One topic dominates today show and Matty's volume unit being crowned the twenty twenty you eight for champions the winners Kinsey Komen's goal the difference between the two sides I ever player in fact that Champions League final to school against his old Jamie Lee, frank and Craig Burley with me to reflect on the final Craig that wasn't quite as high scoring as we as expected however the best. The best team one and appear she will get CIANCI's the third clearly. Stating the obvious but there were good chances. You'd expect much better protect the MVP chance not long before halftime quite an embarrassing finish. To be honest and I personally think by got macho a first gear. In terms of you know what they can produce. were, able to control the game and when the Champions League yeah. This wasn't quite what we are expecting. Frank. Why not? Well because of clumsiness, some some players and and just mentioned MVP I think I'm not sure that mini. Was the best team overall during the season of chimpanzee. Yes. But then that game I think they were in control of the game but personally, I had some chances to to to surprise him to kill them even and. The fantastic new year in goal I. Think. Could have lead the game in the first half but again, mini chinses wasted by a the strikers and I think Keefe I can regime the game I. Think the defense is the defense is better than the tax which pulls them what we were expensive causality. Wasn't but I think a good example of that was choice at NC. Flake makes in terms of having Komen playing therapeutic. Essentially telling us you know what we think insulin common can dominate one one situation sending doing that we don't need. WE'RE NOT GONNA force funds Davis to get forward down the left hand side because kids can take care that. Finish it cannot do that as well. He talks signed. Davis on the overlapping runs and I think is by design that Afonso Davis did not really have a for dissipation in attack he was holding back almost as if to say, you know what this is our way of not dropping off we're going to maintain our hide line while we're not gonNA take many chances going forward and I think what you saw from by Munich is they played A conservative game with a lot of talented players and bathing. Not WanNa take chances really going forward because the the time that they did take those chances going forward than PSG had opportunities and when we say that PSG had opportunities, we're talking about PTSD team who had the chances fall to the right people. It's too bad is to Neymar is to Maria three clear opportunities in my opinion. In the first half they not take advantage of and from then on it was difficult to see PTSD to get after by Munich particularly after by an escort PSG got disorganized, they were more concerned about the files, the yellow cars, the physicality of the game rather than playing the game a no better example of that that Neymar who in the second half had difficulties trapping the ball passing. The ball doing the basic stock he was busy drawing fouls but not actually having an impact on the game. We

"Welcome to the New Yorker Radio Hour. I'm David Ramnik. Jamie Lee Curtis descends from Hollywood royalty. She's the daughter of Janet Lee and Tony Curtis but if that sort of Hollywood history isn't your thing exactly you still know Jamie. Lee Curtis who shot to fame in the original Halloween com on Halloween night. It's when people play tricks on each other. It's all make believe I was just trying to scare you. I saw the Boogeyman I saw outside the boogeyman can only come out on Halloween right right while I'm here tonight. I'm not about to let anything happen to you. Curtis eventually started playing in comedies. Like trading places says with Eddie Murphy and the weirdly unforgettable. A fish called Wanda set up a guy who is incredibly important to us. There's GonNa tell me where the loot is and if they're going to arrest you and you'll come lopping and like Rambo without a jockstrap and you dangle about a fifth floor window was that smart okay was it. Was it good tactics next. Was it stupid. You don't call me stupid. Her new film is also in the oddly. COMEDIC WJM Curtis is one of the leads in Ryan. Johnson's knives out which is a WHO done it. Comedy filled with references to Agatha Christie and to the Board Game Clue Curtis plays the daughter of the film. They're very very rich and very very dead. Mystery author Mr Block. I know who you are. I read your profile in the New Yorker. I founded delightful. I just buried my eighty five year old father who committed suicide. Why are you here? Jamie Lee Curtis sat down. Recently with the New Yorkers Rachel time do you have a history with whodunnit movies. No I am the anti mystery girl. I'm the anti mystery girl roll. I don't like horror films I know I know I know Venus. Just a cute. There's not a movie that my friends I haven't all said Oh I'm going to go see this movie. And then they look at me and they say but you can't go you know there's this new thing that people do where they read. It's like a whole trend of people who read read the wikipedia for a scary movie before they see it like. This is the way well. I'm going to tell you a secret. Yeah And this was before I became very close with Jodie Jodi foster But I was making my girl in Florida and the makeup man had done silence of the lambs and it was is out in theaters and he wrote me a sheet which I took with me into the theater with a little flashlight and I sat in the back row by myself and it it read when jody goes to the storage locker. Close Your eyes and ears and wait for the second scream only and and so I would look at my little list and I'd be like Oh there she goes to the storage locker and I would cover my ears. Close my eyes curl up in a little ball and sing. Oh Claire De la Luna in my head Okay Luna on them you feel Donna. Da Da da Da da until I heard the I scream and then I heard the second scream and then I could open my eyes. I can see visual It's the it's the auditory and the jump. The the the unexpected is terrifying for me Let's talk about your beginnings is an after I did you resist it at any point that you could have gotten gotten into it. I mean I know you went to a year. College started acting never going back. That's the story. No no no it was the last thing in the world you have to remember. I was not pretty eighty. I was cute. The word cute was a sort of attributed to me a lot. I had a lot of personality. Your spunky I was spun. Guy was cute and precocious totally. Yeah mostly because I wasn't particularly intelligent so I lack of any school like success assess I made up for in personnel as like personality plus anyway I went to college where my mother was the most famous person you've ever graduated. It was the only Lee school that took me with my e plus eight forty combined. Sat Average was. Why were you so bad at school? I mean I just couldn't the delivery. The system didn't work for me today. I'd be diagnosed with some learning disability or some learning difference. So what happened is I went to college. Yeah a friend of mine. Nine from Beverly Hills had a tennis court behind her house and a man who had been the tennis teacher who would teach people at her house and he said you know they're looking for Nancy drew managing actresses now and they're looking for. Nancy drew universal. You should go up for it and I said Oh okay. I was home from college and I went up and auditioned and didn't get the job but the Somewhere somebody said Oh. She was whatever I don't even know what they said. They said something because all of a sudden he said you know you should stick around. You could get work and all of a sudden. I called my college and I said can I take the month of January Kan.. which is a month that everybody else took one class I said can I do a drama class and get credit for drama? If I go to acting class trying to be an can I break into show business in a paper from get school credit. Get School credit for it and they said yes and addition for a program which is no longer in existence which was a contract system. They used to put people under contract. What is your say when I read that I thought God she must have been the last I was contract attractive? Truly I was with virtually one of the last people I actually told the woman who ran it a woman they moaning James. After I finished my audition I said look. I know that you take some time to decide but I'm going back to college in two days so I need to know by Tuesday. 'cause I'm going back to college. And so they called and said Yes yes and so I quit. I quit college. became an actor by accident. And what was your family's reaction to that. My mother I think was thrilled. You know Tony I have no no I don't remember And you know I became an actor and I i. I've been an actor since that day. Never in a million years thought. It'd the an actor really. That's so I mean never in a million years and I mean in terms of you say you never thought you'd be an actor ever. You took these acting classes. I was reacting classes because I had to take them. I mean how did what I want to know is how did you learn. Could you have a sense of what the craft is. That goes all the way back to the beginning or is it something something. That's kind of ad hoc that has developed over the years totally Just sort of what I've picked up what works what doesn't work. I have learned that it whatever it is. There is no formula for anyone. There is no one way to do it. there are a million ways to approach something and every actor. We'll come in with a different way. There have been times where I have felt less than because other people seemed. More Articulate well it I I will tell you I remember. I did a wonderful movie with John. Boorman all the tailor of Panama and it stars. Geoffrey Rush It's John Onlooker novel. Pierce Brosnan myself and Geoffrey rush and Jeffrey and John are both intellectuals and they're both deeply Deeply into character and they do method work. Well they just dig deep and excavate everything and I put on the watch of the character and I'm ready because I cut my teeth and horror movies so you don't have any time you just show up as the person and you do the work and you get a take or two and then they have to move on. Because there's no time and I remember a day where Pierce Brosnan and I were sitting in this room with John and Jeffrey and John and Jeffrey were like deep diving into things and I remember. We're at one point. Pearce look to me. I looked at him. 'cause pierce cut his teeth on Remington Steele right which is an hour. It's a mystery murder mystery right right. He was a detective. You know again television fast fast. Show up no it fast and I remember who he walked out of this room. We were in an elevator later and I looked at him and I said Pierce. I feel like such a bad actor because I'm not. I'm not deep diving like that. And he goes. Yeah me too two and the two of us just stood there looking at each other because in a weird way I think at that moment felt out of our depth but the truth is there is no depth actors actors listening to this wherever you are yes. She's about to drop some truth. The truth is there is no depth that you have to go to. It doesn't matter it's about creating something real and whatever it takes to do that do it. But I don't I have found that when I try to be a really good actor. I'm not a good actor because I'm all of a sudden very very self conscious. I'm thinking about things in a way. That's just not the way I do it and I have just found since I started. arted that the best thing I can do is I read at once. I kind of know what it is and I show up. I know what I'm supposed to say say. And it has worked out that way in every area of my life Going back to starting out in horror I mean I know a little little bit of the whole origin story of how Halloween came about but again as a person who doesn't like scary movies. It's funny that that should be. It's the weird irony. I know. Yeah I am I just I will tell you this I've been on. TV series called Operation Petticoat. which I like an old west thing? Well no it was a remake of the Tony Curtis Carey Grant Comedy set on pink submarine in World War Two now and I would have guessed that was a movie and where.
Don Johnson on His New Film 'Knives Out'
"This is popcorn where we tell you what's happening at the movies and there's a movie now that is a WHO Dunnit of sorts but to me. It's the most fun that I've had at the movies movies this year. It's called knives out. And one of the stars is my guest today. Don- Johnson here especially little torture chamber. We Ah the black inside the black kind event also. Well people confess when they sit in this chair. I'll tell you anything anything. Anything he wanted to unburden yourself on. This is a you know I'm I'm ready. I'm ready to just leave. Just push the button. Okay Yeah who did it. No I is a movie that actually begins with the murder but it's not like we know anything well. The interesting thing is is that in the first ten ten minutes you see the actual death actual murder you see and so without knowing without knowing what you're meant to see or what what what you know there. And then you spend the next COUPLA hours having a blast watching these incredibly beautifully flog people entitled I really it just Hilarious it's Christopher amherst character that murdered right and he's having his eighty fifth birthday and yes this all star cast including you. I looked at that movie into any one of these bastards could adopt. Yeah that cast. Is You know the the interesting thing that happened. Is that when we got together to make this movie. It all came together pretty fast and we we arrived in. We shot out of south side of Boston towards Wellesley in this in that house in a big mansion. Yeah and and We all had these new enormous trailers not more than two hundred yards away from the house. we never used them. All we did was as we go downstairs in the basement of this house and we'd picked a room a lot like this a lot more friendly but I had a little more humor to it not much but we would sit around and tell stories about the movies. We'd done it asked you know I'd asked Daniel Daniel Daniel Craig about you know what. Tell me about that stunt and tell me what you know about about this and that and he had asked me about things that that We had done Christopher plummer summer and and I've known Christopher for a long time we we held down a couple of barstools and in San Francisco. I'm not shocked. And that and Jamie Lee Curtis who plays. You're pissed. Oh she he's still see. Well I worked out pretty well because she plays my wife and the thing and I showed up for work she started bossing me around and I said okay. Why not and captain? America's your son Chris Evans. Yeah this normal. Sure everybody's just hanging out there that hey birthplaces and there's a lot of movies that I see sometimes where I think the actors actors are having a great time. But I'm not in this case it's red from what you guys were doing to the audience when we see I know it's infectious. It really is. Yeah and that's harder actually think you know the the the the extraordinary extraordinary thing about this We didn't have a table read. We didn't rehearse we just showed up on the first day and you no. It's not an uncomplicated. No people have to and so we showed up on the first day. And we we start to go and I and and I hit a I hit the tone that I think is right. and Lo and behold Jamie Lee tosses the ball back to me and Scott the same tone and then we started to roll and everybody else sort of you know did their thing and we kind of brought that sense of joy in and in the moment to the to the to the to the To two knives out and I think that that's what you feel. I think that that joy in that fun kind of ride is what you feel like. You're lifted up. But it has a very contemporary temporary kind of spin on it. Yeah you should explain Richard who is a bit of a rat bastard. Yeah well they're they're all horrible people there are they are but he. He is kind of the personification of the Great. I loved him because he doesn't do. Anything doesn't have a job. AUB doesn't do anything he just you know. He's the personification of entitled because he lives off of His wife in the family and all that stuff I sort of played him like a like a one of those country club sizes. Just kind of walking around with half a buzz on over time. It is whatever you want but yeah people you need to see this. And when they do they can thank us for it. I can thank you. You're welcome. You're welcome bureaus. It's a good time and then I have to bring this up too because it's so great is watchman on HBO. You know I've seen you do a lot of great things things right from the beginning. You know even Miami Vice where when people think of it now and they think of how you're dressed and the style that you had and the suits the cheese and the t shirts and the whole deal no socks yeah started a complete fashion trend but that was a really good show. Yeah I was a little ignoring by in the beginning when there's Oh it's just fluff at style over substance and I was going well not so fast you know we we managed to get had some you know a golden globe. And you're gone. What does that mean? It's true But yeah no I've I've been fortunate in that I've had some Some meaty parts get to play over the years and I just think I mean you'll show Abo thing is is is ah trip. Sorry to interrupt with that Help the the the the writer creator of Damon Lindelof was I think I gave him his first job on Nash Bridges. You don't quite remember no way I mean I know that I I saw now I see. Yeah Yeah and then he went on of course to To do lost and forgiving him. No no no. He's true they should. I should be getting away. From all guys Sean Ryan and Carlton Carlton Cues and all the I mean. So many people came out of that That little incubator. I had gone up there. Those shows Nash Bridges and Miami. I swear long running shows which you're playing cops and I remember hearing you do an interview once and said I'm done with that you know and here you are as sheriff drugged God. You Judge Judge for judge hanging around the hanging around. But there's something in that role on. I know I get killed if I say anything too much about it but you know we probably both would. Well you'd be specially killed but I don't know how you get killed yeah to do this. But it's such a wonderfully complex charming character Thank you might have many many other level the NFL. What's happening? Yeah well when I see an emmy nomination for that too in your future Oh bless your heart. Don't vote for the Emmy Okay. So it's useless. I think you know every listen every reality start somewhere with a rumor. Okay talk to John. You heard it here therefore I give you know I'm not getting it's make it happen. Yeah that is a lot of fun to do too because it was. I didn't have a character who can be sitting at a family dinner and get up and do Rogers and Hammerstein and make everybody feel. I WANNA be around this guy. It was just very ballsy and Fabulous to what you know. That's the way I felt about it because Damon column. He wrote me this beautiful letter and of course if you want an actor's attention you just write him a letter and tell him how great he is and you've got his undivided attention. I guaranteeing I don't care who it is. It's like Kryptonite right. You know. Start Bragging on an actor and telling them how great they are. They'll do anything and I fell victim to that. He came in. Yeah Yeah you're the God. And so he Lewis. Is this Lewis right walk on. I love it but he asked me to come in and he told me he kinda told me that story. The sort of long grades plans for for watching it. I don't think he wanted to scare me off so he didn't. He didn't tell me the whole thing but he told me enough and I and I kind of felt like well. I'm in on the joke and I like that. You know and and I also think that it's an interesting thing to have My fans wouldn't expect it no one expects and it's kind of A. It's kind of like one of those things where I can get away with that these days where maybe couldn't before

Pat Topics are in the house with what B o behind joy Behar Sunny Halston and Nagin McCain. Now let's get things started back back. We are here. Finally after two days of being preempted we are here. Yeah so trump appointed ambassador Gordon. Sandline didn't wasted time saying like a Canary Testimony yesterday and a Senate Republicans into attack mode watch. I followed the directions of the president. We worked with Mr Giuliani because the president directed us to do so. Everyone was in the loop. It was no secret. I I know that members of this committee frequently frame these complicated issues. In the form of a simple question was there a quid pro quo so as I testified previously with regard to the requested White House call and the White House meeting the answer is yes the answer Sir is yes so how damaging is this. Lady's what are you said. I couldn't take my eyes off the opening statement. Yesterday I was. I was an olive what we were hearing. It was a total bombshell. In my opinion it reminded me of what corrupt governments do and get away with. That's not that's not who we are. That's not what we do. I will say not yet what we did what I found the most alarming yesterday For Trump and people that support him in Sunland was in the inner circle. Right okay now down to like diplomats and he gave a million dollars to trump's campaign. Let's not he did but he all right with someone has spoken to the president. Says he doesn't know him at this point but they did speak a lot and he worked with Giuliani and he also implicated everyone that was involved. He not only only under the bus. He got behind the wheel of the bus and literally drove over them. About like Mick Mulvaney Rick Perry I wanNA hear even the the president the vice president. Mike Pence this was the strangest part. Everybody knew he said going. I couldn't figure this out. Both Volcker and Sunlen said that they did not get the connection between BEREA SMA and the Biden's that is where you lost me because if you google it or you follow Giuliani on the cable news channels over the past year you realize that Barista the only reason that present was interested in Barista because the Biden are if they're lying about that then can they believe the other stuff so I found myself confused yesterday. I was alarmed by most of it but I thought for the most part. It was a bombshell bad news for for trump is what do you do. Yeah I felt the same way I mean he you know through everyone under the bus drove the bus. Put it in reverse went back. I couldn't believe it. Especially when he said it was no secret. Everyone one was in the loop and I just started thinking back to when President Pelosi was trending on twitter. When he named pens? I was like well. Maybe it's not such a fever dream after all I was like all hail the chief. Because if you're taking out the president and you're taking out the vice president who's next in line. I mean I thought it was that actually somebody new audiences like Um what about the fact that there were serious objection to all of this is that he didn't directly. Say Hey make sure you. Don't you know that this is not a quick sale. What Republicans are zeroing in on is that someone was saying? This was based on his own presumption. That's from the phone call that it wasn't fact act and again depending on which media you consume which twitter account you follow you think that trump should be hauled out in handcuffs or you think that he has one hundred percent completely innocent and and this is a witch hunt. What's interesting to me? Is the polling data about impeachment. Democrats nearly unanimously think that he should be impeached for two five Republicans. Believe he hasn't sixty five percent of Americans Arken stay nothing they learned during inquiry will change their minds for NPR. PBS poll. When I watched it yesterday I didn't have the same reaction quite frankly? I don't believe anything and do you know I don't don't believe anything because I came on the show for a long time. Being told that muller was the smoking gun everybody had it locked and loaded and it was done I think did what. President trump do was completely unethical. So I think anyone with even the faintest of a conscience can understand that yes. It was an ethical. Was it illegal. That is the question we're trying to answer. And that by the way is the question. That that Amy Klobuchar brought up in the debate last night that I think is more than what is it a pain liberal impeach impeachment process right politics gouged. He's he's going to be. Is it an impeachable offense. Not as an illegal offense and a question. I want to hear you. Impeach install remaining. It will be impeached. The question is will the Senate find the Hamas to remove from. Ed Truly. Don't feel kind. I think we should be very intellectually honest because I for one am sick of these false flags that the media continues to fly that we are going to have trump again. And I and I go to Muller again these going to be hauled out immediately. Let's take it day by day person by person nobody shops. He's going to be impeached. But when we go to the Senate bad let me finish talking. Mitch McConnell is a brilliant politician. And what he's going to do is he's going to strengthen this out and take this as long as possible because it's going to make all the Democratic candidates who are in the Senate running for President Right now have to force all their time and impeachment at right now. Impeachment is not popular in the United States. Republicans are not going to remove. Move Him from off now. They're now they're not going to remove him row office. Will he be impeached. One hundred percent. Should he be removed from all one hundred per cent. The let me say one other thing this. This is the thing when when when you look at this type of conduct and you look at the fact that I think we can all agree that the Republicans are not going to remove him from office. Why not really lying? Not WanNA title rarely running out of legal NARC LOBS broken today. White House Press Secretary Stephanie. Grisham said in a statement that Ambassador Sunland testimony made clear that in one of the few brief phone calls he had with President Trump. The president clearly stated that he wanted nothing from Ukraine and repeated no quid pro quo over and over again. In fact no quid. Pro Quo ever occurred the US aid to Ukraine flowed. No investigation was launched and president trump has met and spoken with Presidents Alinsky Democrats kratz keep chasing ghosts them to say I mean. We should also mention that the president said that on September ninth. After the whistle blower complaint was lodged in after the hill. Started in you you all you have to understand why. Republicans are skeptical when on day one of him being elected people said start impeachment. So again for me I. Nobody hates president trump. More than I am I I have been given every or you..

"I work for for any remaining sweaty. Blushing christians pins listening. There is like that that erotic nature of all things and he asked the divine yeah is present in christianity war richard rohr talks about his celibacy was not <hes>. It's not the monks don't want to don't want to have sex. They're having sex with everything all the time. That's it's all erotic and sometimes for some people following their desires to their deepest point. They realized that they will be biologically age sexual and let the the making love up to everything be experienced and everything else but that's following its desire all the way to it's source and it doesn't stop scratching the skin right. Yes and that's something the thing that it was funny as i think someone recently where they were kind of like what's the you know biggest misconception about something like sex magic and i think it would have to be that it's that it's all even at all about what we typically think of when we say sex in general and that it may be exclusively results results and people having like hotter wilder weirder partnered sexual experiences. I also think that's kind of a misconception anytime you happen to attach the word witch magic adjective anything like it just gets put in this really specific container but i'm not saying that like the potter wilder partnered sex isn't possible because that might might be an outgrowth of the erotic energy and coming back on your body but it's also not the point and so i was thinking about it this way about this idea recently a handful of my closest female friends former husbands where the ones that actually like introduced us originally. I guess not like recently is not what what else do they. That's how we met was the fact that their husbands had come across my business card or heard from someone. You know what i do and they're like oh..

"Me. That's like well. Of course it did how we'll else. Would it be what i mean. That's the whole universe is this scott roddick like desire <hes> gang. I mean just down to subatomic worlds like being drawn together yes you let's meld into one one one cell becoming to becoming four becoming the whole thing. Is this like fuck yeah beautiful beautiful divine armful career and that's one of the things about sex magic to because it's this whole idea that you are. This is something that a fellow practitioner amber -letes says it's using that energy to manifest what you want to reality but she says like you know first year beginning with your cultivated sexual energy like in sexual experience but you are eventually moving moving into a space within yourself that it is just your everyday erotic energy that you are constantly like and so it's like you're constantly having sex all the time and it's and that's a cool thing about six hundred. I feel like it centers. The reality that sex means more than just the activity of what we think think of as sex it's a practice that increases and focuses your awareness of your erotic energy and power because erotic energy is life force energy. It's it's creative energy so it's increasing your awareness of where that exists in you on where that exists outside of you and we're that exists in everyone that you know and how we can agree with that partner with it or whatever you know to to bring about what we most want to see happen in the world so again for me. I'm like that when i think of that i think of healing when i think of justice and i think if we were all in touch with that part of ourselves in working with our desire is the desire what brings us most back to ourselves into each other. I i mean i don't want to go so far as to say like that would solve all of our problems but it would definitely make a dent would really really help. I wonder how much of it's like aligning in your your flow your desire your your intention like with with your body. The natural like putting all the currents princeton one direction is makes the river more powerful..

"When i woke up i had this completed poem and it's a poem that i mean i didn't unfortunately my sex magic. Session didn't give me the name name of the poem so i just titled it because it's only may and i'm already exhausted of this term and it's about the the terminology of summer summer body and the whole poem is like she's better than my summer body. She and i refer it can you can you read. It and i'll put music to god. Ah yes go watch the magic of editing here it is what's it called again because it's only may and i'm already exhausted of this term and she's better than my summer body. My sometimes body my body for a season only if i earned her. She's my sorrow body my sleepless night body. My let me shoulder this weight with you body. She's thinking body my swimming body my gorgeous courageous. We just crash and burn body. She is my showing up anyway. Body off embody winter bodies spring body blooming she moves and suedes and roles at the punches hundreds like the forged in the fires of the earth fighter that she is. She is my single body. My sexual body my sacred when shared body my screaming screaming body my singing body my silent body my stronger body my sicker body my shrinking body my swelling body. My sometimes shattered body. She picks up up. She gets up. She summons she stretches. She sees this summertime. Body is my body for all seasons all sizes all circumstance. She is bolder and brighter and better than three months and heat she my sunshine body stardust body she energy of everything and everyone who ever has been before she will wear whatever the fuck she wants to to the goddamn beach and there's still a worship leader. No you're just i mean we're not worshiping idle anymore. I one hundred percents real. Oh i truly feel like you know this. This work. I do now in like in my coaching. Work is the holiest work i've ever done in my life and yet again if you were would ask certain people that would not appear that way so yeah. There's there's there's even like a kind of a magical mystical quality to when she became a she to me but i know that there are many steps in the process and what i know now i can tell you is knowing her as a she. That's what she's always wanted me to call her. She's never abandon it. She's never been a machine or vessel. She's always been a person and a person that has has lived her entire life with me doing everything she can to save me and love me and make me well and when i start from that place from that perspective in relationship with her everything else life starts to make morrison in case we might as well get get into. Let's get more into the sex magic thing so you said you briefly describe it. But where did this come to you and can you help us understand. It better yeah well. I think i was practicing it for a long time. Without knowing it i think my relationship towards my body and the experience of sex whether it was so low like self pleasure sexual experiences or partnered experiences i think there is always this at least opportunity that i was somewhere ornately aware of that there is an energy to this and i think i said this all before on your kitchen table once where i said that what i believe is like sex is the most potent form must spiritual medicine that exists and i know that with my brain now but i think again my body knew that for a long time which is why those early messages like period culture..

"Me. I'm like ooh that speaks so clearly to the fact that you felt so so unsafe and also that at least planted something really early where i got curious about what are witches and you honestly because the internet so you don't have to dig too far to find out that those images are propped up on hundreds and hundreds of years of patriarchy murdering women the earliest which is where midwives ebbs and herbalists and or they were women who you know right around the time where it was like okay well women are property now and and that's what marriages women who are kind of bucking the system and either inheriting their ancestral lands you know apart from marrying into an inheritance that goes on the male line like any time that there is a woman an and there's a really great book about this <hes> called. I think it's called witches lesson. Feminists were kind of unpack a bit of the real history of witches and how that term was co opted to express you know taken from visitors are women who were like seen as dangerous to the the powers that be at the time and yet because there was so much panic second fear rooted in the religious belief that was like oh yeah. They have sex with the devil. That's what they do. That's why we're gonna kill him but in reality it was women who were who are trying to offer their assistance against their medical assistance to the poor when the establishment was like no absolutely not only people who have money get get to receive that assistance so i think it's a little bit of both where it was like something thing about seeing these cartoon images of these women who are kind of in charge of themselves with super appealing and then as i got older i started really looking into that more and when you really start to look into the actual history of which is and what they were doing and who they really were and why they were actually killed or you know ostracized you know anything from the like you know there's the extreme version of when they're killed but they weren't all killed but you start to kind of see a little bit more what they were doing more rooted injustice than evil and and so many questions what was you named some of this already but i love to hear you more specifically name some of the ways in which the christianity that you inherited wasn't working for you. What do you mean by being disembodied and what else specifically about what your tradition of the christianity wasn't working for you causing harm yeah. I think that a lot of recognizing how it was harming me and what it was actually doing has come out you know come to me on the other side of leaving and contextualising what my body was doing when i i was in it so finally realizing that okay there were certain doctrines that were taking me away for myself in ways i didn't know at the time which i'll get into but i couldn't see that clearly and so my body was trying to get my attention to get me to come back home to her and other ways through occasionally and actually pretty often through various various different emotional or physical imbalances anything from panic attacks to like years-long digestive issues..
Movie remakes: the good, the bad and the ugly
"We look at remakes the good the bad, the ugly possibly some other surprises. Here is co host and actor Doug Hutchison, Doug, how's it going today? How are you, my friend? All right there. I'm good. I'm ready. I'm poised, I'm doing really, well, thanks for asking. And I'm excited about this topic movie remakes, I believe it was inspired, if I'm correct me if I'm wrong. But and our last show, we were talking our theme was movies about loss and grief surrender and one of my on the list was movie called pet cemetery based on the Stephen King novel, and I really enjoyed the rigid version, and then found out, they were making twenty nineteen version, which just came out, which I. Haven't seen, but I started lamenting about remakes and questioning the validity of remaking movies that are already made, you know, impeccably, so why remake them. So I think that spurred this topic on, but I just wanted to preface it this by saying that we call this remakes the good the bad and the ugly. But in my research, I actually surprised myself because I found that I actually started liking a lot of the remakes that was digging up the ones that I had seen. And so my list actually has more smiley Osman Ali faces on it. So I guess my list my list is not the good the bad nucleus that the good. I one ugly, just a mention at the very end just for the heck. But anyway, I was wrong. I just gotta say that. I'm gonna confess it. I was wrong. I think there is validity in making certain remakes and I have enjoyed as you'll see a handful of them. Many of us in smiley face by them. And I'm gonna tell you mine are just the opposite might have a frown. After after off your conversation. Holly told you I was looking at the positive and the bright side of everything. I'm gonna try and five five down. So. Great minor five thumbs up years or five down mice, the glasses have full years. At the half full once you're five. Okay, so in, in no sense of order whatsoever, by the way of priority. One of the remakes, actually really enjoyed is Tim Burton's Alice wonderland twenty ten. The original versions, of course, there, were it was nineteen fifty one there was a version of wonderland. And then there was a TV movie version in nineteen eighty five Tim Burton cast as the often does that amazing cast Johnny Depp. He's always cast in depth. So debt plays the mad Hatter Tim Burton's wife, who I've heard they possibly getting divorced. I think I read this the other day which is unfortunate, but it's life and relationship I suppose. Helena, Bonham Carter? It plays the Queen of hearts, young actress by the name of mea was the cow seat in Australian actress plays Alice Crispin Glover plays the knave of hearts. And I can say is in a nutshell Tim Burton. I mean. Filmmaking God or what move? He's actually come down from the mount filmmaking Olympics to give us his gifts or he's made a pact with the devil, because everything this man touches to me turns into gold and his vision, his, his special effects, his whole take on his movies are just unbelievably original income Pele. I loved him Burton as you do. And so Alison wonderland twenty ten Tim Burton's version. I loved it Coleman who call. I'm going to do research on the internet. I'm see anywhere. You came from a good place for that. It's great for me. Number five linking. Said, good things, these are not in order, because this might have been number one for me, the Halloween remakes, specifically by rob zombie. Who's the singer slash director? People that absolutely are in love with his movies. I find him to be one of the I hate shitting by hate it. It's not my style. Rob zombies, Halloween movies are among some of the worst I've ever seen, but not just Halloween. He directed. Oh shit. What are those movies he directed? All other coal classics God. How come I mean? Blinded, I loved that he made it wasn't a remake, but devils reach, I'm not gonna want a lot of people like that movie I do not. I, I don't like rob zombie style. He, he was on Howard Stern bragging on how quickly he shoots movies and I'm gonna know shit. It shows like it's like. Yeah, this looks like something you shot overnight, like it's I should be more friendly towards Massachusetts. Born director. I dunno house thousand corpses. Grind house at devil's rejects. I, I am not a fan of especially the Halloween. It's just he's not as cute as thinks he's on his creative as he thinks he is the movies, look like even shop quickly. There's there. I just find him highly unappealing I to tell you, I've had two interviews, one with another podcast host. Absolutely loved them. Shame on you for saying that. And then I had on the director of directed. I'm not gonna mention what he directed, but he dragged my favorite horror movies, and I said, I'm going to tell you I love this. I compare this something like rob zombie Halloween. I said, I'm not really a fan. He goes robs a friend. I'm like, oh, sorry. Okay. I should have said that. But I'm just I'm just not fan of rob zombie Halloween. And that doesn't even case into account. How awesome the original Halloween movies are even the last one they came out this past year with with. What's your name plays the lead in the Halloween movie stuck? My brain is out to lunch today. Gene, Jamie Curtis. Jamie Lee Curtis. Again, of course. Rijo. Yeah. And that was directed by the latest one when she was in. It wasn't directed by her. It was okay. But completely unnecessary leave the ones that came out the originals alone, their final even the one two three I love them. But yeah, that's how I lick never been touched again. And you and I have talked about the Halloween mask ironically whose face that is. And I hope I hope you believe me now it's face. I did not do any research because I think maybe just slipped yourself a little bit of acid or I don't know some kind of drug or something because that's crazy. I do not I because if I think about that, and I watched Halloween again, what my going to be

"Oh, my God is Swedish thing. To move you. Yeah. It's also about Howick everyone's got like lots of stories to tell you know, like deniro's a fountain Dory person. It's also like the beginning of the movie kind of touches on this is dark. This is a way to process it kind of touches on that like that montage from up where gets like it's kind of bleak at first, and then the movie starts on fold. And you're like, oh, this is like a fun up movie. But like when it starts with deniro name. I lost my wife. I go to Starbucks every day. I'm just kind of like watching the time pass like my my grandfather is in that spot right now. So when I watched like, my grandmother died two years ago, and like us sort of how his he structures is day is just shit to do. Yeah. Yeah. So and I just visited him. So when I was watching this movie, I was like oh God. It's a lot to cross there's something it's just. Little depressing. The like video camera with no one behind it. Like he said it up by himself to do. The video message like gnome. Let me help you. You know? That was something that kind of felt like in general, I don't know if you guys agree with this. But I thought that like my grandfather he's ninety six years old and. He texts he totally understands how to use his computer. He's always like has a new phone. He doesn't have a flip phone from casino. Right. Yeah. I think all that stuff or they're like what's USB core. Corny rely just wish that wasn't I want. As a comedian writer actor star of crashing these single above the title star of crashing. Is there actually is their crushing season or year as we just finished phone. That's awesome. Yeah. It comes out. January. So this would be closer to coming out by the time. This comes post room. Oh nice. I remember because we were talking before recording. We both for this movie. Yes. Everyone who even had any sort of semblance of a relationship to the comedy world seemingly audition for this move like anyone under forty who had ever taken a UC class. Was it New York because I feel like it's a New York moves at drawing for them New York scene. Okay. Yeah. I also it's interesting because it is a comedy. But it's not such a comedy. That's like only comedians could play these parts. No. And a lot of those purposely ended up casting like, oh, this is like a drama school kid. You know? Early Martine stars are like things like that. They're only a couple comedians in the movie and some of them in the parts. You didn't think you would cast is in one scene in never reappears that guy three times along with five other that character because he's such an idiot. 'cause he asks Robert deniro where he was gonna seem self in ten years. Yes. You think that's why we never see I think so. But it's we high billing pretty high billing. No, I like remember the casting process for this one on for months. They kept on pushing back the start of filming which is one of the things that cost movie to go over budget and over schedule because it was like she kept on being like I can't start filming. I haven't found my boys yet and push back another like six weeks, and they're like twelve. Heavy movie has done getting called and they'd be like this time. It's these two characters this time this now you're meeting with this person..

"The reason I'm in trading places, one reason only horror movies, the reason is because John Landis men who directed trading places is a horror film fan, and he loves fifties horror movies, and he was doing a documentary called coming soon, those fifties horror movie trailers, and he needed somebody to narrate it. And who would that be? Let's all think he called me never knew me never met a and he'd only seen my work in hormone vs. But all the sudden, I this girl showed up, and I'm you know. Hi, I'm Jamie Lee Curtis. I'm standing here on the back. Lot of universal where so many and its narration of of horror movie trailers, the John Landis shot in this documentary short that he put together that is available somewhere in the world. And that's where he met me. You see John Landis would've never laid eyes on me. And would have never gotten a sense of who I was. And maybe the possibility that I could do something beyond horror movie, and he single handedly put me in trading places, you know, and I know this was the female lead in a paramount picture starring Eddie Murphy, and Dan ackroyd, besides Ralph Bellamy, Donna Meanchey, Elliott you. No. And I know exactly what resistance he met when he said, oh, and I'm gonna cast Jamie Lee Curtis as feeli-, you know, are you kidding? I know I've read what he's written. There was huge pushback. And he was like, no that's one hiring because he had figured it out after working with me. But nobody would have made nobody would have made that that hinge would not have just been like, I should have had a V eight. We should catch Jamie Lee Curtis. You know, it was because of horror movies. Can you ogre good? But and then from that was that, and then John Cleese wrote fish called Wanda because of trading places and Jim Cameron wrote True Lies because of a fish called Wanda. So again you link it all back is all back to horror movies, and here, I am now sitting with you with your bad jacket. You mean bad like in the Michael Jackson bed like cool bed? Now. It's sad. It's sad. Jackson. The new bed Felix the new bad today. It's simply it's young pay. It's it's almost desperate. But it's not because you're because you're sweeten handsome, and you can pull it off signed off and just where my. What is your shirt say doctor doctor Satan lives, it's a horror movie that I did I didn't mean to where I was never. This was never meant to see the light of day. I was gonna wear this and cover up the fact that I wore shirt from a movie that I was in the one movie I ever did. Okay. Goes matter. It's a nice shirt. You're you're sort of have a little repressed adolescence. It's fine a little generous. Okay. But you know, what I'm saying? It's it's fine. And in my repressed adolescence, I do trading places is a movie that I watch every year around the holidays I've seen that movie. Maybe one hundred fifty times, I know that movie back to front it is one of the best comedies in the history of comedy. Please tell me that it was fun to make it was fun to make. It was I I remember a little bit of it. I remember a little bit of it. I wasn't gauged at the time to Michael Riva who. Also recently passed away, and he was a great production designer in a wonderful, man. He was also the grandson of Marlene Dietrich. Oh, and I lived in her apartment on Park Avenue when I shot trading places because the, you know, the movie company gave me a per diem and Maria Riva Michael's mother her daughter. You know, Marlena daughter was the woman responsible in adult woman responsible for my Marlene as apartment Marlena was in Paris. And it was it was sort of a Sunset Boulevard apartment. I mean, it was it was falling apart, but it was still her apartment with a round bed and mirrored smoke. Mirrored closets the entire room, and I was going to rent it because I was given a monthly per diem. I gave that to the Rivas and I lived at on Park Avenue in this building..

Palmer used to sort of elbow. OJ Ango didn't use be able to do that and OJ would go and that was the joke. He was sort of the excuse me the boob. If you will of rube of the of the commercial, and I was the know it all and that was how they were constructed. I knew everything they knew nothing, and I did those I've done a lot of commercials. People have hired me to sell their products is you know, I sold yogurt that makes you shit six years. You're great. But by the way. For people who need it. The product was amazing. And ultimately, it was helpful for people and believe me don't don't think there wasn't a conversation or two about like, really. And you know for me it was a gig. It allowed me to stay home with my son. You know, it gave me an income. And it was a product that people needed and liked and people would come up to me all over the world and say, I just have to tell you. They would tell their bowels. I will smile and genuinely be like. Okay, groovy if that's that's your podcast right there. You travel the world and people tell you. They're shit stories that is a podcast. But weirdly enough, you see I was the one because I'm a marketing person as I was on this movie. I'm a marketing girl like if I'm anything a marketing. Mm-hmm. I'm a marketing person. I love good marketing. And I started recording those people on my iphone or my whatever phone. It was at the time. In an airport, and I would do the hi this is Jamie Lee Curtis. I'm here at the Denver airport, and I'm talking to Gail. Hi gail. I'm a man named Gail. That's interesting. But tell me what you just shared with me when I walked up and you're like, oh my God. Chris hardwick? All right, Jamie Lee Curtis you, by the way, don't get say anything you do what do you wanna say? You did one of my favorite things ever. I mean like of favourite life moments Europe, part of one. Wow, I ran into you the day before I was getting married, and we were at this little trinket shop on third and you go what are you doing king married tomorrow? And I was buying all these like. We give each other the the wife, and I gave each other presence before we got married. It's sort of like a pre wedding present thing. So I bought all these things, and I was explaining all of them. And then I bought this, Dan align frozen in a cube because it's like a permanent wish. And I I give this and you across the store you go. You know, what fuck you, Chris Hardwick? Fuck you and your brand new marriage. Fuck you it was one of my favorite the clerks. Didn't know what to do. And I absolutely loved it. Wow. Do you remember that? I have a vague memory of it. But it didn't. I mean, they're always been weddings, and they're always been wedding sites, and magazines, and of course, wedding magazines, the only magazines that won't go out of business because that and, you know, well children's stores are going to business, but wedding magazines won't got a business. So I just you were just a little pressure. It was like a little too much for me. He was just you know. I mean, I wouldn't have been surprised if you'd said you had icebreakers make custom icebreaker mints with your guys initials on them or something that you presented her. Well, my wife didn't have little jars Honey made with our names on them. But people. Is this part of the podcast believe it is. We've already you don't even you don't even. Well, like, hi, it's Chris. I know I'll tell you. I don't do it. If you wanna know, I'll tell you why. It's not talking points. They don't by the way, give me no. I have had people send me talking points before. And I'm not a person like I don't push back, very hard. But when people send me talking points who side talking I get on the phone. I'm like, hi, it's Jamie Curtis. I'm sixty and you just sent me talking points. Like, you think I'm going to pay attention to your talking point fucking talking points. I've got him I know him, and I will distill this and communicate this in my way. Which is why I am the one on the microphone like I. And I'm not saying that out of some it's not that's not ego talking. That's literally the reality is like, why do you hire me? Why did they hire me to do commercials for all those years? I did I did Hertz commercials with OJ Simpson. Arnold Palmer when the young business executive woman was new to the marketplace..
