ago. And then we're sean slater. Rashaan slater is offensive tackle at northwestern who people talking about his phenomenal balance. So that's good against pass rushers as well. Speaking to oregon. But they had a lot of people have to have edge of on holland and thomas graham java. db's and safety thomas grams a corner and giovanni holland was interception machine and nine interceptions which is amazing. In college and thomas. Graham was a super productive productive corner as well. They didn't play saying that. The woods in the pac twelve levi owned rica. those new laws name defensive lineman at u. dub. This was a guy who can go inside outside good band. I was like that his teammate. The joe trion try on over here. The combine joe try on sixty five to sixty five elite pass. Rusher didn't play last year. What about do is anybody gonna draft. Jamie newman anyone quarterback listed as georgia. But he never played for the bulldogs and for the first two months at wake forest. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Great frame dangerous runner played into gimmicky. Offense obviously transferred never played. This is one of these things where he'll probably be an undrafted free agent. Is anybody gonna spend. Let's say he's a seventh round. Pick and then it's like. How did everyone pass on it. But i just explained why but joe trion is someone i think who's going to be a great pass rusher and but the guy we talked about a lot is gregory russo. From the you now the last report i read on him and the guy said I'm i'm down on him. And i thought oh no. What did he do that. He sell drugs and he pushed the girl down the staircase that he say. Don't you know who i am. Like even foster. No no no. It's just that the report. I saw said that the db's in miami were so good that all his sacks were covered sacks which i think is. I don't even have to look at film to think. That's one of the stupidest things i've ever heard. Every every sack was a coverage sack. All right well then those sacks better happened four to five seconds after the snap if they happen less than seconds give the guy some credit sixty seven to seventy kenny gain wells running back on a memphis and just a guy who's fantastic in the past game as well but he's undersized. He's not a true breakaway runner. He opted out. He thinks he's going to get drafted like the tell me will but i'm sure that a lot of people forgot about him. Some defensive tackles tyler shell then from lsu jalen men from pitt us's j to fellay to fell a master. The howie long swim move. So he's going to get some looks Jalen twin- pittsburgh is probably the most impressive interior rusher. If you wanna look somebody who could be.

"Next day was making plays all over the field. I didn't think you would Be able to get any better. And then you have two receptions off Jamie Newman and 11 on 11 and looks great. So no in terms of the guys who make themselves most money this week, Richard granted definitely at the top of that board. Um, I'm excited. See where he went, You know, obviously had the Steelers writer. I wouldn't mind having come in that secondary, especially with you know the guys that will be kind of rotating out here in the next year and year too, But No, he was phenomenal. I'm excited. Watch him tomorrow and see how he does. I would love I will lose my mind if you get another one. Yeah, I would. I would be nothing to make me happier than this year. Richie Grant, Pick six. Tomorrow. I'll say that much. I thought it was a little gratuitous when Ryan stood over me threw up a W with his hands and screamed Wu tang right after right after that happened, but You know, I really thought that you were going to say the most enjoyable part of your experience was sitting where you sat in the section in the V I P section with the two incredibly handsome, incredibly talented persons that you were sitting with that I can't recall their names off the top of my head, But with with none, Albright and nine settlers a couple guys I know a little bit about a little bit about Yeah, they know it was so fun with Who did you have the most fun watching? Not not who made the most money? Who out there. Just You watch the guy you like. Hollis despises. Do that treat getting to watch this guy. Starts with. Have a South Carolina look really fun. You know, his head would look nice and you know, in a solid and solidarity drills, you know in the Count's Hey, had a really nice diving catch of one day one. A man since the days rolled up. You're like, OK, I was a little bit more attention to try Smith. I think your telephone. We had a Syracuse. He had a really nicely. He's fun to watch the day. Daniel. Um, the last day there, you know, he kind of had a little bit a couple of check ups, Um on Tuesday Wednesday. They were doing seven on seven on Thursday, and they let that girl go longer than expected. And DJ just stuck with a man like glue. And after the after the bills done, you know you could hear all the way for everybody to saying that DJ DJ so No, those those few guys mean Mel a phone we do. I think it's just overall really fun to watch. Um, I think that might not be popular because there's a bunch of people kind of killing this guy on Twitter. But in the right situation, I think he's really gonna work house on as well being that I love you put him down in the box. Next new line of scrimmage. Let him work that way. That's just do that. Everything that dressing just put him where he's comfortable. You know everybody with killing because he wasn't doing good and wide receiver one on one How often we're gonna see, you know, a strong safety. He was going one on one with, you know a receiver in terms of that situation, not, you know, not too often. But you know, he looked at. You got too tight and you made a few plays yesterday. And you know, I just love watching them work. Thanks for last year with your kind of nose for the ball on any time he's in that situation more often than not, you know, you're going to be the guy who's around the people making the tackle. So I liked which dies. And it did. Frank Darby was a lot of fun yesterday. Um, he had a nice next touchdown against angry Thomas, who I mean by all means every Thomas was And good coverage. It couldn't shake him. It's a matter of Frank Harvey making life catch. So there's a lot of fun guys that were a lot of fun. I mean, we can't go without talking about the kitchen, Wisconsin Whitewater, I guess. I mean, he's just the most human being on the planet right now down in mobile, but You know, there's a lot of fun, guys, Don't you quit minor snow. He's absolutely a guy that improved his stock. We're gonna get to the breaking news coming up here just a little bit. Nolan Garda Nolan are not has been traded to the ST Louis Cardinals. We'll talk about that here in matter. Moments last couple here for you, Jared Bailey joining us. Let's talk about the quarterbacks. I feel as though this hype train behind Mac Jones It's kind of gotten a little bit out of hand. I thought he had a good week. I didn't think he had a Broncos need absolutely. Take him at draft pick number nine kind of weak. So what did you come down on Mack Jones and how he overall performed? Well, if you like Paxton Lynch, you will love Mack Jones. Remember fat? So, um, hey, didn't do. I don't think any of these quarterbacks down here are gonna be no long term starters. I think Max got the obviously the highest chance to get a shot at being a starter. But when you look at them, Jamie Newman, he didn't look all that great. Kalman did look great, but no Mac had someplace That's not to say he didn't do you know? Well, it all. It's just a matter of You know is mechanic's gonna be that gray Has this decision making gonna be great? He did a lot of check down on 11 on 11 this week. And I want to see more. I want to see you know, all right now, just trying to bomb it downfield. See what happens when you got that He has a horrible arm is just a matter of okay. Can you really do it to the next level and Like I said, if there's one guy who's gonna be able to do it and get the opportunity to do it, it's gonna be Max Jones. Um, but in terms of the guys, they're down here right now. You know, a few of them. You know my jet To be back up for a while. Moving your journey, men, maybe even a few head over the XFL and try to, you know, make some noise. They're like CJ Walker did. Um, but instead of the anybody being a long term starter, Mac will have the chance to do it. But even that I don't think we're gonna be do you think improve the most over the course of the week. You know, one of the quarterbacks. I thought that was your book Overall who you think the improved like when you first saw me like and then by the end of the week, okay. This is quarterback. There's there's anybody. Anybody anybody Uh, and also walking that he, um he had a very good week on there's a lot of memories about him coming in. Then you go back and watches college state and we kind of realized that Wow, this guy can kind of gotta play. Um, he had I mean, his his mechanics are really just really good. You know, I went back and watched it from my reports for pro football Never again. He just looks really crisp and everything. He does his brakes and nice. Um, you know, he had a route can member who's against? But it was really solid timing on his rounds. Being able to, you know, break to the outside of the perfect spot. Really? It was shake his man in a good way. So also walking that e u A. B. I think you're gonna be one of the guys who kind of flies another red or probably go anywhere between you know the 4th and 5th round. Um, be a nice, solid pick up but now I think that he definitely helped himself a lot this week. You know, he's got a smaller school, so it's not gonna didn't really garner all that much attention. Percent? No, um you know, you asked the U A V coaches around, You know, baby thing, you know, like that. We're not about this guy's about time you got a little bit more attention. So I think awesome walking that, are you? Maybe you definitely improved a lot throughout the week. I like what I thought. Jerry Bailey at J. Bailey in F L. He does fantastic work for pro football network and also a Steelers writer for S I, Jared, It was great hanging out with you this week, man..

"Been to mobile. But I'm not sure how the night life is. Or the morning life for the afternoon life or any other life, But we're fixing to find out. Benjamin. It's Dave Logan and Mike Rice. Good morning. How are you? How are you settlement? You know we are scripted dump. How How are things to mobile? Well, obviously all this late night Bible study and that Ryan and I have done not going anywhere near the bar scene has been has been fantastic. Your voice tells me that it z You stayed away from late night bar sings. Yeah, Absolutely. So. So you mean you've covered in a number of Senior bowl weeks before now, with in the midst of covert 19 and all the restrictions. How how different is it for you? And what kind of access do you do? You have this year supposed to what you have been used to. Um, it is a lot different this year in terms of access to the to the players themselves. It's severely limited. Ah, lot of the zoom called type stuff in a credit to Jim. Now you for pulling this thing off in the middle of a pandemic to begin with, But It certainly was a lot more limited in terms of what you were able to do with the interactivity. You know, I'm used to being able to go out there on the field after after practice, snag Couple players sit down and have a chat. You know, we just aren't able to do that this year. They also they also segregated the You know the actual team personnel from the media that this year on opposite sides of the stadium Now I just kind of defense that went on over there anyway. But you know, most of the people were most of the media was pretty segregated from from team personnel. So do the teams also Have different protocols in place when evaluating these guys and talking with him. There are some scouts that were sent ahead of time to kind of bubble in the hotel that could be there in the room and kind of do the one on ones with that stuff. But for the most part, Yeah, they were segregated from these players. Interesting. So who has if anybody before they play this weekend? Who has sort of stood out to you? And what? What is interested you most in terms of your time down there with respect to some of these young guys. Well, I think there's a good crop of guys down here supported. Remember, the senior Bowl is usually kind of that second tier of player. You know, the guys were gonna be drafted the first round of the top 10 not to come out here because they've got nowhere to go, but down if they had a bad performance, So you came to get the second tier guys out here. I think it's Zapruder Good year for receivers. Out here. You got a bunch of good guys complain especially out of the slot. You look at the Wayne Eskridge out of out of western Michigan. I think he's been the best player down here by four. Um, just showcases, you know, speed Anak around running that you don't normally see out of a guy from the smaller school like I usually see a you know an athlete that's a little more raw. This guy's got the technique down, too. So You know, pretty excited that you see him in the game. But let's talk quarterbacks and I think the start of showed out here Sprite. Mack Jones. Um you know it was familiar with him. I think he cemented himself is probably could be five in his class. There's some other guys in here that have a look at the potential. Um, you know, I think Jamie Newman Who opted out to play this season because of coded transfer from Wake Forest, Georgia. I think he looks pretty good. And you know you got your book out of Notre Dame is Well, um, I think this guy private lives on his dating profile, though he says he's 6. Ft shows up 59 with ladies, uh, meeting for the date. Oh, wow. What about corners? Any guys that pop for you that you might be able to see fitting in with the Broncos? Yeah, And you know, I look a DBS is your specifically through the lens of what they fit. What makes Angio wants his two guys down here really, really jumped out of me. Mila Fong, who? Who's kind of a corner safety hybrid out of Syracuse, um, kind of got a little bit more. Maybe. What will parch does that have been truly at one position or the other, but they played him both at corner and safety. I think he plays pretty well. He's at great length and he hits On then Richie Grant had a central Florida has been a stud. I think he's a future replacement for Karine Jackson. If they were to get him, he's a ball hawking safety who who loves to lay the wood on guys, so I was really impressed with him. Let me let me ask you. You had mentioned Ian Book to quarterback under Notre Dame and I've seen him. I don't know. 34 times this year, watched him in the first claims and match up watching in the final Four action. And I was kind of impressed with his athletic ability is a little more athletic on mobile than I than I thought he might be. What's What's the What do you think? And what sort of the talk amongst scouts with respect to? What is the guy like Ian book fit in in the draft? Well and mostly, buddy I talked to said, you know, probably fourth round kind of guy, early fourth round kind of guy, that guy when you start day three. You see, I'm still up there. You go ahead and grab him and bring him in. He does have that, and he's got a quick first step to use that he can manipulate the pocket. Keep those defenders off balance. Not a three back there. You know, I need to kind of need that the modern NFL Hey, did he took it? He took a couple scrambles and practice and kind of beat guys off the edge. You like to see that, you know, you like to know he's got the ability maybe pick up a few yards with his legs. You're not going to. No one's gonna miss taken from Michael Vick anytime soon. But you know, you go out there and pick up some yards with his legs and you got to be able to do that. The modern NFL Benjamin as things stand today for the Broncos, David now we're talking about You know, the ninth pick in the draft. What do you think they will do if the draft work tomorrow? Panic because they're not ready for it. A bit of a stretch of an exercise their you know. I mean, I think just talking to some people and talking some agents talking from some team guys around the league. I think that They think that the Broncos should probably look at this is kind of a red shirt. You're almost for George Payton. You know, he's coming into a situation where he doesn't have to hire a new head coach, where a lot of general managers doing gonna sit back and evaluate the roster and see the direction of things And to that regard, you know he could trade back out of nine. Maybe kind of build the war chest up for future years and roll that stuff forward and they always have him a larger set. So they look it. Positions of need is potentially inside linebacker a corner, but They would suggest that that maybe trading back out of nine. Let somebody get up there and maybe you've got holes in your lap in the late teens, early twenties and you pick up a couple extra second rounders or maybe a future first rounder and all the sudden you're sitting pretty for next year's. Well, we're talking to Benjamin Albright are Broncos or K away NFL insider. Excuse me, brought to you by credit dot or g'kar? Um, let me ask you this and sort of tags along with what Mike just said. So it nine. The Broncos look for defense it back or an inside linebacker. I've seen both of those positions, um, sort of thrown out there, but with the quarterback spot. As we sit here today, right towards the end of January. As you mentioned George Payton has a six year deal. He's got a long term approached. Not that he didn't wanna win now, but he's a.

Well, I was going to name went down with a bit of an injury at the recesses of Senior bowl. But, man, I'm amazed they even put this thing together. We'll tell you who that is, and what position is the deepest that they've seen so far. Down in Moby or the draft begins. In mobile with a recent Senior bowl in their senior bowl director Jim Nagy joins us right now four time Super Bowl champion here in the Goodyear hotline as we get the straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless Jim before we even get to Mac Jones in Alabama and and the deepest position you've seen so far down there, just putting this game together during covert. What? What was it like, actually just getting practices and guys on the field. Yeah, it was. It was certainly a different year. A zit has been for everybody. I mean, whatever profession were in it took a lot of planning. It took a lot of flexibility and it took a lot from our team. You know, uh, our staff came together. Lots of different contingency plans, and we just kind of stayed paid agile through the whole thing and kept getting advice from people at the NFL level college level. Infectious disease. People like how to handle this best all the way up to a couple weeks ago, when, when the two coaching staff that you know the Dolphins and the Panthers got involved in the process, and we laid out our covert plan to him, and they had a couple of suggestions, and we took those and altered a couple things so Yeah, it was just just trying to be flexible and really being We had to get to the place where we were confident we could pull this thing off safely. I mean, that's that's the number one thing in once we once we got to that point where it was, it was more than doable. Minos full speed ahead, but again full speed ahead. Knowing that things change. The quarterback position. You have some big names that accepted invites this year. Jamie Newman from Wake Forest, Kyle Trask, Ellen Monday Mack Jones, obviously from Alabama, and book from Notre Dame over the course of the week, which guys have done the most to improve their stock who have been the guys who have been generating a lot of conversation. You know that? That's hard for meteo know right now, because during the week I mean, I think Ian might notice. Um like during the during the practice week. My phone just blows up with with all sorts of stuff going on, so I don't get the focuses closely. Um, on the entire field about like you and the quarterback. I usually like the state paper tape anyway, but they all through it. Well, that thing I was impressed with, like they they don't throw a good ball, which is sometimes On tape. You don't get to see like the tightness of the span and our guys all through it Great during the week. I know that just talking to guys around the league. Mack Jones, you know, really had a good week, but I think a lot of people expected him to But But Matt came down and showed that it wasn't just that supporting cast in Alabama. He's actually pretty darn good was accurate all week, you know, drove the ball. Really Well, Um, He's a guy that I think his arms stronger than a lot of people give it credit for when you when you see him play live, which I did it Georgia this year. Against Arjun Tuscaloosa. I mean, I thought then and I thought again this week. So, um, Mac took full advantage. He was kind of in the same position. Daniel Jones was a couple of years ago. You know, he's in that late first early, second round area with a good week. How high can he climb? And he did that He did the same thing Daniel did and we'll see. We'll see what the game looks like on Saturday, hopefully Is the same performance like Daniel did. And Justin Herbert did last year, which which kind of strong board both those guys Before we get to him and more in depth because I loved watching him this morning, and Joe and I both kind of football geeked out today, and we're watching. You know, ESPN, you're watching Senior bowl practices..

"And you know how long it would take your coaches to get in there Those the questions you have to ask. No, I think that's really well said, and it's a great thing. I think we should always keep in mind. As we go through this predraft process, the relative floor relative ceiling more than anything what? You know what it is he for your organization. If you have a position to take Jamie Newman because he could sit on the bench for a couple of years and and develop behind, Ah, veteran quarterback. Well, that's great. But if you're drafting Jamie Newman with the anticipation that he may need to play meaningful snaps, and you're one you're making a mistake, Same thing, and the answer is sending betray Lance on day and I'm sure Tim would would back that up. But You know it, Z really What it is is when are these guys gonna become contributors? Because if you're a coach, you're looking at this and you're saying Well, are is this front office drafting this guy for the guy was gonna take my job because we didn't have. We could have used that on a linebacker that I needed or corner that I needed to make this defense or offense, work or whatever. And so I think that's really you know, when Broncos country talks about investing in the quarterbacks, how long it's gonna take in this that the other I think you need to look at it through that frame of reference is How long are these things gonna take? How long's it take these guys develop, who are day one. If they're not a day, one contributor. If it's not a guy who could start they won. Why would the Broncos even have interest because Vic Fangio's in a playoff mandate? Let's get to some other positions here from the American League will go with the defensive backs because that's something that I've really cared about. And this group is so special. First, the good for your guy. A fee to Mel. A fondue outstanding day should come away with an interception. But it was a nice pass break up kind of tip it up to the air. It himself didn't quite come down with it The play before that had a PB. You closed the gap. Quick on the play. We're able to knock the ball out at another people. You very beginning Practice. I thought a fee to mill upon. We had one of mean obviously for the first two days. It was his best day and he started out well, so he had a good day. Richie Grant, my guy. Outstanding day from him. Hamza! Cyril! Dean, There you go. He had Okay day he sometimes something down. It's a little exposed in man coverage. You wouldn't be asked to do that for the Broncos. Necessarily. They had him playing up in the box quite a bit today, But when it came to man in coverage, he looked a little touch slow, but those were some of the guys that jumped out at me. I don't know. I like Bryan Mills. Hold it pretty well, too. Yeah. What do your observation of the DBS? Yeah, I agree with you on. Obviously, I like telephone. Well, we've talked about him and knowledge and I'll tell you this talking to some people today. He's guys probably go in the second round. These people hired people think he is. There are a lot of teams very interested zone heavy teams cover three cover four type teams so you would fit with the Broncos would do also fits with, for instance, the Raiders would do and I'll tell you that's one team that would be very interested right there in the division. So just something to kind of keep your eye on with him a little bit. I like this, Geraldine, Um you know, I think that he's I think he's gonna be something eventually. Richard Grant. He was a guy I thought had the best day I thought he played lights out today. I thought it was great. Um, there was a couple of plays. I didn't get a chance to look at him. But I thought he looked pretty good when I had my eyes on him, And that's good to see that every time you're checking back, you know he's doing something in There you go. You know, you want to see that kind of thing that these That these practices so I thought he played pretty well. Um Yeah, Overall, I you know you talk about the DBS guy that jumped out at me. It was the TV was going against him was shot Smith. I thought two days in a row. He's look good. So just, you know for me when you got your eye on one thing, and something else jumps out at you, you got to kind of make a note of that so brittle Cox linebacker from Ella's, You got a really nice day. Tough one. He was in coverage on Mackenzie, the tight end out of Georgia. And for the second day in a row. This dude makes a one handed catch, and it looked real Cox was in position. There's nothing you could do. The past was right in front, and he just kind of one armed with his right hand, had no chance to play with both hands. But he did the same thing the day before we made a great adjustment on the back shoulder. He's been impressive big frame moves really well, much much, much smoother than his friend would suggest back to Djibril Cox. If that is the inside linebacker kind of guy that the Broncos could target cause again. He's so long you could put him on tight ends. I mean, he's has seen. Seems like he has the speed to cover out of the backfield as well. That would be the dude out here. That I like the most so far. Yeah, I think he's probably the best fit for what the Broncos currently do on defense. If you go back and you look at a t these guys and looking and he was seen some of the names get tossed around, but he's got it shows up and we saw him show up here that interception today as well. But we saw him show up on a couple and you mentioned that catch from the Georgia You know you look it. You defended that a swell as you possibly could. And he still made that one head catch. I thought I got some news and I was from the from the crowd out there. I thought it was great play. Yeah, he shows up every player plays great defense. At least one of those guys that go back will take, you know, And I'm like, okay. All right, You show me something. Here. Let me go back with tape. See what we got? This could be a guy that you'd be. You'd be very interested in couple receivers. A Mari Rogers came on late and practice Hey, was spectacular yesterday didn't do much early on. But then, as practice we're on. Remember, there's that Syria's there with the defense was winning everything and all of a sudden he caught a deep, deep catch over the middle. Just kind of settled in the middle of all the defenders and then just went up and caught it. I thought he had It's a really nice moments. Anybody else stand out to you? As far as wide receivers and Cornell Powell continues to make nice places, both claims and guys, that's really what was the claims of Receivers Bowl showed out a little bit. I thought it had been probably the most consistent Outside of shy Smith, Um, ever there is. Tony had two bad drops the beginning practice my goodness, and he was verbally audibly upset, right what he said..

"Give you some insights tomorrow night following See you basketball. And then Thursday, the last practice And of course, we'll be back. Live in studio on Friday night in Denver, But we appreciate you guys hang with us over the course this week is we've been kind of Breaking down. What we're seeing out here was some of the buzz is did the national team practice in the first segment of this hour? Let's get to the American team. And as we said, Ben, this is this rosters incredibly stacked. Let's start with the quarterbacks, though, because Jamie Newman was the guy that was the buzz around the practices today, both national and American team Jamie Newman look really, really good, and he had a knocked out year We're gonna be questions about rust. There were questions about timing with the receivers out here, since he's never thrown with any of them, but honestly, throughout the course of some of the one on one drills, or even into some a team. I thought he looked very clearly like the best quarterback out here. We'll see how the week progresses Right now. He's got a notch ahead of Mack Jones. Even Yeah, I would say that he did. I would say that he was the The winner of the day. If there was such a thing, Hey, overthrew a couple receivers. What? Perfect, but I thought it looked pretty good overall. Certainly better than I expected. The measurements came out. He's got those tenants hands. You got admits to grip it, rip it with the football and, you know, I thought that I thought he's placement was very good. I thought his velocity was good. No area. The field was off limits with his throws. He had a seam throw. I thought looked pretty tight. Um, you know we were watching during team. I just, You know, I just liked it. I just like watching the guys will think he's just a prototype. Pickle. Um you know what? What? What? You looking for out of a quarterback in the modern NFL? And I thought I thought he looked pretty good. The other two quarterbacks there, maybe have more name recognition. Certainly a lot more hype coming into this thing, but That Jones very clearly doesn't have the arm that Kelly Mahon and Jamie Newman half and, you know, there was the thing about the quiet cadence and all that kind of stand. It was weird. They ran. They ran the place, so I guess it doesn't really matter. But, you know, I mean, he's not out here. Aaron Rodgers hard counting anybody. Maybe got used to, like, very few fans and stadiums or something like that. And he's like I could do quite cadence because it doesn't matter. You're right. You know who knows? But I think you know with Mack Jones. I don't know. I appreciate him coming out to compete. But he was pretty clearly the consensus QB five coming into this and he might be QB six leaving, you know, Um I don't see anything that particularly jumps out of me. From him. I think he's a guy that reminds him or maybe an Andy Dalton. Anything else. Adult might have been a little more athletic and I hate doesn't have particularly strong army does have decent placement in the short intermediate game, but You don't have a strong arm doesn't push the ball down the field that really do anything that you know it jumps out at you. He's just kind of kind of good at a lot of things not really great at anything. Um, that's there's that killing Monte. Um, I did the best, you know, physical tools overall, but, uh, you know, he's he was off target with passes, um, firing fastballs to running backs That maybe didn't need to happen. Um, and and so I, You know, it's It's interesting to see what what he could do the next couple days to kind of fix. Some of those type things I had the small hands nine and a quarter inch hands are small hands for somebody his size, But, um, you know there those three I would say all three had better days than anybody on the other squad, And that's that's saying something I think particularly highly of Mondor Mack Jones his days So I really love. I want to preface this. I really love the DBS of this group. But we got to get to the wide receiver talent. Now, First of all could areas Tony made a couple of spectacular plays on the ball. There was one where he caught the ball kind of as he's going in on a bit of a slant. Had the challenge was to catch the ball from behind and and kind of up in a way. And that was on a one on one drilling. It just looks spectacular. He tracked the deep ball a couple of times. Really Well, one he came down kind of awkwardly came out of practice. I don't know if he ended up coming back in, but Canarias. Tony, who is going to absolutely go in the first round out of Florida looked really, really good. It claims and receivers a Mari Rogers And what was the other one here? Gotta find him real quick. I know is a pal trying to find his number here, but, yeah, Powell and Rogers there so frickin town that Marty Rogers. I absolutely moved him up and work Whatever. Box you have of a Marty Rogers who I think a lot of people had him as a easily top 100 prospect, But I mean, I think he firmly has the chance to be in date to shut a lot of chemistry but basically show chemistry with all the quarterback. He looked good with whoever was out there. I thought he had Ah, really, really spectacular day. But then we get to the DBS. And I honestly think that between the safeties in the corners, this is such a really nice group that if the Broncos pick any one of these guys, it's gonna upgrade him. Feature Mila Faan Will who you are a big fan of I am a big fan of He was definitely a guy wrote down on my nose before we even came out here. Played corner today..

"So that I'm glad that was held up a little hot. A hot takes floating around out there in Cleveland. I'm glad that wouldn't didn't come back to bite. You were other ones, not you. But other guys I know out there have said, doing up the draft Baker Mayfield, then I'm going to eat horse excrement Never followed. They were followed through. Never never heard of her back for that guy. All right. Information Here was our conversation earlier today. Out of the practice field. How are you, Mace? Doing great. Great to be back here. Think of how much has been abnormal messed up over the last 10 months. And yet we're all sitting here watching Senior bowl practice. I mean, This is a veil of enormous normalcy amidst mountains of chaos. I love it. I've never loved being down here more than right now. I know it's a It's a great reminder, especially without the combine coming up on the other side of this, So no question in today, honestly woke up with a sense of kind of dread. Little bit of a bummer, because not only was today's practice expected to be rained out, But then we're also worried about tomorrow's practice, too. So the fact that we're out here At the stadium. Watching practice is really fantastic. So a couple things I want to get into first of all. What do you What are you looking for? His first Broncos needs like that's one of the things we're talking about on the show tonight. What are you looking for? Right now? As far as what needs need to be filled for the Broncos and maybe a couple of names? You keeping an eye on for that? You have to start I think with inside linebacker and cornerback on the defensive side and Maybe inside linebacker isn't a need for this year. Assuming that Alexander Johnson comes back on our F a tender and, of course, Joseph, you'll going into the final year of his rookie deal. Maybe you're looking beyond that. And the one guy I wrote about over on the NPR dot coms chest Surratt, who is raw. Only been a linebacker for couple years. Very smart, Athletic 45 speed. You look to him. It's somebody you can bring in coverage. A little small tour £27. You're gonna want films put on some weight, but he's kind of that. Upside guy that if you bring him in and kind of incubate him for a year in two or three years, you could be looking at somebody who's one of the better inside linebackers clearly has all the tools to somebody like him. You're also looking at the cornerback position as well now. If the Broncos go cornerback in round one early, you're not going to see the answer down here. But you can't look today to Andy and Day three and see plenty of guys on the radars. Well, then to a lesser degree quarterback and all the buzz right now. They trade for Matthew Stafford. What do you do with true lock doesn't mean you're not looking. I'm sure they're gonna take a long look at Mack Jones out here working, and with the Panthers coaching staff this weekend as you and I were talking about off there. Jamie Newman, who was that way far is transferred to Georgia didn't play all last year. A guy who's got a lot of raw tools a lot, a lot of things that you like from a quarterback, but probably needs some developmental. Time. It's one of the same thing you say about drew a couple years ago, so lot of guys to keep your eyes on. Tell my Surat being raw. And you know Ryan that we're having a conversation about that, I think will earlier were talking about wrong and the differences between what's actually rises the underdeveloped or is he actually wrong? Now? He made the position switch. That's a little bit different. You look at some of the other guys like, for instance, a guy like Belafonte. Is he raw as in he's under developed, or is the raw as in? Hey, has all that skill set there and it just you know he hasn't taken to coaching yet. How do you try to differentiate between the two here? That's a really good question. I think probably the it's different for each of those guys with Surat. You're looking at somebody who has the intelligence to be that quarterback on the defensive side kind of because he was a quarterback on the offensive side. He understands like how everybody everything integrates, but your talk with him you're talking about technically role you're talking about. Is, you know, how does he respond to it to a break from opposing that when he's in coverage, you know, how does he make sure he's filling the right gap? Sometimes he still is learning how to read what's thrown at him. Another thing that happened with Surat this past year North Carolina defensively they were shredded. Not a lot of talent on that side of the ball compared on the offensive side. Well know about Sam. How quarterback a great running back? Caroline, who's flashing here already is Michael Carter. All the town was on the offensive side. They got in those shootouts that you kind of recall over the course of the year and defensively surround, I think, gotten some bad habits trying to cover for everybody else. I want to see what he does when he can just focus on doing his job rather than thinking, Okay, I've got to help the safety out. I've got to help the guys on the eggs. I've even got to help the cornerbacks. There's the slot corner a little bit. These are things that I think Peeking growing as well when he gets kind of narrow his focus a little bit. Okay, So you mentioned quarterback and let's let's talk for a moment about that, because we're also talking off Mike about the different options and, you know it's interesting how things are sort of shaking out because we don't know exactly where Matt Stafford is going to go. But while we're still dreaming, what is the What is the scenario in your mind? That makes sense for the Broncos? The short term, which is this year? Where, you know, A lot of fans are looking for this team to start. Showing promise, especially with some of this youth and long term because these seem like almost two different philosophies. You're going after here, especially if you're pursuing, say, Matt Stafford or some of these other bigger names. Matthew Stafford, You're hoping you can microwave yourself into a contender. The question is What is the ceiling? If you bring in Matthew Stafford, isn't it? Are you looking at a scenario where you trade for him, and you probably have to sacrifice at least the first round pick No. Peter King tossed out a second round pick Andrew Locker two twos. There's going to be competition for Matthew Stafford. The market's going to drive that, Ben, you've talked about this and you tweet about this. It's going to take a one plus and maybe like a wanted to win a three so Are you willing to sacrifice that Because the interesting thing was Stafford you bring him in and You are much better quarterback. But what's the outcome of that you go 10 and six or 11 and five and you're having to go through the wild card round because the chief's basically won the division and so you have to win three road games. So is that worth that sort of sacrifice right now, when you've got a juggernaut that hasn't really begun to be to be hit from a cap perspective, sitting there with the Chiefs, and you may be saying, okay? We're the best we do. A second place in the less Patrick Mahomes gets hurt, So I have to think about kind of the law the long the short term what you'd get out of it compared to the long term, the benefits of Sticking withdrew lock. If he proves to be the guy could be tremendous and at least I think you bring in competition. You're not standing..

If on Well who you are a big fan of I am a big fan of he was definitely a guy wrote down on my nose before we even came out here. Played corner today. Just didn't ever really look lost out there and that that's one of the things I mean, on day one we saw with the national team lot of gravity nature from some of these corners from some of these DVDs didn't see as much of that with the American team, which again it shows you kind of woman athleticism standpoint. They had the ability to stay with these receivers, and they felt confident being out there. Yeah, I thought he looked good homes in the cereal. Dean. There's another guy that had had a great Daisy told you of his length man shows up. He was one that he was one that showed up as well. I thought he looked pretty good. Um, overall, I wish you could've seen boarding a rash. Like I just got cut a little short, so I didn't really get to see as much is maybe, you know, full practice, but we'll look forward to get more on that tomorrow. Yeah, I thought I thought the DBS look look pretty good. Overall mill Farm was one guy that a lot of people are gonna be after. That's not just, you know, Broncos eyeballing that That's just probably had the Raiders eyeballing that every cover three team out there is gonna come covet his length. And, you know, middle of field open teams are gonna cover it covered his ability to hit, so he's gonna be one of those in demand guys that make a draft a little ahead of where he should be simply because he's gonna be so in demand in the evaluation on him. Team's gonna recognize. Hey, if we want to get him, we got to jump a little early. I wanna be I wanna watch a little more Bryan Mills out of North Carolina Central And Aaron Robinson at a central Florida There's a couple of names their cornerback that want to see a little bit more of, but I'm definitely intrigued. Rochelle was a guy who brought up yesterday. Another small school guy. That I want to see a little bit more from but you know the DJ Daniel had an OK day out of Georgia. Not huge, DJ Daniel guy, but I thought you looked okay out there. And, uh, yeah, we mentioned them. Alphonse Woo. Um, my guy Richard Grant had a couple of nice plays. "You could check out his fantastic work at Russ NFL. Sorry about that. I had it right in front of me. How you and Russell, I'm gonna pull your Twitter account your second. How you doing, man? There. There he is. What's going on, man? I am Well, how you guys were doing pretty good. We just got done talking to the lead singer of the Spin doctors. You remember them. Absolutely not. That's that's why I'm too young for that Z gonna say you're kind of a younger guy. Yeah. This morning. Nineties, little mister can be wrong. So more of the nineties Got two princes. Little Miss. Can't be wrong. Uh, maybe if I heard the song I'm very bad with song names. That's one thing for sure. I can tell you draft players all day long, but song names and stuff. I can't do it. That's right. Well, we have you on for NFL draft stuff. So again. Follow me on Twitter at Russ. NFL draft. Really great Follow does fantastic work with cover one dot net. Okay, let's let's talk a little bit, but we have a senior bowl coming up and, you know, obviously, I think a lot of people are still focused on the quarterbacks. Now for the senior Bowl. There's giving a few names out there. T keep an eye on Everybody talks about the guys at the top of the draft. If the Broncos were interested in a day, Tour Day, three quarterback who are names that you think they could be interested in or should be. Yeah, well, I mean, I would have loved this, said Mack Jones. I think he's played himself into the first round. But really, I mean, you have to mention Kyle Trask out of Florida just simply for the fact that his resume kind of speaks for itself. Statistically, he's there. I think he needs definitely a lot of work. Not as mobile as you would want him to be. But I think there's a lot of intrigue there with him. Outside of that. I would have to say it would be Jamie Newman out of Georgia Now, Day two might be a little rich for him. But he's got an opportunity to prove himself. Remember when he was at Wake Forest. He was very impressive on Ben. Things looked like he was going to be able to turn the corner and then he ended up transferring. And then was holding everything. He did not play this year, but I think overall, he's a really good athlete. The mobility stands out right away. He's got adequate arm strength, and with all of that, he shows leadership, everything that I've read and seen with him. He shows great leadership. So if there's any question marks there within drew lock or anything in the Denver Broncos organization as far as Quarterback playing the leadership. I think Jamie Newman would be a plus there. Now He's got to get better within his progressions, lower body mechanics and get a little crazy, But overall, I would say those would be the two guys that seem the most realistic options at this point in time. What about some things later quarterbacks and these people that we could see potentially down at the Senior Bowl. Guys like you in books. They may linger, Phillipe Frank said any of these guys did a chance to get drafted. Yeah. I mean, I think Sam actually does just simply for the fact that the guy's a bit of a game are now I don't know if you necessarily goes, you know, in a 3rd 4th or fifth round range, I would assume sixth or seventh round, but the guy's a game or he plays well within a structure. I think the mobility with him and what he brings in the red zone has a little bit of intrigue and again at 63. 2 30. Good size. Good mobility is not going to throw the ball harder than most quarterbacks in the league. But again, I think there's an intriguing skill set there so he would be another name. I think that could stand out at the Senior Bowl. This is obviously that event that allows players to stand out. So I think for saying this would be one of those events. Let's go back to the first round here because And this is early now. But I'd love to know how you split up the top corner backs because the Bronco's absolutely need to draft they might even need to bring one in free agency as well. But between Caleb Farley packed Patrick Ser tan at Alabama. And then the guy, the Clemson during Kendrick. Those seem to be kind of the consistent top three guys, at least as we sit here today, projected in the first round. A couple of those guys might even be top 10 picks. So of those three guys. How do you split them up? Who do you like the best? Yeah, well, For starters, Kendrick has declared he's going back to No. Is he okay? So I'll scratch him off my list. Yeah, that's the thing that's so many names and so many players and everything, so I get it. But for me, yeah, Patrick's shirt Tan would be the guy at the top of the list. I think I nine. That's a great landing spot for him. I think that's a reasonable spot. And he's got great length. It stands out immediately on tape really fluid, lower body, just a fluid athlete at 612 or three. I think with him he would be the pick if some of the other players may be like a Michael Parsons or or a quarterback that they're interested in. If one of those guys were gone, I think certain would make the most sense for this team and the direction that they need defensively. Again just because of the length what he can do impress man situations and just that lower body flexibility and athleticism really stands out. Aside from that. I like Caleb Barley quite a bit. I mean, the length is there. The biggest concern that I have with him is just More so I think the lower body can get a little bit slow. At times..

"Available will be available in the middle rounds who are who have debtor from cincinnati if he comes out kellen mon from texas am. Jamie newman from wake forest. Transfer georgia south year. But all those guys are are big strong quarterbacks jewels right players so there's something to that especially at the end up taking a quarterback outside of ram one. Yeah i agree. There is something to do that in. I'm not the biggest guy so far out of what i've seen him. He's obviously super talented. Abbas accuracy does worry me but it is an intriguing option if they wanna have a mobile quarterback if they wanna be offense that's threat like that to bring him in and put him with cam as mentor is pretty much as perfect as you can get in terms of transition i think with my whole stance on cam and obviously think we're we're both in agreement debt paying him on a one year deal for very little money is really the only option here. No one's paying cam twenty million dollars next year to be the quarterback. I think that it's clear that any quarterback improves with better weapons. Right look at tom. Brady and twenty. Nineteen year at twenty at thirty two quarterbacks and completion percentage over expected cam. Twenty eight thirty four qualifying quarterbacks this year basically the same in terms of a lot of their accuracy metrics and we obviously know that brady is now top five quarterback in the league again in tampa bay or top eight or wherever. You wanna put him. Sorry i know this is not exactly what we want to be talking about right now but with that being said my biggest worry about cam is that can the scope of their passing offense expand with him at quarterback and maybe a whole season off season in the playbook in everything kind of improving around him they can open up the passing game a little bit more but i just feel like they have had to simplify a lot of things in their in their scheme in their offense. Not just because a cam at a lot of it's because of the receivers to them being able to understand what they're supposed to be doing but is this magic like it can work in that respect right and can they kind of become multiple and multiple personnel groupings and stretch. The field spread the field completely. I've seen a lot of hatfield. Reads out in. The roads are basically out of the offense. I would say for the most part and everything's kind of From what we know at least obviously don't know the play call but you just don't see hosoi juke anymore. You know you just don't see these fulfilled progressions as much and i kind of am concerned if that is kind of stunting the growth of some of the other Younger players that he's throwing the football to you. I'm not as worried about the accuracy stuff in in the mechanics and all that kind of thing because think all of that would improve if he was throwing the better receivers around him but in terms of the scope the offense. I've i've seen them really dumb it down to a point now where we're kind of at you know i. I've seen college often. That run more complex passing games and went. The patriots are doing right now. I think definitely improve the scope of passing offense when you get better. Weapons look at camps..

COVID-19 concerns prompt Georgia quarterback Jamie Newman to opt out of 2020 season

"There has been some very big news in the SEC earlier today coming out of Athens Georgia were Jamie Newman who had transferred from wake forest expected to be the star of the high flying dogs announced. He is opting out because of covert or certainly a lot of conversation about that and we caught up earlier in the program with Mike Griffiths. Part of the reason he was coming to Georgia was to play more a pro style offense and group those potential NFL skills and you know I think he's been able to work in that offense, and now there isn't worth yet you know there's always the risk of injury with ten game schedule. Last year, you make it through the season had a shoulder injury, the poorest mrfloor state. Now, he's looking down the barrel of a ten game schedule. He's got a guy on his heels that. My overtaken for the position and JT Daniels. You know how does that look? NFL Scouts so I think this is the safe decision maybe per for Newman if you have concerns about cove nineteen or losing your job or or getting re injured, let's face it. It's a really physically Paul I mean there was only four out of fourteen teams in the league last year that had a quarterback started every game and that was an eight game season. Now, you're looking at a ten game season.
