"I'm donald sutherland. To smile mom did it. That's a little different. And that was a fine young man when he joined the coyote. You know it didn't sound right. So i have this great producer you know. My version of mike is this guy named staff and he's an awesome producer. He does my podcast. The rubber boots podcast and so we decided to do it. like an audio book on steroids where we'd take the chapters but you'd hear you guys tell them the story and any put in all the you know the radio dot kind of sound effects and they're really cool. We did wits already. We're going to get to business in january but it's kind of an audio twenty twenty two might by expected to read you you. Did you put my voice memo to you on the pod. Yeah i get permission for that. No i don't care what did you take. Oh shit. I might have said. That was bad. Yeah i made you look great. But i think i sent it. You just didn't listen to listen. Fuck anything anything. I sent you a finnish version of the podcast but anyway it's not your stories. Were great guys. And and i'm not blowing smoke but when i sat down i said both these guys have to be in the book. Because they're exactly what the books all about. We appreciate that Different route here. How's the golf game. You mentioned the masters and there was a big. I think they did something similar to the sandbags base. What was the deal. That was you and dubus played. I'm gonna i'm gonna butcher. What was the match so yes so. My sort of business partner is As soon as the call. Jeff is a guy named jack another jeff jeff aikman up here who also represents jerry di and he's good buddies with kyle dubious jerry as comedian. That people should listen to watch. Mr de which i think is now available in state space. Show we just had him on. Yeah he's awesome so basically he wanted to put together this big charity match for a lot of money and it was ended up being dubus and jerry against me and odom jeff. O'neill it was incredible. Tragedy where i was on fire very streaky. Probably kind of like biz and os kind of like what. He's not. I would say does not as good as you wet. But he's really good player and Jerry these really good and kyle's got a good swing but obviously no doesn't have a chance to play as much because he's a gm. And and so. I was on fire for the first. You know front nine. Basically and made some birdies. We're up by five strokes. And then i completely crumbled down the stretch and always never forgiven me. And it's all captured on video. It's horrific wedge game. was it your wedge highways chalking wedges. Because you know like you guys might feeling i could do. Tv in front of ten million people. But you know they closed down the course there was a four cameras and you had to might things on and when i start to go south i go south in a hurry and i started to question everything about my gay. And i'm a mental midget was just awful. Still great content right there. You get more into that speaking of dog. He's always dog. Does is not allowed to come on up too bad now you now. You are oh dog. Tsn the absolute the number one man at tsn's on with us now our dog come on when you guys were talking about stories. That couldn't go in the book. I had a book of stories from him. That couldn't go in the buck. Ninety percent of a palmer reese involved. I think that's why he doesn't wanna come on your podcast. Because he doesn't trust himself to edit himself we'll edit he is. He's very much like you to in that he is. He is incredibly self deprecating. He's a hilarious guy and he would rate at and he's a great storyteller. That's one thing. And i think i'm surrounded by you. Know jamie mclennan. Dave pool and mike johnson. These guys are awesome storytellers. And so. that's what makes it so easy to do a book like that. James you downplay. Maybe a creativity too much. You've got a real creative like the scratch you behind the puck off a glass song The panel hanger video was a huge. Hit you great acting. By the way you had an appearance in goon. Is that some you kinda wanna to do. Maybe a little more of as you get older with those kind of fun side projects. I had a bunch of real idiot. Friends are a growing up. Like real idiots. You guys would love them. All just did ridiculously stupid things. Every friday night. I was not about getting girls. It was about pulling the stupidest prank. And i was probably the least funny of all those guys and so i grew up in that and i think i always wanted to do idiots stuff and when i joined. Tsn eventually they let me do stupid stuff. I did a bunch of things with long ago that we're really dumb and the clover glass. I always wanted to be a musician. I think secretly. My dad was in. And i never had talent to actually write music but i could come up with tunes and so we did. That puck over glass video and and we did another one called. Don't take my goal away. Which is was a boy band. We did a parody of like an instinct video and it was. Oh dog and myself noodles. And bob mackenzie does a rap. No makes an appearance at you. Guys got a youtube that one it's called don't take my goal away and We have. I have another brilliant friend. Lester mcclain on my pod. And he's a brilliant musician who works at tsn. so basically i'll call him. And i'll have like the tune in my head. Alright the lyrics. And i'll say last year you gotta put this to music and it'll be like Huckleberry glass camera go like a work so hard to make to the league and puck over glass. He reffed kiss my at a so the two feel put it. He'll put it to music and that's the one thing i'm really. I have mazing people. Tsn but they've always let me do stupid stuff like that..

"I think a lot of people did that. He was sort of quiet. Little bit aloof. Maybe and i was asked maybe a decade ago by my boss to do a serious feature about backup goaltender. They wanted a serious look at what it's like to be a guy only plays ten or twelve games year and we chose jamie mclennan. Because i think think you know if you've been thinking about getting into broadcasting. His career was almost over so he was an easy guy reproach and in the two weeks oh between getting assigned story going to do it. I decided to change it and make it into something completely different. Which was a complete kind of joke of a story. About how a backup. I thought to myself backups. Monday must hate the starter. Because they have the job that i want and so ray came up with this idea of of of long. Be a real jerk. Who used mclennan has slave and mclennan was quietly seething inside and wanted to get rid along ends up driving over him with the zamboni in a dream sequence. It's really stupid television. But that was the first time i met him. We showed up in florida. And the first see we had a film was the getting run over by zamboni and so who's the end practice in the long was coming off as he's coming off the is had to stop and say. Hey roberto james. I know noodles. Talk to you about this. We're going to film the scene. Now where We we run over you with zamboni and he's got no problem and he was so good and right away. When we started filming the sped he started coming up with ideas. And i think the relationship just went from there and then he got traded to vancouver and he would text me and say hey. Why don't we do Why don't we do a story on this. Like when and the one i think was the greatest in my not the greatest story but when the longo schneider thing was happening in vancouver that was a lot of tension there right about who should be the guy and he text me in the middle of all this and says why. Don't we do a fun piece about to be number one and having this incredible rivalry in so we went very wet shot Complete silliness of the mall and going back and forth on each other. I think you can find it on youtube and for him. And i think that was a great piece because everyone thought these guys must hate each other ballot for number one in instead they were close friends. Who sort of gave a big wink to the entire controversy of the situation. And i think that just shows you know long was incredible sense of humor so the bits that we've done with him or are some of my favorite bits of the tsn and he's one..

"But you know as a viewer one of the best. I don't know what it was three years ago. maybe more the blue had a pitcher jobe. Genie I don't know if you remember him but remember mia yet. He had like the us the best person for viewers to watch being interviewed because he just say the most quirky things. Yeah he was a character. Yeah it was such a joy. I'm geez were doing well. It was such a joy. Just you know listening to this guy speak. He was like the best part of the blue jays. That season I'm i'm wondering whether there's any one like that in hockey free. Whether it's general why i think a lot of the guys i work with are like that and you'll you'll find any. Anyone reached the book. There's a lot of tsn guys in there. Because i think that generally great story in in the end all we do is tell stories right abroad. Cash should be is few try to tell stories and maybe you don't think of it when you're watching it home. You're just watching the game to see the result but the best play by play guys. They're telling you stories. The best tv broadcast. Tell you little stories within the broadcast. Right and I think that the guys who end up in television as analysts or radio. Whatever may be are are do that because they're they're the best storytellers and so the guys i sit next to dave poulin. Jamie mclennan jeff o'neill Carla polyakov will You know i could go on. Mike johnson ray ferraro. These guys have great stories. And that's why they're all in the book. Jamie mclennan is one of those guys. Kareem that you could sit down with reveres. He could tell you hundred amazing stories. Like i put two of them in the book and they just make me laugh so much and some guys just have that that gift and as we were talking about a few minutes ago. It's you know there seemed to be a lot of them in hockey. And that's what made my job pretty easy on beauties right because the guys have the stories i just i.

"Where it's just it's not going to be an ideal season but you just hope to get it in and then everybody gets vaccinated and we're okay by the fall and have normalcy again. I suppose that is true. james back to your book. I know roberto has written the foreword on. Is it two books now is it. is it more. Yes no you're right. You're excellent to two books is what's the you guys must be good buddies. What's what what is it about roberto that That that you that he sort of Is showing up in in your books. Like this kareem. He I didn't really know him. A who is this guy. I thought he was actually kind of aloof and this is going back ten years. Okay yeah you know. I think he had the reputation. It wasn't super friendly with the media a little bit aloof and give you the quick quick quick version of the story but my boss told me to do a Wanted to do a feature on backup goalies like serious feature on what. It's like to be a backup goalie. And jamie mclennan was the the roberto's backup in florida. That's where he was at the time and so he said why don't we do story on jamie mclennan and jamie was a pretty funny guy and i came up with this idea instead of doing a serious story. That would be do something. What's the backup. Goalie really hated the starter. And he you know quietly fantasized about getting rid of them. And so. I kind of wrote the silly scripts care by you know. Roberta was a real jerk. Who is making jamie. Be a slave and Yeah so we did this. Really goofy peace and basically it involves scene were jamie runs over. Roberta with zamboni in a dream sequence. And i'd never met roberto and we had to shoot that scene. I they were coming off the ice practice in florida and i'd never talked the roberto and so he's coming off the ice and like. Hey roberto it's james from tsn. We're gonna shoot this thing. And the first scenes going to be jane running over you with the zamboni..

"This this summer sorry summer this fall off season is going to be is going to be different for. Different every year but some years goalies available this year. On overdrive yesterday traits we came up. Jamie McLennan mostly came up with about eight or ten guides that are going to be available. Yeah. Pittsburgh's going to trade one of their goalies for is already said that Brayden whole Thomas Grace likely will will be available Colorado's got to do something and goal. Most Likely Vancouver's Got Jacob, marks Marxism is a free agent. And if they signed him to, you know they got to do something with that your co then. The expansion draft of the following year Cam, Talbot Mike Smith. I'm trying to go through here When a PA- Calgary Ottawa I mean, there's a ton of teams. There's lawyers Jamie got. Jamie. Got To eight pretty quickly like bots that I assume it's going to have to do something you know goaltending whether they're going to bring back both Rask and Yaro Halack. So You don't trade Freddie Anderson sure I. can see why it's been four years right they've. Up They just haven't gotten over a hump with him and goal and at times, he's been part of the issue. But. You can't bring back or it makes no sense to bring back a goalie. That's not a clear upgrade for longer term. You know you've got Freddie till the end of next year. If. You can't upgrade that. Don't add term to someone similar it would be my my tack. A wanted quick Saudi you on Mike Greene who retired after fifteen seasons in the NHL in a moment here. But. See I will talk about this in another podcast covers missed the mark on marks from here because they didn't engage early enough and based on his play and based on everything. You just said, I think Jake marks term is going to be a super hot commodity as a free agent. So Vancouver's GonNa keep this guy they're going to overpay to to keep them. That's that's the reality. He's he has been brilliant. Vancouver. migraine opt out of the return to play with the orders for a bunch of reasons. Health Family A. The thirty four years old eight, hundred, eighty, NHL Games five hundred, one point one hundred and fifty goals man when he was healthy in his prime. He was just fun to watch. I mean he he he had his moments big liability. As an NHL Defenseman. But he he was rightly in the Norris Trophy conversations when when he was at his peak. Thirty one goals the one year. Thirty one goals for. So he ran at Washington power play with a veteran in back when they were all kids. Yeah and that's you know now it's John Carlson up at the top. But before that, it was green and Now he played a style that. Defense was a starting point. And suggestion at sometimes. And man he was all over the place he could pass the pocket could really shoot it Image, I have of. It's when him and Ovechkin were really young those two knuckleheads, USTA race the. The equipment cart. And they'd race it underneath the big door. And a couple of times they get their, they'd have to lean sideways to just make it. I mean, these guys are twenty whatever two years old and they're they're they are in the big equipment Carter. I'm like man they Washington's management the looked at the barreling down there and. That's our leaders right there. No kidding again. Thanks to Boston Pizza for taking us into headlines here an episode thirty nine. Before we break for Craig, Baru of the Saint Louis Blues Ray time to name our players. Are Doer, playoff performers of the week and I love playing the role of captain. Obvious because I'm good at it. I'm to Brayden point of the Tampa. Bay lightning an and not just because a one specific game I mean just the the playoffs in general and how creative and magical. This guy is I mean he's a dog on a puck. You know if he doesn't have that Puck is going and get the. Puck, and he's he's one of those gifted offensive players that seemingly can create something out of just about nothing. So we see that shift-by-shift from brayden point. So He's my doer playoff performer the week. How will you you know in Vancouver? A lot of people are talking about Quinn Hughes where he's had just amazing playoff but Elliot's Patterson has been brilliant his first playoff to and after Vegas steamrolled Vancouver in. Game. One. And it looked like Vancouver was matched in game two Patterson comes out has three point is a dominant performer in the game sets up Tyler Toffoli nine seconds into to Foley's return. For goal. It's a crossbar misses a breakaway all over the place sixteen points in his first ten playoff games. He's my door performer the week. Alright. Lis Pettersen and Brayden point are doer plop performers of the week..

"Right. another entertaining guests here on the rain dregs hockey. Podcast weren't coolest definitely fits into that category. And when when you think of the bigger picture of this right I mean so. You're starring in the Western Hockey League and clearly on the path to do what you did and become a an exceptional. Nhl Player but back in that day or coolest was a above average western hockey league talent. Offensively he was. He could not have pictured in his mind Beth that he was going to get into the movies. He was going to help develop a crushing entertaining TV series in two and a half men and also be the majority owner of an NHL team the Tampa Bay. Lightning talk about a life that he's lead and enjoyed. I'm sure every second of the thing that strikes me is like how little of it could have been planned. You know like the. He was playing hockey so he probably thought he was going to be a hockey player. When I was five years old I thought I was going to be an NHL player. Because I didn't know any different. I've just a little kid but then I didn't do anything. Different drags I played hockey my whole life. I retired and now we broadcast so he's playing hockey and then he's almost a commodities trader and then because he noticed as a bunch of beautiful women are going to Hollywood. He's like well. I'm going to go to Hollywood. And then he ends up in the movie business. There's probably all kinds of people that want to be in the movie business. The tried to develop a little program and or a movie a TV show something and the first movie they decide to produce on their own is saw like it's not like it was a died and then they had to go scramble for money they they hit with the first thing and then that leads him back to his first love which is hockey where he can purchase Tampa Bay. I mean like what a crazy time line to draw. There's a great saying Plans or something that made wildlife is happening and so he's making all these plans and then all of a sudden life took him fourteen directions. I I think it's amazing story. And he talked a little bit about it in the podcast. You know how close he came to getting back in buying. Who's blues and I mean he certainly didn't commit to wanting to jump back in the NHL ownership anytime soon. But I mean I wouldn't be surprised with you. I mean he's got a great relationship. It sounds like with the commissioner and doesn't sound like money's a problem so who knows He didn't say no now. It didn't jump right away and go. No I'm not interested anymore at passed in like he's young enough. He's what fifty nine years also more I think it kind of struck me drake's just even in the way that the right thing came along. He's not uninterested. Earn off and thanks coolest joining us on the podcast every week on the podcast. We ask ask you to send your questions. Via email or terrain briggs dot com or an instagram. You can find us ran dribs and will answer as many as we can here on the podcasts on a weekly basis. We call it. Ask Ray and Greg's anything question. Wandering comes from Jane's and James Says Assuming the NHL will be back in the summer. And I think we all assume that but maybe unfair to assume that. Do we think that it's going to be harder for goaltenders to get their game? Back or skaters and Jamie McLennan talked about this on the podcast. Few weeks back. He says I think goalies since they might take a while to get their heads back into that unique mental state and the instinctual. Part of the game are what they're going to have to get on top of and might struggle with you agree with James I think it's harder for a goal goalie to get his timing back on the bank place. That will happen One thing goal is always talk about. Is that the The it's one thing to face a shot and practice words of predictable shot from you know. It's a drill predictable. Shot from a predictable place and in the game. Of course. That's just that just doesn't happen I I think it would be harder for the To to Kinda square up their game aright from Nicholas for your rate during the off season. How long of a break normally take from eating each summer? And how long did it take you to get your scaling back to one hundred percent game shape Whenever you resume the point is from Nicholas. He's wondering out real difficult is going to be for guys who haven't been able to skate. Since this pause in an probably generation speaking this will be the first time that these players aside from injury haven't been able to skate for two or three months. So how long did it take you to get back into game shape up top of this going be To get back into game shape. I'd say week by week you would get better. I've start right after the August long weekend until that would give me about a month till camp. I probably could squeeze that up if we're under time restraints or something Like these guys will be I would say within within two to three weeks. They should be in pretty decent position to play. Ra question from ordinances Seattle and you may have some inside information on this so just go accordingly whether you can answer not arden. Says I can't name the NHL Seattle team until things are back to normal. What we think is the best name of what's been speculated the Kraken the totems the metropolitans the rainiers the emeralds Sakai's the whales the sea lions the eagles any others and an ardent as fingers crossed for the Sakai's any inside information on this given cameras connection. Decio it okay. If if Cami knows he hasn't told me and I will tell you. The Granados should work for the because there was a time. I'll get back to this answer. There was a time I'm sitting in a Cami and I were in a hotel somewhere. We're on a little vacation. Jon Butcher Gras sends me a taxed and he says hey I hear. Tony is going to coach. The University of Wisconsin Kelly's brother. Tony and I said my cinnamon back. I had no idea so I yelled tour. Cami was Kinda lounging and I'm with the kids and I go. Hey It's Tony to coach Wisconsin. He came up with this terrible line. I'm like are you kidding me? And she's like well. I wasn't supposed to say anything. And so in that. Talk Bucci text back and said I hear Bonnie's going to there are other and I said is Danni going to I go. What is wrong with you. People Cami new for a week and never told me anything so if she knows the name I got no idea my two preferences if I were to pick in order would be the totems and the cracking okay. Do you know what talking is. It's a sea monster thing. A mythical sea monster seemed it for you. I was surprised you knew that I think what you're saying there. Is you think I'm an idiot? A little no. No no no no. So here's the thing drinks. The told him as a historical main. There's a connection to You know to former professional hockey in Seattle I think there is a respectful connection to the the native American population up and down the West Coast first nations in Canada I think that could be done. I hope it can cause I think it would be fantastic the crack and all I can think of is they would have the best mask on. What was the movie and again? That's a cool movie. Based on a mythical creature a where Zeus screams all released crock and it was lutely of Nissan was use. It was it was an animated movie. Lousy now no not. An animated movie was another one released the crack. Kim Comes from the Lego movie. Okay but in this particular movie. What's what what what. What's the Angry lady with the snakes growing out of her head Medusa so that so this dude and his pals had to go into her layer cutter head off and that was the only way that you could kill. The cracking was by holding the head up and the cracking turn into stone and it wasn't an animated movie. We're both going to get absolutely hammered for this. Yes roasted what you described is never seen what I described. You've never seen well. At least we both know what the crack. So we're we're covered on that front. So what would you pick I'm okay with the totems I like that because embraces culture and the history of the area so I'm probably more in favor of that but I agree with you in the top two picks. I like the crack. And just because it's you know there's a mythical connection to it and you're right you could have some fun with it it. It reminds me a little bit of Vegas right when you go with you. Go to a game in Vegas. There's so much theater and ceremony happening before the game during the intermissions post game and all that there's probably an opportunity there that Seattle can learn from. Yeah I I agree. I I think there's a real easy market or marketing to crack out. Okay Ricky gets our final question and ask Ray and rigs anything A bit more serious a lot more serious if the color nineteen projections in the news. Turn out to be true in the United States seeing thousands of deaths a day and June July peak ricky says I don't know how any of the big four sports leagues can be getting back to playing at that time so he's talking June July and he appreciates that sports is Is a distraction. We all want that. But what's wrong with waiting another month or two until things are back to normal or closer to normal the finisher currencies in and start the two thousand and twenty one h l. and NBA seasons in January of necessary? So really what Ricky is talking about here is wiping out the remainder of nineteen twenty starting twenty twenty one in January. I don't know that I'm willing to go that far wiping out the season. I don't think that you have to but I know ray there's at least one team in the NHL. That would like the pause to drift into August so the players don't even think about coming back to training camp until you play whatever you can play in terms of the Stanley Cup postseason and then you start next year in December and that's workable and that takes some of the stress off the players. Their families The health authorities in the provinces and the states to get this thing back running the more. This goes on the more that were reading. And you know The numbers from the United States. Right now the the number of people dying per day and the number of people being in fact it is. It's hard to get your head around If this didn't.

"Let's let's put it that way in terms of of what's available but I'm looking one spot down on my list at a Defenseman Ryan suter and I think it's I think fits may better with with what the Atlanta thrashers need at that point and again another guy in that thousand game club Another franchise type Defenseman who Hopefully doesn't it like Atlanta too much. Because he's not gonNA spend too much time there but I think they're hard to pass on Jeff Carter but then go with Ryan suit or on behalf of the of the thrashers so Ryan suter actually drops one pick. I guess that's the first guy we've had who who still winds up drafted in the first round draft one. Pick to the Zombie Winnipeg jets. The Atlanta thrashers John. The next pick is yours for the Calgary flames and before we get into that. I should have probably been mentioning this earlier. But in the proper. Draft the Calgary flames drafted dion enough from the red deer rebels. John who you take with that pick. I'm GONNA Throw Lake. This is going to provide a lot of chaos theory in the Western Conference National Hockey League. This is gonNA throw everything on its axis in anything that happens after this point is gonNa be a obsolete. Com is an interesting turning. Point for Calgary they were lousy team. That year changed a coach twice. Darryl Sutter became the coach. Lateness sees in the general manager of that off season. This is his very first. Pick as the coach of the Excuse me as a general manager and coach of the Calgary flames. Keep in mind that this team after the lockout was a team that Darryl Sutter coached all the way to game seven of the Stanley Cup. Final behind meek a kiprusoff but They did not have meek kiprusoff On that team back in two thousand two thousand and three they were rotating Jamie McLennan and Roman Turret so While I wanted to crack wise and make a joke that Darryl Sutter would draft like a fourteen year old Trevor Lewis or something like that or Colin Fraser. I'm going to go and say Marc Andre. Fleury get your stuff head on the West over Calgary and that completely throws the balance of power in the Western Conference On an access because of what meek gipper soft data over the next You know thirteen fourteen years. Well Marc Andre fully was the first overall pick in this draft So I suppose he remains the first goalie taken obviously a multi Stanley Cup winner going to rich the Montreal Canadians drafted tenth overall and they selected Andrei Kostin only three hundred ninety eight games in two hundred twenty two points. So I reckon however you take in that place would have wound up being a better pick. Who Do you have tenth overall for the Montreal Canadians yet? Definitely not Andrei fee for service. And I'm just I'm still getting over the fact that that John got the draft and Darryl Sutter I just I think that's phenomenal. Yeah I mean I. I have to just mirror what I said the last time. I think the fit is is better here in terms of the Montreal Canadian so I can't pass up. Jeff Carter with with that number ten. I think he's GonNa fit in really well there Again they obviously looking for for forward help At the time and then help on the wing in particular they didn't make the correct pick but You know knowing what we know now in terms of Jeff Carter's productivity particularly that goal scoring and his longevity I think that's that's a perfect fit so Welcome to Montreal jet part. Well that makes an excellent segue to the next pick which belongs to Philadelphia. They did draft. Jeff Carter eleventh overall with at one thousand forty games. Three hundred and eighty two goals. Seven hundred thirty two points. Obviously Jeff Carter winning the Stanley Cup. Two seasons with the La Kings John who replaces Jeff Carter for the Philadelphia Flyers with the eleventh pick overall. That's an incredibly good trade. The flyers made there that was from a trade from two thousand and one with Phoenix That they got that eleventh overall the eleventh pick in the two thousand three draft. You know they're probably a little frustrated. Flurry fell all the way to nine. Eleven they were sitting on the Roman check Monica as their starting goaltender. Who had very good number before he joined the kings but keep in mind. This was also you know. Hitchcock coach team They had a good mix of that youth. You had gone. Yays Mon- GONYEA Justin Williams. Patrick Sharp all adult twenty one and twenty two and then he also had players. That were older. Mark Ricky dicky Primo John Leclair. Jeremy Roenick on that team a off. Eddo two or three seasons as well So I'm going to go. And and this is probably the biggest surprise here I'm going to pick somebody that wasn't even drafted in two thousand and three but will jump all the way to eleven. And that's going to be marked. Your Donahue was draft eligible that you're wow okay well you threw me for a loop. I don't have his career stats but I mean. Obviously we know who he is and what he's done. So yeah an undrafted player makes an appearance leaping all the way like you said to Eleventh Norwich with the twelfth pick overall the New York Rangers took Hugh Jackson at two games played in the NHL Zero Goals. Zero six zero points five penalty minutes. I think at this point you could draft Jeff Tambellini and it would have been a better pick than he jesmyn all due respect to huge estimates so rich who do you have with the twelfth overall. Pick going to New York yeah. I had a full marks the John. There I didn't even after you're done on my list. So he's he's the reason drafting circles around the also feel like I'm getting all the teams that made the really I i. I'm looking good here because every everything I make is basically an upgrade over over the one that was made by the by the team. So so yeah. I'm I'm looking at this Rangers team here. I don't know I can go either way with it So so maybe Maybe what I do here is split. The difference and get myself a Brent Burns in in in New York. I think that's a good pick. That was kind of a rangers team that I mean my goodness Peter Ned bed Eric. Lindros Mark Messier. You still around Coming up at year so they need a little bit of help there. And I'M GONNA go ahead. And Give Them Brent. Burns with with my Brent Burns one thousand one hundred thirteen game. Six hundred ninety four points on the strength of two hundred and ten goals now rich. Would you play him at forward or defense because that was a that was kind of what? I'm thinking I'm giving them a little bit options. I started off on defense and then And then we'll see where things go fair enough. Now we get to the the first pick of three in the first round for the La kings and the real secret reason. We're doing this exercise. John you are up for the La Kings drafting thirteenth overall. Obviously in the real draft. They took Dustin Brown out of the storm. Do we stick with US Brown or do we see a new player in Kings Jersey. Chew things first of all I brought up Jeff Tambellini. He's actually now a pro scout with the Tampa Bay. Lightning was just hired a recently. I know he also has been general manager and executive NBC hockey circles as well. So good. Luck Jeff Tambellini. He as he starts You know the next Chapter N- grade organization in Tampa Bay. But before I make my pick I just need to know rich do you know if if Alison and deadmarsh coming back like our timeline is is summer yes for sure now there. There's been a lot of good references in Roman check monarch I remember the excitement. I forget which analysts that says that Roman Monica lays goal like a new board Moose and that I've never forgotten that and how ever many years it's been like that is absolutely perfect but yeah I I remember all the all the good times so Jeff Tambellini. Where where did you go to college Yeah no he was one of my guys. Is it m? Yeah he was. I didn't own that while he's a freshman when I was a senior but You know I. I you know you know what we should do a look at college. Geise top college guys to go in this draft right here but at this thirteen kings took Dustin Brown. He was AAC while storm player He he went and played major junior. I'm looking back at this. And I'm not looking for any sort of serendipity or symmetry or anything like that. I'm looking for the best player possible and I feel Dustin Brown falling to thirteen for the La Kings is still a little bit of a steel is a kings team. Little bit of a difficult transition unsure with Some of their injury concerns fields pot the near the end of his rope. I think they stood that at the time. They're getting the best player available for me right. Now that's Dustin Brown Brown currently sitting tenth overall in points amongst players drafted. I don't have the point. Totals for players. Like Giordano or Chris Kunitz. Who were not drafted? But I reckon he's probably still up. There obviously holds the record for most games played in Kings Jersey and the first American captain to hoist the Stanley Cup. Twice the first kings player to ever host the Stanley Cup and one day will no doubt have his Jersey retired staple center. Dustin Brown remains a King of the thirteenth overall. Pick to wrap this all up rich. You have the fourteenth overall pick for the Chicago Blackhawks now in the proper draft. They went ahead and took Brent Seabrook. Who Does Chicago wind up taking in this draft? Yeah this is. This is tough for me because I get past the biased. You know I I have to get past the fact that I know that in two thousand six they took. Jonathan Saves Two thousand seven. They took Patrick Kane and that those two picks worked out so well. So I after that to get past that when I look at some of the names The that are still available here. I mean there's so many that would make sense. I mean a Mike Richards. Make sense even Corey Crawford do. They drafted later It makes a Lotta sense for them. A Dustin Buffalo and makes a lot of sense Ryan Kesler makes a lot of sense. But you know what there's a guy there who the Chicago Blackhawks drafted one of my. When I look back on on that black ox era so many great players but one of my favorite guys to watch was always Brent Seabrook and just love the way that he played and the consistency that he brought and really feel like the Blackhawks did well with that Hick I mean here Malone with Duncan Keith. Where the the two kind of backbones of of that team that that that little run that they had there not a little run in the long run that they had there and I I feel like it was a good pick then I. It paid off for for years and years to come and I'm GONNA do it. Run it back. And and Pear Duncan Keith. With Brent seabrook again and and see what the what the blackhawks can do Brent seabrook currently fourth in the draft with one thousand one hundred and fourteen games played Four hundred and sixty four points. Not Bad for defenseman and perhaps maybe we'll do a Redo of free agency contracts and contract extension signings later. So you can avoid Brent seabrook getting the the current contract these young..

"Ferraro We've got Jamie McLennan AKA noodles a joining us. This week on the podcast and rape talk about one of the unheralded heralded characters of our business. Because I don't know if you know if you noodles well before getting into broadcast I mean you cross paths obviously now. Did you play with noodles and Saint Louis or he was our islanders rate when he was first call right right out so noodles has always been like a a real individual like he you know. He didn't have to go along with the crowd. You know he just Kinda did his own thing but he was always like in the mix right you know. Like he wasn't like he was a loner. He just kind of whatever he wanted needed to do he did it but he was like when he first came up super super focused and intense so he used the when he would start a game now his goal tending partner was Ron Hextall. So I don't know this launch of a help at all but Haxhi by the way love the Guy Awesome Guy. Most intense player. I've ever played with an innovative. Explains the end of Noodles. Run right out and which will get to within. In the conversation on the PODCAST. That explains a lot given the fact that he was mentored by Ron hextall early and so you know he's watching. Xy Get prepared for a game and like at one point. The trainer comes to me and he says Hey Ray you've known Xia long time and I said Yeah and he said could you get him to move his stick were he puts it in the locker room? Because the door won't close and I said well why don't you tell them and they're like oh I'm not gonNa tell them now so they were scared so I'm like can you move your stick? He's like why do I gotta move? Stick I go because the door won't close and he said Oh. Okay then you move. The set. Anyways for noodles so noodles is watching this intensity he would sit in his stall when he had a start and his pads he put them directly in front of them and they'd sit back to back. Standing up right. Gloves would be on either side. I sat across the room so myself Derek King and Pat. Flatley would would watch and we'd be like man. She hasn't moved in five minutes like not that. I don't even know what he could possibly be thinking about. So one day noodles gets up to go to the bathroom and I and I I got to see if he really knows where these pads are so I went over and I moved pads. I Dunno six inches one way or the other and then we all sat down to watch and noodles. Came sat down set sat there for not five seconds. Got Up and move the pads back to where they were supposed to like. He was super intense but man. What a what a really good team mate. Like I think the backup goalie position is way more difficult than Al- Alaska's ever thought it would be right so like just go in and you play in your practice. Yeah you gotta stay out and take extra shots but we'd get pissed at the backup goalie if the guy wouldn't try right. Yeah you know in like noodles would be out there. He battled and battled and that's why he played fourteen years. Yeah because I WANNA a starter. Went Down Noodles. Take the ball for a month and run with it. Yeah and then he went to Minnesota. And kinda Dow was sweet. Spot for him. I think that really prolong this career. But in the middle of it as he touched on really briefly he was twenty. Five years old meningitis. Yeah Yeah like He. It was a really really serious time for him and his career may have been over. He ended up winning the masterton the next year for for coming back And performing as did incredibly hard worker. But he's also as I said he's kind of like forrest. Gump like he just keeps shoring up in these places all over the place and he's got the best stories he really does live lack a box. It is now is was noodles one of those guys when he started game. I'm always amused. And then you know you played with players who are in a zone right and so the the national anthem is going on. It seems more in today's where the goal is connor. Held by the Winnipeg jets comes to mind right and he is in his own and his eyes are like rotating hit me his Ad- as he's going through multiple scenarios of how he wants this game to start or whatever he's thinking I don't know but was noodles like that to start the game. I mean that was that part of his his routine and his intensity honestly from the time he was staring at his pads in the locker. Room like you you just. He didn't say anything he was just in his own world. Go play and I think lots of goalies are light. More more goalies are like that than not right. You know and like I played with Freddie Brathwaite in Saint Louis. Nobody started getting dressed later for the game. Then Freddy I might have this wrong but I think Freddie would get dressed in eight minutes. Wow so he's starting goalie. Everybody's getting ready and I don't know where the hell Freddie is raising. In the meantime I have no idea. I'm trying to get ready. And then all of a sudden Freddie would come in and boom ready you let school guys and you're like Whoa so like there would be to real extremes. There's there's guys in the middle of it. I guess but man most of them were really quiet and really focused like noodles and during the anthem like they're in their own world now because on the bench most of the time what the only conversation is during the anthem as hurry up. This guy thinks he's at a concert moving along would you? You had to have been a stick guy not to derail the conversation away from noodles but noodles will join us and we'll get into the gory details of his career. But you're back in the day and you've talked about this where the two-piece stick. Was this crazy weapon. That just been introduced But were you. You know you had the blow torch out there and were you just working that thing on a minute by minute basis and I was really pretty finicky as you imagine shocking. Yeah I Couple of stories on this so I had my curves like that's when the blades were wooden. So Drake's we were as you know. You're torturing them up and manipulating them. I like my curves to be Melik. Everybody wanted to be the same so you torture them. And then you put them in an ice bucket so the curve hole so one day. We're in Pittsburgh. I'm with Los Angeles. I'm thirty years old at this time. And the guys decide they want to screw around with me so every time I go curve's thick I put it in the ice bucket. I come back into the back room and the guys had moved one time. The bought into the stick was in another time. They had taped it up to the pipe. The drainage pipes on the roof and other. I don't know where the third one went so finally I just snapped and I broke all three of them and I guess when I left. The room just erupted the guys. It was the best time made have. Do you have any idea who actually did it or were they taking turns I think this was a collaborative effort l. I share way too. Many people have been way too good a time at this so one day I go in and so you know like same thing as guys that are. The goal is didn't talk or did talk. Everybody was different if sitting next Luc. Robitaille Luke comes in you know Guy. Score six hundred goals in his career. His curved his stick. There's literally still flames on the plane. He comes in and he sticks it in. He always had a little ice bucket beside him. He sticks it in the bucket so the things almost on fire and it takes so tape and he tapes it up really fast. And there's like big like half inch gaps inch gaps between the teeth on you crazy i. I'm appalled by so I go to go. Hey lucky look at the gaps in the tape on your stick and he goes. It's a big little man. It's like you know he didn't care I'm over there and I'm not even kidding drake's when I wrapped my stick. The width of the gap of of the overlap. Had the same the entire way up the stick. Yeah took me forever to take my stick and some guys. They just didn't care enough so sour. When the edge of the tape would fray. You started halfway through. You gotTA start again. Oh Yeah you cannot save enough. That's tremendous all right. See we we're we're we're like eight minutes nine minutes into the podcast and derailed at seventeen times but it's good storytelling. How was your weekend? What would you in Cami and the kids get around to doing? Not Watch but we have rain this weekend. So that became a Chalon Jr. Okay well because we couldn't get home soon here now like we couldn't even get out into the backyard. Which is when I say get out. That's where we go and your boys Riley. And Reese rat an age where they're scrapping and it starting to matter isn't it. Yeah well now. The problem and Riley has his figured out the thirteen year. Old has figured out a couple of words that for whatever reason trigger reese so he'll just walk around the house saying them. Yeah and then reese. Reece's response is to since since there there it's on and so but today's date so today's Monday the thirty S. It's the end of spring break in school in busy okay. School starts today Homeschool or I'm sure this is going to go. Great Cam plan. I'm just I'm like the you're the letters I'm the teacher you can run the phys Ed Department. I actually we both want to run the phys Ed Department. It's the math department. We're having a little trouble with now. I'm thinking and my brother used to do this to me. And it would piss me off to no end and it still does if I like at some point. Even though I'm in my fifties it'll cost me whatever. Remainder of my career is left some when people flick you in the year. If you've ever used to ride the school bus right and the big donkey's behind me. The high school guys I want I wouldn't say beat up. I was GONNA say beat them up. I didn't really. I punched him in the face. I was like great eight. This guy was in grade twelve. And he was flicking me in the ear sitting behind me flicking me in the air. I turned off into cracked him but that would be an awesome way to discipline our kids because he can't you know you can't spank do any of the nonsense that we used to have happened to us. You Know Your Dad would probably give the back end on occasion. Dad's move what rights he'd reached for his belt. And you go. You want me to take this off. Never did he take off all he had to do. Put his hand on his way man. It was like church in there. We're all four much just stopped off. What am I once? I once got the leather strap in school where the school it was mcnutt Saskatchewan. It was tiny little local community. School I gotta think of the principles name. He was a scary dude Oh boy it'll come to me doesn't matter anyway. Did something stupid shocking. I know and called me into his office. And and you know the older kids would would would threaten a be careful you know. He brings out the scrap. It's not funny and I just thought. Oh there nobody gets the strap. It's just that so I knew I was on me and Melvin Fat Tagger or these made up name name Mel Matza Name. What's the nuts capital obsessed catch? What was not make NAS catoon?.

"From mutual partnership with Tsn. Welcome to Episode Twenty Three of the Ray and Greg's hockey podcast obviously different look to the podcast top headlines week to week we'll see how much news non. Kovin nineteen there is between the benches. Maybe we'll slide in a second interview into the podcast as things come up week to week. Ray Ferraro joining us from Vancouver and we had an interesting discussion which we recorded earlier with Jamie Baker. And we're going to get to that momentarily here ray but it's It's it's just kind of tit for tat isn't weird. Wendel Clark on an episode twenty two Wendell by the way was fantastic. Not that we should be surprised by the great stories. Genuine human being human being typical Wendell but he did tell the story of Jamie Baker which encourage us to get bakes on and not too much away before we get to the interview but man was he good in terms of the storytelling and verifying the experience that he had with Wendell back in the day in that series with the San Jose. Sharks while you. I think what people are GonNa find out they They're going to get a glimpse of what it's like to be a pain in the ass to play against in the NHL. Certainly at that time. Because I I think everybody has this idea of what it's like but man Back in the day at one official you could get away with a lot more and it was. It was not pretty sometimes and BAKES BASE. Goes through that pretty good well. He's a color analyst for the San Jose Sharks so he's not a man short on words But I always love when you have either former teammates of yourself or guys that you played against Jamie Baker included you know. Just how how they're capable of telling and recalling the stories is what makes it so terrific and I hope that if today's Nhl player the young guys especially want to take anything away from their experiences. It's that you know that you live in the moment. And then when the time is right GAGA SEWER. Anybody throw anybody under the bus. But don't be afraid to share that personality and tell those stories wall I I would say seemed like now. Maybe I'm wrong because I don't play anymore but it seemed like the the game was everything to more of us like now guys there they can get diverted a little bit. They can have more distraction. There's like nobody in our day thought of their brand right just a player and so like you this stuff you can and I'm sure these guys will remember to it. It's your life so you remember detail. Yeah some of this stuff like what Wendell remembered of course was not what Jamie remembered. 'cause Jamie remembered from when it really started. And when you when you're scared to ask like Jamie was oh you remember. Remember all right. Maybe that's a great. It's great stuff it really is. It really is and Jamie Baker part of episode twenty three. It's Wednesday recorded So if you haven't heard episode twenty two with one will Clark you should listen to it because they'll tell that story and then this brings it full circle with With Jamie Baker. So thanks Jamie for joining us. And we've got a Jamie McLennan noodles of overdrive coming up next podcast or tool. See how things work out. Nbc Analysts Keys Jones who joins us on occasion on tsn Philadelphia caller analysts does morning radio there. I mean talk about a Jones e of all trades while that's our Jones e. That's Keith Jones. A we'll talk to him in the episodes moving forward as well and look. The National Hockey League of the players. Association are cutting loose some of the players. And what I mean by that is in the days ahead. You are going to have conference calls with key. Nhl Players Board try and connect with as many players as we can in future additions of the raindrops hockey. Podcast as well ray throat punch. I don't know I mean week to week. I think we'll we'll handle that as appropriate. I mean there's no end to the list of people who aren't practicing physical Distancing and all that's going on and into this that we can nominate but it feels like that has to be something that that is organic and develops episode by episode. Is that fair? Because they'll always be somebody that becomes a bigger jackass than the week before right. You know like I'm I just. I'm amazed really like you know by what some people are. Viewing this as still even as the United States skyrockets in cases and unfortunately in death that the people are saying. Oh Yeah it's just you know I don't really worry about it. It's it's just the flu. It's like men were not even anywhere near a peak yet yet for some people. It still doesn't really quite resonate man. I want to get the hell out of my house off. Cami wants me to get the hell out of this show by the way I get. I get a wish. Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife Today is her birthday. We You know big plans to take her out for dinner and While that's not happening she's GonNa have to cook dinner because nobody else knows how to use the kitchen a law but we did reese and Riley and I were made her breakfast in brought it up to her in bed and I'm extremely lucky guy. So I take it you throw in the toaster that type of Bracknell Couple of poached eggs baked beans or baked beans black beans Spinach cucumbers avocado so healthy. And not at all surprising. Yeah and so She Yes we we she. I think she was actually surprised. That the the three of us actually that I got them off their video games. Okay fifteen minutes to to do this but it was Yeah so it's her birthday today and Happy Birthday to cam a happy birthday Takami absolutely You know we all have our own way of coping and I. I always try and lean on the lighter side of things unless I'm doing my real job. And then of course you've gotta look at the the harsher side of the sport But from my own family perspective and I don't know if your family looks at it this way so Holly Sisters. All three of them were nurses at varying points of their life. Two of them's DELARE. One is retired but they always seem to cope with anything that comes down to illness or disease or the flu any of that with alcohol. And they've got these medicinal remedies right. So God rest his soul my father-in-law who died in ninety two as healthy as a horse dropped dead gone to meet his buddies for coffee. I mean you can't go in a better fashion than he did. But for every year or for every day for probably the last thirty years of his life he would take two spoonfuls of GIN and Golden Raisins. That had been mixed in a in Mason Jar and I mean it's his booze is what it is but I always thought and he started on what's for it's an anti inflammatory and it helps with my arthritis and all of that. I mean this guy was a strong ox is an old farm guy right strong Xanax. And so I'm watching Dr Oz Juande Ray and Dr Oz. I think that's what his name isn't it. Is there a doctor? It's not a hard one to remember. I WANNA say Dr. Oh I wasn't sure that anyway. That's a different doctor. He brought this up. And there's actually medicinal proof that the Jenin raisins works so I started it and I couldn't. I couldn't go more than a week because they're like crunching on eyeballs. You know because the raisins plump up from the Jin in it's it's it's just off putting the texture of it all anyway. That's an aside so my my sister-in-law. Judy reaches out and says it was either or Holly Sister Lynn. Who Says Oh by the way amaretto is is excellent for combating any sort of flu virus that so when the all things a bit haywire technically today go into the kitchen and I see too big jugs of amaretto kitchen countertop. No but I will. I mean I'm only in it. I mean if if that's what it takes then I'm I don't know if you don't want any sort I would say maybe we just found out. Why the editor you know? Everybody talks about the Mediterranean Diet. Or how the Italian's lips along. Maybe this is it it could be. I'M GONNA fire a couple of ask. Ray and drags anything yet. I'm going on coming up later now. Now no no no we've got to get to Jamie BECO- yeah. I forgot well and then. Because it's prerecorded we'll have a few thoughts and Jamie Baker and then we'll ask a few of the acid rain drags questions anything all right. All right you're leaving this strain so I'm not. I'm doing my best by the way..

"Of their really number one take to be. They just dropping like some lose their. They did this against the Canadians. Yeah and it's early March. Which means a bunch of French Canadians or in town? This is already going to be one of the hottest tickets of the year. You would think that they would do this for a game. That actually needed the attendance boost but not only. Is it an odd choice? Because you don't need the bump in sales. You're going to be doing this in front of a bunch of Montreal. Canadian's fans now Florida Panthers fans. So what was the atmosphere like for the ceremony? I imagine look Roberta Longo. I know it was a dicey situation out in Vancouver but he is a Canadian hockey legend. He's a gold medal winner. You just one of the better. Canadian goalkeepers of his generation so I imagined the Montreal fans were very kind and respectful because number one. They're Canadian. Yeah Yeah and we're both Canadian. He's Canadian and it was half bill but it started getting heavy towards the end wants the wants to. Jersey went up. It was a it was just so now. Gucci's for you but no I was happy but No SMILE FACE. It was nice. Cody was st goals imposed moderator. On that he's the read write goldies. Yeah I know that he is currently but in terms of historically panthers is he the Eric Reed of the panthers. I know Well they started with Jeff Rimer. Who Do you think of right now? If we were making an all-time Panthers team who is the play by play Goldie. I would retire before. Would retire on those. It might be randy. Mola I would ask you know because radio. The radio calls for me. Are the most memorable play-by-play voice in Panthers history for me just because this is very viewing it through like our shows prism draining more because of the goal calls so when I think of like a voice associated with the panthers is probably anymore. Selfishly enough yeah. It's always Jeffrey Dahmer. Then went to day straighter for a couple of years. And then they went to Goldie and on radio rejects McDonald. And then they went to the rainy molar. The Golden Goldies Gang Gold and gold did the Climate Goldie was just. He's one of those guys. This is a testament to like anybody that wants to break into like sort of business like he hung around like he was doing like in arena sport. Updates he he said sites on like being this play-by-play voice and he did like a twenty year. Client to get to where he is and he's actually amazing at it. Looks really good voice for. He's fantastic so it was a classy ceremony. Did they bring in any of like? Roberto's old teammates going to think like yesterday did who was like who McLennan Jamie McLennan was. There was a former Panther. I Don Panthers every year. Who is that? He's more famous for being a flames. Golden not not really yeah. He's very good friends but rebuilt also they brought Roberto's like best friend and nobody knows from like. Where's the David Booth said? Why why haven't we retired the Beezer? He just wasn't long enough short. He's honorees a bit of a controversy. Yeah USA hockey director. Yeah there's a bit of a history of the NBA nf set the word right. The worst word. Yeah so we still honored him though. Well they're like honor. You're going to get here. His his hockey mask is is like in the Panthers Dan in the locker. That's what I call the locker. No there's like a History Jersey of the Miami Matadors. Ahl team or something like that and you see like all the seminal moments in south Florida sports hockey in south Florida hockey history. What do they call that thing The Panthers in a banner. Oh the DEV honor. So man. Beezer had like one of the coolest goalie mask to Downer. Yeah the dentist..

While the rest of Teen Tartus follows and the doctor's companions learn the moon base uses a machine called the gravitons to track and manage weather on earth however members of the international crew led by a real kind of bullyish. The issue Kennedy character named Hobson have begun to collapse under the influence of Dunton. Done an unknown pathogen. This is the major connection to this story practices while International Space Control Quarantines Moon base. The doctor starts to investigate. The Stations Patient Zero their staff Dr Evans dies but in the process rant about a silver hand. I wonder what that could be right. So meanwhile the sick bay feverish orig- Jamie McLennan begins to rant about Phantom Piper figure said to appear to a mccrum before death while attending to Jamie policies a large figure through the door and Hobson the doctor and Ben Arrive to collect Evans Body only to find its disappeared so they leave to investigate investigate where the Piper is now polly meanwhile goes to get Jamie some water and Jimmy wakes up to see the quote Unquote Piper Bert and dancing on him. The Piper enor- Jamie since he doesn't have the disease and he's got something else entirely so He steals another patient. The doctor works out that the neurotrophic virus has been spread throughout infected sugar throughout from the the moon basis. Food stores and a separate men want are using that to kind of destabilize the crew and caused him problems so that they can take over so the the Cyberman recognized the doctor. They reveal that they want to use the grabbed to destroy all life on earth. By altering the weather they end up fighting the The CYBERMAN cyber ship in orbit around the moon and There's a large squad of government advancing on the moon base and and meanwhile the Cyberman that are already on the surface erectus large laser cannon threaten to blow up the base and they fire but the beam is deflected by the Gravitron Avid Tron. So if you're in practice I definitely recommend the moon base very very good cool. That's a story that Dj Nichols expressed interest in in talking at some points. We'll get around to that deal all right. So you've waited long enough to find out what Christine's been up to. Yes we ended on the air. Do we WANNA do a Harley David I or you wanted to Christine. First let's due Christie. Got It so So everybody Sit Back and get some popcorn. Christie is going to talk with us for about a minute or so and then and We'll have our thoughts on this. Hey Charles and Jessie sorry. You haven't heard from me in a while I've been in a kind of unmotivated funk which has been very behind on podcasts. I hope to join you on the podcast again soon. Especially since I got a shiny new microphone for Christmas. However I'm here to call you both out on your rating system mm-hmm I may be a little bitter about being called the Russian judge on the last episode? I was on but see my ratings are based on the rating system you chose. You're just is not using it correctly. You claim to use a scale of one to ten. But in fact you're using an American grade school grading scale when you get a survey asking asking you to rate things on a scale of one to ten. They put the word average above the five but in school grades average is seventy percent or a seven out of ten. I just finished listening to your review of orphan fifty five. I said I was behind. The both of you. used the words average and find tons of times you also both gave it a rating of seven. That is an average on a scale of one to ten. So you see when I give to pertz stolen earth and journey's end a reading eating of seven or maybe it was seven point five. You thought I was calling an average but on a scale of one to ten it is well above average. Here's the thing and guys I've never heard you give a rating below a six ever. You're actually limiting yourself to a five point rating system. Maybe you're afraid of being mean whatever the case you're giving a false impression with your scale and maybe it's time to either use a different scale or start actually using the one you have so everybody hope you enjoyed Christine's for you back. She thought she made some very major. Strong points and Jesse you had some thought. I guess you'd back. So why don't you go first off. I think that's a very Legitimate point she's making and and so here's my justification it an episode. I think almost a bad episode of doctor who especially in the modern error is going to be good. Something has to be really bad for me to give it a five or four or three And and I do think that I tend to do a little bit of the in the sixties of failing grade and I do realize that her point about five being average is good but I think an Average agreed on a doctor who scale so like for example. I did not enjoy the American. Gods last season And so I would have given those episodes three or four. 's His. I just did not think they were even though Neil Gaiman was very involved. I didn't think it was good. I've not seen a doctor who episode that I would rate that poorly so yes I tend to a doctor who episode immediately radiantly modern era starts at six with me and it has to be really bad for me to go below that and there's always something in the episode showed that gets it to a seven or an eight so But I think she's fair. I do think that overall If we go back are episodes my probably least favorite episodes I given is is maybe a six or seven so I think she's fair But I'm comfortable with the role because I grape doc. I grade doctor who had occurred. And so that's it so how about else all right. So so yeah I totally get worked. Christine's coming from she's coming from it from a numerical standpoint where essentially you've got going on a scale they halfway point is five point five essentially right so so that would technically be averaged from a numerical standpoint however this is where I'm kind of going to try to defend our little show a little bit so bear with me The way I kinda see my ratings is like Christine mentioned kind of on a school greats system where seven is essentially a c average rich because essentially if you think about it you know mathematically seven out of ten that's a seventy percent right so that in school cool great system that's a C minus right. So that's kind of in the ballpark asset. Essentially a seven point five would be straight. See Right yeah so so. That's that's the way I approach it and I actually went back. Did some research and guess what we've gone on the show a couple of times below a five five have we. Yes so so Christine. I guess you haven't been listening to all the episodes which episodes I can't. Oh wow so so When we review the Twin Dilemma Colin Baker's first story? I gave it four cat badges out of ten. That's obviously below of a I five and because that's hey that's a horrible story and that's why I get. Yeah now we also talked about sleep. No more from the PETERKA polity era. That was the episode the episode where essentially It was kind of a doctor lite episode. Yeah and where you had the Sandman and you had this this one scientist. The essentially is the focus of the story which I hated that story and I gave that also four at four sleep pods out of ten. Wow so that's two instances right there where we've gone below a six or five so track your ratings. You don't track mine. I don't track your ratings. I probably should but but because I have my again because copious snow's exactly so so I was able to have something to go back to now the now the thing is though if you've noticed we haven't really talked about many bad stories of doctor who We haven't talked say love and monsters which we've kind of mentioned before off and on again is being one of the horrible all stories a doctor who we haven't talked gun fighters even though John Tack is kind of a express some interest in talking about that. Some point Tom Baker's underworld old. Here's a little known fact. Karen Lindsey friend of the show and I were going to talk about that story at one point but we got halfway through it and we realized we can't get through this it's so horrible So we kind of a boarded and started talking about a different episode Time Lash from Colin Baker era of Delta and the Bannerman from Silvester McCoy's era aliens of London World War three from Christopher ECCLESTON. Sarah there's a lot of bad episodes but we haven't really talked about many of them here on the show so therefore In our defense we haven't really had the opportunity to go often below a six except for the couple of times I mentioned so so. That's my take what you will like. I said I thought Christine had some great points but I think she's from different different ideology new miracle allergy as opposed to the kind of grade school average idea ideology that were Approach I should say ideology and I approached it from. Yeah and I think that's actually very good point. Because she's saying that she goes. You guys are record. You are That's how you're grading it and I think that I think subconsciously that is what we're doing so I think that is fine I do think it would be interesting and You've often talked about how much you dislike Love and monsters so I think it would be interesting for us that To do this one record a discussion doing that. Sorry who yes and then we can because To look for things like is there something we could find a better nece in so yeah I think so. I love her feedback. And I think it's it's first off. She cares enough to give us the feedback. Right just makes me smile so much so yeah good stuff and tow Christine. I'm just glad she's listening so I'm staying up. You're listening to this one as well absolutely and Thank you for the back we really we do appreciate it. I'm not gonNA take it personally. I just I just think we're kind of approaching it from two different standpoints. Yeah and so in. Yeah I think that's it's very fair all right all right So with that Let's talk about We've got a couple of other feedbacks so so do you. Do you WanNa read hollies always an IRA. Dave I want to read hauling because Break in news Tuesday night. This league. Holly Mac is joining me onset. Listrik Bruce We are discussing John Mellencamp and of course Bruce Springsteen so I am so thrilled old that are in as Charles sees. I'm doing my fingers together. My Ida my worlds are colliding lighting. I'm very happy so Hey Charles and Jessie that's US interesting episode. The whole thing with astronaut Adam was interesting for a minute at the beginning of the episode. I thought either Yaser gram whereas going to pull out some psychic paper to show. They were top secret agents of some sort. The pathogen that gave that Adam was infected with looks very nasty. I was beginning to like Sukey in the doctor's right. She is a sucker for scientists. Jake helping pilot one of the ships. I didn't see coming to help with the antidote very glad. The doctor is able to save Jake. The previews abused for next week's episode. Looks very interesting I agree with you. There looks very creepy. And I'll wrap it up here. Holly from Wisconsin as always holly thank you so much and I am so excited that I'm talking to you Tuesday night. Yes that's awesome and I'm glad you're doing that. Holly thank you so much for writing in as always and and you kind of reminded me of something. I wanted to talk about With with the Doctor Saving Jake at the end now some fans of kind of expressed a some. You know a a little puzzlement at that because they're kinda wondering why the doctor wasn't able to save address when with by using using the tortoise to rescue him from an exploding spaceship in the Peter. Davison story Earth Shock. Well as Peter Davison Fan I would like to point out that the reason I think the difference is is that if you watch earth shock you probably remember that the Cyberman got inside aside the hardest console room and Regardless of the doctor claiming that there was a state of temporal. Grace where weapons couldn't fire fire inside the Tartus They opened fire and actually shot up the hardest console. So I'd like to put out the argument that the the difference is that because the Cyberman shot up the charts console. That's why the doctor was not able to go back and save attic time.

"And she goes okay. You're good. I played that night. The next night was two nights later. Oh yeah while. The hospital skipped one day and then played the next night. And here's Chris pronger just two nights ago. Oh assist stunned. Audience here in Detroit. As a ninety seven mile an hour slapshot hit him in the chest and collapsed to the ground his heart skip Debbie and folks. When when that happens it's called Komo Xio Cordis and boy? was that a frightening moment dude. So you've been through hell and the with the eye thing in the concussions and cushions because the thing is a separate thing. Yeah I remember going to see you after game I remember. I'm not GonNa say this guy because he's an owner of one of the he's now the GM of don't say his name GM of one of the the NHL teams. ATM's now the ATM card. I remember being in there and just it was just chaos people laugh and joke and it seems like today more people players are more serious. Because I'm I'm friends with some guys. I don't really go to ten hockey games but I remember for instance the blues going into Locker Metro. Yeah fucking down. No one gives a shit come down there. And it's like Rudy Poe check and it's like the old guys and prove to me God bless a man that was fucking horrible Sierra he he he was a tremendous player. He's from Russia Slovakia Latvia Slovakia at one of the best players in the Blues Right. He was at score and he just. He was playing in overseas in his plane crash and he died like what five years ago just a travesty. Back nine years ago man but I I just remember the lock from just filled with joy and fun and life and I guess that that's probably hard there are there are they had ice all of your body. I'm not kidding I was so uncomfortable. You had like Ryan. I'm not talking just like ice. Pack Act like US pussies like wearing are neck and neck. I've had some surgeries. These guys were like they had these these cold things. They called the cold. Dips the tubs coal tubs. They just sitting there for like fifteen twenty minutes on ice ice wrapped around each body part every game game every game. Did you hate that. You get used to it routines maintenance. Yeah I all. I put ice bags on both my knees every day. Even when you're not playing no well practice. Every day. I heat them up every day and cool him down every day. Did you ever You like Quenneville right yeah. He was great. Great coach went on to win with the Blackhawks By the way how happy were you of course I remember talking to you but when the blues finally won it I I mean you wish you were on the ice then but you scrape for the city crazy. Two years two years fifty two year. Yeah it was an emotional day. Yeah it was It it was just great to see a Lotta Lotta longtime fans lot. A lot of great people love. There's still a lot of great people come through the organizational that that are still part of I and and I think just to see the baseball city. It's you know. Obviously the rams left just the IMO the emotion and and you know what to see the city show as well as it did after winning. Nobody burned anything. Nobody fucking trashed anything. Everybody just got drunk. That's it had a great time right. Hey we played in this The Alami just Inducted to the hall of fame couple of years ago three years ago Four years ago four years ago inducted into the hall of fame congrats. My Frank you fucking Bryant. We played in the it was an all star. Game is a legends game before the all-star game has me when a bunch I was so honored to be able to play playing. This is like Dennis top one hundred top one hundred s and I got to play in that and You you're okay you're okay. Yeah Yeah but you know. It's funny as Bieber was in the locker room with me. And he's like hey man urine small Mike. Yeah Yeah. How's how's a girl Kristen Croup? Yeah Lama. Yeah she's really pretty. I was like I got to kiss her. He's like Oh yeah good so let me ask you. This is I want to really okay before you played. Were you like fucking Justin Bieber fucking little tour. I don't like the smoking kid hid or were you like in different care and then afterward gentleman more respect for him what was it No I didn't really care one way or the other. I was just having fun and he was out there trying underscore goal so we were like fuck that. He's not going here really wanted score badly he key and by the way the fuck never pass no because he wanted to score so pest all the guys on the on the on the on the on the bench. I was playing with like the best. What's his name from the oilers? David mcdaid is Jesus. He's the nicest guy he doesn't say a fucking word he's like hand and I haven't seen that guy pass the puck once but it was great Gretzky. Coaching US amused coaching your team. I mean it was a tree that was were you always the last time. I had a pair of skates on. Was it painful for you. Know the JEB. Any kind of pain or no. It was fun. 'cause I the only reason I played was three weeks before that I played alumni winter classic in Saint Louis but now you done done what playing be done playing. I've if I haven't put my shit on central Juju this be honest if I booked the ice next time you come in town just mean you maybe a goalie and just go out there and pass around shoot not a fucking chance. Why because 'cause I don't skate it hurts? My knees. Like bad. Their bone on bone and angle with the skates fix that. Yeah I can get new knees once you get new knees and then we'll play then I'll be able to escape. Let me go endure that so I can listen. I got a little surprise for you. I asked a couple of guys it was last last minute but had a couple of guys call so we can always edit this. But let's just see what Let's see what Jamie McLennan has to say. All right the a message for Chris pronger. This is your million dollar bartender. Calling Jamie McLennan AKA noodles. I heard a vicious rumor that you're talking to Rosie. Listen I just had a couple of questions. I don't know how far you're going to let everyone peak. Ah but I wonder if he should tell the story of a US getting no sleep and then you showing up at that breakfast onto for about five five hundred. People can't wear a lot of sponsors. The people in Saint Louis US and I slept for forty minutes. And I don't even know if you slept it all Chris but my cable had nobody there so I could just pass out and sit there you. Unfortunately we had to being the captain you had to make a speech. And at one point I looked over yet. A couple of kids in headlock roughing the box. Maybe we'll talk talk about that. How that story Not Too many questions for you. But if you're not nice to me maybe Al Gore on Rosie's podcast and tell a bunch of stories. You're like man Chris when you're sleeping later all right. So that's Jamie Clinton. He was the backup goalie who was a good goalie. He was my million dollar bartender. What does that mean? He was paid a million dollars as salary and essentially he was my bartender. That was his job and he's got his job was to we. You know we'd go load obviously a lot and At the odd one. Oh Yeah and he would be my bartender. I imagine you on the bench Chirpin at your team that your own players. What the fuck was that right in the front? You Miss that you that guy at times did you guys my fucking fault. That was my bad. My Bay not often though any guys didn't like you eat them like me or they have to learn the like. You didn't have a choice. They must like you know. Oh I think some. They didn't like practicing against me early on was not very nice to practice against a little rough in practice. I listen to folks is another mommy to tell that story or do you want me to what store the store when you're hammer when you're going to the yeah. Do you want me to tell that story. Go ahead all right so we went out a couple couple of other by the bodies from La. Come into Saint Louis so we take show him the town right so we take him out. We have a six. Am Breakfast with the blues and we got home from from the bar at five thirty and apparently he went to sleep. I just was like well. Fuck I better not. I won't wake up so I put my Sudan. Brush my teeth boom out the door get over to this breakfast. I'm sitting with the team president and you probably alcohol had to have just reeked sitting with a couple of major sponsors. I'm still crushed and now I gotTa make a speech. I've talking Organiz kids. I got these kids I'm taking pictures and signing autographs. Having a good time noodles is just staring at me. Like how the fuck is this guy doing this and I'm just hey. Hey you got my game. Face we leave to go to practice. We go to practice now. We're still cut. I get to practice and Joel's like hey. Are you okay to practice. Oh we had we. We had to do power play. We had to get there early. Because we're working on the power play and noodles had to be the fucking goalie as a backup. You had to be the guy. That shooter tune Rome. Oh my God guess how. Many poxy stopped zero. Zero fucking saves. Joe There's no so afterwards or moving the puck round or whatever and then afterwards newest skating around jaw comes up it goes holy. Fuck Tuck Boys. That must have been a good one last night. Guys okay to practice like our good. We'll get by a jet a game that night. No Oh God no no no. We didn't play for a few days. I think just the hammer and by the way. Another one with noodles. I won and So in my contract this is when you could do this. I had a bonus for winning the plus minus award. What means if he is so guys out there if he's he's let in more goals than he hasn't so he's a negative more goals on if it's a positive when you're on the ice?.

"There's there's two of you too you too and I mean did you. Your parents seemed like they were good. Folks looks right. Yeah did they let you get away with murder. That's what I'm guessing pretty much. Yeah my nickname growing up chaos. That's it that's it. Every day. Every day we either played road. Hockey played hockey in the basement. Played Out on the outdoor rank or were practicing singer playing down at the rink. What else is there to dirty much? Everyday what else is there on the summertime. Then we'd go swimming and golf golf to lot Just kind of fucked around like stupid kids and did you know what we were allowed to be kids back. Then that's the beauty of it. They just said you. You know I'd leave and I'd come home at five and God knows what I was doing. Your parents never worried. He's GonNa Take Care of himself. His brother's watching him. Where are you gonNA goats? That'll guide and what are you. What are you gonNA go? What are you GONNA do? That's true in life on an ice fishing hole or something. There was ice fishing. There ain't great ice Fisher. He's you still go ice fishing there. No why not to you. Got To go for Dryden because you used to want to do that. Yeah I love it I I love it. I go snow machining new all that fun stuff. It's great so you off now too soft your parents so they let you go now. Jim was a drinker right. Not Really No. He wasn't because I always remember one story about Your Dad. The story of the olive oil was his buddy. That was done. That wasn't handled. Oh that was dawn. Remember we were at dinner. Go ahead all right Grad dinner Local Italian joint and Clayton where I lived lived and Munira Dinner With my dad and his friend on Don's crushed from this after a game crushed and and he keeps trying to grab drink but really. It's the bottle of olive oil for the prayed. And I keep pushing the Waco done no and he keeps coming in and I put you to good done no. I moved to a different part of the table. And then me and you start talking and I kind of forget about him and sure enough. I look over. And he's chugging again this olive oil. I'm like Oh my God what do I never forgot obviously did forget and by the way that night he got up at like four in the morning to take shit and broke the toilet and somehow figured out a way to turn the water off off the toilet for me. I don't know if he like dropped down on it or lean back too hard the toilet I can broke and he had the wits about him to turn the water off the bottom. Did your you and your dad ever get into any kind of altercations going. I noticed that you're a hockey player. Shawn's hockey player. Dad's a big guy. He's like like you. Did you ever get into things where you're like you because I know you I know you have your hotheads. Sometimes things done your way whether you're playing or whether you're control freak like me me at times you like things your way did ever Kirti like you stepped over the line. You'll see. Yeah fuck that. I'm not. I know that happened. I want you to tell me a story stories. You recall were you in Jimbo got into e only got mad at me twice like where he was pissed where I was like. Oh Fuck I'm dead. How old were you I it was fourteen. Maybe what happened. How tall are you it for? I was six one maybe sixties thought. I'm cool I just know I was. I can't remember what I did. But he was pissed and he came fire and home and was like can sat me down as I ever. We WanNa fuck and see who do that. In first time for me to really was so mad. Were you scared. I was like Holy Shit. I'm fucking dead here. I got up when I stood around behind the coach so I could get out of the way. Holy Shit. He's pissed but never like a smack DAB. No my mom was usually the disciplinarian. She'd spank thank you. She would spank me and hit me with the wooden spoon when I was eight I clinched the Bill Belichick and they're spoon broke and I turn around and laugh out and that was the end of that. I'm doing squats GONNA work. No more than fact. Oh no I mean but you're already like a strong kid. I mean you grew so fast. Did you know you're going to do something that you know. Now you know what I always tell people they don't you know super small town middle of the nowhere. No Internet no frigging nothing. You don't even know like I used to get the hockey digest and the hockey news once a week. That's the only hockey information should I had. We only got hockey night in Canada. One night a week on Saturdays there was no other hockey games on TV. So that's it. That's why roadside. We're outside every day. So that's why and how do you make it to the NHL any other country well but that's changing that I think Canada's like forty five percent of the league now what does a slow ocoee or some Shit No. US The US is. I think twenty five percent that it's the it's skiing Taylor. Yeah shifting. The tides are shifting tides Really all you could do go outside and play and play hockey and do whatever needed but do you think about it. I mean routes. You're outside you're being a kid you're outside you're screwing around with your friends. I think we had a close knit group of friends. Who Whom you've met that we all lived? You know you're not like you're living too far anywhere in town but we all live fairly the close we all congregated. Your parents knew where they knew who you were with in on there. They were friends with their parents. Right so you know it was all it was easy lizzy growing up but I never had any information on anybody that my age that played down in Toronto or played out in Vancouver Calgary or any the bit Montreal any of the big cities. I know who they were or I didn't know anybody and then I went to a camp down in I think it was G- wealth where off off growth. That's an Tarot. It's about an hour and a half from Toronto and really just started to see these kids. I didn't know Oh how good I was. I didn't know you you don't really know you play in the local tournaments parts we go is Winnipeg you play against some kids but you don't really no but did anybody go that pronger kit. You know the giants. I was always from my age group. I was always a better best kid on the team You know I played up a little bit. You know I was one of the kids I think being tall you have that allure or that aura of well he's big. I was skin and bones owns but I was tall always tough I mean I liked altercation. No I mean I fought a little bit but I didn't. I thought when I needed to fight all the time I didn't I was playing so much that it's tiring and nobody wants wrassling around around Tiaret right. Anybody did when you were younger. Did people even picked fights with you. They're gonNA take the guy down Yeah sometimes did you ever taken down you got to pick like your battles you know. That's a smart player will always pick his battles one of the things that I know the best I know I know who's on the ice at all times. I know who's coming on the ice. I know who's leaving the ice. I know matchups. I know who's behind you is around. I know everything I know everything. That's going on something that was just natural to you or did you really have to learn that. Because that's multitask as right. I mean it's sense. It's it's awareness. You know some of its hockey sent some of its awareness. And knowing what's going on around you a street smarts all that shit plays into it I think But I think just always knowing and understanding your role understanding your matchup understanding what you have to do to be successful. What you gotTa do to win? I just wanted to win right. And there's some hurt feelings at times where you would. I just want to win prior when your kid. It seems to me like you like. There's those kids that are so full full of anger and so full of emotion that something didn't happen you go back and you start crying and not at a young. I would fly off the handle I would. I don't know if I cried a ton you break your stick throws shit. Oh Yeah I got boy faulk. Yeah I remember you playing hockey with you I think it was you and Jack Your Little Jack. Yeah we have the same birthday you am him. Al McGinnis and myself McGinnis one of the best slapshots ever in hockey. If you want to look him up Google but I remember we were just taking some soft off shots on goal. He was playing goalie. And if you let a fucking going to go look at don't fuck and scoring them. Remember that's going to happen. I mean he's a big one now too long is Six seven. He's six foot seven Jack and he's obviously what we're playing. He's playing basketball. He just said no to hockey He was playing and then he was good. He was all right and then he just kept growing. You know it's it's awkward and he's playing high school hockey. No He's not playing hockey at all or none of asking ball yeah. He's playing high school basketball. So as George and George Georgia's sixteen now Schwarzer's I turn. You might do Lila Lila. You're fucking up every name are you. It's hard with those names She's probably five feet Doing her art and tennis and she's easy so the bunch she's an old soul. It's nice to get we're GONNA get to all the dirt and stuff because you talk about growing up shit this jitter now dirt when I say dirt. It's just like you know people like I wrote some shit down like I I know. Oh you so to speak pronounce your mom's fucking name so we're sorta because we really hung out along a lot and then and and then you got famous no no. That's not true. But I was in Vancouver. Ten muncie for seven years but then you got married obviously and you had a family and you sort of playing and things started changing the teams were planning for your plane from the bill wasn't necessarily a lose of the other to the Anaheim ducks to the flyers liars. Some would say to the coyotes really. I mean that was true. I mean you look Boehner civil rights but I was always like man. I do miss those times. The problems I do. Miss those times with McClennan was the the coach. Joe McLennan no Joel Quenneville Glenville L.. Jamie McLennan you are having a tough goal right now. We'll edit that out. Let's start again. Joel Quenneville right is your coat. Here's a look if they're not a hockey Ben Lag. Odd Awed McLennan is. He's a great coach. I love Quenneville. I remember Quenneville seeing me. Come to your some of your games on the road or whatever and he'd see me show up to the like you know we go back to the hotel because we're GONNA go out..

"Huh. And now we'd like to welcome a very special guest to the show He's a hockey writer at Sport Express in a cage. LTV sideline reporter Eagle Aramco. Thanks so much for joining us. How you doing today? I'm fine. Thanks of that. You told me that you can cause me I'm Invited to show thanks for joining us And and we're going to start off with just asking Was Nazarov being serious. Did did he send guys over here. They get me in big business or was that somewhat tonneins tongue in cheek. No joking Actually I told today I stopped him that I am I. We will be on the show and maybe wanted to San Diego. The methods she said now I I don't want to be I don't have to be a story so she At the moment she doesn't want to be a guest star on your show as well but he enjo- can go sad that she would appreciate a fight on the ice against school if she ends a and eupol still lives play. The she's a coach. Now you know the she would. She would probably smoke me at this point because I've kind of adapted to the broadcaster body body why why are you like you said she. It's a he. Oh I thought he said it was a woman said Nazar wants to go. You ought excuse me that I was looking at me like I had three said when I was I said she uh-huh on but no no listen. This can't get lost in interpretation. That was not a joke. I just misheard okay so this could all spiral out of control all right from my understanding. He's a big fella. He fought some pretty tough customers in the NHL lesson. We come on the spitting Chiklis podcast asked to tell stories about. Russia will not me because I haven't experienced it firsthand other than that gold medal. I won for the under eighteen team. not a big deal but the things happen differently over in Russia and and some things that happened like for instance guys going over there and maybe not getting paid when they said they were going to get paid. Okay maybe maybe Situations where the team's not playing well the owner decides to come in the locker room with a machine gun and threaten the players with their lives. I mean this is stuff that doesn't happen over here which people people when we tell these stories their jaws drop but ultimately were just like. It's it's kind of funny to us. It's it's crazy that's happening watch The time has changed. And the here you want You won't meet him an owner. Who Do like that at the moment? so Sherve bully giving has become a more and more professional all the guys who come to the show. They usually retired. They played in drop ship some five years ago maybe seventy years. Maybe even ten years ago like Jamie McLennan. who was the guest on the show? She played bouts twelve years ago. Here and that's what the difference Momento our legal for Russia. Now a lot of things have changed a lot of Things do that to your guest. Say at the show They slide by our players play sheer or some Russian players that play in the NHL for example Hell surrogate serve you know from I wasn't Stockholm last week to where Tampa played buffalo. We talked to him and he was quite disappointed with what's Jim Staples and sad off on news the cops because she's hometown And it Kinda insulted teammates because he was a fan of for Stapleton that she he was All the time at the Games of masochistic he said he had a lot of fans I might if I can hop in there. I mean what. What does that have to do? Do with him personally. I mean he just wasn't a fan of the town and maybe some of the things that had happened to him. Personally I mean like I. Is that the one where they were bragging about. Having the Burger King as one of the one of the city's best attractions. I mean. Now going back to what you said. It's nice to see that they've changed their way of thinking on certain social issues and and guys are now getting paid and things are a lot more professional. Now I mean I can think though of a few stories just off the top of my head that have happened in fairly recent memory like who who is the team and playoffs a few years ago when it was a big year for them and it was pretty obvious that the League wanted them to win the championship and the first round of the playoffs ended up playing. I I believe the series ended up going to seven games and then game seven there was like twenty penalties called team who they didn't want to win now is that type of corruption now gone on and how many years ago was that and maybe you can clarify that whole story for me You know what's even two years ago. We had some I'd say some kind of flop size that Officiating in the sky. It The pastor but you know when you watch the game you you feel that officials Just try to not make mistake against a team. I mean it's it seem from Sanford Burke Now it has the age because you know now we have Have More Oh for Kinda reach teams. That's have some Also power that's have an influence on officiating and it has become. I'm better well. That's very good to hear I. I just think that were with us. We have guys that come from a completely different culture and and when you get over there and you see some of the things that you never see where where we live you come back and it's funny to to listeners over here and stuff. Now I'm not going to say day that Russian people wouldn't take offense to the stories that are told in the way we're laughing but in the end right it's good fun. I mean guys are still going over there giving it their best rest while they're playing their they're making the league better. Many North Americans so for people to be like disgusted and angry at our podcast. When we talk about funny things that have happened? Who is that would never happen over here? That's just kind of reality so I you know I guess I don't blame people to not like it but in the end it's GonNa make us laugh and another thing think too is like I would assume based off Russia's reaction or the people who have heard this it's kind of like victim mentality where they think they're like they're being bullied and we're making fun of them and laughing. Do you think us joking around about these stories are worse than the fact that the actually happen like the fact that when Tim Stapleton was playing and got injured there and tore his groin and now he's he's in an in a new country where he can't communicate with. Anyone and practices are are very difficult and he's probably really not enjoying himself and on top of that he's got the coach Belittling Little Ingham in the locker room. Basically telling the entire team that he's faking an injury when in fact then he had to play through that injury and got the game winning goal and then they sent them down to the dungeon to ride the bike alone for for whatever fucking reason that this guy dreamt that up where he thought should be alienated from the team so it just like. That's worse than us. Him coming coming on the podcast and joking around about it. Like treating treating a North American that way when you went over there to play hockey is far worse than him just coming on and making light of the situation for you. Don't keep pickling but I mean F for example. Saturdays have no but no one forced deemed to play in Russia Went there to earn some money. Good money and that money would never get in any other league so Would would you have that same. Would you have that same. Energy of surrogate chef came over here to play and then he was being treated like that in in Tampa Bay. I bet you wouldn't. That's I I bet your country wouldn't and I bet you that you guys have a lot to say about it so I think all in all we're doing this podcast is. We're just telling these stories of what guys went through and I feel like they're being spun out of control there where it's like Yo- you guys are kind of treating our guy like shit at the same thing was happening over here year guy you guys would be fucking right and I mean you guys would be sent over spies right. I mean you're doing so anyways It's Kinda funny. Everyone waits for every next step is Odin and to share some stories. I mean here people some of the people of course no English and they tried to listen or a lot of some journalists. They just just They just don't slates up with on that some everyone a little religion and I think that's why you you receive some frappes or being solved in on the Internet on Social Media Listen. We're fine with the threats. As long as nobody's he's acting out on them and there's other things that we laugh about that happened in Russia that like that. It's not because people are rushing. It's just 'cause people like it might have happened in North America like like when the when the guy he was renting the apartment off of you know stapleton came home was able to new came home and he knocked on the door and the guy was living in his apartment while he was on on the road but he just came back like. That's fucking funny that they have nothing to do with Russia. Just happen to be in Russia when it happened but do you believe in all the details. She came up with the every hour. Grow very weird Well what okay. Please give me an example. Oh I don't know with good coming back home and somebody leaves in your apartment. So that's kind of all over so you didn't believe when he told that story he sounded like a I have to trust him. But so you're gonNA belier. Only Gorbachev the Laura let let let's just be like let's be open here you like just if you think he's a liar say he. You'd think he lied about it. I mean you don't tiptoe around. Listen have a a big boy discussion Russian here. No I don't think too. I'd I think she may be. I can get right to the bench while there is either a guy home when he got home and there wasn't and his furniture one movement around by itself unless he lives at luck and beauty and the beast household them. The my guests the guests put see my this L. C. for example Ryan. I still don't believe that you ever maps and smoking nurse. I had never seen a smoking nurse. I in my life and all the guys from salty. say that that's unbelievable. Well this and listen when you get a cigarette smoke smoke the right in your face and you giving blood. I'll never forget it so you could say it didn't happen you could say I'm lying but I know exactly what was going down and I also know that part of the jokes were when I walked into that hospital. I was like this does not look like a hospital would look where I'm from. It's very different now. Naturally like all all of you guys in Russia are going to grow up and grow up in something and be like this is. This is normal. This is this is Russia. This is how we live but when somebody comes from seeing different things things and then is just shocked by it and tell stories. It's not like you can really take offense to the fact that the the guys just like make you can't just say he's making things up because when I see things that look normal to you. That are completely banana lance to me. It's going to end up being brought up but now listen I don't I'm not. I'm not saying that. There isn't some exaggeration for what goes on there. But I do know that the the the stories guys come on and tell. Maybe there's some salt and pepper but the crux parts of it is right there. I mean I feel I feel Kinda bad. We're coming on and it seems like we're grilling you but it's more just the fact that people get so upset over there what we're saying being in a sense it's just funny. I mean guy. Do let me ask you when Russians come over here do they. Not Komo come back home and then have some pretty funny things that they think goes on in in America that would never happen in Russia He might Sir Remember. That's GONNA Tal- they'll his as in Toronto Maple leafs. So that's all all the guys in the locker room ask you sir stuff like that happens. the cultural difference would have. What don't you don't remember about story of the time someone You're orgy Gadaffi. Played in Toronto. Maple leafs Last year and he came back he told One journalist APPs everyone is in Maple leafs locker room while the and ask you because he didn't use to Do Not know what word you're saying when you said every guy in the locker room is what ask you absolutely are all old astle. No no no like like kisses coaches as- ask Sir. Yeah sorry. Sorry I always had a seizure there But okay I mean like you are i. I'm not mad at that. Let's change let's change it a little bit little lighter note out who who indicate show that you're covering right now will be the next guy. The next Pinera and that comes over and dominates that a lot of our listeners really have no clue about all of his career you gain so why why is it why is he still..

"Jeff asked the question will be the Rangers goaltender next season. Assuming Shaiken comes over to the NHL in other words, which will be the backup. I gotta believe it's gonna be your give. I mean, he's splitting time now with Hank. I think that has to be the belief that your job is going to be the backup goaltender for Hank. Maybe not the full two years of his contract. But definitely this year. I would say that. And I think if this if the other kids distortion comes over I think he would serve him well to have a year in the American League and get used to, you know, North America. So for me. I mean, that's the way it, you know, just like seemingly commonsense standpoint, it seems like that would work and played very, well, you know, with the exception of a few starts, particularly the one really bad money Carolina. But he's for the most part given the Rangers chance to win on most nights and played very very well. I think the numbers are pretty pretty in line with hundred one quest. So you know, I think that that's the plan for now. And you know, we'll be back, and and you're gonna be the be the backup. And it's just working comes. He'll be in in Hartford Calvin asks what's your favorite hockey autobiography? That's a good question. I mean to me the quintessential hockey book is the game by Ken Dryden. I don't know if you call that an autobiography, but he does give his cat. Yeah. That's like look at the whole season. A three all from what I recall, I read it so long ago and Kennesaw titular. Yeah. Think or so I mean, that's a good one. I guess they had the old, you know, back in the day. Bob my game by Bobby or pay. You know, that was very that was during his his time playing. I think that he wrote that or wrote it with someone. So, you know, those are couple I think the the book that was done on the nineteen eighty Winter Olympic team was really good. I think Wayne coffee did that book. But I'm not a hundred percent. Sure. So but anyway, that was a good book. I enjoyed that. Yeah. There's a bunch of good hockey books. There's there's a book I read a few summers ago about a very underrated team that never gets talked about the seventy two silver medal USA team. I they Mark. How would like yeah. It was like sixteen years old. It was like such the great stories, but first Audubon Fay's, Calvin what I would say is it really depends on how you feel about the particular player. I've read a bunch of them. Doug, Harvey Doug ill. More. I've read Jamie mclennan's book, which I actually thought it was pretty entertaining. So I guess it really just comes down to how much you really care about the player. And if you really like him if he's your favorite that. That was good broder's book. I thought was pretty good. So it's tough to me over the pin. You know, one in particular. I love Doug Gilmour. He was one of my favorite players growing up. So we I devoured his autobiography just a couple of days because I just couldn't wait to to hear the stories especially about the ninety three you know conference. Finally, the Los Angeles Kings Gretzky is a couple of really good autobiographies from Wayne Gretzky, Rick Rick Reilly wrote. Yeah. Auto biography on Wayne like in the nine a couple of good how ones too that was interesting. Yeah. I mean, the bulk I'm referencing by the way was the boys of winter was the Wayne coffee book Bri was Wayne Coffey who wrote it about the nineteen eighty Olympic team. And I think that's one of those deems as you know, an amazing story the miracle on ice. And you know, I almost can't get enough of that even even so it's nearly forty years late at incredible..

"He is one of the more interesting characters that we've seen in the game in the last twenty years, but back to that original point about carbon credits. How tough a sell was that for you in the NHL? I mean that was that's an it's been said before you don't become great until you marry yourself as something greater than yourself. And that's clearly of movement that's greater than anyone individual. But how tough a sell was that as you know here. I am NHL defenseman talking about something significant serious as climate change and pitching carbon neutral in carbon credits for NHL teams surprisingly way easier than I thought it would be that's for sure. I mean, I knew that. I was definitely in the minority. And this was back in the day. I mean, it's not like it's in the news like it is today or with urgency that it is today back, then I mean, you know, give it some thought I met with Davidson. Zouqi few times and talked about it. And did all this stuff at home. You know that you're kinda supposed to do and composting recycling, and you know, credit to him. He pushed me to say like, you know, shame on you. You know, you're in Canada playing hockey you have a chance to stand for something. And if you don't take advantage of that, you know, what a waste and. You know, I don't necessarily agree with hockey players where they should be role model. You know, because I've played with auto guys that probably shouldn't be remodels. But but I think that there's an opportunity role model. So like David suggested, I think it is a shame. If you don't take advantage of that in a positive manner. So we talked about going carbon neutral, adding up all the travel and hotel stays and here's a pretty straightforward process. You know as far as getting it done. So I picked it to a few guys in our team and Jamie McLennan and Steve monitor Drome, mardi, Jalen Rhett, Warrener, Robin Rogier. I think I think I got everybody who's that initial group. They also yet. This sounds like the right thing to do. And I think that's how we approached it. You know, it's it's a good positive thing. And we should do something. It's not the answer the cure all, but it's kind of you know, putting a bit of a flag in the ground saying this is something that we care about the next year. The PA really liked the idea, and we had a few guys reach out to us. And actually some of my. My friends within the PA said, this is a fantastic idea. Here's what we want to do. We just want to do it for everybody. We'll get everybody carbon-neutral, and I actually push back against that. And I'm glad I did. Because I said, you know, the points not really going carbon neutral. It's the kind of the volunteer aspect of it of guys putting their hands up and putting their credit card down saying. Yeah, this is important enough for me to say yes to into opt into and and I thought that that voluntary aspect of signing up to two carbon-neutral was probably the most important part of it because that might trigger something in them to do more down the road or to speak about it..

"Like, you know, nervous out there and get to the bench and nicer, holy, fuck poise on this guy. He's. Head up. That's a fucking player. The man I always to this day is just the guy that made everyone on the team feels so good that you did. You take pride in that was important to you? I don't know. I those this is just a natural thing that I never even saw that I'd just wanted my teammates to do. Make everybody feel welcome. Some parents guide cost a locker environment. They're a little eliminated the young guys, you know, you're around all the veteran players just. Fancher exactly the same way. You know somebody that to keep the the room luth's otherwise, even gone service and Akron offered, but. I really appreciate that and it really that. But you know, I didn't want to see, you know, carve you for having the worst Macher body everything right. Gets to my body. I had an HMO GM reach out to me the other day, asking me about a guy who was like a bubble guy fighter. And yeah, and he, he goes, hey, can you find out what this guy's like in the locker room? This is still heavily asked question like, I, I get that the analytics of taken their course, and you know, you got to have a certain amount of skill level to play, but and I did some research. Yeah. And the consensus was. Yeah, he's that type of guy where he's gonna make everyone feel good. He's gonna keep everyone loose where if it's between that guy and another guy, if even if the other guys a little bit better, but he just brings nothing to the morale of the team. They're going to pick the other guy who's bringing the morale, especially if they don't have enough around. I mean, that's, I mean, the upshot is an example. I mean, I don't know when this interview is going to air, but he's currently on a PTO in Edmonton will Faulk man after season like they had and live in Edmonton. You need a guy like Scotty Upshaw in the locker room, fun. Complain. The tunes make it fun to come the rink every day. Yeah, it's over Lichtman Pange will now because everybody's just so include a numbers game. I, it'd beats, you wonder if there's gonna be a point where they're talking about is this guy's intangibles enough. I take them or we just going to go with the straight analytical numbers like the way it's it's. Locker room glue is becoming, you know is is like he creasing in value, but he always remember the guy who older than either the Lakhan guy like or like, you know, you got the child was Jamie McLennan was the backup goalie. I mean, this guy told he'd have the boy howling you know, there's only like that that guy you remember when you're coming team that that just made everybody laugh at the right time, and you know that that's what the essence of hockey's all done. I feel like it's just didn't want a little bit with all the analytics and all these roads crunching numbers, but it's a huge intangible. I, I, I, it's a cliche thing to say all well, you never played, but it's a psych wall, man. I know what it's like to want to go to bat for guy every night, and you're going to squeeze that extra five percent out of me where you're not gonna get from bringing in another guy in who they could've found out who has shitty personality won't Gela with the team. Sorry, gel. Well. I think business was basically ties right now. We're the. The analytics is a big thing now in in in its I don't wanna go online and have this argument every day where I'm like, yes, I get that. He fucking held the puck like one point more percent more and blah, blah, blah and all these little stats. But it's just like, yeah, but when he gets dealt, their, those guys aren't willing to play with him because he's a fucking loser. And. We're advertised on the other team where he wasn't as playing a bigger role. I think I might have been the worst analytical player in history of their NHL. I think eventuate. Really raise. Got you. Got all the fake. You would have been one of those sneaky like all the nations course. He's unreal like he gets like another two year contract because of his Coursey. Or you just like nice course course by this guy out. Or or thousand eleven and twelve..
